The Benefits of Humor for Our Health Essay
Norman Cousins said, Laughter is a powerful way to tap positive emotions (Moss 1). Humor is
studied by many researchers in sociology, psychology, art, literature, and medicine. When people
wonder whether humor aids in areas other than health, a treasure trove of possible benefits to the
learning or educational community is opened up. Humor can be used as a tool to promote
learning.Research speaks to the many benefits of humor in healing, to its benefits in the classroom or
boardroom, from reducing stress of students or employees, to boosting self esteem and feelings of
camaraderie. Additionally, studies show that those who use humor to convey a message are often more
favorably perceived. Humor helps deliver the presenter s message to ... Show more content on

Cruthirds reviews the benefits of using humor in the workplace. He advocates taking it more seriously
by making it a multifunctional management tool that can be used to achieve many objectives
(Romero, Cruthirds). The findings encourage a more strategic use of humor, similar to selecting the
proper tool from a toolkit in order to achieve positive outcomes for the organization (Romero,
Cruthirds). Humor can generate benefits in terms of organizational citizenship, managerial behavior
and, workforce creativity. As more studies point to the benefits of humor in the workplace, more
managers are being instructed on how to use this important resource or tool to better manage their

Peter Paul Rubens Prometheus Bound
As a child, I traveled to Europe and visited various museums that housed numerous famous paintings.
I remember walking into museums and not understanding anything, I could never actually understand
the sheer brilliance behind these works of art. Now, after taking this Art History course, I can safely
say that I understand and appreciate art a lot more. I would love to go visit all those museums again,
just to see the art works from a completely different perspective. When I saw the Sistine Chapel a few
years ago, I thought it was absolutely beautiful, but I didn t really know what the paintings stood for
therefore seeing it now would be a completely different experience. After visiting the Philadelphia
Museum of Art, there was one painting that really stood out for me, Prometheus Bound by Peter Paul
Rubens
Peter Paul Rubens too was a Flemish born artist, who was born in Germany and was known for the
Baroque style, which is a type of European architecture. This painting was one of the leading
examples of Baroque art. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The color and lighting used in this painting help heighten and bring out the emotions that are being
shown. This particular method, known as chiaroscuro, interplays light and dark shades to give more
meaning to the subject. The illumination of Prometheus highlights his goodness and purity as
compared to the darker tones that are used in the depiction and the background of the eagle
characterizing it s evil and morbid nature. Additionally, Prometheus is clad only a blue and white
cloth. Traditionally blue has always been the color of protection, used to ward off evil, and white is
known as the color of purity. The apparent break of dawn in the backdrop could also depict hope,
perhaps in some way foreshadowing Prometheus eventual rescue by

Blade Runner And Post-Modernism
As Gojira (1954) directly involves with a real political subject of atomic bombs, and conveys the
political ideology by creating a fictional monster, Blade Runner (1982) discusses an issue of post
modernism and attacks post modernist ideology by setting the location in a fictional and imaginative
world (Dienstag 2015; Williams 1988). The environment of Blade Runner is a dystopic world by
where the audiences observe the political implication of Blade Runner society and the exhaustion of
modern ideologies. In Blade Runner, the replicants are a form of living mirror of ourselves. In the
opening scene of Blade Runner, the audiences see a close up of an eye reflecting the incredible
landscape of the city. The eye motif recurs throughout the film, and argues that the image of eye plays
an important role in the story: the Voight Kampf test eliciting an emotional response to identify
whether an entity is a human or a replicant; the replicants searching a way to the Tyrell Corporation
and interrogating an engineer of replicants, Tyrell; and the leader of replicants, playing with artificial
eyes when becoming a friend with the genetic designer and, takes out the eyes of Tyrell when he was
informed that his life cannot be extended (Dienstag 2015). By recurring the eye motifs, Blade Runner
may encourage to view that the replicant signifies a physical exchange of views between two live
entities (Dienstag 2015; Williams 1988). This may suggest the audiences that replicants are no

took place in France 1412. Have you ever heard the name Jeanne D Arc while how about Joan of Arc?
You may not know who she is but let me tell you she was important. Why was she important because
Joan of Arc heard voices, she went into battle, and she was burned alive.
When Joan of Arc was just 13 she started hearing voices and seeing for what she said were from god,
saints, and angels. She grew up in the town of Domremy and was very religious. At first the voices

Analysis Of Ben Johnson And Christopher Marlow Essay
Now, you all know about the famous playwright William Shakespeare. However, do you know about
the other famous play writers of the time? Now, your reaction might be, Wait, huh? There were other
playwrights during Shakespeare s time? Yes there were, and they were actually quite famous. Two of
the most prominent ones were Ben Johnson and Christopher Marlow. Today, we mainly focus on
Shakespeare and his works. However, each of these men were making plenty of moolah back in the
day. They even each other and had very light rivalries. I will be talking about these two men s works
and how they affected Elizabethan drama. (Volunteer doopededoo) So, let s start with Ben Johnson.
This man was first born in London, England in 1572, just nine years after Shakespeare was born.
Shortly after little Ben was born, his dear sweet father died. His mother, being, you know, poor,
remarried a bricklayer. Ben would then go to the St. Martin s Parish school and learn about many
classical figures, such as the scholar William Camden. After graduating, Ben became a bricklayer, just
like his new father! Yet, he didn t really like this too much, so he went to serve in the military at
Flanders. Yet, he didn t really like this either. So, he decided to be an actor instead! Ben was finally on
the road to making some great literary works! In 1594, Ben married Anne Lewis and had too beautiful
children. Besides this, we don t know much about his family. Ben described his wife as

