My Personal Reasoning For Choosing Nursing
Becoming a nurse offers a great opportunity to improve the way an individual s thoughts process,
by converting from a creative thinker to a critical thinker. This facilitates the general care levels
of people and gives a positive atmosphere in the environment. In this essay I will explain and
describe my personal reasoning s for choosing nursing as a career; the skills, qualities and
inspirations that I have obtained throughout my life which have influenced me. Also describing the
importance and benefits of reflective practice for nurses, discussing how I will use it in my career
as a nurse. Nursing, for me specifically is the perfect career which suits what I would enjoy and
last in as a lifetime occupation. Influences through family and friends have given me a great idea
of what nursing is like in hospitals and age care facilities, I have been educated to constantly
provide and offer others care and aid towards the people around me. Providing this type of
positive atmosphere delivers a constructive build on my self motivation and self confidence, this
is fulfilling and exciting to me. Another reason that has motivated myself to pursue in the career
of nursing is that it offers a perfect opportunity to make a huge difference in other people s lives.
Pleasing the people around me provides myself with inspiration, giving a positive impact in their
lives sustains my happiness. In the recent year and a half, bodybuilding has become a passionate

Eminent Domain Purposes
1.When does a taking occur for eminent domain purposes? Refer to the Lucas case. Eminent
domain refers to the inherent power of the state to take or seize the private property of its
individual citizens. Property taken through eminent domain is mainly set aside for the
development of public utilities or assigned to a third party who is then supposed to use it for the
general good of the public (Larson, 2004).
There are generally four types of takings employed by the state through eminent domain. These are:
a.Complete Taking This is where the state seizes an entire propertyin for public use. In the case of
Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council (1992), the plaintiff was entitled to compensation as a
result of the complete taking of his land. However the Supreme Court denied him any
compensation stating that the restriction imposed on the use of the land was in the interest of the
general public due to the intended use of the land. Therefore the Takings Clause does not apply in
this case in spite of the economic benefits lost incurred as a result of the complete taking of his
property.
b.Partial Taking The state in this case takes a portion of a particular property mainly for the
expansion of the existing utilities. The owner of the property is liable for compensation in regard
to the piece of land seized and any resulting decline in the value of the remaining property.
c.Temporary Taking The government may require a piece of land to be used as a site when

The Observation Of A Four Year Old Malen.b
From birth to the toddler stage a child changes significantly from facial features, to walking and
sleeping much less during the day. At the age of four his vocabulary increases significantly, the
child can even put together sentences. They are like little people twith some sense of
independence. This paper will focus on the observation of a four year old male N.B conducted on
March 6, 2015 from 5:00 pm 5:30 pm and March 7, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 4:30. The paper will
provide examples of Piaget s theory, Vygotsky s theory as well as apply these examples to the
cognitive and development of the child.
Piaget s pre operational stage focuses on the use of symbols, language use, memory and
imagination to evaluate the child. During this stage it is noted that thinking is done in a
nonlogcial and nonreversible manner. For instance, N.B. used Lego s and hot wheel tracks to
build a make believe wall. He even placed some pillows on the carpet to mimic spiderman falling.
The child then took the spider man and began to run around the living room make noises and
using his hand as if he was throwing a web on the wall and swing from one side to the other.
When asked what he was doing, N.B. stated he was spider man and had to save the town. He
then pointed to where he had built a wall surrounding various objects. N.B then ran and jumped
over the wall and had a make believe fight with one of the action figures and stated he was saving
the day. This demonstrates make believe play which is a

Social Change Essay
In my lifetime time, I have seen many social changes. The invention of the internet, the change in
views on race, religion and the institution of marriage and many other changes too numerous to
mention. There are three important processes that facilitate these changes, cultural processes
(invention, discovery, and diffusion), social conflict, ideas, and demographic patterns. Along with
social change, modernity has allowed our society to change. Modern societies are different from
traditional societies and by looking at the theories of Tönnies, Durkheim, Weber, and Marx. we
see some defining traits of modernity. Without social change our society would stagnate. Social
change allows our society to grow. There are three important sources... Show more content on

In industrial capitalist societies, he maintained, the struggle between capitalists and workers
pushes society toward a socialist system of production. Marx vision about social conflict
arising from inequality has proven to be correct and that it does create changes in every society.
Without ideas, and men with dreams, there would be no innovation and little social change. Max
Weber believed that most social change came from ideas. For example, it takes just one man
with a charismatic message to inspire and change the world. Weber (1958, orig. 1904 l905) also
high lighted the importance of ideas by revealing how the religious beliefs of early Protestants
set the stage for the spread of industrial capitalism. Ideas unite people in a common goal allowing
social change to take place, such as creating a new neighborhood watch program or protesting
wall street for more income equality. As populations grow and change, demographic patterns play
a part in social change. Some patterns include change in household size, women having fewer
children, the age of the population, and the migration from one place to another. In America,
households have been shrinking over the last century and family size is about half of what it
used to be. Also, women are deciding to have fewer children, and more people are living alone.
Our population is steadily growing older by the year 2035, seniors will account for 20 percent of

