My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo...
My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and
more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting
what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my
reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about
the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other
times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on
grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a
concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework
assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and
although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it
was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to
work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades.
I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in
the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to
remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive

3. Recruiting Practices
Nowadays, Human Resource Management is an important field which we have to take into
consideration if we are a large company, because now we move to a more knowledge based and
interactive global economy.
The freer economic environment of the twenty first century, the reduction of restrictions on labor
movement in areas such as the European Union, and the advent of new technology have combined to
mean that many fledgling enterprises operate internationally almost as soon as they are established.
There is a known fact that different nationalities do have different values and that these affect the way
people organize, conduct and manage work.
HRM activities such as recruitment and selection, training and development, reward and performance
appraisal, may all be affected by cultural values and practices in the respective host countries. Even
though they have standardized HRM policies and practices through the world, we will analyze in this

Canadian Economic Problems
To meet the needs of Canadian people, three fundamental economic questions need to be answered:
What should we produce?
How should we produce it?
For whom should we produce it?
Although every country will answer the what, how and for whom questions differently, every country
will be confronted with the same fundamental problems: resource allocation and scarcity.
Resources are all the ingredients needed for production. The factors of production include land(natural
resources, labor (workers for the production process) entrepreneur (business owners), and capital
(technology and machinery/tools of production).
Scarcity refers to the fact that people s wants or desires are going to be higher than the resources

The above is what Canadian industry produces but what is it that we produce, the goods and services.
The largest category of goods is motor vehicles and parts which slightly bypassed energy products
such as oil, bitumen and natural gas. The third product Canada produces is metals minerals followed
by consumer goods.
2. Provide a timeline of major exports (what the nation used to heavily produce, what they are known
for producing now, future trends) (Julie)
1600 s
Canada s Economy is based mostly on natural resources such as fur trade, farming, fishing, forestry,
and mining. The history of Canada s economy goes back to the 16th century when the French and
British came to Canada and traded iron tools, weapon and other good with the First Nations people for
fur, beaver mostly. The fur where exported back to Europe and Canadian Codfish was dried and salted
and sent to Europe as well.
1800 s
1890 to 1914 Canada had a rapid growth of mining and manufacturing. In Aug of 1896, the was the
Klondike Gold Rush, a large mining of gold. The gold rush was hot news that spread quickly and
produced a pull factor, drawing the attention of many immigrants and explorers.
1900 s
By the 1900 s some industries such as carriage making and blacksmithing declined and were replaced
with new modern industries such as electrical equipment. Also, now factories were built, and the
demand for workers increased.

The History of Drug Prohibition Essays
Drug prohibition was not always accepted as it is today. Indeed, until the early twentieth century, there
were few drug laws at all in the United States. Before the Harrison Narcotics Act of 1914, one could
buy heroin at the corner drugstore; even Coca Cola contained small amounts of cocaine until 1903
(Vallance 4). Some of the most proscribed drugs today were sold like candy and (quite literally) soda
pop. What caused the sudden shift to prohibition? Prohibitionists often point out that legal drugs at the
turn of the century led to an enormous drug problem, yet they never give any evidence that any public
menace due to drugs actually existed, other than showing that the public demanded drug laws
(Trebach 45). This argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still, even after the Harrison Act of 1914 drugs were seen as a primarily medical problem. Over time,
the perception of drugs changed from objects of medical addiction to articles of immorality, until they
were seen primarily as a criminal problem in the 1930 s (Vallance 5). Much of this may have resulted
from alcohol Prohibition, which accustomed the American public to substance regulation. At the same
time, the typical drug user changed. Before 1914, the average user was typified by the heroin addict
Mrs. Dubose in Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird: white, middle class, middle aged, and female.
David Courtwright notes that although fictitious, Mrs. Dubose personifies the American addict of the
late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries #8230;her sex, age of addiction, race, nationality, region,
class, and occupation #8230;[are] typical (qtd. in Trebach 56). As increasingly large numbers of
males, minorities, and the poor began using drugs, people s attitudes towards drugs changed. Duster
notes that middle America s moral hostility comes faster and easier when directed toward a young,
lower class Negro male, than toward a middle aged, middle class white female (21). Indeed, even drug
law crusader James Inciardi concedes that many early drug laws gained support because of racism and
xenophobia (Trebach 47). Thus, a demographic shift

environment to induce the desired reaction or to make an opposing undesirable behavior less likely. In
the case, a special education teacher is trying to teach a child with a severe intellectual disability how
to make accurate letter discriminations. To achieve this, the teacher decided to use food as a reinforcer
to make the child respond accurately in training sessions. Therefore, the teacher prevented the child
from eating lunch until he made correct letter instructions. He argued that if the child fails to eat lunch,
food would be a successful reinforcer. However, the antecedent control strategy used by the teacher

