Lack Of Reason In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
Lack of Reason and Increasing Savagery
Human nature is complex, filled with unpredictability and flaws. As seen in Lord of the Flies, by
William Golding, the darker side of humanity is revealed in times of survival and conflict. Throughout
the novel, the boys on the island become increasingly barbaric and violent when they are faced with
dire situations. Through the escalating tension surrounding the symbolic nature of Piggy s glasses and
its representation of the boys rationality, William Golding conveys the message that lack of reason
brings out the innate savage side of human nature.
Piggy s glasses are symbolic of the boys humane side and their reason. At the start of the novel, the
boys on the island seem to be pleasant people and they understand the importance of starting a signal
fire to be rescued. The boys are rational and are fighting for survival. The glasses are still in tact; they
are going to be used to help the boys create a signal fire. Ralph speaks to the boys, exclaiming His
specs use them as burning glasses! (Golding 40), showing that they want to return to society because
they are using their resources at hand to start a fire and be rescued. They still have reason due to the
fact they try to send a signal for rescue and would rather be rescued than accept a new life on the
island. The glasses are in one piece, symbolizing their rationality is present and held together at the
beginning of their journey. The low tension is among the boys and who

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Spanish Civil War
The twentieth century saw more proxy wars than any time in human history; great powers would flex
their martial muscles in smaller theatres of conflict in order to test their own strengths and weaknesses
without risking their international reputation as an aggressive nation. The Spanish Civil War served as
a significant proxy for the totalitarian European powers in the interwar period; Fascist Italy and Nazi
Germany would support the right wing nationalists while the Soviet Union and various International
Brigades would back the alliance of the Republican government and Anarcho communist
organizations. Spain would serve as a testing ground for the armed forces of the European totalitarian
states in which major military and ideological support would be given to the Spanish belligerents. In
spite of initial setbacks in the initial military coup, Francisco Franco would eventually crush the
Republican Anarchist opposition and maintain authoritarian control of Spain for decades. His success
was due in large part to the interests of Hitler and Mussolini in creating a friendly state in the Iberian
Peninsula. Through contributions of manpower, military advisors and materiel from the Nazis and
Fascists, Nationalist Spain was able to take advantage of the less organized and squabbling
Republican government forces. La Guerra Civil was the culmination of a century of turmoil in Spain.
The Spanish monarchy would be abolished in 18XX, with its Savoyard King famously declaring the

The Problems Of American Schools Essay
Andrew R. Deras Dr. Jide Osikomaiya English 100 8 September 2016 The Most Compelling Problems
In American Schools As we delve back into a new year for students and teachers alike returning to
school to continue with the daily life of academics and learning, we all must be understanding of what
exactly we are sending our peers and children back to. It should be no surprise to most of us that
throughout the years we have seen countless upon countless examples from the news and through
others, that our school system is flawed in some way, shape or form. It is no longer a coincidence that
our students are only achieving 36th from the top in all total curriculum (Arnett). This is also evident
to anyone who may happen to own a T.V. and has been a viewer to these numerous articles describing
these horrible issues we have within schools firsthand (ABC News). Not only that, but schooling can
also be further compromised by politics and law related issues (Ravitch). What my goal for the essay I
am submitting to you is; to give my opinions on the current situation of public schooling in America,
discuss the issues, and back my points I will be presenting, with concrete evidence I have uncovered
in my research. I would like to make it clear that my stance on the current situation is that there is not
only a singular problem with public education, but a number of issues that inhibit students to learn
properly and function as productive members of society. An excellent place to start would

The History Of Wine Production
The history of wine production traces back thousands of years, with the earliest evidence of a wine
like drink located in China circa and estimated to be of at 7000 BC. Wine was the center of the
agricultural culture of many civilizations like the Romans, the Phoenicians and the Greeks, who
considered wine a divine drink of the gods. Wine remains until today one of the largest components of
the agricultural production in the Western civilization (Appendix 1).
Grapevine is one of the most economically and socially important crops around the globe. Grapes are
used for the production of raising, grape juice, jams and vinegar, but the main end product is wine. It
was estimated in 2005 that 65.7% of the production of grapes is being used ... Show more content on

The past few years however, groups have been trying to address the cultivation techniques from
another perspective; by genetically modifying grapevines.
Realizing the global significance of wine, scientists specializing in plant biology, viticulture and
enology from the major wine producing areas (USA, Australia, France, Canada, Chile, Italy, Germany,
Spain and South Africa) launched the International Grape Genome Program (IGGP) in the beginning
of the century. It involves a cooperative genome sequence analysis of the species Vitis Vinifera, one of
the most common grapevine species.
The goal of the IGGP is to provide insights into the molecular biology of the species. Using genetic
tools, scientists are attempting to modify specific parts of the Vitis genome to produce higher quality
wine, disease resistant crops and provide a database for producers to plant the right species with
respect to the specific environment of their production site. According to data collected in 2007, half
of the grape genome has been mapped, which includes more than 22800 nucleotide sequences and the
project is expected to grow even more the next years. The data has been placed in the public databases
of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).

Taking a Look at Sarcoidosis Essay
Sarcoidosis is a disease caused by inflammation happens in the lymph nodes, lungs liver, eyes, skin,
and other tissues. The disease can affect almost every organ inside or out. Although the most common
form of it is in pulmonary sarcoidosis, found in lungs, about 90 percent of cases of in the lungs. When
a person gets this disease tiny clumps, granulomas form in the affect organs in the body. Granulomas
are cluster of immune cells. When are too many granulomas form in an organ it affects how the organ
works. Doctors think people with sarcoidosis have genes that make it easier for them to get the
disease. Things that might trigger it are infections, bacteria, viruses, dust, or chemicals. Scientists also
believe that sarcoidosis is immune ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sarcoidosis in the bones, joints, and muscles cause muscle weakness, arthritis in ankle, knees, elbows,
wrists, hand and feet. About one fourth of cases have the disease on their eyes, the signs and
symptoms are soreness, burning, itching, red eyes, sensitivity to light, dryness, and seeing black spots.
Sarcoidosis is one of the more harder disease to diagnose. This is because the signs and symptoms
sarcoidosis can mimic others diseases. Most of the time doctors find this disease by a regular chest x
ray show that something is wrong. To accurately diagnose this disease will provide with physical
exam, pulmonary function tests, measure how well your lungs are working/ how you re breathing, x
ray of lungs and chest, look for enlarge lymph nodes and glands or scar tissue in the lungs, even a
biopsy of inflamed area, CT scan, lung gallium scan, imaging of the brain and liver, and
echocardiogram of the heart.
Many sarcoidosis patients do not need treatment. Sarcoidosis most of the time heals itself. The disease
tend to spontaneously appear and disappear. When treatment is need is when sarcoidosis is in the lungs
and other important organs, the goal is to keep the organs functionally normality. Most common
antibiotic prednisone, which is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation the affected areas in the

The Effectiveness Of Police Officers
Ill natured reaction from the populace regarding the effectiveness of police officers has and will
continue to be an issue in our society. The constant change in public opinion, morals, finances,
socially acceptable behaviors, and cultural diversity limits the potential for implementation of a
concrete model of law enforcement policy and procedure. In order to maintain the proper balance
between law enforcement operations and the changing social dynamic it is imperative to measure the
needs of the populace in relation to the change. A proper model would include procedural changes
based on the data collected from a diverse faction of the target population; using both qualitative and
quantitative collection measures to accurately measure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally by providing student opinion in the data the potential to produce a sustainable model
increases based on the progressive perspective offered. Prophesying that the community will place
high levels of importance with public safety and community predicament, it can be derived that social
issues are the center of cynicism aimed at law enforcement officers and their respective departmental
policies and procedures. Introduction Various aspects of society are impacted when strain is present
between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve; a breakdown in system policy and
procedure propels officers to the forefront of negative opinion relative to community relations. It
becomes apparent that social discord is unbounded when the justice system fails to recognize
discrepancies in the operations at a variety of levels. In order to obtain a solid platform for
reconnecting this community and the officers serving within, it is imperative that respondent
information is used to benefit both community needs and public safety respectively. In order to
facilitate the necessary changes a survey would be provided to the members of the community and the
officers within the jurisdiction. The random selection of survey recipients would be identified by
gender, residence, occupation, and age comprising the generalized variables associated with our
survey distribution. The

