Archetypes In Life Of Pi
Introduction
Lead
To travel is to take a journey into yourself (Logothethis 1). We are the heroes of our own lives and are
given the opportunities to make decisions that will shape our own personal stories. Life of Pi is a
beautiful novel which fits Joseph Campbell s Monomyth (Hero s Journey) archetype, a pattern which
has been used to structure stories for generations from all around the world. Piscine Molitor Patel (Pi),
the protagonist of the novel, finds himself shaping his life, knowing that each mistake puts his survival
at stake. Yann Martel has written a breathtaking story about the voyage and erudition of Pi. He uses
the Monomyth archetype to show the measures one would take to survive, even if it requires putting
their religion

How Did Martha Graham Contribute To Dance
I decided to research one of the most influential Modern Dance pioneers; Martha Graham. Graham s
contributions to dance has often been compared to Picasso s contributions to art and Stravinsky s to
music; in my opinion she opened up many new opportunities and possibilities for dance including the
ability to learn free expression and honesty through movement. Martha Graham was born on May the
11th, 1894, in the suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Martha was one of George and Jane Beers
Graham s three daughters. Martha s father was a doctor who specialised in nervous disorders. George
Graham was interested in the prevention of these particular disorders through physical activity; an
idea that certainly interested Martha. It was part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with her best students from the Eastman school of Music, Graham started her own (now
famous) school for contemporary dance; The Martha Graham School for Contemporary Dance in New
York, where she continued to teach and express her own unique style. Graham mainly believed in
expression through dance so she tried very hard to create movement that focused on the realness of
life; her dance movements flowed with beauty and emotion. Modern dance is freeness and the ability
to express joy, sadness, and determinedness and without Martha Graham s influence on the art of
dance, modern dance simply wouldn t be the same as it is today. Graham also introduced the use of
moving scenery, the use of props as symbols and dance that was combined with speech. These were
all large changes and opened more possibilities and experiences to the world of dance. Graham also
got rid of the classic ballet folk dress and instead often chose a classy straight black dress for her
movement pieces.
Some of Graham s key works included her leading role performance in Igor Stravinsky s American
premier of Rite of Spring (1930). Graham also toured America in her role in the production of Electra
for four years. During the tour, Graham began to show interest in the American Indians of the South
West. It was this

The Battle Of The Sexes
The term hookup is deliberately vague and has come to replace dating on college campuses
(Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 589). The notion of battle of the sexes is one in which women want
hookups to evolve into some aspect of a relationship, while men prefer to hook up with no strings
attached (Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 591). Hamilton and Armstrong s ethnographic study of
female students examine the sexual experiences of men and women. Their research indicates that the
battle of the sexes explanation is insufficient and contributes to gender inequality by naturalizing
problematic notions of gender difference (Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 609). In this paper, I will
explain why their evidence of the battle of the sexes was inadequate and why I believe their data is
sufficient with their overall findings. It is because women want independence and autonomy, they
want to be self supporting, and want to have opportunities to meet new people that women reframe
from engaging in relationships. However, men s perspective on relationships is overlooked in their
data and based on my understandings of young adults, my experiences provide evidence of a battle of
the sexes amongst students.
Contrary to the notion of the battle of the sexes explanation, Armstrong and Hamilton suggest that
most privileged women want to be independent and gain autonomy before settling down in a
relationship (Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 602). The battle of the sexes approach suggests

The Star Of Star Stars
Our universe is made of millions of objects, many of them, we wonder how they became part of this
planet we live on. The star is one of these objects, sometimes we wonder how they maintain their
brightness and attractiveness. The main sequence stars, red dwarf stars and white dwarf stars are some
of these objects. The stages of each star are very different and have different variations of life. The life
of each star varies being that the longest a star can survive is up to trillions of years. There are trillions
of stars that sparkle in the sky and each star are very different from each other and are very unique.
Main sequence stars, Red dwarf stars and the white dwarf stars are all very unique in every way.
A large portion of the stars in the universe, around about 90 percent of them, are principle main
sequence stars. The sun is one of the main sequence stars and the largest. These stars can go from
about a tenth of the mass of the sun to up to 200 times larger. Stars are the magnificent bodies like the
sun that are extremely hot and have light they could call their own. Each star is a tremendous mass of
hot gasses and enormous flares that are leaving it. Stars are comprised of endless billows of hydrogen
gas, some helium and dust. In all the stars (counting the sun), hydrogen particles are consistently being
changed over into helium molecules and a lot of atomic vitality as warmth and light is discharged
amid this methodology. It is this light which makes a star

John Steinbeck s The Red Pony
John Steinbeck, known for his many meaningful works, was a prominent American writer born in
Salinas, California. His parents were Olive Hamilton and John Ernst Steinbeck Sr. He had three
sisters: Esther, Beth, and Mary. Steinbeck had a close relationship with his youngest sister, Mary.
Steinbeck and Mary would read the Arthur tales, and recreate them in plays (Benson 21). When he
was four, he was given a pony, which he named Jill, that later became his inspiration for his book
series titled. The Red Pony (John Steinbeck Bibliography). When he decided to become a writer at age

The Pros And Cons Of Factory Farming
William s paper addresses the moral risk that is posed when people decide to intentionally remain
ignorant to avoid a possible ethical crisis. She then elaborates on how this choice manifests itself in
four different types of affected ignorance. She bases her belief that factory farming is wrong using
deontology and utilitarianism because animals deserve respect as well as the ability to exist without
pain that is atypical from a natural life. Her argument is that when we chose affected ignorance, we
then become subject the possibility of moral risk if we identify that factory farming is morally wrong
and continue to support it. I agree with her argument, but believe that it could be strengthened by
developing the idea of how affected ignorance is a symptom of being weak willed.
Williams begins with the idea that we do not ask questions about what happens with factory farming
and that therefore makes us culpable for the disrespect that is administered to the animals while
harvesting the products. The choice of remaining in the dark puts the person at fault due to the fact
that animals in factory farming are also subjected to pain for the purpose of cheap meat to speed up
the process. She defines the act of staying in the dark as affected ignorance and identifies four
different ways that affected ignorance manifests itself in our lives. The first, being the refusal to
acknowledge the moral impacts imposed on the animals in the factory farming business. The second

Definition Of Coolness
It happens once again. The cliché never fails to rear its ugly head, as Plain Jain and her normal friends
watch the cool kids, with their nice clothes and fancy backpacks, roll down the block in a new BMW.
This scene seems to happen so often, and the result always appears to be the same: Plain Jain and her
normal friends are envious, and the cool kids roll along without a care in the world. Then again, if you
observe this scene more carefully, there is more content than most people would suspect. It is possible
that the roles are entirely reversed. The cool kids may be Plain Jain and her normal friends, and the
uncool kids may be stylish kids with loads of money. There is no official definition of cool that gives
legitimacy to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then again, that may not be true. The root of coolness can be the exact opposite of the general
definition. Coolness may begin with self rather than others. Coolness can mean being comfortable
with yourself, smiling in front of the mirror, or being completely satisfied with your identity. Everyone
praises the supposed cool kids who run the school or flaunt their cash, but the cool kids might be the
most uncool people. They do not have any reason to be defined as cool. There are no real world
elements that give legitimacy to their coolness. Others must define their coolness, but that coolness
immediately dissipates when those others are gone. The ignorant public does not know about the
many hours dressing for style, the shopping for expensive clothes, and the sitting behind closed doors.
These cool people are not cool in these moments. They are simply servants to the public, trying so
desperately to impress the public eye that will easily turn a blind eye for the next best piece of eye
candy. There is nothing cool about spending your life trying to impress everyone else when you have
yet to impress yourself. At the end of the day, behind all of that makeup, behind the nice cars, and
behind all of that false sense of glamour, what is really left? Just an empty shell of a person who has
given his or her self for a fading

serious mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders so that the population served, homeless women
do not get confused going back and forth to different mental health and substance abuse treatment

Integrated clinical treatment specialists have an understanding about substance abuse disorders and
mental illnesses; there will also be an understanding how both disorders affect an individual s way of
functioning. The clinical treatment specialist s team is staffed as nurses, Therapy and Substance Abuse
Counselors and Case Managers. They are trained in psychopathology, assessment, and treatment
strategies for both mental illness and substance abuse disorders. These skills are found to be effective
in treating individuals with co occurring disorders. These treatment specialists would have experience
with how short and long term substances affect people with co occurring disorders. Regier, (1990)

disorder within their lifetime. Structuring the proposed mental health program to implement Therapy

