Guilt And Shame By Bernhard Schlink
Guilt is defined as an emotion of regret or accountability for some offense, which drives a person to
make amends in some way. Shame is defined as a painful emotion arising from the consciousness of
committing something immoral. The Reader, by Bernhard Schlink, is a novel that is filled with various
examples of guilt and shame. Guilt is especially important because the symbolic meaning of the story
contains illustrations of both collective and personal guilt. This emphasis on guilt begs the question:
How can the novel, The Reader, be seen as a study in collective and personal guilt? The Reader can be
seen as a study in collective and personal guilt because it shows how Hanna and Michael represent the
guilt of Germans communally and individually.
Hanna Schmitz, former SS guard at Auschwitz and Michael s adult lover, represents old Germany and
the guilt of Germany as a whole. Hanna is an authoritative, cold, efficient, and ignorant woman that
constantly struggles due to her illiteracy. In the beginning of the story, Hanna helps Michael home
when he is ill, even though she does not know him. Michael later returns to Hanna s apartment to
thank her for saving him and Hanna seduces him. Hanna and Michael begin to have an affair that
persists for several months. Throughout these months, Hanna insists on Michael reading to her before
they have sex. Then one day, Hanna disappears without a trace. Later in the story, when Michael is
attending a court case, it is revealed that Hanna

Short Story Marigolds
Eugenia Collier uses diction and imagery to create the voice of her narrator, Lizabeth, in her short
story Marigolds. Lizabeth has a negative tone in the beginning of the story. The imagery she stated,
When I think of my hometown, all that I seem to remember is dust the brown crumbly dust of late
summer arid, sterile dust that gets into the eyes and makes them water (Collier)... proves that she is
unhappy to be in that place. There are a lot of reasons why she is unhappy in that place and one of
them is poverty. Lizabeth hinted that one of their struggles was poverty when she said Poverty is a
cage in which we all are trapped, and our hatred of it was still the vague, undirected restlessness of the
zoo bred flamingo who knows that nature created him to fly flee (Collier). Lizabeth established the
juxtaposition when she said, And one other thing I remember, another incongruency of memory a
brilliant splash of sunny yellow against the dust Miss Lottie s marigolds (Collier). She is stating that
Miss Lottie s marigolds were the only beautiful thing in that unsightly place. Those marigolds did not
give her a pleasant feeling because she thought that they were too beautiful to exist in that kind of
place. Miss Lottie was believed to be a witch when Lizabeth was young but she knows she is mature
enough not believe in those things anymore. Their first encounter resulted in Lizabeth and her
company destroying some of Miss Lottie s marigolds and they left Miss Lottie and John Burke, her
son, enraged. When she got home and went to her room hoping to rest after a long day, she overheard
her parents talking. She heard her dad say, Twenty two years, Maybelle, twenty two years...and I got
nothing for you, nothing, nothing (Collier). She then realized that her father got fired from his job and
was not taking it too well after what they have been through. Maybelle, Lizabeth s mother, attempted
to comfort her husband by saying, Honey, you took good care of us when you had it. Ain t nobody got
nothing nowadays (Collier). After a while of discussion Lizabeth s father began to sob, loudly and
painfully. At this point, LIzabeth is confused because she never heard a man cry before. She did not
even know that men cry.

An Objective For The Week 5 Reflection Paper
An objective for the week 5 reflection paper includes highlighting and summarizing some of the most
distinctive core competencies that were galvanized as the result of exposure to course materials. The
topics discussed over the previous 4 weeks have helped to identify and distinguish between various
key leadership elements which stand to benefit tremendously from developing a conscious awareness
pertaining to the concepts themselves. Throughout life, individuals must overcome a seemingly
infinite array of obstacles and challenges, for some, succumbing to failures were never an option.
While taking everything into consideration, many realizations began to occur, the following paper
reveals the importance for having leadership and conflict resolution strategies in place and available at
a moment s notice. Personal and professional environments are always subject to change, one day a
person might be washing dishes for a restaurant and instantaneously becomes wealthy and decides to
purchase the restaurant. Examples like these are all too common, also reflective of challenges and
obstacles currently faced with on a daily basis. Last year, a professional job title comprised of an
ownership role for a car dealership, last week entailed a reserve insurance agent for Farmers Insurance
Group, and as of Friday, the money was paid to the current agency owner whereby a deal transpired to
purchase the entire agency lock, stock, and barrel. The agency acquisition date is set

Examples Of Satire Essay
Stupidity or Satire?
Laughter can be an instinctive expression of lively amusement although we don t usually realise the
offence of the joke we are laughing at. Tamara discusses modern satire and its position in humanity.
Sometimes the world we live in can be too blinded or careless to really discover the reasons why we
laugh at satirical comedy. Satire can be like a dream. When were in the dream we remember bits of
details and when we wake up we don t realise what our dream was about in the first place. Satire can
relate to this because as were watching satirical things were able to laugh at the subject of mockery
even when it can be so stupid, yet when we walk away from it we forget what we watch and keep
living our lives. TV shows such as Summer Heights is well known and prominent to a lot of people

After a numerous amount of months, a record producer noticed him and
Charles had his first album: Confession Blues. Afterward Charles went on the road for a few years. He
played at bars around the country. It was known by musicians as the chitlin circuit.
Soon Charles stopped imitating other musicians, as he had been doing up until this point, and began to
combine gospel and rhythm and blues, and, in doing so, created soul. He is still called the Genius of
Soul today. In
1955 Charles made recorded I ve Got a Women , and made history. It helped pave the way for soul for
years to come.
In the 1960 s Charles recorded I Can t Stop Loving You (a piece of country music) with a large
orchestra and his own voice. This song, like his others, was loved by the American people.
Unfortunately, in the 1940 s Charles became addicted to heroin, and in
1964 he was arrested for it. While he was awaiting his trial he went to an award ceremony in which
his son, Ray Jr. was receiving an award. He had to leave before his son received his award, so Ray Jr.
cried. Charles, seeing this, realized that his son would be very hurt if someone yelled out that
Charles was a drug addict, so he went to the hospital and went cold turkey on drugs. After a year, he
was over the addiction.
Charles is a man of extremes. He was impatient, and he would not listen to complaints. When he was

Essay On Homosexuality In Australia
The gay population of Cairns moved into the 1980 s with optimism. Though Joh Bjelke Petersen
seemed destined to rule forever, in other Australian jurisdictions, (South Australia, Victoria and the
A.C.T.) the decriminalisation of homosexuality saw increased tolerance and open discussion of a topic
previously deemed unsuitable for polite conversation, The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name. In
1979 Sydney held its first Gay Mardi Gras, gay clubs operated openly, if discreetly, in Brisbane, and
more and more people openly identified as gay, even in Cairns.
In June 1981, the Sydney Star Observer ran the first Australian article on the wave of deaths from
pneumonia and rare cancers, and by December of that year the mainstream press picked up on ...

