Government Roles In Government
Ramona Salvarez:
How is your role in government different from an elected official?
1. My role in government is to overlook cases and evaluate evidence. I make sure that the facts giving
are accurate and that everything is presented fairly and unbiased. Judges serve the people while we are
appointed by the president rather than the people.
I see the differences that you present, but what about their similarities, what makes them alike (judges
and elected officials)?
2. There are many things that make us the alike. We serve for the same purpose, to help the people.
Do you think judges should be elected or appointed by the government and president?
3. I do not think judges should be elected, simply because when people vote they tend to vote

The Readings For Week One Were Crain
The readings for week one were Crain (2005) chapter one and Hutchison (2015) chapter one. The
Crain (2005) chapter discussed Locke and Rousseau and their contributions to developmental theories.
Locke deviated from the previously held beliefs about children as having innate values and innate
beliefs by theorizing that the environment can influence the their personality and abilities. Locke
believed that instead of treating kids like they have the minds of adults, they actually have minds that
are still in the process of forming and are being constantly influenced by external forces (Crain, 2005,
p. 7 8). Rousseau proposed stages of development ranging from infancy to adolescence in which
children view and experience things as inherently different from adults (Crain, 2005, p. 15 17).
Rousseau also believed that children progressed according to an innate and natural course that could
not be forced or altered through social conditioning (Crain, 2005, p. 20). Chapter one of Hutchison
(2015) discusses the way in which the individuals life can be understood through the unfolding of
events and life experiences over time. This is called the Life Course Perspective (Hutchison, 2015, p.
7) Those who subscribe to this perspective and apply it to their practice and theories integrate several
concepts such as cohorts (the group that an individual belongs to according to the time and place in
which they were born), transitions (the changes that occur in an individuals life),

The Bell Jar by Plath
If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I m neurotic as
hell. I ll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my
days (Plath). Plath was in fact a schizophrenic, never really being cured and only receiving
temporarily relief from her own mind with electroshock therapy. Her novel, The Bell Jar, is almost a
self biography with the veil of fiction over the story of Plath s own life being so thin that her mother
fought its publication (McCann 1631). Nevertheless, Plath s immense hard work paid off and it was
published. Writing was Plath s passion and when she wrote, her life became an enthralling story.

I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn t make up my
mind which of the figs I would chose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant
losing all the rest (Plath 75).
To make matters worse, when she arrived home a letter awaited her saying that she had been rejected
from Frank O Connor s short story class. She was almost positive that she would get in and was
deeply devastated when she received the rejection letter. Both the disappointment of New York and the
rejection from the coveted writing class that she counted on started a deep spiral into clinical
depression. Pressure was building up between her mom pushing her to return to her old self and her
inability to sleep or read. Plath felt despondent. She even had an unsuccessful attempt at suicide by
hiding herself away in the crawl space of her cellar and taking an overdose of sleeping pills. However,
Plath was found and immediately institutionalized. Plath described this time as the blackest in her life
saying in A Birthday Present I would have killed myself gladly that time any possible way
(Malmsheimer 531).
Throughout the novel, Sylvia Plath emphasizes the curious similarity of physical and mental illness as
if to say that both are symbolic of a larger condition which is our life today. In the novel, Esther
noticed that everyone she knows sits under bell jars of a sort. However, Plath is no sentimentalist and
knows quite well that her

Literary Elements In The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins
The book The Hunger Games was written by Suzanne Collins and it s the first book out of the trilogy
she has written. Collins uses a mixture of modern and classical as elements in this story and it allows
for any age reader to enjoy it. Some the literary devices she uses in the book are setting, symbolism,
and themes. It s everything you could want in a book because it has a little bit of each genre, like
action, romance, comedy, and even mystery. This book will have you sitting at the edge of your seat
on minute and then grabbing for a tissue the next. When reading this book, The Hunger Games by
Suzanne Collins and looking at the setting, symbolism, and theme it s easy to sense the different tones
and emotions going on in the story.
The book is in the voice of a young 16 year old girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in District 12
which is the poorest district in all of Panem, and all of the districts are controlled by the Capitol. The
character who is in charge of the Capitol is President Snow and he and the people of Panem have
created this entertainment for themselves called the hunger games. The games consists of randomly
drawing one male and one female from each district to compete in the games until one alive remains.
The winner gets to receive an income from the Capitol, to live in a better environment in their district
with their families, and is adored by the Capitol. The day of the reaping, which is the day the names
are randomly drawn was mandatory for

Social Class And Social Work Essay
The purpose of this assignment is to Examine the extent to which social class determines life chances
in contemporary Britain, and explore the relevance of the issue for students on a social work degree.
Within this document I will identify and explore key concepts and approaches in the sociological
analysis of social differentiation in modern society. I will then use these concepts and apply them to
contemporary britain in order to explain how social class influences an individual s life chances. I will
also discuss and examine the value of these theories to students on a social work course.
Sociology is fluid in the way in which theories become less central to sociological thinking as time
progresses. The theory of social class in particular was very prominent throughout the 1950 s 1970 s
where social class divisions were seen as central to understanding differences in opportunity and life
chances. Social class has been defined as a division of a society based on social and economic status.
(1) These theories of social class were developed and studied by the likes of Marx, Weber and
Durkheim. The theory of class has been subject to some criticism however since it fails to explain
other forms of inequality such as race, gender and sexuality. Although there have been many attempts
to link these inequalities to social class, no such connection has been found and other theoretical
approaches have been needed from the likes of Andrew Pilkington, Kathwood Woodward and

A Stakeholder Management Model For Ethical Decision Making
It is important for a business to balance all the different stakeholders that a company might have.
Some stakeholders might have different priorities than others. For example, some shareholders expect
the business to give them only money while others stakeholders need good working conditions. Also,
investors might wish to see proof that the company responds to environmental matters before
promising money to a business. In addition, problems might happen when stakeholders compromise to
the expectation of other stakeholders.
The difference priorities of stakeholders can come into place when organizations have to come up
with a decision, they have to decide which stakeholders should be prioritized. When beginning the
dialogue with a specific stakeholder group, the management should explain from the beginning what
the intended objectives of the dialogue are.
Measure performance: the company should be able to tell how well its stakeholder management
processes are going which of course depends on what objectives the firm has set for a specific
stakeholder engagement process. ( a stakeholder management model for ethical decision
making|Simone de Colle Academia.edu , 2016)
Communication and reporting: corporation provides useful information about stakeholder views and
interests.
Review commitment and policies: Corporate s policies should be reviewed to respond to issues raised
by stakeholders.
Continuous engagement: It is necessary for corporations to have ongoing approach with

