Impact On Watersheds
Plastic bags, they re used everywhere, over a million are used a day and trillions are used and thrown
away yearly! They also can damage an area of land where the land can divide accessibility for water
flowing into bigger bodies of water, otherwise known as watersheds. The watershed that flows
through Greeley, CO is the Cache la Poudre River Watershed (CPRW). Watersheds provide us
drinking water, water for agriculture, such as farming, and they even help with outdoor activities like
canoeing and fishing. Watersheds are even a habitat for most animals and help our plants. Watersheds
get damaged every day, and people are the reasoning behind it. To understand how humans impact
these kind of situations, you must look deeper. Plastic bags are

John Donne And Gertrude Stein s Poetry Analysis
In poetry, poets can shape every component (words, syntax, rhythm, punctuation, etc.) to convey a
unique meaning. Small changes in such elements can have drastic effects on what the reader will draw
from the poem. Often, poets will rely on some tools more than others to try and convey their meaning.
Many times, the period in which the poet is writing will strongly influence how the poet uses these
elements. John Donne and Gertrude Stein are considered shapers of metaphysical poetry and modern
poetry respectively, and the way they manipulate their poetry reflects the ideas of their literary
periods. Gertrude Stein, as a cubist poet, plays with diction, syntax, and punctuation to impart
meaning. Meanwhile, John Donne, as a metaphysical poet, relies more on the use of imagery and
conceits to illustrate the purpose of his poems. Inspired by modern artists like Pablo Picasso, Gertrude
Stein was determined to create portraits that captured the present moment and transcribe them into
poetry. During her education at Harvard, Stein began to experiment with different methods to try and
achieve her goal. One of these methods that would strongly influence her future work was automatic
writing. Automatic writing consists of the author attempting to write down words without consciously
knowing what is being written. In a letter written by Stein, she rejected the idea of automatic writing
as writing for the normal person is too complicated an activity to be indulged in automatically

Liberty Bell
The Liberty Bell, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American bell of great historic
significance. The Liberty Bell is perhaps one of the most prominent symbols associated with the
American Revolution and the American Revolutionary War. It is one of the most familiar symbols of
independence, abolition of slavery, nationhood and freedom within the United States, and has been
used as an international icon of liberty. [1]
Its most famous ringing, on July 8, 1776, summoned citizens of Philadelphia for the reading of the
Declaration of Independence. Previously, it had been rung to announce the opening of the First
Continental Congress in 1774 and after the Battle of Lexington and Concord in 1775.
The Liberty Bell was known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was an accepted variant at the time.)
[edit] 19th century history, repair and crack
During the 19th century, the bell tolled at the death of Alexander Hamilton (1804), Lafayette s return
to Philadelphia (1824), the deaths of Adams and Jefferson (1826), Washington s 100th birthday
celebration (1832) and the deaths of Lafayette (1834), John Marshall (1835) and William Henry
Harrison (1841). [4]
In 1839, William Lloyd Garrison s anti slavery publication The Liberator reprinted a Boston
abolitionist pamphlet containing a poem about the Bell, entitled, The Liberty Bell, which represents
the first known usage (in print) of the name, Liberty Bell. [4]
It is not certain when the second crack appeared (the first after the recastings), but the bell was
repaired in February 1846. The method of repair, known as stop drilling, required drilling along the
hairline crack so that the sides of the fracture would not reverberate.
On February 22, 1846, the bell was tolled for several hours in the tower of Independence Hall in honor
of George Washington s birthday.[5] When the bell was rung,

The Lamb vs. The Tyger By William Blake Essay
In this essay I am going to be looking at two poems from the Songs of innocence and experience
works. These poems are The Lamb and The Tyger written by William Blake. Both these poems have
many underlying meanings and are cryptic in ways and both poems are very different to each other. In
this essay I will be analysing the two poems, showing my opinions of the underlying themes and
backing them up with quotes from the poems. I will compare the poems looking at the similarities and
differences between them and also look at each one individually focusing on the imagery, structure
and the poetic devices William Blake has used. Firstly I will look at the Tyger a poem about
experience. The first thing that strikes me about this poem is the ... Show more content on

The first stanza paints a picture of a dark forest at night with a fire and a tyger running through the
forest, here the writer is using his artistic skills to create a picture in the readers mind. The first stanza
asks who could make such evil in the world as a rhetorical question, I say this as you fear evil and the
last line says Could frame thy fearful symmetry also what immortal hand or eye shows that something
that never dies must have made evil, this being God. The second stanza ask who dares make this evil
and why have they made this evil as another rhetorical question, I say this as the last line again has an
important quote what the hand dare seize the fire ? The poem then go s on to question this evil more
and asks many questions but doesn t find any answers. But why is the poem about experience ? The
poem shows it is about experience with the consistent structure and rhyming pattern as well as the
vocabulary used, the poem talks about how it is hard to gain, comparing it to a fire. Put your hand in a
fire and you are likely to get burnt. The poem talks about life at the time it was written, with the
industrial revolution and jobs such as blacksmiths mentioned ( anvil hammer ) and also relates to the
other poem I am going to be writing about, The Lamb. The Tyger is hard to understand at first with
many underlying tones and hidden meanings, the poem is well structured and written

Film Differences And Cultural Differences
Some people delude themselves that having freedom means to disregard the human rights of other
people. Everyone has the rights to express one s idea, belief, and thoughts, but there is an invisible
limit to the expressions. When the expressions hurt other people emotionally or physically, one needs
to recognize that the action has to be fixed. This process usually happens as people grow up learning
how to socially behave in the communities. However, the human rights of some people are still being
violated in the public. One of the biggest stages of it is in the mainstream media including the
Hollywood. Hollywood is one of the most impactful media sources that produces global film works.
People live together and no one can live on their own in this society, and for this reason, everyone
should know that individuals have the responsibility of keeping the rights of others. With heavier
respect to be in such positions, Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid
stereotyping ethnic characters for three reasons: to respect the individual cultural differences, due to
the large impact of the media, and for the opportunity to obtain further creativity. At first, Hollywood
writers and directors should have a social responsibility to avoid ethnic characters to respect the
individual cultural differences simply as a human being. People fight for the rights of genders, races,
and positions still to this day, but they do not recognize that certain groups of