Perception of fear among female prisoners housed in a maximum security prison
Operational definition of fear The synonyms of fear is terror or horror. It can also classified as
anticipation of some known or unknown danger. This anticipation makes us afraid. Sometimes some
special feelings or unpleasant memories are also associated that results in fear. Fear can also be
associated with the anticipation of physical and/or mental pain.
The female inmates in a prison are in the close confines of a specific area. They are residing with
unknown people and in hostile conditions. The prison inmates may or may not be their friends.
Female prisoners may face many dangers in the form of sexual assaults, indifference of inmates,
psychological and mental pressure along with the pain of separation from their loved ones. Here we
can apply the concept of operational fear to the minds of millions of female inmates living in prisons.
Their fear from other inmates is not unfounded.
Open ended questions are the questions that have no specific answer. Here the person answering the
questions has the liberty to answer the question as he/she feels like. Open ended questions give us
insight about the mindset of the person as well as their experiences. These questions provide a wealth
of information about the perceptions of the inmates. They are interactive and interpretative in nature.

Video Games As An Art Form Essay
A Case for Video Games as an Art Form Video games are a profound art form, incorporating trades
and mediums that span the artistic spectrum and beyond. To refute this is to ignore decades of rich
history, disregard hours of artful labor, and discredit the immeasurable devotion of many whom
worked to perfect this art form. Although video games may not suit every individual s tastes, one
cannot claim with credibility they possess no artistic merit. My awareness of this concept is
longstanding. From my most juvenile years, I have been captivated by this genre. To be a child and
hold in the palm of your hand what feels like a window to an exhilarating adventure in a limitless
universe is, in short, a riveting experience. However, the rush is not exclusive to children. This digital
magic is a far cry from tag and hopscotch. An enthralling escape from our mundane world entrances a
wide demographic, earning it a greater value than a mere downtime occupant. Video games have
developed a belittling reputation that they do not deserve. The voluntarily ignorant have unjustly
assigned them this connotation. Naturally, with any change, resistance occurs. The innovation that
video games introduced to the arts is unprecedented. That said, it is evident that not all artists are
willing to accept something so radically novel. Even so, why is it that any creator would not welcome
a new creative realm with less limits than ever before? There is but one discernable answer:
Intimidation. It is

Bill Of Right At The International Level
Bill of rights
The idea of a bill of right at the international level was conceived at the time of framing the charter of
the U.N.at the San Francisco conference in 1945, at which the organization was established. President
Truman of the US in his closing speech to the conference stated that under the charter we have good
reason to expect the framing of an international bill of rights, acceptable to all the nations involved.
That bill of rights will be as much part of international life as our own bill of rights is a part of our
constitution. (1) International bill of human rights consists of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF
HUMAN RIGHTS (UDHR), the international covenant on civil and political rights along with its
protocol and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also emphasized the need for international protection of human rights. The conscience of human
beings worldwide was shocked by Mussolini s fascist government of Italy, the Spanish civil war and
the Franco regime. The most significant formulation of this vision of a new international legal order
was the message to the US congress, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in January 1941 in which he
referred to the four freedoms : freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from
want and freedom from fear which were among the foundations upon which planning for the united
nation was started. In 1945 at the San Francisco Conference, where the UN Charter was finally
drafted, several actors contributed to the greater emphasis on human rights. Although the suggestion
of creating a commission on human rights was controversial among the great powers, the US finally
achieved its adoption. Thus, a commission on human rights was the only one explicitly mentioned in
the UN charter, and consequently, the human rights issue had got a flying start within the United
Nations. United nation was formally established on 24th October 1945.Human rights issue were
assigned to the economic and social council (ECOSOC), at the first session of which the nuclear
commission on human rights was set up. This commission met in April/May 1946 and made
recommendation on composition and terms of reference. These matters were finally decided by the
ECOSOC s second session, in which full

beginning Andre Agassi narrates about the family s more or less tense relationship to each other and
how the tennis player s career is affected of his social heritage. This is the three main themes Andre
Agassi gets around in his story about his early life.
First, Andre Agassi tells about the grandmother s relationship with the father, the mother and himself.

Their abandonment of stars leads to their early demise as they attempted to control their own lives.
Stars are known for their beauty and dazzling effect which is related to fate as well. This idea of fate
enhances their love for each other and the cosmic imagery adds a beautiful touch.
Later, Romeo foreshadows his untimely demise in Act 1 when he claims Some consequence yet
hanging in the stars/ shall begin his fearful date. (1.4.107 108). Romeo knows that it is fate who
directs his sail, but his trust in the stars quickly diminishes throughout the play, although his frequent
references to cosmic objects remain. They both believe in fate, but as trouble arises from their
relationship, they lose hope and deny the stars as guides. Cosmic imagery is used by Romeo and Juliet
to describe each other, adding a sense of unique intimacy to their love. But the stars never fated for
them to be together for eternity, ruining their majestic love story. Throughout Romeo and Juliet s
flourishing relationship, celestial imagery is used when talking about each other and bringing out the
pure love they have for one another. Through a combination of metaphors, personification, poetry,
similes, and allusions, their emotions for each other are shown with celestial imagery being the center
theme of their love. Romeo speaks delicately about Juliet s eyes when he acclaims Two of the fairest

Culture And Subcultures Of Fashion
If you look online, there are millions of pictures of Harajuku style. Guys and girls dressing up
androgynously, or wearing the most bizzare pieces of clothing ranging from sky high platforms to
mixing unlikely prints together. Some even wear their hair and makeup in the most avant garde way.
Japan for a while has been displaying fashion that intrigues us and influences us in many ways and
what people don t know is that of these fashions there are different communities and subcultures of
fashion that these people in the pictures conform to. Japan has a vast array of street fashion styles and
trends. They are all mixed with elements of traditional, foreign and/or local styles. Their street fashion
cultures vary from the tan skinned Ganguro girls to the victorian styled Lolitas. One of the most
popular and biggest Japanese fashion influencers were the high school girls of Kogyaru. What exactly
did these schoolgirls do to become one of the biggest trendsetters of Japan? The answers are within
their signature style, Japan s popular magazines, and ability to popularize certain products.
Kogyaru style was started by and became very popular among high school girls. That s what the name