Analysis Of Benjamin Franklin s God Helps Those Who...
Autobiography Essay on Benjamin Franklin God helps those who helps themselves is a famous quote
by Benjamin Franklin. He exemplifies this in The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. In this book,
Franklin gives an account of his personal life to show others how he improved throughout his life. He
first started writing the autobiography for his son, but eventually turn it into a story for others to
imitate. He describes his life, virtues, and public service to others. The Autobiography opens with a
letter to Ben Franklin s son, William Franklin, who was the royal governor of New Jersey at the time.
Franklin writes the letter while on vacation in Twyford. Franklin says to William, Imagining it may be
equally agreeable to you to know the circumstances of my life, many of which you are yet
unacquainted with... I sit down to write them to you (5). His purpose of writing his son would be to
tell him personal accounts of his life that could benefit him in ways of motivation, wisdom, and
simply to show him how far he has improved in his life. He wishes to tell him how he rose from
poverty and obscurity to a higher degree of reputation in the world. Furthermore, this would not be his
only purpose, which changes with the tone and style of his writing Franklin decides to write a
complete autobiography to exemplify his self improvements. He shares with him how he enjoyed his
life, and if the opportunity to live the exact life arose he would change some errors. Ones which were

Importance Of Reflection On Child Development
This play based activity involved a table that had various elements to explore various sounds. Amelia
was guided to the table where another child was already present by the educator that she had an
attachment with. Amelia and the other child were babbling back and forth to one another. When both
children wanted to play with the same instrument, the educator let the children try to resolve it
themselves or intervened when needed. In this activity, Amelia was able to develop her social skills by
joining in play and cooperating with another child through her relationship with the trusted educator.
Reflection of assessment practice
Moles (2012, p. 1) discusses that reflection on assessment of practice is essential for educators to seek
a different perspective of their teaching practices from others through feedback, consider strengths and
challenges in their teaching and build on their knowledge as educators (Miller 2011, p. 5; Moles 2012,
p. 1).
In the VEYLDF (2016, p. 8), it discusses that educators can support children s development by
gathering information such as their interests and consider them when planning learning experiences.
What worked well in the implementation of the program for Amelia was the information gained from
her father which was used in the planning process. By forming a partnership with Amelia s father, I
was able to gain knowledge of Amelia s interests, what she did on the weekend and learnt simple
words in Bosnian. Bickley (2008, p. 1) supports

Cinema In The Philippine Cinema
The Philippine cinema is a roller coaster ride of different emotions and genres that serves the Filipino
people entertainment and enjoyment. Over the past century or so, we ve been filled up with a lot
different stories of characters that are relatable to the people. From the adventures of Fernando Poe Jr.
s Ang Panday to the comedic acts of Babalu and Dolphy, we can say that the Philippine film industry
is very reputable and prestigious just like those of in the other countries. In today s generation,
personally, I think people are getting sick of movies that depict mistresses and anything about them. I
also think that one of the genres that are on the rise is the Independent films. Erik Matti s Indie film,
Honor Thy Father, brings a very different tone and story to the plate. The movie starts off with Edgar
(John Lloyd Cruz) picking up his daughter from school. The scene shifts to their house where Kaye
(Meryll Soriano), Edgar s wife, is persuading a group of friends to invest in her father s business
where everyone gets significantly rich. Edgar sits from behind, listening to how people believe in his
wife s words. The next scene shows the essential part of the story because the movie uses religion as a
device to show the irony of being projected as pure and wholesome can hide the evilness and cruelty
of a person. Edgar s family is part of this religious organization called the Church of Yeshua but Edgar
is seen staring at the money being donated by the people and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Linux
Disadvantages
Many Windows programs will not run in Linux. iTunes, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and many
other Windows programs will not run natively in Linux. The good news is that there are decent ways
around most of these problems. For example, music libraries can be managed with an iPod using
programs such as Amarok, Banshee, or Rhythmbox in Linux. Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are
outstanding Internet browsers which can be used in the place of Internet Explorer. It is also possible to
run iTunes in Linux using Wine, VirtualBox, or Parallels, though it is difficult to have good results.

There is a smaller selection of peripheral hardware drivers (for printers, scanners, and other devices)
in Linux as compared to Windows, though many new Linux hardware drivers are constantly being
added. Closely related to this issue is the fact that not all Linux distros work with all sets of computer
hardware, so a person may need to try more than one distro to find one which works well with his/her
computer. When it comes to printers, some manufacturers offer better Linux support than others; for
example, HP offers excellent printer support for Linux. Click here to learn more about Linux hardware
compatibility.
There is a learning curve for people who are new to Linux. Despite this, most Linux distros, especially
the major ones, are very intuitive and user friendly. Also, the desktop environments in Linux are in
many ways similar to Windows in their appearance. One thing which should be emphasized is that
there is also a learning curve for Windows XP users who switch to Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Nuclear Transfer And Its Effect On The Body Of A Surrogate...
This is referred to as totipotency and it allows scientists to split animal embryos into several cells to
produce multiple organisms that are genetically identical.
Modern techniques begin with stripping the embryo of the protective layer. After each blastomere has
been separated from the embryo mass, the cell is encased in its own protective synthetic layer. Each
blastomere cell, is now considered a new separate embryo and is cultured in vitro and later in vivo in a
surrogate mother until birth (Roberge, 2004). Cloning by nuclear transfer is based on the concept that
the animal s genome is located in the cell nucleus. The only exception to this is the small amount of
DNA of 16, 000 base pairs found in the mitochondria. In this process ... Show more content on

In this process, somatic cells with their nuclei are allowed to grow and divide, these cells are then
deprived of nutrients to induce the cells into a suspended or dormant stage. An egg cell that has had its
nucleus removed is then placed in close proximity to a somatic cell and both cells are shocked with an
electrical pulse. The cells fuse and the egg is allowed to develop into an embryo.
The Honolulu Technique was developed at the University of Hawaii by Dr. Teruhiko. In this method,
the donor nucleus from a somatic cell is removed using a special pipette, and is microinjected into an
egg that has had the nucleus removed. The egg is placed in a chemical solution and it is cultured. The
developing embryo is then implanted into a surrogate and allowed to develop. Twenty two fertile,
female mice were cloned from nuclei of adult ovarian cumulus cells by this method.
Dolly the sheep was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell. She was derived from cells that
were taken from the udder of a six year old ewe. In this case, the genetic material in the nucleus was
transferred from adult somatic cells that were cultured. Individual cells were then fused with
unfertilised eggs from which the genetic material had been removed.
Two hundred and seventy seven of these reconstructed eggs were cultured for 6 days in temporary
recipients. Twenty nine of the eggs that appeared to have developed normally

Essay On Road Safety In Developing Countries
Road Safety in Developing Countries
By
Hussein Chami
City University London
2014/2015
Introduction
Road traffic accidents is a global issue which needs urgent attention. About 1.24 million people die
each year as a result of road traffic crashes. If this issue is not addressed the number of deaths is
expected to increase to around 1.9 million. In addition to that tens of millions are injured. The topic of
road safety is neglected in third world countries although road accidents is the leading cause of death
among young people, children, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The majority of the world s traffic, more than 90%, accidents occur in developed countries although
these countries have just over half of the world s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These data will be examined thoroughly, both by descriptive statistics and statistical models to identify
the relationship between the accident rate and the factors that influence the accidents such as
competence, road conditions, vehicle condition etc. Finally recommendations on how to tackle these
factors will be delivered in order to reduce road accidents and therefore death rates.
Objectives of the Research
This research will focus on Lebanon as the main developing country. Primary causes of road traffic
accidents will be examined thoroughly and in depth as investigating road casualties is very complex
and needs a lot of interpretation. Increase in vehicle owner has also led to an increase in road accidents
and injuries. However there are also other factors that influence the increase of accidents and injuries.
In addition to that human related causes over the previous decades have increased the complexity of
the problem. Therefore an urgent attention is need to investigate and tackle the trends that lead to
traffic accidents.
Therefore the objective of this research is to:
Identify the major causes of traffic accidents in developing nations
Investigate the critical causes of accidents in developing countries (Lebanon Qatar)
Test and validate the hypothesis developed on the critical causes of road accidents using statistical
models
Use the UK road safety model for recommendations in order to improve the road safety issue in

