Essay about Meaning and Identity in Public Art
Meaning and Identity in Public Art While visiting the Capitol Square, I felt like I had stepped back
into an ancient
Greek culture. From the colossal pillars supporting the building to the bronze statues of
Greek goddesses among our war heroes it is easy to mistake the Capitol building for a
Greek temple. I want to share with you what the architecture communicated to me, what the subject of
the art was that I observed, and why the building was placed where it now stands. Anyone who
possesses basic knowledge about ancient Greece could surely see the similarities between Greek
temples and the Capitol building. There is even an inscription on the Capitol building stating it is a
Greek revival structure . The building has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What all this detail says to me is that this is a place where powerful people work and where many
important functions of the city take place. I gain a sense that whoever is employed here has a great
deal of wealth, be it in knowledge or money, and tremendous authority. The Greeks saw their rulers as
being next to godliness, and in a way, the people who work here are our rulers. The subject of the art
that I observed had a theme of peace, war, nobility, and discovery. The first statue I saw was a large
monument made of bronze and marble. The monument featured Ulysses S. Grant, James A. Garfield,
Phillip Sheridan, William T.
Sherman, Rutherford B. Hayes, Salmon Chase, and Edwin Stanton standing under a
Greek goddess (who resembles Ceres because she is surrounded by bushels of wheat and grains) with
a quote under her that says These are my jewels . These men were by far the greatest men to come
from Ohio and just like the Greeks who cast their heroes in bronze, so have we cast our heroes for all
to see in bronze at the Capitol. The next monument I saw was a huge angel in bronze that included an
inscription about peace.
Then, on another side of the building, there are two monuments to the soldiers that went to fight at
Iwo Jima. These walls contain etched letters from various soldiers, some of them are happy letters
while others are very sad. There seemed to be many monuments to war than anything else. The
monuments about war

To His Coy Mistress Alliteration
Through use of tone, situation and setting, and specific word choice, the authors create a scene that is
easily recognizable and relatable. In the poem To His Coy Mistress the speaker attempts to seduce a
hesitant woman. The speaker s attempts to persuade the mistress can be identified with the change of
tone and pace in the poem. For example, Had we but world enough, and time, This coyness, lady, were
no crime. (1 2) in these two opening lines, Marvell uses punctuation in order to slow down the pace of
the poem without interfering with his consistent use of iambic. This reflects the speakers message of
how pointless time is. This is followed by the repeated use of open vowel sounds, such as would,
which, way, and our in the next two lines to make the reader sound wistful as if they are sighing We
would sit down, and think which way To walk, and pass our long love s day (3 4). To further woo the
mistress, alliteration is also used to great effect, in line 1 we and world , in line 2 coyness and crime ,
in Line 3 we would and which way and finally in line 4 long love s . In the next sixteen lines, it can be
sensed the speaker has upon his lips a slow smirk forming, that coincides ... Show more content on

In poem, The Flea , the author demonstrates his ability to take a unique metaphor and adapt it to
strange circumstance. He begins the poem by asking the young woman to Mark this flea (1) which has
bitten and sucked blood from both himself and her. He points out that she has denied him something
which the flea has not refrained from enjoying: the intimate union of their bodily fluids. This regular
occurrence, he argues, cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead (5 6); if this tiny
commingling of the two people is not wrong, then how can a greater commingling be considered evil
or undesirable? The author has a similar Carpe Diem tone as the previous poem when attempting to

Allegory Of A Cave
In Allegory of a Cave , Plato has the reader imagine a cave in which people are confined to only being
able to look at the walls. In this cave, they can see shadows which are the extent to their knowledge of
the outside world. He explains how to them this is their world and what they see and hear is all that
they can know, so he then explains how if one man were to escape he will be able to truly see how
great the world actually is. Moreover, as he returns to the cave everyone else calls him a liar
convinced that their reality is real. This allegory shows how there is a battle between what is truth and
what is fantasy and one has to be able to learn how to decipher between them. When considering

What Is The Theme In Death Of A Salesman
In 1949 Arthur Miller wrote a play Death of a Salesman , it has transformed the author into a national
sensation by winning the Pulitzer Prize. Death of a Salesman as many critics suggested was the first
best written American tragedy, leading to Miller gaining popularity as a man who understood and
brought to life the deep core of reality in United States. This novel describes tragic and most
importantly painful conflicts between family members and covers larger human values as the motifs of
the happening which American citizens might relate to. The themes, motifs and symbols are the key to
noticing understanding the deeper context of the story. Themes Firstly, the fundamental theme of
Death of a Salesman is the blind faith in the American dream. It is an American tradition in which
Willy believes wholeheartedly. By living the American Dream ... Show more content on

At the point when Biff leaves Willy s aspirations for him, Willy takes this dismissal as a personal
attack. Willy, all things considered, is a sales representative, and Biff s inner self pulverizing rebuke
eventually reflects Willy s failure to offer him on the American Dream the one thing in which Willy
himself believes dependably. He supposes that the betrayal of Biff is led from him discovering The
Woman s and Willy s romance, cheating on Linda and betraying her love. Motif Areas like the
American West, African Jungle and Alaska represent the capability of instinct to Biff and Willy. Willy
s father discovered success in Alaska and his sibling, Ben, became rich in Africa. These fascinating
areas, particularly when contrasted with Willy s commonplace Brooklyn neighborhood, solidify how
Willy s fixation on the commercial world of the city has caught him in a disagreeable reality. While
Alaska and the African wilderness symbolize Willy s failure, the American West, then again,
symbolizes Biff s potential.

French Republican Calendar Dbq
The French Republican Calendar
During the French Revolution the National Convention started defacing the French Catholic Church
with the goal to decrease its influence and power. In this effort in doing so, the National Convention
made a new calendar to replace the Gregorian calendar in which they implemented their own ideas
and changed the days, months, and holidays. The French Republican calendar lasted for 12 years and
much opinions and reactions were formed during, and after its creation. Gilbert Rommes argument to
as of why the Gregorian calendar should be replaced was that the calendar was made by ignorant
people(Document 1). His reasoning was that they shouldn t be living off a calendar that was created
by ignorance, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abbe Sieyes believed that the time wasn t right to make any changes to the Gregorian calendar. For it
would only create, not only a division between the Catholic Church, but their country neighbors and
might result in a wall between them that they won t be able to solve(Document 2). When the
Gregorian calendar made its return in 1806 it was appreciated and hated(Document 7). For Napoleon,
the French Republican calendar was a sad and weak decade in which festivals weren t even dedicated
to the to the charity. In Doc 4, it shows how the peasants were unhappy about the new calendar for it
increase their labor days to nine days. This was hard on them because they had to work for nine days
straight and even the best of them couldn t handle it. Jacobins have damaged the church made the first
Pope of deism and now the calendar was just an act of absolutism. For Pierre Joseph Denis, it was
clear that the Jacobins have gone to far as to making a new calendar, such act was an exercise of
absolute power(Doc 5). As for Document, it points out how the festivals were offensive and had

A church whose pastor and others in leadership have failed to put in place a proactive plan for
discipleship for Believers is usually a growing church growing stagnant, growing cold, growing
spiritually immature Christians, and eventually, many growing closed. Patte said, There is much at

The parent or mature Christian is fully engaged in the mission of Jesus Christ. People who are in this
stage are those who are witnessing and discipling others, in the same manner that he or she was
discipled. They are looking out for the immature Christians, and taking them under their wing to
encourage, listen to, and strengthen them to maturity in Christ.
The four spheres of relationships are as follows; the relationship with God, the relationship with
family or home, relationship with church and believers, and the relationship with the world. The most
important sphere is the relationship with God. This sphere or the relationship with God needs to be
vibrant, fresh, and personal. All of the other spheres will work or be in line when our relationship with
God is in line.
The sphere dealing with the home can be taxing at times. The relationship here is much easier when
everyone in the home are Christians. However, if dad is a Christian and mom is not, or vice versa, or
perhaps a child or children surrender their lives to the calling of Jesus, and mom and dad have not,
family relationships and harmony in the home can become much more difficult. Paul writes about how
the relationships in the home should be. He talks about how each person should deal with the other.
The book of Genesis tells us the story of Noah and how he was a successful father and husband. He
was able to reach his entire family for God. It was his family that was saved

Intergalactic Background Checks
Why we will never accept Intergalactic Background Checks
It never fails, whenever there is a serious crisis involving guns, the Socialist Left wastes no time in
trotting out their favourite hobby horse of Background Checks Intergalactic and otherwise.
So why do they obsess over this issue that won t solve the problem anyway? Why is this so important
to them and a danger to our civil rights? This will be an examination of the underlying elements of this
issue and why gun owners will never accept government control over their private property.
The debate over the 1st and 2nd amendments and the rest of the Constitution is really about who
maintains the constraints on the government. If the people hold these controls, the government ...