The Consequences Of Space Travel And Exploration
1. Space travel and exploration have many benefits, however, there are also some possible
consequences. Space travel is worth it for many reasons. Just like the ocean; space is infinite and there
is another world to discover so to speak. There are so many things that we don t know about the ocean
and space. For one, space is a mystery containing several artifacts, entities, and possible species that
could have the ability to open doors to a whole new universe. There could potentially be life on
another planet or even a planet similar to earth that can support life. However, mankind will never
know unless we opt to explore the kingdom of space.
2. Reasons why some naysayers believe there shouldn t be more space travel is the cost. It costs $500
$700 million every time a space shuttle flies. Additionally, it costs space tourists $20 million to fly to
the space station. Some will ask why spend money on space exploration when there are so many other
things that should take precedence. The Global Positioning System (GPS) was built in 1978 which
cost $12 billion to build it. The Galileo which is Europe s GPS has an estimated cost of $6.3 billion.
The Apollo Space Program started in 1961 1972, and the total cost of the program was $109 billion.
As you can see, space travel is extremely expensive. In addition to the costs of the programs and the
shuttles, is the salary that is paid to the Astronauts. In 1969 Neil Armstrong was paid $20,000 for his
trip to space. In 2012 Astronauts were paid $125,000 for their trip to space so the cost has increased
immensely.
3. Another possible reason that people don t agree with space exploration is that if there are alien
lifeforms, there might be a chance that they will try to harm the human species. The famed physicist
Stephen Hawking is one who believes this to be the case. This is what he had to say on the topic: Such
advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets
they could reach. This statement was mentioned in 2010 on an episode of Into the Universe with
Stephen Hawking. He also stated that Alien civilization would have no problem wiping out the human
race the way a human might wipe out a colony of ants. We

Field Work Winter 2016
I was nervous at first because this was this was my first field work, and had just started the
Therapeutic Recreational program. Nichole Cummins was aware of this and made me comfortable in
my new venture at the St. Joseph s Impatient Rehabilitation Unit. I discussed my goals with her before
starting the field work. The unit is on the 4th floor of the main hospital. Files of patients are filed in a
secure cabinet. My field work was 60 hours of experience. My goals were to learn about
documentation, program planning, and activity modification.

I wrote up an assessment on a therapy session with a 74 year old female as she played Rummickub.
This was the first documentation experience I had during my fieldwork. An example of my first write
up was: Pt initiated 30 min session in TR clinic working on cognition, UE strength, fine motor skills,
scanning, sequencing, math skills, social skills, activity tolerance, memory and direction following
while participating in a table top activity. Pt required min. cues for concentration. Pt demonstrated
willingness to participate in activity initiated conversation. Pt tolerated session well. Cont. POC. This
Pt was a stroke patient with symptoms of overall weakness.
I sat with Nikki as she wrote her documentations, and she read it out loud to me. I was able to write
several assessments with her on Pts. As I arrived for my shift, I checked the clipboard which had the
appointments for the day for each therapist. I also checked several times during my shift the general
appointment board which had the appointments of all physical therapists, speech therapists, and OT
specialists. Most appointments were booked for ½ hour increments, and the appointment board was
situated in the physical therapy room. Most Pts came from their room or another appointment, and
there was a table where Pts waited on their therapist. Offered were also room appointments where the
therapist came to the room called bedside

The Theory Of Ethical Leadership
Explanation of Ethical Leadership
The research of Thomas W. H. Ng and Daniel C. Feldman provides quantitative data, which validates
the effectiveness of Ethical Leadership through the meta analysis of 101 ethical leadership related
studies conducted over the last 15 years. Somewhat in nascent form, Ethical Leadership (Ng Feldman,
2015) is viewed as conduct predicated on exhibiting positive role mode actions while promoting moral
member conduct through collaboration, communication, and reinforcing behavior (Ng Feldman,
2015). Leaders who employ EL are considered to weigh their ethical values significantly during their
transactions with assigned team members. Furthermore, EL also suggests there is a correlation
between how well a leader assess their own values and beliefs prior to exercising referent and reward
power behavior.
Connection to Social Learning Theory
The genesis of EL precepts may have a cultural basis in either Eastern or Western philosophy. In terms
of theoretical impact, it may be impossible to determine which hemisphere has a majority stake
exactly. This may be due to the cultural differences in identification of self within the context of
popular religions such as Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judeo Christian beliefs (Ng
Feldman, 2015). Regardless, the majority of those leaders who demonstrated EL generally exhibited a
psychological motivation to be just. This need may have a basis in social learning theory and even
social exchange

Martin Luther King In Jail Research Paper
While Martin Luther King may have gone to jail a few times, Martin fought for the rights for African
Americans. He was in marches and riots, received many awards and gave the famous speech I have a

Americans. One way was by leading marches like the March on Washington, Selma to Montgomery,
and the Montgomery bus boycott. Although he still had taken part of other events these were the
biggest reasons that led to the free rights of African Americans. He was brave walking through the
crowds yelling how he couldn t, still he kept walking. He was determined to one day that all men

enduring repercussions all through Europe and America. Addressing conventional teachings and
qualities denoted the Enlightenment; there was a prominent propensity towards independence and

both results of the Enlightenment and thoughts of the philosophes, specifically John Locke.

John Locke and Thomas Hobbes each supported human instinct and government amid the seventeenth
century. John Locke advanced a hopeful perspective of human instinct in which they lived under a
legislature that ensured the privileges of the general population; Thomas Hobbes distributed his point
of view of the human soul as negative, trusting the best way to battle its evilness by entire

Analysis Of The Short Story Where Did You Get That Name
What defines the cause that ultimately depicts our take on life? On the surface, people typically see
gender as a definable matter, but fail to consider the variations that exist. Stories provide examples of
infectious reasons one views the world as they do. One s identity influences the authenticity of a
situation presented, maturity affects how one contributes to foul behavior, and those reflecting a wide
variety of experiences are more adaptable to foreign circumstances. The background of an individual
determines their approach and consideration of situations. The short story Where Did You Get That
Name? , by Baratunde Thurston, demonstrates this precisely, when Baratunde, a young Nigerian boy,
finds himself explaining the origin of his name to who he refers to as Father Nigeria, saying I got it
from my parents (Thurston3), only for the interrogation to continue and the man to dismiss his
explanation and ruthlessly assume that Baratunde [had] no history, no culture, no roots...[and] decided
to indict, judge and reject all of African America. (Thurston3). Father Nigeria , being marinated in the
Nigerian Culture all his life, immediately questioned Baratunde s authenticity. Because Baratunde was
only partially Nigerian, this man reverted to his culturally defensive mentality, and undermined
Baratunde s identity. Father Nigeria had come from purely Nigerian roots, and when a Nigerian
exposed to American culture attempted to explain his name, he automatically reacted

because it lets the reader live the story instead of just watching it. The book elaborates more when the