A Brief Note On The First Gasoline Powered Automobile Essay
Introduction
The first gasoline powered automobile was built 1885 in Germany. The first car was engineered by
Henry Ford in 1896. He took things a notch higher by establishing an assembly line which enabled
him to mass produce the vehicles thus making them affordable to the consumers.
The use of automobiles has since increased in the US and other parts of the world. By 1999, the US
alone had over 200 million passenger cars and light trucks. The number of cars worldwide grew thrice
faster than the human population. The increase in the number of automobiles has become a matter of
great concern as it leads to serious air pollution. For instance, European Environment Agency reported
that transportation emission presents a huge threat to the environment.
1. Global competition in the industry:
During the first half of this century, automobile imports were negligible on American roads. For
instance in 1950s, only 21,287 automobiles were imported and local manufacturers ignored their
presence in the belief that the imports were small and low quality. However, foreign automobiles have
since set the quality benchmark and in 1986 reached an all time high of 4.1 million units. In 1980s the
big three auto makers (Ford, General Motors, and Fiat/Chrysler) formed joint ventures with Japanese
automakers in order to capitalize on consumer attitude towards foreign automobiles. In 2004, the
automobile manufacturers formed the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers to work together on

Argumentative Essay On Confederate Flag
The Confederate flag has been around since 1861, as a symbol of endless war, and detestation towards
African Americans. Today, 154 years later, some states still incorporate the confederate flag into their
state flags. The Confederate flag does not show progression in history, rather it is offensive to many
groups and should be put to rest, because it does not promote unity in America. The Confederate flag
holds America back and keeps our country stuck in the past. Today the Confederate Flag is still
incorporated into five state flags. Those states are, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, and
Mississippi. The Confederate flag is still currently flying over South Carolina s capital, Columbia,
because of a state law. This law is known as The South Carolina Heritage Act of 2000. Section 1 10 30

Knight showcase many of the characters mostly following these traditions with the men being
portrayed as strong hearted knights who follow a code of chivalry, and the women as passive and
submissive beings to the men. However, Arthur s half sister Morgan Le Fay is featured in Sir Gawain,
and she does not play any parts given to her as a woman, as she is portrayed as an enchantress and an
evil, manipulative woman, which is an archetype that was given to women who did not follow their
given gender roles. Morgan Le Fay subverts the traditional roles for women by having her own power
in the play, and overall presents herself as the antithesis to the church and the patriarchy of the
Medieval times.

Sir Gawain would not have the plot it has if not for Morgan, as it is because of her that the play and

she remains one of the most pivotal characters in the texts for asserting her power over all the

Analysis Of The FilmPony Excess And Friday Night Lights
Mostly all film s encounter variety amounts of elements to create a beneficial film. To obtain an
interesting design of a film, directors manipulate the different fundamentals of cinematography to
enhance a symbolic meaning. Some film s can be categorized into two types, which are realistic and
formalistic aesthetics. For instance, the film Pony Excess is a realist aesthetic film that proclaims the
actuality of a film, while the formalist aesthetic film, Friday Night Lights, focuses on the persuasion of
emotions. In the film s Pony Excess and Friday Night Lights, realist and formalist aesthetics are
conveyed through the fundamentals of a film, which are collision sound, fast and slow motion, real
people, and on camera interviews to portray the reality and inner connection of a movie. One of the
key elements in a film is nailing the affection of a particular sound to the audience during a scene. In
most formalist film s there are two types of sounds, synchronous and asynchronous sound that
produces a collision sound. Synchronous sound is shown in Friday Night Lights by involving the
actual collision sounds of two football players clashing while they are playing. These sounds make the
audience acknowledge the aggression of the football players and the viewers can try to develop an
idea of the pain that the blocking process of football may cause. In the film, asynchronous sound is
initiated when one of the players gets hurt. For instance, football player, Boobie, got

Health and Social Care Level 3 Unit 2 Essay
Musab Omar Unit 2 ID No 20235744 Know Discriminatory practices in health and social care
Discriminatory practice in health and social care happens for many reasons including some important
factors that are normally the cause of discriminatory practice for example a person may be
discriminated against because on the basis of their diversity. One important discriminatory practice is
because of culture. A person s Culture is important to them and identifies who they are in the world. It
is developed within the social group they are raised in, and can change when they are mature enough
to decide for their selves what culture best suit them. In addition respecting a person s culture is ...

Another important discrimination practice in health and social care is the age of an individual. Age
discrimination happens when someone is treated unfavourably because of their age, without
justification, or is harassed and victimised because of their age. Age discrimination also happens when
someone is denied something because of their age, for example there were controversies regarding
giving older people drugs because of their shorter life expectancy, due to their age. Some people have
argued that the money would be better spent on drugs for younger people. This is a massive
discrimination against older people. An example of age discrimination in a health and social setting is
that someone might not be provided a certain service because of their old age for example if they
apply for a job as a nurse they might refuse their application because of their old age. This is a type of
discrimination in a lot jobs but this was an example from a health and social service. Social class is
another important type in which discrimination is based upon. Our social class is apparent from the
place where we live. The higher the class, the better the place is kept and maintained. This inequality
has also infiltrated health and social care. For example members of the department of health
publication claim that the poor are more likely to get cancer than the rich, and their chances of
survival are lower too. However at the

Contamination Caused by Pesticides in Our Environment
The environmental contamination is a most important universal problem in present scenario. Diverse
use of pesticides in agricultural usage causes to numerous environmental problems. These pesticide
residues in drinking water lead to increasing concern in health prospect. Vast usage of some pesticides
contributes to contamination of water bodies mostly, surface and ground water sources. Misuse,
accidental spillage, and improper disposal have resulted in extensive groundwater pollution (Edgehill
et al., 1982). Chlorophenols such as penta chlorophenol (PCP) and tetrachloropenol (TeCP) and their
salts, are broad spectrum biocides that have been used in agriculture, industry and public health since
the 1920s, and are designated as priority pollutants in the list of hazardous wastes [Zheng, et al.,
2004]. Several toxic chemical, agrochemical and pharmaceutical industries are discharging poisonous
effluents without appropriate treatment. These hazardous wastes are potential threat to human and
animal life. Trace amounts of organochlorine pesticides present in water and wastewater are the
almost difficult to separate from water. Therefore there is a demand for the efficient removal of
organic effluents from aqueous phase. Chemical used to kill pests mostly those of organochlorine
pesticides were critically prohibited in several countries due to their toxicity and stability in the
environment, PCP comes under this group. PCP is found in two forms as a sodium salt of PCP

In this case, there are two categories of Conservatives who support the Pro Life movement. To further

that if a woman experiences incest, rape, etc. they should be allowed to have an abortion, however, at

Questions On The And The Floor Of The Elevator
I. Introduction
Lillian Hummel is the daughter of Eleanor Mingle. Just after 9 a.m. on August 6, 2014, Hummel saw
her mother into the elevator on the twelfth floor of their apartment building. After a brief stop on the
ninth floor, the elevator plummeted into the ground floor killing Mingle. Hummel then brought claim
for negligent infliction of emotion distress ( NIED ) against Elite Elevator Company ( Elite ), which
maintained the elevator. To recover for NIED, a party must [1] be closely related to the injury victim,
[2] be present at the scene of the injury producing event at the time it occurs, [3] be aware that it is
causing injury to the victim and [4] as a result suffer emotional distress beyond that which would be
anticipated in a disinterested witness. Thing v. La Chusa, 48 Cal.3d 645 (1989). This memorandum
will address only the first three elements of the four elements set forth in Thing. Hummel will likely
be able to establish that she was closely related to the victim, present at the scene, and aware that the
incident contemporaneously injured her mother because she was reasonably certain that Mingle was
on the elevator at the time of the crash.
II. Question Presented
Was Hummel [1] closely related to her mother; [2] present at the time her mother was killed in the
elevator crash; [3] aware of her mother s location an instant before the event and that her mother was
being injured during the crash?
III. Brief Answer
A court will likely rule that Hummel

My Stranger Experience By Dr. John Howard, At The Dinah...
For my Stranger Experience, I went to a lecture called Picturing Queer Souths , which was taught by
Dr. John Howard, at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. He is a professor at King s College in
London, and he is also a University of Alabama alumnus. During this lecture, he discussed the
different aspects of LGBT photography and how sexuality can be expressed through that medium,
whether there are members of the community physically present in that photographs or not. There was
a specific focus on southern photographers that are members of the LGBT community, not only in the
American South, but also in relatively southern parts of the world, like South Africa for example.
Through his lecture, Dr. Howard explored the idea that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experience of attending the lecture was incredibly interesting to me. Personally, I identify as a
heterosexual woman, so this was actually the first time I ever visited a place that was focused on
LGBT life experiences and art. Interestingly enough, although the space was not necessarily queer
exclusive, I believe that a majority of the attendees were members of the queer community. This led to
several questions after the lecture pertaining to personal experiences from members of the community
and how they related to the lecture that was shared. I think that one of the aspects of strangeness I
experienced was the fact that I did not feel comfortable asking a question that I had at the end of the
lecture. There was nothing necessarily telling me that I could not ask a question, in fact, it was
encouraged for the most part. I simply felt like I was in a space that was specifically for queer people
and that it was not my place to speak up, since I typically have the privilege of having my voice heard
daily.
Another aspect that felt strange to me was the overt sexuality of many of the photographs that were
shown. I grew up in a very conservative Christian household, where I was taught that sexuality was
something that was private and sex itself was reserved for married couples. Many of the photos shown
during Dr. Howard s lecture showed partial or complete nudity, or were candid photos of LGBT
couples participating in sex acts. This was

