Tim Burton Flashbacks
Film directing lets a person express themselves through creating characters that can relate to one s
emotions and thoughts. Director Tim Burton has dictated many films, all containing a similar aspects.
However, he expresses a deeper message outside of the grimness and darkness of his films. Four of his
motion pictures include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and Big
Fish. Within these films, Burton provides the message that family is defined by love, not blood. This
significance is developed through flashbacks and characterization amongst protagonists. Tim Burton
incorporates flashbacks in his films, allowing the audience to experience the relationship between
characters and their families. In Charlie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Wonka was a child, his dad did not permit him eat any of his sweets on Halloween, creating
tension between the two. Throughout the movie, series of flashbacks create more and more conflict
with Willy s dad and himself, to the point where he decides to abandon his home and search for a new
life. Within these memories, there is no connection between Wonka and his dad. He learns to disregard
how his dad wronged him and begins to focus his energy into what he loves; making candy. His love
for the factory and the people inside it became all of what he really knew in life. After Charlie won the
factory, he reunited Willy Wonka with his father. Willy learned that in order to have a family, there
needs to be a bond; something that was unaccounted for in his life. Charlie then became his new
family, and looked after and cared for Willy as if he were a part of the Bucket family. On the other
hand, Burton creates characters who have no relatives, and need an individual to care for them in their
life. In Edward Scissorhands, Edward is heartbroken when his only family figure dies. Whenever
someone discusses family matter, Edward has a

A Risk Management Log is started during the planning phase. As scheduling, budgeting, and resource
planning occur, the worksheet is updated to reflect further risks identified in the planning.
At project startup, the Risk Management Log is reviewed again, and any new risks are added to it. As
the project progresses, members of the team identify new risk areas that are added to the Risk
Management Log.
Risk identification is a recurring event; it is not performed once and then set aside. Risk identification,
management, and resolution efforts continue throughout the life of the project. New risks are
identified as the project progresses and external and internal situations change. Trigger dates can be
included in the schedule for tracking risks.
Project risks are likely to be identified in two ways:
1. By Project Leadership during meeting discussions, as well as ongoing day to day operations.
2. Via day to day activities, such as team working sessions and status meetings. Teams will manage
risks within their teams and escalate them as appropriate.

Khandelwal and Pravesh Shah Department of Computer Science, California State University Long
Beach, USA Group number 11 Abstract As Cloud Computing is considered as the most influential
technology in IT world which provides many facilities and increases the capability of our system
without any extra hardware installment. So this paper focuses on the fault tolerance of web application
by one of the major cloud service provider Amazon. We will provide the ways on the process adopted
by Amazon and how we can improve the existing techniques of fault tolerance. We provide the detail
infrastructure of the Amazon Web application design. Also the important part covered in this paper is
the computation done in cloud computing. As it is required that the computation should be in complete
secure way and also doesn t get infected by malicious and faulty cloud. So we define the ways to
employ the method and how to distribute the data to different clouds. We will demonstrate this using
the calculation of matrix multiplication. I INTRODUCTION As today, IT world is heavily based on
cloud computing and most of the companies had earned billions through this technology like Google,
Salesforce and Amazon. As Amazon is considered the top E commerce company of the world so

Marigolds By Eugenia Collier Essay
Elements of a Short Story Essay Living in poverty and having to face one s crumbling society is
extremely stressful. In Eugenia Collier s short story, Marigolds, the main character, Lizabeth, and the
other citizens of the town she lives in, including her parents, her friends, and Miss Lottie, must learn
to cope with that stress, and in Lizabeth s case, learn how to deal with the effects of maturation. The
different types of conflict within Marigolds are man versus man, man versus society, and man versus
self because Lizabeth has to face peer pressure, the living conditions brought by the Great Depression,
as well as the development of her own emotions. Due to the lack of entertainment, Lizabeth and her
friends have to resort to bothering Miss Lottie for fun, and they compel Lizabeth to ransack the
marigolds Miss Lottie pours her love into. At first, she is hesitant to perform such an immature act, but
her friends continue to taunt her, jeering, You scared, Lizabeth? (Collier 3). Their attitude influences
her negatively;not only does it encourage behavior that is pointless and problematic, it also makes
Lizabeth feel as if she is somehow less of a person if she does ... Show more content on

The desire to continue seeing the world through rose tinted glasses despite any occurrences that may
force one to do otherwise is understandable;most individuals have likely experienced this emotion at
least once in their lives. This type of conflict is man versus self because Lizabeth is uncomfortable
with this change, as she wants to continue to have fun with the mind of a child but cannot help but feel
guilty for her actions. As a result of the problems she faces, Lizabeth becomes

