Describe Benihana As An Operating System
1. Describe Benihana as an operating system. Draw a process flow diagram.
In a general sense, Benihana s operating system is comparable to your typical American dining
restaurant, except that the main entrees are cooked in front of the patrons, which stands as their core
differentiator. Since we are given a broad sense of the times for each process, it is most valuable to
evaluate their operating system as a process flow (below) based on the experience from the moment
the customers walks in to the time they leave.
Upon entering and announcing themselves, they can either wait or defer to the lounge for alcohol.
Once seated by the waitress, their order is placed, including beverages, soup and salad. After a brief

To owner, Rocky Aoki and his team, their understanding on consumer patterns became their
advantage; the consumer s distrust of exotic food and their enjoyment of eating in exotic surroundings,
and the customer s interest in watching their food cooked. Though unique, this system allows the
business for greater control on the flow and options given to the customer.
On the menu, a variety of appetizers, soup, salad and beverages are offered; however, the limited
option to the main entrée: steak, shrimp or chicken allows for the business to control their food
expense at a minimal rate of 30 35% in sales. Consequently, less options also equates to less waste
since there s less to prep and the majority of each ingredient is utilized for show or consumption (i.e.
end pieces of steak is used for show and rarely eaten). When prepped and brought out, the chef does
not risk using too much or too little ingredients since it is all portioned and easily prepped to order in
the kitchen.
As part of the experience, more attentive service is given to the patrons, whereby a waitress and chef
is designated for each party. Since there are only two tables with each table serving up to eight patrons
at a time the waitress and chef are not overwhelmed. The direct attention given to the patrons by the
chefs is savored by patrons; Rocky prides the company s extensive three year formal

Direct Animal Interactions
Organisms in our society are always interacting with one another on a daily basis. These interactions
impact the fate of the organisms lives, and that of the rest of the ecosystem. These interactions can
either be direct and indirect. A direct organism affects an organism without outside interferences,
while an indirect organism interaction is when an organism interacts an organism by its effects on a
third organism. The three different direct interactions are competition in which both organisms
interacting or negatively effect, mutualism in which both organisms benefit from the direct
interactions, and predation in which one organism benefits from the interaction while the other one
does not. Trophic cascades are found in ecological communities and directly impact the interactions of

will be examined. The Ulva would be expected to dominate over the Fucus distichus because the Ulva
is the superior space competitor. The Ulva grows and populates much faster, so would be able to take
over an area with no animals around. In an area with large herbivorous snails you would expect the
Fucus distichus to dominate because snails typically eat Ulva, allowing the Fucus distichus to
dominate because they have a chemical protection. In an area with a large crab population, you would
expect the Ulva sp. to dominate because the Asian shore crabs eat periwinkle snails, resulting in more
Ulva sp. because there won t be enough snails to eat them. If there is a presence of Asian shore crabs,
the Ulva sp. will dominate in a community over the Fucus distichus the Asian shore crab will eat the
periwinkle snail and allow for the ulva to prosper without the fear of a predator and dominate space
over the Fucus

Lewis Carroll Research Paper
Lewis Carroll is the name most perceive as the author of the Alice stories. However, lesser known is
the other Lewis Carroll, a man by the name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson; a genius mathematician
and photographer, a clever man of logic, and a religious student of Christ Church College in Oxford.
Born on January 27, 1832 in Daresbury, England, Dodgson in his sincerity was an individual of
copious creativity and ingenuity which occupied his childhood years. Growing up in the isolated
countryside village, Charles invented games to entertain his other nine siblings as well as his parents
Charles Dodgson and Francis Lutwidge Dodgson. Reverend Dodgson, Charles father who had studied
mathematics and classics at Oxford University, began Charles ... Show more content on

During this time, Carroll occupied himself by tutoring private pupils and spent almost four hours per
day lecturing his classes. He also begin his contributions to The Comic Times, later called The Train,
which displayed several of his poems. It was during this contribution that he felt the need to create a
nom de plum, which became the widely known name of Lewis Carroll. At the same time, Carroll
began his relationship with the Liddell girls, one of them by the name Alice who would become the
basis for the renowned main character of the Alice in Wonderland stories. It was Carroll s particular
fondness with young girls that created much controversy even while he lived. In 1856, after Alice
Liddell begged Carroll to write the Alice stories down, Carroll decided to take the story to the
publisher Macmillan who immediately enjoyed the story and published it. In the same year, Carroll
also took up the art of photography, many of his subjects being young girls in which he expressed a
beauty, a state of physical perfection found in the human form as it existed. This new hobby, along
with his passion for theatre and the rebelliousness his works contained against the strict Victorian era,
played a part in the confrontation and questioning of morality to the author. Lewis, not fond of
publicity, avoided the public and the questions that came at him. Likewise, As Carroll s fame grew,
juxtapose to it was a growing mythology about the author which soon became a false reality rather
than myth. During December of 1897, Lewis Carroll, as he usually would do, took a trip down to
Guildford to spend Christmas with his sisters. However, a sudden attack of influenze prevented his
travels back to the north. A slight horseness turned into the next morning a serious case of illness, and

A Practical Apocalypse
The purpose of this essay is to exegetically examine 1st Thessalonians 5:1 11. In this exercise I will
seek to elucidate the intention of the author in writing as he has and to show how the specific subject
matter of these verses interrelates with the major themes of the Epistle. That Paul is the author of 1st
Thessalonians is almost undisputed. Green is in agreement with Wanamaker who comments, No
contemporary scholars of repute seem to doubt the Pauline character of the letter. The position taken
in this paper, consistent with the majority of scholarly opinion, is that the letter was written around AD
50 51 from Corinth on the occasion of Paul hearing Timothy s report on the Thessalonian Church.
Although Donfried comments that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian faith produces hope where otherwise there would be none (cf 5:8) and faith in Christ
changes the nature of grief itself. It is the presence of such faith and hope that distinguishes the
believers from the nonbelievers who have no hope. Christian will grieve as they suffer loss but they
should not be overcome by it. (4:14) as we will see this distinction between believers and unbelievers
will be developed by Paul in chapter 5:4 6 At chapter 5:1 Marshall detects the introduction of a new
subject and an answer to a further question the Thessalonians have asked. Green, surprisingly,
reconstructs that question as when would the day of the Lord come? However there is no need to
anticipate or reconstruct such a question. By using the phrase `you have no need for anything to be
written to you Paul is taking the opportunity to further commend the believers, as he had already done
when he used the same phrase at 4:9. The Thessalonians had learned well Paul s eschatology and were
not asking him about `times and dates. Indeed their attention was very much focussed on more
practical issues. If this was not the case then this response would be obtuse, as Wanamaker notes, Paul
does not give an answer to the question of when. Verses 2 3 draw

Arthur Miller and His Theater of Mirrors. Reflections on...
Throughout his career as playwright, Arthur Miller portrayed critically some of the so called ideals of
the American society. Within his numerous plays and short stories, his characters reflect over and over
the multilayered American dream, its implications and consequences; the author unveils the ignored
ties human beings have with their pasts, demonstrating with his characters that we cannot escape from
it but learn from our failures and triumphs. And this is one is one of the major points in Miller s work,
as he represents the non learning of American society in every single of his plays. It seems that Miller
sacrifices his characters to build a metaphor of how American men and women keep on chasing one of
the biggest illusions a society did and still does pursue. Some of them got the belief stuck in their
souls and minds so they do not chase it anymore but are trapped on it. Some others are struggling to
make sense of their world while being bombarded by their own families with the confusing truth that
they are a failure for pursuing individual freedom instead of being part of the big machine s
mechanism. In this essay, I comment and analyze in a brief manner the plays and short stories read
and discussed in the American Society Through Drama/Literature course identifying some of the key
elements that Miller criticized with his work in order to conclude at what extent the mirror creations of
Miller are persuasive in his attempt to picture and scrutinize the American

The Controversial Debate Of Human Cloning
Human cloning has been a very controversial topic for many years now. The term human cloning
includes numerous methods that are used to produce genetically identical copies of humans. The
copied material, which has the same genetic makeup as the original, is referred to as a human clone
(National Human Genome Research Institute). Lost in the midst of all the fuss about cloning is the
fact that cloning is nothing new: it s rich scientific history spans more than 100 years (Genetic Science
Learning Centre). The first experiments in cloning date back to 1885, when German biologist Hans
Driesch split two cell sea urchin embryos. Once separated, each cell grew into two individual sea
urchins. This demonstrated that each cell in the early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spemann then loosened the hair on one of the sixteen nuclei, allowing it to slip into the separated
cytoplasm (Wilmut Highfield 66). As cell division took its course, Spemann tightened the hair loop
again and broke the embryos apart. This resulted in twin salamanders. Spemann created the first in
vitro animal clone produced by nuclear manipulation (Genetic Science Learning Centre). During that
time period, it was surprise that any of the previous experiments gave positive results. Despite their
low success rates, the experiments however did demonstrate that the nucleus retained to its full
complement of genetic information (Wilmut Highfield 68) which inspired later scientists to explore
mammalian cloning. In 1967, Derek Bromhall decided to tackle the untouched region of mammalian
cloning. In order to attempt nuclear transfer for mammalian embryos, Bromhall developed the
microsurgical equipment and techniques that were required. By using a glass pipette, Bromhall
transferred the nucleus from a rabbit embryo cell into a rabbit egg without a nucleus. He concluded his
experiment as a success when an advanced embryo was produced. Although, cloning had led to
marvelous discoveries through various experiments, it was not until 1996, when the first mammal was
created through somatic cell nuclear transfer. In this astonishing experiment, Ian Wilmut and Keith
Campbell created a lamb by transferring the nucleus from a lamb sheep udder cell into an enucleated
egg. Since

