Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade Essay
Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade
The U.S. has a huge trade imbalance with most trading nations. The imbalance is not in agriculture,
although many food products both raw and processed enter the U.S. at prices below those for
comparable U.S. grown foodstuffs. To a large degree the imbalanceis in manufactured goods. One
reason is that many nations have lower costs of production based upon a lower standard of living,
cheap labor, inexpensive raw materials, protective government policy, etc. Multinationals who have
moved their plants to foreign locations enjoy the best of both worlds inexpensive manufacturing
costs and unlimited access to the world s biggest consumer market, the USA. Our laissez faire trade
stance, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s logical to believe that the foreign trading entity will not leave all the tariff money and accrued
interest to go into the U.S. Treasury by default. It will purchase a like amount of goods and
services to wipe out the trade credit account.
Analyze what happened: No one got taken advantage of. America got the imported goods. The
foreign entity received a like amount of American goods or services. The trade books are balanced.
All monies earned interest every step of the way.
The U.S. didn t allow inexpensive foreign goods to displace American goods on price alone. It
made the foreign goods compete on a quality basis with American goods. American consumers
will make the choice of which is better at a comparable price. If the foreign goods are really
superior to the American goods, then the foreign manufacturer will have earned an increased
share of the world market and the U.S. manufacturer or ag producer will have to get more
competitive or go out of business. The reverse is also true so the free market and the law of
supply and demand still gets a chance to work, but it works on the basis of quality and value, not
upon inherent differences in world standards of living.
Is it logical for the U.S. to unilaterally adopt Equity of Trade? It is logical if Americans want to
continue the nation s constitutional directive to protect the American

James Baldwin’s Visions Of America and Richard...
James Baldwin s Visions Of America and Richard Rodriguez s Hunger of Memory
Many immigrant and minority narratives concentrate their efforts on the positive side of the
American dream. These particular stories narrate a person s struggle and rise through the ranks of
the Am6rican hierarchy focusing on the opportunities that seem to abound in this country. While
these stories are well and good. they do seem to soft peddle the flip side of this country s attitude
toward the immigrant and minority. America is a land of milk and honey and opportunity, but
unfortunately most new officiates or unwilling participants in the American culture face an
American nightmare that leaves its effects on the individuals, families and cultures ... Show more

The purpose of this paper will be to explore the role of education and politics, in these authors
lives, as tools used to create paths of advancement and as the bridge that spans the abyss that now
lies between themselves and their respective cultures.
James Baldwin grew up in the slums of Harlem within a family dynamic that was less than ideal)
Struggling to reconcile his adolescent feelings of inferiority, placed on him by his stepfather,
Baldwin also dealt with the bigotry and hatred that existed between white and black Americans.
Trudier Harris writes of Baldwin s adolescence by saying, He had to find a way of reconciling
bitter memories and hatred with the need to move forward into a healthy and hate free future (3).
Baldwin managed to find solace, in part, within the realm of creative writing, and his excellent
abilities helped him to gain entrance into the prestigious DeWitt Clinton High School in the
Bronx. David Leeming, in his biography of James Baldwin, explains that DeWitt Clinton had been
the previous learning center of such notable names as Burt Lancaster, Paddy Chayefsky and Neil
Simon (26). Baldwin s admission was certainly a personal coup and revealed an upward
momentum in his own scholastic life that would be the basis for his astonishing success. His
scholarly pursuits did not end with his graduation, but continued on with him to the streets of Paris,

The Effect Of String Function On An Accidental Of A...
One does not need to use words to convey a message. Dots and lines on a page can convey
emotion just as well, if not better. Music can fill in the context where words cannot. The simple
switch between major to minor, an accidental of a natural or a flat can easily show the motion of a
piece.
As a cellist for over six years, I wanted to understand the fundamental idea of why notes were
audible. I asked myself, why do I press down on certain parts of the strings on a cello to produce
certain notes? How are sound waves calculated? With these two questions in mind, I dove in with
the desire to apply a different perspective of music.
Diagram 1
One of the earliest discoveries of how string function comes from the Greek philosopher,
Pythagoras. The wavelength and pinches between strings are what differentiate the varying notes.
As shown in Diagram 1, the wavelengths have specific spacing in between, which are directly
related to mathematics. Nodes, or pinches, are strategically and mathematically placed to resonate
precise pitches, and particular ratios are able to be derived from these intervals. For example, an
octave describes two notes that are eight notes apart. In order to create the perfect first octave, the
string is pinched into perfect halves, making the mathematical ratio , as 2 parts are created from the
whole with one pinch. By pinching the string in half, the frequency becomes twice as fast ,
producing a higher tone of the same note. One octave higher than an A

Miss Dior Advertising In Advertising
For many people in the world to see an advertisement and move past it because they find them
rather annoying has become the normalcy of today s society. However, if people actually paid
attention to those advertisements the readers would find that they think some of the ads should not
have been allowed. An ad for Miss Dior perfumewas presented in a late issue of Vogue with a
model who looks to be about twenty four years old. The model has shoulder length blonde hair,
a clear skin tone, and a facial expression that could be considered provocative. The model is
naked and only covered by a dress that she holds up which still only covers a portion of her top,
middle section, and private area. Despite this dress, her complete right leg, thigh, arm, neck, and
shoulders are revealed. In the foreground is a Miss Dior perfume bottle with the words Miss
Dior and you, what would you do for love? . In Jean Kilbourne s Killing Us Softly 4, she states
that advertisements often send certain messages about women. Kilbourne claims that unrealistic
ideas of women are often proposed within ads, such as symbolizing women as objects and not
people, or even the idea that if you are not beautiful, then you are nothing. In the Dior
advertisement, a few of its aspects uphold statements made by Jean Kilbourne such as sexualizing
models to sell a product, emphasizing the idea of looking young and attractive, and placing models
in vulnerable positions.

I. Introduction a. Statement of the problem One of the most critical and gigantic problem which
most of the developing countries have been facing is that of poverty and special backwardness.
These countries tend to be very anxious to overcome these problems. During the last two decades
these developing countries have been initiating a number of development programmes and projects
under their development plans aiming at increasing production, adopting technologies for
modernization and social change, optimizing use of scarce resources, and above all raising the
standard of living of the millions of people condemned to poverty, inequality and unemployment.
Thus the public sector growth is one of the natural consequences of planned economy. It is the
public enterprises which constitute the most important Institutional framework for achieving these
objectives. The problem of poverty, inequality and stagnation in the developing countries to be as
daunting as ever in spite of massive programme of modernisation and social change were
undertaken by these countries. This has happened due to unsuccessful implementation of
development projects. Existence of a plan does not by any means ensure its effective
implementation. Effective management is vital for the development of any economy because
development itself is the effect of a series of

The Thought-experiments in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse...
The Thought experiments in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five or the Children s Crusade: A
Duty Dance With Death
In 1945 Kurt Vonnegut witnessed a horrific series of bombings that led to the destruction of the
German city of Dresden, where he was taken as a prisoner of war. The controversial fire storm raid,
carried out by bombers of the Royal Air Force and US Air Force, took casualties of up to a quarter
million people (Klinkowitz x xi). As a prisoner of war, Vonnegutwas forced to participate as a
corpse miner in the city s cleanup process. Upon his return from the Second World War, Vonnegut
decided to write a book describing his traumatic war experiences. After twenty years of struggling
with research, failing to recall personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although drastic presentations such as space and time travel potentially hinder the plausibility of
the storyline and detach the reader from the text, it is this exact element in Slaughterhouse Five that
returns the reader back into the story, bringing closer the relationship between the reader and
Vonnegut himself. In this sense, this experimental form of narrative creates another Chrono
Synclastic Infundibulum: a place in the novel where both the reader and the author coexist. With
this new form of storytelling Vonnegut commits himself to a novel that could possibly fail.
However he takes this risk in order to produce a novel that reflects his personal experiences more
closely than if he had abided with conventional styles. By inserting the readers and himself into the
novel, Vonnegut thus subjects the readers to his personal experiences more directly; the act of
reading Slaughterhouse Five becomes a simulation of Vonnegut s past in Dresden.
While Slaughterhouse Five was a novel intended to reflect Vonnegut s personal experiences in
Dresden, the delivery of the storyline suggests that the novel is anything but an autobiography.
Instead, with space and time travel placed into the novel without any scientific explanation
Slaughterhouse Five reads like a

The Use of Symbolism in Golding s Lord of the Flies Essay
The Use of Symbolism in Golding s Lord of the Flies
His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a pig
after it has been killed (217). This is what can happen to someone when all signs of civilization,
order and power disappear and have no more meaning to members of a group or society. In the
writing of William Golding s Lord of the Flies (1954), the symbol of power and civilization is the
conch. Once that is lost, all bets are off. When the novel begins, two boys are talking about what
has happened and why they are on this island. While walking on the beach, the main character
Ralph then proceeds to find a shell which the two boys call the conch. Blowing on this shell Ralph

In the very beginning the conch is used to bring all of the boys in the story together. Ralph blows
it and they come. This is the first sign of its power. The boys have been lost and now there is this
thing, much like a school bell, calling them to be brought together. It has brought order to this
strange place in which they are stranded.
During these boys escapade, when one wants to speak in front of the assembly, one must have the
conch in his hand. We ll have to have hands up like at school...Then I ll give him the conch (35).
They are setting up rules just as they had learned in their civilization. They are also making the
conch the only way one can talk at meetings.
All throughout this novel the boys are called to meetings to discuss the rules, the fire, and many
other assorted things. One of these things is a beast that comes in the night but does not leave
foot prints or any trail at any time. All the boys are very afraid of this beast and what it may do
to them if it gets hold of them. As it turns out the beast is in the boys: You knew, didn t you? I m
part of you? (172). This is the lord of the flies, also known as the beast, talking to Simon the first
boy murdered. The beast is their unwillingness to maintain a civilization; it is their transformation
into savages. All the time at all these meetings the boys respect the conch and whoever held the
conch was respected, even if he was not liked. Once this symbol of