Psalm 146
Psalm 146, according to many Old Testament scholars, is thought to have been written sometime
between Judah s return from exile in 538 B.C.... [and] the time of Ezra and Nehemiah in the middle of
the fifth century B.C. One reason that scholars think that Psalm 146 was composed at a later date is
because of its use of Aramaisms in verses four (i.e. estonotayw or their plans ) and five (i.e. sibro or
whose hope ), as well as its use of the late Hebrew word zoqep (i.e. lifts up ) in verse eight. The
biblical scholar John Kselman also points out that Psalm 146 is a collection of partial quotations and
[it has] echoes of other biblical poems... [, which clearly denotes an] anthological style, [and] this

Pay Gap Among Women
The wicked problem of the gender wage gap s presence in the United States workforce is highly
debated. Because the issue is often intangible and so complex in nature, the causes of the wage gap are
often difficult to pinpoint and wholly address. In nearly almost every occupation women earn less than
their male counterparts. Over their lifetimes men will be paid more than women (Institute for Women
s Policy Research, 2017). There are various contributions to income gap seen between women and
men these include: discrimination in payment, hiring, or promotions. Furthermore, there are other
factors that must be considered in explaining the wage gap between women and men. Other conditions

consequences for women. Additionally, if the income disparities continue, it could allow for another
generation of women affected. Another aspect that makes gender wage gap a wicked problem is that
there is debate whether this issue exists in American society. Moreover, there are long lasting
impressions of what society thinks is normal and common practice. If policymakers and government
are not willing to confront the problem, society will continue to deny the problem. Furthermore,
obstinate inequality in income has significant economic consequences that extend to other issues that
are often disproportionately affect women, such as higher poverty rates among women, retirement,
social security, and pension income insecurity (Rittel Webber,

Honor Based Violence And Domestic Violence
Honor based violence and domestic violence are two common forms of violence that exist in our
world today, and they have for many years (Devaney, 2014; Hague, Gill, Begikhani, 2013; Olwan,
2013). Honor based violence covers a wide variety of violent acts performed by a male relative that
are done in order to preserve family honor (Eshareturi, Lyle, Morgan, 2014), and this type of violence
is associated most often with Middle Eastern nations (Belfrage, Strand, Ekman, Hasselborg, 2012;
Olwan, 2013; Standish, 2014). Domestic violence is an umbrella term for a variety of actions such as
rape, as well as assaults of both the physical and verbal varieties (Policastro, Payne, 2013). While the
rationale and execution of each of these types of violence varies (Chesler, 2010; Eshareturi et al.,
2014), there are underlying similarities that exist among both.
In both instances of honor based violence and domestic violence, victims can be seen as losing power
and control within their own lives, which can be noted in the ways that one can lose their honor,
including: conforming too much to Western cultures, having relationships with people outside of your
own culture, or leaving a man who treats you as an object (Chester, 2010; Eshareturi et al., 2014;
Standish, 2014). Women who are victims of honor based violence lose the opportunity to live their
lives freely due to honor disrupting behaviors (Chester, 2010; Eshareturi et al., 2014; Standish, 2014).

The True Hero Of The Iliad

Hector The true hero of The Iliad
Throughout human history, mankind has venerated heroes because they possess the ideals that people
strive to achieve themselves. The appearance and importance of heroes in The Iliad form a major part
of what makes it such a celebrated tale. The concept of heroism, however, for the ancient Greeks and
modern society is quite different. The Greeks viewed heroes as humans usually descended from the
gods and in possession of superhuman strength and an aptitude for battle . Achilles clearly fits the
above definition and therefore it comes as no surprise that he has historically been viewed as the main
hero of the epic. However, the modern day definition of heroism, more than just strength and prowess
in battle, encompasses the idea of a moral responsibility: defending one s people from harm and
sacrificing one s own desires or life for the sake of others. Hector proves to be a great warrior, referred
to as man killing Hector by the Achaeans, and therefore can be seen as a hero by the Greek
perspective. However that is not the defining characteristic of the Trojan Prince. His character
revolves around a sense of moral responsibility towards his people, his culture and his family, and
using his power to defend them, sacrificing his own life in the process. The goal of this paper is to
prove that Hector, not Achilles, is the true hero of The Iliad.
Early on in the tale we

nothing you can do. Congratulations, you are now in the 1.3 million that also contributed to this
statistic. The college dropout rate varies based upon a wide variety of problems college students
encounter. Now your reasons for dropping out? There could be many, some of which you couldn t
control. However, there are some that directly contribute to the dropout rate; that you could have. We
ll be looking at 13 pieces of evidence that contribute to the dropout rate. Sometimes ethnicities have
lower completion rates than others, Asian/Pacific Islanders have the highest rate and American
Indian/Alaskan natives the lowest 66% and 40% (Pleskac). So you cannot choose your ethnic
background, but that is no reason to not go to college or get a degree. About 40% of black and
Hispanic students had a family crisis just within their sophomore year of college. That was almost 6%
more than white and virtually 20% more than Asian students (Harris). Those things you cannot control
and it is important that you keep the right mindset during hard times, so it does not interfere with
studies. Coming from a different ethnic background they are more ..likely to come from lower
socioeconomic backgrounds, which makes them vulnerable to family crises ..which can be difficult

The Communist Vietnamese Leader Ho Chi Minh and the...
Ho Chi Minh Ho Chi Minh was a Communist, who had announced Vietnam independent. He was a
Marxist and believed in national Communism . Throughout the war with the French, Ho Chi Minh
took refuge in northern Vietnam and settled there with his followers. He founded the Indochina
Communist Party and the Viet Minh. North Vietnam was a deprived area and was cut off from the
agricultural profit of South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was forced to ask assistance from main Communist
allies, the Soviet Union and China. Both aided North Vietnam before and during the war. (Dong Si
Nguyen, Duong xuyen Truong son: hoi uc. Hanoi: Nha Xuat Ban Quan Doi Nhan Dan, 1999). Ho Chi
Minh declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. This had been a
tremendously significant event in world history perhaps the most important event since the 1917
October Revolution in Russia. It marked the first occasion in human history in which a radical
national movement under Communist leadership had succeeded in overthrowing the influence of a
colonial state and establishing and maintaining its own new, independent form of social and political
system. However, Ho s type of communism was markedly different than that of Marxist ideology that
had been the metaphorical icon of the October Revolution. alike to Jose Antonio s fascist movement,
the hierarchical communist party (later renamed the Vietminh) conformed intimately to the ideas of
the person at its head, but unlike Antonio s movement, did not

Horror Argument For Horror Movies
Horror Genre Argument
One in four college students in a recent study said they experience lingering effects of a frightful
movie or TV experience from childhood. (Bernie DeGroat) Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by
the belief the someone or something is dangerous causing pain, or threats. It is not appropriate for
middle schoolers to read classic horror stories like The Tell Tale Heart , because they can cause them
anxiety and it can make them aggressive after watching scary movies.
Horror movies can cause middle schoolers anxiety because horror movies have different components
not appropriate for children. This fear and anxiety of horror movies can cause pain or threats. This
means that even after the movie is done, middle schoolers can feel anxious and uneasy because they
saw violence and other things in the movie that can happen in the real world. In the text The Tell Tale
Heart the narrator states I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, thus riding myself of the
eye forever . This means that the narrator has decided to take the life of the old man because of his
eye. Middle Schoolers might interpret this as okay to kill a man because of his eye.
There are many different types of horror. These types of horror can cause aggression. Aggression is
hostile or violent behavior or attitudes toward another. This happens because of the violence they
experience in horror films. In the online text Scary movies can have lasting effects on children and
teens,

Popular Mechanics Raymond Carver Summary
1. What is the title of the text and what is the text about? Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver is a
story that deals with an obvious dispute between a couple that is divorcing, or a least separating. The
text deals with an unfortunate fight that seems to also involve the couples child, which is an infant. 2.
What is the author s view? How do I know? It is difficult to discern what views the author chooses to
express in this story, that is a dispute that goes awry. With the use of short punchy sentences as well as
cursing and other aggressive tones, the author seems to have and understanding of what a horrid fight
may be like. The personal beliefs of this author is difficult to figure out, as little evidence is given to
the reader. The author clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. What is the evidence presented by the author to support ideas? The idea of separation and
aggression can be seen in themes highlighted in the story. Specifically with references to snow in the
beginning of the story, the idea of purity and innocence being lost is mentioned as evidences by the
dirtying of the snow. The idea of anger is rampant, and can be seen especially with the woman who is
angered as she is seen doing the most swearing, whereas the male simply moves forward and seems to
not want to discuss problems any longer. 4. Is the evidence valid? How do I know? The evidence of
the dirtying of snow is valid, and that is known as it sets the tone for the rest of the story and its
conflict (Carver R). The idea of darkness and bitterness is continued. 5. Is the evidence relevant? How
do I know? The evidence is extremely relevant, as it allows to set an appropriate tone in the story. The
distance, disappointment and anger that is seen between the couple is so evident that it acts as the
main drive of the story. Without the indicator of anger, the story would lack appropriate tone, making
the evidence important as well as relevant. 6. Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What