Essay On The Mayan Ballgame Sacrifice
In the realm of the Classic Maya ballgame, there is much speculation based off carvings, and there
exists little concrete knowledge. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where sacrificial
events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act of sacrifice on
the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political lens, that the Ancient
Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of war, to play for their life; it
was a political game to emphasize who was the stronger and authoritative society. However, Freidel,
Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens, see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment
of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins. Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using
archeological proof, is more convincing because Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol
Vuh, written much later than the actual events it accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a
distorted story. Miller and Houston argue for the ballgame as a game for the ... Show more content on

ballgame appeased the Lords of Death. But, furthermore, Freidel, Schele, and Parker believe that the
physical ball court was a source or opening to the underworld where Mayans could interact with the
supernatural. In the Popol Vuh, the ballgame is refered to as hom, which is a word that means chasm

software firms offer limited period trials and so on. While the marketing literature confirms product
trial efficacy over advertising (Marks and Kamins 1988; Smith 1993; Wright and Lynch 1995), the
extant literature does not have an answer to questions that marketing practitioners may have Why
consumers tend to dislike products after an initial positive response during product trial? Why
consumers tend to start developing an affinity for products over extended use despite having not liked

Capital Gains and Dividends
Capital Gains and Dividends Under a source concept of capital gains, the business is the source from
which gains flow; how does this differ from the trust concept of income from a business? The trust
concept of income from a business indicates that the business is being managed in a particular way.
When a business is in trust, there is a requirement that it be managed ethically (Unit 2, n.d.). That
includes the income the business receives. This is very different from the way a standard business is
run, because a trustee operates the business and is in charge of managing the income that comes from
the business while it is in trust, along with other aspects of the business (Unit 2, n.d.). Overall, the
income that arrives at a business while it is in trust is under much more scrutiny than income that
comes into a standard business. While it is not taxed any differently than regular income, there is more
scrutiny regarding it. Additionally, the capital gains concept is changed when the business is in trust,
because the trustee and the business are not the same entity. Even if the business is making money,
that money may not be able to be classified and taxed in the same way as it would be without being in
trust (Unit 2, n.d.). What is the reasoning for excluding inter corporate dividends (drd s)? Inter
corporate dividends are seen differently from other types of dividends, capital gains, and income.
These kinds of dividends have been subject to double taxation

African Indigenous Religions Essay
Introduction
African traditional religions were the first recorded religions to grace the plains and coasts of Southern
Africa and possibly even the world. The earliest group of people living in Southern Africa has been
named the San people. It was thought that San etchings and implements found in caves dated back to
between 10 000 and 20 000 years ago (Deacon, 1999). However in 2008 the oldest art to date was
found in a cave in Still Bay in Cape Town, called the Blombos cave. It was named by Christopher
Henshilwood and dates back to 77,000 years (Wits, 2014). This rock art is the earliest depiction of
religious experience and belief.
A later group of indigenous people that existed in Southern Africa were the Bantu Speaking Farmers .

depicted these experiences by painting them on cave walls (Deacon, 1999).

Trench Warfare In The Trenches Essay
Soldiers within the trenches would illustrate their despair by singing, We re here because we re here,
we re here because we re here, we re here because we re here, we re here because we re here. World
War 1 was ignited and many perceived it would be quick and easy. However, as trenches were dug,

Thus, trenches began to connect, so a soldier could be supplied with food, mail from their family,
ammunition, and fresh troops. Later, trenches contained first aid stations, and some even small
kitchens. Most importantly, there were machine gun stations that would aid a soldier under attack, and
dugouts that would sustain a large amount of troops during an assault. Most soldiers could spend up to
two weeks in a trench at a time if they lived through it. First, they would spend time in the front line
trench, fighting the enemy. Then, they would progress to the support trenches, and later rest. Even if
the soldiers were not fighting, they were put to repair the trenches, move supplies, clean weapons, and
undergo inspection or guard duty. Trenches had to be repaired constantly due to bombardment from

Overview of the Fall Prevention Program
The Fall Prevention Program Executive Summary The Purpose of the Program According to the Joint
Commission Resources JCR (2005), there is no universally accepted definition of a fall. Thus several
definitions have been floated over time in an attempt to define the same. One such definition of a fall
is an untoward event that results in the patient or resident coming to rest unintentionally on the ground
or another lower surface (Joint Commission Resources, 2005). Falls are regarded common causes of
injury at every age. However, it is important to note that for seniors, falls can have serious
consequences. This is more so the case given that a fall can bring about pain, trauma, or even death.
With that in mind, the primary purpose of this program remains the reduction of falls and hence the
aversion of related injuries amongst the concerned patients. Of key importance remains the
identification of patients who appear to be at high risk of falling. This way, appropriate strategies can
be developed to reduce the injuries related to inpatient falls. The Target Population/Audience
According to the Joint Commission Resources (2005), falls are the ¦primary etiology of accidental
deaths in persons over the age of 65. However, it is important to note that in the opinion of JCR, the
injury rate happens to be highest amongst those aged 85 years and above. To highlight the seriousness
of the issue, the commission further points out that the number of deaths associated with

Mass Communication Theory
Introduction
Mass society theory is an idea that media has strong influence towards people, it plays a role of
shaping people s mind and perception of the social world and it is also to manipulate people s action
with delicate, subtle and effective ways (Baran and Davis 2006, p.43). Mass society theory has first
introduced in the nineteenth century when there are disruptive consequences caused by modernization
(Baran and Davis 2006, p.52). At that time, mass media considered as a cause of social problems

A variety of classic sound effects replicated the projection on screen in order to specify even further
the actions being performed such as using the telephone, riding in an elevator, arriving at a train stop,
and driving in a car. The sound effects created a connection to a more traditional sense of theatre
amongst the new technological addition of projectors. With the busyness of the opening scene, a
spotlight was used to appear on each actor as they spoke. This made it clear to the audience where
they should be looking and it lessened the overwhelming feeling of multiple people being on stage at
once. After the opening, the actors took off their own set pieces making for a quick and smooth
transition into the next scene. The cage surrounding the stage was diversely used as walls, doors, and
even an elevator. A separate cage piece was often lowered from above to divide the stage in half from
left to right when the whole stage did not need to be used. I specifically admired that many of the set
pieces had versatile purposes, such as the couch also being used as the back seat of a taxi or the front

