Education is primarily provincial issue in Pakistan in the wake of 18th Amendment to the
Constitution of Pakistan when Education department was transferred from federal to
provinces. In 2013, it was renamed to Ministry of Education, Trainings & Standards in Higher
Education and in 2014 was renamed to Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training.
The department’s main responsibilities include creating policies, plans and programs to ensure
the accessibility and availability of education in Pakistan.

Educational Directorate at Provincial Level
In 1972 the Directorate of Education was divided into the Directorate of Education
School/Colleges and Director of Education Bureau of Curriculum and Extension Centre, after
then in 1982 the Directorate of Education School again divided into Directorate of Education
Colleges and Directorate of Education Schools, after then subordinate Directorate was
established at Divisional level.
He has the following responsibilities:
 Supervise and manage the schools within the province.
 Appointment, Promotion and transfer of Teacher, Head master and District
Education Officer.
 Manage Co-curricular Activities.
 Implement Education Policy in province.
 Suggest to open Schools at appropriate locations within province.
