Comparison Of Braveheart And Ahmad Ibn Fadlan From The...
Introduction
According to Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 6 22, leadership is the process of
influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and
improve the organization . This essay will analyze two different leaders, William Wallace from
Braveheart and Ahmad ibn Fadlan from The 13th Warrior. After analyzing each leader, this essay
will transition to compare the leadership lessons, concepts, perspectives, and styles I observed.
Then this essay will suggest how Army leaders can employ the aforementioned perceptions to
motivate others to accomplish missions and improve their organizations. Additionally, this essay
will recommend specific groups within the Army enterprise that ... Show more content on

However, Robert Bruce XVI, XVII, and Scottish Nobles want to settle the war diplomatically for
personnel benefits and later betray Wallace. This betrayal leads to Wallace s capture where he is
tortured and publically executed. Prior to his execution, Wallace departs the world with one last
word FREEDOM ! This word single word coupled with Wallace s inspiration and passion reunites
the Scottish Nobles, Robert Bruce XVII, and the Scottish clans to take up arms as a united front
against the English to, later, gain their independence in 1314.
Why Braveheart?
Braveheart and the character William Wallace explain how courage, passion, and inspiration can
motivate people to unite against a common threat even when the odds of success are low.
Additionally, the story of William Wallace illustrates how leadership traits can have a long lasting
effect. William Wallace stays true to his beliefs with such dedication that even under the pressure
of torture; he is capable of motivating his fellow Scotsmen to fight for freedom after his death.
This is true leadership! Anyone that can inspire a following after death has reached the highest tier
of leadership. This is the epitome of a leader. Now this essay will transition to the background of a
different type of leader, Ahmad ibn Fadlan from the motion picture, The 13th Warrior.

Philip K Dick Research Paper
What is reality? Did the past you remember actually happen? Can you exist in two realities at
once? Are you who you think you are? Through his work, science fiction author Philip K. Dick
implies that we will all be asking such questions soon. For Dick, reality is just one of his layers. All
of his novels combined together accurately predicted the world we are in now. Philip K. Dick acts
as the Charles Dickens of science fictionin his sheer density and detail. Nearly all of his works
come from the real place, which is reality. What he sees is disintegration, dirt, corruption, and that
was him; Dick looked on the dark side of the human element saw how the dark side was romantic
and incorporated those dark corners into his books. Inside this

Drawing Mediums
1.WHAT WERE THE PARAMETERS OF THE ASSIGNMENT? This assignment was drawing a
fruit or a vegetable of my choice and rendering it using three different mediums. The last drawing
permitted me to creatively portray my fruit using a mix of mediums. The first two drawings had
a set requirement. The art piece had to be the original drawing of a fruit or vegetable and in
addition to that the first drawing was asked to be fully rendered using pencil and had to be done
in pencil crayon for the second artwork. 2.WHAT PART OF YOUR ARTWORK DID YOU
FIND THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AND WHY? I find my first artwork to be the best one
compared to the other two. I was able to show many different shades and value through the use
of graphite. In addition, I am more comfortable using pencils compared to the other medias I
have used for the other artworks. It was much simpler to express texture as well, allowing me to
believe that the first graphite drawing was the best. 3.WHAT PART OF YOUR ARTWORK
DID YOU FIND LEAST SUCCESSFUL AND WHY? I find my last artwork least successful as it
did not turn out the way I have imagined. The use of markers did give the bold feel to the art
piece; however, the colouring technique was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different from using graphite, pencil crayons do not permit blending to occur easily. It may work,
but it is immensely difficult to get a result similar to that of using graphite. To get an area to have
a darker shade and to get the same value as the reference picture, layers and layers of colouring is
needed. An example would be the bottom half of the uncut star fruit. To get the shadows and the
hidden inner colour of the fruit I had to continuously layer on top of the previous layer. This, as I
have mentioned, gives the art tone as well as shades. Furthermore, a star fruit has a smooth and
shiny outer texture. To communicate this, the burnishing technique is used, in which allows the

Amphitheatre Of The Three Gauls Research Paper
Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls
The Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls is a famous sanctuary which was dedicated to the cult of
Augustus and Rome. It was celebrated by many Gallic tribes who had gathered at Lugdunum, the
Roman name of the region of Lyon in ancient times. There are many things to do in Franceas a
tourist which must include seeing all the designated historical monuments such as the
Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls. The amphitheatre was built at the foot of a hill which was then
placed at a point where the two rives of the Rhone and Saone met. A recent find in 1957 allowed
the origins of this place to be confirmed as the part of the sanctuary of Rome and Augustus. The
recent find dates the building to around 19 AD. The Amphitheatre

Topic: Voting in Election
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to vote in democratic elections to voice out their
opinions and beliefs regardless of their background, to decide for their future, and to preserve the
essence of democracy.
Attention: * Provide a vivid description of people struggling to fight for their voting rights in certain
countries. * Share relevant facts /statistics of how a small number of votes could have change the
course of history in certain countries:
I. In year 1867, one vote gave United States the state of Alaska. The 1867 purchase of Alaska was
approved by the Senate of America by the margin of just one vote paving the way ... Show more

* Ask the audience: When people in other countries are struggling to fight for voting rights, why are
we not exercising our rights, wasting it away to nothing?
Need A. Voting allows people to voice out their opinions and beliefs regardless of background.
Voting gives the population an equal opportunity completely blind of sex, race, origin, education in
contributing to community development (Akande, 2011).
B. Voting allows people to decide for their own futures.
If people do not vote, it would lead the country to a very vulnerable and perilous position due to
incompetent and irresponsible leaders. Not voting during an election is voting indirectly against
democracy and making way for irresponsible leaders (Akande, 2011).
C. Voting preserves the essence of democracy.
Voting is the foremost way to exhibit good citizenship and civil responsibility. People should get
involved in elections and educated in all political measures. By this they become good and
responsible participatory citizens. It should always be remembered that some people sacrifice their
lives to preserve the freedom and voting opportunity as a sacred right. True democracy demands the
involvement of the people otherwise in absence of that there is no democracy(Akande, 2011).
Satisfaction: I. If people vote in elections, it would reduce corruption, reduce poverty and
inequalities and lead to a better and more efficient government.

Ancient Greece s Influence On Modern Day Fashion
Ancient Greece is not just ancient history, there is a relation between ancient Greece to modern
day in several different ways. Few relations are seen in fashion, architecture, and sculpting. To
see ancient Greece still have a relation in the 21st century is remarkable. The hallmark of
ancient Greek fashion was elaborate draping, not much detail and can also see images of Greek
styles painted on pottery. You see in today s clothing the white one shoulder dress for women
which is considered a formal dress, people relate it to the Greek Goddess dress . It flows over on
one side, with usually a gold accent belt to go along with the dress. In addition, there are sandals
that have been in fashion for few years now, called gladiators . The strapped... Show more content

The use of their patterns in pottery, architecture, and furniture, introduced how to decorate anything
in modern day. From paintings, to interior decorating, you see the use of ancient Greek patterns in
the industry. For sculpting, ancient Greece influenced sculpting today by introducing detail to
sculpting. They used marble, stone, limestone, and clay to create their sculptures. That has helped
us create the base of the materials we use today for sculpting and even with architecture. In modern
day architecture, we have almost simplified the way buildings look. Fourunately, ancient Greece
architectural influence is still seen mostly at formal banquet halls today. The columns in entry
ways, usually the capital is either doric or ionic. The interior well detailed with the use of marble
as flooring, and patterns is still seen in modern day architecture. Over all, ancient Greece s
influence is easily spotted today in interior decorating with the furniture and art work. The fashion
will continue to bring the patterns and styles, and will continue to relate it to ancient Greece since
it has been for several years

