Missouri Geological Hazards
Geological Hazards of Missouri

Geology 111C, Section 04MH
Mr. David VanDeVelde
July 3, 2015
Geological Hazards of Missouri Although many may not consider Missouri to be a hot spot of
geological related natural disasters, there are multiple geological hazards which occur throughout the
state. According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Geological Survey Program, the
hazards most often occurring in Missouri are earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes and abandoned mines
(Geologic Hazards). Although most of the current earthquakes in Missouri measure between 1.0 and
2.0 on the Richter scale, the New Madrid Seismic Zone extends through the southeastern part of the
state. In 1811 1812, Missouri was struck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to a cave, a sinkhole begins by acidic water dissolving carbonate bedrock creating an
underground void. If the void grows close enough to the surface, the structural integrity of the surface
material will eventually give way and a sinkhole is formed. These depressions can range in size from a
few square yards to over hundreds of acres. The depth of sinkholes can vary from shallow to hundreds
of feet. Although there are nearly 16,000 verified sinkholes in the state, the MGS caution there are a
great number which have not been reported or documented. Some sinkholes in Missouri are known to
be a depth greater than 100 feet though no exact records concerning depths are maintained. Located in
western Boone County, the largest known sinkhole in Missouri covers approximately 700 acres. If a
sinkhole does occur, it is recommended that a registered geologist or professional engineer be
consulted to assist in the stabilization of the sinkhole. Filling a sinkhole, referred to as remediation,
generally consists of removing all soil materials down to the bedrock surface and filling it with size
graded material. Larger rocks should be used first with each successive layer consisting of gradually
smaller grained material. Geotextile fabric covered by top soil will allow water

Dynamic Of Families And Marriage In The 1500 s
Speech on family on marriage life
The dynamic of families and marriage have progressed since the 1500s. In the 1500s, they had
arranged marriages to suit the families. The first part of my speech that I am going to talk about is
marriage life. In the 16th century, societies were bound together by religion. The dictionary definition
of marriage is a relationship where 2 people have pledged themselves to each other in the manner of a
husband and wife. The women back then had very little, if there was any, chance to choose who her
husband got to be. The people in the upper social classes didn t get much of a selection, but the lower
class had the chance to choose their future spouse. The marriages were frequently arranged, but the
people getting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their families and relatives arranged it for them. They considered it foolish to marry for love. During
the performance of the wedding ceremony, they would get married by a father, referring to Romeo and
Juliet. If the children had parental permission, the boys could get married at 14 and the girls at 12, but
it was more common for the boys to get married at 21. When the weddings began, the couples were
meeting for the first time. They would get married on windy days because they believed it would
prevent bad luck. They would have a huge feast after the ceremony because it was customary. Women
grew up believing that they belonged to their husbands like it was their property. Marriage was first
established in the time frame of 1250 1300 C.E. In most of the ceremonies, women didn t wear white
wedding dresses because it wasn t tradition then. They wore their best dress with a kirtle on top, which
is the thing they wore over their dress. If they had money available, they could buy a new dress. It
became tradition by the mid 19th century

Case Study Freeflyer
Hi Jun,
Thank you for evaluating FreeFlyer and your patience while we worked through your issue. Our Tech
Support team has spent some time analyzing your Mission Plan s (MP). We are happy to see you using
the Orbit Determination (OD) abilities of FreeFlyer. We do have some suggestions to help in
simplifying your MP and evaluating your results.
To recap, you have three separate MP s; the first is to setup your spacecraft and export the state vector
as an ephemeris. Then the second MP is used to apply the Black Jack point solution data file to the
ephemeris file using a Kalman Filter tool. The final MP then uses the Tracking Data Editor to generate
a new Black Jack point solution data file from the original Black Jack point solution. Although, ...

o In your spacecraft GUI there is a tab for the propagator step size (Spacecraft1  Motion Model 
Propagator  Step Size) set to 300 seconds, where as your Kalman Filter step size is only 60 seconds.
The Spacecraft step size should be identical to the Kalman Filter step size. This is mainly due to the
Kalman Filter step size taking precedent in FreeFlyer and wanting to ensure that the spacecraft
propagation is synced with the Kalman Filter. o Also under the Motion Model you are using 22 Zonal
and Tesseral potential fields and the Analytic density model. Although this is not incorrect you would
receive a better estimate if you used the Jacchia Roberts density model and increased your Zonals to a
larger number. I have updated the Zonals and Tesserals, in the attached MP, to use 40

Phloem Study Guide
(5 pts) 1. Describe the pressure flow model of translocation in the phloem. Does water move down its
water potential gradient in this model? (4 5 sentences max.) The flow is driven by an osmotically
generated pressure gradient between the source and the sink. The translocation pathway has cross
walls that allow water to move between the xylem and phloem. At the source phloem loading causes
high solute concentrations. Pressure decreases, so water flows into the cells increasing pressure. At the
sink pressure is lower outside the cell due to unloading of sucrose. Osmotic loss of water releases
hydrostatic pressure. Water movement is driven by pressure gradient and not osmosis.

Both have redox reactions that establish H+ gradients across a membrane and couple the downhill
flow of H+ back across the membrane through specific protein channels. A difference is that
mitochondria uses NADH and FADH2 as electron donors, which are good reducing agents.
Chloroplast uses water, which requires light energy since water is a poor reducing agent. Mitochondria
require oxidative phosphorylation while chloroplast requires photophosphorylation.
(5 pts) 3. Why is ammonium toxic to plant cells? Explain how they avoid ammonium toxicity. (4 5
sentences max.)
Too much ammonium is toxic to plants at high levels. Plants assimilate it rapidly or store it in vacuole.
If too much nitrate and nitrite accumulate it could also be potentially toxic. In order to avoid toxicity
plants assimilate nitrate or ammonia to produce amino acids. Overall, the atmospheric nitrogen is
reduced to ions that can be incorporated into organic compounds. Plants then use these organic
compounds to synthesize amino acids.

composition and mechanical properties? (4 5 sentences

Edward De Veere s Influence On Shakespeare
Nearly ten percent of the most quoted lines in the English language are accredited to William
Shakespeare. But should this be the case? Many scholars argue that Shakespeare is not the author of
his plays. In fact, none other than Edward de Vere comes to the forefront of this controversy. De Vere
was highly educated, had a biographical connection to some of the characters in Shakespeare s plays
and had a similar writing structure to Shakespeare. The evidence is clear that William from Stratfor
did not write his plays, but rather Edward de Vere did.
De Vere was fully qualified to write the thorough pieces of work that were attributed to Shakespeare.
According to BBC America, de Vere was highly educated and trained as a lawyer . Since a multitude
of Shakespeare s plays deal with legal matters, the author must have been familiar with the law
system, which de Vere was. According to Britannica, de Vere studied with Arthur Golding (who
translated Metamorphoses by Ovid, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Britannica, [de Vere s] poems apparently ceased just before Shakespeare s work began to
appear (The Editors of EncyclopĂŠdia Britannica). De Vere started writing through poetry, but soon
after his career halted, Shakespeare s writing started to be seen. It is believed that de Vere stopped
writing under his own name in order to protect his family from the social stigma that was associated
with the theater. Therefore, de Vere began writing under another name, Shakespeare. This theory is
also proven by the fact that de Vere s work was similar to Shakespeare s. As stated in Absolute
Shakespeare, they both used six line pentameter stanzas ( De Vere Authorship Argument ). This is is
significant because this type of poetry was not used very commonly among poets of Shakespeare s
time. The similarities between de Vere and Shakespeare s poems shows the potential authorship de
Vere could have

Two Separate Nations Tanakh Analysis

Tanakh
Two Separate Nations
In the story of BNY s exodus from Egypt God uses a series of extraordinary yet drastic plagues before
God finally takes BNY out from Egypt. Throughout the plagues there seems to be many modifications
and additons to the original requests Moshe made to Pharaoh, ‫ŚȘ‬ ‫ֶŚâ€Ź ‫֌ַŚœŚ—‏ ‫ŚÖ·Ś©â€Ź ,‫Śšâ€Źâ€«Ö”ŚœŚÖ覞‬ ‫ֶŚœŚ™ÖžŚšâ€Ź ‫֔Śâ€Ź ‫Ś™â€Źâ€«ÖŽŚ â€Źâ€«ÖžŚœÖ·Ś—‏ ‫ŚÖ°Ś©â€Ź ‫Ś™Śâ€Ź ‫֎Śšâ€Ź ‫ְŚ‘‏ ‫֎Śąâ€Źâ€«ÖžŚ”‏ ‫Ś™â€Źâ€«Ö±ŚÖčŚœÖ”Ś”‏ ‫Ś”ÖžŚ•Ś”‏‫ְŚ™â€Ź

By the end of the plagues Moshe tells Pharaoh, ‫ַŚœŚ™Ś”ÖžŚ•Ś”‏ ‫Ś™Ś ÖŒŚ•â€Ź ‫֞ŚąŚ‚ÖŽŚ©â€Źâ€«Ö°Ś•â€Ź ;‫Ö覜ŚȘ‏‫Ö茹‏‫ְŚ•â€Ź ‫Ś™Śâ€Ź ‫֎Ś—‏‫ְŚ–ÖžŚ‘‏ ‫Ś ÖŒŚ•â€Źâ€«ÖžŚ™Ö”Ś“‏ ‫֌ְŚ‘‏ ‫ŚŸâ€Ź ‫֌֔ŚȘ‬ ‫֌֎ŚȘ‬ ‫Ś”‏ ‫֌֞ŚȘ‬ ‫ַŚâ€Ź
‫Ś™Ś ÖŒŚ•â€Źâ€«Ö±ŚÖčŚœÖ”Ś”‏ . At that point in the story Pharaoh had already conceded to letting all of BNY go and yet Moshe

