Saddam Hussein Justified
One of the greatest debates over the past decade has been whether the US s effort to overthrow a
tyrannical leader named Saddam Hussein was truly justified. The aim of this paper is to shed light on
what the relations were between the United States and Iraq for over half a century and what factors led
to such a disastrous invasion which left over half a million people dead and countless more injured.
What justifications did politicians such as Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush
give to the American public which convinced the masses that an invasion was necessary after
disastrous examples in the past such as the invasion of Vietnam? It is important that one looks over
specific turning points in history, such as the attack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As President George W. Bush made clear in his State of the Union on January 29, 2002, that in
meeting this challenge, the US would not differentiate between terrorist groups and nations which
harbor or arm them ( World Socialist ). Iraq did not specifically harbor al Qaeda, but it had provided
training camps and other support to terrorist groups fighting the government of Turkey and Iran, as
well as hard line Palestinian groups. In fact, the question of Iraq s link to terrorism grew more urgent
with Saddam s suspected determination to develop weapons of mass destruction (WMD), which Bush
administration officials feared he might share with terrorists who could launch devastating attacks
against the United States (Al Oraibi). Furthermore, the vice president at the time, Dick Cheney also
played a significant role in convincing the masses that an occupation was necessary. The venues for
Cheney s speeches were the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Nashville,
Tennessee and in San Antonio, Texas. Aside from assuring a receptive audience, the choice of veterans
groups reflects the administration s strategy of first

What Are The Factors To Reduce The Possibility Of Type 1...
Lejuez et al., (2002) decided to reduce the possibility of Type 1 error by deciding beforehand (a priori)
to only look at the adjusted number of pumps as the measurement for riskiness, yet they found that the
number of explosions and unadjusted number of pumps produces similar results (p.79). A few
interesting results were found in this first BART experiment. The first is that, correlations indicated
that the adjusted number of pumps was not related to age or IQ for any of the balloon colors ( ps .05) (
Lejuez et al., 2002). They found no gender difference except for the blue balloons where it shows men
being slightly more risky, (table 1). That is, the adjusted average number of pumps on the blue balloon
was higher for men than for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They state that the first limitation is the sample that was taken from people at the higher end of
riskiness due the prompt they used in the paper that asked are you a risk taker? They state the second
limitation is that the people that answered the recruitment add where mostly white (75%) and well
educated. The third limitation that was reported that our assessment of actual risk behaviors was less
comprehensive, often relying on only a single measure or even on a single item (e.g., number of
unprotected sexual encounters) (lejuez, et al., 2002, p. 82). The fourth reported limitation is that
people were behaving cautiously on the task. Finally the BART only showed association with self
reported real world risk behaviors from the blue balloons. Therefore, the restricted range of the yellow
and orange balloons did not find the same relationship. Although there were some limitations to this
study, overall, it showed the BART it a useful tool in measuring risk taking behavior in the lab. The
BART was not designed to replace the existing self report measures; it is designed to tap into actual
risk taking behavior that can be observed in the lab. Risk taking behavior is only one facet of the issue
of developing an addiction. There are biological and environmental factors that impact outcomes.
Impulsivity is associated with risk taking behavior because both behaviors are associated with
maladaptive behaviors

The Role Of London Landmarks Of London, And 28 Days Later
London has been a hot location for popular films for a long time. With beautiful scenery and an
amazing atmosphere, London can be the backdrop in any film genre. You can see London as a city of
romance, or you can see London as a dark lonely city. There are so many different Landmarks that are
constantly popping up in many films we enjoy. One can watch a film with no knowledge of the
location, and know that it is London right off the bat. With its beautiful landmarks and extraordinary
streets, London has had screen writers hearts from the start. I chose to compare and contrast the
function of London landmarks, and localities in two British films. These films being An American
Werewolf in London, and 28 days later. Both these British films are extremely different from the films
that we have watched in class, and that is why I chose them. An American Werewolf in London is a
British American comedy horror film written and directed by John Landis. While he is an American,
this film had British funding. This film is about two American college students, David Kessler, and
Jack Goodman who are backpacking through the UK. It begins to grow dark, and they decide to stop
in a Pub called The slaughtered Lamb. Jack notices a five pointed star on the wall and asks the locals
what this was all about. The pupgoers being grow hostile, and tell the boys to to beware of the full
moon. Both boys become uncomfortable and leave the pub. They begin walking and suddenly realize
they are lost.

The French Revolution
The French Revolution first began in 1789 when ideas from the age of Enlightenment crept into
France. The American Revolution had just occurred and come to a close, so the people of France
picked up on the ideals of freedom and balanced power. The amount of assistance France had given to
the Americans and also put towards their own Seven Years War left the country in shambles, with
famine spreading and economical problems being rampant. Nobility and royalty, who held the
majority of the money left in France, paid no taxes and lived lavishly while peasants starved to death
and suffered in the economical crisis. The king, Louis XVI, and his wife, Marie Antoinette, lived an
incredibly luxurious life in Versailles and used excessive funds for their lifestyle, while the citizens of
France lived in deplorable conditions. Ideas of Enlightenment spread among the peasants. They could
be free from kings, priests, and people in absolute power. The people could rule themselves. An
emergency meeting was called to discuss the state of affairs in the country. The Convocation of the
Estate s General formed, representing all three established estates in France. The Clergy had 300
representatives, Nobility had 300 representatives, and the third estate insisted on having 600
representatives, since the third estate encompassed the vast majority of the French population. The
Convocation met at Versailles. The third estate was angry about the economic state of France, so
things escalated

How To Motivate Offenders To Change
Abstract
Once an inmate is released from prison and given parole or probation it is difficult for them to live a
normal life like any other ordinary person would integrate day to day in our society. The offenders will
have many obstacles due to their criminal background in finding a job or even taken serious by others
in general. In a way, the parolee or probationer are fearful to how society might approach them once
let out of prison and even more frighten if the parolee or probationer served an indeterminate sentence
(10 20 years) in prison and not know how to become a part of society becomes their worst nightmare
due to the past thoughts of old habits that got them (parolee or probationer) in trouble with the system.

