As mymusicvideowasmainlybasedonthe genre of R&B, as a group we have researcheddifferent
R&B musicto see whatstars in an R&B music video.
One if the main aspectsthatwe have pickeduponwhenwe have lookedatmanyR&B musicvideos
was mise enscene which makesthe musicvideoagenre of R&B. For example inanR&Bmusicvideo
youwouldmainlysee drugs,alcohol,andlove.We have pickeduponthisandhave basedall three
characteristicsinan R&B musicvideointooursas thisiswhat R&B fanslike tosee and whatis
expectedinone.We have decidedtobase outmusicvideomainlyatnighttime because atnight
time iswhere youwouldmainlysee youngteenagerspartying,meetingfriendsanddrinking.We
thoughtthat the mise enscene wouldfitmuchbetterif itwasat nightto ourmusicvideo another
reasonwhywe basedit at nightor ina dark,gloomy daywas to representthe musicvideoandthe
maincharacter as beingdepressedandheartbrokensothe mise enscene goeswell withthe theme
of the musicvideo.The locationwhichwasbasedInLondonbridge aswell asthe famousbuildings
aroundthat specificare suchas skygardenreallyhelpedwiththe theme of ourmusicvideoaswe as
teenagersinthe Londonare typicallystereotypedasparty –like people whomgooutto drinkand
smoke.
Anotherwayinwhichour productdevelopsthe mainconventionof the real mediaproductishaving
a character where youngteenage girlsare heartbrokendue totheircheatingboyfriendorabreaking
up that theyare goingthrough.We have relatedthistoyoungteenagersespeciallytoyoung
vulnerable astheymaybe goingthroughhard timesandseeing the maincharacterinthe music
videodepressedunhappywithlife,she turnstodrugsand alcohol whichthenledthe girl tocommit
suicide andtheymayfeel like theyare inthe same situationwhichtheycanrelate to.Asa groupwe
have triedto raise awarenessof anyyounggirl goingthrougha breakupor are heartbrokennotto
turn to drugsor alcohol as the situationwouldn’tgetanybetterandthe statisticsshowsthe number
of suicidesandattemptedsuicidebyyoungteenagersisaneye wateringamount.Asa groupwe
have createdthismusicvideotoall youngpeople toshow thatthey are strongerthan thatand to
inspire youngpeople nottoturn tothat. If theywantto turn to drugsand alcohol thenitwouldlead
to a major consequence whichistotheirdeathbed.
We have addedfeaturesinthe musicvideotowhatyouwouldnormallysee inR&Bmusicvideo
whichiswhenthe boyfriendwaswatchingaviolentfilmsittingona wall wearingahoody.This
stereotypesthe typical badboyinamusic videowhere theyhave somuchaggressionandhate in
themas theyare influence inwhattheywatch whichviolence isandare influencedbythatto carry
on domesticviolence.Howevernotonlyhave we relatedthatscene towhatyouwouldnormallysee
ina musicvideo,butwe have metthe criteriaof addingpost-modernismeffectstorecordwhatthe
boyfriendiswatchingonthe phone.
As a group,we have come up to use post-moderntechniques.One of the techniquesinspiredby
Gondry’sworkis the hall of mirror as we were veryinspiredbythe film”inception”thatwe have
decidedtouse that to ourmusicvideo.The purpose of usingthe hall of mirrorsin ourmusicvideois
to make intertextualreferencetopost-modernism.Notonlythatbutto alsoemphasise the ideathat
the maincharacter is on the phone angryby alsoitconfusesthe audience anddistortsthe situation
of herbeingcheatedon,almostanidea of the maincharactersmindbeingdistortedandconfused
abouther boyfriendthe one she thoughtlovedhercheatedonher.Itis alsodifficulttodistinguish
the ideabetweenthe truthandillusionlinkstothe ideathatitisan illusionthathe cheatedbonher
because she wasn’texpectingittohappen.
How didyouuse mediatechnologiesinthe constructionandresearch, planningand evaluation
stages?
Throughoutthe musicvideowe hadfeltthatwe use the correct andhighqualitytechnologyinorder
to create a highqualitypiece of workandwe knew how importantthe productionof the musicvideo
isso we usedall the opportunitiestocreate the bestmusicvideoqualitywiththe technology
provided.
The firstmost importantpiece of equipmentwhichwe feltwasthe mostimportantpartof the
projectwasthe use of a highqualitycamera.We had giventhe optionto use the camerasprovided
to us bythe school,butwe had thoughtcarefullyandwe haddecidedtobuyour ownhighquality
camera to try makingthe musicvideoasprofessional aspossible. The camerainwhichwe have
usedisthe Canon EOS 1200D DSLR camera.The qualityof the camerawas up to a highstandardand
had all the featuresthatwe neededforthe musicvideosuchasZoom in,Flashandan extreme front
camera zoominwhere itcouldzoom inextraclose as thiswasveryuseful throughoutourmusic
videoaswe neededitforthe extreme close-upshotsof the messagesthatthe ex-boyfriendwas
sendingtothe girl beggingforherto get back withhim.We had ensuredthatbefore use we would
charge the camera to itsfull sothat itwouldlastus the day whenwe needtogo toofar placesand
filmsuchas central London.
Whenwe had finishedfilming,we hadtoputall the shots fromthe SanDisk64GB Ultra SdXC SD card
to the computerso that we couldstart editingthe musicvideowe alsoneededtoputthe videostoa
USB so that it wouldopenupandsave our project.Incase we lose the SD card we made sure that
we savedour filmingshotsonmore thanone USB so that we don’tlose anywork thatwe have done.
Wheneditingourmusicvideowe useddifferentsoftwaresuchasadobe premiere pro,adobe flash
professional.The software hashelpedustoeditthe musicvideo hadhelpedustoeditthe things
that we don’tneedinand to addin orderto make the final piece lookasprofessional aspossible.
The last stepafterthe editingwasfinishedwastouploaditontoa site calledvimeoasitconsistsof a
higherqualityof videotouploadandnofeatureswithinthe musicvideowouldbe lost.
I have researchedaboutR&B genres.Ihave gone onYouTube to findall the differentkindof music
videosthathadinspiredusto come up withthe final piece of the musicvideo.YouTubehelpedwith
the differentvariationof musicvideosandgave usideasonwhat we couldadd to our ownmusic
video
How effectisthe combinationof yourmainproductandancillarytexts?
My A2 mediastudiescourse workhadrequiredme andmygroupto make a musicvideo togo with
an ancillarytaskof makinga music videomagazine advertandcd coverand the back. I have put
togetherthe codes andconventionsof the musicvideoanditsbestbitsintothe magazine advert
and the Cd coverin orderto interestthe viewersintolisteningtoit. Thiswouldincrease the
effectivenessof the wholepackage.
Afterthe recodingof the musicvideo,Ihave lookedatotherR&B artist whomhasan advert cover
and I have seenwhatwasthe bestbit that theyhave putas the front coverinorder to increase
viewers.MybiggestinspirationwasRhianna,Asafemale characterithad helpedme tosee what
was the shoton herfront coverand I triedto see whatbitI couldput as myfront coverthat will
intrigue the viewersbutnotgive toomuchaway. The purpose of the magazine adverthadbecome
clearto me andthe purpose istoadvertise the musicvideothroughthe boldnessof the title andthe
fontusedwhichwasAdobi gothicstdB fontand bigboldwritingwhichwouldcatchthe reader’s
attentiontothe advert. Making the picture of the main characterthe mainfocuson the magazine
covershowsthe audience that the girl doesn’tlookhappyandtheymay wantto lookat the music
videotofindoutmore and the story behindthe sadness.Likewise withthe CDcoverwhichisof the
Boyfriendtryingtogetthe girlfriendandcomfortherbutshe islookingawaycryingand isn’thaving
any of it. The image lookslike the boyfriendisabusingthe girl,asina typical R&B musicvideois
whatyou wouldfind.Thismisunderstandingof the image mayfascinate the viewersandmay
intrigue themintowantingtoknowthe cause of the domesticviolence.However,the
misunderstandingof the cdalbumcovermay be negative asthe viewersmaythinkthatitis
domesticviolence butwhentheywatchitit’sjustthe male charactercomfortingthe girl,It isa bit
like sellingthe viewersthe viewsadreamalmostsomethingwhichisn’tgoingtoquiethappeninthe
scene of the musicvideoandmay disappointthe viewers.

