Rakas V. Jerome Case Study
Case Brief: Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978) Facts After being told the details of a supposed
getaway car from a robbery, the police saw the car and began to drive after it (Rakas V. Illinois 439
U.S. 128 (1978)). The officers then took off after the car to conduct a search passed on probable cause.
After completing the search the officers found a shot gun and shells within the car (Rakas V. Illinois
439 U.S. 128 (1978)). The owner of the vehicle had no correlations to the robbery, so the passengers
took responsibility of the gun and ammo (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Upon their court
date, the men that were incarcerated decided they wanted to motion to suppress the gun. However due
to a lack of standing, the motion to suppress was denied (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)).
Procedural History The petitioners wanted the Appellate Court of Illinois to reconsider the decision of
convicting them with armed robbery (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Unfortunately, the courts
did not change their mind on the conviction and denied to the suppression of the gun and ammo

User Assistance Paper
User assistance is an important part of any product that helps to improve user experience with a
particular product. Many products that are released for global markets require that user assistance help
and documentation be translated in multiple languages for specific target locales. This paper presents
the process of optimizing user assistance help content for translation in the following two categories:
writing suggestions and technical considerations.
Writing suggestions 1. Use a style guide. A style guide defines the grammar, syntax and tone
translators should use to facilitate a higher quality of translation and convey the source content
accurately.
2. Develop a terminology glossary. A glossary should provide a comprehensive set of terminology that
includes product names, trademarked terms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simplify the written language. To make documents clear and easy to translate, keep headlines and sub
headlines parallel. Use the same term to mean the same thing throughout the documentation. This can
be implemented through the utilization of a source style guide and glossary.
4. Include universal units of measure. Different countries use different units of measure. Lack of
clearly defined units of measure can cause significant confusion and costly errors. Therefore, it is
important to include both metric and imperial measurements in the documentation.
5. Include international phone and date formats. Because phone numbers and date formats vary from
region to region, these formats should be displayed correctly in the source and translated copies of
documentation. For example, in the U.S., phone numbers are expressed as (425) 517 2577. However,
international customers also need to know the country code, which for the US is +1. Thus, displaying
the phone number as +1 425.517.2577 helps international customers. Likewise, many countries use
dd/mm/yyyy. To avoid confusion, it is necessary to indicate clearly which date format is used or to

World War Two And Its Effect On The World
World War Two
World War Two began in 1939 and it when for six year, World War Two lasted until both the Germans
and the Japanese had surrendered in 1945, which was six years after it began. It began in September
1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany had invaded Poland. January
1933 Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and he immediately he secretly built up Germany s
army and weapons. In 1934 he made the size of the army bigger and he began to build warships and
he created a German air force. Britain and France were aware of Germany preparing for war but they
were concerned about the rise of Communism and they thought that if Germany was stronger, it might
prevent the spread of Communism. In 1936 German troops entered Rhineland, they weren t very
strong at this point and they couldn t of been defeated easily by France or England but neither of them
were prepared for war. Germany s next step was to take back the land that was originally theirs and in
March 1938 German troops moved into Austria, the Austrian leader was forced to hold a vote to see if
Austria wanted to be apart of Germany. The voting results shows that were fixed and 99% of people
wanted to be in union with Germany. Austria looked for help from France and Britain and hitter
promised that it was the last of Germany spreading because he didn t want war. Hitler lied and in
March 1939 invaded Czechoslovakia. Despite the Czechoslovakian government asking for help either

Why I Am My Freedom At The Time Is Truly Freedom, Or...
Millions of choices ripple through our lives daily bringing overwhelming possibilities to endless
paths. Each of these trifling choices brings us to who we are today. But, it only takes one minimal
choice to halt our future and steer us spiraling in a different direction. It s with this ONE choice that
years later led me to What Ifs? and regrets, and made me question whether my freedom at the time
was truly freedom, or constraint. From a very young age, I was raised around horses. Through
generations of Andersons riding was a given, a family trait, however, riding was never that important
to me. I was taught to ride when I was just six years old and started competing when I was ten. I spent
countless afternoons training after school, trotting and cantering around the horse track or down riding
trails. For a while riding, was liberating, a release from the outside world, but as I turned fourteen
riding became something that only squandered my free time. For months I made excuses, or lied about
going to the stables. I did not know how to tell my Mom that I no longer shared her love for riding, it
meant too much to her, to my family, but I was sick of spending my free time doing something I no
longer enjoyed. Eventually my Mom caught on to my tricks, yet her response was unexpected. She
was calm and collected and allowed me to quit on a whim. It was not till years later that I realized that
maybe the freedom she gave me to make my own choice, pertaining riding, was not

Persuasive Essay On Stop And Frisk
Parayno, Jay Mard
English 105
Professor Zaragoza
December 11, 2016
Stop and Frisk Stop and frisk is a tactic designed for reducing crime by allowing police officers to
stop and search individuals that may seem suspicious. This law allows police officers to search
individuals only if they have reasonable suspicion that a crime might occur or if the suspect is carrying
anything illegal or dangerous. Between the years of 2002 and 2016, there have been 5 million stop and
streets interrogations, and nine out of 10 individuals who were stopped have been completely innocent
( Stop and Frisk Data ). With that being said, stop and frisk should not continue to be a policing tactic
because it is ineffective, it gives too much power to police officers, and promotes racial profiling. One
misconception that many believe is that the stop and frisk program brings in many criminals or even
those that have potential; however, many stop and frisk incidents were unsuccessful, making the tactic
ineffective. According to the NYPD s own report, over 100,000 people were stopped every year since
2002 and every year above 77% were innocent ( Stop and Frisk Data ). In an interview conducted by
Amy Goodman for Democracy Now, she interviews a NYPD officer named Adhyl Polanco ( NYPD
Officer Risks ). He states that the officers will cuff anyone just to meet their quota. Polanco continues,

Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation
Hypothetical Misinterpretation
Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship
between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism for allowing
misinterpretations to be deemed as valid could mean options. However, one finds when reading Two
Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in Literature that these criticisms are
effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode
of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers.
These could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be
judged on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple correct
interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive.
To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and
use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their
interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean
modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually
have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean
and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a
determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean
inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation
available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations
create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean
interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations.

Summary Of Plutarch s Death Of Cleopatra
The extract from Plutarch s Life of Antony concentrates on Cleopatra s seduction of Antony. It
presents Cleopatra and her retinue as manipulative, Her [Cleopatra s] flatterers also worked hard upon
Antony at this time. They told him that he must be an insensitive brute with a heart of stone, for here
was a mistress who was utterly devoted to him alone . Plutarch: Makers of Rome also references
Cleopatra s wiles, Plato speaks of four kinds of flattery. but Cleopatra knew a thousand (Scott Kilvert,
1965, p. 296).
Plutarch opines that Cleopatra s ignominy of being Antony s concubine is tolerable if, [She] could see
him and spend her life with him.... if he drove her away it would be the death of her . Consequently,
melted and unmanned Antony returns to Alexandria fearing Cleopatra s suicide. In doing so, Antony
neglects his duties at Parthia, [With] Cleopatra s alarms, and arts upon the occasion. He puts off his
Median expedition (Langhorne et al., 1810, P. 58). Portraying Cleopatra as a femme fatale, Plutarch
sees the relationship reducing Antony to a fallen hero dishonouring Rome. ... Show more content on