Frames In Frank Luntz s Words Of Work
Frames are important because they help us emerge into a world or culture which we might not be
familiar with. Frames help us understand the different perspectives people have. It is important to note
that frames come from language. In his book Words that Work , Frank Luntz describes frames as the
context of any message (Luntz, p.26). He goes on to say that context, or framing, is important because
it explains the why of a message: without context, you cannot establish a message s value, its impact,
or most importantly, its relevance (Luntz, p.26). Naming is a crucial aspect when discussing frames, as
these can influence how an individual perceives a certain idea or political policy. In class, we watched

Eating Disorder Research Essay example
To what extent do biological approaches successfully explain eating disorders?
There are many different biological approaches that explain the reasons for eating disorders they all
have some validity behind them to a certain extent. An eating disorder is a psychological dysfunction
that causes a person to change their eating habits to eating less, or more etc.
Firstly a biological approach was studied by Holland (1988) on genetic concordance between identical
twins and non identical twins. Holland was trying to discover the connection between anorexia and
genetics through twins. Holland s study consisted of taking pairs of Monozygotic (identical) and
Dizygotic (non identical) with one of the twins suffering from anorexia; ... Show more content on

Also the study was only done with twins and therefore the same results may not be found between
parent and child etc, but the study does show that genetics can play a part in developing anorexia. For
using concordance rates these studies can be criticised, since concordance rates alone cannot be to
blame for twins developing an eating disorder, the causes can also be observational experiences/
learning such as constantly being surrounded by thin people and you are overweight.
Fava did another study done on eating disorder on seretonin. Fava discovered a link between the levels
of seretonin and anorexia. This showed that biologically the levels of seretonin in a person could cause
them to develop anorexia. However Fava did not show whether this change in the levels of seretonin
he discovered was a cause for the participants developing anorexia or whether it is a result of
anorexia. Since people who suffer from anorexia are often depressed it is difficult to show whether it
is a result or cause.
Garfinkel and Garner did another study on biological causes for anorexia. They discovered that
anorexia sufferers had a disturbed hypothalamus. This could mean that there is a link between the
hypothalamus and eating disorders. However not everyone with anorexia have a hypothalamus
dysfunction.

John Locke Law Of Nature
The Law of Nature is the universal concept at which most philosophers would refer to when
describing the natural state of society and humans (Joseph, 1999). The meaning of the Law of Nature
also differs from one philosopher to another. Here, Hobbes describes it as something humans of
rational thinking would try to escape even if it means subjecting oneself to absolute authority
(Baumgold, 2010).
The Social Contract has taken up a new meaning under Hobbes. Social Contract has become the
means by which Man, defined to be self interested and reasonable, escapes the Law of Nature which
was described to be intolerable. That Man, is willing to give up his freedom just to lead a civil life
which is more conducive for his self interests. Locke
John Locke is one of the most influential thinkers of his time. His work, Two Treatises on
Government, inspired the founding fathers of the United States of America and contradicted the
prevalent ideas in England (Dienstag, 1996). For Locke, the Law of Nature, contrary to Hobbes, is a
state of perfect and complete liberty to lead one s life as best as one sees it fit; that it should be free
from any kind of interference from others (Dienstag, 1996). This is under the belief of Locke that
everyone is equally created by God and therefore has equal freedom to pursue his personal interests.
Although, this does not mean that anyone is free to harm and trespass one another. This is for the same
reason that only God has the right to take away

Benefits Of Eating Healthy Diet Essay
It is often hard for me to maintain a healthy diet. Although I have took several classes that outline the
benefits of eating healthy, I often find myself setting a healthy eating goal and relapsing the next day.
My goals first consisted of me getting a balanced diet for three months. This goal began to fail after
two days. I had visited family members during the thanksgiving holiday and ate several unhealthy
foods. I then set a small goal of consuming only healthy foods for a week. I wrote down the foods I
would eat each day, within that week, and their proportion size. This goal last for three days, and
failed due to financial issues. Foods that were easy to prepare became my best friend. However, when
I became pregnant, I began to gain excuses weight. My doctor informed on the importance it was to
eat a balanced diet. He also taught me the effects unhealthy foods could have on the baby, as well as
me while being pregnant. Eating healthy then became a struggle, due to me having a loss of appetite.
Now that I am not pregnant anymore, and have gained my appetite back, it was not evident to me the
different foods and calories I consume in a day. Completing a dietary analysis has allowed me to gain
insight on the foods I eat, my normal calorie intake, and the amount of calories recommended. For 24
hours, I wrote down everything I consumed. This included meals, drinks, condiments, and snacks. I

food and cooking in their lives. As he describes the comforting aromas of his mother s cooking,
readers are urged to look back on their own comfort foods, their own mothers. Although the essay is
similar to an informal storytelling, if one looks at who the audience is, who Lee is, they can see that in
reality it is a desperate warning to those who aspire to be successful. Although the topic is not light,
the form of Lee s essay is familiar and informal, which although this can downplay the importance of
the message he is trying to convey, it draws the audience in and provides meaning in itself. The very
first words of the essay are personal: When my mother began using the electronic pump that fed her
liquids and medication, we moved her to the family room (Lee 120). Although the subject of a mother
s sickness is not something that is casual, the way the essay is introduced to the audience is. Lee
brings readers into his personal life, his family s pain, as a way to establish a sort of connection with
them. The essay also looks at the comfort of food in his life, a sensation the audience is meant to
identify with, to think about their mother s meals, at their homes. He

