A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur s Court
Even though the setting of both works, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court by Mark Twain and
The Crucible by Arthur Miller, are written in a time period different from their publication, both works use
characters in their novels as a critique of the author s societies. Twain uses his satirical work to make fun of
both the Northern and Southern, but does not make any direct comparisons between the characters of his
novel to real life figures. On the other hand, the characters in Miller s novel are more directly correlated to
specific people and groups during the Second Red Scare.
Even though both novels use certain characters to criticize negative aspects of the author s society, the more

During the Second Red Scare the Hollywood Ten were a group of ten actors, directors, and producers who
according to Senator Joseph Mccarthy had communist ties and were trying to spread Soviet Propaganda
through American society by way of media. Even though these actors may have had slight ties to
communism Miller believed that they did not deserve to be blacklisted from all of media after the trials.
Miller uses John Proctor, the protagonist of his novel, to show the unfairness of these trials. Proctor, while
not perfect, was the most sane and righteous man in the town of Salem during the events of the novel, but
he still was put in jail for a crime that Miller believed would be minor in the eyes of his audiences. Proctor
committed adultery, but did not commit any crimes that would have been generous to Miller s audiences.
Even for this slight crime Proctor was put to death by the judges of Salem. This is in comparison to the
treatment of the Hollywood Ten by Mccarthy and Congress during the Second Red Scare, where there
crimes were slight, but they were put to death anyway due to a power trip by a a few people in power. This
direct comparison between Proctor and the Hollywood Ten allowed Miller to make the Hollywood Ten
seem more innocent and worthy of trust. His use of unfair treatment against Proctor also made it seem to
the audiences that Mccarthy and his

You know, you truly are an amazing person. You are one with a great many talents and skills, ranging from
your intelligence to your creativity. The work you have accomplished in life is awe inspiring, especially
with your art pieces. Throughout the time we had known each other, we have shared many adventures and
many conversations (though... mostly things relating to anime...). Still, I find those moments with you to be
some of the best in my life. While you have a very free spirited and playful attitude, there are times where
you can be very sincere. You have always impressed me on how well you are able to assess/interpret
situations, then acting accordingly to resolve it. You are one who uses a rational and logical approach when
solving the problems presented to you; from what I can tell, you always come up with the best solutions.
Indeed, I view you as a very wise and intelligent mentor. Whenever I sought advice, I had often relied on
you. You had always answered to my calls, regardless of how trivial or serious the subject was (you
especially helped me on matters with regards to Nancy, but I could tell you were having fun). While you do
pick on me from time to time, it has always been in a more light hearted and playful fashion. Though, I will

Out of all first world which would you suspect teen pregnancy be the highest? Of course not our prefect

six months. They broke up and she found out she was pregnant. Leann was alone and afraid. She finally
called the baby daddy and he was so happy and told her he was going to be there every step of the way.
They got back together. LeAnn s mom soon got over the fact she was going to be a grandmother and
accepted it (LeAnn). If condoms would have been offered at her school do you think LeAnn s story would

high schools across American is an idea that some people are completely opposed to for many reasons.
Some say schools should be teaching against underage sexual activity. Also, it is supporting them to engage

Shintoism And The Problem Of Evil And Evil
The national religion of Japan, Shinto, is definitely a unique religion in many ways. It is one of the few
religions that someone cannot convert to. In other words, a person needs to be born into it and grow up with
it. And unlike many religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism, Shinto has no known
founder. With that said, Shinto also has a unique view of the problem of evil and suffering. For some
religions, like Christianity, it is black and white on what they believe about evil. For Shintoism, it is not that
clear. Their main desire is to reach harmony, but they do not stress evil or sin or suffering as much as other
religions do. Yoshida Kanetomo, a prominent Shinto priest during the 15th century, even bypassed the
problem of evil and he took a more optimistic approach. This is a theme in the Shinto religion, even
mentioning Shintoism as a happy religion. So how do they address the problem of evil? Shintoism
addresses the problem of evil in that they strive to drive out evil in order to reach harmony and a state of
purity.
Shintoism believes they should drive evil out completely in their lives. They conceive good and evil in
aesthetic terms. The curved spirit, called the Magutsubi, is around and within humans. This spirit is the
cause of evil deeds, misfortunes, or disasters. There are evil deeds and thoughts because of the works of the
curved spirit. Motohisa Yamakage said it like this, good or moral behavior is associated with balance of

