Comparing Odysseus s Pride And The Gods
Raul G Rodriguez
Dr. Cook

February 6, 2015
Odysseus s pride and the Gods The two issues that will be discussed will be whether Odysseus s
downfall was himself or the gods. When Odysseus and his men leave to return home after the Trojan
War, the ocean currents and wind throw them off course constantly. When they land they find
themselves on an island with Cyclops roaming everywhere. Odysseus and his handpicked men head
into a cave where he helps himself to the food. After sometime the Cyclops that resides in that cave
returns and traps them. Being hungry the Cyclops eats two of the men. Odysseus then devises a plan
to escape; he gets the Cyclops drunk on the wine he receive from a priest he saved, next Odysseus
says his name is nobody, then he takes a sharpened olive branch and blinds the Cyclops. The Cyclops
goes outside and yells nobody is hurting me! so the other Cyclops on the island ignore him. Odysseus
and his men escape back to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How all Odysseus s problems start was at the Cyclops Island when he yelled his name to the Cyclops
that prayed to the god Poseidon and had Odysseus curse. Only after Odysseus angers the Cyclops that
is a demigod does he have to pay. Granted the Cyclops in the cave did eat two of his men, but gods
only the offenses others have done to them and nothing more. Next at the Witch s island Odysseus
saves his men and stays with the witch for a year despite his crew s wishes, that creates a shred of
distrust between them. Eventually that causes a domino effect after Hades and the monster where
Odysseus hides behind his men; when they land on the sun god s island. The men go behind Odysseus
s back when he is asleep and kill the flocks that were on that island. From this the Sun god pleads to
Zeus for vengeance. Zeus creates a storm that kills his men. In this sense the gods are a reactive force,
to the one action Odysseus made on the Cyclops

Australian Submarine Essay
Factually the Australian submarine was captured by a manta shaped invisible craft fifteen minutes ago.
Two water drop shaped boxes shot to the front of the submarine and stuck on it, the boxes tails
connected with wires. The boxes on both sides of the sub s front emitted out special electromagnetic
pulse to malfunction the whole vessel, the sub lost propulsion and all kinds of communications.
Needless to say its machines totally blackout. The manta shaped invisible craft dragged it under the
King Haakon VII Sea floor near Antarctica, It was around Longitude zero degree, Latitude minus sixty
four degrees. In other words it s four hundred kilometers offshore from the Sanae Research Base
which located in Vesleskarvet. Now the depth is four thousand meters ... Show more content on

Inside the sub the captain, the pilot and the crews all surprised with the data they saw. The pilot says:
Captain, where are we? You see the sonar and radar show our surrounding seems like an artificial
structure, but our depth is 4,178 meters below sea surface. The captain says: neither do I know, at this
moment the hatch door above the conning tower is knocking by someone with certain metal tool. The
captain watches and twists the periscope to the hatch door position, and says: What the hell is the man
doing, he lights a welding torch wanted to weld open our door! Don t let him damage the door
otherwise we have no chance to escape. Open the hatch door, we go out and check it out, bring your
weapon. The pilot takes his gun, so as the captain. The sub has thirty men all gather in the conning
tower and below it, taking some guns and tools getting ready to

Uniforms in School
The standard issue school uniform of khaki, navy and white once exclusive to the private parochial
institutions is becoming a common requirement in public schools across the nation. This trend that
was first suggested for public schools in 1980 by then D. C. mayor, Marion Barry, to help diminish the
social stigma of low income students has grown significantly in both numbers and reasons (Lawrence,
2013). In 2010, it was reported by the National Center for Education Statistics, that nearly 19% of the
nation s public schools now require a mandated school uniform (Campbell, n.d.). While there are quite
a number of opponents to such a policy in the public schools, the benefits are numerous. Students
following a school uniform policy are less likely to focus on clothing as a means for determining
status) and may experience less stress from being judged by the type or cost of clothing they wear
(Campbell, n.d.; Cascio, n.d.). All too often society is judged and defined by the clothing of an
individual from its style to cost to fit. By removing this outward factor as a labeling status, students
are placed on a more even playing field leaving competitions for the sports fields rather than the
classroom runway. Less classroom completion in fashion allows more time to focus on studies. School
uniforms also helps to create a sense of community and belonging, much as a member of a sports team
that wears a uniform might feel (Buesing, n.d.). A sense of belonging as a member of a

Methods Of An Adult English As A Second Language ( Esl )...
Introduction: The purpose of this paper is to explore the methods are used in an Adult English as a
Second Language (ESL) classroom. I am interested in what types of activities facilitate students
understanding, make students comfortable, and encourage student participation. I chose to concentrate
on this aspect of second language (L2) learning because as a future teacher, I believe it is important to
be mindful and use activities and interactions that appeal and are beneficial to all students. This study
made me more aware of the interactions and activities used in the classroom. In order to narrow down
the investigation, the following three research questions were formulated:
1. What methods are used in the classroom?
2. What activities are used in the classroom and what method do they align with?
3. Do students respond to some activities more than others?
Theoretical Context: There are many methods that have been formed regarding second language
acquisition. According to Brown (2014), the communicative method emphasizes authenticity,
interaction, student centered learning, task based activities, and communication for real world,
meaningful purposes (369). A main tenant of the communicative method is second language
acquisition transpires within a communicative environment. According to Brown (2014), the Total
Physical Response is a method that relies on physical or kinesthetic movement accompanied by
language practice (382). The main ideas of Total Physical

Pay for Performance Paper
The need to improve both the quality and the safety of health care in the United States is well
documented. Traditional strategies to stimulate improvement include regulation, measurement of
performance and subsequent feedback, and marketplace competition. Despite limited evidence, public
reporting of hospital quality data and pay for performance have emerged as two of the most widely
advocated strategies for accelerating quality improvement (Lindenauer, 2007). Quality health care is
very important to both physicians and patients because in essence everyone wants to be in good health
in order to live a long quality life. The United States has a lot of work to do on providing its citizens
with quality health care and one such innovation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These payment structures have led to concerns about undersupply of needed services (Virtual Mentor,
2006). The quality of health care is directly affected by the system costs. The cost of health care has
always been a major concern in the United States. With managed care systems and pay for
performance approaches cost does directly affect the quality. The major questions that surround this
issue is are physicians being paid fairly for their services, and are the services deserving of the costs
associated with it. These questions may not be fully answered to the preference of those involved with
health care. The cost of health care will always be a debatable question but in essence there needs to
be some type of commission that can fairly determine cost of health care services so that all parties
involved are compensated fairly. A physician takes an oath to provide quality care to their patients no
matter the cost but the physician also deserves to be compensated fairly for the services they do
provide. According to the AMA, fair and ethical PFP programs are committed to improved patient
care as their most important mission. Evidence based quality of care measures, created by physicians
across appropriate specialties, is the measures used in the programs (AMA 2005). Principals of the

Essay on Gender Barriers in Athletics
Gender Barriers in Athletics
2. What are the social and cultural costs and benefits of an individual (male or female) entering a non
traditional sport for their gender/sex (eg women who enter body building, power lifting, boxing; men
who enter synchronized swimming or field hockey)?
Throughout history it is clear that not only women, but both genders have faced seemingly
insurmountable barriers when attempting to break into a sport that is not proper or stereotypical for
their gender to participate in. Though as a society we are making strides towards equality in sport,
such as the advent of Title IX, it is clear that we still have a long way to go. Though breakthrough
policies such as this are moving in the right direction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even organizations that claim to push for equality in sport seem to perpetuate these stereotypes
themselves, an example of which is a quote found on the website organized by the Canadian
Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity: CAAWS is in business
to encourage girls and women to get out of the bleachers, off the sidelines, and onto the fields and
rinks, into the pools, locker rooms and board rooms of Canada .
(http://www.caaws.ca/english/index.htm) Though this association does seem to have the right idea in
mind, to get women out of the bleachers, off the sidelines , they perpetuate ideas of normative female
sport participation by instructing women to go to pools and rinks, implying swimming and ice skating,
stereotypical female sports, instead of instructing them to go to boxing rings or basketball courts.
The quote above also raises another interesting issue by connecting equality in sport with equality in
the workplace. Throughout history, these two ideas seem to run directly parallel to one another, and
even reflect the state of the other. As women have continued to become a stronger force in the
workplace, they also seem to be breaking through the gender constricting barriers of sport at the same
time. This idea reflects the inclination of our society to keep women in roles that are normative not
only in dealing with sport, but throughout all other areas of a woman s life as well. In this manner, a
good course of action in

