Commuter Trains In The 1800 s
Trains developed in the early 1800 s. Because of railroads, commuter trains became an important of
the american history. Commuter train is also known as suburban train. Commuter trains help
transport people from places to places. Many people use the commuter trains in their everyday live.
It also created a change in the industry, and allowed humans to expand. The train became a way
where people transportgoods and resources in matter of days instead of months. As centuries goes
on and with the advancement in technology, commuter trains have evolved into more efficient and
significant part of people s live.
The first trains were called locomotives. It was a steam engine train created by Matthew Murray. It
is a simple and slow train, but still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of right now, scientists are coming up new advance projects to power, and will help add
intelligence to the transportation system. The advancement will help decrease carbon dioxide
emissions, traffic delays, and the cost. This will also make commuting and travel more efficient.
The cost will be lower due to not building railroad tracks. The traffic will decrease due to the
various sensors to guide the trains on the road. It will make commuting and travel more efficient
because the units can detach and going different directions. Another resource scientist might use is
magnetic levitation(maglev). To create a maglev at high speeds of travel, the train needs to run off
of electro magnetism. Also the train need a strong enough force and large enough electrical power

What Sets The Successful Companies Apart From The...
PEWAUKEE SCHOOL DISTRICT (PSD). Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Recipient
2013 (Education Category) 1. What sets the successful companies apart from the unsuccessful
companies? Answer: Three main characteristics of the winner have succeeded as a successful
company they are: i. They mainly concentrate on value rather putting their thoughts on long term
goals, that means they always concentrate in reduction of the costs in a strategic context and with a
reasonable spotlight on their core. ii. They misuse opportunities one of a kind to the downturn,
which can mean anything from utilizing misfortune to increase new clients to squeezing forward
with advancement. iii. They act quickly, with a spryness that allows them to keep pace with, or
development of, speedy changes in the business environment. Successful companies always put
their eye on the growth of the organization and they will try to keep the customers as they don t
need to lose their valuable customers. So they will move on from their comfort zones and thrive
hard towards their growth in the competitive world. They always show their commitment towards
the innovation that helps in being a part of the successful company. (Berman, 2009). 2. Are the
successful companies more agile in the marketplace? Answer: Yes, successful companies are agile
in the markets because being agile is to making themselves adaptable, managing, and trying to keep
them up to the mark towards the customer s needs and the technology.

The Freedom Of Bear Arms
One major issue in the United States today is the freedom to bear arms. There are split beliefs on
this issue. Some people are against people being permitted to have a firearm because guns kill
people. Other people are for being permitted to have a firearm because guns do not kill people on
their own. It is the person behind the gun pulling the trigger that kills a person. In this paper, I will
discuss both sides of this huge, nationwide issue.
The founding fathers, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas
Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington, were the men that were the first to discuss
about this resolution. Here are a select few of their thoughts on gun control, A free people ought to
be armed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that we citizens should be permitted to hold a firearm and it shall not be taken or
confiscated from us.
Aaron Weiss, a combat veteran of Iraq, now a law enforcement officer, had some strong words to
say about the Safe Act and about people and their rights. He states, I gave up a lot for this
country, including my youth, and better men then me gave up a whole lot more so that all of
you, myself included, can enjoy the rights that are guaranteed to us in our Constitution and Bill
of Rights. We didn t go through all of that to come back and watch you surrender what we fought
for happen based off of the demented acts of two mad men. He is pretty much stating that our
rights and freedom should not be taken away just because of stupid people. Aaron is a strong
supporter of being aloud to have a firearm. For example, what would happen if you and your
family were at home, someone broke into your house, they had a gun, and you did not? It would
be a lot easier for the burglar to get away because he would not be scared of you as much. Now
let us say you do have a gun. That changes everything because either the burglar would be more
scared of you and would try to hurry up and escape, or if he was a real psychopath, he might try to
shoot at you and your family.
People should have the right to carry a firearm everywhere they go, as long as they have a permit
with them. My English teacher, Mr.

Native Americans In The 19th Century
9. In the late 19th century, the United States population tripled from the 1850s. The arrival of 16.2
million immigrants fueled this growth. However, beginning in the 1890s, most European
immigrants, who were the largest group immigrating, started to have different origins from Europe.
Now they were coming from Southern and Eastern Europe. When they came to the cities, such as
New York City, which was their port of arrival, they formed ethnic communities because they did
not share the same values as the original, Protestant Americans or immigrants before them. Almost
all immigrants located themselves in cities, nevertheless, because they came to America to find the
American Dream, which was believed to be very true and plausible. The cities... Show more content

The poor and newly arrived immigrants faced many issues when in the cities that they called
homes. In the tenements, usually in the worst parts of cities such as New York and Chicago, the
poor lived in extremely cramped, unsanitary, and dangerous conditions. At work, the poor faced
monotonous jobs, maybe turning a bolt, over and over again all day long. And from this job
their pay was no more than around $1 $3 a day. Obviously, something had to be done to improve
these conditions, as the government was not regulating or supporting the poor, especially the
immigrants who received little to no help in the country after they paid their entry tax to the
government. There were two groups interested in this subject with almost opposing views: the
social reformers and the business leaders. The business leaders responded to the poverty in a
manner inspire their personal beliefs. As seen by Andrew Carnegie, in his article, The Gospel of
Wealth, the business leaders believed themselves to be superior humans with more able bodies
and brains. They were Social Darwinists, who believed the poor were poor because they were
inferior. Some leaders did nothing and purely made choices that benefitted the company over the
employees. However, others, such as Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Melon, poured their own
money into projects that would help the mind and make the poor happier, such as cultural or
educational venues such as Carnegie Hall or Carnegie Mellon University. On the other hand, the

The Method Of Recruiting Has Changed Over Time
The method of recruiting has significantly changed over time. Today, there is less reading through
stacks of resumes and more interacting with potential employees on a casual and formal basis. The
method of job recruiting can include many different channels and practices. These methods can
consist of practices such as attending job fairs, promoting from within, online and college
recruiting, and referrals. Most recruiting methods are face to face interactions between the
employer and potential employee. This gives the employers a chance to see the candidate in person,
how they present themselves, and what they can bring to their company. Although there are many
different methods of recruiting, these practices can be separated into... Show more content on

Another disadvantage is that if you promote from within, you have to fill the position of the
person you promoted, so in a sense you are back to square one (Lussier and Hendon, 172).
Although this route may seem easier, cheaper, and less time consuming, it may not be the most
ideal route to take. On the other hand, you have external recruiting which is the process of
engaging individuals from the labor market outside of the firm to apply for a job (Lussier and
Hendon, 172). Some examples of external recruiting would be using advertisements in
newspapers, online job websites, career fairs, and referrals from current employees that would
help fulfill any open positions (Applegate). If a company is going to promote themselves at a
career fair it is important that they prepare in advance. The company must advertise! As obvious
as this may seem, some companies do not advertise because they mainly rely on word of mouth.
Some good advertising techniques would be to post flyers around local campuses, add a section
in the newspaper, advertise on the radio, and use social media platforms. The company could also
work with universities to send out an email blast to all of the students letting them know about the
career fair so that it draws more potential employees in ( Effective Career Fair Recruiting ). Being
a student at Lewis University, lately I have been seeing signs around campus about a career

