Afro-Brazilian Self-Identity in Brazil Essay
Over the past several decades there has been an increase, in Brazil, of people whom self identify as
being black or Afro Brazilian. What sparked the rise in these identities in Brazil? Was it possible
material and intellectual gains or, sparked from activism, or from other possible factors. The black
movement and affirmation of black identity came about much later in Brazil than in other countries
such as the United States. In my opinion the most important factors for the rise in these identities are
the material gains from the Quilombo Clause, the effects of affirmative action and quotas, as well as
social activism. One important reason for the increase in people identifying as black in Brazil is the
Quilombo Clause in the 1988 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this community many, who did not prior, began to identify as black in order to qualify for the
Quilombo clause and get the material gain of land. Another factor that has led to the increase in people
identifying as black is affirmative action and the quota system. In the early 2000s Brazilian
government started to introduce affirmative action with a quota system. Quotas were added for
university admissions, government jobs, film and media, among other things. Affirmative action
policies also favored places that gave fair employment to blacks (Htun). The quota systems allow
blacks to have more opportunities for jobs and other intellectual gains. These gains are an incentive
for people, whom may not have prior, to begin to self identify as black in order to qualify for them. An
example of the quota system in use are the students in Brazil deciding whether or not to apply for the
university entrance exam under the quota system in the Wide Angle segment Brazil in Black and
White . In this segment they follow five kids who are taking the entrance exam. Two of these kids
decide to apply under the quota system (Wide Angle). One of these kids is a girl who is lighter skinned
and even though she is lighter she is applying under the quota system because it would increase her
chances of getting in. Both of the girls who decide to apply under the quota system do it because it

Introduction
Pol Pot was a young man who led the Khmer Rouge. Being a leader of the Khmer Rouge, Pol Pot led
a rebellion alongside the regime of Cambodia. Due this, he was, therefore, elected leader of Cambodia
in the year 1975. Pol Pot s leadership was cruel, harsh and brutal. For instance, he confidently
commanded civilians to move out of towns and cities into the country side. When they discarded his
command, he forced them to move. This led to the creation of several camps and farms in the country
side. However, the increased movement of people into the country side led to the accumulation of
starvation and death of around half a million civilians (Weltig, ... Show more content on

He, therefore, continued with his cruelty and brutality.
Pol Pot relied on coercive power in leadership. He used threats to influence his people to do what he
desired. He forced his people to submit to his demands and command. For instance, pot used the threat
tactic to force his people to move from the cities into the country side. During the war between his
revolutionary army and the Vietnamese representatives over the disputed border and islands in
Thailand, he forced his people into the army. He used threats to influence them. Similarly, Pot also
used the threat tactic to influence young teenagers to remain his followers (Ganeri, 2010).
Dictator Pol Pot held goals of attaining independence in Cambodia. He was also determined in making
both social and economic reforms in Cambodia. However, he did not achieve his goals. This was due
to his fall in the year 1978. The effects of his poor leadership were the major causes of his fall. Based
on the behaviorism approach, a leader should portray good characters that are beneficial to his people.
Good behavior is rewarded while bad behavior is punished (Chandler, 1999). Therefore, his
behavioral consequences were punished because he failed in his leadership. Due to his harsh and
brutal leadership, revolts were made against him. As a result, he lost power before achieving his goals.
Therefore, good leadership traits and behavior would lead pol to achieving

Political Power Of The United States
The United States is currently built on an illusion of democracy where everyone supposedly has an
equal opportunity and say in society. The issue arises when government fails to identify this injustice
as a problem because the majority of officials tend to benefit from increased political power.
Economic inequality, the uneven distribution of wealth in one direction, is the leading cause of
poverty in the United States, and the number of individuals in poverty continue to grow. The
government has neglected its citizens, and it has taken legislative favorability of the upper class rather
than the middle and lower class. In the essay Rent Seeking and the Making of an Unequal Society ,
Joseph Stiglitz identifies rent seeking as a means of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main problem being the identification of a corporations as a citizens entitled to First Amendment
rights. The U.S campaign finance system has allowed legalized bribery that influences politicians in
favor of corporate interests.
Political campaigns is a method used by the people to nominate officials that harbor the interests of
the public. The Supreme Court ruling would allow corporations to bolster any specific candidate in
exchange for influence, and eliminate any other competition, in effect limiting the choices of the
bottom 99 percent of the population. This gives legitimate candidates that harbor public interests an
extreme disadvantage, and it forces him/her to rely on individual donations or concede partially to
corporate interests. As corporate campaign financing continues, corporate politicians slowly supersede
the number of politicians in favor of the people. Through the years corporations and the wealthy end
up doing phenomenally well while the rest of the nation suffers.
If the politician of corporations succeeds in obtaining a political office they begin to propose tax cuts
on corporate income, the wealthy, and deregulation of industries. As a result, an already eminent
problem becomes worse because tax cuts on the rich make them even wealthier than they already are.

Have you ever wondered how the Crispus Attucks and other patriots were honored? Well, there is a
monument in Boston that honor those men and women who died for our rights. The Boston Massacre
memorial statue is located in Boston Massachusetts. There is a great amount of symbolism included
on the statute such as the women crushing the crown to defy the British rule and an eagle to symbolize
the strength of America. This statue is an amazing memorial for the patriots that died for our rights.
The memorial was built by Robert A. Kraus to remember our fallen patriots. On the night of March 5,
1770, men and women gathered in the streets for a riot. They were tired of being pushed around by the

Celebration of St. Patrick s Day was to remember Maewyn Succat, who spread Christianity
throughout Ireland. St. Patrick s Day started when a boy, at age 16, was kidnapped into slavery and
brought to Ireland. While there he learned the religion of the Druids. He later escaped, but then later
came back to Ireland because of a supposed vision from God calling him back to Ireland. As soon as
he returned, he started telling everyone about Christ, using their sacred Celtic symbols and turning
them into symbols of Christianity. For example, the three leaf clover, which symbolized the balancing
of forces, was used to describe the Trinity. After this event the Irish made Maewyn Succat a bishop
and gave him the name Saint Patrick after his death. Surprisingly, the celebrating of St. Patrick s Day
was not really enforced in Ireland, but was more enforced when Irish emigrated to America. Today we
dye rivers green, have parades, set leprechaun traps, and wear green.

Character Analysis Of Jack London s To Build A Fire
Character Analysis of Jack London s To Build a Fire
Jack London s short story, To Build a Fire, is a heart wrenching story of a man s struggle to defy the
forces of nature in the most extreme environment of the Yukon Trail, Canada. While warning against
traveling alone, the man sets out by himself with only a dog at his side on a long journey across the
pond in a frigid weather to meet his fellow campers. The man is full of hubris. He believes he can
conquer Mother Nature, and this belief ultimately leads him to his tragic demise. In the beginning of
the story, the author mentions that it was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the
face of things, a subtle gloom that made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of sun (London
157). He tries to emphasize how a cold, merciless, and hostile environment of the Yukon in
subfreezing temperatures. However, this does not intimidate the man. He is so full of self confidence
that he feels that he is ready and fully prepared for the journey, ignoring the facts that he is a new
migrant to the region, and this is his first winter, so he might not fully accustomed to the climate. The
old timer from Sulphur Creek who has been living there for a long time and obviously has a lot of
knowledge and experience with the region, warns him about how cold it sometimes got in the country
(London 162) and no man must travel alone in the Klondike after fifty below (London 164). However,

A Definition Of Justice By Aristotle And The Star Spangled...
American society has kept white rich men in the nation superior, while keeping Black people and
other minorities such as women in the lower realms of the society. When the Declaration of
Independence, Constitution of the United States, and The Star Spangled Banner were written they
were not meant to include black people (African descendants). At that time black people were
considered to be a percent of a person, actually chattel, property to white slave owners. In addition,
women were not considered to have the same rights leaving them in an unequal state to their
husbands, fathers, and brothers. The American society has gained their independence by creating
justice for themselves while producing inequalities for others; some affected by justice were people
with different ideas than government, slaves, women and free African Americans.
Aristotle s A Definition of Justice describes the differences of the state with an oligarchy and
democracy as government. In both systems of government, Aristotle states men have a misconception
of justice. Justice is thought by them to be, and is, equality, not, however, for all, but only for equals.
And inequality is thought to be, and is, justice; neither is this for all, but only for inequals. (Aristotle)
Examples to confirm Aristotle s definition are the position that blacks, slaves and women held in past
oligarchy and democracy states. In Aristotle s time (300 s B.C.) until the late 1800 s slavery was a
customary practice,

