A Seminar On Education And Poverty
In September of 2013, my sister passed away, leaving our family with more questions than answers
and challenges that parallel with heartbreak. As a freshman trying to find my way at the University of
Georgia, it seemed that I was going backwards compared to my peers and my grieving put more of a
strain on my will to continue my studies. Pursuing any actions for bettering myself or my counterparts
tended to feel overwhelming. Feelings of loneliness engulfed my state of mind, but what was most
unbearable was my realization that I had no idea of how I was going to overcome this. I usually have a
plan of what I would like to accomplish and who I strive to become, but at this stage of life, I felt as
lost as ever. As months passed, I had the opportunity to attend a seminar on education and poverty.
Although I was not interested in education, I attended to gain information for a class project. Through
this seminar, I found the beginning of passion that I did not know I possessed. The presenters exposed
the significant fact that students often times do not finish school due to their lacking in resources to
finish. These self and material doubts affect students at every level of education. While focusing on
my own challenges, I lost sight of the present, daunting challenges that others, whether they be my
peers or younger students, face on a daily basis. Pity for these other students had not crossed my mind,
but rather, an urgency to take action. Students must work so relentlessly

The Disease Of Red Measles Or Measles
Rubeola
Rubeola, also called red measles or measles, is an acute viral disease that causes a red rash over the
body. Measles is one of the most common and most deadly communicable childhood diseases. It is
spread from one child to another through direct contact with droplets from the nose and throat.
Sometimes, it is spread through air borne droplets from an infected child. This is a very contagious
disease that usually consists of a rash, fever, and cough. The rubeola virus can live on surfaces for
hours.
The virus was first isolated in 1954 by Nobel Laureate John F. Enders and Thomas Peebles, who were
careful to point out that the isolations were made from patients who had Koplik s spots, white spots
under the tongue. The rubeola virus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symptoms of measles begin to appear about seven to fourteen days after a person is infected, but can
be as long as twenty days. Most cases start with a mild to moderate fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes,
and sore throat. About three to five days later, a red rash appears. The rash begins at the hairline, then
spreads down to the rest of the body. When the rash appears, the fever may be as high as 103°F
to105°F. Symptoms may last for one to two weeks. Many cases are complicated by secondary
infections caused by bacterial pathogens, mainly Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae,
Streptococcus pyogenes, and Haemophilus influenzae. These pathogens readily invade the body
because measles damages the normal body defenses. Secondary infections most commonly cause
earaches and pneumonia.
Measles can be prevented by injecting an attenuated rubeola virus vaccine. At the time of the
introduction of the vaccine in the early 1960s, there were about 400,000 cases of the disease were
being reported each year in the United States, probably representing one tenth of the actual number of
victims. The number of cases in the United States have declined to maybe just a few each year. In
1980 the worldwide incidence of rubeola was estimated to be 100 million with 5.8 million deaths.
Globally, vaccination programs have lowered the number of cases dramatically since then, however,
the decline in incidence has not been uniform among the different regions of

How Did Alexander The Great Influence Rome
King Philip ruled ancient Greece from 359 BC right up to his death in 336 BC. After his demise, his
son, Alexander, took up his fathers mantle and continued his work as a ruler. Thus began the reign of
one of the greatest rulers in human history, Alexander the Great, who ruled almost all of the
Mediterranean. Alexander s empire strectched from Greece to India, spreading Greek ideas throughout
and many cities were named after the great ruler. Alexander s reign only lasted 13 years, but his
impact has left a mark on human history as many cities throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe still bare
his name and the fact that his death triggered the start of a new era. Alexander the Great ruled during
an era known as the Classical Era, which greatly influenced the Roman empire, this era ... Show more

The Hellenistic era ended in the year 31 B.C. with the battle of Actium, it was the final battle between
Octavian s army and Cleopatra s army. The Roman s not only conquered Italy, but it also had power
over the entire coast of the Adriatic sea and much like Alexander the Great, they were looking to
expand throughout the continent of Europe and seeked to conquer beyond Europe. After the battle of
Actium, the entire Hellenic world was under Rome s control and Greece was controlled by various
rulers until it s independence in the 19th century. The new Roman era was one that will change the
world forever with many wars and battles that shaped our history and of course, the birth and death of
Jesus Christ thus beginning a new world religion, Christianity. Now, every era in human history has
given us something that has shaped our contemporary world, the Hellenistic era gave us the modern
library, but an era is named and timed not by the people living through it, but the historians who study
it centuries later. So where did the Hellenistic era get it s name and where did it come

The Population Of Canada And The Proportion Of Seniors
The population of Canada regularly changes in pattern and growth and the proportion of seniors in
Canada is increasing (Refer to Appendix A). The life expectancy of Canadians has increased greatly
for both males and females. The number of seniors peaked in the year 2013 to 5.4 million which is
approximately 15.3% of the total population (1). It is also projected that by 2056, 25% of the
population of Canada (13 million) will be aged 65 years and older (Refer to Appendix B) (2).

they require special care from all. Their needs include remaining active members of the society,

Income is a crucial indicator of the given standard of living of seniors and it also directly impacts their
health. Currently in Canada, low income among seniors is at a record low. This has been largely
attributed to the Canada s retirement income system, particularly the various pension plans and private
savings. In 2003, the most susceptible to low income are single seniors, especially women, with a rate
of 18.9% (155,000), compared with 14.7% (46,000) for senior men (4).
In general, seniors are vulnerable to a range of chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cancer,
chronic heart diseases, arthritis and Alzheimer s disease which adversely influence their quality of life.
These diseases also increase demands on the healthcare system (5). It was reported in 2012 that
approximately 85% of seniors aged 65 to 79 years and about 90% of seniors aged over 80 years have
at least one chronic condition (6). In 2004, about 1.7% of the total Canadian labour force were seniors.
The number of Canadian seniors aged 65 or over participating in the labour force was approximately
300,000 (287,000 of them are employed and 9,000 actively looking for work) (7). This impacts the
health of seniors because the more the number of seniors participating in the workforce, the more
physically active and healthier they are. Working also provides an additional means of income besides
their pension funds which would help improve the quality of life.

Procedure The proposal for this study was approved by the Institutional Review Board at the
University of Mary. The community based wellness program was designed by the researchers based
on current literature on the effectiveness of such programs with the PD population. Participants for
this study were recruited from a Parkinson s disease support group in the Upper Midwest. Purposive
and convenience sampling was utilized, which involves selecting individuals who have a diagnosis of
PD living in the community and who are willing to volunteer. Participants all signed informed consent

Imperial China Historiography
In the imperial China, the role of controlling the emperor s power started with a historiographer, then
to be a permanent position, however, what the objectives controlled is the administrative officers and
their remonstrations to the emperor in some dynasties, rather not the directly challenge emperors

regulate the emperor s conduct. Only, the intervention of the emperor s mandate that change the
objectives from the emperor himself to the other bureaucratic officers may destroy the balance.