Theme Of Ikemefuma In Okonkwo
In Things Fall Apart , as much as Okonkwo handles his family with a heavy hand, Okonkwo s
relationship with his children create a subsidizing factor in the inner conflict between Okonkwo s
reputation and his fatherly instincts. Okonkwo treats his two children, Nwoye and Ezinma
differently from his adoptive son Ikemefuna, opening a window to show the large differences the
three. Their Father and son relationship are different between Okonkwoand his own father, also
between Okonkwo and his children Nwoye, Enzima, and his adoptive son Ikemefuma Okonkwo, is

This is the last straw for Okonkwo, to whom ancestors and tribal traditions are very important to
him. He disowns his son as a result. This describes a father and son tension because Okonkwo
does not respect Nwoye decisions and expects him to be just like him. Okonkwo has a more
positive relationship with his adopted son, Ikemefuna, who is basically a hostage from another
tribe. No matter how hateful he was towards gentleness, Ikemefuna managed to be into the
likings of Okonkwo because he was by nature a very lively boy and he gradually became popular

feasts, he allowed Ikemefuna to accompany him, like a son, carrying his stool and his goatskin
bag. And indeed, Ikemefuna called him father (p. 28). This shows a father and son relationship
because all though Ikemefuma is not his son he is treated like one, Okonkwo begins to feel an
emotional fatherly affection to his adoptive son Ikemefuna. All though he is very stubborn and
does not like showing his emotions deep down he cares for his children including Ikemefuma.
Eventually Okonkwo s tribe decides to kill Ikemefuna Okonkwo is only told not to participate,
because Ikemefuna calls him father, and he is like a father to the boy. As the boy s back is turned,

External Causes Of Aging
There are many reasons why your skin ages. The number one reason is aging. It is simply natural
for skin to become thinner, produce less collagen, elastin, and decrease cellular regeneration as you
get older. There is not much you can do about these internal causes of aging, but there are external
causes of aging skin that you can control to some extent.
The number one external reason skin ages is exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) rays of direct sunlight
over extended periods. Ultraviolet rays break down elastin and collagen and hamper the production
of new collagen, which the skin naturally produces to repair the damage. Prolonged exposure to the
sun also significantly increases the risk of skin cancer. This is true for tanning beds and indoor
tanning equipment. Fortunately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A sedentary lifestyle will slow circulation, and over time contribute to prematurely aging skin.
Exercise will also help you have more energy, which will make you look and feel younger.
Cold weather contributes to aging skin, especially cold wind. It dries out the skin causing
wrinkles. When you need to go outside in cold weather, you can protect your face with a good
moisturizer. Indoors the air may be heated and dry. This is also not good for the skin. A humidifier
can reduce the dryness in the air its aging effects on the skin.
Regular consumption of alcohol will gradually dilate the small blood vessels in the skin and
increase the blood flow near the surface of the skin, especially on the face. This condition can
become permanent and create a flushed appearance caused by broken blood vessels. Alcohol also
dehydrates the skin causing wrinkles.
A healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables as well as Omega 3 fatty acids will go a long way
to protect the skin against premature aging. Regularly eating too much sugar may cause glycation,
which will harm collagen and eventually cause a loss of elasticity and

Research Note On Distressed Debt
Research Note on Distressed Debt
Distressed securities are securities of companies or government that are experiencing distress
(either in financial or operational terms), default, or even bankruptcy. In case of debt, this is called
distressed debt. Investing in distressed debt can result in big returns, but the downside is that when
a company goes completely bankrupt, the value of your securities can go to zero.
Distressed debt sells at a very low percentage of par value, for example 30 cents on the dollar.
This percentage indicates that you can buy debt that is worth 1$ at maturity for 30 cents, which
seems very attractive but there is of course a reason that it is only worth 30 cents on the dollar. If
the distressed company emerges as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This limits the scope of potential investors to sophisticated individual investors, hedge funds,
private equity firms, vulture funds, and certain investment banks. The majority of distressed debt is
bought by these institutional investors because they have the resources, expertise, and sophisticated
risk management systems to assess the risk of these debt securities.
There are various ways investors can invest in distressed debt. The easiest way is to buy the
distressed debt in the bond market. Because most mutual funds are not allowed to invest in
distressed debt, there is ample supply of debt available shortly after a firm defaults. The second
way is to buy distressed debt directly from a mutual fund, since they have to sell according to their
mandate. These transactions are generally limited to institutional investors since large quantities of
debt, and therefore large quantities of cash, exchange hands. The third and final options is to buy
directly into the distressed firm. This involves working directly with the company to extend its
credit, either in the form of bonds or a revolving line of credit. Distressed companies usually need
significant amounts of cash for a turnaround, so it is common for a consortium of investment banks
and hedge funds to provide this cash to avoid overexposure to one