Missouri Compromise Dbq
The Missouri Compromise was only important for preserving the Union for that small period of time. This
is evident through the fact that the Compromise of 1850, Fugitive Slave Law, and other debates occurred
even after the Missouri Compromise. Many Americans agreed that slavery would be the issue that led the
United States to a civil war and the Missouri Compromise was one of many events that delayed the war.
The Missouri Compromise was in 1820 then the South seceded forty years later in 1860. Many Americans
agreed that the issue of slavery could and would lead to a civil war, even Adams who said If the Union must
be dissolved, slavery is precisely the question upon which is ought to break. (Doc 4) and Pinckney said The

IFR represents a significant shift in the thinking approach to solving problems.
The idea of formulating the IFR is to clearly define the goal of improvement and to work back from that
point, thus eliminating rework by solving the right problem initially.
A basic concept of TRIZ is that systems evolve towards increased ideality, where the extreme result of this
evolution is the ideal final result.
2. TRIZ: List and describe each of the 9 laws of evolution. (900 1200 words) (40 points)
Answer: The following are the laws of evolution:
1. Law of increasing degree of ideality: This is the first law of the evolution of technological systems.
Evolution of technological system moves in the direction of an increasing degree of ideality. This means
that in the process of evolution, a system, which executes some functions, becomes less complicated,
costly, it becomes capable of performing its functions better, or it performs more functions. A mixture of
these evolutionary processes also often occurs. For example, early computers need lot of power to operate
and give small output only. But evolution of computer is moving towards ideality.
2. Law of non uniform evolution of subsystems: Any technological organization meets some needs, which
usually grow swiftly than the refinement of the system. This also makes an evolutionary pressure causing
the occurrence of structure conflicts. The rate of evolution of various parts of a system is not uniform;

The Beauty Of The Barbie Fashion Doll
Humans by nature want what they can t get. It s true, we as a species are materialistic. Many of us want the
fastest cars, the biggest houses, the heftiest paychecks, the coolest clothes, and the hottest bodies. We are
also incredibly impressionable; one Budweiser commercial, for example, may convince us to go out and
buy Budweiser brand beer. An Apple commercial can inadvertently coax thousands of average citizens to
drop what they are doing, camp for days outside of the local Best Buy, and wait impatiently to purchase the
newest iPhone which includes the newest, most overrated feature to date. Even the toys we manufacture
perpetuate this endless cycle of unnecessary wants and desires.
According to that archaic proverb, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It s ironic how we hear and repeat
this phrase all the time yet we don t practice what we preach. A good example of this can be found with the
popularity of the Barbie fashion doll. Something as simple as a piece of plastic with fake hair, exaggerated
body features, and miniature outfits can instill in young girls across the world the standard of beauty . With
this fragile, impressionable persona that we have engrained in women over time, it seems as if we are
driving them to their own demise. Through the use of modern day media, toys, and fashion, we have been
betraying women across the globe by mistreatment, underrepresentation, and by sexualizing them.
We blatantly sexualize and misrepresent women with the toys we

Six Hat Method Of Thinking Is Different From Argument
1. Explain how the Six Hat method of thinking is different from Argument . Also, explain how it helps
organizations to 1) explore a subject, 2) make decisions, and 3) reduce the time taken for the project
discussions.
There is a place for argument, and argument is a useful tool of thinking. But argument is inadequate as the
main tool of thinking. Argument lacks constructive energies, design energies, and creative energies.
Pointing out faults may lead to some improvement but does not construct something new. Synthesizing
both points of view does not produce a stream of new alternatives.
Traditional argument is totally useless for such a design process. Instead, we need Parallel Thinking, where
each thinker puts forward his or her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colour of each hat is related to its function:
1) White Hat : The white hat is neutral and objective. The white hat is concerned with objective facts and
figures.
2) Red Hat : Red suggest anger, rage and emotions. It gives an emotional view.
3) Black Hat : Black is sombre and serious. The black hat s cautious and careful. It points out the weakness
in an idea.
4) Yellow Hat : Yellow is sunny and positive. The yellow hat is optimistic and covers hope and positive
thinking.
5) Green Hat : The green hat indicates creativity and new ideas.
6) Blue Hat: Blue is cool and it s also the colour of the sky, which is above everything else. The blue hat is
concerned with control, the organization of the thinking process and the use of the other hats.
The management personnel in an organization can adorn different hats as mentioned above at the initial
point of discussion. An organization if it adopts the Six Hats method in discussions and all those involved
in discussions if they adorn different hats , it is pretty sure that a good decision can be made.
i) How it helps an organization to explore a subject:
The Managing Director of the organization can ask his key personnel to adorn different hats. For example
to start with a blue hat should or always be used both at the beginning and the end of the session and mostly

