The Death Of The Police Officer Wilson
Every day, people make noise whether it be gibberish or intellectual thinking. It comes to many of us
naturally and we use our voices all the time to communicate with others, to sing, to yell, and to .....
But many of us are left to ask, what is voice? Voice is a way to express yourself intellectually, make
other minds think for themselves, and analyze the world around them causing change in society.
Ferguson, Missouri the town where 18 year old Michael Brown, an unarmed black man, was killed by
Officer Wilson, a white police officer on August 9, 2014. Protest had begun in Ferguson, but many of
the protester were nonviolent and felt the police were racially profiling black men. Three months later,
the Grand Jury released its verdict to not indict Officer Wilson. The verdict led to protests that became
violent quickly. The protester began to loot local business such as a McDonalds where they flat screen
TV s. People also broke into the liquor store that Michael brown stole the cigarillos from. The
protesters that broken into the liquor store stole sodas, chips, and other snack food items. Not only was
there looting, but there was many gunshots that rang in the town. According to Jon Belmar, the St.
Louis County Police Chief, ... personally heard about 150 shots fired. Belmar claims that none of his
police officers fired shots at protesters leading to people s conclusions that it must have been
protesters shooting. The next day, the town woke up to a city that was

Strategies in Planning

Topic: Strategies in Planning
I. Introduction: Strategic planning is an organization s process of defining its strategy, or direction, and
making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. In order to determine the direction
of the organization, it is necessary to understand its current position and the possible avenues through
which it can pursue a particular course of action. Generally, strategic planning deals with at least one
of three key questions: What do we do? , For whom do we do it? , How do we excel? In many
organizations, this is viewed as a process for determining where an organization is going over the next
year or more typically 3 to 5 years (long term), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of strategic planning mechanisms like formal planning is to increase specificity in business
operation, especially when long term and high stake activities are involved.
One of the core goals when drafting a strategic plan is to develop it in a way that is easily translatable
into action plans. Most strategic plans address high level initiatives and over arching goals, but don t
get articulated (translated) into day to day projects and tasks that will be required to achieve the plan.
Terminology or word choice, as well as the level a plan is written, are both examples of easy ways to
fail at translating your strategic plan in a way that makes sense and is executable to others. Often,
plans are filled with conceptual terms which don t tie into day to day realities for the staff expected to
carry out the plan.
The following terms have been used in strategic planning: desired end states, plans, policies, goals,
objectives, strategies, tactics and actions. Definitions vary, overlap and fail to achieve clarity. The
most common of these concepts are specific, time bound statements of intended future results and
general and continuing statements of intended future results, which most models refer to as either
goals or objectives (sometimes interchangeably). One approach recommends having short term goals,
medium term goals, and long term goals. In this model, one can expect to attain short term goals fairly
easily: they stand just slightly above one s reach.

Les Grands Boulevard And La Grande Jatte
Through my analysis and comparison of Les Grands Boulevard and La Grande Jatte I hope to convey
to the reader that these two paintings, although painted in different styles, both illustrate the need to
slow down and enjoy life. Les Grands Boulevards is a 20 1/2 x 25in. European oil on canvas painting
created by Pierre Auguste Renoir in 1875 during the impressionism movement ( Philadelphia Museum
of Art ). The painting is currently housed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art ( Philadelphia Museum
of Art ). A Sunday on La Grande Jatte is another European oil on canvas painting. Georges Seurat
started this painting in 1884 during the post impressionism movement and completed it in 1886 (
About This Artwork. ). In 1889 Seurat made one final change to La Grande Jatte, restretching the
canvas to 81 3/4 x 121 1/4in in order to add a painted border ( About This Artwork. ). The painting is
now located at the Art Institute of Chicago ( About This Artwork. ).
Renoir s use of blurred details, blended colors and optical effect of light and color in Les Grands
Boulevard show a fleeting moment of contemporary life in Paris in 1875.The painting depicts one of
the so called grands boulevard of Paris. Brought about by the industrial revolution, the boulevard was
a newly restored and modernized urban setting at the time Renoir painted it. The painting shows a
busy populated street with people going about their day. Amidst the busy street we see a man sitting

Spina Bifida is a neural tube defect that is present at birth. It is thought to be caused by a folic acid
deficiency in the first month of pregnancy. This disease can be either symptomatic or asymptomatic.
There are three types of Spina Bifida including: Spina Bifida Occulta, Spina Bifida Meningocele, and
Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele. The main treatment for Spina Bifida is surgery that occurs right after
birth to close the spinal opening and could include several more surgeries throughout the child s life.
Spina Bifida Occulta is usually asymptomatic. It could be undetected for years, and only found via
diagnostic procedures for another diagnosis completely. It may also present as a sacral dimple or a
small patch of hair on the infants back at birth. People diagnosed with Spina Bifida Occulta can lead a
normal life without interference of the disease. There is usually no treatment needed for this form of
Spina Bifida. (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2014)

of the spinal cord. Shunts may be placed at this time as well if they child was born with hydrocephaly.

lives including: bowel and bladder surgery to help with incontinence, frequency, and constipation,
they may also have surgery to correct deformities in feet, ankles, legs or backs. The child may need to
have their bladder enlarged by connecting the appendix to add more space causing less incontinence,

Enzyme Reaction Rate
Enzymes play a critical role in metabolic processes by speeding up chemical reactions. Enzymes
lower energy barriers by acting as a catalyst for a reaction. An example is hydrolysis that occurs in
glucose. Without enzymes glucose will still hydrolyze, but at a slow rate. With the right enzyme
hydrolysis will occur even more rapidly than before. Enzymes work by having a substrates enter their
active site. Induce fit (the substrates forms weak bonds with the enzyme causing the enzymes shape to
enfold the substrate) than occurs to the enzyme. It must be kept in mind however, that the enzymes
only work on specific substrates and not all of them also known as enzyme specificity. There are many
factors that may affect enzyme reaction rates. The pH and temperature of the environment that the
enzyme is in may denature the enzyme if it is not in the optimal area for the specific enzyme. If the pH
and temperature of the environment is in the optimal area than the enzyme will work at its best if not
than reaction rates may slow down. In competitive inhibition a competitive inhibitor mimics the
substrate. This causes the substrate not to enter the active site of the enzyme. Likewise there is
noncompetitive inhibition where a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final product then reacts the allosteric site of the first enzyme. This causes the first enzyme shape
to be altered, preventing the substrate from bonding to it a forming a product. Without the first key
enzyme to from a product none of the other enzymes further down the series can catalyze a reaction.
In the case of ATP, feedback inhibition is key to regulating the molecule and preventing energy from
being wasted. When ATP is very abundant catabolism slows down as the molecule binds to enzymes
inhibiting them. When ADP (a ATP molecule that had a phosphate group removed) is abundant than
they act as an activator promoting the catabolism of

