Mahatma Gandhi And Nelson Mandela
If Mahatma Gandhi never inspired Nelson Mandela to fulfill his vision for human rights, would
Nelson Mandela have inspired Barack Obama to continue that legacy? Mahatma Gandhi practiced
civil disobedience and lobbied for the rights of Indians in South Africa and India. Nelson Mandela
hungered and fought for a South Africa, where all races were equal and unified as nationalists.
Barack Obama sought to build a more tolerant United States through his historic presidency,
immigration policies, and equal rights for all people. Although these individuals faced severe
opposition, they persisted and enacted significant changes in human rights.
Gandhi took a stand for equal human rights and enacted change for Indians in South Africa and

For instance, In 1960 s Mandela got imprisoned till 1990...Gandhi got imprisoned multiple times
in South Africa and in India as well (Researchpedia Contrast of Mandela and Gandhi Paragraph
6). Gandhi and Mandela both were imprisoned for their acts of disobedience and did not back
down even while in prison. In summary, Gandhi directly experienced prejudice which set him on a
course for unifying his people and demanding change for India.
Like Gandhi before him, Nelson Mandela demanded a dramatic change in the treatment of his
people and was willing to suffer life long persecution and imprisonment to achieve it. Mandela
desired equal human rights be given to all South Africans, regardless of color, and enacted
change against the apartheid through political activism and becoming a symbol of defiance
during his twenty seven year imprisonment. Mandela s desire for equal rights in South Africa
fueled his quest for education and career in politics. For example, As he secured formal education,
Nelson Mandela became more outspoken for causes of the suppressed, eventually being expelled
from school for protesting...only to return later to complete his degree (Sarah Brooks Paragraph 1).
This shows that even while obtaining his degree, Mandela was actively trying to promote change in
South Africa. Mandela and other congressmen paid a high price for their

Major Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Auto Mechanic...
Review Auto Mechanic Training Programs
If you want to work on cars for a living you ll find it necessary to review auto mechanic training
programs before you embark on the journey. In this article we ll talk about three completely
different paths available for those interested in a career as an automotive technician. In addition, we
ll talk about some of the major advantages and disadvantages of these auto mechanic training
programs.
Keep in mind, you ll need more than a casual love for the automobile to enjoy a career turning
wrenches for a retail auto repair shop. In fact, you might be interested in discovering the
[[downsides of being an auto mechanic]] before signing up for a two year or longer training
program. We also provide a relevant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although we ve talked about one particular school there s other facilities that offer similar training.
A friend of mine started his career at an operation called [[Lincoln Technical Institute]]. Since these
are hands on schools, the one you choose often becomes a geographical decision.
Online General Automotive Training
You can learn to do just about anything online. Fixing cars is included in this web based
alternative method of training. As you might suspect, I feel this type of program offers less value
than the other types of auto mechanic training programs. With that said, this doesn t mean I feel
these type of schools offer no value. In fact, it s just the opposite.
These online learning facilities offer comprehensive automotive training without the benefit of
hands on experience. However, the price tag becomes a small fraction of the costs associated with
the other programs throughout this article. This allows students to dive in and start learning
without a major investment. This online opportunity provides students the ability to see if an auto

Beltracchi As A Victimless Crime
The world of art is plagued by forgeries. In the case of some artists, such as Vermeer, there are
often nearly as many fakes out there as there are genuine pieces. The infamous forger Han van
Meegeren was known to have made at least 11 forged Vermeer s that were accepted as genuine
until his arrest in the 1940 s (Wynne, 257). Wolfgang Beltracchi made millions selling pieces that
his wife claimed to have inherited from an uncle, telling brokers, art historians, and museums that
the pieces were rare works, previously unseen. In actuality, Beltracchi was using modern techniques
to make paintings in the style of 20th century masters (Birkenstock, Beltracchi). These are genuine

They hate to discuss the possibility of forgery, let alone admit that they may have purchased or
displayed a fake. They don t want to discredit themselves and they don t want to be seen as less
than intelligent if they ve been fooled. This attitude absolutely has to change if forgery is to
slow down and hopefully cease. The current market nearly encourages forgery because collectors
are so willing to spend outrageous sums on previously unknown pieces and they are not doing
enough research before handing over their money. Collectors do not want to acknowledge
forgeries and risk losing money they ve invested and who could blame them? However, is a
forger is caught they can be held responsible and forced to pay restitution to those who purchased
their forged pieces. Additionally, there has in recent years been a development of a market for
forgeries by well known forgers. Wolfgang Beltracchi put on an art show after he was released from
prison (McCamley) and Elmyr de Hory s fakes have sold for up to $20,000 and there are even
people making forgeries of his forgeries (Jackman,

Mcdonald s And Kentucky Fried Chicken
When any company decides to franchise its business, and open up across the United States or the
world, they first must consider many things. Will the company be successful in the area they are
trying to open? How will they be able to ensure consistency amongst the different locations, to make
sure customers experience the same thing no matter what location they visit? What threats and
opportunities are there to expanding the business? For companies such as McDonald s and
Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), the decision to expand has paid off not only in the United Statesbut
also in its expansion throughout the world. Although both companies have become successful and
remained, successful for many years it was not always an easy road to success.... Show more content

One industry in particular that had essentially avoided China in the years prior to the resurgence
of the country s economy was the Quick Service Industry. China had never truly experienced
western restaurants like KFC or McDonalds, and the late 1980 s was the perfect time for the two
companies to begin their journey into the country. Not only was China a good fit based upon
their food preference, being that they are large consumers of meat, but there was also a
heightened interest into what the United States could bring to the country. For so many years,
China had been closed off to the rest of the world, but overtime the country began to realize that
it would be beneficial to learn about other countries, and allow them entry into the country.
However, with all things good come some hurdles that make companies looking to expand have
to work harder to achieve their goal. For all of the good that came with selecting China as a
foreign market to enter, there was some major obstacles, one of which being the wealth of the
citizens. Although China has a very large population, there was a major breakdown of wealth
within the country, leaving a vast majority of the people in a predicament of not having money to
spend on expensive food. Nevertheless, many people would argue that one benefit to the Quick
Service Restaurants like KFC and McDonalds is the affordability of the food. The affordability of

Essay on Kane, Gatsby, And The American Dream
The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Citizen Kane a movie directed by Orson
Welles are both monumental stories in American society as they both represent the American
dream at it s most brilliant high. The Great Gatsby is all about time and the American dream; it
is essentially what consumes Gatsby. Both Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American
dream, and as we read into their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined
that it is hard to see them apart. Other key factors play into this such as the failed pursuit of love
and being in a sea of admirers and feeling like you are the only person there. Jay Gatsbyreinvents
himself at the ripe young age of seventeen; this is when he officially... Show more content on

Unlike Gatsby however, Kane would like to relive his childhood, something Gatsby destroyed.
Kane s last utterance, rosebud is a large standing testament to his want to return to childhood.
Throughout the movie we see him as a large, powerful figure that is newsworthy for scandals
and successes among other things. We realize though that the things that made him who he was,
were not the things that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and
although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. And the last word,
rosebud is certainly an argument to that because it is the last thing we understand of him, and it
is essentially him being at his most venerable and most alone time. When he leaves his family he
is embarking on a lonely trail, Thatcher is a money obsessed business mogul and therefore does
not develop Kane or even try to create a solid relationship with him, which sets Kane up for a
lifestyle of loneliness. This loneliness extends into his business deals as he takes the world by
storm. Scandal suppresses both Kane and Gatsby, Gatsby loses his life because of it and Kane
loses an election that he had in the