Myasthenia Gravis Research Paper
Myasthenia gravis is considered an autoimmune disease because people who have it carry an
antibody called polyclonal that destroys the acetylcholine receptors (Neurology, 2013). These
antibodies destroy receptor sites in the neuromuscular junction faster than the body can produce
them. Usually antibodies protect the body from foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses, but in
the case of MG it attacks accessories that are required for muscle movement. In a study conducted
by Jon Lindstrom and Seybold Marjorie (1998), it was concluded that out of 71 patients with MG,
87 percent of them had a greater amount of antibodies for destroying acetlycholine receptors than
normal (Lindstrom Marjorie, 1998). They compared this amount to 175 patients... Show more

For example, anti acetylcholinesterase agents like Mestinon are available; these stop the
breakdown of acetlycholine allowing more to be created, letting more of it to be attached to
receptors (Product Information, 2005). Mesttinon and similar medications have been around for
almost fifty years, however they do cause nausea, muscle cramps and involuntary twitches. There is
also corticosteroids like prednisone which basically which reduce acetylcholine receptor antibody
(Treatment for MG, 2010). They are inexpensive but they may cause hypertension and diabetes
(Treatment for MG, 2010). Another major approach to treating myasthenia gravis is removing the
thymus gland. Between ten to fifteen percent of patients with MG have a tumor in this gland. The
relationship between myasthenia gravis and the thymus gland is still a topic under major study and
for the most part is unclear. However, some scientist say the thymus gland is what produces the
acetylcholine receptor antibodies. Over the years, patients with MG have gotten this thymus gland
removal done and have experienced improvement in muscle weakness. A study done by Giuseppe
Marulli, Marco Schiavon, Egle Perissinotto and their colleagues (2012) looked at 100 patients with
MG who went through the surgery to remove the thymus gland (Marulli et al., 2012). The results

Feminism In Margaret Atwood s Alias Grace
The book Alias Grace worked through the investigation into the trial of Grace Marks. Allegedly,
Grace Marks, a humble house servant, worked with a fellow coworker to kill two of her
employers. However, the mystery comes into play because Grace never admitted to the crimes.
Instead, she pleaded innocenece and was convicated to a life in a penitentiary, but after over a
decade in prison, a psychologist comes to try and solve the m,ysetery: did Grace Kill them, did
she not kill them, was she acting in free will or under insdanity, were the murders promted by an
affairthe public wanted answers to the questions they still asked. WHile the book chronicals the
exploration of a mystery, the book s purpose isn t just to get to the bottom of things,... Show more

As a feminist reader, I first saw Grace as a feminist woman: she stood up to her father by getting a
job and staying with the job even though that meant leaving her family, and she worked all
through her teen years, making her a woman in the workplace . She even worked when men
didn t, as the book mentioned a boy her age Jamie didn t have as much responsibility as she did.
However, Atwood created a conflict within Grace on the subject of sexuality by having Grace
extremely anti sexuality for woman. Countless times throughout the book she looked down on
female sex workers and woman who had affairs and even rejected the advcances of men because
she did not believe it was valid for a woman to want sexual liberation. Especially on the subject of
sex wokrers, she judged men for going to them with the equivilant of a slap on the wrist where
as if she had her way, she d kick every prostiutute by the booty out of her town. Whenever she
saw or thought of them, she d call them whores and discuss how she d rather kill herself than
indulge in sex for money. I saw this as conflicting, because prostitutes are stiill women in the
workplace and they support themselves rather than having men support them, and Grace does
the same thing, just by housekeeping, not sex. Still, I d assume Grace would support fellow
woman, but she outright attacks them. Atwood uses a murder mystery and a facet of the
murder was it affair driven to touch on how feminism varies and there ;s a difference between
men and woman in terms of sex that even strong omwan like Grace refuse to rectify. Atwood
uses details of Grace s story to make a social crituque on how men and woman differ in terms of
sexual liberation, and how it s still not see as equal for men to be whores and women to be
whores. Even today, girls get called sluts for having sex whereas men get high fives, especially
from parents, and part of the reason is the threat of pregancy,

How Successful Has the Welfare State Been in Delivering...
The majority of those who have a reasonably satisfactory understanding of the welfare state will
agree that the definition entails; a nation whereby the government undertake appropriate action to
ensure the provision of social goods and benefits. These welfare programs are usually provided
at public expense with little or no cost to the recipient of the services. Policy prescriptions
advanced by proponents of the welfare state emphasise securing a minimum standard of living for
all of the population where no one is denied an essential service which might be available to
others. This includes the production of social goods and services, the control of the business cycle
and the manipulation of total output to allow for social costs... Show more content on

In order for the welfare state to be successful at delivering equality among the population the
preceding factors must first be achieved. In order for educational equality to be attempted, financial
barriers separating those who can afford educational fees and those who cannot must be minimised
or removed. If everyone is entitled to the same opportunity of education then, equality can be
sought after. This was apparent during the period 1974 1979, where it was recognised that a
redistribution of educational resources towards girls, women and minority groups as well as
towards the working class is required. Thus, aiming at giving everyone the same opportunity for an
education. Contained in the 1998 Human Rights Act is an authoritative statement which is
essential for the basis of equality. It states that `no person shall be denied the right to education ,
although a rather basic statement, it provides the basis for equality of opportunity which is
essential since education is an investment on behalf of the wider society. The 1944 Education Act
contained the idea of delivering educational opportunity to all those that may be concerned. Thus,
the movement towards equality was evident and ever becoming a reality. In its implementation,
equality was seen as the removal of financial barriers to different types of secondary education to
permit selection based on ability and aptitude. Equality amongst all was intended with

The Effects Of Global Warming On Health, Spatial...
Reptilian populations are under constant scrutiny from the environment. The reptilian populations
rely on close to equal sex ratios for their species to thrive. With the changing climate more and more
reptiles are at risk. This is because global warming may influence health, spatial distribution,
growth, and reproductive output (Simoncini 2014). Along with that, the change in temperature will
affect the incubation temperature, embryonic development, sexratios, and hatchling success
(Simoncini 2014). Not only that, but global change may result in a stronger sex ratiobias, which
could lead to extinction of TSD reptiles (Hulin et al 2009). An all maleor all female biased
population adds more stress on a population to survive. Scientists are concerned populations will
dwindle or possibly become extinct if reptilian species cannot adapt to climate change. Global
warming will result in increased atmospheric temperature in a short time scale and may modify
several life history traits in populations (Hulin et al 2009). Reptilian species may not have the time
to physically adapt to the environmental changes. Species could overcome climate change by
modification of nesting phenology or behavior (Hulin et al 2009). Some temperature dependent
sex determined species may be able to compensate by nesting in cooler areas (Refsnider 2012). Not
only will temperature change affect sex ratios, but it can alter offspring phenotypes and
performance. A study was conducted to observe the effect

Gender Roles And Gender Stereotypes In The Media
Gender roles influence every characteristic and aspect of our life, from how we feel about
ourselves to the degree of our contribution in social life. From a ripe young age, children become
exposed to this type of gender bias right away, which can negatively affect and shape their whole
outlook on life. Consequently, as these young boys and girls mature both physically and
emotionally and move on into adulthood, they are, in essence, shoved into a world that impacts
their attitudes and behaviors towards genderroles and stereotypes. These specific attitudes and
behaviors first cultivate in the private doors of their parent s house. Afterwards, these same
biases become reinforced by the child s peers, school experience (education), television viewing,
and, of course, advertisements in the realm of print and television media. From the looks of it, it
is near impossible, for children to not become subject to some degree of gender bias at an early
age. As a child grows and develops, the stereotypes follow them into the next phases of their lives
(i.e. adolescence) and then on into adulthood. Not only are these gender stereotypes destroying
girls, they are also killing boys. The components of this essay will attempt to illustrate how
advertising in print and television helps to perpetuate gender stereotypes in our world. Along with
that, one must ask the question of how much harm these negative biases in gender roles truly
affects the minds of men, women, and young children.