How are religion and culture connected? Religion and culture are super important in any society and
have major influences on one another. Religions have a huge impact on all cultures and even societies.
It is basically an outline of how we should behave in a society and culture. These guidelines are how
you should be living your day to day lives. The Maurya and Gupta empire, at one time had a very
honored leader, Asoka. Have you ever even thought about how much Asoka actually did for the Indian
empire? He grew and united his empire through pacifism. The empire stopped their expansion,
Mauryan people were very strong, but stopped conquering others for area. They focused on staying
peaceful and uniting together.
Asoka had a completely different plan on how he ran his empire. He was the most honored emperor
Maurya ever had. He went from a warrior to a worshipper of Buddhism, this changed everything this
empire had ever known. He rejected all violence, and then ruled my moral example . He respected all
life, even animals. He stopped eating meat and even limited the sacrifices of animals. He sent
missionaries to spread the Buddhism religion across all of India and to Sri Lanka. He let all of his

in any way violent, Asoka did not go through with it unless they were being attacked. He had to keep

With the addition of Kmart this now gives us the opportunity to grow off mall locations closer to the
customer (Bhatnagar, 2004). Kmart stores are primarily located in strip malls in heavily populated
cities opposed to Sears s stores, which are usually located in larger malls with more competition and
are farther away. Sears mission statement states they want to build customer relationships, make more
money and improve everyday. Sears vision statement states, Sears Holdings Corporation is committed
to improving the lives of our customers by providing quality services, products and solutions that earn
their trust and build lifetime relationships (www.searsholdings.com/invest/). By merging these two
companies they have merged two different kinds of shoppers. Sears Holdings Corporation will now

Stimulant medication could be the miracle drug, or the most harmful thing to hit the younger

adolescents lives, or the lives of people close to them. There is an underground market for medications
like these, and the market is growing quickly. Whether just to make sure they pass that next test, or if
they really believe they need it, stimulants popularity is soaring, and not just among adolescents but
doctors as well. Stimulant medication / therapy is being prescribed at a growing rate, leading to many

this medication, an unprecedented number of adolescents and adults are already legally in possession.
Without proper monitoring and education, illegal users may be impacted by their use for the rest of
their lives. Some of the more common side effects include loss of appetite, restlessness, stomach
aches, insomnia, headaches, and anorexia. Effects such as these, especially without proper monitoring
by a medical professional, can be very severe, if not fatal. While practically all who take stimulants
are at risk of this, the risk of complications goes up for someone tremendously once they take over the
recommended dosage. Overdosing on stimulants like Ritalin or Adderall most reliably result in
euphoria, delirium, confusion, toxic psychosis, and hallucinations, along with schizophrenic

of anxiety conditions including panic states being commonly reported

The Pros And Cons Of Testimonial Silencing
Testimonial silencing has two parts that corresponds with failures of the audience to reciprocate
successfully and coerced silencing of the speaker by the audience. The former refers to testimonial
quieting, which occurs when the audience, intentionally or unintentionally, fails to identify the speaker
as a knower, owing to pernicious ignorance harmful reliable ignorance (Dotson 242). The latter refers
to testimonial smothering, which is when an audience demonstrates testimonial incompetence with
respect to the content of potential testimony so the speaker truncates her testimony (Dotson 245). A
successful linguistic exchange requires the audience to both understand the speaker s words and
understand what the speaker is doing with the words (Dotson 237). A failure to accomplish this,
unintentionally or intentionally, is epistemic violence. Furthermore, in testimonial quieting, the
audience is failing to hear and understand what the speaker is saying in her testimony. Because the
speaker cannot force the audience to hear her/him, there is no reciprocity between audience and
speaker, thus, it s a failed linguistic exchange. This pattern of failing to identify the speaker as a
knower is more prevalent to certain groups of people who are systematically silenced (i.e. black
women). This form of silencing is because of harmful reliable ignorance (pernicious ignorance) which
may cause harms to one s intellect, epistemic agency, and intellectual traditions of entire groups.

The human mind is a fragile thing. It can be both strengthen and broken down easily. Actions and even

to mental and bodily withdrawal. Harming a person with words can leave lasting effects and always

someone to act in way that he or she has never behaved before. When done by a loved one, it can

Dr Jekyll And Hyde Gender Analysis
Another perspective to consider when exploring the absence of women in Jekyll and Hyde is the
curious descriptions regarding Hyde. Doane and Hodges state that many descriptions of Hyde s
physical characteristics are congruent with cultural descriptions of femininity (69). As a result,
perhaps women are not seen much in the novella because Hyde operates as the sole feminine
representative. He is small in stature like women typically are, walks with a quick light step swinging
his arms instead of walking with a heavy step, and weeps like a women. Many critics argue that Hyde
s size and even his walking pattern represent outward manifestations of his morality. In regards to
size, his small stature references stunted growth in the area of moral ... Show more content on

When Utterson and Poole break into Jekyll s laboratory, they find a surprisingly domestic scene: quiet
lamplight, a good fire glowing and chattering on the hearth, the kettle singing its thin strain, a drawer
or two open, papers neatly set forth on the business table, and nearer the fire, things laid out for tea
(Stevenson 33). Instead of finding Jekyll, they find Hyde on the floor dead, making it seem like Hyde
was the one who set up this warm scene. A likely explanation for this setup could be that a maid set
everything up for her master; however, all of the servants and maids are locked out of the laboratory.
Utterson describes all of Jekyll s servants and maids in the hall entranceway huddled together like a
flock of sheep , and Poole explains that, for a week now, Jekyll has locked himself in his laboratory
and not left once, scaring everyone who works in the household (Stevenson 28). Considering that no
one is able to enter his laboratory in order to arrange this domestic scene, Hyde is the only character
who could have organized the room accordingly. For a man of immoral grounds, this is an odd task,
especially considering his usually violent actions. Additionally, this setting is not important in the big
scheme of things and is immediately overlooked after Utterson and Poole find Hyde s dead body in
the room. For the past week, Jekyll has been

20th Century Philosophy
This week s paper we were to research and identify three prevailing philosophical perspectives at
work during the 20th Century. To begin I will research the history of a few new tendencies in
contemporary philosophy. Then I will discuss the Tom Rockmore interpretation of such tendencies.
Tom Rockmore is Professor of Philosophy and a McAnulty College Distinguished Professor, Dr.
Rockmore s current research interests encompass all of modern philosophy, with special emphasis on
selected problems as well as figures in German idealism (Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Marx) and recent
continental philosophy (Heidegger, Habermas, Lukacs). He is continuing to explore the epistemology
of German idealism as well as the relation between philosophy and ... Show more content on