Buddhism and Hinduism Worldview Essay
Critical Thinking Assignment
I. Part One: Hinduism The Question of Origin is answered by the Hinduism Worldview as everything has
always been in existence and is a part of god (Weider Gutierrez, 2011). A part of the worldview is that the
universe and god is one in the same thing. Hinduism believes that itself has always existed, that it did not
have a creator. God is viewed as an infinite, impersonal force (Weider Gutierrez, 2011). The Question of
Identity is answered by the Hinduism Worldview as everything is spiritual or sacred in life. It s also

(Weider Gutierrez, 2011) . Hindu s believe that everything has always been in existence and is a part of god

Question of Identity is also answered differently in both worldviews. The Christian Worldview believes that
mankind is a special creation of God (Weider Gutierrez, 2011) . Hinduism worldview on the other hand
believe s that the man s soul has no beginning, that it is an eternal force in a physical body. The Question of
meaning or purpose is answered in two opposing views. The Christian Worldview believes that Christianity
is about relationship with God and not simply following the tenants of a religion (Weider Gutierrez, 2011).
While the Hinduism Worldview sees everything around us is an illusion, and that you have to have good
karma to get out of the same lifecycle. The Question of Morality is answered in the Christian s Worldview
as Right or wrong are not relative to man s perspective, but are based upon God s holy standard (Weider
Gutierrez, 2011) . In contrast, the Hinduism Worldview believes that morality and ethics(in a practical
sense) are how one should act toward itself (Weider Gutierrez, 2011). The Question of Destiny is answering
the question what happens after death. Christian s

Difference Between Democracy And Democracy
There are many forms of government all over the world. Governments are very important to how they
allow the population to work together. Two of the most popular forms of government are a dictatorship and
a democracy. Both these governments have their own properties and are unique in every country they are
present in. Democracy is a form of government controlled by the whole population or all the eligible
members of the state, usually through elected representatives. A typical representative democracy means it s
the elected representative s job to represent their voters. A democracy is seen in some of the most powerful
states in the world.
Great Britain is one of the original democratic states. They ve been a democratic regime for many years and
have been a great role model for the rest of the world. Great Britain has shown that democracy not only
brings freedom but peace. Most democratic states are very peaceful.
Singapore had fought for its independence from the colonial grip of Great Britain. It is also a very
egalitarian and liberalized country. It has been one of the biggest trading posts in the world and has become
very wealthy. The (PAP) or People s Action Party was the first universal suffrage movement. It s led the
country for many years, provided many social welfare programs and the people are very supportive of it.
The party has been known for imprisonment and harassment but no known disappearances.
Dictatorships are mostly a bad thing but

Persuasive Essay On Decriminalizing All Drugs
We all have an interest in making sure teens grow up healthy and drug free. John Walters Would you like to
live in a safer, drug free community? I do and here is how to start: by decriminalizing all drugs! Since
Richard Nixon coined the phrase War on Drugs in 1971, America has failed miserably to reduce the
consumption and traffic of illicit drugs from outside our borders. Although a heavy portion are against
decriminalizing drugs because of short term consequences and health concerns in public communities,
Portugal s evident sixteen year experience with drug decriminalization has proven otherwise with
significant, long term positive outcomes. However, due to the long lasting and persuasive positive
outcomes of decriminalization, it is vital that the U.S. strongly reconsiders the prohibition of all drugs for
the health and economic benefit of our communities. Obviously, there will be short term consequences but
also benefits too. Unfortunately, the hype of decriminalizing drugs will cause an increase in the number of
users but it is important to note that a considerable amount of those being newly documented are closet
junkies finally being revealed. As Dr. Caitlin Hughes, a member of the Drug Policy Modelling Program of
the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre puts it, Portuguese decriminalization did not lead to major
increases in drug use. Indeed, evidence indicates reductions in problematic use, drug related harms and
criminal justice overcrowding (Hughes; Stevens). As this research shows, the predictions on Portugal s well
being after the decriminalization of all drugs were incorrect and the complete opposite occurred creating
healthy and safer communities because of awareness. Bringing our attention back to the increasing number
of users within the hype years, public safety is a large concern where communities will have a difficult time
adapting to the new policy and becoming accustomed to a new culture and lifestyle. On the contrary, I find
a few years of craziness to be minimal in comparison to the long term achievement that this law intends to
achieve. Portugal has proved that decriminalization reduces drug use, drug related harms, and criminal
justice overcrowding. João Goulão,