The Searchers Essay
Development and adaptation of the western genre has occurred throughout the twentieth century in
relation to the shift in context, this is still relevant. Stereotypes of a western genre and the context
are determined by the time in which the film is being produced. The time in which they were

This is similar to the opening scene of The Searchers because, both scenes are isolated, in both
movies the characters are alone or civilization is too far, they lie in the quite part of things. They
both open with a suspenseful mood. Conflict is present in the both of the films, heroes and villains
present.
Moving onto gender roles and ideas, these characteristics in genders are needed in any sort of
story to suit the values and attitudes of the people of that time. Gender stereotypes are a major
piece to the puzzle of a film. Women are generally seen as less dominant, pushovers, the cares of
everyone and that they have no independence. Whist men are seen as the more dominant,
masculine, heroes, brave and courageous. This is across all genres of movies, the girl is the
damsel in distress and the boy ends up saving her at the end of it.
These stereotypes were strongly enforced when in The Searchers the Reverend comes to the family
s house to announce that the father is setting off with him to battle the Indians. The men are looked
after, they have their coats taken off them and they are served food and drink, whereas the woman
re running around after them ensure they re satisfied, when the men set off the women collect for

monkeys recognized with the Black Spider Monkey included. The Black Spider Monkey is the
largest of them all. These adorable monkeys have long, shiny black hair covering their bodies,
except for the face, which is red or pink. One thing that makes these monkeys stand out against
other monkeys is their long, prehensile (defined as capable of grasping ) tails. With this fifth
limb, they have more stability when resting in trees and grasping branches. For extra ease in
swinging through the trees, they have an extra mobile shoulder joint. These monkeys are large,

Is Doing The Right Thing Wrong By David Montero
Child Labor
Your child is the person you have taken care of since birth. That does not change around the
globe. What does change is how the child lives their life. Do they spend their evenings dancing to
a popular tune bought on a $200 iPod, enough to buy food for a month for a poverty stricken
family, or sewing the seams of shoes together so they can earn money, only for some childthe same
age to wear it once and forget about it. Would you stop buying these products just because they
were made by someone around the age of your child? Do you really think you ll be helping them by
not buying these products instead of donating to the nearest charity? People should not halt their
consumption of products just because children were the manufacturers.
Many children work in factories to help support their families. As Americans, we always say to
help others in need, but when we find out children are working to support the family, we believe
not buying the products made is beneficial and just when in reality it hurts the child. According to

It Is Better Here Essay
It s Better Here jc Keadle Gold 5 Colorado runs through my veins in partnership with my blood.
The air, the trees, the animals, the rivers, the mountains, and the people are part of the makeup
of my DNA. I feel like I belong here, standing between the Rocky Mountains, and I think this is
partially due to the fact that the paternal half of my family used to call this place home.
Everything in Colorado appeals to me; it s better here. The air is better here. It probably still has
traces of the contaminants from big cities and automobiles, but the air is cleaner here than it is in
the industrial playground of the Midwest. The air smells of the earth, and it s the most relaxing
scent I have inhaled in my nearly eighteen years. Maybe it s... Show more content on

However, the mountains are ruthless towards every living thing in the winter and spring months
with sudden blizzards and chilling winds. The mountains are the guardians of the west, and their
rocky magnificence is something that cannot compare to any sand filled paradise. It s so
peaceful here. Birds singing, water gushing, and leaves rustling. Bears wander down from the
hills to feed on fish and splash in the cool streams. Deer prance through fields of tall grasses and
yellow wildflowers. Small birds dart between pine trees and cedar trees, and squirrels curiously
scurry around the forest floor. If you re lucky (and I was), you ll see an antelope grazing on
grasses and leaves near the road. The variety of wildlife makes this place different, and the
people here only add to the list of rarities found only in Colorado. Colorado is especially unique
in its culture. Everyone lives alongside one another in harmony. Cowboys neighbor businessmen
and businessmen neighbor criminals, but no one seems to mind (as long as you re a Bronco s
fan). The Colorado culture is so diverse and accepting of its thrill seeking visitors. The diversity
of Colorado is evident in every aspect including its dining options. The child version of my father

there with my grandmother allowed for a trip down memory lane. The stories are not hard to

Keeping Your Grill s Exhaust System
Running a restaurant can be a challenging task for a variety of reasons, but keeping your grill s
exhaust system clean should not be a task that causes you stress or concern. This type of work is
essential both for to prevent grease fires from starting in your exhaust system as well as providing
a sanitary place for the preparation of food. If you have a thorough understanding of two basic
questions new kitchen managers may have about this process, you should find managing this aspect
of your kitchen to be far easier than you may have originally thought.
What If Your Exhaust Looks Clean?
You may assume that your exhaust hood is clean because the exterior has been thoroughly washed.

The Importance Of Design In Nature
Every particle in nature represents the complex, and intricate structure of the universe. The human
body alone undergoes many different processes per second, and yet, is able to do so almost
without error. It s almost undeniable that there is design in nature, however, many question whether
or not this design just came about or if it implies that a designer exists. Science and religion attempt
to explain design in nature in a much different context, and seem to be in conflict with one another
about the existence of a designer. Arguably, I believe that there is a loophole, in which both science
and religion can be integrated as one, and can function together to explain design in nature.
Beginning with the Big Bang, and Creationism to Evolution, and design in nature, religion
provides science with answers and vice versa. God is not the sole worker in nature, nor is he the
supreme power, but he allows for natural processes to take their course. Academics from a vast
range of fields can all agree that there is design in nature, meaning that nature doesn t consist of
random things thrown together without a purpose. Instead, almost everything in nature is
intricately designed to achieve certain tasks. Design in nature can be compared to a jigsaw puzzle
in the sense that each piece is designed to fit another piece, and they match up perfectly. For
example, when our DNA goes through the replication process, an error is made at approximately
every one hundred thousand nucleotide.

Auschwitz Concentration Camp Analysis
Rationale
In this written assignment I would like to write about discrimination against Jewish and the living
conditions inside of the Auschwitz concentration camp from the perspective of an infiltrated
journalist. This topic is strongly related to the Boy in the Straight Pyjamas book. The main plot of
this story is about how two boys develop a friendship, in spite of the fact that one of them is a
Jewish interned in the camp and the other one is the son of the Nazi commandant who manages the
camp.
Firstly, I have decided to use the format of an article due to the fact that I fell it is the most
appropriate format to address this subject from the point of view of a journalist. Moreover, I have
chosen formal language as the register I am going to use since the article is aimed at the newspaper
readers, who are mostly adults.