How to motivate offenders to change
(Clarissa Trejo)
Introduction
To motivate offenders to change sounds difficult, but is not impossible for those who accept to receive
help such as rehab, prevention programs that are effective for those whom have a drug or alcohol
problem and even one to one cognitive behavioral therapy that reduces recidivism in both youngsters
and adults.
History
The word, parole, derives from the French parole meaning word of honor and references prisoners of
war promising not to take up arms in current conflict if released. Probation has antecedents that reach
back to biblical times, its American history dates to the nineteenth century. The concept of probation
from the Latin probation, meaning period of proving. Evolved out of the practice of judicial reprieve,
used in English courts to serve as a temporary suspension of sentence to allow a defendant to appeal to
the crown for a pardon.
Issues of Probation and Parole
The 21st century is several years away and planning is needed to effectively manage excessive
caseloads to protect the public. This paper reviews a fresh means of supervision methodology and the
joining of the prevailing technology and the imminent technology of the 21st century. For quite some
time there has been a public, political

Women in Iran
1. Women s rights in Iran have for many years been a very controversial and heated topic. The way
women live and are viewed by men in Iran has changed in so many ways throughout the end of the
twentieth century leading into current day. Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was the last Shah of Iran
and throughout his attempt to westernize his country he was overthrown by the Iranian Revolution,
also known as the Islamic Revolution, on February 11th, 1979.[1] Religious rulers took over and
influenced the Sharia Law, which are decisions on how to live life by studying religious texts. Ever
since this change women have faced a struggle to survive in harsh conditions every day of their lives.
Inequality between Iranian men and women is a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows women to face discrimination in all walks of life, and which allows men the authority to
exercise their power without any fear of being held accountable for their actions. The Sharia or
Islamic law defines the roles of women which are that women are not equal to men when it comes to
inheritance, but men and women are equal before God when it comes to their religious duties and the
second is that women are placed under the protection and care of men. It says that men are not
superior to women and that in the beginning men did not come before women and visa versa and that
woman were not created for the purpose of man, but created in the unity of man.[11] After the
Revolution, the attitude toward women by men has been condescending.[12] Although the Hadith
states that women are morally defective , it must ignore the fact that the vast individuals jailed for
murder, rape, child abuse, etc. are men. The problem is that the laws have been derived from the
words of men and not the words of God in which were intended. The Qur an says O Mankind, keep
your duty to your Lord who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate (of same kind)
and from them twain has spread a multitude of men and women .[13] Women in Islamic culture had a
monopoly over the textile industry, mainly spinning and embroidery.[14] Muhammad said that women
s work in the household was extremely important and that Muslim women establish

Compare And Contrast The Book And Book
Quoting Joseph Conrad s famous statement as a storyteller My task which I am trying to achieve is, by
the powers of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel it is, before all, to make to see.
Sixteen years later, D.W Griffith, a filmmaker echoes the same thoughts The task I m trying to achieve
is above all to make you see . George Bluestone s Novels into Film claims that between the percepts
of the visual image and the concept of the mental image lies the root difference between two media. It
is true that a novel and film are both raw form of artistic creativity and it helps us to see a whole new

themes being explored are sexuality and the loss of innocence. Which are told brilliantly in both forms

Examples Of An End Of Racism
An End to Racism Although we may like to think racism does not exist in this world today, it still is
very much alive. Some people may support it or it can be looked frowned upon. This topic can be very
controversial. This issue has been a problem all around for a very long time. Racism is defined as the
belief of superiority over another race of others . Racism is often looking down on another race based
on color, culture, or physical appearance in general. There s so much history of racism; there are
issues from the past even still to this day you hear about, and a solution can be found to help end it.
Racism has been around for hundreds of years. Racism can be more than just not liking someone

Anyone can help put a stop to it. No person should have to be into this world and have to see the
horrifying things that have happened. Lives that have been taken for granted. Everyone is equal and
should feel equal. As Muhammad Ali said, Hating people because of their skin color is wrong. And it
doesn t matter which color does the hating. It s just plain wrong. We should not look down on
someone based on the color of their skin or culture. Anyone can come across and be racist. It is wrong
no matter what reasoning. There are many ways a person can help, simply sticking up for someone or
helping a person be more educated about the topic. A person is not born into being racist towards
someone else. Racism is taught. I was always taught never judge a book by its cover. Even with all the
crazy stuff that has happened in this world, we are all one in reality. You can make racism a positive
situation. It can help a person grow by being strong in their own skin. Although it may lower someone
s self esteem, it could also boost someone else s. Change is a good thing, people get too comfortable
around the people they know and the environment they are in. Once you get to know more about
someone else and their background, you are stepping out of your comfort zone. You learn through
someone else s eyes about their culture which you are not familiar

My Life Of The Sixth Grade
In the beginning of the sixth grade, I lived in the city of Westlake, Ohio, as I had for just over two
years, and attended Parkside Middle School. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and
happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be
moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that
Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time
before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was
content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly
accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a
miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health,
and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto
me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two
effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of
bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock
me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsmy rather
great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common
pursuits.