Teaching Styles, Learning Styles, and Cultural Location in Relation to Academic Success The
mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great
teacher inspires. William Arthur Ward. Every teacher is different and teaches differently, but when it
comes to academic success of students, how do the teaching styles affect the overall outcome of the
student success. Although teaching styles and learning styles have a massive role to play and academic
success, so does cultural location. Teaching styles will form students learning behavior and how they
see their future. Teaching styles meshed with learning style of an individual student is the biggest
predictor of students academic success in all cultural locations. There are many ideas for what happens
in the classroom although many believe that teaching styles will affect the academic success within a
classroom based upon a teacher and his or her own beliefs and influences. We all have our own beliefs

context influences beliefs, it seems logical that national context would influence teachers use of and

building their way up throughout the years and not losing the concepts of their designs being classic

meaning it s just been designed to fit the customers needs, therefore the garments have to be all
handmade but also something wearable for few decades. That s why Parisian approaches fashion in
different combinations to tailoring fit to the body and drawing on the legacy of extravagance and

Essay on Summary of The Book of Hosea
In this book, there is an ongoing story of adultery, fornication, and betrayal between God and Israel
portrayed through the relationship between the prophet Hosea, and his wife Gomer. There are a few
different views on the actual relationship between Hosea and Gomer, the first of which is that Gomer
was already a harlot when Hosea took her as his wife. This one I would think is the most widely
accepted, simply because it s the literal description of the book, and people tend to lean towards literal
definitions more frequently than not, just look at how people of the world have torn apart the book of
Revelation! The second view is that Gomer was a harlot, but was only adulterous after getting
married. Those who believe this say that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gomer cheated on the prophet many times just as the nation of Israel cheated on their God with other
insignificant gods. Hosea provided for his wife the best way he could, and treated her the best way he
could, and received nothing but betrayal on her part. God, the same way, did nothing but provide for
His people, His wife. He cared for them in every way He could, and they still betrayed Him at every
turn. Hosea is a book telling of the judgment that is to come against them as a nation, and what is
required of them to come back to God. At the point of writing this book, it is already too late, and the
nation can do nothing to stay the wrath of God against them. God did everything He could for them,
even as it is said in 13:11, God gave them a king in His anger, going against what He wanted for them,
just to make them happy. In the end however, we see that God took their king away in His wrath. The
nation as a whole is to be captured, and they will no longer have a king like they had before. Their
glory will be taken away because of their sinfulness and rebellion towards God. This is one of the
longer minor prophets, having 14 chapters, most of which are dealing strictly with the ungodliness of
Israel as a nation, but the final chapter seems to me that Israel did change their ways and repent to
some extent. We do see that God will forgive them, but that does not mean that the consequences for

How Is Beowulf And Grendel Alike
Beowulf is an old Anglo Saxon story of a terrifying monster Grendel, Grendel travels to the Danes

years of grendel attacking Hrothgar s calls are answered and the great warrior Beowulf comes to kill

In the beginning of the story the plot stays the same for the most part... other than Beowulf being
motivated by other things than glory or pride. When Grendel is killed in the movie they introduce his
mother, they don t show her face but they hint to her being very seductive by the way she talks.
Grendel s mom doesn t really seek revenge in the movie but Hrothgar asks Beowulf to kill her because
of a prior incident (Grendel is actually Hrothgar s son) with Grendel s mom. Beowulf obliges and goes
to kill G s mom but when he enter her den he is almost instantly taken away by her beauty, this causes
Beowulf to have a lapse in judgement and impregnate G s mom. This is very different from the book
because in the book he kills G s mom in a battle to the death then cuts the head off of Grendel s dead
body as illustrated Armless, exactly as that fierce fighter had sent him out from Herot, then struck off
His head with a single swift blow (542). Also after Beowulf was seduced he goes back to Hrothgar
and lies to him and the Danes saying that he has killed Grendel s mother. This is the major plot
difference in the movie and the book. The overall theme/message is also different from the book to the
movie. For example in the book the book the theme is good vs. evil, Beowulf being good and Grendel
being. This however is not the case in the movie, the theme in the movie is more like don t cheat on
your spouse and don t lie to the people you rule or else it will come back to haunt you. This quite the
difference, but I believe the writers of the movie did this to make a point or to send a message to the
people watching

The Influence Of Nathaniel Bacon On The American Revolution
Historians tend to view events in a black or white approach. That kind of thinking would describe
Nathaniel Bacon battling for liberty and against English oppression, as paving the way for the
American Revolution. In reality, Bacon was an Indian hating landowner who was part of the nobility,
just not part of Gov. Berkeley s in crowd although he was a relative of Berkeley. Gov. Berkeley of
Virginia and his cronies in the great planter oligarchy [1] ran every aspect of life in Virginia. Berkeley

Bacon. Instead of trying to end the wars, Berkeley built defensive forts, which prolonged it. [3]Bacon
s plantation and the plantations of his friend s, were unprotected and isolated on the western frontier.
They asked for protection against Indian attacks and raids on their plantations and petitioned for an
armed troop. Berkeley denied and then outlawed all such petitions. Bacon, along with two other
landowners decided to raise their own army and fight the Indians themselves. He began a march to
track hostile Indians, killing friendly Indians by mistake. According to Rothbard (2011), when the
three founders, Bacon, Byrd, and Crew, and their friends ran into some militiamen at Jordan s Point,
the militia decided to mutiny and follow Bacon. When Bacon came back home most of the Virginians

The History of the Golden Gate Bridge Essay
Stretching across the San Francisco Bay stands the world famous Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge is
located in one of nature s most beautiful settings, spanning the mile wide bay from Fort Point in San
Francisco to the Marin County Shore. Joseph Strauss, specializing in bridge building, was the leader
of the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. The start of construction began on January 5, 1993 and,
after four years, was completed on April 27, 1997. The bridge was needed to be built because of the
growing population after the California Gold Rush. The bridge was a difficult task for engineers and is

He was most certainly familiar with the job.
In 1919, a study was begun to see if it would be possible to build a bridge across the Golden Gate.
Michael O Shaughnessy was the San Francisco city engineer. He was in charge of the rebuilding of
the city after the devastating 1906 earthquake that destroyed much of the city. O Shaughnessy knew
the need for the city to have bridges. Most said it could not be done and others said it could be done
but it would cost about $100 million to build it (Barter 23). O Shaughnessy and Strauss, both wanting
the same thing, got together. After the two consulted, they figured the only way to bridge the channel
was to use a suspension bridge.
Once O Shaughnessy and Strauss believed they could build the bridge, politics came into the picture.
In 1923, the California state legislature passes a bill that allowed the establishment of a Golden Gate
Bridge and Highway District. The district s job was to oversee the project and run the bridge once it
was built. Over the next few years, many people spoke up both for and against the building of the
bridge. The land on both ends of the bridge was owned by the U.S. military. Before any plans could
move forward, the military would have to approve the project and give the Bridge District permission
to use War Department land. An army colonel was appointed to hold hearings on the matter and for

George Berkeley Essay
George Berkeley was an Irish philosopher. His philosophical beliefs were centered on one main belief,
the belief that perception is the basis for existence. In doing so, he rejected the notion of a material
world in favor of an immaterial world.
Berkeley felt that all we really know about an object we learn from our perception of that object. He
recognized that in the materialist s view the real object is independent of any perceiver s perception.
The pen on my desk would exist, whether or not I was in the room to see it or have a sensory
experience of it in some way. Berkeley rejected this idea. He realized that knowledge is limited to
perception. In this realization, he postulated that everything we know we learned through ... Show