How the Media Influences the Public Perception of Science...
Sometimes careless science publishing can weaken the public s confidence in science and the
government. The Media is enormously powerful and leading and will influence people s opinions on
everything. There are plenty of stories in the media that will change the public s perception of science
or even make them see a new perception. Sometimes these stories are just written to scare the public
into believing a certain thing just so they can sell their stories.
Stories sometimes are true and sometimes they are false but it is up to the public to believe in what is
right and what is wrong. In this day and age, where information is available at the touch of a mouse, it
s not surprising that the media is a particularly dominant and powerful ... Show more content on

The tabloid newspaper is the Sun and the broadsheet newspaper is the Times.
Firstly I will analyse the story written by the Sun, this tabloid covered the same story as the Times and
therefore we can find out their intentions. The Sun had the following bold headline Deadly strain
confirmed , I can clearly see from the start that they are trying to create a scare in the public and
capture the reader s attention very fast, this is because they don t tell you what deadly strain they are
talking about, if I were to see this in a newspaper lying around I would pick it up because it already
got me worried and caught my attention. This has made me think, are they trying to inform the reader
or just trying to sell their story? You only learn what the deadly strain is after you read paragraph 1 so
this proves my point.
On the 3rd paragraph the Sun states the following the swan had the strain which can be fatal to
humans. Instead of just using the swan had the H5N1 strain the Sun chooses to create more of an
impact by using the word fatal and implying it to humans. This makes the beginning of the article to
cause fear, evoke an element of alarm and perhaps imply that the readers should be fearful for their
own health. The article also mentions experts rushing to the scene to

Jazz Concert Report Sample
On March 30th, 2017 I attended a well performed jazz concert at Prince George s Community
College. The concert was performed by a group called The Reginald Cyntje Group. The Reginald
Cyntje Group was made up of Brian Settles, Herman Burney, Lenny Robinson, Hope Udobi, and
Reginald Cyntje. The group performed seven songs including: The Rise of the Protester, Ballad for the
Masses, Chant of the Revolt, Descension and Ascension, No Justice No Peace, The Piece of
Resistance, and Blues People vs the Deplorables. While I enjoyed all of the songs my favorite was the
Dance of the Crooked Heads, which will be the topic of my report.
The Dance of the Crooked Heads was performed by Settles playing a tenor saxophone, Burney
playing a bass, Robinson playing drums, Udobi playing the piano, and Cyntje playing the trombone.
There was not anyone singing or doing vocals. The genre of the song was jazz and the musical style of
the composition was instrumental. I believe it is instrumental because it did not contain a voice
accompaniment, only instrumental. As stated before the genre is jazz, which can be said has smooth
and unrestricted sounds and I think this describes The Dance of the Crooked Heads perfectly. The
song also has an element of jazz which is syncopation. Syncopation is when there is a variety of the
rhythms of the song and they made a part or all of the song off beat. ... Show more content on

Queen Gertrude in Shakespeare s Hamlet a Victim not Murderer
Gertrude never seems to get in the middle of Hamlet and Claudius disputes, so many tend to assume
that she is involved in King Hamlet s murder. However, there is an abundance of in text evidence that
suggests she is very innocent and oblivious to Claudius plots throughout the play. Most of this
evidence supporting that Gertrude has nothing to do with King Hamlet s sudden death. From the start,
Gertrude comes off as a very clueless and almost blind character to the things happening around her.
She mourns for the death of the man she loved, but with her country in mind does what she thinks is
best. Sadly, while doing so, she involves herself in a dispute that turns deadly. It is very obvious
throughout the play that Queen Gertrude and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of asking ridiculous questions and going haywire, like her new husband, Gertrude simply
comments on the acting by saying, ? The lady protests too much, methinks? (Shakespeare 3.2.168).
She even becomes baffled by Claudius? strange behavior when he screams, ?Give me some light,
away!? (Shakespeare 3.2.172). Gertrude clearly did now know the plot line of the play before having
seen it, therefore she could not have been involved in the making of it earlier in the play. When
problems with Ophilia and Hamlet arise, Claudius simply sees this as another opportunity to quiet
Hamlet. He encourages the relationship, hoping if Hamlet is seeing Polonius? daughter, he wont speak
out about his suspicions of Claudius. Although, when Gertrude gets word of these news, she sees this
as a completely different opportunity. She, unlike her new husband, encourages the relationship in
hopes that it will cheer up her son and he will return to normal. She says to Ophilia, ?And for your
part, Ophelia, I do wish that your good beauties be the happy cause of Hamlet s wildness. So shall I
hope your virtues will bring him to his wonted way again, to both your honors? (Shakespeare
3.1.136). Gertrude only thinks of her sons well being. In which case, if she had been involved in King
Hamlets murder, she would probably be more worried about not being caught instead of how to make
Hamlet happy again. If Gertrude was Claudius? partner in crime, one would assume that he would let

Creon As A Tragic Hero In Antigone, By Sophocles
A tragedy is a relative term for great sadness, but in the times of the Greeks and the Romans, the word
tragedy had a slightly different meaning. Aristotle defined a tragic hero as one who has a major
character flaw and experiences a tragedy leading to that character s downfall. The character must
experience a loss in fortune and suffer beyond what they deserve. In the story Antigone was written by
Sophocles, Creon can be defined as a tragic hero more so than Antigone. Creon is the king of Thebes;
he is stubborn but loyal. His loyalties lie with his city, and he believes that personal affairs come
second to the city of Thebes. After the rebels, atack Thebes Creon enacts a law stating that Polynices,
one of the rebels, is forbidden to be buried. Furthermore, he declares that burial of Polynices will be
punishable by death. In Ancient Greece a burial determined entrance into the afterlife. Creon reckoned
that Polynices was an enemy of the state who did not deserve entrance into the afterlife. However,
Polyneices sister, Antigone, wants to bury her brother. Antigone believes that family matters should
take priority over conflicts of the state. Additionally, because the gods did not proclaim this law
Antigone believes she should not have to follow Creon s law. Creon argues the point of civil law while
Antigone places power in moral law. Civil law is the idea that the person in a position of power makes
the laws and that no one, not even the king is above the law. Moral law is

Should The Government Legalize Marijuana
Marijuana costs the federal government hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money every year.
The government is spending this money to help enforce and regulate marijuana laws in states that
have legalized the drug for both medical and recreational use. This drug should only be restricted to
those who need it for medical purposes. Recreational use of marijuana has become a big drain of tax
dollars, to fix this problem marijuana should be only used for medical purposes, and there should be a
limit on how much you can have in your possession at one time. Marijuana comes from the hemp
plant, and can be grown in a variety of places. Marijuana was first found by Europeans in 1545 in
america. It was first used as a household item to cure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many advocates that are against legalization of marijuana that since it can lead to health problems

it should remain legal because it can help people with pain management caused by diseases.
Promoters of the drug also think that if marijuana becomes legalized in every state that it could
actually decrease the amount of underage users and abusers of the drug. The United States government
has not stated whether or not a law should be passed. Currently there is a law that states the drug is
illegal but the states are still protected. According to the 10th amendment, the power is given to the
states and the people. This means that the states are protected against government interference. There
needs to be a law put in place that does not abolish marijuana, but a law that lets people with medical
issues use the drug, but doesn t allow recreational

Self Identity In Renaissance Plays
Self identity is a prominent notion in many Renaissance plays. Most of these plays are concerned with
deceit and change of identity. Oftentimes, the devious characters are the ones who show a part of
themselves at a certain point in the play and as the story progresses they unveil a different side of
them. In most of the Renaissance dramas that were discussed, almost all the plays have at least one
character with questionable identity. This notion of identity is one of the most important themes in
Thomas Middleton and William Rowley s The Changeling. Fluid identity is seen in characters such as
Beatrice; however, De Florez s identity is more ambiguous and should be analyzed differently. When a

Bosola is one of the few characters that are so ambiguous that it is difficult to place him into any type
of mold. More specifically, his identity is one big question mark because it can be seen very
differently from different perspectives. At the beginning of the play, in one of Bosola s first speeches,
he portrays a secure character that sees the two brothers for what they truly are. Bosola describes them
as plum trees that grow crooked over standing pools (1.1.49 50). Bosola s description leads the reader
to think of him as someone with a strong character who will not be pushed around and dominated by
the brothers who seem to be in control of every other character s lives. Bosola s moral security is
again reinforced when Ferdinand offers him gold to spy on the duchess, but Bosola refuses, claiming
that he will not be bought, Take your devils, which hell calls angels! These cursed gifts would make
you a corrupter, me and impudent traitor