How Did West African Art Influence Latin American Culture
Culture is changing because of the arts in different regions of the world. African art is visual and
includes different types such as sculptures, painting, and pottery. Latin American art is traditionally
developed in Mesoamerica, Central America, and South America. European art took a turn from
inspiration because of the Roman Greek Empire. Art and Cultureis changing throughout the world
all the time. African Art styles and techniques are so vast and diverse that it is difficult to
describe them all as a whole. Types and techniques of African art are also subject to specific
regional influences found throughout the continent (Picton). For instance, the West African region
includes Sudan, the Guinea Coast, and Nigeria. The West African region produces a lot of
sculptural art while also being heavily influenced by the presence of Islam, creating a strict
standard of what is acceptable art, This is an example of how artistic styles are influenced by
religion, tribes, cities, economics, and society. Providing a picture on how art fits into a sculpts...

changes that then lead Latin America to what was called the Independence movement during the

American artists have often superficially accepted styles from Europe and the United States,

Tools Used for Measuring Temperature
Task 1:
For this question, I m going to discus about three measurements that I searched about which is used
for measuring the temperature. Vapor pressure measure thermometer was the first one I choose. I
hadn t known there was an instrument that could measure the temperature depending on the
pressure. The second instrument is Liquid in Glass thermometer. And finally, the third instrument is
infrared Pyrometer. I will provide figures and some information about these thermometers, and also
the advantage and disadvantage.
Vapor PressureThermometer
A vapor pressure thermometer is consists of: a bulb, a pressure sensor, long tube connects the bulb
to the pressure sensor, and the valve. Figure 1: vapor pressure thermometer: 1) bulb containing two
phases of a substance in thermal equilibrium, 2) pressure sensor, 3) connecting tube to connect the
bulb with the sensor, 4) filling system.1
Figure 2: diagram for a pure substance. t triple point and C critical point.1
Vapor pressure thermometers are founded on the saturated vapor pressure in a two phase system.
The behavior of a liquid vapor system in equilibrium is described in the tC curve. Beside the curve
for a pure substance, the pressure differs on the temperature and not on the quantity of substance
vaporized. The temperature range related with vaporization is limited to temperatures between the
critical point and the triple point of the substance. The range is even further reduced if the extreme

The Siege Of Jerusalem By Ezekiel
Ludicrous. Torturous. Appalling. The unthinkable prophetic acts that God commanded for Ezekiel
to perform throughout his ministry were meant to be sensational scenes that demonstrated what
was to come for the Israelites. Ezekiel, illustrating the siege of Jerusalem was one of the first
prophetic acts God required Ezekiel to complete. God commanded Ezekiel to create a miniature
version of an invading army camped around Jerusalemand then place an iron plate between
himself and Jerusalem. Ezekiel, while lying on the left side of his body for three hundred ninety
days, represented the number of years that Israel was punished, and then lying on his right side
for forty days, represented the number of years that Judah was punished. Ezekiel had to portion
out water and grain cake, which he was supposed to cook on human manure to demonstrate the
unclean bread that Israel would soon eat, but Ezekiel refused as cooking on human manure
disobeyed God s dietary laws. Therefore, God compromised with Ezekiel and allowed him to
prepare the food on animal manure instead. Ezekiel, portraying the siege of Jerusalemwas just the
beginning of what God required Ezekiel to do in order to illustrate the suffering that the Israelites
were about to experience due to their unfaithfulness. Not only did God use Ezekiel to perform
extraordinary prophetic acts in order to get His message across to the Israelites, but God also
allowed for Ezekiel to have visions that reached beyond history and

The Film Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock is widely considered one of the most essential directors of all time and has
undeniably revolutionized the cinematic art form and horror genre movement. A key ingredient
to his productions is the psychoanalysis of the movie s villains and the deceivery at comes with
deep psychosis. These elements are what have taken Hitchcock from a good director to a legend.
Hitchcock layers his movies in ways in which every time one watches his films they can pick up
on a new detail that deepens the meaning and effects of the storyline. This is exactly what he does
in his 1960 film, Psycho. By layering Freudian psychoanalysis, creating a twist ending and
suspense, and giving the villain of the story, Norman Bates, a deeply rich background story,
Hitchcock creates phenomenon in the audience arguably scarier, then Norman s murders.
Through this use the psychoanalysis and backstory, the audience also feels sympathy for
Norman. This duality is what makes Hitchcock a wonderful artist and Psycho, a piece of art. The
first way in which Hitchcock gets his audience to feel sorry for Norman is his first conversation
with Marion Crane. When the audience first sees Norman greeting Marion they see a very fresh
faced boy who looks very sheltered and innocent. This is one of Hitchcock s first uses the
Freudian analysis. Freud believed that all human desire could be broken down into one primitive
binary code: sex and aggression, also construed as love and death. He says the driving

Factory Working Conditions In Bangladesh Does it take a catastrophic event for the factories in
Bangladesh to become know for the harsh working conditions? Most Americans don t understand,
nor do Americans see how the factories and sweatshop workers are affected by the unsafe
environments, the illegal use of children, and the minimal pay with no compensation. Americans
take for granted the pay received, and the type of working conditions that are set in order to for the
business to operate. Child labor laws in Bangladesh are very few in number, and the few that are set
in place don t completely protect the underage children working. Working in such a hazardous
environmentthe workers should be compensated in either pay or benefits. The working
environments and conditions in Bangladesh are not only harsh, but unsafe, and the workers are
under compensated for the conditions.
Factories in Bangladesh have some of the worst working environments for workers to operate in.
There is no comparison between American factories, and factories in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh
alone some of the most catastrophic work hazards happen in the factories. In

The Movie The Joey Sat On The Tile Right
The Joey sat on the tile right by the warmth of the fire. He actually had a much longer history
with Genie, so he had been invited to the gathering and as it seemed he must have been on the
guest list expecting to arrive late. He had a subtlety macabre upbeat demeanor, with a sharp whit
that snapped stronger than the crackle from the fireplace. He demonstrated his problem solving
skills as he offered ideas and suggestions about the tire on the car while committing himself to
helping them once again in the Am. To my eye, The Joey looked like a snowboarder warming up

eyes until the whole picture is complete and clear in front of me. My investigation revealed his

the times I bundled up for the cool and did not have the energy left to put on socks or wasn t
able to find any clean. I did not resist the urge to comment. The Joey was quick and quick witted.
He explained that he was dressed for winter everywhere else, so why would his feet be cold. I
have said this to others before. I was officially intrigued. There was a warm sensation in my

Essay Shakespeare s Sonnet 18
During the Renaissance period, most poets were writing love poems about their lovers/mistresses.
The poets of this time often compared love to high, unrealistic, and unattainable beauty.
Shakespeare, in his sonnet 18, continues the tradition of his time by comparing the speakers love
/mistress to the summer time of the year. It is during this time of the year that the flowers and the
nature that surround them are at there peak for beauty. The theme of the poem is to show the
speakers true interpretation of beauty. Beauties worst enemy is time and although beauty might
fade it can still live on through a person s memory or words of a poem. The speaker realizes that
beauty, like the subject of the poem, will remain perfect not in the... Show more content on