What, then, happens to an object when no one can perceive it anymore? If no one sees the tree and no
one has a sensory experience of it, does it cease to exist? This idea suggests that objects pop in and out
of reality when not being perceived by any human perceiver. Berkeley argues from an immaterialist
standpoint and says that objects do not act in such a manner. He tries to save his theory by saying that
the tree does in fact exist because God is the continuous perceiver of all things and therefore God
always perceives the tree.
This is an illegitimate appeal to save his philosophy. By saving his theory in this manner he shoots
himself in the foot. ; If God cannot be perceived, and if to be is to be perceived, then God cannot
possibly exist. Although the existence of God can be inferred through the classical ontological
argument, doing so scuttles his immaterial world. If one can have knowledge through inference, then
one can infer the existence of a material world.
Berkeley s answer to the existence of the tree in the quad is not convincing because his argument is
circular. If something must be perceived in

Gender Stereotypes In Snow White
When a baby is born they are given a color. Not the color of their skin, but a color for their gender.
Pink is for girls and blue is for boys. Women are chosen with pink colors because the advertisers want
to show women as being delicate and fragile. Men can have different colors of red, blue, green,
yellow, and purple, but not pink. Pink is shown as being fragile and feminine and not strong and
masculine. When you look into the different sections in a store you see that the girls have unicorns,
candy, princesses, dolls, and tiaras and that the boys section have trucks, cars, tools, and mud. Gender
stereotypes make a border for people not to express themselves to the fullest and their emotions. As a
young child seeing this type of stereotyping can put a negative impact on them. For example, in
children s books the good people are always princesses and are beautiful gets rescued by the prince
who often is handsome. The bad people are portrayed as witches, evil stepmothers and daughter and
trolls and unattractive. This sets up an idea that if you re not attractive than you must be a bad person.
This is a wrong idea to project on young children s minds. Another example is that in the 30 s, Disney
released a movie called Snow White. The average women in the 30 s was a size 8, but in Snow White
she was a double 00.(JagJammer21, YouTube) A lot of children and adolescents in America watch

During the colonial era, Britain has acquired considerable territories in the Northern America. These
colonies were looked at as a mere resource and were treated as such. However, it can be said that it
was England s own laws that sparked a revolution in these colonies. Starting with the Magna Carta
(1215), and continuing with the English Bill of Rights (1689), England has defined certain rights for
all Englishmen. However, many of these rules did not apply to the colonies. The abuses of this power

How to Respond to Major Natural Disasters by Remote Sensing
How to respond to major natural disaster by using Remote Sensing
Introduction
The increasingly frequent disasters in the world are damaging people s property and security.
Moreover, the catastrophes bring massive negative effects on the development of society. In the
meanwhile, it is impossible to obtain the accurate data of disaster areas by traditional observations or
detection modes. Though natural disaster is a tough problem to human beings, remote sensing (RS)
could help people better deal with it. According to Mei (2008), remote sensing is a reliable method of
measurement which could acquire information about the property of a phenomenon or object by an
observation device which is not in physical contact with the phenomenon or object under study. For
example, bats are good users of RS. They can emit super sonic waves at 25000 70000 Hz and receive
the acoustic echo by which means they can locate their prey and navigate. There are two main
categories of RS data: aerial data and satellite data. High precision is the most advantage of airborne
images. Unlike aerial data, satellite data aim at collecting information from wide range of areas.
There are numerous incomparable advantages of RS which could help respond to natural calamities,
such as wide field of view, non contact and low cost. The advanced technology could fulfill ample
tasks because of its various kinds of probes. For instance, thermal infrared probes could collect
information to predict earthquake and

Bacteria and viruses cause many of the diseases we are familiar with and may sound synonymous;
they are greatly different from each other.

are microscopic; they range in size from about 20 to 400 nanometers in diameter (1 nanometer = 10 9

Luther Righteousness
As a believer in Christ you know that we are born in sin. It is the human soul that is full of sin, death
and damnation (McGrath 121). It is only when one becomes a true believer that they will be saved
from suffering and damnation. How does one become a true believer and save themselves from such a
faith, this is the question Martin Luther addresses in his first argument, with much detail. Martin
Luther claims that this righteousness, the righteousness of God, can only be received through
justification by faith. The central idea of this doctrine is based off of the idea that the individual sinner
is incapable of self justification ... it is God who takes the inactive in justification. (McGrath 125).
Justification by faith thus does not mean that the sinner is justified because he or she believes, on
account of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sinners are passive in this process not having to do anything to receive God s righteousness while it is
God that is active, as he is the one providing humans with this cloak of righteousness (McGrath 122).
Luther sees this cloak or covering of righteousness as being located on the sinner s external person
never to be absorbed by the person (McGrath 125). This idea of the righteousness of God as only
covering sinners is where the term alien righteousness come from. In his lectures Luther developed the
idea of the alien righteousness of Christ, imputed not imparted to the believer of faith, as the grounds
of justification (McGrath 126). When you think of alien righteousness do not think of the ugly green
people, from outer space, that come to earth on spaceships, instead think of the righteousness that God
gives as being alien to the sinner. In this context alien means foreign, not a part of, so God s
righteousness is a foreign substance to the persons body, never to be absorbed by the person. Luther
believed Sin and righteousness thus coexist: we remain sinners inwardly, but are righteous
extrinsically, in the sight of God (McGrath

Archduke Ferdinand Causes
It is taught in social studies classes around the world that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of
Austria Hungary was the direct cause of World War One, but there were actually many underlying
causes that led up to the start of the war. What many people fail to realize is that the many underlying
causes that were already prevalent were the real cause of the war. The underlying causes can be
broken down into four subcategories: militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. The
assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was one of the first effects evident of the war, it was the first
casualty of the war. Militarism is the first underlying cause; it s all about nations glorifying war and
their military. Militarism means that the army ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries and makes them subject to their rule.
( World War One Causes ). Some countries took over other lands for natural resources/raw materials
that they needed to make industrial goods, just like Japan did in the twentieth century. Other countries
such as Germany conquered colonies because they wanted an empire. This caused conflict over
colonies, especially in Africa. ( Long term underlying causes of war 1). In the 19th century, Europeans
started to explore The Dark Continent known as Africa. Africa was known as The Dark Continent
because no one has explored it yet. European countries starting taking over African colonies in this
Scramble for Africa once their missionaries started to explore Africa, and come back to their countries
with reports of abundant natural resources such as gold, ivory, and salt. With many world powers
competing to get the most colonies they can, conflicts between nations surfaced. This was seen during
the Boer War, which was between the British and Dutch with the help of Germany fighting over South
Africa. This now sparked a new tension between the British and the Germans. The more colonies
owned by a nation, the more powerful the nation seemed. This is the reason the Austro Hungarian
empire annexed Bosnia Herzegovina in 1908. The annexation greatly inflamed Serbian nationalism. (

What Is The Theme Of Larkin And Abse
Both Larkin and Abse have composed verse which includes certain degrees of misery, be that as it
may, it s reasonable that they have distinctive perspectives on what causes the feeling. Charles Hall
said that it was ideal in Larkin s perspective, for everybody to leave themselves to their fates and
acknowledge the intractable void of their lives. Larkin appears to have the viewpoint that misery is for
the most part and crucial part of the human condition. Though Abse is for the most part hopeful, as a
rule his misery in his verse is subjective, brought about by uncommon minutes in the family, or
attention to mortality.
Larkin for the most part trusts that despondency lies in the desires of life and reality. One of his most
regular convictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good example of this is in his poem, A scene from married life. Generally the title suggests an
unremarkable and common place event, reluctant to give any information of the overall content of the
poem. Much like Larkin, Abse comments of the routine of his day, saying that nothing was happening
until it happened, the uneventful day therefore acts as a surprise for the argument that follows.
However, Abse writes about routine as a comfort, something he can rely on. It seems that he prefers
the routine over the uneventful occurrences. Although, Abse also has similar views to Larkin when he
mentions stuffy office block he seems to resent the idea of work and describes the commuters as
trapped , almost as though they are imprisoned by their job and the routine which prevents the
freedom of occasional spontaneous events. He uses the transferred epithet of brooding the represent
his own unhappiness as he thinks about the argument and the dank confusion of the grey clouds
indicative of his troubled marriage. He describes a marriage between the sea and the sky as a resentful
wedlock , possibly signifying the dominant verses the submissive in their relationship much like the
metaphor in the previous stanza where the early worm eats the dead bird. Abse s method of
rearranging a well known saying allows the reader to take that Abse, who considered himself the
dominant one of the pair, was in fact subjugated by his wife during this argument, embarrassing him.
Abse, in this poem, uses the method of self mockery in order to create an almost amusing scene of an
actually very serious moment. He describes his moment of despair similar to a B movie, which was a
poor quality movie known for its clichéd scenes and bad acting. He pictures his great climatic scene,
of him killing himself in a very