THE MUSIC INDUSTRY GLOBALIZING IN MANY WAYS
The music industry is in a time of growth at this very moment. The environment for its growth has
been increasing rapidly on many geographical boundaries and has been established through
information technology and Internet. In this paper I will analyze how the music industry not only has
been affected by Globalization as an economic institution but also that it has become a worldwide
globalized commodity. First, I will begin by analyzing how the music industry, though its
consumption is not a necessity, it is affected by large economic factors and has become a large Music

Euthyphro
Main question of the Dialogue
The main question of this dialogue is the definition of the word holy or piety. Euthyphro brags that he
is more knowledgeable than his father on matters relating to religion. In this case, Socrates suggests to
Euthyphro to define that term. The first definition fails to satisfy Socrates because of its limitation in
application. Apparently, Socrates perceives this definition as an example rather than a definition.
Subsequent arguments and line of questioning lead to five sets of definitions that are refined to find
the general definition. Socrates expects that the acceptable general definition of the question will act
as a reference point in his defense.
Problems with Euthyphro s initial definition
According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the argument would imply that the justification is both holy and unholy, which is
rationally impractical.
What Socrates uses to Combat Euthyphro s Conceptions of holiness
At the core of Socrates argument is the need to break down the definition of holiness into smaller
coherent characteristics. Socrates uses a series of question that are consistent with Euthyphro s
argument to ensure that he [Euthyphro] offers a consistent flow of definitions of the word holy.
Euthyphro accepts these ideas because he offers different definitions that are in line with the clarified
ideations. Socrates uses basic philosophical question What is holy? , which leads to a myriad of
definitions with different characteristics. Euthyphro sums up all these characteristics in the final
definition.
Euthyphro s problem is that he is trying to show his prowess among social and philosophical elite by
proving his father to be impious. His ego coupled with his father s flattery obscures Euthyphro from
developing concrete definitions.
Deeper (Philosophical) Point of Justice
Socrates point on justice is that everything that is termed just ought to be entirely holy. On the other
hand, not everything that is deemed holy is just. However, the term just is used interchangeably with
the term morally good. I think Socrates point is to find enough proof to support any premise beyond
reasonable doubt.

the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale to help assess individuals self esteem. According to the book
Essentials of Statistics of Behavioral Science by authors Frederick J. Gravetter and Larry B. Wallnau
(2014) they define reliability as how consistent a study or measuring device is. A measurement is said
to be reliable or consistent if the measurement can produce similar results if used again in similar

Without reliability and validity it would be very difficult to decide which research should be trusted
and which should be completely disregarded. The main goal of this report was to assess reliability and
validity through the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale where participants rated their level of self esteem
from 1 7. A 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7 indicating that they strongly agree with that
trait. Along with this we used Cronbachs alpha to indicate the consistency within the scale. Method
Participants at Texas A M University (N=33) were asked to report their age, which ranged from 19 to
28years of age and their gender. Twenty five of the participants were female while the remaining eight
were males. The average age of participants that was frequently reported was 20 years (SD=1.97). A
total of 10 items were recorded (Appendix A, Appendix B, Appendix C, Appendix D, Appendix E,
Appendix F, Appendix G, Appendix H, Appendix I, Appendix J). Each student was asked to write
which trait they felt related to how they felt about themselves. For this section we used Rosenberg Self
Esteem Scale, where a 7 point Likert scale was used, a 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7
indicating that they strongly agree with that trait. Throughout this report there were 5 out of the 10
traits that were reverse coded which refers to flipping the category values (i.e. 1 becomes 7, 2
becomes 6, 3 becomes 5.,etc.).

Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society
1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the
reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how it
needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety of
cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought process,
but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but society did not
create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is our everyday reality.
2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world building are externalization,
objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting with society being an essential
step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape society by developing new
things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language. Internalization is man using the structures
of the objective world to help form his own thoughts and opinions. These all maintain a stable society
with a similar reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stepfamilies And Its Effects On Children Research Paper
Introduction The right definition of a stepfamily is hard to describe but through history stepfamilies
are defined as two partners getting married to form a family with children that they had from previous
relationships. Today facts show that one third of all American families belong to one of the many
categories of stepfamilies. This research paper will focus on the controversy having stepparents. Sone
psychologists argue that it is not healthy for a child to be raised by just one parent which puts a lot of
responsibility on only one of the parents and others argue that the burden of raising a child who is not
yours as a stepparent is heavier than a child that grows with just one single parent. Literature review
Statistics on stepfamilies are staggering; the majority of families have shifted from the original
biologically bonded mother, father and child. We are now a nation in which the majority of families
take a multitude of forms: divorced with children; the children reside with one parent and visit the
other. Most are dating or looking for new partners, remarried, re coupled, living together, with his and
/or her children; He/she is in the role of stepparent. Numbers show that 6,200 couples get married

It all depends on how the biological parent and the new parent will be involved with the children. If
the phase of connecting and bonding working together to be a strong family fails this kind of parenting
can leave a scar in the children that will later be transmitted to the next generation and a continuous
transmission of an unhealthy family relationships. I lost my father seven years ago and since then I
have had already three stepfathers and none of them cared about us as children. We never went
through the bonding stage and our family never been the same since

Electronic Voting Is Not Fair
Electronics always fail, no matter what, I think that the Untited States should stop using electronic
voting because its not really fair and in some ways you get cheated out. In 2013, a national magazine
ran an articile about a man who explained how, with basic computer knowledge and tools, was able to
tamper with votes on EVMs. Life is about being fair and I think everyone should be treated equal, the
time tested method of paper ballots does just that and is the best way to go in my opinion becuase it
works accurately and cannot be tampered with in any way. While electronic voting is often a more
simple proccess and has made voting a lot easier for voters with age or disabilty and 97% of people

12 Angry Jurors, The Raven, Of Mice And Men
Unlike learning Spanish or German in school, English classes are not teaching how to speak English,
as much as it is perfecting the use of the language. English classes are commonly known as places to
read novels, poems, essays, and novellas; it is also a setting to learn the mechanics of the English
language and how to expand your vocabulary. English classes I have taken in the past have expanded
my knowledge on the English language. Ever since elementary school, teachers would have required
reading assignments, both in class and assigned for homework. The literature genres would range
from nonfiction all the way to plays. Some of the examples I was instructed to read were 12 Angry

The Old Testament
The Old Testament is one of the few religious books that over the centuries has not changed and been
a central tool to the Christian. But what is it about? What are the fundamental teachings this amazing
story explains. Well like any good story it is about unlikely heroes, kings, seers, nations rising up and
falling. But though all the different turns it makes there is one key theme that can be seen throughout.
Notably, it is that despite our many sins God s desires a personal relationship with his people.
So how did it all begin? Well as it reads God created the heavens and the earth. He created every
living thing that is in the universe and he created man, male and female did he create them. And he
placed Adam and Eve in a garden and gave them everything that they needed only stimulating that
they could not eat from the tree in the center of the garden, the tree of good and evil. Unfortunately,
they were tempted and gave into there human desires. This is how sin came into the world making
everything chaotic and apart from what it was created to be. Now Adam and Eve had numerous
descendants but many were evil and there was only one who was righteous in the sight of the Lord,
Noah. Hence, God gave directions to Noah concerning the construction of a large boat, otherwise
known as an Ark. Into this craft would go Noah and his family and two of every animal which moved
upon the face of the earth to escape the great flood that would sweep across the earth. The storm lasted

Unprotected Sex Leads to an Increase in Pregnancy, Social...
Unprotected sex is becoming increasingly common today which brings an increase in the risks of the
effects; including pregnancy, social discrimination, and various diseases. The majority of unprotected
sex is acted upon within teenagers. However, adults act upon this feat as well. While performing
sexual proceedings, you use a condom to prevent the corrupting effects due to unprotected sex from
happening to you. In the absence of using a condom, the effects are amplified. Most people are aware
of the consequences of unprotected sex, although, the choice of using a condom to protect you during

Some teens that become pregnant are still in high school or just beginning a college education.
Pregnancy is a large responsibility that can intermittently be disregarded. Thus, you don t have a
choice but to be prepared for a child and the responsibility that comes with pregnancy. Not only do
you have to help nurture a child and support them, it costs you a vast amount of money as well. As a
teenager and still in school, having enough money to sustain you and a child on your own is very
intricate. As a result, trying to finish school and accomplish future career goals is difficult with less
money and a child to care for. Social discrimination occurs as a result of unprotected sex and as a
result of pregnancy. Even considering most teenagers have unprotected sex, girls especially, are
discriminated against. Generally they are discriminated against by other girls who themselves have
unprotected sex too. You become known as promiscuous even though other girls are just as guilty.
While teenagers that are pregnant are around other students their age that are not pregnant, it
sometimes creates a social discrimination against them as well. Even considering that the majority of
teens do have unprotected sex, there is still a strong and immediate discrimination again teens that are