There are three major statements made previous to the actual event of the plague that serve as insight
into the intentions of God. The first statement is ‫Ś™Śšâ€Źâ€«Ö¶Ś“‏‫ÖČŚąÖžŚ‘â€Źâ€«ÖŒŚ•Ö·Ś‘‏ ‫֞Śšâ€Ź ‫֌ְŚ‘‏ ‫Ś™Ö·Ś—‏‫֎Śœâ€Ź ‫ŚÖ°Ś©â€Źâ€«Ö·Śžâ€Ź ‫Ś™â€Źâ€«ÖŽŚ â€Źâ€«Ö°Ś â€Ź ‫֎Ś”‏ , while God as already told
moshe the plauges will fall on the ‫ŚąŚ‘Ś“Ś™Śâ€Ź of Pharaoh repatition of any word communicates the
importance of that word to the overall understanding of what going on in the text. Not only does this
plagues warning include repetition but it s second important section of the warning is when God tells
Moshe to say to Pharaph that, ‫֞ŚąÖ¶ŚœŚ™ÖžŚ”‏ ‫Ś“‏‫֔Śžâ€Źâ€«Ö覱‬ ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫ַŚąÖŒÖŽŚžâ€Ź ‫Śšâ€Ź ‫ÖČŚŚÖ¶Ś©â€Ź ,‫ŚŸâ€Ź ‫ŚÖ¶Ś©â€Źâ€«ÖŒÖ覒‬ ‫Ś„‬ ‫ֶŚšâ€Ź ‫ֶŚâ€Ź ‫ŚȘ‬ ‫ֶŚâ€Ź ‫Ś”ÖŒŚ•Śâ€Źâ€«Ö·Ś”‏ ‫֌Ś™Ö覕Śâ€Źâ€«Ö·Ś‘‏ ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫֔ŚœŚ™ÖŽŚȘ‬ ‫ְŚ€â€Ź ‫֎Ś”‏‫ְŚ•â€Ź, so there won t be any
insects in the land of BNY and later states that, ‫֞Śšâ€Źâ€«Ö·ŚąÖŒÖ¶Śžâ€Ź ‫Ś™ŚŸâ€Źâ€«ÖŒŚ•Ö”Ś‘‏ ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫ַŚąÖŒÖŽŚžâ€Ź ‫Ś™ŚŸâ€Źâ€«ÖŒÖ”Ś‘‏ ,‫ֻŚ“ŚȘ‬ ‫ְŚ€â€Ź ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫֌֎ŚȘ‬ ‫ְŚžâ€Ź ‫Ś‚Ö·Ś©â€Źâ€«Ö°Ś•â€Ź . The first statement seems to
make a specific statement, BNY won t suffer plagues because I will separate their land from that of the
Egyptians, on the other hand the second statement seems to be seperate saying that there will be a
distinction between the individual nations, not just their land. Lastly in between those two statements
God says, ‫Ś„‬ ‫ֶŚšâ€Ź ‫֞Śâ€Źâ€«ÖžŚ”‏ ‫Ś‘‏ ‫ֶŚšâ€Źâ€«Ö¶Ś§â€Ź ‫֌ְŚ‘‏ ‫Ś”ÖžŚ•Ś”‏‫ְŚ™â€Ź ‫Ś™â€Źâ€«ÖČŚÖŽŚ â€Ź ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫֌֎Ś›â€Ź ,‫Śąâ€Źâ€«Ö·Ś“‏ ‫֌֔ŚȘ‬ ‫ַŚąŚŸâ€Źâ€«Ö·Śžâ€Źâ€«Ö°Śœâ€Ź . Not only does the placement of this statement make it clear
to the reader that ‫֞ŚąÖ¶ŚœŚ™ÖžŚ”‏ ‫Ś“‏‫֔Śžâ€Źâ€«Ö覱‬ ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫ַŚąÖŒÖŽŚžâ€Ź ‫Śšâ€Ź ‫ÖČŚŚÖ¶Ś©â€Ź ,‫ŚŸâ€Ź ‫ŚÖ¶Ś©â€Źâ€«ÖŒÖ覒‬ ‫Ś„‬ ‫ֶŚšâ€Ź ‫ֶŚâ€Ź ‫ŚȘ‬ ‫ֶŚâ€Ź ‫Ś”ÖŒŚ•Śâ€Źâ€«Ö·Ś”‏ ‫֌Ś™Ö覕Śâ€Źâ€«Ö·Ś‘‏ ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫֔ŚœŚ™ÖŽŚȘ‬ ‫ְŚ€â€Ź ‫֎Ś”‏‫ְŚ•â€Ź and ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫ַŚąÖŒÖŽŚžâ€Ź ‫Ś™ŚŸâ€Źâ€«ÖŒÖ”Ś‘‏ ,‫ֻŚ“ŚȘ‬ ‫ְŚ€â€Ź ‫Ś™â€Ź ‫֌֎ŚȘ‬ ‫ְŚžâ€Ź ‫Ś‚Ö·Ś©â€Źâ€«Ö°Ś•â€Ź

Daubert V. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals Case Summary
James Shannon CRJS 450 001 September 22, 2014 The case of Daubert v. Merrell Dow
Pharmaceuticals which took place back in 1993 was a case where two children were born with birth
defects and blamed the Merrell Dow Pharmaceutical Company saying its drug Bendectin caused the
birth defects. The case played a major role in what was permitted in court as expert testimony. Merrell
Dow had its own experts and research to say that its product never showed evidence of causing birth
defects. But to challenge this, the parents had their own experts to say otherwise that in animal trials
the drug did in fact cause birth defects. One of the things that helped the judges to determine their
ruling was the Federal Rules of Evidence; this basically lays out what the scope of an expert ... Show

The fry rule was used to help determine whether or not the test on animals would be allowed to suffice
in luau of not evidence being known of birth defects in humans on Bendectin. The Fry rule is still
admissible in court but if it conflicts with the federal rules it is nullified. The two justices that
dissented on the case were Justices Rehnquist and Stevens. The next question what is the difference
between law, fact and discretion is that the fact is what happened, the two children were born with
birth defects and both mothers took Bendectin. Law is what actually a law is, the experts brought in by
the families weren t by law recognized as experts and it is judicial discretion that allows for the courts
to decide which is which. Another few term our personal knowledge which what the person testifying
actually knows. Hearsay what they believe to be true from some source such as someone told them or
opinion which is what they believe to be true based on their prior knowledge of the subject at hand. A
big issue in this case was expert testimony which is testimony given by someone believed to be an
expert in their field of study or practice that

Sustainable Fashion Essay
One of the most heavily discussed topics, in this last decade, is the environmental decay of our planet.
Diverse concepts have materialized in order to find solutions for the problem. Ecology and sustainable
growth have been confirmed to be the main solutions currently. Innovations for sustainable growth
include: creation of hybrid cars, recycling and minor discharge of carbon dioxide in factories among
others (Christ 23). Environmental awareness was also introduced to the world of fashion,
unfortunately, it wasn t very successful; lately there has been a change of situation and that is what we
are going to attempt to understand. For almost twenty years now, people have been relying on fast
fashion, a fairly new notion, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that it is possible to treat the clothes for them to simply not be able to receive dirt is eco
friendly on long term because that means we wouldn t need to wash the clothes as much but then those
same clothes cannot be recycled and that is not eco friendly Is it better to keep clothes as they are and
waste more energy or to treat them but not recycle them after use? It is a dilemma.
Finding an exact definition for the terms sustainable fashion . Green , Eco fashion to a name a few, is
close to impossible. We all have the impression everyone understands it the same way but it is false, it
has different meanings for all of us.
The word sustainability itself implies some sort of length, in the sense that something can last long, it
also. Here are some of the definitions people have of sustainable fashion: Quality items that stand the
test of time it is this concept of sustainability, symbolized by a timeless handbag that you wear again

Accessories are a very important part of fashion and should be considered so a good example for this
definition of sustainable would be the Hermes Birkin bag.

exclusivity but also because of how it is constructed and the materials

To understand the whole child you have to understand the pieces which create a whole and balanced
child. Development of social and emotional needs, physical needs, language learning needs, and
cognitive development needs all come together cohesively to create a whole child. The best way to
encourage and educate the whole child is through play because all needs for developing the whole
child can be met during play. The keys to creating a whole child play environment is by incorporating
age appropriate toys and materials into centers created by using development appropriate practices.
The DAP s (development appropriate practices) are created by investigating and identifying the child s
current stage of development. Once you identify where they the child is developmentally, you

the whole child s needs must be investigated and identified before you can create a successful whole

Compare And Contrast Cash Flow Budget Vs Comprehensive Budget
The first thing to consider in deciding whether a cash flow budget would be more useful than a
comprehensive budget, is why they are different. Firstly, the comprehensive is one budget for a
designated period, such as 6 or 12 months. All income is calculated as one total, and each expense is
calculated for the entire period. Whereas, a cash flow budget is broken down into shorter periods,
generally per month, it provides a better look at how money is being spent each month.
For someone with inconsistent monthly income, this is a great type of budget since it compares your
income to expenses during those short times. Sometimes you may have a budget deficit, and some
months a surplus, a cash flow budget would show you that, whereas, the comprehensive