Analysis Of The Ghost Of King Hamlet
The Puppet Master
The Ghost of King Hamlet in William Shakespeare s Hamlet is a heavily debated character within the
play. Although the Ghost calls Hamlet his son there s no proof the Ghost is in fact the spirit of King
Hamlet. Which brings into question the nature of its character and motives. The Ghost of King Hamlet
is clearly evil based on its willingness to jeopardize Hamlets soul for revenge against Claudius. Based
solely on a religious standpoint, we could come to a few conclusions about the Ghost in Hamlet. One
being that even Hamlet was unsure of its origin and purity. He was afraid when he says Angels and
ministers of grace defend us! Be thou a spirit of health or goblin damned (Hamlet 1.4.39). John
Mullan, a Professor of English at University College London speculates in his Ghosts in Shakespeare
article that He does not simply take word of the Ghost on trust, ...and devout Protestants did not
believe in Ghosts, and Protestant Theologians often argued that apparitions could therefore only be
devices of the devil to disturb and mislead Christians (Mulan). We know Shakespeare struggled with
his own faith. In knowing this, it s hard to determine which faith characteristics he would have given
the Ghost and Hamlet, but it does seem like more than one was used for Hamlets character. King
Hamlet s Ghost appears to Hamlets saying, I am thy fathers spirit doomed for a certain term to walk
the night and for the day confined to fast in fires, Till

Getting Into the Mind of a Late Medieval Peasant Essay
Getting Into the Mind of a Late Medieval Peasant
The middle Ages were dark and gloomy. People lived in castles and rode on horses. They constantly
fought each other with swords and shields. That mainly sums up the Middle Ages, right a world with
no technology sounds almost horrifying. However, there were many forms of Medieval Technology.
Of course they didn t have electricity or batteries in the middle Ages, but that s not all technology is.
Technology is the application of science, especially in industry or commerce. So basically, anything

Hence, the windmill and water mill of the middle Ages were very important industrial advancements.
Medieval Industrial Technology has also been characterized by many agricultural improvements.
Medieval farmers used the heavy plough to loosen soil for seed planting. It originated in Asia Minor,
but was later used in Northern Europe. These ploughs were normally mounted on two wheels, and
pulled by several horses or oxen. The heavy plough was also used to rid uncultivated land of weeds
and other vegetation. Even though it did not destroy most plant root systems, it did expose them to the
air, which inhibited their growth. The ditches created by the plough also slowed erosion caused by
heavy rains.
Before the heavy plough, most medieval farmers used a lighter plough. Unlike the heavy plough,
horses and oxen did not pull the light plough. This was a major difference in the effectiveness of the
light plough. The horse collar or horse harness was only used with the heavy plough. The collar puts
the workload on the horse s shoulders instead of the back or neck, such as in earlier models. The horse
collar allowed horses to use more power without straining their necks or backs. Medieval Farming
benefited immensely from these two important, agricultural inventions.
Medieval Construction and building also benefited from the invention of the horse collar. The

The Survivors Of The Titanic Disaster
On the nigh of April 14, 1912 the world was struck with disaster as the RMS Titanic collided with an
iceberg and sunk into the sea. Only 31.6% survived the disaster. In order to understand what factors
lead to the highest chances of survival, this project uses a Titanic passenger database and decision
trees in order to classify survivors into two groups, survived and perished. Then using this
information, rank the most important factors regarding likelihood of survival. ADD RESULTS.
1 Introduction
On the nigh of April 14, 1912 the world was struck with disaster as the RMS Titanic collided with an
iceberg and sunk into the sea. Traveling from Southampton, England to New York City, New York, the
ship was thought to be unsinkable with no chance of disaster striking. However, the voyage ended not
in New York, but the more than 1500 deaths, the most deadly peacetime maritime disaster in history.
This meant that only 31.6% of the people aboard the ship survived, 492 passengers and 214
crewmembers.
Nevertheless, not all has been lost about the people aboard the ship the night of the disaster that did
not make it into the lifeboats. Due to the fact that most of the passengers details were recorded when
the purchased their tickets or boarded the boat, we can easily see who was present that night and who
survived the disaster. What is harder to understand is what facts caused certain people were more
likely to survive the disaster and of those factors which ones were the most

Destiny USA
What happens when the world s largest green building will also be the world s largest shopping mall?
You get a building fueled by renewable energy that harbors within its walls unsustainable patterns of
consumption. This green mall, Destiny USA, is expected to open in Syracuse, New York. Destiny is a
proposed $4.2 billion project that will use green building technology to create a complex that will be
home to an amphitheater, an aquarium, 500 retailers, 20,000 hotel rooms, and a 65 acre glass enclosed
rooftop park (Destiny USA Website).
Destiny is being touted as the key to the economic comeback and future success of Central New York.

This technology could spread to the rest of Syracuse and would be a way to introduce concepts of
sustainability to people who visit Destiny. Sounds like a good plan, but in reality might fall short of its
goals. Carl and Greg both felt that this project will fail, and that its failure will be attributed to its
green design, not the project s other characteristics. This could negatively affect other, smaller scale
green projects. These types of projects would be deemed risky investments and scare away potential
investors, which would make the investment capital that is crucial to the start up of these projects hard
to come by.
An estimated 40 million people will visit Destiny annually 12 million from out of state (Destiny USA
Website). Since Destiny s father, Pyramid CEO Bob Congel, repeatedly states that he wants Destiny to
be fossil fuel free, it is ironic that plans include enormous parking garages and lots. How will all of
these millions of consumers reach Destiny? They will come by automobile. It is ridiculous to espouse
that this project will be fossil fuel free.
Michael said that this project, despite its pro environmental aspects, does not challenge the
fundamental problems facing our society, which include unsustainable levels

The Sikhs Essay
In the year 1469 a man named Guru Nanak was born into a Punjabi Hindu family. His name means
quot;He who was born at the home of his mother s parents quot;, which was in Talwandi, near Labone
( quot;Sikhs quot; 647). We know little about Nanak s life but a lot about his beliefs from a book
called quot; Adi Granth quot; or quot; Granth Sahib quot;, which means holy book. Some of his
beliefs were the reality of quot;karma quot; and quot;reincarnation quot;.These are beliefs that our
actions in this life determine how high or low we ll be in our next life. The Hindus and Muslims

He made his own village, Goindual, a city for pilgrims, though Nanak said that missionizing was not