The most practical of analytical philosophy also included Moore, and Carnape. The American (neo)
pragmatism philosophy is a philosophical movement that was given systematic terms by Charles
Sanders Peirce and William James and later taken up and revamped by John Dewey. Pragmatists stress
the practical purpose of knowledge as a way for acclimatizing to reality and controlling it. Pragmatism
concur with empiricism in its emphasis on the importance of experience over a priori reasoning.
However the truth had customarily been discussed in terms of communication with reality or in terms
of coherence pragmatism embraces that truth is to be sought in the process of verification. Pragmatists
translates ideas as means and plans of action rather than as images of reality; more specifically, they
are recommendations and anticipations of possible conduct, hypotheses or forecasts of what will result
from a given action, or ways of organizing behavior(Answer,2010)
Between the continental and the analytic philosophy, being the two most significant tendencies, barely
any debate was taking place; this was due to the lack of knowledge, contempt, and mutual lack of
attention. In spite of this, the situation is changing slowly: especially American philosophers like
Taylor, Nagel, Rorty and others converse subjects in which until recently only

Globalization Is Not Being Exploited By Capitalists Essay
At one time, Joan Robinson, a British economist had said, There is only one thing that is worse than
being exploited by capitalists. And that is not being exploited by capitalists (Nayyar 2006, 4). The
process of globalization has changed the ways of human interaction and the flow of goods and
services, people, information and ideas creating an interconnected single community that is
continuously uniting many nations across borders. The emergence of easier accessibility to consumers
needs has skyrocketed the production and consumption of goods and services. With a greater demand
comes greater production and the twenty first century capitalist economies have changed patterns of
free trade, rely on commodities and resources to be able to make profit and be integrated into the open
market, benefitting from further economic growth. This change in trade patterns amongst different
markets are based on product specialization and the division of labour to create employment
opportunities, income and surplus benefits are extended to other parts of the globe. These patterns of
trade encourage greater competition between markets and low cost goods and services for consumers
(Ebeling 2004, 3). However, the process of globalization has created two different worlds of a winner
and a loser; the included and the excluded. Comparing these two worlds, one of them consists of
industrialized countries that benefit from more prosperity, inclusion, advanced efficient production

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Relationship Between Good And Evil
The Choice of Illusion Robert Louis Stevenson s novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde, follows the life of Dr. Jekyll as he attempts to answer the question of how to be good. Jekyll
comes to the conclusion that the make up of man consist of two parts: the good and the evil. The
relationship between good and evil are according to Jekyll a duality. This duality is understood as
interdependence between good and evil. In other words, good and evil exist in relationship with each
other, thus without one, the other ceases to exist. However, it seems as if Jekyll wants to suggest that
good and evil are independent and can be separated. This interpretation of duality shows that Jekyll
simply misinterprets the relationship between good and evil. Though Jekyll may seem to
misunderstand the relationship between good and evil, the text shows that while he does, he
intentionally ignores reality and creates for himself an ultimately futile fantasy. If Jekyll s
understanding of the relationship between good and evil is one of independence, then being ... Show

How do we see good and evil? What is our understanding of the relationship between the two? Are we
disillusioned like Jekyll was? Jekyll s end does not have to be the fate of all disillusionment. The
choice is there and one can choose to continue in one s fantasy as Jekyll did or in contrary, to
understand the significance of choice and retain the possibility of being good. The relationship
between good and evil allows there to be a choice. It is in this choice that good and evil can even exist.
It then in this choice that we can attain being a good person or a bad person. This stresses the
importance of the choices we make. Jekyll s choices led him to an end that cost his life. Life is a series
of decisions and it is these decisions that we can live a good or a bad life, to die happy or unhappy, to

CIPCA Pets
The majority of children at CIPCC are able to fully participate in the program without requiring
modifications. However, there are many alterations and modifications which we make to the Kiddie
CATS program, to the environment and to the materials, to allow the program to run smoothly and
create an atmosphere where children are able to participate, regardless of their ability. Certain children
require additional support and accommodations, nevertheless, I can still see enjoyment and benefits
from their participation in the program. The majority of the modifications that are listed in the manual
are not used to address the modifications needed by specific individuals, but to increase efficacy and
safety. We play a lot of games that use the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While we are playing games that have the teachers as one role and the students as another, we often
invite children to participate by allowing them to hold a teacher s hand and take on the teacher s role.
This can work, but sometimes is difficult and causes other problem. To address this, we could modify
our approach to supplying support to these children. Instead of letting them take on the role of the
teacher, we could allow the individuals in need of support to show a teacher how to take on the role of
the student. The teacher could then, support the child and the child could still participate with their
peers and continue the program. The children at CIPCC really like to interact and communicate with
the teachers and the UVM students from the Fit Kids program. I think that the most influential ways to
modify the games in this program will be to find unique alterations to address the individual needs of
the children who could likely benefit from Kiddie CATs the most. I will continue to be thinking of
modifications to allow this program to be more accessible and enjoyable to all children

Acadia Research Paper
The Acadia, launched in 1913 out of Newcastle, England was the first vessel that was designed to
handle the cold, ice filled waters to specifically survey Canada s northern waters, such as the Hudson
Bay or the south shore of Novia Scotia. This ship helped pioneer hydrographic research by taking
measurements around Canada s Arctic waters at the beginning of her career. The last operation this
ship was used for was to chart the coast of Newfoundland, and these up to date charts replaced those
that were a hundred years old. The Acadia may have started as just a research vessel, but once war
came around it was adapted. From 1916 to 1919, she was a patrol and escort vessel; then in 1917 she
was damaged in the Halifax Explosion while being

The Effects Of Stress And On Stress
When people hear the words life and stress together in the same sentence the words alone may already
be causing some to acquire more stress. Stress is very common and known by every living thing and
can play a huge role in our lives. We have all experienced stress in some type of form. It is a very
unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situations that are
dangerous or threatening. It may also vary by its definition because it may mean something slightly
different to one person then it does to the other. Stress is not always categorized in the same degree. It
can be measured differently depending on age and the situation/event. Some people see stress as an
emotion that causes them to worry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many illnesses that can be caused by certain stressful life events such as: obesity, diabetes,
depression, anxiety, aging and Alzheimer s disease.
Conducting the Research This research was conducted by Holmes and Rahe and it compiled of 43 life
events that majority of people feel that cause more stress than others. The events ranged from minor
everyday changes one may face in their life to chaotic and disastrous events. As a reference point they
assigned marriage with the arbitrary number of 500 and told the patients to gauge their responses
using that value. If an event called for a higher amount of stress and change in one s life than the value
would be higher and if it was less stress than the value would be lower. For this research, The Social
Readjustment Rating Scale was used. This scale was created by Holmes and Rahe in the late 1960 s to
measure the common stressors of everyday events. This scale was used to determine the value of
stress in a certain event. To use the scale the individual being tested would have to add up all the
values for the listed life events that were correlated with the individual, and if the event happened
multiple times within the past 12 months then the event would be multiplied by the number of times it
occurred. Every life stress event listed on the scale has an assigned value which are referred to as life
change units (LCU s). These life change units reflect the amount of