Positive Impacts Of Peter The Great And Henry IV Of Russia
Some monarchs left their countries in better condition than when they began their rule, while others
left lasting damage. All of these monarchs used absolutism, but how they impacted their country
varied. Certain rulers did things to improve their countries they ruled and made a positive impact
on the people living there. For example, Henry IV made positive changes to France when he ruled,
and Peter the Great positively impacted Russia. However, some rulers made bad choices and made
their country worse. One example of this is Ivan IV of Russia, who is also known as Ivan the
Terrible . Although they believed in different things and ruled in different ways, they all made
important changes to the country they ruled. One monarch who made a positive impact on their
country was Henry IV of France. One example of how he positively changed France was issuing the
Edict of Nantes. The Edict of Nantes was a very important document at the time. It gave the
Huguenots certain rights that they previously did not have. The Huguenots were French Calvinist
Protestants, and many of the wealthy families were Huguenots. This originated from the Protestant
Reformation and spreading to France. The Huguenots were allowed freedom of religion (limited),
the right to hold office, and several other things. This change in France ended the idea of un roi,
une loi, une foi , meaning one king, one law, one religion . Another way he made the country better
was that he improved France s financial

Invasion Of Nazi Germany Essay
During most of World War II, Nazi Germany was at the height of power. By this time they had
conquered most of Eastern Europe. However on June 22nd 1941, Hitler began the largest military
movement in history, the invasion of the Soviet Union. Even though Hitler had signed a Soviet
Union Non Aggression pact he began the invasion. Hitler had always showed his hatred of the
Jewish people in his book Mein Kampf. Although the invasion of the Soviet Unionwas the largest
military movement in history, it led directly to the downfall of Germany. This can be shown when
looking at; the Nazi Soviet Non Aggression pact, Operation Barbarossa, the Soviet winter and
finally the consequences of the invasion of Russia.
On August 23rd 1939, Nazi representatives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The German forces were no prepared for the brutal soviet winter as in November 1941, General
Eduard Wagner, the Quartermaster general of the German army reported that;
We are at the end of our resources in both personnel and material, we are about to be confronted
with the dangers of deep winter.
For the Germans, November was a critical month in their campaign, this was when the hard winter
closed in, as the Germans expected a rapid collapse of the soviet union they had failed to prepare
their troops for the harsh winter, eventually the German troops outran their supply lines, opening a
thinly guarded flank opening the opportunity for a soviet counter attack. This caused the Germans
plans to fall. ( US Holocaust Memorial Museum)
After months of bloody fighting, the German army was exhausted, this and the soviet winter
pared together to finally open the German to a soviet counter attack. Their plans for the union to
fall had failed and the Germans plan for their military personnel to live off the land had collapsed.
As they were advancing quickly they eventually outran their supply lines. Even though they had
reach the outskirts of Moscow all that was needed was one more push from the soviets to put the
Germans back on the back foot. All of these factors led directly to the downfall of Germany and
most of all, the Nazi

Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Intervention
Mr. Harry Bright has undergone a procedure called percutaneous transluminal coronary
intervention (PTCI) via femoral approach for the treatment of his progressive unstable angina.
Femoral artery is the most common access site used for PCI because of its size and its direct
passageway to the heart (Young, 2014 p.431; Cosman, Arthur, Bryant Lukosius, Strachan, 2015
p.180). In this procedure, a cardiac catheter followed by a stent is inserted to the arteryto dilate the
occluded bloodvessel and improve blood flow (Young, 2014 p.430). The occlusive atherosclerotic
plaque are usually associated with Mr. Bright s diabetes, hypetension and smoking history. Contrary

No further data was mentioned apart from minimal oozing. This led to the understanding that
because angioplasty is an invasive procedure it is vital to perform a thorough assessment on the
wound site to check for signs of bleeding and infection. As cited by Benbow (2016 para.1) in her
article, an accurate wound assessment would yield to the delivery of effective nursing management
and prevention of impending health issues. Moreover, she also mentioned in her paper that
comorbidities such as diabetes, smoking, and ageing would slow down the healing process (para.4).
These comorbidities are well presented in Mr. Bright s history. This study is further augmented by
an evaluation research headed by Greatrex White and Moxley (2013 p.295 296) wherein they
enumerated a criteria necessary for wound assessment. In their research, the wound assessmet tool
comprises of the following: details and characteristics, wound measurement using, tissue type,
exudate, pain, signs of infection, and surrounding skin. Furthermore, since hematoma formation, a
benchmark of wound assessment tends to occur after patient is discharged, educating him and his
significant other how to measure his hematoma is significant. Cosman et. al. (2015 p.182 183)
proposed different methods of measuring hematoma. A general method described includes the
precise measurement of length and width of the wound

The Importance Of Alexander Hamilton And George Washington
Alexander Hamilton and George Washington had a strong relationship from 1776 to 1801. The
two first met in 1777 when Hamilton, then a twenty two year old artillery officer, joined
Washington s staff as his secretary. After the war, they built a strong relationship when Hamilton
was Secretary of the Treasury for 8 years in the WashingtonAdministration. Some have argued
Washington was more important in bringing stability to the U.S. due to his leadership both during
the War and in his time as President of the United States. However, Hamilton s role in the
Constitutional Convention was essential to ratification of the Constitution and establishing a strong

Hamilton believed the federal government had to play a much stronger role in the establishment of
a national economic system. With the creation of institutions including a national bank and a
national mint, Hamilton sought to establish a system to allow a free flow of commerce within the
United States and with foreign countries. As illustrated throughout Hamilton s Financial Plan, The
American economy had traditionally rested upon large scale agricultural exports to pay for the
import of British manufactured goods. Hamilton rightly thought that this dependence on expensive
foreign goods kept the American economy at a limited level, especially when compared to the rapid
growth of early industrialization in Great Britain. this shows hamilton was effective in forming
great stability in the united states economically.
Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay published the Federalist Papers a series of 85 essays on
October 27, 1787 to urge the citizens of United States to ratify the Constitution. Hamilton gave a
speech on June 18, 1777 during the time period of the constitutional convention Hamilton gave a

Hamilton wanted nothing more than a strong centralized government and was willing to speak

Causes And Effects Of Bullying

Causes and Effects of Bullying Bullying is a big issue that spreads through the world. It can
happen to anyone of all ages, and in numerous ways. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior
among people that involves a real or perceived power imbalance that either repeats or has the
potential to repeat, overtime (Bullying Definition). There are so many factors that tie into
bullying such as, why the bully is actually bullying, why the bully chose that victim, or even the
effects that occur while the bullying is taking place. Low self esteem is a common reason why
someone would want to bully a person. Low self esteem is the lack of pride a person feels in
themselves. Often times a bully feels like they are less than others and the only way for them to
feel better about themselves is to try to bring others down. A lot of bullies aren t trying to hurt
someone physically, they use words and certain remarks to torture a person, making that person
feel just as less as them just to uplift their own self esteem. Although low self esteem is a cause
narcissism is also a factor to bullying. Not only can a bully feel less of themselves but they can
also feel that they are higher or better than others. Cockiness is a trait seen in many bullies. This
may show in people such as jocks at a high school, or a fellow co worker that may have a higher
position or make a higher salary.

Cause And Effects Of The Flopped Crusades
The Flopped Crusade The Crusaders were created by Pope Innocent III in 1889. The Crusaders
fought against Christian blood, just to have more money. The Crusaders were not even in it for
religious purposes. The Crusaders failed to support enough troops, and made a decision to either
stick with the Christians, their own religion, or to ditch their religion and all of its beliefs. In the
end, Alexius III, the person who was going to give the Crusaders the money, did not have any and
the Crusaders ended up not getting any money, but sacking Constantinople. The fourth Crusadewas
one of the most unsuccessful events in history. The Crusaders made lots of wrong choices.
According to catholic.com, They did not have the money to pay the Venetians and Dandolo s
offer proved problematic, as Zara was controlled by King Emeric of Hungary, who had
previously taken the Cross; therefore, his lands were protected by the Church, and attacking a
Crusader s land resulted in excommunication (Weidenkopf). The Crusaders chose to be
excommunicated over being Christian with a debt they had to pay off and were acting like
peasants. They would take any deal they saw and thought that the dealers would not scam or rip
them off. They were little pawns for the dealer to mess with. They were not even given the money
in the end. The Crusaders were just manipulated the Crusaders to do the dirty work for Dandolo.
Another wrong choice they made was disobeying the letters from the pope. According to