The Hero s Journey In The Monomyth By Joseph Campbell
It may be hard to believe that every story follows a near identical pattern. Author Joseph Campbell
discovered a general structure for the plot of all myths and stories. He wrote about his theory in The
Hero With a Thousand Faces to educate others about this idea, which he called, The Monomyth .
Joseph Campbell, who has written many famed books in his lifetime, was a mythologist and spent a
large part of his time reading before creating this theory. The monomyth, also known as The Hero s
Journey, explains in deep detail the interaction the hero has during each phase of his journey. Joseph
Campbell was partially inspired by Carl Jung s theory of Archetypes ; Jung believed characters had

refusal is essentially a refusal to give up what one takes to be one s own interest (59). At this point in
the journey, The hero has not yet fully committed to the journey and may still be thinking of turning

To Helen Figurative Language
The controversial issue of such a beautiful thing causing utter destruction has been around for many
years. To some, like Edgar Allan Poe, Helen is a beauty beyond words, constantly praised. To others,
like Hilda Doolittle (H.D.), she is a curse bestowed upon Greece. As thousands of years have passed
since the Trojan War, through their uses of speech, diction, imagery, form, and tone, the two poets
display their contrasting views of Helen in their poems To Helen and Helen . Edgar Allan Poe writes
an ode To Helen . Starting from the title it is seen that he is talking directly to her. This use of an
apostrophe and speech creates a connection between him and Helen. Moreover, his use of first person
point of view makes the poem more personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
hates Helen. By not directly addressing anyone in her poem and simply titling it Helen , H.D. creates
an impersonal and cold tone. By writing in a third person point of view she further enforces this.
Moreover, as there is a disconnection between the poet and the subject of the poem, H.D. can hide
behind her words and further blame Helen for the destruction of Greece. By saying that all of Greece
hates (line 1) Helen and all of Greece reviles/ [her] wan face when she smiles (line 6 7) she implies
great hatred. Saying all of Greece and using words which have hard sounds such as hates and reviles
H.D. amplifies her hate towards Helen. By stating that disgust is brought upon Greece when Helen
smiles is ironic as smiles usually make other feel welcome and better about themselves and others
around them. Nothing Helen does, nor how pretty she was can make up for her destruction. Describing
her as having a white face (line 2) and white hands (line 5), unlike Poe describing her to have qualities
of a flower, H.D. paints Helen to be sickly and cold someone others do not want to be around. The
colour of her face reminds Greece of her past enchantments/ and past ills (line 10 11) as if she were a
witch who cast a spell upon Greece. This negative diction of Helen using sorcery to put Greece and its
people in misery further creates a despite filled tone. Moreover, while some might not be able to see
the evils hiding behind Helen s beauty of

of kidnapping the girl who helped her escape prison, Winifred. Winifred, however, claims that this
accusation is untrue and that she went with the Tuck family on her own will. Winnie was always such

even on top of this magical kitchen appliance using the burners. We may even use a microwave (I

Laboratory 7: Environmental Effects on Enzyme Activity
BI 185 03
BY
Charlie Kane
10/24/17
Abstract
During this experiment we tested the effects that specific environmental conditions have on the
enzyme, peroxidase. Through this experiment we developed an understanding of enzymes and their
functions. By exposing the enzymes to different environments, we observed a changed in their
activity. In order for us to measure these changes we used the technique of spectrophotometry,
meaning we used a spectrophotometer, which measures the amount of light a chemical can absorb. In
our findings we discovered that certain environmental factors such as pH, temperature, boiling do
have an affect on enzyme activity. In conclusion the five null hypothesis were proven to be incorrect.
Introduction
Enzymes are biological catalysts that carry thousands of chemical reactions that occur in living cells.
They could be found in every living thing. Enzymes increase the rate at which chemical reactions
occur. A catalyst speeds up a chemical reaction by lowering the activation energy required. They are
proteins made up of several amino acids. Each enzyme is different due to its structure, it all has
different amino acid sequence. An enzymes ability to function depends on it s environment. These
factors include temperature, denaturation, pH, the size , the shape, and the amount of enzymes present.
Enzymes performs best at ph7. That is the same pH as blood , the more enzymes stray away from pH7
the weaker it becomes , the active site gets damaged. This makes the enzyme not active, no longer
functional. When it comes to temperature enzymes at a certain temperature have maximum activity.
As temperature increases the enzyme activity also increases. When enzymes reach their maximum
activity level and the temperature is still increasing it will start to decline (denaturation). The rate of
reaction also depends on how much enzymes are present. We tested 5 hypothesis which were the
amount of enzyme does not alter the rate of a reaction. pH does not influence the rate of an enzyme
reaction. Temperature does not influence the rate of an enzyme activity. Boiling an enzyme before a
reaction does not influence enzyme activity. The

Daphnia magna, arthropods of the subphylum Crustacea, are widely used during laboratory
experiments because they are very sensitive to many environmental parameters including temperature
and chemical contaminants (Cornell, 2009). In this experiment, Daphnia magna were tested under
different experimental factors, including temperature changes and exposure to different chemical, in
order to observe the effect of environmental conditions on their heart rate.