Therefore, more than 160 governments met in Tokyo in 1997 to draft the Tokyo Portal to advocate
reduction of GHG emission and set emission reduction targets.
As an important construction material, the Portland cement has been widely used in construction
industry around the world. The Portland cement clinker is made from calcinations of limestone and
siliceous materials where de carbonation occurs. The reaction:
C_a гЂ–COгЂ—_3вџ¶C_a O+гЂ–COгЂ—_2
The production of Portland cement is high energy consumption and produce large amount
emission of CO2. Previous research indicates that 0.98kg of CO2 will be created by production of
1kg of Portland cement, including 0.53g from decarbonisation, 0.33g from burning process plus
0.12g from generation of electricity power required. Therefore, for every ton of cement produced,
an approximately equal amount of carbon dioxide is relapsed in to atmosphere [2й їдё‰]. The
world cement industry contributes 7% of total CO2 emission [3]. This leads to the research of
seeking more environmental friendly cements. One of these alternative materials is alkali activated
slag (AAS) cement. Comparing with Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the AAS has is own
advantages. Firstly, it uses ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) as the binder material of
concrete, which is a by product from industry production. Secondly, AAS cement has low energy
cost and low GHGs emissions. Finally, AAS concrete has excellent engineering

Similarities Between Classical Greece And Rome
Ancient Classical Greece and Ancient Rome
When thinking of great empires that once existed it s natural that Ancient Rome and Greece come
to mind. They were both very accomplished with an abundance of theories and devices that
impacted the world. The empires were greatly influenced by each other. The Romans adopted many
ideas from The Greeks, but they also had different variations of each, such as their government, art,
and religion.
The ancient Greek and Roman civilizations both had a well organized political process that greatly
influenced the governments yet to come in their countries and other parts of the world such as the
United States and Europe.
An abundance of political junctions originated in ancient Rome and Greece such ... Show more

Some differences were decided on the location of the countries, in Greece they divided themselves
into smaller cities and functioned on many smaller levels rather than one grand conjunction, still
voting as a whole for leaders.
In Rome they weren t as separated due to lack of geographical disturbances, so rather than adopting
many small cities, they acted as a whole.
The art in Rome was considered inferior to the art in Greece being considered fakes or replicas
of their art. The Greeks were striving for perfection in their art while the Romans were striving
for real life people. The statues made in Greece were made with perfect people in mind often
modeled after gods and goddesses, while the statues in Rome have all the faults a real person
would have.
Although both Greece and Rome believed in polytheism and they shared the same gods, Rome
addressed them by different names. The Classical Greek gods such as Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades.
In Rome the names of those gods, in order, would be Neptune, Jupiter, and Pluto. The Greeks
worshipped the poet, hence their amazing mythology, the Roman worshipped the warrior hence all
the wars and dominion over the surrounding

Jumping Frog
Based on Mark Twain s comparisons of a comic versus humorous story, The Celebrated Jumping
Frog of Calaveras County, is Twain s most famous humorous story. How to Tell a Story by Mark
Twain is clearly shown in this jumping frog story and abides by the rules he has set forth
according to the countless expert storytellers he has heard from by word of mouth. Today we
will explore what makes the jumping frog story a humorous one rather an a witty one and
explain how Twain accomplished what he did. From the subject of telling a story gravely , how
one tells a nub , and how it contrasts to a comical story. The secret is being expressionless. Twain
mention that in order to master a humorous story, it must be told gravely. Well, what does that
exactly mean? In the first few paragraphs we can see how our author presents Simon Wheeler as
seemingly to have an impartialness, neutrality, yet true genuineness about him as he tells the story.
To the author, nothing seemed ridiculous to him no matter how crazy the story progressed. That is
exactly what gravely means. When a person builds up a story as a bland, ordinary thing although it
is evidently the contrary, it becomes the most comedic tale, and that is what Twain takes advantage
of in Wheeler s personality, whether he realizes it or not. It takes a seasoned... Show more content

you must disregard the very importance of it and treat it just like when your mom tells you, Get

presented was useless; it was windy and led nowhere because the story was not even about Rev.
Leonidas W. Smiley, but about Jim Smiley! Twain has you completely absorbed in the story that

Endocrine Extraordinary Sample
Sample A0
The urine sample provided was clear and yellow with no frothing indicating that there was little
or no protein in the urine. The sample contained no cells or crystals but did contain a small
number of hyaline casts. The lack of cells indicates the filtration membrane is at least partially
intact, the casts are not necessarily associated with pathology and are more likely due to exercise
or dehydration although can be due to renal failure (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone
2003). Dehydration and exercise decrease the urine output due to vasoconstriction of the renal
arteries, stimulating the release of Tamm Horsfall protein to help protect against calcium
crystallisation and UTIs (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone 2003). ... Show more content on

We were told the patient had oliguria which is low urine output, the patient passed 100ml in 24
hours which is well below the normal 750ml. This indicates some serious damage somewhere in the
genitourinary system but this does necessarily indicate a kidney prognosis and could be due to
other organ pathologies which cause low urine output such as prostatitis or a UTI (Klahr and
Miller 1998). Microscopic analysis of the urine revealed high numbers of red blood cells both burst
and intact and red blood cell casts but no crystals. This is evidence for damage to the kidneys as
bleeding further down the urinary tract e.g. the bladder would be less likely to result in burst
cells in the urine plus the formation of red blood cell casts is an indicator of glomerular damage
such as inflammation (Sigala, Biava and Hulter 1978). The dipstick confirmed the presence of
protein at 30mg/dL and also showed there were 250 ERY/uL with normal glucose levels. While
the protein level is not that high, the number of red blood cells is huge, this is a clear indicator
of glomerular damage as the filtration membrane is clearly not functional, as there are blood cells
in the urine, the fenestrated endothelium is likely damaged. The GFR of 20 ml/min/1.73m2 is
extremely low, indicating severely decreased function (Medsci 301 Course Guide 2015), providing
further evidence for damage to the glomerulus as this is where filtration occurs. When observing
the photomicrographs, the glomeruli are hard to see amongst large amounts of hyaline material,
there is clearly an exudate in capsular space and there are large numbers of inflammatory cells. All
these factors point to inflammation as the cause of the damage as this would cause the deposition
of the hyaline material, lead to the exudate as vascular permeability is increased and also lead to the
infiltration of immune cells into the reactive tissue.