Queen Gertrude in Shakespeare s Hamlet a Victim not Murderer
Gertrude never seems to get in the middle of Hamlet and Claudius disputes, so many tend to assume that
she is involved in King Hamlet s murder. However, there is an abundance of in text evidence that suggests
she is very innocent and oblivious to Claudius plots throughout the play. Most of this evidence supporting
that Gertrude has nothing to do with King Hamlet s sudden death. From the start, Gertrude comes off as a
very clueless and almost blind character to the things happening around her. She mourns for the death of the
man she loved, but with her country in mind does what she thinks is best. Sadly, while doing so, she
involves herself in a dispute that turns deadly. It is very obvious throughout the play that Queen Gertrude

Instead of asking ridiculous questions and going haywire, like her new husband, Gertrude simply comments
on the acting by saying, ? The lady protests too much, methinks? (Shakespeare 3.2.168). She even becomes
baffled by Claudius? strange behavior when he screams, ?Give me some light, away!? (Shakespeare
3.2.172). Gertrude clearly did now know the plot line of the play before having seen it, therefore she could
not have been involved in the making of it earlier in the play. When problems with Ophilia and Hamlet
arise, Claudius simply sees this as another opportunity to quiet Hamlet. He encourages the relationship,
hoping if Hamlet is seeing Polonius? daughter, he wont speak out about his suspicions of Claudius.
Although, when Gertrude gets word of these news, she sees this as a completely different opportunity. She,
unlike her new husband, encourages the relationship in hopes that it will cheer up her son and he will return
to normal. She says to Ophilia, ?And for your part, Ophelia, I do wish that your good beauties be the happy
cause of Hamlet s wildness. So shall I hope your virtues will bring him to his wonted way again, to both
your honors? (Shakespeare 3.1.136). Gertrude only thinks of her sons well being. In which case, if she had
been involved in King Hamlets murder, she would probably be more worried about not being caught
instead of how to make Hamlet happy again. If Gertrude was Claudius? partner in crime, one would assume
that he would let her in

The Struggle Of Survival By Sherman Alexie
The Struggle of Survival
Imagine growing up in a place where everyone is poor, there is only one road going through the town, one
school, and one store. Now imagine having a tragic ancestral history of people who were taken advantage
of, massacred, and forced into the slums of society. For the people who live in this place, this means there
are little to no resources or opportunities to prosper and make a better life. Also everyone there is being
dragged down by a history of abuse and these misfortunes are still affecting them in present day. The book
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie follows a young Indian boy through his
experiences on an Indian reservation. in the short stories Alexie demonstrates the good, the bad, and the
ugly of what goes on native American reservations. There is a deep longing of men to be warriors, because
they have a need to get ahead of their tragic history, and survive the harsh societies that try to keep them
down, as second class citizens.
Native Americans are constantly trying to escape their tragic history. The short story Every Little Hurricane
observes a typical night for a young native American boy on an Indian reservation. he describes the adults
surrounding him getting drunk and being reckless. towards the end of This night the boy describes a
significant moment when his uncle and father have a drunken petty fight. the fight is described as,

Mercutio s Death
Romeo and Juliet is known for one of the most famous tragic plays written by William Shakespeare
because this story is describing their fateful encounter and sorrowful death which were happened in only
five days. The main characters, Romeo and Juliet meet by chance, and they fall in love at first glance.
However, they come from Montagues and Capulets respectively, and the families are in an adversarial
relationship. At first, their love is described pleasantly using a lot of humor, but the situation becomes
serious after Mercutio, who is Romeo s friend, dies. Additionally, the poison that causes death of Romeo
and Juliet is given by friar Lawrence. In Romeo and Juliet , young children die because of the state of their