The Pros And Cons Of Distracted Driving
Distracted driving is the number one leading cause to accidents. Whether it be texting, calling,
conversing, eating, grooming or reading. The National Safety Council, NSC, says that one in four car
accidents are because of cell phones. Initial data from the National Safety Council estimates that as
many as 40,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2016. That marks a six percent increase over
2015 and a fourteen percent increase over 2014. That is the most dramatic two year escalation in the
past fifty three years. In 2009 1.56 trillion text messages were sent and although we can t find out how
many of those were typed or received in a car, we would say most of them were. The NSC says
texting is involved in at least 100,000 crashes per year. Twenty one percent of car crashes, 1.2 million,
involve talking on the phone even with hands free devices. Distracted driving in 2009 led to half a
million injured and 5,500 killed, says the Department of Transportation. These facts led to the
conclusion that the brain can not perform two tasks at once. It switches quickly between the two, the
switch happens so fast that you believe you are multitasking and paying attention but you really are
just missing chunks of important information. While texting and driving the risks of getting into an
accident go up greatly. Per every six seconds you are using your cell phone while driving, of those six
seconds, four and a half seconds are spent with your eyes off of the road. Although 1,200 people were
surveyed, most admitted that talking on the phone and texting are the two most dangerous things you
can do while driving. Eighty one percent of drivers admit to making phone calls while driving.
Dialing, talking and listening are all dangerous but most accidents occur when you are talking or
listening because more time is spent doing those things than dialing itself. Texting causes a four
hundred percent increase in time with your eyes spent off of the road, meaning that texting and driving
is more dangerous. While not paying attention to the road many things are occurring and changing that
you do not notice since you are not looking or paying attention. Every day there are roughly 666,000

reducing VAS. 3 visits within the first week (La Touche et al 2013) appears to reduce the VAS by at
least double that of 1 visit. Therefore, the number of visits (1 versus 3) may be a modifier of
mobilization (dotted line) in reducing the pain (VAS) that meets/exceeds MCID (dotted line) so
patients may start exercise which in turn has been shown to improve function. As insurance approves a
median of only 5 visits (Horn et al 2016), this proposal will address gaps in the literature regarding
how many visits (1 versus 3) of mobilization will likely moderate the achievement of the minimum
clinically important difference in pain reduction. The number of visits may be associated with baseline

Racial Stereotyping
Being a young Caucasian woman, I feel as though society has stereotyped me as a coffee drinking,
yoga loving, UGG boot wearing female incompetent of thinking for herself. I am expected to drive a
new Mercedes Benz, throw a temper tantrum when daddy won t hand over his credit card, and have a
mental breakdown when the holidays come to an end because that means the infamous Starbucks
pumpkin spice latte will no longer be available. Social media has coined a phrase for these issues and
that is white girl problems . I prefer the term racial stereotyping . When it comes to stereotyping, no
gender, race, or religion is left unscathed. We all have been either the victims or instigators of
stereotypes at some point in our lives and I stand firm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walking the halls at school was an overall awkward situation as I attended a predominantly white
private school. It was not uncommon for my peers to make jests and snide comments about the oddity
of our relationship. I vividly remember the stunned expressions on the faces of my parents and
siblings as I explained that my new boyfriend was not white. While my family was accepting of the
news, I was warned to not mention my new relationship to my grandfather who would not be quite as
understanding as he would only be blinded by his outdated and old fashioned state of mind. Meeting
my boyfriend s parents for the first time was unnerving to say the least. I felt like an exhibit at a
museum, being observed and analyzed by a group of people who no doubt had already made their own
assumptions of my character. I could see from the skeptical look in their eyes that I was nothing more
than a vapid and privileged white girl to them. All of these outward opposing forces undoubtedly
created friction within the relationship. I found myself questioning if our racial differences were
forcing a wedge between our families and friends or if the relationship was worth the criticism we
faced. A few short months later, we called it quits, although not entirely due to the racial

I Am A Safe Haven At Your Hands
Imagine having a safe haven at your hands, any time of the day. It is 2013, and I am in seventh grade.
I am scrolling through Twitter in my dark room when I come across a page called Buddy Project, and
decide to read into it. As I am reading, with the light from my phone illuminating my face, I find out
that it s a nonprofit organization that pairs you with a person. It is meant to help you deal with an
eating disorder, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and mental illnesses. I am seeing all of this information
and I know I need to join the project. It was that one day in November that changed my life forever.
I remember my heart racing when I was paired with my first buddy. I found out that her name was
Abby; she was dealing with an eating disorder and suspected she was depressed. We both hadn t
gotten help at this point, so it wasn t truly beneficial. Pain and darkness were consuming our lives, but
speaking up didn t seem like an option. The next year, 2014, I met two new people. Their names were
Danielle and Jay. Again, mutual effort was being made, but nobody got the help they needed yet. I saw
blood curdling messages, but I knew it was my job to help as best as I could. I felt like I was drowning
and gasping for air, but my main priority was the other people. Even though there was a disclaimer
that says not to use the project as a replacement for getting help, that is what so many people did.

Jose Marti Rhetorical Analysis
José Martí s Stance on the Government s Role in Ensuring Virtuosity
Through the writings of José Martí, a reader witnesses his strong love for justice, virtue, and duty. His
writings illustrate, with fantastic diction, MartĂ s profound distaste for those who are not virtuous;
specifically governments that are not virtuous. The theme that is consistently found in the work of
MartĂ is his belief that the government is ultimately responsible for the acts carried out by its citizens.
He believes that the government creates the monsters which it so desperately attempts to eliminate.
And, in multiple essays, MartĂ makes clear that he believes the only way to prevent the acts of these
monsters is by the government leading its citizens to a life of virtuosity through their own
demonstration of such character.
MartĂ follows the several key trials that he believes provide evidence for the government s need to
accept responsibility for what is done by its citizens. In, The trial of Guiteau, the reader learns about
Charles J. Guiteau who was convicted in the killing of President Garfield. In this essay, MartĂ is
adamant about ensuring that no one forgives the convicted murderer for his deed. In one sentence
MartĂ states, He does not arouse pity; he does not arouse forgiveness; he arouses no desire to excuse
him and goes on to say, There is no place for him in men s hearts, only in their hatred (95). Yet, the
irony of his statements becomes evident through the sentence immediately following the latter when
MartĂ explains that Reason demands that his [the convicted murderer] life be spared because he
believes that killing the monster is inadequate way of ending power s nature to grow monsters... (95).
Thus, while MartĂ strongly believes that no forgiveness should be shown to Guiteau, he still believes
that Guiteau deserves to live because his execution would not change the reason why it happened.
Instead, MartĂ believes that only the government can prevent what happened by changing what caused
it. Moreover, it could be loosely said that he does not believe the Guiteau is responsible for the death
of the president; instead he believes that the government under which Guiteau lived is responsible.
Ultimately, MartĂ

Imants Tillers
Art Critical Analysis
Mount Analogue is a post modern artwork by Imants Tillers painted in 1985.
This work can be said to be a post modern piece as Tiller has utilised several techniques common to
this style. Bricolage is the creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be
available. In this case, Tiller, out of necessity, created his canvas board system.
This particular artwork is an appropriation of the rather majestic painting North East view from the
northern top of Mount Kosciusko by Eugene von Guerard, produced in 1863. Tillers has re
contextualised the work and given it added value for the present time. Mt Analogue explores ideas of
authorship and originality through his use of appropriation. He has ... Show more content on

Tillers has a distinctive artistic style that is easily recognisable. He has a strategy of appropriating
images from reproductions of artworks and other sources, and re working them. Each board is like a
grain of sand on a beach, or stone on a mountainside all go to make up the whole.
In painting his work, Tillers dramatically enlarged the scale of von Guérard s colonial image, creating
a new work in its place. It is of a monumental scale when compared to the original. The new sizing
meant that the image was at once more present to the viewer, giving the impression that one can enter
the landscape, but also more abstract, due to the grid left by the canvas boards. Tillers painterly
surface jar with the parts of the boards that don t quite match, forcing the viewer to see this as
appropriation, the illusion of space, the changes in perspectives.
Tillers copies the form and line of the original piece, following an organic, natural shape and line. The
shapes are irregular, yet the canvas board system distorts the overall image to give a muted geometric
feel. They boards give strong angles and create a sense that a grid has been laid over the environment.
The organic shapes create forms that are three dimensional, giving depth to the mountain landscape.
A sense of balance is achieved between the stormy sky and the rugged mountain tops. The texture of
the sky also contrasts with the texture of the landscape. The eye is directed by the caped figure s wide

The Conquest Of New Spain Summary
Any student of history has come to recognize the fact that history is written by the victor and in lieu of
this, research becomes essential to uncover where the truth lies. The True History of the Conquest of
New Spain, so ironically named, is a personal account for historical events leading up to the conquest
of New Spain, formerly known as the City of Mexico. The author, Bernal Diaz, was a soldier of the
conquering army who composed the document well after the events took place sometime between
1552 and 1557. Though the document did provide insight in regards to the victor s perspective, it also
served as a tool to rewrite the account of the conquered people. From what we know, the author
Bernal Diaz Del Castillo, commonly referred to as Bernal Diaz, was a soldier of fortune. Coming from
a moderately poor background he embarked on several expeditions under the lead of multiple captains