Determinism Vs Libertarianism
Akash Shankar Richard Pulling 7 23 2015 Philosophy Are You Free The concept of determinism,
compatibilism and libertarianism is truly trying to explain if we are free and if so how much. Some of
us believe that we are the masters of our fate, our soul while others believe our destiny is
predetermined and that we are bound to a certain set goal in life. The concepts of determinism,
compatibilism and libertarianism try to help aid in that discussion and help enlighten us on what we
believe is the correct ideology. It is therefore extremely important to define what each of these three
concepts mean before comparing and contrasting the various arguments that each present. First off is
determinism, this is a view that every event, including human ... Show more content on

For example the deterministic view has one major weak side that is clearly seen in the Loeb and
Leopold case. Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold were two young men who had privileged families
and attended the best schools. However they murdered a fourteen year old boy to experience the thrill
of killing someone. The public wanted the death penalty to be handed down but attorney Clarence
Darrow fought and won a life imprisonment verdict (Chaffee 177).The attorney employed a hard
determinist argument to show the judge that his clients were victims of circumstance and they were
beyond their own control. He even says in the trial that nature is strong and she is pitiless. She works
in her own mysterious way, and we are her victims (Chaffee 177). His argument obviously worked as
the two young men were not sentenced to death. This one case in my opinion shows how determinism
does not make sense to me. I absolutely believe that the environment and the way were brought up has
an effect on how we act on the decisions we make. But at the end of the day I also believe that we
should be fully help responsible for the actions that we make. These two young men in my opinion
should have been punished to the full degree. The deterministic argument puts too much emphasis on
the environment and other factors instead of one s self in my opinion. I could be taught and raised to

Zen Buddhism Essay
Zen Buddhism was first introduced to China by a South
Indian man called Bodhidharma in around 520 CE. Bodhidharma, according to tradition, was a man so
epic that he removed his own eyelids in order to win a staring contest with a rock wall (from his
severed eyelids sprang tealeaves, and thus, the connection between Zen Buddhism and tea drinking).
The main teaching of Zen is that of zazen, or seated meditation, and that only through meditation and
action, rather than cogitation, can one achieve enlightenment (Elwood, 127 132).
There are two main sects of Zen Buddhism: Rinzai and Soto. Rinzai is the older of the two schools,
and was introduced to Japan by Eisai, a Tendai monk who traveled to China and was disappointed to

If the new tenzo, or cook, makes a mistake...a senior monk will surely give him a tongue lashing in
front of everyone. The cook will be criticized if the rice is too hard, the soup is too salty, the
vegetables have been cut too small, the tea is lukewarm, the faucet is left dripping (Hori, 13 14).
Hori goes on to say that if Zen Buddhist masters taught rationally, rather than intuitively, a new cook
would be taken aside for a while in the weeks preceding his appointment and shown how to cook
properly. However, in not being taught the proper way to prepare meals, and through being forced to
constantly be mindful of his actions and the effects they will have on the reactions of his fellow
monks, Zen is effectively being practiced.
Another thing that Rinzai and Soto have in common is their effort to keep monastic life simple to the
point of being almost primitive. This includes the use of wood fires, non flushing toilets, no running
water, no heating or air conditioning, and often no electricity. (Hori, 14) By not allowing the use of
modern, time saving innovations, Zen Buddhist monks are forced to spend much more time focused
on simple, day to day activities, again improving the general state of awareness that
Zen Buddhism seems to be all about.
Along the same lines, monasteries have strict, often harsh, rules dictating many mundane aspects of
everyday life. As we saw in the movie,

The Global Supply Chain Network
Executive Summary
The global supply chain network is often faces challenges in many directions. Currently the
environmental issues and the exhaustion of natural resources leads to complications and become the
prime factors which affects the cost, time and effort in global logistics and supply chain management.
An analysis of the Montreal based Cirque de soleil is done with various factors and criteria for
evaluation of the key issues. The key issues are distribution complexities, increasing transportation
cost, production inefficiency, delivery lead times and logistics partnership strategies. The objective is
to streamline the global supply chain network by redesigning the existing system with new integrated
model using CPFR (Collaborative Planning Forecasting and Replenishment). This concept is
effectively supported by the SAP System which integrates the demand management, better sales
forecasting, effective distribution and timely replenishment.
The analysis results with the identification of locations for the new distribution model and
substantiated with the rationale of site selection considering all criteria s. The implementation and the
SAP integration describe the action plans and come out with the pros and cons of the proposed supply
chain system. And finally concludes with the pros and cons of the new system. The objectives of the
key issues are resulted with the solution but the on the other side the strategic changes in the

Fashion in the 1920 s Essay
Fashion in the 1920 s
The Roaring Twenties brought many fads and fashion rages. During the 1920 s, Americans were given
the honor of being called the best dressed . Several things contributed to this honor: Affordable
pricing, mass production clothing, the birth of the flapper girl , and rise of fashionable movie stars that
Americans wanted to imitate.
The style and cut of women s clothing during the 1920 s changed drastically. Waistlines dropped
dramatically while hemlines rose scandalously. Turned down hose were no longer black, but beige.
Rouged knees, bobbed hair, and figureless figures characterized the radical flappers . These women
violated many of the rules dictating appropriate clothing and behavior for women. The ... Show more

The flapper girl trend peaked in 1926, leaving materials such as silk, chiffons, georgettes, crepes, and
voiles in high demand. Beads, sequins, and feathers also adorned the fashionable dresses. Coco
Chanel, a role model for the flapper, provided many styles, including the popular single strand of
pearls. Corsets were no longer popular, but instead the sexless figure was favored. Scarfs were often
draped over the shoulders if one could not afford a dead fox neck piece. However, the one thing that
distinguished the flapper from anyone else was the bobbed haircut. Although, efforts were made to
revive long hair, the bob remained stylish.
The fashionable flapper remained throughout the 20s, until the craze faded away with the oncoming
30s. The fads and rages of the flappers left an impression on Americans for years to come. These
radical women, who were considered immoral and distasteful, remain symbolic of the famous Roaring
20s.
The flapper fashion was borrowed by many of the women who lived in the 1920 s. But as it is with
every fashion craze, there are many different examples. The pictures that follow show some of the
other clothing items that were characteristic of the 1920 s. This beautiful velvet dress and jacket would

Back Bay Battery Strategy Essay
1. What was your strategy going into the simulation? Market data analysis stressed two main facts: i)
the promising potential of ultracapacitors and ii) surfacing mature market conditions for conventional
NiMH batteries. The first piece of information implied that it would be critical to beat the competition
and be the first company to offer customers the features and benefits they demanded in the new
product. That would have allowed Back Bay to gain a competitive advantage and keep existing
customers (that could easily switch from the company s conventional batteries to the company s
ultracapacitors) as well as attract new ones. The second piece of information implied that demand for

Only later in the second year did I learn that self discharge was also a very important feature
(specifically to the Power Packs market). 2. Did that strategy work for you? Why or why not? My
strategy seemed to work well for the first two years but then it became evident that I was losing
market share in the NiMH business. I decided to cut down R D in that division too early and that
caused me to miss my sales targets. As I lost market share in my core business, the volume effect from
my decision to lower NiMH prices did not compensate enough to allow that division to remain
profitable. Suddenly, I had a very tight R D budget to work with (as it was based on sales projections)
and limited cash could be allocated to the improvement of the ultracapacitors business. I also reacted
too late to the shift in customers demand for Power Packs products from Power Tools products, which
caused late and lower than needed investments in other products features such as self discharge (high
priority for both NiMH and ultracapacitors). 3. After having run through the simulation, what elements
of that strategy would you have changed and/or what strategy do you intend to pursue in the group
simulation? I believe that the fundamentals and criteria of my strategic approach were pointing in the
right direction. I assumed that the high growth potential market was for

Lysistrata, By Euripides And Lysistrata Essay
Lysistrata was written in ancient Greece, a time where women s position in society was no greater
than a servant. In Lysistrata, Aristophanes depicts Greek women challenging male authority through
their own femininity in a comic and light hearted way. Wether or not Aristophanes was trying to
challenge male authority or was simply making a joke out of women is unclear, but it is easy to note
what ancient Greeks thought of women simply by how they depicted in Lysistrata. Throughout the
play the women are frequently presented in a stereotypical manner of inferiority to the men. Even the
female protagonist, Lysistrata, describes women as a submissive sexually driven being. In the first
scene, Lysistrata castigates the women for not showing interest and commitment to her call to action.
She says Women! Announce a debauch in honor of Bacchos/...and traffic stops the streets are

character. Lysistrata s neighbor, Cleonice, continuous to describe the women in a stereotypical