Analysis Of Dante s Inferno
Dante s Divine Comedy is a work that has lasted many generations, and has greatly contributed to
even our own visualization of the afterlife. It is separated into three parts with the most striking
section of the work being the Inferno. In Inferno, the character Dante travels through hell, and
identifies the sins and consequent punishment of those who are damned. However, Inferno is not a
simple report of an event, but also includes several literary devices that convey grander and more
significant themes of sin, punishment, and the afterlife. These devices Dante uses in his work are, but
not limited to, symbolism, allegory, allusion, and a special kind of irony called contrapasso, which
will be discussed in this essay. Dante also arranges ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when many similar allusions appear in what seems to be a deliberate order, it becomes
noticeable that the author wanted to convey a topic or argument in his or her writing without explicitly
saying so. But, why do authors choose to hide their ideas behind recurring symbols and allusions?
They usually do this because it is easier for them to demonstrate their beliefs through images and
symbols than words. Additionally, creating a text that has multiple layers of meaning also enriches the
work, and this is underlined by The Divine Comedy s long standing popularity. (Encyclopedia
Britannica) The Divine Comedy is considered to be an allegorical work because there are many
proposed theories for allegories throughout the story, and even some that encompass the entire work.
Additionally, because of its religious subject matter, many scholars study The Divine Comedy as they
would a religious work. For many, this entails interpreting the text in both a literal and figurative sense
(Encyclopedia Britannica).
One of the most popular and debated events is in Canto IX when the characters Dante and Virgil arrive
at the gates to the city of Dis. Beyond the locked gates, in the city, are the remaining circles of Hell the
characters need to travel through. However, they are spotted by three furies (some kind of beasts in
hell), and are

Patagonia Another Way of Doing Business

grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers. Alpinism remains at the heart of a

Today with the Common Threads Initiative they are pursuing the exact same philosophy and trying to

way of doing business implies a new kind of relationship with customers, reinforced by unconditional
guarantees, extremely high product quality and an explicit commitment to ethical codes of behavior
(Reinhardt, 2000). For Yvon Chouinard Patagonia is a business experiment, one of his goals is to run
the company so it s here 100 years from now and always makes the best quality products. Yet he finds
that concern for quality and sustainability doesn t pose a conflict with running a highly successful
business. Every time we do the right thing, our profits go up (Chouinard, 2005). Patagonia is the
perfect example of successful business with high ethics standard, it has led the company to enjoy an
unrivaled reputation among outdoor aficionados, and its green philosophy is gaining broader appeal as
more people embrace sustainable consumption. 6 References Chouinard, Y. (2005). Let My People Go

Aristotle s Virtue Ethics
Ethics in Engineer, Is it Virtuous?
Aristotle developed a type of ethics that many use throughout the world, virtue ethics. Virtue ethics
can be defined as an act that is right if, and only if, a virtuous person performs it for the right reason.
That begs the question, What is a virtuous person? A virtuous person is someone who conforms to
moral and ethical principles. For the sake of argument, morality is the difference between right and
wrong. I will discuss Aristotle s virtue ethics, how they apply to engineering, and how Dr. Harris s
claims differ from those of Aristotle.
Aristotle laid out three points in his theory of virtue ethics: eudaimonia, arête, and telos. First,
eudaimonia is achieving ultimate happiness within oneself. In Aristotle s mind, eudaimonia means you
have lived a good life and you are using reason to help feed the soul. The second point in his theory is
arête or virtue. Aristotle describes arête as becoming the ultimate of ones kind. According to Aristotle,
humans should strive every day to be the best we can be and to live the good life. Finally, telos is said
by Aristotle to be the final cause or end. All of us are living our lives here on earth and take different
paths along the way. One component of our lives is the same no matter our culture, religion, or
ethnicity and that is death. The way we live our lives and seek that final cause is what Aristotle
believes is important. Engineers are use to derivations, Aristotle believed that any moral

Brief Summary In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Losing a loved one can be one of the most difficult things that a person may have to endure in their
life. The author of the poem The Raven , Edgar Allan Poe, had to endure several devastating losses
throughout his life, including the loss of his mother, his adopted mother, and his wife all to
tuberculosis. This intense loss shows very clearly in his different works. The Raven is a poem about a
man who has lost the woman he loves and is very lonely until he begins to imagine a Raven and
eventually becomes even more depressed. While others may disagree, the Raven in Edgar Allan Poe s

Towards the end of the poem, the Speaker is causing his own sadness to grow due to his realization
that he will never again be happy nor escape his sadness. The Speaker imagines a shadow enveloping
him in the quote And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor/ Shall be lifted
nevermore! (Poe 107 108). In this scene, the Speaker is sitting in the shadow of a statue of the goddess
of wisdom, Pallas. The shadow symbolizes the Speaker s inability to escape his sorrow and the
shadow completely envelopes, or covers, the Speaker. He imagines that the Raven is the one casting
the shadow but his sadness and loneliness drive him to imagine the bird in his head. When he says,
Shall be lifted nevermore! (Poe 108), he realizes that there is absolutely nothing that he can do to help
himself. He is beginning to seem relieved, when all of the sudden, the mood is slammed back into
darkness by the word nevermore (Poe 108). This word proves the Speaker s worst fears that he will
not be able to escape the sadness and doom that he has created for himself. Poe s word choice proves

Terrorism Is Defined As The Calculated Use Of Violence...
Terrorism is defined as the calculated use of violence against civilians in order to attain goals that are
political or religious or ideological in nature. History shows, furthermore, that terrorism was by no
means the exclusive domain of the revolutionary left and that it had been exercised at least as often by
the extreme right fascist, or proto fascist movements (Laqueur 10). Terrorism dates back as far as we
can remember, but it has been so spread throughout history and not always active that the idea was
frequently ignored. As it pops up again and again throughout history people have a, tendency to regard
it as a new phenomenon (Laqueur 7), because it would be so inactive for long periods of time. The
Taliban rose up from Mujahedeen groups that came from villages in southern Qandahar and refugee
camps in Pakistan. Hit operations, military ambushes, bombings, secret kidnappings, and terrorism
became a routine part of some Mujahedeen groups (Nojumi 26). These tactics eventually led to the
Taliban taking control of the Afghan government. The political rise of the Taliban was regarded as a
phenomenon. While in control the Taliban created a Transit Treaty between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Under this treaty an illegal smuggling network was established. This illegal network created an
artificial system that could never establish a stable national economy. The poor economic condition of

My Experience With The Hip Hop Culture
PART ONE A When reflecting on my experiences and knowledge of popular culture, I arrived with a
number of remarkable questions and concerns:
Why do I care so much about the lives of celebrities? (Why do I Keep Up With the Kardashians ?) Do
I want to be like the celebrities I glorify? Is my desired profession for working in the film industry
driven by popular culture eminence? How influential or brainwashing has popular culture been a
factor in my lifestyle? Is it a good or bad influence? Does popular culture have an effect on my self
esteem? Has popular culture prematurely exposed me to social vices? (Sex? Drugs? Violence?) Why
do I identify with the hip hop culture? What is the message that I am given when listening to hip hop
music? What does my taste in music say about me? Am I defined by society due to popular culture
stereotypes? Is my judgment or perception on beauty along with different races, gender, and
sexualities skewed by popular culture standards and stereotypes? What benefit or significance do I
receive from consuming popular culture news? Does popular culture offer me any more than just
material to fill my time with frivolous talk and gossip? How much time am I consuming because of
popular culture? Why do I feel out the loop if I m not immersed in the latest trends? How am I

Essay on Education Beyond Undergraduate
Education Beyond Undergraduate
Graduate or professional education is an often debated topic for a large number of University seniors.
Regardless of the undergraduate degree many students must decide whether to enter the job market or
go to school for another couple of years. When these students are faced with this decision it is
important to look at what they consider. Is it job satisfaction, future pay, or the mere fact that they
want to spend a few more years in college? These issues are all very important to students in very
different manners. An important reason students consider continuing their education beyond their
undergraduate degree is job satisfaction. Through my marketing classes, I have learned that my ...