Essay Comparing The Floods In The Bible And Epic Of Gilgamesh
Sally Moolchan Date: 03/31/2015
Evaluation of the Floods in the Bible and Epic of Gilgamesh
There have been various flood stories recognized from prehistoric sources dispersed around the world.
One of these flood stories we are most acquainted with in today s culture is the Noah ark, which
convey a remarkable story of how god punish the world for how immoral it had become. The divine
accomplish this by flooding the world and crushing all the living being, saving it for Noah and his
family and a pair of all type of creature that walk on earth. Based on the evidence available at present
time, people can debate that the Genesis ark story was based on the Epic of Gilgamesh. The themes in
these two stories, such as the assigning of animals and humans in the ark, the landing of the ark on a
mountain, and sending of birds to see whether the waters had move away, clearly represents the
similarity between the two. Although the main plot is parallel between the dual, they are diverse in

In both stories one virtuous man, Noah from Genesis and Utnapishtim from Gilgamesh is saved and
selected to build an ark or boat. In the Genesis God decided to terminate everything but Noah, who
was a righteous man, the one blameless man of his time and he walked with God . (Genesis 6:9). The
boat was built and was loaded with the righteous man, their family and all species of the earth. Noah
had become the basis of redemption for the creation of people in the future. He symbolized the
resurgence and a new beginning of creation. He is also the representation of God s sympathy and
refinement. On the other hand, Ea informs Utnapishtim in a dream that he must help the human
population survive. Together these men are the signs that God and Ea need the moral humankind to
survive not a wicked one. By doing this they give the human race a chance to

How Does Masculinity Affect Women
We often see women affected by social norms and negatively represented but it s always good to look
at the other side of the spectrum. Masculinity can deeply affect and cause issues in boys and young
men. These issues are mainly emotional damages and the definition of what being a man is. On of the
ways to fix this would be to better represent masculinity and widen the spectrum of what a man really
is. First of all, the definition of what being a man is a central issue for young males. Paul Theroux
talks about always liking being a man in his essay, Being a Man. He points out that, Fiction
writing is
equated with a kind of dispirited failure and is only manly when it produces wealth money is
masculinity. So is drinking. This shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Rebecca Walkers Putting Down the Gun, she states that, When I asked him about making friends
based on common interest rather than superficial categories, he got flustered. You don t understand, he
said huffily. Boys talk about sports, like their matches and who scored what and stuff or they talk
about new version... Tears welled up in her eyes. I don t have anything to talk about. In this quote we
can see the emotional damages of expectations in Walkers eleven year old son. He has to pretend to be
someone he is not in order to make a conversation with someone. This shows the pressures of
masculinity on young males. The constraints of conversations has brought an eleven year old into
tears about not fitting in. This shows a small spectrum of the psychological issues and damages on
males. Paul Theroux also goes on to speak about the causes of the psychological problems males face
in Being a Man, he claims that, how can one think about men without considering the terrible
ambition of manliness?... It is a hideous and crippling lie, it not only insists on difference and connvies
out superiority, it is also by its nature destructive━emotionally damaging and socially harmful.
Theroux is trying to say that masculinity allows superiority and difference between men and women
which causes damage between both gender and socially harm them. The act of making men and
women seperate has caused a

Preserve the Luxury or Extend the Brand Case Analysis Essay
Case Study: Preserve the Luxury or Extend the Brand?
The case study Preserve the Luxury or Extend the Brand presents a fictional dilemma, based on a real
company, faced by Chateau de Vallois, a prestigious and famous wine producing estate in the
Bordeaux region of France. De Vallois is a family owned and run business; part owners are Gaspard
de Sauveterre a 75 year old majority owner, and equal partial owners: Francois de Sauveterre Gaspard
s son and the chateau s CEO , and Claire de Valhubert Garspard s granddaughter. De Vallois had fallen
into a slow decline under its previous owner, but Gaspard along with Jean Paul Oudineaux, his estate
manager, had restored the chateau and since then de Vallois had been steadily profitable ... Show more

The problem that this proposal introduces, according to her uncle Francois, is that it would add too
many unnecessary and uncontrollable risks to the chateau. Such risks include: the need to purchase
grapes to make the wine, raising concerns and possibly harming relationships with the negociants,
investing in a distribution channel, having to take care of the marketing, insurance, and all other
aspects that the negociants already perform for them, and most importantly, it may compromise their
Grand Vin and Puine wines as consumers and vendors perceptions may negatively change toward the
quality and reputation of de Vallois. Going through some of the details within the case, I feel that the
company would benefit from following Claire s general proposal, to create a lower priced brand and
enter a new market. My recommendation is that Chateau de Vallois at least invest time and effort in
researching the market and truly investigating the opportunity for growth. This benefit would be
present so long as de Vallois conducts a thorough market research before entering the affordable
luxury market to gain an understanding of the consumers needs and wants, the demand that is present
in the market for those young wine enthusiasts, and to be able to match de Vallois strengths with these
needs. They would also need to identify where they would want the new label to be positioned,

William David Coh An American Business Writer Essay

William David Cohan is an American business writer. He has written three books about business and
economics and is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair. Prior to becoming a journalist, he worked on
Wall Street for seventeen years. He spent six years at Lazard Frères in New York, then Merrill Lynch

Columbia University Graduate School of Business. (Source: Wikipedia.org)
House of Cards describes in particular the complicated series of events that led to the downfall of Bear
Sterns in March 2008. Its actual appeal, however, deduces from its complete and careful analysis of
the history of the firm since its origination as an upstart brokerage firm in 1923 and a gripping account
of the demise of Bear Sterns in 2007. This failure prognosticated a lot of issues that would eventually
stultify the firm, and the author puts forward that its deviation from various historical operating
practices led to its ultimate sale to JPMorgan Chase at $10 per share, down from over $170 just a year
earlier.
Cohan, also the author of The Last Tycoons, a 2007 book about Lazard Frères Company, gives us in
this book a shuddery, almost microscopic account of the 10, vertigo inducing days that disclosed Bear
Stearns to be a fragile house of cards in a perfect storm.