Nanak said you shouldn t make sacred writings. Guru Amar Das appointed, as his successor, his son in

emperor Akbor. Before then the Guru ship was given to someone who deserved it, but from that point
on it was given to a family member. So, Ram Das gave it to his third son Arjan Dev, a legendary hero
of his time. Guru Arjan Dev put together the quot;Granth Sahib quot;, supposedly taking it from the
works of Amar Das. Before he died, Guru Arjan told his son Hargobind to wear, when he became
Guru, not one but two swords because one stood for quot;piri quot;, the continuing authority of the
Guru and the other stood for quot;miri quot; the newly assumed secular authority (McLeod 4). It was
from his secular authority that the Panth or Sikh community developed, always arming themselves out
of fear of the Mughal forces. The death of Arjan is not clear but it probably did occur while he was in
Mughal custody. Guru Hargobind was forced to change the Panth from Nanak Panth, the Panth similar
to the days of Nanak, to a military Panth. After Guru

Extended writing task Grade 11
South Africa is currently part of BRICS and CIVETS emerging markets, and none in Africa. In me
essay I ll be discussing whether South Africa should stay with these emerging markets or rather focus
on Africa.
BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and CIVETS (Columbia, Indonesia, Vietnam,
Egypt, Turkey, and South Africa) are all examples of some of the emerging markets in the world.
BRICS are the world s largest emerging markets and CIVETS are the second largest emerging markets
in the world. Emerging markets are also known as; emerging economies or developing countries. An
emerging market is a term used to describe a country that is still developing. It is not yet developed
but it is neither underdeveloped, it is in between. These countries have some characteristics that would
classify them as developed, but they also have characteristics that would classify them as
underdeveloped (not to be confused with undeveloped ). Emerging markets are countries that offer a
wealth opportunity in trade, technology transfers and foreign direct investment; they are restructuring
their economies along market orientated lines. Leaders of these developing countries want to increase
the living quality of their people. Therefore they are rapidly industrializing and adopting a free market
or mixed economy.

Death In Venice Themes
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, was told from the point of view of Gustav von Aschenbach. The
main theme of the novel was Aschenbach following around a little Italian boy, Tadzio. Tadzio reminds
Aschenbach of himself when he was a child. Aschenbach and Tadzio were ill as children which is why
Aschenbach becomes infatuated with Tadzio. Aschenbach was home schooled as a child because he
was very ill and his parents decided that it was best for him to remain isolated from the other children.
He came from a wealthy family which allowed him to live this lifestyle. The difference between the
two is that although Tadzio is ill as a child he was still presented opportunities to play with other
children and gain experiences. Part of the reason that Aschenbach as an adult has writers block is
because as a child and as a young adult he didn t have communication with the outside world. The
remainder of this essay will be focused on the fact that if Aschenbach lived a normal life like Tadzio
then the consequences of Aschenbach s legacy wouldn t have been tarnished . As Aschenbach s
character developed throughout the book, his appearance also changed which was caused by the
behavior of Tadzio. Tadzio possess something that Aschenbach didn t have when he was a child, a
childhood. In the novel Aschenbach sees an Oldman that has changed his appearance in order to fit in
with the younger crowd. For example, the Oldman dyed his hair. He is appalled by this but later on he
actually changes his appearance to become closer to Tadzio. Aschenbach is trying to reunite with his
youth. The obsession with the young boy, which shows itself as lust, is really his desire to be young
again. By pursuing Tadzio dressed as a youthful figure, he thinks he can achieve this. Aschenbach s
outward transformation is completed with help from the hotel barber. Aschenbach dyes his hair black,
applies cosmetics to his face, and arches his eyebrows. The result is a more youthful Aschenbach. If
Aschenbach lived a normal childhood he wouldn t have the desire as an adult to become a child once
again and follow Tadzio. In reality, the change in his appearance made Aschenbach look like a clown
which is how other people perceived him when he dies watching

Using Paleomagnetic Data For The World s Landmasses Of...
A supercontinent, known as Pangea, was formed by the aggregation of all the world s landmasses in
the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. This concept of a supercontinent was originally proposed by Alfred
Wegener (Wegener, 1915). He suggested that all continents assembled into a single supercontinent,
approximately 300 million years ago, and then according to the theory of plate tectonics, began to
break apart 175 million years ago (Rogers et al., 2004) Immense geologic and geophysical evidence
have been presented, by Wegener and others, to support this theory for the Late Triassic Early
Jurassic. However when analyzing the paleomagnetic data for the Late Paleozoic time, inconsistencies
are present which suggest a very different Pangea construction. These inconsistencies are seen in Late
Paleozoic paleomagnetic data apparent polar wander paths (APWPs) for Laurussia and Gondwana. To
fit Wegner s Pangea reconstruction, the APWPs suggest a substantial crustal overlap and shearing
(Domeier et al., 2012). This paper looks to review proposed alternative reconstructions for Pangea,
using paleomagnetic data as the quantifiable method for determining the supercontinent s location.
Paleomagnetic data as evidence for Plate Tectonics
Paleomagnetism is the study of earth s magnetic field as preserved in the magnetic orientation of
certain minerals. For example, when igneous rocks are formed, during cooling, certain minerals align