As Pavel, a Jewish prisoner who is now working in the commandants house explained me, the
barracks have as many as a thousand prisoners inside, which is insane given the limited capacity.
This issue along with starvation, because of the need of food and the development of contagious
diseases, due to the absence of cleanliness are the main causes of death among prisoners. In the
same way, violence and brutality from the Nazis towards the prisoners are also involved in this
matter. In particular daily murders, deadly experiments with prisoners and also gas chambers where
massive killings are being held.
As far as i am concerned, the living conditions in the Auschwitz concentration camp are terribly bad
and a lot of people are dying everyday because of this heartbreaking situation. The main purpose of
this article is to show how this war is unfairly affecting a lot of population. Furthermore, how we
need to stop this for the better, otherwise, this situation will continue and a growing number of

Reflection Paper On Thanksgiving Day
On Thanksgiving Day, I decided to observe my 86 year old grandmother. I was with her for the
whole day. My observation began that morning when she woke up and walked into the living
room. My grandma started off with turning on the coffee maker. While her coffee was brewing
she went and took a shower. When she was done showering she went to make her a cup of coffee
and then she had a seat on the couch. My grandma told my little cousinto bring her purse out of her
room. He brought it to her. She then pulled out a bag of pills. She picked out 5 different ones and
then took them with her cup of coffee. She then took the rollers out of her hair as she sat and
watched the morning news. While she was watching the news, she remembered that the Macy s
ThanksgivingParade was on and told me to turn the channel to it.
While we watched the parade, my cousin and aunts were in the kitchen finishing up our
thanksgiving meal. I made a joke and asked my grandma if she was going to help cook this year.
She scoffed and said, My days of cooking are over...I m too old for that . She then made a
comment about how she is hurting and could not stand up for long. She continued to eat her
breakfast. She ate very slow, it took her about fort five minutes to finish it all. As my cousin cooked
my grandma shouted out pointers to her in the kitchen. She started to get tired of shouting, so she
decided to move to the kitchen table so that she could help. My cousin bought her the ingredients to

Biography of Dwight David Eisenhower Essay
Biography of Dwight David Eisenhower
On October 14, 1890, Mrs. Ida Elizabeth Eisenhower gave birth to her third son, Dwight David.
He was a younger brother to Arthur B. and Edgar A. Eisenhower. Dwight was born in Denison,
Texas, where his family was living at the time.
After his father s general store went out of business in Abilene, Kansas, they were forced to move to
Texas, where Mr. David Eisenhowerlanded a forty dollar a month job at a small railroad there.
Back in Abilene, a new creamery plant was built and an old friend of Mr. Eisenhower asked him
to move back and work for him. It did not pay much more than his job in Texas, but the chance of
advancement was better. In the spring of 1891, the Eisenhower family boarded a ... Show more

Ike was always full of courage. Most people believed that he got it from his mother. In eighth
grade, Ike demonstrated this courage in a great way. On his way home from school, Ike fell and
scratched his knee. It was a tiny cut and he thought nothing of it. However, over the next two
days, blood poisoning set in and from the knee down swelled up, and turned black. The doctors
then drew a black line right above his kneecap and insisted that they amputate, or Ike would die.
Ike said that he would rather die than live as a cripple. His parents left the decision up to him.
For the next two weeks, the swelling spread. When the pain became unbearable and Ike knew he
was about to pass out, he called his brothers to his side and made them promise not to let the
doctors amputate. Over the next few nights, Ike s brothers stood guard at the door. As Ike s leg
grew blacker and swelled bigger, with a smelly pus oozing from the cut, doctors decided that it
would be murder not to amputate, but Ike stood his ground. The next day, the swelling started to
go down and the fever dropped, too. His recovery was slow, but complete.
As a boy, Ike had a horrible temper and was very stubborn. In high school, Ike acquired an outlet
for his energies. He became one of the town s top athletes, excelling as an outfielder in baseball
and a tackle in football. He even organized and became president of the Abilene High School

The Importance Of Weather In Literature
Angelina Blackwell
AP Literature and Composition
Mrs. Smith
9/20/17
Weather can influence many things in literature. It can influence the mood, plot, characters, setting.
Foster makes it very clear to us that an author will never put weather into a story with no reasoning
behind it. Weather is not just simply a setting in literature.
The author begins the chapter It s More Than Just Rain or Snow by explaining what mood the quote
It was a dark and stormy night creates. He explains how weather is never placed in a story for no
reason. Weather is a factor used to create a mood in the passage. A sunny day with no clouds in
sight... will create a happy mood while the reader could be imagining themselves in the story
being outside on a beautiful clear day with the sunshine hitting them just right. That could put
anyone in a cheerful mood, right? If the author started a story with The rain was beating down on
the roof as I realized it had been my first night without him... . Now obviously if the character had
just lost someone they would be sad but adding rain to the scene adds the effect of sadness and
allows the reader jump in the book to feel what the character is feeling.
When meeting characters in the beginning of novels, the author can add how they perceive
weather to let the readers get a feel for how observing they are. If the character pays no mind to the
weather the reader may see that had acted as ignorant.
Chapter 10 elaborates on how weather can

Neighbours By Tim Winton Analysis
An individual s growth is induced by their experiences of and response to discovery. The extent of
their discovery is determined by their will to embrace the process and the connections made.
Discoveries can provoke unexpected emotive responses, as did the journey undertaken by the
participants in Ivan O Mahoney s documentary Go Back To Where You Came From. Else, they
may result in the desire to re evaluate perceptions of the world, made evident in Tim Winton s short
story, Neighbours. Both texts explore the experience of self discovery through which the

Thus, proving that When forced out of their comfort zone, an individual s will to learn can result
in a change of perceptions and attitudes over time. Winton s short story begins as a young couple

made the newly weds feel like sojourners in a foreign land . The young couple had been were not
used to the behaviour of their new neighbours and the limited space between their houses as they
had previously lived in the expansive outer suburbs with neighbours that were seldom seen and
never heard . The repetition of the seasons; autumn merged into winter and by late summer
symbolises the length of time the couple take to become familiar with their new neighbours and
accept and embrace their cultural differences. When the neighbours found out the young woman
was pregnant, they showered her with compliments and presents making her feel flattered,
claustrophobic, grateful, peeved . Through this oxymoron, the hormonal impact of the pregnancy is
illuminated and her previous, solely negative attitudes have altered towards her new neighbours as
these acts of kindness have overwhelmed her and she sees they re just trying to help. Therefore,

The First Coalition At The Battle Of Waterloo
On June 18, 1815 , Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated by the Sixth Coalition at the Battle of