There are a number of exceptions. The students who make excellent grades are often offered
scholarships in graduate school. But, most of these students did not have to pay for their
undergraduate education for the same reason they will not have to pay for their graduate education.
There are those students who pay their way through college making average grades and decide that
they want to attend graduate school. They apply for scholarships, but usually do not receive them.
Then they are forced to work their way through graduate school and pay the government back when
they begin their profession. Maybe the government should make an exception or discount for students
who start and finish a graduate education. As a student who has been free from working through
college thanks to the generosity of my parents, I feel that graduate school is the place for me. For the
first time, I will have to work to pay for school and therefore, I feel that I will appreciate it more. The
third thing that I believe all college students consider when trying to decide whether to pursue an
education beyond their undergraduate degree is whether or not they are ready to leave college. If a
student has had an enjoyable college experience and made a lot of friends, I don t think they would be
interested in entering the work force if they have the opportunity to remain in college for a couple
more years. Granted, the graduate education is harder, but they still get to

Maaccuracies In The Mummy
The Mummy For decades, several major Hollywood movies have tried to capture the essence of what
they imagine an archaeologist does and believes. Although not many have gotten it right there are
some movies that really capture the heart of an archaeologist. One excellent example is The Mummy

Touched by fading moonlight, the girl looked pale as a ghost, distressed and sorrowful. Great drops

The Disconnection By Alice Walker
In Everyday Use Historical Criticisms explores the disconnection that people can sometimes have
depending on their education. Alice Walker successfully shows the disconnection by comparing two
ends of the spectrum of generation. Taking the historical context it plays a major role in the way this
short story is viewed. It was a time where people of color had a different and difficult experience
getting an education. When the narrator was talking about having an education it was important
because she wanted to be on a television show her success and how far she went. However Dee see s
her mother and Maggie differently as if they don t know how to appreciate heritage as an art. For

As the story progressed it led to Dee fighting for the quilts since she did not want Maggie to have
them because she was just going to use it as an everyday item instead of valuing it as art. Can I have
these old quilts? I heard something fall in the kitchen, and a minute later the kitchen door slammed.
Why don t you take one of the others? No, said Wangero (Dee) I don t want those (Walker 292). Dee
wanted the quilts to have them hanging on the wall at her house to show her heritage and her culture.
In that short section it showed the difference of wanting to use the quilt as an everyday item as some
form of art to make a statement of showing how proud she was her heritage during a time where
colored people were oppressed. In the end of the story when Dee leaves after the argument and has a
dramatic exit while, her mother and Maggie just sit outside until bedtime, which showed the
difference of the older generation and new. On one side there is a passive approach and then there is
the new generation which is demonstrated as being a fighter, and fighting for what you believe until
you get what you want or at least try. One main focus in this story is heritage and the different value is

After an investigation by the US International Trade Commission, in 1983 President Reagan imposed
a 45% tariff on imported bikes and bikes over 700 cc engine capacity. The new management
deliberately exploited the past appeal of their big machines, building motorcycles that purposely
adopted the look and feel of their earlier models. Quality increased, technical improvements were
made, and buyers returned. Harley Davidson once again became the sales leader in the heavyweight
(over 750 cc) market. During its period of peak demand, the company expanded the number of
dealerships throughout the country. At the same time, its current dealers typically had waiting lists that
extended up to a year for some of the most popular models. In August 2009, Harley Davidson
announced plans to enter the market in India. The company established a subsidiary near Delhi, and
began the process of seeking dealers.[6] The Motorcycle Industry Motorcycles are one of the most
affordable forms of transportation and one of the most common types of motor vehicle. There are

Reggae Music Research Paper
The History of a Legacy
What is reggae music? Reggae music is a type of music that consists of different genres of music such
as blues and calypso. Reggae music also consists of different rhythms such as different accents on
different beats of the music. Say for instance you are playing in a four/four time measure. The natural
beat for a drummer playing in this type of particular time measure would be for him to hit his high hat
on all 4 beats, his bass foot pedal on one and three, and his snare on two and four. When playing
reggae this particular pattern differs for the drummer. When playing reggae the drummer has more
room to play around with the beat. In this particular setting the drummer would continue to hit the hi
hat on all four beats of the four measure. He would then start the measure of music by hitting his bass

Reggae music consists of a drum set, bongos, bass guitar, electric guitar, and so much more. A basic
drum set for reggae music consists of a snare drum, a hi hat, a floor tom, a middle tom, and a high

the rhythm throughout the performance of music. Bongos are a lot like the toms of a drum set, but
differ as far as the material that is used to create the distinct sound of these two instruments. Toms of a
drum set consist of man made material, whereas bongos consist of drumheads that are made from an
animals skin. Bongos also are an advocate to the rhythmic part of reggae music. The bass guitar is the

the exception of the pitch. A bass guitar has a deep bellowing kind of a pitch, whereas an electric

The Future Of The American City Essay
The city is a vital, breathing, and often vibrant life force to its metropolitan area, region, state, and
country. Cities, within the United States function typically as the jobs, cultural, and educational
centers of their region. They tend to be more diverse than their surrounding communities, and they
often face sets of problems that the suburbs and rural areas do not deal with. Some of the main issues
that will face and shape cities over the next ten years include gentrification, environmental
sustainability, and immigration. The way in which each of these issues is addressed will greatly impact
the future of the American city.
One of the most important concepts to understand about cities and neighborhoods is that they are ever
changing. Economics and demographic trends tend to shift dramatically over the decades. In coastal
cities, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Washington, DC, as well as many Sunbelt
cities this has led to the rapid gentrification of poor urban communities. Other cities throughout the
nation s interior also experience gentrification, but typically at a slower rate. While many argue that
gentrification is detrimental, as it often displaces residences who live in the upcoming communities,
due to rising rents and house prices, the reality is much less clear cut. On one hand residents may
unfortunately be displaced, but on the other hand much needed improvements often make their way to
the neighborhood. In the next ten years, I believe

The Scarcity Of Fossil Fuels
The purpose of this paper is to provide an environmental scan and explore issues pertaining to the
scarcity of fossil fuels. It will briefly explore the transition from historical energy sources to the
primary use fossil fuels. Why is this a dangerous global issue? What are the effects of said issue as it
pertains to the social, economic, and political landscapes? It will also assert how Abraham Maslow s
Hierarchy of Needs (1943) is impacted by fossil fuel depletion. Finally, some recommendations will
be offered regarding fossil fuels and future exploration, implementation, and utilization of more
renewable energy resources.