Reflection On Conflict Theory
In this class, the idea of Conflict Theory was brought up very early on. I really enjoy the concept and
find it incredibly useful when considering complex topics. Conflict theory, which was originally a
concept in which Karl Marx is largely attributed, theorizes that conflict arises due to limited resources
and the competition to secure those resources. The theory says that as long as there is a limit on how
much of something there is (and since we all live on a giant ball that has a set amount of every
resource, there always will be), then there will be people who fight to have control of it. For me, I find
this theory in action everywhere, and I routinely use it as a logical deduction tool to deduce the
underlying motivations of those around me.
Whenever I see something strange happening around me, the first thing I do is ask myself: Who
profits from this? How do they profit? Why would they do that? After that, I ask myself who else
would want whatever is in question. For example, if I was asked to find a root cause for the ongoing
conflict in the middle east, I would ask who benefits from it. Once I do that, I would probably find that
a very large portion of the U.S. economy is derived from the import and export of petroleum, which is
highly abundant in the area. In fact, if the U.S. were to lose the oil imported from the middle east, then
disastrous wouldn t even come close to describing the economic turmoil that would ensue within the
United States. From this, I would undoubtedly conclude that the U.S. ( some other European
countries) are guilty of destabilizing the region in order to secure rights over their oil.
But this theory does not just apply to global issues. The idea of conflict applies everywhere, from
knowing what a possible future employer wants to hear, to understanding how much you are paying at
the register when you go grocery shopping. In fact, both of these ideas had a large impact on how I
landed my first job.
When I was in high school, seniors were required to participate in a 200 hour internship at local
businesses in order to graduate. It was during this time that I got an interview at a company known as
Social Eyes Marketing as a website designer. In that interview, I was

Venetian Masks In Venice, Italy During The 18th Century
Venetian masks were originally introduced in Venice, Italy during the enlightenment era in the 18th
century. The masks had many purposes. Some of those purposes being wearing them as an accessory
for party s, criminals would used them to hide their identity, or just simply as an arts craft. The main
way that the masks were used was to hide the wearers identity. Usually criminals because they did not
want their identity to be known. Servent s used them as well so that they would be recognized as
noblemen at events. They were worn mostly at carnivals and fairs. The masks were worn too much
that at a point they were banned from being worn on certain months. With the masks no one was

Crime Prevention And Community Safety Tactics
As a First Class Degree graduate in Social Sciences I feel that I am suitable for this role as not only
did I achieve such a prestigious qualification I undertook several modules at university which link in
to this occupation. I undertook the Crime, Criminology and Justice System module in my honours
year and obtained an A in the outcome, I found the lectures extremely fascinating and it allowed me to
deepen my understanding of crime prevention and community safety tactics. This module further
developed my knowledge and understanding regarding the criminal justice system as I critically
evaluated and assessed theories in relation to the different offending groups. Moreover, I have always
been fascinated with the criminal justice system and I feel that the clerical position is a stepping stone
for me to progress within Police Scotland.
I knew that I wanted a role within Police Scotland once I wrote about it as a stakeholder within my
Criminology assignment at University which I got an A for. I spent several days searching through
databases to understand the effectiveness and functions of it within the criminal justice system. Thus I
feel that the clerical position is suitable for me as it will enable me to play a key role within Police
Scotland whereby, I will be assisting in maintaining public support.
In addition, I feel that I am suitable for this role as I have proven my trust to my current brand as I
generally work by myself in Debenhams and represent the Wallis

failure in society and sets herself apart from her. Her mother is impatient and says that her daughter
doesn t understand the cultural meaning of the Chinese language and doesn t acknowledge the Chinese

Similarities Between Egyptian And Greek Women
To be a woman in any civilization is not an easy task. Even in today s century woman keep having
difficulties and differences with equality and rights. It is not surprising that those problems come from
many centuries ago. The best ancient civilization to be a woman was Egypt. They treated women
better than Roman Empire or Athens. That is why Egyptian woman became an example of female
autonomy in society for other civilizations. Egyptians view women and family as a crucial fact for
happiness and delight, they looked women as invidious with respect and not as objects like other
civilizations. In the first place, comparing contemporary women of Rome, Greece (especially
Mycenaean); Egyptian women live with a certain freedom, respect and free will, which put them in
many ways as equal as men. They could own property, borrow money, sign contracts, divorce, inherit,
be involved in religion and even appear in court. These rights did not make women wanting to be
better than the man, on the contrary it prevailed the will and obedience to man but always respecting
their autonomy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Minoan had more rights than Mycenaean; Minoan society granted women equality and freedom, but it
was only some rights and only in this society. Athenian men married younger girls so they were easier
to control and dominated. Outside of Minoan, women were restricted to organizing the household,
supervising the slaves, and performing domestic labor. They were also excluded from public affairs
and the majority lived separate from their husband s and did not had the privilege to eat dinner with
them. Husbands spent most of their free time with women known as hetaera; foreign but educated

Should Court System Require Alternative Dispute Resolution
Should court systems require alternative dispute resolution before a plaintiff is allowed to pursue his
or her lawsuit in court? I believe courts should require alternative dispute resolution.
Cases tend to be long, costly, and a headache for the state and the plaintiff when trying to reach a
decision. I think Mediation would be the best option for court systems before allowing cases to go to
trial. Mediation would allow for both parties to reach an agreement themselves through a third party
rather than allowing a court to decide for them. This would allow for both parties to come to a
common agreement that is usually more desirable than court decisions.
Mediation allows for two party s to reach an agreement through a mediator. The mediator

Women In Nazi Germany Essay
In Nazi Germany, women played a crucial role in expanding the Nazi ideology in Eastern Europe.
Women who were sent to Nazi occupied Eastern Europe were called Hitler s Furies , and were seen as
`racist motherliness : the women were urged to devote themselves selflessly to their German charges
while banishing from their minds any sympathy for the non German population. This indoctrination
was not always involuntary, many women of the time felt empowered at a time when many of these
women were still finding their identity. The services offered by the Nazi s gave them a sense of
belonging to society, as well as high hopes for making a difference in it. To travel appealed to many

distinguish between the short run and the long run costs. Recommend the key decision making criteria
that Katrina s Candies should use for expansion decisions in the short run and in the long run. Provide

Relevant costs are those that are avoidable or can be eliminated by choosing one alternative over
another. Relevant costs are also known as differential, or incremental, costs. In general, variable costs
are relevant in production decisions because they vary with the level of production. Likewise, fixed
costs are generally not relevant, because they typically do not change as production changes.

c) Cash flow: Expenses such as depreciation are not cash flows and are therefore not relevant.
Similarly, the book value of existing equipment is irrelevant, but the disposal value is relevant.
d) Common costs: Costs which will be identical for all alternatives are irrelevant, e.g. rent or rates on
a factory would be incurred whatever products are produced.
e) Sunk costs: Another name for past costs, which are always irrelevant, e.g. dedicated fixed assets,
development costs already incurred.
f) Committed costs: A future cash outflow that will be incurred anyway, whatever decision is taken
now, e.g. contracts already entered into which cannot be altered.
g) Out of pocket cost requires future outlay of cash and results from management s decisions; is
relevant.
h) Opportunity cost is potential benefit lost by taking specific action when two or more alternative
choices are available; consideration is important.
Relevant benefits are additional or incremental revenue generated by selecting a particular course of
action over another; relevant to decision making.
Short run costs Economists define the short run as being the time period when at least one of the
factors of production is completely fixed. For example, for a particular company this might mean that
they have reached full capacity in a warehouse or at a factory site. These short run costs consist