Shakespeare uses two powerful metaphors in line five and in line six to compare the summer s
imperfections to the perfection of the beloved. In line five he uses a metaphor Sometime too hot
the eye of heaven shines to describe that in the summer the sun gets to hot and this is yet another
imperfection of a summer day which the beloved is superior to. Although some may compare
there beloveds eyes with the glow or beauty of the eye of heaven here the speaker has chosen to
claim the opposite saying that the sun is inferior to his beloved in that her eyes are more
beautiful. In line six of the poem the idea of the sun being imperfect is further enhanced by phrase
gold complexion dimmed this is implying that the sun is imperfect in that it is not always hot
enough. Here the speaker implies that the beloved is flawless in that her complexion is never
changed, remaining gold like. Nature that surrounds us is beautiful, the trees, ocean, and the wild
life, and although the speaker makes a point to disfigure the view of nature the intention of the
poet is to reinforce the beauty of the beloved. In line nine thy eternal summer shall not fade is an
allusion to the beloved staying young and beautiful for eternity. This line is referring to the season
changing from summer to winter, this means that the beauty is temporary and fades over a short
period of time. The beloved on the other hand is

Conflict Theory Explicates Gregarious Life
Conflict theory is in essence an intricate system with imbalance, which results in conflict that can
leave to gregarious change. It explicates gregarious life through understanding convivial processes
as the result of the constant struggle between groups. In society there are inhibited resources, such
as potency, wealth, edification, and prestige, as a result people vie for those resources for survival
and to amend their position in society. As verbalized by McQueeney (2011) according to conflict
theory, society is: A struggle for ascendance among competing convivial groups (classes, genders,
races, religions, etc.). When conflict theorists visually examine society, they optically discern the
convivial ascendance of subordinate groups through

2012 was a poor year for United airlines and one again its ROE finished in the negatives with

The Development Of The Kidneys
The embryological development of the kidneys occurs in three successive phases: the pronephros,
the mesonephros, and the metanephros. Because of the nature in this development, there are many
forms of congenital abnormalities associated with the kidneys. Because of their close
developmental association, there is also a complex relationship between the reproductive system
and the urinary system. During the pronephros phase in foetal development, by day 22, the
intermediate mesoderm (identified lateral to the paraxial mesoderm) gives rise to nephrotomes
(nephric vesicles) in the cervical region via the transformation of epithelial cells. The collection
of the nephrotomes is referred to as the pronephros and will proceed to develop in a cephalo
caudal direction. However, the pronephros is non functional and will atrophy within a few days.
By day 23, the next phase of epithelial cells are induced to develop (lateral to the somite) by the
pronephric duct as it elongates caudally into the thoracic region. The new epithelial tubules
(mesonephric tubules) continue to receive a blood supply from capillary tufts branched from the
dorsal aorta. The mesonephric tubules envelope the capillary tuft and are analogous to Bowman s
capsules and glomerulus, respectively. These tubules are now functioning for a short period of time
to filtrate the blood into the continuation of the pronephric duct, now known as the mesonephric
duct or Wolffian duct. Between 24 and 26 days, the mesonephric

life of an African American family who live in a small house and struggle financially. It is a life
that has been lived by many throughout in history. Through the use of symbolism, Walker
interprets the American Dream as unique to each individual and the possibility to lose it in the
chaos of life. Immediately, the reader is introduced to a familywho doesn t live at the top of the
socioeconomic pyramid. A family who, although live comfortably compared to many, still maintain
the ideals of which they came from. Maggie and Mama live... Show more content on

Collectively, these will lead to more opportunities for prosperity and success. These ideals are
rooted from the Declaration of Independence, which states that, All men are created equal with the
right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. It is clear to see that in Everyday Use, siblings
of the same family have completely opposite outcomes in life. As Dee chooses to live a different
life of that which she was brought into, and Maggie s choosing the path of inheritance, culture, and
tradition. In the eyes of the world, it would seem that Dee is living the American Dream ; however,
in the eyes of her family, Maggie is the one living the dream. She is true to their culture and

family has to pass on. She may not be intelligent in the sense of learning, but Maggie has the ability

The Cupbearer
The Enigma of the Cupbearer is a short video in which the narrator introduces viewers to the
Cycladic figurine Cup Bearer. It is a rare figure type, and the only intact seated Cup bearer from
Cycladic art. The figure is thought to be male because it is in action, and females were often
shown standing with their arms crossed over their chests. In the Cup Bearer the male is made of
marble, and is sitting on a stool made from the same piece of marble. He is holding a cup in his
right hand, and is poised as though getting ready to take a drink, make a toast, or offer a libation to
the gods. The meaning of this figurine, and others from this time, is unclear, but it is historically
important since it marks an artistic milestone. According

The Financial Crisis Is Considered By Many People As One...
Introduction to Business Assignment 1 Travis J. Sisson 01 Oct 2016 The 2008 Financial Crisis
is considered by many people as one of the worst recession since the Great Depression that
occurred from 1929 1939. The loss for that week was an astounding $30 billion. This was ten
times more than the annual federal budget and far more than the U.S. had spent in WWI (30B
dollars would be equivalent to $377,587,032,770.41 today). Additionally after posing a huge
effect on the U.S economy, the financial crisis expanded to Europe and the rest of the world. It
brought down governments, wiped out retirement accounts, ruined economies and left a bad taste
of Wall Street in the mouths of generations. These collapses caused a global scale of reform
resulting in the intervention of governments by changing and expanding the monetary and fiscal
policy or giving bailout that were needed in order to eliminate and control enormous effects of the
financial crisis. The financial crisis of 2008, commonly referred to as The Great Recession and the
Global Financial Crisis of 2008 , began with the downfall in the housing market in the United
States. There were many factors that played into the housing bubble to finally burst. Some of these
factors included: subprime loans, overall housing prices that peaked in 2005 2006 (and which are
starting to peak again today), government policy and regulation (or lack thereof), and faulty
mortgages that took advantage of unsuspecting home owners. In

Exodus Identity Analysis
Exodus created an identity for the Israelites through the form of Moses, which also defined the
main relationship with their God. Through Moses, the Israelite people were eventually granted
access to leave their bonds in Egypt and begin the journey to their promised land. However, God s
covenant with the Israelitesis extremely conditional. No other forces may be worshipped other than
the true God, and everyone must follow the Ten Commandments, as well as trusting in Mosesand
his words. Those who did not follow directions were usually treated to a plague, widely seen
throughout Exodus 7 12, when the Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go during God s words via
Moses. This continued on through the entire passage to the promised land.