A Report On The Plane
When most people hear an airplane in the air they may look up and see just another airplane. They don
t think about how the airplane evolved. They also don t consider any of the material it requires to
achieve this most amazing feat. It s just another aircraft carrying people or items to their destination.
The journey began, as most of us have been taught, in 1903 by the Wright brothers when they flew
their airplane for the first time. The aircraft was crudely constructed, using modern materials for the
time. Some of these materials included wood for the air frame, muslin fabric for covers, and aluminum
for the engine crank case (Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum). In today s aircraft some of
the same materials are used especially aluminum. This case study will focus on one item used within
many small engine aircraft; a servo bracket. A servo bracket sounds like an insignificant piece of
hardware but in fact a servo bracket is a very important part of the airplane, with a very long life
cycle. The servo bracket holds the servo which is connected directly to the airplane s control system,
thus putting the bracket under continuous tension and stress. The bracket itself is not responsible for
the entire strain of the control system, this is accomplished by using much more rigid braces, and the
braces take the brunt of the stress. The bracket s construction has to be from material that is formable,
light and semi strong. The materials must be machine formable in order

Essay on The Back to the Future Trilogy
The Back to the future trilogy is by far my favorite of all time; especially the first one, that movie
alone is on my Mount Rushmore of movies. The trilogy is about a teenager who accidently travels
back in time prevents his parents from getting married which then prevents him from being born, so
now he has to figure out a way to get back to the future and get his parents back together. The entire
trilogy is great; even thought it has its bad moments, but hey, what trilogy does not? The series is a
clever and fun string of movies that leaves you with a good feeling after watching them. Now with
that being said, when you make a movie about time travel there are bound to be some mistakes and

Now with that easy one out the way, time for the real brain busting stuff. At the end out the second
movie and beginning of the third, Doc (Christopher Lloyd) gets struck by a bolt of lighting while
flying still in the air and gets sent back to 1855 while Marty is on the street and sees this happen and is
now stuck again in 1955. Right after that happens Marty gets a letter from Doc stating specific
intrusions on where he left the time machine hidden and how to fix it. Shortly after Marty finds out
that Doc was killed a week after he wrote the letter. Marty then decides to travel back to 1855 and
save Doc. In the process of going back to 1855 he cuts a gas line so now the Delorean has no gas and
Doc and Marty spend the rest of the third movie tiring to find a way to get the Delorean up to 88mph
to be able to travel back home. Here is where there is three major plot holes.
The first one is if Marty and the younger Doc find out about older Docs death in 1955, wouldn t the
older doc already know about it? Yet in the third movie when Marty tells the older doc about this in
1855 he seems shocked as if he didn t already know about this in 1955. Second, when Marty travels
back to 1855 he cuts a gas line on the landing and now is stuck without any gas for the Delorean.
The problem here is what happened to the Delorean that doc hid in the

The Great Man Theory Of Leadership
The Great Man Theory of leadership dates back to the early 1900s where it was strongly believed that
great leaders are born, not made. The basic premise of this theory has been contested since the
inception of leadership study. While recent studies show some evidence to the contrary, the
fundamental principle of the theory does retain some validity. The historian Thomas Carlyle coined
the Great Man Theory as he argues the world s history is simply a collection of biographies belonging
to great men (U, 2016). Although referred to as the Great Man Theory, the foundation of the theory is
gender neutral. It has more recently been termed the Great Man/Great Woman Theory of leadership,
removing the gender associated bias. The lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Executives, military leaders and senior government officials often possess a similar charisma that
empowers them to lead effectively. Although they have all likely attended a slew of leadership
seminars and workshops, there remains a certain x factor they all possess. To gain a worldwide
perspective on the question born or made, the Center for Creative Leadership posed the question to
executives spanning 53 countries. The results indicated a consensus to the contrary of the Great Man
Theory. More than half, 53.4% of respondents believe that leaders are made, referred to as Mades
while only 19.1% believe that they are born, Borns . Interestingly, about a quarter of the executives
surveyed, 28.5%, think leaders are both born and made. (Mascone, 2013) Analyzing further, a
combined 47.6% think there is some validity to being born a leader. Thus, it proves difficult to arrive
at a conclusion with empirical data in support of either theory.
The survey expanded on various leadership topics in an effort to determine what Borns and Mades
believe are important characteristics of leaders. Both Borns and Mades believe that leaders should be
humane, charismatic, participative and team oriented. Borns are more likely to believe that following
protocol and behaving in traditional ways in accordance with the status and position of a leader will
make them more effective.

King Lear Dysfunctional Family
Characteristics of dysfunctional families are found throughout the play King Lear by William
Shakespeare. Dysfunctional means not operating properly, so a dysfunctional family is a family that
does not operate properly. One characteristic of a dysfunctional family is the display of not respecting
others. Another characteristic is a lack of trust. Greed also tarnishes families. These characteristics are
seen in King Lear. Not showing respect for others is a characteristic of a dysfunctional family. When
family members do not trust each other it can be humiliating to those involved. This can ruin
relationships. When Cordelia publicly refuses to go along with Lear s game, Lear sees it as a lack of
respect. In his moment of fury, Lear disowns Cordelia splitting apart the family. Another time this is
seen is when Lear comes to stay with Goneril. Here do you keep a hundred knights and squires, men
so disordered, so debauched and bold, that is our court, infected with their manners, shoes like a
riotous inn, (Shakespeare p.107). Goneril takes this offensively and uses it in her plan to dispose of
Lear. Seeing it as disrespectful she throws him out of her house helping in destroying ... Show more

Gandhi Critique vs Rabindranath Tagore´s Views
Gandhi Critique: Rabindranath Tagore The term the Indian independence movement refers to the
progressive undermining of British Imperial rule in India during the late nineteenth century and early
twentieth century. Though the effort was collective in nature, being that it was popular among the
population of India, the means by which many intended to gain their freedom varied greatly. There
were many competing political approaches to this movement, but among them all, the messages of
Mohandus Karamchand Gandhi, otherwise known as Mahatma Gandhi, emerged as the most
prominent. His teachings concerning how they, the people of India, must attain Swaraj, self
governance free from foreign input where power and wealth were to be distributed more equally, were
founded under a few core principles and beliefs which stressed a multitude of subsequent practices.
With publicity comes scrutiny and Gandhi was no exception. One of Gandhi s foremost critics was his
friend Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, a Nobel Prize winning writer. Though highly controversial at the
time, the methods employed by Gandhi proved to be instrumental to the progress of this nationalist
movement. Gandhi lived his life, and encouraged others to do the same, with his philosophy of
satyagraha: observing a nonviolence of the mind, by seeking truth in a spirit of peace and love, and by
undergoing a rigorous process of self scrutiny (Britannica). Some favored radical violence, but Gandhi
remained true to his writings,

The current dividend per share: $1.50 x 20 million shares = $30 million
Assessing the discretionary cash flow, there is a larger amount at the beginning. If the firm gradually
increases the dividend from $30 million to $50 million, with larger increases at the beginning, a
discretionary cash deficit can be avoided. Payouts would be as follows:
Y1 = $35 / 20 = $1.75
Y2 = $39 / 20 = $1.95
Y3 = $43 / 20 = $2.15
Y4 = $48 / 20 = $2.40