I don t think so. If you go to the bars a lot, then you know who the drinkers are because of their big

immigrant, Frederick John Miller, born November 24, 1824, brought his passion for beer to the United
States. Miller, who had been a renowned German brewer since 1849, arrived in the United States and
settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1855. In 1855, Miller purchased a small brewery called the Plank
Road Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for $2,300. Through his determination and character,
Frederick Miller began building his own American dream barrel by barrel. He produced the finest
quality beer, made from locally grown hops and barley, and using a unique brewer s yeast that he hand
carried from Germany. (The yeast they use in our beers today is a descendant of that very yeast so
treasured by our founder!) Before his death in 1888, Frederick Miller became one of the early pioneers
of bottling beer. After his passing, Frederick Miller s immediate family members continued his legacy,
and guided the company with progressive, uncompromising character through two world wars and
prohibition. In 1903, Miller named its most popular beer, High Life, and the Champagne of Bottled

Preludes
Preludes TS Eliot Relevant Background • Thomas Stearns [TS] Eliot was born in into a wealthy
family in St Louis, Missouri, America in 1888 • He became a British citizen at the age of 39 in 1927.
• His father was president of a brick making company. His mother wrote poetry and was once a
teacher and social volunteer. They were determined to educate Thomas well. • TS Eliot s awareness
of how differently some people lived inspired a lot of the descriptions found in ‘Preludes . •
Through the work of his mother and grandfather TS Eliot became aware of poverty and the boring
reality of peoples lives. • In 1917 he published ‘Preludes . ‘Preludes consists of four short poems,

Or it may be the cab driver. Perhaps Eliot is observing a street prostitute, the ‘you of the poem, as she
stands on the pavement among the withered leaves. • It might be helpful to regard this poem, like the
others, as a video post card of this moment, six o clock on the winter s evening. Eliot used words as
his way of painting the picture. • The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock precisely. • Residents, living
probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening meal all at the same time. They are
probably all workers living in flats. The word ‘passageways suggests the houses have been turned
into flats for rent. Even though it seems a run down part of town, the residents can afford steak. • By
linking the scene here with the ‘stale smells of beer and ‘dingy shades in furnished rooms of
‘Prelude II and the ‘thousand sordid images of ‘Prelude III , one could assume that the Preludes are
set in a red light district of a city. • The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is
beginning. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because
people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word ‘burnt out
. Or is there a humorous suggestion that they over cook the steaks? • The weather is bad; a windy
shower beats on the buildings and on the horse outside. The cold rain evaporates as steam off the

a glass makers shop. Inside the shop there were different glass plates, bowls, and vases in varying
colors as well as crystal necklaces and rings. My cousin Aneia and I went to the back of the shop to

Although student loans are beneficial for an education and a degree, they harm the nation with debt.
According to Andersen, the average student loan debts for college graduates is $37,000. The money
invested in college tuition would have many decisive effects making our country an even better place
to live financially. Corresponding to TradeSchools.net, there are many places around the world that
give students access to a free college education like Finland, Austria, Norway, Germany, and Sweden
(Redd). The idea has a lot of financial benefits of college graduates not being in debt because of the
nation s spending towards their education. It s also very successful, Finland has free college tuition
with 2.08% of their nation s GDP leading the average student loan amounts to $1,200 for living
expenses. In comparison to the United States 1.36% share towards education, drowning the nation in

whole. Results increase the amounts of graduates leading to more chances for our population to
become doctors, lawyers, nurses, or make a living out many other professions that require a post

Impact Of Trade Agreements On An International Scale
I. Introduction
Trade agreements have been around for the past several centuries, and naturally, they have evolved.
Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s
products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade
agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize
circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. Evolving still, trade agreements have now grown into
massive collectives between nations that regulate more than just trade. Moreover, these agreements
have become political tools to cement solidarity between nations, and are used to harmonize economic
regulation on an international scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than just economic integration, however, the TPP presented an opportunity for the United States
to alter the economic power dynamics in the Asia Pacific. As the lead on TPP, the United States would
have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network
surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft
the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder
for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted.
Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and
counteracting China s economic clout in the region. Newly elected President Donald Trump, however,
has already come out and stated his opposition to the TPP; indeed, going so far as to include US
withdrawal from the TPP as part of his agenda for his first day in office.
The TPP has faced public scrutiny during this election year particularly because of the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which has been decried by the public for some time. Loss
of American jobs has largely fueled the outrage at NAFTA, but other issues exist as well. For example,
TPP provisions on investor rights, like in NAFTA the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS)
process would allow international arbitral bodies to hear challenges to a state s legal rules. This

iambic pentameter form and, mostly, there are ten syllables per line, but also there could be lines with
eleven syllables. There are ten syllables in the remaining lines in this poem. Even though it has no
rhyme, Robert Frost uses a subtle internal rhyme and the assonance in some ending terms like wall ,
hill , balls , well and others. It is a narrative poem which employs dialogue to characterize the speaker
s thoughts, as well as the attitudes of his neighbor.
The scheme is five pairs of syllables per line, unstressed followed by stressed, verses ... Show more

Ironically though it seems that wall between the neighbors serves no purpose, the speaker states, It
comes to little more: There where it is we do not need the wall... (Lines 22 23). The awareness of not
needing this wall is clearly seen by the speaker as they emphasize the fact of the neighbor has nothing
but pine trees and the speaker has apple trees will never get across / And eat the cones under his pines
( Lines 25 26). Even after presenting an argument about the uselessness of the wall the neighbor
stubbornly refuses to agree with the speaker statements. The irony of mending the wall, or this act of
neighborliness is that the wall literally keeps them apart but also brings them together with the joint
action of fixing the damages to the wall. The fact that speaker detests the wall yet still helps to
maintain it is irony in all in itself.