Hamlet Grief In Hamlet

Evolution of Hamlet s Emotional Suffering
Since the tense conclusion of the 2016 presidential election, many people have felt a tremendous
amount grief surrounding the results. For much of America, this grief has completely changed
the way people live their lives. According to an article by the LA Times [source needed], 35% of
the workforce today feels more stressed at work due to politics. Following the election, countless
people began creating scapegoats to blame for their loss. In some extreme circumstances, the
results triggered depression and almost a political sickness for some people. Furthermore, they
directed their rage at the world and then began to focus that anger on people such as their
neighbors, co workers, and politicians. This atmosphere of taking sides has created an exceptional
rift in the fabric of American society. However, very few have voiced opinions about how their
current situation could have been a result of their prior actions, and many people are still pointing
fingers rather than directing their passion towards finding a constructive solution to their problems.
Similarly, in Shakespeare s play Hamlet, the protagonist experiences a process of condemnation
following his father s death. Between his first and second soliloquy, Hamlet s method of coping
with grief transitions from projecting his animosity outwards at those around him to then directing
it inwards with intense self loathing,

Arab and Muslims and Stereotypical labels in Movies
Movies are something that people of all color, religion and race watch. Directors of movies have
a big influence in the way they portray certain kind of people in films. It is obvious that these
people have a motive in bringing down a certain race or religion from the many accounts we see.
Arab and Muslims have been given stereotypical labels and have been looked upon as the monster
for many years even before the September 11th attacks. Filmafter film you see many incidents
were there is someone doing a terrorist act and people look at these and start to believe this is
how things actually are. The power the media has is unbelievable and over they years you can see
they have used there power to increase stereotypes of Arab Americans. Arabs are represented in
Hollywood as the villain, before and after 9/11 and this has contributed to the to the outlook of
Arabs and Muslims in the public sphere.
From the beginning of film making Arabs and Muslims were grouped as one by Hollywood.
This is one of first stereotypes they created. Only one fifth of Arabs in the world are Muslim,
and there are more then 20 million Christian Arabs in the world. It is obvious that Hollywood
has a huge impact on many people. In 2002 alone the total box office sales was more then 9 billion
dollars according to the U.S census. People are watching and people are becoming more and more
brainwashed. Plato once said, The people who are telling the story also rule society . Media in all

Civil Resistance Movement Essay
Another successful civil resistance movement in South East Asia was during the 1980 s in South
Korea, this movement was significantly influenced by the peoples power movement during the
1980 s in the Philippines which was also successful. South Korea was also very heavily influenced
by religion by a strong catholic ethos throughout the country. The government tried to cleanse the
country between 1980 and 1983 to try to silence all democratic activists, many of whom were
purged or arrested according to (Lakey, 2009). After 1983, the authoritarian president Chun Doo

In 1985, the New Korea Democratic Party became the main opposition in the National Assembly.
The leader of this party came back to Korea after two years in exile, facing possible arrest or death,
but had two congressional representatives accompanying him for protection. This clearly shows that
much like the civil resistance movement in the Philippines, America aided the country in becoming
a democracy. South Korea, like the Philippines, built good relations with the United States during
and after World War II, this shows that for a peaceful civil resistance to be successful, they must
have both powerful religious factors and good alliances with powerful countries. If the powerful
countries see a country which they have good alliances with being demeaned by a corrupt
government, they often feel the need to intervene and try to come to a peaceful conclusion. South
Korea is a predominately influenced by Christianity, therefore, like the Philippines, there seems to
be a link between being a religious country and opposing

History Of The Hollywood Studio System
The Hollywood studio system ran from 1927 to 1948. It applied the ideas and principles of a
manufacturing assembly line to the making of movies. During this time each studio created a
uniformed look to their productions, which allowed them to focus on quantity over
experimentation (Barsam, 469). By having every employee, especially actors, writers, and
directors under contract the studio was able to dictate not only the look but the stars and director.
This system was created in part as a way to control the cost of making movies. When an actor
signed with a studio they became like property. Their hair, teeth, and even names could be changed
to fit the studios idea or concept (Lewis, 103). This system created efficiency, workers were able

Interior trim was provided for each truck in the form of kits that contained a specific group of

According to the teachers, the rebels had attacked the mining areas in the afternoon. The sudden
outburst of gunfire had caused people to run for their lives in different directions. Fathers had
come running from their workplaces, only to stand in front of their empty houses with no
indication of where their families had gone. Mothers wept as they ran toward schools, rivers,
and water taps to look for their children. Children ran home to look for parents who were
wandering the streets in search of them. And as the gunfire intensified, people gave up looking
for their loved ones and ran out of town (Beah 9). This gives the readers a image of what

Comparing Heart Of Darkness And The Secret Sharer
Heart of Darkness Literary Analysis
In comparing Heart of Darkness with The Secret Sharer, one would most likely notice the many
similarities between the two main characters. The captain in The Secret Sharer and Charlie
Marlow both mention their dark sides . They fight against this alter ego and try to be more
philanthropic and gregarious. Marlow feels pity for Kurtz when he finds him dying, much like the
captain feels when he gives Leggatt the white hat. They also compare themselves to people they do
not tend to resemble.
Leggatt and Kurtz are also extremely analogous. Most would concur that Kurtz is not a good
person. He treats the natives terribly and becomes worse than the people he demeans. Leggatt is a
murderer and seems like the anti protagonist throughout the entire story. They get away with their
terrible sins in the end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not much disparate from the ending of Heart of Darkness in which Marlow lies to Kurtz s
fiancГ©. Considering that the two books were only published eleven years apart, it is not
unpredictable. Still eleven years can harbor a plethora of changes in a society. The endings show
that society let people assume information about others. Instead of letting Kurtz s fiancГ© know
what was actually happening in Africa, he preserved her idea of the amazing man that Kurtz was.
This is an example of racism in that time period. The captain lets a murderer escape his ship
because he felt sorry for him, because he did not think Leggatt deserved to be caught. Justice did
not catch up to either of these characters. This could show that in that time period people did not
really care what others

resulting in fewer suppliers and significant cost reductions. Supply chain management philosophy
changed from outsourced management, to in house management. This strategy allowed for
flexibility and the ability to react to short term changes in customer demand as a priority over cost

Since the Army s professionalization, there have been ebbs and flows in the degree to which the
Army has manifested the nature and motivations of a profession rather than its other
organizational character of government occupation highly professional in periods of expansion
and later phases of war and less so in periods of contraction after wars, e.g. post WWII into Korea
and post Vietnam. Even after the establishment of an all volunteer force in 1971 and the
rebuilding of the Army NCO Corps post Vietnam, these ebbs and flow have continued. The
Army in Desert Shield Desert Storm was highly professional; the Army after the next decade of
build down and the exodus of captains and other leaders and talent in the late 1990s was
arguably much less so. A recent report suggests that the operating forces of the Army, after nine
years of war in the Middle East, exhibit more clearly the traits and character of a profession,

hierarchical bureaucracy and that of a vocational, specifically military, profession. Section 1.1

The Role Of Homeland Security In The United States
In colonial times, the thought of personal privacy was a driving force in bringing people to the
New World. Living under oppressive monarchs, the promise of a self governing new land was

police force to prevent crime and punish criminals. As time and technology progressed however, the
laws remained the same. Eventually, the laws were modernized.