Animal House Essay
The comedy genre is designed to give us humor and provide us with laughs. This can be done in an
often extremely exaggerated manner. Some jokes may even stick with us for a lifetime after we ve
watch the movie. The films that I chose to watch for the comedy genre were Animal House (1978) and
The Newsroom (1987).Animal House (1978) is a comedy film directed by John Land is. Even though
it was Shot in 1978 this movie takes place during 1962.This film follows a quest plot of college frat
students(The Delta Tau Chi)trying to make their way through school, while opposing a rival frat
(Omega Theta Pi) house and an ill tempered dean who has it out to get them. The conflict of this
movie is man vs. man or in this specific case man vs. dean. The film starts with Larry Kroeger and
Kent Dorfman checking out frat houses to join. Larry is an average handsome guy and Dorfman is his
goofy and chubby companion. They start at the Omega Theta Pi house and soon feel out of place by
their aesthetic, so they visit Delta Tau Chi and fall in love with the idea of joining this frat house.
Other members of the house include Bluto (John), Otter (Eric), Boon (Donald), D Day (Daniel),
Hoover, and Stork. Shortly after pledging and gaining admittance to the frat the group is challenged by
the Dean because of their violated probations and places them on Secret Double probation. The Dean
hates the Deltas and is ambitious about getting their frat removed from Faber College. The Deltas

Melting Points Lab Report Essay
Melting Points
Elizabeth McGrail
Organic Chemistry I
25 January 2013
ABSTRACT
The objectives of this lab are, as follows; to understand what occurs at the molecular level when a
substance melts; to understand the primary purpose of melting point data; to demonstrate the
technique for obtaining the melting point of an organic substance; and to explain the effect of
impurities on the melting point of a substance. Through the experimentation of three substances,
tetracosane, 1 tetradecanol and a mixture of the two, observations can be made in reference to melting
point concerning polarity, molecular weight and purity of the substance. When comparing the two
substances, it is evident that heavy molecule weight of tetracosane allowed ... Show more content on

Once the range is obtained, remove the thermometer and beaker. Pour out the hot water and allow both
the thermometer and the beaker to cool. Once cool, repeat the previous steps with the second
compound, tetradecanol. At the conclusion of the second experiment, repeat the steps for a third and
final time using an equal mixture of both compounds. Be sure to record the melting point range for all
three experiments. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Melting point range for tetracosane: 49 51 degrees Celsius
Melting point range for 1 tetradecanol: 37 40 degrees Celsius
Melting point range for mixture: 34 37 degrees Celsius
I was instructed to record a melting point range for each compound, rather than a single temperature
melting point. The reason for this instruction is that polymers and unpure substance melt over a range
of several degrees. Based on the melting point ranges for both substances, it is difficult to differentiate
the two based on its melting point data alone. The ranges of the substances are close enough to one
another that one could argue for experimental error when presenting the data as a solo identifying
property.
Based on these conclusions, I do not believe the tetracosane is a pure substance because I observed the
compound melt over a range of degrees Celsius. If both compounds in the mixture were composed of
tetracosane, its melting point would be theoretically, identical to the melting

Red Dog Analysis
In the Red Dog and The Turning, the theme of loss is an issue used to shape meaning on the idea of
change using specific language choices; the way in which the two themes are seen by the audience to
convey the meaning of change. The two texts use the theme of loss to shape meaning of change. In red
dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people around him, strengthening the theme
of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog (2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously
affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s
life, and the people around him, especially Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too.
The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm
with her family. The audience sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and
impacts the rest of the story. The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the
theme of loss. Not only in dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The
audience sees the effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re
home now boy Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s
voice, a specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to
the audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the
use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will cause a
huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning and Red Dog,
the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to create meaning
and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these themes and ideas can be
better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme of loyalty quite
extensively in the first story. Biggie and Billy share quite a connection, For a while my mother thought
Biggie and me were gay The Turning (2004), the two went through high school together, Billy pretty

The Money Time Value Theory In Personal Finance
2.2.2 Money Time Value Theory Money time value theory is the basic and the most important
principle in personal finance. The time value of money means a certain amount of money will earn
more value in the future. In other words, if you decide not to use one dollar now and want to use the
money one day in the future, you have more than one dollar to use at that time. There are three reasons
why money has time value. The first reason is that money can be used to invest and interest will be
earned. People can have more money one day. Another reason is that the purchase power of money
will be reduced because of inflation. The third reason is that the expected income in the future is
uncertain. The value of money at different moment is different. So when comparing the value of
money, we need to converse the money to the same time. Here is the equations to realize that. FV =
PV * (1 + k) t; PV = FV / (1 + k) t PV = present value FV = future value K = ... Show more content on

Jane Eyre And Remains Of The Day By Kazuo Ishiguro
Writers present issues of self awareness through common craft such as Narrative technique, Point of
view, Setting description and dialogue. Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre and Remains of the Day by
Kazuo Ishiguro both are told from the main protagonists point of view, and brings out their growing
self awareness in themselves. The former is able to grow from this experience while the latter is
unable to adapt and is therefore his growth is stunted. Jane Eyre , the main character of Jane Eyre is
narrating her life from her infancy to her present married life. Her book began with her as a penniless
orphan and as she is not directly related to the current head she does not have a position and is not
seen as important. as the book progresses the reader is able to in a sense grow up with the child and
learn her oddities and her righteousness with morals. One also becomes aware of her grown
perception of self. Although she did begin as a strong willed person, her status did not allow her to be
conscious of her self first. The main protagonist of Remains of the Day is a butler who begins his
story to go visit an old acquaintance that worked with him 20 years ago. Stevens s position as butler,
and consequently as servant, has gradually made it impossible for him to show any emotion. One of
the memories that are brought up to the reader is of when his father dies, Stevens is too occupied with
worrying about being a proper butler to mourn . This is something

Qrt Floods Essay
The weather of the months leading up to the South East Queensland floods not only gives an
indication of the weather patterns before the flood, but shows the continuity and change in the
weather, which ended up causing this catastrophic natural disaster. The SE QLD floods was the result
of a continuum of a build up of conditions, which can be seen in the synoptic charts.
As seen in the Mid September month, there were many high pressure systems of 1025+ hectopascals
affecting australia, in particular the south west areas of the country. The ridges of the high pressure
systems impacted the North east parts of Australia as well, including most of QLD. This caused clear

With the dominant cold front impacting the south and south east area of the state, more prominent
rainfall was found, in which QLD experienced wet and generally warm days in the north, and wet and
cool days in the south east. On the 25th of the month, North Queensland was impacted from the low
pressure system condition, bringing heavy rain, for example most of the Cairns region recorded more
than 200mm during the week. With a trough extending from Northern Territory to QLD also brought
strengthened conditions to this area of the country. This trough is the beginning of an easterly dip,
which are good sources of flood conditions. This weather in November impacted this area of QLD
greatly, meaning as the disaster unfolded, the conditions of SE QLD aided the disaster to have an even
greater impact.

Alice In Wonderland Banned
Imagine walking around following this rabbit and there is a rabbit hole. There is a door in the hole
which leads to this fantasy world no one has ever seen before called Wonderland. Wonderland is this
magical and amazing realm out of this world. In Wonderland animals can talk, disappear, and do so
many other things. Mushrooms there can make things grow and potions can make things shrink. Well,
that s what Lewis Carroll wrote about in two his books. After taking up writing as a hobby to entertain

In the article, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland it says, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is
considered banned because some people thought it was a commentary on drug culture. People thought
this because of the caterpillar in the begging of the book is smoking a hookah while talking to Alice.
People also thought it was associated with drug culture because they thought it was associated with
LSD trips. Another reason why people considered it banned was due to religion. Some religions
believe that animals should not be put on the same level as humans and animals should not use human
language. These things are deemed an abomination in the sight of God in many religions. A third
reason why it was thought banned is because people thought it was too strange and full of nonsense.
That is why some librarians wouldn t put it on their shelves. One last reason why it was considered
banned is because some people thought Lewis Carroll was a pedophile. They thought this because
Carroll had an interest in little girls and would take pictures of them for his hobby for photography.
Carroll liked little girls but not in that way. When he was in school as a young boy he got bullied a lot
by other boys which made him not favor little boys growing up and favor little girls (32 39). Even
though there was a lot of controversy there was a lot of praise too. In the article, Alice s Adventures in