Essay On Konark Sun Temple
What is the most iconic religious monument in India?
In the small city of Konark, rests one of the most unique and iconic religious monuments of India the
Konark Sun Temple. Built during the 13th century under the rule of Narasimhadeva I, this imposing
Hindu shrine is an amazing example of ancient Kalinga architecture and engineering.
Architecture and symbolism behind a giant chariot
Khondalite rock was used to erect the temple. The structural scheme pays homage to Surya the Hindu
Sun god whose figurative representation consists of a chariot pulled by seven horses. There are 12
pairs of three meter diameter wheels carved on the bottom lateral sides of the audience hall structure
(Jaga mohan), while the dance hall structure in front (Nata mandir) faces East to receive sunrise s first
rays of light. The wheels are particularly interesting: each one exhibits impressively intricate carvings
that can reveal the exact hour of the day down to the minute. These giant wheels are high precision
sundials.

to erase it from our memory. Everyone also has their own personal feelings towards a father s figure
due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems My Father s Song, by Simon J.
Ortiz, and My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and
child relationship. My Papa s Waltz creates a debate whether the father son relationship is sweet
loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the child s point
of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems My Father s Song and My Papa s
Waltz both share a theme of admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory.
The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery, and figurative
language. Firstly, In My Father s Song, the tone is nostalgia, it s a perfect demonstration of emotion
the speaker feels about his father. My Papa s Waltz, poem s tone is playful and light created by the
pleasant rhythm iambic, which makes the poem short and sweet. The tone is promoted through word
choice, Both writers use similar word choice to strengthen the theme of admiration. In the poem, My
Papa s Waltz, gives us a both and negative feeling, he uses words such as Still clinging to your shirt
this shows that he hangs onto his father s shirt, not wanting to let go after his father waltzing him off
to bed. His descriptions of the dance give us a fun, playful feeling. Despite the fact the waltz is tough,
he still loves his dad. In My Father s song, the speaker remembers his father s voice. The speaker
describes his experience as His voice, the slight catch, the depth from his this thin crest, the tremble of
emotion in something he has just said to his son, his song (Ortiz 3 7). The speaker remembers every
detail about his father. The child misses his father and cared profoundly about him, especially more

their experiences. Each poem is developed out of

God Is The Creator Of All People, And The Israelites
The modern Christian religion tells each of its followers that God loves us all, sinners and innocents
alike, if only we would accept God into our hearts. But how true is that statement? While God is the
creator of all people, and the Israelites are supposed to be his chosen people, God does not act as such
in the Bible. Rather than being interested in humanity in general, or even the Israelites specifically,
God is primarily interested in certain individuals. These works suggest that even God has favorites.
From Abraham to Moses to David, and all those heroes of the Bible, God preserves the peoples from
which he derives these favored individuals. In these passages, the presence of a chosen one makes or
breaks a society, and more often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As soon as Adam and Eve disobey God, he bans them from the garden of Eden. God drives out man
and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every
way to guard the way to the tree of life and to the entrance to the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24).
These people may have been cared for by God, but by disobeying him, they lose God s favor, showing
that it was only favor that Adam and Eve had to begin with. Even the Israelites, God s chosen people,
are only briefly in God s favor, and that is not as a result of any inherent interest in this group of
people, but rather because the majority of God s favorite individuals arise from this group. The people
of Israel were overcome by the Egyptians and the Egyptians thus set taskmasters over them to afflict
them with heavy burdens (Exodus 1:11). The Israelites groaned because of their slavery and cried out
for help and only then God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob
(Exodus 2:23; Exodus 2:24). God had forgotten about the people he promised to provide prosperity
for in the future. In addition, God does not remember the covenant as being with the Israelite peoples,
but with his favorites of the previous generations, i.e. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Furthermore, rather
than choosing to then save all of the Israelites with the power God obviously

Evaluation on Search Engines
Final Evaluation As I have come to an end of this Unit 2, I am now going to evaluate on each elements
that were useful to me while I was doing this unit. The main sections that I am going to cover are the
search engines used, search techniques used and search criteria, sources of information used,
comparison of the internet and non internet sources and the quality of the information found. Internet
Source Most frequently used search engine for this unit was Google as it is quite obvious but I also
tried to use other search engines which I am not that familiar to such as Bing, Ask Jeeves, Dogpile,

I used many different sources of information such as internet websites, videos, articles etc and the non
internet sources were the magazines, newspapers and TV. Personally I found the internet sources
easier to look for any wanted information as it was a lot quicker and I was able to personalise the type
of search that I wanted to conduct. I also had the facility to screen print, copy the main points and get
the images instantly so that I could show it as my reference. Non internet sources was also very useful
to find the information but I had to spend more time while researching as I had to flick through many
pages just to find the article about the laptops and the information that I gained were all very limited.
The possible improvement would be that if I tried researching more using the non internet sources by
talking with the technology experts etc. There were many dates that I had come across during the
research of the pull out section. In order to check that if the dates were correct I looked into many
different search engines which showed that the dated that I obtained were accurate. To check the
reliability of the results in the search engines I researched typed Osborne 1 in Google, Bing, Yahoo
and Dogpile.
Even if I used four different search engines the results that I found were very similar

Abstract
We reflect on environmental issues learned so far and what has been an influencing factor and has this
shaped my attitude. The hypothetical scenario of implementing three programs to solve environmental
problems, three stages for each program and what the programs will achieve is also discussed.
Environmental issues learnt and hypothetical environmental leadership decisions
Some key environmental issues covered so far are global warming, climate change, air pollution,
water quality and quantity, ecosystems and global dimming. Some key statements have had a strong
impact, these have been provided by the organisations NASA and the UN. The UN (2014) states that
every year more people die from unsafe water than war and violence. The UN (2014) also states that
an estimated 1.8 billion people will be in regions classified as water scarce by 2025. NASA (2014)
make the statements Greenland lost 150 to 250 cubic kilometers of ice per year between 2002 and
2006 and Antarctica lost about 152 cubic kilometers of ice between 2002 and 2005 and The oceans

Futility of Human Existence Exposed in The Guest by...
He who despairs of the human condition is a coward, but he who has hope for it is a fool (Wyatt). As
this quote by Albert Camus suggests, he was not a very optimistic writer. His gloomy look on life
itself can be seen all too clearly in The Guest . The story itself deals with Camus s idea of the futility
of human existence: the only rational thing anyone can expect is death. Camus s underlying
philosophy is revealed from the very beginning of the story. The French title, L hote , translates to
mean both guest and host simultaneously, which implies that the mutually respectful relationship
between the main characters in the story should be applied to mankind everywhere. The story begins

When Daru asks the prisoner whether he was afraid, he replies by turning his eyes away. When Daru
asks whether he is sorry for the crime he has committed, the Arab stares at him as if he does not
comprehend the words. However, he understands completely the situation that he is in, thus showing
that it is Daru who cannot comprehend why the Arab has murdered his cousin. The history of this
racial conflict dates back to when the French first colonized Algeria. Algeria has undergone many
years of ethnic strife; the French, though they are the minority, dominate the large Arab population.
This clash is further exacerbated by the lack of cultural understanding between the two groups. Daru
cannot fathom a plausible reason for murdering a cousin over a debt of grain. Upon hearing of the
crime, he feels a sudden wrath against the man, against all men with their rotten spite, their tireless
hates, their blood lusts. What he has not taken into account is that it may be perfectly acceptable to the
Arab to kill a relative rather than lose his honor (Thody). Islamic law leaves private [family] matters
alone, but the French view their system as innately superior. Growing up in post colonized Algeria,
Camus was heavily influenced by the conflict between the Europeans and the Arabs. He was torn
within himself: he sympathized with the Muslim population, yet was unable to forgo his ties to the
French. Though he supported pacifism as an end to racially driven conflicts, he could

Part One: Customer Satisfaction
2.1.1 Introduction to Customer Satisfaction:
Customer Satisfaction is one of the main topics rises recently. Before years there was a revelation of a
customer service to concentrate on customer, to treat with him in a better way, to please and fulfill his
demands of the customer. In order to achieve that, researchers analyzed the customer population then
took random samples and after that generalized the results and came with procedures to treat and
please the customers. The first thing is spark in the satisfaction of the customer concept added to the
private sector, later applied to the other sectors.

