 To describe the meaning ,nature, importance and scope of educational
administration
 To apply the principles of administration in concerned field
 To discuss the approaches to educational management and administration
 To relate Islamic concept of administration
 To describe the principles of Islamic administration.
Objectives of the unit
 The word ADMINISTREATION, derived from the Latin word – “ad +
ministraire” means care for’ or look after people to manage affairs i.e. work
dedicated to the good of others.
 Administration is a machinery through which any organization or institution
can be managed.
 Administration is the organization & direction of human & material resources
to achieve desired ends.” (Pfiffner & Presthus).
 “Administration is the direction, coordination an control of many persons to
achieve some purposes or objectives.” (L.D. White)
ADMINISTRATION
 It is holistic.
 It is continuous & on going process.
 It is goal oriented.
 It is social & human nature.
 It is dynamic.
 It is creative or innovative.
Nature of ADMINISTRATION
1. Division of work.
2. Authority, responsibility & accountability.
3. Discipline.
4. Unity of command.
5. Unity of direction.
6. Subordination of individual interest to organizational interest.
7. Remuneration of personnel.
8. Scalar chain of command.
9. Order.
10. Equity.
11. Stability of tenure of personnel.
12. Initiative.
13. Esprit de corps.
Principles of ADMINISTRATION
 Educational Administration refers to guidance, leadership and control of the
efforts of education institutions or programs towards achievement of
educational goals.
 It is higher level authority that determines policies, identifies goals and lays
down principles of running an educational institution or project.
 Educational Administration is the process of utilizing appropriate material in
such a way as to promote effectively the development of human qualities.
Educational Administration
 To frame well defined policies and programmes
 To make use of appropriate material
 To assure the growth of children and adults
 To ensure the achievement of Goals
 Economically use of material and human resources effectively
 Conservation of resources
 Optimum use of resources
Importance of Educational Administration
The formula of the functions / elements of administration was referred to as
“POSDCORB” involving
1. Planning.
2. Organizing.
3. Staffing.
4. Directing.
5. Co-ordinating.
6. Reporting.
7. Budgeting.
Elements of Administration
The American Association of Schools Administration has suggested following seven
components of Educational Administration:
1. Planning.
2. Organizing.
3. Decision Making.
4. Stimulating.
5. Co-ordinating.
6. Communicating.
7. Evaluating.
Elements of Educational Administration
Here are some basic principles of Educational Administration:
1. Principle of Democratic leadership.
2. Principle of cooperation
3. Principle of Co-ordination.
4. Principle of flexibility.
5. Principle of planning
6. Principle of Evaluation.
Basic Principles of Educational Administration
The Islamic roots of administration generally exist in the primary and
secondary sources of the shari’ah in addition to the practices of the early
Muslims.
The Islamic shari’ah lays down principles and fundamentals for the
orientation of governmental affairs and the construction of good and
ethical administration Islam is by nature administration-oriented.
Islamic Administration
1. It will preserve and defend the law of Allah derive from Quran and Sunnah
2. The Ijma of the past is not binding upon the people
3. All subject shall be guaranteed equal rights
4. Men and women shall enjoy the same fundamental rights
5. The chief executive will be elected by the people and govern through
consultation
6. Islam seeks to set up just society and therefore, attached the highest importance
to justice, equity and fair dealings.
Fundamental principals of Islamic Administration
7. Non Muslim will be guaranteed full protection of life, property and liberty
8. Only democratic form of government is prescribed by Islam
9. The state should maintain an equitable distribution of wealth
10. The state should strive to achieve equality of human beings
11. Maximum freedom should be available to the citizens
12. Authority or power to rule is a trust-AMANAT- of the people and not the birth
right of anyone. So accountability should be in all cases.

c. The right to life
d. The right to property
e. No one is suffer for the wrong of others
f. Freedom of person
g. Freedom of opinion
h. Freedom of movement
i. Freedom of association
j. The right to privacy
k. The right to secure basic necessities of life
l. The right to a hearing
m. The right to a decision in accordance with proper judicial procdedure
Fundamental rights of a citizen
a. Sovereignty of Allah
b. The sunnah and Hadith
c. Ijtihad
d. ijma
The structure of Islamic Model
i. Dispensation of justice and disposal of all litigations in accordance with
shari’ah and thus putting the strong and weak on the same pedestal.
ii. Maintenance of law and order to make it possible for the people to lead
peaceful life and proceed in their economic activities freely, and travel
in the land without fear.
iii. Enforcement of criminal code of Quran so that people do not violate the
prohibitions of Allah.
DUTIES OF ISLAMIC ADMINISTRATORS
v. Defense of the frontiers against foreign invasions to guarantee the
security of life and property of Muslims and Non-Muslims both in the
state
vi. Organization and prosecution of religious war against those who oppose
the call of Islam or refuse to enter the protection of the Islamic State as
Non- Muslim subject
vii. Bound to establish the supremacy of Islam over all other religions and
faith

After studying this unit students will be able;  To describe the meaning ,nature, importance and scope of educational administration  To apply the principles of administration in concerned field  To discuss the approaches to educational management and administration  To relate Islamic concept of administration  To describe the principles of Islamic administration.   • 4.  The word ADMINISTREATION, derived from the Latin word – “ad + ministraire” means care for’ or look after people to manage affairs i.e. work dedicated to the good of others.  Administration is a machinery through which any organization or institution can be managed.  Administration is the organization & direction of human & material resources to achieve desired ends.” (Pfiffner & Presthus).  “Administration is the direction, coordination an control of many persons to achieve some purposes or objectives.” (L.D. White) ADMINISTRATION
  • 5.  It is holistic.  It is continuous & on going process.  It is goal oriented.  It is social & human nature.  It is dynamic.  It is creative or innovative. Nature of ADMINISTRATION

  • 7.  Educational Administration refers to guidance, leadership and control of the efforts of education institutions or programs towards achievement of educational goals.  It is higher level authority that determines policies, identifies goals and lays down principles of running an educational institution or project.  Educational Administration is the process of utilizing appropriate material in such a way as to promote effectively the development of human qualities.   • 12. The Islamic roots of administration generally exist in the primary and secondary sources of the shari’ah in addition to the practices of the early Muslims. The Islamic shari’ah lays down principles and fundamentals for the orientation of governmental affairs and the construction of good and ethical administration Islam is by nature administration-oriented.   • 13. 1. It will preserve and defend the law of Allah derive from Quran and Sunnah 2. The Ijma of the past is not binding upon the people 3. All subject shall be guaranteed equal rights 4. Men and women shall enjoy the same fundamental rights 5. The chief executive will be elected by the people and govern through consultation 6. Islam seeks to set up just society and therefore, attached the highest importance to justice, equity and fair dealings. Fundamental principals of Islamic Administration
  • 14. 7. Non Muslim will be guaranteed full protection of life, property and liberty 8. Only democratic form of government is prescribed by Islam 9. The state should maintain an equitable distribution of wealth 10. The state should strive to achieve equality of human beings 11. Maximum freedom should be available to the citizens 12. Maintenance of law and order to make it possible for the people to lead peaceful life and proceed in their economic activities freely, and travel in the land without fear. iii.   • 18. v. Defense of the frontiers against foreign invasions to guarantee the security of life and property of Muslims and Non-Muslims both in the state vi. Organization and prosecution of religious war against those who oppose the call of Islam or refuse to enter the protection of the Islamic State as Non- Muslim subject vii.