Character Analysis of Blanche DuBois in Tennessee...
Character Analysis of Blanche Through Text and Symbolism in A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams was once quoted as saying Symbols are nothing but the natural speech of
drama...the purest language of plays (Adler 30). This is clearly evident in A Streetcar Named Desire,
one of Williams s many plays. In analyzing the main character of the story, Blanche DuBois, it is
crucial to use both the literal text as well as the symbols of the story to get a complete and thorough
understanding of her.
Before one can understand Blanche s character, one must understand the reason why she moved to
New Orleans and joined her sister, Stella, and brother in law, Stanley. By analyzing the symbolism in
the first scene, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She escaped death in her use of desire. However, she could not escape death for long. She was a
teacher at a high school, and at one point, she had intimacies with a seventeen year old student. The
superintendent, Mr. Graves, found out about this and she was fired from her job. Her reputation was
totally destroyed and she could no longer stay there. Mr. Graves sent her to her next stop on her
symbolic journey a train named Cemeteries . Her final destination was Elysian Fields . The inhabitants
of this place are described in Book six of the Aenead:
They are the souls, answered his [Aeneas ] father Anchises, / Whose destiny it is a second time
To live in the flesh and there by the waters of Lethe / They drink the draught that sets them free from
care
And blots out their memory. (Quirino 61)
This is the place of the living dead. Blanche came to Elysian Fields to forget her horrible past, and to
have a fresh start in life (Quirino, 63). In fact Blanche admits in the fourth scene that she wants to
make myself a new life (Williams 135).
Through a knowledge of the circumstances that brought Blanche to Elysian Fields, it is easy to
understand the motives behind many of Blanche s actions. One such action is that of constant bathing.
This action represents her need to purify herself from her past (Corrigan 53). However, it is important
to note that Blanche s description of her traveling came before she actually settled

The Berlin Wall And The Wall
On November 9,1989 the German rulers finally allowed the Wall to be taken down. The Berlin Wall
was according to Rosenberg a physical division between West Berlin and East Germany in order to
keep East Germans from fleeing to the West (Rosenberg). History always seems to repeat itself
because even in modern times the usage of a wall to keep people from moving in large number is still
viable. Nonetheless, like the Berlin wall and the Great Wall of China before that, walls are just that
walls and unfortunately they are not enough to keep individuals from getting to the other side.
With the upcoming presidential elections in the United States there is a party member in particular
who promises: that if elected will construct a wall separating The United States of America and its
southern neighbor Mexico with a concrete wall. With this in mind, it is easy to write off the wall and
guess at a rough estimate with dollars in mind but what is more important than money is how this wall
would impact the surrounding areas where the wall itself is to be constructed. Not only that but if such
a wall is to be built it will also have an everlasting impact on the local economies near the site.
Although constructing a wall on the American southern border near Texas and Mexico would reduce
the passage of illegal immigrants, the cost of this wall would outweigh the benefits of its erection.
The first of many problems that arise with the construction of this wall is that there are

The Snows of Kilimanjaro Essay
It is my claim that Ernest Hemingway s piece, The Snows of Kilimanjaro is most effective at showing
how trivial life can be as it regards to what people think is needed to be successful in life for three
main reasons. The reasons are that people put too much time into achieving unrealistic goals, people
get too involved in obtaining their goals and do not appreciate what they have, and people have the
wrong idea about success and can not obtain true success with the wrong vision of what it is. Some
people put too much time into achieving their unrealistic goals, and never realize them and then end
up wasting most of their life and lively hood in search of their personal success. Those same people

This work is appealing to this audience because they can identify with the main character Harry and
his feelings of regret and self doubt of his accomplishments and position in life. Only when people get
closer to death do they start to look back on their lives, and question whether they have done all they
wanted or not. Lots of men in their late 30 s to late 40 s also tend to have a mid life crisis where they
wonder what they have done with their life. Theses people can identify with Harry and can be targeted
as the specific audience.
The symbols used through out the story are what make The Snows of Kilimanjaro an appealing piece
of literature. The vultures which descend upon and fly above the camp and the hyena who visits the
camp signify naturally, in the context of the situation, the presence of death. The gangrenous leg of the
dying writer is another symbol, of course, of death. But in the larger context, since Harry is a writer,
they symbolize his moral corruption and artistic decay. Beyond this Harry s wife being a rich woman
symbolizes the very forces which have brought about the destruction of his integrity. She is precisely
identical with the gangrenous leg, and hence with the vultures and hyena. All of these are

Analysis of the Movie Frozen by Dani Colman
Dani Colman talks about many ideas in her article that show how the new movie Frozen does not
show realistic feminist ideals as everyone may think it might. Her article is very opinionated, and
seemingly biased or exaggerated. Instead of embracing how Disney has taken a step in the right
direction with the movie when trying to embrace new societal ways of thinking, she attacks how it
does not affectively show all of values held by feminists; what she fails to overlook, however, is the
idea that the movie was not meant to be a feminist movie, but rather was made to entertain young
children it just included aspects that Disney thought was progressive and compliant to today s society.
Colman does not seem to be validated with her ideas on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She says that her clumsiness factor is not built as something that she, as the protagonist, has to
overcome; she thinks that she made Elsa s coronation just about her since she is vain (Colman, 2014).
She points out scenes in the movie that show Elsa as being unaware, like when she rode into the storm
unprepared, did not think of her limitations, like when she tried climbing the mountain, and provoked
Elsa without thinking of the consequences (Colman, 2014). Her only ambition, according to Colman,
is finding her true love, though she s condescending towards the person that is assumed to fall into that
position, Kristoff, and is belligerent towards the person who it ends up being: her sister, Elsa (Colman,
2014).
In addition to these ideas, she expresses negative ideas about Elsa, Anna s sister. She says that Elsa is
not any better than Anna, and suggests that she may be worse; she says Elsa is self repressing, though
it is not her fault, pathological due to shutting everyone out (even though some people, like Anna, just
want to help), is self blaming, avoidant of issues, frightened, vulnerable, repressed, intelligent
(something positive!), and antisocial (Colman, 2014). She shuts everyone out due to her fears, and
because of that, runs away from her problems instead of confronting them. Most of her actions that
Colman deems as negative are due to her fears, showing how conflicted she is. Colman thinks that
both Elsa and Anna are impulsive,

on the economic costs of climate change policies prior to making mention of the inevitable

If an explanation was given, it omitted the fact that policies are being put into place to prevent the
calamitous effects of global warming. Coverage on the economic costs of climate change adaptation
strategies heavily outweighed writing on the environmental harms that would arise out of non action.
By way of illustration, an article about oil production reads TransCanada Corp. s Keystone XL
pipeline and Enbridge Inc. s Northern Gateway project heading west, have been bogged down by
environmental concerns [...] and the lack of pipelines is a further drag on investment intentions in the
Canadian oil patch (Hussain 2015, April 11). Hussain s article refrains from explaining why
environmentalists are having concerns. Within the news reporting discourse, one would reasonably
expect objective and detailed coverage but in this instance, the author s choice of words flagrantly
drops the plethora of reasons why environmentalists would be concerned with the actions of big oil.
Another headline reads, There may be hope for new pipelines after all (Thomson 2015, October 15).
While these examples may not appear erroneous on the surface, upon close inspection on the phrasing
level, both bogged down and drag carry negative connotations that frame the protection of the
environment as a barrier

Community Corrections And Prisons
The use of community corrections would be beneficial to the United States. Because it will help,
reduce the overcrowding in jails and prisons. With community corrections, offenders will be able to

incarcerated people have committed nonviolent offenses (drugs, burglary, and other). By taking them
out of Jail and place those in community correction programs it will help cut the prison population.
One of major problems that affect the ability of corrections to function as a system is the
overcrowding of jails and prisons in the United States. Leading to increase inmate disobedience and

The Worst Moment Of My Life
The Scariest Moment of My Life I have this fear. It causes my legs to shake. I start to feel dizzy. And I
blab to anyone who is nearby. As thoughts of certain death run through my mind, the world appears a
precious, treasured place. I imagine my own funeral, then shrink back at the implications of where my
thoughts are taking me. I am terrified of deep waters. Of course, it s not really a fear of the water
itself. Rather, it is the feeling I get in the water, the floor of the ocean or pool below me untouchable
and no firm grasp of anything surrounding me. My sense of security is screamingly absent. There are
no lifeguards , not as if they ll ease the fear. I can rely only on my own self assurance that I will live or
lack thereof. The creation of my fear happened many years ago. I somehow found myself upside down
underwater, while trying to have a good time. Most of my family had come along on a week long trip
to Dallas , a suburban, sweltering city in Texas. In the unbearable heat, my mom, aunt, my two cousins
and I went to a large public pool. All around the pool and down the sidewalk a multitude of people
were sitting around enjoying the heat as if they were at the beach sitting in the sand. A few of the