Cheefy defined it as the extent to which a customers expectations of product quality, service quality,
and price are met.
The reality of Customer Satisfaction is in the eyes of the beholder the customer. And all about how to
meet the expectation of those customers and even exceeding those expectations.
According to Business Dictionary definition it is the degree of satisfaction provided by the good or
service of a company as measured by the number of repeat customers.
Or it is the number of customers or percentage of total customers, whose reported experience with a
firm, its products, or its services (ratings) exceeds specified satisfaction goals. (Paul W. and others,
2010).
Customer satisfaction can be experienced in a variety of situations and connected to both goods and
services. It is a highly personal assessment that is greatly affected by customer expectations.
Satisfaction also is based on the customer s experience of both contacts with the organization and
personal outcomes.
Some researchers define a satisfied customer within the private sector as one who receives significant
added value to his/her bottom line a definition that may apply just as well to public services. (Cengiz,

Stress In The Baboons
This episode features Stanford University s Neurobiologist, Robert Sapolsky, who has a high
understanding of stress and how it affects our not just our health, but our bodies. The main point
Robert is conveying to the audience states that stress leads to serious health consequences, such as
high blood pressure, weakened immune system, fatigue, development of fat and even the shortening of
life expectancy. Robert Sapolsky researches the science behind human stress by exploring non human
primates, the baboons in their natural habitat in Kenya, Africa. After thirty years of research, Sapolsky
believes that baboons are apparently the perfect source of exemplifying human stress because they are
naturally aggressive toward one another, including their offspring, and the pain and stress factors
appear to be the same in humans; especially dealing with stressful jobs and verbally abusive bosses. In
the baboon s case, if you are a full controlled male, you can expect lower stress levels, and if you are
the submissive, abused baboon, the stress level can be much higher. The only way Robert can take a
look at the serious health consequences related to human stress in the baboon is by taking the
unsuspecting submissive monkey s blood and examining the stress hormones in the lab. The results of
a submissive baboon revealed high blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Do School Lunches Be Banned From Schools
Today one in five school aged children (ages 6 19) have obesity and people debate over how to
decrease this number and prevent it from being more of an issue in the future. School lunches are
often brought up in this discussion, some say that by getting rid of all junk food in schools would help
decrease the number of obese students and prevent them in future by providing only healthy food
options. On the other hand, they say that it s not that simple, the problems are at home and that getting
rid of these items could decrease revenues for school activities from those products.
Many people believe that junk food should be banned from schools across the nation. In fact, Carol
Duh Leong who was once on the board of Doctors of America found that, a slight reduction of as little
as 100 calories a day, for example from the removal of soda from children s diets could result in
weight loss. By getting rid of soda machines in schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They say child obesity is not the fault of school lunches, school meals are only consumed once a day,

effect on their weight is happening at home more than it is at school so it is the fault of the the child s
parents for their unhealthy habits. Another reason why people think they should not need to ban junk
food from schools is, schools that have began to get rid of vending machines have lost thousands of
dollars and found, funding things like athletics and schools activities became increasingly hard to pay
for (Rosenthal). In other words, vending machine revenues are often used for funding school
activities, if they were to be taken out of schools they would cause schools to lose fundings because

Sex Offenders Should Be Legal
Over the years, there has been controversy on the topic of whether the names of sex offenders should
or shouldn t be made public. Sex offender laws may vary from state to state depending on the specific
type of violation. When the sex offenders are released from prison, they are enlisted on an online
database where their names, photographs, and addresses are displayed to the public. As a result of this
national publication database, sex offender laws have grown self defeatingly harsh (Economist 655).
When sex offenders are added to the registries, it is often felt unfair that the registries enforce harsh
punishments for small offenses, sex offender laws punishes the offender and his or her family, and
does little to protect the innocent. Sex offenders often get punished for offenses that are small, low
risk crimes. It is possible for a person to lose their job or the opportunity to see their children for one
tier offenses. Also, offenders can be at risk of being brutally attacked or murdered by being named a
sex offender on the database. These offenders will soon become a burden to the economy because of
their incapability to stay employed. Eventually, offenders are left relying on welfare with state
assistance, and they are viewed as an outsider of the community. As a result of extreme stress, the
offender can act out and become a second term offender.

what you re escaping from to become a fugitive (GoodReads). All individuals are subjected to
escapism as a way to flee daily routine and boredom.

A form of escapism that many individuals partake in is the permanent decision to end one s life in
order to escape their misfortune. The purpose of committing suicide is to seek for a solution, to those
individuals suicide is the only answer to an otherwise unsolvable problem (Survivors of Suicide). By
ending their lives these individuals hope to escape the burden of responsibilities while leaving behind
the anguish of what they can not change. Studies show that those who seek for a permanent solution
like suicide often suffer from depression after they have repressed their emotions for long periods of
time. Suicide has become the third leading cause of death amongst young individuals. Suicide
methods may differ depending on the gender. Woman are commonly prone to overdose on pills or
cutting themselves. While men choose methods that are lethal, such as using a weapon, jumping from
buildings, or hanging themselves (Teen Suicide). These individuals that feel the need to take their
lives are often depressed and feel hopeless. Their psychological pain is too much of a burden to carry
around and suicide becomes the only way to escape from it

How Did The Western Schism Affect The Catholic Church
The Western Schism:
And Its Impact on the Catholic Church
Jacob Stickney
Western Civilization II
Professor Jennifer Fast
November 14, 2016
The Catholic Church s response to the Western Schism was vastly important to its respectability and
authority in regards to the faithful of that time. The Western Schism was only a temporary
misunderstanding, even though it compelled the Church for forty years to seek its true head; it was fed
by politics and passions, and was terminated by the assembling of the councils of Pisa and Constance.
1 After the Avignon Papacy, the Catholic Church had three men claiming to be pope. One man elected
in Rome, one in Avignon, France, and one elected by the Council of Pisa. This was very detrimental to
the Catholic theology which states that it can trace every pope back to St. Peter, the first pope. The
Catholic faithful were not sure which of the three men was the true pope and which, if any of them,
they should listen to. It was a very confusing time for all the faithful living in this time, and a very
annoying situation for the true pope who was now seen by many to be as questionable as the other two
in regards to not being the true pope. The three men knew what a mess this situation was and two of
them wanted to deal with the situation, so as to reduce confusion among the faithful. The anti pope
John XXIII called the Council of Constance to deal with this situation. He offered to resign from the
papacy, that he was never in possession of, if the other two men would as well. The council met to
depose of the two anti popes, to deal with heretical teachings, and to protect the succession of the
papacy. This council is one of the most important ecumenical councils, as it helped to affirm the
succession of the pope and to help to resolve the confusion caused by these anti popes. The Council of
Constance was called in 1414 by the Anti Pope John XXIII. It was called to resolve the conflict
regarding the papacy and to identify the true successor of St. Peter. Between November 1414 and June
1415, the council had a total of 13 sessions, dealing with the papacy and how the pope was chosen.
The council, enacted Haec Sancta (fifth session, 15 April 1415),

Crave Horror Movies
Blood, murder, bloody murder... scream, don t we all crave the feeling of seeing other people get
killed? That is one of the reasons why we enjoy the horror genre. Some may think that horror films are
horrifying, but people still watch them because we like the emotional release that it provides,
satisfying the cravings that we have for it. In Stephen King s essay, Why We Crave Horror Movies, he
claims that people crave the adrenaline rush that horror gives us. He believes that humans need the
relief that horror films bring. No one can live without having some hysterical fear because that is part
of the human nature. While many may believe that horror films are terrifying and unpleasant, King s
ideas are accurate because the human condition seeks the negative emotions that horror provides.
People like to have fun so they watch horror movies because it gives them an unforgettable adrenaline
rush. We go to have fun (King, 1). As a part of the human experience, the feeling of being scared is in
everyone. Watching horror films is just another way of excitement and having fun. I agree with King
when he writes, If pro football has become the voyeur s version of combat, then the horror film has
become the modern version of the public lynching (2). This shows that seeing people get hurt is an
attention grabber and is enjoyable. People like the idea of horror because of the excitement that it
provides and it gives people the sense of wanting to watch it even more.