Explain how continuous improvement models, knowledge management systems, quality systems and
sustainability principles can be incorporated into business systems
Continuous Improvement Models
To close the gap between actual and desired performance, decisions need to be made. Decision
making involves making a selection from among alternative courses of action. Implementation and
evaluation of the implementation provide feedback into the next cycle of group decision making.
Effective problem solving and decision making processes follow an ordered format, requiring you to:
1. Examine the current situation, in measurable terms, to discover or identify the discrepancy (this
could be a problem, issue or opportunity).
2. Diagnose symptoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strategies for capturing and sharing insights and experiences include:
Best practice transfer: is the process of sharing the methods of doing business that yield the best
results.
Community of practice: a group of individuals sharing a common work practice over a period.
Expert directories: a tool for knowledge seekers to gain access to experts.
Knowledge brokers: knowledge brokers can be public or scientific, industry specific, or firm specific.
Mentoring: is the process of a more experienced person advising and guiding a less experienced (and
usually younger) person, typically a colleague.
Post project reviews: or lesson learned debriefings occur either at the completion of a project or
activity or at strategic points or milestones during the project.
Story telling: uses anecdotal examples to illustrate a point and transfer knowledge.
A key strategy for knowledge management is actively managing knowledge, also known as a push
strategy. Employees enter their knowledge into shared knowledge repository, such as a database.
Employees seeking knowledge can search the database.
The opposite strategy, a pull strategy, is the use of experts on an ad hoc basis. The expert provides
insight to persons needing information.

The Debate Over The Generation
Everyone s been there; extended family gathered around the dinner table discussing life when
someone makes the notorious comment; Get off your phone, your generation, all you care about is
technology! The debate over Millennials being inadequate and too technology based has become
frequent, the common argument from adults being that all Millennials care about is their phone. Yet
adults have frequently stated this as they glance up from their phone as their fingers rapidly tap away
on a screen. Adults can not continue to blame technology for Millennials lack of knowledge when they
were the ones who raised us this way. Furthermore, contrary to belief, if anything technology has
furthered Millennials growing intelligence, not damaged it. Therefore, although technological
advances have been made, the common belief that Millennials are the dumbest generation is invalid
due to the fact that millennials literacy and overall intelligence is increasing while the rigor of classes
is skyrocketing.
Technology seems to be the pinpoint of the argument of millennials being dumb. Millennials are
always on their phone. Anytime something negative happens it always seems to relate back the that
dumb phone. Yet contrary to this, technology has increased millennials intelligence levels, due to the
fact that the digital world lowers barriers to self directed learning (Mizuko Ito Al.). Instead of

The Public Sphere By Jurgen Habermas Essay
In 1962, Jurgen Habermas published his theory of the public sphere as a way to ensure a functioning
democratic society. His theory operates under the assumption that it is possible for people to engage in
discourse while bracketing status differentials and to deliberate as if they were social equals. However,
Habermas idea of the public sphere was greatly rooted in the history of bourgeois society specifically.
Thus, the assumption that all citizens would have equal access to engage in discourse in the public
sphere today is unlikely. In North America now, the population size is larger, the diverse interests have
grown and the political and social powers have more influence over each other than ever before.
Beginning with a discussion of Habermas work, The Public Sphere: An Encyclopedia Article, and
Nancy Fraser s, Rethinking the Public Sphere: A Contribution to the Critique of Actually Existing
Democracy , I shall use examples from feminist, indigenous and environmental movements in North
America to illustrate the problems with Habermas assumption. This essay argues that no single
individual can temporarily ignore their gender, history or private interests when deliberating in the
bourgeois public sphere making it impossible for individuals to engage in public discussions as if they
were social equals.
First, it is necessary to define what a bourgeois public sphere is. When I mention public sphere
throughout this essay I am referring to Habermas definition. Habermas

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: To prove that the United States should withdraw from the United
Nations
The time has come to recognize the U.N. for the anti American, anti freedom organization that it has
become. The time has come for us to cut off all financial help, withdraw as a member, and ask the
U.N. to find a headquarters location outside the United States that is more in keeping with the
philosophy of the majority of voting members, someplace like Moscow or Peking (Rousos, par. 30).
Those are the words of Barry Goldwater, the late 1964 presidential candidate and Republican Senator
from Arizona, calling for US withdrawal from the United Nations, and these concerns are as valid
today as they were almost four decades ago, if not more so. Since its inception, the United Nation s

Relationships Between A Journalist And The Relationship...
Journalist A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news or other current information
to the public. A journalist s work is called journalism. A journalist can work with general issues or
specialize in certain issues. However, most journalists tend to specialize, and by cooperating with
other journalists, produce journals that span many topics. For example, a sports journalist covers news

This applies specially to war reporters, but their editorial offices at home often do not know how to
deal appropriately with the reporters they expose to danger. Hence, a systematic and sustainable way

fragmented support programs exist so far.
The Museum in Washington, D.C. is home to the Journalists Memorial, which lists the names of over
2,100 journalists from around the world who were killed in the line of duty. The relationship between
a professional journalist and a source can be rather complex, a source can actually impact the direction
of the article written by the journalist. The article A Compromised Fourth Estate uses Herbert Ganz
metaphor to capture their relationship. He uses a dance metaphor The Tango to illustrate the co
operative nature of their interactions It takes two to tango . Herbert suggests that the source often leads

making. o It offends journalists professional culture, which emphasizes independence and editorial

The three religions are monotheistic; this is to mean that each one of them believes in the existence of
one deity. In Islam and Judaism, this is quite clear but in Christianity among some factions though
they still believe in one God, this God is believed to be made of three entities. This is, however, not a
denial of the one God but a way to show the complexity of religion (Learning centre, 2015). All the