The best they can offer is the much abused commerce clause and even that falls short given that refers
to commerce between the states, not between neighbours and friends.
This is a very important, but rarely discussed issue that goes to the central tenets of liberty.
Our civil rights are based upon the control of private property. In fact one could argue that it s not
even private property if it s under government edict. While some would like to cite the adage that
possession is nine tenths of the law the reality is that ownership is vested in the entity that controls an
item s storage, use and transference. If the government controls those parameters it is the true owner
of that property with the people being it s temporary possessors.
There are those desirous of control who want people to think that firearms as somehow different than
other items of property, simply because those items are a constraint over governmental power. While
lorries and other motorised vehicles can be deadly, they don t serve as a constraint on tyranny so they
are no concern of the Left. The plain fact is that firearms aren t any different than other types of
property. As it is with the government, the slippery slope will see them try to control other types of
property if it can get people to accept it with firearms.

Greasy Lake Analysis
Greasy Lake Story Analysis
Greasy Lake was published in 1985 along with other stories from the author, T. Corahessan Boyle.
The story is a gripping tale of three teen boys living on the edge , in which the author presents himself
and his friends as a group of dangerous individuals. One would think that the narrator has truth in his
words, but all events in the story point to the contrary. T. Corahessan Boyle, or T. C. Boyle for short, is
an unreliable narrator. The truth of this story is not in the text, but in the underlying meanings and
subliminal nuances. This hidden reality really helps the reader make a direct judgment of the
characters. After reading between the lines, one quickly finds out who the characters are, but more ...

The unknown aggressor starts to engage in hand on hand combat with the three. The narrator reminds
us that Digby, a friend of the narrator s, has just finished a course in martial arts (that his parents
probably helped pay). Digby stands in position with wrists cocked and ankles bent in a swan like
stance ready for the assailant, but sadly for the young ninja, the narrator tells us, The greasy character
was not impressed. He merely backed off a step, his face like a Toltec mask, and laid Digby out with a
single whistling roundhouse blow (Boyle 166) . . . Tough guys do not get knocked out in one blow,
they stand and fight.
When all hope for the young rebels seems to be lost, the narrator remembers an old tire iron he has
hidden under his seat. He recalls the last time he was in a fight, which was too long ago to even
matter. I came at him and brought the tire iron down on his ear (Boyle 166). Primal instinct kicked in
and the greaser from the 57 Chevy was out cold. It was far from a deserving victory as the one man
put up a hell of a fight. The greaser nearly nailed a hat trick if it wasn t for the narrator s cheap
knockout. In reality only cowards fight with metal pipes, real bad dudes fight with their fists.
Now if the unworthy victory was not enough for the pathetic trio, they proceeded to attack the greaser
s innocent girlfriend. Weak and helpless, no shoes or pants, they had her pinned against the car half
naked. Just before a horrific

Introduction: Technology What Is It? General term for the processes by which human beings fashion
tools and Machines to increase their control and understanding of the material environment. The Term
is derived from the Greek words tekhne, which refers to an art or craft, and logia, Meaning an area of

The special cellular exchange, through computer control, selects the antenna closest to the telephone

inventions that where once practical remain practical. one example are the invention of pagers.
although these pagers are still currently used in our society they in my own opinion have out lived

expensive and more portable than a cellphone. but now cellphones are cheaper and come in sizes that
are almost as small as a pager. so these pagers have out lived there use and are now impractical to use

The Suspense And Surprise In And Then There Were None
The suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None
Suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None Every well written murder mystery does not
have fixed features because the writers of detective story always want to give their readers a unique
feeling, but suspense and surprise are essential and indispensable. (Alewyn 184) In Agatha Christie s
And Then There Were None, she fully combines suspense and surprise through the omniscient point of
view and poignant plot. Therefore, And Then There Were None is a well written murder mystery. The
omniscient point of view means a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows the thoughts and
feelings of all of the characters in the story. (Abrams 233) Plot is the series of events that form the
story of a novel, play, and film (Abrams 294). I will show the suspense and surprise through the
analysis of narrative, rising action, climax, and falling action as well as use specific textual evidence
from this fiction novel to prove it. In And Then There Were None, The writer uses the omniscient

Jack the ripper? Or jill the ripper?
Inspector Abberline who was on the jack the ripper case, thought that it was a woman who had done it
the entire time. The theory started after one of the murders of a woman named Mary Kelly. Mary
Kelly was murdered between the hours of 2 and 3 in the morning. Yet Caroline Maxwell had claimed
to see her twice that morning after the time she was said to have passed. She claimed to have seen
Mary Kelly at around 8am looking sick. And again around an hour later talking to some man outside
the pub house. It would be very easy for a midwife to pull of being jack the ripper. It was not unusual
for a midwife to be walking around all hours of the night, let alone have blood on her clothes because
people would have just thought it was from her working. And she could walk in broad daylight with
no one questioning her because everyone was looking for a man. And not a woman.

Here is some of the background on Mary Pearcey and to why they picked her as a suspect at the time

Globalization Vs Neorealism
Globalization is the intensification of networks of interdependence at multi continental distances. It is
the idea that actions in one area of the world affect different areas in the world. The argument, though,
is whether or not globalization is occurring, if countries are dependent or interdependent. When
turning on the news today, one might see more on whats going on in Russia or North Korea than in
their own backyard. This is an example of Globalization. By examining it through Neorealism, one
can better understand its prevalence. Neorealism primarily centers on the importance of the structure
of the international system when explaining the events in international politics. It states that a state s
position in the international system determines its actions and behavior. The father of Neorealism,
Waltz, stated in the Journal of Politics and Society that, different international relation structure permit
and cause the units of a system to change their behavior and produce different outcomes (Waltz p.4).
If that be the case, then Globalization is at the center of politics. The theory of Neorealism itself
defends the argument that Globalization is occurring; one state s capabilities directly affects another s
actions. To better understand this one must accept that the international system s ordering principle is
anarchy, the idea that there is no higher authority or world government. This creates an almost self
help kind of atmosphere for all of the world

Native American Anthropology Research Paper
Archaeologists destroy the sites they excavate. This has been one of the major criticisms that has been
lobbed at archaeologists for years. When archaeologists excavate a site, the common practice of
digging and removing artifacts is sometimes frowned upon by the communities in the surrounding
area. In the 1800 s people s views of indigenous communities where reprehensible to say the lest
American Indians were held to be inferior to civilized men in order to rationalize the seizure of Indian
lands, and that eventually, racial myths grew to supplant any other myths about Indians as a
justification for waging war on Indians and violating their treaties. (Watkins 2000: 6) This trend
continued into the 1900 s, but the degradation that indigenous and to some extant non indigenous
communities have experienced is still present to this day, but it is not as prevalent as it was in the past.