regardless of increasing or decreasing the external temperature of the Daphnia. The alternative
hypothesis is that the heart rate will increase with more heat and will decrease with a decrease a
decrease in temperature, meaning that heart rate and temperature are directly related. In regards to the
chemicals acetylcholine and epinephrine, the null hypothesis is that both chemicals will have no effect
on the heart rate of the Daphnia. In contrast, the alternative hypothesis is that their heart rate will

The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman
Dramaturgical Perspective
In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a staged
production in which people actively present themselves to different audiences one encounters. To
bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of all the world s a stage (1959,
254). This, he terms as a dramaturgical approach (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an actor puts on a
show for others; drawing analogies between human behaviors and the theater. Goffman (1959) likens
the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals involved in the situation.
Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self, and to interact with others: the
front stage, the backstage, the outer region. Goffman (1959) utilizes specific dramaturgical terms such
as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign vehicles, and highlights the process of dramatic
realization. These terms will be discussed in the following sections.
Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the
environment and audience, with the objective of providing others with impressions that are consonant
with the desired goals of the actor. Specifically Goffman states as all the activity of an individual
which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers
and which has some influence on the observers (1959, 32). Goffman (1959) uses the

A Sexual Reproduction
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION
Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction by which offspring arise from a single parent, and
inherit the genes of that parent only; it is reproduction which does not involve meiosis, ploidy
reduction, or fertilization. The offspring will be exact genetic copies of the parent. A more stringent
definition is agamogenesis which is reproduction without the fusion of gametes. Asexual reproduction
is the primary form of reproduction for single celled organisms such as the archaea, bacteria, and
protists. Many plants and fungi reproduce asexually as well.
While all prokaryotes reproduce asexually (without the formation and fusion of gametes), mechanisms
for lateral gene transfer such as conjugation, transformation and ... Show more content on

Plants that reproduce vegetatively may form a clonal colony, where all the individuals are clones, and
the clones may cover a large area.
SPORE FORMATION
Many multicellular organisms form spores during their biological life cycle in a process called
sporogenesis. Exceptions are animals and some protists, who undergo gametic meiosisimmediately
followed by fertilization. Plants and many algae on the other hand undergo sporic meiosis where
meiosis leads to the formation of haploid spores rather than gametes.
FRAGMENTATION
Fragmentation is a form of asexual reproduction where a new organism grows from a fragment of the
parent. Each fragment develops into a mature, fully grown individual. Fragmentation is seen in many
organisms such as animals (some annelid worms, turbellarians and sea stars), fungi, and plants. Some
plants have specialized structures for reproduction via fragmentation, such asgemmae in liverworts.
AGAMOGENESIS
Agamogenesis is any form of reproduction that does not involve a male gamete. Examples are
parthenogenesis and apomixis. Parthenogenesis is a form of agamogenesis in which an unfertilized
egg develops into a new individual. Parthenogenesis occurs naturally in many plants, invertebrates
(e.g. water fleas, rotifers, aphids, stick insects, some ants, bees and parasitic wasps), and vertebrates
(e.g. some reptiles, amphibians, fish, very rarely birds).

In 1911 General Electric absorbed the National Electric Lamp Association
(NELA) into its lighting business. GE established its lighting division headquarters at Nela Park in
East Cleveland, Ohio. Nela Park is still the headquarters for GE s lighting business.
2.3 RCA
The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) was founded by GE in 1919 to further international radio.
GE used RCA as its retail arm for radio sales from
1919, when GE began production, until separation in 1930.[13] RCA would quickly grow into an
industrial giant of its own.
2.4 Power generation
GE s long history of working with turbines in the power generation field gave them the engineering
know how to move into the new field of aircraft turbosuperchargers. Led by Sanford Alexander Moss,
GE introduced the first superchargers during World War I, and continued to develop them during the
Interwar period. Superchargers became indispensable in the years immediately prior to World War II,
and GE was the world leader in exhaust driven supercharging when the war started. This experience,
in turn, made GE a natural selection to develop the Whittle W.1 jet engine that was demonstrated in
the
United States in 1941. Although their early work with Whittle s designs was later handed to Allison
Engine Company, GE Aviationemerged as one of the world s largest engine manufacturers, second

Nicolaus Copernicus Research Paper
Nicolaus Copernicus was an astronomer who believed the Sun was at the center of the universe
and that the Earth revolved around it. Copernicus was born on February 19th, 1473. He was the son of
Nicolaus Copernicus who was a merchant, and Barbara Watzenrode who was the daughter of a
merchant
family. After his father died in 1483, he was taken in by his uncle. Copernicus later enrolled in the
University of Cracow and assumed an administrative position just below that of bishop. Copernicus
then
went to the University of Bologna in 1496 to study canon law. Here he lived with an astronomy
professor
named Domenico Maria Novara and he also made his first astronomical observations here. In 1501 he
went to the University of Pauda where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He moved to Frombork in 1510 and stayed there the
rest of his life. Here he wrote the Commentariolus that shared his new cosmological idea about a
heliocentric universe. He was also working on On the Revolutions. He never saw On the Revolutions
published until he was on his deathbed and died on May 24th, 1543.
The current idea that people believed in at the time was the geocentric model. The geocentric
model showed the Earth being the center of the universe and the rest of the planets revolving around
it.
This idea was introduced by Ptolemy to explain how the planets moved. However, the geocentric
model
did not follow Aristotle s requirement for the uniform circular motion of planets. Copernicus then
thought
he could follow this requirement by using a heliocentric model of the universe where the distances of
the
planets from the sun had a direct relationship to their orbit size.
His information, however, did not completely invalidate the geocentric model. The contributions
of other astronomers hundreds of years later eventually provided enough information to prove the
Fortner 2
geocentric model wrong. Galileo, by using a telescope, observed that Venus and Mercury went