Victor In the very first sentence of Sherman Alexie s This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona,
you can assume that the main character, Victor, is facing a hard life. Not only did he lose his job, he
also lost his father to a heart attack the same day. The story tells the journey of Victor and an old
friend, Thomas Builds the Fire, traveling to Phoenix to pick up his father s ashes, pickup truck, and
money from his savings account. Victor did not have any money and neither did anyone else living on

ashamed of his Native American background because he did not want to turn out like Thomas.
Throughout the course of their trip, Victor begins to accept Thomas and understand him more. When
Victor agrees to listen to just one of Thomas stories, Just one time when I m telling a story
somewhere, why don t you stop and listen? Thomas asked. Victor waved his arms to let Thomas know
that the deal was good, (page 282) the reader begins to see the new, more accepting Victor. The old
Victor would be too afraid of what others were thinking about him to stop and listen to Thomas tell a
story, but now he accepts who he is and also who his cousin Thomas is. Victor was quiet for a long
time. He searched his mind for memories of his father, found the good ones, found a few bad ones,
added it all up, and smiled. This is another turning point in the story because this is where Victor
finally accepts his relationship with his father and is at peace. This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix,

bad friend to Thomas, but Thomas has been

The History of Television Essay
Many Americans today go home and flip on the television, but many do not take the time to think
about the complexity of this great invention that is common to us. Nearly sixty years ago television
barely existed and was not thought to be used as a broad communicator like it is used in today s
generation. Through its starting, stopping, then restarting in the 1940 s, television took off and
expanded greatly in just a few short decades and had great technological breakthroughs to allow it a
widespread range of uses. Though technologies existed in the forties, the great advancement and
possibility that television would have, were not yet explored. Just as the radio, television was a
process being experimented with, worked, and transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

America as a whole was still on edge of this new breakthrough, much like the decades before when
they first experienced the radio. David Sarnoff, under employment at RCA, an invested radio
company who took great interest in the television realm, thought to change the perception of how
many people viewed television. Instead of making it just for informational guidance, he wanted to
make it a part of every day life for Americans. With the help of his company he developed tubes,
lenses, cameras, and other new tools in technology that later led to the great development we have
today. At the end of the decade RCA had more than 3 experimental versions of television sets with
color. By the end of the 40 s the television industry had been well established. In 1947, President
Harry Truman delivered his state of the union address and the baseball World Series were both
televised. There were three major networks in America that had successful lineups. NBC, CBS, and
DuMont were the most successful. Both CBS and NBC networks began a nightly fifteen minute
segment newscast. In 1949, the price of TV sets went down, leading to Americans purchasing 100,00
sets per week. Growing away from their once reservation of television, many Americans were starting
to see the value of television between its use of communication and the use of generating a profit from
it. The high demand for television sets grew to a mandate of television programs in

Spanish American War 98 Analysis
In 1898, the United States intervened in a conflict in which Cuba was attempting to gain independence
from Spain. The United States interposed their selves after a Naval ship, the USS Maine, was
destroyed. The journalism at the time, yellow journalism to be specific, blamed Spain for the sinking
of the battleship, and so the United States decided to step in. John Lukacs, an American Hungarian
author, wrote The Meaning of 98 as an examination of the crucial parts of and leading up to The
Spanish American War. In this article, Lukacs states the events in 1898 that America inserted
themselves in and, set in motion the first American Century.

Lukacs called the war a blessing in disguise for Spain and their pride. He states that some of the most
intellectual minds arrived close after the war (Lukacs 5). To rebuttal the blessing in disguise , the war
tore apart Spain. America was nice to them, but that is after the war and after they won. Once a team
wins, they can be nice all they want. But during the battle they fought hard (not that they needed to).
Although, after the war, Spain went nowhere but up. That was not a blessing in disguise , thats called
hitting an all time low. Once Spain hit rock bottom, they had nowhere to go but up. So it seems as if
the war helped Spain, but instead just put a different perspective on improving the country. After the
war, the United States decided not to combine with Cuba, but they did, however, add Hawaii as the

Essay On Women In Romeo And Juliet
INTRODUCTION
Though women were unexceptional to men, women in diverse classes had changed conquerors. Low
class women were expected to be housewives and take care of everything to do with the house. The
expectation of working class women was a little bit different. These women were likely to work for
their husbands and benefit them run their business. They would work beside with their husbands and
then go home and take care of the house hold. Some women were permitted to work small jobs as
leather workers, fabric merchants, or as assistants to bakers. In rare cases, the wife of a merchant
would take over her husband s position and duties after he died. This didn t put the woman on equal
footing, however, women were paid much less than a man doing the same type of job. Even a
Renaissance merchant woman was expected to remain silent unless spoken to, avoid all discussions of
religion or politics, and to attend to the duties of their husbands business and household.