Although the relationship is described roughly, it is a base of this story. From their remarks and actions, it is
clear that they hate each other. However, at the end of this story, Montagues and Capulets is reconciled
regretting that they force Romeo and Juliet into death. Only two young children s death can stop the two
families from detesting each other. Second, Mercutio s death is how the tragedy all starts. At first, he is
described as a jocular person who often use vulgar jokes. However, he accepts a challenge from Tybalt and
because of this duel he dies although Romeo stands Tybalt s provocation. Moreover, after Mercutio s death,
Romeo kills Tybalt, and he is banished from Verona. Because of Mercutio s foolish action, Romeo and
Juliet starts to be tragic. Finally, friar Lawrence is a person who let Romeo and Juliet get married, and gives
them a dangerous tool that can kill them. Friar Lawrence try to let Montagues and Capulets make up with
by mediating Romeo and Juliet because he wishes a reconciliation. However, the action of making use of
two pure young children causes their death. The most harmful action that he does is that he gives a poison
to Juliet who is only thirteen years old. Although the poison can not kill people, Romeo and Juliet die
because of the poison. All the actions of Friar Lawrence is temporary and risky, and he

Goblin Market Sisterhood
Goblin Market and Sisterhood At the surface level, Goblin Market appears to be just a children s poem
about being a hero and the importance of sisters. Delve into a deeper level and you find, as Lona Mosk
Packer puts [an] emotional experience universally valid, (375). Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin Market
has three main themes that critics argue: the importance of sisterhood, the sexual implications and the
dangers of erotic love and a Christ like sacrifice. These themes appear through the language used, the
allusions and comparisons made throughout.
In this poem, there are a lot of implications of Christ and how Lizzie is the embodiment of Christ, even
though she is a woman. In the poem, Lizzie is seen as the redeemer of Laura; ... Show more content on

was focused on the strides (173) this signifies that Kosuke does not dwell on his mistakes, the past or his
fears, rather, he focuses on moving forward. Nisha then realizes how different her and Kosuke truly are, he
moves forward and is fearless whereas she wants to blend into the crowd and feel like she belongs. This
gets Nisha thinking about the reason she came to Paris, besides the hopes of loving Pierre, she came due to
fear. Fear of being trapped in a career path she doesn t enjoy accompanied by the expectations and stresses
that come along with it.

The Ideological Concept Of Insanity Defense
The ideological concept of an insanity defense, formerly termed complete madness, was originally
incorporated into the English common law jurisprudence system in the late thirteenth century of the United
Kingdom as an affirmative defense for defendants under the yoke of criminal charges involving a heinous
action which could involve the option of termination of a defendant s life if adjudge guilty of such act
(Hill). Through such incorporation of a legal defense, the institution of a new societal grouping known
commonly as the criminally insane became expounded, as well as, the legal opportunity allowing for self
declaration of being innocent by reason of mental illness or defect (or, the insanity defense). Those
criminally insane are a subset of the prison population who have been deemed to have committed their
crimes under the influence of a mental disease/disorder, or who were not in a condition of intellect during
the time of the crime to comprehend the illegality or immorality of their offense (Frontline). Only if the
defendant has plead insanity before the court can they be considered a truly criminally insane inmate. There
are manifold condemnations sustained by the judicial system ranging from guilty but insane to not guilty by
reason of insanity, as well as the legal states of incompetency and diminished capacity. This distinction has
become a substance of federal law, but as soon as a defendant is convicted, the treatment of the convicted
individual is left

Rolling Wheels Case Study
Rolling wheels
The whole industry of cars being advertized to the public by toys, games, shows and so on, have always
had this target to consumers (parents) to buy these toys most specifically to their male kids and young adult.
This matter gives a social idea that male children had to interact with manly like toys that gave the children
there gender role of being a male begging or stating the stage of what your suppose to like as you grow up
because of your sex. Respectively being a child, seeing a toy car was something you naturally approached
to and were not told nothing if you played with it unless you for some chance tried to play with a doll or
play house and were told not to by a parent. There response for restricting you to these other toys was most
likely because that s for girls to play I never wondered why there was such restrictions between girl and boy
toys; I just knew I had to stick to cars. In my case I may have gotten a response like this in my childhood
one day after school playing with the apartment neighbors, girl from school, on the stairwell playing with
her toy horse and doll when my mother came out and told me not to play with that to instead bring one of
my toys out to play. Toy cars have been in throughout my whole life and have inspired me to pursue a
career on what I have come to love most which all started with a toy car I got as a present as a child.
The first most significant toy car I got as a child was a new bright remote 1:6

Software s new vision statement and mission statement demonstrates the company s commitment to deliver