The Social Birth Order Theory
The Social Birth Order Theory
In the world of psychology, nature versus nurture is a common theme theorists attribute to differences
in the personalities of children. However, there may be other influences that have greater impact early
in life. When it comes to the disposition of a person, the order in which they were born within a family
leaves an ineffaceable effect. A child s inclination toward certain personality traits can be the result of
their inherent position within their family. Many famous psychologists theorize about and study the
effects of family birth order among siblings. The most renowned psychologist in the world, Sigmund
Freud, broke away from a group of his original psychoanalysts due to a dispute about birth ... Show

They mature as only children, pampered and the center of attention, until their siblings are born and
they are dethroned (Allpsych). First born children, when compared to their siblings, tend to have a
greater chance of developing feelings of inferiority as their focal position in the family structure is
altered by the birth of a sibling (Bnet). They often are especially vulnerable to stress, and have a
strong desire to gain attention and seek the approval of others (Allpysch). Unlike the independent
leaders only children become, oldest children can be left feeling cheated and unsuccessful. Adler
himself was a middle child of three. His categories of second born and middle children of large
families are almost identical. The second born child can be epitomized by a dream in which the child
is constantly running but going nowhere (Webspace). They are constantly overshadowed by their older
siblings. However, they do tend to have stronger social skills (Bnet). Second and middle children
become very spontaneous and adaptable from constantly dealing with both older and younger siblings.
Having children both older and younger in the family seems to leave a positive influence on middle
children. While the oldest and youngest may team up together, the second becomes the mediator
between the two. This obviously leaves a lasting effect on their personality as second born children are
often predominant in fighting injustice later in life

Life In Tropical Rainforests In The Tropical Rainforests
We may not realize it but many of our everyday necessities come from all sorts of things that live in
nature. Whether it s paper or beauty products, we rely on nature for certain things we need and use.
What we also may not realize is the demands for certain necessities are the reason why all life within
nature decreases. This is primarily focused on tropical rainforests. Over the years we have slowly
decreased life within them. We have even cut down parts or entire rainforests to make space for
certain facilities we use. This is bad for us and for all life within rainforests. We are destroying the
homes of many plants and wild life as well as the air that we breath. If we continue to harvest parts of
rainforests it could destroy all the life that inhabits it forever. Rainforests are in Brazil, Southeast Asia,
the Pacific Islands and West Africa. During the day, their average temperature within them is eighty
eight degrees Fahrenheit. Once it gets to be later in the evening, the temperature decreases to an
average of seventy two degrees Fahrenheit. At one point, they covered about fourteen percent of the
earth s surface. After years of them being harvested, currently they now only cover roughly six percent
of the earth s surface. They receive anywhere from one hundred and sixty to four hundred inches of
rain a year. Rain itself occurs about two hundred and fifty days a year. The rainforest is one of the
earth s best recyclers, because seventy five percent of the water

The Princess Ideal Beauty And The Beast
As I walk down Main Street USA at Disneyworld in Florida, with the smell of fresh baked candy
sitting in the air, and seeing the dressed up characters walking around, seeing all the little girls dressed
up as their favorite princesses, I can t help but wonder how Walt Disney took something from his
imagination and made it into what it is today. Growing up, every little girl dreams of being just like
the princesses that they see in their favorite Disney films. Whether that be Jasmine from Aladdin, or
Belle from Beauty and the Beast, every little girl dreams of finding their own prince charming, getting
married, and living in a castle far far away. Even when we look around in our society, we see the
princess ideal that is shown to young girls, where ever we look we are shown this. When little girls
first see a Disney Princess, they are presented with the ideal women, long perfect hair, flawless skin,
small waist, and long legs. Also, most of the time (minus Cinderella) always have flawless clothing
that they wear. This appeals to almost every little girl that sees this, and reinforces the ideal that little
girls need to be like the princesses that they see on the movie and television. Disney has regularly
played up the role of the female in their films and television shows. Now, whenever we look back at
these movies and television shows as we are older, we can now see these roles that we could not see as
children. Now, when we watch a Disney film, or show, we are

Inequality In Terms Of Social Inequality
In terms of social division, according to Oxford (2013), social mobility has fallen rapidly in many
country as inequality has grown. Oxford (2013) argues that the wealthy focus only on better education
and healthcare for their own families, rather than helping public services or paying the taxes to support
them. If the division continues, then there will be a side of social ills, including violence, mental
health, crime and obesity. Oxford (2013) also states that unequal societies not only negatively affect
the poor, but also affect the rich.
Environmental destruction, according to Oxford (2013), comes from inequality because the wealthy
have been estimate to use as much as 10,000 times more carbon than the average US citizen. There is
also the issue of monopoly, where resources like land and water are reserved from potential societal
good. Resources become more scarce. Oxford (2013) states that if societies were more equal, then
they would be better equipped to deal with natural disasters, as well as carbon emissions.
Equalitytrust.org has data that reveals patterns of the social costs of inequality. Inequality affects the
physical health United States. If there was a more equal United States, then people are predicted to
live almost a year, or more longer (The Equality Trust, 2014). Mental health is also a part of the social
costs. A more equal society would lead to an improvement of five percent, or more in mental health
(The Equality Trust, 2014).

Mission Statement Of A Company
Mission Statement:
The mission statement of a company is the first step in the strategic management framework
(Okumus). It is a statement that briefly describes the purpose for the existence of the company, in
other words, why the company was created. This statement is important to the success of an
organization because it is the foundation that organizational plans, strategies, and decisions are made
from. The mission statement of a company communicates to it stakeholders about a company s
products, services, targeted customers, geographic markets, philosophies, and values and plans for
future growth (strategic management insight). Below is the current mission statement of Coca Cola:

Over all the mission statement of Coca Cola does not explain to its stakeholders the reason for the
company s creation clearly enough to be the focus of the company. This could cause problems when
the company is formulating strategies, planning for the future, or making daily decisions that should
be guided by the purpose of the company. Since Coca Cola does not have its mission statement clearly
defined it could be seen as a threat on a SWOT analysis because this ultimately can affect the
company. Employees within the company may interrupt the mission statement differently and
therefore implement a plan of action that does not meet up with the purpose of the company resulting
in damage to the stakeholders.
Vision Statement/Goals:
Where the mission statement is there to clearly state the purpose of the creation of the business the
vision statement is created to state the ultimate goals of the company. This statement answers the

The Diary of Anne Frank Essay
The Diary of Anne Frank
In this project, I will be comparing the life of Anne Frank to mine.
Firstly, I will give a brief timeline of the main events that took place in her lifetime. Then I will begin
to compare the various aspects of her life to mine. Finally, I will draw up a conclusion.
Annelies Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany, just 60 years before I was, 1929. During the
first three years of her life, The
Great Depression happened. The National Socialist Party began to gain support. In 1933, Hitler was
made Chancellor. This was the same year that Otto Frank and his family moved to Holland. A year
later Anne began school and in 1935 Juden Verboten ( No Jews ) appeared on signs in restaurants and