The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter is a well known novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The
novel is composed and written in Salem and Concord, as well as Boston, Massachusetts in the late
1840 s. The narrator of the novel is in an omniscent state, meaning he knows more about the
characters than the characters know about themselves. Although the narrartor is omniscent, he also
makes sure to include his ideas and opinions on situations, making him also greatly subjective. Being
subjective, as well as omniscent, historical fiction along with a story displaying constant symbolism is
evident. The novel begins with a sort of preamble if you will describing how The Scarlet Letter came
to be. Immediately, the narrator is introduced as the surveyor of the customhouse in Salem,
Massachusetts. The novel goes along describing the discovery made in the customhouses attic. The
nararator finds numerous documents that he sensed obtained some sort of importance, as well as a
manuscript. The most signifigant part of the scene is the documents were tied together with a scarlet,
and gold patch that formed the letter A. Naturally, the narrator s curiosity gets the best of him, and he
decides to investigate on his findings. The findings were the works of a past surveyor, just like
himself. One thing differed. The manuscript had events that had happened as far as two hundred years
in the past! The Scarlet Letter is composed by the narrator s decision to

Determining the Empirical Formula of Magnesium Oxide Essay...
Determining the Empirical Formula of Magnesium Oxide
INTRODUCTION:
The empirical formula is the simplest and lowest whole number ratio of the different atoms in a
sample of compound. To work out the empirical formula, the value of moles of the different atoms in a
compound is needed. Mole is just simply a unit used to measure the amount of atoms, just like how
the unit dozen is used to measure things such as eggs. One mole is 6Ã 10^23 atoms and this number is
called the Avogadro number. The mole can be also defined as the number of atoms in exactly 12g of
Carbon.

Tiny Moments
In The Epic of Gilgamesh food and drink appear in tiny moments and events with huge significance
and symbolism. If you delve deep into the details and themes of food in The Epic of Gilgamesh, you
will discover symbolism with profound meaning. One of the most obvious examples is how Enkidu
wandered the wilderness as a beast surviving on only grass and water. He is transformed by his first
taste of bread and beer. Food and drink represent much more than sustenance, it is what separates
humans and animals, the underworld from the above and it serves as a transformative metaphor for
life.

Theme Of Truth In Othello
The ideas of truth and perception are hard to differentiate in everyday life, making the real truth harder
to seek. The main functions in Othello are perception and truth which is a person s viewpoint or their
interpretation of reality, and truth being what actually happens, and these facts can be easily
manipulated. Othello, written by William Shakespeare, is a general who is constantly tormented
between the false and real truth by Iago who skillfully manipulates him throughout the story. In Plato s
The Republic, he also talks about these themes, saying that the truth can be shaped by your view of
reality and by stereotypes. In Othello, Shakespeare is saying that perception can easily alter the truth
of others, making the truth harder to accept. In the play, Iago skillfully manipulates Othello saying that
Desdemona is unfaithful to him through telling false stories, tormenting him with thoughts, and
persuading him to kill Desdemona and Cassio. These perceptions of truth from Honest Iago lead to
Othello s downfall; the truth in is often manipulated to Iago s personal benefit, Or to be naked with her
friend in bed, an hour or more, not meaning any harm? (IV, i, 1, 5 6) Iago is able to do this because of
his honest reputation and is verbally skilled. He s easily able to manipulate the real truth because of
his name Honest Iago. From Plato s The Republic and his Allegory of the Cave, the sunlight causes
the shadows that the prisoners see inside the cave, [...] they only

Lifeguard Analysis
As you prepare for your interview for a job as a lifeguard, here are some simply pointers to help you
get ready for the interview process. The lifeguard interview questions and answers may not be exactly
like other job interviews. However, it does have some similar characteristic of regular interviews. Like
every interview you should answer all question clearly, and with confidence. It is important to show
that you are knowledgeable about the jobs responsibility. This is the time to showcase your previous
experience and training and how you can apply your experience to the position you are applying for.
The first thing an interviewer wants to see is how confident you are. You can show them this by
maintaining good body language, and answering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a great opportunity to show the interviewer what sets you apart from other applicants and why
you would be a perfect fit for the position. If this is your first time interviewing for this positon, you
will more than likely not have any formal background experience as a lifeguard. However, do not let
that discourage you. There are other ways to show experience, such as talking about your experience
as a swimmer. When I first applied to be a lifeguard I had no on the job experience. Instead of letting
that intimidate me, I informed them that I was a competitive swimmer for 6 years and even made it to
the junior Olympics. By highlighting your swimming experience it shows the interviewer that you
have previous training and are comfortable in the water. Another way to show experience is to
mention any volunteer work where you had a leadership role or had to interact with and directed
people. A major key to lifeguarding is supervising others. Volunteer work shows you are capable of
handling responsibilities and are comfortable with being in a leadership position. Furthermore, it is
important that you described to them the steps you take when handling difficult situations. For those
who have had previse experience as a lifeguard you should describe a time where you had to handle a
tough situation as a lifeguard. Katy Piotrowski suggest that a person use the STAR process for
answering a number of interview questions: 1) describe the situation or tasks, 2) talk about the actions
you took, 3) finish with the results of your efforts. These are all good steps to take when being

The Characteristics Of Being An Honorable And Honest...
I believe that to accomplish something great in life is what most people strive to reach in their lives.
Having the courage to be an honorable and honest person is an amazing quality to have. You may ask
why is it so hard to be honest, well I feel it takes courage and honorability to stand alone and fight for
what is right. Believing and fighting for what is right for me is very courageous and for many people
that is very frightening and they sometimes prefer to stay quiet and not do anything.
In the poem, Beowulf, he was a brave warrior, a hero to the people. His honorability was so great he
had faith and believed in God. Beowulf saved the people from the monstrous Grendel when he was
terrorizing the town. I think honor is one of the characteristics that Beowulf has. An honorable person
is one who is deserving of respect. (Lynne Bratcher)It is very hard to be honorable and honest in a
world of competition, where most everyone lies and betrays each other. It takes a very strong person,
not physically but mentally and emotionally as well to be honest and honorable. Having faith and
wanting to do good by God are what makes us do the right things. Speaking the truth when everyone
else disagrees, it can sometimes be very frightening and hard for us to do because of the fear of being
rejected by others. Being loyal and helping others without accepting nothing back in return makes us
honorable.
Beowulf was a brave and courageous warrior, defeating three terrifying monsters with his bare
hands.Walking into the layer of the monster had to be very terrifying but, Beowulf courageously went
into it and behead Grendel s mother. (Heaney)Fearless and daring can guide you to be courageous and
to move in a dangerous situation. What makes a person so brave and courageous? Was is because he
was big and extremely strong? Being courageous does not mean you have to be strong, but having
heart. Moving in the face of danger. (Martha Pasternak)Having passion about what is being done, even
if it means it would be dangerous and even fatal. There are many brave and courageous people out
there in today s society. A firefighter that goes into a burning building to save a person or a police
officer that puts his or her life in the line for