As technologies advanced and more inventions became widely available, societies began to move
away from use of those sources and towards fossil fuels for a variety of reasons. In England, for
example. even prior to the Industrial Revolution, demand was so great and coal so much more
efficient than traditional energy sources, it quickly replaced the use of biomass (wood) as the primary
energy source (Allen, 2012). In addition, building upon what was already known about combustion
energy and coupling that with new discoveries such as the steam engine, fossil fuels were a ticket
towards progress all over the world (Mumford, 1935, p. 156). As these processes were streamlined,
the 18th century saw a huge growth in transportation initiatives, urbanization and population, and the
physiological needs of food, water, and shelter, all on the bottom of Maslow s pyramid (1943), were
met with greater ease. An example of this growth can be found in the United States westward
expansion. The United States, still a relatively young independent country in the 19th century, would
not have experienced such swift westward development without the steam engine. Although groups of
people attempted to take advantage of available land out West, it was not until the first coal powered
transcontinental railroads were established that the largest

The Olympics Between Dark Millennium And The Iron Age
Introduction
In the past one hundred years, a large number of Bronze Age seal have continuously unearthed in the
Gulf region. Through the excavation and research of these finds, archaeologists have found that these
seals can reflect the economic, political and cultural development of the Gulf states in the Bronze Age.
The Bronze Age is the time between Dark Millennium and the Iron Age, c. 3200 1300 BC, which, in
archaeology, are usually divided into four periods:
1) Late Bronze Age (1600 1300 BC)
2) Wadi Suq (2000 1600 BC)
3) Umm al Nar (2500 2000 BC)
4) Hafit (3200 2500 BC)

In ancient times, the convenience of geography made communication possible which is undeniable,
however, there are different opinions on the direction, intensity and breadth of the exchange.
Examples of long distance exchange in prehistory (Reade, 2008): Copal beads; Goat bones and Clove
head.
The most significant exchange is economy including local trade and interregional trade. As Reade
(2008) suggested above that the importance of the overland trade between east and west was equal to
the maritime trade via Persian Gulf, nonetheless ships had dozens of advantages over caravan. While
the most widely accepted view is the seafaring trade route is more important, especially for the trade
exchange between Mesopotamia and Indus via Bahrain ().
From a political point of view, after comparing Dilmun seals and the contemporary royal cap of
Mesopotamia, Højlund (2000) believe that the seal imitated the shape of the royal cap, and thereby it
was endowed with the power of king and the authority of gods. Conversely, some other researches
states that, as an example of Dilmun society, as a means of organizing trade and social management,
seals are used by both individuals and officials (Larsen, 2010).

rapidly changing environment (Goetz Vowles, 2009). At the time, the nominally regulated air
transporting environment permitted the airlines to begin services on any desired route, giving them a
great deal of liberty in the market. Although things were going well for those involved in the aviation
industry, several factors began to have a negative impact on the industry. For instance, as the
competition started to escalate, airlines began to take a competitive stance against one another,
fighting for their share of the market. Moreover, the World Trade Center tragedy in 2001 had an
adverse impact on the entire airline industry (Coy, 2005). Adding to the predicament, the recent
financial crisis of 2008 and the current inflation in fuel prices have caused the US airline industry to
regroup the fleet formation, making it the most competitive airline industry in the world (Ryerson
Kim, 2014). The whole airline industry now found itself struggling to survive.
In order to provide the best quality of the air transport services while competing against other airlines
in the US and other countries, the airlines had to develop a variety of strategies. The fleet planning is a
significant part of airlines survival strategies designed to optimize the flight operation that maximizes
the revenue. Therefore, when an airline fleet is informed by an optimized fleet planning

Allegany History Week And Wellsville Civil War Reenactment
Seeing Allegany County History
Report on the events I had visited during the last days of the Allegany History Week and Wellsville
Civil War Reenactment
During the weekend of September 24th 25, 2016, I had attended some of the events involved with
Allegany History Week and the Civil War Reenactment in Wellsville. On Saturday, I visited the
historical display room in Howe Library, in Wellsville, and visited the Civil War Reenactment in
Wellsville s Island Park. On Sunday, I went to see the Voices of the Past event at the Palmer Opera
House in Cuba. This will be a report of what I had seen in these events.
On Saturday morning, I went to Howe Library in Wellsville, to see its historical display. The display
room featured various tables holding displays of the history of various towns, displays of history
projects by young residents, and various historical antiques. The layout consisted of various isles
formed by the placement of objects and stands. Four lanes ran perpendicular to the four room walls,
forming a walking square, which was met on the other side with a rough square of displays. This
internal square of displays had points on which to enter an internal space lined with more displays on
the inside.
Not far from the entrance, there was the display of the replicas of Hamilton Burr Dueling Pistols. The
original pistols had belonged to John Barker Church, and had been kept by the Church family in their
Belvidere mansion for generations, until economic hardships forced

Satire In The Importance Of Being Ernest
It s tone is that of satire, but of a satire which, for lack of a moral point of view, has lost its sting
(Edouard Roditi)
To what extent do you agree with this response to the play?
By Molly Campbell
With the definition of a satire being, the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and
criticize people s stupidity , it is ludicrous to even propose that The Importance of Being Earnest is
anything other than a satirical play, as the characters relishing in the upper class of the Victorian
period unknowingly mock their own habits acquired to them due to the luxury they are spoilt with.
Despite this, it is evident that the use of satire is feckless and lacks a moral point of view, in contrast
with the moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous to Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Victorian comedies consisted mostly of high
and low comedy and of dirty or vulgar jokes, dirty gestures, and sex . Hence, it is possible to suggest
that contradictory to Edouard Roditi s interpretation, the Importance of Being Earnest carries a moral
point of view in the fact it does not exploit sex or sexual preferences to effectuate drollery; Wilde
provokes laughter through mistaken identities and the consequences of bunburying perhaps to allude
that his opinions it that sexuality is not a laughing matter. Providing this interpretation is true, it is
acceptable to assume that the reasoning behind the negative criticisms the drama received when first
written were due to the fact critics felt appalled that a piece of writing could prove successful without
it consisting of any sexual nature and hence deemed The Importance of Being Earnest as, dull in
comparison to other plays read over the years . Howbeit, some critics state that the word earnest
became a code word for homosexual, as in: Is he earnest? , in the same way that Is he so? and Is he
musical? were also employed , suggesting that The Importance of Being Earnest is an expression of
Wilde s hatred for marriage and his fondness of homosexuality as he praises the idea of being Earnest

Tao Te Ching Essay
Tao Te Ching Helps Us to Rethink the World, the Governance and the Meaning of Power
Have you ever think that managing a country is like cooking a little fish. In Tao Te Ching, Lao tzu
states that Governing a large country is like frying a small fish . Lao tzu is a famous philosopher in the
history of China. He is the founder of Taoism and the author of Tao Te Ching. Lao tzu was a high
official of the Chinese empire, who left his work and his country in dismay due to the Chou royal s
decline and his philosophy. The philosophy of Lao tzu through the Tao Te Ching lie in natural,
balance, merge, integration of nature and human, as well as all creature s relations. Lao tzu thinks man
and nature create each other in the Tao . Man cultivates himself as cultivating the nature. Man and
nature are united in essence. Therefore, Lao tzu states that They both do no harm to one another, So

He teaches people to see the relativity of things. In Tao Te Ching, Lao tzu states that When people see
some things as beautiful, other things become ugly. When people see some things as good, other
things become bad . If we can use Lao tzu s philosophy to rethink the world, we will realize that we
should not call one good and the other bad because everything is interdependent. Nor do good or bad
make any sense when separated from one another. Also, when we think some things are better than
others, we must remember that we are able to judge something only because we can compare them. In
the other word, the bad is like the mirror of the good. That s why Lao tzu states chapter two in Tao Te
Ching. Lao tzu wants us to change the way we see things. Good or bad, we should learn to appreciate
everything around us. Using paradox are the persuasive techniques; Lao tzu overthrows the traditional
thoughts about good and bad and helps us to enjoy everything in the

The Importance Of Love For Family
The ideal choice would always to be able to have both, but like the famous saying goes, you can t
have cake and eat it too . Love is something that will be attained by those close to you, such as
relatives and significant others, but respect is something that can be earned by all. To have love
without respect, rather, is possessive and unhealthy. In addition, love can also push people act and
behave differently than they would normally. Through life, many will encounter many different people
and form many different bonds. However, only few will grow to truly love all the people they meet
within their lifetime. Of course, one would believe that love for family members and relatives will be
unconditional, and selfless. Moreover, if one is to look back the relationships that is between those
family members, there is a big realization. These particular relationships that are formed, especially
with the elder generations, we have an undeniable respect and admiration for them. This may have not
been the initial purpose but is still an effect of establishing boundaries. Boundaries are essential for
any relationship that one may have with any other individual. A line that shall not be crossed, if you
will. Thus, whether it is a parent, an aunt, or any loved one, one will know how far to go with that said
individual. On the same account, respect can be applied to any relationship, not just the personal
relationships such as the ones named above. You will can get more with respect