1984 Analysis Essay
History and 1984
War is peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is strength. In George Orwell s 1984, a light is
shining on the concept of a negative utopia, or dystopia caused by totalitarianism. Totalitarianism
is, a form of government in which political authority exercises absolute and centralized control
over all aspects of lifeВ… and any opposing political and/or cultural expressions are suppressed.
Having lived in a time of totalitarianism regime, Orwell had a firsthand account of its horrific
lengths and negative affects. Within 1984, Orwell derives aspects of the actual government of his
time to create, The Party , Big Brother , and the Thought Police . Using these fictional recreations
of reality, Orwell s 1984 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stalin use this concept in the 30 s for the same reason as the party; to make the people believe the
government was legitimate. Another aspect of Orwell s prophetic novel is the thought of
technology. During the time that Orwell wrote 1984, the radio was more comment than the
television and computers had not even been considered. Nonetheless, Orwell found a way to
include these things in his story. The tele screen could be related to the modern TV. Also, in the
book, the control of machinery and sources of information are controlled by computers. Orwell uses
technology in this book to
show that these things that were made to help man, can lead to the corruptness and downfall of
society, much like what is being seen today. Living in a world that continues to make
advancements technologically and politically, a book written more than 50 years ago still warns
the world of what could happen if government becomes too forceful. Because of George Orwell s
strong hatred for totalitarianism and its life dictating qualities, readers can get a taste of the
perfect dystopia . Though the people of today have been warned and are afraid of an all controlling
government, they continue to allow the concept of 1984 to become more and more real. If people
continue to just watch their governments make decisions and not ask questions, they will fall
victim to its power. If a man not of this time understands the terror of totalitarianism, everyone

Official Religious Views on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide
This essay is dedicated to the expression of the various official views of religious bodies within our
nation. Most major denominations are represented. These religions have long been the custodians
of the truth, serving to check the erratic and unpredictable tendencies of political, judicial and
social bodies which would have Americans killing off their elderly and handicapped.

and are, therefore, of inestimable worth. God has given people the highest dignity of all creation.

Jewish tradition holds the preservation of human life as one of its supreme moral values. It takes
precedence over virtually all other moral values to the degree that only the violation of three
cardinal sins (idolatry, adultery and murder) in limited circumstances can claim precedence over
the imperative to preserve life. Nevertheless, Judaism acutely linked to the reality of the human
condition realizes there are circumstances in which a person might long for death. The Talmud
reports of Rabbi Judah the Prince suffering great pain from an illness and his righteous
maidservant praying for his death as an end to his suffering. At least one commentator cites this
passage as an approbation of praying for the merciful death for one suffering in pain from illness.
Even with this appreciation of our human reality, Jewish Law does not reduce the mandate that we
preserve life, even under the most challenging conditions. While rabbinic authorities, ancient and
modern, debate whether under limited circumstances medical treatments may be withheld from a
suffering person (thus, no longer delaying an inevitable death), it is abundantly clear that one may
not proactively hasten death. At the same time, Jewish Law would endorse the aggressive
palliation of pain to a degree not currently practiced in the medical profession. Rabbinic authorities
place such treatment under the rubric of loving one s neighbor as one s self

Compare how Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen communicate the theme of loss in Out, Out and
Disabled .
In the two poems Out, Out and Disabled , a similar theme of loss is portrayed. Both of these poems
deal with the subject of physical loss, as both protagonists of these poems experience accidental
amputation. Both Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen manage to captivate their audience s attention, and
also a certain degree of sympathy for the protagonists misfortune. They do this successfully, with the
use of common literary techniques and linguistic skills, such as simile, metaphor, personification,
contrast, and many more literary devices, which range from obvious to very subtle.

Within such a short sentence, the boy s life was simply gone. This use of tripling is very effective,
as it may symbolise a heartbeat, slowly beating away, to its fate. The dashes further enhance this, as
they make the reader pause in the gaps between the words, making the heartbeats seem further and
further apart, and eventually dying away. Another quote which gives the reader a sense of loss is
the final stanza of the poem: And they, since they were not the ones dead, turned to their affairs ,
in line 33 34. This quote, to put into simpler words, means that the people who were working
with this young boy (who happen to be his family), had better things to do than to care for the
death of this young boy, and simply turned away, and got back to work. This action seems
alarmingly heartless, but nevertheless, Frost very successfully makes the jreaders feel a huge
sense of loss. This line once again shows how meaningless and vulnerable life is.
Written in the 1910s by Wilfred Owen, Disabled is a poem describing the experience of a young
soldier losing his limbs after fighting in World War I. He later gets discriminated against, and feels
isolated and regretful of his naГЇve reason to go to war. As opposed to Out, Out , Disabled does not
have an ambiguous title at all. The word disabled is