Social And Environmental Impacts Of Latin America
The social and environmental impacts of development in Latin America are closely tied together, and
while they affect everyone it seems that the brunt of it is felt by indigenous and the so called peasants
of Latin America. The environmental and social impacts work in tandem to further oppress Indigenous
people who have faced oppression since the Spanish first landed on their shores. Land continues to be
taken from them and MNCs, foreign interests, and even their own governments have deteriorated the
quality of the land that they still possess due to exploitation. This is particularly prevalent in countries
such as Ecuador, which have a long history of reliance on primary commodity exports.
In Ecuador the oil industry is one that began its domination in the 1970s, of which massive plots of
land were contracted to Texaco Golf, roughly 1.431 million hectares in the Oriente area (Rochlin, 14)
After numerous spills occurred in the area a local NGO stepped in and started a lawsuit against Texaco
Chevron for what they called indigenous cultural destruction . (Rochlin, 24) Where they claimed
numerous locals had been noticing increased levels of cancer and other unusual illnesses. These
people are often overlooked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where in countries such as Chile and Argentina, policies have been implemented favoring MNCs as
opposed to indigenous people. These policies have given these MNCs more or less absolute right to
remove indigenous people from mineral rich land. (Gordon Webber, 69) Furthermore, mining projects
such as the Pascua Lima gold mine can have massive externalities both socially and environmentally.
The proposed plan to transfer roughly 10 hectares of glacier sitting above the Huasca Valley would
have robbed farmers of their water source, drastically altered local habitats and the cyanide run off
from cyanide heaping would have contaminated local water. (Gordon Webber,

Target Corporation Business Analysis
Target Corporation is an American retailing company that uses various retail formats that range from
low end to high end items. It was founded in 1902 by George Draper Dayton. It is now the fourth
largest retailer in the United States and operates almost 1600 stores in 47 states (Funding Universe,
2004). Target differentiate themselves by other competitors by offering consumers fashion products
and grocery at affordable prices, that drags the customers into purchasing more. A typical Target store
averages from 145,000 square ft by 126,000 square ft. (Funding Universe, 2004). The stores are
spacious, with a display of a grid format, which concludes in consumers shopping for items that are
put on long gondolas so less space would be wasted.
How It All Began
In 1902, the founder, George Draper Dayton, who was a real estate investor and a banker, becomes

Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant Essay
Background
Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is the biggest advanced wastewater treatment plant
in the world, which covers 153 acres. The facility is operated by District of Columbia Water and
Sewer Authority (DC Water). It provides wastewater collection and treatment services to more than 2
million customers in Washington, USA. The treatment plant can treat up to 370 millions of gallons per
day in Maryland, the District, and Virginia suburbs, with a complete treatment peak flow of 740 mgd,
and an excess flow of 336 mgd (Eckert et al., 2010).
Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant received awards from the National Association of
Clean Water Agencies for having a peak performance for more than 10 sequential years. In the year
2003, the plant also received an excellence in management award. In the previous years, the plant has
successfully upgraded and improved its liquid processing systems. There is little doubt that DC water
has been a champion of protection and restoring all their waterways.
To provide a reliable supply of consumable water from the Potamic River to the city, the congress
commissioned the construction of an aqueduct system in the year 1852. Washington Aqueduct was
designed and constructed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The operation began in 1864. In the
20th century, filtration plants were added to the system.
A sewage treatment plant was constructed in the Blue Plains area, at the southernmost tip of DC in

Essay On Moral Dilemmas In The Crucible
What is a moral dilemma? A moral dilemma is a man versus self conflict. It is when a character has to
perform two different actions, but they can not perform both actions because it is not possible. Authors
use moral dilemmas in their writings to retain the reader s interest in the book or play and to have the
reader ask questions. People often face many life altering choices such as right versus wrong or good
versus bad. In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, John Proctor chooses to die because he does not want to
blacken his name throughout Salem and to ruin his sons names when they grow up. John Proctor faces
one of his many moral dilemmas to confess to witchcraft in order to stay alive. In making this decision

The second moral dilemma John Proctor faces is to tell the truth and die as an honest man. He has the
choice to either lie in order to live or die with his friends in an honourable way. Proctor realizes that if
he choses to tell the truth he will no longer be the sinful man he thought he is, but would keep his
name in good standing and be a good role model for his sons. I have three children how may I teach
them to walk like men in the world, and I sold my friends? (IV.I). If John chooses to live he will be
looked upon by his friends and family as a liar and an unmoral man. He will not be able to function in
the Puritan society, so he comes to the conclusion to tell the truth and be put to death. He believes God
will save him because he is doing the right thing by choosing to die and he will be remembered for his
dignity. His wife Elizabeth watches the hanging and says, He have his goodness now. God forbid I
take it from him! (IV.I). As Proctor is about to be hanged, sunlight shines throughout the town
representing John made the right decision and he will be going to God. After all, John Proctor does
give up his life, but he knows he saves his sons from walking around with a tainted name and keeps
the names of his friends clean, not betraying them. John Proctor chooses to die by telling the truth and

if the effort put in would equal the benefits. When looking at this it is evident that much more research

world. From there it is critical that a standard must be set for the production of all enzymes used in
this process, making sure they are produced in abundance to ensure stability. Concerning the cost it is
evident that production of this drug through chemoenzymatic means compares similarly to that of
through pig intestines. Moreover the more steadfast way of producing heparin through chinese

Epilepsy Drug Therapies
Introduction:
This paper will focus on the history of epilepsy, the causes of the disease specifically its genetic link
and the evolution of drug therapies. My interest in this topic stems from working with people with
developmental disabilities in a group home setting, many of whom suffer from seizure disorders. I
understand that the disease carries a stigma and many people still hide that they have the condition
which why it s important to educate people about it.
According to Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, in the United States, it is estimated that more
than 3 million people have active epilepsy, with 200,000 new cases diagnosed each year (2014, p.