Percy Bysshe Shelley s Poem In Lift Not The Painted Veil
Lift not the painted veil , an 1818 sonnet by the British Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley,
depicts a person who lifts the veil that covers the world, in order to find love. This act, however,
plunges him into a state of disorientation and forlornness, because it does not lead him to discover
truth or love. Therefore, the sonnet s first line is admonitory and even forbids us to lift the veil. By
focussing on the connotatively contrasting use of metaphors, this essay aims at demonstrating how
Percy Bysshe Shelleys sonnet Lift not the painted veil , despite its deceptive, seemingly
admonitory first line, encourages the individual to defy religion and to adopt atheism. In order to
describe the world, the lyrical subject uses dark and negative metaphors. He equates the world of

[italics mine] (6) The fact that Shelley compares religion, presumably Christianity, to a deceptive
veil substantially influences the interpretation of this sonnet, because the veil is then not only a
symbol for the world, but also functions as a metaphor for religion, implying that, like the veil, it
conceals truths and clouds people s minds. The fact that line 14 mentions a preacher who is unable
to find truth corroborates the assertion that religion is deceptive. Furthermore, as demonstrated in
the above, the veil literally and figuratively shrouds the world and its inhabitants in obscurity. As a
result, religion also becomes associated with darkness and pessimism, intimating that it has a
depressing effect on the world. Briefly, the negatively connotated metaphors with which life, or
more precisely religion, is described in the sonnet suggest a dissenting attitude with regard to
religion, by relating it to

Descriptive Analysis Of The Rose Garden
The painting was a lie.
A bright, pretty lie, bursting with pale pink blooms and fat beams of sunshine.
I d begun it yesterday, an idle study of the rose garden lurking beyond the open windows of the
studio. Through the tangle of thorns and satiny leaves, the brighter green of the hills rolled away
into the distance.
Incessant, unrelenting spring.
If I d painted this glimpse into the court the way my gut had urged me, it would have been flesh
shredding thorns, flowers that choked off the sunlight for any plants smaller than them, and rolling
hills stained red.
But each brushstroke on the wide canvas was calculated; each dab and swirl of blending colors
meant to portray not just idyllic spring, but a sunny disposition as well. Not too ... Show more

When it was nothing but smoke and ash, I invited in a wind that swept them from my palms and out
the open windows.
For good measure, I summoned a breeze from the garden to snake through the room, wiping away
any lingering tendril of smoke, filling it with the musty, suffocating smell of roses.
Perhaps when my task here was done, I d burn this manor to the ground, too. Starting with those
roses.
Two approaching presences tapped against the back of my mind, and I snatched up another brush,
dipping it in the closest swirl of paint, and lowered the invisible, dark snares I d erected around
this room to alert me of any visitors.
I was working on the way the sunlight illuminated the delicate veins in a rose petal, trying not to
think of how I d once seen it do the same to Illyrian wings, when the doors opened.
I made a good show of appearing lost in my work, hunching my shoulders a bit, angling my head.
And made an even better show of slowly looking over my shoulder, as if the struggle to part myself
from the painting was a true effort.
But the battle was the smile I forced to my mouth. To my eyes the real tell of a smile s genuine
nature. I d practiced in the mirror. Over and over.
So my eyes easily crinkled as I gave a subdued yet happy smile to Tamlin.
To Lucien.
Sorry to interrupt, Tamlin said, scanning my face for any sign of the shadows I remembered to
occasionally fall prey to, the ones I wielded to keep him at bay

Role Of Of The Jain Religion

RLST:1620003 Final Paper
The Role of Women in the Jain Religion
The Jain tradition was born in India, a small but powerful religion that grew up alongside
Buddhism and Hinduism. Like the other religions of India, Jainism teaches that when the body
dies, the soul (known to the Jain as a jiva) is reincarnated. Eventually, through living religious lives,
the soul will reach realization, the end of the process of death and rebirth. In his piece
Fundamentals of Jainism, Champat Rai Jain explains that, within the Jain tradition, the path of
salvation consists in Right Belief, Right Knowledge and Right Conduct, called the three Jewels (
Jain, 7.) One must know and understand the Jain tradition, believe what it is saying, and act in
accordance with those beliefs. In order to conduct his or herself properly, a person of the Jain
tradition must follow five vows. The most central statute of the Jain religion is the vow of Ahimsa,
which means non injury. The religion places great emphasis on the 4 other vows as well, Satya
(speaking only the truth) Asteya (taking only what is given,) Brahmacharya (chastity) and
Aparigraha (non possession.) (Kinsey, lecture 3/7.) The Jain religion, while similar in some ways to
Hinduism and Buddhism, is in many ways very unique. The respect that Jainism holds for all life is
entirely it s own. In his writing on Jainism, The Jain Tradition, Vasudha Narayana explains the
importance of the Jain saying Ahimsa

Katrina Cycle Of Poverty
Paycheck to Paycheck details the daily life of Katrina who lives, like many more
American women than one might think, in poverty. The social context of her situation is all too
common and overlooked as merely poverty, people do not understand the gendered implications.
Katrina finds herself in poverty due to her ex husband s addiction problem and after their
separation things are not looking up. She even states that all of the income went to his addiction,
prior. Single motherhood is anything but easy for Katrina and this is proven by the menagerie of
burdens she must bear on the daily in order to make a good life for her kids while maintaining her
health as best as she can.

Seven Steps to Solving the Housing Crisis
The crisis that America has found herself in, to be completely blunt and honest, all revolves around
stupidity and bad choices. American citizens that had absolutely no business even thinking of
buying a house flooded the market and were encouraged by greedy bankers that were out to make a
profit, without thinking of the consequences or morals involved. Now the governmenthas over
stepped their boundaries and are spending this country into such deep debt, which makes one think
that that light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train with no hope of slowing down, let
alone stopping. The solution to this economic crisis is outlined in seven easy baby steps: 1.
America needs to create a small emergency fund (at least a million... Show more content on

themselves educated, which would make us all winners, and broke people would stop buying
houses that they can t afford. If everyone bought houses that they could afford then there would
be no more foreclosures; especially if everyone had an emergency fund to give them an alternative
if something happened. If businesses weren t built on debt, especially sole proprietorships, then
businesses wouldn t have to lay a bunch of people off or cut down productivity. America needs to
save to help take care of her people and Americans need to take care of themselves so that we all
win in the end.
Lastly, America needs to build a bunch of wealth and give a bunch of it away. This concept is
for the government and her people because when one gives and it becomes a habit, that person is
forever changed. It reminds them that it s not all about them. It s not about getting a bunch of
stuff that they can t afford to impress people that they don t even like. It s about taking care of

Essay on Farley Mowat s Walk Well, My Brother
In the short story Walk Well, My Brother the author, Farley Mowat, develops the idea that a
significant experience can lead to a change in how one individual views another individual. The
story shows us how a person can learn from another person that is very different from them and be
moved by their selflessness into becoming a better person. It also shows us how important it is for
people not to judge others for superficial reasons.
An individual can learn a lot from people that are very different from them. I feel that this story
was written to illustrate that point. The story tells us about a man named Charlie Lavery who was
twenty six years old and believed that he was capable of taking care of himself no matter what the

In this story, Konola never once acts in a selfish manner towards Charles. She was very ill with
tuberculosis and she still followed Charles across the arctic in order to save his life, even after he
had left her to die. Charles began to respect this woman and he begins to realize that he was
wrong. We know this when Charles is questioning himself; Why had Konola not stayed in the
relative safety of the aircraft or else traveled north to seek her own people? What had impelled
her... to rescue a man of another race who had abandoned her? I think that this is a very
important line, because it shows how Charles still feels a separation from her because of race.
He cannot see how she would follow a man of another race . Konola does not see this as
important, and that is why she feels compelled to save him. He is very moved by her acts of
kindness. She took care of him and nursed him back to health even though she herself was very
ill. This amazed Charles and changed him from a greedy person to a more giving one. It changed
his outlook on the native people and on how he treated others. In the end he begins to care for
Konola because she is too ill to take care of herself and this is proof that he had changed because of
their situation and the things that she had done for him.
The story shows us that it is important not to judge others superficially

Using Hierarchical Linear Modeling Methods
As research across all fields and topics evolve, techniques on how to improve research endeavors,
such as statistical modeling techniques, become important to utilize. Hierarchical linear modeling,
similarly known as multilevel modeling, has been a statistical approach that has gained attention
and improved the analysis and interpretation of research data (Osborne, 2000). Hierarchical linear
modelingis a regression based statistical analysis that considers the hierarchical (i.e., multiple levels;
nested) nature of variables within a dataset. Hierarchical data is data that has an organizational
structure consisting of units of groups (i.e., levels) that are clustered under a larger group.
Therefore, the variables within a dataset may have mediating effects and such effects can only be
explored when taking into account the clustering of groups in the data.
Prior to the wide spread use of hierarchical linear analyses, data that was structured hierarchically in
nature was not analyzed appropriately due to the neglect of considering the correlated, underlying
relationships among independent and dependent variables. Considering the correlated parameters
of a proposed relationship within a dataset is of importance because the relating parameters would
indicate that the variables are not independent. Thus, violating the assumption of independence and
increasing the likelihood to make a Type 1 error, in addition to resulting in biased standard errors
and hypothesis tests.