This section highlights that history has created a false narrative depicting the natives as a victimized
people, which they were to some extent but only in the fashion that they did not possess the same
technology for warfare, immunity of communal diseases transmitted, and they were not anticipating
combat. All other factors considered, the natives stood to be a potential threat. In regards to knowledge
obtained by Spaniards prior to arrival and knowledge gained from observation, it would be remiss had
they not prepared for battle. This argument is not to be misconstrued in approving their actions; I do
recognize colonization as an evil for both the reasons employed and its damaging effects, but rather to
change the narrative surrounding that of the native people. While they did experience a tragedy, I feel

U.s. Dollar s World Reserve Status
Throughout the 20th century, the United States has slowly constructed a global system of control. Its
superior military, weaponry and intelligence apparatus have been crucial in this system, but an equally
important factor has been its control of the global economy, and its primary weapon, the U.S. Dollar.
The dollar s world reserve status alone does not make it unique, but its deeply rooted role in American
and global geo politics certainly does. As Vassili Fouskas and BĂŒlent Gökay point out in their book
The New American Imperialism, Dollar hegemony has always been strategic to the future of American
global dominance, in many respects more important than America s overwhelming military power.
While military power is more visible and useful as a display, it is the dollar s role as reserve currency
that secures the domination of the U.S. in the global economic market place . [1] This system is built
on serious fault lines and its future is the most important issue for international relations today.
To understand how the dollar secures American hegemony requires some review of history. After the
Great Depression and World War II, the economic structures of the Old World powers were destroyed
and in dire need of reconstruction. Only America remained in one piece, a situation that allowed it to
decide how the new world order would work. As World War II was ending, representatives from the
Allied nations were gathered in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, where negotiations for this

Humans have inhabited the Earth for thousands of years and it is perceived by many that we are
among the most intellectual species on this planet. Although having lived on this planet for so long,
being able to distinguish fact from fiction has escaped the minds of many. People of today s society
are easily influenced by what is told to them instead of what can be proven. Believing in something
that has no scientific evidence is not only absurd but can be classified simply as ignorance. Many of
the erratic ideas that are believed by many today have originated in a time where superstition was
more popular than science. These beliefs appear to be proven by science, but in reality are not valid

this is where psudopsychology and fact clash. Replicating the methods is tricky for those who are

everyone to remain the same. Horoscopes and Astrology: A man who made the practice of horoscopes

1600 s was William Lilly. During his time he was seen as a great prophet, and became famous for
predicting The Great Fire of London through one of his hieroglyphic drawings (McCann, 1990). The
Great Fire of London happened on September 2, 1666 and it started out as a small fire in the bakeshop
of Thomas Forger destroying about 430 acres of land including 13,000 house, 89 churches and many
other buildings leaving countless homeless. This fire occurred 14 years after William Lilly predicted
one, and at this time London has been prone to having fires due to its infrastructure. Most of the
houses and other buildings were made of wood and highly flammable, causing something that started
as a house fire to a fire that engulfed a great majority of London. This hasn t been the only great fire
that this city has witnessed. Along with the fire of 1633 and 1676, the fire of 1666 has increased its
caliber of destruction primarily because of the city s construction

Theories Of Resilience
2.1. What is resilience?
The word resilience is derived from the Latin word resilire which translates as to bounce back , it can
be described as a dynamic process, encompassing positive adaptation within the context of significant
adversity (Luthar, Cicchetti, Becker, 2000). In cases where children have experienced trauma or are
living in high stress environments, resilience has been defined as the capacity to adapt and thrive
despite challenging and threatening circumstances (Masten, 2001). Resilience is not something some
children have a lot of , it is something that develops as a result of complex transactions between the
child and their environment (Sroufe, 1997). It is perceived as a crucial element in maintaining and

Key to promoting children s resilience is therefore, a greater understanding of these protective factors
that enable some children to be resilient (The Mental Health Foundation, 1999). There is evidence to
suggest that it is easier to change a younger child s behaviour than it is to change the behaviour of an
older child, indicating why early intervention is crucial (Smith, 2002). Considering the ecology of
human development framework theorized by Bronfenbrenner (1979) in relation to resilience displays
that interventions at multiple levels need to take place concurrently (Edwards et al,

As for people not understanding me as a writer like people may not understand the plight of the artist
or bartender I typically assume this is the case. I assume people don t know how many hours I spend
at meetings or doing research to get one 600 word story, because why would they? My suspicion is
that these lists are like trade magazines and are read primarily by members of the niche group (artist,
adoptive parent, bartender) more than they are by the intended audience. But if I m wrong, instead of
keeping insensitive, obtuse comments at bay they create an atmosphere of fear. Instead of saying
something insensitive, which may very well have been unintentional, people might decide not to

The Impact Of The 20th Century On German Literature
One of the few things that impacted literary movements in German literature in the 20th century was
Expressionism and what the Germans refer to as Neue Sachlichkeit , which means new objectivity
(Scherer, Conybeare Müller, 1906). However, historical events such as the first world war led to the
division of the nation into west and east Germany. Therefore, the historical impact on literature differs
in both sections. While the east reckoned with the teaching of Hungary philosopher Georg Lukacs,
declaring themselves as the communist resistance of Nazism , which led to the birth of Socialist
Realism (Bahr, Ryan, Jaeger, 2015), the political situation in the west paved the way for writers such
as Bertolt Brecht, who through their work felt the need to fill the cultural vacuum created by the defeat
of Nazism.
The following essay will therefore discuss the impact of the 20th century on German speaking
literature, after which it will analyse the responses of Bertolt Brecht and GĂŒnter Eich to the historical
and political events.
Bertolt Brecht in response to the first world war, which he experienced as a teenager wrote an essay to
the phrase Dulce et decorum est pro patria morin , a poet by the Roman Horace, which almost ruined
his pursuit for education at the time (Bertolt Brecht, 2017). In his essay, he described the recruitment
of young soldiers under the disguise of dying for their country as a cheap propaganda for a specific
purpose , arguing that only senseless

Auteur Theory
The French New Wave movement was a catalyst in the advancement of the history of cinema, it
marked a watershed between the old ways of filmmaking and the birth of modern movies. Films from
the movement broke technical and visual boundaries that transcended French borders and time. Today,
filmmakers from all across the globe continue to utilize the techniques set in place by the influential
auteurs of the movement. Most notably, the works of the founding fathers of the French New Wave,
François Truffaut and Jean Luc Godard, hold an indelible impact on modern filmmakers such as Wes
Anderson. Specifically, Anderson s films Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel

This concept became known as the Auteur Theory (Cook 350). New Wave directors implemented the
Auteur Theory to tell visually compelling stories from their own experiences and ideologies, such as
Truffaut s troubled youth or Godard s personal affiliations with Marxism and Maoism. Wes Anderson
on the other hand, uses his visuals, more specifically his unique use of color, to give greater and more
personal meaning to his films. In Moonrise Kingdom the recurring color yellow can be interpreted as a
symbol of youthful optimism while in The Grand Budapest Hotel, the only black and white scene in
the entire film is when the protagonist s mentor Gustave is shot and killed (Vreeland). Similarly,
Godard often experimented with color in some of his more political efforts. Red is a common color
found in Godard films, one that he uses schematically to pay homage to his native country of France,
but also in his attempt to symbolize his communist ties as seen in his films Pierrot le Fou and La
Chinoise. Anderson and Godard are aware of the importance of deliberate color schemes not only for
visual purposes, but in order to use the cinematic language to add dimension and subtlety to a

The Problem Of Homelessness And Its Effect On The Community
Homelessness does not only have effect on the communities through money, but also on their general
living. In a community people tend to struggle with security and trust issues, that is why we lock our
doors or have security systems, however that doesn t make us completely safe. Studies show that there
is a 77% chance that a resident will have rough sleep when they know a homeless person is nearby. In
big cities, homeless are often involved in street drinking and it can be a problem. They could be loud
or sometimes even violent while under the influence, there is a 53% chance that a person could be
involved in this situation. Begging is often a problem and is also disturbing the peace. While walking
or driving through a city there is a 325 chance that you can be begged for money or food. Research
found that while in the city there is a 32% that you will be begged by a homeless individual. Last but
surely not least is prostitution. Prostitution is a major problem in the homeless community. It is a job
that does not require a physical, drug test, or any prior experience and could still possibly pay. A
woman that has an issue with chronic homelessness has a 10% chance of becoming involved with
prostitution. All these problems take a toll on the community around them, including the residents and

Neurofibrillary Staining Procedure
Bielschowsky Stain Similar to the Golgi stain, the Bielschowsky stain uses a silver compound, silver
nitrate, as well as ammonium hydroxide to cause silver ions to adhere to the membranes of nervous
tissue. This technique is especially useful in when looking and neurofibrillary tangles and senile
plaque. When dyed, the color of the samples can vary depending on the amount of silver that binds to
particular parts of the specimen. The Bielschowsky stain stains the neurofibrillary tangles, axons, and
plaques a dark brown or black while the background remains yellow. Due to its ability to stain senile
plaques, the stain is commonly used to look at tissues diseased with Alzheimer s disease. Hematoxylin
and Eosin Stain (H E) Indicated by its name, this method of hystogical staining involves two dyes.
The first of which is Hematoxylin. As a basic dye, hematoxylin works as an acidophilic substance.
Because of this, it stains nucleic acids blue and purple. Thus, with this stain the nuclei of cells are
stained blue. The second dye, eosin, is basophilic. Any basic or negatively charged structures, like
proteins with cationic amino acid group, are stained pink. Of the two, eosin tends to be the
overpowering stain, coloring cytoplasmic content, muscle and connective tissues, erythrocytes, and
various other cellular content. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three Nissl stain dyes are acidophilic in nature and bind to nucleic acids. In addition Nissl stains
are used to see Nissl bodies, or the rough endoplasmic reticulum, in neurons. The Nissl dye has

but typically the stains result in the Nissl bodies and nucleic acids colored purple or

