Effects Of Emancipation Laws
Emancipation is a legal procedure where a minor can become freed from their legal guardian under
circumstances. The minor becomes responsible for themselves financially and otherwise and can no
longer depend on anyone else. A minor can become emancipated one of two ways; through a court
order or without legal declaration but with guardians permission. Emancipation laws can differ
depending on the state. Diamond v. Diamond demonstrates the court process in which a minor took to
become emancipated from her mother due to domestic violence and substance abuse issues; this case
presented the Supreme Court an issue of first impression (Diamond v. Diamond, Justia US Law) Legal
effect of emancipation under the Act Section 32A 21 5 includes: ... Show more content on

Diamond contains the order of emancipation of Jhette Diamond from her mother, Adrienne Diamond
taking place in the state of New Mexico. Jhette Diamond had miraculously been living without any
support from her own mother since the age of thirteen. Jhette got her first job at the age of eleven at a
restaurant as a server and busser while keeping a high grade point average throughout high school
(being a sophomore at the time of emancipation). Counsel described her as thriving and focused on
her future. Jhette initially moved out of her mother s home due to domestic violence and substance
abuse. Jhette claims that such actions had been triggered by the man her mother had maintained a
relationship with. Since the court found that Jhette had been living independently and managing her
own financial affairs an order of emancipation was ruled. It was known to be a classic case of
emancipation. Jhette asked the court if the order of emancipation could be styled to reserve her right to
receive financial support from her mother since she had not been at all financially supported before
nor after she had left home. The court agreed as counsel provided that the Act (New Mexico
Emancipation of Minors Act) authorized the court to do so for the one or more purposes brought forth.
The mother had then come in recognition of the order of emancipation and files a pro se motion to set
aside the declaration because she had received no notice of the proceedings that took and

African American Literature Course Analysis
A child is a product of their environment. However, the label granted to the child is designated by the
community and society in which the child inhabits. I, myself, am the product of a predominantly
White society. The transparency and colorless pigment of the of the people that surrounded me was a
blessing, but also a curse. I took refuge in the water downed, flavorless editions of Civil Rights stories
I was told, and for eighteen years, it seemed that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks were the
only valid Civil Rights Movement Advocates. Although my knowledge of African American culture
and history was fragmented and distorted as a child and young adolescent, the studies and in depth
discusses of my Introduction to African American Literature class awaken an understanding and
heartfelt appreciation within me that I will forever treasure and utilize to analyze the struggles that
African Americans continue to have for political, social and economic advancement.
The renowned singer and musician, Bob Marley, quoted, In this future, you can t forget your past.

Why I Know What Evidence Is Used For, And Why It Is...
Learning Target
I know what evidence is, what it is used for, and why it is important.
I can read a nonfiction article and determine the central idea of the text, and how that central idea is
conveyed in the text.
I can know how to use the R.A.C.E. strategy to respond to a constructed response question.
I can use the Georgia Milestone Seven Point Two Trait Rubric to evaluate and score multiple good and
bad examples of informative/ explanatory constructed response question responses.

The Plan For Eden Bay
When I was first approached to research possible systems for the fleet, I knew it was going to be a
massive under taking. I had no guide, just a few questions from Dawn about how the recommended
system would address certain issues. There were countless hours of research looking at each possible
program, weighting the pros and cons of each, and then final reaching a conclusion to which system to
recommend for Eden Bay. Each of the fleet repair systems are good, solid programs, however there is
only one which I believe would suit the needs of Eden Bay. I found a few different options at
beginning of my research and I slowly began to review each product. Several of the systems were
thrown out early on, some because the cost was of the program was running too high, or I thought the
system was not user friendly, or even because I thought product just would not benefit Eden Bay in the
long term. While I liked many of the systems, it ultimately came down to three programs: The Fleet
Maintenance Pro by Innovative Maintenance Systems, the Desktop Enterprise Edition by Manager
Plus or Merchants Fleet Program. When it came time to make my decision, the Fleet Maintience Pro
stood out above the rest.
My first step was to do a general search online of fleet software to see what I could discover. After the
search, I narrowed it down to six systems to investigate. Using the main search results, I then did a
cusitorty look around the websites for each of the six main software programs.

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas By John Boyne
A Journey Through the Eyes of a Jew and a Pole When exploring beyond nature, things can be
surprisingly amazing through interesting ways. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne tells
the story of a boy named Bruno who moves to a new home in Auschwitz and finds himself lonely
without friends. Later in the story, Bruno notices a fence out of his window far beyond his new home.
He is told not to explore the fence by his parents, but disobeys them and explores the fence when no
one was watching him. Bruno comes across a boy on the other side of the fence named Shmuel
wearing striped pajamas. Bruno introduces himself while not understanding why he is on the other
side of the fence. The meeting of the boys tells two stories through the eyes of a Jew and a Pole during
an isolated time. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas can teach lessons in humanity such as
discrimination, friendship, and confinement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas demonstrates that Jews were mainly discriminated and targeted. On
page 148, it says, Lieutenant Kotler grew very angry with Pavel and no one not Bruno, not Gretel, not
Mother and not even Father stepped in to stop him doing what he did next, even though none of them
could watch. Lieutenant Kotler had done some horrendous actions to Pavel, the Jewish waiter, after
accidentally spilling wine on Kotler s lap. During this time of war, Jews were not considered as people
and were tortured and killed because of their race and religion. Discrimination among races still
occurs today and often violence is involved. Although discrimination still occurs, it teaches that
people can learn from these mistakes and correct it. However, Bruno and Shmuel did not let the
differences of their race affect their friendship as a German and a

Karl Popper The Enemy Of Certainty Analysis
In the three part informative bibliography Karl Popper, the enemy of certainty, published by The
Guardian, scientist and philosopher Karl Popper s perspective on science is identified and discussed.
Author Liz Williams describes how Karl Popper was driven by a passion for learning and
understanding the world around him, and eventually grew to reject the ideas of empiricism and
positivism. Popper states that deductive reasoning, rather than inductive reasoning, should be used to
evaluate a theory based on the idea that proving a theory false provides a stronger argument compared
to proving a theory true. Popper also argues that theories cannot be considered scientific theories
unless they are able to be proven false, or are falsifiable. They must be able to be tested, and have the
ability to be proven false through those tests, before it can be considered a scientific theory. Popper
argues that scientific revolutions come about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Popper s scientific philosophy was solely based on truth, based on the idea that new scientific theories
are generated when old scientific theories are proven to be false; he states that in order for a theory to
be scientific, it must be falsifiable. On the other hand, Kuhn s philosophy was based on thought, and
how scientist s collective thoughts and theories change as concepts and practices change with time.
These two individuals have directly opposing philosophies truth versus thought. Finally, Lakatos
scientific philosophy acts as a happy medium between the two, describing science and scientific
revolutions as both truth and thought, although he did emphasize that truth may be a more reliable
factor. Whether it be truth, or thought, or both behind the changes in science over time, it does not
change the fact that scientific revolutions happen, and that they will continue to happen throughout the