Amazon s Diversification Strategy Analysis
Amazon s diversification strategy Diversification strategies involve broadening the scope of an

Strategic management is a business concept that consists of strategy analysis, creation,

Reimbursement In Physical Therapy
A smooth process of reimbursement is an integral part of our professional growth. Physical therapy
profession is going through a tough time facing more regulations and scrutiny from
Medicare and other insurance agencies. Apart from advocating healthcare policy changes including
Medicare therapy gap issues, physical therapists should also get prepared to bring in excellent
reputation in the healthcare sector by adhering to the level of outstanding compliance which will
eventually lead to decrease in claim denials and reviews. An article written by Eric Ries, addressing

physical therapists in documentation training is very less compared to the time spend on acquiring
intervention skills. This makes the situation more vulnerable for physical therapists in making
incorrect decisions and errors in coding and documentation which will have a negative impact on the
total reimbursement of the services provided. Error free documentation is very vital in bringing down
the claim denials and review audits. According to Institute of Medicine (2012), America healthcare

Values And Values In Beowulf
Character can be easily identified through motivations and the decisions they influence. It also shows
what a culture or a person values as significant. The epic of Gilgamesh provides insight into the way
that Sumerian culture worked by focusing on certain aspects of day to day life. The same happens in
the epic of Beowulf, where the day to day life of each character sheds light on the values that the
Anglo Saxons prized, such as loyalty to family. The actions and motivations of characters in the epic
poem Beowulf showcase the Anglo Saxon mindset of the importance of family.
Beowulf s reason for coming to the Denmark is not simply to prove himself or to save the Danes out
of the goodness of his heart, but to repay his father s debt. Hrothgar points this out by saying:
There was a feud one time, begun by your father
... finally I healed the feud by paying: I shipped a treasure trove to the Wulfings and Ecgtheow
acknowledged me with oaths of allegiance ( Beowulf 459, 470 473) Beowulf acknowledges the debt,
showing that he feels bound by his father s mistakes. This gives the insight into Anglo Saxon culture
that mistakes and wrongdoings are not merely the responsibility of the people who make them, but
also their entire families. After Beowulf fights Grendel, Hrothgar speaks to him about how much he
loves him. He thanks Beowulf profusely for killing the monster, saying,
What you have done is draw two peoples, the Geat Nation and us neighboring Danes, into shared
peace

Bullies Need a Harsher Punishment

Bullies Need a Harsher Punishment Bullying is on the rise in the U.S.; therefore, more researchers are
attentive to the effects of bullying. There are extreme cases wherein victims have resorted to drastic
measures. Bullying is a widespread plight, which is having both emotional and tragic effects;
therefore, bullies should be harshly prosecuted and imprisoned. In arguing that bullies need a harsher
punishment, this research paper will closely examine the types of bullying and statistics, detail two

the law As of 2008, state laws on bullying, harassment, and cyber bullying varies; for instance, states
like Maryland and Virginia delegate responsibility to the State Boards and county Board of Education.
Maryland s code §7 424.1 requires the State Board to develop a model policy prohibiting bullying,
harassment, or intimidation in schools, and cyber bullying code §7 424 requires local boards of
education to submit an annual report to the Department of Education all the while not specifying
punishment upon said bullying or harassment ( State and Federal Information: Maryland ).
Unfortunately, nowhere in the law does it specify consequences for the bullies and their actions.
Virginia s code 8.01 220.1:2 provides immunity from liability for school employees and volunteers
from civil damages arising from reporting alleged acts of bullying or crimes against others if the
person in good faith promptly reports such acts or crimes to the appropriate school official
incompliance with specified procedures ( State and Federal Information: Virginia ). Like that of
Maryland, Virginia s policy does not specify ramifications for bullying, harassment, or cyber bullying.
In extreme bullying cases wherein victims committed suicide, why not punish bullies with a
mandatory sentence of 5 10 years imprisonment in maximum security? Then for repetitive bullying
cases of living victims, bullies should be sentenced to 2 4 years mandatory sentence in a minimum

A Research Study On Regenerative Medicine And Transplantation
Regenerative medicine and transplantation is the recent advancement in the field of scientific medical
research embarking on the evolvement of embryonic stem cells(ESCs)and reprogrammed human
somatic cells called induced pleuri potent stem cells(iPSCs) .Human embryonic stem cells were first
derived in 1998 by Thomson et al. and induced pleuri potent stem cells(iPSCs) in 2007(Thai Journal
of Obstetrics and GynaecologyApril 2013) The innate proficiency of the human embryonic stem cells
to differentiate into multiple cell lineages i.e pluripotency and worthy of self renewal score them as
invaluable sources in therapeutic and diagnostic field. However, there are some impediments seen in
the generation and utilisation of these ESCs as some countries believe that isolation of ESCS from
embryos is detrimental to the embryos and as they are not patient specific , auto rejection is observed
in some cases. (Thai Journal of Obstetrics and GynaecologyApril 2013) To overcome this, scientists
have identified iPSCs by reprogramming of certain somatic cells. Vivid progression in the remedy of
infertility will be possible with the transformation of germ cells from stem cells. The mechanism of
differentiation of ES cells in vitro and in vivo are not well inferred due to limited number of oocytes

Library Security Proposal
Introduction
Libraries are still one of the most widely used facility in America that requires everyone to be in a safe
and secure environment. Statics show that most libraries in the underprivileged areas, the police had to
be called more so than those who visited libraries in the least deprived areas (Wilson, 2017). The most
well known security concerns that apply to a library facility security is protecting the library staff and
patrons, historical artifacts, preventing the facility from becoming a dwelling for the homeless,
teenager performing vandalism or fighting and persons with mental inappropriately exposing
themselves or reorganizing books due to obsessive compulsive disorder (Quora. 2015). So, the
purpose of this paper is to design and implement a comprehensive Security Plan of a local Library

Boyz N The Hood And Menace Analysis
In the earlier years of the 1990s, African American directors such as John Singleton and Hughes
Brothers seemed to focus on race. More importantly the statistics of the majority of African Americans
and life within their community. These statistics include, at least 56 percent of black families headed
by a woman, 45 percent of black children living below the poverty line, and black unemployment
generally tripling the rate of white unemployment. (Quart 197). It was these figures that inspired the
largest movements about African Americans since the 1970s. A couple of these movies are Boyz N the
Hood and Menace II Society. The issue was that instead of the message of struggles in inner city life,
black history and heritage, and necessity for