Utilitarianism, Virtue And Care Ethics
The three ethical theories I will discuss from Chapter 1 include: utilitarianism, virtue and care
ethics. First, the utilitarianism is moral standard and a theory of action by humans that are
morally right in action. Utilitarianism is an action that is morally right if its consequences are
more favorable. One way for businesses , as our reading suggests (Fieser Moseley, 2012), is make
a list of all the good and bad for any particular act. If the good outweighs the bad then that action
should occur. If the bad outweighs the good, then the action should stop. Utilitarianism theory
attempts to keep things on the positive, happier side of the spectrum. A company using this theory
is probably functioning well due to their morale analysis of actions related to safe products, good
quality products and customer care, a fair price, and fair and equal treatment to their employees. In
addition, because utilitarianism is a morale standard, a company would be environmentally
conscious and find ways to help the community and the world. A company would work at making
their products in an environmentally safe way, recycle surplus and make their products within the
United States to support the economy. A company would also look at balancing goods over harm
produced to the environment or people. Lastly, if a company were to be very successful, they
should donate some of their proceeds back into the community (environmentally or local
community support) or employees (bonuses,

behaving in such a way, I believe it is important for Black males to be exposed to positive role
models and influential people who will reassure Black males that the negative racial stereotypes
and labels they hear are not true. Black males must also be aware of the negative labels and

Rites Of Passage, Right Or Wrong
Rites of Passage, Right or Wrong ? Throughout history the term rights of passage has been used
to describe the transition of a person into a new stage of their lives. Rites of passage are relevant
in every day life all over the world. Most prominently though, Africa has a large population of
people whose groups still practice traditional rites of passageto mark special life achievements.
Basically, anything meaningful that happens within their tribe such as the birth of a child, the
entrance into adulthood, marriage, death, and so on, are all celebrated with the completion of
different customs. The celebration of rituals include dances, songs, and other formalities, however
groups across the continent also use varying methods of initiationthat most commonly include
circumcision in both sexes. For decades, people have questioned whether or not this traditional
initiation ritual is necessary and if it could possibly be harmful to young people within certain
tribes that practice them. Much controversy surrounds the issue of following tradition even while
performing procedures such as female mutilation. How are these rites of passage viewed as
beneficial and how are they seen as destructive? What are some alternative rites of passage for
these young initiates? A rite of passage, in African culture, is a ceremonial event in which a person
enters into a new stage of their life(Haley, McNaughton, Moss, Sallah and Wilson 3). Many of the

The Fast Runner, Atanarjuat
The Fast Runner film serves as a way to share the story of an Inuit legend, an evil spirit that has
been passed down through generations for centuries. The intent of this film was to show viewers
the balance of good and evil in the Inuit culture and the struggles of the people that follow. The Fast
Runner, Atanarjuat, is fighting with the evil spirit and this filmshows his encounters with the
legendary spirit. The creation of this film can also be used as a way to enlighten people about the
lives and culture of Native Americans in the Arctic. While watching this film I found the storyline
to be very basic. I enjoyed this film because while I was watching I forgot it was a scripted film
and not a documentary. At times during the film I thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the film, Atanarjuat and Amaqjuaq went hunting for their household alone. When there was

the film, Atanarjuat and Amaqjuaq discuss the shortages of caribou in the area while the supply of
seal and fish seemed steady. The textbook mentions food shortages and deaths by starvation but the
film doesn t portray the food that way. Although they talk about not having certain animals to hunt
in the area, they never discuss being excessively hungry or not having any food to eat. In the film,
the people would eat their meat raw and then burn the fat of the animals for heat. The way they ate
their food in the film seems accurate in relation with the textbook and other references. Although
the film seems accurate in regards to the economics of the Inuit people, the film doesn t necessarily
show how they hunted the animals that they ate. The people in the film would ride off in their

Transportation Is The Most Popular Form Of Transportation
In all countries transportation has always been a staple I every community, city, state and
country. Without some form of transportation it would take forever for one person to point B
from point A. To solve the issue people began using animals as transportation. The horse was the
most popular form of transportation because it was very fast and multiple people could ride on
a horse at a time. Then people began being transported by horse and buggy, which eventually led
to trains and cars. Today transportation is no longer an issue, but the price for transportation is a
huge issue. With gas prices constantly rising year after year and cost of living going up, people
in society are trying to live more efficiently. To live more efficiently Taxis and metro were created
but today they are no longer the most efficient way to travel. To travel efficiently a company in the
United States created something called UBER. Uber is the next big thing when it comes to travel
efficiency and it would benefit other countries as well.
Uber stands out from the rest of the crowd with four basic utilities that add a lot of value to the
customer experience. Uber first needed to form a way for not just one person to ride but for
multiple to ride and everyone in the Uber vehicle would split the difference in the price of the
Uber ride. Then Uber had to figure out a way to get an Uber to the customers in a timely fashion.
To complete that task Uber employed 160,000 Uber drivers by the end of 2014

Comparison Of Dwight D. Eisenhower And The Army Leadership...
When President Eisenhower spoke these words to the graduating cadets, whose place he had
stood in exactly forty years prior, he drew on decades of experience as an officer in the United
States Army but only two years of experience as the President of the United States. President
Eisenhower had already accomplished a massive goal at the time he made this address, which
was to end the Korean War just months after his inauguration, and the majority of his time in
office was still ahead of him. Little did President Eisenhower know, these words would ring loud
and true for his own time in office. In the years to come, President Eisenhower would draw on
the traits outlined in the Army Leadership Requirements Model, which would make him a great
Army leader and, subsequently, a great president. These traits would serve as the baseline for
Eisenhower to develop Fred Greenstein s presidential leadership traits and excel in the presidency.