However, researchers proved that theories of the effect of Epilepsy on brain function were more than

The struggle for the person that Percy describes in The Loss of the Creature is displayed by Rodriguez

Virulence Factors Of Cryptoccus Neoformans
Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn) is a basidiomycete fungus that causes cryptococcosis worldwide in
immunodeficiency and healthy individuals. In this pathogen, the elaboration of virulence factors
including melanin and the capsule depends on intact intracellular trafficking, an essential cellular
process also required for nutrient uptake, ion homeostasis, and receptor recycling. Our previous
studies have found that Cn evolves a cryptococcal intersectin (Cin1) regulated endocytic pathway
essential for growth and virulence. We have also obtained evidence linking Cin1 to extracellular RNA
through RNA Seq and to CNS survival through co infection of a mouse model of cryptococcosis.
However, how Cin1 governs the transport network affecting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Specifically, we will find if Cin1 orchestrates the only endocytic pathway and how it affects host
parasite interaction through regulating exRNA transport and mouse CNS survival. We propose three
specific aims: Aim 1 is to determine if Cin1 mediates the sole endocytic pathway in Cn through
identification and characterization of pathway components. Aim 2 is to examine the role of Cin1 in
exRNA export through continued annotation and analysis of RNA Seq data. Aim 3 is to further
explore the CNS survival advantage of Cin1 S by generating the Cin1 L strain using one step CRISPR
Cas9 mutagenesis method we recently developed and testing it through co infection.
Our central hypothesis is that intracellular trafficking is important in pathogen growth and interaction
with a host resulting pathogenesis (our long term goal). We propose those specific aims to test the
hypothesis that Cn evolves a distinct Cin1 endocytic pathway necessary for pathogenesis (short term
goal). Through studying a fundamental cellular process and its adaptation to pathogenesis of Cn, our
investigation could lead to the discovery of novel antifungal targets. 2. Specific Aims
Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn) virulence depends on active transport of vesicles that contain melanin
and capsule precursors, proteinases, and other macromolecules. We found that Cin1 is critical in
mediating intracellular trafficking affecting growth and virulence and that Cin1 S isoform exhibits a
marked survival advantage in the

The Culture Of The Thule Culture
The Netsilik are an indigenous community that are descendants of the Thule culture, they reside North
of Hudson Bay, just above the Arctic circle. They call themselves the Netsilik or people of the seal
because of their unusual diet (Young, 1970). In his video Young states that, The winter months for the
Netsilik people starts in September and last right up until June, during these months the temperatures
can range anywhere from 30 50 degrees below 0 (1970). During the 2 3 months of warmer weather,
the summer tundra remains wet, since permafrost not far below the surface prevents drainage
(Netsilik, n.d). This causes the Netsilik to migrate frequently.
Their first encounter of non natives was in 1890, a meeting that was brief but would provoke further
meetings until the twentieth century. Interaction with other civilizations would only prove to advance
their own, for neighboring communities like the Iglulik introduced them to more advanced weaponry
like the rifle which eventually replaced their standard harpoon; thus making hunting much easier.
Later on in 1920, trading posts were established, this completely changed their economy, for instead
of white fox fur trapping and trade, the Netsilik now would trade for additional items made by non
natives, including woolen clothing, tobacco, steel traps, fishing nets, canoes, tea, and canvas tents
(Netsilik, n.d). Adding these trading posts not only shows how adaptive the Netsilik are to other

kicking cans or playing tag anymore, all everyone does is play Anger Birds and watch dumb videos. It
s deplorable! It s ridiculous! I swear, there s no hope for this generation. The confrontation lasted a
whole 5 minutes, in which Ms. Prunesworth unloaded practically all she had to say about technology.
The old bag practically screamed at the poor young woman, her dentures gnashing together, causing a
bit of foam to form at the corners of her jowls. The girl s phone was ringing during this time, but she
was too stunned to notice. When she finally checked back, she noticed she had a missed call, and cried
out in despair. You made me miss the call! I can t believe you! You re darned right I did! That ll teach
you whippersnappers to pay more attention to the world around you. I swear... With that, Prunesworth
stepped in front of the girl in line, grabbed her coffee, and shuffled out. The young woman stood their,

Last Mile Health Research Paper
Africa is usually thought of a poor continent. A continent pitted by famine, droughts, floods, and
sickness. The last Mile Health charity is trying to help the outlook of health in Africa. They are trying
to get health care to the rural communities of West Africa, because of several reasons since health was
beginning to be worse by the years in the early 2000 s. At the end of the civil war in Liberia there were
only fifty doctors to treat the ill. If you lived in city areas you could have lived. If you lived in rural
areas you would have died needlessly, from easy to fix situations. Last Mile Health helps because they
want to achieve a vision of a healthy work for everyone, everywhere, everyday. They work with

The Maintenance Of International Peace And Security
General James Jones, former head of EUCOM says that We are attempting to avoid Africa from
becoming the next Afghanistan or Iraq, (Paterson, 2008, p. 15). The maintenance of international
peace and security are the main responsibilities of the UN. The UN Security Council plays a critical
role in peacekeeping. Many peacekeeping operations have been operating all around the world since
the UN was established. However, most of the peacekeeping operations have been taking place on the
African continent more than other continents. The continent of Africa has become increasingly violent
since the end of World War II and the situation has changed to be larger and more complex. As a
result, around 8 million African people have died in different ... Show more content on

It is clear that some of the UN missions have received many restrictions from the host country
authorities. Before the mission starts, the responsibility of the country s leaders is to make the special
agreement with the UN. The agreement is signed between the UN and the leaders of the government.
Based on the agreement, the host nation s leaders must support the UN peacekeeping operations in
order to establish a safe working environment. The peacekeepers are supposed to achieve all tasks
without any constraints from the host country authorities. Nevertheless, in some cases, this agreement
is violated by political leaders of the country. For instance, in the Darfur crisis, Al Bashir, who is the
president of Sudan, played to local fear. He said that the UN forces did not really provide peace in
Darfur because they wish to recolonize Sudan and the UN military has a secret agenda (Paterson,
2008, p. 18). Additionally, in 2004, the African Union (AU) peacekeepers begun to arrive in Darfur.
The mission s name was AU Mission in Sudan (AMIS) and was composed of about 7,500 soldiers and
police from Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, and South Africa (Paterson, 2008). After two years, the UN
and AU decided that the AMIS peacekeeping should be taken over by a UN force. The government of
Sudan, headed by Omar al Bashir, rejected any collaboration with the UN and noted that international
military forces on its terrain would disrupt its independence (Paterson,