Free Doctor Assisted Suicide Within Canada
In late February 2016, a recent debate among Canadian politicians arose on whether mature minors
have the right to access doctor assisted suicide within Canada. In Canadian Paediatric Society1 article,
it explains how the government has a three year deadline in order to create new legislation. However,
the the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) believes that this three year deadline Is not enough time to
gather adequate and appropriate information on whether this practice should be allowed to be
extended to minors under the age of 18. Currently, the CPS believes that it will be very hard to
develop any data the experience of physician assisted deaths among adults, within the next 3 years.
The CPS stated that Without that data, and a great deal of other information, it is premature to set a
deadline for enacting legislation (2016). The CBC brought up valuable points to the cause, firstly that
age is arbitrary . Dr. Smith stated in the CBC article that there are some people who are 21, while there
are those that are 14, and have the maturity to give consent, he went on to explain that he feels that
this topic should go to even younger children. Later in the article Conservative MP Mike Cooper said
that this was illogical and that those not old enough to vote should not have the right to choose if they
live or die. The CBC went on to reiterate what the CPS article was about, saying that with such little
data on the subject, and with two very distinct sides to this ethical

Environmental Determinism In Ancient Greece
Environmental determinism essentially means where you live has a direct correlation with how you
live. Countries that need to focus on hunting and gathering cannot focus on other aspects of their
society like military power, religion, technology and education. Geographic luck is another factor of
environmental determinism. Geographic luck means that people have strong advantages to their lives
because of where they currently live. Environmental determinism allowed countries to grow their
military power and allowed them to enhance their weaponry, which was shown during the
Peloponnesian War, the Punic Wars and the Viking Invasions. During the period of Ancient Greece,
the Peloponnesian War showed military changes because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The city state of Syracuse in Sicily was allied with Sparta and when they attacked a tribe called the
Leontini, Cleon chose to help fight back. He chose to fight against Syracuse for the reason that he
wanted to weaken the Spartans because their grain supply came from Syracuse. The Spartans used
Cleon s over aggressiveness against him, by setting up a Spartan colony named Heraclea right near
Athens. This forced Athens to make a decision of sending its troops to Syracuse and getting attacked
in Athens, or not attacking Syracuse altogether. This goes back to environmental determinism again,
because generals such as Brasidas of Sparta was able to come up with this plan, because the Spartans
had a growing and strong enough colony that they did not need to focus on hunting and gathering and
could focus on military matters. Focusing on military matters helped the Spartans again when the
Athenians attacked the city state Boetia. This was important for the Athenians, because Boetia was a
short distance away from them and did not want to get attacked, as well as they needed morale boost
because they were losing the war, however the Spartans outsmarted them. When the Athenians were
attacking and the fight seemed to be over, Boetia brought out their two hidden lines of cavalrymen and

Why Kids Should Be Able To Graduate In Three Years
Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That s a
student every 26 seconds or 7,000 a day. Students should be able to graduate in three years because
some kids want to go to college as early as possible, it would allow people to get better jobs at a
younger age, and it would cause less drop outs because they could finish it in less time and graduate

St. Paul s Missions Essay
Introduction/Thesis The Apostle Paul (formerly Saul) is responsible for the spread of Christianity
throughout the areas of Asia Minor and Greece. Through his 3 mission trips to the region Paul created
a base of support for the Christian faith and implemented a support strategy for future growth. The
time period for his journeys was 45 AD 58 AD. The story of Paul is interesting from the perspective
that the man best known as the author of most of the New Testament started out as a devout Jew and
despised the Christian faith. After his conversion he made it his life s work to spread the Christian
message throughout the world. To this end, Paul made several mission trips to the area of Asia Minor
and Greece. Background The Apostle Paul ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Paul reflects on his escape he starts to understand the need for reliance on another power (as in
God) After this Paul goes to Jerusalem, meets Barnabas, and is introduced to the Apostles. Paul stays
here for 15 days; during that time he preaches the gospel to the people of Jerusalem. For the second
time, Paul is driven out of a city in fear of his life. According to Acts 22:17; Paul was in the temple
and fell into a trance. God warned him to leave the city. Paul escaped to Caesarea, on to Cilicia Syria,
then to his hometown of Tarsus. Paul s plan for evangelism led him to what was considered the
civilized world of the Roman Empire, leaving to others the centers of Judaism Palestine, Alexandria,
and Babylon. Paul s movement westward was from Antioch to Cilicia, Galatia and Pamphylia, Asia
Minor, Macedonia and Greece, Italy, and Spain. Paul s strategic plan was to stretch churches and the
gospel from Antioch throughout the entire region. Paul s strategy was to take his teachings to the
metropolis areas instead of the smaller cities and towns. His thought was that his influence in these
large areas would bring others that could carry on his teachings into these regions. As past history
shows, Paul s timeframe for teaching is limited due to being driven out of the cities by force before his
work was completed. There were 2 cities where he was able to spend considerable time, Corinth and
Ephesus. These cities were of utmost importance to him and were

Australian Bungalow In The 1920 s
As Australian architects were often inspired by international designs many houses were decorative
thus there was the emergence of the Californian Bungalow within the 1920s. This housing structure
began during the early nineteen twenties which became a leading fashion (Boyd, 1962, p.70). Due to
the fact that Australian designs were not as independent as it is today the Californian Bungalow was
mainly influenced from the American Californian Bungalows. The bungalows in Australia was an
approved style for a suburban house as a result of its simplistic building methods such as staining
timbers, creating a pale plaster surface and applying decorative textures on plywood (Cuffley, 2007).
Hence, the bungalows was a start of a new way of living for

The Legacy Of The United States
Democracy is the feat on which the united states prides itself. This democracy was built over the ages
and over many events through trial and error. By analyzing the history of the Monroe Doctrine, the
two elections in which Andrew Jackson was voted a president, the theory of John C. Calhoun, and the
Cherokee Nation vs Jackson trail we can arrive at the strengths and shortcomings of the American
democracy in the period between 1820 and 1836.
After the revolutionary war and the war of 1812 the United States had to enforce their independence
and establish themselves as a political entity. This declaration of their political influence came in the
form of the Monroe doctrine. A document that was written by President Monroe. The doctrine had ...