Self Change Program (Behaviour modification) Essay
Behaviour Modification
A Self Control Program for Smoking Cessation
Christine Chambers
Trent University
Introduction
The behaviour modified for this self directed behaviour change project is smoking. Smoking was
selected as the behaviour I wish to change because it is known that tobacco use is the leading cause of
premature, preventable death and disease (Edwards, Bondy, Callaghan, Mann, 2014). Smoking is a
behaviour that has been recently initiated; I started smoking occasionally in August 2013 (one
cigarette a few times a week) and intended to buy only the one pack. However over a period of several
months, my smoking has increased. The rationale for this choosing this target behaviour is that it is
still a relatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Self Directed Intervention Method
The initial phase of the self directed intervention consisted of baseline measurement of smoking
behaviour. Baseline data was collected for a period of 7 weeks and a functional assessment was
completed during this time. Upon starting the intervention phase, the final target behaviour of
smoking cessation was broken down into smaller, short term objectives lasting 2 weeks each.
Functional assessment revealed that smoking behaviour was often preceded by a busy or stressful
environment (antecedent) and that mood and/or anxiety levels functioned as establishing operations
for smoking behaviour (smoking was often preceded by higher anxiety rating or lower mood rating).
As well, the functional assessment revealed that smoking behaviour was maintained by positive
sensory stimulation (the experience of a slight buzz when smoking) and by temporary
escape/distraction from a demanding environment. Based on assessment results, the intervention phase
consisted of a reinforcement schedule that provided rewards for changing criterion levels for smoking
behaviour. The initial criterion was determined by calculating the mean number of cigarettes smoked
per day during the baseline period. Each criterion level (or short term objective) lasted for a two week
period before changing the criterion level again. The timeline for baseline, intervention, maintenance
phases are outlined in table 1. The initial intervention selected was a

Pheromone Paper
A pheromone is defined as a substance that causes a response in a natural behavioral response in
another animal of the same species. There are an abundant amount of pheromones presently. For
instance the alarm pheromones sex pheromones, food trail pheromones, and many others that affect
behavior. Pheromonal use among insects has been well documented, even though many plants and
vertebrates communicate using pheromones.
Pheromones are believed to be found throughout the world and have been traced back to the most
ancient form of animal communication. For example the word pheromones originated from the
Roman culture because it was believed soldiers had this intoxicating scent that attracted women. Yet in
fact it was the heavy musky smell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientific studies have now shown that women are equally affected by pheromones from both sexes.
Women who usually experience short or long menstrual cycles get somewhat closer cycles after
regularly inhaling male essence which has been described as a certain amount of body odor, sweat,
and hormones. Females who have been exposed to other female pheromones for certain durations of
time whether it is months or years tend to have experienced relatively insync menstruated cycles after
few months. This study has confirmed a long disputed theory that females no matter what race or
relation menstruate at coinciding times. Over the last couple of decades pheromones have been
documented in over hundreds if not thousands of types of animals and insects. Yet, in most cases
particularly mammals there is an organ specialized in detection located in the inner parts of the nose or
inside the oral cavity. This organ is sometimes called the vomeronasal organ or when used around
scientists the VNO organ. There has been an abundance of evidence that say that human pheromones
really do exist. For example a newborn would preferably want a piece of clothing worn by its parents
or more so the mother because the pheromones of the mother is what the baby has known since the
beginning of its life. New experimental research suggests that both human

Lessons Learned In The True American
While reading the freshman reader The True American, I discovered that we all could take away some
important lessons from this book. This book is filled with many different lessons we all could learn,
but it just depends on how you comprehend it. The first lesson I believe people can learn is that even if
you get hurt by someone doesn t mean you should want them to suffer. I think this lesson is important
because to many people today always wants karma to happen to others, once they have done
something to them. Another lesson I think people can learn from this book is never change your
feelings about yourself and who you are. These lessons are just a couple of the lessons found in The
True American. People always seem to think that because

Plains Indians And Their Equine Companions
Plains Indians and Their Equine Companions Most history classes teach children about how the
Spanish brought horses to America and introduced them to Native Americans. That s usually the end
of the story. What s not talked about is the Native peoples reactions to these beasts of nature. How did
they feel about horses? What did they think of them? How did Native people become some of the best
riders? How did they tame wild horses? How were horses incorporated into their culture? How much
of an impact did horses really have on Native American culture? These are the questions that aren t
answered in textbooks in schools. What I wish to explore is the bond between Native people and their
equine companions. I want to explore how their world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The differences between these two classifications of tribes is that the nomadic groups followed the
buffalo as they migrated. With the semi sedentary groups, they too hunted for buffalo, but they also
engaged in building villages and participating more in agriculture (New World Encyclopedia). Life
was livable in the plains, but it wasn t always the easiest. It wasn t until the arrival of the horse that
life and culture among the Plains Indians truly flourished. The story of how horses came to present
day USA has always been a very short story. The most we get is that the Spanish brought them, and
that was usually the end of it. How did Native people react when they first saw horses? How would
we react today if a brand new animal was introduced into America, and we knew nothing about it?
Some people may fear the animal or even try to destroy it out of fear. Just as we would be afraid today,
the same feelings of terror swept through the Native people of the Great Plains. In the islands of the
Caribbean, Taíno people were the first to see the horse, and the sight inspired fear animal fused to

in a supreme being who is the guider of the human beings and oversee the adherence of concepts like
dharma, karma, and truth. They also believe in the authority of the Vedas which is the sacred

The other use of the caste structure is that it defines the social rank of a person. This is because it does
not recognize the wealth, power and poverty level of an individual. This guides him to pursue his
obligations as it set all the people to be equal at birth. This makes an individual to take all the other
human being to be equal as they do not involve their social power and wealth to judge others. The
other use of the caste arrangement is that can provide mental safety to an individual. Through it, an
individual has to know what public life he can follow as he has the information of the place he to
marries. This defies the kind of social life that person has to live so that he can meet the expectations.
Caste can also help an individual to make a selection of his occupation. This is because the person is
offered with the right occupation he should follow from birth. He is then guided to see that he
achieves what is required in that occupation. With the use of the caste, an individual can be in a
position to select a life partner. This is because it has set the guidelines of endogamy thus the
individual has to join in matrimony within his personal class or the sub caste. This is because the
selection of the mates is based on the caste rules. The caste system as well determines the actions of an
individual. This is because it operates on a set of codes ad guidelines which guide each individual. The
use of the status structure governs the way people

Hobbes Social Contract Essay
The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political
philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas
Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern was
how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712
1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the civil state
produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his conduct. In other
words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society they are corrupted.
Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very divergent views. This paper
will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later conclude why Hobbes has a more
feasible hypothesis.
In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no letters;
no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man,
solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with precautions as
they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly threatened since
we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that incline men to peace
are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to

Suv And Crossover Vehicles Of Cars
SUV and Crossover vehicles are starting to take over the US car market. 2016 is the year of the SUV
and pickup truck. Each month the car sales share of the market slips a bit (NPR, 2016). This means
that sales of your average car are starting to slip. If you pay attention while driving down the road you
may notice this. I believe there are several reasons why this is starting to be the case. SUVs and
Crossover vehicles sit higher than an average commuter or luxury car. They tend to have more space
inside for passengers and cargo. They are starting to rival the fuel economy of cars. Four wheel drive
is a feature available to all of them. Now before I get started I said SUVs and Crossovers. While these
two types of vehicles are broadly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true if a person has to commute long distances to work. A new study by
TrueCar.com finds tooling around in a small SUV is no longer that wasteful. The sales weighted fuel
economy average is only 2 miles per gallon apart (26.83 mpg SUV vs. 28.84 mpg sedan) SUV owners
typically will pay only another $3 more tankful to fill up their SUV compared to a sedan. (USA Today,
2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures like Nissan and RAM
Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order to gain fuel economy
without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29 MPG with their small diesel
(I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan engine). So it is likely fair to assume that
it is only a matter of time before traditional SUVs get engines of that type. Height is also an apparent
factor in the purchase of these vehicles. People reportedly like the fact that they sit higher than an
average car. It gives people the feeling that they have command of the road . As someone that drives a
full size truck I can confirm that being able to see over the car(s) in front of you does give you a
certain commanding feeling. Driving a low sitting sedan just feels like you are dragging your backside
across the pavement. However I think there may be more to the height factor.

