In Architecture, the idea of post modernism began as a response to the perceived flatness and failed utopianism of the modern movement. Definitive postmodern architecture rejects the notion of a pure form or perfect architectonic detail, instead evidently drawing from all methods, materials, forms and colors available to architects. Robert Robert Venturi and Charles Moore led the philosophical foundation of Post-Modernism.
Disillusioned with the modernist dogma that the present is always the best, architects and the public they serve rediscovered the value and beauty of the past. They started restoring old buildings, whereas modern architecture is abstract, postmodern architecture is referential.

Expressionism Modernism Sustainable Architecture Rookery Walt Disney Concert ...Dipesh Pradhan
It is a report on Contemporary Architecture, that includes brief in sight of the Expressionism, Modernism, and Sustainable Architecture along with famous architecturally important buildings The Rookery Building and Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Peter Behrens, (born April 14, 1868, Hamburg—died Feb. 27, 1940, Berlin), architect noted for his influential role in the development of modern architecture in Germany.
According to the Deconstructivism style, a building is designed in parts. The architecture seems as if it is done in bits and pieces, in a haphazard manner, without any importance given to logic or architecture norms. A building constructed by deconstructivism style reflects discordant pieces joined together to form unrelated abstract forms. Deconstructivism focuses on changing the conventional rectilinear lines of a normal architectural building into non-rectilinear lines, transforming the external features of the building into distorted shapes and fragmented features.

“Getting” Contemporary Art
It’s ironic that many people say they don’t “get” contemporary art because, unlike Egyptian tomb
painting or Greek sculpture, art made since 1960 reflects our own recent past. It speaks to the
dramatic social, political and technological changes of the last 50 years, and it questions many of
society’s values and assumptions—a tendency of postmodernism, a concept sometimes used to
describe contemporary art. What makes today’s art especially challenging is that, like the world
around us, it has become more diverse and cannot be easily defined through a list of visual
characteristics, artistic themes or cultural concerns.
Minimalism and Pop Art paved the way for later artists to explore questions about the conceptual
nature of art, its form, its production, and its ability to communicate in different ways. In the late
1960s and 1970s, these ideas led to a “dematerialization of art,” when artists turned away from
painting and sculpture to experiment with new formats including photography, film and video,
performance art, large-scale installations and earth works. Although some critics of the time
foretold “the death of painting,” art today encompasses a broad range of traditional and
experimental media, including works that rely on Internet technology and other scientific
innovations.

Introduction to Art Chapter 31: Postmodernity and Global Cultures 449
Contemporary artists continue to use a varied vocabulary of abstract and representational forms
to convey their ideas. It is important to remember that the art of our time did not develop in a
vacuum; rather, it reflects the social and political concerns of its cultural context. For example,
artists like Judy Chicago, who were inspired by the feminist movement of the early 1970s,
embraced imagery and art forms that had historical connections to women.
In the 1980s, artists appropriated the style and methods of mass media advertising to investigate
issues of cultural authority and identity politics. More recently, artists like Maya Lin, who
designed the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., and Richard Serra, who was
loosely associated with Minimalism in the 1960s, have adapted characteristics of Minimalist art
to create new abstract sculptures that encourage more personal interaction and emotional
response among viewers.
These shifting strategies to engage the viewer show how contemporary art’s significance exists
beyond the object itself. Its meaning develops from cultural discourse, interpretation and a range
of individual understandings, in addition to the formal and conceptual problems that first
motivated the artist ...
A B S T R A C T
Modernity has significantly influenced the branches of human knowledge; architecture has a substantial share in this effect. Modern architecture, in turn, was not a negative recipient to impact, but it was a positive catalyst for decades. Moreover, it did not limit to certain geographic boundaries, but it has spread all over the world and Cyprus was not an exception. Due to most of the Cypriot pioneer architects were studied in Europe; Cyprus was the incubator that has many architectural distinctive pieces of evidence of modern architecture. Perhaps the expert reader of the modern architectural discourse of Cyprus could distinguish numerous aesthetic features in Cyprus Buildings especially the private residences and their appearance is credited back to one of the pioneers of modern architecture; Le Corbusier. The research paper is an attempt to determine the influence of the principles that Le Corbusier claimed as keystones of modern architecture in early twenty century and how impressed on the emergence of aesthetic values of the modern architecture of Cyprus as well. The paper takes two works of Neoptolemos Michaelides, as case study (Neoptolemos Michaelides is considered the father of Cyprus modern architecture). The first case study is his and wife private residence, which considers the icon of the modern residential architecture of Cyprus and the other is the first residential project designed by him Theotodos Kanthos residence.

Structuralism is a mode of thinking .pptxseyefeselasse
Structuralism is a mode of thinking and a method of analysis practiced in 20th-centurysocial sciences and humanities. Methodologically, it analyses large-scale systems by examining the relations and functions of the smallest constituent elements of such systems, which range from human languages and cultural practices to folktales and literary texts.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Week 13 Contemporary Art (Deconstructivism)
1. Contemporary Art (Deconstructivism)
Contemporary Art (Deconstructivism)
It is a development of postmodern architecture that began in the late 1980s. Deconstructivism was influenced by the
theory of “Deconstruction” which is a form of semiotic analysis. The end-product of visual appearance of buildings that
exhibit deconstructivist “styles” is characterized by unpredictability and controlled chaos.
Deconstructivism became popular through a competition: Parc de la Villette architectural design competition. 1988
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) exhibition Deconstructivist Architecture, curated by Mark Wigley and Philip Johnson,
crystallized the movement and brought fame and notoriety to its key practitioners. The New York exhibition featured works
by Frank Gehry, Daniel Libeskind, Rem Koolhaas, Peter Eisenman, Zaha Hadid, Coop Himmelblau, and Bernard Tschumi.
Contemporary Art
Minimalism and cubism have had an influence on deconstructivism. Analytical cubism had a sure
effect as forms and content are dissected and viewed from different perspectives
simultaneously. A synchronicity of disjoined space is evident in many works of Frank Gehry and
Bernard Tschumi. Deconstrucivism mirrors varieties of expressionism, neo-expressionism, and
abstract expressionism as well. Several artists in the 1980s and 1990s contributed work that
influenced or took part in deconstructivism. Maya Lin and Rachel Whiteread are two examples.
Lin’s 1982 project for Vietnam Veterans Memorial with its sense of fragmentation and emphasis

Constructivism and Russian Futurism
Russian Constructivist and Futurist movements of the early 20th-century was another major inspiration in deconstructivist
architecture. Both deconstructivism and Constructivism has been concerned with the tectonics of making an abstract
assemblage. Both were concerned with the radical simplicity of geometric forms as the primary artistic content, expressed
in graphics, sculpture and architecture.