Danville Feasibility Study
AGE FRIENDLY DANVILLE: WALKABILITY Thanks to the recent beautification project that was
completed over a year ago, Danville has put a lot of thought, in conjunction with money, making their
town a more alluring place to live. With its maintained streetscapes, both pedestrian and bicycle
friendly, as bicyclists have their own lanes throughout Danville, the town has re designed walkways
and bridges, as well as included shading and benches while providing additional trail linkage between
neighborhoods, thus making walking more accessible throughout its town. In addition to more traffic
lights, kiosks, signage, and closing gaps in the sidewalk system, the planning commission continues to
improve the downtown for it s in the midst of converting the lighting system with LED (light emitting
diode) in an effort to provide suitable lighting while keeping current with standard codes. The hope is
that by making Danville a pedestrian and bicycle friendly town, it will become an expanded active
community, encouraging exercise, and at the same time, reducing congestion. The curb cuts are quite

Reflection On Managing A Team
In the past I have worked for some really good managers and some not so good ones, however, what I
realized is that while they may have done the basic requirements to manage the people under them,
they did not do so efficiently and effectively. This is something that pricked me and then I realised that
I needed to learn and overcome this shortcoming and manage my team in a more effective and
efficient way. When this course was offered for the first time in our program it grabbed my attention
as it fit perfectly in what I wanted to tailor within myself as a future manager. These are my learnings
and how I wish to reform myself. Our first class focused on Forming Teams and Introductions It
started in a very friendly manner and through an introductory exercise, every individual had to talk
spontaneously about their positive qualities and how each of us could benefit from the other and bring
the same to the team. For me the question, what each individual could add to the team really stood out
because everyone had something unique to say about themselves and I will certainly use it in the
future while forming teams. Later, we had a small team exercise of making 15 paper airplane and this
exercise taught us the Forming part of the team model that is how to adapt quickly in a new team, help
each other and come up with a solution. During this entire process one team member was asked to
observe without giving any inputs. This technique deemed simple and creative as I felt it

Major League Baseball Impose Salary Caps For Athletes
Should Major League Baseball Impose Salary Caps for Athletes?
There are many professional athletes who are overpaid a tremendous amount of money. For example,
in 2013 the New York Yankees third basemen Alex Rodriguez s salary was $29,000,000. Another
athlete that was overpaid was the Philadelphia Phillies first basemen Ryan Howard. During the 2011
postseason, he tore his Achilles tendon and had to miss most of 2012 season because he was on the
disabled list. He had a salary of $20,000,000 for 2012 and only played 71 games out of 162. Major
League Baseball should impose a salary cap on athletes because athletes are being overpaid, they are
signing big contracts, and some are not performing well.
Many people believe that professional baseball

Are Immunizations worth the risk? I really think this is a great question that can lead to a great

Rise Of The Soviet Union
Could you ever imagine living in a country where as a citizen you have no power in the government or
a say in your own business? This is how the citizens lived for many years under the rule of many
different leaders. The Soviet Union is a prime example of a society where your rights are taken away.
The creation of the Soviet Union, also known as The Union of Soviet Socialists Republics, began
shortly after the overthrow the Russian tsar in 1917. Soon after its creation, problems arose within the
new form of government affecting the lives of two hundred and ninety three million civilians. Decades
after the revolution, Mikhail Gorbachev came into power proposing new laws in order to lead the
Soviet Union out of economic catastrophe. These changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They created a communist state which was supposed to be run more like a true democracy but was ran

own land but those privileges were soon taken away under the communist rule. Instead the

Weather in the book is used to convey a multitude of things, but rain in particular symbolizes some
sort of melancholy. Each time rain appears throughout the book, it sets the scene and adds to the mood
of the situation, recurring numerous times in order to solidify that symbolic relationship. One time
when the rain is prevalent is when Daisy and Gatsby first reunite. Their initial meeting is awkward
and forced, thus the rain was falling. This allows the reader to not only understand the predicament to
a greater extent, but also to visualize it. It had been five years since they were last together, and in that,
the rain represents the despair left over from their time apart. After they became more comfortable

Data Center Assurance Program Project
Process Analysis
Cisco Systems went ahead with modified version of waterfall model for Data Center Assurance
Program (DCAP) project. Though waterfall model is old and have less success rate, it suited DCAP
project quite well. As the goals and scope of the project is fixed throughout the project and release
cycles are about 6 8 months it is easy to use waterfall model. Partial overlap between various phases
existed. This allowed for parallel execution of few tasks and helped in effective resource utilization
and on time project delivery. All the engineers are involved in all the stages of the project. Also there
any enough resources to replace the ones who left the project. Standard disaster recovery practices of a
real time production data center are not fallowed, but those required for the project to replicate the real
time scenario are used. For instance, to make sure the real time environment like distance between two
data centers, wan emulators are used.
Effectiveness of Initial Planning The detailed analysis of requirements and studying the real time
scenario by visiting customer s location proved to be good in refining project goals. No all the project
members are given opportunity to study customer s environment which is practiced due to budget
issues. The decision to fallow modified version of water fall model fitted the project quite well. But
the overlapping of the phases is not quite long and proved deficient. This resulted in ineffective
resource utilization.