The Red Guard Movement Essay
The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish.
The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they
belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political
turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and
ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a
helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No
matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common
enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard
movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder,
2009).
The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the lack
of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap Forward,
which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution (Meisner,
1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the
creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). The
second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education, leading up to

Never Enough Summary
The documentary that I chose to watch this time around was Kelly Anderson s 2010 short Never

conventions that we have gone over in class, including formal interview and fly on the wall style
footage. It centers on three self proclaimed collectors and their hard journey to cleaning up their act.
Each of the three hoarders is guided in their endeavors by a man named Ron Alford. Alford is the

people in need of help organizing, and assist in cleaning up and downsizing. Throughout the film, you

That deeper purpose is to turn the spotlight on American consumerism and the rampant materialism
that runs so many Western lives. This can be seen with the two men that are profiled in the film, David
Guess and Jay Helfenbein. Both men have troubles with constant purchasing of goods. David is a
sucker for a good bargain, and as such fills his house and garage with goods that he s found on sale.
Guess openly admits that one of the reason he is constantly making purchases is because buys things
makes him feel good and allows him to feel of a certain social standing because of his ability for
consumerism. Jay, on the other hand, is addicted to home shopping channels and his New York
apartment is filled with QVC boxes that, after having been opening, are left abandoned in towers. One
of the reasons he is presumed to be so addicted is because of the feelings of fulfilment he gets from
speaking with the operators who know him and his profile so well. This shines a much needed light on
American hyper consumerism and the affects, like hoarding, that such a thing can have on people. For
these men, and to some extent Michele, being surrounded by the things they have bought and
collected is the best feeling in the world for

Guilt in Fifth Business by Robertson Davies
Guilt is the regret one experiences when they realise their action was not appropriate according to a
lawful or moral standard. In Fifth Business, by Robertson Davies, guilt was a major theme and was
essential throughout the novel. Davies used the three main characters, Dunstan Ramsay, Boy Staunton,
and Paul Dempster to illustrate the different effects of Mrs. Dempster s incident. The way one is
raised, the key disciplines they have developed and their way of thinking reflects how they deal with
guilt.
Boy Staunton was illustrated to have an interesting attitude. Through the lack of his morals and
principles he felt no guilt after the incident. I threw a snowball at you, and I guess it gave you a good
smack (Robertson Davies, pg. 27.) Boy took no responsibility over his action and blatantly denied the
guilt. Another example that displayed Boy s insensitiveness was when he was involved in a sexual act
with Mabel, a student at his school, at a time period when he was in a relationship with Leola. His
father played a major role in that situation as he bribed Mabel s mother to not involve the authorities.
Boy never apologized or showed discomfort in any way. Lastly, he cheated on Leola, after their
marriage. Leola found a note from one of his admirers and in return Boy stated, There s no reason to
carry on like that, but if you think I intend to be tied down to this sort of thing, you can think again
(pg.178.) Boy was illustrated as quite successful wealth wise, however

Salvation in Judaism on the other hand is attained through adhering to the Ten Commandments that
were given to Moses and passed on to the Israelites. Judaist communicates to God through dialogue
that is achieved by several traditions and rituals that are continuous. Sacrifices are also made to
appease an angry God. Moreover, according to Christian religion, since man inherited the sins of
Adam, they are by nature evil. Despite the fact that people know right and evil, by choosing to do the
right thing they do not become righteous. They are only transformed into righteousness by accepting
the transforming grace of Christ. Judaists on the other hand believe that is man has been given the
freedom of choice. They are thus responsible for their actions whether good or bad. A person should

that have been put in place (Chilton 2012). For instance, the Jews hold a ceremony every year where
they pray and fast to gain forgiveness. People who participate in this ceremony are written in the book

Jesus is the only one who can see through a person deeds and read the nature of their hearts. No man

Expanding into E-Commerce
Expanding into E Commerce
Off the Boardwalk and into the World Wide Web:
A Four Point Analysis
1) The purpose of this section if to provide a SWOT analysis for a small, local clothing store on the
New Jersey Boardwalk looking to transition into the online market place. Any boutique clothing store
like the one provided has many strengths. The company s unique style helps differentiate it from its
competitors. In addition, the company is small and flexible which enables it to employ different
talents, ranging from domestic to international, to meet their project needs (Pinker, 2002). Of course,
any such company has its weaknesses. The company is a local clothing store which means it is
dependent on its manufacturers and variations in material and labor costs of third parties producers.
Another problem that any small clothing store faces is coming up with new innovative ideas that fit to
mass customization for their customers (Alexander, et al., 2003). Any small, local company looking to
expand into the online market place also has numerous opportunities. Their business currently comes
from customers walking up and down the boardwalk which has a limited season. By expanding to the
internet, they will dramatically increase the number of customers exposed to their merchandize on a
global scale. Mass production by the company will allow customers to get what they want but dilute
their individual uniqueness (Pinker, 2002). Lastly, by orienting their sales to the online

Summary Of Anne Frank The Diary Of A Young Girl
How would you react if your family was loathed by both the government and neighboring citizens
simply because of your religion? What if you were ordered to work at a German labor camp, and if
you didn t, there would be serious consequences? In the diary, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl
by Anne Frank, Anne and her family go through the same exact situation but they choose to go into
hiding instead of fleeing the German occupied country. All of the characters, the setting, and the theme
depicted on what would come in the near future. Anne and her family also go through unexpected
daily situations that not only affect them as a whole, but stands as a place in Anne s heart. The
characters were an extraordinarily significant aspect of how the story would turn out in the end. Anne,
her family, the van Daan family, and Albert Dussel went into hiding at the Secret Annex. Anne was
particularly attached to her father, Otto, because she felt he was always there for him. ¨I model myself
after Father, and there s no one in the world I love more. He doesn t realize that he treats Margot
differently than he does me: Margot just happens to be the smartest, the kindest, the prettiest and the
best. But I have a right to be taken seriously too, (10 30 1943). She explained that her father had great
sympathy towards her, but she wanted to be perceived as an adult too. There were also residents she

A Lecture On Civil Rights
In Unit 2 lecture on Civil Rights, I learned there are implemented parameters of laws discriminating
against specific groups. (Unit 2 Lecture 1 Video) The Equal Protection CClause fought to end public
discrimination, prohibiting states from denying any person the equal protection of the law. (Gateways
to Democracy, p. 150) Courts decide whether laws or actions violate this clause by determining the
government s reason for passing such a law and the connection to the specific classification. There are
three different tests used with three different levels of scrutiny, depending on the classification in
question; in descending order, these three are the Strict Scrutiny Test, Intermediate Scrutiny, and
Rational Basis test. The level of scrutiny depends on the group s classification. Depending upon the
group whose right has been violated, the Court sets different standards of how closely it will scrutinize
the law alleged to violate equal protection. (Gateway to Democracy, p. 151) Strict Scrutiny is used
immediately when involving race, national origin, religion, or alienage. The classification in regard to
this is called Suspect classifications. Suspect classifications are classes that if discriminated by the
government, are deemed unconstitutional; this classification includes a group s religion, alienage,
race, and national origin. In Skinner v. Oklahoma, the Supreme Court presented strict scrutiny as a
means of preventing invidious discrimination that subjected