The Causes And Impacts Of Theodore Roosevelt s Foreign Policy
Brendan Crowley Mr Gelpke USH 2 Period 2 19 October 2017 After the untimely death of William
Mckinley, on September 14th 1901, Theodore Roosevelt assumed the presidency. Using his aggressive
Big Stick Diplomacy and his progressive policies like the Square Deal, he ushered The United States
into the 20th century resulting in his spot as one of the top five presidents of all time. Roosevelt s most
important foreign policy was the establishment of the Panama Canal. This was developed during the
Spanish American war as a way for American ships to get from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. After
Roosevelt saw American ships had to go all the way around the tip of South America to get to Cuba,
Roosevelt negotiated with Britain for the support of an American controlled canal through Panama
owned by Colombia. However this canal could only be built with Colombia s agreement. Colombia
stalled because of the terms of agreement and the USA supported a Panamanian revolution resulting in
Panama giving the United States control of the canal for a price of 10 million dollars and annual
payment of 250,000 dollars. Roosevelt also drafted a document called the Roosevelt Corollary which
said the United States would intervene in any Latin American Country that manifested serious
economic problems. This was after Germany and Britain had sent ships to Blockade Venezuela s coast
line after they had a debt they refused to pay. Although Roosevelt didn t want to lose allies in Europe

In this tribe you are to have arranged marriages that are arranged by the parents. Nnaemeka, Okeke s
son had found a girl himself and wanted to be with her. He loves Nene. Nene is a school teacher and a
good christian. When Okeke heard about this he was ashamed and disappointed in his son. His father s
silence was infinitely more menacing than a flood of threatening speech (Achebe 191). This kind of
behavior was against their tribe s belief and Okeke referred to it as Satan s work. Love marriages just
did not work for them. The story eventually got to the little village in the heart of the Ibo country that
Nnaemeka and his young wife were a most happy couple (Achebe 193). The son who went against his
tribe s beliefs and fell in love before marriage without it being arranged, was happy with his wife.
Nnaemeka learned that you could still be happily married without it being arranged. Okeke did not
talk to his son for eight years because of his decision. Later in the story, Okeke learned he has two
grandsons and felt remorse for not being able to see them grow up. In the end, Nnaemeka turned out

Pele Research Paper
Who is the best player in the soccer forever? There are many great player throughout the history of
soccer. However, no one like Pele. Pele has a great history in soccer. His history biggest than any
player in the soccer history whether they are retired or still playing. In my perspective, Pele is the
greatest player of soccer forever for several reasons: from difficult childhood to a great star, he scored
goals more than any player else throughout the history of soccer and he won three FIFA World so, the
only player ever to do this achievement. First, Edson Arantes Do Nascimento Pele was born on
October 23, 1940, in a small town called Tres in the Brazilian state of Minas. His parents were poor.

Experiencing Different Emotions and Struggles in...
Through different types of readings of Shakespeare s Sonnet 146, the reader is able to access the depth
and difference in meaning among the alternate readings. The general reading of Sonnet 146 allows the
reader to experience the inner emotions are meaning behind the text, of the struggle and battle
between the speakers soul and the earthly indulgences he immorally takes advantage of at the expense
of his soul s immortality. However the contextual reading presents are new argument to the sonnet,
where it can be analysed differently to a general reading. In Shakespearean time sonnets were
ultimately love poems, as Sonnet 146 appears to stand out from the rest as the speaker talks of his soul
s immortality and not of love. Although by understanding the context of the time the sonnet was
written, scholars have come to understand, there may have been another meaning behind the sonnet,
one referencing the speakers love for his mistress and how she is the centre of the sinfulness of earth,
the speaker pities his lover as sees her morality and knows he must leave her, in order for his soul to
be made merciful. Through the different readings of the text the reader is able to interpreted and
understand how they present an alternative connotation.
Throughout all Shakespeare s sonnets there is one that stands out from most, Sonnet 146. The speaker
addresses this sonnet to his soul; this presents great level of depth as the speaker expresses his feelings
about how he is overwhelmed

The Importance Of Clean Drinking Water In India
One of the biggest challenges facing the world today is the emphasis on providing clean water to
everyone throughout the world. This is a fairly easy task in wealthier countries with strong central
governments which establish regulations on how waterways are maintained and treated, however in
developing countries like India the task is insurmountable. With India s population soon to surpass
China by 2022 , there is a huge concern in the lack of clean drinking water for many of their citizens
(Riley, 2015). If India s population is going to continue to rise at the rates it is experiencing today, the
government must create more initiatives to alter the poor hygiene practices by its citizens, to ensure
everyone has access to clean drinking water. One of the biggest problems facing India s access to
clean water is the practice of improper hygiene, which is seen from the astronomical amount of people
that presently practice open defecation or someone defecating outside in the open. The practice stems
from early human civilization, but without much emphasis on the problem over the past century, it has
continued to rise with India s rising population. In India, a staggering 522 million of their citizens
practice open defecation (India, n.d.). This is an extreme cause for concern in a country that has such a
dense population due to its population size compared to the countries overall size. What this entails is
that even if the amount of people who practice open defecation

Essay on The Most Common Types of Systems Access Controls
The most common types of systems access controls
Access control requires unique user identification, emergency access procedure, automatic log off, and
encryption and decryption of data. In order to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability of

from accessing the system and/or altering data. They also prevent authorized users from making
unauthorized changes to data. Some common examples are User based, Role based and Context based
access control with the strongest security on Context based access control.

This follows the principle of minimal rights whereby users and computers are configured with the
minimum set of access rights necessary to perform their role.
Inadequately secured wireless communication
Wireless security isn t just a big issue for control systems, but for all uses, mainly because wireless is
becoming so pervasive, says Staggs. It s very easy to plug wireless in almost anywhere. However, you
have to be able to find the signals and know if someone has put in a rogue point.
Before installing wireless, it s important to do a complete assessment to identify the best areas for
wireless use and ensure that leakage out of the plant is minimized. There will be a wireless leakage
when you have transmitters or wireless enabled workers walking around with tablet PCs or handheld
devices. Those devices may be transmitting in an area outside a plant.
Solution can be separation by segmenting the wireless networks from the rest of the control network.
Additionally, it is strongly advisable to secure wireless access methods to include requiring
authentication and enforcing strict access controls for communications leading from the wireless
network into the rest of the control network.