Otto Frank is the soul survivor from the annex.
Anne had a fairly middle class life up until she moved to Holland.
There she made new friends, but lived a lesser lifestyle. The only comparison I can think of is when I
moved to middle school. I was the only one to go to Lindisfarne from my first school, it was hard at
first, but I soon made new friends. Obviously moving countries is much harder than schools so I can
only imagine what it would have been like for Anne.
It wasn t long before her eleventh birthday, around the same time that
Jews were starting to be erased from Germany. At this time, Anne had to go to an all Jewish school.
This was her first experience of other people hating her because of her own religion.
Anne wasn t able to speak to her friends, go to the cinema/theatre, go shopping, use a telephone or
even go to the park. All of her everyday activities and rights were taken away. If this happened to me,
I don t know what I would do to keep entertained.
All this time spent in Holland, her father had foreseen what was happening and was planning to go
into hiding. It finally happened in
1942. Anne was thirteen and had received the famous diary, her elder sister; Margot had been called in
for a work camp. This was the final signal Otto needed. They moved into the secret annexe on July
6th,
1942. A week later they were joined by the Van Daan family and Mr

■ How do you see the relations between Egypt and Eritrea?
The relations between the two countries are in good shape, since the time of the late President Gamal
Abdel Nasser. They are deep strategic and historical relations. Egypt has helped Eritrea in the time of
its armed struggle to gain independence, and it provided us with arms, financial, and political support.
It also helped our students and established a home for them. And it opened its colleges and universities

■ You talked about Egypt s support to Eritrea during the era of President Abdel Nasser. What about the
relations between the two countries under President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi?
The common factor between Nasser and Al Sisi is that they have an honest approach towards Africa,
but there are differences in the political conditions and factors in the region between the eras of the
two presidents. During the era of Nasser, the revolutionary tide, liberation movements and pan Arab

Edna St. Vincent Millay s Sonnet I, Being Born a Woman...
Edna St. Vincent Millay s Sonnet I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed
Edna St. Vincent Millay s sonnet, I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed, serves as an excellent
example of a multi faceted piece. From one angle, it is simply a Petrarchan sonnet, written with a
slight variation on rhyme scheme but that variation, taken deeper, reveals new layers of meaning.
Added to Millay s choice of meter and end stop, along with a background of Millay s person, this
sonnet seems not so simple after all.
Millay, though she married in 1923, was known to have extramarital affairs, purportedly with both
women and men. (wikipedia.com) In the context of this particular sonnet, such seems revealing indeed

In Wordsworth s sonnet, he uses only the four rhymes to show that, even in constraining himself, he is
still free. He may be confined to a cell or a rhyme scheme, but it is in such confinements that he finds
liberty. Millay, too, is playing off of this idea simply by being a woman she is confined by society, but
through her poetry she can recognized for the brilliant writer she is; hence, she quite literally frees her
poetic reputation by constraining herself to such strict bounds. The irony in this reference to
Wordsworth s work, however, is the contrasting subject matters he writes of metaphorical nuns, while
she writes of rejection and lovers.
The second interpretation of Millay s constrained rhyme scheme is a fair bit simpler. Her choice of
words throughout the work is calm and cool distanced from the audience. There is none of the anger
that usually accompanies a lovers breakup; Millay is reserved, restraining her emotions. This
translates through to her rhyme scheme, which is also reserved. Here, she pulls back both from her
lover, and from tradition.
The sonnet s meter, on the other hand, is a bit more erratic, and betrays more feeling. Most of the
piece is in a steady iambic pentameter, but it varies four times just after the turn (line 8) of the sonnet.

The Berlin Wall s Impact On Economic, Social And...
The Berlin wall had a highly significant impact on the economic, social and political relations between
West and East Europe. It stood from 1961 1989 as a physical reminder of that divide, a daily reminder
of the divide that still influences the nation today, and a physical barrier in which 138 East Germans
died trying to cross. So dire was the Berlin Wall that Heinrich Albertz, an aide to West Berlin Mayor,
compared it to as if; They are cutting up a city, cutting into living flesh without anesthesia . Thus it can
be observed that so high was its importance, that only after the Berlin wall was abolished in that the
cold war was finally coming to an end and so traumatising was its presence that Berlin has yet to fully
recover.
In order to come to a conclusion about the impact of the Berlin wall, one must first understand the
context of which it came to be. At the end of the second world war, the disintegration of German
central authority allowed allied powers to take control of Germany. During the February of 1945, the
allied victors held the Yalta conference, a committee focused on the dismemberment of Germany, in
order to come to a conclusion on the current German question . This can be regarded as the defining
moment of which the division between East and West Europe became apparent. As victors struggled
with their losses and the defeated nations lost international favor, the Soviet Union and USA began a
power struggle to become the new global powerhouse. The Potsdam

Prescriptive Norms Research Paper
Question No 1 Answer: prescriptive and proscriptive norms:
Prescriptive norms are silently understood precepts of expected behavior, closely related to manners
and good conduct, while proscriptive norms are taboo or otherwise unacceptable actions and
behaviors that likewise remain undiscussed. Both sets of norms differ between cultures.
Both prescriptive and proscriptive norms are defined by the expectation that individuals will intuit
their existence while growing to adulthood and entering society. They are seldom discussed openly or
in conversation, existing instead as a kind of road map for general behavior.
Examples of prescriptive norms include:

One group may consider a norm prescriptive while another group might regard it as proscriptive. In
the United States, kissing the cheek of our friend is regarded as prescriptive folkway but it is
proscriptive mores among Muslims especially when it is done in opposite sexes because this is
considered strange. Chinese locals in Guangzi province consider eating live fish a prescriptive
folkway but the Chinese in some part of Hongkong call it an unusual eating behavior. Moreover,
norms like eating bugs in Thailand, Nepal and Malaysia is a prescriptive folkway but it is proscriptive
folkway in some neighboring countries like Singapore and Taiwan. This is a proof that norms vary.
Also, norms in one group may be considered prescriptive during one time and it may later be
considered as proscriptive or vice versa from proscriptive to prescriptive. For example, the Protestants
20 years ago frown at going to theatres or pubs but now it is an accepted folkway. The Pakistanis and
Indians prescribe the wearing of turban in their ancient culture but now we can see it to be proscriptive
in some cultural groups especially those who are in the United States. Again, this also a proof that