Essay On Estrogen
Jenna Gunselman
12/1/2011
Biochemistry Extra Credit Paper
Estrogen and Its Effects Estrogens are steroids that are important in the reproductive cycles of humans
and some animals, and they are the main female sex hormones. They easily diffuse across cell
membranes, and once they are inside, they bind to estrogen receptors to control many genes and their
expressions. In human women, there are three types of estrogen: estradiol, which is the dominant form
of estrogen in women who are not pregnant, estrone, which is produced during menopause, and
estriol, which is found in pregnant women.
Estradiol is the most potent of the three types of estrogen found in women, almost ten times stronger
than estrone and almost eighty times stronger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both groups were then exposed for another 24 hours to etoposide, a drug used in chemotherapy that
promotes apoptosis. The results of this test showed that caspase 3 activity decreased in cells treated
with estrogen, but increased in cells not treated with estrogen. This supports the hypothesis that
estradiol does have an effect on apoptosis in bone cells, and that without it, cell death will increase and
bone density will diminish.
In addition to its effects on bone health, estrogen also has a huge effect on the cardiovascular system.
Studies have shown that it increases the levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, decreases the levels of
LDL, or bad cholesterol, and relaxes and dilates blood vessels so that blood flow will increase. There
is also evidence that estrogens contribute to the maintenance of the health of the endothelium, or the
lining of the blood vessels, thus further protecting the cardiovascular system from plaque and heart
disease. With menopause, estradiol levels drop, and so these effects on the heart and blood vessels are
lowered, giving postmenopausal women a higher risk of heart disease than premenopausal women.
A study done by Kim and Levin in 2006 at the University of California states that 17 beta estradiol
typically has a protective property on the cardiovascular system, and that it decreases the amount of
cell death in cardiomyocytes, or heart muscle cells. To test this theory, female rats

Security Concerns In Health Care Essay
Issues of Security Concern
With the enthusiastic adoption of health information technology tools, there has always been this fear
for users the threat to privacy and security. It is indeed one of the biggest concerns since the advent of
new technological record keeping and the electronic health information technology. Healthcare
professionals should be aware and very conscious of the fact that healthcare information is very
personal. It should also be known that whatsoever transfer of information amongst providers, via any
information technology took involves a lot of risks: one of which is the risk of the information getting
into the wrong hands. The task of enforcing this privacy and security issue has been given to the office
of the national coordinator (ONC) (Hagland, 2011). Their job is to ensure that private information
remains private, and also secured. The ONC upheld some regulations under the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (Mitka, 2013). This regulation seeks to increase the
access individuals have to their information and also restrict some certain disclosures of protected
health information. The ONC in their bid to enforce and ensure security and privacy, also prohibit the
sale of protected health information without the patient authorizing it. This office also demonstrated
some methods that could be used to achieve trust among all the entities involved in exchanging
medical information. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

arguments and quarrels since couple of years in almost every nation of the world. Looking deep down
to the region of United States, same sex marriage or gay marriage has not been legalized and
documented in most of its jurisdictions. However, it is prudent to note that with the beginning of the
twenty first century, only a few of US states have legally recognized the gay marriage through court
verdicts and legislative proceedings and have lawfully allowed the gay people to get into a
relationship (Wolfson 2004). Nevertheless, it has also been noticed that with the passage of time
increasing number of people are supporting the legalization of gay marriage at a progressive and
noticeable speed. In addition, records expose the fact that more or less fifty percent of the US
population are in favor to legally authorize the gay marriage with equal rights that are provided to
couples of traditional marriages. The proponents have added various arguments to support their
perspectives that are based on civil rights of the gay community, medical grounds and so forth. While
on the other side of the spectrum, the opponents have also provided their basis for arguments of
disagreement on parenting concerns, religious concerns and many other intellectual perceptions
(Wolfson 2004). Even though laws of the US articulates that they do not permit discrimination,

Similar to how girls in their teen years and twenties dream to look like the bikini model in magazines,
men look at Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mel Gibson in Conan The Barbarian and Mad Max 2: The
Road Warrior in hopes they could be as tough and manly as the two stars of these films. For example,
the scene where Conan and his ally invade Tulsa s palace and defeat his army to rescue the princess
(Conan The Barbarian) is directed to the male gaze as the masculine action of this scene is more
appealing to the male gender. Similar, the scene where Max fights through his injuries and leads the
pure faction to freedom, fighting off the scavengers almost single handedly (Mad Max), strongly
attracts the male gaze as it has very masculine actions that the male gender wishes they could

rate a piece of text on impact it has on the individual person or society. New Criticism eliminates
feelings, ratings and the impact a piece of had but rather focuses on the text itself. New Criticism,
incorporating Formalism, examines the relationships between a text s ideas and its form, between
what a text says and the way it says it. New Critics may find tension, irony, or paradox in this relation,
but they usually resolve it into unity and coherence of meaning (Biddle 100). Many theorist call this
the science of literature because it focuses on vocabulary, sound, imagery, narrative structure, point of
view, and other factors that dissect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Troy is a strict person but through his conversions it shows he cares. He plays the paternal role, head
of the household just as traditional African American families of the 1950s. He is also a character who
unconsciously creates self illusions which drives him to create conflicts with the people around him. A
problem that surfaces from these self illusions is Troy s inability to accept the decisions of others. He
is set in his own beliefs and doesn t agree with the choices anyone makes if it doesn t follow his own
thought process. This issue stems from Troy s own life story of going from a major baseball
opportunity to life as he now knows it, working a dead end job. This devastation has led Troy to be
cold hearted and nearly unaccepting of the great opportunities that others may be presented. Although
the play Fences emphasizes topics that pertains to the times, the author s perspective and touch
feelings, the text of the play reveal the difficulties of an African American man in the

Research Paper On Mandela Effect
As a young girl Nelson Mandela was an inspiration to me. My grandparents raised me, my
grandmother is Caucasian and my grandfather an African American. I was always interested in
learning about my culture and what it was like before when my grandparents were little. So a man
who was in prison because he fought for what he believed in truly fascinated me. My grandpa, who I
spent most of my time with, was interested by conspiracy theories. One of our favorites was The
Mandela Effect, changing the way we see it, read it and remember it. Taking that he was my best
friend we would talk about the mandela effect all the time. We talked about a few, did 9/11 occur on
9/11 or on 9/12? As I got older we asked How do you spell Febreeze? F e b r e e z e? ... Show more