Differences Between Troy And The Iliad
As the last scene of movie Troy fades, we see the words inspired by Homer s The Iliad . There is no doubt
that the Iliad is one of the greatest poems of all time and, therefore, it has inspired multiple works of art
over almost three thousand years of its existence. One of these works is the film Troy, which attempts to
make an adaptation that reflects the Greek culture and appeals to the modern audience at the same time. In
this essay Troy will be compared with the Iliad through examination of time spans, intended audiences,
portrayals of Helen, Achilles and Hector, main themes of both sources and conveyed messages.
One significant difference between the Iliad and Troy is the timespan. The Iliad is not a story of a Trojan
war, but a story of a hero s wrath. The time span it covers is only a few weeks in the tenth year of the siege
of Troy. Homer chooses to focus on events that occurred during a quarrel of King Agamemnon, king of
Mycenae and brother of Menelaus, and Achilles, the most powerful warrior of the Achaean army. Homer
doesn t go into detail about other events and battles, as the story of the Trojan War was well known to the
Greek society because it has been told and retold by bards for numerous times and the general plot was still
fresh in the minds of the Greeks. For his poem to stand out, Homer had to be original, so he didn t tell his
audience about the war as a whole, but rather spotlighted the wrath of an individual hero, Achilles. Troy, ...

The Caine Mutiny
The 1954 film The Caine Mutiny tells the story of an seemingly attempted mutiny aboard the USS Caine.
Based on the book by the same name, The Caine Mutiny focuses on the tension between a newly appointed
commander and the crew of the ship. Prior to the new commander s arrival, the crew on the ship do not
always follow the strict rules of the Navy, and the new commander begins to enforce them. As the movie
progresses, it seems as though the new commander is the antagonist; he is very harsh with the crew and is
frequently punishing them. In addition, one of the crew members, Lieutenant Keefer, persuades the other
members that the new commander is mentally unfit, leading to a perceived mutiny. However, it is revealed
that Keefer is behind the removal of the commander due to his hatred of the Navy. The Caine Mutiny tells
the story of a clash between the commander and the crews members of the USS Caine and the theme of
how perceptions can be distorted is still relevant today.
The movie The Caine Mutiny follows an Ensign in the United States Navy named Willie Keith. Keith is
assigned to the ship USS Caine, who is then taken over by Lieutenant Commander Queeg. Lieutenant
Commander Queeg is unpopular among the crew due to his serious nature. Previously, rules on the USS
Caine were lax; Queeg, however, enforces them. He does multiple things that concern the crew, such as
letting the ship run over its own towline and his directions for the ships during a storm. One of the crew

A rich tradition from Socrates, Rousseau, Dewey, Piaget and onwards has emphasised the role of teacher as
promoter of questions and exchange within the context of a learning relationship.... Student, staff, and
learner engagement is promoted not by traditional leader characteristics (rational, analytic, dispassionate)
but rather by leaders with emotional intelligence, a coaching orientation, authenticity and humility....
Making such a personal connection can simply involve talking to students on a more informal level and
engaging with them as people rather than exclusively as students. It also involves raising our awareness and
developing some understanding about the lives of students. Students often lead complex lives and staff
need to understand that wider context: perhaps adjusting to living on their own for the first time, feeling
lonely, making friends, caring for parents, dealing with grief, coping with a disability or simply juggling
other commitments including family life or employment (Harding, J. Thompson J., 2011, P.

The Function of the Quest or Journey Motif in the Apology...
The quest, in the classical era to the modern notions of the word has meant a coming of age or to notions of
learning where at the beginning there was nothing known. The quest in its very nature is a search to find an
answer, an artifact of power and wealth or perhaps even for peace; in the platonic dialogues they play a
crucial role in the Apology of Socrates and the Crito. The Apology in the trial and death of Socrates is an
example of a quest or journey motif applied, whether or not quest or journey is the preferred word is left to
you who are reading this. In the apology, Plato is accused of corrupting the youth of Athens and of Atheism,