Applied Ethics Biomedical Ethics Midterm Assignment
Word Count:
Applied ethics, put simply, is a term used to describe an event, issue, or situation which can be
debated on its morality. Using philosophical ideas, we try to decide the moral choice and if these
situations should be allowed. Of course, being humans and having different upbringings and different
environments, we often don t concur on many issues. One topic that is highly debatable is euthanasia.
What exactly IS euthanasia? According to Merriam Webster1, euthanasia is the act or practice of
killing someone who is very sick or injured in order to prevent any more suffering. 2 Basically a
mercy killing. Many people support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is active, passive, voluntary, and involuntary euthanasia as well as assisted suicide.6 In active
euthanasia, something is done to speed up death in an uncomfortable situation for a person, such as
apply a lethal injection, different from passive euthanasia where nothing is done, such as not
administer treatment because someone is so close to death or pull someone off of life support. The
difference between voluntary and involuntary euthanasia is pretty clear. This just explains if the
suicide was voluntary or not. If a patient seeks euthanasia, it is voluntary, if the person is unconscious
or cannot make their own decisions, and the family decides for the patient, it is involuntary. There is a
difference between euthanasia and assisted suicide, however. Euthanasia would be a doctor
administering the drug that is meant to cause death, and assisted suicide is being provided the means
to end your life (such as lethal injection), and administering it yourself. Where would this practice be
okay? Some people may or may not be