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol
Statistically, based on reports from 2003, 99% of the total population ages 15 and over can read and
write (CIA Library). Thus, one can conclude illiteracy is not a crisis. However, The Human Cost of an
Illiterate Society by Jonathan Kozol, implies something different. Kozol emphasizes the hardship of
an illiterate, and briefly explains the importance of helping an illiterate without providing much of a
solution, while Kozol s essay was ineffective overall because of the lack of factual evidence and
flawed conclusions, his strategic use of tone, repetition and rhetorical questioning provided some
strength to his argument. By establishing a sympathetic tone, Kozol effectively appeals our emotions,
which provides slight strength to his argument. For example, Kozol explains his dream he experienced
where he was in the Soviet, Then I remember that my card was confiscated for some reason, many
years before. Around this point, I wake up in a panic (2). Kozol s tone illustrates how helpless the
illiterates are and wants to appeal to our emotion of sympathy as he draws comparison to the same
troubles and emotions he experienced in his dream as illiterates experience daily. That emotional
impact provided some strength to his argument because it allows us to imagine an experience, which
may be unfamiliar. Kozol insinuates that illiterates match logos printed on packages to distinguish the
differences amongst food. Kozol points out, The purchaser who cannot read and does not dare

Native American Humor Research Paper
Joking or humor can serve many different functions throughout society, across many different
cultures, religious beliefs, and political backgrounds. In a medical light, humor can aid in
rehabilitation and overcoming traumatic injuries. In Native American culture there is a deep history of
humor in both social and religious spectrums. Humor can serve as many social and religious functions,
especially in a historical context for Native American culture. There is an importance of teasing within
Native American families, categorized by common gentle teasing which serve as social function by
warming family relationships without compromising respect or use of sternness from elders. It can
also serve as a spiritual function for Native Americans as some tribes believe the first laugh of a child
to be a symbol of good humor in their life and ensures lifelong generosity. Humor is rooted deep into
Native American culture and has significant influence on young Native Americans. Understanding the

Some major challenges Americans faced during the War for Independence was the lack of
organization at the beginning of the war they experienced difficulty with training and organizing the

the war you would be imprisoned, abused or killed. The American Revolutionary War, caused turmoil

Epistemic Racism
Lastly, epistemic racial discrimination has left irreversible emotional and physical damage that
continues to haunt the Indigenous community. Epistemic racial discrimination refers to the positioning
of the knowledge of one racial group as superior to another, it includes a judgment of not only which
knowledge is considered valuable but is considered to be knowledge. In the context of Indigenous
health, the imposition of western knowledge systems and particularly the use of western science to
demonstrate the supposed inferiority of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of knowing
constitute acts of epistemic racism (Allan Smylie, p. 5, 2015).
Geddes writes about the Indigenous children who were ripped from their families and forced to attend
residential schools far away from their community. The intent was to strip them of their Indianess and
force upon them to become white (Geddes). There was a definite agenda to erase their memories of
their culture and be westernized. They were considered inferior beings and were not allowed to speak
their language, nor were they allowed to see their families. These Indigenous children were victims of
repetitive emotional, sexual and physical abuse in these residential schools. Irene painfully recalls her
time at Duck Lake Indian Residential where she was repeatedly sexually abused by the principal. At
the young age of twelve the principal sent her to be a maid for his friends without permission granted

Kaplan and David P. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an
organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides
the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and Norton, D.P.
1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based Costing or the
ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the organizations were able
to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach
that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer,
internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the
organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the
scorecard. This depicts the long term and short term success of the strategy. The outcome measures of
the balanced scorecard must represent the excellent prior performance and the performance drivers
that lead to the successful and accurate performance. (Kaplan, R. S. and Norton, D. P.

Philip Hamilton And Alexander Hamilton s Mental Health
Alexander Hamilton was one of America s foremost founding fathers. Hamilton s work in the army, in
the writing of and ratification of the constitution, his creation of the bank, and his successful political
career all made an important impact on early american society, most of which can still be seen today.
Although Hamilton accomplished so much in his short life, his last few years were filled with horrible
sufferings that would greatly affect his mental health. This degradation of Hamilton s mental health
would lead historians to advertise his symptoms from traumatic experiences, suicidal tendencies, and
appearances of manic depression. In order to fully understand what was happening to Hamilton s
mental health in the last couple of years of Hamilton s life, one must first understand Philip Hamilton
and his deadly duel with George Eacker, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr s duel, the symptoms of
trauma, suicidal tendencies, and bipolar affective disorder.
Philip Hamilton was Alexander and Eliza Hamilton s firstborn son. Philip was their eldest son, and he
was Alexander Hamilton s pride and joy. Smart, handsome, and on an impressive path, Philip
Hamilton was a rising star by the time he had graduated from college. After hearing about George
Eacker s Fourth of July oration, in which Eacker criticises Hamilton s financial system, and the
treasury department in general, Philip Hamilton grew unsettled and decided to confront George
Eacker. Chernow describes the meeting between Philip Hamilton and George Eacker as contentious
between both parties and shares of the constant threats of violence. Eventually, the two parted ways,
only to result in an immediate challenge of a duel by Philip Hamilton and Richard Price. The
argument between the two was harsh enough that Eacker and Price had a separate duel, albeit resulting
in nothing, before Hamilton and Eacker had a duel. Eacker and Hamilton both refused to apologize,
and a duel between the two was scheduled as soon as possible in New Jersey.
Asking for much needed advice from his father, Philip Hamilton received the advice to wait until
Eacker fired, and then raise his gun and shoot up into the air. Throwing away one s shot, Alexander
Hamilton argued, was a measure

Summary Of The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln
What was the most significant truth you learned from this book and what makes it so significant? How
will you apply this new knowledge to your future? Abraham Lincoln supported the Civil war as he felt
that it was necessary to prevent secession of the Southern States, even though the states had the right
to secede. He was against the institution of slavery expanding and he grew up with a family that
attended a Baptist church that opposed slavery. However, it is uncertain as to what Lincoln s views on
African Americans truly were as he appealed to his voters, white men. The most significant truth I
learned from Killing Lincoln was that there are horrible people from all walks of life; however, blind
hatred should not be condoned. Blind hatred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln while he was unarmed and sitting next to his wife
watching a play. To most American citizens he was a crazed murderer without a conscience, but to
others, such as the countless southern sympathizers as a result of the Civil War, he was a martyr for
their cause. At the time of Lincoln s assassination the war was essentially over, Booth killed because
he and his fellow southern sympathizers were sore losers. He did not murder to satisfy a sick
perversion; he killed to atone for the sins of the union. Booth went to church, he was well educated, he
was an actor, he had charisma, all of the traits of someone who should not have been a felon, but he
was. He was not perfect, he was racist, and he fervently supported his opinions, which is not
necessarily an evil action, but with freedom comes the potential for great actions of differing morals.
He was politically motivated to assassinate Lincoln, he was not insane. He believed that the best
country in the world was the United States before the Civil War, and like Lincoln did with his
presidency and the Emancipation Proclamation, he made great efforts to enact changes in radical
ways. However, I believe that the killing of another human

that is deactivating, electron withdrawing. The effects of the resulting substitution patterns will be