Stranger
Thomas Mann s Tonio Kroeger and Albert Camus s The Stranger
Introduction
The literary characters of Meursault and Tonio Kroeger are likely depicted as outsiders in the
novels The Stranger by Albert Camus and Tonio Kroeger by Thomas Mann. The novels can both be
described as existentialist investigations. In the school of philosophy, existentialism seeks to
investigate the relationship between individuals and the society, the meaning of life, and the
unavoidable conflicts in interpersonal relationships among other inquisitions (Sleasman, 2014).
Existentialism is evident in the two novels under review as the characters are treated as outsiders.
Albert Camus The Stranger The concept of the outsider is demonstrated by the two lead
characters namely Meursault and Tonio Kroeger. In The Stranger, Meursault is depicted as an
outsider both in himself as well as the society as owing to his criminal tendencies as he battles to
show emotions and link with realities regarding his life (Sleasman, 2014). Meursault is depicted as
much disconnected to the current world and life either emotionally or socially. For instance, the
opening scene shows how Meursault reacts to his mother s death. His lack of remorse and loss is
both salient and borders on the pathological. By falling asleep during his mother s funeral; the
action demonstrates the lack of feelings and social competence which children are usually expected
to show to their parents (Camus, 2012). Furthermore, he consents

Alchemy Of Race
Postcolonial historian Matthew Frye Jacobson in Whiteness of a Different Color: European
Immigrants and the Alchemy of Race traces the racial odyssey of immigrants from Eastern and
Southern Europe who were at п¬Ѓrst regarded as racial other, and then relegated to the status
between black and white, and finally inclusive as Caucasian white. These in between groups were
classified as Hebrews, Celts, Mediterraneans, Iberics, Slavs, Teutons, and the like in nineteenth

7). During this period, the population of European origin was homogeneous, while the population
of color combination was starkest. Jacobson explains that the 1790 law codified the assumptions
of white privilege dating from the seventeenth century colonial charters, statutory law, and the
Articles of Confederation. The idea of citizenship was weaved with whiteness and maleness
before the Revolution, because citizen was someone who could help put down a slave rebellion or
participate in Indian wars (p. 25). The only chattel slaves were of African descent, the only savages
were the indigenous peoples, and most of the rest were British descended Christians. The 1790 law
set a mandating precedent that even the uncivilized immigrants from Europe could automatically be
regarded as whites, in contrast to the Indians and black slaves.
Jacobson claims that the second phase of American nativism history from the 1840s to 1924 is
mainly the history of a fundamental revision of whiteness (p. 68). The unitary concept of whiteness
was shattered by the arrival of the Celts during the mid nineteenth century, and of Hebrews, Italians,
Slavs, and others at the end of the century. Large numbers of Catholic German and Irish famine
peasants raised the questions about white entitlement and the capacities for republican citizenship
of newly immigrants who were attaining citizenship as white people. To maintain the privilege of
whiteness, Anglo

Teens Tend Model Suicide Behaviors
As youth grow and continue to develop they tend to engage in suicidal behaviors due to
modeling, according to Insel and Gould (2008) teens tend model suicide behaviors due to
exposure in the media, exposure from other suicidal peers and a cluster of suicides in their
general area. A comprehensive image of risk in young people requires also the consideration of
the family s psychopathology and environmental properties. Young children and teenagers also
tend to have under developed pre fontal cortex in which logic and comprehensive thinking is
located, by having an under developed pre fontal cortex young children and teens tend to process
their current mental state from the Amygdala, in which is known to process emotions and reduces
the ability to think logically and rationally. In adult males that have ended their life due to self

Freak The Mighty Rodman Friendship Quotes
In The Book, Freak The Mighty Rodman Philbrick discusses how friendship is a big part of this
book, and how Freak and Max s friendship have created and inseparable strong connection, and
have made them stronger. This story is also a very touching, and it really shows how they have
an amazing friendship. To start of, in life we all protect each other, or at least try to. One of
these examples is Freak saves Max from his dad. One quote is put your hands up villian and its
sulfuric acid . Freak was trying to save Max from his dad, so he made up lies, and said it was
sulfuric acid, and when Freak squirted the gun he believed it. Not then that Freak just saved Max,
put he also saved Loretta as well from getting hurt even more. And why this connects to the theme
of friendship make you stronger, and how friendship is a big part of this book. Well Freak was
doing a great favour, he saved them. Don t you think that if your friend saved you, wouldn t you

Tipping Point Analysis
A Synthesis of Tipping Points The 21st century experiences countless fashions and trends as they
come and go.
There are many new shirts, new book genres, new flashy games etc. that are not uncommon news
headlines. However, one must consider exactly how these trends spill into mainstream outlets in
the first place. What causes an arbitrary fashion choice to become the epitome of a teenage girl s
dream shoe closet? What causes a noxious and hazardous activity to become a full blown
addiction? In Malcolm Gladwell s The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big
Difference, he focuses on finding the answer to such questions. His work specifically proposes a
theory on how mainstream epidemics gain initial traction and can simply tip and grow
exponentially. A mainstream trend does not merely appear without warning most likely, the
thought behind the trend had been around for a while. According to Gladwell, in order for a
trend to grow amidst the influx of newer trends, three types of people must be working hard
behind the scenes. In the chapter Case Study: Rumors, Sneakers, and the Power of Translation ,
Gladwell details the roles of Connectors, Mavens, and Salesmen, and how they unknowingly act
together as a bridge between hipsters and mainstream media. Gladwell s assessment of the
Connectors is valid, as they play the role of the bridge itself as he/she has to be cogent and merge
two completely different strata. An excellent portrayal of this would be Gladwell s example

Buddhist Doctrine Of Karma Essay example
The Buddhist doctrine of karma ( quot;deeds quot;, quot;actions quot;), and the closely related
doctrine of rebirth, are perhaps the best known, and often the least understood, of Buddhist
doctrines. The matter is complicated by the fact that the other Indian religious traditions of
Hinduism and Jainism have their own theories of Karma and Reincarnation. It is in fact the Hindu
versions that are better known in the West. The Buddhisttheory of karma and rebirth are quite
distinct from their other Indian counterparts.
In Buddhism the law of karma is the moral law of causation good actions give good results and
vice versa. It is the quality of an act, which determines its consequences. But what determines the
karmic quality of a deed? In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Buddhist theory of rebirth asserts that the fruits of some karma may manifest themselves in
quot;future lives quot;. This brings us to the Buddhist theory of rebirth. Similar concepts occur in
other religious systems e.g. the Platonic theory of the quot;pre existence of the soul quot; and the
Hindu Jain theory of re incarnation. Such reincarnation theory involves the transmigration of a soul.
In Buddhism, however, it is the unripened karmic acts outstanding at the death of an individual,
which conditions a new birth. The last moment of consciousness too is also a conditioning factor,
but it is the store of unripened karma generated by volitional acts (the sankhГўras) of previous
existences which generates the destiny of the new individual. A newly born individual needs not
only the genetic blueprint derived from the genes of the natural parents, but also a karmic blueprint
derived from the volitional acts of a deceased person.
The question has been posed whether the new individual is the same as the old individual whose
karma it has inherited. The Buddha s answer to this question was somewhat enigmatic: quot;It is
not the same, yet it is not another quot; (na ca so, na ca aГ±Г±o). To understand the Buddha s
reply we have to investigate the criteria, which establish personal identity. Is the child the same as

Current Crm And Erp Systems And Procedures
We have evaluated our current CRM and ERP systems and procedures. Currently, there is a custom
module that is causing performance issues including failed registration orders. This results in
Customer Service staff having to re enter registration orders, as well additional work for Finance
staff. This custom module also creates a barrier when upgrading our ERP system.
Eliminating the custom module in our ERP system will relieve our system of these performance
issues and allow the Registration orders to be processed within another system, GoSignMeUp.
This will result in a more effective process and also allow Retail Sales to be processed differently.
With less stress on customer duplicates, our ERP system can integrate with the websiteweb ... Show

Since the CRM and ERP system was not built out of the box to handle registrations in any form,
CRS has used a third party application to handle those types of orders. That third party app was
clunky, slow and caused many data integrity issues.
In April 2014, we removed that application from the systems and customized a module of the ERP
system to handle registrations. This was a major improvement for our internal processes and system
performance. It put our system back to a more normal, out of the box setting, with the minor custom
configuration to an ERP module. However, there are still some issues with this custom module:
Sometimes the system does not register the participant correctly, and re invoicing has to occur
The ability to upgrade is effected we would have to remove the custom module, upgrade the system,
and reinstall an upgraded version of the custom module. This would require more development time.
The current custom module prevents us from integrating into the website which would be ideal for
streamlining the retail product order process
This report will discuss my proposal for a project of implementing an online registration and event
management system. Specifically, GoSignMeUp (GSMU). Essentially, this will separate the Retail
Sales order process and the Registration order process. This will eliminate the need for a custom
module in our existing ERP system.
GoSignMeUp vs. Custom Module
We would implement GSMU to process registration

The History Of The Internet
The history of the Internet starts with the making of electronic computers in the 1950 s. After a
bunch of rabble The first concepts of the Internet were invented in the 1960 s who saw much use
in allowing computers to share information. It was mainly used for scientific and military
purposes, research, development, and sorts. J.C.R. Licklider of MIT first suggested the idea of a
global network of computers in 1962. He moved to the Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency to develop the Internet. A while later, the Internet was brought online in 1969, but was
previously known as ARPANET. It was done under contract with the renamed Advanced
Research Projects Agency. At first, It connected four major computers, which were located in
different universities. The mystical Internet was designed to provide a communications network
that would still function even if some dominant sites were down. The early Internet was used by
computer experts, engineers, scientists, and librarians. There were no personal computers back
in the day, and everyone who used it had to learn an extremely complex system. Two scores and
three years ago, (1972) Email was adapted by Ray Tomlinson. He selected the @ symbol from the
available symbols on his teletype to link a username and address. Some time later in the 70 s, the
Internet developed further, thanks to TCP/IP architecture initially proposed by Bob Kahn. In 1986