The democratic republican party which ran uncontested in the elections of 1824 had split due to a rift
which was created between the ideas of nationalism and sectionalism. On one side Andrew Jackson
ran with his Jacksonian Democracy platform and Adams who has now been considered and elitist.
However, the expansion of democracy came from the states new relaxed voting laws which in
Pennsylvania went as far as allowing all adult males, while in other states had a requirement of being a
taxpayer like in the case of Tennessee. This is clearly the main factor in the doubling of the voter
participation rising from 26.9 to 57.6 percent. At the same time states were abolishing appointment
and moving into popular vote for many positions like state officials and judges. In fact, South Carolina
was the only state in which appointment prevailed by 1832. These two changes also inspired a reform
in the political thinking and electioneering bringing a new type of politician on the pedestal: the
politician who has good popular appeal, a powerful voice, and great leadership skills. The politician
who can rally the people and excite them.
During the next elections in 1832 a third part joined in response to a despotic conspiracy which was
theorized against the Masonic fraternal order. This party called themselves the Anti Masonic party, and
believed that the masons are puppeteering the government. Their goals and ideas aside, they

favoured and believed to be superior to women, which still exists in some third world countries, such
as Afghanistan. F. Scott Fitzgerald s classic novel, The Great Gatsby, portrays how women were

by seeking them for their own pleasure and disrespect them, so too does Tom towards Myrtle not only
as he seeks her based on his schedule for his own pleasure, but also as he broke her nose with his open

Jordan Baker takes on the role of a strong female figure in the novel. She takes action when she meets
Nick, as she held [his] hand impersonally (44), compared to the other women like Daisy, who are
passive. She also is involved in golf, which is not the typical woman during the 1920s. She earns her

strong figure as she is independent. Similar to Lauren Conrad from the reality show, The Hills, who is

Daisy Buchanan plays the role of a materialistic female. She relies on her husband, Tom Buchanan s

The Influence Of Beliefs In The Canterbury Tales
Barna surveyed 718 self identified Christians from a variety of denominations to find what extent their
actions and attitudes line up with Jesus s. Researchers found only 1 in 7 Christians manages to hold
Christ like beliefs and also act in Christ like ways (Steffan). Chaucer depicts a group of twenty nine
diverse travelers on a pilgrimage to Canterbury to visit the grave of St. Thomas a Becket. Many of the
religious figures from the tales fail to measure up to the actions and attitudes of Christ as well. It is
ironic because their attitudes consist of helping people and honesty but their actions show a
completely different image. In The Canterbury Tales, the Nun, the Monk, and the Pardoner are rich,
which is ironic because they take a vow of poverty. Chaucer manifests the Nun s true character
through her actions and appearance. One way he shows her true character is through her clothing. The
text reads, She wore a coral trinket on her arm, a set of beads, the gaudies tricked in green (l. 156
157). The Nun wore expensive jewelry and clothing which suggests she believes more in worldliness
instead of poverty. She should not have money to afford her expensive clothing and jewelry because
she took a vow of poverty. The vow of poverty dedicated her life to the church and she goes against
the vow by being rich. Another way Chaucer shows the Nun s true character is through her emotions.
For example, She used to weep if she but saw a mouse caught in a trap, if it were dead

Write An Essay On Squid Research Papers
we all exist in a world populated with our fellow creatures. The study of interactions between
organisms and their environments is called ecology, and in the ecology of the open ocean, Humboldt
squid stand front and center. They are hunted and consumed throughout their lives by a wide variety
of predators. The squid themselves are also voracious generalist predators, meaning that they eat a
wide variety of prey, and lots of it. And, like all animals, Humboldt squid play the ecological role of
host to numerous parasites. A single female Humboldt squid can lay millions of eggs, of which only a
few will survive to adulthood. The rest provide a high protein buffet for any marine life that can catch
them, their vast numbers creating a significant source of food for small predators. Once they grow up,
Humboldt squid are too large to be eaten by the predators that stalked them when they were young,
but there are plenty of larger predators out there. Tuna, sharks, dolphins, and especially sperm whales
love to chow down on Humboldt squid. In fact, sperm whales in the Gulf of California live almost
entirely on Humboldt squid. And of course, humans catch and eat hundreds of thousands of tons of
Humboldt squid every year. But Humboldt squid are hardly ecological victims they know how to do

One issue that nobody pays attention to is, bees. Most people believe that bees are killers and horrible
bugs, but what they don t know is that without bees, there are less and less food. Although they are

won t be anymore foods from almonds to strawberries. Some possible solutions to this problem are
reducing the amount of pesticides, grow plants, buy local raw honey, protect pollinators, and
understand that bees aren t there to hurt you. The amount of pesticides you use, the amount of bees

The more nectar they suck, the more honey we receive, which is really good for us. Just planting

That s why you should buy local, raw honey. For your own personal health, strive to buy local, raw
honey that is from hives that are not treated by chemicals (Queen of the Sun). Don t just help the bees,
but also help yourself. If you protect pollinators, then you would be saving so many bees. A pollinator

to accomplish fertilization or syngamy of the female gametes in the ovule of the flower by the male
gametes from the pollen grain (Wikipedia). The pollinators are the ones that provide nectar for bees.
Lastly, bees are there to make food, not to hurt you. As I said, bees only cause damage when they feel
danger. When bees use their stinger, they end up dying. Be aware when you see a bee next