The Impact Of Immigration On The United States And Canada...
Chapter One: Introduction to Investigation
Immigration to North American nations has been a staple process for countries like the United
States and Canada. Without immigrants, these two nations would not have become as large and
successful as they are today. However, easy and encouraged immigration has not always been a
constant for these two countries. Throughout the centuries, there have been issues and disputes
over immigration for particular ethnicities and groups of people which continue even to this day.
One example being the current dispute on Mexican immigrants residing or entering the United
States and whether it requires heavier government intervention. A similar problem beginning
almost two centuries ago has already occurred in both the US and Canada, and was resolved in
extreme manners similar to some of those proposed American politicians. As following a popular
quote by George Santayana, Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it, by examining
past events similar to those seen today, those involved in the issue can make better judgements
based on what has and has not worked in the past.
The aforementioned problem was one of the largest past uproars concerning American and
Canadian immigration, which was with the sudden flow of Chinese immigrants to North America in
the 1800s to the 1920s. Most of whom hailed from Southern China, poor Chinese immigrants that
journeyed to the United States to secure their share in the American Dream, often

Nevada Constitution Vs. Nevada
The Nevada constitution is the document that governs the citizens of the state of Nevada. In
general, state constitutions are usually much longer than the United States constitution and Nevada
s constitution, which was sanctioned in 1864, is one of the state constitutions that fall into that
category. When comparing the two, Nevada s constitution is just short of being twice the length of
the United States constitution, but Nevada is still shorter than the constitution of twenty six other
states. The reason Nevada s constitution has such length is because of the in depth parts it contains,
which are protracted from the provisions of the United States constitution. The reason for Nevada s

bigger impact on American history then just exclaiming, The British are coming, though. Paul
Revere is important to American society because of his participation in politics, community affairs,
and wars and his craftsmanship. Paul Revere was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 1,
1735. Revere was born to Apollos Rivoire, who later changed his name to Paul, and Deborah
Hichman. Deborah had grew up in Boston whereas Apollos moved to the city when he was 13.
Revere was one of twelve children and the third born. Paul Revere dropped out of school
relatively young to become an apprentice to his father who was a silversmith. In 1754, Revere s
father died and being too young to take ownership of the business, he enlisted in the army. It was
during the French and Indian War that Revere enlisted into the army. After just a short time,
Revere was appointed second lieutenant of artillery. This is where he first began a position of
great success that he will use later in his life. He spent the summer at Fort William Henry in New

that the war was his calling, he dropped out and went home to take over family business. In August
of 1757, Revere married Sarah Orne and within just eight short months, they had their first child.

Quality In Healthcare

The most important measure of success in any kind of organization is quality. Quality is extremely
crucial in all organizations whether it is within healthcare or not because, it is a symbol that is

that they are always remarkably meeting the expectations of their customers, if not even doing

Corporate Governance and Separating the Board Chairperson...
Corporate Governance and Separating the Board Chairperson from the Chief Executive Officer
Numerous reports on corporate governance have emphasised the desirability of increasing the
number of outside directors on boards. An equally important and related issue is a growing
insistence that the role of chairman and chief executive should be separate, though on this issue
there is less unanimity in the U.S. than in other countries.
Choosing the right Chief Executive officer is the key task for the board of directors. Pressure on
chief executives to perform in ever decreasing time frames makes it essential that the CEO and the
Board work closely together. An effective chief Executive will drive company strategy, lead the top
team and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although in many cases that rationale holds true, there are considerable benefits to CEO duality.
Researchers have suggested that chairman/chief executive duality is a double edged sword .
While some stockholders are put off by the absence of board control and checks and balances,
others are reassured by the presence of unity of command and the absence of potentially
acrimonious conflict between strong minded individuals. Finkelsein and D Aveni found that a
major factor in divining the success of this duality was the level of CEO informal power.
Either perceptual or objective data can be used to measure informal CEO power. Although some
researchers have used perceptual measures of power, power is a sensitive subject for many
managers. In using perceptual measures, a researcher assumes that social actors are knowledgeable
about power within their organizations; informants are willing to divulge what they know about
power distributions; and such a questioning process
IIAdvantages of CEO Duality
When it comes to insiders versus outsiders on the board, a predominant role for insiders finds
support more often, probably because insiders are more familiar with the issues, the technology,
and the practice of the firm . Only they who are deeply involved and can make it work add value.
It is simply not viable for twice removed outsiders, no matter how expert, to provide anything other

Thomas Hardy Research Paper
Thomas Hardy was born June 2, 1840 in Higher Bockhampton, in the county of Dorset. He grew
with a passion of music and literature from his parents. He was first educated by a village school
provided by Mrs. Julia Martin, and his mother encouraged him to read many books. However, he
could not afford to attend a higher school, so he was apprenticed by John Hicks, a church architect.
He then moved to London, where he worked with another architect, Arthur Blomfield. However, he
fell ill and returned to Dorset.
Dorset is an important place that Hardy draws many experiences for his writing. In 1840, Dorset
was slow with change, compared to the rest of England. For example the railroad did not spread
to the county until Hardy was seven years old. This slow changed allowed folk traditions of this
small population last longer, giving Hardy more time to adapt to it. During his early years Hardy
was to witness the hand of change at work on landscape and rural community at the same time that
his own intellectual and emotional development was leading him in directions for which family
history offered no precedent (Concise Dictionary of British Literary Biography). ... Show more

him; therefore, Hardy began writing poetry. Hardy s poetry consist of a sermon on pessimistic
themes, but his lyrical power is praised. He began with the Wessex Poems and Other Verses

The General Assembly Of The United Nations
History of the committee
The General Assembly is one of six of the main organs of the United Nations. It was officially
established in 1945 by Chapter IV of the Charter of the United Nations, which guaranteed that all
member nations are guaranteed at least one representative in the General Assembly. The Charter
established that the purpose of the General Assembly was to find solutions to potential threats to
international peace and security and other issues within the scope of the Charter. It also gave the
General Assembly responsibility for appointing non permanent members to the Security Council
and overseeing the United Nations budget.1 In order to fulfill this mission, the General Assembly
today passes resolutions that recommend actions that the international community should take in
order to address a particular pressing problem. Although the resolutions passed by the General
Assembly are not legally binding, they still have clout because they represent international
consensus decisions and are often seen as the international moral norm.
Since its creation, the General Assembly has successfully passed various resolutions in order to
fulfill its goals as outlined by the United Nations Charter. Soon after its establishment, it adopted its
first resolution on 24 January 1946; much like the resolutions that this committee may seek to draft

The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay
Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye
Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience
through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate
product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist,
she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of
other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then
blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate
our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality,
Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely
experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a
postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of
Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person,
there is little to no record of her past or current life online. In an interview with the San Francisco

1.Sanitation Safety Planning
Sanitation safety planning (SSP) is a risk based management tool for sanitation systems that
prevents exposure to disease causing excreta, from containment through emptying, transport,
treatment, and to disposal or reuse phase (Organization, Sanitation safety planning, Manuel for Safe
Use and Disposal of wastewater, greywater, and excreta 2015).
SSP can be applied in both formal and informal settings for improving existing systems. SSP is also

Western Film Research Paper
Western Essay
Alannah Jones
When you think about film genre, you may ask yourself questions such as, how has it evolved
over time? Why has it evolved over time? How has it shaped popular culture? Film, regardless of
the genre, consists of elements, in which makes it a film. In a western genre, you may look for
elements such as costumes, effects/editing, and narrative. What about these elements makes them
important in a Western film?
In the film industry, costumes are an important element. Not only do the costumes support the
genre, but they also conduct character s representation. In the film The Magnificent 7 , Yul Brynner,
the man who creates the magnificent seven, is dressed in all black. Whereas, every other character