Breaking The Limitations In Music
Music has always been seen as a way of entertainment. Throughout many eras musicians have kept
their ways to their traditions. From instrumentation to the composition itself. Throughout the ages,
music has mostly been a set in stone factor. But since the 20th century things have begun to
change. Musicians are breaking away from the traditions of the past and reaching new areas of
music. Technology is developing to creating new sounds and instruments can change how to be
played and used. That musical styles have been developed and the compositions have altered with
devices that can record and playback music in your own home ... Show more content on

With his developments, the music world has heard a new sound. One of his major creations in
music is in fact a wire recorder. This machine may not seem like much but it has been able record
then playback music in your own home without the instruments themselves. This has truly become
a great breakthrough instead of needing a musician in the household to keep smaller gatherings
entertained. Now they can be entertained with only themselves. As said by brindle: (One of the first
electronic music compositions John Cage s Imaginary Landscape No. 1 (1939) had oscillator
frequencies recorded on two 78 r.p.m. gramophone records, but normally such a system was too
expensive and inflexible to be practicable.) It took a world war to produce what was almost the
right instrument the wire recorder which was later replaced by the tape recorder, so
manipulated, made permanent, or discarded, with incredible ease and at negligible cost. Once
the tape recorder was perfected (about 1950), and its potentialities fully realized, other electronic
sound equipment (either already existing or suitably modified) could be assembled to form the
first electronic music studio (99, Brindle). This development of the Wire recorder has lead to
such great historical developments. From the wire recorder lead to the tape recorder and soon
music was able to be taken anywhere anyone wished it to be. The development of the wire
recorder was originally made by John Cage

Who Is Abraham Lincoln A Good President
The best US president was easily Abraham Lincoln. He accomplished a lot of things as president
such as putting an end to slavery as well as he had plenty of amazing speeches that had some of the
best quotes and these together made the people love him.
The way president Lincoln ended slavery was tactful and necessary. He initially started as
antislavery and transitioned to emancipation. The quote Abraham Lincoln issued the preliminary
Emancipation Proclamation, declaring all slaves in rebel states should be free as of Jan. 1, 1863,
(Paul) expresses how he even had a preliminary proclamation to test the waters first. If it wasn t a
gradual change away from slavery then the southern states would have detached from the rest of
the US and been their own country where slavery was allowed. The way Abraham Lincoln did this
was by instating laws that forbade slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the more famous ones is described as he issued a stirring plea for the country to pay them
tribute by honoring principles liberty, equality worth dying for (Time Inc.). He had so many good
quotes he even had a memorial named after him filled with his quotes. They are inscribed on the
seat he sits in and in the walls all around it. His famous speeches are also within the memorial for
the people to read.
Most people love Abraham Lincoln due to his great speeches and having abolished slavery. These
are great because a great leader needs to be loved by the people. There was never a profound leader
who wasn t loved by the people he ruled over. Even some communists that accomplished grand
goals were loved by their people.
In conclusion, Abraham Lincoln is the best president. He helped abolish slavery, he had excellent
speeches, and was loved by many of the people of and beyond his time. These are what make him
a great president worthy of being called the best.

Why Homework Is Homework
There are many students who realize that it is important to get good grades. But those students
are also stressed, exhausted, and frustrated. How would you feel if you had to study for more
than three hours a day just to earn a good grade? If you re a student, you probably fall into the
category of those who do not have time to do things other than school. You may also feel as though
homeworkdoesn t actually do anything. Most students get so busy with activities outside of
school and just simply do not have time to do homework or study for a test for 5 hours. So ask
yourself, is all of this necessary? Or can all of this unnecessary stress be avoided?
Of course, nobody truly knows if homework is actually effective or not. It may be stressing
student out for no good reason. Many students said they often do homework they see as pointless
or mindless in order to keep their grades up. Homework should have a purpose and a benefit. It
should be designed to actually teach kids instead of stress them out. It would be one thing to have
as much homework that is assigned if students actually learned or benefited from it, but it doesn t
do anything besides worry them.

Wound Healing Essay
The healing of wounds particularly chronic wounds is currently an important area of research. With
more than 6.5 million patients in the United States dealing with chronic wounds, and $25 billion
spent yearly on treatments (Sen et al, 2009), a better understanding of the wound healing process is
beneficial to a wide range of patients dealing with wounds related to accidents, burns, and disease
processes. It has been suggested that therapeutic strategies to promote wound healingmight focus on
immune systemmodulation (Julier, 2017). The overall progression of a healing wound involves
multiple types of cells, cellular processes, and growth factors (Strbo, 2014). However, significant

(Godwin Rosenthal, 2014). Additionally, research has demonstrated that during wound healing,
changes occur in the thymus (the organ in which T cell maturation occurs) revealing increases in
thymus size, changes in morphology, and proliferation of a variety of immune cells within the
medulla (Franchini Bertolotti 2014).
Research Goals
We propose to study the relationship between the thymus, T cells, and wound healing by
performing larval thymectomy to generate T cell deficient tadpoles and frogs. Alternatively, many
studies have demonstrated that mice missing the recombinase activating gene (RAG) are deficient
in functional B and T lymphocytes (Thompson, 1992; Mombaerts et al, 1992; BelizГЎrio, 2009).
Our study can be accomplished by the use of RAG knockout frogs, which we hope to obtain.
Regardless of the method of obtaining T cell deficient tadpoles and frogs, wound healing will be
evaluated by a combination of molecular and histological techniques. Our goal is to better
understand the role T lymphocytes have in wound healing.
Research Plan
Generating tadpoles and frogs without a thymus Microscope guided electrocautery of the thymic
lobes will be performed on early stage (Niewkoop Farber, NF, stages 42 48) tadpoles. The
procedure will consist of first anesthetizing the tadpole, then using sharpened tungsten wires

How Effective Teachers Become Partners With Parents
Effective Teachers Become Partners with Parents
Introduction
The success of students depends on effective teaching and this efficient coaching is not required
occasionally but every day in every classroom and discipline. An effective teacher not only
influences the students academic interests but also has a great influence on his//her physical,
societal, emotional, and behavioral good (Killion Hirsh, 2011). Teachers have a direct influence on
how students learn, what they learn, how much they learn, and the ways they interact with one
another and the world around them (Korkmaz, 2007). This effect on student achievement is
understandable and apparent because the student achievement starts and finishes with the
excellence, the instructional program, and guidance of the teacher (Korkmaz, 2007). However, the
occurrence of effective teaching is only possible when every concerned member including parents
/families, officials, community members, and educationalists contribute to the process of
uninterrupted progress and student achievement. An effective teacher is familiar with the fact that
in order to improve his/her teaching methods, effective professional learning is the only influential
pathway (Killion Hirsh, 2011). One of the eight principles for effective teaching outlined in Literacy
for the 21st century: A Balanced Approach is that effective teachers become partners with parents
(Tompkins, Campbell Green, 2012). It is not an untold secret that home and

The Positivism Criminology s Theory Of Human Evolution
The Positivism criminology developed in early XIX century together and was based on belief in
science as a higher form of knowledge. The main features are determinisms, which assume that
criminal behaviour can be conditioned by certain factors, not controlled by man. Second is
individualism, specifically oriented on offender, not on criminal act itself. In contrary to classic
theory, positivism believes that crimecommitted by human is not the result of decision making (free
will), but combination of different factors, like biology, psychology and sociology. Positivist had
significant part in changing Criminal Justice System, they encouraged validity of treatment and
reformations programs as way of improvement. The major influence on biological positivism had
English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809 82) and his publications On the Orgin of Species (1859),
which enclose theory of human evolution. According to Darwin, humans come from animals and
as them are subject to laws of nature rather than free will Burke, (2009, p.63). The worth
mentioning here is atavism the nation that some individuals are born with features of more
primitive forms of humanity...less suited to human civilization; more prone to aggression, with less

The Contributions Of Rosalind Franklin
Rosalind Franklin was a chemist who made a profound contribution as a result of her work with
DNA. Prior to this time, DNA was still a mystery in how impactful its purpose could be to society
and the growing age of science and technology. DNA became of importance to learn about the
foundation in relation to genetic and hereditary. Without the contribution of Franklin, todays
understanding of the DNAstructure would not exist. Rosalind Franklin died before the Nobel
Peace Prize was given for the discovery of DNA. If she been alive, her receipt of the award would
have been justifiable. Despite her death, Rosalind Franklin demonstrated the knowledge and
research essential for understanding deoxyribonucleic acid and as a result should receive
recognition in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize.
Rosalind Franklin s work on DNA was crucial in discovering the composition of the human body
as a whole. Her x ray photo revealed a double helix structure and she also discovered the A and B
form of DNA. She worked through the adversity of being a female in a predominately male
dominated realm and made remarkable findings that were eventually stolen. She adapted to a new
lab with antiquated technology. Before this discovery, the structure of DNA was thought to be
simple. Scientist, Watson and Crick, started with the wrong structure of DNA from a
misinterpretation of notes from one of Franklin s presentations. Unlike Watson and Crick, Rosalind
Franklin could explain DNA and how it worked.

