The European Union (EU) is an organization of 28 European countries that works to encourage trade within Europe by creating a free-trade zone without tariffs, quotas, or embargos. Member countries believe they can be a more powerful economic force in the world by working together due to their combined money, people, and land area. Having a common currency, the euro, makes trade easier between EU members by eliminating costs associated with exchanging different currencies.