Stonehenge and its Astronomical Significance Stonehenge is a megalithic monument found in
Wiltshire, United Kingdom. It was built in three phases. The first phase was the earthwork monument

stone monument that was built in 2550BC.1 This essay will focus on the final phase of the stone
monument. This final phase of Stonehenge consists of nine main components that will be used in this
essay. Firstly there is the sarsen circle, this is the outer ring of stones which are made out of sandstone,
and it is a full circle of these stones standing straight up and interlocking stones above.1 The next
layer inward is the full circle of bluestones, these stones are not actually blue but rather gray and red.1

one of the substances that people have been using to self medicate in Ireland for generations. There is
also a large issue with hard drugs in Northern Ireland, this has become a huge issue that Ireland has
not seemed to do be able to do anything about. Ireland has a large drug issue that stems from years of
violence and mayhem, this drug problem only causes more violence of its own. Ireland cannot move
towards a more lasting peace until they do all that is in their power to stop the rampant drug abuse that
is in their country. The people of Northern Ireland have been surrounded by violence for years, many
have added to it, and many more have been hurt by it. These wounds are not always physical they are
also mental as well, and that type of wound is much harder to heal. It is because of violence in that the
people in Northern Ireland have turned to self medication. One of the most common forms of self
medication is the consumption of alcohol. A 2010 study found that the average

The Impact Of The 1763 Treaty Of Paris
The 1763 Treaty of Paris was signed between the Great Britain, Spain, France and Portugal on 10th
February 1763. This treaty was signed after The Great Britain emerged a victor over Spain and France
during the Seven Years War. This treaty officially put an end to the Seven Years War also referred to as
the French and Indian War in the North America. Further, the signing of this treaty also was the start
of the era of the British domination outside Europe. In relation, this paper will examine the
concessions that were forced upon France by England as well as what England gave in return. Also,
this paper will discuss the significant role played by New World possessions in the treaty. In addition,
this paper will also assess the European balance of power and the philosophy of mercantilism.
In the 1763 Treaty of Paris, England and France returned most of the territory that they each captured
during the Seven Years War. There were various concessions that were forced upon France by England
who were the victors of the war. At the time of the war, Great Britain captured the French colonies
such as Dominica, Canada, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, Tobago and the
Grenadines. In addition, England also captured the Senegal River and its settlements, the French
factories in India, the slave trading station at Gorée and the Spanish colonies of Havana and Manila

Western Civilization Essays
Western Civilization from 1589 to 1914 had many specific changes that contributed to the structure of
the western world before World War I. In the absolutism state sovereignty is embodied in the person of
the ruler. Kings were absolute kings and were resposible to no none except god. In the seventeenth and
eighteenth centuries absolute rulers had to respect the fundamental laws of their land. They had to
control competing jurisdictions, institutions or groups that were interested in their territory. They
regulated religious sects. France of Louis was the classic model of absolutism. Louis XIV, quot; the

Inquisition for heresy in 1633 and forced to recant his views. The scientific revolution caused the
Medieval Universities to provide frame world for new science. The renaissance stimulated by science
rediscovering ancient mathematics and supporting scientific investigations. The scientific community

technology was weak, the scientific revolution had little effect on daily life before the 19th century.
The Enlightenment also had its benefits to the western world. The Enlightenment was an intellectual

Uranium in Geobacter and Its Effects Essay
Just as Geobacter species have been utilized as a means for bioremediation in Rifle Mill, Colorado, so
too can they be implemented in the Navajo Nation to metabolize soluble uranium found in
underground water sources. Uranium (U) is a radioactive element which in its soluble form (VI)
causes a multitude of serious health conditions (Craft et al, 2004). Uranium is present in the
environment as a result of leaching from natural deposits and emissions from the nuclear industry
(WHO, 2003). Uranium salts present in a water supply can be an extreme detriment to public health as
the majority of human consumption of soluble uranium can occur through a contaminated water
source (WHO, 2003). In recent years microbes have been investigated as well ... Show more content

highest level when acetate was at its lowest concentrations. Although these experimental findings are
not concrete evidence that acetate supports growth of Geobacter species it definitely suggests it

Romeo And Juliet Rhetorical Analysis
In Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare uses oxymora to help describe complicated human emotions. People
can have two opposing emotions such as love and hate. This is accuratly protrayed throughout the play
but mostly with the character of Juliet. For example Juliet uses the oxymoron fiend angelical in her
speech. This oxymoron means devil angle. Representing the fact that Juliet is struggling with her
interpation of Romeo character after he killed Tybalt. She thinks he may have the same traits as the
devil such as cruelness and wickedness. But her love for him makes her find it hard to belive that that
can be possible. She thinks of an angle in their love. Pure and happy is what she sees him as and
subconciously wishes he was.

The Stolen Party By Liliana Heker
Imagine being the most amazing helper in the world, and the suddenly realizing that you are nothing
but a paid helper. Well thats what the short story The Stolen Party by Liliana Heker is all about. The
adventures Rosaura the maid s daughter and her experience of going to her first rich persons party and
how she interprets it. Throughout the story we see that Rosaura does certain tasks for the owner of the
house Señora Ines and at the end of the party she is paid for these task. We can interpret this in many
ways, but for this essay we will say that Señora Ines did right to pay Rosaura at the end of the day and
that she was teaching rosaura a valuable lesson in life, and that she was wrong to not have taken the
money. Throughout the story we see that Señora Ines is clearly using Rosaura as a maid, that Rosaura
is still enjoying the party even thought she is working and also near the end Señora Ines gives Rosaura
the money so she realize the work she has done does not go without reward. These are clear arguments
that Señora Ines is teaching Rosaura a lesson in life.
During the party Señora Ines gives Rosaura certain jobs throughout the night, reinforcing the fact that
she is using Rosaura as help, she does not give over bearing tasks to Rosaura because she still wants
her to enjoy the party cause in Señora Ines s eyes she is also still a guest to the party. The author really

Many Beliefs Influence Our Lives Today
Many beliefs influence our lives today. In fact one of the most well known movie series today, was
influenced by a belief, called Norse Mythology. That movie series is Lord of the Rings! Many of the
main characters and items come from Norse mythology. Such as, the elves, the enchanted rings, the
dwarves, and other realms. Most people only know one or two deities from Norse Mythology, like
Thor and Loki. While most people in the world are more familiar with the beliefs of the Ancient

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Supply chain management is a major concern in many industries as companies realize the importance
of creating an integrated relationship with their suppliers and customers. Managing the supply chain
has become a way of improving competitiveness by reducing uncertainty and improving service. One
aspect of successfully managing the supply chain requires that a company understand their logistical
strategies and practices.
Personal interviews with logistics managers employed by firms from the Twin Cities Round Table
suggest the following issues are important to supply chain management.

Summary Of The Black Walnut Tree
The Black Walnut Tree
The Black Walnut Tree by Mary Oliver begins with the line My mother and I debate . There are two
characters introduced: the narrator and her mother. In a typical family, there is a mother, daughter, and
father. The lack of a father in this introduction stands out. This is furthered by the line two women
trying / in a difficult time to be wise . The author highlights the lack of the father once again by saying
two women , in order to clearly demonstrate the lack of male, fatherly figure. Lacking a fatherly figure
makes the phrase a difficult time more meaningful; it implies that not only has the family become
poor, the family has also lost its patriarch. Later in the poem, however, the narrator dream[s] / of my
fathers out of Bohemia / filling the blue fields . The author uses alliteration here with blue and
Bohemia , and even further back with brighter and blood . The use of the letter b is kind of forceful
and proud, which entails with the message the poem is sending. The imagery in this part of the poem
is also very vivid. The narrator says that her ancestors planted and by imagining it, she implies that
she believes that they planted the walnut tree in her backyard. Instead of using ancestors , the author
chooses to use the word fathers . This use of metonymy fills the gap in the family of two women from
earlier. Knowing that there is no father in the picture, this revelation of ancestors as fathers makes the
ancestors far more