The Study Of The Theory Of International Relations
The study of international relations takes a vast spectrum of theoretical approaches. A theory of
international relations is a collection of concepts that delineate how the international system operates
(SparkNote on International Politics, 2010). Contrary to an ideology, a theory of international studies
is endorsed with solid evidence. This essay will focus on two dominant theories of International
Relations (IR), namely realism and liberalism to decide for this matter on the more pragmatic one for
the study of IR. According to realism, states work only to gain more power relative to that of other
states (Donelan: 1990:23). Liberalism matured in the 1970s as some scholars generated arguments that
realism was defunct. With the rise of globalization, the immediate increase in communications
technology, and the expansion of international trade meant that states could no longer be dependent on
complete power politics to resolve matters (Lawson, 2015:96). ... Show more content on

Liberalism is contrary to realism, in a sense that it places confidence in the amount of power through
state economies, the prospects of peace and cooperation, rights and notions of political freedoms
(Burchill et al, 2005: 80). This essay delineates the reasons why liberal theory would be the suitable
theory for the study of IR, the position of the theory today and lastly the three variants of

Othello Racial Undertone Essay

Racial Undertone s
The study in contrasts between Shakespeare s Othello and Tim Blake Nelson s 2001 movie O have
many prevalent differences. Issues of jealousy and racial tensions are still deeply rooted into our
society and can be examined in theO, Othello, and the Elizabethan era where many of Shakespeare s
plays took place. The racial undertone was more prevalent in the movie, although in each
interpretation Othello/Odin was the only black individual in each setting. However the most prevalent
differences between William Shakespeare s Othello and Tim Blake Nelson s O are the racial
undertones shown through cinematic techniques and Othello/Odin s self perception.
The director used cinematic techniques and different stereotypes to explore the racial tension between
white and black society. Hugo explains the meaning of the hawk in his soliloquy towards the end of
the movie. He expresses the thought that Odin is a powerful and majestic hawk, this is something that
Hugo desires. Which is controversial because in Othello and O black males usually had aspirations to
be seen as a dove. However the image of a black male does not fit into a white ... Show more content

Othello defends himself, saying My services which I have done the signatory shall out tongue his
complaints. Tis yet to know Which, when i know that boasting is an honor, i shall promulgate, I fetch
my life from men of royal siege (Act 1, Sc 2, Ln 17). This shows that Othello was comfortable with
his past and truly believed that it should speak for itself. He did not allow racial stereotypes to define
himself. Othello was perceived as a warrior and leader, which was not the case in Venice. Therefore
Othello did not perceive himself as a stereotypical black male in Venice. In contrast, Odin was more
cognizant of the racial undertones that fueled his actions and his perception of

Narrative Techniques In Ed Gonzalez s Film Close Up
As said by Ed Gonzalez in his article about Close up, the movie is still definitive film on film
commentary. This is proven throughout the movie with the use of shots and editing, and also with how
Bazin might react to Abbas Kiarostami s film. Throughout this course so far, shots and editing have
been an integral part of what has been covered. Close up has a unique approach to how it is directed.
Considered a mockumentary, it has all the styles of a documentary with some twists. The close up shot
creates an intimate feeling for the viewer. With a close up shot the viewer connects emotionally better
with the person in the movie. Whether being interviewed, as seen in Close up, or just a person talking
in a movie the feeling is stronger about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mummy complex is when cinema satisfies the desire to preserve. If he could give a reaction to
this Bazin would say that this whole film is real. Due to the fact that film is supposed to be trusted in
his mind and should show reality it means the film is all real. If this were the case though it would
make all movies look real. There is a knowledge that film is scripted for the most part and what we see
regularly is rarely real. This does preserve reality in Bazin s mind though. With the kicking of the can,
it shows that although it is scripted it is not a fake movie. There is still the sense of reality in every
scene. The can saves that, it preserves that sense. The mise en scene in Kiarostami s Close up leans
more towards the realistic side. The aspects of this movie continually fall under the category of
realistic. With the camera location for some of the shots it makes it realistic. Seeing the scenes from
behind car windows or other obstacles makes the scenes real. They are real because it is like you are
watching what is going on live right in front of you. The lighting of the movie makes it realistic as
well. There was never really any scenes that were either too dark or too bright to make it seem fake.
Even inside the courtroom it looked as if the room was true and was not altered. The outdoor scenes
were controlled lighting that would be seen under any

Conquest Of Native Americans
What made Native American peoples vulnerable to conquest by European adventures? I think there
were multiple reasons for the Native Americans were vulnerable to conquest. Economic, social
structure, militarily, and medicinally. They were also already in a period of population decline prior to
the arrival of the Europeans. Cahokia s, Aztec s, Inca s and Mayans population where no were near the
size they had been or almost completely nonexistent. Economically they didn t have the vast trading
networks that the Europeans had. They did have some reginal trade but not across the entire continent.
I think had they had a larger trade system they could have helped each other out technologically
increasing their ability to resist some of that conquest.

Any +ve int. 2 is sum of 2 prime numbers. Two questions. How do we prove this, but also CAN we
ever prove it. Third problem became the great mathematical challenge of the age. Turing solved it, but
in the process established a system that is still useable today. Am indebted to Oxford university course
on computing for the following, which I reproduce without a full understanding. Turing s (successful)
approach to the decidability problem involved the design and use of an imaginary machine. This is the
same technique...gedanken...that was used by Albert Einstein, in relation to relativity and in
Schrodinger s Cat reference quantum mechanics. Turing s machine used a continuous tape, which can
be as long as required, which carries a series of cells. This passes under a read/write head that can read
and if required change the symbol under it. The head views one symbol at a time and, can: move, or
not move, the tape one cell in either direction; read and /or change the symbol written on that cell; or
change states. The states are a finite number of conditions, e.g. start, add, carry, return and stop.
Different sets of states will be needed for different problems. Turing was able to show that if we first
assume a solution does exist then we can show that this would lead to a completely impossible
situation. Hence a solution does not exist (proof by contradiction, a standard method in mathematics.).
When Turing went to show his

Analysis Of The Chicago Tribune And William Randolph...
This pair seized upon the headlines generated from a case involving a woman named Mona Marshall,
who alleged that she had been drugged, raped, and forced into prostitution by a pimp. There were
elements of her story that were genuinely factual and terribly disturbing, but other parts seemed far
fetched. That included a tale in which the police reportedly received a note that she dropped from the
window of the brothel where she worked stating, I am a white slave. In addition, Marshall s
recounting of events included several contradictions with dates and key details. Nonetheless, The
Chicago Tribune and William Randolph Hearst s Chicago American ran wild with the Mona Marshall
story and it quickly gained a national audience. Clifford Roe gained recognition nationwide as the
prosecutor of that case and he leveraged his newfound fame into more of an activist role. He
subsequently published Panders and Their White Slaves and The Girl Who Disappeared, which was
later fact checked by a notable sociologist Walter Reckless. He found that Roe used heavily altered
statements from prostitutes to advance his agenda. In addition, Reckless studied Chicago s white slave
court cases extensively and found that less than 5% of them actually involved women held against
their will. In fairness, although Roe s methods were deceptive, one positive result manifested from his
work as he successfully lobbied to get much needed sex trafficking laws passed in Illinois. Over a
short period of