Homelessness On The Rise Of Homelessness
Homelessness affects men, women, families, children, youth, and veterans. While structural factors,
like the unequal distribution of income and lack of affordable housing, cause homelessness, certain
vulnerabilities may determine who is at higher risk for homelessness. These include addictions, mental
illness, domestic violence, medical conditions, and lack of education or job skills. This research paper
will shed some light on the issue of homelessness and how we can prevents it with some suggested
solutions.
Homelessness on the rise Today, Homelessness in the US is becoming one of the top challenging
issues to fix. Recent available data shows an increase the number of the homeless between 2014 and
2015. On a single night in January 2014, 578,424 people were experiencing Homelessness meaning
they were sleeping outside or in an emergency shelter or transitional housing program. From 2014 to

percent and Homelessness decreased among every major subpopulation: unsheltered persons (10

Swot Analysis Of Chipotle Mexican Grill
Chipotle Mexican Grill is an American chain of fast food restaurants in the United States. The
company rose to prominence right from its inception in 1993. The company s founder Steve Elle
wanted to serve customer inexpensive and yet delicious food at the pace of a fast food restaurant. The
ability of Chipotle to serve, slow food, fast is what set it apart from its competitors and made it widely
popular. In 2012, Chipotle owned 1,458 restaurants all over the country and was serving 900,000
customers per day in 43 states. 1. SWOT Analysis a. Internal Analysis i. Strengths Chipotle s core
competency is its ability to serve its customers quickly. Chipotle creates orders quickly through its
infamous service line, this allows the company to serve 200 300 customers per hour. Another strength
of Chipotle is that it uses organically grown ingredients in all of its restaurants. It uses meat and dairy
products obtained from suppliers who practice humane farming and are conscious of animal ethics.
Moreover, Chipotle has started offering vegetarian alternatives which makes it popular among
vegetarians. Chipotle s network of reliable and approved suppliers with the help of regional
distribution centers is also a source of strength as it increases quality as well as operational efficiency.
While Chipotle has a low marketing budget, it stresses on consistent brand image and message in all
of its restaurants which results in a unified brand image. Finally, a strength for Chipotle is

A Statistical Test Essay
We live in a scientific world were the results of published research findings can dictate our very
existence. Yet, there is an increasing body of evidence that suggest that most publish research findings
are false (Ioannidis, 2005 page 0696). How can this be true? Part1: According to Ioannidis (2005), the
pre study probability of a relationship being true is R/ (R + 1). Where R is the ratio of the number of
true relationships to no relationships among those tested in the field (page 0696). The Null Hypothesis
(Ho) is what you want to disprove, what you want to prove to be not true. The Alternative hypothesis
(HA) on the other hand is what you want to prove to be true. Thus, in scientific research we are
looking to prove that relationships are true or to prove that they are not true. The power of a statistical
test is defined as the ability of the test to lead to a conclusion to accept the HA when in fact, the HA is
true (Wirtz, 2013). Also, since the probability of a statistical study depends on the prior probability,
statistical power, and the level of the observed P value, it means that the probability of a study finding
a true relationship is the power of 1 β (one type two error (Ioannidis, 2005 page 0696). Also, type 1
error is the probability of incorrectly rejecting a null hypothesis that should not be rejected (Wirtz,
2013). Factors that negatively affect the probability of true relationships are small studies, smaller
effect sizes, in a scientific field,

Hawthorne’s Use of Allegory
The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a short story that was first published in the 1836
edition of the Token and Atlantic Souvenir and reappeared over time in Twice Told Tales, a collection
of short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The short story narrates the events that follow Reverend Mr.
Hooper s decision to start wearing a black veil that obscures his full face, except for his mouth and
chin. Mr. Hooper simply arrives one day at the meeting house wearing the semi transparent black veil
and refuses from that moment on to take it off, which leads to the loss of his fiancée and isolation
from the world. Mr. Hooper even goes as far as to insist on burial in the black veil. Yet, what is crucial

This particular idea serves to underscore even further the hypocrisy of human nature and emphasize
the ironic aspects of the short story.
The themes of the story serve to explicate the universal nature of all human beings. These themes
include, for example, shame, guilt, the nature of sinning and morality. With regard to shame, whilst it
is true that the veil covers Mr. Hooper s face, it does at the same time expose the nature of sin as one
embedded deep inside humans. In other words, the veil exposes the sin existent in the world which
makes the townspeople grow more and more uncomfortable. These feelings of discomfort are thus the
result of being faced with the shame within. The more one has learned to ignore the sense of shame at
the sins committed, and the darkness surrounded by, the more he or she is incapable of facing Mr.
Hooper. This leads the discussion to the second theme in the short story: guilt s hidden nature. Indeed,
most townspeople are faced with guilt suppressed upon looking at Mr. Hooper as they have never had
to face a physical form of their guilt. However, Mr. Hooper s didactic usage of the veil serves as a
constant reminder of that which is rather forgotten: sins committed. Using this as a reason, many of
the townspeople chose to ignore Mr. Hooper instead of facing their own veils. However, the Reverend
convinces the townspeople that everyone shares sins no matter what attempt is made to

The Mass Of Mass Communication Essay
Modern life has become accustomed to the use and influence of mass communication. The telegraph,
gramophone, radio transmission, and moving images such as television are some of the earliest forms
of mass communication that became entangled with various capitalist government regulations and an
interpersonal mass audience. In the 1980 s a second media revolution began to emerge with the
technological advancements of digital convergence which is the ability to access a range of
multimedia content across a number media platforms with a number of devices. This essay will
discuss whether due to these advancements, is it time the idea of mass communication needs to be re
evaluated, and with the increasing using of multifunctional communication tools, whether or not the
mass communication era has ended.
Mass communication may be interpreted differently to a number of people. Many relate the method to
the shear number of people engaging in the type of communication, the mass of the people or size of
the audience. However others may focus of the second part of the word, communication and think of
mass communication in the traditional sense that it was based of the idea of exchange (Chafee
Metzger, 2001, pp. 355 356). Until recently, mass communication was the idea of connecting with a
large audience and a vast demographic, however that no longer applies due to the arrival of media
channels. The number of radio and television channels has dramatically risen along with the

The Role Of Women In Jean Racine s Phedre
Phedre illustrates the attitude of men toward women in the Age of Reason and political Absolutism, in
which men represent logic, order, and strength while women represent emotions, weakness, and
disorder. Using evidence from the play, discuss how Racine s Phedre reinforces the stereotype of
woman as a destructive force in nature, known as a femme fatale.
Phedre
The play, Phedre, by Jean Racine presents the attitude of men toward women in the Age of Reason
and political Absolutism. Political Absolutism, is a state which is governed by a ruling class namely a
monarch with complete authority; however, Age of Reason is often depicted by rationalism within
religion, society, philosophy and not by reason. The logic for men often represents logic, order, and
strength. However, women constitute the emotions of weakness and disorder which is a negative
connotation for women which existed in the Age of Reason and political Absolutism. Jean succeeds in
building her play based on the stereotype of woman as a destructive force in nature, known as a
femme fatale. Mainly, Racine uses quasi thinking in influencing her characters such as Theseus and
Hippolytus who represent logic and order, and Phedre, the main character, which is driven by
emotions and subsequently suffers from tragedies because of her actions. Essentially, the play opens
with the destruction of a family because of Phedre s emotions. A secret love affair between Phedre and