The Passion And The Passion
One of the most memorable part of Jesus life on Earth is known as the Passion. The Passion alludes to
the suffering and death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion on Mount Calvary. Jesus predicted these
occasions and made it clear to his disciples that he would suffer freely for the salvation of the world.
After his Last Supper, Jesus was captured in the Garden of Gethsemane outside the walls of
Jerusalem. There was a trial in which Jesus was found guilty and was then handed over to Pontius
Pilate who had him crucified. He was crowned with thorns and was led to the hill of Calvary carrying
his cross to be crucified. Then Jesus himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free
from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These accounts show both solidarity and differing qualities. Solidarity in having one Jesus Christ, and
differing qualities in depiction from 4 particular points/viewpoint. The 4 accounts are of Matthew,
Luke, John, and Mark. Matthew depicts Jesus as the Jewish Messiah, the fulfillment of Old Testament
hopes. For Luke, Jesus is the savior all individuals everywhere. He embodies forgiveness for others.
For Mark, Jesus is the suffering son of God who offers himself as a sacrifice for sins. And John,
present Jesus as the divine son who reigns even from the Cross. Instead of contradicting each other,
these representations complement each one.
All through the Gospel, the passion of Christ is already being predicted . In John 2:18 22, Jesus
predicted that the Jews would destroy His body (temple), but He would rebuild it in three days.
Moreover, in Matthew 16:21 Jesus plainly told the disciples that He would be killed and would rise
again the third day. When Jesus made these predictions, He verifies that He is the son of God, and
shows and tells that God is taking charge (NT Wright). Jesus foretold what would happen and then His
offer became

Flood Assessment
PURPOSE
The purpose of this report is to geologically evaluate the potential hazards for flooding in Hazard City.
This report will include a detailed historic and extrapolated Stream Gauge Data Worksheet, as well as
a graph of the Discharge Frequency Curve expected on Clearwater River. The report will provide
Hazard city with my scientific analysis, conclusions, and provide recommendations concerning
potential flood damages.
METHOLODOGY
The methodology used was to utilize the Recurrence Interval formula (R) = (N+1)/M, to determine the
recurrence interval and magnitude of historical floods provided on the Stream Gauge Data of Peak
Flood Discharges on Clearwater River in Hazard City. Also, I reviewed the flood insurance map to ...

Another reason for this scientific assumption is that the Downtown area, which is inundated with
impervious covered surfaces, will produce runoff, especially in the event of a flash flood, and will
meet in this same area along Clearwater River near Ralston (Keller, 2008, p. 269).
Information that was used to develop my conclusions were relative to the history of Clearwater River
such as the average normal discharge of 40,000cfs, the fact that the river can accommodate 55,000cfs
before flooding will occur, and that with every increase of 2600cfs the river rises one foot. For
example, this information helped to determine that four of the thirteen noted Peak Flood Discharges
listed on the worksheet were not at flood stage as the river is able to accommodate discharges less than
55,000cfs. However, nine of the thirteen Peak Flood Discharges listed on the worksheet were at flood
stage or drastically above; with the maximum rise of 17.77 feet above and a discharge rate of
101,200cfs. The average discharge rate of the top three noted floods per information on the Stream
Gauge Data of Peak Flow Discharges is 93,613cfs, which is resourceful later in determining the
extrapolated 75 year flood.
CITY COUNCIL CONCERNS
1. What is the recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City?
The average recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City is 1 in 7.14 years; with an average flood
discharge rate of 78,885cfs and a magnitude of 7. The typical flood in Hazard City

Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates Essay
Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates
Naked women have been in the front of feminist s minds for several decades. Especially when they
are pictured in soft pornography magazine Playboy. Feminists for years have been yelling that
Playboy is harmful to both men and women. Males around the country have countered that there is
nothing wrong with their Playboy, it is merely a harmless vice. The problem I see with Playboy is not
that it demeans women or subjugates them, and its not that it leads to violence. The main problem is
that it fosters unrealistic images and expectation in men s minds about women. But since there is little
we can do about it now, we merely need to take that first step and recognize Playboy for what it ...

I interviewed one person on each side of this issue, to get the token opinion that is popular on their
side of the issue. On this side is Ursula, an extremely quotable quasi feminist who makes a strong case
for her side.[1] Ursula sums up the feminist argument by saying, Guys see the idealized sex goddess,
how can women compete? First and foremost feminists argue that the idea of a naked woman in a
magazine is degrading to that woman in particular and to women as a whole; Playboy and men s
magazines in general make women out to be sex objects (Burstyn, 42). Playboy objectifies women,
leaving out the human side (Burstyn, 43). Feminists also say that soft pornography leads to hard
pornography which can then lead to violent crimes against women. Rick Heibert in his article A hard
line against soft porn says that psychologists have found that viewing soft pornography inevitably
leads to harder material (par 4). Others would take this a step further and contend that the viewing of
violent pornography then leads to an increased likelihood of committing a violent sexual crime
(Cramer 202). These articles would present statistical research backing themselves up, more likely
than not the Meese Commission will make it in to any feminist critique.
Feminists present a third argument saying that magazines such as Playboy lead to depression or
anorexia in women, especially amongst impressionable young women (Chancer, 85). There is little
argument against teenagers

Time Value of Money and Bond Valuation
Examine the concept of time value of money in relation to corporate managers. Propose two (2)
methods in which time value of money can help corporate managers in general. The time valuation of
money is the idea that money available now could be worth more than the same amount in the future,
because that current money has the possibility of earning money in the future. Think if the expression,
It takes money to make money! If you are guaranteed to have $100.00 now or $100.00 in 3 years, you
would probably take the money now. However, the $100.00 you could have now can be utilized to
make even more money in the future through investing. This concept is very important in the business
world as corporations are always looking to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cons * Corporations often use sinking funds to purchase back bonds, thus shorting the length of
interest payments for the bondholder/investor, which losses potential money. * Companies also have
the ability to purchase back bonds at a discount or par value, which is less than market value. So in
essence, companies wait for interest rates go down, which in effect increases the value of the bond. *
Creates a lot of ambiguity amongst investors. It becomes of game of beat the Interest rate clock, in
that you are uncertain as to when your bonds are going to be purchased back from the company, thus
never knowing the duration of your investment and the extent of your interest payments/profit.

California Spotted Owl
Introduction
The California Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis occidentalis) is a subspecies of the Spotted Owl. They
are found in northwestern California, western Oregon, western Washington, and southwestern British
Columbia. They live in old growth forests around 200 years old, preferring Douglas fir and high
canopy areas. They are described as medium sized, brown owls with white spots. The California
Spotted Owl has a height of about 1.5 feet and a wing span of around 4 feet. The California Spotted
Owl is a nocturnal bird whose diet consists of rodents, reptiles, invertebrates and birds. The lifespan of
the California Spotted Owl is around ten years. They mate for life and require a vast amount of
territory (National Wildlife Federation, 2015).

2004). The study found there was no significant increase in population during that time. The study
found there were multiple threats hindering the California Spotted Owl population. These threats
include habitat lost to past and current timber harvesting, loss of habitat due to fire and competition
with the Barred Owl (Courtney et al. 2004). Once again in 2011 a five year scientific evaluation was
performed for the classification of the California Spotted Owl. The evaluation conducted by Glenn
White found that the Spotted Owl population was decreasing by 2.7% per year. The recommendations
made by the review include population stabilization, adequate habitat and reducing threats for the
future. In August of 2015 a petition was filed by the Sierra Forest Legacy in hopes of classifying the
California Spotted Owl as an endangered species instead of a threatened species. As a result of the
petition, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting a 12 month scientific evaluation before
making a determination (Sierra Forest Legacy,

Duck Creek Watershed Essay
Background (1 ¶): What is the Duck Creek Watershed? What problems is it facing? What is being
done so far to remedy these problems? Who is working on this problem?
The Duck Creek watershed in Scott County, IA is currently facing high levels of Escherichia coli (E.
coli) bacteria contamination. This pollution has put the watershed on the impaired waters list for the
state of Iowa. The impaired waters list is a comprehensive list of every waterway in a state that has a
contamination problem according to EPA regulations (insert source for impaired waters explanation
EPA regulations). Much of the pollution that can be found in the Duck Creek watershed is coming
from nonpoint source (NPS) pollution. Nonpoint source pollution significantly contributes to the
deterioration of water quality due to the difficulty in identifying, assessing and controlling the sources
of this type of pollution (citation Wang). This pollution is caused by runoff moving over the land. It
picks up and carries away natural and human made pollutants, finally depositing them into lakes,
streams, rivers, wetlands and even our underground sources of drinking water (citation SCSWCD).
Examples of nonpoint sources in the watershed could include failing septic systems, livestock access
to streams, pastures full of manure, fertilizers applied to crops, miscellaneous urban sources such as
gasoline or oil, pet waste, and wildlife (citation SCSWCD). Another source of NPS pollution is that