The Rhetoric Of The Cuban Revolution
These last few lines are interesting for various reasons. First, it is a fine example of a message that
Castro often employs which is the sacrifice of the individual in favor of the betterment of the country
as a whole (Valdés 31). Part of the way to gain the people s support was to obtain Legitimacy derived
from service, not self interest (Valdés 31). Castro makes himself sound like a martyr as he talks about
the torture and belittlement he says he will endure while imprisoned. The historical experiences not
only led to this idea of painting self interest as bad, but also led to a way of legitimizing actions. The
last famous last line in which the title comes from actually was paraphrase of a quote given by José

It is a common criticism of the theory because many see it as not concerning itself enough with Latin
American countries. An example of this would be how the writers of The Empire Writes Back
identified countries who were seen as postcolonial when they wrote, So the literatures of African
countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand,
Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all postcolonial literatures.
(Ashcroft, Griffiths, Tiffin 2). Only the mention of Caribbean countries signify the inclusion of Latin
America to the theory, and even then the countries are far outnumbered by the rest. There was also a
tendency of these authors to focus on former colonies of the British empire (Walden 61). However,
because this theory consists of such factors as trade and conquest and these former colonies reactions
to them there is a place for Latin America as a whole in the context of this theory. Countries such as
Cuba and Mexico, are still experiencing the effects of their history with colonialism and have used
writing as a way to obtain agency. This is seen through the discourse of revolutionaries like Castro and
Che, and later on from Subcommander Marcos. They use their respective country s history to further

The Essential Compound of Water on Earth
Formed by two bonded hydrogens and an oxygen atom it is the second most essential compound to
life on Earth, water. However, less than four percent of it is available for human consumption; it may
be found in a liquid state or as water vapor within the atmosphere. As society progresses in becoming
more populous and industrialized so does the demand for fresh water, thus scientists have and
continue to experiment with adding particles to clouds in order to aid in creating precipitation. In
nature, water continuously moves between the Earth and atmosphere through a process known as the
hydrologic cycle. Evaporation and transportation cause water to rise, as warm air rises it becomes
cooler and causes condensation, the droplets increase in size until the upward movement of air cannot
support it (nucleation), and thus falls to the ground. It should be noted that warm air has the ability to
hold more vapor than cold air and cloud formation occurs due to air becoming supersaturated.
Conversely, nucleation does not always occur due to the cloud not being cold enough, we are then
introduced to the process of cloud seeding (Lenschow).
The inorganic compound silver iodide (AgI) is sprayed or launched into the atmosphere as tiny
particles that attract water molecules causing them to nucleate and fall to the ground as precipitation.
Cloud seeding started it s formation when Vincent Schaefer, a self taught chemist in New York,
attempted to get artificial clouds to produce

Minnie Wright, John Wright s wife, murdered him. Both of Glaspell s female characters illustrate the
ability to step into a male dominated profession by taking on the role of detective. According to
Critical Theory Today: A User Friendly Guide written by Lois Tyson, a reader response critique
focuses on an individual s response to a literary text. Reader response criticism maintains that what a
text is cannot be separated from what it does (Tyson 170). There are several different approaches to
reader response theory that I would be applying, such as transactional reader response theory and
affective stylistics. Firstly, transactional reader response theory analyzes the transaction between text

American Character Then and Now
A notion that still holds strong today, Fredrick Jackson Turner s idea of American character was one
based on trials and experiences. Unlike Crevecour, Turner believed that American character was not
simply a product of English character transported to America, but rather another idea altogether
(Faragher 63). He expressed this opinion the best when he said, In the crucible of the frontier the
immigrants were Americanized, liberated, and fused into a mixed race, English in neither nationality
nor characteristics (Faragher 64). How exactly did American character form and what defines ... Show

The combination of the Turner thesis and Peck s translation of it, provided a foundation that would
help form American identity: individualism and collectivity. A perfect example of this today is the
sport of baseball, America s pastime.
By the time Turner presented his thesis in 1893 at the Colombian Exhibition in Chicago, the myth of
the cowboy and the myth of the frontier had already made their way into novels for the enjoyment of
east coasters who were curious of the west (Cullen 127). Characters like Buffalo Bill, Nathaniel
(Natty) Bumpo, and Daniel Boone helped illustrated American character. The introduction of she
males, women with feminine and masculine qualities, were also an important feature of these novels
west (Cullen 127). Characters like Jane, from Calamity Jane by Edward L. Wheeler, were like
predecessors of women rights; they were heroines who demanded and received, but remained
kindhearted at the same time (Faber all).
Although all of these characters had a very profound role in molding people s impression of the west,
the novel which combined many individual roles of each western into one was probably The Virginian
by Own Wister. This novel was so influential in helping to engrave American character in that it
incorporated Turner s idea of the disappearing

The Federal Emergency Relief Act, Tennessee Valley...
In 1932 during the worst of the great depression and prior to World War II, President Roosevelt s
administration implemented a series of initiatives or legislative reforms that all fell under the New
Deal. The flood of New Deal legislation that followed produced major changes in government
economy relationships and in government s role in American society generally. (Anderson, 2015, p.
72) Roosevelt s description of the New Deal was that it would help to provide relief, recovery, and
reform; this came to be known as the 3 Rs. Many of the reforms were highly successful like the
Federal Emergency Relief Act, Tennessee Valley Authority, Federal Housing Administration and the
Social Security Act. In 1933 the Rural Rehabilitation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The local welfare employees were actually the ones who chose which families were eligible. Perhaps
the problems began there. There were no requirements except for the employees thinking that the
families had minimal skills and could figure it out for themselves. Once chosen the families had to
decide very quickly if they would be making the move. Due to the short season for farming and
building, some families had only days to decide. The following were the guidelines for choosing a
family.
As far as possible, families should be selected first on their farming ability and secondly, those who
may have secondary skills and who may adjust themselves to a diversified farming activity and can
assist with carpentry on their homes and then those who may know something about machinery and
blacksmithing and who have leadership qualities. (Lundberg, 1998)
Adoption/Implementation
Using our current speed of government projects this resettlement endeavor moved at lightning speed.
The first survey was completed in June of 1934 and FERA agreed to the project in January 1935. It
only took only eight weeks after that to acquire the 260,000 acres for the new colony. A month later in
late April, the construction workers and supplies were enroute to the valley. Three days later, the first
of the colonists left Minnesota! (Lundberg, 1998)
The families traveled to the west coast on the railroad. That first round of families from