Coxswain Leadership Qualities
Come on, you can do it! You re not trying hard enough, pull harder! These are the words of a born
leader, or so I thought.
At age ten, I signed up for my first rowing camp ready to step in a boat and row. Since I am the
youngest in my family, I was always looked down upon as the baby . I was looking for an opportunity
to be seen as a leader on the team. Given my height deficit, currently standing at a massive five feet
and one inch, my coach decided I fit the criteria to be a coxswain. Finally I would get the opportunity
to be in control. I raced for the first time when I was twelve years old, while disappointed with my
boat s loss, I remember the pride I felt for cheering on my boat and correcting all the girls mistakes.
After a couple of seasons elapsed, I became frustrated, I was positive my talent as a coxswain wasn t
being appreciated on the girls team. I thought my trouble surely had to do with the team and not me
that I wasn t finding success as a leader, so I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thankfully I had a coach who helped me recognize my problems, and began to teach me qualities that
were more important than being able to steer straight and what technical and motivational calls to
make during a race or practice. I soon came to find out that the team s success actually had everything
to do with me, not as a boss but as a captain. He taught me the most important lessons I have learned
in my life, what it really means to be a leader. He showed me how to sharpen my skills of
accountability, how to learn from my mistakes, and how to gain the trust and respect of others. Eager
to learn how to attain these qualities, I went to the boathouse every day where I endured long practices
focusing solely on how to improve myself, and stayed after practice and met with my coach to discuss
what it takes to be a varsity coxswain. Having these lessons, I found myself becoming more

The One Of The World s Oldest Instruments
The Didgeridoo is considered to be one of the world s oldest instruments. It is thought to have
originated in Northern Australia and researchers think it may have been in use for 40,000 years. There
are carvings on cave walls that depict the didgeridoo in use from the Kakadu people dating back about
1,000 years. (The Didjeridu: From Arnhem Land to the Internet) The first Didgeridoos were made of
eucalyptus trees limbs or Bamboo and that were hollowed out by termites. (McMahon) Aborigine
people living in Northern Australia would clean them out using sticks and cut them to an ideal length.
After cleaning the limbs or bamboo out, hot coals are used to kill any insects. Most didgeridoos range
from three to ten feet long. Length usually plays a role in pitch; if it is longer it has a lower tone and
shorter instruments have a higher pitch. Didgeridoos are usually conical in shape. The Didgeridoo is a
wind instrument or aerophone. It is called this because it uses air to vibrate and create sound within an
instrument. (Hornbostel and Sachs) The player blows air into the smaller end or mouthpiece and often
times people use beeswax to help create a seal with the lips and the instrument. Air pushed through the
lips help the lips to vibrate and create the sound. Today modern didgeridoo s can be made from a
variety of materials. Some are made of glass, metal, cactus or almost any material that can be
hollowed out into a tube.
Because of the irregular shape of the natural instrument

of interaction would be Environment. I narrowed it down to two topics which were : Palm Oil
Destruction and China Pollution. I already knew quite a lot about both of the topics, but I decided to
go with a topic that affects us and the world. Therefore, I chose Palm Oil Destruction which affects us
in many ways. I will make a video about an environmental issue and post it on Youtube, to gain
awareness and to learn more about this topic, those are my goals. Palm is one of the largest on going

one topic the whole time which was Environmental harm that Palm Oil was causing. I also have to
meet all my due dates and not procrastinate. First step was to get all the research done. I had some
great sources that combined really well to form the whole outline of my video as well as the body of
the video. I then started making my video which took me some time as I was working with a new
program. I also ran into some problems but I was still able to meet my due date. Since I am not a tech
person my video didn t turn out amazing or anything but it had all the important information so I think
the viewer understood the message. My other goal was to cover every aspect of palm oil such as; how
it affects the environment, and how it affects people. My main specifications are: to meet all my due
dates I set out for myself, find well rounded information on Palm oil and create a video that has all the
information I that covers everything.
Selection of Sources: I used 8 different sources that each focused on a different aspect of Palm Oil.

The Topic For My Capstone Project Was To Gain Introductory
The topic for my capstone project was to gain introductory knowledge for penetration testing. I had
little knowledge on the subject itself, but I was interested in it enough to base this project around it.
What I knew before hand was very basic information and I would need to learn a lot more before I
could consider myself fully introduced to penetration testing. The goal of my capstone was to learn
how to safely practice penetration testing, set up a virtual machine penetration lab, learn why a lab
would need to be set up, and lastly to find out why penetration testing is important.
Penetration testing is when a company pays a specialist to try and break into their network and relay
back to them any vulnerabilities they may find. Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using these labels and their definitions explains the purpose of penetration testing a bit better. White
hats use the same methods and tools to break into networks as a black hat would, but they disclose the
security issue with the network owner. In a sense, a white hat imitates a malicious attack but there
would be no harm done to the network.
What are the vulnerabilities in which a penetration test would look for? Most penetration tests would
go through an information gathering state in which they look for as many different possible vulnerable
targets, and they may also capture the network traffic and investigate that as well. One example of an
attack could be infiltrating the file server and uploading a payload to that server. If an attacker can find
their way to accessing the file server, depending on what is kept on it, they could also have access to
secure files and any other sensitive information kept on it, possibly any of the configuration files to
that file server holding hashes for user passwords. Attackers may also look for any vulnerable
programs on network computers for more ways into the system. Depending on how much effort a
hacker wants to go through there is an endless amount of areas that they can check for vulnerabilities.
Anything from scanning port numbers to bypassing the firewall without being detected, networks can
be well secured but not to a point of being 100% safe from any

Anthropology In Sports
My personal interest in sports is based on how my parents and other family members nurtured me as a
child and youth. My continuous interest in sports has influenced my choice of this topic to provide me
a field experience and a deeper understanding. I have always been interested and engaged in play and
sports. Volleyball is my favorite sport and was the first organised sport I played in junior secondary
school at age 12. I have been involved in several competitive sports at from the amateur to the
national/elite level. I have participated in team sports (e.g., volleyball and soccer), field events (e.g.,
high jump, long jump), and track events (e.g., 100m, 200m, 400m, 800). I chose to focus on volleyball
for this project because it is a sport with which I am most comfortable and familiar. 1.4 Justification of
Study The anthropology of sports is a cross cultural sub discipline that focuses on analyses of sports
related social problems (Blanchard 1995:23). Although physical anthropologists for decades have
done studies on body types, morphology, and functions, less work has been done in the area of
cultural, social and psychological settings with regards to the way individuals live and also perform
(Malina 1972). There are virtually unlimited opportunities for additional research to be done (Coakley

The Lives of Emily and Charlotte Brontë
Emily and Charlotte Brontë retained exceptional novels throughout history. Their stories captivate the
minds of readers alike, taking them to a world of dark, eerie hatred, and overcoming the obstacle faced
with love and devotion. However, both sisters have diverse styles of writing. Charlotte Brontë tends to
use more humor through her works, while Emily Brontë uses more satire along with a sardonic tone. T
hey both come together to have somewhat similar themes, making the moral of the story mentally

One may say, that the theme would be: No matter how many struggles one faces, in the end, someone
will always be there to love a person, and cherish every moment they have together. The author tries to
epitomize that even though Jane struggled consequently through her entire life, in the end, she had
someone to love. Jane herself realizes this in the end of the novel, stating that she never met anyone
else who loved her in this quantity, and was willing to spend the rest of his life with her. Her life with
Rochester had been pleasant after the ten years of their marriage, and she remembers that they both
are equals in their relationship; one is not higher than the other. The author tries to prove that one
should not give up hope, even in desperate times, and wait until something better comes along, and
when it does, take it, and not let the chance go. The theme of love is stated throughout the novel.
Charlotte Brontë wrote what was known to be the tale of the heart s realisation through another, and of
the loss of what seemed to be realized ( Cambridge History, Jane Eyre, Part One 2). Jane Eyre for the
most part, had positive reviews from audiences, and professors. Such, Jane Eyre was a unique