Tension, Humor, And Foreshadowing In The Martian By Andy Weir
Tension, humor, and foreshadowing are some examples of elements that readers will find in The
Martian. In The Martian, astronaut Mark Watney is left behind on Mars. Because of a dust storm,
Mark s teammates believe that he is dead and left him behind. The Martian is a science fiction book
that gives readers an idea of how people might be able to colonize Mars and gives readers an idea of
what space is like. The Martian has an author that self published his book, and who used humor and
foreshadowing to keep his readers engaged.
Andy Weir is the author of the book, The Martian, a science fiction book that started out as an ebook
that he published himself. He was born on June 16, 1972 in California ( Biography. ). At the age of
fifteen, Andy Weir became a programmer for a national laboratory (BookBrowse. Andy Weir author ...

airlocks] continued well past its planned expiration. Sol [a Martian day, 24 hours, 39 minutes] after sol
went by, with the lone astronaut traveling in and out of the Hab [the habitat that Mark lived in on
Mars] almost daily. Airlock 1 was closest to the rover charging station, so the astronaut preferred it to
the other two (Weir 154 ). Since Mark is left behind. AL102, which is a sheet located in the airlock
number 1, is being used more than expected. AL102 is designed for thirty one sols while Mark has
been stranded for about one hundred nineteen sols. In addition to the previous example: We were six
days in when all hell broke loose, so that leaves enough food to last six people for fifty days. I m just
one guy so it will last me 300 days (Weir 8). Readers now know that Mark is going to last for about
300 days on Mars before he runs out of food and possibly die. Foreshadowing can be useful when
trying to keep the readers guessing about what is going to happen

Psalm 23 Exegesis Analysis
Psalm 23 Exegesis
Psalm 23 is a realistic hopeful passage written by David about the presence of trials in his life versus
the provision and relationship the Lord has for him. This Psalm is filled with metaphors and creative
imagery that is best understood through contextual knowledge. Much of David s writing in this
passage is about his struggles and trials, while the rest is essentially about the faithfulness of God.
Psalm 23:1 says The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. . According to Schmoop.com, the word
want means lack , meaning that David is saying he will not lack anything because the Lord is His
shepherd ( The Lord is My Shepherd ). David says in Psalm 23:2 that the Lord makes him lie down in
green pastures . However, in Israel there are no green pastures, in the more commonly associated
definition. There are no pastures that are actually green in Israel therefore it is only an allusion to the
metaphor of the Lord being David s shepherd. A shepherd will lead his flock of sheep to grassy
pastures to eat. This reaffirms David s statement that he will not lack. Him referring to God as his
shepherd and saying that he will make him to lay down in green pastures means that the Lord will
have him lie down (rest) in places of provision/sustenance similar to a shepherd leading his sheep to
sleep in a rich pasture (Know, That the World May, Green Pastures. ). David also says that God will
lead him by still waters : another metaphor of rest. In Psalm 23:3,

The Possibility Of Evil Analysis
We all like to look at things that appeal our preferences. But sometimes, appearances can deceive us,
such as a good deal you may see. One common example would be online shopping. The price that is
offered upfront is very appealing, all until it comes down to the final cost after including shipping and
handling, taxes, or any other unmentioned expenses. Or maybe a movie that has an interesting trailer,
but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of judging at first glance,
one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis. The main characters in the
short stories Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl and, The Possibility of Evil , by Shirley Jackson,
should have known this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary Maloney is a kind housewife this
sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and angry widow after her husband leaves
her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close
doors, she is the complete opposite. After reading both stories, the readers learn that even though
something may appear one way, it can turn out to be something completely different than we expected.
True colors are not always revealed at first sight.
In The Possibility of Evil, Shirley Jackson gives us a character who seems to be the town s sweetest,
most innocent, and is the longest established resident, but in reality is a nosy, dark woman with a