Badger Cheese Club
What qualities do you feel make you a good fit for this position? I like to get involved with different
organizations on campus, but I only like to take leadership roles in organizations that I am very
passionate about. I have enjoyed my time in this club and I want to make sure that it continues to run
at the high standards that the members have come to expect.
What would you do to make Badger Cheese Club even better than it is? I think it is at a great point
now but there might be some things going forward that make it even better. The first thing is retention
of members. The first meeting is always so crowded but then attendance maybe falls off after that.

I am always happy to talk about my involvement whenever people ask, and I even like to brag about it
when ever I am shopping for cheese or eating it. It makes me feel like I know about something not

cheese.
It is necessary for exec board members to work together to create this great club. Talk about an
experience where you worked in a team and pursued a common goal; what kind of team member
would you consider yourself? I am currently on the board of my fraternity serving as the secretary.
Every week we have a meeting of the board to discuss problems and try to find solutions going
forward. In this setting I learned the importance of listening more than speaking. I wanted to take
more of a leadership and commanding role in the meeting, but the board has seven people and each
one should get a chance to speak. Recently one of our goals was to improve our education program
and while I had some good suggestions, I chose to wait until everybody else had spoken before I
added my points. I like being the team member that helps facilitate communication instead of
dominating it and I find that helping others to listen more than talk is

God Was Wrong, Support Mountaintop Removal
God Was Wrong, Support Mountaintop Removal
Coal in the United States has long been the #1 producer of energy. Massive seams of coal are found in
the Appalachian Mountains, and our reliance on this fossil fuel has meant devastation for many
mountain residents and over 500 mountains. As our society advances, the need for more energy
advances. What were once beautiful rolling hills are now flattened plateaus reminiscent of a landscape
you would see in the desert. We as a nation have only short term interest in our environment, and
choose to ignore the many warning signs this planet continues to offer us. Left in our path of
destruction are the many residents of Appalachia and a landscape that begs us for forgiveness.
Mountaintop removal is process where the tops of mountains are removed with explosives in order to
extract coal from inside the mountain. The debris created by the explosions is discarded in a valley,
which is then called fill material. A loophole in the Clean Water Act reclassified the waste created by
mountaintop removal waste as valley fill, which in turn greatly increased extraction of coal from
mountains (225). These valleys usually contain streams which become buried underneath fill, causing
much of the natural habitat to vanish and poisoning what streams are left. The older and more
traditional method was to dig inside the mountain through a tunnel network which was more time
consuming and required much more personnel. Of course, when companies

stable. During that time, he has been aware of increased breathlessness, but no real cough or fevers.
He does not recall any upper respiratory tract infective symptoms. He had three days of prednisolone a
few weeks ago without any improvement and a couple of days ago completed ten days of
ciprofloxacin and feels slightly better. Thank you for arranging a CT chest scan that reveals extensive
emphysematous change with lower zone bronchiectasis but no active infective changes. I gather Rod
has also had a stress echocardiogram, the results of which were not available today. At rest, oxygen

The Electra Complex In Sylvia Plath s Daddy
Most girls look for a man like their father or brothers. This is usually because they have known them
to provide security and stability, but occasionally the child develops an Electra Complex. This is a girl
s unconscious, psychosexual competition with her mother for possession of her father, while also
knowing she needs her mother as well. This comes into play in Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy, when the
speaker paints a wicked impression of her father, yet is infatuated enough to marry a man who she has
made to model her father. The speaker spends her whole youth looking up to her father only to be
robbed of her Electra Complex by the truth of her father s conduct.
The speaker struggles within herself between the love for her father, and her hatred for him. As a
child, your parents are your hero, who should provide you with everything a child needs to be
successful, but because he had died, she was left on her own with this battle inside her. She hated her
father for being a Nazi and torturing the Jews. The speaker was stuck in her past, and her father had
created a generation rut, making another generation of evil. Children always search for acceptance and
approval from their parents, yet the speaker was only given the voice of her father within her head.
She blamed him for the evil within herself, and at the age of twenty, she tried to commit suicide to kill
the part of him in her. Unsuccessful in her attempt, she was pulled from the sack and glued back
together, never being completely full again. At this time, she had an epiphany: She needed to find a
husband. One who thoroughly resembled her father, down to the love of the rack and screw. At this
time, she was no longer a victim and converted to the predator. She modeled her husband after her
father so that she could then, essentially, murder her father finally. Therefore, she had turned into her
father.
On the other hand, her father died when she was ten and she still saw him as this massive man
standing at the blackboard with a cleft chin and a soft heart, but as she grew older, she became more
aware of her father s truth. He was a Nazi who spent his days working to round up Jews and working
under Hitler. For the rest of her life, she racked her brain