Essay On Black Men In Public
The stories Black Men in Public and Champions of the World relate to me in similar ways. Authors
Staples and Angelou have had gone through challenging experiences and have been discriminated and
stereotyped; they share my beliefs that we should not judge by someone s skin color or by appearance.
I have not myself been through situations of racism to that extreme but I have witnessed
discrimination and stereotyping. When we first moved to Strasburg it was difficult for my father to get
a good job. I have seen my dad get declined a job because of his neck tattoo and appearance and not
by his knowledge of the job. My father overcame the obstacles of stereotyping and now has a well
paying job up in Stonewall Jackson, VA. Both authors overcome feeling uncomfortable to the public
and altering public spaces, and they rise and move along with life, as I did myself, trying to
understand rather than judge, trying to build tolerance and acceptance rather than disharmony and
anger. Both the stories relate to discrimination and segregation amongst African Americans. In the

Deborah Gilboa s Hey, Jimmy Kimmel, Find A Different Funny
Analysis Essay The general argument made by Deborah Gilboa, MD in her work Hey, Jimmy
Kimmel, Find a Different Funny is that although it may be harmless fun tricking your kids, it can also
change their behavior. More specifically, Dr. Gilboa argues that tricking your kid for a laugh can have
a negative impact on the relationship of the family. She writes, parents shock and betray their kids for
a laugh . In this passage, Dr. Gilboa is implying that telling your kids that you ate their candy or give
them a bad Christmas present is a very bad idea and it will degrade the trust between the parent and
the kid. In conclusion, Dr. Gilboa believes that parents should not lie to their kids for a cheap laugh. In
the end the doctor tried to persuade Jimmy Kimmel by explaining that children are not mentally
developed, there are negative consequences from the parent s action, and using strong word choice. ...

In the beginning, Yuma was a just a small town that would continuously be flooding. Yuma wanted to
make something out of the small floodplain town so they decided to try to control the Colorado river

of water to the Yuma Valley. Many corporations helped with the redirect of the water flow. I m not
sure if the Yuma people realized that with the construction of the dam, their small town would soon be

The dams prevented the transportation of steamboats from going upriver. The dams made the water
levels fluctuate and made the use of steamboat transporting goods unsafe and making it unsafe
because there wasn t enough clearance for the boats to move through without knowing if you were
going to make it through. To turn this around a few positive effects on Yuma County was in 1931 the
California Seven Party Agreement that states that Yuma County would be given water to use for their
crops. The 1931 California Seven Party Agreement states that the Palo Verde Irrigation District, the

Improving Economic And Social Status Of A Region
Introduction Presently, changes are being experienced in areas where development projects aimed at
improving the economic and social status of a region are being carried. These changes happen to
affect the environment within which the projects are being carried and they often call for strategies to
be developed by the developing body to make sure that these impacts are reduced significantly (Beer,
Au and Hall n.d.). Despite different development projects aiming at bringing about some positive
changes in the society or in a given setting, studies show that the same projects may lead to conflicts
between the environment and the human activities being carried out in that particular region. Initially,
the campaign for economic growth was viewed as the key for increasing the standards of living in a
given region but very little attention was given to the social and environmental sensitivity and impacts
that accompanied these projects (Chen, Liu and Liaw 2011). As a result, there has been a growing
need to reduce the impacts of the projects as well as making sure that the long term benefits of the
projects are maximized in leading to sustainability of the projects. Therefore, in the case of pipeline
industry, there are a number of impacts that the industry exposes to the environment as cases of spills
may happen as well as destruction of the environment as the pipelines are laid (Even and Porter 2012).
These impacts may be reduced and the sustainability of the projects may be

Rational Solutions To The Cold War
Rational Solutions for Emotional Problems
As Carl von Clausewitz famously stated, War is merely a continuation of politics by other means. He
could not have been more accurate in the case of the Cold War, which came more than a century after
his death. The Cold War, being a war of competing ideologies as well as competing nations and
militaries, was focused more on political conflicts than military ones, thus giving it the moniker of
being a cold war. Yet while the United States of America, the leader of the liberal democratic side, did
realize the importance of politics in the war, it was not so adept in understanding the political climate
of the areas in which the Cold War was hottest. It is undoubtedly true that the American policymakers
of the war understood its battles better than the ordinary Korean or Vietnamese when it came to facts
and figures; at the same time, when it came to understanding the emotions the battles brought to its
various participants, the policymakers were often seemingly clueless. The United States, all
throughout the Cold War, showed an inability to understand the emotional climate of its chosen
battlegrounds and the emotional impact its choices had on them, and constantly offered rational
solutions to issues with emotional roots. This mistake impacted the American involvement in the Cold
War, and should serve as a lesson from which the US evaluates its current actions. After all, as the
leader of the free world, the United States still

The Influence Of Impressionism In The Art Of Art And Art
The Rococo style was popular in France during the 1700 s after the days of Versailles and into the
days of the aristocratic women hosting salons. Rococo artists sold their works to the wealthy people of
society to decorate their lavish salons to awe their guests. The artwork gave the salons their sense of
luxury and sensuality with scenes of classic love stories and lacey dresses. After the impressionist
movement came the post impressionist movement in France. This movement was less unified then
movements before it. These artists were experimental in finding a new way to represent their world
and imagination. Also starting in France during the 1930 s after the Great War came the Surrealist
movement. Following the teachings of Freud, Surreal artist dove into their minds to find the
inspiration for their irrational creations. The Rococo movement focused on creating an atmosphere of
sensuality and luxury in the social salons. The use of bright color in the love stories, extreme detail
portraying naughty scenes and nature is how the artist chose to create their work. They told classical,
fanciful love stories to the wealth French society. In contrast to this fanciful style the geared towards
the wealthy, the post impressionists chose to use art as a way of expression and showing their
imagination while experimenting with different styles. Post impressionist used imagination and
science to show their scenes with color and stiff figures. The Surrealists chose to further this

Compare And Contrast Andrew Jackson And The Democratic Party
Who would believe me if I said for a short time in American history there was only one political
party? Well, from the years 1812 to 1824 the Republican Party was the only political party in the U.S.
Due to an increasing amount of voter interest the election of 1828 saw the first presidential candidates
from two separate parties. Andrew Jackson was the representative from the Democratic Party, and
Henry Clay represented the Whig Party. Both Democratic and Whig parties impacted America in
many ways during the 19th century, but one in particular stood out significantly amongst the other.
Soon after the war of 1812, the Federalist Party collapsed, leaving just one political party in the U.S.
for over a decade. It was not until the election of 1824 that there was an emergence of a second party
system. As stated previously one party led by Andrew Jackson was the Democrats. The Democratic
Party developed when Andrew Jackson was elected president. The democrats believed in helping the
common man. They stayed out of state affairs, favored the working class, and were tolerant of
immigrants. The Whig party which consisted of mainly prosperous people formed in opposition to the
Democratic Party. They believed that the federal government should be actively involved in the
economy to stimulate growth. They were also in favor of tariffs to protect infant industries and
internal improvements.