Research Paper On Chaos Theory
In 1961, computers were still infancy, and the race to the moon had just begun. Edward Lorenz one of
the first proponents of chaos theory developed a weather prediction model and found out that the
smallest changes at the one millionth of the decimal point can make his predictions useless, he called
this result as butterfly effect. The butterfly effect is a theoretical example of chaos theory. The main
premise of latter is that small changes in initial condition results in vast differences in final outcome.
The term butterfly effect is a metaphorical example of a hurricane being influenced by flapping of the
wings of a distant butterfly several years earlier by creating tiny changes in the atmosphere. This could

He predicted that the movement of the simplified solar system consisting of The sun , The moon and
The earth is governed by the Newtonian laws of motion. He found out that even this simple system
behaves in an unpredictable manner and hence the three body problem is unsolvable. For
understanding this solar system and other complex systems such as earth s weather system we would
have to go in a different direction. That new direction is a new brand of science called THE CHAOS
THEORY.
1.2) What is Chaos Theory
Chaos theory is the field of study that studies about the behavior of the dynamical systems which are
highly sensitive to initial conditions. This theory proposes that even small changes in initial conditions
(such as rounding off of errors in numerical computation) results in vast differences in final outcomes
for such systems. It is valid for deterministic systems also. Deterministic systems are those systems
whose future behavior is fully determined by their initial conditions, no random elements are
involved. This feature is known as deterministic chaos, or simply

Perfect Octave-Personal Narrative
So I am not going lie. I have never been to a concert but I will be talking about a life changing event I

The Paradox Of Success Research Paper
Another discipline that widely displays the paradox of finding success through failure is science. In
science there have been many great success stories, where scientists have achieved their success
through failure. An example of this is Thomas Edison, who experienced many setbacks in life but did
not let that stop him from reaching his goals. Thomas Edison was one of the most productive
inventors in American history. With 1,093 U.S. patents and more in the United Kingdom, France, and

Ford and urged him to pursue his dreams of manufacturing cars. Edison s past experience allowed him
to be able to give him this sound advice. It wasn t always easy for Ford, who grew up knowing that an
individual could get ahead in the world by working hard. But social or economic conditions were not
an excuse, (Ford, 2003). He worked very hard, despite his economic status to become the success that
he was and still is today. His work ethic and mindset are what pushed him to keep going, even when
things were not going his way. He stated, You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is
the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars, (Ford, 2003). I really like this metaphor of success,
because it is completely true. If we are able to have enthusiasm towards what we are trying to
accomplish, we will be more likely to reach it. This is similar to what a wise professor of mine says, If
your not having fun, you re not learning. Which goes hand in hand with success as well, because if
you are not enjoying what you are doing than you will not have any motivation to

Agent Of National Policy Essay
The agents of the National Policy
The National Policy was the initiative of MacDonald s government. It was designed to secure the
Canadian extension to the western territories for the future settlement and land exploration. The
establishment of the NWMP coincided with the implementation of the policy and subsequently the
first federal agency embraced a vast range of functions to assure its successful realization. At the
beginning of their work the police gave the priority to the Aboriginal issue that included moving bands
to the reserves and sustain peaceful relations with them. When this step was accomplished the
safeguarding of the construction of the CPR, surveillance of the working personal with the purpose of
riot prevention, detection of alcohol and prevention of disorder were assigned to the NWMP. Finally
when the railroad was built and the flow of new settlers contributed to the rapid exploration and
assimilation of new territories, the responsibilities of the police changed respectively. Beahen and
Horral (1998) suggested that the NWMP functions of that period could be grouped into three general
categories: protection of population from natural disasters and social disorder, performance ... Show

Barbara Kruger s work has, and continues to leave a legacy on the world s ideological perspectives.
Barbara scrutinizes the hackneyed society standards of consumerism, greed, sex, religion, and gender.