Lululemon Athletica Inc. Case Analysis
This paper commences by defining the problems that were faced by Lululemon Athletica Inc in 2013.
After, the author explores the causes of the issues that the company was experiencing and the effects
that they had on Lululemon Athletica Inc. The next step is to look at ways in which the issues could
have been addressed both for the short term and long term. When all is said and done, the audience
will fully appreciate why Lululemon Athletica Inc should revert to its fundamentals that is, to
concentrate on the needs of the consumer .
Difinition of Problems
In 2013, Lululemon Athletica Inc found it succession of problems that damaged the company s
reputation, these included the following: (i) quality control was top on the list as there was a recall of
17 per cent of the company s Luon pants, (ii) lawsuits issues with investors, (iii) withdrawal from the
Canadian stock exchange, and (iv) bad publicity (Huang, 2014, p.5 7).
Explanation of Problems
In relation to the withdrawal of the Luon pants from the market in March 2013, this was owing that
the pants were viewed as being over transparent by many (thehollywoodgossip, 2013). In May 2013,
the lawsuits that were filed against the company regarding the renuneration increase of top managers
and the accusation about hiding information concerning defected goods in order to rise stock prices
were cause for concern (Huang, 2014, p.7). This is because the lawsuits were filed by investors
(Huang, 2014, p.7). In June 2013,

Power Of Education In The Great Gatsby
October 5, 2014
For centuries, the world has favored those who are in possession of a higher intelligence. Historically,
ruling classes were composed of educated nobles or trained workers, the few who had been able to
receive an education. Education in developed countries is often included in the basic rights to which
every human should have access. Its importance has been the focal point of countless movements, all
petitioning for the opportunity of schooling for lower class citizens. The United States of America,
though it has experienced significant changes in regards to the literacy of all citizens, did not do so
without difficulty. The two most notable groups to fight for the right to equal education had to struggle
for years to obtain their goals. African Americans had little to no rights until the Emancipation
Proclamation in 1865, and even then, only males were allowed to read and write. Women did not
begin attending college in equal numbers to men until as recently as 1980. The strong correlation
between power and education makes possessing a sound education a valuable asset and highly sought
after. Education s role in society is a prevalent theme throughout Scott F. Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby. Tom s supremacy through education and wealth contrasts heavily with Gatsby s lack of
knowledge, creating tension within the novel between the two opposing men.

Effects of Surfactants on Suppository Absorption Essay...
Suppositories are the frequently used dosage forms prescribed through rectal route. However,
suppositories have the limitation of prolonged onset of action which can be attributed to poor drug
release properties of suppository base. Surfactants can increase the drug release to aid absorption by
reducing the interfacial tension between rectal fluids and the suppository base. The objective of this
study was to examine the effect of different concentrations of sodium lauryl sulphate and tween 80 on

Drugs are incorporated into suitable suppository bases which may be fatty base or water soluble base
to form suppositories into suitable shape to be inserted into the rectum. [3] In the rectum, the
suppositories release their drug content by melting at body temperature or dissolving in rectal mucous
secretion to be diffused across the rectal epithelium into the mucosa that is abundantly vascularised.
[4] The drug can be absorbed through the middle and inferior rectal veins into systemic circulation by
passing the hepatic first pass metabolism, which gives the rectal route of administration an extra
advantage. Paracetamol is a well known drug for its analgesic and antipyretic activity. It is available in
oral, rectal and intravenous dosage form. The most common route of administration is the oral route as
paracetamol is being absorbed well through this route with the bioavailability of 63 89%. [5] The
absorption half life through oral route is 4.5 minutes with no lag time. [6] The rectal form of
paracetamol is mainly intended to be used in children as they have difficulty in swallowing oral
medication. The bioavailability of paracetamol administered through rectal route is in the range of 24
98%, depending on the suppositories physical composition with 35 minutes of mean absorption half

My Autobiography Of Earth
Autobiography of Earth Nature s beauty is a work of art. Its compelling nature is being destroyed day
after day by humankind. We need to learn to protect what we take for granted every day and what s
left of our earth. Although, our earth is continuously losing its picturesque beauty it is no longer full of
lush grass, crystal clear oceans, and an abundance of animals. However, my connection towards the
earth is powerful because I wish to cherish its beauty, live in faith that the earth will remain, and to
remember the connections I made with the earth. Earth will not destroy itself but, humankind will.
Thus, making the ending of humankind and nature inevitable unless we take actions now. Naturally,
we are expected to preserve earth s beauty and its ability to help humankind survive. Personally, it
troubles me that our own species will not take the time to secure our future generations with the
natural resources we are given every day. Our earth provides us with water, oxygen, food, and so
much more but instead we have chosen to slowly destroy it by oil leakage, littering causing climate
change, and wars amongst one another. To my family, the earth is precious to everything that we do.
However, we are not models of what it means to fully take part in taking care of the environment. We
only recycle bags and plastic, have minimal trash, and pick up other people s trash when we can. I
want to cherish the glorifying moments of seeing blue whales, killer whales, and coral

Qing Dao Short Story
Once upon a time, a kind old fisherman lived with his daughter on an island. One day, the Dragon
King kidnapped the daughter and brought her to his palace. The poor fisherman stood by the ocean
calling out to the sea day by day, for years. It made the Dragon King angry so he cast a spell on him
causing the man to slowly turn into a rock. After the daughter heard what the Dragon King had done,
she escaped the palace and ran towards her father who has now turned into a rock. The ocean breeze
blew the flowers in her hair onto the island, making plants grow. When she is near Lao mountain, the
Dragon King put a spell on her too and turned her into a giant reef. From that day on, the father and
daughter can only look at each other from across the sea, unable to meet. This is the story of Old Man
Rock, one of the unique and beautiful sites in Qing Dao. On the east side of China is a small peninsula
called Qing Dao. Qing Dao is a beautiful place to live in because it has wonderful beaches, an Under
Sea World aquarium, and possesses many parks. First of all, Qing Dao has wonderful beaches. The
sand on the beaches glitter under the sun making it look golden and is very soft. People take wedding
photos there because the scenery is very beautiful and some people ride on horses. The weather is mild
which means that it isn t hot in the summer and cold in winter. When walking deeper into the ocean,
there are corals of orange, red, yellow, and green. Also, there are booths that sell stuff

Is Diabetes Mellitus ( Dm ) Is A Serious Public Health...
Introduction : Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a serious public health problem in the world that has an
adverse effect on the quality of life of several people (Al Sarayra Khalidi, 2012; Azinge, 2013)1. It is
highlighted for morbidity and mortality (Khattab, Khader, Al Khawaldeh, Ajlouni, 2010; Sagar,
2011)2. World Health Organization (WHO) defines DM as metabolic disorder characterized by
chronic hyperglycemia with disturbances of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism that results
from disturbances in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Diabetes is associated with reduced life
expectancy; the significant morbidity associated with diabetes arises from micro vascular
complications, increased risk of macro vascular complications (like ischemic heart disease, stroke, and
peripheral vascular disease), and diminished quality of life3 (WHO, 1999).
Jordan is one of the 19 nations of the International diabetes federation MENA region , 415 million
individuals have diabetes in the world and more than 35.4 million individuals in the MENA Region;

How Digestive System Work Together
The digestive system helps the humans break down food and turn it into nutrients. The digestive
system is made up of a lot of different organs such as salivary glands, pharynx, mouth, esophagus,
stomach, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, and pancreas. Salivary glands produce
saliva, which keeps the mouth and other parts of the digestive system moist. The pharynx role in the
digestive system is to connect the nose and mouth to the esophagus. The mouth is used for putting in
food and also eating the food. The esophagus has only one function and it is to carry food, saliva, and
liquid. The stomach receives the food from the esophagus and secretes acid and enzymes that digest
food. The liver regulates the composition of blood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of I Love Lucy
The I Love Lucy Show was broadcasted in the 1950s based in New York, it was a family based show
that featured a loving, yet comical couple Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, later in the series they became
parents to Ricky Ricardo Jr. The show also included Fred and Ethel Mertz who were the neighbors,
friends and also the landlords of Lucy and Ricardo. The couple joined them on different episodes as
supporting characters adding to the storyline.
I Love Lucy was the first influential and also successful sitcom. Unlike many shows of that era, it
involved a biracial couple, including a Caucasian woman and a Cuban man. Which in that timeframe

The environment was different on the shows also, although Lucy showed a good environment where

details, with small neighborhood problems. Andy really never had any serious crimes to solve. He had
to deal with with angry citizens, neighborhood issues, morally right situations, or small conflicts
nothing too serious.