In this paper, I will explain the roles and importance of the Business cycle Dating committee of the
National Bureau of Economic Research. I will also explain how the NBER defines and dates
recessions. Finally I will explain the important aspects and effects of the last recession.
The Business Cycle is ...the ups and downs in economic activity, defined in terms of periods of
expansion or recession (Dr. Econ). Expansion is the period in which employment, production, sales
and income increase. Likewise, the contrasting contraction is when the actions above decrease. In
order to keep track of the fluctuations of the US s business cycles troughs and peaks, the National
Bureau of Economic Research was created. The NBER is comprised of a group of economic
researchers currently led by president James Poterba. The members are usually specialized in the
field of business cycle research, and are chosen by the president. The NBER was founded in 1920
as a private non profit ...non partisan organization dedicated to conducting economic research and
to disseminating research findings among academics, public policy makers, and business
professionals. (http://www.nber.org/info.html). The NBER dating committee was formed in 1978,
and plays an important role in the US as an examiner of broad measures of economic activity, and
the most reliable source of the beginning and end of recessions in the U.S. This is accomplished by
gathering as much data on a given period of economic activity.

Love in Lolita
Some critics read Vladimir Nabokov s Lolita as a story of Humbert s unrequited love for the title
character; others consider it a record of the rant ings of a mad pedophile, with, as Humbert himself
admits, a fancy prose style. Nabokov s innovative construction, in fact, highlights both of these
aspects as it reinforces and helps develop the novels main theme: the relationship between art and
experience. By allowing Humbert to narrate the details of his life with Lolita, Nabokov illustrates
the difficulties inherent in an attempt to order experience through art. As he tries to project an ideal
vision of his relationship with Lolita, Humbert manipulates readers responses to him in order to
gain sympathy and to effect a suspension of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

gleaming teeth at the small globe suspended so high in the zenith of the powerful and graceful
cosmos she had created for the express purpose of falling upon it with a clan resounding crack of
her golden whip.
Humbert illustrates the depths of his feeling for her when he admits that in his assessment of their

musk and the mud, through the dirt and the death, Oh God, oh God And what is most singular is
that she, this Lolita, my Lolita, has individualized the writer s ancient lust, so that above and over

an artful modulation of lyricism and jocularity quickly seduces the reader into something very like

Understanding the Modern State of Christianity as...
To understand the modern state of Christianity as evangelicals, it is necessary to realize that there
have been important changes to the point in which we are today (Fahrsh, 2006). Several doubts
among believers existed and this resulted in the existence of many movements. Some of these
movements include liberalism, neo orthodoxy and evangelical movement.
Theological movements
To begin with liberalism movement, it was more common in the 19th and 20th centuries. As the
term liberal implies the willingness that was there to explain and interpret the scripture according to
the current day philosophic perspectives (Wilbur, 2006). This involved the use of scientific
assumptions as they tried to achieve a better understanding and he points they see as appropriate
and important. This was done without the need to know whether the agreed terms was in
considerations of the previously known concepts and the correct doctrine. Much significance was
put across as interpreted scientifically in the text and on morality (Wilbur, 2006).
Second is the neo orthodox movement, it was more prominent and influential in the 20th century. It
is a theological movement that was common in Europe and America and was mainly known as
crisis or dialectical theology. It was led by a number of most influential theologians of that time,
including Emil Brunner, Reinhold Niebuhr, Nikolay Berdyayev and Paul Tillich (Ahlstrom, 2009).
They were mainly called neo orthodox since they spoke the traditional or the

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Jv and Ws

a wholly owned subsidiary (WOS) instead of a joint venture (JV). There are numerous studies
and research papers done on which entry mode is best in different situations, but there is no
simple task deciding which is the best unless one can see into the future. JV and WOS are two
completely different entry modes with their distinct down and upsides. Entering a new market

If both companies in the partnership feel it is a win win situation the chance for success is
bigger, and if they fail the cost will not be as devastating, the amount of risk is at a minimum
compared to a WOS (Morschet, Schramm Klein, Zentes, 2010). 2.4 The disadvantages of JVs
Being partners is not always easy, and it takes time and a lot of effort to build up a strong
relationship between two companies. There are many uncertainties around partnerships, the partner
can have a hidden agenda and have an opportunistic behavior (Aswathappa, 2010). The goal or
objective for the partnership can be unclear and makes it difficult to know when they have
succeeded. If there is an unbalance in the level of investment, effort or expertise the other partner
can feel they are not getting what they expected. Many get caught up in endless conflicts, and often
these issues are based on cultural differences. Most of these problems are management issues, but
sometimes the company s management can agree on every point but the employers do not get
enough information (businesslink.gov.uk). Without thorough research and effective communication

Being A Cheerleader
My most memorable school experience, revolves around the extracurricular of being a
cheerleader. Being able to have the opportunity to thrive in school spirit and to be able to build
lifelong friendships has allowed me to cherish my high school experience. Even though being a
cheerleader consists of many responsibilities and events; my most favored school experience is
being a part of the schools organized pep rallies. Pep rallies are memorable to me because it is a
couple times out of the school year that each student comes together to support and encourage our
own fellow students. By encouraging students of all ages to be apart of this experience is
important to me, because seeing each student happy in sight of their school is inspiring.

Women In Euripides Greek Tragedy, Hippolytus
In Euripides Greek Tragedy, Hippolytus, he tells the familiar myth of a young man whose
stepmother falls in love with him. The female characters of Euripides are often nuanced with
dualistic characterizations. While Euripides may present Phaedra as noble for fighting her lustful
urges, he ultimately exposes her to the same petty nature as the very goddesses who inflict these
desires on her. All of the women in Hippolytusare viewed Eve like figures who lead men astray,
despite their intentions.
Greek mythology would have been widely known by Euripides audience and Phaedra s lineage is
no exception. Her mother, Paciphae, had slept with a bull and bore the Minotaur. The same
Minotaur Theseus would slay in the labyrinth. Her mother s monstrous sexual appetite taints
Phaedra s family. Phaedra s sister is also unlucky in romantic affairs as she is married to
Dionysius. In other versions of the Phaedra story, such as the Seneca play Phaedra; this ancestry is
the key reason for her unnatural attraction to her stepson. Nevertheless, even though Phaedra s
desire is derived from Aphrodite and she never acts upon it, her characterization is less favorable
than the womanizer Theseus. Christian theology often talks of the original sin in the Garden of
Eden. While both Adam and Eve eat of the fruit, it is Eve who offers the temptation to Adam. This