In the first film, which I mentioned above, special effects and editing had not been strongly
developed quite yet. You notice this during some points in the film. Including, whenever a
character was shot, there was no immediate effect. Typically the character would grasp their
chest, around the heart area, and fall forward onto the ground, revealing the blood and injury
from the bullet on their back. Whereas in the second film, after Butch and Sundance were shot,
there was immediate effect. They both sat down in hiding, felt their injury and when they lifted
their hands, they were covered in blood. In the third film, when a man was shot, he was taken
back to a small town, and a veterinarian attempted at taking the bullet out of his chest, you could
clearly see the injury and the damage it had caused this man. Editing and effects have evolved
drastically. These days in films, once someone hits the ground, whether it be from a gunshot, or
some other type of hit, you instantly see blood. Either pooling beside their heads or by their sides,
or their hands dripping with it. Editing and effects have become so realistic, that it has shaped
popular culture to the point of where, the effects can t be any less than what they are. If editing

why the numbers are fairly consistent. With your father s occupation for me the pilot seemed

The Bureaucratic Management Theory
Vail Valley Medical Center is an organization run mostly by the Bureaucratic Management Theory.
A bureaucracy is any form of organization that subscribes to an authority in the structure of a
hierarchy and has a rigid set of rules. The purpose of the Bureaucratic Management Theory can be
described as a system the enables an organization to expand and grow into a very complex company
with very specific rules and regulations resulting in great success. An advantage of the Bureaucratic
ManagementTheory is that it is the model by which all modern day theories are judged against.
Some of the disadvantages of this theory are: the organization may become too focused on rules
and regulations as opposed to success, rules and procedures can be stifling to flexibility and
innovation of employees, upper management could be so preoccupied with rules that the customer
ultimately suffers and rules and procedures can sap motivations from team members resulting in
weak job performance.
Weber identified an organization practicing the Bureaucratic Management Theory as one who has
tendencies such as: 1. A formal hierarchical structure
The organization is designed in a top tier down hierarchical structure with decisions and planning
being made at the top of the structure and passed down to the bottom, level by level.

In the tv series Jason Street begins the season, until he suffered a career ending hit that
paralyzed him for his life. This paved the way for no name Matt Saracen, a sophomore backup
who had never seen the field and had very limited athletic ability. Where as, the movie features
Mike Winchell a senior, receiving his first start ever as a panther. The hard working, small and
determined quarterback faces adversity and leads his panther team to victory even without star
running back and offensive juggernaut Booby Miles. Winchell takes it upon himself to lead his
team and show them what he can do. On the other hand, in the tv series, Matt Saracen is
struggling to find confidence in his new role on the team. I just want to be back up again. He
pleads. This is where coach Eric Taylor steps in and teaches the young quarterback how to work
with what he s got, and how to manage a football game. Saracen in his first start only threw the
ball four times, but one pass was a completion for the game winning touchdown. Mike Winchell
and Matt Saracen are your average, home grown, Texas boy, who grew up without a father or a
mother. Both Saracen and Winchell are without parents, but still have loving grandmas that
attend/watch every game. The two have very similar backgrounds but opposite demeanor,
Winchell always worked hard and never was handed anything. Saracen was handed the starting
quarterback job after Jason was paralyzed, and he didn t want the responsibility. This adds to his
uprising throughout the next couple of weeks. After he won the first game at quarterback, people
said, Jason Street who? He didn t know Jason before the injury and he didn t know what to do, so

John Conroy s Five Demands
John Conroy brings highlighted attention to the inhumane nature of the acceptable level of
violence with the on the blanket campaign. This was a peak of a five year protest by Irish
republican prisoners in Northern Ireland. The protest began as the blanket protest in 1976, when
the British government withdrew Special Category Status for convicted paramilitary prisoners, and
ultimately resulted in a hunger strike. On 27 October 1980, mainly IRA members began this
hunger strike to restore political status for paramilitary prisoners by securing what were known as
the Five Demands . The government appeared to grant the prisoners their five demands, however in
1981 it became clear that the prisoners demands had not been conceded. A further

Women s Suffrage Rhetorical Analysis
The first meeting to discuss women s rights took place in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention in
New York. It was there that Elizabeth Cady Stanton proposed equal suffrage for women. At that
meeting, they drafted the Declaration of Sentiments which illustrated the oppression American
women were facing. Although countless, courageous women would sustain this fight, it would be
1920, 72 years later, before Congress ratified the 19th amendment which gave women the right to
vote (Timeline of Women s Suffrage). The defining moment in this long battle occurred in 1917
when Carrie C. Catt gave her magnificent speech on women s suffrage to Congress. Catt s use
of ethos, pathos, and logos, helped persuade Congress to pass the 19th amendment. Carrie
Chapman Catt used ethos as a method to alter Congress s view of women s suffrage. Women s
suffrage was not a new issue when Catt addressed Congress on November 4, 1917. This fight had
continued for over 70 years, and the audience of male, politicians, had heard this before. By
speaking of democracyand the principals, the United States was founded by Carrie addressed their
sense of patriotism and their moral compass. American principals are used as examples for freedom
worldwide; she stated, although no others democratic countries unequivocally disallow women the
right to vote. It is a death grapple between the forces which deny and those which uphold the truths
of the Declaration of Independence she continued (Catt par. 7). This was

Thru Cole s The Expulsion From The Garden Of Eden
During the nineteenth century, artists wanted to create awareness of nature before it changed
completely. The landscape paintings represent more than the beauty of nature: it can trigger a
memory, tell a story, document a moment. Thru Cole s painting of 1828, where he illustrates
the story of Adam and Eve expulsion from the Paradise land, I remember the moment when I
returned to Venezuela after spending one year abroad. The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden
is based on the biblical metaphor of Adam and Eve; who had the opportunity to live in a paradise
land, with the exception that they wouldn t consume a fruit from a specific tree. This was
known as the forbidden fruit and if they were to eat it, their time in that world would be over
and they would be sent to a different world where hard work has required to obtain what you
desired. It might be a strange comparison: a biblical proverb and a trip back home, still, leaving a
country that had its problems, but has the right conditions to live in and returning to a country
where life had no value, people had no food and the life circumstances got worse day after day, can
be a parallel situation to the change of a paradise land to a world where people suffered the
consequences of their sins.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the right side of the painting, we see bright colors illuminating the beautiful, rich fauna and
flora of the landscape, with a clear blue sky as an idealization of the perfect world. On the left
side, we see a bright force pushing Adam and Eve into the world where not everything is bright
and shine, nature is somehow destroyed, fauna is wild, the sky is obscure and the mountains
cover the light of the sun; a world where the reality is, that if you want something you have to
work for it and errors or broken rules would have