While Many People Walked By, I Took Notes. I Noticed All
While many people walked by, I took notes. I noticed all different kinds of people. I noticed
Caucasians, African Americans, and Hispanics. From seeing these different people, I categorized them
to more noticing Caucasian men, Caucasian women, African American men, African American
women, Hispanic men, and Hispanic women. I saw all different kinds of people in different clothes.
Overall, most people were wearing casual attire such as a shirt and jeans or shirt and shorts. I heard
many conversations while people walked around. I heard people talking about where they should go

It could also tell you that maybe they have off Wednesdays or even they don t work much or at all.
Forty one of the Caucasians were women. This tells you that 63% of all the Caucasians that were
observed were women. This information tells you that only 37% of the Caucasians were men. This
tells you that men are less likely to be shopping in a mall than women. Most of the Caucasian men and
women were in working outfits or were very dressed up which made me think that they have a very
high job that acquires them to dress very professionally. With this information, this tells me that
Caucasians are more likely to be coming to the mall after work and that they have more intelligent
jobs. The average age for both the Caucasian men and women are approximately thirty five. Out of the
one hundred people that I observed, only 15% of them were Hispanic men or women. 60% of the
Hispanic men or women were men meaning only 40% of them were women. This tells you that
Hispanic men are somewhat more likely to come to the Monroe Mall then Hispanic women. 13% of
all the Hispanic men and women were in their work outfits or dressed up professionally. Out of all the
Caucasians, African Americans, and Hispanics; the ones that dressed up more professionally or in
their work clothes were the Caucasians. I noticed though, the people that seemed like they did the
most manual work from the look of their work outfits were the Hispanics.

Functionalism And Its Impact On Society
In this paper I will explain and argue for Functionalism. Functionalism allows for a scientific
approach to the mind body problem, while maintaining the integrity of mental and physical states and
attributing them to the functional roles they play within the bodily system. The main argument for
Functionalism is founded on the basis that it fulfills all of the requirements for an effective form of
Physicalism. 1. In order for a physicalist argument to be effective: it must account for mental states
being defined by their role; allow for mental and functional types to be defined circularly/holistically;
and allow mental states to be realized in a multitude of outcomes. Functionalism sufficiently ensures
all of these predicates. Functionalism is an adequate form of physicalism. Like other arguments for
physicalism, functionalism is based on the notion that everything that exists in reality is physical in
form. One of the main distinctions that makes the functionalist approach unique is its method of
defining objects. For example, many simple things are defined by what they re made of, such as gold
is simply Au. However more complex things are defined in terms of what their functions are. A heart
is defined as an object that pumps blood around an organism s body, regardless of what it is made of.
We cannot define a heart as something that is made of organic cardiac muscle, has valves, contracts,
etc. because theoretically, those components could be slapped together

Jack Welch s Transformation Case Study
When first looking at this article it is hard to pinpoint exactly what the core problem would be,
because the case study looks at the transformation created by Jack Welch over two decades. The case
study explains the changes made overtime that made the company become what it was by the end of
the two decade transformation. That leads readers to look at what could have had the most impact on
the company, and for this particular case study the impact came from the drastic changes made by
Welch when he became CEO in 1981. While the change was not terrible there are ways to handle it
better from the beginning instead of trying to fix it in the end. According to Ken and Scott Blanchard s
article about the best ways to bring change into a company there are six steps: breakdown
communication, plan your action, sell the change, collaborate smartly, refine for success, and give
your next change initiative its best chance (Blanchard, 2013).
Using the information given from the article written by Ken and Scott Blanchard, the change set in
place by Jack Welch did not follow all of these rules. For instance, the step of breaking down
communication. The article explains this portion as sharing what the change is as plainly and
completely as possible. After that initial portion of communication the article says executives should
be willing to get personal. According to the article, once information concerns are satisfied, people
will want to know how the change will affect them

As the global population increases exponentially, having passed six billion in 1999, the world
population is expected to be 8.9 billion by the year 2050. The worlds energy consumption will
increase by an estimated 54 percent by 2025. Energy demand in the industrialized world is projected
to grow 1.2 percent per year. Energy is a critical component of sustained economic growth and
improved standards of living. One of the major requirements for sustaining human progress is an
adequate source of energy. As the world s technological enhancements and standards of living

right and what is wrong. They might ve made mistakes in life, but if they are willing to reach it, they

It took courage and bravery to do something that Harriet Tubman did; to be capable of doing
something so extraordinary and something so near impossible. Harriet Tubman had achieved many
things, and had made a huge difference in the lives of others; along with the lives of people today too.
She is a symbol of great courage to every African American. Harriet Tubman was born a slave in
Maryland, but became an admired person; she is well known for being a strong leader, who took great
risks to make the lives of people who were discriminated against better. She faced many challenges
through her life; enduring many injuries, and was recognized for being a person who gave freedom to
her people. Harriet Tubman became a free slave who was determined to come back and to free the

Advantages Of Executive Compensation
Bonus plan or executive compensation is defined by Scott (2009, pg. 356) as: An executive
compensation plan is an agency contract between the firm and its managers that attempts to align the
interests of owners and managers by basing the manager s compensation on one or more measures of
the manager s performance in operating the firm Bonus contracts usually specify manager s reward on
the basis of earnings and share price. The rewards are usually under the form of cash, shares or
options. However, on the other hand, this strategy somehow pressures managers to manipulate
earnings to re ceive bonus at the end of financial year. Healey (1985) suggests that managers adjust
ment of accruals is affected by income reporting incentives of their bonus contract and that changes in
accounting procedures are associated with modification of their bonus plan. Even if earning for one

On the other hand, manager hopes that by doing so, in the years later, earnings will be less burdened
by those expenses. How can managers afford to do so? Given their right to use judgment, they will
deliberately choose income decreasing accruals in calculating financial numbers such as deferring
revenue or accelerating write offs (Healy, 1985). Big bath strategy can easily be excused as the
practice of conservatism principle which favors recording lower earnings if there is any doubt. Big
bath usually happens at the last quarter reports, in which managers have the clear pic ture of their
operation in a year and can confirm that their companies are not going to reach the earnings
expectation. Nikolai et al. (2010, pg. 513) suggest that expense charge that is most used in big bath