Prostate Cancer In Men Essay
Long waist men have a higher risk of developing more aggressive types of prostate cancer, a new
study suggests.
A survey of 140,000 men in eight European countries showed that 10 cm more in abdominal

The largest group at risk, however, was men with a waistline greater than 94 cm, according to the

Nietzsche s Influence On Religion
Friedrich Nietzsche on Religion
Friedrich Nietzsche was born in Germany and was originally a very religious person. But while he
was studying Theology the study of religion from University of Bonn, he became a loyal atheist after
reading Arthur Schopenhauer s Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung. Nietzsche is the most. There can
be little doubt that Nietzsche is the most influential figure in modern atheism.
Friedrich Nietzsche was one of the most interesting, litigious and probably one of the clearest thinkers
in western history. His philosophy still fascinates enthusiasts and the curious till date. He is considered
one of the fathers of a still popular philosophical movement called existentialism. He was of the view
that people are free and they can control their destiny on their own. They are capable of having a good
life if they want. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the philosophy of religion by Nietzsche has

this weak man as a superior human who will be without fear. So Nietzsche was sure that one day the

the reason for leaving love in the dust. Getting married young can be a great way to establish yourself
to live a happy, enjoyable, successful life with someone you love. There are many critical decisions at
this stage in life that will impact a newlywed s future together. Preparing for a wedding is quite the
burden to be taken on for young couples who may be at university; or perhaps, already started their
career, but if they know it is what they want to do there is no question if the stress and pressure are
worth it. One of the most stressful decisions for young newlywed couples is where to spend their
honeymoon, rest assured the answer is here: all young newlyweds should go on a cruise for their
honeymoon.
A major reason for young newlyweds to go on a cruise for their honeymoon is because of the
relaxation and rejuvenation they will receive. The revitalization is needed, for planning for a wedding
can stress a couple out for months, in addition to the everyday stresses of life. Many critics may attest
that going on a cruise can be the opposite of relaxing because of the hundreds of other passengers. A

Rights And Responsibilities Of U.s. Citizens
Rights and Responsibilities of U.S. Citizens
Become a citizen of one of the best nations in the world is a privilege that not many people have. I m
talking about the United States of America. If you are an U.S natural born citizen you have rights and
responsibilities that protect you based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution.
People who are in the position to become U.S. citizens gain the same rights, privileges, and
responsibilities of citizenship as natural born American with the only restriction that they can t be
eligible for President of the United States.
The United States Constitution protects the rights of every U.S. citizen from every background,
culture or religion. Here are some of the rights and responsibilities that every citizen should exercise
and respect to ensures that America continues to be a free and prosperous nation.
Before I start describing some of the rights and responsibilities it s important to talk about the
difference between these two. Rights are what protect you as individual in a society, things that the
government has established for good in benefit of the citizens written on the Constitution and
responsibilities is what makes you morally or ethically accountable in society, in other words rights
are given to you from the government as a form of privilege and responsibilities is how you repay or

A Brief Note On The Police Body Camera

ENGL 101T
30 Nov. 2016
Through an officer s eye A man in Seattle was arrested for a peaceful protest early this year, and his
arrest was recorded on a police body camera. He hasn t yet had his day in court, but the footage of his
arrest, name, address and date of birth are all made public records (Sullivan n.p.). Those supporting
these cameras say it is their right to see the footage, but by enabling those rights the right to privacy
for victims and officers become second class. The show Cops has been around for 28 seasons and has
highlighted the scenes of which police encounter every day. It s not pretty, but those filmed are asked
to sign off on permission to use the footage. If they don t sign the footage can t be used, this is
allowing suspects their due privacy. Police body cameras invade officers and suspects rights to privacy
and provide too much transparency. The primary disadvantage of police body cameras is that they
infringe on the simple privacy rights of officers and those who they interact with. Unlike the show
these officers would not be able to get a signed release from every person in their film. A policy to
release all police recorded videos could mean footage of the inside of a person s home or a hospital
would be available (Sullivan n.p.). The body camera footage could show the inside of officers homes
and other private situations (Sullivan n.p.). This footage of a home, hospital or morgue shows that the