Ancient Roman Civilization
The Ancient Roman Civilization was one of the most advanced and successful societies of their time.
But what led to their victory? Between the years 509 BCE and 120 CE the Romans developed their
dominance of the ancient world. Their location was key to their reign as it allowed trading throughout
the Mediterranean sea. Their ability to create infrastructure was a tactic they used to further define
themselves as a global superpower. They were able to create a complex road system that allowed them
to travel and trade with nearly everyone around them. They also built a water system so advanced
there was a choice in temperature. These developments would ve been meaningless without the
inhabitants. The citizens of the Roman Empire were broken down into classes; there are debates as to
whether or not this was beneficial. Regardless, the social structure greatly affected this civilization.
The Roman civilization constantly surpassed standards that no one had ever attempted to change.
They were certainly a force to be reckoned with.
The Mediterranean Sea was a central component of the Roman Empire. With several societies nearby
the Romans were able to trade constantly. There was always a variety of products circulating which
led to a diverse culture and lifestyle (Bednarz 81 82). Goods that could not be produced in Rome were
shipped in from other places like Italy, Greece, Africa and even Spain (Robinson 1). This trading was
appealing to the citizens because they could purchase

An Industry Analysis Of Smart Phone Industry

threat of substitutes and rivalry among existing firms in the industry as well as explaining the impact
of these forces on industry s profitability. Following is a description of these five forces in case of
smart phone industry, explanation of how these forces are likely to affect industry profitability and an
analysis of how Apple strategically neutralized the threats and capitalized on the opportunities posed
by these forces. Firstly, consider the bargaining power of suppliers. The suppliers in the smart phone
industry had strong bargaining power because they were specialist, i.e. providing exclusive supplies
and services and also few in number as is stated in the case; The supplier who captured most of the
value in the smart phones was Qualcomm, which largely controlled CDMA (3G) and LTE (4G) the

Words so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil
they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them. This quote from Winston
Churchill sums up how words are powerful and can have different meanings in the ways they are
used. Communication is much more than words or a conversation between two individuals, it has the
potential to be a powerful tool of connection, but at the same time it can do a great deal of damage.
Determining what areas of communication are beneficial will require a self evaluation on what is

response. This response can be cognitive or behavioral. An anchor does not need to be to be reinforced
with its response and it does not need to be conditioned over a period of time. Language is a common
anchoring system. For example, the word dog will be an auditory anchor to an image of four legged
animal that barks, an effective anchor with little cognitive effort. The smell of a hospital or a family
member screaming in anger is examples of anchors that have been unintentionally installed and they
operate out of an individual s awareness and direct control. Neuro Linguistic Programming operates to
install new anchors which work just as well as these unintentional anchors and work toward evoking a
response that increases the behavioral flexibility of a person and it is through these anchors that
changes can be made in the strategies of thought. Using NLP a therapist can establish a map of one s
cognitive representation of the world and place anchors that be established in a clients strategies that
provoke responses that differ from those expected using their original strategy. It is now used
internationally used by millions of people throughout the world in such diverse fields as management,
sales, marketing, public relations, education, therapy, the military and police, sport, and personal
development. (Schaefer, Beausay Pursley 1983).

First Amendment Rights In Schools
Students don t have the same First Amendment rights they have in the public compared to school.
Four major cases were brought to the Supreme Court concerning students First Amendment, Tinker ,
Fraser, Hazelwood, and Morse. The First Amendment states that Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
government for a redress of grievances. Only one ruled in favor of the student that being the first one,
Tinker which set the stage for the rest. Students First Amendment rights have changed since Tinker
expanded upon students right to being constricted because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with the decision of Tinker because the protest did not interrupt the teachings of the school.
The the majority opinion agrees that if the students First Amendment does not interrupt the teachings
of the school, it s okay. The dissenting opinion by Hugo Black says The truth is that a teacher of
kindergarten, grammar school , or high school pupils no more carries into a school with him a
complete right to freedom of speech and expression that an anti Catholic or anti Semite carries with
him a complete freedom of speech and religion into a Catholic church or Jewish synagogue . This
argument doesn t work because both a place of religion and school have different purposes. An anti
Catholic would interpret the teachings of a Catholic church. While all that Tinker did was wear a black
armband that caused no disturbance in the teachings of the school. The ruling for Bethel v. Fraser is
correct because Frasers use of sexual innuendo was to a crowd who was unaware. The court ruled,
saying A high school assembly or classroom is no place for a sexually explicit monologue directed
towards an unsuspecting audience of teenage students . I agree with the decision since the audience
were not aware of what was going to happen as. Around 600 14 year olds were present for the speech.

All Falls Down By Kanye West
Today many people feel compelled to buy anything or everything with an expensive price tag. This
includes Expensive designer clothes, latest gadgets, expensive vehicles and many other similar things.
This form of consumerism has embedded itself in today s society; where it s encouraged to invest in
such materialistic possessions. Kanye West is an African American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur,
who articulates his struggle with consumerism and the struggle for those around him in his song All
Falls Down. West, utilizes puns, rhyme, and juxtaposition to highlight the issues surrounding
materialism that can be interpreted differently by different listeners such as African Americans and
White Americans.
In the first verse, West introduces a woman who has her problems with materialism. To elaborate on
her condition, Kanye uses a pun by stating:
She s so precious with the peer pressure,
Couldn t afford a car, so she named her daughter Alexis.
West s clever use of a pun illustrates how the woman couldn t afford a Lexus so she named her
daughter Alexis. Alluding to the Japanese high end car manufacturer ... Show more content on

West is trying to elaborate on how buying their way out of jail, suggests that they are free from any
restraints. But they still cannot experience absolute freedom as they continue to face harassment by
the police. Throughout the song, West brings forward key issues regarding the black bling aesthetic. A
recurring motif in many hip hop songs today. West in his song All Falls Down points out that Material
aspirations and such worldly possession are just another way to heal the inner void within people. This
void can take place through insecurities or any form of traumatic experiences. Every person has such a
void within themselves Therefore a person will interpret this song from their different standpoint
which will come from the listener s background of

Emotional Analysis Of Dr. Oz
Dr. Mehmet Oz, commonly known as Dr. Oz, hosts a successful American TV show that focuses on
health, a topic that western culture has obsessed over. Recently, an increasing number of Americans
have sought to lead a better lifestyle by eating better; however, false advertisement has made everyone
believe that they must be willing to spend a small fortune to eat healthily. In the writing Give (Frozen)
Peas A Chance And Carrots Too , Oz argues that one does not need to eat like the 1% to maintain a
nutritious diet (1). His purpose is to inform his audience how and why they should shop smarter, and
he undoubtedly does an excellent job at persuading them to take his advice to heart. He does so by
forming a friendly bond with his audience, taking his argument to a personal level, and using facts to
compare normal, store bought foods to their organic counterparts. The only distinguishable weakness
in Oz s writing is that he fails to support his facts with evidence which leaves his arguments prone to
becoming hollow. Dr. Oz is able to effectively get through to his audience by connecting with them on
different levels of trust. For example, he formulates a friendly connection by keeping a casual,
sociable tone, and at the same time, he uses ethos by establishing that he is a doctor to create a sense
professionalism. Oz writes, as a doctor, I know that patients don t always have the time, energy or
budget to shop for artisanal ingredients and whip them into a meal (1). He s trying to sound
understanding of his audience s situation to make him more trustworthy. With these strategies, Oz is
able to build his trust on both a doctor patient and a friendly platform which gets his audience to listen
to him with an open mind. Oz successfully uses pathos to keep his audience engaged in his writing.
He s able to anger his audience at something they might have never been even slightly flustered over
by bringing up that which most people hold nearest to their heart: family. When describing the
purpose of his essay, Oz says, I consider it a public health service to the consumer who has to feed a
family of five or the person who wants to make all the right choices and instead is alienated and
dejected because the

Chivalry Code
However, Chaucer not only recognized pride within the hierarchies of the common man, but also
recognized the immorality of the knighthood. Knights were usually born into their class and raised to
serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman 18).
Because of their role of protection, knights were commanded to adhere to a code of conduct.
According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was
constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53). This
code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a
mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry isn t
about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was meant to
elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This ... Show more content on

While Dorigen, the wife of the knight Arviragus, laments over her husband s absence, Arviragus is
calm, not inclined to worry about whether anyone had spoken to her of love (Chaucer 469). Arviragus
doesn t waver in his trust, for he believes that Dorigen would never betray his love since he is a noble
knight; however, despite the love they share, Dorigen still barters a deal with another squire for her
love. Chaucer was able to recognize the irony within the knighthood and thus produce a tale in which
the Knight, haughty in his mindset of his social status, did not realize the unfaithfulness of his own
wife. Because the knights were regarded as the ideal warrior and man, pride naturally formed in their
behavior. Therefore, Chaucer portrayed the hypocrisy within their ideals and attacked the knighthood
and its social structure in regards to the falsehood of