The Importance Of Immigrants In Germany
Germany is quite accepting of immigrants and they are very welcoming. Germany has the second
largest immigrant population in Europe, United Kingdom is the largest. Immigrants have
contributed greatly to the prosperity of the German economy. A representative study shows that
foreign workers in Germany significantly contribute to the Bundesrepublik s prosperity (Lorenz,
2017). At any rate, the German economy is suffering from labour shortage and is urgently in need
of immigrants to counter an ageing demographic . Germany needs its immigrants to be doing much
more than making doner kebabs it needs them in its banks, its government offices, universities, and
IT companies (Sampath, 2016). Based on data from the OECD and the German statistics office, the
study shows that Germany s cultural diversity happens to be a major contributor to its economic
success. Immigrants make up 9.6% of the population and one in five Germans has a migration
background. The fact that Germany s immigrationrate is so high only tells half the story though
(Lorenz, 2017). The number of foreign specialists in Germany s main industries is what really
stresses the importance of immigration. Studies have proven that relatively poor performing
Bundesländer, with fewer foreign workers, could positively influence innovation and economic
success by attracting talented personnel from abroad (Lorenz, 2017). Also, as stated by Movinga,

government. He was also the supporter of the Tamil tigers (a listed terrorist organization) and had
done some fundraising for them in the past. Minister of immigration filed a certificate under s.40.1
of the immigration act saying that Suresh was inadmissible to Canada on security grounds. Suresh
was confined the next day. The certificate was mentioned to the Federal Court for determination of
whether it was rational, and the court approve the Ministers decision. He was given a deportation
hearing, and the board held that while Suresh was not straightforward involved in terrorism, his
membership in a terrorist group was adequate grounds for extradition. Under s. 53(1)(b), the
Minister gave notice to Suresh that she was considering issuing an judgement that she well thought
out him to be a danger to the safety of Canada, which would permit the Minister to extradite him
despite the risk of torture. Accordingly, Suresh submitted composed and narrative proof on this
theme. A migration officer, Gautier, considered Suresh s entries, and found that permitting Suresh
to stay in Canada would run counter to Canada s duties to battle against

The Shakespearian Authorship Controversy Analysis
The Shakespearian Authorship Controversy
By Hyrum Shingleton To be or not to be, is a famous question Shakespeare asked his audience in
the Hamlet over 200 years ago, yet people are still asking To be or not to be Shakespeare? That is
the real question. They are like the foolish man believing he is the wise man, going around
teaching a false doctrine. They believe that their favorite candidate for Shakespeare is, and
always will be Shakespeare. No matter how obvious that there is no way he was ever Shakespeare.
Shakespeare is the real Shakespeare because we have no proof for someone else, why wouldn t they
claim it and two of the four head candidates were dead. Shakespeare is Shakespeare.
The very first thing to notice, is the fact that, yes there isn t much evidence for Shakespeare, but
guess what, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nowadays you hear a good, popular song on the radio and you love it. You start listening to all
their music and BOOM, you get hit in the face. The band or artists is getting sued because they
stole the idea from another group or something like that. Same with this, if it really had been
Edward de Vere, why wouldn t he claim the writing of the work, especially after it was published.
He was an important figure, or else we wouldn t have heard of him, especially in the court. He
could have done their equivalent of suing if he had really written all of Shakespeare s plays.
Because of the information gathered from the Money, money, money article on oxfraud.com, I
know Shakespeare was very rich. Ed could have become very rich, like William Shakespeare rich, if
he wanted to just put his names on the papers, if he actually had written them. Not just that, but
we wouldn t have even heard of William Shakespeare if Ed had claimed Shakespeare s plays, we
would only be studying Edward. And best of all, you wouldn t have had to spend your valuable
time reading this essay, and you don t need to worry, it only gets better from

Claude Debussy s `` Claire De Lune ``
Claude Debussy was born in France on August 22, 1862 during a decade in which Roger Nichols
s claims was one of the low points of French musical life (4). Debussy clashed with the musical
norms of his time due to his fascination with writing music for how it sounds and feels. Lesure
writes, Ever since his years at the Conservatoire, Debussy had felt that he had more to learn from
artists than from career obsessed musicians (5). Debussy composed from the ideas around him
and this is heard in his composition of Clair de lune . Claude Debussy s Claire de lune is one of
his most beloved and known piano works. Clair de lune is the third movement of Debussy s piano
concerto, Suite Bergamasque, published in 1905 and offers a view into the complexity and
originality of Claude Debussy. Clair de lune beautifully displays Debussy s fascination with nature
and symbolist poetry. Debussy uses form and atmospheric phrasing to depict the melancholic and
subdued beauty of nature.
In 1903 Debussy wrote, Music is a mysterious form of mathematics whose elements are derived
from the infinite. Music is the expression of the movement of the waters, the play of curves
described by changing breezes. There is nothing more musical than a sunset. (Vallas 8) Debussy
felt a strong connection with the arts and nature. According to the Oxford Music Online article on
Claude Debussy, written by Francois Lesure and Roy Howat, Debussy once said, I love pictures
almost as much as music .

An island located in the Pacific about 700 miles southwest of Acapulco. Clipperton is a circular
coral atoll of 2 square miles, completely with a lagoon. Temperatures are tropical and the vegetation

the ruins of a 19th century lighthouse and a tuna fishing station. 115 species of fish have been
identified in the vicinity of the island.
On September 14, 2016 I had a plan to go to a field trip with my friend Bella, both of us were

Music Is All Around Us
Music is all around us. At the start of the 21st century, technology in industrialised societies
provides us with easy access to a vast amount of recorded music. We can listen to our favourite
music at home, in the car, on the train; on home stereos, personal stereos, and through our
computers. We are also often surrounded by musicwhich we have not chosen, at the shops, waiting
for a train, even at the doctor s.
Research is beginning to show how music has the power to change the way we feel, think, and
behave. We know that music can lift our mood, and certain kinds of music can temporarily boost
specific kinds of intelligence. Listening to our favourite music can even help us tolerate high levels
of pain.
What do we know about how young children engage with music? There has been quite a lot of
research looking at the very early years. We know that babies can remember music from even
before birth. My own study with the Child of Our Time group in 2001 showed that exposure to a
particular piece of music before birth had long lasting effects, as the babies seemed to prefer
listening to that music up to 15 months after birth. Other studies have explored the features of
maternal singing, showing how this can make the baby feel calm.
There are also studies of babies responses to music in the lab that show them to be really very
sophisticated listeners. In their first year, babies can notice all kinds of small differences in musical
sequences, and are even better than

Student Justifications for Abusing Adderall
What Are U of M Students Perceptions of Adderall?
INTRODUCTION
With the increased pressure to succeed and the chaotic collegiate lifestyle taking a toll on students,
Adderall has evolved into the go to drug. The Class II prescription amphetamine is intended to
solely treat individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. The
stimulant works to enhance concentration by stimulating the production of dopamine and
norepinephrine in the brain (Stolz 585). Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of
Adderall on college campuses to enhance academic performance and cram for exams through the
over stimulation of the brain, therefore creating super enhanced focus (Stolz 585), deeming it the
smart drug. Due to the fact that several students are not truly diagnosed with ADHD, a majority of
this use on campuses is illegal; this has become a growing problem affecting the health of students
and entailing issues of competiveness and fairness (Jacobs 1). In recent years, the abuse of
Adderall has circulated hundreds of college campuses and even secondary schools.
Unfortunately, students are being deceived by the stimulant drug s valuable qualities, masking the
serious, detrimental effects that the drug induces. Even worse, contributing to Adderall s extensive
abuse across campuses, instead of condemnation it is implicitly being praised and validated by
parents and students who view these drugs as a means of academic

Dangers Of Earthquakes
1. What are some of the dangers of having an earthquake in large cities? There are many significant
dangers of having earthquakes in large cities such as
Large amounts of people being at risk
Lots of large structures such as buildings
Set off landslides
Tsunamis
The devastation of the Earthquake can differ depending on the location and environment of the
country the Earthquake occurs. Countries that have fault lines close to the ocean are more at risk
of having large Tsunamis. These waves can reach speeds of up to 500 kilometres per hour and
cause massive devastation to anything in their path (ABC 2017). Some places such as New
Zealand are more likely to have things such as landslides since the country has large amounts of
hills and countryside.
2. What are 2 ways to make building that survive earthquakes? You may include a diagram to
help you explain. 1. Buildings are designed to support the walls, roof and all the stuff inside to
keep them standing. Earthquakes present a lateral/sideways, load to the building structure that is a
bit more complicated to prepare for. One way to make a simple structure more resistant to a quake
is to tie the walls, floor, roof, and foundations into a rigid box that holds together when shaken by a
quake (Imagination Station 2017)
2. Using materials that can bend without breaking helps make buildings more shock absorbent.
Materials such as steel being embedded into the walls can make a

The Influence Of Folk Music In The 1920 s
Music has imbedded its roots into the American culture, and its branches of different genres are
heard by millions every day. The music of America is one big melting pot that is a reflection of
society s own cultural melting pot, and the expressions of its people centered around what was
happening during that time period. Popular musicis believed to reflect the mood of the country
during that period including important events. The presence of African Americans in popular

than minstrelsy, and would bring new music that would be vibrant and modern. Folk music is
the music of the working class with songs ranging from work, war, hardships, and civil rights.
According to the history of folk music, in the early twentieth century Americans struggled to
cope with child labor. Many would meet in churches where they learned songs which helped
them cope with their own working environments. The classic blues in the early 1920 s such as
music created by Bessie Smith gave African American female singers a voice by the ability to
discuss their personal lives through song. Her emotionally charged lyrics and her delivery gave
the deep blue mood that is associated with blues music. This can be compared to the rise of hip