  • 2. Government Roles In Government Ramona Salvarez: How is your role in government different from an elected official? 1. My role in government is to overlook cases and evaluate evidence. I make sure that the facts giving are accurate and that everything is presented fairly and unbiased. Judges serve the people while we are appointed by the president rather than the people. I see the differences that you present, but what about their similarities, what makes them alike (judges and elected officials)? 2. There are many things that make us the alike. We serve for the same purpose, to help the people. Do you think judges should be elected or appointed by the government and president? 3. • 3. The Readings For Week One Were Crain The readings for week one were Crain (2005) chapter one and Hutchison (2015) chapter one. The Crain (2005) chapter discussed Locke and Rousseau and their contributions to developmental theories. Locke deviated from the previously held beliefs about children as having innate values and innate beliefs by theorizing that the environment can influence the their personality and abilities. Locke believed that instead of treating kids like they have the minds of adults, they actually have minds that are still in the process of forming and are being constantly influenced by external forces (Crain, 2005, p. 7 8). Rousseau proposed stages of development ranging from infancy to adolescence in which children view and experience things as inherently different from adults (Crain, 2005, p. 15 17). Rousseau also believed that children progressed according to an innate and natural course that could not be forced or altered through social conditioning (Crain, 2005, p. 20). Chapter one of Hutchison (2015) discusses the way in which the individuals life can be understood through the unfolding of events and life experiences over time. This is called the Life Course Perspective (Hutchison, 2015, p. 7) Those who subscribe to this perspective and apply it to their practice and theories integrate several concepts such as cohorts (the group that an individual belongs to according to the time and place in which they were born), transitions (the changes that occur in an individuals life), ... • 4. The Bell Jar by Plath If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I m neurotic as hell. I ll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days (Plath). Plath was in fact a schizophrenic, never really being cured and only receiving temporarily relief from her own mind with electroshock therapy. Her novel, The Bell Jar, is almost a self biography with the veil of fiction over the story of Plath s own life being so thin that her mother fought its publication (McCann 1631). Nevertheless, Plath s immense hard work paid off and it was published. Writing was Plath s passion and when she wrote, her life became an enthralling story. Sylvia Plath s late teenage years, time right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn t make up my mind which of the figs I would chose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest (Plath 75). To make matters worse, when she arrived home a letter awaited her saying that she had been rejected from Frank O Connor s short story class. She was almost positive that she would get in and was deeply devastated when she received the rejection letter. Both the disappointment of New York and the rejection from the coveted writing class that she counted on started a deep spiral into clinical depression. Pressure was building up between her mom pushing her to return to her old self and her inability to sleep or read. Plath felt despondent. She even had an unsuccessful attempt at suicide by hiding herself away in the crawl space of her cellar and taking an overdose of sleeping pills. However, Plath was found and immediately institutionalized. Plath described this time as the blackest in her life saying in A Birthday Present I would have killed myself gladly that time any possible way (Malmsheimer 531). Throughout the novel, Sylvia Plath emphasizes the curious similarity of physical and mental illness as if to say that both are symbolic of a larger condition which is our life today. In the novel, Esther noticed that everyone she knows sits under bell jars of a sort. However, Plath is no sentimentalist and knows quite well that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Literary Elements In The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins The book The Hunger Games was written by Suzanne Collins and it s the first book out of the trilogy she has written. Collins uses a mixture of modern and classical as elements in this story and it allows for any age reader to enjoy it. Some the literary devices she uses in the book are setting, symbolism, and themes. It s everything you could want in a book because it has a little bit of each genre, like action, romance, comedy, and even mystery. This book will have you sitting at the edge of your seat on minute and then grabbing for a tissue the next. When reading this book, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and looking at the setting, symbolism, and theme it s easy to sense the different tones and emotions going on in the story. The book is in the voice of a young 16 year old girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in District 12 which is the poorest district in all of Panem, and all of the districts are controlled by the Capitol. The character who is in charge of the Capitol is President Snow and he and the people of Panem have created this entertainment for themselves called the hunger games. The games consists of randomly drawing one male and one female from each district to compete in the games until one alive remains. The winner gets to receive an income from the Capitol, to live in a better environment in their district with their families, and is adored by the Capitol. • 6. Social Class And Social Work Essay The purpose of this assignment is to Examine the extent to which social class determines life chances in contemporary Britain, and explore the relevance of the issue for students on a social work degree. Within this document I will identify and explore key concepts and approaches in the sociological analysis of social differentiation in modern society. I will then use these concepts and apply them to contemporary britain in order to explain how social class influences an individual s life chances. I will also discuss and examine the value of these theories to students on a social work course. Sociology is fluid in the way in which theories become less central to sociological thinking as time progresses. The theory of social class in particular was very prominent throughout the 1950 s 1970 s where social class divisions were seen as central to understanding differences in opportunity and life chances. Social class has been defined as a division of a society based on social and economic status. (1) These theories of social class were developed and studied by the likes of Marx, Weber and Durkheim. The theory of class has been subject to some criticism however since it fails to explain other forms of inequality such as race, gender and sexuality. Although there have been many attempts to link these inequalities to social class, no such connection has been found and other theoretical approaches have been needed from the likes of Andrew Pilkington, Kathwood Woodward and ... • 7. A Stakeholder Management Model For Ethical Decision Making It is important for a business to balance all the different stakeholders that a company might have. Some stakeholders might have different priorities than others. For example, some shareholders expect the business to give them only money while others stakeholders need good working conditions. Also, investors might wish to see proof that the company responds to environmental matters before promising money to a business. In addition, problems might happen when stakeholders compromise to the expectation of other stakeholders. The difference priorities of stakeholders can come into place when organizations have to come up with a decision, they have to decide which stakeholders should be prioritized. When beginning the dialogue with a specific stakeholder group, the management should explain from the beginning what the intended objectives of the dialogue are. Measure performance: the company should be able to tell how well its stakeholder management processes are going which of course depends on what objectives the firm has set for a specific stakeholder engagement process. ( a stakeholder management model for ethical decision making|Simone de Colle Academia.edu , 2016) Communication and reporting: corporation provides useful information about stakeholder views and interests. Review commitment and policies: Corporate s policies should be reviewed to respond to issues raised by stakeholders. Continuous engagement: It is necessary for corporations to have ongoing approach with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Consequences Of Space Travel And Exploration 1. Space travel and exploration have many benefits, however, there are also some possible consequences. Space travel is worth it for many reasons. Just like the ocean; space is infinite and there is another world to discover so to speak. There are so many things that we don t know about the ocean and space. For one, space is a mystery containing several artifacts, entities, and possible species that could have the ability to open doors to a whole new universe. There could potentially be life on another planet or even a planet similar to earth that can support life. However, mankind will never know unless we opt to explore the kingdom of space. 2. Reasons why some naysayers believe there shouldn t be more space travel is the cost. It costs $500 $700 million every time a space shuttle flies. Additionally, it costs space tourists $20 million to fly to the space station. Some will ask why spend money on space exploration when there are so many other things that should take precedence. The Global Positioning System (GPS) was built in 1978 which cost $12 billion to build it. The Galileo which is Europe s GPS has an estimated cost of $6.3 billion. The Apollo Space Program started in 1961 1972, and the total cost of the program was $109 billion. As you can see, space travel is extremely expensive. In addition to the costs of the programs and the shuttles, is the salary that is paid to the Astronauts. In 1969 Neil Armstrong was paid $20,000 for his trip to space. In 2012 Astronauts were paid $125,000 for their trip to space so the cost has increased immensely. 