World War 2 Tanks Essay
Patrick Easler
Professor Pfister
Hist 4344
3 December 2014
The Tanks of World War II World War II was the first war to heavily employ tanks. The tanks ranged
in variety for each of the individual nations. It has been said that the German Panzer tank was top dog
on the battle field during the war but especially at the beginning of the war. This statement although
true is not because the common belief that they were built better than other nation s tanks but because
German strategy and the preparedness of the tanks themselves and the crews operating them was
vastly better than competing nations such as France and the Soviet Union. The first tank was initially
invented in World War 1 by Britain. Tanks in the First World War represented a brilliant idea but a
poor execution. The tanks of that war moved at about a walking speed and constantly needed repairs
because of how undependable they were. After the war however the Tanks offensive potential was
recognized and each nation began research into a better tank to avoid the deadlock imposed on the last
war due to modernized weapons and old time tatctics. Luckily tanks are in fact vehicles and were
often made by similar plants as cars were, this meant ss the automotive industry advanced with new
engines, new transitions, new ways of breaking so did the Tanks by association. It was not however
until the start of the second war that the design of tanks truly advanced in improvements, weaponry,
and armor. But as these innovations

Rhetorical Analysis of The Shawshank Redemption Essay
Rhetorical Analysis of The Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption is an inspiring story
about Andy Dufreine and his efforts to maintain hope in horrible situations. The directors used many
effective methods that displayed signs of hope in such a horrible place. Andy maintained hope by
distracting his mind and always staying occupied. Andy was also inspired to survive by helping others
find hope in life.
The creators of this movie used several effective, and often subtle, methods to illustrate the hope
found in Andy and his surroundings. Andy was always portrayed as a clean cut and well groomed
prisoner with his shirt always buttoned and his hair always combed. This self respect was in great
contrast to the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first distraction for Andy was the rock hammer, which allowed him to keep physically occupied.
The rock hammer allowed Andy to stay optimistic about returning to a normal life by reminding him
how life was on the outside. The rock hammer was also very important and symbolic in Andy s
escape. His escape was portrayed as glorious and represented the final result of keeping hope. Andy
was assigned to the library, which built up to the largest events in his pursuit of hope. He was
presented with the opportunity to help the guards with financial advising and filling out tax forms,
which virtually removed Andy from the prison life and let him operate almost completely as if he were
at his old job. His job allowed him gain the respect of the guards, which relieved some of the
awfulness of prison life. Andy s attempt to enlarge and develop the library was another distractions for
him. His constant letter writing to request funds for expanding the library took some of Andy s time
and allowed him to focus his mind on things other than prison. After his years of requests were finally
answered with books and eventually annual funds Andy and Red were presented with the full time job
of maintaining the new, huge library. These new responsibilities were key in making their lives
bearable and in lessening the difficulties of prison. The actual receiving of the books and funds also
inspired the men and gave

Essay On Breaking Through The Great Firewall
Breaking Through the Great Firewall of China
Within the United States, the first amendment, freedom of speech includes the cyber web. However,
the government may try to examine personal information to protect its citizens from planned
terroristic activities. Even so, these terrorists are allowed to say whatever they want, but it does not
mean it will be ignored and not taken as a literal threat by the government. Throughout other parts the
world, however, countries rely on communicating through means of the internet as ways to spread
propaganda. In countries like China specifically, their government censors its citizens to prevent the
spreading of propaganda or other radicalism. However, due to the fact that China s strategy is so ...

This proves that China, at all costs, censors its citizens from accessing history the government deems
potentially causing further protest.
Now, many Chinese citizens are attempting to access these applications and searches without
censorship by connect[ing] to virtual private networks that provide them with communications
channels to servers outside the Chinese mainland (Bradsher 4). Though, many citizens have found
loopholes in order to post their messages to these websites. For example, on Weibo (the Chinese
version of twitter), if a user were to post using a specific keyword, the post would automatically be
deleted, if not manually by a superior on the site if it slipped through the system. However, because
the use of abbreviations, neologisms, homophones, and homographs by users, many political satirists,
revolutionists, or regular citizens find themselves sliding through the cracks thus escaping the
censoring governments reach (Wang and Mark 5). In addition, because the government also changes
from time to time, a man named Yu Jia, a government critic stated that Today s China is very different
from Chairman Mao s China. I think then, it used to be like an iron slab, and there was only really one
idea. It was completely impermeable. But now, it s more like a fishnet, and there are holes (Jia, Han
and Fu 4). This further proves the argument that legislation in regard to behavior online is too varied

Paganism Vs Vegetarianism
Imagine if the apocalypse happened and the only viable food was the family dog, would it be immoral
to eat the dog to survive? What if instead of a dog, it was the family s pig? The majority of American
people would believe it s more morally justified to eat the pig than the dog which reduces the pig to a
mere piece of bacon. The United States is a profit driven country which is reflected by their
mistreatment of farm animals and can be seen by its peoples anthropocentric and hypocritical views.
The Animal Welfare Act is the only Federal law that manages animal treatment in the means of
transport, research, and by dealers (USDA). Although this law conveys the impression that all animals
will have a basic standard of treatment, this isn t the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This comes to show that the support for veganism and vegetarianism is an ecological, ethical, or
health concern issue, Nearly all plant eaters have fermenting vats (enlarged chambers where foods sits
and microbes attack it). Ruminants like cattle and deer have forward sacs derived from remodeled
esophagus and stomach. Horses, rhinos, and colobine monkeys have posterior, hindgut sacs. Humans
have no such specializations.. The short canines in humans are a functional consequence of the
enlarged cranium and associated reduction of the size of the jaws. In archeological sites, broken
human molars are most often confused with broken premolars and molars of pigs, a classic omnivore
(VRG). Although there is evidence to back up humans being omnivores, is it morally justified for
humans to eat meat when survival is not a threat? If one s morals say no, there s many diets that exist
that don t include animals. A vegan diet consists of not consuming any animal products. Humans
choose this diet for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is to cut down on animal cruelty.
Jonathan Safran Foer talks about the morality of harming animals for food in his book Eating Animals,
What our babysitter said made sense to me, not only because it seemed true, but because it was the
extension to food of everything my parents had taught me. We don t hurt family members. We don t
hurt friends or strangers. We don t even hurt upholstered furniture. My not having thought to include
animals in that list didn t make them the exceptions to it. It just made me a child, ignorant of the world
s workings (Foer). This portrays how humans have a hierarchy of what is acceptable and what is not.
One s treatment of animals comes from this cultural hierarchy. In different cultures, the hierarchy will
shift, for example, within parts of the Jewish religion and culture

Pinchback Essay
Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback, commonly known as P.B.S. Pinchback, was the first African
American elected as a governor of a US state. Pinchback was born in Georgia in 1837 to a former

the First Louisiana Volunteers, which was an all white group then he left to create an all black
volunteer unit called the Corps d Afrique. After the war, Pinchback began his career in politics in New

causing Pinchback to become the new governor. Even though his term was only 36 days, he was able
to effectively govern by sanctioning 10 legislative bills. After his term as governor, Pinchback was
elected to the United States Senate but had his seat taken from him to due racially motivated actions.
Pinchback made history for his ability to obtain political power during the reconstruction era of the