• Explain How The Device And Procedures Support The Body...
How does the device and procedures support the role of the body systems?
The artificial heart supports the body just like a normal heart would, pumping blood around the body.
The artificial hearts are used when the original heart is damaged and needs time to recover. The
artificial heart can replace the function of the person s original heart for either a short period of time
while a donor heart is being sort or for the duration of the person s life. Why is the device needed?
The device is needed when a person s heart fails to operate correctly. A person needing an artificial
heart would be extremely ill that is they would not be able to function like an everyday person. E.g.
walking.
People, who receive artificial hearts, fall into two categories being bridge or destination. The bridge
group, are those people who would most likely die waiting for a suitable donor heart. The destination
group are those patients who s body would not suit a donor heart transplant but would benefit in
additional years lived from an artificial heart.

There are two types of artificial hearts, the first being a pump that is connected to the patient s
circulatory system; it maintains life when the patient s heart is stopped for the surgeons to be able to
operate on the heart. The second type is a self contained mechanical heart that sits completely in the
patient s chest cavity. This second type of heart is known as a VAD pump which pumps blood from
the left ventricle to the aorta. Most mechanical hearts use a centrifugal pump, which is quieter, uses
less energy and lasts longer than the piston type mechanical hearts. The centrifugal pump produces a
constant flow of blood around the body; therefore the patient will not have a

Fracking or hydraulic fracturing is a mine stimulation technique that is taking the country by storm. It
is a multi billion dollar industry and in some parts of the country there are so many wells clustered
together that they can be seen from space. The commodity being mined is natural gas. Natural gas has
earned itself many new names depending on who is asked. According to big gas companies like
Haiburton, it s America s solution to the energy crisis and a fuel for the 21st century. They claim this
current period of economic and energy prosperity is due to increased fracking. However, this

for one well in Pennsylvania takes about 4.4 million gallons of water. 63% of which is from lakes and
streams and another 20% is bought from local water utilities. That is enough water to fill six Olympic

chemicals that it can never be used again and must be pumped into class II injection wells or taken to

Analysis Of Care Of The Soul By Thomas Moore
In Thomas Moore s Care of The Soul, he explains the importance of your soul. He believes that when
your soul is neglected, it does not go away instead it appears in ways of addictions, obsessions and
possibly violence. Moore discusses modern psychology and his belief that you cannot simply cure, fix,
or change (xv). You must try and figure out your symptoms in order to know what your soul craves. I
agree with Moore in that the only way to cope with life problems is to look deeply into ones soul.
Moore explains that care of the soul is not primarily a method of problem solving. Its goal is not to
make life problem free, but to give ordinary life the depth and value that comes with soulfulness (4).
You could never make life problem free. People deal with problems on a daily basis, whether it s
learning to deal with the death of a loved one or relationship problems. You cannot assume that if you

We do this by providing them with an education but when you really think about, we are pushing the
children away from childhood. We shouldn t be spending great sums of money on electronic
entertainment centers that don t speak to the soul s need for child like direct pleasure (53). I agree that,
child wisdom is different from adult wisdom, but it has its place (53). Children need to be appreciated
and given the time to be a child. They need to be able to play, explore, and wonder, as it is imperative,
to the care of their soul. I also think there is some truth in that we tend to push children into adulthood
because we ourselves long to be childish. We no longer can play, be silly or stay up and sleep all day
because we are adults and it is frowned upon. We must be mature and go to bed at a reasonable time
because we must work and provide for our family. I know that my soul longs for child inside of

Comparing Horror In Psycho And Stephen King s The Shining
Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho and Stephen King s The Shining both explore the theme of horror through
the use of the key techniques; characterisation, motifs, symbols and setting. The texts are about
psychologically disturbed protagonists and the events that they are involved in. Psycho was published
in 1960 whereas the Shining was published in 1977, both timeworn novels. In Psycho, Bates is unable
to contain the guilt of murdering is mother and therefore, murders those who he feels sexually

powers allow him to see the hotel s horrific past, as the snowstorm leads to the hotel becoming
isolated, supernatural forces influence Jack s sanity and lead his family in great danger. The Shining s
Jack Torrance and Psycho s Norman Bates are psychotic murders who through different circumstances

Violence in Boxing and Similar Sports
In 1962, Norman Cousins wrote an essay about the dangers that came with sport of boxing called Who
Killed Benny Paret? . His essay focused on a match that resulted in the death of a boxer named Benny
Paret. The Investigations on Paret s death reflected on many aspects, such as the role of the referee
who did not act in time to stop the fight, the doctor s examinations if he was really fit, the opponent
who did not stop when Paret did not respond to his punches, and Paret s manager and boxing
authorities who were criticized because they gave Paret clearance to fight even though they knew that
he had two previous fights in less than six months. Cousins on the other hand, had a different
argument, he blamed Paret s death on the people that attended boxing matches because he agreed with
Mark Jacobs, the prize fight promoter, that people just came to see a man got hurt or knocked out. For
Cousins, boxing was just a show of violence and the purpose of the sport was only to entertain the
crowd. And as I looked at the growth of violence sports, which had been growing rapidly over the
years, I agreed with Cousins argument that people just saw violence sports as an entertainment. One of
the reasons I agreed with Cousins was because people were seeking for an excitement in their lives,
and one of many sources to find that excitement was through watching violence sports. When people
were watching violence sports, it pumped up their adrenaline, it also provided them with opportunities

The Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self
In this modern day world, people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think they
mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are identity,

means is how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that are
constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self,
which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the family struggle with

The nature of the good life from a philosophical point of view is not as simple as the typical picture
that may pop into one s head of lying on a beach in a tropical paradise sipping frozen daiquiris.
Depending on which type of ethical model you use will change the picture. For Thucydides his view
point seems to be that Might is Right versus Plato s Might for Right as well as a search for what is
right. Another way to differentiate the two would be to say one is for what I have the right to do and
that makes it right verses what is the right thing to do and what makes it right.

