Unit 73: Sound For Computer Games
Game Title Tropico 5. The part being reviewed starts at 3:30 and ends at 4:40
Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that establish… Clearly state what production technique(s)
you think have been used to create specific
soundtrack elements
Setting The setting for this cutscene seems to be a story. This is because of the
narrative, which is clearly a story being told. The story seems to be being told
in the Caribbean or Hawaii. This is because of the music which is playing in
the background, which sounds like traditional Caribbean and Hawaiian music.
In-studio recording would have been
conducted to gather the narrative. In studio
recordings would have been made to record
the music.
Mood The mood that the game gives me is one of faith. This is because the person
who is talking in the cutscene is talking with such confidence about his island,
which is shown in the quote ‘You know those people who establish dynasties
so powerful that their names echo through the centuries? I am one of them.’
(3:36)
In-studio recording would have been
conducted to gather the narrative.
Game genre The game could be a city builder. I believe this because of the quote ‘this
island of mine could become anything’ (3:50). My belief in this is expanded
even more because of the line that is said after the character states what his
island could become ‘But now it’s just a dirt poor piece of land in the middle of
the ocean… let’s make it shine’. This to me makes it sound like you are about
to start building a city on an island.
In-studio recording would have been
conducted to gather the narrative.
Narrative The narrative for this is mainly narration. This is because narration helps to
make the setting and it also completely sets the mood and the game genre.
In the setting music also help to establish the setting of the cutscene.
In-studio recording would have been
conducted to gather the narrative. In studio
recordings would have been made to record
the music.