Missouri Geological Hazards Geological Hazards of Missouri Daniel LaBounty Geology 111C, Section 04MH Mr. David VanDeVelde July 3, 2015 Geological Hazards of Missouri Although many may not consider Missouri to be a hot spot of geological related natural disasters, there are multiple geological hazards which occur throughout the state. According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Geological Survey Program, the hazards most often occurring in Missouri are earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes and abandoned mines (Geologic Hazards). Although most of the current earthquakes in Missouri measure between 1.0 and 2.0 on the Richter scale, the New Madrid Seismic Zone extends through the southeastern part of the state. If the void grows close enough to the surface, the structural integrity of the surface material will eventually give way and a sinkhole is formed. These depressions can range in size from a few square yards to over hundreds of acres. The depth of sinkholes can vary from shallow to hundreds of feet. Although there are nearly 16,000 verified sinkholes in the state, the MGS caution there are a great number which have not been reported or documented. Some sinkholes in Missouri are known to be a depth greater than 100 feet though no exact records concerning depths are maintained. Located in western Boone County, the largest known sinkhole in Missouri covers approximately 700 acres. If a sinkhole does occur, it is recommended that a registered geologist or professional engineer be consulted to assist in the stabilization of the sinkhole. Filling a sinkhole, referred to as remediation, generally consists of removing all soil materials down to the bedrock surface and filling it with size graded material. Larger rocks should be used first with each successive layer consisting of gradually smaller grained material. Geotextile fabric covered by top soil will allow water ... In the 1500s, they had arranged marriages to suit the families. The first part of my speech that I am going to talk about is marriage life. In the 16th century, societies were bound together by religion. The dictionary definition of marriage is a relationship where 2 people have pledged themselves to each other in the manner of a husband and wife. The women back then had very little, if there was any, chance to choose who her husband got to be. The people in the upper social classes didn t get much of a selection, but the lower class had the chance to choose their future spouse. They considered it foolish to marry for love. During the performance of the wedding ceremony, they would get married by a father, referring to Romeo and Juliet. If the children had parental permission, the boys could get married at 14 and the girls at 12, but it was more common for the boys to get married at 21. When the weddings began, the couples were meeting for the first time. They would get married on windy days because they believed it would prevent bad luck. They would have a huge feast after the ceremony because it was customary. Women grew up believing that they belonged to their husbands like it was their property. Marriage was first established in the time frame of 1250 1300 C.E. In most of the ceremonies, women didn t wear white wedding dresses because it wasn t tradition then. They wore their best dress with a kirtle on top, which is the thing they wore over their dress. If they had money available, they could buy a new dress. Our Tech Support team has spent some time analyzing your Mission Plan s (MP). We are happy to see you using the Orbit Determination (OD) abilities of FreeFlyer. We do have some suggestions to help in simplifying your MP and evaluating your results. To recap, you have three separate MP s; the first is to setup your spacecraft and export the state vector as an ephemeris. Then the second MP is used to apply the Black Jack point solution data file to the ephemeris file using a Kalman Filter tool. The final MP then uses the Tracking Data Editor to generate a new Black Jack point solution data file from the original Black Jack point solution. Although, ... This is mainly due to the Kalman Filter step size taking precedent in FreeFlyer and wanting to ensure that the spacecraft propagation is synced with the Kalman Filter. o Also under the Motion Model you are using 22 Zonal and Tesseral potential fields and the Analytic density model. • 5. Phloem Study Guide (5 pts) 1. Describe the pressure flow model of translocation in the phloem. Does water move down its water potential gradient in this model? (4 5 sentences max.) The flow is driven by an osmotically generated pressure gradient between the source and the sink. The translocation pathway has cross walls that allow water to move between the xylem and phloem. At the source phloem loading causes high solute concentrations. Pressure decreases, so water flows into the cells increasing pressure. At the sink pressure is lower outside the cell due to unloading of sucrose. Osmotic loss of water releases hydrostatic pressure. Water movement is driven by pressure gradient and not osmosis. Both have redox reactions that establish H+ gradients across a membrane and couple the downhill flow of H+ back across the membrane through specific protein channels. A difference is that mitochondria uses NADH and FADH2 as electron donors, which are good reducing agents. Chloroplast uses water, which requires light energy since water is a poor reducing agent. Mitochondria require oxidative phosphorylation while chloroplast requires photophosphorylation. (5 pts) 3. Why is ammonium toxic to plant cells? Explain how they avoid ammonium toxicity. (4 5 sentences max.) Too much ammonium is toxic to plants at high levels. Plants assimilate it rapidly or store it in vacuole. If too much nitrate and nitrite accumulate it could also be potentially toxic. In order to avoid toxicity plants assimilate nitrate or ammonia to produce amino acids. Overall, the atmospheric nitrogen is reduced to ions that can be incorporated into organic compounds. Plants then use these organic compounds to synthesize amino acids. (5 pts) 4. • 6. Edward De Veere s Influence On Shakespeare Nearly ten percent of the most quoted lines in the English language are accredited to William Shakespeare. But should this be the case? Many scholars argue that Shakespeare is not the author of his plays. In fact, none other than Edward de Vere comes to the forefront of this controversy. De Vere was highly educated, had a biographical connection to some of the characters in Shakespeare s plays and had a similar writing structure to Shakespeare. The evidence is clear that William from Stratfor did not write his plays, but rather Edward de Vere did. De Vere was fully qualified to write the thorough pieces of work that were attributed to Shakespeare. According to BBC America, de Vere was highly educated and trained as a lawyer . Since a multitude of Shakespeare s plays deal with legal matters, the author must have been familiar with the law system, which de Vere was. It is believed that de Vere stopped writing under his own name in order to protect his family from the social stigma that was associated with the theater. Therefore, de Vere began writing under another name, Shakespeare. This theory is also proven by the fact that de Vere s work was similar to Shakespeare s. As stated in Absolute Shakespeare, they both used six line pentameter stanzas ( De Vere Authorship Argument ). The case played a major role in what was permitted in court as expert testimony. Merrell Dow had its own experts and research to say that its product never showed evidence of causing birth defects. Development of social and emotional needs, physical needs, language learning needs, and cognitive development needs all come together cohesively to create a whole child. The best way to encourage and educate the whole child is through play because all needs for developing the whole child can be met during play. The keys to creating a whole child play environment is by incorporating age appropriate toys and materials into centers created by using development appropriate practices. Whereas, a cash flow budget is broken down into shorter periods, generally per month, it provides a better look at how money is being spent each month. • 16. The Pros And Cons Of Distracted Driving Distracted driving is the number one leading cause to accidents. Whether it be texting, calling, conversing, eating, grooming or reading. The National Safety Council, NSC, says that one in four car accidents are because of cell phones. Initial data from the National Safety Council estimates that as many as 40,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2016. That marks a six percent increase over 2015 and a fourteen percent increase over 2014. That is the most dramatic two year escalation in the past fifty three years. In 2009 1.56 trillion text messages were sent and although we can t find out how many of those were typed or received in a car, we would say most of them were. The NSC says texting is involved in at least 100,000 crashes per year. Twenty one percent of car crashes, 1.2 million, involve talking on the phone even with hands free devices. Distracted driving in 2009 led to half a million injured and 5,500 killed, says the Department of Transportation. These facts led to the conclusion that the brain can not perform two tasks at once. It switches quickly between the two, the switch happens so fast that you believe you are multitasking and paying attention but you really are just missing chunks of important information. While texting and driving the risks of getting into an accident go up greatly. Per every six seconds you are using your cell phone while driving, of those six seconds, four and a half seconds are spent with your eyes off of the road. Although 1,200 people were surveyed, most admitted that talking on the phone and texting are the two most dangerous things you can do while driving. Eighty one percent of drivers admit to making phone calls while driving. Dialing, talking and listening are all dangerous but most accidents occur when you are talking or listening because more time is spent doing those things than dialing itself. Texting causes a four hundred percent increase in time with your eyes spent off of the road, meaning that texting and driving is more dangerous. While not paying attention to the road many things are occurring and changing that you do not notice since you are not looking or paying attention. It was not uncommon for my peers to make jests and snide comments about the oddity of our relationship. While my family was accepting of the news, I was warned to not mention my new relationship to my grandfather who would not be quite as understanding as he would only be blinded by his outdated and old fashioned state of mind. Meeting my boyfriend s parents for the first time was unnerving to say the least. I felt like an exhibit at a museum, being observed and analyzed by a group of people who no doubt had already made their own assumptions of my character. I could see from the skeptical look in their eyes that I was nothing more than a vapid and privileged white girl to them. All of these outward opposing forces undoubtedly created friction within the relationship. • 23. Jose Marti Rhetorical Analysis JosĂ© MartĂ s Stance on the Government s Role in Ensuring Virtuosity Through the writings of JosĂ© MartĂ, a reader witnesses his strong love for justice, virtue, and duty. His writings illustrate, with fantastic diction, MartĂ s profound distaste for those who are not virtuous; specifically governments that are not virtuous. The theme that is consistently found in the work of MartĂ is his belief that the government is ultimately responsible for the acts carried out by its citizens. He believes that the government creates the monsters which it so desperately attempts to eliminate. And, in multiple essays, MartĂ makes clear that he believes the only way to prevent the acts of these monsters is by the government leading its citizens to a life of virtuosity through their own demonstration of such character. MartĂ follows the several key trials that he believes provide evidence for the government s need to accept responsibility for what is done by its citizens. In, The trial of Guiteau, the reader learns about Charles J. Guiteau who was convicted in the killing of President Garfield. In this essay, MartĂ is adamant about ensuring that no one forgives the convicted murderer for his deed. In one sentence MartĂ states, He does not arouse pity; he does not arouse forgiveness; he arouses no desire to excuse him and goes on to say, There is no place for him in men s hearts, only in their hatred (95). Yet, the irony of his statements becomes evident through the sentence immediately following the latter when MartĂ explains that Reason demands that his [the convicted murderer] life be spared because he believes that killing the monster is inadequate way of ending power s nature to grow monsters... (95). Thus, while MartĂ strongly believes that no forgiveness should be shown to Guiteau, he still believes that Guiteau deserves to live because his execution would not change the reason why it happened. Instead, MartĂ believes that only the government can prevent what happened by changing what caused it. Moreover, it could be loosely said that he does not believe the Guiteau is responsible for the death of the president; instead he believes that the government under which Guiteau lived is responsible. Ultimately, MartĂ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This work can be said to be a post modern piece as Tiller has utilised several techniques common to this style. Bricolage is the creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available. In this case, Tiller, out of necessity, created his canvas board system. This particular artwork is an appropriation of the rather majestic painting North East view from the northern top of Mount Kosciusko by Eugene von Guerard, produced in 1863. Tillers has re contextualised the work and given it added value for the present time. Mt Analogue explores ideas of authorship and originality through his use of appropriation. He has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tillers has a distinctive artistic style that is easily recognisable. He has a strategy of appropriating images from reproductions of artworks and other sources, and re working them. Each board is like a grain of sand on a beach, or stone on a mountainside all go to make up the whole. In painting his work, Tillers dramatically enlarged the scale of von GuĂ©rard s colonial image, creating a new work in its place. It is of a monumental scale when compared to the original. The new sizing meant that the image was at once more present to the viewer, giving the impression that one can enter the landscape, but also more abstract, due to the grid left by the canvas boards. Tillers painterly surface jar with the parts of the boards that don t quite match, forcing the viewer to see this as appropriation, the illusion of space, the changes in perspectives. Tillers copies the form and line of the original piece, following an organic, natural shape and line. The shapes are irregular, yet the canvas board system distorts the overall image to give a muted geometric feel. They boards give strong angles and create a sense that a grid has been laid over the environment. The organic shapes create forms that are three dimensional, giving depth to the mountain landscape. The Conquest Of New Spain Summary Any student of history has come to recognize the fact that history is written by the victor and in lieu of this, research becomes essential to uncover where the truth lies. The True History of the Conquest of New Spain, so ironically named, is a personal account for historical events leading up to the conquest of New Spain, formerly