Put simply, ABA tells the stomata to close when there isn t enough soil water for transpiration to
occur. When ninety percent of the plant s water is lost through the stomata, the turgid guard cells
become flaccid, causing the stomata to close. The process behind this is ABA binds to receptors on the
surface of the plasma membrane of guard cells. The receptors are then activated, resulting in various
pathways connecting to create a couple of occurrences: a rise in Ph in the cytosol and the transfer of
calcium ions from the vacuole to the cytosol. What these changes effect is the loss of negatively
charged ions, particularly nitrate and the chloride ion from the cell, as well as the positively charged
potassium ion. After losing the solutes, cytosol lessens the osmotic pressure and result in the loss of
turgidity. The second function mentioned is ABA s ability to improve the plant s potential for soaking
up water from the soil. The third is ABA s importance in protecting the cells from dehydrating, by
activating the proteins that encode genes, to aid the cells against dehydration damage. Whereas, in bud
dormancy (the fourth function mentioned), ABA helps to protect the apical meristem from drying out
during winter by making it dormant. The fifth function, a little different than bud dormancy, looks at
how ABA affects the process of seed dormancy and maturation, by keeping the seed to dormant until
favorable conditions occur

Robert Scholes on Video Texts
According to Robert Scholes, author of On Reading a Video Text, commercials aired on television
hold a dynamic power over human beings on a subconscious level. He believes that through the use of
specific tools, commercials can hold the minds of an audience captive, and can control their abilities
to think rationally. Visual fascination, one of the tools Scholes believes captures the minds of viewers,
can take a simple video, and through the use of editing and special effects, turn it into a powerful
scene which one simply cannot take his or her eyes from. Narrativity is yet another way Scholes feels
commercials can take control of the thoughts of a person sitting in front of the television. Through the

We are simply awestruck by seeing something we cannot on our own.
The Budweiser commercial in question uses narrativity throughout itself to not only tell the story of
the umpire, but to tell the story of America, to tell the story of our national pastime, to tell the story of
the young black man who has worked ever so hard to make it, when he finally does. While watching
the young umpire working a game, we hear the narrator s voice, In the minors you got to make all the
calls, and then one day you get the call (Scholes, p. 620), Budweiser uses this catchy phrase in order to
grab our attention, to focus us on the commercial in order to look for the blossoming story. This slight
play on words has a great effect on a viewer due to the fact that our minds think about the statement,
and by the time we realize what is actually happening, the commercial has shown us that the black
umpire has just gotten his call. Later in the commercial, after the game has obviously ended, we see
the umpire sitting in the same bar as the manager who confronted him about his bad call during the
game. The old white manager with the history of [baseball] written on [his face] (Scholes, p. 621)

Blood Glucose Absorbance Levels of Non Diabetics and Diabetics Over 120 Minutes After Food

Dr. Welch
Abstract Individuals with diabetes are affected by elevated blood glucose levels in the bloodstream
due to inefficient glucose uptake by cells. Blood glucose levels are influenced by many things,
especially meals and their glucose content. Therefore, if diabetics cannot correctly regulate their blood
glucose levels, particularly after meals, then their readings will be higher than non diabetic levels. In
the experiment, the absorbance of simulated blood glucose levels of both diabetic and non diabetic
people in 120 minutes following a meal was measured using a spectrophotometer. The blood glucose
levels of diabetics were higher than that of non diabetics throughout the entire course of 120 minutes,
including at peak levels occurring at 60 minutes. The cause of this was a greater abundance of
molecules in the highly concentrated diabetic solutions, which were ready to absorb more light. This
demonstrates the ineffectiveness of diabetic metabolic pathways for utilizing glucose compared to that
of non diabetics. This research can be taken further to analyze how different types of food influence
blood glucose levels.

Sam, the tattoo artist, in Transitional Object is extremely important for both the development of the
body image theme and motherhood/womanhood because helps to give Mia confidence through her
tattoo and serves as a mother figure to her. To begin, Sam is very important for the developing body
image theme because despite losing her job, gaining a great amount of weight, losing her husband, and
making many sacrifices for her kids, she moved past all of those challenges, took online tattoo classes,
and made a new life for herself. She is also important to this theme because she gave Mia confidence
in herself through her tattoo, as she points out when she says, That scar was too standard. Sam has
embellished it. Now I have one breast and one Dignity.

The Between Female And Female Roles
Psychologically defined, the term androgyny is used to describe and individual that presents both male
and female traits equally and simultaneously. Whilst this individual is assigned one biological gender
at birth, their own personal gender identity does not fit neatly into either the male or the female gender
role of their society.
In many mainstream religions, God s and Goddesses, posses one gender and a male and female
distinct and separate beings, yet there is a long standing history of androgyny in mystical writings; that
is to say the assertion that male and female qualities were originally contained within one body. The
term androgyny is given its roots within Greek mythology. The major underlying assumption of both
male and female sex roles is that an individual may act in either traditionally male or female roles,
depending solely on the situation and needs of that given situation. According to Swain, D. In
patriarchal societies men and masculinity have always been held in higher esteem to women and
femininity. Men have always held a superior status and position in these societies. This can arguable
be traced back to Aristotle who concluded that due to a males genitals being on the outside of the
body, this made him hot and dry and to be hot and dry was to be superior. Women within these
societies are often seen as lowers and not considered worthy or higher status jobs considered weak and
lowered to childcare and domestic services.

Scientific Management Frederick Taylor Essay
Scientific management is defined by (Robbins et al., 2012) as an approach that involves using
scientific methods to define the one best way for a job to be done . Frederick W. Taylor is said to be
the forefather of scientific management, during his time many people criticised Taylor and his work,
however it is easy to see that many of his approaches are used in contemporary management systems.
This essay will provide a review of the article The Ideas of Frederick W. Taylor , Academy of
Management Review (Locke, E., 1982) which discusses the positives and negatives of Taylor s theory.
A further 3 articles will be analysed on the critiquing or support of scientific management and Taylor.

Locke (1982) also articulates Taylor s major criticisms in his journal article; degradation of the
worker, loss of complete skills, authoritarianism or dictatorship power given to management,
exploitation of workers and dishonesty. Locke concludes his article stating that even though it has
been 65 years since Taylor s death and many more theorists of business management have risen and
fallen, Frederick W. Taylor s research and findings are still used in today s business systems (1982,
p.22).
Over the years many articles have been written regarding scientific management and Frederick w.
Taylor, 3 examples of these articles will be analysed and discussed in the further paragraphs of this
essay. Wrege, C. D. and Stotka, A. M. wrote an article concerning the relationship between Taylor and
his assistant Morris L. Cooke and the evidence that shows Taylor used much of Cooke s own research
and study for his publication of Principles of Scientific Management . Blake A. M. and Moseley J. L.
undertook research which discovered that Taylor s principles are still being used in business systems
one hundred years after Taylor s death. Darmody, Peter B. wrote his article regarding Henry L. Gantt
and Frederick Taylor as the pioneers of scientific management, Darmody speaks highly of Taylor and
Gantt, and agrees with many of their opinions.

Pros And Cons Of Creating The Budget
I was assigned to cut the budget for year 1 and year 2 by $750,000 (total of $1.5 million over 2 years)
by the CEO. I took a comprehensive look at the budget and my recommendations are that we should
cut the number of participants from 1000 to 910 and let go of 3 staff members. These reductions
would have a cascading effect and help us to cut the budgets of both years by 750,000 dollars.
I believe that the quality of our program is more important than the number of participants we serve.
Consequently, I propose to
decrease the number of participants by 9% (90 participants) for year 1 and year 2. This cut would
cause minimum harm to the program because we would be able to serve the other 910 participants
without decreasing services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequently, helping us reach our desired program outcomes. The average cost of a certification is
$75 and for our initial budget, we assumed that half of the participants would get these certifications.
In our new budget, this ratio would be maintained, however as we have fewer participants, we would
only need to budget for 455 certifications decreasing our budget by $3,375 for year 1 and year 2.
Another important service that our program offers is background checks. These checks help increase
the number of placements and retentions. Our initial budget reflected that each background check
costs $50 and approximately half of the participants would require a background check. The new
budget for year 1 and year 2 would still maintain the same ratio but due to a decrease in participants,
we would only need to budget for 455 participants. This would help us cut the budget by $2,250 for
year 1 and year 2 without harming the program.
Career advisors are an essential part of our program. Career advisors transitional help participants
during their transitional employment, which is usually for the first 4 6 months of the program. My
recommendation would be to fire 2 of these advisors as this would allow us to decrease our budget by
$80,000 for year 1 and 2. Currently, these advisors serve 500 participants and their maximum
participants to staff ratio is 35:1. Our initial budget

When people who suffer from omniomania begin to feel anxious, nervous or depressed the go
shopping to make themselves feel better, they get a high from shopping, a high similar to that of drug
addicts. It is believed that shopping provides a stimulant of beta endorphines in the brain, which give
the person the high feeling. People continue to shop to gain the euphoric feeling and then can become
addicted to shopping. (Intili, 2004)
It is believed that about 6% of Americans have a shopping addiction; of the 6% 90% are women. To a
shopping addict trips to the mall become the main way to cope with stress, even when it is having a
negative impact on the rest of their life. The addiction will affect their relationships and finances.
(Omniomania: Shopping Addiction, 2010) It is a never ending merry go round; the stress from
relationships and finances just reinforces the urge to shop more in order to feel better.
Treatment for this addiction usually starts with financial counseling. The shopper is usually in denial
as to the amount of debt and or effect they shopping has had on their life and they need see it in paper

Gambling addiction also know as compulsive gambling is a type of impulse control disorder.