King George Sound A Harbour
This essay will look at the area currently known as King George Sound a harbour in Albany, Western
Australia, and how it came to be known as the friendly frontier by many historians after reports of
harmonious behaviour between British explorers, early settlers and the local Aboriginal community.
George Vancouver sailed and moored his ship in a harbour which he named King George the Thirds
Sound after discovering how sound it was for ships while also honouring the king of his time King
George the Third, though in recent times the name has been shortened to King George Sound. There
has been numerous records of European and in particular British explorers and seafarers who visited

It is important to acknowledge that there are many similarities between the encounters of the British
and the Aboriginals here as there are in regions further north, but it is the differences that resulted in
the uncommon friendship that developed in King George Sound. A possible factor for is a the theory
of self fulfilling prophecy developed by Rosenthal and Jacobson in 1968, so when Flinders reported
the friendly and peaceful behaviour displayed by the native Aboriginals, later explorers read the
journal in order to gain a level of knowledge and they were informed to expect welcoming behaviour.
So when the explorers arrived they were friendly toward the local Aboriginals due to the expectations
that were strongly influenced from the knowledge in the journals they read, so it followed that the
Aboriginals responded in kind displaying a friendly nature. So for a number of years this unusually
harmonious relationship was maintained, leading to King George Sound being given the label the
friendly frontier by historian Neville Green.
Philip King was employed to follow in Flinders wake in order to further explore King George Sound,
it was his second visit in 1821 that proved crucial in developing a detail view of