Barbara Kruger s artwork has caught the attention of mass media for many reasons. Many believe her

speaks on how Kruger uses explicitly and violence in order to raise attention to hidden social violence,

Consequences Of The Mexican War
The Mexican war was a conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848. This war
had gone by various names such as Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847, or Guerra de Estados
Unidos a Mexico. At this point in history, there were multiple people connected such as James Polk,
Abraham Lincoln, and Frederick Douglass. Additional parties that were involved included the
northeasterners, Santa Anna and the Mexican Government, and the modern day Mexican people. This
battle brought a numerous amount of casualties and left a cascade of broken tides. There were over
10,000 people dead and over 3,000 people who had been wounded. The Mexican American war left
behind memories of the redeeming qualities between the United States and Mexico due to a large

Polyethylene Glycol Research Paper
The polymer that I choose is polyethylene glycol (PEG). Polyethylene glycol is produced because of
the interaction with ethylene oxide with water, ethylene glycol or ethylene glycol oligomers. Some
cons of using polyethylene glycol are hypersensitivity, unexpected change in pharmacokinetic
behavior, and toxic side products. PEG is also a laxative that can also be used to prepare the bowels
before surgery. PEG is also used to slow the clearing of protein from the blood. This makes medicine
last longer in the body. Polyethylene glycol has also been used to help the healing of the spine inn
dogs and PEG can also help with nerve damage. PEG is most commonly used with the skin because it

Heart Of Darkness Women Essay
In the Joseph Conrad s novel, Heart of Darkness, Marlow, the main character, shows his opinion of
women in a well masked, descriptive manner. Although women are not given a large speaking role
,the readers still feel their presence throughout the novel. In the scene at the Central Station, the
description of the symbols in the painting, the blindfold, the torch, and the darkness, allow the readers
to see the darkness in the world and the thought that women should not be exposed to that darkness.
Marlow believe that women are too fragile to know the truth and should instead be left in their
beautiful, untouched world.
In the painting, the torch held by the women is meant to portray the potential that women have to help
the darkness that is society. We first receive a taste of his opinion when his aunt finds him a job in the
Company. Marlow states I, Charlie Marlow, set the women to work to get a job. Heavens! (60). This is
referring to the fact that Marlow had to ask for help from his aunt to find a job. This is mostly
embarrassing to Marlow considering he believes women are incapable of anything. He fails to realize

Risk Arbitrage: Abbott Labs Alza
1) How does risk arbitrage work? What are the risks and opportunities associated with this strategy?
Risk arbitrage, or merger and acquisition arbitrage, is one of three types of arbitrage strategies. Two
types of mergers are possible: a cash merger and a stock merger.
Cash Merger Opportunities
Acquirer proposes to purchase the shares of the target for a certain price in cash. Until the acquisition
is completed, the stock of the target usually trades below the purchase price. An arbitrageur buys the
stock of the target and makes a gain if the acquirer ultimately buys the stock.

Potential and Expected Returns
The bet s payoff is reflected in the spread between the market values of consideration to be received in

Henry David Thoreau Symbolism
Henry David Thoreau was a complex writer and used a lot of symbolism to help express some of his
meaning. For example, in Where I Lived, and What I Lived For he used morning and bathing as
symbols for the point he was trying to get across. Thoreau referenced bathing as a religious exercise,
and it was a method of renewing oneself, They say that characters were engraven on the bathing tub of
King Tching thang to this effect: Renew thyself completely each day; do it again, and again, and
forever again (Thoreau 102). Obviously whenever you take a bath you are not going to become a new
person, but Thoreau is saying that bathing in the morning is refreshing and makes you feel fresher and
more motivated throughout the day. To Thoreau morning was, A cheerful invitation to make my life of
equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself (Thoreau 102). He was all about
simplicity which was the main reason that he moved into the woods in the first place. He goes on to

Amusing Ourselves To Death Summary
Neil Postman s book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, discusses how the media has altered the world.
The book, written in 1985, applies to the twenty first century regarding how television, computers,
phones, and many other technologies have affected the world. In Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil
Postman discusses technologies and media. Modern media seduces and imprisons Americans and
transforms them from citizens into consumers. The media and various technologies degrade
democracy. Media and various technologies corrupt Americans and make them more of consumers
than citizens. As Postman talks about in the book, politicians use television and other technologies
only to win votes (Postman 129). The political ads that are available to the public rarely discuss a

entertain. Another example is Sesame Street (Postman 144). Sesame Street encourages children to
start their learning at a very young age, and learn from a place outside of school. The problem with the
show, according to Postman, is that it is a form of entertainment. When children learn from Sesame
Street they begin to think that all learning should be fun and entertaining. Then, when kids enter

Integrated Services Digital Network ( Isdn )
Before we get into the discussion, let s briefly introduce some of the technologies used in WANs and
the different characteristics of each one:
Point to point links
A so called point to point link (Fig. 2.0) provides a pre established WAN communication path from the
user s location trough a telephone company s network, also known as the carrier. For this kind of line,
the carrier dedicates pairs of wire and hardware to that line only. This kind of circuits are priced
depending on bandwidth needed and distance to be covered.
(Figure 2.0 Point to point link)
Circuit Switching
Work like a normal telephone line. Data connections can be started when needed and terminated when
the communication is over. An example of circuit switching is called Integrated Services Digital
Network (ISDN). When a router receives data that s intended to go to a specific remote site, the
switched circuit (Fig. 2.1) is initiated with a specific circuit number for that particular network. As
soon the two networks that are trying to connect get the authentication done, it is possible to transfer
data. When data transmission is over, the communication gets terminated.
(Figure 2.1 Switched Circuit)
Packet Switching
Here users share common carrier resources (Fig. 2.2). This is a more cost effective solution compared
for example to point to point lines. The carrier can make more efficient use of its infrastructure.
Connections into the carrier s network are shared between many customers and