Anti-Drinking Law Research Paper
On July 9, 1869, a typical summer day in New Hampshire, Governor Stearns was presented with a
hand written piece of legislation that would eventually lead to the formation of the New Hampshire
State Police. The legislation, entitled An Act to Create a State Police in Certain Cases, outlined just
what would constitute the proposed State Police. During this historical period, the various local law
enforcement authorities chose not to promote compliance with the liquor laws. Therefore, one of the
primary functions of the proposed legislation was the enforcement of these anti drinking laws by the
State Police. The proposed legislation failed to achieve the needed backing of two thirds of the male
voters in New Hampshire. Fortunately, this setback did not diminish the interest and support of a large
portion of the population of New Hampshire to have a State Police. The interest in such an

The rich history of American Deaf culture in conjunction withlanguage displays the determination
along with the brilliance of these people. Though the hearing world had called them sin, denounced

Buprenorphine and methadone, both being opioids, activate the opioid (mu) receptors on nerve cells.
And both drugs have long half life s, meaning that they re long acting medications (Reuter, Nicholas,
and Reckitt Benckiser). The chief difference between the two detoxifiers is the idea of a partial agonist
versus a full agonist; methadone and heroin are full agonist where as buprenorphine is only a partial
agonist (Reuter, Nicholas, and Reckitt Benckiser). Methadone, as a full mu opioid agonist, continues
to produce effects on the receptors until either all receptors are fully activated, or the maximum effect
is reached (Reuter, Nicholas, and Reckitt Benckiser). Whereas buprenorphine is a derivative of
thebaine, an extract of opium. The drug is an opioid partial agonist and thus can produce euphoria,
analgesia, and sedation associated with opiates (US Department of Justice). Essentially methadone has
been proven to be more dangerous and addictive than buprenorphine, but buprenorphine has also been
proven to create dependency and death. It is by their actions on opioid receptors that opioids achieve
their analgesic (pain killing) as well as their addictive effects (Reuter, Nicholas, and Reckitt

Identity In Courtroom
Much research has investigated the role of gender (Ehrlich 2006, Feinstein 2001, Montague 2013,
Walters 1994) and gendered language (Chapman 1993, Hublar 2015) in courtrooms, focusing
particularly on witnesses and jurors or written law. Attention has also been paid to the language of
women lawyers and the gendered constructions of their professional identities (Bahm 1993, Bogoch
1999, Cech 2015), especially since the number of women in this profession has increased considerably
in recent times. The assumption in these studies, as is in the present, is that social identity is not fixed
but rather created and constructed, or performed as Butler and others would say, in the process of
communication.
The courtroom, in fact, has been identified as an important place in which power relations and social
identity are constructed, realized and negotiated (Bahm, 1993, Ehrlich 2006, Maley 1994) and where
suspicions and findings of gender inequalities have surfaced repeatedly (Mey, 1985). Even in the
highly regulated form of the courtroom discourse, the shaping of social identity is often realized
through language. Since specific institutional contexts of the discourse tend to legitimate and prefer

Summary Of How Immigrants Changed America
America is filled with diverse people, citizens and immigrants. It s a country that has welcomed many
cultures, languages, and people from different parts of the world. Immigrants are the reasons why
America is changing into a colorful country and it wouldn t be known for it s importance known
today. Significant changes that occur when immigrants come to America are new cultures, changes in

Immigrants changed America by bringing in new cultures. In Vincent J. Cannato s article, How

as food, music, and films. Vincent J. Cannato states, The Italian American experience reminds us that
immigration is a process of transformation for the individuals and for American society. That bilateral

countries are shaping America with all the different cultures. Today, Americans combine varying

How To Be Happy Essay
Strive to be happy . What does this mean? What does it mean to be happy? What does happiness truly
entail?
Being happy is a goal which many people endeavour to achieve throughout their lives. However,
many people never seem to reach their goal, as happiness is something one cannot stumble upon. It is
something we have to be. We cannot wait our whole lives hoping that one day we will magically
become happy . As Aristotle correctly said, Happiness depends upon ourselves . We have to find our
own happiness in everyday lives. We have to create our own happiness. We have to strive for our own
happiness.
Before we venture out on our road to happiness, we have to truly understand what it means to be
happy and how we each find our own happiness. As we are all individuals with our own specific
characteristics and defining traits, each of us has to find our own way to becoming happy. There are
many ways to do this but, in my opinion, being happy derives from having a purpose.
Having a purpose and a responsibility in life enables one to live a meaningful life, contributing in our
own way to whatever cause we may choose and thus bringing ourselves happiness. I recently learned

Criminal Law In Canada
The Canadian criminal law involves the prosecution by the government of a person for an act that has
been categorized as a crime. In order to convict, an individual or party they must have demonstrated or
committed a guilty act, whilst having a guilty state of mind or intentions. In other words, the
individual must represent actus reus, an evil act, and must simultaneously possess mens rea, an evil
mind. It is essential that the prosecution prove both of these elements of the offence to the satisfaction
of the judge beyond reasonable doubt, if there is a lack of one of these elements the defendant will be

Some individuals are obliged by the law to take action stop the crime from happening. One of the
exceptions is when the defendant or the individual himself caused or created the peril. In other words,
an individual must stop a crime, which was committed by his negligence. For example, the defendant
threw a cigar butt, who caused a fire, in this case the defendant s negligence caused a peril, if a person
were to die because of the fire he would be criminally responsible. Another exception is when the
defendant has a special relationship with the victim or contractual duties. The bond between the
defendant and the victim can be of many sorts like family, patient and doctor, or company and
employee. In each relationship, individuals have duties towards each other and if they do not fulfill the

Some of the most commonly abused substances, that can cause serious psychological and physical
side effects are stimulants. Substance abuse has been a problem in the United States and many other

One specific drug that is abused is crack and crack cocaine. By examining the history of stimulants
such as crack and crack cocaine, it s connection to crime and violence will be revealed. Psychoactive
drugs, such as stimulants have a lot to do with the alteration or manipulation of brain activity (Cherry,

Theories of Management
Theories gave organizations a framework for knowledge and a guide to achieving their goals. The
Industrial Revolution prompted the need for better supervision of workers to boost productivity within

Industrial Revolution, focused on the single best way to perform and manage tasks. This enabled
factories to operate year round and mass production of goods. But as the revolution went on, the

that allow the agency to function. These subsystems, such as the Detective Bureau, Administrative
Bureau, Service Bureau, and Uniform Patrol Bureau all operate together as a whole which is what the
systems school approach to management is based on. The managers of each of the bureaus are aware

managers to keep employees focused on the objective so that overall goals can be met. The

Law enforcement utilizes this approach on a daily basis. Officers respond to calls for service in which
they are expected to rectify. They use their years of experience and training along with past incidents

The Social Center For Lgbt Youth
The research question that facilitated our asset map was simply What social outlets are available for
LGBT youth in the greater Los Angeles area? . We chose this question because the majority of the
young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness is a
condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT themed social
gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths towards
systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable.
Also, it was vital for us to focus only on social outlets that were LGBT centric for these young people,
being marginalized members of an already marginalized community, the homeless have distinct needs
that other individuals don t. And when these needs aren t met, the consequences can be tragic.
Research shows that approximately 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth attempt suicide (Center for
American Progress, 2010). Before we began our work, officials at our site informed us that they did
not have a list of social outlets for the clients, which made our asset map that much more important.
We drew the boundaries of the map around the greater Los Angeles area. This decision was made
because many of the clients, being homeless, do not have the means to go far distances. It would have
been useless to include social outlets in San Diego, for instance. As far as our criteria for choosing

Adolescent minds have always been the key to the world s future. Children are put in school from a
young age and taught a curriculum that can be challenge [challenging?], yet the results are rewarding.
Without education, there would be known literacy. No doctors, engineers, or even teachers. With each
generation that is brought up, there are new concepts and skills taught. What you to be just reading,
writing, and arithmetic, now has expanded into classes such as horticulture. With more skills being
taught now at younger ages, many wonder just how exactly these children retain this knowledge into
adulthood. Children have often been referred to as sponges; soaking up every image, word, and idea
that is ran by them in everyday life. As I began to prepare for this assignment, I was struck with many
question pertaining to the retention of knowledge, but specifically the use of repetition to aid retention.
I first began this assignment once reviewing my literacy narrative once more for inspiration. I began
by asking simple questions that later stemmed into more involved inquires. The first being, why did
Bill Martin Jr. choose to compose Brown Bear Brown Bear the way he did? The question led me to
think deeper and I ask myself, Was Bill Martin Jr. intentionally using repetition in his book, or was it a
happy accident? This led me to question his writing style and illustration choice. I could not contain
the questions my mind was throwing at me. There were then more inquiries to