Essay Dichotomy in Seamus Heaney’s Poetry
Dichotomy in Seamus Heaney s Poetry
How much does an artist s life affect the art they produce? One s art certainly can be an expression of
one s surroundings and in this manner the surroundings are woven like a thread into their body of
work. Seamus Heaney, born and raised in Northern Ireland, has grown up with many strong influences
in his life that are visible in his poetry. As Robert Buttel claims in his article on Seamus Heaney the
imprint of this poet s origins is indelibly fixed in his work (180). Living in the bogland as Heaney has
described Northern Ireland left an imprint on his poems, as he often depicts the lush green countryside
and pastoral scenes of his youth. However, he also acknowledges his modern society. ... Show more

All of these dualities in his poetry, his art, can be linked to his biography. The tense social and political
atmosphere he was raised in, the local verses and scholarly education he received, the emotional
fluctuations caused by IRA bombings and peace protests all contribute to the splitness in his poetry.
This poignant dichotomy is seen explicitly in two poems in Seamus Heaney s Field Work. One poem,
The Strand at Lough Beg is written for Heaney s cousin Colum McCartney (ambushed and shot in a
sectarian killing) and is rich with pastoral scenery, dark tones, and religious imagery (Vendler 60).
Another poem, A Postcard from North Antrim is about his friend the social worker Sean Armstrong
(shot by a pointblank teatime bullet ) (Vendler 60). These two elegies, both with a strong presence of
Heaney s personal voice, are imbued with a sort of ambiguity as Heaney struggles with the death of
two people who were both very close to him. In both poems, Heaney tries to converse with and
question the dead in an attempt to rationalize, or at least display his sentiments on the untimely deaths
(Parker 159). It is interesting to watch Heaney oscillate in imagery, tone and diction as he progresses
through both poems. This wavering can be seen as a result of Heaney s background.
Seamus Heaney was born in Mossbawn, 13 April 1939, the place of the family farm in County Derry,
Northern Ireland, nearly 30 miles

Coral Reef Loss
A current problem impacting the island of tonga is the destruction of coral reef. One solution to this
problem is to put guard towers to watch people or higher more DLNR (department of land and natural
resources) workers. According to Coral conservation the text states the world s coral are in a crisis.
This shows that if we do not take action and do something about it like hire more DLNR workers we
may as well kiss the reefs goodbye. According to coral reef: threats/ wwf the text states Roughly one
quarter of coral reefs worldwide are already considered damaged beyond repair, with another two
thirds under serious threat. This shows that hiring more DLNR is needed because they can watch to
make sure no one is doing anything to harm the reef and that a lot of the reef is already gone. To reach
this solution we must first agree that there is a problem and that this is a way to help fix ... Show more

According to losing our coral reefs, the text states that Ten percent of coral reefs have already been
damaged beyond repair, and if we continue with business as usual, WRI projects that 90% of coral
reefs will be in danger by 2030, and all of them by 2050. This shows that if we do not do anything to
try and help then the coral reef will be in some serious trouble. In order to launch the commercials we
must hire a company to broadcast our commercials during their breaks like CNN. According to threats
to coral reef, the text states Sometimes poisons like cyanide are dumped into the water to stun fish and
make them easier to capture. Sadly, fishing with cyanide often kills fish, corals, and other forms of
wildlife, while degrading the reef habitat itself. This shows that advertising commercials will help to
notify and encourage people to be more aware and responsible. By doing this we will help to save a