  • 2. Comparing Odysseus s Pride And The Gods Raul G Rodriguez Dr. Cook Humanities February 6, 2015 Odysseus s pride and the Gods The two issues that will be discussed will be whether Odysseus s downfall was himself or the gods. When Odysseus and his men leave to return home after the Trojan War, the ocean currents and wind throw them off course constantly. When they land they find themselves on an island with Cyclops roaming everywhere. Odysseus and his handpicked men head into a cave where he helps himself to the food. After sometime the Cyclops that resides in that cave returns and traps them. Being hungry the Cyclops eats two of the men. Odysseus then devises a plan to escape; he gets the Cyclops drunk on the wine he receive from a priest he saved, next Odysseus says his name is nobody, then he takes a sharpened olive branch and blinds the Cyclops. The Cyclops goes outside and yells nobody is hurting me! so the other Cyclops on the island ignore him. Odysseus and his men escape back to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only after Odysseus angers the Cyclops that is a demigod does he have to pay. Next at the Witch s island Odysseus saves his men and stays with the witch for a year despite his crew s wishes, that creates a shred of distrust between them. Eventually that causes a domino effect after Hades and the monster where Odysseus hides behind his men; when they land on the sun god s island. The men go behind Odysseus s back when he is asleep and kill the flocks that were on that island. From this the Sun god pleads to Zeus for vengeance. Zeus creates a storm that kills his men. • 4. Uniforms in School The standard issue school uniform of khaki, navy and white once exclusive to the private parochial institutions is becoming a common requirement in public schools across the nation. This trend that was first suggested for public schools in 1980 by then D. C. mayor, Marion Barry, to help diminish the social stigma of low income students has grown significantly in both numbers and reasons (Lawrence, 2013). In 2010, it was reported by the National Center for Education Statistics, that nearly 19% of the nation s public schools now require a mandated school uniform (Campbell, n.d.). While there are quite a number of opponents to such a policy in the public schools, the benefits are numerous. Students following a school uniform policy are less likely to focus on clothing as a means for determining status) and may experience less stress from being judged by the type or cost of clothing they wear (Campbell, n.d.; Cascio, n.d.). All too often society is judged and defined by the clothing of an individual from its style to cost to fit. By removing this outward factor as a labeling status, students are placed on a more even playing field leaving competitions for the sports fields rather than the classroom runway. Less classroom completion in fashion allows more time to focus on studies. School uniforms also helps to create a sense of community and belonging, much as a member of a sports team that wears a uniform might feel (Buesing, n.d.). A sense of belonging as a member of a ... • 5. Methods Of An Adult English As A Second Language ( Esl )... Introduction: The purpose of this paper is to explore the methods are used in an Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom. I am interested in what types of activities facilitate students understanding, make students comfortable, and encourage student participation. I chose to concentrate on this aspect of second language (L2) learning because as a future teacher, I believe it is important to be mindful and use activities and interactions that appeal and are beneficial to all students. This study made me more aware of the interactions and activities used in the classroom. In order to narrow down the investigation, the following three research questions were formulated: 1. What methods are used in the classroom? 2. What activities are used in the classroom and what method do they align with? 3. Do students respond to some activities more than others? Theoretical Context: There are many methods that have been formed regarding second language acquisition. According to Brown (2014), the communicative method emphasizes authenticity, interaction, student centered learning, task based activities, and communication for real world, meaningful purposes (369). A main tenant of the communicative method is second language acquisition transpires within a communicative environment. • 6. Pay for Performance Paper The need to improve both the quality and the safety of health care in the United States is well documented. Traditional strategies to stimulate improvement include regulation, measurement of performance and subsequent feedback, and marketplace competition. Despite limited evidence, public reporting of hospital quality data and pay for performance have emerged as two of the most widely advocated strategies for accelerating quality improvement (Lindenauer, 2007). Quality health care is very important to both physicians and patients because in essence everyone wants to be in good health in order to live a long quality life. These payment structures have led to concerns about undersupply of needed services (Virtual Mentor, 2006). The quality of health care is directly affected by the system costs. The cost of health care has always been a major concern in the United States. With managed care systems and pay for performance approaches cost does directly affect the quality. The major questions that surround this issue is are physicians being paid fairly for their services, and are the services deserving of the costs associated with it. These questions may not be fully answered to the preference of those involved with health care. The cost of health care will always be a debatable question but in essence there needs to be some type of commission that can fairly determine cost of health care services so that all parties involved are compensated fairly. A physician takes an oath to provide quality care to their patients no matter the cost but the physician also deserves to be compensated fairly for the services they do provide. According to the AMA, fair and ethical PFP programs are committed to improved patient care as their most important mission. Evidence based quality of care measures, created by physicians across appropriate specialties, is the measures used in the programs (AMA 2005). Principals of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are the social and cultural costs and benefits of an individual (male or female) entering a non traditional sport for their gender/sex (eg women who enter body building, power lifting, boxing; men who enter synchronized swimming or field hockey)? Throughout history it is clear that not only women, but both genders have faced seemingly insurmountable barriers when attempting to break into a sport that is not proper or stereotypical for their gender to participate in. Though as a society we are making strides towards equality in sport, such as the advent of Title IX, it is clear that we still have a long way to go. Though breakthrough policies such as this are moving in the right direction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even organizations that claim to push for equality in sport seem to perpetuate these stereotypes themselves, an example of which is a quote found on the website organized by the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity: CAAWS is in business to encourage girls and women to get out of the bleachers, off the sidelines, and onto the fields and rinks, into the pools, locker rooms and board rooms of Canada . (http://www.caaws.ca/english/index.htm) Though this association does seem to have the right idea in mind, to get women out of the bleachers, off the sidelines , they perpetuate ideas of normative female sport participation by instructing women to go to pools and rinks, implying swimming and ice skating, stereotypical female sports, instead of instructing them to go to boxing rings or basketball courts. The quote above also raises another interesting issue by connecting equality in sport with equality in the workplace. Throughout history, these two ideas seem to run directly parallel to one another, and even reflect the state of the other. As women have continued to become a stronger force in the workplace, they also seem to be breaking through the gender constricting barriers of sport at the same time. This idea reflects the inclination of our society to keep women in roles that are normative not only in dealing with sport, but throughout all other areas of a woman s life as well. In this manner, a good course of action in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Media is enormously powerful and leading and will influence people s opinions on everything. There are plenty of stories in the media that will change the public s perception of science or even make them see a new perception. Sometimes these stories are just written to scare the public into believing a certain thing just so they can sell their stories. This has made me think, are they trying to inform the reader or just trying to sell their story? You only learn what the deadly strain is after you read paragraph 1 so this proves my point. On the 3rd paragraph the Sun states the following the swan had the strain which can be fatal to humans. Instead of just using the swan had the H5N1 strain the Sun chooses to create more of an impact by using the word fatal and implying it to humans. The concert was performed by a group called The Reginald Cyntje Group. The Reginald Cyntje Group was made up of Brian Settles, Herman Burney, Lenny Robinson, Hope Udobi, and Reginald Cyntje. The group performed seven songs including: The Rise of the Protester, Ballad for the Masses, Chant of the Revolt, Descension and Ascension, No Justice No Peace, The Piece of Resistance, and Blues People vs the Deplorables. While I enjoyed all of the songs my favorite was the Dance of the Crooked Heads, which will be the topic of my report. The Dance of the Crooked Heads was performed by Settles playing a tenor saxophone, Burney playing a bass, Robinson playing drums, Udobi playing the piano, and Cyntje playing the trombone. There was not anyone singing or doing vocals. The genre of the song was jazz and the musical style of the composition was instrumental. I believe it is instrumental because it did not contain a voice accompaniment, only instrumental. As stated before the genre is jazz, which can be said has smooth and unrestricted sounds and I think this describes The Dance of the Crooked Heads perfectly. The song also has an element of jazz which is syncopation. Syncopation is when there is a variety of the rhythms of the song and they made a part or all of the song off beat. ... • 10. Queen Gertrude in Shakespeare s Hamlet a Victim not Murderer Gertrude never seems to get in the middle of Hamlet and Claudius disputes, so many tend to assume that she is involved in King Hamlet s murder. Gertrude clearly did now know the plot line of the play before having seen it, therefore she could not have been involved in the making of it earlier in the play. When problems with Ophilia and Hamlet arise, Claudius simply sees this as another opportunity to quiet Hamlet. He encourages the relationship, hoping if Hamlet is seeing Polonius? daughter, he wont speak out about his suspicions of Claudius. Although, when Gertrude gets word of these news, she sees this as a completely different opportunity. She, unlike her new husband, encourages the relationship in hopes that it will cheer up her son and he will return to normal. She says to Ophilia, ?And for your part, Ophelia, I do wish that your good beauties be the happy cause of Hamlet s wildness. So shall I hope your virtues will bring him to his wonted way again, to both your honors? (Shakespeare 3.1.136). Gertrude only thinks of her sons well being. • 11. Creon As A Tragic Hero In Antigone, By Sophocles A tragedy is a relative term for great sadness, but in the times of the Greeks and the Romans, the word tragedy had a slightly different meaning. Aristotle defined a tragic hero as one who has a major character flaw and experiences a tragedy leading to that character s downfall. The character must experience a loss in fortune and suffer beyond what they deserve. In the story Antigone was written by Sophocles, Creon can be defined as a tragic hero more so than Antigone. Creon is the king of Thebes; he is stubborn but loyal. His loyalties lie with his city, and he believes that personal affairs come second to the city of Thebes. After the rebels, atack Thebes Creon enacts a law stating that Polynices, one of the rebels, is forbidden to be buried. Furthermore, he declares that burial of