Communication And Language In Babel
Babel, 2006, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu is a mosaic film about an accident in Morocco
which connects four groups of people on three different continents. The word Babel is derived from
the biblical story of the Tower of Babel and basically comes down to one common language being
split into multiple languages causing a confusion in speech (Fairchild, 2017). According to Iñárritu,
Babel is about how everyday lives are affected by walls, miscommunication and barriers (Michael,
2014). However, by not directly referencing the bible anywhere in the film, there is a sense of
ambiguity, giving the audience the space to come to their own conclusion about what the messages of
the film are. This paper will be looking at the themes of communication, prejudice and western
superiority and the idea that humans have more in common than we realise. These ideas are helped
along by film language elements such as nonlinear narrative, cinematography techniques such as
camera angles and close ups and editing techniques such as parallel editing and match cuts.
Communication or lack thereof often leading to confusion is a major theme raised in the film Babel
and is delivered through elements such as narrative, parallel editing and repetition. Not only do the
characters suffer from the inability to communicate due to their various language barriers but so too do
the audience. The filmmakers on various occasions in particular with the character Chieko have
refrained from using

Speech-Language Pathology Research Paper
A Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is a specialist who evaluates and treats patients or students with
speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages,
according to MedicineNet (MedicineNet). People of all ages can struggle with speaking whether it be
articulating letters, stuttering or dyslexia. It is easiest to help correct these challenges at a younger age,
but not impossible when you are older. Regardless of the age or the reason behind the treatment, the
most important part is that the individual receives the therapy that is needed to help them reach their
optimum ability in communication and speaking.
Before starting this project, I didn t know very much about Speech Language Pathology. I ... Show

While with Ms. Smith, I was able to learn more about the difference between Medical Speech
Language Pathology and School Speech Language Pathology. One of the major differences was the
schooling you have to go through to become each type of pathologist. In a school, they require a
masters to pass the national test, and a teaching certificate, where as a medical SLP s need a masters to
pass the national test, and a certificate of clinician competence. Another difference is what each type
of pathology pays. A school pathologist starts at around $40,000 a year with a scheduled step raise
yearly of between $2,500 to $3,000. Medical SLP s start out at around $10,000 more than in a school
and can increase significantly more over time. According to Learn.org, the highest mean salary
someone can expect to receive in a hospital/laboratory setting is about $105,680 as of 2015
(Learn.org). One question I was eager to learn more about was how exactly does an SLP help
children? While researching this question, I came across a video that explains exactly how it helps
children. Speech Language Pathology can help with children s communication skills. It allows them to
better understand what is being said to them and how to express themselves to others. It encourages
them to talk with others more, and improves reading and writing skills. Communication can impact a
child s social skills and can be an area kids may struggle. With some help with their speech, they can
share a common focus with another person, play with others and share toys, understand feelings, and
make friends. Overall, Speech Language Pathology helps them interact better with people around
them and makes them feel more comfortable in a classroom (ASHA). One last thing that I was able to
come to a conclusion on was the common terminology used as a Speech Language Pathologist. Like

How Did The Shang Dynasty Influence Early Chinese Society
Early Chinese society was ruled by different dynasties. The dynastic rule was an important part of the
culture and its development. The rule was passed on from father to son, making the dynasty ruled by a
family. Xia Dynasty The Xia dynasty was the first historically known dynasty. It ruled China from
2200 1750 B.C.E. by Yu and his son (Judge and Langdon, 2016).The Xia dynasty controlled/ruled
many of the cities and towns along side of China s yellow river. They created many palaces, tombs
and paved the roads of China. The Xia dynasty is responsible for creating the early bronze tools and
weapons. Through scholarly arguments it is believed that the Xia dynasty was a mythological dynasty
that never existed. They ruled China up until they were overthrown by the Shang dynasty (Judge and
Langdon, 2016). Shang Dynasty The Shang dynasty were the first to perfect the use of the Xia bronze
tools and weapons. They divided the Chinese society into a stratified society that was much like a war
system. The most important people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

He used many things to punish those who went against his dynastic rule, such as branding or burying
offenders alive (Judge and Langdon, 2016). His strict laws were so extreme and alienated the people
of China, that he eventually became very paranoid. Because of his obsession with death, the first
emperor sought the help of oracles and magicians to try and find formulas for eternal life and many

Comparing My Fair Lady And Miss Congeniality
In the world, there seems to be two levels of conflict. One conflict involves having a common war
shared among multiple individuals, and the other incorporates more personal issues. For instance,
many women across the globe feel inferior to men; however, some feel apt to change the way things
are or how they adapt to the situation. Some women are satisfied with how their lives are, but there are
some that will go the extra mile to see some fresh, new adjustments. In My Fair Lady and Miss
Congeniality, there seems to be evidence of intertextual elements intertwined within both films
through the aspects of character motives, conflicts, and setting. The characters of both films are
revealed by their words and actions. The characters Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins from
My Fair Lady seem to have obvious comparisons to Gracie Hart and Victor Melling from Miss
Congeniality. When looking at Eliza and Gracie, not only do they display the protagonist archetype,
but they also show how someone not so ladylike can be transformed into one of nature s most
beautiful creatures a lady. However, becoming a lady was a long, winding road with many bumps in
the way, yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Alcohol Advertisements
Many entrepreneur s objectives are to grab the people s attention to focus on their product or
understand the reasoning why they promote it in that way. People get different messages throughout
the advertisement that is promoted. These people tend to go after what society goes after. If the
product is not on trend, then it must have a creative slogan for the society, so they have something to
focus. This is all based on the ethos, pathos, and logos that the creators focused on, so their message
could be reached out. As an example, the first advertisement of Budweiser consists of animals. Ethos
represents credibility or an ethical appeal which involves persuasion by the character involved, ( ).
The purpose of this advertisement is to buy beer with a companion. These entrepreneurs made their
clip specifically for those who are into drinking beer. Since a small scene concluded of a celebratory
for the recovery of a missing dog, teens have a higher risk of being tempted into wanting to drink.
This can mislead to a negative effect on alcohol advertisements which many teenagers are more eager
to do. Then these entrepreneurs assure themselves that it is believable for things to get uncontrolled as
well as following along with the pathos. It has a way of convincing people with an argument drawn
out through an emotional response ( ). Humans fall in love with animals while others don t.
Throughout this mind process, these entrepreneurs assisted themselves with statistics