  • 2. Afro-Brazilian Self-Identity in Brazil Essay Over the past several decades there has been an increase, in Brazil, of people whom self identify as being black or Afro Brazilian. What sparked the rise in these identities in Brazil? Was it possible material and intellectual gains or, sparked from activism, or from other possible factors. The black movement and affirmation of black identity came about much later in Brazil than in other countries such as the United States. In my opinion the most important factors for the rise in these identities are the material gains from the Quilombo Clause, the effects of affirmative action and quotas, as well as social activism. One important reason for the increase in people identifying as black in Brazil is the Quilombo Clause in the 1988 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this community many, who did not prior, began to identify as black in order to qualify for the Quilombo clause and get the material gain of land. Another factor that has led to the increase in people identifying as black is affirmative action and the quota system. In the early 2000s Brazilian government started to introduce affirmative action with a quota system. Quotas were added for university admissions, government jobs, film and media, among other things. Affirmative action policies also favored places that gave fair employment to blacks (Htun). The quota systems allow blacks to have more opportunities for jobs and other intellectual gains. These gains are an incentive for people, whom may not have prior, to begin to self identify as black in order to qualify for them. An example of the quota system in use are the students in Brazil deciding whether or not to apply for the university entrance exam under the quota system in the Wide Angle segment Brazil in Black and White . In this segment they follow five kids who are taking the entrance exam. Two of these kids decide to apply under the quota system (Wide Angle). One of these kids is a girl who is lighter skinned and even though she is lighter she is applying under the quota system because it would increase her chances of getting in. Both of the girls who decide to apply under the quota system do it because it increases their chances ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Demographic Transition Pol Pot Name: Tutor: Course: College: Date: Introduction Pol Pot was a young man who led the Khmer Rouge. Being a leader of the Khmer Rouge, Pol Pot led a rebellion alongside the regime of Cambodia. Due this, he was, therefore, elected leader of Cambodia in the year 1975. Pol Pot s leadership was cruel, harsh and brutal. For instance, he confidently commanded civilians to move out of towns and cities into the country side. When they discarded his command, he forced them to move. This led to the creation of several camps and farms in the country side. However, the increased movement of people into the country side led to the accumulation of starvation and death of around half a million civilians (Weltig, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He, therefore, continued with his cruelty and brutality. Pol Pot relied on coercive power in leadership. He used threats to influence his people to do what he desired. He forced his people to submit to his demands and command. For instance, pot used the threat tactic to force his people to move from the cities into the country side. During the war between his revolutionary army and the Vietnamese representatives over the disputed border and islands in Thailand, he forced his people into the army. He used threats to influence them. Similarly, Pot also used the threat tactic to influence young teenagers to remain his followers (Ganeri, 2010). Dictator Pol Pot held goals of attaining independence in Cambodia. He was also determined in making both social and economic reforms in Cambodia. However, he did not achieve his goals. This was due to his fall in the year 1978. The effects of his poor leadership were the major causes of his fall. Based on the behaviorism approach, a leader should portray good characters that are beneficial to his people. Good behavior is rewarded while bad behavior is punished (Chandler, 1999). Therefore, his behavioral consequences were punished because he failed in his leadership. Due to his harsh and brutal leadership, revolts were made against him. As a result, he lost power before achieving his goals. Therefore, good leadership traits and behavior would lead pol to achieving