The aim of this paper is to shed light on what the relations were between the United States and Iraq for over half a century and what factors led to such a disastrous invasion which left over half a million people dead and countless more injured. What justifications did politicians such as Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. In fact, the question of Iraq s link to terrorism grew more urgent with Saddam s suspected determination to develop weapons of mass destruction (WMD), which Bush administration officials feared he might share with terrorists who could launch devastating attacks against the United States (Al Oraibi). Furthermore, the vice president at the time, Dick Cheney also played a significant role in convincing the masses that an occupation was necessary. Lejuez et al., (2002) decided to reduce the possibility of Type 1 error by deciding beforehand (a priori) to only look at the adjusted number of pumps as the measurement for riskiness, yet they found that the number of explosions and unadjusted number of pumps produces similar results (p.79). A few interesting results were found in this first BART experiment. The first is that, correlations indicated that the adjusted number of pumps was not related to age or IQ for any of the balloon colors ( ps .05) ( Lejuez et al., 2002). They state the second limitation is that the people that answered the recruitment add where mostly white (75%) and well educated. The third limitation that was reported that our assessment of actual risk behaviors was less comprehensive, often relying on only a single measure or even on a single item (e.g., number of unprotected sexual encounters) (lejuez, et al., 2002, p. 82). The fourth reported limitation is that people were behaving cautiously on the task. Finally the BART only showed association with self reported real world risk behaviors from the blue balloons. Therefore, the restricted range of the yellow and orange balloons did not find the same relationship. Although there were some limitations to this study, overall, it showed the BART it a useful tool in measuring risk taking behavior in the lab. The BART was not designed to replace the existing self report measures; it is designed to tap into actual risk taking behavior that can be observed in the lab. Risk taking behavior is only one facet of the issue of developing an addiction. There are biological and environmental factors that impact outcomes. This film is about two American college students, David Kessler, and Jack Goodman who are backpacking through the UK. The American Revolution had just occurred and come to a close, so the people of France picked up on the ideals of freedom and balanced power. The amount of assistance France had given to the Americans and also put towards their own Seven Years War left the country in shambles, with famine spreading and economical problems being rampant. Nobility and royalty, who held the majority of the money left in France, paid no taxes and lived lavishly while peasants starved to death and suffered in the economical crisis. The king, Louis XVI, and his wife, Marie Antoinette, lived an incredibly luxurious life in Versailles and used excessive funds for their lifestyle, while the citizens of France lived in deplorable conditions. Ideas of Enlightenment spread among the peasants. They could be free from kings, priests, and people in absolute power. The people could rule themselves. An emergency meeting was called to discuss the state of affairs in the country. The Convocation of the Estate s General formed, representing all three established estates in France. The Clergy had 300 representatives, Nobility had 300 representatives, and the third estate insisted on having 600 representatives, since the third estate encompassed the vast majority of the French population. It says that men are not superior to women and that in the beginning men did not come before women and visa versa and that woman were not created for the purpose of man, but created in the unity of man.[11] After the Revolution, the attitude toward women by men has been condescending.[12] Although the Hadith states that women are morally defective , it must ignore the fact that the vast individuals jailed for murder, rape, child abuse, etc. are men. Although the Ghost calls Hamlet his son there s no proof the Ghost is in fact the spirit of King Hamlet. Which brings into question the nature of its character and motives. The Ghost of King Hamlet is clearly evil based on its willingness to jeopardize Hamlets soul for revenge against Claudius. Based solely on a religious standpoint, we could come to a few conclusions about the Ghost in Hamlet. One being that even Hamlet was unsure of its origin and purity. He was afraid when he says Angels and ministers of grace defend us! Be thou a spirit of health or goblin damned (Hamlet 1.4.39). John Mullan, a Professor of English at University College London speculates in his Ghosts in Shakespeare article that He does not simply take word of the Ghost on trust, ...and devout Protestants did not believe in Ghosts, and Protestant Theologians often argued that apparitions could therefore only be devices of the devil to disturb and mislead Christians (Mulan). Medieval farmers used the heavy plough to loosen soil for seed planting. It originated in Asia Minor, but was later used in Northern Europe. These ploughs were normally mounted on two wheels, and pulled by several horses or oxen. The heavy plough was also used to rid uncultivated land of weeds and other vegetation. Even though it did not destroy most plant root systems, it did expose them to the air, which inhibited their growth. The ditches created by the plough also slowed erosion caused by heavy rains. Before the heavy plough, most medieval farmers used a lighter plough. Unlike the heavy plough, horses and oxen did not pull the light plough. This was a major difference in the effectiveness of the light plough. The horse collar or horse harness was only used with the heavy plough. The collar puts the workload on the horse s shoulders instead of the back or neck, such as in earlier models. The horse collar allowed horses to use more power without straining their necks or backs. In me essay I ll be discussing whether South Africa should stay with these emerging markets or rather focus on Africa. BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and CIVETS (Columbia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, and South Africa) are all examples of some of the emerging markets in the world. BRICS are the world s largest emerging markets and CIVETS are the second largest emerging markets in the world. Emerging markets are also known as; emerging economies or developing countries. An emerging market is a term used to describe a country that is still developing. It is not yet developed but it is neither underdeveloped, it is in between. These countries have some characteristics that would classify them as developed, but they also have characteristics that would classify them as underdeveloped (not to be confused with undeveloped ). Emerging markets are countries that offer a wealth opportunity in trade, technology transfers and foreign direct investment; they are restructuring their economies along market orientated lines. • 25. Death In Venice Themes Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, was told from the point of view of Gustav von Aschenbach. The main theme of the novel was Aschenbach following around a little Italian boy, Tadzio. Tadzio reminds Aschenbach of himself when he was a child. Aschenbach and Tadzio were ill as children which is why Aschenbach becomes infatuated with Tadzio. Aschenbach was home schooled as a child because he was very ill and his parents decided that it was best for him to remain isolated from the other children. He came from a wealthy family which allowed him to live this lifestyle. The difference between the two is that although Tadzio is ill as a child he was still presented opportunities to play with other children and gain experiences. Part of the reason that Aschenbach as an adult has writers block is because as a child and as a young adult he didn t have communication with the outside world. The remainder of this essay will be focused on the fact that if Aschenbach lived a normal life like Tadzio then the consequences of Aschenbach s legacy wouldn t have been tarnished . As Aschenbach s character developed throughout the book, his appearance also changed which was caused by the behavior of Tadzio. Tadzio possess something that Aschenbach didn t have when he was a child, a childhood. In the novel Aschenbach sees an Oldman that has changed his appearance in order to fit in with the younger crowd. For example, the Oldman dyed his hair. He is appalled by this but later on he actually changes his appearance to become closer to Tadzio. Aschenbach is trying to reunite with his youth. The obsession with the young boy, which shows itself as lust, is really his desire to be young again. By pursuing Tadzio dressed as a youthful figure, he thinks he can achieve this. Aschenbach s outward transformation is completed with help from the hotel barber. Aschenbach dyes his hair black, applies cosmetics to his face, and arches his eyebrows. The result is a more youthful Aschenbach. If Aschenbach lived a normal childhood he wouldn t have the desire as an adult to become a child once again and follow Tadzio. • 27. Using Paleomagnetic Data For The World s Landmasses Of... A supercontinent, known as Pangea, was formed by the aggregation of all the world s landmasses in the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. This concept of a supercontinent was originally proposed by Alfred Wegener (Wegener, 1915). He suggested that all continents assembled into a single supercontinent, approximately 300 million years ago, and then according to the theory of plate tectonics, began to break apart 175 million years ago (Rogers et al., 2004) Immense geologic and geophysical evidence have been presented, by Wegener and others, to support this theory for the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. However when analyzing the paleomagnetic data for the Late Paleozoic time, inconsistencies are present which suggest a very different Pangea construction. These inconsistencies are seen in Late Paleozoic paleomagnetic data apparent polar wander paths (APWPs) for Laurussia and Gondwana. To fit Wegner s Pangea reconstruction, the APWPs suggest a substantial crustal overlap and shearing (Domeier et al., 2012). This paper looks to review proposed alternative reconstructions for Pangea, using paleomagnetic data as the quantifiable method for determining the supercontinent s location. Paleomagnetic data as evidence for Plate Tectonics Paleomagnetism is the study of earth s magnetic field as preserved in the magnetic orientation of certain minerals. Social And Environmental Impacts Of Latin America The social and environmental impacts of development in Latin America are closely tied together, and while they affect everyone it seems that the brunt of it is felt by indigenous and the so called peasants of Latin America. The environmental and social impacts work in tandem to further oppress Indigenous people who have faced oppression since the Spanish first landed on their shores. Land continues to be taken from them and MNCs, foreign interests, and even their own governments have deteriorated the quality of the land that they still possess due to exploitation. This is particularly prevalent in countries such as Ecuador, which have a long history of reliance on primary commodity exports. In Ecuador the oil industry is one that began its domination in the 1970s, of which massive plots of land were contracted to Texaco Golf, roughly 1.431 million hectares in the Oriente area (Rochlin, 14) After numerous spills occurred in the area a local NGO stepped in and started a lawsuit against Texaco Chevron for what they called indigenous cultural destruction . Our previous studies have found that Cn evolves a cryptococcal intersectin (Cin1) regulated endocytic pathway essential for growth and virulence. We have also obtained evidence linking Cin1 to extracellular RNA through RNA Seq and to CNS survival through co infection of a mouse model of cryptococcosis. Aim 2 is to examine the role of Cin1 in exRNA export through continued annotation and analysis of RNA Seq data. Aim 3 is to further explore the CNS survival advantage of Cin1 S by generating the Cin1 L strain using one step CRISPR Cas9 mutagenesis method we recently developed and testing it through co infection. Our central hypothesis is that intracellular trafficking is important in pathogen growth and interaction with a host resulting pathogenesis (our long term goal). Later on in 1920, trading posts were established, this completely changed their economy, for instead of white fox fur trapping and trade, the Netsilik now would trade for additional items made by non natives, including woolen clothing, tobacco, steel traps, fishing nets, canoes, tea, and canvas tents (Netsilik, n.d).