William Blake Exaggeration
William Blake and William Wordsworth both write about London in their poems. Composed Upon
Westminster bridge and London both portray London differently during the industrial revolution.
Blake writes about the negative aspects of London while Wordsworth on the other hand writes about
the positive aspects of London. Although these poems portray London differently, they do so by the
use of similar methods. The methods they use to portray London are exaggeration, use of the five
senses, and personification.
Both William Blake and William Wordsworth use exaggeration to describe London during the
industrial revolution. In London , William blake uses exaggeration to illustrate the negative aspects of
London during the industrial revolution. On the other hand, Wordsworth uses exaggeration in his
poem to illustrate the positive aspects of London during the industrial revolution to illustrate the
negative aspects of London blake uses exaggeration in lines eleven through twelve in his poem; And
the hapless soldier s sigh runs in blood down palace walls (11 12). In this line William Blake is
exaggerating the soldier s sigh because it didn t really run in blood down the palace walls. In order
illustrate the positive aspects of London during industrial revolution; wordsworth uses exaggeration in
the opening line of his poem. Earth has not anything to show more fair (1). In this line blake uses
exaggeration to illustrate how captivated he is at the sunrise.
This proves my point because through the use of exaggeration William Blake and William
Wordsworth were able to show london in two different perspectives.
Blake uses the five senses to help the reader picture how filthy London is in his poem.
Wordsworth on the other hand, uses the five senses to help the reader picture how beautiful London is
in his poem. In order to help his audience comprehend how filthy london is, william blake uses some
of the five senses. He illustrates this well through the use of hearing. A strong example of this can be
found in line thirteen: But most, through midnight streets I hear (13). Sound really makes a difference
in our lives and he uses that to paint a clearer picture of how he perceives London. William
Wordsworth uses the

  • 2. Rakas V. Jerome Case Study Case Brief: Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978) Facts After being told the details of a supposed getaway car from a robbery, the police saw the car and began to drive after it (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). The officers then took off after the car to conduct a search passed on probable cause. After completing the search the officers found a shot gun and shells within the car (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). The owner of the vehicle had no correlations to the robbery, so the passengers took responsibility of the gun and ammo (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Upon their court date, the men that were incarcerated decided they wanted to motion to suppress the gun. However due to a lack of standing, the motion to suppress was denied (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Procedural History The petitioners wanted the Appellate Court of Illinois to reconsider the decision of convicting them with armed robbery (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Unfortunately, the courts did not change their mind on the conviction and denied to the suppression of the gun and ammo because the petitioners had no accurate reasoning as to why the search ... Many products that are released for global markets require that user assistance help and documentation be translated in multiple languages for specific target locales. This paper presents the process of optimizing user assistance help content for translation in the following two categories: writing suggestions and technical considerations. Writing suggestions 1. Use a style guide. A style guide defines the grammar, syntax and tone translators should use to facilitate a higher quality of translation and convey the source content accurately. 2. Develop a terminology glossary. A glossary should provide a comprehensive set of terminology that includes product names, trademarked terms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simplify the written language. To make documents clear and easy to translate, keep headlines and sub headlines parallel. Use the same term to mean the same thing throughout the documentation. This can be implemented through the utilization of a source style guide and glossary. 4. Include universal units of measure. Different countries use different units of measure. Lack of clearly defined units of measure can cause significant confusion and costly errors. Therefore, it is important to include both metric and imperial measurements in the documentation. 5. Include international phone and date formats. Because phone numbers and date formats vary from region to region, these formats should be displayed correctly in the source and translated copies of documentation. For example, in the U.S., phone numbers are expressed as (425) 517 2577. However, international customers also need to know the country code, which for the US is +1. Thus, displaying the phone number as +1 425.517.2577 helps international customers. Likewise, many countries use dd/mm/yyyy. To avoid confusion, it is necessary to indicate clearly which date format is used or to spell out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