3 March 2017 Are Single sex schools better?
Recently single sex schools have made a comeback, and this has raised the question of whether they
are better than coeducational schools. In single sex educational systems, male and female students are
separated and taught in different school buildings or classrooms. In a historical point of view, only
boys were given the opportunity to pursue formal education in the United States. Schools for women
began to spread in the beginning of the nineteenth century, almost one hundred years before they were
granted the right to vote. By the end of the twentieth century coeducational schooling had reached all

Advocates state that students can achieve greater academic success once taught separately, especially
girls. According to Leonard Sax, psychologist and founder of the National Association for the
Advancement of Single Sex Public Education, Single sex education works better. Kids who attend
single sex schools not only do better academically but also have a better attitude toward school and a
better outlook on life. He also argues that placing them in separate classrooms wouldn t accomplish as
much as separate schools, (NASSE). Sax believes that boys learn differently than girls and take more
time to develop. He uses research about brain maturation, hearing, vision and temperature sensitivity
to support his claim, and argues that boys typically receive more attention from teachers and have less
chances of harassment, and at often times very distracting. He points out, What we re doing right now
pretending that gender doesn t matter is not working, he says. We are losing ground.
The effects can be minor, for example, studies have indicated girls perform better when the classroom
temperature is warm, while boys perform better in cooler temperatures. More considerable effects
include higher test scores. In the journal, Single sex Education: What Does Research Tell Us?,
published in The Economic and Social Research Institute, on July of 2010, author Emer Smyth reports
girls were more likely to obtain higher grades in

The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Immigration
Where did immigration start? Why did immigration start? Was immigration encouraged by our
government? What were the positive and negative impacts of immigration? Immigration has been
occurring for many years. Throughout history immigrating to different lands was very common.
During the early 1800s through the early 1900s, nearly 30 million foreigners were arriving in the
United States. In the late 1800s in a single year close to 400,000 immigrants arrived. During this time
the immigrants were helping shape America by supplying labor and industrialization. When people
were first migrating to North America as this country was getting started, the American people had a
very narrow mindset, therefore, as people from other countries migrated to the U.S. little by little the
country was broadened. The country was broadened along with the American people, their laws and
foreign peoples perspective of America. As the perspectives of foreign people changed migration to
America was encouraged.
First, before America was bound to begin: The Native Americans were here in North America first,
then the Europeans settlers came to this land and were taken from the natives. Many injustices have
occurred in history but this is how America was shaped to be the country it is now. Therefore, it can be
viewed in two different was in a positive and a negative way. For example, it can be positive because
through our past events in history we were able to become the country we are today. Although

Manipulation And Jealousy In Shakespeare s Othello
In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare introduces the theme of manipulation,
jealousy, and villainy. The play revolves mainly around the two characters Iago and Othello and their
relationships with each other and their close ones. Before inspecting the hidden motives of Iago s plot
to sever Othello of his relationship with Desdemona, one must inspect Shakespeare s reason to include
Iago in the play. The key to unlock all doors in Othello might lie in the behavioral attitude of Iago
through the perspective of the famous philosopher and writer of Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes. Thomas
Hobbes was a 17th century English philosopher who received the majority of his philosophical views
from the English Civil War a war that created a large amount of bloodshed and economic downfall.
Hobbes, who was a peaceful thinker and despised the concept of violence of any kind, decided to cast
his views into the book Leviathan, which describes the concept of man obeying any sort of
government that would prevent brutal bloodshed and chaos, even an imperfect government, ... Show

Roderigo became the beast of himself when he could not suppress the desire of stealing Desdemona

Emilia, Roderigo, Brabantio, and Othello. With the death of all these people, the one person that is not
mentioned to be dead and could possibly still be alive is Iago. Iago s survival serves as a symbol of

Definition Of Good Faith Under English Contract Law
There is no general definition of good faith under English contract law; it is generally a presumption
that two parties will act honestly and fairly with one another. Unlike other systems of law, such as the
French Civil Code, English contract law does not recognise the obligation of good faith . Instead there
is more of a negative obligation not to tell lies rather than a positive obligation to tell the truth and act
in good faith. However recent cases such as Yam Seng PTE Ltd v International Trade Corporation
Limited have shown that the courts attitudes towards good faith have been developing and changing.
Now it may be possible to imply a term of good faith in a contract. Therefore, where traditionally
there has been a negative obligation not to tell lies, English contract law may be slowly moving
towards an obligation of good faith.
There is no obligation within the English contract law to act in good faith in keeping with the
principles of freedom of contract and the binding force of contract . Richard Stone and James
Devenney identified two of the reasons why this is so, freedom of contract as one of the reasons
because a positive obligation would have not sat easily with the archetype of a contract where two
parties of equal bargaining power where free to ask whichever questions seemed important. The
argument is that if one of the parties wants to ask something relevant to negotiations then they have
the freedom to and the party cannot lie; however the

ABSTRACT: According to the report given by World Health Organization, by 2015 almost 20 million
people will die from cardiovascular diseases (CVD). People in low and middle income countries who
suffer from CVDs and other noncommunicable diseases have less access to effective and equitable
health care services which respond to their needs. The main objective of this work is to develop a
classifier for the diagnosis of abnormal Common Carotid Arteries (CCA). This paper proposes a new
approach for the transform domain analysis of longitudinal B mode ultrasound CCA images using
Multiwavelets. Analysis is done using HM and GHM multiwavelets at various levels of
decomposition. Multiwavelet preserves high frequency information in image and provides good
energy compaction efficiency. Energy values of the coefficients of approximation, horizontal, vertical
and diagonal details are calculated and plotted for different levels. Plots of energy values show high
correlation with the abnormalities of CCA and offer the possibility of improved diagnosis of CVD. It
is clear that the energy values can be used as an index of individual

famous for his rapping. It was a lot to handle at one time for the children. He tells his daughters to:
Straighten up little soldier stiffen up that upper lip. He s telling them to be strong and that everything
will be okay someday. ( Eminem Mockingbird. ) Now, let s consider the second verse of the song. He
tells of a story where one Christmas he had no money to buy presents for his daughters. He had to
keep food on the table instead. Eminem and Kim (his wife) tried to start a college savings for their
daughters, but every time they tried saving up, their house always got broken into. Life got worse, and
they both eventually moved out. Eminem was starting to get famous for his CD, and he had to start
working for his rap career, distancing himself even further from his daughters. He is sorry that his kids
had to go through this. He only wanted to make a good image for them. Now he is all alone in a house
remembering the past of them. He finally reminds his daughters that Mom will not be gone long. (

consciousness been posited as negative, a corrupt bulwark of the last dying days of Communism in
Eastern Europe, barren and silent. The other Germany to its West, its citizens free, was striding
confidently ahead into the millennium. Recent cinema has sought to examine re unification, the

Goodbye Lenin! (2003) appropriates the individual as bound to his environment, threaded, through
strong cultural codes, to his neighbour. Regardless of the system, communist or capitalist, and though
our goals may deviate, we are all pursuing happiness and comfort, the tools used to attain this products
of that society. That said, it is immediately legible whereabouts Becker wishes us to view the East
German state as wholly negative, and he does this through several key scenes.
At the film s opening, we learn of the first East German shot into space, surely an apotheosis of what a
state can achieve, its grasp extending to the stars. But behind the curtain of this vast achievement we
can see how it is brought about through the utter bending of citizens to the states will. Alex s mother
Christiane, who we first assume the innocent of the piece, is interrogated by the Stasi for her husband
has fled the country. We learn he was unable to live with a state he detested, the ordeal of the
interrogation so testing for Christiane it sends her into a coma. Her husband and the children?s father
absent, she finds a kinship with the state, now one of its most vociferous supporters. The absence of
the father is particularly imbued with purpose. Later, Becker seeks to equate the death of communism
with the return of the father for the two are so inextricably connected. Only when the German
Democratic Republic (GDR) is laid to rest can this dark chapter