known as the City of Mexico. The author, Bernal Diaz, was a soldier of the conquering army who composed the document well after the events took place sometime between 1552 and 1557. Though the document did provide insight in regards to the victor s perspective, it also served as a tool to rewrite the account of the conquered people. From what we know, the author Bernal Diaz Del Castillo, commonly referred to as Bernal Diaz, was a soldier of fortune. Its superior military, weaponry and intelligence apparatus have been crucial in this system, but an equally important factor has been its control of the global economy, and its primary weapon, the U.S. Dollar. The dollar s world reserve status alone does not make it unique, but its deeply rooted role in American and global geo politics certainly does. As Vassili Fouskas and BĂŒlent Gökay point out in their book The New American Imperialism, Dollar hegemony has always been strategic to the future of American global dominance, in many respects more important than America s overwhelming military power. While military power is more visible and useful as a display, it is the dollar s role as reserve currency that secures the domination of the U.S. in the global economic market place . To understand how the dollar secures American hegemony requires some review of history. After the Great Depression and World War II, the economic structures of the Old World powers were destroyed and in dire need of reconstruction. • 32. The Impact Of The 20th Century On German Literature One of the few things that impacted literary movements in German literature in the 20th century was Expressionism and what the Germans refer to as Neue Sachlichkeit , which means new objectivity (Scherer, Conybeare Müller, 1906). However, historical events such as the first world war led to the division of the nation into west and east Germany. Therefore, the historical impact on literature differs in both sections. While the east reckoned with the teaching of Hungary philosopher Georg Lukacs, declaring themselves as the communist resistance of Nazism , which led to the birth of Socialist Realism (Bahr, Ryan, Jaeger, 2015), the political situation in the west paved the way for writers such as Bertolt Brecht, who through their work felt the need to fill the cultural vacuum created by the defeat of Nazism. The following essay will therefore discuss the impact of the 20th century on German speaking literature, after which it will analyse the responses of Bertolt Brecht and GĂŒnter Eich to the historical and political events. Bertolt Brecht in response to the first world war, which he experienced as a teenager wrote an essay to the phrase Dulce et decorum est pro patria morin , a poet by the Roman Horace, which almost ruined his pursuit for education at the time (Bertolt Brecht, 2017). The second dye, eosin, is basophilic. Any basic or negatively charged structures, like proteins with cationic amino acid group, are stained pink. Of the two, eosin tends to be the overpowering stain, coloring cytoplasmic content, muscle and connective tissues, erythrocytes, and various other cellular content. ... • 38. The Passion And The Passion One of the most memorable part of Jesus life on Earth is known as the Passion. The Passion alludes to the suffering and death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion on Mount Calvary. Jesus predicted these occasions and made it clear to his disciples that he would suffer freely for the salvation of the world. After his Last Supper, Jesus was captured in the Garden of Gethsemane outside the walls of Jerusalem. There was a trial in which Jesus was found guilty and was then handed over to Pontius Pilate who had him crucified. He was crowned with thorns and was led to the hill of Calvary carrying his cross to be crucified. Then Jesus himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These accounts show both solidarity and differing qualities. Solidarity in having one Jesus Christ, and differing qualities in depiction from 4 particular points/viewpoint. The 4 accounts are of Matthew, Luke, John, and Mark. Matthew depicts Jesus as the Jewish Messiah, the fulfillment of Old Testament hopes. For Luke, Jesus is the savior all individuals everywhere. He embodies forgiveness for others. For Mark, Jesus is the suffering son of God who offers himself as a sacrifice for sins. And John, present Jesus as the divine son who reigns even from the Cross. Instead of contradicting each other, these representations complement each one. All through the Gospel, the passion of Christ is already being predicted . In John 2:18 22, Jesus predicted that the Jews would destroy His body (temple), but He would rebuild it in three days. Moreover, in Matthew 16:21 Jesus plainly told the disciples that He would be killed and would rise again the third day. When Jesus made these predictions, He verifies that He is the son of God, and shows and tells that God is taking charge (NT Wright). Jesus foretold what would happen and then His offer became ... • 39. Flood Assessment PURPOSE The purpose of this report is to geologically evaluate the potential hazards for flooding in Hazard City. This report will include a detailed historic and extrapolated Stream Gauge Data Worksheet, as well as a graph of the Discharge Frequency Curve expected on Clearwater River. The report will provide Hazard city with my scientific analysis, conclusions, and provide recommendations concerning potential flood damages. METHOLODOGY The methodology used was to utilize the Recurrence Interval formula (R) = (N+1)/M, to determine the recurrence interval and magnitude of historical floods provided on the Stream Gauge Data of Peak Flood Discharges on Clearwater River in Hazard City. Also, I reviewed the flood insurance map to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason for this scientific assumption is that the Downtown area, which is inundated with impervious covered surfaces, will produce runoff, especially in the event of a flash flood, and will meet in this same area along Clearwater River near Ralston (Keller, 2008, p. 269). Information that was used to develop my conclusions were relative to the history of Clearwater River such as the average normal discharge of 40,000cfs, the fact that the river can accommodate 55,000cfs before flooding will occur, and that with every increase of 2600cfs the river rises one foot. For example, this information helped to determine that four of the thirteen noted Peak Flood Discharges listed on the worksheet were not at flood stage as the river is able to accommodate discharges less than 55,000cfs. However, nine of the thirteen Peak Flood Discharges listed on the worksheet were at flood stage or drastically above; with the maximum rise of 17.77 feet above and a discharge rate of 101,200cfs. The average discharge rate of the top three noted floods per information on the Stream Gauge Data of Peak Flow Discharges is 93,613cfs, which is resourceful later in determining the extrapolated 75 year flood. CITY COUNCIL CONCERNS 1. What is the recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City? The average recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City is 1 in 7.14 years; with an average flood discharge rate of 78,885cfs and a magnitude of 7. The typical flood in Hazard City ... • 40. Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates Essay Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates Naked women have been in the front of feminist s minds for several decades. Especially when they are pictured in soft pornography magazine Playboy. Feminists for years have been yelling that Playboy is harmful to both men and women. Males around the country have countered that there is nothing wrong with their Playboy, it is merely a harmless vice. The problem I see with Playboy is not that it demeans women or subjugates them, and its not that it leads to violence. The main problem is that it fosters unrealistic images and expectation in men s minds about women. But since there is little we can do about it now, we merely need to take that first step and recognize Playboy for what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I interviewed one person on each side of this issue, to get the token opinion that is popular on their side of the issue. On this side is Ursula, an extremely quotable quasi feminist who makes a strong case for her side.[1] Ursula sums up the feminist argument by saying, Guys see the idealized sex goddess, how can women compete? First and foremost feminists argue that the idea of a naked woman in a magazine is degrading to that woman in particular and to women as a whole; Playboy and men s magazines in general make women out to be sex objects (Burstyn, 42). Playboy objectifies women, leaving out the human side (Burstyn, 43). Feminists also say that soft pornography leads to hard pornography which can then lead to violent crimes against women. Rick Heibert in his article A hard line against soft porn says that psychologists have found that viewing soft pornography inevitably leads to harder material (par 4). Others would take this a step further and contend that the viewing of violent pornography then leads to an increased likelihood of committing a violent sexual crime (Cramer 202). These articles would present statistical research backing themselves up, more likely than not the Meese Commission will make it in to any feminist critique. Feminists present a third argument saying that magazines such as Playboy lead to depression or anorexia in women, especially amongst impressionable young women (Chancer, 85). Propose two (2) methods in which time value of money can help corporate managers in general. The time valuation of money is the idea that money available now could be worth more than the same amount in the future, because that current money has the possibility of earning money in the future. Think if the expression, It takes money to make money! If you are guaranteed to have $100.00 now or $100.00 in 3 years, you would probably take the money now. Cons * Corporations often use sinking funds to purchase back bonds, thus shorting the length of interest payments for the bondholder/investor, which losses potential money. * Companies also have the ability to purchase back bonds at a discount or par value, which is less than market value. So in essence, companies wait for interest rates go down, which in effect increases the value of the bond. * Creates a lot of ambiguity amongst investors. It becomes of game of beat the Interest rate clock, in that you are uncertain as to when your bonds are going to be purchased back from the company, thus never knowing the duration of your investment and the extent of your interest payments/profit. Once again in 2011 a five year scientific evaluation was performed for the classification of the California Spotted Owl. The evaluation conducted by Glenn White found that the Spotted Owl population was decreasing by 2.7% per year. The recommendations made by the review include population stabilization, adequate habitat and reducing threats for the future. In August of 2015 a petition was filed by the Sierra Forest Legacy in hopes of classifying the California Spotted Owl as an endangered species instead of a threatened species. • 43. Duck Creek Watershed Essay Background (1 ¶): What is the Duck Creek Watershed? What problems is it facing? What is being done so far to remedy these problems? Who is working on this problem? The Duck Creek watershed in Scott County, IA is currently facing high levels of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria contamination. This pollution has put the watershed on the impaired waters list for the state of Iowa. The impaired waters list is a comprehensive list of every waterway in a state that has a contamination problem according to EPA regulations (insert source for impaired waters explanation EPA regulations). Much of the pollution that can be found in the Duck Creek watershed is coming from nonpoint source (NPS) pollution. Nonpoint source pollution significantly contributes to the deterioration of water quality due to the difficulty in identifying, assessing and controlling the sources of this type of pollution (citation Wang). This pollution is caused by runoff moving over the land. It picks up and carries away natural and human made pollutants, finally depositing them into lakes, streams, rivers, wetlands and even our underground sources of drinking water (citation SCSWCD). Examples of nonpoint sources in the watershed could include failing septic systems, livestock access to streams, pastures full of manure, fertilizers applied to crops, miscellaneous urban sources such as gasoline or oil, pet waste, and wildlife (citation SCSWCD). Another source of NPS pollution is that conventional urban storm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Psalm 23 Exegesis Analysis Psalm 23 Exegesis Psalm 23 is a realistic hopeful passage written by David about the presence of trials in his life versus the provision and relationship the Lord has for him. This Psalm is filled with metaphors and creative imagery that is best understood through contextual knowledge. Much of David s writing in this passage is about his struggles and trials, while the rest is essentially about the faithfulness of God. Psalm 23:1 says The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. . According to Schmoop.com, the word want means lack , meaning that David is saying he will not lack anything because the Lord is His shepherd ( The Lord is My Shepherd ). David says in Psalm 23:2 that the Lord makes him lie down in green pastures . However, in Israel there are no green pastures, in the more commonly associated definition. There are no pastures that are actually green in Israel therefore it is only an allusion to the metaphor of the Lord being David s shepherd. A shepherd will lead his flock of sheep to grassy pastures to eat. This reaffirms David s statement that he will not lack. Him referring to God as his shepherd and saying that he will make him to lay down in green pastures means that the Lord will have him lie down (rest) in places of provision/sustenance similar to a shepherd leading his sheep to sleep in a rich pasture (Know, That the World May, Green Pastures. ). David also says that God will lead him by still waters : another metaphor of rest. In Psalm 23:3, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Possibility Of Evil Analysis We all like to look at things that appeal our preferences. But sometimes, appearances can deceive us, such as a good deal you may see. One common example would be online shopping. The price that is offered upfront is very appealing, all until it comes down to the final cost after including shipping and handling, taxes, or any other unmentioned expenses. Or maybe a movie that has an interesting trailer, but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of judging at first glance, one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis. The main characters in the short stories Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl and, The Possibility of Evil , by Shirley Jackson, should have known this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary Maloney is a kind housewife this sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and angry widow after her husband leaves her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close doors, she is the complete opposite. After reading both stories, the readers learn that even though something may appear one way, it can turn out to be something completely different than we expected. True colors are not always revealed at first sight. In The Possibility of Evil, Shirley Jackson gives us a character who seems to be the town s sweetest, most innocent, and is the longest established resident, but in reality is a nosy, dark woman with a destructive ...