  • 2. Archetypes In Life Of Pi Introduction Lead To travel is to take a journey into yourself (Logothethis 1). We are the heroes of our own lives and are given the opportunities to make decisions that will shape our own personal stories. Life of Pi is a beautiful novel which fits Joseph Campbell s Monomyth (Hero s Journey) archetype, a pattern which has been used to structure stories for generations from all around the world. • 3. How Did Martha Graham Contribute To Dance I decided to research one of the most influential Modern Dance pioneers; Martha Graham. Graham s contributions to dance has often been compared to Picasso s contributions to art and Stravinsky s to music; in my opinion she opened up many new opportunities and possibilities for dance including the ability to learn free expression and honesty through movement. Martha Graham was born on May the 11th, 1894, in the suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Martha was one of George and Jane Beers Graham s three daughters. Martha s father was a doctor who specialised in nervous disorders. George Graham was interested in the prevention of these particular disorders through physical activity; an idea that certainly interested Martha. It was part of ... Beginning with her best students from the Eastman school of Music, Graham started her own (now famous) school for contemporary dance; The Martha Graham School for Contemporary Dance in New York, where she continued to teach and express her own unique style. Graham mainly believed in expression through dance so she tried very hard to create movement that focused on the realness of life; her dance movements flowed with beauty and emotion. Modern dance is freeness and the ability to express joy, sadness, and determinedness and without Martha Graham s influence on the art of dance, modern dance simply wouldn t be the same as it is today. Graham also introduced the use of moving scenery, the use of props as symbols and dance that was combined with speech. These were all large changes and opened more possibilities and experiences to the world of dance. Graham also got rid of the classic ballet folk dress and instead often chose a classy straight black dress for her movement pieces. Some of Graham s key works included her leading role performance in Igor Stravinsky s American premier of Rite of Spring (1930). Graham also toured America in her role in the production of Electra for four years. During the tour, Graham began to show interest in the American Indians of the South West. It was this ... • 4. The Battle Of The Sexes The term hookup is deliberately vague and has come to replace dating on college campuses (Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 589). The notion of battle of the sexes is one in which women want hookups to evolve into some aspect of a relationship, while men prefer to hook up with no strings attached (Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 591). Hamilton and Armstrong s ethnographic study of female students examine the sexual experiences of men and women. Their research indicates that the battle of the sexes explanation is insufficient and contributes to gender inequality by naturalizing problematic notions of gender difference (Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 609). In this paper, I will explain why their evidence of the battle of the sexes was inadequate and why I believe their data is sufficient with their overall findings. It is because women want independence and autonomy, they want to be self supporting, and want to have opportunities to meet new people that women reframe from engaging in relationships. However, men s perspective on relationships is overlooked in their data and based on my understandings of young adults, my experiences provide evidence of a battle of the sexes amongst students. Contrary to the notion of the battle of the sexes explanation, Armstrong and Hamilton suggest that most privileged women want to be independent and gain autonomy before settling down in a relationship (Armstrong Hamilton, 2009, p. 602). The battle of the sexes approach suggests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The star is one of these objects, sometimes we wonder how they maintain their brightness and attractiveness. The main sequence stars, red dwarf stars and white dwarf stars are some of these objects. The stages of each star are very different and have different variations of life. The life of each star varies being that the longest a star can survive is up to trillions of years. There are trillions of stars that sparkle in the sky and each star are very different from each other and are very unique. Main sequence stars, Red dwarf stars and the white dwarf stars are all very unique in every way. A large portion of the stars in the universe, around about 90 percent of them, are principle main sequence stars. The sun is one of the main sequence stars and the largest. These stars can go from about a tenth of the mass of the sun to up to 200 times larger. Stars are the magnificent bodies like the sun that are extremely hot and have light they could call their own. Each star is a tremendous mass of hot gasses and enormous flares that are leaving it. Stars are comprised of endless billows of hydrogen gas, some helium and dust. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Factory Farming William s paper addresses the moral risk that is posed when people decide to intentionally remain ignorant to avoid a possible ethical crisis. She then elaborates on how this choice manifests itself in four different types of affected ignorance. She bases her belief that factory farming is wrong using deontology and utilitarianism because animals deserve respect as well as the ability to exist without pain that is atypical from a natural life. Her argument is that when we chose affected ignorance, we then become subject the possibility of moral risk if we identify that factory farming is morally wrong and continue to support it. I agree with her argument, but believe that it could be strengthened by developing the idea of how affected ignorance is a symptom of being weak willed. Williams begins with the idea that we do not ask questions about what happens with factory farming and that therefore makes us culpable for the disrespect that is administered to the animals while harvesting the products. The choice of remaining in the dark puts the person at fault due to the fact that animals in factory farming are also subjected to pain for the purpose of cheap meat to speed up the process. She defines the act of staying in the dark as affected ignorance and identifies four different ways that affected ignorance manifests itself in our lives. Over the past century or so, we ve been filled up with a lot different stories of characters that are relatable to the people. From the adventures of Fernando Poe Jr. s Ang Panday to the comedic acts of Babalu and Dolphy, we can say that the Philippine film industry is very reputable and prestigious just like those of in the other countries. In today s generation, personally, I think people are getting sick of movies that depict mistresses and anything about them. I also think that one of the genres that are on the rise is the Independent films. Erik Matti s Indie film, Honor Thy Father, brings a very different tone and story to the plate. The movie starts off with Edgar (John Lloyd Cruz) picking up his daughter from school. The scene shifts to their house where Kaye (Meryll Soriano), Edgar s wife, is persuading a group of friends to invest in her father s business where everyone gets significantly rich. Edgar sits from behind, listening to how people believe in his wife s words. The next scene shows the essential part of the story because the movie uses religion as a device to show the irony of being projected as pure and wholesome can hide the evilness and cruelty of a person. This is referred to as totipotency and it allows scientists to split animal embryos into several cells to produce multiple organisms that are genetically identical. Modern techniques begin with stripping the embryo of the protective layer. After each blastomere has been separated from the embryo mass, the cell is encased in its own protective synthetic layer. Each blastomere cell, is now considered a new separate embryo and is cultured in vitro and later in vivo in a surrogate mother until birth (Roberge, 2004). Cloning by nuclear transfer is based on the concept that the animal s genome is located in the cell nucleus. An egg cell that has had its nucleus removed is then placed in close proximity to a somatic cell and both cells are shocked with an electrical pulse. The cells fuse and the egg is allowed to develop into an embryo. The Honolulu Technique was developed at the University of Hawaii by Dr. Teruhiko. In this method, the donor nucleus from a somatic cell is removed using a special pipette, and is microinjected into an egg that has had the nucleus removed. The egg is placed in a chemical solution and it is cultured. The developing embryo is then implanted into a surrogate and allowed to develop. Twenty two fertile, female mice were cloned from nuclei of adult ovarian cumulus cells by this method. Dolly the sheep was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell. She was derived from cells that were taken from the udder of a six year old ewe. In this case, the genetic material in the nucleus was transferred from adult somatic cells that were cultured. The use of automobiles has since increased in the US and other parts of the world. By 1999, the US alone had over 200 million passenger cars and light trucks. The number of cars worldwide grew thrice faster than the human population. The increase in the number of automobiles has become a matter of great concern as it leads to serious air pollution. In 1980s the big three auto makers (Ford, General Motors, and Fiat/Chrysler) formed joint ventures with Japanese automakers in order to capitalize on consumer attitude towards foreign automobiles. Morgan Le Fay Essay During the Medieval times of England, society was created as a pure patriarchy by the Christian church, and nearly everything was made male dominated where the men held the power and their female counterparts held little to no power at all. Arthurian texts such as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight showcase many of the characters mostly following these traditions with the men being portrayed as strong hearted knights who follow a code of chivalry, and the women as passive and submissive beings to the men. However, Arthur s half sister Morgan Le Fay is featured in Sir Gawain, and she does not play any parts given to her as a woman, as she is portrayed as an enchantress and an evil, manipulative woman, which is an archetype that was given to women who did not follow their given gender roles. Morgan Le Fay subverts the traditional roles for women by having her own power in the play, and overall presents herself as the antithesis to the church and the patriarchy of the Medieval times. Age discrimination happens when someone is treated unfavourably because of their age, without justification, or is harassed and victimised because of their age. Age discrimination also happens when someone is denied something because of their age, for example there were controversies regarding giving older people drugs because of their shorter life expectancy, due to their age. Some people have argued that the money would be better spent on drugs for younger people. This is a massive discrimination against older people. An example of age discrimination in a health and social setting is that someone might not be provided a certain service because of their old age for example if they apply for a job as a nurse they might refuse their application because of their old age. This is a type of discrimination in a lot jobs but this was an example from a health and social service. Social class is another important type in which discrimination is based upon. Our social class is apparent from the place where we live. The higher the class, the better the place is kept and maintained. This inequality has also infiltrated health and social care. For example members of the department of health publication claim that the poor are more likely to get cancer than the rich, and their chances of survival are lower too. However at the ... Diverse use of pesticides in agricultural usage causes to numerous environmental problems. These pesticide residues in drinking water lead to increasing concern in health prospect. Vast usage of some pesticides contributes to contamination of water bodies mostly, surface and ground water sources. Misuse, accidental spillage, and improper disposal have resulted in extensive groundwater pollution (Edgehill et al., 1982). Chlorophenols such as penta chlorophenol (PCP) and tetrachloropenol (TeCP) and their salts, are broad spectrum biocides that have been used in agriculture, industry and public health since the 1920s, and are designated as priority pollutants in the list of hazardous wastes [Zheng, et al., 2004]. Several toxic chemical, agrochemical and pharmaceutical industries are discharging poisonous effluents without appropriate treatment. These hazardous wastes are potential threat to human and animal life. Trace amounts of organochlorine pesticides present in water and wastewater are the almost difficult to separate from water. Therefore there is a demand for the efficient removal of organic effluents from aqueous phase. Just after 9 a.m. on August 6, 2014, Hummel saw her mother into the elevator on the twelfth floor of their apartment building. After a brief stop on the ninth floor, the elevator plummeted into the ground floor killing Mingle. Hummel then brought claim for negligent infliction of emotion distress ( NIED ) against Elite Elevator Company ( Elite ), which maintained the elevator. To recover for NIED, a party must [1] be closely related to the injury victim, [2] be present at the scene of the injury producing event at the time it occurs, [3] be aware that it is causing injury to the victim and [4] as a result suffer emotional distress beyond that which would be anticipated in a disinterested witness. Thing v. La Chusa, 48 Cal.3d 645 (1989). This memorandum will address only the first three elements of the four elements set forth in Thing. Hummel will likely be able to establish that she was closely related to the victim, present at the scene, and aware that the incident contemporaneously injured her mother because she was reasonably certain that Mingle was on the elevator at the time of the crash. II. Question Presented Was Hummel [1] closely related to her mother; [2] present at the time her mother was killed in the elevator crash; [3] aware of her mother s location an instant before the event and that her mother was being injured during the crash? For my Stranger Experience, I