Virtual Instrumentation
SHIVAM MAURYA M.TECH. 1ST YEAR
DAYALBAGH EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE
Submitted to Dr. Vishal Sahni
What is Virtual Instrumentation(VI)?
 Virtual instrumentation is the use of customizable software
and modular measurement hardware to create user
defined measurement and control systems, called virtual
instruments.
 Software is used to replace a large amount of hardware,
which reduces the complexity and expensiveness of the
instruments.

• Signal conditioning
• A/D convertor
Information System
interface
Data Acquisition (DAQ)
 DAQ is the process of measuring an electric or physical
phenomenon such as voltage, current, temperature, pressure, or
sound with the help of computer.
 A DAQ system consists of sensors, DAQ measurement hardware
and a computer with programmable software.
• Virtual instruments represents a fundamental shift from
traditional hardware- centered instrumentation systems to
software-centered systems that exploit the computing
power, productivity and connectivity capabilities of popular
desktop computers.
 LabVIEW programs-subroutines are termed as virtual instruments(VIs).
 Each VI has three components: a block diagram, a front panel and a
connector panel.
 The back panel, which is a block diagram, contains the graphical
source code.
What is Block diagram and Front
panel?
 The block diagram includes
wires, icons, functions and
other LabVIEW objects.
 The front panel is a user
interface of VI, which has all the
indicators for inputs and
outputs.
Thank You! 