  • 5. Political Power Of The United States The United States is currently built on an illusion of democracy where everyone supposedly has an equal opportunity and say in society. The issue arises when government fails to identify this injustice as a problem because the majority of officials tend to benefit from increased political power. Economic inequality, the uneven distribution of wealth in one direction, is the leading cause of poverty in the United States, and the number of individuals in poverty continue to grow. The government has neglected its citizens, and it has taken legislative favorability of the upper class rather than the middle and lower class. In the essay Rent Seeking and the Making of an Unequal Society , Joseph Stiglitz identifies rent seeking as a means of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main problem being the identification of a corporations as a citizens entitled to First Amendment rights. The U.S campaign finance system has allowed legalized bribery that influences politicians in favor of corporate interests. Political campaigns is a method used by the people to nominate officials that harbor the interests of the public. The Supreme Court ruling would allow corporations to bolster any specific candidate in exchange for influence, and eliminate any other competition, in effect limiting the choices of the bottom 99 percent of the population. This gives legitimate candidates that harbor public interests an extreme disadvantage, and it forces him/her to rely on individual donations or concede partially to corporate interests. As corporate campaign financing continues, corporate politicians slowly supersede the number of politicians in favor of the people. Through the years corporations and the wealthy end up doing phenomenally well while the rest of the nation suffers. If the politician of corporations succeeds in obtaining a political office they begin to propose tax cuts on corporate income, the wealthy, and deregulation of industries. As a result, an already eminent problem becomes worse because tax cuts on the rich make them even wealthier than they already are. On 2011, Vermont Senator Bernard Sanders stated that in America ... Well, there is a monument in Boston that honor those men and women who died for our rights. The Boston Massacre memorial statue is located in Boston Massachusetts. There is a great amount of symbolism included on the statute such as the women crushing the crown to defy the British rule and an eagle to symbolize the strength of America. This statue is an amazing memorial for the patriots that died for our rights. The memorial was built by Robert A. Kraus to remember our fallen patriots. Celebration of St. Patrick s Day was to remember Maewyn Succat, who spread Christianity throughout Ireland. St. Patrick s Day started when a boy, at age 16, was kidnapped into slavery and brought to Ireland. While there he learned the religion of the Druids. He later escaped, but then later came back to Ireland because of a supposed vision from God calling him back to Ireland. As soon as he returned, he started telling everyone about Christ, using their sacred Celtic symbols and turning them into symbols of Christianity. For example, the three leaf clover, which symbolized the balancing of forces, was used to describe the Trinity. After this event the Irish made Maewyn Succat a bishop and gave him the name Saint Patrick after his death. Surprisingly, the celebrating of St. Patrick s Day was not really enforced in Ireland, but was more enforced when Irish emigrated to America. Today we dye rivers green, have parades, set leprechaun traps, and wear green. You are going to church to celebrate the risen Savior, decorating eggs beautifully, and searching for those plastic eggs with chocolate inside. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. This holiday is celebrated to remember how Jesus conquered death and how we will now have eternal life with God. Furthermore, this holiday is the most important part of the Christian church year, and is observed as an entire season, not a one day event. Easter happened one Sunday, three days ... • 8. Character Analysis Of Jack London s To Build A Fire Character Analysis of Jack London s To Build a Fire Jack London s short story, To Build a Fire, is a heart wrenching story of a man s struggle to defy the forces of nature in the most extreme environment of the Yukon Trail, Canada. While warning against traveling alone, the man sets out by himself with only a dog at his side on a long journey across the pond in a frigid weather to meet his fellow campers. The man is full of hubris. He believes he can conquer Mother Nature, and this belief ultimately leads him to his tragic demise. In the beginning of the story, the author mentions that it was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of sun (London 157). He tries to emphasize how a cold, merciless, and hostile environment of the Yukon in subfreezing temperatures. However, this does not intimidate the man. He is so full of self confidence that he feels that he is ready and fully prepared for the journey, ignoring the facts that he is a new migrant to the region, and this is his first winter, so he might not fully accustomed to the climate. The old timer from Sulphur Creek who has been living there for a long time and obviously has a lot of knowledge and experience with the region, warns him about how cold it sometimes got in the country (London 162) and no man must travel alone in the Klondike after fifty below (London 164). • 10. A Definition Of Justice By Aristotle And The Star Spangled... American society has kept white rich men in the nation superior, while keeping Black people and other minorities such as women in the lower realms of the society. When the Declaration of Independence, Constitution of the United States, and The Star Spangled Banner were written they were not meant to include black people (African descendants). At that time black people were considered to be a percent of a person, actually chattel, property to white slave owners. In addition, women were not considered to have the same rights leaving them in an unequal state to their husbands, fathers, and brothers. The American society has gained their independence by creating justice for themselves while producing inequalities for others; some affected by justice were people with different ideas than government, slaves, women and free African Americans. Aristotle s A Definition of Justice describes the differences of the state with an oligarchy and democracy as government. In both systems of government, Aristotle states men have a misconception of justice. Justice is thought by them to be, and is, equality, not, however, for all, but only for equals. And inequality is thought to be, and is, justice; neither is this for all, but only for inequals. (Aristotle) Examples to confirm Aristotle s definition are the position that blacks, slaves and women held in past oligarchy and democracy states. In Aristotle s time (300 s B.C.) until the late 1800 s slavery was a customary practice, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. A Report On The Plane When most people hear an airplane in the air they may look up and see just another airplane. They don t think about how the airplane evolved. They also don t consider any of the material it requires to achieve this most amazing feat. It s just another aircraft carrying people or items to their destination. The journey began, as most of us have been taught, in 1903 by the Wright brothers when they flew their airplane for the first time. The aircraft was crudely constructed, using modern materials for the time. Some of these materials included wood for the air frame, muslin fabric for covers, and aluminum for the engine crank case (Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum). In today s aircraft some of the same materials are used especially aluminum. This case study will focus on one item used within many small engine aircraft; a servo bracket. A servo bracket sounds like an insignificant piece of hardware but in fact a servo bracket is a very important part of the airplane, with a very long life cycle. The servo bracket holds the servo which is connected directly to the airplane s control system, thus putting the bracket under continuous tension and stress. The bracket itself is not responsible for the entire strain of the control system, this is accomplished by using much more rigid braces, and the braces take the brunt of the stress. The bracket s construction has to be from material that is formable, light and semi strong. The materials must be machine formable in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Essay on The Back to the Future Trilogy The Back to the future trilogy is by far my favorite of all time; especially the first one, that movie alone is on my Mount Rushmore of movies. The trilogy is about a teenager who accidently travels back in time prevents his parents from getting married which then prevents him from being born, so now he has to figure out a way to get back to the future and get his parents back together. The entire trilogy is great; even thought it has its bad moments, but hey, what trilogy does not? At the end out the second movie and beginning of the third, Doc (Christopher Lloyd) gets struck by a bolt of lighting while flying still in the air and gets sent back to 1855 while Marty is on the street and sees this happen and is now stuck again in 1955. Right after that happens Marty gets a letter from Doc stating specific intrusions on where he left the time machine hidden and how to fix it. Shortly after Marty finds out that Doc was killed a week after he wrote the letter. Marty then decides to travel back to 1855 and save Doc. In the process of going back to 1855 he cuts a gas line so now the Delorean has no gas and Doc and Marty spend the rest of the third movie tiring to find a way to get the Delorean up to 88mph to be able to travel back home. Here is where there is three major plot holes. The first one is if Marty and the younger Doc find out about older Docs death in 1955, wouldn t the older doc already know about it? Yet in the third movie when Marty tells the older doc about this in 1855 he seems shocked as if he didn t already know about this in 1955. • 14. The Great Man Theory Of Leadership The Great Man Theory of leadership dates back to the early 1900s where it was strongly believed that great leaders are born, not made. The basic premise of this theory has been contested since the inception of leadership study. While recent studies show some evidence to the contrary, the fundamental principle of the theory does retain some validity. The historian Thomas Carlyle coined the Great Man Theory as he argues the world s history is simply a collection of biographies belonging to great men (U, 2016). Although referred to as the Great Man Theory, the foundation of the theory is gender neutral. It has more recently been termed the Great Man/Great Woman Theory of leadership, removing the gender associated bias. The lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Executives, military leaders and senior government officials often possess a similar charisma that empowers them to lead effectively. Although they have all likely attended a slew of leadership seminars and workshops, there remains a certain x factor they all possess. To gain a worldwide perspective on the question born or made, the Center for Creative Leadership posed the question to executives spanning 53 countries. The results indicated a consensus to the contrary of the Great Man Theory. More than half, 53.4% of respondents believe that leaders are made, referred to as Mades while only 19.1% believe that they are born, Borns . Interestingly, about a quarter of the executives surveyed, 28.5%, think leaders are both born and made. (Mascone, 2013) Analyzing further, a combined 47.6% think there is some validity to being born a leader. Thus, it proves difficult to arrive at a conclusion with empirical data in support of either theory. The survey expanded on various leadership topics in an effort to determine what Borns and Mades believe are important characteristics of leaders. Both Borns and Mades believe that leaders should be humane, charismatic, participative and team oriented. Borns are more likely to believe that following protocol and behaving in traditional ways in accordance with the status and position of a leader will make them more effective. ... • 15. King Lear Dysfunctional Family Characteristics of dysfunctional families are found throughout the play King Lear by William Shakespeare. Dysfunctional means not operating properly, so a dysfunctional family is a family that does not operate properly. One characteristic of a dysfunctional family is the display of not respecting others. Another characteristic is a lack of trust. Greed also tarnishes families. These characteristics are seen in King Lear. Not showing respect for others is a characteristic of a dysfunctional family. When family members do not trust each other it can be humiliating to those involved. This can ruin relationships. When Cordelia publicly refuses to go along with Lear s game, Lear sees it as a lack of respect. In his moment of fury, Lear disowns Cordelia splitting apart the family. Another time this is seen is when Lear comes to stay with Goneril. Here do you keep a hundred knights and squires, men so disordered, so debauched and bold, that is our court, infected with their manners, shoes like a riotous inn, (Shakespeare p.107). • 16. Gandhi Critique vs Rabindranath Tagore´s Views Gandhi Critique: Rabindranath Tagore The term the Indian independence movement refers to the progressive undermining of British Imperial rule in India during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Though the effort was collective in nature, being that it was popular among the population of India, the means by which many intended to gain their freedom varied greatly. There were many competing political approaches to this movement, but among them all, the messages of Mohandus Karamchand Gandhi, otherwise known as Mahatma Gandhi, emerged as the most prominent. His teachings concerning how they, the people of India, must attain Swaraj, self governance free from foreign input where power and wealth were to be distributed more equally, were founded under a few core principles and beliefs which stressed a multitude of subsequent practices. With publicity comes scrutiny and Gandhi was no exception. One of Gandhi s foremost