After studying this unit students will be able;
 To understand the structure , scope and function of the Federal Ministry of
Education and other departments.
 To understand the function and interrelationship of various directorate,
boards bureaus and other organizations with the provincial department of
Education.
 To know about the educational institutions in Pakistan, their multifarious
functions/relationship/ problems and issues, they are facing.
 Supervising the education system and correcting the
situation
 Reviewing the standard of education at various level.
 Formulation of policies from time to time.
 Preparing plans to become part of the national
development plans.
 Formulation of curriculum from primary level to college
level.
 Revision of curriculum from time to time making
deficiencies
 Preparation of text books in various subjects.
 Introduction of innovation in the curriculum.
 Arranging seminars, workshops, conferences at national level
for orienting all concerned with planning, development, and
implementation of the education programs.
 Evaluating long term projects to determine their impact on the
development and improvement of education.
Ministry of education is divided into several wings.

4. Educational research
5. Each wing is headed by a senior professional officer

The organization and functions of the provincial education department
mainly include;
1. Planning
2. Administration
3. Direction
4. Co-ordination
5. Teacher training
6. Budgeting
7. Overall supervision of educational programs and activities
8. Building linkage between the Federal and Provincial Government.

4. In every secretariat and educational management information
system has been established which collects data compile store
data and retrieve it as and when it required
The provinces have been divided into various divisions at
provincial level.
1. Directorates of Primary Education
2. Directorates of Secondary Education
3. Directorates of Colleges
4. Directorates of technical Education
The discussion in this section will be confined to the institutions run by
provincial government. In govt schools, tuition fee is not charged at primary
and secondary levels. However, fee is charged from higher secondary level to
university level, which is not very high but affordable. However, provision of
scholarship, fee-ship and financial support has been made for deserving
students at these levels.