Analysis Of The Movie Monty Python And The Holy Grail
In class, we watched the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail . This movie is set in the time of the
middle ages (roughly 476 1453). It follows King Arthur and his knights as they search for the Holy
Grail. They look for the Holy Grail after they are told to by God. The movie at first may seem like
nonsense and a silly parody, but in reality, Monty Python and the Holy Grail demonstrates the truth of
the Middle Ages, feudal hierarchy, and other topics we have discussed in class.
In the Middle Ages, the Church was one of the most powerful forces. It was a very important part of
the people s culture and was a unifying force for them. It gave people a common belief, protection and
a sense of safety in a time of war. Many people relied on it to receive sacraments and go to heaven,
especially peasants because that was about all they had going for them. The Church and it s matters
were taken seriously and they maintained power throughout the Middle Ages. In the movie, the power
of the church is shown in many scenes. For example, in the scene where King Arthur and his knights
are trying to get into the cave but the rabbit is stopping them, they call in the priests to give them the
Holy Hand Grenade . The priests take it very seriously and tell Arthur very specific instructions for it.
He activates it and blows up the rabbit they are able to enter the cave. This shows that they believed
that the church and God had the most power and the power to do anything. In a time of need, they
turned to the Church.
The feudal system was the method of government that was used in the Middle Ages. The feudal
pyramid consisted of four levels, King at the top, Church Official and Nobles/Lords next, then
Knights, and peasants at the bottom. The King had the most power, the nobles were sometimes vassals
to the king, knights fought in the king s army, and peasants worked in the field all day and were very
poor. In one scene of the movie, peasants are seen working in the fields. They are very dirty and have
bad quality clothing which shows how little money and power they had compared to King Arthur, who
had fancy clothing and did not have to work. King Arthur then asks the peasants who their lord is,
which shows how lords or vassals

The Importance Of Design In Nature
Every particle in nature represents the complex, and intricate structure of the universe. The human
body alone undergoes many different processes per second, and yet, is able to do so almost without
error. It s almost undeniable that there is design in nature, however, many question whether or not this
design just came about or if it implies that a designer exists. Science and religion attempt to explain
design in nature in a much different context, and seem to be in conflict with one another about the
existence of a designer. Arguably, I believe that there is a loophole, in which both science and religion
can be integrated as one, and can function together to explain design in nature. Beginning with the Big
Bang, and Creationism to Evolution, and design in nature, religion provides science with answers and
vice versa. God is not the sole worker in nature, nor is he the supreme power, but he allows for natural
processes to take their course. Academics from a vast range of fields can all agree that there is design
in nature, meaning that nature doesn t consist of random things thrown together without a purpose.
Instead, almost everything in nature is intricately designed to achieve certain tasks. Design in nature
can be compared to a jigsaw puzzle in the sense that each piece is designed to fit another piece, and
they match up perfectly. For example, when our DNA goes through the replication process, an error is
made at approximately every one hundred thousand nucleotide.

Youth And Youth Subcultures
Adolescence is the physiological developmental period between childhood and adulthood, known to
be a turbulent time of self exploration and discovery. Hall (1904) described adolescence as a period of
storm and stress associated with mood disruptions, parental conflict and risky behaviours. Similarly,
youth is a socially constructed phase, not defined by age or physical development, but rather specific
progressive phases and transitions. Youth fall between the full dependence of childhood and
independence of adulthood, described as partially dependent individuals that are in a phase of self
exploration and development of identity (Furlong, 2013). Youth transitions are best viewed as a
process of identity development where young people draw on a range of influences, experiences and
relationships in the formation of their identity (Stokes Wyn, 2007). Modern youth transitions have
seen an increased emergence of subjectivities in identity construction outside of inherited
characteristics. Perceived more as an ongoing process of integrating influences and experiences
through conscious action and self reflection (Stokes Wyn, 2007). Due to the distinct lifestyles
associated with youth there is an important cultural dimension associated with youth transitions.
Formation of different youth subcultures are a reflection of distinct styles, behaviours and interests
adopted by young people (Furlong, 2013). The film Hey Hey, its Esther Blue burger (2008)

Biomass And Renewable Sources Of Energy
Executive summary
Biomass has become one of the most commonly used renewable sources of energy in the last two
decades. Many of the biomass fuels used today come in the form of wood products, dried vegetation,
crop residues, and aquatic plants. It is such a widely utilized source of energy, probably due to its low
cost and indigenous nature, that it accounts for almost 14% of the world s total energy supply and as
much as 35% in developing countries, mostly for cooking and heating. The wood from trees is most
common biomass used for energy. It has been used by humans for producing energy for heating and
cooking for a very long time. Biomass cannot replace our current dependence on coal, oil, and natural
gas, but it can complement other renewables such as solar and wind energy. To converted biomass into
usable energy in ways that are more efficient, less polluting, and at least as economical, technological
innovations will be needed. Gasification is considered as a key technology for the use of biomass. In
order to promote this technology in the future, advanced, cost effective, and highly efficient
gasification processes and systems are required. Generally all different types of biomass can be
converted by gasification into syngas mainly comprising hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide
and methane. . From this syngas, all kinds of energy or energy carriers such as heat, power, biofuels,
hydrogen, biomethane and chemicals can be provided.

The Human Eye s Ability
A. Purpose
The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the human eye s ability to detect different colors in
the visible spectrum. In this experiment a red cross is drawn on a plain, white sheet of paper and
placed upon another clean sheet of paper. The student then stares at the red cross for sixty seconds
without taking their eyes off of the cross. Once the sixty seconds pass the sheet of paper with the cross
is quickly removed the clean sheet of paper underneath is visible. A faint blue green cross should be

However, cones are the principal focus of this experiment. To them is attributed both color vision and
the highest visual acuity (HyperPhysics). Current understanding is that the 6 to 7 million cones can be
divided into red cones (64%), green cones (32%), and blue cones (2%) based on measured response
curves (HyperPhysics).
When one type of cone continuously sends the same signal to the brain, the cones hastily become
exhausted. Once one of the three types of cone becomes exhausted, the cone ceases to transmit signals
to the brain. Which causes the brain to assume the cones are tired and holds onto the image. However,
once the top sheet of paper is removed all that is shown is a white sheet of paper and white contains all
light energy. Since the red type cones are nonfunctioning, only the green and blue type cones receive
the wavelengths. This causes the brain to assume the signals it s receiving are a blue green colour
instead of an equal parts red blue green combination, which would form white.
This experiment hopes to show how the human eye detects multiple wavelengths of light, and how the
cones interact the brain. Moreover, the experiment desires to display, not only, how the cones work
individually, but to show how the cones work in unison with each other to produce the colors man
sees. The experiment also hopes to demonstrate the immense complexity contained within the human
eye.

professional level, which is why those involved in the healthcare field should be armed with the
knowledge necessary to make them aware of their rights and responsibilities (Pozgar, 2012). So, it is
very important for me as an administrator to be concerned with the professional conduct at Well Care
Hospital, so that our employees are protected and understand the civil laws that are required of them.
If our staff do not adhere to the standards that this administration has laid out for them, then there
could be major ramifications that result in their compromising on the code of ethics that we have laid
out for them. These effects could be in the form of the court system charging our hospital with
negligence, failure to uphold our duty to care, or failure to provide a safe environment. Any of these
charges could be enforced upon this hospital if our professional staff choose to compromise the
boundaries that we have laid out

Spectrum Disorder. The children s nationalities range in two are Hispanic, two are East Asian, one is
European and one is of African descent. The students primary language is English and their ages range
from 6 ½ 8 yrs. old. The students are all high functioning and they are all verbal. The classroom

support. The supports and services include occupational and physical therapy speech, as well ESL.