critics was his friend Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, a Nobel Prize winning writer. Though highly controversial at the time, the methods employed by Gandhi proved to be instrumental to the progress of this nationalist movement. Gandhi lived his life, and encouraged others to do the same, with his philosophy of satyagraha: observing a nonviolence of the mind, by seeking truth in a spirit of peace and love, and by undergoing a rigorous process of self scrutiny (Britannica). Everyone also has their own personal feelings towards a father s figure due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems My Father s Song, by Simon J. Ortiz, and My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and child relationship. My Papa s Waltz creates a debate whether the father son relationship is sweet loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the child s point of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems My Father s Song and My Papa s Waltz both share a theme of admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory. The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery, and figurative language. Firstly, In My Father s Song, the tone is nostalgia, it s a perfect demonstration of emotion the speaker feels about his father. My Papa s Waltz, poem s tone is playful and light created by the pleasant rhythm iambic, which makes the poem short and sweet. The tone is promoted through word choice, Both writers use similar word choice to strengthen the theme of admiration. In the poem, My Papa s Waltz, gives us a both and negative feeling, he uses words such as Still clinging to your shirt this shows that he hangs onto his father s shirt, not wanting to let go after his father waltzing him off to bed. His descriptions of the dance give us a fun, playful feeling. Despite the fact the waltz is tough, he still loves his dad. In My Father s song, the speaker remembers his father s voice. The speaker describes his experience as His voice, the slight catch, the depth from his this thin crest, the tremble of emotion in something he has just said to his son, his song (Ortiz 3 7). The speaker remembers every detail about his father. The child misses his father and cared profoundly about him, especially more tonight Wanting to say things, I miss my father tonight (1 2) Thirdly, Both writers use a lot of imagery in their poems, they use a big amount of imagination to tell their experiences. The main point Robert is conveying to the audience states that stress leads to serious health consequences, such as high blood pressure, weakened immune system, fatigue, development of fat and even the shortening of life expectancy. Robert Sapolsky researches the science behind human stress by exploring non human primates, the baboons in their natural habitat in Kenya, Africa. After thirty years of research, Sapolsky believes that baboons are apparently the perfect source of exemplifying human stress because they are naturally aggressive toward one another, including their offspring, and the pain and stress factors appear to be the same in humans; especially dealing with stressful jobs and verbally abusive bosses. In the baboon s case, if you are a full controlled male, you can expect lower stress levels, and if you are the submissive, abused baboon, the stress level can be much higher. • 38. Sex Offenders Should Be Legal Over the years, there has been controversy on the topic of whether the names of sex offenders should or shouldn t be made public. Sex offender laws may vary from state to state depending on the specific type of violation. When the sex offenders are released from prison, they are enlisted on an online database where their names, photographs, and addresses are displayed to the public. As a result of this national publication database, sex offender laws have grown self defeatingly harsh (Economist 655). When sex offenders are added to the registries, it is often felt unfair that the registries enforce harsh punishments for small offenses, sex offender laws punishes the offender and his or her family, and does little to protect the innocent. Sex offenders often get punished for offenses that are small, low risk crimes. It is possible for a person to lose their job or the opportunity to see their children for one tier offenses. Also, offenders can be at risk of being brutally attacked or murdered by being named a sex offender on the database. These offenders will soon become a burden to the economy because of their incapability to stay employed. Eventually, offenders are left relying on welfare with state assistance, and they are viewed as an outsider of the community. As a result of extreme stress, the offender can act out and become a second term offender. The publication of the sex offender s information can bring not only consequences to them, but also to their family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As per a fresh report which employs data of each and every state, a record 2,319,258 citizens were in prison or jail at the beginning of 2008; which means one amongst every 99.1 adults. The increasing rate of prisoners do cost very high to the tax payers as well as other plans of government. US government spent six times more on prison inmates than the rate of increment for higher education expenditure. Another negative impact is that due to budget shortfalls faced by states, they had made a proportionate reduction in expending on education and other social requirement (Levinson 2002, p. 34). The rate of African Americans imprisonment is radically greater than for the total population. A shocking ratio, one out of every nine black men between the ages of 20 and 34 is in jail or prison. • 43. How Did The Western Schism Affect The Catholic Church The Western Schism: And Its Impact on the Catholic Church Jacob Stickney Western Civilization II Professor Jennifer Fast November 14, 2016 The Catholic Church s response to the Western Schism was vastly important to its respectability and authority in regards to the faithful of that time. The Western Schism was only a temporary misunderstanding, even though it compelled the Church for forty years to seek its true head; it was fed by politics and passions, and was terminated by the assembling of the councils of Pisa and Constance. 1 After the Avignon Papacy, the Catholic Church had three men claiming to be pope. One man elected in Rome, one in Avignon, France, and one elected by the Council of Pisa. This was very detrimental to the Catholic theology which states that it can trace every pope back to St. Peter, the first pope. The Catholic faithful were not sure which of the three men was the true pope and which, if any of them, they should listen to. It was a very confusing time for all the faithful living in this time, and a very annoying situation for the true pope who was now seen by many to be as questionable as the other two in regards to not being the true pope. The three men knew what a mess this situation was and two of them wanted to deal with the situation, so as to reduce confusion among the faithful. The anti pope John XXIII called the Council of Constance to deal with this situation. He offered to resign from the papacy, that he was never in possession of, if the other two men would as well. The council met to depose of the two anti popes, to deal with heretical teachings, and to protect the succession of the papacy. This council is one of the most important ecumenical councils, as it helped to affirm the succession of the pope and to help to resolve the confusion caused by these anti popes. The Council of Constance was called in 1414 by the Anti Pope John XXIII. It was called to resolve the conflict regarding the papacy and to identify the true successor of St. Peter. Between November 1414 and June 1415, the council had a total of 13 sessions, dealing with the papacy and how the pope was chosen. The council, enacted Haec Sancta (fifth session, 15 April 1415), ... Some may think that horror films are horrifying, but people still watch them because we like the emotional release that it provides, satisfying the cravings that we have for it. In Stephen King s essay, Why We Crave Horror Movies, he claims that people crave the adrenaline rush that horror gives us. He believes that humans need the relief that horror films bring. No one can live without having some hysterical fear because that is part of the human nature. While many may believe that horror films are terrifying and unpleasant, King s ideas are accurate because the human condition seeks the negative emotions that horror provides. People like to have fun so they watch horror movies because it gives them an unforgettable adrenaline rush. We go to have fun (King, 1). As a part of the human experience, the feeling of being scared is in everyone. Watching horror films is just another way of excitement and having fun. I agree with King when he writes, If pro football has become the voyeur s version of combat, then the horror film has become the modern version of the public lynching (2). A theory of international relations is a collection of concepts that delineate how the international system operates (SparkNote on International Politics, 2010). Contrary to an ideology, a theory of international studies is endorsed with solid evidence. This essay will focus on two dominant theories of International Relations (IR), namely realism and liberalism to decide for this matter on the more pragmatic one for the study of IR. According to realism, states work only to gain more power relative to that of other states (Donelan: 1990:23). Liberalism matured in the 1970s as some scholars generated arguments that realism was defunct. Othello Racial Undertone Essay Nicholas Anderson Dr. Rex English 150 2/27/2014 Racial Undertone s The study in contrasts between Shakespeare s Othello and Tim Blake Nelson s 2001 movie O have many prevalent differences. Issues of jealousy and racial tensions are still deeply rooted into our society and can be examined in theO, Othello, and the Elizabethan era where many of Shakespeare s plays took place. The racial undertone was more prevalent in the movie, although in each interpretation Othello/Odin was the only black individual in each setting. However the most prevalent differences between William Shakespeare s Othello and Tim Blake Nelson s O are the racial undertones shown through cinematic techniques and Othello/Odin s self perception. The director used cinematic techniques and different stereotypes to explore the racial tension between white and black society. Hugo explains the meaning of the hawk in his soliloquy towards the end of the movie. He expresses the thought that Odin is a powerful and majestic hawk, this is something that Hugo desires. Which is controversial because in Othello and O black males usually had aspirations to be seen as a dove. However the image of a black male does not fit into a white ... There is a knowledge that film is scripted for the most part and what we see regularly is rarely real. This does preserve reality in Bazin s mind though. With the kicking of the can, it shows that although it is scripted it is not a fake movie. There is still the sense of reality in every scene. The can saves that, it preserves that sense. The mise en scene in Kiarostami s Close up leans more towards the realistic side. The aspects of this movie continually fall under the category of realistic. With the camera location for some of the shots it makes it realistic. Seeing the scenes from behind car windows or other obstacles makes the scenes real. They are real because it is like you are watching what is going on live right in front of you. The lighting of the movie makes it realistic as well. Turing solved it, but in the process established a system that is still useable today. Am indebted to Oxford university course on computing for the following, which I reproduce without a full understanding. Turing s (successful) approach to the decidability problem involved the design and use of an imaginary machine. This is the same technique...gedanken...that was used by Albert Einstein, in relation to relativity and in Schrodinger s Cat reference quantum mechanics. Turing s machine used a continuous tape, which can be as long as required, which carries a series of cells. This passes under a read/write head that can read and if required change the symbol under it. The head views one symbol at a time and, can: move, or not move, the tape one cell in either direction; read and /or change the symbol written on that cell; or change states. The states are a finite number of conditions, e.g. start, add, carry, return and stop. Different sets of states will be needed for different problems. Turing was able to show that if we first assume a solution does exist then we can show that this would lead to a completely impossible situation. Hence a solution does not exist (proof by contradiction, a standard method in mathematics.). When Turing went to show his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Analysis Of The Chicago Tribune And William Randolph... This pair seized upon the headlines generated from a case involving a woman named Mona Marshall, who alleged that she had been drugged, raped, and forced into prostitution by a pimp. There were elements of her story that were genuinely factual and terribly disturbing, but other parts seemed far fetched. That included a tale in which the police reportedly received a note that she dropped from the window of the brothel where she worked stating, I am a white slave. In addition, Marshall s recounting of events included several contradictions with dates and key details. Nonetheless, The Chicago Tribune and William Randolph Hearst s Chicago American ran wild with the Mona Marshall story and it quickly gained a national audience. Clifford Roe gained recognition nationwide as the prosecutor of that case and he leveraged his newfound fame into more of an activist role. He subsequently published Panders and Their White Slaves and The Girl Who Disappeared, which was later fact checked by a notable sociologist Walter Reckless. He found that Roe used heavily altered statements from prostitutes to advance his agenda. In addition, Reckless studied Chicago s white slave court cases extensively and found that less than 5% of them actually involved women held against their will. In fairness, although Roe s methods were deceptive, one positive result manifested from his work as he successfully lobbied to get much needed sex trafficking laws passed in Illinois.