Human Capital As A Solution To Marx’S Problems With...
Human Capital as a Solution to Marx s Problems with Capitalism
Karl Marx, a German economic philosopher, argues in The Communist Manifesto that a capitalist
society allows the bourgeoisie, the owning class, to exploit the proletariat, the working class. Marx
rejects the idea that unions are a possible fix for the problems created by capitalism, but does not
consider the possibility of increasing human capital to solve the problems he sees with capitalism. By
increasing their human capital, the proletariat would gain independence from the bourgeoisie and be
able to profit off their labor, and the elimination of private property would become problematic.
To begin, I will explain why Marx believes that unions are insufficient solutions ... Show more content

Now, I will discuss the strength of Marx s argument for why the formation of unions is not a strong
enough solution to the problem of the bourgeoisie s exploitation of the proletariat. I agree with Marx
that the proposed solution of creating unions would not eliminate the exploitation of the proletariat.
Workers would still receive less than the value they create with their labor. The bourgeoisie continues
to possess all the power because the proletariat depends on them for their survival. However, it
appears that there is another cause for an increase in wages that would be problematic with Marx s
views that the bourgeoisie are exploiting the proletariat and the only solution is to eliminate private
property. This factor may be human capital, the skills, knowledge and experiences each person
possesses. Throughout his discourse, Marx seems to only consider physical capital and not human
capital. When human capital is included in Marx s arguments, some flaws in Marx s views are
realized. Therefore, I shall explain how the concept of human capital could be problematic to Marx s
views. First, unlike physical capital, everyone owns human capital including both the bourgeoisie and
the proletariat. If everyone has

Violence In EuripidesBacchae
Unabashedly, tragedy is brimming with violence and death, it reeks of blood and is strewn with
corpses (Henrichs 173). If it is not the precipice of the action, the plot of tragedy often revolves
around the build up to or the after effects of violence; what to do with the body, how to reintegrate
after the fact, and even what to do when violence is taken too far, such as in the Ajax. As a pervasive
force in classical antiquity, the audience of the City Dionysia would be all too familiar with the many
faces of violence throughout the cusping three decades of the Peloponnesian war leading up to 405
BC. Although it is flawed to attempt to condense tragedy into a single function, it is perhaps less so to
name one as a digestion of the everyday violence of the ancient world. In Euripides Bacchae, the motif
of violence is first presented by means of an enraptured herdsman speech that revels in the spectacle
of violent delights and foreshadows what is to come. This motif comes to a close when a second
messenger reveals the tragic reality of violence and Pentheus sparagmos while the chorus of bacchants
revels in their god s brutality. Through examining the chorus status and perspective on violence, the
staging behind Agave wielding Pentheus head, and the contemporaneous socio political climate in
Athens, the Bacchae can be examined as in dialogue with tragedy s tradition of violence.
The first messenger speech sets the stage for the traditional role of violence in tragedy.

What Are The Barriers Of Gender Equality
Today, the world is not doing as well as people would like: gender equality has yet to be achieved,
climate change is putting millions at risk, two hundred million people are unemployed, and people are
more stressed than ever. Trying to solve these world challenges, people are working more and more
hours, yet little progress is being made. The solution is rather simple: work less.
Women around the world are under represented in the workforce, making up less than 20% of CEO
positions, and, in America, fewer than 20% of Congressional positions are filled by women. Reasons
for this lack of representation may be due to prejudice, but it is important to recognize that women are
viewed as the primary child caregiver in most families. For this reason, many women take off work
for several months after childbirth and are often thwarted from higher positions because they take
leave. If both males and females had shorter work weeks, then both genders would be able to devote
more time to child care, allowing women to continue to work sooner and progress in their fields. In
addition, studies have shown that men who take paternity leave are more devoted to their families and
are 50% more likely to help their wives with domestic labor, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
Thus, the shorter work week would lead to both equal representation in the work place and at home,
subsequently, breaking the barriers of gender inequality.
Shorter work weeks will not only benefit parents, but they

