Our Aims and Ideas
 A music video should convey the message of
the song while remaining entertaining the
audience. We aim to create an engaging
narrative while retaining the message of the
song, which we feel is isolation/solitude.
Storyboard
 The following slides show images of our
storyboard at the moment. This is a work in
progress and may change slightly as our
project develops but the core of our idea has
been captured here.
Storyboard
 Our storyboard conveys the band alongside
the narrative. Our narrative displays a lone
surfer who is isolated in open waters. This
connects with the songs meaning.
Key Features
 One of the features that we feel will make our
video stand out is the use of aerial shots which
is mentioned later on.
 Another, is the use of editing which is
mentioned on the next slide.
Synchronised Editing
 Our chosen song has a very clear beat. We
intend to use this to our advantage and edit in
sync with it. This is shown in our scene by
scene storyboard and gives us a template for
the integration of star image and narrative.
SHOT TECHNIQUES
AND INSPIRATIONS
Aerial Shots
 We got the idea for aerial shots from several
different places. One of which is from the Don
Broco music video for Money Power Fame in
which a drone is used extensively.
 The next slide contains some examples of this
in action.

Aerial Shots
 In order to achieve these shots we will need to
use a drone with a camera attached to it. We
will then fly it in a path that captures what we
want.
Underwater Filming
 We also intend to use an underwater camera
to film certain shots.
 One media text that has already used this is
the film Max Payne. We have taken inspiration
from some of the scenes at the beginning.

 This image from the film ‘Dear John’ shows the
style that we are trying to capture with our
theme of isolation.
LIGHTING
Lighting
 We intend to use natural light and then add a
filter to accent the colour of the environment.
 We will also use some brighter lights for the
‘star image’ section.
COSTUME
Costume
 Within music videos the costume that the
actors and the artist wear depend on the genre
of the music video and the way the director
vison for the music video .
 Within our music video we will have stylish
clothing that is expected to be worn be the
viewer/target market of our music video . The
costume that will be used will be wet suits and
young teen type clothing .
Costume
LOCATION
Location: Croyde Beach
 We found that Croyde beach would be the
most suitable location for the main sequence
of our media project. Due to the regular decent
weather and relativelty consistent high altitude
of waves, it will secure the chances of being
able to film on a good day. Croyde beach is
based in Devon, Although travelling could
consist of a 2 hour drive, It is one of the best
surf locations in the area.

Props
 We will need to use several different props to
retain a level of authenticity.
 We will need to use surfboards, wetsuits, and
instruments.
CGI
COMPUTER GENERATED
IMAGES
 We are not going to have a wide range of CGI like we have done in the past ,
but for our music video we are going to mainly focus on the camera angle and
the story line , but this does not mean that will we not have CGI in it such as
lens flares , colour correction and other visual effects that will benefits our
music video .
 Their was no CGI or major editing in the original music video for sail and we
believe that we want to includes some forms of CGI as it will make it different
to the original sail music video .
 In a lot of modern music videos there is a wide amount of CGI that they have
included such as they sometimes green screen the actor on to another
locations as this creates a more of a future effect . When doing CGI in a music
video it depends on the type of music and the artist motive . For example Paul
McCartney music video Hope For The Future has displayed this .

Treatment for our Music Video

  • 3. Our Aims and Ideas  A music video should convey the message of the song while remaining entertaining the audience. We aim to create an engaging narrative while retaining the message of the song, which we feel is isolation/solitude.
  • 4. Storyboard  The following slides show images of our storyboard at the moment. This is a work in progress and may change slightly as our project develops but the core of our idea has been captured here.

  • 7. Storyboard  Our storyboard conveys the band alongside the narrative. Our narrative displays a lone surfer who is isolated in open waters. This connects with the songs meaning.
  • 8. Key Features  One of the features that we feel will make our video stand out is the use of aerial shots which is mentioned later on.  Another, is the use of editing which is mentioned on the next slide.
  • 9. Synchronised Editing  Our chosen song has a very clear beat. We intend to use this to our advantage and edit in sync with it. This is shown in our scene by scene storyboard and gives us a template for the integration of star image and narrative.
  • 11. Aerial Shots  We got the idea for aerial shots from several different places. One of which is from the Don Broco music video for Money Power Fame in which a drone is used extensively.  The next slide contains some examples of this in action.
  • 13. Aerial Shots  In order to achieve these shots we will need to use a drone with a camera attached to it. We will then fly it in a path that captures what we want.
  • 14. Underwater Filming  We also intend to use an underwater camera to film certain shots.  One media text that has already used this is the film Max Payne. We have taken inspiration from some of the scenes at the beginning.

  • 16. Other Inspirations  This image from the film ‘Dear John’ shows the style that we are trying to capture with our theme of isolation.
  • 18. Lighting  We intend to use natural light and then add a filter to accent the colour of the environment.  We will also use some brighter lights for the ‘star image’ section.
  • 20. Costume  Within music videos the costume that the actors and the artist wear depend on the genre of the music video and the way the director vison for the music video .  Within our music video we will have stylish clothing that is expected to be worn be the viewer/target market of our music video . The costume that will be used will be wet suits and young teen type clothing .
  • 23. Location: Croyde Beach  We found that Croyde beach would be the most suitable location for the main sequence of our media project. Due to the regular decent weather and relativelty consistent high altitude of waves, it will secure the chances of being able to film on a good day. Croyde beach is based in Devon, Although travelling could consist of a 2 hour drive, It is one of the best surf locations in the area.

  • 26. Props  We will need to use several different props to retain a level of authenticity.  We will need to use surfboards, wetsuits, and instruments.
  • 28.  We are not going to have a wide range of CGI like we have done in the past , but for our music video we are going to mainly focus on the camera angle and the story line , but this does not mean that will we not have CGI in it such as lens flares , colour correction and other visual effects that will benefits our music video .  Their was no CGI or major editing in the original music video for sail and we believe that we want to includes some forms of CGI as it will make it different to the original sail music video .  In a lot of modern music videos there is a wide amount of CGI that they have included such as they sometimes green screen the actor on to another locations as this creates a more of a future effect . When doing CGI in a music video it depends on the type of music and the artist motive . For example Paul McCartney music video Hope For The Future has displayed this .