Christianity broadly consists of 2.18 billion people out of 200 countries who believe in the deity Jesus

incarnate form of God. The population refers to these believers as Christians. Christians hold the

Christmas is actually Christians way of celebrating the deity Jesus Christ, for that is the day they
celebrate his birth which occurred 2000 years ago. Even most non Christians at least respect Jesus as a
great moral teacher. In addition, few would argue that this one man has had more impact on the world
than any person in history. Christianity is responsible for the way our society is organized and for the
way we currently live. So extensive is the Christian contribution to our laws, our economics, our
politics, our arts, our calendar, our holidays, and our moral and cultural priorities. The concept of
universal human rights and equality comes exclusively from the biblical idea that all people are
created in the image of God. Christians even come into play when speaking about things that have

The Role Of Religion And The Rise Of Capitalism
The weber thesis is the argument that turned Marx on his head: Instead of capitalism causing religion,
religion actually caused capitalism as stated in Collins (pg. 47). Weber goes on to stating as the
Catholic Church was broke down during the 1517 by Martin Luther, he abolished the monasteries, the
priests could get married but also the Bible could get translated from Latin to German so the people
could read it for themselves. This meant that the priests were just like ordinary people and people
could find their own way to embed their beliefs of God within their own lives. Weber then established
religion was having a major effect in producing modern capitalism. Max Weber and Karl Marx are
established as the two well known theorists of the 19th Century. Many argue that there are various
comparisons between these sociologist s theories, however although Marx and Weber both examined
similar ideas, they noticeably came to two drastically different conclusions. This essay will go on to
critically analyse what the role of religion was in the rise of capitalism and discuss how Weber s work
was criticised by numerous sociologists e.g. Marxism and Durkheim.
Weber s theory very quickly became recognised by many, this was because it had shown an
association between religious ideas and economic development. He was not arguing that capitalism in
general was caused by Protestantism. He was just drawing the connection between Calvinism and a
particular kind of capitalism. Both the

The Issue Of The Environment And Globalisation
The past few centuries have seen such a drastic change in the world in terms of human activities that it
has resulted in an enormously significant change in our planet. For a better understanding, the process
which brings all people and communities across the globe come together to experience a progressively
universal economic, social and cultural environment is called globalisation. Thus, by definition, the
process of globalisation affects everybody throughout the world and also has a significant impact on
the environment. As said by James Arvanitakis (Arvanitakis p.166), the issue of the environment and
globalisation is the most pressing issue facing the world today . Globalisation is thought to be a major
cause behind change of climate that is experienced currently in the world. However, there are those
who support and agree with the notion that climate change actually poses a global risk and those who
do not agree with it. The debate on the extent of climate change being a global risk, which is called
climate change science, is one that is of high interest for various groups in Australia who either agree
with the view or disagree with it for their own reasons and each one has their own arguments
regarding the subject. Global climate change is part of the larger Anthropocene syndrome of human
induced global environmental changes. These include land degradation, ocean acidification, and

We Must Spend Our Days
One week a summer, for as long as I can remember, I wave goodbye to my mom through the car
window at six in the morning. I am inside my family s Subaru Outback along with my dad, little
brother, little sister, and a trunk full of camping gear packed so methodically that there is a six inch
square of sight out the rear window. After a five hour drive we will be transported from the neat
suburbs of Long Island to the forests of the Adirondack Mountains, where we will be greeted by my
Aunt Carol and her dog Baxter. For this week we will sleep in a lean to looking out onto Taylor Pond
at our favorite campsite, I 3. We will spend our days in the pond and our nights around a fire. Our car

omnipresence for a while. Although we may return home with clothes reeking of smoke and bodies
covered in mosquito bites, our trip to this other world will have been well worth it. On Taylor Pond
our isolation from society cannot be confused with actually being alone. We have loons, deer, eagles,
frogs, and the occasional howling coyotes to keep us company. The loons are normally the first to

The World Tourism Organization ( Untwo )
The world tourism organisation (UNTWO) states: tourism comprises the activities of persons
travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive
year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated
from within the place visited. Throughout this essay the concept of tourism will be discussed using a
systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper s basic whole tourism system (Leiper, 2004) theory.
The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will also be looked at through the
example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United States of America. 9/11 as it is
referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Four airplanes were hijacked by the Islamic
extremist group, al Qaeda, and carried out suicide attacks in the United States. Over 3,000 people
were killed because of these attacks as well as the tourism industry suffering worldwide and the
American employment and economy declining significantly.
The tourism system is complex. Tourism has been analysed using a systems approach since the 1960s
the idea that a single structure is comprised of multiple related and dependent groups. Key to this
approach is the idea of interdependence; because everything is related, a change in one component of
the system will affect other components in the system. Neil Leiper designed a basic whole tourism

Compare And Contrast The French Revolution And The...
There are many similarities and differences when comparing revolutions. Most of these revolutions
fall in around the same time and some had the same causes/goals. The American, French, and Haitian
revolutions all took place in a span of less than 100 years. While these revolutions have much if
common, they also have differences in the effect of these wars. The American revolution started in
1770 when conflict of the citizens and English broke out. Civilians opposed the English law and they
believed that the taxes imposed were unfair to the people. These disagreements led many citizens to
revolt leading to the protests in Boston and the Boston Tea Party. Many people in the colonies dumped
crates of tea into the water to prove a point that these laws and taxes were unfair. Their goals were to
have unity throughout the colonies and to be free from English law. After the French and Indian war,
the residents knew they had to do something about these problems. After this war, the Treaty of Paris
was signed and the colonies were officially free from England. Since the English no longer have rule
over them, they had to find a new form of government. This was the beginning of the Articles of

in just days before her execution. In One Two Three , the only literal action is Senesh s counting and
pacing her tiny cell. Senesh spends the majority of the poem reflecting on the passage of time and her
impending execution. At this point, she realizes that her life is almost over and she laments the loss of
her future. Though Senesh is physically losing her life, she s also experiencing loss of control because
she is no longer in charge of her fate. For these reasons, the poem fits the anthology s theme of loss
and specifically fits within the loss of control category. Senesh argues that it s worth risking your life
to support causes you care about. In One Two Three , the meaning behind Senesh s poem is clear: she
s reflecting on her death sentence and the loss of her future. Though her purpose