It is to fulfill some such function that I believe the god has placed me in the city and further claims his
works were for the betterment of the people in his state, never to have charged a fee to teach and never to
have been a madman as portrayed by the play of Meletus, Aristophanes, a portrayal of him walking on air
and a series of nonsense. From an alternate perspective the Apology is more or less a dissection of the
journey motif in a narrative as it explains the process of how Socrates arrived at his ill fate of death and
condemnation by his peers, mirrored by other forms of storytelling like Shakespeare s literary works.
A point to be taken of the quest motif applied to the apology is the actions taken by asking the questions he
needed to deduce that politicians were liars to the people, poets didn t understand their own meanings and
works and that craftsmen were pretentious speaking as if he were the voice of the oracle of Delphi. His
actions thus earning him the ire of the people he claimed to such, the most prominent of which in their
stand against Socrates were Meletus, Anytus and Lycon, this represents the establishment of an antagonistic
force to be combated by Socrates in his defense, an important part of the motif that purveys the story to
continue on.
In retrospect the use of the quest in the apology is to convey the knowledge learned by

Essay about Father Roles Heaney
Father Roles Heaney Father Roles
There are many factors that will shape a young boy s life, but possibly none more important than the role of
that boy s father. Seamus Heaney and Theodore Roethke both have shown the importance of the father role
in their poems Digging and My Papas Waltz. Although the roles of the fathers in these poems were
different, the respect and admiration shown by their sons is one in the same. Weather it is Heaney s father
digging under his window, or Roehtke s father dancing him around as a little boy, the love shown in these
two poems, shows a direct relation on the lives they shared with their fathers.

Corked sloppily with paper. This shows that while Heaney decided not to follow in his fathers footsteps, he
loved and cared for his father regardless (Glover 543). Overall, Heaney s love for his father was a powerful
factor in his deciding to become a writer.
Roethke s peom, My Papas Waltz , shows us a completely different relationship among the father and son.
In the opening line, we read The whisky on your breath/could make a small boy dizzy; this, to some, arises
suspicion as to weather this is a happy dance, or a violent one. Many will debate over weather or not this
represents a happy time or a violent relationship, but this is further clarified when Roethke writes But I
hung on like death this shows that the boy was in fact having fun dancing with his father (Magill 1453).
You can sense the anger in the mother as you read My mothers countenance/could not unfrown itself. This
shows that despite the mothers feelings of anger towards the dance, the son was enjoying it, so they went on
(Malkoff 344). The last two lines of the poem further illustrate the boys love for the dance with his father;
Then waltzed me off to bed/still clinging to your shirt. This shows that after a long day of work, the boys
father would come home and have a drink, and then waltz Theodore around the kitchen. The love between
Roethke and his father is shown throughout the poem, and can be seen in many ways, some wish to view

The Success Of Becoming A Millionaire
What is success exactly? There are so many different variations of how you can achieve success. Success
does not just come in a neat package all wrapped up with a bow on top, sometimes success requires a
struggle. Success can be something small or it can be something big. For example you could consider
getting an A on a test a success or becoming a millionaire a success, there are different levels of success.
One aspect of success that that has not been taken into consideration, which is in order for you to be
successful you must be happy, at least that is what I believe. Going back to the example of becoming a
millionaire, sure you may be happy about having money at first but soon having all the money in the world
will not make a difference to you. You will go day after day wishing for something more and it probably
will be something that money cannot buy. However if you are happy with your job and how you earned the
money that is a different story, you have succeeded. According to Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary
success is defined as the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence.
When I talked to Amy Strawn, who is the children s pastors wife at my church, she had a few different
definitions of what exactly success was. Her first comment was about success within her faith. Success to
me is living my life in a way that is pleasing to God. I want to impact the most people I can for the
Kingdom of Heaven. Success is sharing Jesus in a true and genuine way.

The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz
In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the author L. Frank Baum uses colors to represent emotions and
characteristics of the characters and settings in the story. Baum s use of colors not only brought the
characters to life, but also allowed the reader to understand their points of view and motivation in every
scenario. Even children at young ages can comprehend the deep meaning of colors. Infants learn basic color
interpretation such as red objects represent anger while white characters symbolize good. Baum uses colors
to a greater extent when he takes his protagonist Dorothy through the magical land of Oz. Colors in this
novel play a crucial part in separating Dorothy s home life in Kansas from her adventure through Oz. L.
Frank Baum s use of colors in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz symbolize maturity, loyalty and protection
within the characters of the novel. To begin this tale, L. Frank Baum opens with Dorothy in her hometown
Kansas. Dorothy s time in Kansas is surrounded by the color gray. The unemotional color gray symbolizes
subdued, boring and drab (empower yourself with color psychology). In the novel, Dorothy is an excited
child who wants to play and express her creativity. A setting such as Kansas is not the place for her. In
Kansas, everything is subdued because most of the population is older and more mature than Dorothy is.
This brings a feeling of boredom to Dorothy because relative to her, the rest of the town is very drab or
lacking in spirit. Baum brilliantly set an