  • 2. A Seminar On Education And Poverty In September of 2013, my sister passed away, leaving our family with more questions than answers and challenges that parallel with heartbreak. As a freshman trying to find my way at the University of Georgia, it seemed that I was going backwards compared to my peers and my grieving put more of a strain on my will to continue my studies. Pursuing any actions for bettering myself or my counterparts tended to feel overwhelming. Feelings of loneliness engulfed my state of mind, but what was most unbearable was my realization that I had no idea of how I was going to overcome this. I usually have a plan of what I would like to accomplish and who I strive to become, but at this stage of life, I felt as lost as ever. As months passed, I had the opportunity to attend a seminar on education and poverty. Although I was not interested in education, I attended to gain information for a class project. Through this seminar, I found the beginning of passion that I did not know I possessed. The presenters exposed the significant fact that students often times do not finish school due to their lacking in resources to finish. These self and material doubts affect students at every level of education. While focusing on my own challenges, I lost sight of the present, daunting challenges that others, whether they be my peers or younger students, face on a daily basis. Pity for these other students had not crossed my mind, but rather, an urgency to take action. Students must work so relentlessly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Disease Of Red Measles Or Measles Rubeola Rubeola, also called red measles or measles, is an acute viral disease that causes a red rash over the body. Measles is one of the most common and most deadly communicable childhood diseases. It is spread from one child to another through direct contact with droplets from the nose and throat. Sometimes, it is spread through air borne droplets from an infected child. This is a very contagious disease that usually consists of a rash, fever, and cough. The rubeola virus can live on surfaces for hours. The virus was first isolated in 1954 by Nobel Laureate John F. Enders and Thomas Peebles, who were careful to point out that the isolations were made from patients who had Koplik s spots, white spots under the tongue. The rubeola virus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Symptoms of measles begin to appear about seven to fourteen days after a person is infected, but can be as long as twenty days. Most cases start with a mild to moderate fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and sore throat. About three to five days later, a red rash appears. The rash begins at the hairline, then spreads down to the rest of the body. When the rash appears, the fever may be as high as 103°F to105°F. Symptoms may last for one to two weeks. Many cases are complicated by secondary infections caused by bacterial pathogens, mainly Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Haemophilus influenzae. These pathogens readily invade the body because measles damages the normal body defenses. Secondary infections most commonly cause earaches and pneumonia. Measles can be prevented by injecting an attenuated rubeola virus vaccine. At the time of the introduction of the vaccine in the early 1960s, there were about 400,000 cases of the disease were being reported each year in the United States, probably representing one tenth of the actual number of victims. The number of cases in the United States have declined to maybe just a few each year. In 1980 the worldwide incidence of rubeola was estimated to be 100 million with 5.8 million deaths. Globally, vaccination programs have lowered the number of cases dramatically since then, however, the decline in incidence has not been uniform among the different regions of ... After his demise, his son, Alexander, took up his fathers mantle and continued his work as a ruler. Thus began the reign of one of the greatest rulers in human history, Alexander the Great, who ruled almost all of the Mediterranean. Alexander s empire strectched from Greece to India, spreading Greek ideas throughout and many cities were named after the great ruler. Alexander s reign only lasted 13 years, but his impact has left a mark on human history as many cities throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe still bare his name and the fact that his death triggered the start of a new era. Income is a crucial indicator of the given standard of living of seniors and it also directly impacts their health. Currently in Canada, low income among seniors is at a record low. This has been largely attributed to the Canada s retirement income system, particularly the various pension plans and private savings. In 2003, the most susceptible to low income are single seniors, especially women, with a rate of 18.9% (155,000), compared with 14.7% (46,000) for senior men (4). In general, seniors are vulnerable to a range of chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, chronic heart diseases, arthritis and Alzheimer s disease which adversely influence their quality of life. These diseases also increase demands on the healthcare system (5). It was reported in 2012 that approximately 85% of seniors aged 65 to 79 years and about 90% of seniors aged over 80 years have at least one chronic condition (6). In 2004, about 1.7% of the total Canadian labour force were seniors. The number of Canadian seniors aged 65 or over participating in the labour force was approximately 300,000 (287,000 of them are employed and 9,000 actively looking for work) (7). • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Testimonial Silencing Testimonial silencing has two parts that corresponds with failures of the audience to reciprocate successfully and coerced silencing of the speaker by the audience. The former refers to testimonial quieting, which occurs when the audience, intentionally or unintentionally, fails to identify the speaker as a knower, owing to pernicious ignorance harmful reliable ignorance (Dotson 242). The latter refers to testimonial smothering, which is when an audience demonstrates testimonial incompetence with respect to the content of potential testimony so the speaker truncates her testimony (Dotson 245). A successful linguistic exchange requires the audience to both understand the speaker s words and understand what the speaker is doing with the words (Dotson 237). A failure to accomplish this, unintentionally or intentionally, is epistemic violence. Furthermore, in testimonial quieting, the audience is failing to hear and understand what the speaker is saying in her testimony. Because the speaker cannot force the audience to hear her/him, there is no reciprocity between audience and speaker, thus, it s a failed linguistic exchange. This pattern of failing to identify the speaker as a knower is more prevalent to certain groups of people who are systematically silenced (i.e. black women). This form of silencing is because of harmful reliable ignorance (pernicious ignorance) which may cause harms to one s intellect, epistemic agency, and intellectual traditions of entire groups. ... Instead of finding Jekyll, they find Hyde on the floor dead, making it seem like Hyde was the one who set up this warm scene. A likely explanation for this setup could be that a maid set everything up for her master; however, all of the servants and maids are locked out of the laboratory. Utterson describes all of Jekyll s servants and maids in the hall entranceway huddled together like a flock of sheep , and Poole explains that, for a week now, Jekyll has locked himself in his laboratory and not left once, scaring everyone who works in the household (Stevenson 28). Considering that no one is able to enter his laboratory in order to arrange this domestic scene, Hyde is the only character who could have organized the room accordingly. And that is not being exploited by capitalists (Nayyar 2006, 4). The process of globalization has changed the ways of human interaction and the flow of goods and services, people, information and ideas creating an interconnected single community that is continuously uniting many nations across borders. The emergence of easier accessibility to consumers needs has skyrocketed the production and consumption of goods and services. With a greater demand comes greater production and the twenty first century capitalist economies have changed patterns of free trade, rely on commodities and resources to be able to make profit and be integrated into the open market, benefitting from further economic growth. This change in trade patterns amongst different markets are based on product specialization and the division of labour to create employment opportunities, income and surplus benefits are extended to other parts of the globe. This duality is understood as interdependence between good and evil. In other words, good and evil exist in relationship with each other, thus without one, the other ceases to exist. However, it seems as if Jekyll wants to suggest that good and evil are independent and can be separated. This interpretation of duality shows that Jekyll simply misinterprets the relationship between good and evil. • 27. The Debate Over The Generation Everyone s been there; extended family gathered around the dinner table discussing life when someone makes the notorious comment; Get off your phone, your generation, all you care about is technology! The debate over Millennials being inadequate and too technology based has become frequent, the common argument from adults being that all Millennials care about is their phone. Yet adults have frequently stated this as they glance up from their phone as their fingers rapidly tap away on a screen. Adults can not continue to blame technology for Millennials lack of knowledge when they were the ones who raised us this way. Furthermore, contrary to belief, if anything technology has furthered Millennials growing intelligence, not damaged it. Therefore, although technological advances have been made, the common belief that Millennials are the dumbest generation is invalid due to the fact that millennials literacy and overall