He is clearly stating that one plus one is two. If we (the Athenians) attack, the Spartans are not going
to help you because based on our observations they are more about serving their interests than yours
(the Melians). Thucydides, further illustrates this by proving the Athenians were right in their
calculations of the situation. His story is not only empirical, they are a direct attack on normative
ethics. The Melians believed they knew what was right and that the Spartans would come to their aid
because they believed it was the right thing to do. But they were proven to be incorrect, supporting the
idea that this story was not only empirical but a disagreement in the validity of normative ethics.
Plato however I believe would have been on the side of the Melians in Thucydides story. Interestingly
enough Socrates would have died just as he does in his own story The Apology of placing all his
beliefs in normative ethics. In Plato s The Apology he begins his tale with a blatant normative
argument. He states that the Athenians assigned Socrates a post during a battle and that he stood his
ground and did not leave because he believed it was the right thing to do. By definition normative
ethics are ethics based on values. There is no way to measure values. Unlike a math equation there is
no right or wrong answer. What I believe to be true and just is not the same for all others. Plato goes

Provide at least three (3) reasons for believing in the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information.
Sensory perception is the foundation of scientific knowledge and philosophical reality. This is one of
the reasons for believing the accuracy of sensory information. Science depends on the standardization
of sensory input and instruments. Human sensory organs are generally the same across the species,
with few exceptions. One of the reasons why sensory information is accurate is that all human beings
can basically agree on data such as the sky being blue, satin being soft, and sugar being sweet. The
fact that sensory information provides a common ground for people being human is one of the reasons
for believing in the accuracy of sensory information. Another reason for believing the accuracy of
sensory data is that it can in many cases be measurable and predictable. This is why sensory
information provides the foundation for empirical measurements and scientific data.
However, there are also reasons for believing the inaccuracy of sensory information. Reasons include
the variability of the human experience, including situational variables like sleep deprivation, hunger,
or emotional state of being. Sensory information will be distorted when a person is too tired, angry, or
hungry. Another reason to doubt the accuracy of sensory information is that not all hypotheses or
issues lend themselves to be measured using sensory data. Cultural differences, gender norms, and

said audience a few characteristics which he shares with the author. He begins his sermon by
informing the audience of his current occupational status and or the condition of it all as well as the
location. He is the chief executive officer of essentially, a tax collectors association. The Salem

Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise, written by Henry Clay, attempted to limit the slavery boundaries; it was
later declared unconstitutional and is also considered one of many events that led to the American
Civil War. The compromise became a precedent for settling subsequent North and South
disagreements over slavery and duty issues, and it remained in effect until rescinded by the Kansas
Nebraska Act of 1854. The Missouri Compromise eased tensions between the North and the South
delaying the civil war The American Civil War. However, it is also considered one of the causes of the
civil war because it increased the division of beliefs between the North and SouthThus, the Missouri
compromise played an important role in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to Clay holding the position, the speaker of the house had a minor role, but Clay shaped the
speakership into a very important and influential job. Clay received his nickname with his masterful
negotiation of issues that threatened to tear the relatively new country apart. Henry Clay grew up in
Kentucky and represented Kentucky, which was a border state between the South and North, because
of this Henry Clay was able to relate to both the North s and South s beliefs on slavery. Since Henry
Clay knew both sides of slavery he was able to act as an unbiased representative for the senate and
was able to create the Missouri compromise without bias. The Missouri compromise included a
solution to the dispute caused by Missouri wanting to become a new slave state. Largely through the
efforts of Henry Clay the amendment was accepted by the House. Missouri was authorized to submit a
proslavery constitution and Maine was admitted to the Union. The Missouri constitution was
presented to Congress for approval in 1821. It included a paragraph requiring the legislature to prevent
the immigration of free blacks into the state. The antislavery faction in Congress objected to this
provision and a compromise bill, often called the Second Missouri Compromise, was passed on March
2, 1821. This measure forbade Missouri to limit the rights guaranteed to all citizens by the federal
government, meaning it could not ban the entry of free blacks into the state.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mitral Valve
Introduction
Mitral valve replacement is surgery to replace the mitral valve with an artificial (prosthetic) valve. You
may need this procedure if your mitral valve is too damaged to repair, such as from rheumatic disease.
Three types of prosthetic valves are available:
Mechanical valves made entirely from prosthetic materials.
Donor valves from human donors. These are only used in special situations.
Biological valves made from animal tissues.
There are two types of mitral valve replacement surgeries:
Traditional mitral valve replacement surgery.
Minimally invasive mitral valve replacement surgery.
You and your surgeon will decide which type of valve is best for you and which type of surgery you
will have.
Tell a health care provider about:
Any allergies you have.
All medicines you are taking, including vitamins, herbs, eye drops, creams, and over the counter
medicines.
Any problems you or family members have had anesthetic medicine.
Any blood disorders you have.
Any surgeries you have had.
Any medical conditions you have.
Whether you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
What are the risks?
Generally, this is a safe procedure. However, problems may occur, including:
Infection of the new valve.
Bleeding.
Allergic reactions to medicines.
Damage to other structures or organs.

CEO of the company is trying to decide if it can be afforded. The purpose of this paper will be to
determine if the ABC Company can afford to add the new product line of cedar dollhouses. The paper
will discuss the cash flow of the business, risk factors involved in adding a new product line, and
possible depreciation. Finally, the paper will recommend whether the CEO is making a worthy
business decision.
Risk Analysis First we will discuss the overall risk profile of the company based on current economic
and industry issues. The economic issues the company may face includes a potential rise in raw
materials. This could make it difficult to determine the cost of production for one unit. Industry issues
the company may face include developing the new product and employee loss. The company has to
develop the new product which is a trial and error process; the market for this product may also be
filled causing the product to fail. The company also plans to use the same facility, equipment, and staff
which will definitely mean added expenses and a risk of losing employees.

David and Goliath Analysis Essay
David and Goliath Analysis In the story David and Goliath there is a great lesson to be learned. The
story shows that you should never underestimate your opponent and be prepared for anything. David s
own intellect and knowledge of his own abilities enabled him to become the smaller, but stronger
opponent. It all comes down to who is the better leader. David was a young shepherd boy who
watched over the sheep while feeding and keeping them safe from the lions and bears. While watching
the sheep David would spend many moments speaking to God and playing a harp. David s brothers
were at the battlefield and one day he was sent to the battle lines by his father to bring back news of
his brothers. (Fairchild, 2012) David was not afraid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Goliath laughs at the size of David while David is confident with God by his side. David then uses his
sling shot to launch a stone at Goliath s head which knocks him down on his face. The giant fell
allowing David to take his sword and behead Goliath with it. David took advantage of Goliaths
mistakes. He underestimated David s ability and failed to move out of the way of the rock. If you are
prepared for all obstacles and keep an open mind you are more likely to come out victorious. David s
own intellect and knowledge of his own abilities made Goliath the smaller, but stronger opponent.
This story can be related to the difference between WW1 and WW2. During WW1 trench warfare was
used. Trench warfare is a ditch dug out of the ground to give troops protection from the enemies. The
soldiers used machine guns, mustard and chlorine gases and smokeless gunpowder to ward off the
enemy. Machine guns were the main weapons used by soldiers. However they needed 4 6 men to man
them (Tasker, 2012) and had to be positioned on a flat surfaces. When the mustard and chlorine gases
were released the soldiers had to take great precaution to not breathe it in because the result is
immediate death. These trenches also carried many diseases and rats making it a harsh condition for
soldiers. By the time of WW2 also known as the Cold War the atomic bomb was invented. The atomic
bomb has the ability to take out an entire city. Russia and the U.S. achieve nuclear equality

Analyse the Different Ways in Which Countries Can Attempt...
Firstly, the economic problem is split into three questions, which are: what to produce? How to
produce? Who to produce for? These three questions can also be summed up as scarcity which is the
inadequate amount of resources available. Consumers have wants which are unlimited; they would
always want more, but due to the economic problem, scarcity, not everyone will get there want
fulfilled, therefore causing a problem. Different countries can attempt to overcome the economic
problem in several ways; which is to apply a different economy system to their country. Due to
scarcity consumers will now have to make a choice of what they want, by sacrificing the next best
alternative when making a decision, this is known as opportunity cost. ... Show more content on

of it. Factors of production causes scarcity which in turns leads to people making choices due to the
economy problem in the country; however countries do follow economy system to try and overcome
these problems. These are: free market economy; mixed economy and command economy. All three

market economy is an economy system which is controlled by supply and demand and has very little
or non government influence. Hong Kong has been one of the freest market economy countries in the
world. This year, however, several government moves have sparked renewed debate as to whether
Hong Kong is abandoning its laissez faire principles. Cathy Yan. (2010). Face Off: Is Hong Kong Still