  • 2. The Benefits of Humor for Our Health Essay Norman Cousins said, Laughter is a powerful way to tap positive emotions (Moss 1). Humor is studied by many researchers in sociology, psychology, art, literature, and medicine. When people wonder whether humor aids in areas other than health, a treasure trove of possible benefits to the learning or educational community is opened up. Humor can be used as a tool to promote learning.Research speaks to the many benefits of humor in healing, to its benefits in the classroom or boardroom, from reducing stress of students or employees, to boosting self esteem and feelings of camaraderie. I remember walking into museums and not understanding anything, I could never actually understand the sheer brilliance behind these works of art. Now, after taking this Art History course, I can safely say that I understand and appreciate art a lot more. I would love to go visit all those museums again, just to see the art works from a completely different perspective. When I saw the Sistine Chapel a few years ago, I thought it was absolutely beautiful, but I didn t really know what the paintings stood for therefore seeing it now would be a completely different experience. After visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art, there was one painting that really stood out for me, Prometheus Bound by Peter Paul Rubens Peter Paul Rubens too was a Flemish born artist, who was born in Germany and was known for the Baroque style, which is a type of European architecture. Additionally, Prometheus is clad only a blue and white cloth. Traditionally blue has always been the color of protection, used to ward off evil, and white is known as the color of purity. Blade Runner And Post-Modernism As Gojira (1954) directly involves with a real political subject of atomic bombs, and conveys the political ideology by creating a fictional monster, Blade Runner (1982) discusses an issue of post modernism and attacks post modernist ideology by setting the location in a fictional and imaginative world (Dienstag 2015; Williams 1988). The environment of Blade Runner is a dystopic world by where the audiences observe the political implication of Blade Runner society and the exhaustion of modern ideologies. In Blade Runner, the replicants are a form of living mirror of ourselves. In the opening scene of Blade Runner, the audiences see a close up of an eye reflecting the incredible landscape of the city. The eye motif recurs throughout the film, and argues that the image of eye plays an important role in the story: the Voight Kampf test eliciting an emotional response to identify whether an entity is a human or a replicant; the replicants searching a way to the Tyrell Corporation and interrogating an engineer of replicants, Tyrell; and the leader of replicants, playing with artificial eyes when becoming a friend with the genetic designer and, takes out the eyes of Tyrell when he was informed that his life cannot be extended (Dienstag 2015). By recurring the eye motifs, Blade Runner may encourage to view that the replicant signifies a physical exchange of views between two live entities (Dienstag 2015; Williams 1988). Now, your reaction might be, Wait, huh? There were other playwrights during Shakespeare s time? Yes there were, and they were actually quite famous. Two of the most prominent ones were Ben Johnson and Christopher Marlow. Today, we mainly focus on Shakespeare and his works. However, each of these men were making plenty of moolah back in the day. They even each other and had very light rivalries. I will be talking about these two men s works and how they affected Elizabethan drama. (Volunteer doopededoo) So, let s start with Ben Johnson. This man was first born in London, England in 1572, just nine years after Shakespeare was born. Shortly after little Ben was born, his dear sweet father died. His mother, being, you know, poor, remarried a bricklayer. Ben would then go to the St. Martin s Parish school and learn about many classical figures, such as the scholar William Camden. After graduating, Ben became a bricklayer, just like his new father! Yet, he didn t really like this too much, so he went to serve in the military at Flanders. Yet, he didn t really like this either. • 7. Essay On The Mayan Ballgame Sacrifice In the realm of the Classic Maya ballgame, there is much speculation based off carvings, and there exists little concrete knowledge. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where sacrificial events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act of sacrifice on the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political lens, that the Ancient Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of war, to play for their life; it was a political game to emphasize who was the stronger and authoritative society. However, Freidel, Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens, see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins. Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using archeological proof, is more convincing because Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol Vuh, written much later than the actual events it accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a distorted story. • 9. Capital Gains and Dividends Capital Gains and Dividends Under a source concept of capital gains, the business is the source from which gains flow; how does this differ from the trust concept of income from a business? The trust concept of income from a business indicates that the business is being managed in a particular way. When a business is in trust, there is a requirement that it be managed ethically (Unit 2, n.d.). That includes the income the business receives. This is very different from the way a standard business is run, because a trustee operates the business and is in charge of managing the income that comes from the business while it is in trust, along with other aspects of the business (Unit 2, n.d.). Overall, the income that arrives at a business while it is in trust is under much more scrutiny than income that comes into a standard business. While it is not taxed any differently than regular income, there is more scrutiny regarding it. Additionally, the capital gains concept is changed when the business is in trust, because the trustee and the business are not the same entity. Even if the business is making money, that money may not be able to be classified and taxed in the same way as it would be without being in trust (Unit 2, n.d.). What is the reasoning for excluding inter corporate dividends (drd s)? Inter corporate dividends are seen differently from other types of dividends, capital gains, and income. • 12. Overview of the Fall Prevention Program The Fall Prevention Program Executive Summary The Purpose of the Program According to the Joint Commission Resources JCR (2005), there is no universally accepted definition of a fall. Thus several definitions have been floated over time in an attempt to define the same. One such definition of a fall is an untoward event that results in the patient or resident coming to rest unintentionally on the ground or another lower surface (Joint Commission Resources, 2005). Falls are regarded common causes of injury at every age. However, it is important to note that for seniors, falls can have serious consequences. This is more so the case given that a fall can bring about pain, trauma, or even death. With that in mind, the primary purpose of this program remains the reduction of falls and hence the aversion of related injuries amongst the concerned patients. Of key importance remains the identification of patients who appear to be at high risk of falling. This way, appropriate strategies can be developed to reduce the injuries related to inpatient falls. The Target Population/Audience According to the Joint Commission Resources (2005), falls are the ¦primary etiology of accidental deaths in persons over the age of 65. However, it is important to note that in the opinion of JCR, the injury rate happens to be highest amongst those aged 85 years and above. In Canadian Paediatric Society1 article, it explains how the government has a three year deadline in order to create new legislation. However, the the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) believes that this three year deadline Is not enough time to gather adequate and appropriate information on whether this practice should be allowed to be extended to minors under the age of 18. Currently, the CPS believes that it will be very hard to develop any data the experience of physician assisted deaths among adults, within the next 3 years. Dr. Smith stated in the CBC article that there are some people who are 21, while there are those that are 14, and have the maturity to give consent, he went on to explain that he feels that this topic should go to even younger children. Later in the article Conservative MP Mike Cooper said that this was illogical and that those not old enough to vote should not have the right to choose if they live or die. Geographic luck is another factor of environmental determinism. Geographic luck means that people have strong advantages to their lives because of where they currently live. This forced Athens to make a decision of sending its troops to Syracuse and getting attacked in Athens, or not attacking Syracuse altogether. This goes back to environmental determinism again, because generals such as Brasidas of Sparta was able to come up with this plan, because the Spartans had a growing and strong enough colony that they did not need to focus on hunting and gathering and could focus on military matters. Focusing on military matters helped the Spartans again when the Athenians attacked the city state Boetia. This was important for the Athenians, because Boetia was a short distance away from them and did not want to get attacked, as well as they needed morale boost because they were losing the war, however the Spartans outsmarted them. However, the expansion of democracy came from the states new relaxed voting laws which in Pennsylvania went as far as allowing all adult males, while in other states had a requirement of being a taxpayer like in the case of Tennessee. This is clearly the main factor in the doubling of the voter participation rising from 26.9 to 57.6 percent. At the same time states were abolishing appointment and moving into popular vote for many positions like state officials and judges. In fact, South Carolina was the only state in which appointment prevailed by 1832. The Influence Of Beliefs In The Canterbury Tales Barna surveyed 718 self identified Christians from a variety of denominations to find