The Effects Of Childhood Poverty On The Community And...
This paper will be introducing and discussing child poverty. The focus will be on the ongoing
problem of child poverty within developed countries and the negative consequence of child poverty
including its impacts on economic and social chances for those in poverty. I will be seeking to
determine the negative effects of childhood povertyon the individual, whether that be an
immediate effect, a lasting long term effect, or something that does not show up until later on in
life. Secondly I will be searching to ascertain the changes in child poverty within developed
countries as well as what policies are in practice to help reduce poverty. Finally, I will be looking
to discover the effects of childhood poverty on the community and society in general.
Child poverty negatively impacts a youth both immediately and in the future. Child poverty is
defined as an environment that is damaging to their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual
development (UNICEF, 2004). This definition by UNICEF covers much of the damage that can
be done to a youth both mental and physical due to the effects of poverty. For children who are
forced to live in poverty there are damaging side effects such as; more frequent learning
disabilities when compared to those who are not facing child poverty (Clarke, 2016). As well as
language delays and anti social behaviour (Clarke, 2016). Children who face child poverty are
more likely to face instances of underachievement at least once and often

Martin Luther King Influence
Martin Luther King Influence and Power
In the great country of America; America is who it is today because of the men and woman who
were great leaders that were able to influence people. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of those great
leaders that has changed America for the better because he had a dream. He was a black baptist
minister who was a spokesperson against segregation and led peaceful protests. In the 2014 movie
Selma, the film shows how Mr. King led the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches and
the events leading up to it. Mr. King was a remarkable leader because he could motivate people to
join him in the protest against segregation and influence America to change.
Martin Luther King used many different methods and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. King spoke at the church in Selma to inspire the people to not stand back and not do
anything anymore. In his speeches he used inspirational appeal, which is when a leader spur
emotions in the follower s sense of justice or loyalty to the organization. In Mr. Kings first speech
in Selma he brings up how the 4 girls were unjustly murdered in their own church and that only
2% of the black population in Selma had the right to vote. He said, those that have gone on before
us say no more, that means protest, that means march, that means disturb the peace, that means jail
and that is hard . By the end of his speech the congregation was on their feet applauding and
chanting give us the vote. Because Mr. King used inspirational appeal and brought up the injustice
that was happening the people were willing to protest and march. If Mr. King started off with that
they were going to march and protect for first the people wouldn t have reacted the same way.
Mr. King was very well liked and respected by the black community because he was protesting
against segregation. Because he was so well known everywhere Mr. King went and he showed
referent power because the people wanted to meet him and shake his hand. Referent power is
when followers want to be like or closely associated with the leader. The followers want to
develop a personal relationship with the leader. Everyone in the black community looked up to
Martin Luther King and was willing to do whatever he asked

Essay on The Airport on Thanksgiving Eve
Thanksgiving holiday is one of the few holidays that we do not have in Thailand. I never
understood the significance of this holiday apart from its two day school break until I traveled
on Thanksgiving eve this past holiday. A taxi driver who drove me to the airport hinted about its
importance by saying that, Tonight is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. I did not
completely comprehend his claim until I saw how crowded the airport was. It seemed to me that
everyone headed home to celebrate Thanksgiving with his or her family. However, what was
most amusing that night was a scene of tens or even hundreds of people waiting for their family
members at arrival gate. I was not clear why there were lots of people so I decided to do... Show

In addition, because of the different constraints between controlled environment in laboratories and
the real world, we cannot use experiments to answer the question. Therefore, ethnography is the
most suitable procedure to answer this question.
To conduct my ethnography, I observed people who waited for their family members at the
airport by sitting near the gate and watching their reactions. Without asking for their opinions or
reasons about their behaviors, I eliminated potential Hawthorne effects which is people changed
their actions once they realized that someone observed them. I paid attention to the number of
people waiting together to determine the relationship between the waiting and arriving people,
their actions while they waited and their reaction once they met their person. According to my
observations, people brought the whole family with them if the person they waited for was part
of a family and they were alone if the arrived person was one s boy/girlfriend. They had similar
emotions such as being tired and bored while they waited. No one had any positive facial
expressions but they refused to sit and wait in the back. Everyone wanted to be the first one to see
the person to whom they waited for. When the long awaited person arrived, their emotions changed
dramatically. Everyone had smiles on their faces and they started to hug