How To Write A Dialectical Journal For Wuthering Heights
Book Review: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
3 Important quotes
In vapid listlessness I leant my head against the window, and continued spelling over Catherine
Earnshaw Heathcliff Linton, till my eyes closed; but they had not rested five minutes when a
glare of white letters started from the dark, as vivid as spectres the air swarmed with Catherines;
and rousing myself to dispel the obtrusive name, I discovered my candle wick reclining on one of
the antique volumes, and perfuming the place with an odour of roasted calf skin.
This quote represents the first point of the book in which Lockwood realizes the Heights hold a
secret no one wants him to know about. It stirs up his curiosity about the past affairs at Wuthering
Heights and leads him to inquire about the story. He doesn t know why this woman s name is
scratched into the wall so many times with such precision and curiosity. This leads him to
investigate the woman and her past relationship with Heathcliff, who loved her enough to ask her to
haunt him.

been at Wuthering Heights, which is involved in a lot of painful events and bad experiences for
characters such as Cathy s bondage and the abuse of Heathcliff by his brother Hindley. The

Solo And Ensemble Critique
I have went to Solo and Ensemble a few times in the past, and this year s music piece was the
hardest one that I had to do. It was a challenge to play the piece right. What I go on my piece was
what I deserved. The piece that I picked was a class B which was the same class as my last year s
piece. My last year s piece was much slower than this year s piece. My musicpiece that I picked
was not something that the Catholic Christian Faith influenced me to play it, it was my choice
of which piece I know I have to ability to play it well for Solo and Ensemble. I did play my piece
well but there were things that I still need to work on. The things I need to work on are keeping
my flute straight, not on a slant and keep my lips firm. My piece, Siciliana and Giga, was a
challenging piece for me. The piece may have been a class B like last year s piece but it was
more challenging than last year s piece. Siciliana and Giga starts out in a moderate speed and
then suddenly get faster half way through it. Serenade, which was last year s piece, is a slower
piece than Siciliana and Giga, and the tempo is the same throughout the entire piece. It took a lot
of time and effort to play the song right. I never felt like quitting on my piece because I picked a
song that I know i can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Song Of Myself

entities equally, or it will fail. According to an online article, Song of Myself might be the most
egotistical poem ever written: it s all about me, myself, and I. In the first line, American poet
Walt Whitman kindly informs us that he is going to celebrate himself, and throughout 52
glorious sections, he does just that. It takes guts to write a long epic poem about yourself, and
Whitman was nothing if not gutsy (Shmoop). Edward Estlin Cummings eliminates himself from
the poem by consuming a speaker within a speaker. Both speakers think practically of

The Giver Movie And Book Differences

movie adaption was made of the beloved story. While maintaining the same theme, the movie

as well as the similarities. What will the movie have that the book doesn t? Read on and discover
what is the same and what is different regarding, The Giver.
Let s start off with the similarities between the movie and novel. A significant similarity is that
both the movie and novel have the ceremony of 12 s, along with the event of every newborn
receiving a comfort object. Going on,,Gabe, (the child that never really grew to the standards of the
community) is scheduled for release in the movie and novel. Last but not least,, when Jonas and
Gabe are nearing the end of their long trek to Elsewhere, Jonas experiences an odd feeling (joy)
that leaves the story on a cliffhanger. All in all, many similarities can be found within the book and
movie, leaving us left with the general idea of the plot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How are Literacy, Fluency and Reading Comprehension...
Literacy, fluency and reading comprehension all play a crucial role in determining how learners
acquire skills within the classroom. This paper will review a number of scholarly literatures that
give more details about fluency and reading comprehension.
Over a long period of time, the ability of a learner to read educational materials fluently has been
taken as the most thorough learning method through which the learner can acquire literacy. Kuhn,
Schwanenflugel and Meisinger (2010) argue that reading fluency should not only focus on
automatic word recognition as a way to assess the ability of a learner (p. 231). The authors argue
that there should be other methods to assess reading fluency through prosody, which can influence

Learners can have reading partners who can offer them confidence to improve on their reading
skills. By doing so, an instructor offers the learners the chance to nurture their skills in
comprehension, vocabulary, fluency. All these skills are vital for a learner to acquire the
proper educational abilities that can have a lasting impact on the learner s ability. The instructor
can help a learner to succeed in a reading program by offering the learner a chance to decode the
meaning of the words read easily through practice. Pikulski and Chard (2005) argue that reading
fluency can prove to be a vital bridge for a learner to perfect his or her skills in reading
comprehension (p 511). Therefore, the ability of the learner to read the instructional material
fluently is likely to have a direct impact on the same learner s ability to decode the meaning behind
the statement read. Fluency therefore makes it possible for learners to acquire the necessary skills
that can foster their ability to read and understand comprehension easily. Fluency equips a learner
with accurate word recognition abilities that can be central in the way the learner interprets the
meaning that is carried across the literature read. The instructors therefore can help learners
improve on their fluency by offering constant practical reading session, which can give