the Christian Based religion since it are the majority since the 1960s and also a lot of the food that are
well known and eaten in the Netherlands are highly associated with Christian holidays and traditions.
(Seth R, 1999)
In terms of the Dutch eating habits its seems that most of the choices are made through culture and
family tradition, since most Dutch people don t eat out regularly, also with Dutch people the main

the University of Washington he develops a special interest in stereotype threat when he sees the
minority students underperforming despite have equal or higher SAT scores upon entering the college.
This is when he really develops his interest in stereotype threat and with fellow colleagues develops a
group of experiments to explore more about this topic. In the first three chapters of this book Steele
sets the stage for the coming experiments, and delves into the process of showing us how stereotype
threat negatively affects our lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains this book is about identity contingencies the things you have to deal with in a situation
because you have a given social identity (pg.3). Steele says that by imposing on us certain conditions
of life, our social identities can strongly affect things as important as our performances in the
classroom and on standardized tests, our memory capacity, our athletic performance, the pressure we
feel to prove ourselves, even the comfort level we have with people of different groups... (pg.4). These
contingences are things people have to deal with every day, things they might not even realize they are

Don Quixote De La Mancha Research Paper
Don Quixote De La Mancha
In the world of literature, there are many great world that blow the minds of readers and historians
everywhere. However none of these works of literature have caused a great effect in the world quite
like Don Quixote De La Mancha, a novel written by Miguel de Cervantes in the 1600s.
Don Quixote de la Mancha is the jewel of Western Literature. It is the most commonly translated and
read book in the universe of Spanish literature, after the bible. It has been translated into more than 60
languages worldwide. It has also been adapted into many films and plays. Now you may be wondering
why exactly Don Quixote de la Mancha has had more success than every other book published. The
reason why this is, is because Don ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He found such books were offensive because they presented fiction under the guise of historical truth.
He yearned to begin a new generation of comedic chivalry romances.
Miguel de Cervantes published the first volume of Don Quixote in 1605 on January 16. Ten years later
Cervantes published the second volume of the book in 1615. Cervantes got the idea for the novel
while spending time in jail for having problems in his job. He had a duty as a tax collector for the
Spanish Government. However he had mathematical conflicts, which were the reason why he ended
up locked away. He performed this job as tax collector as a day job in order to make a living.
Characters From The Novel
Don Quixote: Don Quixote or previously known as Alonso Quixano is a old country hidalgo who lives
in the unknown village of La Mancha. He is a 50 year old, bachelor, and middle class man who lives
with his young niece who is no older than 20 and a fellow housekeeper. Alonso is different and
isolated from society because of his passion for reading books, especially chivalry. However, he has
managed to befriend the village s barber and the church priest. After spending a long time reading
chivalry novels, Alfonso is inspired to embark on a knightly adventure with a fellow squire Sancho
Panza. On this journey, Alonso gives himself a new identity, Don Quixote. On this journey he battles
other knights

Separating Wall Columns Into The Separation Of Liquefied...
A series of articles have been published from the Yeungnam University mainly led by Long and Lee
that relates to the incorporation of dividing wall columns into the separation of liquefied natural gas.
Each base case had slight variances and the proposed dividing wall column design was also
distinctive.
1.5.1.1 First case study
Figure 29 Double Dividing Wall Column for Natural Gas separation (Long and Lee 2011)
In this natural gas liquid (LNG) separation study conducted by Long and Lee (2011), the base
separation system includes a sequence of depropaniser, debutanizer and deisobutanizer which
separated a system the includes ethane, propane, n butane, i butane and heavies (C5+) (Long and Lee
2011). The demethanizer and deethanizer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This arrangement reduced energy costs by 30.5%, which is a large jump from the previous sequence
but there are no logical explanations provides as to how they reached this particular arrangement. The
three columns were then integrated into a single Agrawal column (figure 20) with a pressure of 14 bar,
but this resulted in the required energy increasing by 13.5% from the conventional sequence showing
the unsuitability of integrating the three columns into one (Long and Lee 2011).
1.5.1.2 Second case study
In a second study conducted by Long and Lee (2012), they aimed at optimising and integrating a
deethanizer and depropaniser, which operate at 30.98 and 17.5 bar respectively. The inspiration of this
particular study came from a patented document conducted in 1996 that presented improvements in
demethanizing and deethanizing stages of Liquefied Natural Gas separation (Manley 1997). This can
be challenging as a balance between a high and low pressure must be found when integrating the two
columns into a single dividing wall column. A high pressure will increase the temperature of the top
stream and lower refrigerant cost but column and equipment wall thickness will have to be
significantly increased. So a balance between the operating and capital cost must be found with the
selection of operating pressure. However Long and Lee (2012) opted to go with a low pressure of
17.5bar to minimise capital costs and reboiler duties resulting in a 31.74% decrease in operating