  • 2. Mahatma Gandhi And Nelson Mandela If Mahatma Gandhi never inspired Nelson Mandela to fulfill his vision for human rights, would Nelson Mandela have inspired Barack Obama to continue that legacy? Mahatma Gandhi practiced civil disobedience and lobbied for the rights of Indians in South Africa and India. Nelson Mandela hungered and fought for a South Africa, where all races were equal and unified as nationalists. Barack Obama sought to build a more tolerant United States through his historic presidency, immigration policies, and equal rights for all people. Although these individuals faced severe opposition, they persisted and enacted significant changes in human rights. Gandhi and Mandela both were imprisoned for their acts of disobedience and did not back down even while in prison. In summary, Gandhi directly experienced prejudice which set him on a course for unifying his people and demanding change for India. Like Gandhi before him, Nelson Mandela demanded a dramatic change in the treatment of his people and was willing to suffer life long persecution and imprisonment to achieve it. Mandela desired equal human rights be given to all South Africans, regardless of color, and enacted change against the apartheid through political activism and becoming a symbol of defiance during his twenty seven year imprisonment. Mandela s desire for equal rights in South Africa fueled his quest for education and career in politics. For example, As he secured formal education, Nelson Mandela became more outspoken for causes of the suppressed, eventually being expelled from school for protesting...only to return later to complete his degree (Sarah Brooks Paragraph 1). This shows that even while obtaining his degree, Mandela was actively trying to promote change in South Africa. Mandela and other congressmen paid a high price for their ... • 4. Beltracchi As A Victimless Crime The world of art is plagued by forgeries. In the case of some artists, such as Vermeer, there are often nearly as many fakes out there as there are genuine pieces. The infamous forger Han van Meegeren was known to have made at least 11 forged Vermeer s that were accepted as genuine until his arrest in the 1940 s (Wynne, 257). Wolfgang Beltracchi made millions selling pieces that his wife claimed to have inherited from an uncle, telling brokers, art historians, and museums that the pieces were rare works, previously unseen. In actuality, Beltracchi was using modern techniques to make paintings in the style of 20th century masters (Birkenstock, Beltracchi). They hate to discuss the possibility of forgery, let alone admit that they may have purchased or displayed a fake. They don t want to discredit themselves and they don t want to be seen as less than intelligent if they ve been fooled. This attitude absolutely has to change if forgery is to slow down and hopefully cease. The current market nearly encourages forgery because collectors are so willing to spend outrageous sums on previously unknown pieces and they are not doing enough research before handing over their money. Collectors do not want to acknowledge forgeries and risk losing money they ve invested and who could blame them? However, is a forger is caught they can be held responsible and forced to pay restitution to those who purchased their forged pieces. Additionally, there has in recent years been a development of a market for forgeries by well known forgers. Wolfgang Beltracchi put on an art show after he was released from prison (McCamley) and Elmyr de Hory s fakes have sold for up to $20,000 and there are even people making forgeries of his forgeries (Jackman, ... What threats and opportunities are there to expanding the business? One industry in particular that had essentially avoided China in the years prior to the resurgence of the country s economy was the Quick Service Industry. China had never truly experienced western restaurants like KFC or McDonalds, and the late 1980 s was the perfect time for the two companies to begin their journey into the country. Not only was China a good fit based upon their food preference, being that they are large consumers of meat, but there was also a heightened interest into what the United States could bring to the country. For so many years, China had been closed off to the rest of the world, but overtime the country began to realize that it would be beneficial to learn about other countries, and allow them entry into the country. However, with all things good come some hurdles that make companies looking to expand have to work harder to achieve their goal. For all of the good that came with selecting China as a foreign market to enter, there was some major obstacles, one of which being the wealth of the citizens. Although China has a very large population, there was a major breakdown of wealth within the country, leaving a vast majority of the people in a predicament of not having money to spend on expensive food. Nevertheless, many people would argue that one benefit to the Quick Service Restaurants like KFC and McDonalds is the affordability of the food. The affordability of ... Scott Fitzgerald and Citizen Kane a movie directed by Orson Welles are both monumental stories in American society as they both represent the American dream at it s most brilliant high. The Great Gatsby is all about time and the American dream; it is essentially what consumes Gatsby. Both Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American dream, and as we read into their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined that it is hard to see them apart. We realize though that the things that made him who he was, were not the things that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. And the last word, rosebud is certainly an argument to that because it is the last thing we understand of him, and it is essentially him being at his most venerable and most alone time. When he leaves his family he is embarking on a lonely trail, Thatcher is a money obsessed business mogul and therefore does not develop Kane or even try to create a solid relationship with him, which sets Kane up for a lifestyle of loneliness. • 10. Jumping Frog Based on Mark Twain s comparisons of a comic versus humorous story, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, is Twain s most famous humorous story. How to Tell a Story by Mark Twain is clearly shown in this jumping frog story and abides by the rules he has set forth according to the countless expert storytellers he has heard from by word of mouth. Today we will explore what makes the jumping frog story a humorous one rather an a witty one and explain how Twain accomplished what he did. From the subject of telling a story gravely , how one tells a nub , and how it contrasts to a comical story. The secret is being expressionless. Twain mention that in order to master a humorous story, it must be told gravely. Well, what does that exactly mean? In the first few paragraphs we can see how our author presents Simon Wheeler as seemingly to have an impartialness, neutrality, yet true genuineness about him as he tells the story. To the author, nothing seemed ridiculous to him no matter how crazy the story progressed. That is exactly what gravely means. When a person builds up a story as a bland, ordinary thing although it is evidently the contrary, it becomes the most comedic tale, and that is what Twain takes advantage of in Wheeler s personality, whether he realizes it or not. The sample contained no cells or crystals but did contain a small number of hyaline casts. The lack of cells indicates the filtration membrane is at least partially intact, the casts are not necessarily associated with pathology and are more likely due to exercise or dehydration although can be due to renal failure (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone 2003). Dehydration and exercise decrease the urine output due to vasoconstriction of the renal arteries, stimulating the release of Tamm Horsfall protein to help protect against calcium crystallisation and UTIs (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were told the patient had oliguria which is low urine output, the patient passed 100ml in 24 hours which is well below the normal 750ml. This indicates some serious damage somewhere in the genitourinary system but this does necessarily indicate a kidney prognosis and could be due to other organ pathologies which cause low urine output such as prostatitis or a UTI (Klahr and Miller 1998). Microscopic analysis of the urine revealed high numbers of red blood cells both burst and intact and red blood cell casts but no crystals. This is evidence for damage to the kidneys as bleeding further down the urinary tract e.g. the bladder would be less likely to result in burst cells in the urine plus the formation of red blood cell casts is an indicator of glomerular damage such as inflammation (Sigala, Biava and Hulter 1978). The dipstick confirmed the presence of protein at 30mg/dL and also showed there were 250 ERY/uL with normal glucose levels. While the protein level is not that high, the number of red blood cells is huge, this is a clear indicator of glomerular damage as the filtration membrane is clearly not functional, as there are blood cells in the urine, the fenestrated endothelium is likely damaged. The GFR of 20 ml/min/1.73m2 is extremely low, indicating severely decreased function (Medsci 301 Course Guide 2015), providing further evidence for damage to the glomerulus as this is where filtration occurs. When observing the photomicrographs, the glomeruli are hard to see amongst large amounts of hyaline material, there is clearly an exudate in capsular space and there are large numbers of inflammatory cells. All these factors point to inflammation as the cause of the damage as this would cause the deposition of the hyaline material, lead to the exudate as vascular permeability is increased and also lead to the infiltration of immune cells into the reactive tissue. ... Hamlet Grief In Hamlet Wyatt Johnson Hamlet 3HP November 17, 2017 16701 Evolution of Hamlet s Emotional Suffering Since the tense conclusion of the 2016 presidential election, many people have felt a tremendous amount grief surrounding the results. For much of America, this grief has completely changed the way people live their lives. According to an article by the LA Times [source needed], 35% of the workforce today feels more stressed at work due to politics. Following the election, countless people began creating scapegoats to blame for their loss. In some extreme circumstances, the results triggered depression and almost a political sickness for some people. Furthermore, they directed their rage at the world and then began to focus that anger on people such as their neighbors, co workers, and politicians. This atmosphere of taking sides has created an exceptional rift in the fabric of American society. However, very few have voiced opinions about how their current situation could have been a result of their prior actions, and many people are still pointing fingers rather than directing their passion towards finding a constructive solution to their problems. Similarly, in Shakespeare s play Hamlet, the protagonist experiences a process of condemnation following his father s death. Between his first and second soliloquy, Hamlet s method of coping with grief transitions from projecting his animosity outwards at those around him to then directing it inwards with intense self loathing, ... The power the media has is unbelievable and over they years you can see they have used there power to increase stereotypes of Arab Americans. Arabs are represented in Hollywood as the villain, before and after 9/11 and this has contributed to the to the outlook of Arabs and Muslims