When a student completes their workstation task, they get to use the iPad. The students do workstation
twice a day. After workstation, gym, snack, story time, literacy, lunch and special activity follows on
Mondays. This is the typical schedule of the class. The special activity can includes games or exercise
activities that the students can participate in. Fridays are called Fun Fridays because the students get to
watch a movie at the end of the day. Also on Fridays, the occupational therapist pushes in for 30
minutes. She collaborates on a variety of movement activities which include students doing yoga and
meditation. She begins with a warm up where the students stretch. Then she plays music for the
students to listen to and it helps the students to know what the upcoming steps are. Behavioral
problems the students display include throwing themselves on the floor and throwing items. John
exhibits these problems, and he also pushes his work away or he will push the paraprofessional when
he does not get his way or when he feels defeated. Sara bites, slaps, kicks, and squeezes the hands of
adults when they attempt to make her do her work and all she wants to do is use the iPad and play
with her PowerPuff doll. Josie hits herself and bites her fingers when she desires something and she is
not able to attain it. In addition, there are days that Josie will

Pest Control Fort Worth
Winter Pest Control Tips
Homeowner s often ask if continued pest control during the winter is even necessary. The answer is
yes, it is wise to continue pest control throughout the colder winter season, especially in the warmer
climates. During the winter months, insects and rodents want to find warmth and shelter, and this
often means your warm home. While many pests will go dormant during the winter months, others
will seek shelter or migrate south to warmer climates. This is the reason you may see more ants,
roaches and other pests such as rodents during the winter season. With the right prevention, and
professional pest control in Fort Worth you can protect your home from unwanted invaders.

Inspect for rodent nests in seldom used areas that are dark and secluded. This includes garages where
vehicles, motorcycles, ATV s and lawn mowers are kept. Rodents can destroy wiring harnesses in no
time.

dispose of it in the trash.

Native American Perspective on Indian Removal Act
In May 1830, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act which forced Native American tribes to move
west. Some Indians left swiftly, while others were forced to to leave by the United States Army. Some
were even taken away in chains. Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, strongly
reinforced this act. In the Second State of the Union Address, Jackson advocated his Indian Policy.
There was controversy as to whether the removal of the Native Americans was justified under the
administration of President Andrew Jackson. In my personal opinion, as a Native American, the
removal of the tribes was not in any way justified.
The removal of the Native Americans was an egocentric move on Jackson s part. Jackson was only

Jackson felt the removal of the Cherokees from our land was justified because the government was
paying for everything. Money can not compensate for the blood that was shed by our ancestors.
When some Indian tribes did not leave the land, federal troops came to Georgia to remove the tribes
forcibly. Cherokees resisted leaving their land until the bitter finish. Cherokees were marched by
gunpoint which was known as the infamous Trail of Tears. Many died due to the horrid conditions,
including my great grandmother. Any sensible person would have considered the consequences of
these actions. Jackson tried to make the trade seem peaceful and reasonable, but there is nothing sane
about the Trail of Tears. The consequence of a speedy removal will be important to the United States,
and to the Indians themselves (91). If Jackson really cared about our well being, like he claimed, why
would he allow the horrific Trail of Tears to persist? This exhibits Jackson s insincerity and disregard
for the inhuman conditions my ancestors had endure.
A main argument Andrew Jackson had was that the Indian Removal Act was only a continuation of a
change that was already happened, The present policy of the government is but a continuation of the
same progressive change by a milder process (93). He then continued to state how the tribes that
previously occupied the eastern states were annihilated to make room for the whites. This was a