Racism In Neighbors
Here are the worst neighbors you d never want to have! 6 Noose hanging A suburban Detroit business
owner and his wife who hung Confederate flags and nooses on their property back in 2015 want you
to know that anyone who sees their actions as racist is quote stupid. Hmmmm.......confederate flag, not
racist, okay, I can buy that one. A single noose just by itself, not racist? Okay, you re really gonna have
to have a good story here. But confederate flag and a noose TOGETHER?! This story better be a once
in a lifetime story! Neighbors must loooove these two! Robert Tomanovich, owner of Robert s
Discount Tree Service in Livonia, Michigan, told reporters from the Daily News that he quote, wasn t
racist . He said, quote, I know black guys, I have black friends. We re all laughing at this stupidity. Do
you know how many white guys were hung back in the day? This isn t racist. But all of a sudden it s
out of control. I meannnn dude. I m not saying you re racist, but you sure as h*ll do act ... Show more

Reporters said that in a phone interview, he initially had said he put up the flags because he was from
the South, but then said he was from the Detroit area, then said again he came from the South and
hung up the phone when asked to specify where. Tomanovich also said he has at least one black
employee. After much backlash, Tomanovich finally took down the nooses and flags, but offered no
apologies to anyone offended. This I agree with, because he s allowed to do what he wants. But
clearly, he couldn t handle the backlash so I still say this dude is a complete idiot. The funniest part to
me is the fact that he still wants people to know that he wasn t racist. It d probably help a lot if he quit
hanging up confederate flags and nooses outside his house and business, you know, the same thing
that racists actually do? Sigh. People like this really do

Biography of William Wordsworth
Throughout history, there have numerous poets who have had grand influences on the future of
literature. Many poets have different writing styles and themes, but nevertheless, they often share
various similarities within their work. Wordsworth, Tennyson, and Keats can be seen as some of the
most comparable people in both their personal lives and literary works. There are three specific
poems, one from each poet that can be related to one another. There is: Wordsworth s Lines Composed
a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey , Keats s Ode on a Grecian Urn and Tennyson s In Memoriam,
A.H.H. Wordsworth, Keats, and Tennyson never rationalize, argue, or preach; they carefully craft
every word to maximize a reader s understanding of the experience by absorbing the reader into the
poem itself. Each poem has various philosophical truths that the reader has to ultimately discover on
his or her own and learn about immortality and the effects of it upon human perception. Even though
these poets differ in their messages, their styles and themes of writings can be linked together.
William Wordsworth was born in 1770 and was a Romantic poet that helped launch the era of
Romanticism in English literature. Wordsworth s mother died when he was a young child and this
experience had a significant amount of influence in his later literary works. Wordsworth studied at St.
John s College in Cambridge, but before he graduated, he went to tour Europe, which in turn shaped
and influenced his writings

The Effect Of Traffic On Major Cities By Running A Few...
Traffic Lab
ITEC 201 In this lab we will examine the impact of traffic on major cities by running a few test
simulations as well as examining data on the topic. Please answer the following questions in detail.
1. What are some major challenges you feel cities face when dealing with and handling large amounts
of traffic? What could be some potential solutions that could minimize some traffic congestion?
When dealing with handling large amounts of traffic, cities may experience a higher incidence of
accidents or speeding cars due to road rage. Cities also deal with risking driver safety because some
drivers may be tired from long hours at work and do not have enough energy to stay awake throughout
the hours of traffic on the road home every day. Traffic congestion not only affects car drivers, but it
may also delay the trip of those who get to places on the bus and in taxi cabs as well. On city roads,
traffic congestion may lead to the death of many pedestrians by car accident because drivers may
become impatient and outrageously try to run red lights or not stop at the crosswalks. Also, the
running engine in the high traffic may lead to high rates of air pollution. Some potential solution are to
build bridges or streets around the city that are made mainly for public transportation services such as
the city bus or taxi cab in order to reduce the number of frustrated drivers on one road. Also, cities
may also arrange for road construction to be done at times when the

Achieved Statuses In Sports
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! I roll over and shut off my alarm. My body aches from the lack of sleep and
yesterday s workout. I threw on my gym clothes and headed out the door. There was work to be done.
Almost everyone belongs to some particular group and claims an achieved status. An achieved status
is a status that is earned or chose. One of my achieved statuses is baseball. Being on the baseball team,
or any club in that matter, requires a big time commitment and a lot is expected. My role or what is
expected of me is weights, and keeping the required skills for baseball throughout the Fall and Winter
are required. When the season rolls around, my coach expects that I make the routine plays and hit the
ball hard the entire length of the season. My role performance or the things I actually do for this role
are both strength and baseball workouts to keep in shape during the off season. I do my best to hit the
ball and make the routine plays but baseball is a game of failure and things do not always work out. I
have also experienced role conflict in baseball. Role conflict is when a person is supposed to play two
incompatible roles. Our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An ascribed status is a status that is already given or one that is already had. One of my ascribed
statuses is being a brother. I had no control over spending my life with my sister Raigan. It was

her safe and away from boys. Also, I have to be there for her when she needs to talk and it is too
private and girly for my parents ears. I perform my role by having long talks with her when she needs
them and I do not get my parents involved. Also, being in high school, stuff spreads like a wildfire and
eventually everyone finds out. My sister is getting more involved with dating and boys and I have to