Logos In The Declaration Of Independence
What were Thomas Jefferson s, Alexander Hamilton s, John Jay s, and James Madison s reasons
behind the United States historical government documents? During the time period of the founding
father s the American colonies were barely starting to form a government and it had its flaws and
they still had to deal with gaining their independence from Great Britain. The Declaration of
Independence written by Thomas Jeffersonwas written to give reasons to why the American
colonies are going to separate from Great Britain. Hamilton, Jay, and Madison wrote the
Federalists Papers to try and convince the people of the American colonies to ratify the new
constitution. In the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson gives logical reasoning and also
emotional reasoning through the type of words he uses and in the Federalists Papers they use
logical reasoning and their credibity to convince the people. When Thomas Jefferson writes the
Declaration of Independence he writes it to explain why the American colonies will be separating
from Great Britian. He does that by using logos. An example of this from the Declaration of
Independence is when he writes about the king of Great Britain changing things. For taking away
our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our
Governments: . This passage explains some of the reasons why they separate from Great Britain,
Jefferson uses actual facts so that Great Britain can t deny it. Through out the entire declaration he
uses logos to back up why the American colonies leave. He doesn t want people to think they are
leaving just for no reason.
In the Federalists Papers No.10 James Madison explains all the things that the Union promised,
but how they never kept the promise. He explains this by using logos. In the Federalists Papers
No.10 he gives his knowledge on the situation of the government and explains how even the people
realize the government is messed up. Complaints are everywhere heard from our most considerate
and virtuous citizens, equally the friends of public and private faith, and of public and personal
liberty, that our governments are too unstable, that the public good is disregarded in the conflicts of

Solar System Advantages
There are many different items that make up the solar system, and they are all classified very
differently. Two of the most important items in our solar system are the planets and the moons.
They differ in geologic activity, composition, interior structure, magnetic fields, and atmospheres.
There are multiple probe missions, both past and present, that support these concepts. There are
physical factors and characteristics that are important in determining the property of the items. In
this paper, I will discuss all of these topics as well as what benefits I think there are so studying
other worlds as well as the benefits I see to studying the solar systemand why. The moonhas no real
atmosphere so there can be no weatherly erosion, which is an issue some planets have. The
atmosphere is basically comprised of gases that surround the moon. The moon has an extremely

Fog In Apocalypse Now
An ominous feeling can be evoked in novels and films alike when fog approaches. The
encroaching fog constraints mankind by physically limiting visibility and trapping men within
their own minds causing their behavior to be irrational. Fog is symbolic of misery. Heart of
Darkness uses thick fog as an obstacle to halt the crew s expedition to find Kurtz. Marlow, the
crew s captain, does not allow the fog to stop his devotion to Kurtz and pushes forward on his
mission to rescue him. In Apocalypse Now, Willard feels the same devotion towards Kurtz as
Marlow does. But Willard has a different mission; Willard must remove Kurtz from operating as a
rogue officer in Vietnam. As the fog approaches in the final scenes of Apocalypse Now directed by
Francis Ford Coppola, the impending doom is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Completely delusional, Kurtz exclaims the horror! The horror! and passes away naturally
(Conrad 112). Marlow keeps his loyalty to Kurtz after his death to honor the devotion he felt for
Kurtz when he was alive (Conrad 112). Willard felt a similar devotion to Kurtz, but faced a
different decision. Kurtz was not in the best state of health, but he wasn t actively dying. Kurtz
spared Willard s life when he arrived at his camp unannounced, however, Willard did not spare
Kurtz s life and had to follow the instructions of his mission. Willard murders Kurtz. Willard
opted to kill Kurtz rather than take him back because of the devotion he felt. Kurtz had nothing
to go home to and would have been imprisoned for acting as a rogue officer. By killing Kurtz,
Willard saves him from the horrors he would have been greeted with from the punishment of the
military. The cutting of the film limits Kurtz s murder scene. Instead, a ceremonial cow s sacrifice
by the natives is shown. The ceremonial, sacred cow was valued greatly by the natives, like Kurtz
was by Willard, who remained loyal to Kurtz to the last, and even beyond (Conrad

The Effect of The New Deal on United States Economy in Crisis
Ever since the details of the Great Depression began to emerge from the post World War I rubble;
historians have wondered how such a horrific catastrophe could have taken place. The following
investigation will examine the role of the New Deal in improving the U.S. economic crisis from
two differing perspectives: the New Deal, when viewed as a whole, was an economical
achievement of epic proportions, and that none of the successes associated with the economic crises
during the Great Depression era can be attributed to the New Deal.
The frame of the investigation will seek to explain and evaluate both view points through Carl N. ...

result in the betterment of a tough economic situation faced by Americans nationwide. Degler,
however, sees the problem differently. According to him, the N.R.A. was a disappointment as it
failed to accomplish what it was intended to. The codes established by the employers were being
ignored and instead drastic measures to increase production rates were being implemented. As a
result, the N.R.A. could not endure because it violated the powerful American belief in

Another approach is the reformist organization set up by the Federal Government to improve the

the Violin Sonata No. 3 to Hans von BГјlow, a later great friend of Brahms.
However, this particular violin sonata is different than the other two; the emotions of this piece are

Yet, A Reading Of Deleuzeв

Yet, a reading of Deleuze s concept of becomings enable to approach the transitions from girl to
woman as discontinuous. Opposed to a measured linear unfolding and the idea of moving forward
evolution, it ought to capture the movement and doing of subjectivity as always in process. The
movement is thus rhizomatic, separated in multiple directions, thus divorcing the established idea
of linear transition. Feminine adolescence is not a transition from one state to another but a
contingent and in some senses reversible movement. Becomings therefore disrupt the public
imagined temporality which consider the innocent girl to slowly transform into an experienced

During this time, the young female leans between two polarized state: maturity and innocence. She
experiences biological changes, inducing the maturation of her body with notably the swelling of

Volunteering Plan
Volunteering is one of the many ways to give back to a community and the people within it. When
a person volunteers it is normally because he or she wants to repay the community in which he or
she currently resides. Not only does it give back to the community, but it also helps establish new
relationships with people within that community. Lending a hand to someone in need is something
that should be identified as an important task, rather than being understood as a burden. Whether it
is feeding the homeless people or helping rid the highways of litter, there are many ways to provide

Culture In Things Fall Apart By Kwame Anthony Achebe

different and unique. In Kwame Anthony Appiahs novel cosmopolitism, in the chapter Whose

When the white men came to Okonkwo s village they wanted to live in peace at first and for a

Biological Theory Of Deviance Essay
To explain the difference between biological, psychological and structural approaches to
theorizing deviance, one must breakdown each approach separately. To begin, I would like to
start with the biological theory which suggests that deviance may be linked to a certain physical
body characteristic or particular arranging of chromosomes leading to an inclination of deviance.
Behavior in this theory is also constricted to that particular body part in deviance, but biological
theories unsuccessfully explain why people with similar biological characteristics differ. Some
people turn to the direction of deviant behaviors while others adapt to social rules. Crime and
deviant behaviors are both seen as a type of infirmity in the biological theory... Show more content

These three bodies were ectomorphs, endomorphs, and mesomorphs, so study says. Continuing
on, biological theorist builds trust in the extra Y chromosome theory. It is believed that criminals
have a formation of XYY chromosomes and not an XY chromosome structure. This creates a
solid force making a person commit crimes. This is what we call the super male. When looking at
the psychological theory of deviance, one can see that it mirrors biological methods in so many
ways, but with an extension of brain functions. It is the belief of the psychological approach that
criminals and deviants agonize over personality deficiencies. These approaches use one s inner self
to explain their incentive and instinct to interrupt society s norms. Theories have touched bases on
clarification of how one s mind and personalities affect their deviance in the late eighteenth century.
Both biological and psychological approaches seem to focus on the individual themselves and their
personalities. Much of the social conditions and life situation are not under consideration. They
tend to blame the individual for their deviant behavior and while encouraging stereotyping, affect
public policy. The consideration of deviance is overlooked as a social