  • 2. Effects Of Emancipation Laws Emancipation is a legal procedure where a minor can become freed from their legal guardian under circumstances. The minor becomes responsible for themselves financially and otherwise and can no longer depend on anyone else. A minor can become emancipated one of two ways; through a court order or without legal declaration but with guardians permission. Emancipation laws can differ depending on the state. Diamond v. Diamond demonstrates the court process in which a minor took to become emancipated from her mother due to domestic violence and substance abuse issues; this case presented the Supreme Court an issue of first impression (Diamond v. Diamond contains the order of emancipation of Jhette Diamond from her mother, Adrienne Diamond taking place in the state of New Mexico. Jhette Diamond had miraculously been living without any support from her own mother since the age of thirteen. Jhette got her first job at the age of eleven at a restaurant as a server and busser while keeping a high grade point average throughout high school (being a sophomore at the time of emancipation). Counsel described her as thriving and focused on her future. Jhette initially moved out of her mother s home due to domestic violence and substance abuse. Jhette claims that such actions had been triggered by the man her mother had maintained a relationship with. Since the court found that Jhette had been living independently and managing her own financial affairs an order of emancipation was ruled. It was known to be a classic case of emancipation. Jhette asked the court if the order of emancipation could be styled to reserve her right to receive financial support from her mother since she had not been at all financially supported before nor after she had left home. The court agreed as counsel provided that the Act (New Mexico Emancipation of Minors Act) authorized the court to do so for the one or more purposes brought forth. The mother had then come in recognition of the order of emancipation and files a pro se motion to set aside the declaration because she had received no notice of the proceedings that took and ... I had no guide, just a few questions from Dawn about how the recommended system would address certain issues. There were countless hours of research looking at each possible program, weighting the pros and cons of each, and then final reaching a conclusion to which system to recommend for Eden Bay. Each of the fleet repair systems are good, solid programs, however there is only one which I believe would suit the needs of Eden Bay. I found a few different options at beginning of my research and I slowly began to review each product. Several of the systems were thrown out early on, some because the cost was of the program was running too high, or I thought the system was not user friendly, or even because I thought product just would not benefit Eden Bay in the long term. While I liked many of the systems, it ultimately came down to three programs: The Fleet Maintenance Pro by Innovative Maintenance Systems, the Desktop Enterprise Edition by Manager Plus or Merchants Fleet Program. When it came time to make my decision, the Fleet Maintience Pro stood out above the rest. My first step was to do a general search online of fleet software to see what I could discover. After the search, I narrowed it down to six systems to investigate. Using the main search results, I then did a cusitorty look around the websites for each of the six main software programs. ... The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne tells the story of a boy named Bruno who moves to a new home in Auschwitz and finds himself lonely without friends. Later in the story, Bruno notices a fence out of his window far beyond his new home. He is told not to explore the fence by his parents, but disobeys them and explores the fence when no one was watching him. Bruno comes across a boy on the other side of the fence named Shmuel wearing striped pajamas. Bruno introduces himself while not understanding why he is on the other side of the fence. Author Liz Williams describes how Karl Popper was driven by a passion for learning and understanding the world around him, and eventually grew to reject the ideas of empiricism and positivism. Popper states that deductive reasoning, rather than inductive reasoning, should be used to evaluate a theory based on the idea that proving a theory false provides a stronger argument compared to proving a theory true. Popper also argues that theories cannot be considered scientific theories unless they are able to be proven false, or are falsifiable. Self Change Program (Behaviour modification) Essay Behaviour Modification A Self Control Program for Smoking Cessation Christine Chambers Trent University Introduction The behaviour modified for this self directed behaviour change project is smoking. Smoking was selected as the behaviour I wish to change because it is known that tobacco use is the leading cause of premature, preventable death and disease (Edwards, Bondy, Callaghan, Mann, 2014). Smoking is a behaviour that has been recently initiated; I started smoking occasionally in August 2013 (one cigarette a few times a week) and intended to buy only the one pack. Self Directed Intervention Method The initial phase of the self directed intervention consisted of baseline measurement of smoking behaviour. Baseline data was collected for a period of 7 weeks and a functional assessment was completed during this time. Upon starting the intervention phase, the final target behaviour of smoking cessation was broken down into smaller, short term objectives lasting 2 weeks each. Functional assessment revealed that smoking behaviour was often preceded by a busy or stressful environment (antecedent) and that mood and/or anxiety levels functioned as establishing operations for smoking behaviour (smoking was often preceded by higher anxiety rating or lower mood rating). As well, the functional assessment revealed that smoking behaviour was maintained by positive sensory stimulation (the experience of a slight buzz when smoking) and by temporary escape/distraction from a demanding environment. Based on assessment results, the intervention phase consisted of a reinforcement schedule that provided rewards for changing criterion levels for smoking behaviour. The initial criterion was determined by calculating the mean number of cigarettes smoked per day during the baseline period. Each criterion level (or short term objective) lasted for a two week period before changing the criterion level again. The timeline for baseline, intervention, maintenance phases are outlined in table 1. The initial intervention selected was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pheromonal use among insects has been well documented, even though many plants and vertebrates communicate using pheromones. Females who have been exposed to other female pheromones for certain durations of time whether it is months or years tend to have experienced relatively insync menstruated cycles after few months. This study has confirmed a long disputed theory that females no matter what race or relation menstruate at coinciding times. Over the last couple of decades pheromones have been documented in over hundreds if not thousands of types of animals and insects. Yet, in most cases particularly mammals there is an organ specialized in detection located in the inner parts of the nose or inside the oral cavity. • 15. Hobbes Social Contract Essay The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern was how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the civil state produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his conduct. In other words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society they are corrupted. Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very divergent views. This paper will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later conclude why Hobbes has a more feasible hypothesis. In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with precautions as they may pose a threat to others survival. Each month the car sales share of the market slips a bit (NPR, 2016). This means that sales of your average car are starting to slip. If you pay attention while driving down the road you may notice this. I believe there are several reasons why this is starting to be the case. SUVs and Crossover vehicles sit higher than an average commuter or luxury car. They tend to have more space inside for passengers and cargo. They are starting to rival the fuel economy of cars. This is especially true if a person has to commute long distances to work. A new study by TrueCar.com finds tooling around in a small SUV is no longer that wasteful. The sales weighted fuel economy average is only 2 miles per gallon apart (26.83 mpg SUV vs. 28.84 mpg sedan) SUV owners typically will pay only another $3 more tankful to fill up their SUV compared to a sedan. (USA Today, 2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures like Nissan and RAM Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order to gain fuel economy without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29 MPG with their small diesel (I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan engine). So it is likely fair to assume that it is only a matter of time before traditional SUVs get engines of that type. Height is also an apparent factor in the purchase of these vehicles. People reportedly like the fact that they sit higher than an average car. It gives people the feeling that they have command of the road . As someone that drives a full size truck I can confirm that being able to see over the car(s) in front of you does give you a certain commanding feeling. Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009). The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution (Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). In Fifth Business, by Robertson Davies, guilt was a major theme and was essential throughout the novel. The way one is raised, the key disciplines they have developed and their way of thinking reflects how they deal with guilt. Boy Staunton was illustrated to have an interesting attitude. Through the lack of his morals and principles he felt no guilt after the incident. I threw a snowball at you, and I guess it gave you a good smack (Robertson Davies, pg. 27.) Any boutique clothing store like the one provided has many strengths. The company s unique style helps differentiate it from its competitors. In addition, the company is small and flexible which enables it to employ different talents, ranging from domestic to international, to meet their project needs (Pinker, 2002). Of course, any such company has its weaknesses. The company is a local clothing store which means it is dependent on its manufacturers and variations in material and labor costs of third parties producers. Another problem that any small clothing store faces is coming up with new innovative ideas that fit to mass customization for their customers (Alexander, et al., 2003). What if you were ordered to work at a German labor camp, and if you didn t, there would be serious consequences? In the diary, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, Anne and her family go through the same exact situation but they choose to go into hiding instead of fleeing the German occupied country. All of the characters, the setting, and the theme depicted on what would come in the near future. Anne and her family also go through unexpected daily situations that not only affect them as a whole, but stands as a place in Anne s heart. The characters were an extraordinarily significant aspect of how the story would turn out in the end. Anne, her family, the van Daan family, and Albert Dussel went into hiding at the Secret Annex. Anne was particularly attached to her father, Otto, because she felt he was always there for him. ¨I model myself after Father, and there s no one in the world I love more. But I have a right to be taken seriously too, (10 30 1943). She explained that her father had great sympathy towards her, but she wanted to be perceived as an adult too. (Unit 2 Lecture 1 Video) The Equal Protection CClause fought to end public discrimination, prohibiting states from denying any person the equal protection of the law. (Gateways to Democracy, p. 150) Courts decide whether laws or actions violate this clause by determining the government s reason for passing such a law and the connection to the specific classification. There are three different tests used with three different levels of scrutiny, depending on the classification in question; in descending order, these three are the Strict Scrutiny Test, Intermediate Scrutiny, and Rational Basis test. The level of scrutiny depends on the group s classification. Depending upon the group whose right has been violated, the Court sets different standards of how closely it will scrutinize the law alleged to violate equal protection. (Gateway to Democracy, p. 151) Strict Scrutiny is used immediately when involving race, national origin, religion, or