Importance Of Expressive Communication In The Jewish Culture
Expressive communication is a common trend among Jews, as well as being very verbal in how and
what they are feeling. Humor is also a frequent method of communication among the Jewish people.
Humor will be used in a way that makes fun of themselves. Though they can make jokes toward
themselves and other Jews, jokes from non Jews about Jews are not usually accepted or appreciated
(Schwartz, 2004). Elderly Jews towards the end of their life can come across as chronic complainers.
It is just important to remember that expressiveness about how and what they are feeling is part of the
culture. It may take some time a and patience to determine and assess pain levels due to their
outspoken complaints (Schwartz, 2004). Space within the Jewish Culture Some Jews are more
sensitive to space than other types. Orthodox Jews are very conscientious when it comes to personal
space, especially when dealing with the opposite sex. Orthodox Jews, both men and women, will often
not shake the hand of the opposite sex. This comes from the Code of Jewish Law, forbidding a man to
smell the scent of a strange women, to look upon her hair, or even to look at her pinky finger
(Schwartz, 2004). Older Jewish members and those who are nearing the end stages of life, will often
want to have family and other Jews close by. For example, if there are multiple Jews in a nursing
home, they would prefer to live in close proximity to each other just because of that Jewish connection
and understanding of one

Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations
Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases
their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as
compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be
a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus
remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they
are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with
hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15
infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive
scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as
infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who
have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer,
Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with
individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations.
Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses
such as measles, mumps, and polio that unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. For

Essay Comparing My Last Duchess And My Ex-Husband
My Last Duchess, written by Robert Browning, is simply about a male who was not specially
treasured by his, now dead, spouse. The parody of Browning s poem, My Ex Husband, written by
Gabriel Spera, is in a woman s point of view pondering on a past relationship where she felt she was
not properly respected. In both poems, the speakers are reflecting on past relationship conflicts
pertaining to the importance they had in their spouse s lives. The speakers in My Last Duchess and
My Ex Husband each have different personalities and values, which prompts each individual to react
in different ways.
In Browning s poem, My Last Duchess, the speaker is concerned with the rank of importance he
acquires in his wife s life. The speaker s personality comes off as angry, self centered, and greatly
annoyed. One time the speaker portrays these an annoyed quality is when he stated as if she ranked
my gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift (Browning, 33 34). The speaker s spouse
was brought equal amounts of joy by marriage as she was by the little things in life. The speaker could
not fathom the fact that his spouse was not putting him, her husband, ... Show more content on

She reflects back on memories of her husband flirting with other women and being fulfilled on his
own, without his wife (Spera, 24 28). The speaker in My Ex Husband seemed to be morally stronger
than the speaker in My Last Duchess. The speaker asks herself Who d lower herself to put up with shit
Like that (Spera, 31 32). For the speaker to realize this, question herself, and expel herself from the
situation, divorce, shows how she cherished herself along with the well being of her husband. Her
husband was searching for happiness in alternative options, which his wife could not give to him. For
this reasons, the relationship was ended for the better of both of

World Order Research Paper
The world order, in general, refers to the economic, political or social state of affairs prevailing in the
world at a given time and the corresponding effect this has on the different relationships countries
have among each other. In this essay, I will argue that the world order is not in fact changing and that
we are not witnessing a power shift from the West to the rest of the world. To prove this, I will analyse
in terms of hard and soft power how the West is still the more dominant party. Firstly, I will compare
the military and economic power of the US and China and come to the conclusion that the US is the
more dominant power. Next, I will demonstrate how in terms of foreign policy and political power the
US commands more soft power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could, therefore, be argued that these increased political tensions may cause the US to lose key allies
and in turn help China become the more favoured country. However, in recent times, China has proven
to be arrogant, aggressive and rude when it comes to executing its foreign policy. Many countries,
including Japan and India, claim to find it increasingly challenging to cooperate with China and this
has done nothing but push said countries towards the US and cemented the US s global power.
Therefore, it is clear that even in terms of soft power, the US scores much higher than China and as a
result there will be no shift in power which re emphasizes the fact that the world order is not changing.
In conclusion, I have argued that the world order is not changing. In order to prove this, I have first
established that in terms of hard power (militarily and economically) the US is the more dominant
power and as a result there appears to be no power shift. Furthermore, I have shown that even in terms
of soft power (using foreign aid and foreign policy) the US still scores ahead of China, once again
indicating no signs of a power