Herding On The Major European Stock Exchange Index
2.Herding in European and U.K. markets a.Herding in Europe Feng and Seasholes (2004) wrote a
paper concerning the geographical delimitations of herding behaviour. They found that there is a
significant correlation of trading behaviour made by investors on stock markets and that this
correlation increases exponentially when investors are selling and buying within a specific
geographical area. Indeed, the study showed that trades, which can be either sales or purchases,
are deeply correlated when we split investors geographically. That correlates with the findings of
Zhou Lai (2009) who state that herding measures may differ in stocks according to geographic
regions and classification of industries. Stavroyiannis Babalos (2013) conducted an extremely
relevant research project by investigating the existence of herding behaviour on the major European
Stock Exchange Indexes. Indeed they gathered daily data during a period from the 15th of April
2005 to the 31st of December 2012, and the results indicated that herding behaviour can be strongly
identified in the South European countries during the 2008 crisis period. When times are
considered as normal periods , models, mainly the rational asset pricing one, show that the
distribution in cross sectional returns is going to increase in the same trend as the absolute value of
the returns on the markets, because investors are usually trading with their diverse private
information. Nonetheless, they also found that during

If Belstaff was a person, it would definitely be an intrepid, tough and stylish man, who drinks the

Although only 5 % of Sula’s wine brands are exported, Sula...
Although only 5 % of Sula s wine brands are exported, Sula has been venturing into newer
markets across the globe. Over the last 6 years, Sula s Global Brand Ambassador led Sula s
introduction into new markets such as Canada, Belgium and the Middle East and emerging markets
like China are in pipeline this year.
Realizing that the global wine market is competitive and brand sensitive, Sula has used a wherein it
partners with international distributors. For instance, the company has recently launched the

Finally, this strategy we believe is a stepping stone till Sula increases its awareness in the global
market via the distributors and starts making independent forays.
Sula has been relying on and in many instances touting it s nasik roots to project itself as the finest
wines available from the best wine region in India. This is also reflected in the branding adopted
with their range available through Laithwaithe s.
However, Nasik is not the only wine growing region in India and with the recent acceptance and
uptake of wine in India as well as abroad, a slew of new players have emerged, some even
predating Sula. Established wine makers, much like Sula have developed several regions pan
India and have imported, harvested and crushed grapes in these regions. Some examples of the
same are, Grover Vineyards in Nandi Hills, The Port wines of Goa such as Vinicola, Chateau D
Ori with its presence in Dindori, Four Seasons in Baramati and Chateau Indage Narayangaon.
Each of these regions can lay claim to unique branding opportunities and representation on
International tables and wine lists. Furthermore, greater the acceptance and adoption of Sula across
the world, greater the chance that distributors would eventually add other brands to their selections.

The Dangers Of Texting And Driving
Another solution that has been put into practice is the fact that texting and driving is illegal.
However, the restriction of using mobile devices while driving is currently only applied in 39
states (Simon). This makes it so that 11 states do not enact such legislation and therefore, this
solution does not work. Many of these states laws are generally not enforced due to the fact that
it is difficult to execute. Although it is illegal, the law has not stopped people from texting and
driving. Because punishments are not regularly recognized and are not strict enough, this
dangerous crime is often overlooked. The issue of texting and driving is often advertised in
campaigns on signs, the radio, or television. Although these advertisements encourage drivers
not to participate in this hazardous habit, they are just as disregarded as the law for restricted
cell phone use. These signs often do not appeal to the emotions of the audience in order to have
the effect they are looking for. The ads would be more effective if they brought in real life
experiences and showed the consequences that occur by texting and driving. The success of
these ads may increase if they showed a person in jail for murder from texting and driving or a
person who may have been paralyzed from being in an accident that may have been caused by
distracted driving. In these cases, the audience will see the physical effects that this problem causes
and will have a better chance of remembering the ad and

Theme Of The Animals In That Country
Atwood constantly pits civilization against the wilderness surrounding it and society against the
savagery from which it arose. She considers these oppositions to be some of the defining
principles of Canadian literature. They also provide a metaphor for the divisions within the human
personality. Society, civilization, and culture represent the rational, contained side of humanity,
while the wild forest represents the very opposite: the irrational, primeval, and carnal impulses
that exist in every living being. In The Animals in That Country, Atwood dramatizes the civilized
urge to ignore the wildness lurking just over the horizon: in Progressive Insanities of a Pioneer,
she captures this theme with particular vividness: In the darkness the fields / defend themselves
with fences / in vain: / everything / is getting in. Atwood elaborates on the uselessness of
defending oneself against the wilderness in The Journals of Susanna Moodie, an account of a
European immigrant s struggles to navigate the wildernesses of Canada, her adopted home. Almost
every poem deals with this tension in some form. In This is a photograph of me, the serene natural
setting presents a startling contrast to the human tragedy it masks. The glossy [m]ountains and
lakes and more lakes depicted on the wall in At the Tourist Centre in Boston succeed only in
reminding the viewer of the gritty reality beneath the pictures. In Siren Song, the jagged cliffs
pulverize carefree sailors, who are in,