The riddle making book lovers mad, the journalist focuses more on the children s book, The
Berenstain Bears, which most people remember it to be spelled with an E and not an A. The NZ
Herald, also has a slightly different view on the Mandela Effect. Instead of there being multiple
alternate universes, there is one, and there are people who traveled back in time and tampered with the
past and somehow it changed minor things, like the spelling of a children s book. No one really
knows. But I ve quizzed friends, family and acquaintances and they all came back with Berenstein.
With an E. It seems everyone I know is wrong. Or are we? And this is where the whole Berenstain
business gets eerie. How can so many people all be wrong about the exact same thing? How can
something I m so certain of, that I vividly remember, be hopelessly incorrect? (The New Zealand)
This journalist talks about more people supporting the Mandela Effect and having the same memories
about the past as the author

Walt Disney America`s Great American
On December 5, 1901, Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney gave birth to a man who would eventually
change our world by the creation of a little mouse. Walter Elias Disney, who was also known as Walt,
was born in a small town in Chicago, Illinois, by a father who was an Irish Canadian descent, and his
mother who was a German English descent. Walt was one out of five children, four brothers and a
sister. Their names were Herbert Arthur Disney, Raymond Arnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney, and
Ruth Flora Disney. Walt was the oldest one out of the five. While he attended school, he was
introduced to Walter Pfeiffer, who decided to show Walt vaudeville and the art of making movies.
Walt decided to drop out of high school, at the age of sixteen, to join the army. He was rejected to join
because he was too young of age. He and a friend decided to join the Red Cross, where Walt was an
ambulance driver during World War II. In 1919, Walt moved to Kansas City to begin a career in art,
and worked for the newspaper, as a newspaper artist. He met Ubbe Iwerks, and he and Disney soon
made their own commercial company called, Iwerks Disney Commercial Artists. After he met Ubbe
Iwerks, Disney and Iwerks decided to open a company called Laugh o Grams, which screened short
animated cartoons that became very popular in the area of Kansas City. Disney hired a number of
animators to work in the company. Unfortunately, the studio profits failed, and Disney ended up in
loads of debt, and became

Driverless Car Advancement
Have you ever been extremely late for school or your occupations and wish you could just get ready in
the car? Automotive cars are planned to come out sometime in the near future of the year 2020. I
know this new technological advancement seems scary, but with the ways it will benefit us
remarkable. Self driving cars would impact our advanced society in many positive ways because the
streets would become less congested, the innovations for cars have worked before, and the amount of
deaths would be lessened. The driverless car would be a great innovation to have in your everyday life
because it will allow cities to not be as congested. Firstly, this technology will become increasingly
reliable and affordable, which will allow dense, urban locations to become more spread out in
population (Dashevsky). This demonstrates that when this innovation ... Show more content on

Firstly, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has estimated 2,200 lives were saved due
to electronic stability from 2008 to 2010 (Villasenor). This demonstrates how technological
advancements might even be scary at the beginning and hard to get used to, that it will be worth it in
the long run. Next, advanced innovations are being tested, such as safely navigating through streets, to
prove that this technology is capable (Villasenor). Without people driving these cars, and computers
navigating through the streets instead, there will be less accidents as well as deaths. Finally, road
deaths have dropped from 53,000 in 1970 to 33,000 in 2014, which is even more impressive when you
hear that the population has doubled and the number of miles we drive per year has tripled
(Dashevsky). This demonstrates that innovations have been working for the past years, if the amount
of deaths per year have been decreasing. In summary, these technological advancements have
improved our lives greatly over the past

Transit Oriented Development Paper
I. Introduction While transit oriented development (TOD) has become an increasingly popular
planning mechanism, very few studies have been conducted on how cities try to plan for and
implement transit oriented development projects. This paper analyzes the TOD implementation
process near transit centers, along with light rail transit and the TOD projects that complement it.
Zoning/land use data as well as archival research suggest TOD in San Diego will be its own special
market due to the widespread transit infrastructure the region has. There are several barriers currently
restricting TOD implementation in San Diego County. The main one being TOD projects are heavily
pursued in cases where site conditions are under achieving or nonexistent. ... Show more content on

Especially planning for major cities in the past 60 years, our society goes from planning around the
car and the suburb, to increasing density around transit so everyone can be connected with each other.
The situation itself shows how much planning has advanced between the rational model of planning
and the incremental model. To fully understand TOD, one must connect the general idea of it, along
with current planning practices and mainly the incremental model. How TOD implementation can
justify itself as a new transportation planning tool will be discussed towards the conclusion of this
paper. For now, a background will be provided on how the concept of TOD got