How Does Jane Austen Portray Women In Northanger Abbey
Northanger Abbey, a Strong Refection of Regency Society Through the way Jane Austen portrays
female characters in Northanger Abbey, it is clear that she strongly disagrees with the social
expectations of women in her time. During the Regency period when Northanger Abbey was written,
women were very limited on what they could do, due to lack of education, the societal restrictions,
and the overall opportunity available. These limitations caused females to have to take their public
appearance and social standpoint very seriously, because their only way having a secure future, was
marrying a respectable man. Catherine Morland, Austen s heroine, is faced with all of these pressures,
from her early childhood all the way into her adult life. Austen ... Show more content on

Allen, Austen mocks the expected appearance of women in society. Mrs. Allen though kind, never has
anything to talk about other than gowns or fashion. For example, when Catherine is in serious need of
guidance after missing a formal engagement with the Tilneys, the only advice Mrs. Allen is able to
offer Catherine in her time of need is Go by all means my dear; only put on a white gown; Miss Tilney
always wears white (Austen 61). Mrs. Allen s care for appearance is further exemplified when
Catherine is getting important advice from Mr. Allen about riding around in open carriages with
different men. Mr. Allen sees it Is not right , while Mrs. Allen s only objection to the subject is Open
carriages are nasty things, a clean gown is not five minutes wear in them (Austen 71). An issue that
could tarnish Catherine s reputation in a society and all Mrs. Allen cares about is how it could affect
ones dress. Due to Mrs. Allen s existence being consumed with fashion, it has left her a blank slate,
having done nothing real with her life. Austen makes this apparent to the reader in a scene where Mrs.
Allen runs into her old school friend, Mrs. Thorpe. Mrs. Thorpe, though widowed, as raised a big
family, and has set her oldest sons up for a possible bright future. Mrs. Allen, according to Austen Had
no similar information to give, no similar triumphs to press on...... which left her only to commit on
how Mrs. Thorpe s pelisse , was Not half as handsome as that of her own her own (Austen 18, 19).
Having nothing to contribute to the conversation, Mrs. Allen is left resulting to the only things that
gives her life meaning: gowns, dresses and fashion. Though relationships and appearance are big
issues for women in Austen s eyes, perhaps the thing she despises the most is the expected education
level of women, which she addresses through her main character,

  • 2. Essay about Meaning and Identity in Public Art Meaning and Identity in Public Art While visiting the Capitol Square, I felt like I had stepped back into an ancient Greek culture. From the colossal pillars supporting the building to the bronze statues of Greek goddesses among our war heroes it is easy to mistake the Capitol building for a Greek temple. I want to share with you what the architecture communicated to me, what the subject of the art was that I observed, and why the building was placed where it now stands. Anyone who possesses basic knowledge about ancient Greece could surely see the similarities between Greek temples and the Capitol building. There is even an inscription on the Capitol building stating it is a Greek revival structure . The building has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What all this detail says to me is that this is a place where powerful people work and where many important functions of the city take place. I gain a sense that whoever is employed here has a great deal of wealth, be it in knowledge or money, and tremendous authority. The Greeks saw their rulers as being next to godliness, and in a way, the people who work here are our rulers. The subject of the art that I observed had a theme of peace, war, nobility, and discovery. The first statue I saw was a large monument made of bronze and marble. The monument featured Ulysses S. Grant, James A. Garfield, Phillip Sheridan, William T. Sherman, Rutherford B. Hayes, Salmon Chase, and Edwin Stanton standing under a Greek goddess (who resembles Ceres because she is surrounded by bushels of wheat and grains) with a quote under her that says These are my jewels . These men were by far the greatest men to come from Ohio and just like the Greeks who cast their heroes in bronze, so have we cast our heroes for all to see in bronze at the Capitol. The next monument I saw was a huge angel in bronze that included an inscription about peace. Then, on another side of the building, there are two monuments to the soldiers that went to fight at Iwo Jima. These walls contain etched letters from various soldiers, some of them are happy letters while others are very sad. There seemed to be many monuments to war than anything else. The monuments about war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. To His Coy Mistress Alliteration Through use of tone, situation and setting, and specific word choice, the authors create a scene that is easily recognizable and relatable. In the poem To His Coy Mistress the speaker attempts to seduce a hesitant woman. The speaker s attempts to persuade the mistress can be identified with the change of tone and pace in the poem. For example, Had we but world enough, and time, This coyness, lady, were no crime. (1 2) in these two opening lines, Marvell uses punctuation in order to slow down the pace of the poem without interfering with his consistent use of iambic. This reflects the speakers message of how pointless time is. This is followed by the repeated use of open vowel sounds, such as would, which, way, and our in the next two lines to make the reader sound wistful as if they are sighing We would sit down, and think which way To walk, and pass our long love s day (3 4). To further woo the mistress, alliteration is also used to great effect, in line 1 we and world , in line 2 coyness and crime , in Line 3 we would and which way and finally in line 4 long love s . In the next sixteen lines, it can be sensed the speaker has upon his lips a slow smirk forming, that coincides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He begins the poem by asking the young woman to Mark this flea (1) which has bitten and sucked blood from both himself and her. He points out that she has denied him something which the flea has not refrained from enjoying: the intimate union of their bodily fluids. This regular occurrence, he argues, cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead (5 6); if this tiny commingling of the two people is not wrong, then how can a greater commingling be considered evil or undesirable? In this cave, they can see shadows which are the extent to their knowledge of the outside world. He explains how to them this is their world and what they see and hear is all that they can know, so he then explains how if one man were to escape he will be able to truly see how great the world actually is. Moreover, as he returns to the cave everyone else calls him a liar convinced that their reality is real. This allegory shows how there is a battle between what is truth and what is fantasy and one has to be able to learn how to decipher between them. • 5. What Is The Theme In Death Of A Salesman In 1949 Arthur Miller wrote a play Death of a Salesman , it has transformed the author into a national sensation by winning the Pulitzer Prize. Death of a Salesman as many critics suggested was the first best written American tragedy, leading to Miller gaining popularity as a man who understood and brought to life the deep core of reality in United States. This novel describes tragic and most importantly painful conflicts between family members and covers larger human values as the motifs of the happening which American citizens might relate to. The themes, motifs and symbols are the key to noticing understanding the deeper context of the story. Themes Firstly, the fundamental theme of Death of a Salesman is the blind faith in the American dream. It is an American tradition in which Willy believes wholeheartedly. By living the American Dream ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the point when Biff leaves Willy s aspirations for him, Willy takes this dismissal as a personal attack. Willy, all things considered, is a sales representative, and Biff s inner self pulverizing rebuke eventually reflects Willy s failure to offer him on the American Dream the one thing in which Willy himself believes dependably. He supposes that the betrayal of Biff is led from him discovering The Woman s and Willy s romance, cheating on Linda and betraying her love. Motif Areas like the American West, African Jungle and Alaska represent the capability of instinct to Biff and Willy. Willy s father discovered success in Alaska and his sibling, Ben, became rich in Africa. These fascinating areas, particularly when contrasted with Willy s commonplace Brooklyn neighborhood, solidify how Willy s fixation on the commercial world of the city has caught him in a disagreeable reality. While Alaska and the African wilderness symbolize Willy s failure, the American West, then again, symbolizes Biff s potential. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