Introduction
Site Comparison
Each site location has its pros and cons in terms of economic, environmental and social aspect of
sustainability. Since this is a building site for University of Calgary to showcase sustainability, it is
important that the building itself is sustainable. Various of criteria will be set in correspondence to
these three aspects of sustainability to quantify the sustainable value of each site.
Environmental Sustainability

Site 3 Flood Zone and Green Area
Flood Zone
Flooding from the river is one of the key natural disaster that Calgary faces, hence, one of the
major concerns of the sustainability of this building is whether the site is situated within the
flood zone. Per the Province of Alberta Flood Hazard Map (See Appendix A), the flood line of
each location is mapped in Figure 1, 2, and 3. From that, we can conclude that site 2 will not be
affected by the flood, whereas site 1 is situated very close to the flood line and site 3 completely
overlaps with it, which may not be the optimal site.
APPENDIX A of FLOOD MAP
Green Area
The quality of air and the accessibility to green area is a key factor to the environmental
sustainability of this building. Areas of public parks and green spaces are mapped in green in the
figures above (1). Site 1 arguably has the least amount of green space. There are two city parks

Romantic Love In Romeo And Juliet
Though some may simply know romantic love as an intense bond between individuals devoted to
one another, its effects in reality are not always as beautiful as the concept. Particularly when it is
frowned upon by society and the people involved also swim against the current, the consequences
of this type of lovecan be damaging to others outside the romance. In William Shakespeare s
Romeo and Juliet, the actions of the young lovers in their desire to be together not only steer the
course of their lives, but also those of their friends, families, and other citizens in the city. The
unfortunate series of events following Romeo and Juliet s choice to reach beyond traditional
gender roles, a standard courtship, and their established social networks reveal the importance of
complying with these norms. By highlighting the chaos in Verona on the path to Romeo and
Juliet s eventual demise, Shakespeare suggests that intense romantic love that threatens
relationships and expectations in the established social order leads to tragedy. From the
beginning of the play, Romeo s tendency to moon over women is not received positively by his
friends. After enduring Romeo s heartbroken moping over the unattainable Rosaline, Benvolio
encourages his cousin to pursue other ladies and take some new infection to [his] eye (1.2. 51) so

The Representation Of The Society Through Art
Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human
revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the
advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However,
the artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways.
Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow

characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In A Madman s Diary, the
author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for thousands of years has

rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is

  • 3. Eminent Domain Purposes 1.When does a taking occur for eminent domain purposes? Refer to the Lucas case. Eminent domain refers to the inherent power of the state to take or seize the private property of its individual citizens. Property taken through eminent domain is mainly set aside for the development of public utilities or assigned to a third party who is then supposed to use it for the general good of the public (Larson, 2004). There are generally four types of takings employed by the state through eminent domain. These are: a.Complete Taking This is where the state seizes an entire propertyin for public use. In the case of Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council (1992), the plaintiff was entitled to compensation as a result of the complete taking of his land. However the Supreme Court denied him any compensation stating that the restriction imposed on the use of the land was in the interest of the general public due to the intended use of the land. Therefore the Takings Clause does not apply in this case in spite of the economic benefits lost incurred as a result of the complete taking of his property. b.Partial Taking The state in this case takes a portion of a particular property mainly for the expansion of the existing utilities. The owner of the property is liable for compensation in regard to the piece of land seized and any resulting decline in the value of the remaining property. c.Temporary Taking The government may require a piece of land to be used as a site when ... • 4. The Observation Of A Four Year Old Malen.b From birth to the toddler stage a child changes significantly from facial features, to walking and sleeping much less during the day. At the age of four his vocabulary increases significantly, the child can even put together sentences. They are like little people twith some sense of independence. This paper will focus on the observation of a four year old male N.B conducted on March 6, 2015 from 5:00 pm 5:30 pm and March 7, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 4:30. The paper will provide examples of Piaget s theory, Vygotsky s theory as well as apply these examples to the cognitive and development of the child. Piaget s pre operational stage focuses on the use of symbols, language use, memory and imagination to evaluate the child. During this stage it is noted that thinking is done in a nonlogcial and nonreversible manner. For instance, N.B. used Lego s and hot wheel tracks to build a make believe wall. The invention of the internet, the change in views on race, religion and the institution of marriage and many other changes too numerous to mention. There are three important processes that facilitate these changes, cultural processes (invention, discovery, and diffusion), social conflict, ideas, and demographic patterns. Along with social change, modernity has allowed our society to change. In industrial capitalist societies, he maintained, the struggle between capitalists and workers pushes society toward a socialist system of production. Marx vision about social conflict arising from inequality has proven to be correct and that it does create changes in every society. Without ideas, and men with dreams, there would be no innovation and little social change. Max Weber believed that most social change came from ideas. For example, it takes just one man with a charismatic message to inspire and change the world. Weber (1958, orig. 1904 l905) also high lighted the importance of ideas by revealing how the religious beliefs of early Protestants set the stage for the spread of industrial capitalism. Ideas unite people in a common goal allowing social change to take place, such as creating a new neighborhood watch program or protesting wall street for more income equality. As populations grow and change, demographic patterns play a part in social change. Some patterns include change in household size, women having fewer children, the age of the population, and the migration from one place to another. In America, households have been shrinking over the last century and family size is about half of what it used to be. Also, women are deciding to have fewer children, and more people are living alone. It is simply natural for skin to become thinner, produce less collagen, elastin, and decrease cellular regeneration as you get older. There is not much you can do about these internal causes of aging, but there are external causes of aging skin that you can control to some extent. The number one external reason skin ages is exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) rays of direct sunlight over extended periods. Ultraviolet rays break down elastin and collagen and hamper the production of new collagen, which the skin naturally produces to repair the damage. Research Note On Distressed Debt Research Note on Distressed Debt Distressed securities are securities of companies or government that are experiencing distress (either in financial or operational terms), default, or even bankruptcy. In case of debt, this is called distressed debt. Investing in distressed debt can result in big returns, but the downside is that when a company goes completely bankrupt, the value of your securities can go to zero. Distressed debt sells at a very low percentage of par value, for example 30 cents on the dollar. This percentage indicates that you can buy debt that is worth 1$ at maturity for 30 cents, which seems very attractive but there is of course a reason that it is only worth 30 cents on the dollar. There are various ways investors can invest in distressed debt. The easiest way is to buy the distressed debt in the bond market. Because most mutual funds are not allowed to invest in distressed debt, there is ample supply of debt available shortly after a firm defaults. The second way is to buy distressed debt directly from a mutual fund, since they have to sell according to their mandate. These transactions are generally limited to institutional investors since large quantities of debt, and therefore large quantities of cash, exchange hands. The third and final options is to buy directly into the distressed firm. Having lived in a time of totalitarianism regime, Orwell had a firsthand account of its horrific lengths and negative affects. Another aspect of Orwell s prophetic novel is the thought of technology. During the time that Orwell wrote 1984, the radio was more comment than the television and computers had not even been considered. Nonetheless, Orwell found a way to include these things in his story. The tele screen could be related to the modern TV. Also, in the book, the control of machinery and sources of information are controlled by computers. Orwell uses technology in this book to show that these things that were made to help man, can lead to the corruptness and downfall of society, much like what is being seen today. Living in a world that continues to make advancements technologically and politically, a book written more than 50 years ago still warns the world of what could happen if government becomes too forceful. Because of George Orwell s strong hatred for totalitarianism and its life dictating qualities, readers can get a taste of the perfect dystopia . Though the people of today have been warned and are afraid of an all controlling government, they continue to allow the concept of 1984 to become more and more real. Jewish tradition holds the preservation of human life as one of its supreme moral values. It takes precedence over virtually all other moral values to the degree that only the violation of three cardinal sins (idolatry, adultery and murder) in limited circumstances can claim precedence over the imperative to preserve life. Nevertheless, Judaism acutely linked to the reality of the human condition realizes there are circumstances in which a person might long for death. The Talmud reports of Rabbi Judah the Prince suffering great pain from an illness and his righteous maidservant praying for his death as an end to his suffering. At least one commentator cites this passage as an approbation of praying for the merciful death for one suffering in pain from illness. Even with this appreciation of our human reality, Jewish Law does not reduce the mandate that we preserve life, even under the most challenging conditions. While rabbinic authorities, ancient and modern, debate whether under limited circumstances medical treatments may be withheld from a suffering person (thus, no longer delaying an inevitable death), it is abundantly clear that one may not proactively hasten death. At the same