intelligence is increasing while the rigor of classes is skyrocketing. Technology seems to be the pinpoint of the argument of millennials being dumb. Millennials are always on their phone. Anytime something negative happens it always seems to relate back the that dumb phone. Yet contrary to this, technology has increased millennials intelligence levels, due to the fact that the digital world lowers barriers to self directed learning (Mizuko Ito Al.). • 28. The Public Sphere By Jurgen Habermas Essay In 1962, Jurgen Habermas published his theory of the public sphere as a way to ensure a functioning democratic society. His theory operates under the assumption that it is possible for people to engage in discourse while bracketing status differentials and to deliberate as if they were social equals. However, Habermas idea of the public sphere was greatly rooted in the history of bourgeois society specifically. Thus, the assumption that all citizens would have equal access to engage in discourse in the public sphere today is unlikely. In North America now, the population size is larger, the diverse interests have grown and the political and social powers have more influence over each other than ever before. Beginning with a discussion of Habermas work, The Public Sphere: An Encyclopedia Article, and Nancy Fraser s, Rethinking the Public Sphere: A Contribution to the Critique of Actually Existing Democracy , I shall use examples from feminist, indigenous and environmental movements in North America to illustrate the problems with Habermas assumption. This essay argues that no single individual can temporarily ignore their gender, history or private interests when deliberating in the bourgeois public sphere making it impossible for individuals to engage in public discussions as if they were social equals. First, it is necessary to define what a bourgeois public sphere is. When I mention public sphere throughout this essay I am referring to Habermas definition. Habermas ... • 36. A Statistical Test Essay We live in a scientific world were the results of published research findings can dictate our very existence. Yet, there is an increasing body of evidence that suggest that most publish research findings are false (Ioannidis, 2005 page 0696). How can this be true? Part1: According to Ioannidis (2005), the pre study probability of a relationship being true is R/ (R + 1). Where R is the ratio of the number of true relationships to no relationships among those tested in the field (page 0696). The Null Hypothesis (Ho) is what you want to disprove, what you want to prove to be not true. The Alternative hypothesis (HA) on the other hand is what you want to prove to be true. Thus, in scientific research we are looking to prove that relationships are true or to prove that they are not true. The power of a statistical test is defined as the ability of the test to lead to a conclusion to accept the HA when in fact, the HA is true (Wirtz, 2013). Also, since the probability of a statistical study depends on the prior probability, statistical power, and the level of the observed P value, it means that the probability of a study finding a true relationship is the power of 1 β (one type two error (Ioannidis, 2005 page 0696). Also, type 1 error is the probability of incorrectly rejecting a null hypothesis that should not be rejected (Wirtz, 2013). The short story narrates the events that follow Reverend Mr. Hooper s decision to start wearing a black veil that obscures his full face, except for his mouth and chin. Mr. Hooper simply arrives one day at the meeting house wearing the semi transparent black veil and refuses from that moment on to take it off, which leads to the loss of his fiancée and isolation from the world. This particular idea serves to underscore even further the hypocrisy of human nature and emphasize the ironic aspects of the short story. The themes of the story serve to explicate the universal nature of all human beings. These themes include, for example, shame, guilt, the nature of sinning and morality. With regard to shame, whilst it is true that the veil covers Mr. Hooper s face, it does at the same time expose the nature of sin as one embedded deep inside humans. In other words, the veil exposes the sin existent in the world which makes the townspeople grow more and more uncomfortable. These feelings of discomfort are thus the result of being faced with the shame within. The more one has learned to ignore the sense of shame at the sins committed, and the darkness surrounded by, the more he or she is incapable of facing Mr. Hooper. This leads the discussion to the second theme in the short story: guilt s hidden nature. Indeed, most townspeople are faced with guilt suppressed upon looking at Mr. Hooper as they have never had to face a physical form of their guilt. However, Mr. Hooper s didactic usage of the veil serves as a constant reminder of that which is rather forgotten: sins committed. Using this as a reason, many of the townspeople chose to ignore Mr. Hooper instead of facing their own veils. Using evidence from the play, discuss how Racine s Phedre reinforces the stereotype of woman as a destructive force in nature, known as a femme fatale. Phedre The play, Phedre, by Jean Racine presents the attitude of men toward women in the Age of Reason and political Absolutism. Political Absolutism, is a state which is governed by a ruling class namely a monarch with complete authority; however, Age of Reason is often depicted by rationalism within religion, society, philosophy and not by reason. The logic for men often represents logic, order, and strength. Human Capital as a Solution to Marx s Problems with Capitalism Karl Marx, a German economic philosopher, argues in The Communist Manifesto that a capitalist society allows the bourgeoisie, the owning class, to exploit the proletariat, the working class. Marx rejects the idea that unions are a possible fix for the problems created by capitalism, but does not consider the possibility of increasing human capital to solve the problems he sees with capitalism. By increasing their human capital, the proletariat would gain independence from the bourgeoisie and be able to profit off their labor, and the elimination of private property would become problematic. Now, I will discuss the strength of Marx s argument for why the formation of unions is not a strong enough solution to the problem of the bourgeoisie s exploitation of the proletariat. I agree with Marx that the proposed solution of creating unions would not eliminate the exploitation of the proletariat. Workers would still receive less than the value they create with their labor. The bourgeoisie continues to possess all the power because the proletariat depends on them for their survival. However, it appears that there is another cause for an increase in wages that would be problematic with Marx s views that the bourgeoisie are exploiting the proletariat and the only solution is to eliminate private property. This factor may be human capital, the skills, knowledge and experiences each person possesses. Throughout his discourse, Marx seems to only consider physical capital and not human capital. • 44. Violence In EuripidesBacchae Unabashedly, tragedy is brimming with violence and death, it reeks of blood and is strewn with corpses (Henrichs 173). If it is not the precipice of the action, the plot of tragedy often revolves around the build up to or the after effects of violence; what to do with the body, how to reintegrate after the fact, and even what to do when violence is taken too far, such as in the Ajax. As a pervasive force in classical antiquity, the audience of the City Dionysia would be all too familiar with the many faces of violence throughout the cusping three decades of the Peloponnesian war leading up to 405 BC. Although it is flawed to attempt to condense tragedy into a single function, it is perhaps less so to name one as a digestion of the everyday violence of the ancient world. In Euripides Bacchae, the motif of violence is first presented by means of an enraptured herdsman speech that revels in the spectacle of violent delights and foreshadows what is to come. This motif comes to a close when a second messenger reveals the tragic reality of violence and Pentheus sparagmos while the chorus of bacchants revels in their god s brutality. Through examining the chorus status and perspective on violence, the staging behind Agave wielding Pentheus head, and the contemporaneous socio political climate in Athens, the Bacchae can be examined as in dialogue with tragedy s tradition of violence. The first messenger speech sets the stage for the traditional role of violence in tragedy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. What Are The Barriers Of Gender Equality Today, the world is not doing as well as people would like: gender equality has yet to be achieved, climate change is putting millions at risk, two hundred million people are unemployed, and people are more stressed than ever. Trying to solve these world challenges, people are working more and more hours, yet little progress is being made. The solution is rather simple: work less. Women around the world are under represented in the workforce, making up less than 20% of CEO positions, and, in America, fewer than 20% of Congressional positions are filled by women. Reasons for this lack of representation may be due to prejudice, but it is important to recognize that women are viewed as the primary child caregiver in most families. For this reason, many women take off work for several months after childbirth and are often thwarted from higher positions because they take leave. If both males and females had shorter work weeks, then both genders would be able to devote more time to child care, allowing women to continue to work sooner and progress in their fields. In addition, studies have shown that men who take paternity leave are more devoted to their families and are 50% more likely to help their wives with domestic labor, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Thus, the shorter work week would lead to both equal representation in the work place and at home, subsequently, breaking the barriers of gender inequality.