  • 2. Guilt And Shame By Bernhard Schlink Guilt is defined as an emotion of regret or accountability for some offense, which drives a person to make amends in some way. Shame is defined as a painful emotion arising from the consciousness of committing something immoral. The Reader, by Bernhard Schlink, is a novel that is filled with various examples of guilt and shame. Guilt is especially important because the symbolic meaning of the story contains illustrations of both collective and personal guilt. This emphasis on guilt begs the question: How can the novel, The Reader, be seen as a study in collective and personal guilt? The Reader can be seen as a study in collective and personal guilt because it shows how Hanna and Michael represent the guilt of Germans communally and individually. Hanna Schmitz, former SS guard at Auschwitz and Michael s adult lover, represents old Germany and the guilt of Germany as a whole. Hanna is an authoritative, cold, efficient, and ignorant woman that constantly struggles due to her illiteracy. In the beginning of the story, Hanna helps Michael home when he is ill, even though she does not know him. Michael later returns to Hanna s apartment to thank her for saving him and Hanna seduces him. Hanna and Michael begin to have an affair that persists for several months. Throughout these months, Hanna insists on Michael reading to her before they have sex. Then one day, Hanna disappears without a trace. Later in the story, when Michael is attending a court case, it is revealed that Hanna ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Short Story Marigolds Eugenia Collier uses diction and imagery to create the voice of her narrator, Lizabeth, in her short story Marigolds. Lizabeth has a negative tone in the beginning of the story. The imagery she stated, When I think of my hometown, all that I seem to remember is dust the brown crumbly dust of late summer arid, sterile dust that gets into the eyes and makes them water (Collier)... proves that she is unhappy to be in that place. There are a lot of reasons why she is unhappy in that place and one of them is poverty. Lizabeth hinted that one of their struggles was poverty when she said Poverty is a cage in which we all are trapped, and our hatred of it was still the vague, undirected restlessness of the zoo bred flamingo who knows that nature created him to fly flee (Collier). Lizabeth established the juxtaposition when she said, And one other thing I remember, another incongruency of memory a brilliant splash of sunny yellow against the dust Miss Lottie s marigolds (Collier). She is stating that Miss Lottie s marigolds were the only beautiful thing in that unsightly place. Those marigolds did not give her a pleasant feeling because she thought that they were too beautiful to exist in that kind of place. Miss Lottie was believed to be a witch when Lizabeth was young but she knows she is mature enough not believe in those things anymore. Their first encounter resulted in Lizabeth and her company destroying some of Miss Lottie s marigolds and they left Miss Lottie and John Burke, her son, enraged. When she got home and went to her room hoping to rest after a long day, she overheard her parents talking. She heard her dad say, Twenty two years, Maybelle, twenty two years...and I got nothing for you, nothing, nothing (Collier). She then realized that her father got fired from his job and was not taking it too well after what they have been through. Maybelle, Lizabeth s mother, attempted to comfort her husband by saying, Honey, you took good care of us when you had it. Ain t nobody got nothing nowadays (Collier). After a while of discussion Lizabeth s father began to sob, loudly and painfully. At this point, LIzabeth is confused because she never heard a man cry before. She did not even know that men cry. ... To refute this is to ignore decades of rich history, disregard hours of artful labor, and discredit the immeasurable devotion of many whom worked to perfect this art form. Although video games may not suit every individual s tastes, one cannot claim with credibility they possess no artistic merit. My awareness of this concept is longstanding. From my most juvenile years, I have been captivated by this genre. To be a child and hold in the palm of your hand what feels like a window to an exhilarating adventure in a limitless universe is, in short, a riveting experience. However, the rush is not exclusive to children. This digital magic is a far cry from tag and hopscotch. Video games have developed a belittling reputation that they do not deserve. The voluntarily ignorant have unjustly assigned them this connotation. Naturally, with any change, resistance occurs. The innovation that video games introduced to the arts is unprecedented. That said, it is evident that not all artists are willing to accept something so radically novel. There are many different biological approaches that explain the reasons for eating disorders they all have some validity behind them to a certain extent. An eating disorder is a psychological dysfunction that causes a person to change their eating habits to eating less, or more etc. Firstly a biological approach was studied by Holland (1988) on genetic concordance between identical twins and non identical twins. Also the study was only done with twins and therefore the same results may not be found between parent and child etc, but the study does show that genetics can play a part in developing anorexia. For using concordance rates these studies can be criticised, since concordance rates alone cannot be to blame for twins developing an eating disorder, the causes can also be observational experiences/ learning such as constantly being surrounded by thin people and you are overweight. Fava did another study done on eating disorder on seretonin. Fava discovered a link between the levels of seretonin and anorexia. This showed that biologically the levels of seretonin in a person could cause them to develop anorexia. However Fava did not show whether this change in the levels of seretonin he discovered was a cause for the participants developing anorexia or whether it is a result of anorexia. Since people who suffer from anorexia are often depressed it is difficult to show whether it is a result or cause. Garfinkel and Garner did another study on biological causes for anorexia. • 19. John Locke Law Of Nature The Law of Nature is the universal concept at which most philosophers would refer to when describing the natural state of society and humans (Joseph, 1999). The meaning of the Law of Nature also differs from one philosopher to another. Here, Hobbes describes it as something humans of rational thinking would try to escape even if it means subjecting oneself to absolute authority (Baumgold, 2010). The Social Contract has taken up a new meaning under Hobbes. Social Contract has become the means by which Man, defined to be self interested and reasonable, escapes the Law of Nature which was described to be intolerable. That Man, is willing to give up his freedom just to lead a civil life which is more conducive for his self interests. Locke John Locke is one of the most influential thinkers of his time. His work, Two Treatises on Government, inspired the founding fathers of the United States of America and contradicted the prevalent ideas in England (Dienstag, 1996). For Locke, the Law of Nature, contrary to Hobbes, is a state of perfect and complete liberty to lead one s life as best as one sees it fit; that it should be free from any kind of interference from others (Dienstag, 1996). This is under the belief of Locke that everyone is equally created by God and therefore has equal freedom to pursue his personal interests. • 21. Chang-Rae Lee Coming Home Again Analysis Comfort food is easily defined; it is merely food that brings one comfort. Author and professor Chang Rae Lee certainly seems to identify with that statement in his essay Coming Home Again. This personal narrative tells the story of the relationship between his mother and himself through a look at food and cooking in their lives. As he describes the comforting aromas of his mother s cooking, readers are urged to look back on their own comfort foods, their own mothers. Although the essay is similar to an informal storytelling, if one looks at who the audience is, who Lee is, they can see that in reality it is a desperate warning to those who aspire to be successful. Although the topic is not light, the form of Lee s essay is familiar and informal, which although this can downplay the importance of the message he is trying to convey, it draws the audience in and provides meaning in itself. The very first words of the essay are personal: When my mother began using the electronic pump that fed her liquids and medication, we moved her to the family room (Lee 120). Although the subject of a mother s sickness is not something that is casual, the way the essay is introduced to the audience is. Lee brings readers into his personal life, his family s pain, as a way to establish a sort of connection with them. Being subjective, as well as omniscent, historical fiction along with a story displaying constant symbolism is evident. The novel begins with a sort of preamble if you will describing how The Scarlet Letter came