were inspiredbyR&Bartistsof keyshiaCole.Thisartisthasinspiredustobase our musicvideoto
the theme love andheartbreaks.Inher musicvideoswe alwayssee heartbreaksgoingon.Through
camera movementsandfacial expressions,she isable toconnecttothe audience showingher
emotionstothe audience.Similarlywe have appliedthistoourownmusicvideo.10 secondsinout
musicvideowe have close upshotsof the maincharacter girl sittingonthe busfloorlooking
distressedanduncomfortable.Thisimmediatelyshowsthe audience thatthere isaproblemandit
helpsshowthe audience whatthe characterisfeeling.Thiscreatessympathyforthe characterand
curiosityforwhyshe isfeelingthisway.Thisallowsthe audience tocarryon watchingthe music
videotofindoutwhysshe is lookingdepressed.

The camerainwhichwe have usedisthe Canon EOS 1200D DSLR camera.The qualityof the camerawas up to a highstandardand had all the featuresthatwe neededforthe musicvideosuchasZoom in,Flashandan extreme front camera zoominwhere itcouldzoom inextraclose as thiswasveryuseful throughoutourmusic videoaswe neededitforthe extreme close-upshotsof the messagesthatthe ex-boyfriendwas sendingtothe girl beggingforherto get back withhim.We had ensuredthatbefore use we would charge the camera to itsfull sothat itwouldlastus the day whenwe needtogo toofar placesand filmsuchas central London. Whenwe had finishedfilming,we hadtoputall the shots fromthe SanDisk64GB Ultra SdXC SD card to the computerso that we couldstart editingthe musicvideowe alsoneededtoputthe videostoa USB so that it wouldopenupandsave our project.Incase we lose the SD card we made sure that we savedour filmingshotsonmore thanone USB so that we don’tlose anywork thatwe have done. Wheneditingourmusicvideowe useddifferentsoftwaresuchasadobe premiere pro,adobe flash professional.The software hashelpedustoeditthe musicvideo hadhelpedustoeditthe things that we don’tneedinand to addin orderto make the final piece lookasprofessional aspossible. The last stepafterthe editingwasfinishedwastouploaditontoa site calledvimeoasitconsistsof a higherqualityof videotouploadandnofeatureswithinthe musicvideowouldbe lost.

Thiswouldincrease the effectivenessof the wholepackage. Afterthe recodingof the musicvideo,Ihave lookedatotherR&B artist whomhasan advert cover and I have seenwhatwasthe bestbit that theyhave putas the front coverinorder to increase viewers.MybiggestinspirationwasRhianna,Asafemale characterithad helpedme tosee what was the shoton herfront coverand I triedto see whatbitI couldput as myfront coverthat will intrigue the viewersbutnotgive toomuchaway.