World War Two And Its Effect On The World World War Two World War Two began in 1939 and it when for six year, World War Two lasted until both the Germans and the Japanese had surrendered in 1945, which was six years after it began. It began in September 1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany had invaded Poland. January 1933 Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and he immediately he secretly built up Germany s army and weapons. In 1934 he made the size of the army bigger and he began to build warships and he created a German air force. Britain and France were aware of Germany preparing for war but they were concerned about the rise of Communism and they thought that if Germany was stronger, it might prevent the spread of Communism. In 1936 German troops entered Rhineland, they weren t very strong at this point and they couldn t of been defeated easily by France or England but neither of them were prepared for war. Germany s next step was to take back the land that was originally theirs and in March 1938 German troops moved into Austria, the Austrian leader was forced to hold a vote to see if Austria wanted to be apart of Germany. • 5. Why I Am My Freedom At The Time Is Truly Freedom, Or... Millions of choices ripple through our lives daily bringing overwhelming possibilities to endless paths. Each of these trifling choices brings us to who we are today. But, it only takes one minimal choice to halt our future and steer us spiraling in a different direction. It s with this ONE choice that years later led me to What Ifs? and regrets, and made me question whether my freedom at the time was truly freedom, or constraint. From a very young age, I was raised around horses. Through generations of Andersons riding was a given, a family trait, however, riding was never that important to me. I was taught to ride when I was just six years old and started competing when I was ten. I spent countless afternoons training after school, trotting and cantering around the horse track or down riding trails. For a while riding, was liberating, a release from the outside world, but as I turned fourteen riding became something that only squandered my free time. For months I made excuses, or lied about going to the stables. I did not know how to tell my Mom that I no longer shared her love for riding, it meant too much to her, to my family, but I was sick of spending my free time doing something I no longer enjoyed. Eventually my Mom caught on to my tricks, yet her response was unexpected. She was calm and collected and allowed me to quit on a whim. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Stop And Frisk Parayno, Jay Mard English 105 Professor Zaragoza December 11, 2016 Stop and Frisk Stop and frisk is a tactic designed for reducing crime by allowing police officers to stop and search individuals that may seem suspicious. This law allows police officers to search individuals only if they have reasonable suspicion that a crime might occur or if the suspect is carrying anything illegal or dangerous. Between the years of 2002 and 2016, there have been 5 million stop and streets interrogations, and nine out of 10 individuals who were stopped have been completely innocent ( Stop and Frisk Data ). With that being said, stop and frisk should not continue to be a policing tactic because it is ineffective, it gives too much power to police officers, and promotes racial profiling. One misconception that many believe is that the stop and frisk program brings in many criminals or even those that have potential; however, many stop and frisk incidents were unsuccessful, making the tactic ineffective. According to the NYPD s own report, over 100,000 people were stopped every year since 2002 and every year above 77% were innocent ( Stop and Frisk Data ). In an interview conducted by Amy Goodman for Democracy Now, she interviews a NYPD officer named Adhyl Polanco ( NYPD Officer Risks ). Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation Hypothetical Misinterpretation Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism for allowing misinterpretations to be deemed as valid could mean options. However, one finds when reading Two Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in Literature that these criticisms are effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers. These could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be judged on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple correct interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive. To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations. • 11. Analysis Of Dante s Inferno Dante s Divine Comedy is a work that has lasted many generations, and has greatly contributed to even our own visualization of the afterlife. It is separated into three parts with the most striking section of the work being the Inferno. In Inferno, the character Dante travels through hell, and identifies the sins and consequent punishment of those who are damned. However, Inferno is not a simple report of an event, but also includes several literary devices that convey grander and more significant themes of sin, punishment, and the afterlife. These devices Dante uses in his work are, but not limited to, symbolism, allegory, allusion, and a special kind of irony called contrapasso, which will be discussed in this essay. Dante also arranges ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when many similar allusions appear in what seems to be a deliberate order, it becomes noticeable that the author wanted to convey a topic or argument in his or her writing without explicitly saying so. But, why do authors choose to hide their ideas behind recurring symbols and allusions? They usually do this because it is easier for them to demonstrate their beliefs through images and symbols than words. Additionally, creating a text that has multiple layers of meaning also enriches the work, and this is underlined by The Divine Comedy s long standing popularity. (Encyclopedia Britannica) The Divine Comedy is considered to be an allegorical work because there are many proposed theories for allegories throughout the story, and even some that encompass the entire work. Additionally, because of its religious subject matter, many scholars study The Divine Comedy as they would a religious work. For many, this entails interpreting the text in both a literal and figurative sense (Encyclopedia Britannica). One of the most popular and debated events is in Canto IX when the characters Dante and Virgil arrive at the gates to the city of Dis. Beyond the locked gates, in the city, are the remaining circles of Hell the characters need to travel through. However, they are spotted by three furies (some kind of beasts in hell), and are ... For Yvon Chouinard Patagonia is a business experiment, one of his goals is to run the company so it s here 100 years from now and always makes the best quality products. Yet he finds that concern for quality and sustainability doesn t pose a conflict with running a highly successful business. Every time we do the right thing, our profits go up (Chouinard, 2005). • 13. Aristotle s Virtue Ethics Ethics in Engineer, Is it Virtuous? Aristotle developed a type of ethics that many use throughout the world, virtue ethics. Virtue ethics can be defined as an act that is right if, and only if, a virtuous person performs it for the right reason. That begs the question, What is a virtuous person? A virtuous person is someone who conforms to moral and ethical principles. For the sake of argument, morality is the difference between right and wrong. I will discuss Aristotle s virtue ethics, how they apply to engineering, and how Dr. Harris s claims differ from those of Aristotle. Aristotle laid out three points in his theory of virtue ethics: eudaimonia, arête, and telos. First, eudaimonia is achieving ultimate happiness within oneself. In Aristotle s mind, eudaimonia means you have lived a good life and you are using reason to help feed the soul. The second point in his theory is arête or virtue. Aristotle describes arête as becoming the ultimate of ones kind. According to Aristotle, humans should strive every day to be the best we can be and to live the good life. Finally, telos is said by Aristotle to be the final cause or end. All of us are living our lives here on earth and take different paths along the way. One component of our lives is the same no matter our culture, religion, or ethnicity and that is death. The way we live our lives and seek that final cause is what Aristotle believes is important. Terrorism is defined as the calculated use of violence against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature. History shows, furthermore, that terrorism was by no means the exclusive domain of the revolutionary left and that it had been exercised at least as often by the extreme right fascist, or proto fascist movements (Laqueur 10). Terrorism dates back as far as we can remember, but it has been so spread throughout history and not always active that the idea was frequently ignored. As it pops up again and again throughout history people have a, tendency to regard it as a new phenomenon (Laqueur 7), because it would be so inactive for long periods of time. The Taliban rose up from Mujahedeen groups that came from villages in southern Qandahar and refugee camps in Pakistan. Hit operations, military ambushes, bombings, secret kidnappings, and terrorism became a routine part of some Mujahedeen groups (Nojumi 26). These tactics eventually led to the Taliban taking control of the Afghan government. The political rise of the Taliban was regarded as a phenomenon. Evelyn was incredibly careful with what she did because she knew that the artifacts they found were of great value for the people of the dessert that protected Hamunaptra, but that didn t stop Evelyn and her team from opening up the sarcophagus and studying the mummy that was in it. Just like what happened to the native Americans, archaeologist were prohibited to dig up native ancestors because of their families who felt like it was disrespecting the dead and that is why they came up with the American Graves Protection and Repatriation ... The sky was painfully dark and motionless. Except for the faint light from the moon, everything seems lifeless. In a dark room, there was a girl sitting up on the bed, leaning on the wall beside her. She was looking out the window. Through the window, the girl can see the sky and the top of some buildings, however, nothing special or attractive. Great drops fell from her eyes; the heavy rain clouds in her mind let loose their turbulent nature. No, said Wangero (Dee) I don t want those (Walker 292). Dee wanted the quilts to have them hanging on the wall at her house to show her heritage and her culture. In that short section it showed the difference of wanting to use the quilt as an everyday item as some form of art to make a statement of showing how proud she was her heritage during a time where colored people were oppressed. In the end of the story when Dee leaves after the argument and has a dramatic exit while, her mother and Maggie just sit outside until bedtime, which showed the difference of the older generation and new. On one side there is a passive approach and then there is the new generation which is demonstrated as being a fighter, and fighting for what you believe until you get what you want or at least try. • 29. The Future Of The American City Essay The city is a vital, breathing, and often vibrant life force to its metropolitan area, region, state, and country. Cities, within the United States function typically as the jobs, cultural, and educational centers of their region. They tend to be more diverse than their surrounding communities, and they often face sets of problems that the suburbs and rural areas do not deal with. Some of the main issues that will face and shape cities over the next ten years include gentrification, environmental sustainability, and immigration. The way in which each of these issues is addressed will greatly impact the future of the American city. One of the most important concepts to understand about cities and neighborhoods is that they are ever changing. Economics and demographic trends tend to shift dramatically over the decades. In coastal cities, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Washington, DC, as well as many Sunbelt cities this has led to the rapid gentrification of poor urban communities. Other cities throughout the nation s interior also experience gentrification, but typically at a slower rate. While many argue that gentrification is detrimental, as it often displaces residences who live in the upcoming communities, due to rising rents and house prices, the reality is much less clear cut. On one hand residents may unfortunately be displaced, but on the other hand much needed improvements often make their way to the neighborhood. In the next ten years, I believe ... As technologies advanced and more inventions became widely available, societies began to move away from use of those sources and towards fossil fuels for a variety of reasons. In England, for example. even prior to the Industrial Revolution, demand was so great and coal so much more efficient than traditional energy sources, it quickly replaced the use of biomass (wood) as the primary energy source (Allen, 2012). In addition, building upon what was already known about combustion energy and coupling that with new discoveries such as the steam engine, fossil fuels were a ticket towards progress all over