  • 3. My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo... My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades. I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For whom should we produce it? Although every country will answer the what, how and for whom questions differently, every country will be confronted with the same fundamental problems: resource allocation and scarcity. Resources are all the ingredients needed for production. The factors of production include land(natural resources, labor (workers for the production process) entrepreneur (business owners), and capital (technology and machinery/tools of production). Provide a timeline of major exports (what the nation used to heavily produce, what they are known for producing now, future trends) (Julie) 1600 s Canada s Economy is based mostly on natural resources such as fur trade, farming, fishing, forestry, and mining. The history of Canada s economy goes back to the 16th century when the French and British came to Canada and traded iron tools, weapon and other good with the First Nations people for fur, beaver mostly. The fur where exported back to Europe and Canadian Codfish was dried and salted and sent to Europe as well. 1800 s 1890 to 1914 Canada had a rapid growth of mining and manufacturing. • 8. The History of Drug Prohibition Essays Drug prohibition was not always accepted as it is today. Indeed, until the early twentieth century, there were few drug laws at all in the United States. Before the Harrison Narcotics Act of 1914, one could buy heroin at the corner drugstore; even Coca Cola contained small amounts of cocaine until 1903 (Vallance 4). Some of the most proscribed drugs today were sold like candy and (quite literally) soda pop. What caused the sudden shift to prohibition? Prohibitionists often point out that legal drugs at the turn of the century led to an enormous drug problem, yet they never give any evidence that any public menace due to drugs actually existed, other than showing that the public demanded drug laws (Trebach 45). This argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still, even after the Harrison Act of 1914 drugs were seen as a primarily medical problem. Over time, the perception of drugs changed from objects of medical addiction to articles of immorality, until they were seen primarily as a criminal problem in the 1930 s (Vallance 5). Much of this may have resulted from alcohol Prohibition, which accustomed the American public to substance regulation. At the same time, the typical drug user changed. Before 1914, the average user was typified by the heroin addict Mrs. Dubose in Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird: white, middle class, middle aged, and female. David Courtwright notes that although fictitious, Mrs. Dubose personifies the American addict of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries #8230;her sex, age of addiction, race, nationality, region, class, and occupation #8230;[are] typical (qtd. in Trebach 56). As increasingly large numbers of males, minorities, and the poor began using drugs, people s attitudes towards drugs changed. Duster notes that middle America s moral hostility comes faster and easier when directed toward a young, lower class Negro male, than toward a middle aged, middle class white female (21). Indeed, even drug law crusader James Inciardi concedes that many early drug laws gained support because of racism and xenophobia (Trebach 47). Thus, a demographic shift ... • 11. The Hero s Journey In The Monomyth By Joseph Campbell It may be hard to believe that every story follows a near identical pattern. Author Joseph Campbell discovered a general structure for the plot of all myths and stories. He wrote about his theory in The Hero With a Thousand Faces to educate others about this idea, which he called, The Monomyth . Joseph Campbell, who has written many famed books in his lifetime, was a mythologist and spent a large part of his time reading before creating this theory. The monomyth, also known as The Hero s Journey, explains in deep detail the interaction the hero has during each phase of his journey. At this point in the journey, The hero has not yet fully committed to the journey and may still be thinking of turning back (Vogler 11). • 12. To Helen Figurative Language The controversial issue of such a beautiful thing causing utter destruction has been around for many years. To some, like Edgar Allan Poe, Helen is a beauty beyond words, constantly praised. To others, like Hilda Doolittle (H.D.), she is a curse bestowed upon Greece. As thousands of years have passed since the Trojan War, through their uses of speech, diction, imagery, form, and tone, the two poets display their contrasting views of Helen in their poems To Helen and Helen . Edgar Allan Poe writes an ode To Helen . Starting from the title it is seen that he is talking directly to her. This use of an apostrophe and speech creates a connection between him and Helen. Moreover, his use of first person point of view makes the poem more personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... hates Helen. By not directly addressing anyone in her poem and simply titling it Helen , H.D. creates an impersonal and cold tone. By writing in a third person point of view she further enforces this. Moreover, as there is a disconnection between the poet and the subject of the poem, H.D. can hide behind her words and further blame Helen for the destruction of Greece. By saying that all of Greece hates (line 1) Helen and all of Greece reviles/ [her] wan face when she smiles (line 6 7) she implies great hatred. Saying all of Greece and using words which have hard sounds such as hates and reviles H.D. amplifies her hate towards Helen. By stating that disgust is brought upon Greece when Helen smiles is ironic as smiles usually make other feel welcome and better about themselves and others around them. Nothing Helen does, nor how pretty she was can make up for her destruction. Describing her as having a white face (line 2) and white hands (line 5), unlike Poe describing her to have qualities of a flower, H.D. paints Helen to be sickly and cold someone others do not want to be around. The colour of her face reminds Greece of her past enchantments/ and past ills (line 10 11) as if she were a witch who cast a spell upon Greece. This negative diction of Helen using sorcery to put Greece and its people in misery further creates a despite filled tone. The constable was absolutely