what extent their actions and attitudes line up with Jesus s. Researchers found only 1 in 7 Christians manages to hold Christ like beliefs and also act in Christ like ways (Steffan). Chaucer depicts a group of twenty nine diverse travelers on a pilgrimage to Canterbury to visit the grave of St. Thomas a Becket. Many of the religious figures from the tales fail to measure up to the actions and attitudes of Christ as well. It is ironic because their attitudes consist of helping people and honesty but their actions show a completely different image. In The Canterbury Tales, the Nun, the Monk, and the Pardoner are rich, which is ironic because they take a vow of poverty. Chaucer manifests the Nun s true character through her actions and appearance. One way he shows her true character is through her clothing. The text reads, She wore a coral trinket on her arm, a set of beads, the gaudies tricked in green (l. 156 157). The Nun wore expensive jewelry and clothing which suggests she believes more in worldliness instead of poverty. She should not have money to afford her expensive clothing and jewelry because she took a vow of poverty. The vow of poverty dedicated her life to the church and she goes against the vow by being rich. Another way Chaucer shows the Nun s true character is through her emotions. The study of interactions between organisms and their environments is called ecology, and in the ecology of the open ocean, Humboldt squid stand front and center. They are hunted and consumed throughout their lives by a wide variety of predators. The squid themselves are also voracious generalist predators, meaning that they eat a wide variety of prey, and lots of it. And, like all animals, Humboldt squid play the ecological role of host to numerous parasites. A single female Humboldt squid can lay millions of eggs, of which only a few will survive to adulthood. The rest provide a high protein buffet for any marine life that can catch them, their vast numbers creating a significant source of food for small predators. Once they grow up, Humboldt squid are too large to be eaten by the predators that stalked them when they were young, but there are plenty of larger predators out there. Tuna, sharks, dolphins, and especially sperm whales love to chow down on Humboldt squid. In fact, sperm whales in the Gulf of California live almost entirely on Humboldt squid. However, less than four percent of it is available for human consumption; it may be found in a liquid state or as water vapor within the atmosphere. As society progresses in becoming more populous and industrialized so does the demand for fresh water, thus scientists have and continue to experiment with adding particles to clouds in order to aid in creating precipitation. In nature, water continuously moves between the Earth and atmosphere through a process known as the hydrologic cycle. Evaporation and transportation cause water to rise, as warm air rises it becomes cooler and causes condensation, the droplets increase in size until the upward movement of air cannot support it (nucleation), and thus falls to the ground. It should be noted that warm air has the ability to hold more vapor than cold air and cloud formation occurs due to air becoming supersaturated. Conversely, nucleation does not always occur due to the cloud not being cold enough, we are then introduced to the process of cloud seeding (Lenschow). The inorganic compound silver iodide (AgI) is sprayed or launched into the atmosphere as tiny particles that attract water molecules causing them to nucleate and fall to the ground as precipitation. At the point when the seats in the front of the transport topped off and more white travelers got on, the transport driver would move back the sign isolating highly contrasting travelers and, if fundamental, ask dark travelers surrender their seat. • 40. Trifles In Susan Glaspell s A Jury Of Her Peers A Jury of Her Peers, a short story written by Susan Glaspell in 1917, is an example of early feminist literature. The female characters, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, are able to solve the mystery of who murdered John Wright while their male counterparts could not. This short story had been adapted from Glaspell s one act play Trifles written the previous year. The play consists of the same characters and plot line as the story. In both works, Glaspell depicts how the men, Sheriff Peters, Mr. Hale, and County Attorney, disregard the most important area in the house, the kitchen, when it comes to their investigation. In the end, the women are the ones who find the clues that lead to the conclusion that Minnie Wright, John Wright s wife, murdered him. Both of Glaspell s female characters illustrate the ability to step into a male dominated profession by taking on the role of detective. According to Critical Theory Today: A User Friendly Guide written by Lois Tyson, a reader response critique focuses on an individual s response to a literary text. Reader response criticism maintains that what a text is cannot be separated from what it does (Tyson 170). There are several different approaches to reader response theory that I would be applying, such as transactional reader response theory and affective stylistics. Firstly, transactional reader response theory analyzes the transaction between text and reader in which the text stimulates the feelings, associations, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. american character American Character Then and Now A notion that still holds strong today, Fredrick Jackson Turner s idea of American character was one based on trials and experiences. Unlike Crevecour, Turner believed that American character was not simply a product of English character transported to America, but rather another idea altogether (Faragher 63). He expressed this opinion the best when he said, In the crucible of the frontier the immigrants were Americanized, liberated, and fused into a mixed race, English in neither nationality nor characteristics (Faragher 64). The combination of the Turner thesis and Peck s translation of it, provided a foundation that would help form American identity: individualism and collectivity. A perfect example of this today is the sport of baseball, America s pastime. By the time Turner presented his thesis in 1893 at the Colombian Exhibition in Chicago, the myth of the cowboy and the myth of the frontier had already made their way into novels for the enjoyment of east coasters who were curious of the west (Cullen 127). Characters like Buffalo Bill, Nathaniel (Natty) Bumpo, and Daniel Boone helped illustrated American character. The introduction of she males, women with feminine and masculine qualities, were also an important feature of these novels west (Cullen 127). Characters like Jane, from Calamity Jane by Edward L. Wheeler, were like predecessors of women rights; they were heroines who demanded and received, but remained kindhearted at the same time (Faber all). Although all of these characters had a very profound role in molding people s impression of the west, the novel which combined many individual roles of each western into one was probably The Virginian by Own Wister. This novel was so influential in helping to engrave American character in that it incorporated Turner s idea of the disappearing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1932 during the worst of the great depression and prior to World War II, President Roosevelt s administration implemented a series of initiatives or legislative reforms that all fell under the New Deal. The flood of New Deal legislation that followed produced major changes in government economy relationships and in government s role in American society generally. (Anderson, 2015, p. 72) Roosevelt s description of the New Deal was that it would help to provide relief, recovery, and reform; this came to be known as the 3 Rs. Many of the reforms were highly successful like the Federal Emergency Relief Act, Tennessee Valley Authority, Federal Housing Administration and the Social Security Act. Perhaps the problems began there. There were no requirements except for the employees thinking that the families had minimal skills and could figure it out for themselves. Once chosen the families had to decide very quickly if they would be making the move. Due to the short season for farming and building, some families had only days to decide. The following were the guidelines for choosing a family. As far as possible, families should be selected first on their farming ability and secondly, those who may have secondary skills and who may adjust themselves to a diversified farming activity and can assist with carpentry on their homes and then those who may know something about machinery and blacksmithing and who have leadership qualities. King George Sound A Harbour This essay will look at the area currently known as King George Sound a harbour in Albany, Western Australia, and how it came to be known as the friendly frontier by many historians after reports of harmonious behaviour between British explorers, early settlers and the local Aboriginal community. George Vancouver sailed and moored his ship in a harbour which he named King George the Thirds Sound after discovering how sound it was for ships while also honouring the king of his time King George the Third, though in recent times the name has been shortened to King George Sound. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to acknowledge that there are many similarities between the encounters of the British and the Aboriginals here as there are in regions further north, but it is the differences that resulted in the uncommon friendship that developed in King George Sound. A possible factor for is a the theory of self fulfilling prophecy developed by Rosenthal and Jacobson in 1968, so when Flinders reported the friendly and peaceful behaviour displayed by the native Aboriginals, later explorers read the journal in order to gain a level of knowledge and they were informed to expect welcoming behaviour. So when the explorers arrived they were friendly toward the local Aboriginals due to the expectations that were strongly influenced from the knowledge in the journals they read, so it followed that the Aboriginals responded in kind displaying a friendly nature. So for a number of years this unusually harmonious relationship was maintained, leading to King George Sound being given the label the friendly frontier by historian Neville Green. Philip King was employed to follow in Flinders wake in order to further explore King George Sound, it was his second visit in 1821 that proved crucial in developing a detail view of ...