Biology I Lab 1010 Lab Section U55
Abstract:
The objective of this experiment was to observe the transformation occurrence with E.coli and the
ampicillin resistance gene. When plasmids like lux or pUC18 are added in E.coli, they are more likely
to survive in certain environments that contain antibiotics. Plasmid can carry genes enabling bacteria
like E.coli to survive in harsh conditions. This experiment displayed how plasmid work when inserted
in E.coli with and without ampicillin. In certain agar plates, ampicillin was added with either the lux
plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid resulting in colony growth. In other agar plates, no ampicillin was
added when either the lux plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid was added resulting in colony growth. If
growth occurred from the bacteria when it was added in the Ampicillin agar plates, then it was
determined that the E.coli was transformed successfully and is expressing the Ampicillin resistant
genes.
Introduction: The small, circular DNA molecules that exist apart from the chromosomes in most
bacterial species are called plasmids. Plasmids are not needed for the survival of the host bacterial, but
some plasmids can carry genes that makes bacteria ampicillin resistant like pUC18 or

Yharnam Research Paper
The city of Yharnam, a place of healing and miracles, is the destination of many foreign travellers
seeking blood healing. The legend says that some type of sacred blood is used to help cure any type of
ailment. And so it is that many travellers set sail to seek the sacred city and its great cathedral.
In the beginning, the city was ruled by the royal family in Cainhurst. The castle was accessible only
through a bridge that connects to Hemwick, a small village by the west of Yharnam. The royal family
ruled for many years and with the help of the biggest academy in the region, Bergenwerth, they
managed to make great discoveries, thus advancing science and healing. Bergenwerth, which was

godhood itself. The discovery of the tombs of the gods below the city had started an evolutionary
movement within the academy. Their theory was that ancient beings inhabited the city of Yharnam
beforehand and had managed to make contact with greater beings called the Great Ones . Great Ones
were worshipped as Gods and used to communicate with the Pthumerians, the ancient inhabitants of
the city of Yharnam. That communication with the Great Ones allowed the Pthumerians to ascend to a
new level of existence, enhancing their physical abilities and allowing them to use powers akin to
magic, arcane powers. Furthermore, an average Pthumerian could live longer than humans by a long
stretch. Evidence of that was provided when scholars encountered few of them during their numerous
tomb excavations. Pthumerians have become only shells, serving to guard the tombs where the gods
are buried. Killing one of them takes immense power and reflexes. Many scholars had lost their lives
going into the tomb where the first Pthumerian was encountered until hunters came into