French Republican Calendar Dbq The French Republican Calendar During the French Revolution the National Convention started defacing the French Catholic Church with the goal to decrease its influence and power. In this effort in doing so, the National Convention made a new calendar to replace the Gregorian calendar in which they implemented their own ideas and changed the days, months, and holidays. The French Republican calendar lasted for 12 years and much opinions and reactions were formed during, and after its creation. Gilbert Rommes argument to as of why the Gregorian calendar should be replaced was that the calendar was made by ignorant people(Document 1). Abbe Sieyes believed that the time wasn t right to make any changes to the Gregorian calendar. When the Gregorian calendar made its return in 1806 it was appreciated and hated(Document 7). For Napoleon, the French Republican calendar was a sad and weak decade in which festivals weren t even dedicated to the to the charity. The parent or mature Christian is fully engaged in the mission of Jesus Christ. People who are in this stage are those who are witnessing and discipling others, in the same manner that he or she was discipled. They are looking out for the immature Christians, and taking them under their wing to encourage, listen to, and strengthen them to maturity in Christ. The four spheres of relationships are as follows; the relationship with God, the relationship with family or home, relationship with church and believers, and the relationship with the world. The most important sphere is the relationship with God. This sphere or the relationship with God needs to be vibrant, fresh, and personal. All of the other spheres will work or be in line when our relationship with God is in line. The sphere dealing with the home can be taxing at times. The relationship here is much easier when everyone in the home are Christians. However, if dad is a Christian and mom is not, or vice versa, or perhaps a child or children surrender their lives to the calling of Jesus, and mom and dad have not, family relationships and harmony in the home can become much more difficult. Paul writes about how the relationships in the home should be. He talks about how each person should deal with the other. So why do they obsess over this issue that won t solve the problem anyway? Why is this so important to them and a danger to our civil rights? This will be an examination of the underlying elements of this issue and why gun owners will never accept government control over their private property. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best they can offer is the much abused commerce clause and even that falls short given that refers to commerce between the states, not between neighbours and friends. This is a very important, but rarely discussed issue that goes to the central tenets of liberty. Our civil rights are based upon the control of private property. In fact one could argue that it s not even private property if it s under government edict. While some would like to cite the adage that possession is nine tenths of the law the reality is that ownership is vested in the entity that controls an item s storage, use and transference. If the government controls those parameters it is the true owner of that property with the people being it s temporary possessors. There are those desirous of control who want people to think that firearms as somehow different than other items of property, simply because those items are a constraint over governmental power. While lorries and other motorised vehicles can be deadly, they don t serve as a constraint on tyranny so they are no concern of the Left. The plain fact is that firearms aren t any different than other types of property. As it is with the government, the slippery slope will see them try to control other types of property if it can get people to accept it with firearms. The story is a gripping tale of three teen boys living on the edge , in which the author presents himself and his friends as a group of dangerous individuals. One would think that the narrator has truth in his words, but all events in the story point to the contrary. T. Corahessan Boyle, or T. C. Boyle for short, is an unreliable narrator. The truth of this story is not in the text, but in the underlying meanings and subliminal nuances. This hidden reality really helps the reader make a direct judgment of the characters. He merely backed off a step, his face like a Toltec mask, and laid Digby out with a single whistling roundhouse blow (Boyle 166) . . . Tough guys do not get knocked out in one blow, they stand and fight. When all hope for the young rebels seems to be lost, the narrator remembers an old tire iron he has hidden under his seat. He recalls the last time he was in a fight, which was too long ago to even matter. I came at him and brought the tire iron down on his ear (Boyle 166). Primal instinct kicked in and the greaser from the 57 Chevy was out cold. It was far from a deserving victory as the one man put up a hell of a fight. The greaser nearly nailed a hat trick if it wasn t for the narrator s cheap knockout. In reality only cowards fight with metal pipes, real bad dudes fight with their fists. The Suspense And Surprise In And Then There Were None The suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None Suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None Every well written murder mystery does not have fixed features because the writers of detective story always want to give their readers a unique feeling, but suspense and surprise are essential and indispensable. (Alewyn 184) In Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None, she fully combines suspense and surprise through the omniscient point of view and poignant plot. Therefore, And Then There Were None is a well written murder mystery. The omniscient point of view means a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all of the characters in the story. (Abrams 233) Plot is the series of events that form the story of a novel, play, and film (Abrams 294). Inspector Abberline who was on the jack the ripper case, thought that it was a woman who had done it the entire time. The theory started after one of the murders of a woman named Mary Kelly. Mary Kelly was murdered between the hours of 2 and 3 in the morning. Yet Caroline Maxwell had claimed to see her twice that morning after the time she was said to have passed. She claimed to have seen Mary Kelly at around 8am looking sick. And again around an hour later talking to some man outside the pub house. It would be very easy for a midwife to pull of being jack the ripper. It was not unusual for a midwife to be walking around all hours of the night, let alone have blood on her clothes because people would have just thought it was from her working. • 15. Globalization Vs Neorealism Globalization is the intensification of networks of interdependence at multi continental distances. It is the idea that actions in one area of the world affect different areas in the world. The argument, though, is whether or not globalization is occurring, if countries are dependent or interdependent. When turning on the news today, one might see more on whats going on in Russia or North Korea than in their own backyard. This is an example of Globalization. By examining it through Neorealism, one can better understand its prevalence. Neorealism primarily centers on the importance of the structure of the international system when explaining the events in international politics. It states that a state s position in the international system determines its actions and behavior. The father of Neorealism, Waltz, stated in the Journal of Politics and Society that, different international relation structure permit and cause the units of a system to change their behavior and produce different outcomes (Waltz p.4). If that be the case, then Globalization is at the center of politics. The theory of Neorealism itself defends the argument that Globalization is occurring; one state s capabilities directly affects another s actions. To better understand this one must accept that the international system s ordering principle is anarchy, the idea that there is no higher authority or world government. This creates an almost self help kind of atmosphere for all of the world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When archaeologists excavate a site, the common practice of digging and removing artifacts is sometimes frowned upon by the communities in the surrounding area. In the 1800 s people s views of indigenous communities where reprehensible to say the lest American Indians were held to be inferior to civilized men in order to rationalize the seizure of Indian lands, and that eventually, racial myths grew to supplant any other myths about Indians as a justification for waging war on Indians and violating their treaties. After, the author explores the causes of the issues that the company was experiencing and the effects that they had on Lululemon Athletica Inc. The next step is to look at ways in which the issues could have been addressed both for the short term and long term. • 19. Power Of Education In The Great Gatsby October 5, 2014 For centuries, the world has favored those who are in possession of a higher intelligence. Historically, ruling classes were composed of educated nobles or trained workers, the few who had been able to receive an education. Education in developed countries is often included in the basic rights to which every human should have access. Its importance has been the focal point of countless movements, all petitioning for the opportunity of schooling for lower class citizens. The United States of America, though it has experienced significant changes in regards to the literacy of all citizens, did not do so without difficulty. The two most notable groups to fight for the right to equal education had to struggle for years to obtain their goals. African Americans had little to no rights until the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865, and even then, only males were allowed to read and write. Women did not begin attending college in equal numbers to men until as recently as 1980. The strong correlation between power and education makes possessing a sound education a valuable asset and highly sought after. Education s role in society is a prevalent theme throughout Scott F. Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. Tom s supremacy through education and wealth contrasts heavily with Gatsby s lack of knowledge, creating tension within the novel between the two opposing men. • 20. Effects of Surfactants on Suppository Absorption Essay... Suppositories are the frequently used dosage forms prescribed through rectal route. However, suppositories have the limitation of prolonged onset of action which can be attributed to poor drug release properties of suppository base. Surfactants can increase the drug release to aid absorption by reducing the interfacial tension between rectal fluids and the suppository base. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of different concentrations of sodium lauryl sulphate and tween 80 on the drug release of paracetamol from suppositories of palm kernel base (HAMIN®). Drugs are incorporated into suitable suppository bases which may be fatty base or water soluble base to form suppositories into suitable shape to be inserted into the rectum. [3] In the rectum, the suppositories release their drug content by melting at body temperature or dissolving in rectal mucous secretion to be diffused across the rectal epithelium into the mucosa that is abundantly vascularised. [4] The drug can be absorbed through the middle and inferior rectal veins into systemic circulation by passing the hepatic first pass metabolism, which gives the rectal route of administration an extra advantage. Paracetamol is a well known drug for its analgesic and antipyretic activity. It is available in oral, rectal and intravenous dosage form. The most common route of administration is the oral route as paracetamol is being absorbed well through this route with the bioavailability of 63 89%. [5] The absorption half life through oral route is 4.5 minutes with no lag time. [6] The rectal form of paracetamol is mainly intended to be used in children as they have difficulty in swallowing oral medication. The bioavailability of paracetamol administered through rectal route is in the range of 24 98%, depending on the suppositories physical composition with 35 minutes of mean absorption half life and 40 minutes of lag time. We need to learn to protect what we take for granted every day and what s left of our earth. Although, our earth is continuously losing its picturesque beauty it is no longer full of lush grass, crystal clear oceans, and an abundance of animals. However, my connection towards the earth is powerful because I wish to cherish its beauty, live in faith that the earth will remain, and to remember the connections I made with the earth. Earth will not destroy itself but, humankind will. Thus, making the ending of humankind and nature inevitable unless we take actions now. Naturally, we are expected to preserve earth s beauty and its ability to help humankind survive. Personally, it troubles me that our own species will not take the time to secure our future generations with the natural resources we are given every day. Our earth provides us with water, oxygen, food, and so much more but instead we have chosen to slowly destroy it by oil leakage, littering causing climate change, and wars amongst one another. To my family, the earth is precious to everything that we do. However, we are not models of what it means to fully take part in taking care of the environment. We only recycle bags and plastic, have minimal trash, and pick up other people s trash when we can. I want to cherish the glorifying moments of seeing blue whales, killer whales, and coral ... • 37. The Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self In this modern day world, people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think they mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are identity, and self. Identity to me is similar to the social scientist phrase presentation of self , and what that means is how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that are constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self, which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the family struggle with knowing their self, and identity. The family begins as middle upper class, materialistic people in California that are nameless with a sense of family unity, and self worth. Eventually transforming to isolated, exhausted, loss souls having to wear ID numbers on their collar (p. 24). Starting off with the father, which is a very symbolic character since he is only spoken about in memories, and letters. Even so far away his family describes him as loving, caring, and warm hearted. The children would say Our father, the father we remembered, and had dreamed of, almost nightly, all through the years of the war, was handsome and strong. He moved quickly, surely, with his head held high in the air. He liked to draw for us. He liked to sing for us. He liked to laugh (p. 132). Written Assignment Michael Scorza Student ID# 0584210 2015SEP PHI 286 OL008 Written Assignment 1; 1of2 The nature of the good life from a philosophical point of view is not as simple as the typical picture that may pop into one s head of lying on a beach in a tropical paradise sipping frozen daiquiris. Depending on which type of ethical model you use will change the picture. For Thucydides his view point seems to be that Might is Right versus Plato s Might for Right as well as a search for what is right. Another way to differentiate the two would be to say one is for what I have the right to do and that makes it right verses what is the right thing to do and what makes it right. If we (the Athenians) attack, the Spartans are not going to help you because based on our observations they are more about serving their interests than yours (the Melians). Thucydides, further illustrates this by proving the Athenians were right in their calculations of the situation. His story is not only empirical, they are a direct attack on normative ethics. The Melians believed they knew what was right and that the Spartans would come to their aid because they believed it was the right thing to do. But they were proven to be incorrect, supporting the idea that this story was not only empirical but a disagreement in the validity of normative ethics. Plato however I believe would have been on the side of the Melians in Thucydides story. Interestingly enough Socrates would have died just as he does in his own story The Apology of placing all his beliefs in normative ethics. In Plato s The Apology he begins his tale with a blatant normative argument. He states that the Athenians assigned Socrates a post during a battle and that he stood his ground and did not leave because he believed it was the right thing to do. By definition normative ethics are ethics based on values. There is no way to measure values. Unlike a math equation there is no right or wrong answer. • 40. Accuracy or Inaccuracy of Sensory Perception Provide at least three (3) reasons for believing in the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory information. Sensory perception is the foundation of scientific knowledge and philosophical reality. This is one of the reasons for believing the accuracy of sensory information. Science depends on the standardization of sensory input and instruments. Human sensory organs are generally the same across the species, with few exceptions. One of the reasons why sensory information is accurate is that all human beings can basically agree on data such as the sky being blue, satin being soft, and sugar being sweet. The fact that sensory information provides a common ground for people being human is one of the reasons for believing in the accuracy of sensory information. Another reason for believing the accuracy of sensory data is that it can in many cases be measurable and predictable. This is why sensory information provides the foundation for empirical measurements and scientific data. However, there are also reasons for believing the inaccuracy of sensory information. Reasons include the variability of the human experience, including situational variables like sleep deprivation, hunger, or emotional state of being. Sensory information will be distorted when a person is too tired, angry, or hungry. Another reason to doubt the accuracy of sensory information is that not all hypotheses or issues lend themselves to be measured using sensory data. Cultural differences, gender norms, and other ... Clay received his nickname with his masterful negotiation of issues that threatened to tear the relatively new country apart. Henry Clay grew up in Kentucky and represented Kentucky, which was a border state between the South and North, because of this Henry Clay was able to relate to both the North s and South s beliefs on slavery. Since Henry Clay knew both sides of slavery he was able to act as an unbiased representative for the senate and was able to create the Missouri compromise without bias. The Missouri compromise included a solution to the dispute caused by Missouri wanting to become a new slave state. Largely through the efforts of Henry Clay the amendment was accepted by the House. Missouri was authorized to submit a proslavery constitution and Maine was admitted to the Union. The Missouri constitution was presented to Congress for approval in 1821. It included a paragraph requiring the legislature to prevent the immigration of free blacks into the state. The antislavery faction in Congress objected to this provision and a compromise bill, often called the Second Missouri Compromise, was passed on March 2, 1821. This measure forbade Missouri to limit the rights guaranteed to all citizens by the federal government, meaning it could not ban the entry of free blacks into the state. ... How Does Jane Austen Portray Women In Northanger Abbey Northanger Abbey, a Strong Refection of Regency Society Through the way Jane Austen portrays female characters in Northanger Abbey, it is clear that she strongly disagrees with the social expectations of women in her time. During the Regency period when Northanger Abbey was written, women were very limited on what they could do, due to lack of education, the societal restrictions, and the overall opportunity available. These limitations caused females to have to take their public appearance and social standpoint very seriously, because their only way having a secure future, was marrying a respectable man. Allen, Austen mocks the expected appearance of women in society. Mrs. Allen though kind, never has anything to talk about other than gowns or fashion. For example, when Catherine is in serious need of guidance after missing a formal engagement with the Tilneys, the only advice Mrs. Allen is able to offer Catherine in her time of need is Go by all means my dear; only put on a white gown; Miss Tilney always wears white (Austen 61). Mrs. Allen s care for appearance is further exemplified when Catherine is getting important advice from Mr. Allen about riding around in open carriages with different men. Mr. Allen sees it Is not right , while Mrs. Allen s only objection to the subject is Open carriages are nasty things, a clean gown is not five minutes wear in them (Austen 71). An issue that could tarnish Catherine s reputation in a society and all Mrs. Allen cares about is how it could affect ones dress. Due to Mrs. Allen s existence being consumed with fashion, it has left her a blank slate, having done nothing real with her life. Austen makes this apparent to the reader in a scene where Mrs. Allen runs into her old school friend, Mrs. Thorpe.