  • 3. Strategies in Planning Sharyn A. Quelitano BSIE III 2 Topic: Strategies in Planning I. Introduction: Strategic planning is an organization s process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. In order to determine the direction of the organization, it is necessary to understand its current position and the possible avenues through which it can pursue a particular course of action. Generally, strategic planning deals with at least one of three key questions: What do we do? , For whom do we do it? , How do we excel? In many organizations, this is viewed as a process for determining where an organization is going over the next year or more typically 3 to 5 years (long term), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of strategic planning mechanisms like formal planning is to increase specificity in business operation, especially when long term and high stake activities are involved. One of the core goals when drafting a strategic plan is to develop it in a way that is easily translatable into action plans. Most strategic plans address high level initiatives and over arching goals, but don t get articulated (translated) into day to day projects and tasks that will be required to achieve the plan. Terminology or word choice, as well as the level a plan is written, are both examples of easy ways to fail at translating your strategic plan in a way that makes sense and is executable to others. Often, plans are filled with conceptual terms which don t tie into day to day realities for the staff expected to carry out the plan. The following terms have been used in strategic planning: desired end states, plans, policies, goals, objectives, strategies, tactics and actions. Definitions vary, overlap and fail to achieve clarity. The most common of these concepts are specific, time bound statements of intended future results and general and continuing statements of intended future results, which most models refer to as either goals or objectives (sometimes interchangeably). One approach recommends having short term goals, medium term goals, and long term goals. In this model, one can expect to attain short term goals fairly easily: they stand just slightly above one s reach. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Les Grands Boulevard And La Grande Jatte Through my analysis and comparison of Les Grands Boulevard and La Grande Jatte I hope to convey to the reader that these two paintings, although painted in different styles, both illustrate the need to slow down and enjoy life. The painting is currently housed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art ( Philadelphia Museum of Art ). A Sunday on La Grande Jatte is another European oil on canvas painting. • 8. Enzyme Reaction Rate Enzymes play a critical role in metabolic processes by speeding up chemical reactions. Enzymes lower energy barriers by acting as a catalyst for a reaction. An example is hydrolysis that occurs in glucose. Without enzymes glucose will still hydrolyze, but at a slow rate. With the right enzyme hydrolysis will occur even more rapidly than before. Enzymes work by having a substrates enter their active site. Induce fit (the substrates forms weak bonds with the enzyme causing the enzymes shape to enfold the substrate) than occurs to the enzyme. It must be kept in mind however, that the enzymes only work on specific substrates and not all of them also known as enzyme specificity. There are many factors that may affect enzyme reaction rates. The pH and temperature of the environment that the enzyme is in may denature the enzyme if it is not in the optimal area for the specific enzyme. If the pH and temperature of the environment is in the optimal area than the enzyme will work at its best if not than reaction rates may slow down. In competitive inhibition a competitive inhibitor mimics the substrate. This causes the substrate not to enter the active site of the enzyme. Likewise there is noncompetitive inhibition where a ... In the case of ATP, feedback inhibition is key to regulating the molecule and preventing energy from being wasted. • 9. The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol Statistically, based on reports from 2003, 99% of the total population ages 15 and over can read and write (CIA Library). Thus, one can conclude illiteracy is not a crisis. However, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society by Jonathan Kozol, implies something different. Kozol emphasizes the hardship of an illiterate, and briefly explains the importance of helping an illiterate without providing much of a solution, while Kozol s essay was ineffective overall because of the lack of factual evidence and flawed conclusions, his strategic use of tone, repetition and rhetorical questioning provided some strength to his argument. By establishing a sympathetic tone, Kozol effectively appeals our emotions, which provides slight strength to his argument. For example, Kozol explains his dream he experienced where he was in the Soviet, Then I remember that my card was confiscated for some reason, many years before. Around this point, I wake up in a panic (2). Kozol s tone illustrates how helpless the illiterates are and wants to appeal to our emotion of sympathy as he draws comparison to the same troubles and emotions he experienced in his dream as illiterates experience daily. That emotional impact provided some strength to his argument because it allows us to imagine an experience, which may be unfamiliar. Kozol insinuates that illiterates match logos printed on packages to distinguish the differences amongst food. Kozol points out, The purchaser who cannot read and does not dare ... • 12. Epistemic Racism Lastly, epistemic racial discrimination has left irreversible emotional and physical damage that continues to haunt the Indigenous community. Epistemic racial discrimination refers to the positioning of the knowledge of one racial group as superior to another, it includes a judgment of not only which knowledge is considered valuable but is considered to be knowledge. In the context of Indigenous health, the imposition of western knowledge systems and particularly the use of western science to demonstrate the supposed inferiority of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of knowing constitute acts of epistemic racism (Allan Smylie, p. 5, 2015). Geddes writes about the Indigenous children who were ripped from their families and forced to attend residential schools far away from their community. The intent was to strip them of their Indianess and force upon them to become white (Geddes). There was a definite agenda to erase their memories of their culture and be westernized. They were considered inferior beings and were not allowed to speak their language, nor were they allowed to see their families. These Indigenous children were victims of repetitive emotional, sexual and physical abuse in these residential schools. Open carry is the solution that has worked for other states, and it can work here too. Chicago is a fantastic city with a bad rap sheet, this requires a drastic change to correct these issues. These waves of violent crimes are just accepted as something that is uncontrollable. Innocent people are becoming victims to the wrong place wrong time scenario. Chicago suffers from robberies, murders, as well as aggravated assaults with a deadly weapon, and much more that are preventable with the right to open carry a firearm for self defense and defense of others. • 15. Balanced Scorecard Case Study The Impact of using Balanced Scorecard on Strategic Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This research paper describes an overview of the theoretical background of the Balanced Scorecard as well as describing the historical foundation and the development of its theories. A company s success will have a correlation with its strategy. However, if an organization cannot implement and cascade its strategy throughout the company, they may experience a low rate of success and may fail eventually. The strategy of a company is often aligned to the mission, vision and core values of an organization along with a well thought out plan that will give a company an advantage compared to its competitors. Kaplan and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kaplan and David P. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and Norton, D.P. 1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based Costing or the ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the organizations were able to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer, internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the scorecard. This depicts the long term and short term success of the strategy. The outcome measures of the balanced scorecard must represent the excellent prior performance and the performance drivers that lead to the successful and accurate performance. (Kaplan, R. • 16. Philip Hamilton And Alexander Hamilton s Mental Health Alexander Hamilton was one of America s foremost founding fathers. Hamilton s work in the army, in the writing of and ratification of the constitution, his creation of the bank, and his successful political career all made an important impact on early american society, most of which can still be seen today. Although Hamilton accomplished so much in his short life, his last few years were filled with horrible sufferings that would greatly affect his mental health. This degradation of Hamilton s mental health would lead historians to advertise his symptoms from traumatic experiences, suicidal tendencies, and appearances of manic depression. In order to fully understand what was happening to Hamilton s mental health in the last couple of years of Hamilton s life, one must first understand Philip Hamilton and his deadly duel with George Eacker, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr s duel, the symptoms of trauma, suicidal tendencies, and bipolar affective disorder. Philip Hamilton was Alexander and Eliza Hamilton s firstborn son. Philip was their eldest son, and he was Alexander Hamilton s pride and joy. Smart, handsome, and on an impressive path, Philip Hamilton was a rising star by the time he had graduated from college. After hearing about George Eacker s Fourth of July oration, in which Eacker criticises Hamilton s financial system, and the treasury department in general, Philip Hamilton grew unsettled and decided to confront George Eacker. Chernow describes the meeting between Philip Hamilton and George Eacker as contentious between both parties and shares of the constant threats of violence. Eventually, the two parted ways, only to result in an immediate challenge of a duel by Philip Hamilton and Richard Price. The argument between the two was harsh enough that Eacker and Price had a separate duel, albeit resulting in nothing, before Hamilton and Eacker had a duel. Eacker and Hamilton both refused to apologize, and a duel between the two was scheduled as soon as possible in New Jersey. Asking for much needed advice from his father, Philip Hamilton received the advice to wait until Eacker fired, and then raise his gun and shoot up into the air. Throwing away one s shot, Alexander Hamilton argued, was a measure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Summary Of The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln What was the most significant truth you learned from this book and what makes it so significant? How will you apply this new knowledge to your future? Abraham Lincoln supported the Civil war as he felt that it was necessary to prevent secession of the Southern States, even though the states had the right to secede. He was against the institution of slavery expanding and he grew up with a family that attended a Baptist church that opposed slavery. However, it is uncertain as to what Lincoln s views on African Americans truly were as he appealed to his voters, white men. To most American citizens he was a crazed murderer without a conscience, but to others, such as the countless southern sympathizers as a result of the Civil War, he was a martyr for their cause. At the time of Lincoln s assassination the war was essentially over, Booth killed because he and his fellow southern sympathizers were sore losers. He did not murder to satisfy a sick perversion; he killed to atone for the sins of the union. Booth went