alienage. The classification in regard to this is called Suspect classifications. Suspect classifications are classes that if discriminated by the government, are deemed unconstitutional; this classification includes a group s religion, alienage, race, and national origin. Recently single sex schools have made a comeback, and this has raised the question of whether they are better than coeducational schools. In single sex educational systems, male and female students are separated and taught in different school buildings or classrooms. In a historical point of view, only boys were given the opportunity to pursue formal education in the United States. He also argues that placing them in separate classrooms wouldn t accomplish as much as separate schools, (NASSE). Sax believes that boys learn differently than girls and take more time to develop. He uses research about brain maturation, hearing, vision and temperature sensitivity to support his claim, and argues that boys typically receive more attention from teachers and have less chances of harassment, and at often times very distracting. He points out, What we re doing right now pretending that gender doesn t matter is not working, he says. We are losing ground. The effects can be minor, for example, studies have indicated girls perform better when the classroom temperature is warm, while boys perform better in cooler temperatures. • 28. The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Immigration Where did immigration start? Why did immigration start? Was immigration encouraged by our government? What were the positive and negative impacts of immigration? Immigration has been occurring for many years. Throughout history immigrating to different lands was very common. During the early 1800s through the early 1900s, nearly 30 million foreigners were arriving in the United States. In the late 1800s in a single year close to 400,000 immigrants arrived. During this time the immigrants were helping shape America by supplying labor and industrialization. When people were first migrating to North America as this country was getting started, the American people had a very narrow mindset, therefore, as people from other countries migrated to the U.S. little by little the country was broadened. The country was broadened along with the American people, their laws and foreign peoples perspective of America. As the perspectives of foreign people changed migration to America was encouraged. First, before America was bound to begin: The Native Americans were here in North America first, then the Europeans settlers came to this land and were taken from the natives. Many injustices have occurred in history but this is how America was shaped to be the country it is now. Therefore, it can be viewed in two different was in a positive and a negative way. The play revolves mainly around the two characters Iago and Othello and their relationships with each other and their close ones. Before inspecting the hidden motives of Iago s plot to sever Othello of his relationship with Desdemona, one must inspect Shakespeare s reason to include Iago in the play. The key to unlock all doors in Othello might lie in the behavioral attitude of Iago through the perspective of the famous philosopher and writer of Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes. Thomas Hobbes was a 17th century English philosopher who received the majority of his philosophical views from the English Civil War a war that created a large amount of bloodshed and economic downfall. • 30. Definition Of Good Faith Under English Contract Law There is no general definition of good faith under English contract law; it is generally a presumption that two parties will act honestly and fairly with one another. Unlike other systems of law, such as the French Civil Code, English contract law does not recognise the obligation of good faith . Instead there is more of a negative obligation not to tell lies rather than a positive obligation to tell the truth and act in good faith. However recent cases such as Yam Seng PTE Ltd v International Trade Corporation Limited have shown that the courts attitudes towards good faith have been developing and changing. Now it may be possible to imply a term of good faith in a contract. Therefore, where traditionally there has been a negative obligation not to tell lies, English contract law may be slowly moving towards an obligation of good faith. There is no obligation within the English contract law to act in good faith in keeping with the principles of freedom of contract and the binding force of contract . Richard Stone and James Devenney identified two of the reasons why this is so, freedom of contract as one of the reasons because a positive obligation would have not sat easily with the archetype of a contract where two parties of equal bargaining power where free to ask whichever questions seemed important. The argument is that if one of the parties wants to ask something relevant to negotiations then they have the freedom to and the party cannot lie; however the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People in low and middle income countries who suffer from CVDs and other noncommunicable diseases have less access to effective and equitable health care services which respond to their needs. The main objective of this work is to develop a classifier for the diagnosis of abnormal Common Carotid Arteries (CCA). This paper proposes a new approach for the transform domain analysis of longitudinal B mode ultrasound CCA images using Multiwavelets. Analysis is done using HM and GHM multiwavelets at various levels of decomposition. Multiwavelet preserves high frequency information in image and provides good energy compaction efficiency. Energy values of the coefficients of approximation, horizontal, vertical and diagonal details are calculated and plotted for different levels. Plots of energy values show high correlation with the abnormalities of CCA and offer the possibility of improved diagnosis of CVD. It is clear that the energy values can be used as an index of individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That said, it is immediately legible whereabouts Becker wishes us to view the East German state as wholly negative, and he does this through several key scenes. At the film s opening, we learn of the first East German shot into space, surely an apotheosis of what a state can achieve, its grasp extending to the stars. But behind the curtain of this vast achievement we can see how it is brought about through the utter bending of citizens to the states will. • 35. Analysis Of The Movie Monty Python And The Holy Grail In class, we watched the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail . This movie is set in the time of the middle ages (roughly 476 1453). It follows King Arthur and his knights as they search for the Holy Grail. They look for the Holy Grail after they are told to by God. The movie at first may seem like nonsense and a silly parody, but in reality, Monty Python and the Holy Grail demonstrates the truth of the Middle Ages, feudal hierarchy, and other topics we have discussed in class. In the Middle Ages, the Church was one of the most powerful forces. It was a very important part of the people s culture and was a unifying force for them. It gave people a common belief, protection and a sense of safety in a time of war. Many people relied on it to receive sacraments and go to heaven, especially peasants because that was about all they had going for them. The Church and it s matters were taken seriously and they maintained power throughout the Middle Ages. In the movie, the power of the church is shown in many scenes. For example, in the scene where King Arthur and his knights are trying to get into the cave but the rabbit is stopping them, they call in the priests to give them the Holy Hand Grenade . The priests take it very seriously and tell Arthur very specific instructions for it. He activates it and blows up the rabbit they are able to enter the cave. This shows that they believed that the church and God had the most power and the power to do anything. In a time of need, they turned to the Church. The feudal system was the method of government that was used in the Middle Ages. The feudal pyramid consisted of four levels, King at the top, Church Official and Nobles/Lords next, then Knights, and peasants at the bottom. The King had the most power, the nobles were sometimes vassals to the king, knights fought in the king s army, and peasants worked in the field all day and were very poor. In one scene of the movie, peasants are seen working in the fields. They are very dirty and have bad quality clothing which shows how little money and power they had compared to King Arthur, who had fancy clothing and did not have to work. • 37. The Importance Of Design In Nature Every particle in nature represents the complex, and intricate structure of the universe. The human body alone undergoes many different processes per second, and yet, is able to do so almost without error. It s almost undeniable that there is design in nature, however, many question whether or not this design just came about or if it implies that a designer exists. Science and religion attempt to explain design in nature in a much different context, and seem to be in conflict with one another about the existence of a designer. Arguably, I believe that there is a loophole, in which both science and religion can be integrated as one, and can function together to explain design in nature. Beginning with the Big Bang, and Creationism to Evolution, and design in nature, religion provides science with answers and vice versa. God is not the sole worker in nature, nor is he the supreme power, but he allows for natural processes to take their course. Academics from a vast range of fields can all agree that there is design in nature, meaning that nature doesn t consist of random things thrown together without a purpose. Instead, almost everything in nature is intricately designed to achieve certain tasks. Design in nature can be compared to a jigsaw puzzle in the sense that each piece is designed to fit another piece, and they match up perfectly. Hall (1904) described adolescence as a period of storm and stress associated with mood disruptions, parental conflict and risky behaviours. Similarly, youth is a socially constructed phase, not defined by age or physical development, but rather specific progressive phases and transitions. Youth fall between the full dependence of childhood and independence of adulthood, described as partially dependent individuals that are in a phase of self exploration and development of identity (Furlong, 2013). Youth transitions are best viewed as a process of identity development where young people draw on a range of influences, experiences and relationships in the formation of their identity (Stokes Wyn, 2007). Modern youth transitions have seen an increased emergence of subjectivities in identity construction outside of inherited characteristics. • 39. Biomass And Renewable Sources Of Energy Executive summary Biomass has become one of the most commonly used renewable sources of energy in the last two decades. Many of the biomass fuels used today come in the form of wood products, dried vegetation, crop residues, and aquatic plants. It is such a widely utilized source of energy, probably due to its low cost and indigenous nature, that it accounts for almost 14% of the world s total energy supply and as much as 35% in developing countries, mostly for cooking and heating. The wood from trees is most common biomass used for energy. It has been used by humans for producing energy for heating and cooking for a very long time. Biomass cannot replace our current dependence on coal, oil, and natural gas, but it can complement other renewables such as solar and wind energy. To converted biomass into usable energy in ways that are more efficient, less polluting, and at least as economical, technological innovations will be needed. Gasification is considered as a key technology for the use of biomass. In order to promote this technology in the future, advanced, cost effective, and highly efficient gasification processes and systems are required. Generally all different types of biomass can be converted by gasification into syngas mainly comprising hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and methane. . Current understanding is that the 6 to 7 million cones can be divided into red cones (64%), green cones (32%), and blue cones (2%) based on measured response curves (HyperPhysics). When one type of cone continuously sends the same signal to the brain, the cones hastily become exhausted. Once one of the three types of cone becomes exhausted, the cone ceases to transmit signals to the brain. Which causes the brain to assume the cones are tired and holds onto the image. However, once the top sheet of paper is removed all that is shown is a white sheet of paper and white contains all light energy. Since the red type cones are nonfunctioning, only the green and blue type cones receive the wavelengths.