Polynices will be punishable by death. In Ancient Greece a burial determined entrance into the afterlife. Creon reckoned that Polynices was an enemy of the state who did not deserve entrance into the afterlife. However, Polyneices sister, Antigone, wants to bury her brother. Antigone believes that family matters should take priority over conflicts of the state. Additionally, because the gods did not proclaim this law Antigone believes she should not have to follow Creon s law. Creon argues the point of civil law while Antigone places power in moral law. Oftentimes, the devious characters are the ones who show a part of themselves at a certain point in the play and as the story progresses they unveil a different side of them. In most of the Renaissance dramas that were discussed, almost all the plays have at least one character with questionable identity. The concepts of determinism, compatibilism and libertarianism try to help aid in that discussion and help enlighten us on what we believe is the correct ideology. The public wanted the death penalty to be handed down but attorney Clarence Darrow fought and won a life imprisonment verdict (Chaffee 177).The attorney employed a hard determinist argument to show the judge that his clients were victims of circumstance and they were beyond their own control. He even says in the trial that nature is strong and she is pitiless. She works in her own mysterious way, and we are her victims (Chaffee 177). His argument obviously worked as the two young men were not sentenced to death. This one case in my opinion shows how determinism does not make sense to me. I absolutely believe that the environment and the way were brought up has an effect on how we act on the decisions we make. But at the end of the day I also believe that we should be fully help responsible for the actions that we make. These two young men in my opinion should have been punished to the full degree. Bodhidharma, according to tradition, was a man so epic that he removed his own eyelids in order to win a staring contest with a rock wall (from his severed eyelids sprang tealeaves, and thus, the connection between Zen Buddhism and tea drinking). The main teaching of Zen is that of zazen, or seated meditation, and that only through meditation and action, rather than cogitation, can one achieve enlightenment (Elwood, 127 132). The cook will be criticized if the rice is too hard, the soup is too salty, the vegetables have been cut too small, the tea is lukewarm, the faucet is left dripping (Hori, 13 14). Hori goes on to say that if Zen Buddhist masters taught rationally, rather than intuitively, a new cook would be taken aside for a while in the weeks preceding his appointment and shown how to cook properly. However, in not being taught the proper way to prepare meals, and through being forced to constantly be mindful of his actions and the effects they will have on the reactions of his fellow monks, Zen is effectively being practiced. Another thing that Rinzai and Soto have in common is their effort to keep monastic life simple to the point of being almost primitive. This includes the use of wood fires, non flushing toilets, no running water, no heating or air conditioning, and often no electricity. (Hori, 14) By not allowing the use of modern, time saving innovations, Zen Buddhist monks are forced to spend much more time focused on simple, day to day activities, again improving the general state of awareness that Zen Buddhism seems to be all about. Along the same lines, monasteries have strict, often harsh, rules dictating many mundane aspects of everyday life. As we saw in the movie, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The style and cut of women s clothing during the 1920 s changed drastically. Waistlines dropped dramatically while hemlines rose scandalously. Turned down hose were no longer black, but beige. Corsets were no longer popular, but instead the sexless figure was favored. Scarfs were often draped over the shoulders if one could not afford a dead fox neck piece. However, the one thing that distinguished the flapper from anyone else was the bobbed haircut. Although, efforts were made to revive long hair, the bob remained stylish. The fashionable flapper remained throughout the 20s, until the craze faded away with the oncoming 30s. The fads and rages of the flappers left an impression on Americans for years to come. Market data analysis stressed two main facts: i) the promising potential of ultracapacitors and ii) surfacing mature market conditions for conventional NiMH batteries. I decided to cut down R D in that division too early and that caused me to miss my sales targets. As I lost market share in my core business, the volume effect from my decision to lower NiMH prices did not compensate enough to allow that division to remain profitable. Suddenly, I had a very tight R D budget to work with (as it was based on sales projections) and limited cash could be allocated to the improvement of the ultracapacitors business. I also reacted too late to the shift in customers demand for Power Packs products from Power Tools products, which caused late and lower than needed investments in other products features such as self discharge (high priority for both NiMH and ultracapacitors). 3. • 19. Lysistrata, By Euripides And Lysistrata Essay Lysistrata was written in ancient Greece, a time where women s position in society was no greater than a servant. In Lysistrata, Aristophanes depicts Greek women challenging male authority through their own femininity in a comic and light hearted way. Wether or not Aristophanes was trying to challenge male authority or was simply making a joke out of women is unclear, but it is easy to note what ancient Greeks thought of women simply by how they depicted in Lysistrata. Throughout the play the women are frequently presented in a stereotypical manner of inferiority to the men. Even the female protagonist, Lysistrata, describes women as a submissive sexually driven being. In the first scene, Lysistrata castigates the women for not showing interest and commitment to her call to action. She says Women! • 20. Reflection On Conflict Theory In this class, the idea of Conflict Theory was brought up very early on. I really enjoy the concept and find it incredibly useful when considering complex topics. Conflict theory, which was originally a concept in which Karl Marx is largely attributed, theorizes that conflict arises due to limited resources and the competition to secure those resources. The theory says that as long as there is a limit on how much of something there is (and since we all live on a giant ball that has a set amount of every resource, there always will be), then there will be people who fight to have control of it. For me, I find this theory in action everywhere, and I routinely use it as a logical deduction tool to deduce the underlying motivations of those around me. Whenever I see something strange happening around me, the first thing I do is ask myself: Who profits from this? How do they profit? Why would they do that? After that, I ask myself who else would want whatever is in question. For example, if I was asked to find a root cause for the ongoing conflict in the middle east, I would ask who benefits from it. Once I do that, I would probably find that a very large portion of the U.S. economy is derived from the import and export of petroleum, which is highly abundant in the area. In fact, if the U.S. were to lose the oil imported from the middle east, then disastrous wouldn t even come close to describing the economic turmoil that would ensue within the United States. From this, I would undoubtedly conclude that the U.S. ( some other European countries) are guilty of destabilizing the region in order to secure rights over their oil. But this theory does not just apply to global issues. The idea of conflict applies everywhere, from knowing what a possible future employer wants to hear, to understanding how much you are paying at the register when you go grocery shopping. In fact, both of these ideas had a large impact on how I landed my first job. When I was in high school, seniors were required to participate in a 200 hour internship at local businesses in order to graduate. It was during this time that I got an interview at a company known as Social Eyes Marketing as a website designer. In that interview, I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main way that the masks were used was to hide the wearers identity. Usually criminals because they did not want their identity to be known. Servent s used them as well so that they would be recognized as noblemen at events. They were worn mostly at carnivals and fairs. I believe courts should require alternative dispute resolution. Cases tend to be long, costly, and a headache for the state and the plaintiff when trying to reach a decision. I think Mediation would be the best option for court systems before allowing cases to go to trial. Mediation would allow for both parties to reach an agreement themselves through a third party rather than allowing a court to decide for them. This would allow for both parties to come to a common agreement that is usually more desirable than court decisions. Mediation allows for two party s to reach an agreement through a mediator. Her only ambition, according to Colman, is finding her true love, though she s condescending towards the person that is assumed to fall into that position, Kristoff, and is belligerent towards the person who it ends up being: her sister, Elsa (Colman, 2014). In addition to these ideas, she expresses negative ideas about Elsa, Anna s sister. She says that Elsa is not any better than Anna, and suggests that she may be worse; she says Elsa is self repressing, though it is not her fault, pathological due to shutting everyone out (even though some people, like Anna, just want to help), is self blaming, avoidant of issues, frightened, vulnerable, repressed, intelligent (something positive!), and antisocial (Colman, 2014). The Causes And Impacts Of Theodore Roosevelt s Foreign Policy Brendan Crowley Mr Gelpke USH 2 Period 2 19 October 2017 After the untimely death of William Mckinley, on September 14th 1901, Theodore Roosevelt assumed the presidency. Using his aggressive Big Stick Diplomacy and his progressive policies like the Square Deal, he ushered The United States into the 20th century resulting in his spot as one of the top five presidents of all time. Roosevelt s most important foreign policy was the establishment of the Panama Canal. This was developed during the Spanish American war as a way for American ships to get from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. After Roosevelt saw American ships had to go all the way around the tip of South America to get to Cuba, Roosevelt negotiated with Britain for the support of an American controlled canal through Panama owned by Colombia. However this canal could only be built with Colombia s agreement. Colombia stalled because of the terms of agreement and the USA supported a Panamanian revolution resulting in Panama giving the United States control of the canal for a price of 10 million dollars and annual payment of 250,000 dollars. Roosevelt also drafted a document called the Roosevelt Corollary which said the United States would intervene in any Latin American Country that manifested serious economic problems. This is a fairly easy task in wealthier countries with strong central governments which establish regulations on how waterways are maintained and treated, however in developing countries like India the task is insurmountable. With India s population soon to surpass China by 2022 , there is a huge concern in the lack of clean drinking water for many of their citizens (Riley, 2015). If India s population is going to continue to rise at the rates it is experiencing today, the government must create more initiatives to alter the poor hygiene practices by its citizens, to ensure everyone has access to clean drinking water. What this entails is that even if the amount of people who practice open defecation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s very easy to plug wireless in almost anywhere. However, you have to be able to find the signals and know if someone has put in a rogue point. Before installing wireless, it s important to do a complete assessment to identify the best areas for wireless use and ensure that leakage out of the plant is minimized. There will be a wireless leakage when you have transmitters or wireless enabled workers walking around with tablet PCs or handheld devices. Those devices may be transmitting in an area outside a plant. Solution can be separation by segmenting the wireless networks from the rest of the control network.