in the public sphere. From the beginning of film making Arabs and Muslims were grouped as one by Hollywood. This is one of first stereotypes they created. This clearly shows that much like the civil resistance movement in the Philippines, America aided the country in becoming a democracy. South Korea, like the Philippines, built good relations with the United States during and after World War II, this shows that for a peaceful civil resistance to be successful, they must have both powerful religious factors and good alliances with powerful countries. If the powerful countries see a country which they have good alliances with being demeaned by a corrupt government, they often feel the need to intervene and try to come to a peaceful conclusion. • 16. History Of The Hollywood Studio System The Hollywood studio system ran from 1927 to 1948. It applied the ideas and principles of a manufacturing assembly line to the making of movies. During this time each studio created a uniformed look to their productions, which allowed them to focus on quantity over experimentation (Barsam, 469). By having every employee, especially actors, writers, and directors under contract the studio was able to dictate not only the look but the stars and director. This system was created in part as a way to control the cost of making movies. When an actor signed with a studio they became like property. Their hair, teeth, and even names could be changed to fit the studios idea or concept (Lewis, 103). This system created efficiency, workers were able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ishmael the author of the book A Long Way Gone was fighting a war against the devilish rebels who change everything in his life. They are justified since his family and friends were killed by the rebels, he basically was forced into becoming a child soldier to fight the rebels from destroying and killing and he witnessed his own village being destroyed. Fathers had come running from their workplaces, only to stand in front of their empty houses with no indication of where their families had gone. Mothers wept as they ran toward schools, rivers, and water taps to look for their children. Children ran home to look for parents who were wandering the streets in search of them. Comparing Heart Of Darkness And The Secret Sharer Heart of Darkness Literary Analysis In comparing Heart of Darkness with The Secret Sharer, one would most likely notice the many similarities between the two main characters. The captain in The Secret Sharer and Charlie Marlow both mention their dark sides . They fight against this alter ego and try to be more philanthropic and gregarious. Marlow feels pity for Kurtz when he finds him dying, much like the captain feels when he gives Leggatt the white hat. They also compare themselves to people they do not tend to resemble. Leggatt and Kurtz are also extremely analogous. Most would concur that Kurtz is not a good person. He treats the natives terribly and becomes worse than the people he demeans. Leggatt is a murderer and seems like the anti protagonist throughout the entire story. They get away with their terrible sins in the end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of letting Kurtz s fiancГ© know what was actually happening in Africa, he preserved her idea of the amazing man that Kurtz was. This is an example of racism in that time period. Strategy is the long term direction of an organization (Johnson, Whittington and Scholes, 2011, p.3). Due to heavy financial losses and a weak capital structure affecting investment opportunities, the Lego Group had to look within to find a path forward (Johnson, Whittington and Scholes, 2011). The company had remained a family run firm for most of it`s history and by Kjeld reinforcing his responsibility as CEO, it sent a clear signal that the family was behind the company. By divesting in LEGOLAND parks, writing off other assets and simplifying the corporate structure, this allowed the LEGO Group to focus on it`s core business. Attention was directed towards resolving distribution problems and getting closer to retailers in order to understand their sales to end customers. Focus was placed on cutting costs and the entire procurement process was revised, resulting in fewer suppliers and significant cost reductions. Supply chain management philosophy changed from outsourced management, to in house management. This strategy allowed for flexibility and the ability to react to short term changes in customer demand as a priority over cost (Johnson, Whittington and Scholes, 2011). Research shows that play and the use of toys like LEGO can aid a child`s development immensely. Chapter One: Introduction to Investigation Immigration to North American nations has been a staple process for countries like the United States and Canada. Without immigrants, these two nations would not have become as large and successful as they are today. However, easy and encouraged immigration has not always been a constant for these two countries. Throughout the centuries, there have been issues and disputes over immigration for particular ethnicities and groups of people which continue even to this day. One example being the current dispute on Mexican immigrants residing or entering the United States and whether it requires heavier government intervention. A similar problem beginning almost two centuries ago has already occurred in both the US and Canada, and was resolved in extreme manners similar to some of those proposed American politicians. As following a popular quote by George Santayana, Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it, by examining past events similar to those seen today, those involved in the issue can make better judgements based on what has and has not worked in the past. The aforementioned problem was one of the largest past uproars concerning American and Canadian immigration, which was with the sudden flow of Chinese immigrants to North America in the 1800s to the 1920s. The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist, she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality, Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a postmodern society. In the film industry, costumes are an important element. Not only do the costumes support the genre, but they also conduct character s representation. In the film The Magnificent 7 , Yul Brynner, the man who creates the magnificent seven, is dressed in all black. Whereas, every other character is either in white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first film, which I mentioned above, special effects and editing had not been strongly developed quite yet. You notice this during some points in the film. Including, whenever a character was shot, there was no immediate effect. Typically the character would grasp their chest, around the heart area, and fall forward onto the ground, revealing the blood and injury from the bullet on their back. Whereas in the second film, after Butch and Sundance were shot, there was immediate effect. They both sat down in hiding, felt their injury and when they lifted their hands, they were covered in blood. In the third film, when a man was shot, he was taken back to a small town, and a veterinarian attempted at taking the bullet out of his chest, you could clearly see the injury and the damage it had caused this man. Editing and effects have evolved drastically. These days in films, once someone hits the ground, whether it be from a gunshot, or some other type of hit, you instantly see blood. Either pooling beside their heads or by their sides, or their hands dripping with it. Editing and effects have become so realistic, that it has shaped popular culture to the point of where, the effects can t be any less than what they are. With your father s occupation for me the pilot seemed plausible. Maybe it wouldn t seem very likely if we lived anywhere else but with the wright Patterson air force base so close by it was a strong possibility that he could have been a pilot. Not just the Wright Patt, but with Ohio being one of the birth places of aviation, the possibility got stronger. At least in my mind. • 40. The Bureaucratic Management Theory Vail Valley Medical Center is an organization run mostly by the Bureaucratic Management Theory. A bureaucracy is any form of organization that subscribes to an authority in the structure of a hierarchy and has a rigid set of rules. The purpose of the Bureaucratic Management Theory can be described as a system the enables an organization to expand and grow into a very complex company with very specific rules and regulations resulting in great success. An advantage of the Bureaucratic ManagementTheory is that it is the model by which all modern day theories are judged against. Some of the disadvantages of this theory are: the organization may become too focused on rules and regulations as opposed to success, rules and procedures can be stifling to flexibility and innovation of employees, upper management could be so preoccupied with rules that the customer ultimately suffers and rules and procedures can sap motivations from team members resulting in weak job performance. Weber identified an organization practicing the Bureaucratic Management Theory as one who has tendencies such as: 1. A formal hierarchical structure The organization is designed in a top tier down hierarchical structure with decisions and planning being made at the top of the structure and passed down to the bottom, level by level. 2. • 44. Women s Suffrage Rhetorical Analysis The first meeting to discuss women s rights took place in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention in New York. It was there that Elizabeth Cady Stanton proposed equal suffrage for women. At that meeting, they drafted the Declaration of Sentiments which illustrated the oppression American women were facing. Although countless, courageous women would sustain this fight, it would be 1920, 72 years later, before Congress ratified the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote (Timeline of Women s Suffrage). The defining moment in this long battle occurred in 1917 when Carrie C. Catt gave her magnificent speech on women s suffrage to Congress. Catt s use of ethos, pathos, and logos, helped persuade Congress to pass the 19th amendment. Carrie Chapman Catt used ethos as a method to alter Congress s view of women s suffrage. Women s suffrage was not a new issue when Catt addressed Congress on November 4, 1917. This fight had continued for over 70 years, and the audience of male, politicians, had heard this before. The landscape paintings represent more than the beauty of nature: it can trigger a memory, tell a story, document a moment. Thru Cole s painting of 1828, where he illustrates the story of Adam and Eve expulsion from the Paradise land, I remember the moment when I returned to Venezuela after spending one year abroad. The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden is based on the biblical metaphor of Adam and Eve; who had the opportunity to live in a paradise land, with the exception that they wouldn t consume a fruit from a specific tree. This was known as the forbidden fruit and if they were to eat it, their time in that world would be over and they would be sent to a different world where hard work has required to obtain what you desired. It might be a strange comparison: a biblical proverb and a trip back home, still, leaving a country that had its problems, but has the right conditions to live in and returning to a country where life had no value, people had no food and the life circumstances got worse day after day, can be a parallel situation to the change of a paradise land to a world where people suffered the consequences of their sins....