The Importance Of Personal Communication
A Few Kind Words I believe in the importance of saying something kind to everyone. I personally try
to give someone positive feedback, even when they do something wrong or just tell them that I still
believe in them when they fail. I do not see this consistently enough in today s society. I have learned
from personal experience how much positive feedback can actually affect someone s self esteem or
influence someone s outlook on his or her life. I will start with one of my personal experiences when I
was in Iraq for my first deployment with the Army. It was another typical end of a twelve hour
mission. The sky still had that orange glow that came from the sunset and collection of sand in the
atmosphere. There were the typical two soldiers up in the tower, one of them yelled down at gate
control that a convoy was coming in; it was nice knowing they were paying attention. Once inside the
Combat Operation Base, my driver parked the Mine Resistant Ambush Protect vehicles (MRAP) next
to the other MRAPs. While he started his after mission maintenance by checking all fluids and
cleaning out the air filters on our MRAP, I started dismounting the M240 machine gun and shutting
down all radios. Still standing in my gunners hole, which is on the top of the MRAP, as I waited for
the radios to finish shutting down, I start to hear that religious music that always seems to play around
this time of night. That music always seems to soothe me into sleep. This reminds me of how late it

Images And Images Of Literature
Illustration is a popular aspect in literature, and can be found in all genres and forms. Although it is
sometimes more heavily associated with children s books such as illustrated stories, there are large
amounts of illustrated work that are designed specifically for an adult audience. Images and text both
convey meaning, but they can also compete with one another. Image and text can work to guide the
reader on a desired path of understanding, or they can complement each other and allow for a greater
understanding. There are a lot of examples of image and text working together, but the medium can be
very different. From statues and sculptures with text engraving, paintings inspired by text (or vice
versa), prose and verse and illustrations, this relationship is seen regularly in the Romantic Era. This
relationship between images and text can be quite complex. Although the use of text and image
complement each other and create a deeper understanding and meaning, an image can work to suggest
a way of reading a text, therefore limiting the imagination of the reader, and insinuate a certain
understanding of a text/story that the reader/viewer may not have come to on their own. In order to
understand how text and image work in unison to create meaning, it will be beneficial to look at Lacan
s Theory of Meaning . Victorino Tejera explains that a a Lacanian approach to reading puts the work
of art, not the critic, in a position analogous to that of the analyst in the