Director Tim Burton has dictated many films, all containing a similar aspects. However, he expresses a deeper message outside of the grimness and darkness of his films. Four of his motion pictures include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and Big Fish. Within these memories, there is no connection between Wonka and his dad. He learns to disregard how his dad wronged him and begins to focus his energy into what he loves; making candy. His love for the factory and the people inside it became all of what he really knew in life. After Charlie won the factory, he reunited Willy Wonka with his father. Willy learned that in order to have a family, there needs to be a bond; something that was unaccounted for in his life. Charlie then became his new family, and looked after and cared for Willy as if he were a part of the Bucket family. The different types of conflict within Marigolds are man versus man, man versus society, and man versus self because Lizabeth has to face peer pressure, the living conditions brought by the Great Depression, as well as the development of her own emotions. Due to the lack of entertainment, Lizabeth and her friends have to resort to bothering Miss Lottie for fun, and they compel Lizabeth to ransack the marigolds Miss Lottie pours her love into. • 8. The History of Television Essay Many Americans today go home and flip on the television, but many do not take the time to think about the complexity of this great invention that is common to us. Nearly sixty years ago television barely existed and was not thought to be used as a broad communicator like it is used in today s generation. Through its starting, stopping, then restarting in the 1940 s, television took off and expanded greatly in just a few short decades and had great technological breakthroughs to allow it a widespread range of uses. Though technologies existed in the forties, the great advancement and possibility that television would have, were not yet explored. Just as the radio, television was a process being experimented with, worked, and transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... America as a whole was still on edge of this new breakthrough, much like the decades before when they first experienced the radio. David Sarnoff, under employment at RCA, an invested radio company who took great interest in the television realm, thought to change the perception of how many people viewed television. Instead of making it just for informational guidance, he wanted to make it a part of every day life for Americans. With the help of his company he developed tubes, lenses, cameras, and other new tools in technology that later led to the great development we have today. At the end of the decade RCA had more than 3 experimental versions of television sets with color. By the end of the 40 s the television industry had been well established. In 1947, President Harry Truman delivered his state of the union address and the baseball World Series were both televised. There were three major networks in America that had successful lineups. NBC, CBS, and DuMont were the most successful. Both CBS and NBC networks began a nightly fifteen minute segment newscast. In 1949, the price of TV sets went down, leading to Americans purchasing 100,00 sets per week. Growing away from their once reservation of television, many Americans were starting to see the value of television between its use of communication and the use of generating a profit from it. The high demand for television sets grew to a mandate of television programs in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Spanish American War 98 Analysis In 1898, the United States intervened in a conflict in which Cuba was attempting to gain independence from Spain. The United States interposed their selves after a Naval ship, the USS Maine, was destroyed. The journalism at the time, yellow journalism to be specific, blamed Spain for the sinking of the battleship, and so the United States decided to step in. John Lukacs, an American Hungarian author, wrote The Meaning of 98 as an examination of the crucial parts of and leading up to The Spanish American War. Although, after the war, Spain went nowhere but up. That was not a blessing in disguise , thats called hitting an all time low. Once Spain hit rock bottom, they had nowhere to go but up. Reflection On Managing A Team In the past I have worked for some really good managers and some not so good ones, however, what I realized is that while they may have done the basic requirements to manage the people under them, they did not do so efficiently and effectively. This is something that pricked me and then I realised that I needed to learn and overcome this shortcoming and manage my team in a more effective and efficient way. When this course was offered for the first time in our program it grabbed my attention as it fit perfectly in what I wanted to tailor within myself as a future manager. These are my learnings and how I wish to reform myself. Our first class focused on Forming Teams and Introductions It started in a very friendly manner and through an introductory exercise, every individual had to talk spontaneously about their positive qualities and how each of us could benefit from the other and bring the same to the team. For me the question, what each individual could add to the team really stood out because everyone had something unique to say about themselves and I will certainly use it in the future while forming teams. Later, we had a small team exercise of making 15 paper airplane and this exercise taught us the Forming part of the team model that is how to adapt quickly in a new team, help each other and come up with a solution. The butterfly effect is a theoretical example of chaos theory. The main premise of latter is that small changes in initial condition results in vast differences in final outcome. This theory proposes that even small changes in initial conditions (such as rounding off of errors in numerical computation) results in vast differences in final outcomes for such systems. Risk arbitrage, or merger and acquisition arbitrage, is one of three types of arbitrage strategies. Two types of mergers are possible: a cash merger and a stock merger. Cash Merger Opportunities Acquirer proposes