Impact Of The Huge Investment On The Economy Of Commerce...
As it was mentioned before, Carr has good points regarding the huge investment on IT in the

the second stage too. He wrote this article in 2003 and maybe he was not aware enough about what
the real value of IT is. Although there are many successful companies which invested a lot on their
IT systems, but he insisted to underestimate the value of these investments. The huge investments

Now, it is hard for any company to survive in the global market without advance IT systems. I
think we do not have a lot of opportunities in this world. If we have a chance, we have to exploit it
right away and do not wait for others to have it. He had a point when he said waiting will save
some money, but this money is considered as an investment and not loss. There are many reasons
why these giant companies are successful in their business.
Investing in new IT systems will
* Reduce costs
Giant companies such as Amazon uses its ITs systems as an effective way to reduce costs. The IT
enables Amazon to have a competitive advantage over other rivals and leave them behind. IT was
not only help Amazon to do what it did before, but it was also enable it to expand more in new
directions.
* Create and build barriers to entry
Once a company has an advancement in their IT systems, it will be harder for others companies to
compete in the same business. These new rivals have to invest heavily to reach the same level of
the company that invest in its IT systems before them. Also, these rivals will try to copy the
successful company while the successful company works on something more advance.
These two factors are the most important factors that enabled these companies to be dominant in
their business.

are trying to get a bite before work. Most people do not have either the time or skills to prepare
something at home, and fast food restaurants make it possible for their customers to still get a
chance to eat no matter what the situation may be. Even worse, if a parent is taking his or her
child to school in the morning, they will also get a happy meal for their kids to eat on the way
to school. Advertisements have been targeted towards children to manipulate them that fast food
is good and cool because it comes with a toy. This toy is a key player in getting more and more
kids into fast food restaurants and eating their unhealthy food. More importantly, studies have
shown that Fast food is mainly targeted to children. The restaurants are advertising toys to
children; this will bring them in. Some fast food restaurants are the world s largest distributors of

the children are in the restaurant, they buy the fast food to get a toy. The high fat foods taste good

How Water Is The Water Of The Future Essay
Thousands have lived without love, but not one without water. A.H ADUEN. There cannot be
life without water. Over centuries scientist have said that life began in water. Water makes up
fifty percent to sixty percent of the average human body. To stay healthy, we must at least drink
eight glasses of water a day, we cannot survive three days without water. As you see water is
obligatory to the world; in fact, nothing on earth could survive without it. There could be no life
without water. But what if one day there were no water around to drink? Why should we care
about the water of the future, and what can we do to save water from decreasing? As you read
through any science textbook and you ll read that water is renewable, that although it is used, it
is never used up. But water usage is increasing. Although water covers three fourths of the earth, 97
percent of it is salt water, and more than two percent is frozen in glaciers and icecaps. That means
less than one percent of all water on this earth is usable, while water usage per person averages
100,000 gallons per year. The world s six billion citizens are appropriating 54 percent of all the
accessible fresh water. United Nations research shows that by 2025, The researchers expect 5

The Ice Of Drilling For Ice Cores
The Ice Chronicles is an in depth look at one scientists story of drilling for ice cores in arctic
climates. The book also describes how the ice cores are drilled and how the ice cores are
processed. The team of scientists use the ice cores and the chemical composition of them to get a
better grasp of past climates and climatechanges. The main drilling mentioned is the Greenland Ice
Sheet Project that was overseen by many agencies and supported by multiple higher education
institutions. The project took many seasons and the teamwork of many top scientists from many
top universities and research organizations. The data recovered from the thousands of meters of
drilled ice contained the answers to many questions pertaining to the climate of now and the way
the world climate once was. The drillwas positioned at the very top of a glacier in a spot that was
studied closely to make sure the project could yield the most accurate data for observation. The
project took place in the early 1990 s and was completed by the 2000 s, but the data collected will
help serve the world population for lifetimes ahead. The research conducted proves that humans
have had some impact on the global climate, and also proves that the world goes through natural
climate changes that last longer than human population has ever inhabited Earth.

Judge Danforth Quotes
In the play, The Crucible, Judge Danforth is an extremely important character. He plays a
significant role in the plot of the story, mainly because he is the person who presides over the
witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts. Generally, as a person, Judge Danforth is gruff and
emotionless. Although, as the play goes on, one can tell that he is quite vulnerable and gullible at
the same time. Danforth s decisions and actions have a huge part in the story, and it is interesting to
see how his beliefs play out. In The Crucible, Judge Danforth is determined to stop the hysteria over
the accusations of witchcraft, but he ultimately ends up adding more chaos and tragedy to the
situation at hand.
To begin, Judge Danforth is a very powerful and influential character when it comes to the Salem
Witch Trials. He is the deputy governor of the town, and it his responsibility to determine the fates
of the accused. It all begins when the girls are caught dancing and singing in the woods with
Tituba. They decide to accuse her (and their) actions of being those of witchcraft to avoid getting in

be wrong; that would be too bad for his own reputation. Therefore, innocent people continue to die.
For example, during the trial when John Proctor admits his affair with Abigail, Danforth says, You
deny every scrap and tittle of this? . Abby then responds with an overly sassy answer, yet Danforth
does nothing about it. He just continues to believe Abby s wicked accusations and denials, even

The Flag On The Island Essay
binary oppositions in V.S. Naipaul s short story The Flag on the Island . This aim is achieved via
using Derrida s deconstruction and Bhabha s definition of these terms. Considering culture as a
means of domination to get possession of control over the instruments of collective self definition is
considered as a very significant policy in the political and cultural conflict for emancipation. This
article focuses on a tension between recently autonomous nation and former colonial beliefs which
results in binarism between modern and traditional values that led to the denigration of non Western
cultures. Therefore, the writer attempts to show how the characters of this story make effort to
abolish this idea and retrieve the local and native traditions that were destructed during colonialism.
This study concentrates on all characters and examines their contradictions and their effort for
consistency that can be discussed through a deconstructive analysis.
Key words: Mimicry, Colonialism, Post colonialism, Binary opposition, Culture.