Hollywood Walk Of Fame Research Paper
The Hollywood Walk of Fame honored another famous celebrity this week and the fans were out in
multitude to celebrate. Kevin Hart received a big welcome on Hollywood Boulevard as his star was
revealed to the world. The opportunity to share his talents on screen and in comedy has the fans in
stitches. Loving what he does, he gives fans a big laugh and a moment away from their everyday lives
as he entertains.
The big celebration had me wondering about the future of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As many
people know, the elaborate process to be picked and awarded a start takes time and money. Not
everyone will get a star. Of course, not everyone wants a star either. Yet, there are many celebrities
that do. And for all the people who could be chosen

Comparing On Keeping A Notebook By Joan Didion And Tim O ...
Joan Didion and Tim O Brien have many differences and similarities in their writing. In On Keeping a
Notebook, Didion emphasizes how she keeps a notebook, not a diary, and the differences between a
notebook and a diary. She makes numerous other points along the way throughout the writing. O
Brien writes about the Vietnam War and emphasizes items that the men carry, switching from point of
views sporadically. Both authors write with a reminiscent tone, as if they are looking back on old
memories and jotting them down in a notebook. Even though Didion stays in one point of view
throughout the whole piece, and O Brien switches between characters and points of view rather often,
one can still see the similarities in the way they write. Didion cannot remember exactly what might

Who started it, and when, and why? (O Brien 38). Neither is fully positive in the way they write. A
point made in both pieces has to do with stretching the truth somewhat to make for a better story.
Didion mentions how with a diary, one would have to write exactly what happened, whereas with a
notebook, she feels she only has to jot down some things. Like she would be able to expand on what
happened later, make it up as she goes along. And yet it is precisely that fictitious crab that makes me
see the afternoon all over again, a home movie run all too often, the father bearing gifts, the child
weeping, an exercise in family love and guilt (Didion 83). She says how part of her story about the
cracked crab was untrue, and exaggerated, however it is that part that makes her remember and
believe it all the more. O Brien plays with similar ideas about truth, elaborating on it in the chapter
How to Tell a True War Story. The story Sanders tells about the men and the mountain, speaks of
strange sounds, almost sounds like it s a story about ghosts, and he mentions how he doesn t really
remember all of the details, so some of it may be exaggerated.

Analysis Of The Movie The Woman Of Black
On the 31st of March we watched the Woman in Black at the Fortune theatre in London, as part of our
unit two assessment. The play is about Arthur Kipps who tells the gripping story of the terrible events
he survived when he encountered the woman in black. He learns about the death of Mrs Drablow and
travels to the town of Crythin Gifford. Here he meets many petrified faces, too scared to about the
woman in black. Through the story of Mr Kipps we learn that a woman named Jennet Humfrye had a
child unmarried and was forced to leave her child with her sister Mrs Drablow, years later Jennet plans
to run away with her son but before she able to, the tragic event of his death occurs. Due to the
unbearable grief Jennet suffers from a terrible wasting disease leading to her death. Instantly after her
death she returns as the Woman in Black and haunts the people of the town who are too afraid to speak
of her name. After hearing this story he leaves the town, many years later after getting married and
having a child he thinks he sees the woman in black again and on that day Mr Kipps wife Stella and
child die.
Setting
The performance began with the props of a stool, chair, basket and a coat rack. The use of the minimal
set allowed the audience to focus on the action taking place on stage and storyline, rather than the
distractions of the set. Instead of using different scenery, a gauze was used. This was effective as it
meant that the scenery would not keep moving, therefore the

King Lear Vs Oedipus
A man cannot become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall. Aristotle. In Greek culture,
a tragic hero is defined as a person of high social rank, who has a tragic flaw or flaws that lead to their
downfall. William Shakespeare s King Lear and Sophocles Oedipus Rex are two classic pieces of
literature in which involves a tragic ending for both protagonists lear and Oedipus. The naive nature of
King Lear and the arrogance pride of Oedipus lead them to a blindness which is both physical and
metaphorical. both King Lear and Oedipus displays comparative characteristics such as role of fate
and free will, role of destiny and the ignorance which makes them being regarded as tragic heroes.
Role of fate and free will can be seen

The Influence Of Tintern Abbey And Keats Ode To A Nightingale
Wordsworth was undoubtedly the contemporary poet who exerted the most influence on Keats. A
number of specialized studies, as well as scores of notes in annotated editions and passages in critical
and biographical works, have sought to document the ways in which the elder affected the younger
poet s writing and thinking (Lau). John Keats was considered one of the central figures in the second
generation of the Romantics. The following paper will discuss the influence of William Wordsworth,
who together with Samuel Taylor Coleridge helped launch the Romantic era in English literature
(Wikipedia), on John Keats. I will demonstrate this influence by comparing Wordsworth s Tintern
Abbey and Keats Ode to a Nightingale while focusing on two central ... Show more content on

Here in Tintern Abbey, eight years before the completion of the Great Ode, Wordsworth anticipates the
totality of its myth. As he listens to the sad music he hears evidence not only of man s mortality but of
man s inseparable bond with nature (Abrams.) The emphasis in Tintern Abbey is on things seen and
things remembered, on the light of sense, not on the invisible world. The presence of outer nature
disturbs the mind, sets it into motion until it realizes that nature and itself are not utterly distinct, that
they are mixed together, interfused. The central story of the poem is about aesthetic contemplation and
its personal myth of memory as salvation. The misgivings and the ultimate fear of mortality are part of
the poem because of Wordsworth s insistence upon autobiographical honesty (Abrams.) The mind,
knowing only itself and nature, but remembering a time when nature gave it direct joy, and having
remoter memories of an earlier time when it knew itself only in union with nature, is able to turn back
through memory for a faith that at last gives courage and a love for others. Blake did not believe in the
goodness of the natural heart, and Coleridge could neither believe in nor deny it, but Wordsworth
brings its possibility as truth alive into our hearts, as he did into the heart of Keats

Should Books Be Banned From Libraries Essay
How would you like it if you needed a book for research or if you really liked a certain type of books
and they were banned? Books like The Outsiders could be banned for censored information about
drugs and alcohol. Libraries have been debating this problem for a long time to get a rule on
censorship or no censorship. Censoring in libraries is a big problem. People don t know if certain
books should be banned from libraries, and libraries don t know what would be censored and what
wouldn t be censored. I don t think books should be banned from libraries because they can show you
what not to do and be used for research topics, how would libraries decide what is censored and what
isn t, or they could be something that some reader like that others don t like.
Censorship should not be put in place because some of the book that are censored my be historic and
help people see what not to repeat in life. Books like the one Hitler wrote should not be censored
because they show society how to not act and how we can not repeat history. Some old books can be
used for research purposes for students and teachers. They can show people helpful things that some
people don t understand. These are types of books that could be censored, used in other ways than just
for bad use. This Is why books should not be censored because many that would be, contain valuable
historic content. Books in libraries should not be censored because of the historic value of the books.
I think some drama and romance books that might be censored shouldn t be because some people like
that stuff. Romance books like Fifty Shades of Gray might be liked by some people and we shouldn t
take away types of books that some people enjoy. Books that tell about very gory and violent things
people still like so we shouldn t take away those books. If we took away some drama, romance, or
violent books, where would the line be to have them be acceptable? Just because they shouldn t be
read by young readers doesn t mean they should be taken away. Parents of the young readers can just
tell them not to read the book. They can tell their children not to go to that certain section. Just
because you don t like the book doesn t mean it should be taken away from someone

In The Cask Of Amontillado, The Raven, And Annabel Lee
The unity of effect is all the elements in a story that channels the effect the author wants the audience
to experience. Therefore, to achieve the unity of effect in the Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, and
Annabel Lee, Poe used the elements of setting, alliteration, and unreliable narrator to help elicit the
unsettling mood in the audience.
For the sake of the unity of effect , Poe uses setting for the purpose of conceiving a sinister mood. As
Montresor and Fortunato walked deeper into the catacombs in the Cask of Amontillado, Montresor
points out the trickling of the water on the bones. We are below the river s bed. The drops of moisture
trickle among the bones. (Cask)The setting is under the surface of the earth, so the audience associates
it with with Hell because of the bones that lie around. The bones also make the audience feel that the
setting is eery and dangerous because it reminds them of death. This only makes isolation and danger
prominent factors in the setting. The mood becomes unpredictable and treacherous, with a sense of
fear and dread knowing that something bad will happen to the characters who are away from safety.
Under those circumstances, Poe controlled the audience s fear and the diabolical mood using the dark
setting.
Once again Poe uses the unity of effect to elicit this tense mood and draw out terror in the audience. In
The Raven, Poe used alliteration with the intention to build a suspenseful mood and dread in the
audience. The narrator of

