The atmosphere is important for living organisms as it contains the gases we need to survive, regulates Earth's temperature, and protects from harmful sun rays. However, human activities like smoke from factories and excessive transportation pollute the atmosphere with gases like carbon dioxide and cause issues like the greenhouse effect and global warming.
Spanish climates
Spain has five main types of climates - oceanic, continental, Mediterranean, mountain, and subtropical. The oceanic climate is found in northern coastal areas and is characterized by abundant rainfall, mild temperatures and dense vegetation. Continental climates inland have extreme temperatures, low rainfall and sparse vegetation. Mediterranean climates along the coast have high temperatures, irregular rainfall and drought-resistant plants. Mountainous areas experience low temperatures, high precipitation and forested landscapes. The Canary Islands possess a subtropical climate due to their proximity to the equator, with warm weather, low rainfall and unique flora.

- 1. Weather elements The weather of a place is defined using these elements: Temperature: is how hot or cold the air is. It depends of various factors such as: o The amount of Sun of this place. (The UK has about 1200 to 1600 hours of sun a year. Spain has more than 2500 hours of sun a year) o The latitude. (Or distance from the equator) o The altitude: is the height above sea level. (Temperature usually decreases by 1°C for every 100 metres in altitude.) o The distance from the ocean. (Oceans heat up and cool down much more slowly than land) o The relief: Mountain ranges slow down winds and stop clouds from moving. This causes precipitations in the mountain slopes. Air pressure: is the weight of the air. It decreases with height. As we climb a mountain, the pressure decreases. Generally, high pressure causes sunny weather and low pressure causes storms and precipitation. Humidity: is the amount of water vapour in the air. It depends on the temperature. When it is hotter, there is often higher humidity. Wind: is the movement of the air in the atmosphere. When an air mass is heated, it rises, and a cooler mass of air occupies its place. This cause the movement of air from colder to warmer areas. (Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86ChgK38EIA) Precipitation: is water (liquid or solid) that falls from the clouds to the Earth. Clouds are formed when water from seas, rivers or lakes is heated and evaporates. Then, it rises and form clouds. When clouds cool down, they release water in form of rain, snow or hail. There is more precipitation in areas that are closer to the Equator, the sea or mountain ranges.