astonished to come back the next morning and realize that a small 10 year old girl by the name of Winifred Foster had been posing as the prisoner. Mae Tuck had been held in custody for the past few days and was due to hang in the gallows. She was convicted of the murder of Henry Collins, a bright man with whom we spoke to earlier this week. Furthermore, Mae Tuck and her family were accused of kidnapping the girl who helped her escape prison, Winifred. Winifred, however, claims that this accusation is untrue and that she went with the Tuck family on her own will. We may even use a microwave (I have a best selling book on microwave cooking just thought I would mention it). • 16. Specific Environmental Effects Of Environmental Effects On... Laboratory 7: Environmental Effects on Enzyme Activity BI 185 03 BY Charlie Kane 10/24/17 Abstract During this experiment we tested the effects that specific environmental conditions have on the enzyme, peroxidase. Through this experiment we developed an understanding of enzymes and their functions. By exposing the enzymes to different environments, we observed a changed in their activity. In order for us to measure these changes we used the technique of spectrophotometry, meaning we used a spectrophotometer, which measures the amount of light a chemical can absorb. In our findings we discovered that certain environmental factors such as pH, temperature, boiling do have an affect on enzyme activity. In conclusion the five null hypothesis were proven to be incorrect. Introduction Enzymes are biological catalysts that carry thousands of chemical reactions that occur in living cells. They could be found in every living thing. Enzymes increase the rate at which chemical reactions occur. A catalyst speeds up a chemical reaction by lowering the activation energy required. They are proteins made up of several amino acids. Each enzyme is different due to its structure, it all has different amino acid sequence. An enzymes ability to function depends on it s environment. These factors include temperature, denaturation, pH, the size , the shape, and the amount of enzymes present. Enzymes performs best at ph7. That is the same pH as blood , the more enzymes stray away from pH7 the weaker it becomes , the active site gets damaged. This makes the enzyme not active, no longer functional. When it comes to temperature enzymes at a certain temperature have maximum activity. As temperature increases the enzyme activity also increases. When enzymes reach their maximum activity level and the temperature is still increasing it will start to decline (denaturation). The rate of reaction also depends on how much enzymes are present. We tested 5 hypothesis which were the amount of enzyme does not alter the rate of a reaction. pH does not influence the rate of an enzyme reaction. Temperature does not influence the rate of an enzyme activity. Boiling an enzyme before a reaction does not influence enzyme activity. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman Dramaturgical Perspective In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a staged production in which people actively present themselves to different audiences one encounters. To bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of all the world s a stage (1959, 254). This, he terms as a dramaturgical approach (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an actor puts on a show for others; drawing analogies between human behaviors and the theater. Goffman (1959) likens the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals involved in the situation. Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self, and to interact with others: the front stage, the backstage, the outer region. Goffman (1959) utilizes specific dramaturgical terms such as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign vehicles, and highlights the process of dramatic realization. These terms will be discussed in the following sections. Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the environment and audience, with the objective of providing others with impressions that are consonant with the desired goals of the actor. Specifically Goffman states as all the activity of an individual which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers (1959, 32). • 21. A Sexual Reproduction ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction by which offspring arise from a single parent, and inherit the genes of that parent only; it is reproduction which does not involve meiosis, ploidy reduction, or fertilization. The offspring will be exact genetic copies of the parent. A more stringent definition is agamogenesis which is reproduction without the fusion of gametes. Asexual reproduction is the primary form of reproduction for single celled organisms such as the archaea, bacteria, and protists. Many plants and fungi reproduce asexually as well. While all prokaryotes reproduce asexually (without the formation and fusion of gametes), mechanisms for lateral gene transfer such as conjugation, transformation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plants that reproduce vegetatively may form a clonal colony, where all the individuals are clones, and the clones may cover a large area. SPORE FORMATION Many multicellular organisms form spores during their biological life cycle in a process called sporogenesis. Exceptions are animals and some protists, who undergo gametic meiosisimmediately followed by fertilization. Plants and many algae on the other hand undergo sporic meiosis where meiosis leads to the formation of haploid spores rather than gametes. FRAGMENTATION Fragmentation is a form of asexual reproduction where a new organism grows from a fragment of the parent. Each fragment develops into a mature, fully grown individual. Fragmentation is seen in many organisms such as animals (some annelid worms, turbellarians and sea stars), fungi, and plants. Some plants have specialized structures for reproduction via fragmentation, such asgemmae in liverworts. AGAMOGENESIS Agamogenesis is any form of reproduction that does not involve a male gamete. Examples are parthenogenesis and apomixis. Parthenogenesis is a form of agamogenesis in which an unfertilized egg develops into a new individual. Parthenogenesis occurs naturally in many plants, invertebrates (e.g. water fleas, rotifers, aphids, stick insects, some ants, bees and parasitic wasps), and vertebrates (e.g. some reptiles, amphibians, fish, very rarely birds). • 30. God Was