to church, he was well educated, he was an actor, he had charisma, all of the traits of someone who should not have been a felon, but he was. He was not perfect, he was racist, and he fervently supported his opinions, which is not necessarily an evil action, but with freedom comes the potential for great actions of differing morals. He was politically motivated to assassinate Lincoln, he was not insane. • 30. Summary Of The Black Walnut Tree The Black Walnut Tree The Black Walnut Tree by Mary Oliver begins with the line My mother and I debate . There are two characters introduced: the narrator and her mother. In a typical family, there is a mother, daughter, and father. The lack of a father in this introduction stands out. This is furthered by the line two women trying / in a difficult time to be wise . The author highlights the lack of the father once again by saying two women , in order to clearly demonstrate the lack of male, fatherly figure. Lacking a fatherly figure makes the phrase a difficult time more meaningful; it implies that not only has the family become poor, the family has also lost its patriarch. Later in the poem, however, the narrator dream[s] / of my fathers out of Bohemia / filling the blue fields . The author uses alliteration here with blue and Bohemia , and even further back with brighter and blood . The use of the letter b is kind of forceful and proud, which entails with the message the poem is sending. The imagery in this part of the poem is also very vivid. The narrator says that her ancestors planted and by imagining it, she implies that she believes that they planted the walnut tree in her backyard. I have not myself been through situations of racism to that extreme but I have witnessed discrimination and stereotyping. The 1931 California Seven Party Agreement states that the Palo Verde Irrigation District, the Imperial Irrigation District, the Yuma Project and lands in Imperial and Coachella valleys are to be served by the All American Canal. After the siphon was built and the farms were prospering settlers came, the area was expanding and so was Yuma. • 37. Improving Economic And Social Status Of A Region Introduction Presently, changes are being experienced in areas where development projects aimed at improving the economic and social status of a region are being carried. These changes happen to affect the environment within which the projects are being carried and they often call for strategies to be developed by the developing body to make sure that these impacts are reduced significantly (Beer, Au and Hall n.d.). Despite different development projects aiming at bringing about some positive changes in the society or in a given setting, studies show that the same projects may lead to conflicts between the environment and the human activities being carried out in that particular region. Initially, the campaign for economic growth was viewed as the key for increasing the standards of living in a given region but very little attention was given to the social and environmental sensitivity and impacts that accompanied these projects (Chen, Liu and Liaw 2011). As a result, there has been a growing need to reduce the impacts of the projects as well as making sure that the long term benefits of the projects are maximized in leading to sustainability of the projects. Therefore, in the case of pipeline industry, there are a number of impacts that the industry exposes to the environment as cases of spills may happen as well as destruction of the environment as the pipelines are laid (Even and Porter 2012). He could not have been more accurate in the case of the Cold War, which came more than a century after his death. The Cold War, being a war of competing ideologies as well as competing nations and militaries, was focused more on political conflicts than military ones, thus giving it the moniker of being a cold war. Yet while the United States of America, the leader of the liberal democratic side, did realize the importance of politics in the war, it was not so adept in understanding the political climate of the areas in which the Cold War was hottest. It is undoubtedly true that the American policymakers of the war understood its battles better than the ordinary Korean or Vietnamese when it came to facts and figures; at the same time, when it came to understanding the emotions the battles brought to its various participants, the policymakers were often seemingly clueless. The United States, all throughout the Cold War, showed an inability to understand the emotional climate of its chosen battlegrounds and the emotional impact its choices had on them, and constantly offered rational solutions to issues with emotional roots. This mistake impacted the American involvement in the Cold War, and should serve as a lesson from which the US evaluates its current actions. • 39. The Influence Of Impressionism In The Art Of Art And Art The Rococo style was popular in France during the 1700 s after the days of Versailles and into the days of the aristocratic women hosting salons. Rococo artists sold their works to the wealthy people of society to decorate their lavish salons to awe their guests. The artwork gave the salons their sense of luxury and sensuality with scenes of classic love stories and lacey dresses. After the impressionist movement came the post impressionist movement in France. This movement was less unified then movements before it. These artists were experimental in finding a new way to represent their world and imagination. Also starting in France during the 1930 s after the Great War came the Surrealist movement. Following the teachings of Freud, Surreal artist dove into their minds to find the inspiration for their irrational creations. The Rococo movement focused on creating an atmosphere of sensuality and luxury in the social salons. The use of bright color in the love stories, extreme detail portraying naughty scenes and nature is how the artist chose to create their work. They told classical, fanciful love stories to the wealth French society. In contrast to this fanciful style the geared towards the wealthy, the post impressionists chose to use art as a way of expression and showing their imagination while experimenting with different styles. Well, from the years 1812 to 1824 the Republican Party was the only political party in the U.S. Due to an increasing amount of voter interest the election of 1828 saw the first presidential candidates from two separate parties. Andrew Jackson was the representative from the Democratic Party, and Henry Clay represented the Whig Party. Both Democratic and Whig parties impacted America in many ways during the 19th century, but one in particular stood out significantly amongst the other. Soon after the war of 1812, the Federalist Party collapsed, leaving just one political party in the U.S. for over a decade. It was not until the election of 1824 that there was an emergence of a second party system. As stated previously one party led by Andrew Jackson was the Democrats. The Democratic Party developed when Andrew Jackson was elected president. The democrats believed in helping the common man. They stayed out of state affairs, favored the working class, and were tolerant of immigrants. The Whig party which consisted of mainly prosperous people formed in opposition to the Democratic Party. They believed that the federal government should be actively involved in the economy to stimulate growth. They were also in favor of tariffs to protect infant industries and internal improvements. The tanks ranged in variety for each of the individual nations. It has been said that the German Panzer tank was top dog on the battle field during the war but especially at the beginning of the war. This statement although true is not because the common belief that they were built better than other nation s tanks but because German strategy and the preparedness of the tanks themselves and the crews operating them was vastly better than competing nations such as France and the Soviet Union. The first tank was initially invented in World War 1 by Britain. Tanks in the First World War represented a brilliant idea but a poor execution. The tanks of that war moved at about a walking speed and constantly needed repairs because of how undependable they were. After the war however the Tanks offensive potential was recognized and each nation began research into a better tank to avoid the deadlock imposed on the last war due to modernized weapons and old time tatctics. Luckily tanks are in fact vehicles and were often made by similar plants as cars were, this meant ss the automotive industry advanced with new engines, new transitions, new ways of breaking so did the Tanks by association. If one s morals say no, there s many diets that exist that don t include animals. A vegan diet consists of not consuming any animal products. Humans choose this diet for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is to cut down on animal cruelty. Jonathan Safran Foer talks about the morality of harming animals for food in his book Eating Animals, What our babysitter said made sense to me, not only because it seemed true, but because it was the extension to food of everything my parents had taught me. We don t hurt family members. We don t hurt friends or strangers. We don t even hurt upholstered furniture. My not having thought to include animals in that list didn t make them the exceptions to it. It just made me a child, ignorant of the world s workings (Foer). Humor is also a frequent method of communication among the Jewish people. Humor will be used in a way that makes fun of themselves. Though they can make jokes toward themselves and other Jews, jokes from non Jews about Jews are not usually accepted or appreciated (Schwartz, 2004). Elderly Jews towards the end of their life can come across as chronic complainers. It is just important to remember that expressiveness about how and what they are feeling is part of the culture. It may take some time a and patience to determine and assess pain levels due to their outspoken complaints (Schwartz, 2004). Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15 infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations. The parody of Browning s poem, My Ex Husband, written by Gabriel Spera, is in a woman s point of view pondering on a past relationship where she felt she was not properly respected. In both poems, the speakers are reflecting on past relationship conflicts pertaining to the importance they had in their spouse s lives. The speakers in My Last Duchess and My Ex Husband each have different personalities and values, which prompts each individual to react in different ways. In Browning s poem, My Last Duchess, the speaker is concerned with the rank of importance he acquires in his wife s life. The speaker s personality comes off as angry, self centered, and greatly annoyed. One time the speaker portrays these an annoyed quality is when he stated as if she ranked my gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift (Browning, 33 34). World Order Research Paper The world order, in general, refers to the economic, political or social state of affairs prevailing in the world at a given time and the corresponding effect this has on the different relationships countries have among each other. In this essay, I will argue that the world order is not in fact changing and that we are not witnessing a power shift from the West to the rest of the world. To prove this, I will analyse in terms of hard and soft power how the West is still the more dominant party. Firstly, I will compare the military and economic power of the US and China and come to the conclusion that the US is the more dominant power. Next, I will demonstrate how in terms of foreign policy and political power the US commands more soft power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many countries, including Japan and India, claim to find it increasingly challenging to cooperate with China and this has done nothing but push said countries towards the US and cemented the US s global power. Therefore, it is clear that even in terms of soft power, the US scores much higher than China and as a result there will be no shift in power which re emphasizes the fact that the world order is not changing. In conclusion, I have argued that the world order is not changing.