Portrayation Of Women In Nervous Conditions By Tsitsi...
During the 1960 s disproportionate gender roles characterized post colonial Rhodesia. The African
patriarchy described in Tsitsi Dangarembga s acclaimed novel, Nervous Conditions, promotes feminist
theory through the portrayal of marginalized women in Zimbabwe. Regardless of class or social
prowess, women were not permitted the same liberties and regarded with the same respect as their
male counterparts. Women found themselves relegated to the positions of household servants, and
excluded from the labor markets by the societies males. (Mbatha 23) Female characters of the novel
consistently struggle with nervous conditions around males, stemming from years of oppression under
the Shona power system. Throughout her novel, Nervous Conditions, Dangarembga exemplifies the
various forms of oppression faced by Shona women as well as methods they utilized to resist the
oppressive male patriarchy. Prior to her brother s death, Tambu s educational aspirations were
secondary to her role in the household. Nhamo s birthright as the family s first born male exemplifies
the injustice faced by Tambu from a young age. This disparity is further exemplified as Tambu states
the needs and sensibilities of the women in my family were not considered a priority or even
legitimate. (Dangaremba 12). Her aspirations to be properly educated are viewed as an unnecessary
expense in regard to women s roles in Shona culture. Jerimiah s ridicule of this proposition represents
the core ideals of

My Experience At The Art Department
Everyone has a passion in life mine is art. Not going to galleries and looking at paintings by artists
from the 1800s but using paint and pencils to show me and my life. The saying A picture shows a
thousand words which is very true but in my case a painting shows a thousand emotions.
I ve never hated school but I ve always loved being in the art department. All the different
possibilities, the different sizes of paper. It is somewhere that I feel as if I am me and nothing will ever
change that. Picking up a paintbrush and letting my imagination run wild has always been so much
easier than showing anyone my emotions. From red to blue, black to yellow, there is a colour to
represent how I am feeling. The colour wheel never lets me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It gives me a chance to make something which is mine, it may never become a colour used by millions
each day but it has a purpose to me and my work, it is something that I can add to my work that relates
to me and my emotions. In art there are seven visual elements texture, tone, line, shape, form, pattern
and colour and in second year when I was first introduced to these, they never really made sense. Now
it all makes complete sense, as when I m drawing I enter another world and I use these elements all
the time. The different patterns in a piece, the dark and light tones it just makes my work mine. I can
tell how I felt that day from how dark piece is, the simple dark shading can convey tonnes of different
emotions. Art is a part of my life that I use and think about everyday. It is something which I can just
escape into, leaving the world behind me.
Art is a way where I can be right no matter what anyone else thinks. Throughout school I have fell out
with my friends, argued, and had some difficult times. Rather than shouting and screaming about my
problematic life, I picked a paint brush up. Two years ago I fallen out with most of my friends I then
had became too scared to come to school and face people. I had transformed into a hedgehog in
hibernation. When I found the courage to come to school, it had turned into me hiding in the art
department every break and lunch. Hiding away from people with my

Why Do Monosaccharaides Contain Aldehyde
In the first test for monosaccharaides using Benedict s solution, glucose was the positive control and it
turned a brownish red color. Water was the negative control and it stayed blue which was the color of
the Benedict s reagent (Benedicts test image 1). This supports the hypothesis that monosaccharaides
contain aldehyde groups. Three disaccharides, maltose, sucrose and lactose were tested next for a free
aldehyde group, which would mean they were reducing sugars according to the hypothesis. Maltose
and lactose both turned brownish red which means they are reducing sugars and sucrose did not
change colors which means it tested negative and is a non reducing sugar (Benedicts test image 2).
This is shown in Benedict s test results for unknown substances table. ... Show more content on

Lugol s test was utilized to test for polysaccharides. Starch turned black and the negative control of
water stayed brown, the color of the iodine being used to test (Lugol s test image 1). Maltose, sucrose

a monosaccharide. The test was repeated and it was found that the test tube had not been properly
cleaned and there was leftover starch in it. The test was repeated and glucose tested negative this time.
These results are displayed in Results of Lugol s test for known carbohydrates table. This result
supported the hypothesis that glucose is a monosaccharide not a polysaccharide. Only starch tests
positive because it has a helical shape while the rest are