the world (Mumford, 1935, p. 156). As these processes were streamlined, the 18th century saw a huge growth in transportation initiatives, urbanization and population, and the physiological needs of food, water, and shelter, all on the bottom of Maslow s pyramid (1943), were met with greater ease. An example of this growth can be found in the United States westward expansion. The United States, still a relatively young independent country in the 19th century, would not have experienced such swift westward development without the steam engine. For instance, as the competition started to escalate, airlines began to take a competitive stance against one another, fighting for their share of the market. Moreover, the World Trade Center tragedy in 2001 had an adverse impact on the entire airline industry (Coy, 2005). Adding to the predicament, the recent financial crisis of 2008 and the current inflation in fuel prices have caused the US airline industry to regroup the fleet formation, making it the most competitive airline industry in the world (Ryerson Kim, 2014). The whole airline industry now found itself struggling to survive. In order to provide the best quality of the air transport services while competing against other airlines in the US and other countries, the airlines had to develop a variety of strategies. The fleet planning is a significant part of airlines survival strategies designed to optimize the flight operation that maximizes the revenue. Therefore, when an airline fleet is informed by an optimized fleet planning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allegany History Week And Wellsville Civil War Reenactment Seeing Allegany County History Report on the events I had visited during the last days of the Allegany History Week and Wellsville Civil War Reenactment During the weekend of September 24th 25, 2016, I had attended some of the events involved with Allegany History Week and the Civil War Reenactment in Wellsville. On Saturday, I visited the historical display room in Howe Library, in Wellsville, and visited the Civil War Reenactment in Wellsville s Island Park. On Sunday, I went to see the Voices of the Past event at the Palmer Opera House in Cuba. This will be a report of what I had seen in these events. On Saturday morning, I went to Howe Library in Wellsville, to see its historical display. The display room featured various tables holding displays of the history of various towns, displays of history projects by young residents, and various historical antiques. The layout consisted of various isles formed by the placement of objects and stands. Four lanes ran perpendicular to the four room walls, forming a walking square, which was met on the other side with a rough square of displays. This internal square of displays had points on which to enter an internal space lined with more displays on the inside. Not far from the entrance, there was the display of the replicas of Hamilton Burr Dueling Pistols. The original pistols had belonged to John Barker Church, and had been kept by the Church family in their Belvidere mansion for generations, until economic hardships forced ... • 41. Satire In The Importance Of Being Ernest It s tone is that of satire, but of a satire which, for lack of a moral point of view, has lost its sting (Edouard Roditi) To what extent do you agree with this response to the play? By Molly Campbell With the definition of a satire being, the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity , it is ludicrous to even propose that The Importance of Being Earnest is anything other than a satirical play, as the characters relishing in the upper class of the Victorian period unknowingly mock their own habits acquired to them due to the luxury they are spoilt with. Despite this, it is evident that the use of satire is feckless and lacks a moral point of view, in contrast with the moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous to Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Victorian comedies consisted mostly of high and low comedy and of dirty or vulgar jokes, dirty gestures, and sex . Hence, it is possible to suggest that contradictory to Edouard Roditi s interpretation, the Importance of Being Earnest carries a moral point of view in the fact it does not exploit sex or sexual preferences to effectuate drollery; Wilde provokes laughter through mistaken identities and the consequences of bunburying perhaps to allude that his opinions it that sexuality is not a laughing matter. Providing this interpretation is true, it is acceptable to assume that the reasoning behind the negative criticisms the drama received when first written were due to the fact critics felt appalled that a piece of writing could prove successful without it consisting of any sexual nature and hence deemed The Importance of Being Earnest as, dull in comparison to other plays read over the years . Howbeit, some critics state that the word earnest became a code word for homosexual, as in: Is he earnest? , in the same way that Is he so? and Is he musical? were also employed , suggesting that The Importance of Being Earnest is an expression of Wilde s hatred for marriage and his fondness of homosexuality as he praises the idea of being Earnest . • 45. Communication And Language In Babel Babel, 2006, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu is a mosaic film about an accident in Morocco which connects four groups of people on three different continents. The word Babel is derived from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel and basically comes down to one common language being split into multiple languages causing a confusion in speech (Fairchild, 2017). According to Iñárritu, Babel is about how everyday lives are affected by walls, miscommunication and barriers (Michael, 2014). However, by not directly referencing the bible anywhere in the film, there is a sense of ambiguity, giving the audience the space to come to their own conclusion about what the messages of the film are. This paper will be looking at the themes of communication, prejudice and western superiority and the idea that humans have more in common than we realise. These ideas are helped along by film language elements such as nonlinear narrative, cinematography techniques such as camera angles and close ups and editing techniques such as parallel editing and match cuts. Communication or lack thereof often leading to confusion is a major theme raised in the film Babel and is delivered through elements such as narrative, parallel editing and repetition. Not only do the characters suffer from the inability to communicate due to their various language barriers but so too do the audience. • 46. Speech-Language Pathology Research Paper A Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is a specialist who evaluates and treats patients or students with speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages, according to MedicineNet (MedicineNet). People of all ages can struggle with speaking whether it be articulating letters, stuttering or dyslexia. It is easiest to help correct these challenges at a younger age, but not impossible when you are older. Regardless of the age or the reason behind the treatment, the most important part is that the individual receives the therapy that is needed to help them reach their optimum ability in communication and speaking. While with Ms. Smith, I was able to learn more about the difference between Medical Speech Language Pathology and School Speech Language Pathology. One of the major differences was the schooling you have to go through to become each type of pathologist. In a school, they require a masters to pass the national test, and a teaching certificate, where as a medical SLP s need a masters to pass the national test, and a certificate of clinician competence. Another difference is what each type of pathology pays. A school pathologist starts at around $40,000 a year with a scheduled step raise yearly of between $2,500 to $3,000. Medical SLP s start out at around $10,000 more than in a school and can increase significantly more over time. According to Learn.org, the highest mean salary someone can expect to receive in a hospital/laboratory setting is about $105,680 as of 2015 (Learn.org). One question I was eager to learn more about was how exactly does an SLP help children? While researching this question, I came across a video that explains exactly how it helps children. Speech Language Pathology can help with children s communication skills. It allows them to better understand what is being said to them and how to express themselves to others. It encourages them to talk with others more, and improves reading and writing skills. Communication can impact a child s social skills and can be an area kids may struggle. With some help with their speech, they can share a common focus with another person, play with others and share toys, understand feelings, and make friends. Overall, Speech Language Pathology helps them interact better with people around them and makes them feel more comfortable in a classroom (ASHA). One last thing that I was able to come to a conclusion on was the common terminology used as a Speech Language Pathologist. Like most fields of study, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Comparing My Fair Lady And Miss Congeniality In the world, there seems to be two levels of conflict. One conflict involves having a common war shared among multiple individuals, and the other incorporates more personal issues. For instance, many women across the globe feel inferior to men; however, some feel apt to change the way things are or how they adapt to the situation. Some women are satisfied with how their lives are, but there are some that will go the extra mile to see some fresh, new adjustments. In My Fair Lady and Miss Congeniality, there seems to be evidence of intertextual elements intertwined within both films through the aspects of character motives, conflicts, and setting. The characters of both films are revealed by their words and actions. The characters Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins from My Fair Lady seem to have obvious comparisons to Gracie Hart and Victor Melling from Miss Congeniality. The Pros And Cons Of Alcohol Advertisements Many entrepreneur s objectives are to grab the people s attention to focus on their product or understand the reasoning why they promote it in that way. People get different messages throughout the advertisement that is promoted. These people tend to go after what society goes after. If the product is not on trend, then it must have a creative slogan for the society, so they have something to focus. This is all based on the ethos, pathos, and logos that the creators focused on, so their message could be reached out. As an example, the first advertisement of Budweiser consists of animals. Ethos represents credibility or an ethical appeal which involves persuasion by the character involved, ( ). The purpose of this advertisement is to buy beer with a companion. These entrepreneurs made their clip specifically for those who are into drinking beer. Since a small scene concluded of a celebratory for the recovery of a missing dog, teens have a higher risk of being tempted into wanting to drink. • 52. William Blake Exaggeration William Blake and William Wordsworth both write about London in their poems. Composed Upon Westminster bridge and London both portray London differently during the industrial revolution. Blake writes about the negative aspects of London while Wordsworth on the other hand writes about the positive aspects of London. Although these poems portray London differently, they do so by the use of similar methods. The methods they use to portray London are exaggeration, use of the five senses, and personification. Both William Blake and William Wordsworth use exaggeration to describe London during the industrial revolution. In London , William blake uses exaggeration to illustrate the negative aspects of London during the industrial revolution. On the other hand, Wordsworth uses exaggeration in his poem to illustrate the positive aspects of London during the industrial revolution to illustrate the negative aspects of London blake uses exaggeration in lines eleven through twelve in his poem; And the hapless soldier s sigh runs in blood down palace walls (11 12). In this line William Blake is exaggerating the soldier s sigh because it didn t really run in blood down the palace walls. In order illustrate the positive aspects of London during industrial revolution; wordsworth uses exaggeration in the opening line of his poem. Earth has not anything to show more fair (1). In this line blake uses exaggeration to illustrate how captivated he is at the sunrise. This proves my point because through the use of exaggeration William Blake and William Wordsworth were able to show london in two different perspectives. Blake uses the five senses to help the reader picture how filthy London is in his poem. Wordsworth on the other hand, uses the five senses to help the reader picture how beautiful London is in his poem. In order to help his audience comprehend how filthy london is, william blake uses some of the five senses. He illustrates this well through the use of hearing. A strong example of this can be found in line thirteen: But most, through midnight streets I hear (13). Sound really makes a difference in our lives and he uses that to paint a clearer picture of how he perceives London. William Wordsworth uses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