In fact, she is prepared to let herself die from starvation to save her reputation. This sacrifice and
her resilience make her much more sympathetic than a character like Potiphar s wife in the book
of Genesis. Phaedra s desire to be more is somewhat akin to Hippolytus fervency towards chastity.
However Phaedra is fighting her very being not to act on her desires, to the point that it is killing
her. Hippolytus sticks to his morals with such ease, highlighting Phaedra s desperate struggle
despite her best

Descriptive Essay About Frankenstein
I saw myself. Hideous, that s what I was. People were afraid of me, so I have to hide. A hidden

of people who were running away from something with fear leaving with them however, one boy

I came back to reality and see now I m standing by a sign that says Welcome to Derry . Behind the
giant sign was a sewage tunnel. I walked into the grey water and walked around for a bit. Trying
to find a spot to sleep I soon reached what I thought was the end of the sewers, however it was
the meeting point of where all the sewage pipes meet in Derry. For some reason I felt like I have
been here before. In my own thought, I hear some say a name. Hiya, Georgie! I turn around to
see the one who took my last breath away from me, Pennywise. Welcome back! The clown said,
as I stepped back away from my nightmare it moved closer to me. Did you miss me? The clown
said to me now and hovering over me with a big smile on his face. In the crease of his mouth
slobbered built up and dripped from his mouth onto my forehead. NO! I screamed as I pushed
pasted him running. YOUR NOT REAL I said sobbing. Hesitantly, the demonic creature then
licked his lips and said But Georgie I m Pennywise the dancing clown he responded with a smirk
on his face. GEORGIE I turn to see Bill. He is with seven other boys and two girls. Pennywise
was distracted by the group so I tried running to them, but he got me. Hands were wrapped around
my neck. I couldn t breathe. I felt something touch my hand and I let out a sob. I tried to calm
myself down. This isn t going to happen again. I