  • 2. Describe Benihana As An Operating System 1. Describe Benihana as an operating system. Draw a process flow diagram. In a general sense, Benihana s operating system is comparable to your typical American dining restaurant, except that the main entrees are cooked in front of the patrons, which stands as their core differentiator. Since we are given a broad sense of the times for each process, it is most valuable to evaluate their operating system as a process flow (below) based on the experience from the moment the customers walks in to the time they leave. Upon entering and announcing themselves, they can either wait or defer to the lounge for alcohol. Once seated by the waitress, their order is placed, including beverages, soup and salad. After a brief wait, the orders are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To owner, Rocky Aoki and his team, their understanding on consumer patterns became their advantage; the consumer s distrust of exotic food and their enjoyment of eating in exotic surroundings, and the customer s interest in watching their food cooked. Though unique, this system allows the business for greater control on the flow and options given to the customer. On the menu, a variety of appetizers, soup, salad and beverages are offered; however, the limited option to the main entrée: steak, shrimp or chicken allows for the business to control their food expense at a minimal rate of 30 35% in sales. Consequently, less options also equates to less waste since there s less to prep and the majority of each ingredient is utilized for show or consumption (i.e. end pieces of steak is used for show and rarely eaten). When prepped and brought out, the chef does not risk using too much or too little ingredients since it is all portioned and easily prepped to order in the kitchen. As part of the experience, more attentive service is given to the patrons, whereby a waitress and chef is designated for each party. Since there are only two tables with each table serving up to eight patrons at a time the waitress and chef are not overwhelmed. The direct attention given to the patrons by the chefs is savored by patrons; Rocky prides the company s extensive three year formal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These interactions impact the fate of the organisms lives, and that of the rest of the ecosystem. These interactions can either be direct and indirect. A direct organism affects an organism without outside interferences, while an indirect organism interaction is when an organism interacts an organism by its effects on a third organism. The three different direct interactions are competition in which both organisms interacting or negatively effect, mutualism in which both organisms benefit from the direct interactions, and predation in which one organism benefits from the interaction while the other one does not. In an area with a large crab population, you would expect the Ulva sp. to dominate because the Asian shore crabs eat periwinkle snails, resulting in more Ulva sp. because there won t be enough snails to eat them. However, lesser known is the other Lewis Carroll, a man by the name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson; a genius mathematician and photographer, a clever man of logic, and a religious student of Christ Church College in Oxford. Born on January 27, 1832 in Daresbury, England, Dodgson in his sincerity was an individual of copious creativity and ingenuity which occupied his childhood years. Growing up in the isolated countryside village, Charles invented games to entertain his other nine siblings as well as his parents Charles Dodgson and Francis Lutwidge Dodgson. He also begin his contributions to The Comic Times, later called The Train, which displayed several of his poems. It was during this contribution that he felt the need to create a nom de plum, which became the widely known name of Lewis Carroll. At the same time, Carroll began his relationship with the Liddell girls, one of them by the name Alice who would become the basis for the renowned main character of the Alice in Wonderland stories. It was Carroll s particular fondness with young girls that created much controversy even while he lived. In 1856, after Alice Liddell begged Carroll to write the Alice stories down, Carroll decided to take the story to the publisher Macmillan who immediately enjoyed the story and published it. In the same year, Carroll also took up the art of photography, many of his subjects being young girls in which he expressed a beauty, a state of physical perfection found in the human form as it existed. This new hobby, along with his passion for theatre and the rebelliousness his works contained against the strict Victorian era, played a part in the confrontation and questioning of morality to the author. Lewis, not fond of publicity, avoided the public and the questions that came at him. Likewise, As Carroll s fame grew, juxtapose to it was a growing mythology about the author which soon became a false reality rather than myth. During December of 1897, Lewis Carroll, as he usually would do, took a trip down to Guildford to spend Christmas with his sisters. However, a sudden attack of influenze prevented his travels back to the north. A slight horseness turned into the next morning a serious case of illness, and in less than a ... • 5. A Practical Apocalypse The purpose of this essay is to exegetically examine 1st Thessalonians 5:1 11. In this exercise I will seek to elucidate the intention of the author in writing as he has and to show how the specific subject matter of these verses interrelates with the major themes of the Epistle. That Paul is the author of 1st Thessalonians is almost undisputed. Green is in agreement with Wanamaker who comments, No contemporary scholars of repute seem to doubt the Pauline character of the letter. The position taken in this paper, consistent with the majority of scholarly opinion, is that the letter was written around AD 50 51 from Corinth on the occasion of Paul hearing Timothy s report on the Thessalonian Church. Although Donfried comments that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christian faith produces hope where otherwise there would be none (cf 5:8) and faith in Christ changes the nature of grief itself. It is the presence of such faith and hope that distinguishes the believers from the nonbelievers who have no hope. Christian will grieve as they suffer loss but they should not be overcome by it. (4:14) as we will see this distinction between believers and unbelievers will be developed by Paul in chapter 5:4 6 At chapter 5:1 Marshall detects the introduction of a new subject and an answer to a further question the Thessalonians have asked. Green, surprisingly, reconstructs that question as when would the day of the Lord come? However there is no need to anticipate or reconstruct such a question. By using the phrase `you have no need for anything to be written to you Paul is taking the opportunity to further commend the believers, as he had already done when he used the same phrase at 4:9. The Thessalonians had learned well Paul s eschatology and were not asking him about `times and dates. Indeed their attention was very much focussed on more practical issues. If this was not the case then this response would be obtuse, as Wanamaker notes, Paul does not give an answer to the question of when. Verses 2 3 draw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Arthur Miller and His Theater of Mirrors. Reflections on... Throughout his career as playwright, Arthur Miller portrayed critically some of the so called ideals of the American society. Within his numerous plays and short stories, his characters reflect over and over the multilayered American dream, its implications and consequences; the author unveils the ignored ties human beings have with their pasts, demonstrating with his characters that we cannot escape from it but learn from our failures and triumphs. And this is one is one of the major points in Miller s work, as he represents the non learning of American society in every single of his plays. It seems that Miller sacrifices his characters to build a metaphor of how American men and women keep on chasing one of the biggest illusions a society did and still does pursue. Some of them got the belief stuck in their souls and minds so they do not chase it anymore but are trapped on it. Some others are struggling to make sense of their world while being bombarded by their own families with the confusing truth that they are a failure for pursuing individual freedom instead of being part of the big machine s mechanism. In this essay, I comment and analyze in a brief manner the plays and short stories read and discussed in the American Society Through Drama/Literature course identifying some of the key elements that Miller criticized with his work in order to conclude at what extent the mirror creations of Miller are persuasive in his attempt to picture and scrutinize the American ... • 7. The Controversial Debate Of Human Cloning Human cloning has been a very controversial topic for many years now. The term human cloning includes numerous methods that are used to produce genetically identical copies of humans. The copied material, which has the same genetic makeup as the original, is referred to as a human clone (National Human Genome Research Institute). Lost in the midst of all the fuss about cloning is the fact that cloning is nothing new: it s rich scientific history spans more than 100 years (Genetic Science Learning Centre). The first experiments in cloning date back to 1885, when German biologist Hans Driesch split two cell sea urchin embryos. Once separated, each cell grew into two individual sea urchins. This demonstrated that each cell in the early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spemann then loosened the hair on one of the sixteen nuclei, allowing it to slip into the separated cytoplasm (Wilmut Highfield 66). As cell division took its course, Spemann tightened the hair loop again and broke the embryos apart. This resulted in twin salamanders. Spemann created the first in vitro animal clone produced by nuclear manipulation (Genetic Science Learning Centre). During that time period, it was surprise that any of the previous experiments gave positive results. Despite their low success rates, the experiments however did demonstrate that the nucleus retained to its full complement of genetic information (Wilmut Highfield 68) which inspired later scientists to explore mammalian cloning. In 1967, Derek Bromhall decided to tackle the untouched region of mammalian cloning. In order to attempt nuclear transfer for mammalian embryos, Bromhall developed the microsurgical equipment and techniques that were required. By using a glass pipette, Bromhall transferred the nucleus from a rabbit embryo cell into a rabbit egg without a nucleus. He concluded his experiment as a success when an advanced embryo was produced. Although, cloning had led to marvelous discoveries through various experiments, it was not until 1996, when the first mammal was created through somatic cell nuclear transfer. In this astonishing experiment, Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell created a lamb by transferring the nucleus from a lamb sheep udder cell into an enucleated egg. Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some jokes may even stick with us for a lifetime after we ve watch the movie. The films that I chose to watch for the comedy genre were Animal House (1978) and The Newsroom (1987).Animal House (1978) is a comedy film directed by John Land is. Even though it was Shot in 1978 this movie takes place during 1962.This film follows a quest plot of college frat students(The Delta Tau Chi)trying to make their way through school, while opposing a rival frat (Omega Theta Pi) house and an ill tempered dean who has it out to get them. The conflict of this movie is man vs. man or in this specific case man vs. dean. The film starts with Larry Kroeger and Kent Dorfman checking out frat houses to join. Larry is an average handsome guy and Dorfman is his goofy and chubby companion. They start at the Omega Theta Pi house and soon feel out of place by their aesthetic, so they visit Delta Tau Chi and fall in love with the idea of joining this frat house. Other members of the house include Bluto (John), Otter (Eric), Boon (Donald), D Day (Daniel), Hoover, and Stork. Melting Points Lab Report Essay Melting Points Elizabeth McGrail Organic Chemistry I 25 January 2013 ABSTRACT The objectives of this lab are, as follows; to understand what occurs at the molecular level when a substance melts; to understand the primary purpose of melting point data; to demonstrate the technique for obtaining the melting point of an organic substance; and to explain the effect of impurities on the melting point of a substance. Through the experimentation of three substances, tetracosane, 1 tetradecanol and a mixture of the two, observations can be made in reference to melting point concerning polarity, molecular weight and purity of the substance. When comparing the two substances, it is evident that heavy molecule weight of tetracosane allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the range is obtained, remove the thermometer and beaker. Pour out the hot water and allow both the thermometer and the beaker to cool. Once cool, repeat the previous steps with the second compound, tetradecanol. At the conclusion of the second experiment, repeat the steps for a third and final time using an equal mixture of both compounds. Be sure to record the melting point range for all three experiments. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Melting point range for tetracosane: 49 51 degrees Celsius Melting point range for 1 tetradecanol: 37 40 degrees Celsius Melting point range for mixture: 34 37 degrees Celsius I was instructed to record a melting point range for each compound, rather than a single temperature melting point. The reason for this instruction is that polymers and unpure substance melt over a range of several degrees. Based on the melting point ranges for both substances, it is difficult to differentiate the two based on its melting point data alone. The ranges of the substances are close enough to one another that one could argue for experimental error when presenting the data as a solo identifying property. Based on these conclusions, I do not believe the tetracosane is a pure substance because I observed the compound melt over a range of degrees Celsius. If both compounds in the mixture were composed of tetracosane, its melting point would be theoretically, identical to the melting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Red Dog Analysis In the Red Dog and The Turning, the theme of loss is an issue used to shape meaning on the idea of change using specific language choices; the way in which the two themes are seen by the audience to convey the meaning of change. The two texts use the theme of loss to shape meaning of change. In red dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people around him, strengthening the theme of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog (2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s life, and the people around him, especially Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too. The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm with her family. The audience sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and impacts the rest of the story. The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the theme of loss. Not only in dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The audience sees the effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re home now boy Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s voice, a specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to the audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will cause a huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning and Red Dog, the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to create meaning and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these themes and ideas can be better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme of loyalty quite extensively in the first story. • 11. The Money Time Value Theory In Personal Finance 2.2.2 Money Time Value Theory Money time value theory is the basic and the most important principle in personal finance. The time value of money means a certain amount of money will earn more value in the future. In other words, if you decide not to use one dollar now and want to use the money one day in the future, you have more than one dollar to use at that time. There are three reasons why money has time value. The first reason is that money can be used to invest and interest will be earned. People can have more money one day. Another reason is that the purchase power of money will be reduced because of inflation. The third reason is that the expected income in the future is uncertain. The value of money at different moment is different. So when comparing the value of money, we need to converse the money to the same time. Here is the equations to realize that. Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre and Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro both are told from the main protagonists point of view, and brings out their growing self awareness in themselves. The former is able to grow from this experience while the latter is unable to adapt and is therefore his growth is stunted. Jane Eyre , the main character of Jane Eyre is narrating her life from her infancy to her present married life. Her book began with her as a penniless orphan and as she is not directly related to the current head she does not have a position and is not seen as important. as the book progresses the reader is able to in a sense grow up with the child and learn her oddities and her righteousness with morals. One also becomes aware of her grown perception of self. Although she did begin as a strong willed person, her status did not allow her to be conscious of her self first. The main protagonist of Remains of the Day is a butler who begins his story to go visit an old acquaintance that worked with him 20 years ago. Stevens s position as butler, and consequently as servant, has gradually made it impossible for him to show any emotion. Qrt Floods Essay The weather of the months leading up to the South East Queensland floods not only gives an indication of the weather patterns before the flood, but shows the continuity and change in the weather, which ended up causing this catastrophic natural disaster. The SE QLD floods was the result of a continuum of a build up of conditions, which can be seen in the synoptic charts. As seen in the Mid September month, there were many high pressure systems of 1025+ hectopascals affecting australia, in particular the south west areas of the country. With a trough extending from Northern Territory to QLD also brought strengthened conditions to this area of the country. This trough is the beginning of an easterly dip, which are good sources of flood conditions. Some religions believe that animals should not be put on the same level as humans and animals should not use human language. These things are deemed an abomination in the sight of God in many religions. A third reason why it was thought banned is because people thought it was too strange and full of nonsense. Put simply, ABA tells the stomata to close when there isn t enough soil water for transpiration to occur. When ninety percent of the plant s water is lost through the stomata, the turgid guard cells become flaccid, causing the stomata to close. The process behind this is ABA binds to receptors on the surface of the plasma membrane of guard cells. The receptors are then activated, resulting in various pathways connecting to create a couple of occurrences: a rise in Ph in the cytosol and the transfer of calcium ions from the vacuole to the cytosol. What these changes effect is the loss of negatively charged ions, particularly nitrate and the chloride ion from the cell, as well as the positively charged potassium ion. After losing the solutes, cytosol lessens the osmotic pressure and result in the loss of turgidity. The second function mentioned is ABA s ability to improve the plant s potential for soaking up water from the soil. The third is ABA s importance in protecting the cells from dehydrating, by activating the proteins that encode genes, to aid the cells against dehydration damage. Whereas, in bud dormancy (the fourth function mentioned), ABA helps to protect the apical meristem from drying out during winter by making it dormant. The fifth function, a little different than bud dormancy, looks at how ABA affects the process of seed dormancy and maturation, by keeping the seed to dormant until favorable conditions occur ... He believes that through the use of specific tools, commercials can hold the minds of an audience captive, and can control their abilities to think rationally. Visual fascination, one of the tools Scholes believes captures the minds of viewers, can take a simple video, and through the use of editing and special effects, turn it into a powerful scene which one simply cannot take his or her eyes from. While watching the young umpire working a game, we hear the narrator s voice, In the minors you got to make all the calls, and then one day you get the call (Scholes, p. 620), Budweiser uses this catchy phrase in order to grab our attention, to focus us on the commercial in order to look for the blossoming story. This slight play on words has a great effect on a viewer due to the fact that our minds think about the statement, and by the time we realize what is actually happening, the commercial has shown us that the black umpire has just gotten his call. Later in the commercial, after the game has obviously ended, we see the umpire sitting in the same bar as the manager who confronted him about his bad call during the game. Blood Glucose Viscosity Levels Of Non Diabetics And Diabetics Blood Glucose Absorbance Levels of Non Diabetics and Diabetics Over 120 Minutes After Food Consumption Alexis Lester BSC 120 113 October 27, 2015 Dr. Welch Abstract Individuals with diabetes are affected by elevated blood glucose levels in the bloodstream due to inefficient glucose uptake by cells. Blood glucose levels are influenced by many things, especially meals and their glucose content. Therefore, if diabetics cannot correctly regulate their blood glucose levels, particularly after meals, then their readings will be higher than non diabetic levels. In the experiment, the absorbance of simulated blood glucose levels of both diabetic and non diabetic people in 120 minutes following a meal was measured using a spectrophotometer. The blood glucose levels of diabetics were higher than that of non diabetics throughout the entire course of 120 minutes, including at peak levels occurring at 60 minutes. The cause of this was a greater abundance of molecules in the highly concentrated diabetic solutions, which were ready to absorb more light. This demonstrates the ineffectiveness of diabetic metabolic pathways for utilizing glucose compared to that of non diabetics. This research can be taken further to analyze how different types of food influence blood glucose levels. Introduction Type II diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects many people of various ages, genders, and ethnicities all over the world. Many factors contribute to the disease, including ... In many mainstream religions, God s and Goddesses, posses one gender and a male and female distinct and separate beings, yet there is a long standing history of androgyny in mystical writings; that is to say the assertion that male and female qualities were originally contained within one body. The term androgyny is given its roots within Greek mythology. The major underlying assumption of both male and female sex roles is that an individual may act in either traditionally male or female roles, depending solely on the situation and needs of that given situation. According to Swain, D. In patriarchal societies men and masculinity have always been held in higher esteem to women and femininity. Before we venture out on our road to happiness, we have to truly understand what it means to be happy and how we each find our own happiness. As we are all individuals with our own specific characteristics and defining traits, each of us has to find our own way to becoming happy. There are many ways to do this but, in my opinion, being happy derives from having a purpose. Having a purpose and a responsibility in life enables one to live a meaningful life, contributing in our own way to whatever cause we may choose and thus bringing ourselves happiness. The hypothesis is invalid, it is not supported by the data. Mass is a the amount of matter in an object so it always remain the same. As shown on the table, the hooked masses vary depending on the degree of the incline so it cannot be the mass of the cart. In addition, the correct calculation of the mass of the cart proves that the hypothesis is wrong. For the 15 degree incline, the mass of the cart is 19.3kg while the hooked mass is .050kg. The classical management theory, which came about during the Industrial Revolution, focused on the single best way to perform and manage tasks. We chose this question because the majority of the young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness is a condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT themed social gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths towards systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable. Also, it was vital for us to focus only on social outlets that were LGBT centric for these young people, being marginalized members of an already marginalized community, the homeless have distinct needs that other individuals don t. And when these needs aren t met, the consequences can be tragic. Research shows that approximately 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth attempt suicide (Center for American Progress, 2010). She makes numerous other points along the way throughout the writing. O Brien writes about the Vietnam War and emphasizes items that the men carry, switching from point of views sporadically. Both authors write with a reminiscent tone, as if they are looking back on old memories and jotting them down in a notebook. Like she would be able to expand on what happened later, make it up as she goes along. And yet it is precisely that fictitious crab that makes me see the afternoon all over again, a home movie run all too often, the father bearing gifts, the child weeping, an exercise in family love and guilt (Didion 83). John Keats was considered one of the central figures in the second generation of the Romantics. Here in Tintern Abbey, eight years before the completion of the Great Ode, Wordsworth anticipates the totality of its myth. As he listens to the sad music he hears evidence not only of man s mortality but of man s inseparable bond with nature (Abrams.) The emphasis in Tintern Abbey is on things seen and things remembered, on the light of sense, not on the invisible world. The presence of outer nature disturbs the mind, sets it into motion until it realizes that nature and itself are not utterly distinct, that they are mixed together, interfused. The central story of the poem is about aesthetic contemplation and its personal myth of memory as salvation. The misgivings and the ultimate fear of mortality are part of the poem because of Wordsworth s insistence upon autobiographical honesty (Abrams.) The mind, knowing only itself and nature, but remembering a time when nature gave it direct joy, and having remoter memories of an earlier time when it knew itself only in union with nature, is able to turn back through memory for a faith that at last gives courage and a love for others. Blake did not believe in the goodness of the natural heart, and Coleridge could neither believe in nor deny it, but Wordsworth brings its possibility as truth alive into our hearts, as he did into the heart of Keats ... • 45. Should Books Be Banned From Libraries Essay How would you like it if you needed a book for research or if you really liked a certain type of books and they were banned? Books like The Outsiders could be banned for censored information about drugs and alcohol. Libraries have been debating this problem for a long time to get a rule on censorship or no censorship. Censoring in libraries is a big problem. People don t know if certain books should be banned from libraries, and libraries don t know what would be censored and what wouldn t be censored. I don t think books should be banned from libraries because they can show you what not to do and be used for research topics, how would libraries decide what is censored and what isn t, or they could be something that some reader like that others don t like. Censorship should not be put in place because some of the book that are censored my be historic and help people see what not to repeat in life. Books like the one Hitler wrote should not be censored because they show society how to not act and how we can not repeat history. Some old books can be used for research purposes for students and teachers. They can show people helpful things that some people don t understand. These are types of books that could be censored, used in other ways than just for bad use. This Is why books should not be censored because many that would be, contain valuable historic content. Books in libraries should not be censored because of the historic value of the books. I think some drama and romance books that might be censored shouldn t be because some people like that stuff. Romance books like Fifty Shades of Gray might be liked by some people and we shouldn t take away types of books that some people enjoy. Books that tell about very gory and violent things people still like so we shouldn t take away those books. If we took away some drama, romance, or violent books, where would the line be to have them be acceptable? Just because they shouldn t be read by young readers doesn t mean they should be taken away. Parents of the young readers can just tell them not to read the book. They can tell their children not to go to that certain section. • 46. In The Cask Of Amontillado, The Raven, And Annabel Lee The unity of effect is all the elements in a story that channels the effect the author wants the audience to experience. Therefore, to achieve the unity of effect in the Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, and Annabel Lee, Poe used the elements of setting, alliteration, and unreliable narrator to help elicit the unsettling mood in the audience. For the sake of the unity of effect , Poe uses setting for the purpose of conceiving a sinister mood. As Montresor and Fortunato walked deeper into the catacombs in the Cask of Amontillado, Montresor points out the trickling of the water on the bones. We are below the river s bed. The drops of moisture trickle among the bones. (Cask)The setting is under the surface of the earth, so the audience associates it with with Hell because of the bones that lie around. The bones also make the audience feel that the setting is eery and dangerous because it reminds them of death. This only makes isolation and danger prominent factors in the setting. The mood becomes unpredictable and treacherous, with a sense of fear and dread knowing that something bad will happen to the characters who are away from safety. Under those circumstances, Poe controlled the audience s fear and the diabolical mood using the dark setting. Once again Poe uses the unity of effect to elicit this tense mood and draw out terror in the audience. In The Raven, Poe used alliteration with the intention to build a suspenseful mood and dread in the audience. The narrator of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The African patriarchy described in Tsitsi Dangarembga s acclaimed novel, Nervous Conditions, promotes feminist theory through the portrayal of marginalized women in Zimbabwe. Regardless of class or social prowess, women were not permitted the same liberties and regarded with the same respect as their male counterparts. Women found themselves relegated to the positions of household servants, and excluded from the labor markets by the societies males.