to purchase the shares of the target for a certain price in cash. Until the acquisition is completed, the stock of the target usually trades below the purchase price. • 36. Henry David Thoreau Symbolism Henry David Thoreau was a complex writer and used a lot of symbolism to help express some of his meaning. For example, in Where I Lived, and What I Lived For he used morning and bathing as symbols for the point he was trying to get across. Thoreau referenced bathing as a religious exercise, and it was a method of renewing oneself, They say that characters were engraven on the bathing tub of King Tching thang to this effect: Renew thyself completely each day; do it again, and again, and forever again (Thoreau 102). Obviously whenever you take a bath you are not going to become a new person, but Thoreau is saying that bathing in the morning is refreshing and makes you feel fresher and more motivated throughout the day. To Thoreau morning was, A cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself (Thoreau 102). He was all about simplicity which was the main reason that he moved into the woods in the first place. He goes on to claim that the morning time is one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book, written in 1985, applies to the twenty first century regarding how television, computers, phones, and many other technologies have affected the world. In Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman discusses technologies and media. Modern media seduces and imprisons Americans and transforms them from citizens into consumers. The media and various technologies degrade democracy. Media and various technologies corrupt Americans and make them more of consumers than citizens. As Postman talks about in the book, politicians use television and other technologies only to win votes (Postman 129). The political ads that are available to the public rarely discuss a candidate s ideas and honest thoughts. More times than not, political ads are used to entertain viewers, and this ... Another example is Sesame Street (Postman 144). Sesame Street encourages children to start their learning at a very young age, and learn from a place outside of school. The problem with the show, according to Postman, is that it is a form of entertainment. When children learn from Sesame Street they begin to think that all learning should be fun and entertaining. • 38. Integrated Services Digital Network ( Isdn ) Before we get into the discussion, let s briefly introduce some of the technologies used in WANs and the different characteristics of each one: Point to point links A so called point to point link (Fig. 2.0) provides a pre established WAN communication path from the user s location trough a telephone company s network, also known as the carrier. For this kind of line, the carrier dedicates pairs of wire and hardware to that line only. This kind of circuits are priced depending on bandwidth needed and distance to be covered. (Figure 2.0 Point to point link) Circuit Switching Work like a normal telephone line. Data connections can be started when needed and terminated when the communication is over. An example of circuit switching is called Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). When a router receives data that s intended to go to a specific remote site, the switched circuit (Fig. 2.1) is initiated with a specific circuit number for that particular network. As soon the two networks that are trying to connect get the authentication done, it is possible to transfer data. When data transmission is over, the communication gets terminated. (Figure 2.1 Switched Circuit) Packet Switching Here users share common carrier resources (Fig. 2.2). This is a more cost effective solution compared for example to point to point lines. The carrier can make more efficient use of its infrastructure. Connections into the carrier s network are shared between many customers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A series of articles have been published from the Yeungnam University mainly led by Long and Lee that relates to the incorporation of dividing wall columns into the separation of liquefied natural gas. Each base case had slight variances and the proposed dividing wall column design was also distinctive. 1.5.1.1 First case study Figure 29 Double Dividing Wall Column for Natural Gas separation (Long and Lee 2011) In this natural gas liquid (LNG) separation study conducted by Long and Lee (2011), the base separation system includes a sequence of depropaniser, debutanizer and deisobutanizer which separated a system the includes ethane, propane, n butane, i butane and heavies (C5+) (Long and Lee 2011). The demethanizer and deethanizer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This arrangement reduced energy costs by 30.5%, which is a large jump from the previous sequence but there are no logical explanations provides as to how they reached this particular arrangement. The three columns were then integrated into a single Agrawal column (figure 20) with a pressure of 14 bar, but this resulted in the required energy increasing by 13.5% from the conventional sequence showing the unsuitability of integrating the three columns into one (Long and Lee 2011). 1.5.1.2 Second case study In a second study conducted by Long and Lee (2012), they aimed at optimising and integrating a deethanizer and depropaniser, which operate at 30.98 and 17.5 bar respectively. The inspiration of this particular study came from a patented document conducted in 1996 that presented improvements in demethanizing and deethanizing stages of Liquefied Natural Gas separation (Manley 1997). This can be challenging as a balance between a high and low pressure must be found when integrating the two columns into a single dividing wall column. A high pressure will increase the temperature of the top stream and lower refrigerant cost but column and equipment wall thickness will have to be significantly increased. So a balance between the operating and capital cost must be found with the selection of operating pressure. However Long and Lee (2012) opted to go with a low pressure of 17.5bar to minimise capital costs and reboiler duties resulting in a 31.74% decrease in operating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