What sets the successful companies apart from the unsuccessful companies? Answer: Three main characteristics of the winner have succeeded as a successful company they are: i. They mainly concentrate on value rather putting their thoughts on long term goals, that means they always concentrate in reduction of the costs in a strategic context and with a reasonable spotlight on their core. ii. They misuse opportunities one of a kind to the downturn, which can mean anything from utilizing misfortune to increase new clients to squeezing forward with advancement. iii. They act quickly, with a spryness that allows them to keep pace with, or development of, speedy changes in the business environment. Successful companies always put their eye on the growth of the organization and they will try to keep the customers as they don t need to lose their valuable customers. So they will move on from their comfort zones and thrive hard towards their growth in the competitive world. They always show their commitment towards the innovation that helps in being a part of the successful company. (Berman, 2009). 2. Are the successful companies more agile in the marketplace? • 4. The Freedom Of Bear Arms One major issue in the United States today is the freedom to bear arms. There are split beliefs on this issue. Some people are against people being permitted to have a firearm because guns kill people. Other people are for being permitted to have a firearm because guns do not kill people on their own. It is the person behind the gun pulling the trigger that kills a person. In this paper, I will discuss both sides of this huge, nationwide issue. The founding fathers, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington, were the men that were the first to discuss about this resolution. Here are a select few of their thoughts on gun control, A free people ought to be armed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that we citizens should be permitted to hold a firearm and it shall not be taken or confiscated from us. Aaron Weiss, a combat veteran of Iraq, now a law enforcement officer, had some strong words to say about the Safe Act and about people and their rights. He states, I gave up a lot for this country, including my youth, and better men then me gave up a whole lot more so that all of you, myself included, can enjoy the rights that are guaranteed to us in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We didn t go through all of that to come back and watch you surrender what we fought for happen based off of the demented acts of two mad men. He is pretty much stating that our rights and freedom should not be taken away just because of stupid people. Aaron is a strong supporter of being aloud to have a firearm. For example, what would happen if you and your family were at home, someone broke into your house, they had a gun, and you did not? It would be a lot easier for the burglar to get away because he would not be scared of you as much. Now let us say you do have a gun. That changes everything because either the burglar would be more scared of you and would try to hurry up and escape, or if he was a real psychopath, he might try to shoot at you and your family. People should have the right to carry a firearm everywhere they go, as long as they have a permit with them. My English teacher, Mr. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Native Americans In The 19th Century 9. In the late 19th century, the United States population tripled from the 1850s. The arrival of 16.2 million immigrants fueled this growth. However, beginning in the 1890s, most European immigrants, who were the largest group immigrating, started to have different origins from Europe. Now they were coming from Southern and Eastern Europe. When they came to the cities, such as New York City, which was their port of arrival, they formed ethnic communities because they did not share the same values as the original, Protestant Americans or immigrants before them. Almost all immigrants located themselves in cities, nevertheless, because they came to America to find the American Dream, which was believed to be very true and plausible. The cities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poor and newly arrived immigrants faced many issues when in the cities that they called homes. In the tenements, usually in the worst parts of cities such as New York and Chicago, the poor lived in extremely cramped, unsanitary, and dangerous conditions. At work, the poor faced monotonous jobs, maybe turning a bolt, over and over again all day long. And from this job their pay was no more than around $1 $3 a day. Obviously, something had to be done to improve these conditions, as the government was not regulating or supporting the poor, especially the immigrants who received little to no help in the country after they paid their entry tax to the government. There were two groups interested in this subject with almost opposing views: the social reformers and the business leaders. The business leaders responded to the poverty in a manner inspire their personal beliefs. As seen by Andrew Carnegie, in his article, The Gospel of Wealth, the business leaders believed themselves to be superior humans with more able bodies and brains. They were Social Darwinists, who believed the poor were poor because they were inferior. Some leaders did nothing and purely made choices that benefitted the company over the employees. However, others, such as Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Melon, poured their own money into projects that would help the mind and make the poor happier, such as cultural or educational venues such as Carnegie Hall or Carnegie Mellon University. Today, there is less reading through stacks of resumes and more interacting with potential employees on a casual and formal basis. The method of job recruiting can include many different channels and practices. These methods can consist of practices such as attending job fairs, promoting from within, online and college recruiting, and referrals. Another disadvantage is that if you promote from within, you have to fill the position of the person you promoted, so in a sense you are back to square one (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Although this route may seem easier, cheaper, and less time consuming, it may not be the most ideal route to take. On the other hand, you have external recruiting which is the process of engaging individuals from the labor market outside of the firm to apply for a job (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Some examples of external recruiting would be using advertisements in newspapers, online job websites, career fairs, and referrals from current employees that would help fulfill any open positions (Applegate). If a company is going to promote themselves at a career fair it is important that they prepare in advance. The company must advertise! As obvious as this may seem, some companies do not advertise because they mainly rely on word of mouth. Some good advertising techniques would be to post flyers around local campuses, add a section in the newspaper, advertise on the radio, and use social media platforms. The company could also work with universities to send out an email blast to all of the students letting them know about the career fair so that it draws more potential employees in ( Effective Career Fair Recruiting ). European art took a turn from inspiration because of the Roman Greek Empire. Art and Cultureis changing throughout the world all the time. African Art styles and techniques are so vast and diverse that it is difficult to describe them all as a whole. Types and techniques of African art are also subject to specific regional influences found throughout the continent (Picton). For instance, the West African region includes Sudan, the Guinea Coast, and Nigeria. The West African region produces a lot of sculptural art while also being heavily influenced by the presence of Islam, creating a strict standard of what is acceptable art, This is an example of how artistic styles are influenced by religion, tribes, cities, economics, and society. • 9. The Siege Of Jerusalem By Ezekiel Ludicrous. Torturous. Appalling. The unthinkable prophetic acts that God commanded for Ezekiel to perform throughout his ministry were meant to be sensational scenes that demonstrated what was to come for the Israelites. Ezekiel, illustrating the siege of Jerusalem was one of the first prophetic acts God required Ezekiel to complete. God commanded Ezekiel to create a miniature version of an invading army camped around Jerusalemand then place an iron plate between himself and Jerusalem. Ezekiel, while lying on the left side of his body for three hundred ninety days, represented the number of years that Israel was punished, and then lying on his right side for forty days, represented the number of years that Judah was punished. Ezekiel had to portion out water and grain cake, which he was supposed to cook on human manure to demonstrate the unclean bread that Israel would soon eat, but Ezekiel refused as cooking on human manure disobeyed God s dietary laws. Therefore, God compromised with Ezekiel and allowed him to prepare the food on animal manure instead. Ezekiel, portraying the siege of Jerusalemwas just the beginning of what God required Ezekiel to do in order to illustrate the suffering that the Israelites were about to experience due to their unfaithfulness. Not only did God use Ezekiel to perform extraordinary prophetic acts in order to get His message across to the Israelites, but God also allowed for Ezekiel to have visions that reached beyond history and ... • 11. The Film Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho Alfred Hitchcock is widely considered one of the most essential directors of all time and has undeniably revolutionized the cinematic art form and horror genre movement. A key ingredient to his productions is the psychoanalysis of the movie s villains and the deceivery at comes with deep psychosis. These elements are what have taken Hitchcock from a good director to a legend. Hitchcock layers his movies in ways in which every time one watches his films they can pick up on a new detail that deepens the meaning and effects of the storyline. This is exactly what he does in his 1960 film, Psycho. By layering Freudian psychoanalysis, creating a twist ending and suspense, and giving the villain of the story, Norman Bates, a deeply rich background story, Hitchcock creates phenomenon in the audience arguably scarier, then Norman s murders. Through this use the psychoanalysis and backstory, the audience also feels sympathy for Norman. This duality is what makes Hitchcock a wonderful artist and Psycho, a piece of art. The first way in which Hitchcock gets his audience to feel sorry for Norman is his first conversation with Marion Crane. When the audience first sees Norman greeting Marion they see a very fresh faced boy who looks very sheltered and innocent. This is one of Hitchcock s first uses the Freudian analysis. • 17. Essay Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 During the Renaissance period, most poets were writing love poems about their lovers/mistresses. The poets of this time often compared love to high, unrealistic, and unattainable beauty. Shakespeare, in his sonnet 18, continues the tradition of his time by comparing the speakers love /mistress to the summer time of the year. It is during this time of the year that the flowers and the nature that surround them are at there peak for beauty. The theme of the poem is to show the speakers true interpretation of beauty. Beauties worst enemy is time and although beauty might fade it can still live on through a person s memory or words of a poem. Shakespeare uses two powerful metaphors in line five and in line six to compare the summer s imperfections to the perfection of the beloved. In line five he uses a metaphor Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines to describe that in the summer the sun gets to hot and this is yet another imperfection of a summer day which the beloved is superior to. Although some may compare there beloveds eyes with the glow or beauty of the eye of heaven here the speaker has chosen to claim the opposite saying that the sun is inferior to his beloved in that her eyes are more beautiful. In line six of the poem the idea of the sun being imperfect is further enhanced by phrase gold complexion dimmed this is implying that the sun is imperfect in that it is not always hot enough. Here the speaker implies that the beloved is flawless in that her complexion is never changed, remaining gold like. Nature that surrounds us is beautiful, the trees, ocean, and the wild life, and although the speaker makes a point to disfigure the view of nature the intention of the poet is to reinforce the beauty of the beloved. In line nine thy eternal summer shall not fade is an allusion to the beloved staying young and beautiful for eternity. This line is referring to the season changing from summer to winter, this means that the beauty is temporary and fades over a short period of time. The beloved on the other hand is ... • 20. The Development Of The Kidneys The embryological development of the kidneys occurs in three successive phases: the pronephros, the mesonephros, and the metanephros. Because of the nature in this development, there are many forms of congenital abnormalities associated with the kidneys. Because of their close developmental association, there