  • 2. Lack Of Reason In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding Lack of Reason and Increasing Savagery Human nature is complex, filled with unpredictability and flaws. As seen in Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the darker side of humanity is revealed in times of survival and conflict. Throughout the novel, the boys on the island become increasingly barbaric and violent when they are faced with dire situations. Through the escalating tension surrounding the symbolic nature of Piggy s glasses and its representation of the boys rationality, William Golding conveys the message that lack of reason brings out the innate savage side of human nature. Piggy s glasses are symbolic of the boys humane side and their reason. At the start of the novel, the boys on the island seem to be pleasant people and they understand the importance of starting a signal fire to be rescued. The boys are rational and are fighting for survival. The glasses are still in tact; they are going to be used to help the boys create a signal fire. Ralph speaks to the boys, exclaiming His specs use them as burning glasses! (Golding 40), showing that they want to return to society because they are using their resources at hand to start a fire and be rescued. They still have reason due to the fact they try to send a signal for rescue and would rather be rescued than accept a new life on the island. The glasses are in one piece, symbolizing their rationality is present and held together at the beginning of their journey. The low tension is among the boys and who ... • 3. Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Spanish Civil War The twentieth century saw more proxy wars than any time in human history; great powers would flex their martial muscles in smaller theatres of conflict in order to test their own strengths and weaknesses without risking their international reputation as an aggressive nation. The Spanish Civil War served as a significant proxy for the totalitarian European powers in the interwar period; Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany would support the right wing nationalists while the Soviet Union and various International Brigades would back the alliance of the Republican government and Anarcho communist organizations. Spain would serve as a testing ground for the armed forces of the European totalitarian states in which major military and ideological support would be given to the Spanish belligerents. In spite of initial setbacks in the initial military coup, Francisco Franco would eventually crush the Republican Anarchist opposition and maintain authoritarian control of Spain for decades. His success was due in large part to the interests of Hitler and Mussolini in creating a friendly state in the Iberian Peninsula. Through contributions of manpower, military advisors and materiel from the Nazis and Fascists, Nationalist Spain was able to take advantage of the less organized and squabbling Republican government forces. La Guerra Civil was the culmination of a century of turmoil in Spain. The Spanish monarchy would be abolished in 18XX, with its Savoyard King famously declaring the ... • 4. The Problems Of American Schools Essay Andrew R. Deras Dr. Jide Osikomaiya English 100 8 September 2016 The Most Compelling Problems In American Schools As we delve back into a new year for students and teachers alike returning to school to continue with the daily life of academics and learning, we all must be understanding of what exactly we are sending our peers and children back to. It should be no surprise to most of us that throughout the years we have seen countless upon countless examples from the news and through others, that our school system is flawed in some way, shape or form. It is no longer a coincidence that our students are only achieving 36th from the top in all total curriculum (Arnett). This is also evident to anyone who may happen to own a T.V. and has been a viewer to these numerous articles describing these horrible issues we have within schools firsthand (ABC News). Not only that, but schooling can also be further compromised by politics and law related issues (Ravitch). What my goal for the essay I am submitting to you is; to give my opinions on the current situation of public schooling in America, discuss the issues, and back my points I will be presenting, with concrete evidence I have uncovered in my research. I would like to make it clear that my stance on the current situation is that there is not only a singular problem with public education, but a number of issues that inhibit students to learn properly and function as productive members of society. An excellent place to start would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The History Of Wine Production The history of wine production traces back thousands of years, with the earliest evidence of a wine like drink located in China circa and estimated to be of at 7000 BC. Wine was the center of the agricultural culture of many civilizations like the Romans, the Phoenicians and the Greeks, who considered wine a divine drink of the gods. Wine remains until today one of the largest components of the agricultural production in the Western civilization (Appendix 1). Grapevine is one of the most economically and socially important crops around the globe. Grapes are used for the production of raising, grape juice, jams and vinegar, but the main end product is wine. It was estimated in 2005 that 65.7% of the production of grapes is being used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The past few years however, groups have been trying to address the cultivation techniques from another perspective; by genetically modifying grapevines. Realizing the global significance of wine, scientists specializing in plant biology, viticulture and enology from the major wine producing areas (USA, Australia, France, Canada, Chile, Italy, Germany, Spain and South Africa) launched the International Grape Genome Program (IGGP) in the beginning of the century. It involves a cooperative genome sequence analysis of the species Vitis Vinifera, one of the most common grapevine species. The goal of the IGGP is to provide insights into the molecular biology of the species. Using genetic tools, scientists are attempting to modify specific parts of the Vitis genome to produce higher quality wine, disease resistant crops and provide a database for producers to plant the right species with respect to the specific environment of their production site. According to data collected in 2007, half of the grape genome has been mapped, which includes more than 22800 nucleotide sequences and the project is expected to grow even more the next years. The data has been placed in the public databases of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Genetically Disease Resistant Grapes Following the launch ... The constant change in public opinion, morals, finances, socially acceptable behaviors, and cultural diversity limits the potential for implementation of a concrete model of law enforcement policy and procedure. In order to maintain the proper balance between law enforcement operations and the changing social dynamic it is imperative to measure the needs of the populace in relation to the change. Prophesying that the community will place high levels of importance with public safety and community predicament, it can be derived that social issues are the center of cynicism aimed at law enforcement officers and their respective departmental policies and procedures. Introduction Various aspects of society are impacted when strain is present between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve; a breakdown in system policy and procedure propels officers to the forefront of negative opinion relative to community relations. It becomes apparent that social discord is unbounded when the justice system fails to recognize discrepancies in the operations at a variety of levels. In order to obtain a solid platform for reconnecting this community and the officers serving within, it is imperative that respondent information is used to benefit both community needs and public safety respectively. In order to facilitate the necessary changes a survey would be provided to the members of the community and the officers within the jurisdiction. One reason that scholars think that Psalm 146 was composed at a later date is because of its use of Aramaisms in verses four (i.e. estonotayw or their plans ) and five (i.e. sibro or whose hope ), as well as its use of the late Hebrew word zoqep (i.e. lifts up ) in verse eight. Another aspect that makes gender wage gap a wicked problem is that there is debate whether this issue exists in American society. Moreover, there are long lasting impressions of what society thinks is normal and common practice. If policymakers and government are not willing to confront the problem, society will continue to deny the problem. • 10. Honor Based Violence And Domestic Violence Honor based violence and domestic violence are two common forms of violence that exist in our world today, and they have for many years (Devaney, 2014; Hague, Gill, Begikhani, 2013; Olwan, 2013). Honor based violence covers a wide variety of violent acts performed by a male relative that are done in order to preserve family honor (Eshareturi, Lyle, Morgan, 2014), and this type of violence is associated most often with Middle Eastern nations (Belfrage, Strand, Ekman, Hasselborg, 2012; Olwan, 2013; Standish, 2014). Domestic violence is an umbrella term for a variety of actions such as rape, as well as assaults of both the physical and verbal varieties (Policastro, Payne, 2013). While the rationale and execution of each of these types of violence varies (Chesler, 2010; Eshareturi et al., 2014), there are underlying similarities that exist among both. In both instances of honor based violence and domestic violence, victims can be seen as losing power and control within their own lives, which can be noted in the ways that one can lose their honor, including: conforming too much to Western cultures, having relationships with people outside of your own culture, or leaving a man who treats you as an object (Chester, 2010; Eshareturi et al., 2014; Standish, 2014). Women who are victims of honor based violence lose the opportunity to live their lives freely due to honor disrupting behaviors (Chester, 2010; Eshareturi et al., 2014; Standish, 2014). • 11. The True Hero Of The Iliad Talha Yousaf Theodore O Neill Human Being and Citizen I 27 October 2014 Hector The true hero of The Iliad Throughout human history, mankind has venerated heroes because they possess the ideals that people strive to achieve themselves. The appearance and importance of heroes in The Iliad form a major part of what makes it such a celebrated tale. The concept of heroism, however, for the ancient Greeks and modern society is quite different. The Greeks viewed heroes as humans usually descended from the gods and in possession of superhuman strength and an aptitude for battle . Achilles clearly fits the above definition and therefore it comes as no surprise that he has historically been viewed as the main hero of the epic. However, the modern day definition of heroism, more than just strength and prowess in battle, encompasses the idea of a moral responsibility: defending one s people from harm and sacrificing one s own desires or life for the sake of others. Hector proves to be a great warrior, referred to as man killing Hector by the Achaeans, and therefore can be seen as a hero by the Greek perspective. However that is not the defining characteristic of the Trojan Prince. His character revolves around a sense of moral responsibility towards his people, his culture and his family, and using his power to defend them, sacrificing his own life in the process. The goal of this paper is to prove that Hector, not Achilles, is the true hero of The Iliad. Early on in the tale we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Congratulations, you are now in the 1.3 million that also contributed to this statistic. The college dropout rate varies based upon a wide variety of problems college students encounter. Now your reasons for dropping out? There could be many, some of which you couldn t control. However, there are some that directly contribute to the dropout rate; that you could have. We ll be looking at 13 pieces of evidence that contribute to the dropout rate. Sometimes ethnicities have lower completion rates than others, Asian/Pacific Islanders have the highest rate and American Indian/Alaskan natives the lowest 66% and 40% (Pleskac). So you cannot choose your ethnic background, but that is no reason to not go to college or get a degree. About 40% of black and Hispanic students had a family crisis just within their sophomore year of college. That was almost 6% more than white and virtually 20% more than Asian students (Harris). Those things you cannot control and it is important that you keep the right mindset during hard times, so it does not interfere with studies. Throughout the war with the French, Ho Chi Minh took refuge in northern Vietnam and settled there with his followers. He founded the Indochina Communist Party and the Viet Minh. North Vietnam was a deprived area and was cut off from the agricultural profit of South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was forced to ask assistance from main Communist allies, the Soviet Union and China. Both aided North Vietnam before and during the war. (Dong Si Nguyen, Duong xuyen Truong son: hoi uc. Hanoi: Nha Xuat Ban Quan Doi Nhan Dan, 1999). Ho Chi Minh declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. This had been a tremendously significant event in world history perhaps the most important event since the 1917 October Revolution in Russia. It marked the first occasion in human history in which a radical national movement under Communist leadership had succeeded in overthrowing the influence of a colonial state and establishing and maintaining its own new, independent form of social and political system. However, Ho s type of communism was markedly different than that of Marxist ideology that had been the metaphorical icon of the October Revolution. alike to Jose Antonio s fascist movement, the hierarchical communist party (later renamed the Vietminh) conformed intimately to the ideas of the person at its head, but unlike Antonio s movement, did not ... • 14. Horror Argument For Horror Movies Horror Genre Argument One in four college students in a recent study said they experience lingering effects of a frightful movie or TV experience from childhood. (Bernie DeGroat) Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief the someone or something is dangerous causing pain, or threats. It is not appropriate for middle schoolers to read classic horror stories like The Tell Tale Heart , because they can cause them anxiety and it can make them aggressive after watching scary movies. Horror movies can cause middle schoolers anxiety because horror movies have different components not appropriate for children. This fear and anxiety of horror movies can cause pain or threats. This means that even after the movie is done, middle schoolers can feel anxious and uneasy because they saw violence and other things in the movie that can happen in the real world. In the text The Tell Tale Heart the narrator states I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, thus riding myself of the eye forever . This means that the narrator has decided to take the life of the old man because of his eye. Middle Schoolers might interpret this as okay to kill a man because of his eye. There are many different types of horror. These types of horror can cause aggression. Aggression is hostile or violent behavior or attitudes toward another. This happens because of the violence they experience in horror films. In the online text Scary movies can have lasting effects on children and teens, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver is a story that deals with an obvious dispute between a couple that is divorcing, or a least separating. The text deals with an unfortunate fight that seems to also involve the couples child, which is an infant. 