Wrong, Support Mountaintop Removal God Was Wrong, Support Mountaintop Removal Coal in the United States has long been the #1 producer of energy. Massive seams of coal are found in the Appalachian Mountains, and our reliance on this fossil fuel has meant devastation for many mountain residents and over 500 mountains. As our society advances, the need for more energy advances. What were once beautiful rolling hills are now flattened plateaus reminiscent of a landscape you would see in the desert. We as a nation have only short term interest in our environment, and choose to ignore the many warning signs this planet continues to offer us. Left in our path of destruction are the many residents of Appalachia and a landscape that begs us for forgiveness. Mountaintop removal is process where the tops of mountains are removed with explosives in order to extract coal from inside the mountain. The debris created by the explosions is discarded in a valley, which is then called fill material. A loophole in the Clean Water Act reclassified the waste created by mountaintop removal waste as valley fill, which in turn greatly increased extraction of coal from mountains (225). These valleys usually contain streams which become buried underneath fill, causing much of the natural habitat to vanish and poisoning what streams are left. The older and more traditional method was to dig inside the mountain through a tunnel network which was more time consuming and required much more personnel. Of course, when companies ... • 32. The Electra Complex In Sylvia Plath s Daddy Most girls look for a man like their father or brothers. This is usually because they have known them to provide security and stability, but occasionally the child develops an Electra Complex. This is a girl s unconscious, psychosexual competition with her mother for possession of her father, while also knowing she needs her mother as well. This comes into play in Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy, when the speaker paints a wicked impression of her father, yet is infatuated enough to marry a man who she has made to model her father. The speaker spends her whole youth looking up to her father only to be robbed of her Electra Complex by the truth of her father s conduct. The speaker struggles within herself between the love for her father, and her hatred for him. As a child, your parents are your hero, who should provide you with everything a child needs to be successful, but because he had died, she was left on her own with this battle inside her. She hated her father for being a Nazi and torturing the Jews. The speaker was stuck in her past, and her father had created a generation rut, making another generation of evil. Children always search for acceptance and approval from their parents, yet the speaker was only given the voice of her father within her head. She blamed him for the evil within herself, and at the age of twenty, she tried to commit suicide to kill the part of him in her. Unsuccessful in her attempt, she was pulled from the sack and glued back together, never being completely full again. At this time, she had an epiphany: She needed to find a husband. One who thoroughly resembled her father, down to the love of the rack and screw. At this time, she was no longer a victim and converted to the predator. She modeled her husband after her father so that she could then, essentially, murder her father finally. Therefore, she had turned into her father. On the other hand, her father died when she was ten and she still saw him as this massive man standing at the blackboard with a cleft chin and a soft heart, but as she grew older, she became more aware of her father s truth. He was a Nazi who spent his days working to round up Jews and working under Hitler. For the rest of her life, she racked her brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many poets have different writing styles and themes, but nevertheless, they often share various similarities within their work. Wordsworth, Tennyson, and Keats can be seen as some of the most comparable people in both their personal lives and literary works. There are three specific poems, one from each poet that can be related to one another. There is: Wordsworth s Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey , Keats s Ode on a Grecian Urn and Tennyson s In Memoriam, A.H.H. Wordsworth, Keats, and Tennyson never rationalize, argue, or preach; they carefully craft every word to maximize a reader s understanding of the experience by absorbing the reader into the poem itself. Each poem has various philosophical truths that the reader has to ultimately discover on his or her own and learn about immortality and the effects of it upon human perception. Even though these poets differ in their messages, their styles and themes of writings can be linked together. William Wordsworth was born in 1770 and was a Romantic poet that helped launch the era of Romanticism in English literature. Traffic Lab ITEC 201 In this lab we will examine the impact of traffic on major cities by running a few test simulations as well as examining data on the topic. Please answer the following questions in detail. 1. What are some major challenges you feel cities face when dealing with and handling large amounts of traffic? What could be some potential solutions that could minimize some traffic congestion? When dealing with handling large amounts of traffic, cities may experience a higher incidence of accidents or speeding cars due to road rage. Cities also deal with risking driver safety because some drivers may be tired from long hours at work and do not have enough energy to stay awake throughout the hours of traffic on the road home every day. Traffic congestion not only affects car drivers, but it may also delay the trip of those who get to places on the bus and in taxi cabs as well. On city roads, traffic congestion may lead to the death of many pedestrians by car accident because drivers may become impatient and outrageously try to run red lights or not stop at the crosswalks. Also, the running engine in the high traffic may lead to high rates of air pollution. Some potential solution are to build bridges or streets around the city that are made mainly for public transportation services such as the city bus or taxi cab in order to reduce the number of frustrated drivers on one road. Also, cities may also arrange for road construction to be done at times when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
