The document summarizes key elements of the soundtrack from the video game Bioshock. It describes the setting as moving from a plane crash into the ocean to an underwater city. It notes the mood was meant to be creepy and mysterious. Production techniques used included recorded or stock sounds edited for the setting, lowering the pitch and slowing playback of sounds to suggest being underwater, string instruments and drums to set the ominous tone, and voice acting with added effects to sound like 1940s recordings.

Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that establish…
Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements
Setting
The setting starts in a plane and then makes its way to a plane crash in the ocean
which ends in a pod travelling to a underwater city
Mood
The mood that was set up was a very creepy and mysterious mood that is supposed
to intrigue the player and make them want to investigate what is going on
I think a lot of the sound used to show the setting
is recorded or stock sounds which were slightly
edited and then used in the game such as the
explosions and whale noises. I also think that to
give the effect that the sound is under water it
may have had its pitch lowered and possibly its
playback slowed down.
To create this mood there is a large use of high
pitched string instruments such as violins. There
is also some use of low pitched and heavy drum
beats to the reveal of the underwater city. All of
this background music was probably created from
recording an orchestra in a sound studio.
Game genre
The game is a FPS game but this the intro so has no evidence of it
Narrative
The narrative is shown though the voices of two characters and certain effects that
show what is happening in the story such as the sound of the plane crashing and
The voice acting would have been recorded in a
sound studio and then edited to add in small
effects for certain parts that are supposed to
sound like a 1940s sound recording.