They also can damage an area of land where the land can divide accessibility for water flowing into bigger bodies of water, otherwise known as watersheds. • 3. John Donne And Gertrude Stein s Poetry Analysis In poetry, poets can shape every component (words, syntax, rhythm, punctuation, etc.) to convey a unique meaning. Small changes in such elements can have drastic effects on what the reader will draw from the poem. Often, poets will rely on some tools more than others to try and convey their meaning. Many times, the period in which the poet is writing will strongly influence how the poet uses these elements. John Donne and Gertrude Stein are considered shapers of metaphysical poetry and modern poetry respectively, and the way they manipulate their poetry reflects the ideas of their literary periods. Gertrude Stein, as a cubist poet, plays with diction, syntax, and punctuation to impart meaning. Meanwhile, John Donne, as a metaphysical poet, relies more on the use of imagery and conceits to illustrate the purpose of his poems. Inspired by modern artists like Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein was determined to create portraits that captured the present moment and transcribe them into poetry. During her education at Harvard, Stein began to experiment with different methods to try and achieve her goal. One of these methods that would strongly influence her future work was automatic writing. Automatic writing consists of the author attempting to write down words without consciously knowing what is being written. In a letter written by Stein, she rejected the idea of automatic writing as writing for the normal person is too complicated an activity to be indulged in automatically ... • 4. Liberty Bell The Liberty Bell, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American bell of great historic significance. The Liberty Bell is perhaps one of the most prominent symbols associated with the American Revolution and the American Revolutionary War. It is one of the most familiar symbols of independence, abolition of slavery, nationhood and freedom within the United States, and has been used as an international icon of liberty. [1] Its most famous ringing, on July 8, 1776, summoned citizens of Philadelphia for the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Previously, it had been rung to announce the opening of the First Continental Congress in 1774 and after the Battle of Lexington and Concord in 1775. The Liberty Bell was known as the ... [4] In 1839, William Lloyd Garrison s anti slavery publication The Liberator reprinted a Boston abolitionist pamphlet containing a poem about the Bell, entitled, The Liberty Bell, which represents the first known usage (in print) of the name, Liberty Bell. [4] It is not certain when the second crack appeared (the first after the recastings), but the bell was repaired in February 1846. The method of repair, known as stop drilling, required drilling along the hairline crack so that the sides of the fracture would not reverberate. On February 22, 1846, the bell was tolled for several hours in the tower of Independence Hall in honor of George Washington s birthday.[5] When the bell was rung, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Lamb vs. The Tyger By William Blake Essay In this essay I am going to be looking at two poems from the Songs of innocence and experience works. These poems are The Lamb and The Tyger written by William Blake. Both these poems have many underlying meanings and are cryptic in ways and both poems are very different to each other. In this essay I will be analysing the two poems, showing my opinions of the underlying themes and backing them up with quotes from the poems. I will compare the poems looking at the similarities and differences between them and also look at each one individually focusing on the imagery, structure and the poetic devices William Blake has used. The second stanza ask who dares make this evil and why have they made this evil as another rhetorical question, I say this as the last line again has an important quote what the hand dare seize the fire ? The poem then go s on to question this evil more and asks many questions but doesn t find any answers. But why is the poem about experience ? The poem shows it is about experience with the consistent structure and rhyming pattern as well as the vocabulary used, the poem talks about how it is hard to gain, comparing it to a fire. Put your hand in a fire and you are likely to get burnt. The poem talks about life at the time it was written, with the industrial revolution and jobs such as blacksmiths mentioned ( anvil hammer ) and also relates to the other poem I am going to be writing about, The Lamb. • 6. Film Differences And Cultural Differences Some people delude themselves that having freedom means to disregard the human rights of other people. Everyone has the rights to express one s idea, belief, and thoughts, but there is an invisible limit to the expressions. When the expressions hurt other people emotionally or physically, one needs to recognize that the action has to be fixed. This process usually happens as people grow up learning how to socially behave in the communities. However, the human rights of some people are still being violated in the public. One of the biggest stages of it is in the mainstream media including the Hollywood. Hollywood is one of the most impactful media sources that produces global film works. People live together and no one can live on their own in this society, and for this reason, everyone should know that individuals have the responsibility of keeping the rights of others. With heavier respect to be in such positions, Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotyping ethnic characters for three reasons: to respect the individual cultural differences, due to the large impact of the media, and for the opportunity to obtain further creativity. At first, Hollywood writers and directors should have a social responsibility to avoid ethnic characters to respect the individual cultural differences simply as a human being. Essay Comparing The Floods In The Bible And Epic Of Gilgamesh Sally Moolchan Date: 03/31/2015 Evaluation of the Floods in the Bible and Epic of Gilgamesh There have been various flood stories recognized from prehistoric sources dispersed around the world. One of these flood stories we are most acquainted with in today s culture is the Noah ark, which convey a remarkable story of how god punish the world for how immoral it had become. • 9. How Does Masculinity Affect Women We often see women affected by social norms and negatively represented but it s always good to look at the other side of the spectrum. Masculinity can deeply affect and cause issues in boys and young men. These issues are mainly emotional damages and the definition of what being a man is. On of the ways to fix this would be to better represent masculinity and widen the spectrum of what a man really is. First of all, the definition of what being a man is a central issue for young males. Paul Theroux talks about always liking being a man in his essay, Being a Man. He points out that, Fiction writing is equated with a kind of dispirited failure and is only manly when it produces wealth money is masculinity. So is drinking. This shows ... The case study Preserve the Luxury or Extend the Brand presents a fictional dilemma, based on a real company, faced by Chateau de Vallois, a prestigious and famous wine producing estate in the Bordeaux region of France. De Vallois is a family owned and run business; part owners are Gaspard de Sauveterre a 75 year old majority owner, and equal partial owners: Francois de Sauveterre Gaspard s son and the chateau s CEO , and Claire de Valhubert Garspard s granddaughter. Such risks include: the need to purchase grapes to make the wine, raising concerns and possibly harming relationships with the negociants, investing in a distribution channel, having to take care of the marketing, insurance, and all other aspects that the negociants already perform for them, and most importantly, it may compromise their Grand Vin and Puine wines as consumers and vendors perceptions may negatively change toward the quality and reputation of de Vallois. Going through some of the details within the case, I feel that the company would benefit from following Claire s general proposal, to create a lower priced brand and enter a new market. My recommendation is that Chateau de Vallois at least invest time and effort in researching the market and truly investigating the opportunity for growth. This benefit would be present so long as de Vallois conducts a thorough market research before entering the affordable luxury market to gain an understanding of the consumers needs and wants, the demand that is present in the market for those young wine enthusiasts, and to be able to match de Vallois strengths with these needs. They would also need to identify where they would want the new label to be positioned, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its actual appeal, however, deduces from its complete and careful analysis of the history of the firm since its origination as an upstart brokerage firm in 1923 and a gripping account of the demise of Bear Sterns in 2007. This failure prognosticated a lot of issues that would eventually stultify the firm, and the author puts forward that its deviation from various historical operating practices led to its ultimate sale to JPMorgan Chase at $10 per share, down from over $170 just a year earlier. • 16. Values And Values In Beowulf Character can be easily identified through motivations and the decisions they influence. It also shows what a culture or a person values as significant. The epic of Gilgamesh provides insight into the way that Sumerian culture worked by focusing on certain aspects of day to day life. The same happens in the epic of Beowulf, where the day to day life of each character sheds light on the values that the Anglo Saxons prized, such as loyalty to family. The actions and motivations of characters in the epic poem Beowulf showcase the Anglo Saxon mindset of the importance of family. Beowulf s reason for coming to the Denmark is not simply to prove himself or to save the Danes out of the goodness of his heart, but to repay his father s debt. Hrothgar points this out by saying: There was a feud one time, begun by your father ... finally I healed the feud by paying: I shipped a treasure trove to the Wulfings and Ecgtheow acknowledged me with oaths of allegiance ( Beowulf 459, 470 473) Beowulf acknowledges the debt, showing that he feels bound by his father s mistakes. This gives the insight into Anglo Saxon culture that mistakes and wrongdoings are not merely the responsibility of the people who make them, but also their entire families. After Beowulf fights Grendel, Hrothgar speaks to him about how much he loves him. He thanks Beowulf profusely for killing the monster, saying, What you have done is draw two peoples, the Geat Nation and us neighboring Danes, into shared peace ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Functionalism And Its Impact On Society In this paper I will explain and argue for Functionalism. Functionalism allows for a scientific approach to the mind body problem, while maintaining the integrity of mental and physical states and attributing them to the functional roles they play within the bodily system. The main argument for Functionalism is founded on the basis that it fulfills all of the requirements for an effective form of Physicalism. 