up. The link will hopefully help them grow when
starting off.

4. What’s the Purpose: Peoples Politics,
The Gamers Community and Our
NewsPeoples Politics:
This will be a new social media website which is focused around UK politics. Its where
people can discuss with other users on popular debates and issues which are in
current affairs. Ultimately, this is for younger people who may be new to the debates
and want to learn more about other peoples opinion while voicing their own.
The Gamers Community:
This will also be another form of new social media website. It will evolve around news
about games and development. It will focus around development of new games which
are currently being made and what news they have released. There will also be a
comments section where users will voice their concerns and thoughts about what is
being added to the game.
Our News:
This will be a social media website where people are able to report news themselves
and are able to have discussions with events which are happening all over the world
with other users. There will be a multiple different people from lots of different
backgrounds which can share their opinion. What I would like the website to become
is a platform where people can share there ideas about how to help change the world
and from there they can get more ideas and inspire people to do the same.

What will the product offer:
This product is able to offer people between the ages of 18 –
50+ to voice their own opinion of current news and what is
happening in the world in real time. People will be able to
comment on what other people have posted and also what
other users have commented on. This is to engage discussions
and for users to find out what other peoples opinions are on
hot topics as well as tell their own. Users will also be able to
decide what type of news they see and what they want to see
to discuss. It will also show news where their has been a big
discussion or lots of people are viewing it to show that lots of
users have been on that post. It is going to offer something
news websites don’t where people are able to share photos
and videos of news first before news stations do as users are
able to do it directly. This is why it will be an app and also in
the form of a website.

8. Font Styles:
I will be using the font ‘New Press’ from
www.dafonts.com as it is a bold font which will
make it stand out lots thus eye catching for first
time users. This is also similar to fonts found on
news websites such as ‘The Times’ which are a
respected newspaper and respect is what I want
users to have when using my website.

9. Slogan:
The slogan is ‘It’s our News’ which connotes that users have control of what is news on this website and
what aspects are covered. It also shows that it is made up of peoples opinions rather than a single
opinion in an article. The verbal code ‘Our’ represents a community of people which are together.
Those inside the community have a feeling of belonging to or association with multiple people which
they can identify with. It can also connote that it’s ‘Our’ website and new social media site. The verbal
code ‘News’ has a multiple meanings for different people. It is defined as noteworthy information
mostly in recent events. This connotes that the website offers something which has personal interest.
Logo:
There is a possibility that the logo could be abbreviated to just the letters ‘ON’. This can connote that
my social media idea is always ‘on’, ready for news and ‘on’ for people to use 24/7. It can also signifies
that it is on the ball and is up to date with current affairs being one of the first to be able to report on it.
Home Page features:
One of the distinct home page features is that there is a rotating tile panels which show the top five
trending posts which have lots of views and/or lots of comments on the post. These panels will include
a picture from the post or a relevant picture about the topics. There will also be a brief description
about what the post is about. Underneath will be lots of links of other trending topics. There will also be
a side panel which has new posts on it. These will just show the title of the topic.

10. Inspiration
When gathering ideas to what I wanted ‘Our News’ to be like I was
able to get inspiration from current social media products (Reddit
and Facebook).
These sites are News Aggregators which means they take
information from lots of different news sources and providing it in a
new form for users to consume. For example; Yahoo News digest
app takes headlines and articles from multiple sources and puts
them in a consumable app. I have chosen to do this similarly but in
a website form.
Articles will be taken from any reliable source and be able to be
shared/posted on Our News. The app also looks aesthetically
pleasing as it is very colourful and well labeled with a colour
scheme and sub-titles. I want to replicate this busy look on my
website.

11. Katz’ Uses and Gratification
The users want ‘Surveillance’ from the social media
product as they want to be aware what is going on
in the world. Being a news based social media site
this I very important. However, it could also be
classed as a form of ‘Diversion’ from everyday
pressures as users can see the worlds problems and
not need to focus on themselves of their own lives.
Users will also be most likely to want to be
‘Informed and educated’ by the site as it is based
around learning about world news and what
peoples opinions are about it.

12. Psychographics
The age range is between 18-50+ as this is the news
it covers a wide variety of people who would be
interested. The average age will be younger in this
range with an average of 18-25 as this is a new way
of gaining news via social media solely about world
news older people are more likely to use other
methods like the newspaper or TV shows.
Those who use it will be interested in other peoples
opinions in the news and also want to voice their
own opinion and have discussions about what is
going on.

13. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
Users could be classified as ‘Social climbers’ as they
may want to learn more because they want to
improve their social status by having a wider
knowledge about the world and be able to form an
opinion based what has happened and knowing
what other peoples are as well.
They are also ‘Explorers’ as they know that what is
happening will have some social change so want to
understand why this is and what other people think
about it.

14. Hartley Classification
Users will be likely to be similar to reddit’s with
most people being mostly males and there are
more white people however, they are not
dominant and it is close to black and Hispanic.
Most of the users will probably be from the US
or UK with Europe making up most of the rest
but it will not be exclusive to these countries
and it is about freedom of speech and opinions.

15. Socio economic needs
Users will have a diverse background which will
mean users can have a variety of different opinions
and news which they want to share. So users will be
spread over the socio economic needs scale.
However most users will be in B,C1 and C2 due to
stereotypically they wouldn’t know lots about the
news and may want to find out more

16. Colour Scheme for ‘Our News’
The colour scheme for ‘Our News’ is going to be red and white. Red
connotes importance and urgency which relates to the website being
news based. It can also connote danger which in some cases can be
likely to be a topic. This will attract readers to the page and they may
return as a result of knowing that the website holds important
information.
The white signifies purity as what is posted will be all about free
speech and being the truth about what is happening as well as peoples
opinions respected.
I have been inspired by the BBC news website. They have the same
colour scheme and it connotes importance of their articles and what is
being reported. I want to transfer this into a News based social media
and it being a forum.

17. Colour Scheme for ‘Gamers Community’
The colour scheme for ‘Gamers Community’ is going to
be white and Green. Green connotes a natural colour
which is ironic as most gamers will spend unhealthy
amount of time playing video games in doors. The colour
green is the most restful to the human eye which is good
for people who may have eye strain or problems due to
an extended time in front of a TV or monitor.
Green can also connote a lack of experience which is
what people may go to the website to get help and learn
more about a game.

The reason why there is copyright information
is that so that users are informed of how the
website’s content is legally protected against
people stealing it and copying it without legal
permission. Also, it will outline the
consequences of stealing the content and
breaking the copyright law so that users of the
website are full informed about what will
happen to them.
Websites must also state that they are copyright
protected.

19. Social Media Synergy
The reason why I am using other social websites
in collaboration with my own is so that I am
able to promote Our News on other well known
social media websites. I can advertise there and
also can post links to my website and post
examples on what is on my website to
encourage people to look what else there is. By
building Our news on other social media
websites it will overall increase the amount of
people who know about ‘Our News’.

20. Abbreviation of ‘Our News’ Logo
I am make and use a small version of my logo as it might be
more appropriate to use. This would be condescend down to
‘ON’ as it is the first letters of ‘Our News’, which connotes how
we are “ON” the news all the time, thus we are always up to
date with what is going on in the news and are alert to what is
happening as “ON” can also relate to being switched on or on
the ball. ‘ON’ can also connote having power which fuels and
energizes others to report and discuss the current news. As
this will be a smaller logo it could go onto pages which
haven’t got a lot of room for the big logo. This could be on
informational pages about the website as the logo shouldn’t
draw too much attention thus being smaller will reduce this.