This betrayal leads to Wallace s capture where he is tortured and publically executed. Prior to his execution, Wallace departs the world with one last word FREEDOM ! Through his work, science fiction author Philip K. Dick implies that we will all be asking such questions soon. For Dick, reality is just one of his layers. All of his novels combined together accurately predicted the world we are in now. Philip K. Dick acts as the Charles Dickens of science fictionin his sheer density and detail. Nearly all of his works come from the real place, which is reality. • 4. Drawing Mediums 1.WHAT WERE THE PARAMETERS OF THE ASSIGNMENT? This assignment was drawing a fruit or a vegetable of my choice and rendering it using three different mediums. The last drawing permitted me to creatively portray my fruit using a mix of mediums. The first two drawings had a set requirement. The art piece had to be the original drawing of a fruit or vegetable and in addition to that the first drawing was asked to be fully rendered using pencil and had to be done in pencil crayon for the second artwork. 2.WHAT PART OF YOUR ARTWORK DID YOU FIND THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AND WHY? I find my first artwork to be the best one compared to the other two. I was able to show many different shades and value through the use of graphite. In addition, I am more comfortable using pencils compared to the other medias I have used for the other artworks. It was much simpler to express texture as well, allowing me to believe that the first graphite drawing was the best. 3.WHAT PART OF YOUR ARTWORK DID YOU FIND LEAST SUCCESSFUL AND WHY? I find my last artwork least successful as it did not turn out the way I have imagined. The use of markers did give the bold feel to the art piece; however, the colouring technique was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different from using graphite, pencil crayons do not permit blending to occur easily. It may work, but it is immensely difficult to get a result similar to that of using graphite. To get an area to have a darker shade and to get the same value as the reference picture, layers and layers of colouring is needed. An example would be the bottom half of the uncut star fruit. To get the shadows and the hidden inner colour of the fruit I had to continuously layer on top of the previous layer. This, as I have mentioned, gives the art tone as well as shades. Furthermore, a star fruit has a smooth and shiny outer texture. To communicate this, the burnishing technique is used, in which allows the shiny and smooth texture to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Ask the audience: When people in other countries are struggling to fight for voting rights, why are we not exercising our rights, wasting it away to nothing? Need A. Voting allows people to voice out their opinions and beliefs regardless of background. Voting gives the population an equal opportunity completely blind of sex, race, origin, education in contributing to community development (Akande, 2011). B. Voting allows people to decide for their own futures. If people do not vote, it would lead the country to a very vulnerable and perilous position due to incompetent and irresponsible leaders. Not voting during an election is voting indirectly against democracy and making way for irresponsible leaders (Akande, 2011). C. Voting preserves the essence of democracy. Voting is the foremost way to exhibit good citizenship and civil responsibility. People should get involved in elections and educated in all political measures. By this they become good and responsible participatory citizens. It should always be remembered that some people sacrifice their lives to preserve the freedom and voting opportunity as a sacred right. True democracy demands the involvement of the people otherwise in absence of that there is no democracy(Akande, 2011). Satisfaction: I. • 7. Ancient Greece s Influence On Modern Day Fashion Ancient Greece is not just ancient history, there is a relation between ancient Greece to modern day in several different ways. Few relations are seen in fashion, architecture, and sculpting. To see ancient Greece still have a relation in the 21st century is remarkable. The hallmark of ancient Greek fashion was elaborate draping, not much detail and can also see images of Greek styles painted on pottery. You see in today s clothing the white one shoulder dress for women which is considered a formal dress, people relate it to the Greek Goddess dress . It flows over on one side, with usually a gold accent belt to go along with the dress. In addition, there are sandals that have been in fashion for few years now, called gladiators . The strapped... From paintings, to interior decorating, you see the use of ancient Greek patterns in the industry. For sculpting, ancient Greece influenced sculpting today by introducing detail to sculpting. They used marble, stone, limestone, and clay to create their sculptures. That has helped us create the base of the materials we use today for sculpting and even with architecture. In modern day architecture, we have almost simplified the way buildings look. Fourunately, ancient Greece architectural influence is still seen mostly at formal banquet halls today. The columns in entry ways, usually the capital is either doric or ionic. The interior well detailed with the use of marble as flooring, and patterns is still seen in modern day architecture. • 8. Myasthenia Gravis Research Paper Myasthenia gravis is considered an autoimmune disease because people who have it carry an antibody called polyclonal that destroys the acetylcholine receptors (Neurology, 2013). These antibodies destroy receptor sites in the neuromuscular junction faster than the body can produce them. Usually antibodies protect the body from foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses, but in the case of MG it attacks accessories that are required for muscle movement. In a study conducted by Jon Lindstrom and Seybold Marjorie (1998), it was concluded that out of 71 patients with MG, 87 percent of them had a greater amount of antibodies for destroying acetlycholine receptors than normal (Lindstrom Marjorie, 1998). They compared this amount to 175 patients... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, anti acetylcholinesterase agents like Mestinon are available; these stop the breakdown of acetlycholine allowing more to be created, letting more of it to be attached to receptors (Product Information, 2005). Mesttinon and similar medications have been around for almost fifty years, however they do cause nausea, muscle cramps and involuntary twitches. There is also corticosteroids like prednisone which basically which reduce acetylcholine receptor antibody (Treatment for MG, 2010). They are inexpensive but they may cause hypertension and diabetes (Treatment for MG, 2010). Another major approach to treating myasthenia gravis is removing the thymus gland. Between ten to fifteen percent of patients with MG have a tumor in this gland. The relationship between myasthenia gravis and the thymus gland is still a topic under major study and for the most part is unclear. However, some scientist say the thymus gland is what produces the acetylcholine receptor antibodies. Over the years, patients with MG have gotten this thymus gland removal done and have experienced improvement in muscle weakness. A study done by Giuseppe Marulli, Marco Schiavon, Egle Perissinotto and their colleagues (2012) looked at 100 patients with MG who went through the surgery to remove the thymus gland (Marulli et al., 2012). • 9. Feminism In Margaret Atwood s Alias Grace The book Alias Grace worked through the investigation into the trial of Grace Marks. Allegedly, Grace Marks, a humble house servant, worked with a fellow coworker to kill two of her employers. However, the mystery comes into play because Grace never admitted to the crimes. Instead, she pleaded innocenece and was convicated to a life in a penitentiary, but after over a decade in prison, a psychologist comes to try and solve the m,ysetery: did Grace Kill them, did she not kill them, was she acting in free will or under insdanity, were the murders promted by an affairthe public wanted answers to the questions they still asked. WHile the book chronicals the exploration of a mystery, the book s purpose isn t just to get to the bottom of things,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a feminist reader, I first saw Grace as a feminist woman: she stood up to her father by getting a job and staying with the job even though that meant leaving her family, and she worked all through her teen years, making her a woman in the workplace . She even worked when men didn t, as the book mentioned a boy her age Jamie didn t have as much responsibility as she did. However, Atwood created a conflict within Grace on the subject of sexuality by having Grace extremely anti sexuality for woman. Countless times throughout the book she looked down on female sex workers and woman who had affairs and even rejected the advcances of men because she did not believe it was valid for a woman to want sexual liberation. Especially on the subject of sex wokrers, she judged men for going to them with the equivilant of a slap on the wrist where as if she had her way, she d kick every prostiutute by the booty out of her town. Whenever she saw or thought of them, she d call them whores and discuss how she d rather kill herself than indulge in sex for money. I saw this as conflicting, because prostitutes are stiill women in the workplace and they support themselves rather than having men support them, and Grace does the same thing, just by housekeeping, not sex. Still, I d assume Grace would support fellow woman, but she outright attacks them. Atwood uses a murder mystery and a facet of the murder was it affair driven to touch on how feminism varies and there ;s a difference between men and woman in terms of sex that even strong omwan like Grace refuse to rectify. Atwood uses details of Grace s story to make a social crituque on how men and woman differ in terms of sexual liberation, and how it s still not see as equal for men to be whores and women to be whores. The majority of those who have a reasonably satisfactory understanding of the welfare state will agree that the definition entails; a nation whereby the government undertake appropriate action to ensure the provision of social goods and benefits. These welfare programs are usually provided at public expense with little or no cost to the recipient of the services. Policy prescriptions advanced by proponents of the welfare state emphasise securing