time, Jewish Law would endorse the aggressive palliation of pain to a degree not currently practiced in the medical profession. Another quote which gives the reader a sense of loss is the final stanza of the poem: And they, since they were not the ones dead, turned to their affairs , in line 33 34. • 13. Utilitarianism, Virtue And Care Ethics The three ethical theories I will discuss from Chapter 1 include: utilitarianism, virtue and care ethics. First, the utilitarianism is moral standard and a theory of action by humans that are morally right in action. Utilitarianism is an action that is morally right if its consequences are more favorable. One way for businesses , as our reading suggests (Fieser Moseley, 2012), is make a list of all the good and bad for any particular act. If the good outweighs the bad then that action should occur. If the bad outweighs the good, then the action should stop. Utilitarianism theory attempts to keep things on the positive, happier side of the spectrum. A company using this theory is probably functioning well due to their morale analysis of actions related to safe products, good quality products and customer care, a fair price, and fair and equal treatment to their employees. In addition, because utilitarianism is a morale standard, a company would be environmentally conscious and find ways to help the community and the world. A company would work at making their products in an environmentally safe way, recycle surplus and make their products within the United States to support the economy. A company would also look at balancing goods over harm produced to the environment or people. Lastly, if a company were to be very successful, they should donate some of their proceeds back into the community (environmentally or local community support) or employees (bonuses, ... They found that there is a significant correlation of trading behaviour made by investors on stock markets and that this correlation increases exponentially when investors are selling and buying within a specific geographical area. Indeed, the study showed that trades, which can be either sales or purchases, are deeply correlated when we split investors geographically. That correlates with the findings of Zhou Lai (2009) who state that herding measures may differ in stocks according to geographic regions and classification of industries. Stavroyiannis Babalos (2013) conducted an extremely relevant research project by investigating the existence of herding behaviour on the major European Stock Exchange Indexes. Indeed they gathered daily data during a period from the 15th of April 2005 to the 31st of December 2012, and the results indicated that herding behaviour can be strongly identified in the South European countries during the 2008 crisis period. When times are considered as normal periods , models, mainly the rational asset pricing one, show that the distribution in cross sectional returns is going to increase in the same trend as the absolute value of the returns on the markets, because investors are usually trading with their diverse private information. This is also reflected in the branding adopted with their range available through Laithwaithe s. • 27. The Dangers Of Texting And Driving Another solution that has been put into practice is the fact that texting and driving is illegal. However, the restriction of using mobile devices while driving is currently only applied in 39 states (Simon). This makes it so that 11 states do not enact such legislation and therefore, this solution does not work. Many of these states laws are generally not enforced due to the fact that it is difficult to execute. Although it is illegal, the law has not stopped people from texting and driving. Because punishments are not regularly recognized and are not strict enough, this dangerous crime is often overlooked. The issue of texting and driving is often advertised in campaigns on signs, the radio, or television. Although these advertisements encourage drivers not to participate in this hazardous habit, they are just as disregarded as the law for restricted cell phone use. These signs often do not appeal to the emotions of the audience in order to have the effect they are looking for. The ads would be more effective if they brought in real life experiences and showed the consequences that occur by texting and driving. The success of these ads may increase if they showed a person in jail for murder from texting and driving or a person who may have been paralyzed from being in an accident that may have been caused by distracted driving. In these cases, the audience will see the physical effects that this problem causes and will have a better chance of remembering the ad and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Theme Of The Animals In That Country Atwood constantly pits civilization against the wilderness surrounding it and society against the savagery from which it arose. She considers these oppositions to be some of the defining principles of Canadian literature. They also provide a metaphor for the divisions within the human personality. Society, civilization, and culture represent the rational, contained side of humanity, while the wild forest represents the very opposite: the irrational, primeval, and carnal impulses that exist in every living being. In The Animals in That Country, Atwood dramatizes the civilized urge to ignore the wildness lurking just over the horizon: in Progressive Insanities of a Pioneer, she captures this theme with particular vividness: In the darkness the fields / defend themselves with fences / in vain: / everything / is getting in. Atwood elaborates on the uselessness of defending oneself against the wilderness in The Journals of Susanna Moodie, an account of a European immigrant s struggles to navigate the wildernesses of Canada, her adopted home. Almost every poem deals with this tension in some form. In This is a photograph of me, the serene natural setting presents a startling contrast to the human tragedy it masks. • 36. Romantic Love In Romeo And Juliet Though some may simply know romantic love as an intense bond between individuals devoted to one another, its effects in reality are not always as beautiful as the concept. Particularly when it is frowned upon by society and the people involved also swim against the current, the consequences of this type of lovecan be damaging to others outside the romance. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the actions of the young lovers in their desire to be together not only steer the course of their lives, but also those of their friends, families, and other citizens in the city. The unfortunate series of events following Romeo and Juliet s choice to reach beyond traditional gender roles, a standard courtship, and their established social networks reveal the importance of complying with these norms. By highlighting the chaos in Verona on the path to Romeo and Juliet s eventual demise, Shakespeare suggests that intense romantic love that threatens relationships and expectations in the established social order leads to tragedy. From the beginning of the play, Romeo s tendency to moon over women is not received positively by his friends. After enduring Romeo s heartbroken moping over the unattainable Rosaline, Benvolio encourages his cousin to pursue other ladies and take some new infection to [his] eye (1.2. 51) so that the rank poison of the old will die (1.2. 52). Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when introducing the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the madman. The vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very words that are employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore, the themes that the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun criticizes the four thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human cannibalism. Through an insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people go through and have come to perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses characterization to bring out the issues that would be considered uncomfortable in such governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has the social freedom to say anything and is more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal system injustices. Apart from characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In A Madman s Diary, the author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for thousands of years has enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between the poor and the rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