2. What is the author s view? How do I know? It is difficult to discern what views the author chooses to express in this story, that is a dispute that goes awry. With the use of short punchy sentences as well as cursing and other aggressive tones, the author seems to have and understanding of what a horrid fight may be like. The personal beliefs of this author is difficult to figure out, as little evidence is given to the reader. The author clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. What is the evidence presented by the author to support ideas? The idea of separation and aggression can be seen in themes highlighted in the story. Specifically with references to snow in the beginning of the story, the idea of purity and innocence being lost is mentioned as evidences by the dirtying of the snow. The idea of anger is rampant, and can be seen especially with the woman who is angered as she is seen doing the most swearing, whereas the male simply moves forward and seems to not want to discuss problems any longer. 4. Is the evidence valid? How do I know? The evidence of the dirtying of snow is valid, and that is known as it sets the tone for the rest of the story and its conflict (Carver R). The idea of darkness and bitterness is continued. 5. Is the evidence relevant? How do I know? The evidence is extremely relevant, as it allows to set an appropriate tone in the story. The distance, disappointment and anger that is seen between the couple is so evident that it acts as the main drive of the story. Without the indicator of anger, the story would lack appropriate tone, making the evidence important as well as relevant. 6. Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What was ... • 17. Euthyphro Main question of the Dialogue The main question of this dialogue is the definition of the word holy or piety. Euthyphro brags that he is more knowledgeable than his father on matters relating to religion. In this case, Socrates suggests to Euthyphro to define that term. The first definition fails to satisfy Socrates because of its limitation in application. Apparently, Socrates perceives this definition as an example rather than a definition. Subsequent arguments and line of questioning lead to five sets of definitions that are refined to find the general definition. Socrates expects that the acceptable general definition of the question will act as a reference point in his defense. Problems with Euthyphro s initial definition According ... What Socrates uses to Combat Euthyphro s Conceptions of holiness At the core of Socrates argument is the need to break down the definition of holiness into smaller coherent characteristics. Socrates uses a series of question that are consistent with Euthyphro s argument to ensure that he [Euthyphro] offers a consistent flow of definitions of the word holy. Euthyphro accepts these ideas because he offers different definitions that are in line with the clarified ideations. Socrates uses basic philosophical question What is holy? , which leads to a myriad of definitions with different characteristics. Euthyphro sums up all these characteristics in the final definition. Euthyphro s problem is that he is trying to show his prowess among social and philosophical elite by proving his father to be impious. His ego coupled with his father s flattery obscures Euthyphro from developing concrete definitions. Deeper (Philosophical) Point of Justice Socrates point on justice is that everything that is termed just ought to be entirely holy. On the other hand, not everything that is deemed holy is just. However, the term just is used interchangeably with the term morally good. I think Socrates point is to find enough proof to support any premise beyond reasonable doubt. We have looked at two terms; reliability and validity which were used in the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale to help assess individuals self esteem. According to the book Essentials of Statistics of Behavioral Science by authors Frederick J. Gravetter and Larry B. Wallnau (2014) they define reliability as how consistent a study or measuring device is. A measurement is said to be reliable or consistent if the measurement can produce similar results if used again in similar circumstances. Along with that they define validity as an indication of whether the measuring device measures what it claims to. An example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without reliability and validity it would be very difficult to decide which research should be trusted and which should be completely disregarded. The main goal of this report was to assess reliability and validity through the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale where participants rated their level of self esteem from 1 7. A 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7 indicating that they strongly agree with that trait. Along with this we used Cronbachs alpha to indicate the consistency within the scale. Method Participants at Texas A M University (N=33) were asked to report their age, which ranged from 19 to 28years of age and their gender. Twenty five of the participants were female while the remaining eight were males. The average age of participants that was frequently reported was 20 years (SD=1.97). A total of 10 items were recorded (Appendix A, Appendix B, Appendix C, Appendix D, Appendix E, Appendix F, Appendix G, Appendix H, Appendix I, Appendix J). Each student was asked to write which trait they felt related to how they felt about themselves. For this section we used Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale, where a 7 point Likert scale was used, a 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7 indicating that they strongly agree with that trait. Throughout this report there were 5 out of the 10 traits that were reverse coded which refers to flipping the category values (i.e. 1 becomes 7, 2 becomes 6, 3 becomes 5.,etc.). ... • 20. Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society 1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how it needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape society by developing new things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language. Internalization is man using the structures of the objective world to help form his own thoughts and opinions. These all maintain a stable society with a similar reality. ... Stepfamilies And Its Effects On Children Research Paper Introduction The right definition of a stepfamily is hard to describe but through history stepfamilies are defined as two partners getting married to form a family with children that they had from previous relationships. Today facts show that one third of all American families belong to one of the many categories of stepfamilies. This research paper will focus on the controversy having stepparents. Sone psychologists argue that it is not healthy for a child to be raised by just one parent which puts a lot of responsibility on only one of the parents and others argue that the burden of raising a child who is not yours as a stepparent is heavier than a child that grows with just one single parent. Literature review Statistics on stepfamilies are staggering; the majority of families have shifted from the original biologically bonded mother, father and child. We are now a nation in which the majority of families take a multitude of forms: divorced with children; the children reside with one parent and visit the other. What are the fundamental teachings this amazing story explains. Well like any good story it is about unlikely heroes, kings, seers, nations rising up and falling. But though all the different turns it makes there is one key theme that can be seen throughout. Notably, it is that despite our many sins God s desires a personal relationship with his people. So how did it all begin? Well as it reads God created the heavens and the earth. He created every living thing that is in the universe and he created man, male and female did he create them. And he placed Adam and Eve in a garden and gave them everything that they needed only stimulating that they could not eat from the tree in the center of the garden, the tree of good and evil. Unfortunately, they were tempted and gave into there human desires. This is how sin came into the world making everything chaotic and apart from what it was created to be. Now Adam and Eve had numerous descendants but many were evil and there was only one who was righteous in the sight of the Lord, Noah. Hence, God gave directions to Noah concerning the construction of a large boat, otherwise known as an Ark. It is thought to have originated in Northern Australia and researchers think it may have been in use for 40,000 years. There are carvings on cave walls that depict the didgeridoo in use from the Kakadu people dating back about 1,000 years. (The Didjeridu: From Arnhem Land to the Internet) The first Didgeridoos were made of eucalyptus trees limbs or Bamboo and that were hollowed out by termites. (McMahon) Aborigine people living in Northern Australia would clean them out using sticks and cut them to an ideal length. After cleaning the limbs or bamboo out, hot coals are used to kill any insects. Most didgeridoos range from three to ten feet long. Length usually plays a role in pitch; if it is longer it has a lower tone and shorter instruments have a higher pitch. Didgeridoos are usually conical in shape. The Didgeridoo is a wind instrument or aerophone. It is called this because it uses air to vibrate and create sound within an instrument. (Hornbostel and Sachs) The player blows air into the smaller end or mouthpiece and often times people use beeswax to help create a seal with the lips and the instrument. Air pushed through the lips help the lips to vibrate and create the sound. Today modern didgeridoo s can be made from a variety of materials. Most penetration tests would go through an information gathering state in which they look for as many different possible vulnerable targets, and they may also capture the network traffic and investigate that as well. One example of an attack could be infiltrating the file server and uploading a payload to that server. If an attacker can find their way to accessing the file server, depending on what is kept on it, they could also have access to secure files and any other sensitive information kept on it, possibly any of the configuration files to that file server holding hashes for user passwords. Attackers may also look for any vulnerable programs on network computers for more ways into the system. An anchor is a specific word which represents behaviors classically conditioned to evoke a specific response. This response can be cognitive or behavioral. An anchor does not need to be to be reinforced with its response and it does not need to be conditioned over a period of time. Language is a common anchoring system. For example, the word dog will be an auditory anchor to an image of four legged animal that barks, an effective anchor with little cognitive effort. The smell of a hospital or a family member screaming in anger is examples of anchors that have been unintentionally installed and they operate out of an individual s awareness and direct control. Neuro Linguistic Programming operates to install new anchors which work just as well as these unintentional anchors and work toward evoking a response that increases the behavioral flexibility of a person and it is through these anchors that changes can be made in the strategies of thought. Using NLP a therapist can establish a map of one s cognitive representation of the world and place anchors that be established in a clients strategies that provoke responses that differ from those expected using their original strategy. • 48. Emotional Analysis Of Dr. Oz Dr. Mehmet Oz, commonly known as Dr. Oz, hosts a successful American TV show that focuses on health, a topic that western culture has obsessed over. Recently, an increasing number of Americans have sought to lead a better lifestyle by eating better; however, false advertisement has made everyone believe that they must be willing to spend a small fortune to eat healthily. In the writing Give (Frozen) Peas A Chance And Carrots Too , Oz argues that one does not need to eat like the 1% to maintain a nutritious diet (1). His purpose is to inform his audience how and why they should shop smarter, and he undoubtedly does an excellent job at persuading them to take his advice to heart. He does so by forming a friendly bond with his audience, taking his argument to a personal level, and using facts to compare normal, store bought foods to their organic counterparts. The only distinguishable weakness in Oz s writing is that he fails to support his facts with evidence which leaves his arguments prone to becoming hollow. Dr. Oz is able to effectively get through to his audience by connecting with them on different levels of trust. For example, he formulates a friendly connection by keeping a casual, sociable tone, and at the same time, he uses ethos by establishing that he is a doctor to create a sense professionalism. Oz writes, as a doctor, I know that patients don t always have the time, energy or budget to shop for artisanal ingredients and whip them into a meal (1). He s trying to sound understanding of his audience s situation to make him more trustworthy. With these strategies, Oz is able to build his trust on both a doctor patient and a friendly platform which gets his audience to listen to him with an open mind. Oz successfully uses pathos to keep his audience engaged in his writing. He s able to anger his audience at something they might have never been even slightly flustered over by bringing up that which most people hold nearest to their heart: family. When describing the purpose of his essay, Oz says, I consider it a public health service to the consumer who has to feed a family of five or the person who wants to make all the right choices and instead is alienated and dejected because the ... Knights were usually born into their class and raised to serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman 18). Because of their role of protection, knights were commanded to adhere to a code of conduct. According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53). This code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry isn t about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was meant to elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This ... The Transformation Occurrence of Plasmid in Bacterial Growth Cherline Riche ________________________________________________________________________ Panther ID: 5471556 Crystal Garcia, Joselyn Pozo, Tory Jarett Biology I Lab 1010 Lab Section U55 Abstract: The objective of this experiment was to observe the transformation occurrence with E.coli and the ampicillin resistance gene. When plasmids like lux or pUC18 are added in E.coli, they are more likely to survive in certain environments that contain antibiotics. Plasmid can carry genes enabling bacteria like E.coli to survive in harsh conditions. This experiment displayed how plasmid work when inserted in E.coli with and without ampicillin. In certain agar plates, ampicillin was added with either the lux plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid resulting in colony growth. In other agar plates, no ampicillin was added when either the lux plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid was added resulting in colony growth. If growth occurred from the bacteria when it was added in the Ampicillin agar plates, then it was determined that the E.coli was transformed successfully and is expressing the Ampicillin resistant genes. Introduction: The small, circular DNA molecules that exist apart from the chromosomes in most bacterial species are called plasmids. Plasmids are not needed for the survival of the host bacterial, but some plasmids can carry genes that makes bacteria ampicillin resistant like pUC18 or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