  • 2. Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade Essay Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade The U.S. has a huge trade imbalance with most trading nations. The imbalance is not in agriculture, although many food products both raw and processed enter the U.S. at prices below those for comparable U.S. grown foodstuffs. To a large degree the imbalanceis in manufactured goods. One reason is that many nations have lower costs of production based upon a lower standard of living, cheap labor, inexpensive raw materials, protective government policy, etc. Multinationals who have moved their plants to foreign locations enjoy the best of both worlds inexpensive manufacturing costs and unlimited access to the world s biggest consumer market, the USA. Our laissez faire trade stance, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s logical to believe that the foreign trading entity will not leave all the tariff money and accrued interest to go into the U.S. Treasury by default. It will purchase a like amount of goods and services to wipe out the trade credit account. Analyze what happened: No one got taken advantage of. America got the imported goods. The foreign entity received a like amount of American goods or services. The trade books are balanced. All monies earned interest every step of the way. The U.S. didn t allow inexpensive foreign goods to displace American goods on price alone. It made the foreign goods compete on a quality basis with American goods. American consumers will make the choice of which is better at a comparable price. If the foreign goods are really superior to the American goods, then the foreign manufacturer will have earned an increased share of the world market and the U.S. manufacturer or ag producer will have to get more competitive or go out of business. The reverse is also true so the free market and the law of supply and demand still gets a chance to work, but it works on the basis of quality and value, not upon inherent differences in world standards of living. Is it logical for the U.S. to unilaterally adopt Equity of Trade? It is logical if Americans want to continue the nation s constitutional directive to protect the American ... • 3. James Baldwin’s Visions Of America and Richard... James Baldwin s Visions Of America and Richard Rodriguez s Hunger of Memory Many immigrant and minority narratives concentrate their efforts on the positive side of the American dream. These particular stories narrate a person s struggle and rise through the ranks of the Am6rican hierarchy focusing on the opportunities that seem to abound in this country. While these stories are well and good. they do seem to soft peddle the flip side of this country s attitude toward the immigrant and minority. America is a land of milk and honey and opportunity, but unfortunately most new officiates or unwilling participants in the American culture face an American nightmare that leaves its effects on the individuals, families and cultures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this paper will be to explore the role of education and politics, in these authors lives, as tools used to create paths of advancement and as the bridge that spans the abyss that now lies between themselves and their respective cultures. James Baldwin grew up in the slums of Harlem within a family dynamic that was less than ideal) Struggling to reconcile his adolescent feelings of inferiority, placed on him by his stepfather, Baldwin also dealt with the bigotry and hatred that existed between white and black Americans. Trudier Harris writes of Baldwin s adolescence by saying, He had to find a way of reconciling bitter memories and hatred with the need to move forward into a healthy and hate free future (3). Baldwin managed to find solace, in part, within the realm of creative writing, and his excellent abilities helped him to gain entrance into the prestigious DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. David Leeming, in his biography of James Baldwin, explains that DeWitt Clinton had been the previous learning center of such notable names as Burt Lancaster, Paddy Chayefsky and Neil Simon (26). Baldwin s admission was certainly a personal coup and revealed an upward momentum in his own scholastic life that would be the basis for his astonishing success. His scholarly pursuits did not end with his graduation, but continued on with him to the streets of Paris, where as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effect Of String Function On An Accidental Of A... One does not need to use words to convey a message. Dots and lines on a page can convey emotion just as well, if not better. Music can fill in the context where words cannot. The simple switch between major to minor, an accidental of a natural or a flat can easily show the motion of a piece. As a cellist for over six years, I wanted to understand the fundamental idea of why notes were audible. I asked myself, why do I press down on certain parts of the strings on a cello to produce certain notes? How are sound waves calculated? With these two questions in mind, I dove in with the desire to apply a different perspective of music. Diagram 1 One of the earliest discoveries of how string function comes from the Greek philosopher, Pythagoras. The wavelength and pinches between strings are what differentiate the varying notes. As shown in Diagram 1, the wavelengths have specific spacing in between, which are directly related to mathematics. Nodes, or pinches, are strategically and mathematically placed to resonate precise pitches, and particular ratios are able to be derived from these intervals. For example, an octave describes two notes that are eight notes apart. In order to create the perfect first octave, the string is pinched into perfect halves, making the mathematical ratio , as 2 parts are created from the whole with one pinch. By pinching the string in half, the frequency becomes twice as fast , producing a higher tone of the same note. One octave higher than an A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, if people actually paid attention to those advertisements the readers would find that they think some of the ads should not have been allowed. An ad for Miss Dior perfumewas presented in a late issue of Vogue with a model who looks to be about twenty four years old. The model has shoulder length blonde hair, a clear skin tone, and a facial expression that could be considered provocative. The model is naked and only covered by a dress that she holds up which still only covers a portion of her top, middle section, and private area. Despite this dress, her complete right leg, thigh, arm, neck, and shoulders are revealed. In the foreground is a Miss Dior perfume bottle with the words Miss Dior and you, what would you do for love? . In Jean Kilbourne s Killing Us Softly 4, she states that advertisements often send certain messages about women. Kilbourne claims that unrealistic ideas of women are often proposed within ads, such as symbolizing women as objects and not people, or even the idea that if you are not beautiful, then you are nothing. In the Dior advertisement, a few of its aspects uphold statements made by Jean Kilbourne such as sexualizing models to sell a product, emphasizing the idea of looking young and attractive, and placing models in vulnerable positions. The main thought of the Miss Dior ad that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Statement of the problem One of the most critical and gigantic problem which most of the developing countries have been facing is that of poverty and special backwardness. These countries tend to be very anxious to overcome these problems. During the last two decades these developing countries have been initiating a number of development programmes and projects under their development plans aiming at increasing production, adopting technologies for modernization and social change, optimizing use of scarce resources, and above all raising the standard of living of the millions of people condemned to poverty, inequality and unemployment. Thus the public sector growth is one of the natural consequences of planned economy. It is the public enterprises which constitute the most important Institutional framework for achieving these objectives. The problem of poverty, inequality and stagnation in the developing countries to be as daunting as ever in spite of massive programme of modernisation and social change were undertaken by these countries. This has happened due to unsuccessful implementation of development projects. Existence of a plan does not by any means ensure its effective implementation. The Thought experiments in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five or the Children s Crusade: A Duty Dance With Death In 1945 Kurt Vonnegut witnessed a horrific series of bombings that led to the destruction of the German city of Dresden, where he was taken as a prisoner of war. The controversial fire storm raid, carried out by bombers of the Royal Air Force and US Air Force, took casualties of up to a quarter million people (Klinkowitz x xi). As a prisoner of war, Vonnegutwas forced to participate as a corpse miner in the city s cleanup process. Upon his return from the Second World War, Vonnegut decided to write a book describing his traumatic war experiences. After twenty years of struggling with research, failing to recall personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although drastic presentations such as space and time travel potentially hinder the plausibility of the storyline and detach the reader from the text, it is this exact element in Slaughterhouse Five that returns the reader back into the story, bringing closer the relationship between the reader and Vonnegut himself. In this sense, this experimental form of narrative creates another Chrono Synclastic Infundibulum: a place in the novel where both the reader and the author coexist. With this new form of storytelling Vonnegut commits himself to a novel that could possibly fail. However he takes this risk in order to produce a novel that reflects his personal experiences more closely than if he had abided with conventional styles. By inserting the readers and himself into the novel, Vonnegut thus subjects the readers to his personal experiences more directly; the act of reading Slaughterhouse Five becomes a simulation of Vonnegut s past in Dresden. While Slaughterhouse Five was a novel intended to reflect Vonnegut s personal experiences in Dresden, the delivery of the storyline suggests that the novel is anything but an autobiography. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a pig after it has been killed (217). This is what can happen to someone when all signs of civilization, order and power disappear and have no more meaning to members of a group or society. In the writing of William Golding s Lord of the Flies (1954), the symbol of power and civilization is the conch. Once that is lost, all bets are off. One of these things is a beast that comes in the night but does not leave foot prints or any trail at any time. All the boys are very afraid of this beast and what it may do to them if it gets hold of them. As it turns out the beast is in the boys: You knew, didn t you? I m part of you? (172). This is the lord of the flies, also known as the beast, talking to Simon the first boy murdered. The beast is their unwillingness to maintain a civilization; it is their transformation into savages. • 10. Positive Impacts Of Peter The Great And Henry IV Of Russia Some monarchs left their countries in better condition than when they began their rule, while others left lasting damage. All of these monarchs used absolutism, but how they impacted their country varied. Certain rulers did things to improve their countries they ruled and made a positive impact on the people living there. For example, Henry IV made positive changes to France when he ruled, and Peter the Great positively impacted Russia. However, some rulers made bad choices and made their country worse. One example of this is Ivan IV of Russia, who is also known as Ivan the Terrible . Although they believed in different things and ruled in different ways, they all made important changes to the country they ruled. One monarch who made a positive impact on their country was Henry IV of France. One example of how he positively changed France was issuing the Edict of Nantes. The Edict of Nantes was a very important document at the time. It gave the Huguenots certain rights that they previously did not have. The Huguenots were French Calvinist Protestants, and many of the wealthy families were Huguenots. This originated from the Protestant Reformation and spreading to France. The Huguenots were allowed freedom of religion (limited), the right to hold office, and several other things. This change in France ended the idea of un roi, une loi, une foi , meaning one king, one law, one religion . Another way he made the country better was that he improved France s financial ... However on June 22nd 1941, Hitler began the largest military movement in history, the invasion of the Soviet Union. Even though Hitler had signed a Soviet Union Non Aggression pact he began the invasion. Hitler had always showed his hatred of the Jewish people in his book Mein Kampf. Although the invasion of the Soviet Unionwas the largest military movement in history, it led directly to the downfall of Germany. For the Germans, November was a critical month in their campaign, this was when the hard winter closed in, as the Germans expected a rapid collapse of the soviet union they had failed to prepare their troops for the harsh winter, eventually the German troops outran their supply lines, opening a thinly guarded flank opening the opportunity for a soviet counter attack. This caused the Germans plans to fall. ( US Holocaust Memorial Museum) After months of bloody fighting, the German army was exhausted, this and the soviet winter pared together to finally open the German to a soviet counter attack. Their plans for the union to fall had failed and the Germans plan for their military personnel to live off the land had collapsed. As they were advancing quickly they eventually outran their supply lines. Even though they had reach the outskirts of Moscow all that was needed was one more push from the soviets to put the Germans back on the back foot. As illustrated throughout Hamilton s Financial Plan, The American economy had traditionally rested upon large scale agricultural exports to pay for the import of British manufactured goods. Hamilton rightly thought that this dependence on expensive foreign goods kept the American economy at a limited level, especially when compared to the rapid growth of early industrialization in Great Britain. this shows hamilton was effective in forming great stability in the united states economically. It can happen to anyone of all ages, and in numerous ways. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among people that involves a real or perceived power imbalance that either repeats or has the potential to repeat, overtime (Bullying Definition). There are so many factors that tie into bullying such as, why the bully is actually bullying, why the bully chose that victim, or even the effects that occur while the bullying is taking place. Low self esteem is a common reason why someone would want to bully a person. Low self esteem is the lack of pride a person feels in themselves. Often times a bully feels like they are less than others and the only way for them to feel better about themselves is to try to bring others down. The novels can both be described as existentialist investigations. In the school of philosophy, existentialism seeks to investigate the relationship between individuals and the society, the meaning of life, and the unavoidable conflicts in interpersonal relationships among other inquisitions (Sleasman, 2014). Existentialism is evident in the two novels under review as the characters are treated as outsiders. Albert Camus The Stranger The concept of the outsider is demonstrated by the two lead characters namely Meursault and Tonio Kroeger. In The Stranger, Meursault is depicted as an outsider both in himself as well as the society as owing to his criminal tendencies as he battles to show emotions and link with realities regarding his life (Sleasman, 2014). Meursault is depicted as much disconnected to the current world and life either emotionally or socially. For instance, the opening scene shows how Meursault reacts to his mother s death. His lack of remorse and loss is both salient and borders on the pathological. During this period, the population of European origin was homogeneous, while the population of color combination was starkest. Jacobson explains that the 1790 law codified the assumptions of white privilege dating from the seventeenth century colonial charters, statutory law, and the Articles of Confederation. The idea of citizenship was weaved with whiteness and maleness before the Revolution, because citizen was someone who could help put down a slave rebellion or participate in Indian wars (p. 25). The only chattel slaves were of African descent, the only savages were the indigenous peoples, and most of the rest were British descended Christians. The 1790 law set a mandating precedent that even the uncivilized immigrants from Europe could automatically be regarded as whites, in contrast to the Indians and black slaves. Jacobson claims that the second phase of American nativism history from the 1840s to 1924 is mainly the history of a fundamental revision of whiteness (p. 68). The unitary concept of whiteness was shattered by the arrival of the Celts during the mid nineteenth century, and of Hebrews, Italians, Slavs, and others at the end of the century. Large numbers of Catholic German and Irish famine peasants raised the questions about white entitlement and the capacities for republican citizenship of newly immigrants who were attaining citizenship as white people. • 21. Tipping Point Analysis A Synthesis of Tipping Points The 21st century experiences countless fashions and trends as they come and go. There are many new shirts, new book genres, new flashy games etc. that are not uncommon news headlines. However, one must consider exactly how these trends spill into mainstream outlets in the first place. What causes an arbitrary fashion choice to become the epitome of a teenage girl s dream shoe closet? What causes a noxious and hazardous activity to become a full blown addiction? In Malcolm Gladwell s The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, he focuses on finding the answer to such questions. His work specifically proposes a theory on how mainstream epidemics gain initial traction and can simply tip and grow exponentially. A mainstream trend does not merely appear without warning most likely, the thought behind the trend had been around for a while. According to Gladwell, in order for a trend to grow amidst the influx of newer trends, three types of people must be working hard behind the scenes. In the chapter Case Study: Rumors, Sneakers, and the Power of Translation , Gladwell details the roles of Connectors, Mavens, and Salesmen, and how they unknowingly act together as a bridge between hipsters and mainstream media. The matter is complicated by the fact that the other Indian religious traditions of Hinduism and Jainism have their own theories of Karma and Reincarnation. It is in fact the Hindu versions that are better known in the West. The Buddhisttheory of karma and rebirth are quite distinct from their other Indian counterparts. The Buddhist theory of rebirth asserts that the fruits of some karma may manifest themselves in quot;future lives quot;. This brings us to the Buddhist theory of rebirth. Similar concepts occur in other religious systems e.g. the Platonic theory of the quot;pre existence of the soul quot; and the Hindu Jain theory of re incarnation. Such reincarnation theory involves the transmigration of a soul. In Buddhism, however, it is the unripened karmic acts outstanding at the death of an individual, which conditions a new birth. The last moment of consciousness too is also a conditioning factor, but it is the store of unripened karma generated by volitional acts (the sankhГўras) of previous existences which generates the destiny of the new individual. A newly born individual needs not only the genetic blueprint derived from the genes of the natural parents, but also a karmic blueprint derived from the volitional acts of a deceased person. The question has been posed whether the new individual is the same as the old individual whose karma it has inherited. The Buddha s answer to this question was somewhat enigmatic: quot;It is not the same, yet it is not another quot; (na ca so, na ca aГ±Г±o). Once the tape recorder was perfected (about 1950), and its potentialities fully realized, other electronic sound equipment (either already existing or suitably modified) could be assembled to form the first electronic music studio (99, Brindle). • 31. Why Homework Is Homework There are many students who realize that it is important to get good grades. But those students are also stressed, exhausted, and frustrated. How would you feel if you had to study for more than three hours a day just to earn a good grade? If you re a student, you probably fall into the category of those who do not have time to do things other than school. You may also feel as though homeworkdoesn t actually do anything. Most students get so busy with activities outside of school and just simply do not have time to do homework or study for a test for 5 hours. So ask yourself, is all of this necessary? Or can all of this unnecessary stress be avoided? Of course, nobody truly knows if homework is actually effective or not. It may be stressing student out for no good reason. Many students said they often do homework they see as pointless or mindless in order to keep their grades up. Homework should have a purpose and a benefit. It should be designed to actually teach kids instead of stress them out. It would be one thing to have as much homework that is assigned if students actually learned or benefited from it, but it doesn t do anything besides worry them. In addition, most kids do not have hardly any time to do anything other than school related things. All because society tells them that they should keep up their ... • 32. Wound Healing Essay The healing of wounds particularly chronic wounds is currently an important area of research. With more than 6.5 million patients in the United States dealing with chronic wounds, and $25 billion spent yearly on treatments (Sen et al, 2009), a better understanding of the wound healing process is beneficial to a wide range of patients dealing with wounds related to accidents, burns, and disease processes. It has been suggested that therapeutic strategies to promote wound healingmight focus on immune systemmodulation (Julier, 2017). The overall progression of a healing wound involves multiple types of cells, cellular processes, and growth factors (Strbo, 2014). Additionally, research has demonstrated that during wound healing, changes occur in the thymus (the organ in which T cell maturation occurs) revealing increases in thymus size, changes in morphology, and proliferation of a variety of immune cells within the medulla (Franchini Bertolotti 2014). Research Goals We propose to study the relationship between the thymus, T cells, and wound healing by performing larval thymectomy to generate T cell deficient tadpoles and frogs. Alternatively, many studies have demonstrated that mice missing the recombinase activating gene (RAG) are deficient in functional B and T lymphocytes (Thompson, 1992; Mombaerts et al, 1992; BelizГЎrio, 2009). Our study can be accomplished by the use of RAG knockout frogs, which we hope to obtain. Regardless of the method of obtaining T cell deficient tadpoles and frogs, wound healing will be evaluated by a combination of molecular and histological techniques. Our goal is to better understand the role T lymphocytes have in wound healing. Research Plan Generating tadpoles and frogs without a thymus Microscope guided electrocautery of the thymic lobes will be performed on early stage (Niewkoop Farber, NF, stages 42 48) tadpoles. The procedure will consist of first anesthetizing the tadpole, then using sharpened tungsten wires connected to an adapted power supply to pierce the thymic lobes and perform ... • 34. How Effective Teachers Become Partners With Parents Effective Teachers Become Partners with Parents Introduction The success of students depends on effective teaching and this efficient coaching is not required occasionally but every day in every classroom and discipline. An effective teacher not only influences the students academic interests but also has a great influence on his//her physical, societal, emotional, and behavioral good (Killion Hirsh, 2011). Teachers have a direct influence on how students learn, what they learn, how much they learn, and the ways they interact with one another and the world around them (Korkmaz, 2007). This effect on student achievement is understandable and apparent because the student achievement starts and finishes with the excellence, the instructional program, and guidance of the teacher (Korkmaz, 2007). However, the occurrence of effective teaching is only possible when every concerned member including parents /families, officials, community members, and educationalists contribute to the process of uninterrupted progress and student achievement. An effective teacher is familiar with the fact that in order to improve his/her teaching methods, effective professional learning is the only influential pathway (Killion Hirsh, 2011). One of the eight principles for effective teaching outlined in Literacy for the 21st century: A Balanced Approach is that effective teachers become partners with parents (Tompkins, Campbell Green, 2012). • 37. The Positivism Criminology s Theory Of Human Evolution The Positivism criminology developed in early XIX century together and was based on belief in science as a higher form of knowledge. The main features are determinisms, which assume that criminal behaviour can be conditioned by certain factors, not controlled by man. Second is individualism, specifically oriented on offender, not on criminal act itself. In contrary to classic theory, positivism believes that crimecommitted by human is not the result of decision making (free will), but combination of different factors, like biology, psychology and sociology. Positivist had significant part in changing Criminal Justice System, they encouraged validity of treatment and reformations programs as way of improvement. The major influence on biological positivism had English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809 82) and his publications On the Orgin of Species (1859), which enclose theory of human evolution. According to Darwin, humans come from animals and as them are subject to laws of nature rather than free will Burke, (2009, p.63). DNA became of importance to learn about the foundation in relation to genetic and hereditary. Without the contribution of Franklin, todays understanding of the DNAstructure would not exist. Rosalind Franklin died before the Nobel Peace Prize was given for the discovery of DNA. If she been alive, her receipt of the award would have been justifiable. Despite her death, Rosalind Franklin demonstrated the knowledge and research essential for understanding deoxyribonucleic acid and as a result should receive recognition in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize. Rosalind Franklin s work on DNA was crucial in discovering the composition of the human body as a whole. Her x ray photo revealed a double helix structure and she also discovered the A and B form of DNA. She worked through the adversity of being a female in a predominately male dominated realm and made remarkable findings that were eventually stolen. She adapted to a new lab with antiquated technology. Before this discovery, the structure of DNA was thought to be simple. Germany has the second largest immigrant population in Europe, United Kingdom is the largest. Immigrants have contributed greatly to the prosperity of the German economy. A representative study shows that foreign workers in Germany significantly contribute to the Bundesrepublik s prosperity (Lorenz, 2017). At any rate, the German economy is suffering from labour shortage and is urgently in need of immigrants to counter an ageing demographic . Germany needs its immigrants to be doing much more than making doner kebabs it needs them in its banks, its government offices, universities, and IT companies (Sampath, 2016). Based on data from the OECD and the German statistics office, the study shows that Germany s cultural diversity happens to be a major contributor to its economic success. Immigrants make up 9.6% of the population and one in five Germans has a migration background. The fact that Germany s immigrationrate is so high only tells half the story though (Lorenz, 2017). The number of foreign specialists in Germany s main industries is what really stresses the importance of immigration. Debussy clashed with the musical norms of his time due to his fascination with writing music for how it sounds and feels. Lesure writes, Ever since his years at the Conservatoire, Debussy had felt that he had more to learn from artists than from career obsessed musicians (5). Debussy composed from the ideas around him and this is heard in his composition of Clair de lune . Claude Debussy s Claire de lune is one of his most beloved and known piano works. Clair de lune is the third movement of Debussy s piano concerto, Suite Bergamasque, published in 1905 and offers a view into the complexity and originality of Claude Debussy. Clair de lune beautifully displays Debussy s fascination with nature and symbolist poetry. Debussy uses form and atmospheric phrasing to depict the melancholic and subdued beauty of nature. In 1903 Debussy wrote, Music is a mysterious form of mathematics whose elements are derived from the infinite. Music is the expression of the movement of the waters, the play of curves described by changing breezes. There is nothing more musical than a sunset. (Vallas 8) Debussy felt a strong connection with the arts and nature. What do we know about how young children engage with music? There has been quite a lot of research looking at the very early years. We know that babies can remember music from even before birth. My own study with the Child of Our Time group in 2001 showed that exposure to a particular piece of music before birth had long lasting effects, as the babies seemed to prefer listening to that music up to 15 months after birth. Other studies have explored the features of maternal singing, showing how this can make the baby feel calm. The Class II prescription amphetamine is intended to solely treat individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. The stimulant works to enhance concentration by stimulating the production of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain (Stolz 585). Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of Adderall on college campuses to enhance academic performance and cram for exams through the over stimulation of the brain, therefore creating super enhanced focus (Stolz 585), deeming it the smart drug. Due to the fact that several students are not truly diagnosed with ADHD, a majority of this use on campuses is illegal; this has become a growing problem affecting the health of students and entailing issues of competiveness and fairness (Jacobs 1). In recent years, the abuse of Adderall has circulated hundreds of college campuses and even secondary schools. Unfortunately, students are being deceived by the stimulant drug s valuable qualities, masking the serious, detrimental effects that the drug induces. Kuhn, Schwanenflugel and Meisinger (2010) argue that reading fluency should not only focus on automatic word recognition as a way to assess the ability of a learner (p. 231).