3. Another possible reason that people don t agree with space exploration is that if there are alien lifeforms, there might be a chance that they will try to harm the human species. The famed physicist Stephen Hawking is one who believes this to be the case. This is what he had to say on the topic: Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they could reach. This statement was mentioned in 2010 on an episode of Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking. He also stated that Alien civilization would have no problem wiping out the human race the way a human might wipe out a colony of ants. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nichole Cummins was aware of this and made me comfortable in my new venture at the St. Joseph s Impatient Rehabilitation Unit. I discussed my goals with her before starting the field work. The unit is on the 4th floor of the main hospital. Files of patients are filed in a secure cabinet. My field work was 60 hours of experience. Pt required min. cues for concentration. Pt demonstrated willingness to participate in activity initiated conversation. Pt tolerated session well. Cont. POC. This Pt was a stroke patient with symptoms of overall weakness. I sat with Nikki as she wrote her documentations, and she read it out loud to me. I was able to write several assessments with her on Pts. As I arrived for my shift, I checked the clipboard which had the appointments for the day for each therapist. I also checked several times during my shift the general appointment board which had the appointments of all physical therapists, speech therapists, and OT specialists. Most appointments were booked for ½ hour increments, and the appointment board was situated in the physical therapy room. Most Pts came from their room or another appointment, and there was a table where Pts waited on their therapist. • 10. The Theory Of Ethical Leadership Explanation of Ethical Leadership The research of Thomas W. H. Ng and Daniel C. Feldman provides quantitative data, which validates the effectiveness of Ethical Leadership through the meta analysis of 101 ethical leadership related studies conducted over the last 15 years. Somewhat in nascent form, Ethical Leadership (Ng Feldman, 2015) is viewed as conduct predicated on exhibiting positive role mode actions while promoting moral member conduct through collaboration, communication, and reinforcing behavior (Ng Feldman, 2015). Leaders who employ EL are considered to weigh their ethical values significantly during their transactions with assigned team members. Furthermore, EL also suggests there is a correlation between how well a leader assess their own values and beliefs prior to exercising referent and reward power behavior. Connection to Social Learning Theory The genesis of EL precepts may have a cultural basis in either Eastern or Western philosophy. In terms of theoretical impact, it may be impossible to determine which hemisphere has a majority stake exactly. This may be due to the cultural differences in identification of self within the context of popular religions such as Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judeo Christian beliefs (Ng Feldman, 2015). Regardless, the majority of those leaders who demonstrated EL generally exhibited a psychological motivation to be just. This need may have a basis in social learning theory and even social exchange ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Analysis Of The Short Story Where Did You Get That Name What defines the cause that ultimately depicts our take on life? On the surface, people typically see gender as a definable matter, but fail to consider the variations that exist. Stories provide examples of infectious reasons one views the world as they do. One s identity influences the authenticity of a situation presented, maturity affects how one contributes to foul behavior, and those reflecting a wide variety of experiences are more adaptable to foreign circumstances. The background of an individual determines their approach and consideration of situations. The short story Where Did You Get That Name? , by Baratunde Thurston, demonstrates this precisely, when Baratunde, a young Nigerian boy, finds himself explaining the origin of his name to who he refers to as Father Nigeria, saying I got it from my parents (Thurston3), only for the interrogation to continue and the man to dismiss his explanation and ruthlessly assume that Baratunde [had] no history, no culture, no roots...[and] decided to indict, judge and reject all of African America. (Thurston3). Father Nigeria , being marinated in the Nigerian Culture all his life, immediately questioned Baratunde s authenticity. Because Baratunde was only partially Nigerian, this man reverted to his culturally defensive mentality, and undermined Baratunde s identity. Father Nigeria had come from purely Nigerian roots, and when a Nigerian exposed to American culture attempted to explain his name, he automatically reacted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We all have heard the saying sex sells but how far can alcohol companies take it. In their latest commercials, Miller uses two very attractive female twins that argue about to positive aspects for why they drink Miller. Miller, who had been a renowned German brewer since 1849, arrived in the United States and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1855. In 1855, Miller purchased a small brewery called the Plank Road Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for $2,300. Through his determination and character, Frederick Miller began building his own American dream barrel by barrel. He produced the finest quality beer, made from locally grown hops and barley, and using a unique brewer s yeast that he hand carried from Germany. (The yeast they use in our beers today is a descendant of that very yeast so treasured by our founder!) Before his death in 1888, Frederick Miller became one of the early pioneers of bottling beer. After his passing, Frederick Miller s immediate family members continued his legacy, and guided the company with progressive, uncompromising character through two world wars and prohibition. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word ‘burnt out . Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. As the lead on TPP, the United States would have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted. Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and counteracting China s economic clout in the region. However, there may be other influences that have greater impact early in life. A child s inclination toward certain personality traits can be the result of their inherent position within their family. The irony in this reference to Wordsworth s work, however, is the contrasting subject matters he writes of metaphorical nuns, while she writes of rejection and lovers. It stood from 1961 1989 as a physical reminder of that divide, a daily reminder of the divide that still influences the nation today, and a physical barrier in which 138 East Germans died trying to cross. So dire was the Berlin Wall that Heinrich Albertz, an aide to West Berlin Mayor, compared it to as if; They are cutting up a city, cutting into living flesh without anesthesia . Thus it can be observed that so high was its importance, that only after the Berlin wall was abolished in that the cold war was finally coming to an end and so traumatising was its presence that Berlin has yet to fully recover. Sociological Imagination On Low Self-Esteem In this paper I will use sociological imagination to connect my personal experience to dealing with low self esteem in the theme of impression management. As a young girl, I ve always struggled with low self esteem. Starting at the age of 15, I was so worried about trying to catch up with these unreachable standards of beauty that I eventually lost sight of who I was especially when it came to social media. There were times when I d try to change the way I looked just to impress guys or just to even be considered as physically attractive. Society and the media has brought on a lot of pressure for me, like the desire to want to look good or be someone that I m not. I was always a Tomboy through out most of my ... I was a very introverted girl who didn t have very much friends in high school and the fact that I got bullied almost every day for the way that I looked contributed to my self esteem issues. I felt like I wasn t accepted for who I was. There were also times when I d find myself scrolling through my newsfeed to see all of these attractive young women with their curvaceous body posing in their bikinis on Instagram or Facebook. I would look at them and think how could I ever compete with that. These were the type of females I ve seen people praising all the time and I wanted to look like that. I then started changing my appearance and would start wearing more revealing clothes. Sometimes I wouldn t even leave the house or take a photo without dressing up or wearing caked on makeup because I thought people would think that I was unattractive. The potential of being rejected by others for being myself really bothered me. Social Media also gave me that ability to be someone more interesting or make my life more exciting than it actually was, but in reality I was just a regular girl who was trying really hard to please ... • 39. A Brief Note On The Police Body Camera Jordyn Hanson Sara Gillis ENGL 101T 30 Nov. 2016 Through an officer s eye A man in Seattle was arrested for a peaceful protest early this year, and his arrest was recorded on a police body camera. He hasn t yet had his day in court, but the footage of his arrest, name, address and date of birth are all made public records (Sullivan n.p.). Those supporting these cameras say it is their right to see the footage, but by enabling those rights the right to privacy for victims and officers become second class. The show Cops has been around for 28 seasons and has highlighted the scenes of which police encounter every day. It s not pretty, but those filmed are asked to sign off on permission to use the footage. If they don t sign the footage can t be used, this is allowing suspects their due privacy. Police body cameras invade officers and suspects rights to privacy and provide too much transparency. The primary disadvantage of police body cameras is that they infringe on the simple privacy rights of officers and those who they interact with. Unlike the show these officers would not be able to get a signed release from every person in their film. A policy to release all police recorded videos could mean footage of the inside of a person s home or a hospital would be available (Sullivan n.p.). The body camera footage could show the inside of officers homes and other private situations (Sullivan n.p.). This footage of a home, hospital or morgue shows that the footage is ...