to be. Immediately, the narrator is introduced as the surveyor of the customhouse in Salem, Massachusetts. The novel goes along describing the discovery made in the customhouses attic. The nararator finds numerous documents that he sensed obtained some sort of importance, as well as a manuscript. The most signifigant part of the scene is the documents were tied together with a scarlet, and gold patch that formed the letter A. Naturally, the narrator s curiosity gets the best of him, and he decides to investigate on his findings. The findings were the works of a past surveyor, just like himself. One thing differed. The manuscript had events that had happened as far as two hundred years in the past! The Scarlet Letter is composed by the narrator s decision to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Determining the Empirical Formula of Magnesium Oxide INTRODUCTION: The empirical formula is the simplest and lowest whole number ratio of the different atoms in a sample of compound. Mole is just simply a unit used to measure the amount of atoms, just like how the unit dozen is used to measure things such as eggs. One mole is 6Ã 10^23 atoms and this number is called the Avogadro number. The mole can be also defined as the number of atoms in exactly 12g of Carbon. • 28. Theme Of Truth In Othello The ideas of truth and perception are hard to differentiate in everyday life, making the real truth harder to seek. The main functions in Othello are perception and truth which is a person s viewpoint or their interpretation of reality, and truth being what actually happens, and these facts can be easily manipulated. Othello, written by William Shakespeare, is a general who is constantly tormented between the false and real truth by Iago who skillfully manipulates him throughout the story. In Plato s The Republic, he also talks about these themes, saying that the truth can be shaped by your view of reality and by stereotypes. In Othello, Shakespeare is saying that perception can easily alter the truth of others, making the truth harder to accept. In the play, Iago skillfully manipulates Othello saying that Desdemona is unfaithful to him through telling false stories, tormenting him with thoughts, and persuading him to kill Desdemona and Cassio. These perceptions of truth from Honest Iago lead to Othello s downfall; the truth in is often manipulated to Iago s personal benefit, Or to be naked with her friend in bed, an hour or more, not meaning any harm? • 30. The Characteristics Of Being An Honorable And Honest... I believe that to accomplish something great in life is what most people strive to reach in their lives. Having the courage to be an honorable and honest person is an amazing quality to have. You may ask why is it so hard to be honest, well I feel it takes courage and honorability to stand alone and fight for what is right. Believing and fighting for what is right for me is very courageous and for many people that is very frightening and they sometimes prefer to stay quiet and not do anything. In the poem, Beowulf, he was a brave warrior, a hero to the people. His honorability was so great he had faith and believed in God. Beowulf saved the people from the monstrous Grendel when he was terrorizing the town. I think honor is one of the characteristics that Beowulf has. An honorable person is one who is deserving of respect. (Lynne Bratcher)It is very hard to be honorable and honest in a world of competition, where most everyone lies and betrays each other. It takes a very strong person, not physically but mentally and emotionally as well to be honest and honorable. Having faith and wanting to do good by God are what makes us do the right things. Speaking the truth when everyone else disagrees, it can sometimes be very frightening and hard for us to do because of the fear of being rejected by others. Being loyal and helping others without accepting nothing back in return makes us honorable. Beowulf was a brave and courageous warrior, defeating three terrifying monsters with his bare hands.Walking into the layer of the monster had to be very terrifying but, Beowulf courageously went into it and behead Grendel s mother. (Heaney)Fearless and daring can guide you to be courageous and to move in a dangerous situation. What makes a person so brave and courageous? Was is because he was big and extremely strong? Being courageous does not mean you have to be strong, but having heart. Moving in the face of danger. (Martha Pasternak)Having passion about what is being done, even if it means it would be dangerous and even fatal. There are many brave and courageous people out there in today s society. Essay On Estrogen Jenna Gunselman 12/1/2011 Biochemistry Extra Credit Paper Estrogen and Its Effects Estrogens are steroids that are important in the reproductive cycles of humans and some animals, and they are the main female sex hormones. They easily diffuse across cell membranes, and once they are inside, they bind to estrogen receptors to control many genes and their expressions. In human women, there are three types of estrogen: estradiol, which is the dominant form of estrogen in women who are not pregnant, estrone, which is produced during menopause, and estriol, which is found in pregnant women. Estradiol is the most potent of the three types of estrogen found in women, almost ten times stronger than estrone and almost eighty times stronger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both groups were then exposed for another 24 hours to etoposide, a drug used in chemotherapy that promotes apoptosis. The results of this test showed that caspase 3 activity decreased in cells treated with estrogen, but increased in cells not treated with estrogen. This supports the hypothesis that estradiol does have an effect on apoptosis in bone cells, and that without it, cell death will increase and bone density will diminish. In addition to its effects on bone health, estrogen also has a huge effect on the cardiovascular system. Studies have shown that it increases the levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, decreases the levels of LDL, or bad cholesterol, and relaxes and dilates blood vessels so that blood flow will increase. There is also evidence that estrogens contribute to the maintenance of the health of the endothelium, or the lining of the blood vessels, thus further protecting the cardiovascular system from plaque and heart disease. With menopause, estradiol levels drop, and so these effects on the heart and blood vessels are lowered, giving postmenopausal women a higher risk of heart disease than premenopausal women. A study done by Kim and Levin in 2006 at the University of California states that 17 beta estradiol typically has a protective property on the cardiovascular system, and that it decreases the amount of cell death in cardiomyocytes, or heart muscle cells. This demonstrates how technological advancements might even be scary at the beginning and hard to get used to, that it will be worth it in the long run. Next, advanced innovations are being tested, such as safely navigating through streets, to prove that this technology is capable (Villasenor). Without people driving these cars, and computers navigating through the streets instead, there will be less accidents as well as deaths. Finally, road deaths have dropped from 53,000 in 1970 to 33,000 in 2014, which is even more impressive when you hear that the population has doubled and the number of miles we drive per year has tripled (Dashevsky). This demonstrates that innovations have been working for the past years, if the amount of deaths per year have been decreasing. In summary, these technological advancements have improved our lives greatly over the past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction While transit oriented development (TOD) has become an increasingly popular planning mechanism, very few studies have been conducted on how cities try to plan for and implement transit oriented development projects. This paper analyzes the TOD implementation process near transit centers, along with light rail transit and the TOD projects that complement it. Zoning/land use data as well as archival research suggest TOD in San Diego will be its own special market due to the widespread transit infrastructure the region has. There are several barriers currently restricting TOD implementation in San Diego County. The main one being TOD projects are heavily pursued in cases where site conditions are under achieving or nonexistent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Especially planning for major cities in the past 60 years, our society goes from planning around the car and the suburb, to increasing density around transit so everyone can be connected with each other. The situation itself shows how much planning has advanced between the rational model of planning and the incremental model. To fully understand TOD, one must connect the general idea of it, along with current planning practices and mainly the incremental model. How TOD implementation can justify itself as a new transportation planning tool will be discussed towards the conclusion of this paper. For now, a background will be provided on how the concept of TOD got ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