a minimum standard of living for all of the population where no one is denied an essential service which might be available to others. This includes the production of social goods and services, the control of the business cycle and the manipulation of total output to allow for social costs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order for the welfare state to be successful at delivering equality among the population the preceding factors must first be achieved. In order for educational equality to be attempted, financial barriers separating those who can afford educational fees and those who cannot must be minimised or removed. If everyone is entitled to the same opportunity of education then, equality can be sought after. This was apparent during the period 1974 1979, where it was recognised that a redistribution of educational resources towards girls, women and minority groups as well as towards the working class is required. Thus, aiming at giving everyone the same opportunity for an education. Contained in the 1998 Human Rights Act is an authoritative statement which is essential for the basis of equality. It states that `no person shall be denied the right to education , although a rather basic statement, it provides the basis for equality of opportunity which is essential since education is an investment on behalf of the wider society. The 1944 Education Act contained the idea of delivering educational opportunity to all those that may be concerned. Thus, the movement towards equality was evident and ever becoming a reality. In its implementation, equality was seen as the removal of financial barriers to different types of secondary education to permit selection based on ability and aptitude. • 11. The Effects Of Global Warming On Health, Spatial... Reptilian populations are under constant scrutiny from the environment. The reptilian populations rely on close to equal sex ratios for their species to thrive. With the changing climate more and more reptiles are at risk. This is because global warming may influence health, spatial distribution, growth, and reproductive output (Simoncini 2014). Along with that, the change in temperature will affect the incubation temperature, embryonic development, sexratios, and hatchling success (Simoncini 2014). Not only that, but global change may result in a stronger sex ratiobias, which could lead to extinction of TSD reptiles (Hulin et al 2009). An all maleor all female biased population adds more stress on a population to survive. Scientists are concerned populations will dwindle or possibly become extinct if reptilian species cannot adapt to climate change. Global warming will result in increased atmospheric temperature in a short time scale and may modify several life history traits in populations (Hulin et al 2009). Reptilian species may not have the time to physically adapt to the environmental changes. Species could overcome climate change by modification of nesting phenology or behavior (Hulin et al 2009). Some temperature dependent sex determined species may be able to compensate by nesting in cooler areas (Refsnider 2012). Not only will temperature change affect sex ratios, but it can alter offspring phenotypes and performance. A study was conducted to observe the effect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Gender Roles And Gender Stereotypes In The Media Gender roles influence every characteristic and aspect of our life, from how we feel about ourselves to the degree of our contribution in social life. From a ripe young age, children become exposed to this type of gender bias right away, which can negatively affect and shape their whole outlook on life. Consequently, as these young boys and girls mature both physically and emotionally and move on into adulthood, they are, in essence, shoved into a world that impacts their attitudes and behaviors towards genderroles and stereotypes. These specific attitudes and behaviors first cultivate in the private doors of their parent s house. Afterwards, these same biases become reinforced by the child s peers, school experience (education), television viewing, and, of course, advertisements in the realm of print and television media. From the looks of it, it is near impossible, for children to not become subject to some degree of gender bias at an early age. As a child grows and develops, the stereotypes follow them into the next phases of their lives (i.e. adolescence) and then on into adulthood. Not only are these gender stereotypes destroying girls, they are also killing boys. The components of this essay will attempt to illustrate how advertising in print and television helps to perpetuate gender stereotypes in our world. Along with that, one must ask the question of how much harm these negative biases in gender roles truly affects the minds of men, women, and young children. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have chosen to present this speech by looking at the film studied in class, and a film of my choice and how the difference in context has changed in the tie of these two films. They both open with a suspenseful mood. Conflict is present in the both of the films, heroes and villains present. Moving onto gender roles and ideas, these characteristics in genders are needed in any sort of story to suit the values and attitudes of the people of that time. Gender stereotypes are a major piece to the puzzle of a film. Women are generally seen as less dominant, pushovers, the cares of everyone and that they have no independence. Whist men are seen as the more dominant, masculine, heroes, brave and courageous. This is across all genres of movies, the girl is the damsel in distress and the boy ends up saving her at the end of it. These stereotypes were strongly enforced when in The Searchers the Reverend comes to the family s house to announce that the father is setting off with him to battle the Indians. The men are looked after, they have their coats taken off them and they are served food and drink, whereas the woman re running around after them ensure they re satisfied, when the men set off the women collect for them there hat and give them to the men leaving. The human body alone undergoes many different processes per second, and yet, is able to do so almost without error. It s almost undeniable that there is design in nature, however, many question whether or not this design just came about or if it implies that a designer exists. Science and religion attempt to explain design in nature in a much different context, and seem to be in conflict with one another about the existence of a designer. Arguably, I believe that there is a loophole, in which both science and religion can be integrated as one, and can function together to explain design in nature. Beginning with the Big Bang, and Creationism to Evolution, and design in nature, religion provides science with answers and vice versa. God is not the sole worker in nature, nor is he the supreme power, but he allows for natural processes to take their course. Academics from a vast range of fields can all agree that there is design in nature, meaning that nature doesn t consist of random things thrown together without a purpose. Instead, almost everything in nature is intricately designed to achieve certain tasks. Design in nature can be compared to a jigsaw puzzle in the sense that each piece is designed to fit another piece, and they match up perfectly. For example, when our DNA goes through the replication process, an error is made at approximately every one hundred thousand nucleotide. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Importance Of Weather In Literature Angelina Blackwell AP Literature and Composition Mrs. Smith 9/20/17 Weather can influence many things in literature. It can influence the mood, plot, characters, setting. Foster makes it very clear to us that an author will never put weather into a story with no reasoning behind it. Weather is not just simply a setting in literature. The author begins the chapter It s More Than Just Rain or Snow by explaining what mood the quote It was a dark and stormy night creates. He explains how weather is never placed in a story for no reason. Weather is a factor used to create a mood in the passage. A sunny day with no clouds in sight... will create a happy mood while the reader could be imagining themselves in the story being outside on a beautiful clear day with the sunshine hitting them just right. That could put anyone in a cheerful mood, right? If the author started a story with The rain was beating down on the roof as I realized it had been my first night without him... . Now obviously if the character had just lost someone they would be sad but adding rain to the scene adds the effect of sadness and allows the reader jump in the book to feel what the character is feeling. When meeting characters in the beginning of novels, the author can add how they perceive weather to let the readers get a feel for how observing they are. If the character pays no mind to the weather the reader may see that had acted as ignorant. Chapter 10 elaborates on how weather can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The young couple had been were not used to the behaviour of their new neighbours and the limited space between their houses as they had previously lived in the expansive outer suburbs with neighbours that were seldom seen and never heard . The repetition of the seasons; autumn merged into winter and by late summer symbolises the length of time the couple take to become familiar with their new neighbours and accept and embrace their cultural differences. When the neighbours found out the young woman was pregnant, they showered her with compliments and presents making her feel flattered, claustrophobic, grateful, peeved . Through this oxymoron, the hormonal impact of the pregnancy is illuminated and her previous, solely negative attitudes have altered towards her new neighbours as these acts of kindness have overwhelmed her and she sees they re just trying to help. The moonhas no real atmosphere so there can be no weatherly erosion, which is an issue some planets have. The atmosphere is basically comprised of gases that surround the moon. The moon has an extremely low gravity and cools more rapidly than some planets. It does not have any plate tectonics. The surface of the moon has been created from years of impact by craters and volcanoes. The moon is often comprised of the crust, the mantle, and the core. The moon is best observed through telescope observations, however; the moon has always been subject to lunar landings, lunar samples, and orbiting space crafts.