went to a lecture called Picturing Queer Souths , which was taught by Dr. John Howard, at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. He is a professor at King s College in London, and he is also a University of Alabama alumnus. During this lecture, he discussed the different aspects of LGBT photography and how sexuality can be expressed through that medium, whether there are members of the community physically present in that photographs or not. Personally, I identify as a heterosexual woman, so this was actually the first time I ever visited a place that was focused on LGBT life experiences and art. Interestingly enough, although the space was not necessarily queer exclusive, I believe that a majority of the attendees were members of the queer community. This led to several questions after the lecture pertaining to personal experiences from members of the community and how they related to the lecture that was shared. I think that one of the aspects of strangeness I experienced was the fact that I did not feel comfortable asking a question that I had at the end of the lecture. There was nothing necessarily telling me that I could not ask a question, in fact, it was encouraged for the most part. I simply felt like I was in a space that was specifically for queer people and that it was not my place to speak up, since I typically have the privilege of having my voice heard daily. Another aspect that felt strange to me was the overt sexuality of many of the photographs that were shown. I grew up in a very conservative Christian household, where I was taught that sexuality was something that was private and sex itself was reserved for married couples. Many of the photos shown during Dr. Howard s lecture showed partial or complete nudity, or were candid photos of LGBT couples participating in sex acts. This was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Summary of The Book of Hosea In this book, there is an ongoing story of adultery, fornication, and betrayal between God and Israel portrayed through the relationship between the prophet Hosea, and his wife Gomer. There are a few different views on the actual relationship between Hosea and Gomer, the first of which is that Gomer was already a harlot when Hosea took her as his wife. This one I would think is the most widely accepted, simply because it s the literal description of the book, and people tend to lean towards literal definitions more frequently than not, just look at how people of the world have torn apart the book of Revelation! Gomer cheated on the prophet many times just as the nation of Israel cheated on their God with other insignificant gods. Hosea provided for his wife the best way he could, and treated her the best way he could, and received nothing but betrayal on her part. God, the same way, did nothing but provide for His people, His wife. He cared for them in every way He could, and they still betrayed Him at every turn. Hosea is a book telling of the judgment that is to come against them as a nation, and what is required of them to come back to God. At the point of writing this book, it is already too late, and the nation can do nothing to stay the wrath of God against them. God did everything He could for them, even as it is said in 13:11, God gave them a king in His anger, going against what He wanted for them, just to make them happy. In the end however, we see that God took their king away in His wrath. The nation as a whole is to be captured, and they will no longer have a king like they had before. Their glory will be taken away because of their sinfulness and rebellion towards God. This is one of the longer minor prophets, having 14 chapters, most of which are dealing strictly with the ungodliness of Israel as a nation, but the final chapter seems to me that Israel did change their ways and repent to some extent. Grendel s mom doesn t really seek revenge in the movie but Hrothgar asks Beowulf to kill her because of a prior incident (Grendel is actually Hrothgar s son) with Grendel s mom. Beowulf obliges and goes to kill G s mom but when he enter her den he is almost instantly taken away by her beauty, this causes Beowulf to have a lapse in judgement and impregnate G s mom. This is very different from the book because in the book he kills G s mom in a battle to the death then cuts the head off of Grendel s dead body as illustrated Armless, exactly as that fierce fighter had sent him out from Herot, then struck off His head with a single swift blow (542). Also after Beowulf was seduced he goes back to Hrothgar and lies to him and the Danes saying that he has killed Grendel s mother. This is the major plot difference in the movie and the book. The overall theme/message is also different from the book to the movie. For example in the book the book the theme is good vs. evil, Beowulf being good and Grendel being. This however is not the case in the movie, the theme in the movie is more like don t cheat on your spouse and don t lie to the people you rule or else it will come back to haunt you. He recognized that in the materialist s view the real object is independent of any perceiver s perception. Berkeley argues from an immaterialist standpoint and says that objects do not act in such a manner. This is an illegitimate appeal to save his philosophy. How to Respond to Major Natural Disasters by Remote Sensing How to respond to major natural disaster by using Remote Sensing Introduction The increasingly frequent disasters in the world are damaging people s property and security. Moreover, the catastrophes bring massive negative effects on the development of society. In the meanwhile, it is impossible to obtain the accurate data of disaster areas by traditional observations or detection modes. Though natural disaster is a tough problem to human beings, remote sensing (RS) could help people better deal with it. According to Mei (2008), remote sensing is a reliable method of measurement which could acquire information about the property of a phenomenon or object by an observation device which is not in physical contact with the phenomenon or object under study. For example, bats are good users of RS. They can emit super sonic waves at 25000 70000 Hz and receive the acoustic echo by which means they can locate their prey and navigate. There are two main categories of RS data: aerial data and satellite data. High precision is the most advantage of airborne images. Unlike aerial data, satellite data aim at collecting information from wide range of areas. There are numerous incomparable advantages of RS which could help respond to natural calamities, such as wide field of view, non contact and low cost. The central idea of this doctrine is based off of the idea that the individual sinner is incapable of self justification ... it is God who takes the inactive in justification. (McGrath 125). When you think of alien righteousness do not think of the ugly green people, from outer space, that come to earth on spaceships, instead think of the righteousness that God gives as being alien to the sinner. In this context alien means foreign, not a part of, so God s righteousness is a foreign substance to the persons body, never to be absorbed by the person. Luther believed Sin and righteousness thus coexist: we remain sinners inwardly, but are righteous extrinsically, in the sight of God (McGrath ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Archduke Ferdinand Causes It is taught in social studies classes around the world that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria Hungary was the direct cause of World War One, but there were actually many underlying causes that led up to the start of the war. What many people fail to realize is that the many underlying causes that were already prevalent were the real cause of the war. The underlying causes can be broken down into four subcategories: militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was one of the first effects evident of the war, it was the first casualty of the war. Militarism is the first underlying cause; it s all about nations glorifying war and their military. Militarism means that the army ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries and makes them subject to their rule. ( World War One Causes ). Some countries took over other lands for natural resources/raw materials that they needed to make industrial goods, just like Japan did in the twentieth century. Other countries such as Germany conquered colonies because they wanted an empire. This caused conflict over colonies, especially in Africa. ( Long term underlying causes of war 1). In the 19th century, Europeans started to explore The Dark Continent known as Africa. Africa was known as The Dark Continent because no one has explored it yet. European countries starting taking over African colonies in this Scramble for Africa once their missionaries started to explore Africa, and come back to their countries with reports of abundant natural resources such as gold, ivory, and salt. With many world powers competing to get the most colonies they can, conflicts between nations surfaced. This was seen during the Boer War, which was between the British and Dutch with the help of Germany fighting over South Africa. This now sparked a new tension between the British and the Germans. The more colonies owned by a nation, the more powerful the nation seemed. This is the reason the Austro Hungarian empire annexed Bosnia Herzegovina in 1908. The annexation greatly inflamed Serbian nationalism. ( Background to World War ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. What Is The Theme Of Larkin And Abse Both Larkin and Abse have composed verse which includes certain degrees of misery, be that as it may, it s reasonable that they have distinctive perspectives on what causes the feeling. Charles Hall said that it was ideal in Larkin s perspective, for everybody to leave themselves to their fates and acknowledge the intractable void of their lives. Larkin appears to have the viewpoint that misery is for the most part and crucial part of the human condition. Though Abse is for the most part hopeful, as a rule his misery in his verse is subjective, brought about by uncommon minutes in the family, or attention to mortality. Larkin for the most part trusts that despondency lies in the desires of life and reality. One of his most regular convictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good example of this is in his poem, A scene from married life. Generally the title suggests an unremarkable and common place event, reluctant to give any information of the overall content of the poem. Much like Larkin, Abse comments of the routine of his day, saying that nothing was happening until it happened, the uneventful day therefore acts as a surprise for the argument that follows. However, Abse writes about routine as a comfort, something he can rely on. It seems that he prefers the routine over the uneventful occurrences. Although, Abse also has similar views to Larkin when he mentions stuffy office block he seems to resent the idea of work and describes the commuters as trapped , almost as though they are imprisoned by their job and the routine which prevents the freedom of occasional spontaneous events. He uses the transferred epithet of brooding the represent his own unhappiness as he thinks about the argument and the dank confusion of the grey clouds indicative of his troubled marriage. He describes a marriage between the sea and the sky as a resentful wedlock , possibly signifying the dominant verses the submissive in their relationship much like the metaphor in the previous stanza where the early worm eats the dead bird. Abse s method of rearranging a well known saying allows the reader to take that Abse, who considered himself the dominant one of the pair, was in fact subjugated by his wife during this argument, embarrassing him. Abse, in this poem, uses the method of self mockery in order to create an almost amusing scene of an actually very serious moment. He describes his moment of despair similar to a B movie, which was a poor quality movie known for its clichéd scenes and bad acting. He pictures his great climatic scene, of him killing himself in a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Essay Dichotomy in Seamus Heaney’s Poetry Dichotomy in Seamus Heaney s Poetry How much does an artist s life affect the art they produce? One s art certainly can be an expression of one s surroundings and in this manner the surroundings are woven like a thread into their body of work. Seamus Heaney, born and raised in Northern Ireland, has grown up with many strong influences in his life that are visible in his poetry. As Robert Buttel claims in his article on Seamus Heaney the imprint of this poet s origins is indelibly fixed in his work (180). Living in the bogland as Heaney has described Northern Ireland left an imprint on his poems, as he often depicts the lush green countryside and pastoral scenes of his youth. However, he also acknowledges his modern society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these dualities in his poetry, his art, can be linked to his biography. The tense social and political atmosphere he was raised in, the local verses and scholarly education he received, the emotional fluctuations caused by IRA bombings and peace protests all contribute to the splitness in his poetry. This poignant dichotomy is seen explicitly in two poems in Seamus Heaney s Field Work. One poem, The Strand at Lough Beg is written for Heaney s cousin Colum McCartney (ambushed and shot in a sectarian killing) and is rich with pastoral scenery, dark tones, and religious imagery (Vendler 60). Another poem, A Postcard from North Antrim is about his friend the social worker Sean Armstrong (shot by a pointblank teatime bullet ) (Vendler 60). These two elegies, both with a strong presence of Heaney s personal voice, are imbued with a sort of ambiguity as Heaney struggles with the death of two people who were both very close to him. In both poems, Heaney tries to converse with and question the dead in an attempt to rationalize, or at least display his sentiments on the untimely deaths (Parker 159). It is interesting to watch Heaney oscillate in imagery, tone and diction as he progresses through both poems. This wavering can be seen as a result of Heaney s background. Seamus Heaney was born in Mossbawn, 13 April 1939, the place of the family farm in County Derry, Northern Ireland, nearly 30 miles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One solution to this problem is to put guard towers to watch people or higher more DLNR (department of land and natural resources) workers. According to Coral conservation the text states the world s coral are in a crisis. This shows that if we do not take action and do something about it like hire more DLNR workers we may as well kiss the reefs goodbye.