is also a complex relationship between the reproductive system and the urinary system. During the pronephros phase in foetal development, by day 22, the intermediate mesoderm (identified lateral to the paraxial mesoderm) gives rise to nephrotomes (nephric vesicles) in the cervical region via the transformation of epithelial cells. The collection of the nephrotomes is referred to as the pronephros and will proceed to develop in a cephalo caudal direction. However, the pronephros is non functional and will atrophy within a few days. By day 23, the next phase of epithelial cells are induced to develop (lateral to the somite) by the pronephric duct as it elongates caudally into the thoracic region. The new epithelial tubules (mesonephric tubules) continue to receive a blood supply from capillary tufts branched from the dorsal aorta. The mesonephric tubules envelope the capillary tuft and are analogous to Bowman s capsules and glomerulus, respectively. These tubules are now functioning for a short period of time to filtrate the blood into the continuation of the pronephric duct, now known as the mesonephric duct or Wolffian duct. • 23. The Financial Crisis Is Considered By Many People As One... Introduction to Business Assignment 1 Travis J. Sisson 01 Oct 2016 The 2008 Financial Crisis is considered by many people as one of the worst recession since the Great Depression that occurred from 1929 1939. The loss for that week was an astounding $30 billion. This was ten times more than the annual federal budget and far more than the U.S. had spent in WWI (30B dollars would be equivalent to $377,587,032,770.41 today). Additionally after posing a huge effect on the U.S economy, the financial crisis expanded to Europe and the rest of the world. It brought down governments, wiped out retirement accounts, ruined economies and left a bad taste of Wall Street in the mouths of generations. These collapses caused a global scale of reform resulting in the intervention of governments by changing and expanding the monetary and fiscal policy or giving bailout that were needed in order to eliminate and control enormous effects of the financial crisis. The financial crisis of 2008, commonly referred to as The Great Recession and the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 , began with the downfall in the housing market in the United States. There were many factors that played into the housing bubble to finally burst. Some of these factors included: subprime loans, overall housing prices that peaked in 2005 2006 (and which are starting to peak again today), government policy and regulation (or lack thereof), and faulty mortgages that took advantage of unsuspecting home owners. • 25. Percy Bysshe Shelley s Poem In Lift Not The Painted Veil Lift not the painted veil , an 1818 sonnet by the British Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, depicts a person who lifts the veil that covers the world, in order to find love. This act, however, plunges him into a state of disorientation and forlornness, because it does not lead him to discover truth or love. Therefore, the sonnet s first line is admonitory and even forbids us to lift the veil. By focussing on the connotatively contrasting use of metaphors, this essay aims at demonstrating how Percy Bysshe Shelleys sonnet Lift not the painted veil , despite its deceptive, seemingly admonitory first line, encourages the individual to defy religion and to adopt atheism. In order to describe the world, the lyrical subject uses dark and negative metaphors. He equates the world of ordinary life with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that line 14 mentions a preacher who is unable to find truth corroborates the assertion that religion is deceptive. Furthermore, as demonstrated in the above, the veil literally and figuratively shrouds the world and its inhabitants in obscurity. As a result, religion also becomes associated with darkness and pessimism, intimating that it has a depressing effect on the world. • 28. Role Of Of The Jain Religion Shoshana Pollack April 19 2015 RLST:1620003 Final Paper The Role of Women in the Jain Religion The Jain tradition was born in India, a small but powerful religion that grew up alongside Buddhism and Hinduism. Like the other religions of India, Jainism teaches that when the body dies, the soul (known to the Jain as a jiva) is reincarnated. Eventually, through living religious lives, the soul will reach realization, the end of the process of death and rebirth. In his piece Fundamentals of Jainism, Champat Rai Jain explains that, within the Jain tradition, the path of salvation consists in Right Belief, Right Knowledge and Right Conduct, called the three Jewels ( Jain, 7.) One must know and understand the Jain tradition, believe what it is saying, and act in accordance with those beliefs. In order to conduct his or herself properly, a person of the Jain tradition must follow five vows. The most central statute of the Jain religion is the vow of Ahimsa, which means non injury. The religion places great emphasis on the 4 other vows as well, Satya (speaking only the truth) Asteya (taking only what is given,) Brahmacharya (chastity) and Aparigraha (non possession.) (Kinsey, lecture 3/7.) The Jain religion, while similar in some ways to Hinduism and Buddhism, is in many ways very unique. The respect that Jainism holds for all life is entirely it s own. • 30. Seven Steps to Solving the Housing Crisis The crisis that America has found herself in, to be completely blunt and honest, all revolves around stupidity and bad choices. American citizens that had absolutely no business even thinking of buying a house flooded the market and were encouraged by greedy bankers that were out to make a profit, without thinking of the consequences or morals involved. Now the governmenthas over stepped their boundaries and are spending this country into such deep debt, which makes one think that that light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train with no hope of slowing down, let alone stopping. The solution to this economic crisis is outlined in seven easy baby steps: 1. America needs to create a small emergency fund (at least a million... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If everyone bought houses that they could afford then there would be no more foreclosures; especially if everyone had an emergency fund to give them an alternative if something happened. If businesses weren t built on debt, especially sole proprietorships, then businesses wouldn t have to lay a bunch of people off or cut down productivity. America needs to save to help take care of her people and Americans need to take care of themselves so that we all win in the end. Lastly, America needs to build a bunch of wealth and give a bunch of it away. This concept is for the government and her people because when one gives and it becomes a habit, that person is forever changed. It reminds them that it s not all about them. It s not about getting a bunch of stuff that they can t afford to impress people that they don t even like. Essay on Farley Mowat s Walk Well, My Brother In the short story Walk Well, My Brother the author, Farley Mowat, develops the idea that a significant experience can lead to a change in how one individual views another individual. The story shows us how a person can learn from another person that is very different from them and be moved by their selflessness into becoming a better person. It also shows us how important it is for people not to judge others for superficial reasons. An individual can learn a lot from people that are very different from them. I feel that this story was written to illustrate that point. The story tells us about a man named Charlie Lavery who was twenty six years old and believed that he was capable of taking care of himself no matter what the situation. ... She was very ill with tuberculosis and she still followed Charles across the arctic in order to save his life, even after he had left her to die. We know this when Charles is questioning himself; Why had Konola not stayed in the relative safety of the aircraft or else traveled north to seek her own people? What had impelled her... to rescue a man of another race who had abandoned her? I think that this is a very important line, because it shows how Charles still feels a separation from her because of race. He cannot see how she would follow a man of another race . Konola does not see this as important, and that is why she feels compelled to save him. He is very moved by her acts of kindness. She took care of him and nursed him back to health even though she herself was very ill. This amazed Charles and changed him from a greedy person to a more giving one. It changed his outlook on the native people and on how he treated others. In the end he begins to care for Konola because she is too ill to take care of herself and this is proof that he had changed because of their situation and the things that she had done for him. • 32. Using Hierarchical Linear Modeling Methods As research across all fields and topics evolve, techniques on how to improve research endeavors, such as statistical modeling techniques, become important to utilize. Hierarchical linear modeling, similarly known as multilevel modeling, has been a statistical approach that has gained attention and improved the analysis and interpretation of research data (Osborne, 2000). Hierarchical linear modelingis a regression based statistical analysis that considers the hierarchical (i.e., multiple levels; nested) nature of variables within a dataset. Hierarchical data is data that has an organizational structure consisting of units of groups (i.e., levels) that are clustered under a larger group. Therefore, the variables within a dataset may have mediating effects and such effects can only be explored when taking into account the clustering of groups in the data. Prior to the wide spread use of hierarchical linear analyses, data that was structured hierarchically in nature was not analyzed appropriately due to the neglect of considering the correlated, underlying relationships among independent and dependent variables. Considering the correlated parameters of a proposed relationship within a dataset is of importance because the relating parameters would indicate that the variables are not independent. Thus, violating the assumption of independence and increasing the likelihood to make a Type 1 error, in addition to resulting in biased standard errors and hypothesis tests. ... Love in Lolita Some critics read Vladimir Nabokov s Lolita as a story of Humbert s unrequited love for the title character; others consider it a record of the rant ings of a mad pedophile, with, as Humbert himself admits, a fancy prose style. Nabokov s innovative construction, in fact, highlights both of these aspects as it reinforces and helps develop the novels main theme: the relationship between art and experience. By allowing Humbert to narrate the details of his life with Lolita, Nabokov illustrates the difficulties inherent in an attempt to order experience through art. As he tries to project an ideal vision of his relationship with Lolita, Humbert manipulates readers responses to him in order to gain sympathy and to effect a suspension of... Humbert illustrates the depths of his feeling for her when he admits that in his assessment of their life together, everything gets mixed up with the exquisite stainless tenderness seeping through the musk and the mud, through the dirt and the death, Oh God, oh God And what is most singular is that she, this Lolita, my Lolita, has individualized the writer s ancient lust, so that above and over everything there is Lolita. To understand the modern state of Christianity as evangelicals, it is necessary to realize that there have been important changes to the point in which we are today (Fahrsh, 2006). Several doubts among believers existed and this resulted in the existence of many movements. Some of these movements include liberalism, neo orthodoxy and evangelical movement. Theological movements To begin with liberalism movement, it was more common in the 19th and 20th centuries. As the term liberal implies the willingness that was there to explain and interpret the scripture according to the current day philosophic perspectives (Wilbur, 2006). This involved the use of scientific assumptions as they tried to achieve a better understanding and he points they see as appropriate and important. This was done without the need to know whether the agreed terms was in considerations of the previously known concepts and the correct doctrine. Much significance was put across as interpreted scientifically in the text and on morality (Wilbur, 2006). Second is the neo orthodox movement, it was more prominent and influential in the 20th century. It is a theological movement that was common in Europe and America and was mainly known as crisis or dialectical theology. JV and WOS are two completely different entry modes with their distinct down and upsides. Entering a new market gives both great opportunities and involves high risk. There are many uncertainties around partnerships, the partner can have a hidden agenda and have an opportunistic behavior (Aswathappa, 2010). The goal or objective for the partnership can be unclear and makes it difficult to know when they have succeeded. If there is an unbalance in the level of investment, effort or expertise the other partner can feel they are not getting what they expected.