1. In order for a physicalist argument to be effective: it must account for mental states being defined by their role; allow for mental and functional types to be defined circularly/holistically; and allow mental states to be realized in a multitude of outcomes. Functionalism sufficiently ensures all of these predicates. Functionalism is an adequate form of physicalism. Like other arguments for physicalism, functionalism is based on the notion that everything that exists in reality is physical in form. One of the main distinctions that makes the functionalist approach unique is its method of defining objects. For example, many simple things are defined by what they re made of, such as gold is simply Au. However more complex things are defined in terms of what their functions are. A heart is defined as an object that pumps blood around an organism s body, regardless of what it is made of. We cannot define a heart as something that is made of organic cardiac muscle, has valves, contracts, etc. because theoretically, those components could be slapped together ... Jack Welch s Transformation Case Study When first looking at this article it is hard to pinpoint exactly what the core problem would be, because the case study looks at the transformation created by Jack Welch over two decades. The case study explains the changes made overtime that made the company become what it was by the end of the two decade transformation. That leads readers to look at what could have had the most impact on the company, and for this particular case study the impact came from the drastic changes made by Welch when he became CEO in 1981. While the change was not terrible there are ways to handle it better from the beginning instead of trying to fix it in the end. According to Ken and Scott Blanchard s article about the best ways to bring change into a company there are six steps: breakdown communication, plan your action, sell the change, collaborate smartly, refine for success, and give your next change initiative its best chance (Blanchard, 2013). Using the information given from the article written by Ken and Scott Blanchard, the change set in place by Jack Welch did not follow all of these rules. For instance, the step of breaking down communication. The article explains this portion as sharing what the change is as plainly and completely as possible. After that initial portion of communication the article says executives should be willing to get personal. • 29. Advantages Of Executive Compensation Bonus plan or executive compensation is defined by Scott (2009, pg. 356) as: An executive compensation plan is an agency contract between the firm and its managers that attempts to align the interests of owners and managers by basing the manager s compensation on one or more measures of the manager s performance in operating the firm Bonus contracts usually specify manager s reward on the basis of earnings and share price. The rewards are usually under the form of cash, shares or options. However, on the other hand, this strategy somehow pressures managers to manipulate earnings to re ceive bonus at the end of financial year. • 32. The Role Of Religion And The Rise Of Capitalism The weber thesis is the argument that turned Marx on his head: Instead of capitalism causing religion, religion actually caused capitalism as stated in Collins (pg. 47). Weber goes on to stating as the Catholic Church was broke down during the 1517 by Martin Luther, he abolished the monasteries, the priests could get married but also the Bible could get translated from Latin to German so the people could read it for themselves. This meant that the priests were just like ordinary people and people could find their own way to embed their beliefs of God within their own lives. Weber then established religion was having a major effect in producing modern capitalism. Max Weber and Karl Marx are established as the two well known theorists of the 19th Century. Many argue that there are various comparisons between these sociologist s theories, however although Marx and Weber both examined similar ideas, they noticeably came to two drastically different conclusions. This essay will go on to critically analyse what the role of religion was in the rise of capitalism and discuss how Weber s work was criticised by numerous sociologists e.g. Marxism and Durkheim. Weber s theory very quickly became recognised by many, this was because it had shown an association between religious ideas and economic development. He was not arguing that capitalism in general was caused by Protestantism. He was just drawing the connection between Calvinism and a particular kind of capitalism. Both the ... Thus, by definition, the process of globalisation affects everybody throughout the world and also has a significant impact on the environment. As said by James Arvanitakis (Arvanitakis p.166), the issue of the environment and globalisation is the most pressing issue facing the world today . Globalisation is thought to be a major cause behind change of climate that is experienced currently in the world. However, there are those who support and agree with the notion that climate change actually poses a global risk and those who do not agree with it. The World Tourism Organization ( Untwo ) The world tourism organisation (UNTWO) states: tourism comprises the activities of persons travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited. Throughout this essay the concept of tourism will be discussed using a systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper s basic whole tourism system (Leiper, 2004) theory. The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will also be looked at through the example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United States of America. 9/11 as it is referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Four airplanes were hijacked by the Islamic extremist group, al Qaeda, and carried out suicide attacks in the United States. Over 3,000 people were killed because of these attacks as well as the tourism industry suffering worldwide and the American employment and economy declining significantly. The tourism system is complex. Tourism has been analysed using a systems approach since the 1960s the idea that a single structure is comprised of multiple related and dependent groups. Key to this approach is the idea of interdependence; because everything is related, a change in one component of the system will affect other components in the system. Most of these revolutions fall in around the same time and some had the same causes/goals. The American, French, and Haitian revolutions all took place in a span of less than 100 years. While these revolutions have much if common, they also have differences in the effect of these wars. The American revolution started in 1770 when conflict of the citizens and English broke out. Civilians opposed the English law and they believed that the taxes imposed were unfair to the people. These disagreements led many citizens to revolt leading to the protests in Boston and the Boston Tea Party. Many people in the colonies dumped crates of tea into the water to prove a point that these laws and taxes were unfair. Their goals were to have unity throughout the colonies and to be free from English law. After the French and Indian war, the residents knew they had to do something about these problems. Senesh was captured by the Hungarian army while she was on a mission with the Israeli paratroopers to rescue Hungarian Jews being deported to Auschwitz. Though she was brutally tortured, Senesh never gave the Hungarians information about her mission in order to protect the locations of her fellow soldiers who were still rescuing Hungarian Jews. Found guilty of treason, Senesh was executed on November 7, 1944 by a German firing squad. While she was in prison, Senesh kept a diary, which was published in Hebrew in 1946. Her poem, One Two Three , was written in just days before her execution. In One Two Three , the only literal action is Senesh s counting and pacing her tiny cell. Senesh spends the majority of the poem reflecting on the passage of time and her impending execution. At this point, she realizes that her life is almost over and she laments the loss of her future. Though Senesh is physically losing her life, she s also experiencing loss of control because she is no longer in charge of her fate. For these reasons, the poem fits the anthology s theme of loss and specifically fits within the loss of control category. I have learned from personal experience how much positive feedback can actually affect someone s self esteem or influence someone s outlook on his or her life. I will start with one of my personal experiences when I was in Iraq for my first deployment with the Army. It was another typical end of a twelve hour mission. The sky still had that orange glow that came from the sunset and collection of sand in the atmosphere. There were the typical two soldiers up in the tower, one of them yelled down at gate control that a convoy was coming in; it was nice knowing they were paying attention. • 44. Images And Images Of Literature Illustration is a popular aspect in literature, and can be found in all genres and forms. Although it is sometimes more heavily associated with children s books such as illustrated stories, there are large amounts of illustrated work that are designed specifically for an adult audience. Images and text both convey meaning, but they can also compete with one another. Image and text can work to guide the reader on a desired path of understanding, or they can complement each other and allow for a greater understanding. There are a lot of examples of image and text working together, but the medium can be very different. From statues and sculptures with text engraving, paintings inspired by text (or vice versa), prose and verse and illustrations, this relationship is seen regularly in the Romantic Era. This relationship between images and text can be quite complex. Although the use of text and image complement each other and create a deeper understanding and meaning, an image can work to suggest a way of reading a text, therefore limiting the imagination of the reader, and insinuate a certain understanding of a text/story that the reader/viewer may not have come to on their own. In order to understand how text and image work in unison to create meaning, it will be beneficial to look at Lacan s Theory of Meaning .