Secession Dbq
1) The secession was a pivotal moment in American history. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president
in 1860, it caused alarm in several Southern states since he did not receive a single electoral vote from
them. Since he was the first from the political Republican Party to become president, nobody quite knew
what to expect and the South feared that he would disregard and corrode their values. Lincoln desired to
place the slaveholding states under the non slaveholding states to prevent slavery from spreading, which
was the last straw that pushed South Carolina to secede on December 20, 1860. Even before Lincoln s
inauguration on March 4, 1861, seven states seceded. They elected a man from Mississippi, Jefferson

tends to have more verity of word that the culture B about the aspect.
For example, in English words related family relationship might be 20 or less: aunt, uncle, father, mother,

2. The critics of Sapri Whorf Hypothesis had insisted the bond between culture and language, doubts the
relevance of person s view of the world. The example of Shona which tribe has only three category of
colors does not mean that Shona s eye is psychologically different; and can t see rainbow as English
speakers do. It s just hard to speak the definition of the color. Moreover, Whorf probably didn t consider
dead metaphors for Hopi language.
For example, God be with you, doesn t mean that person will imagine God being with him.
I do admit that Sapir Whorf Hypothesis s example has some risk of uncertainties as it is hard to totally
understand culture of Shona or Hopies for Whorf of other people. However, I do not agree that it Sapir
Whorf Hypothesis is wrong twofold: one is the hypothesis is more related to mental state of people rather
than physiological state; and the other is dead metaphor still affects in other way. First, even though it is
true that people physiologically that human eyes are same, it doesn t mean they recognize at the same way
as others.
For example there is an experiment from

The Design And Aesthetic Appeal
The design and aesthetic appeal between the two models was uncanny. Patented features such as rubber
banding, in which a screen image bounces slightly when a user tries to scroll past the bottom, were
identical. Same with pinch to zoom, which allows users to manipulate image size by pinching the thumb
and forefinger together on the screen. And on and on. We look at Samsung s record of patent infringement,
among other ruthless business tactics, and explains why Apple might win the battles but still lose the war.
Samsung threatened if any claims for patent infringement were thrown their way they would retaliate with
the same charges. If Apple executives pursued a claim against Samsung for stealing the iPhone, Samsung
would come right back at them with a theft claim of its own. The battle lines were drawn. In the months and
years that followed, Apple and Samsung would clash on a scale almost unprecedented in the business
world, costing the two companies more than a billion dollars and engendering millions of pages of legal
papers, multiple verdicts and rulings, and more hearings.
Patent infringement is unlawful and thus there is a necessary obligation to avoid it. Samsung was found
guilty on 6 of the 7 patent infringement cases and Apple was awarded 600 million dollars in damages from
Samsung for the infringement battle, however Samsung essentially won the war. The Samsung brand had
become a household name, with a huge percentage of the industry s consumers loyal to

A Brief Look at Karl Marx
A person does not have to positively impact the world to be influential. Karl Marx certainly left a mark on
the world, but whether his impact was revolutionary or simply detrimental is up to debate. Marx was
largely influenced by the ideas of Enlightenment figures like Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and Hegel. Most
know him in regard to his writing the Communist Manifesto and its influence on revolutions that led to the
formation of notoriously oppressive communist states. His ideas form the base of modern international
communism, and for that Michael Hart gives Karl Marx a ranking of twenty seven in his book The 100: A
Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History. This ranking seems accurate given the factors that
influenced him, his accomplishments, and their effects on the world. Karl Marx drew from the philosophies
of the great thinkers of his time to perfect his ideal communist system. He was born into a time when ideas
of the Enlightenment were widespread. He read the works of Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and the Comte
de Saint Simon (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). However, he was especially influenced by G.W.F.
Hegel, the most prominent philosopher in Germany in the early 1800s (Microsoft Encarta). Hegel believed
that ideas evolve through a continual process of contradiction and resolution and that human history is
driven by this evolution. Consequently, Marx developed the belief that history evolves through a series of
conflicts in a predictable, unavoidable

Retributivism Vs Utilitarian Theory
The concept of morality and moral rules and laws has as its corollary, the concept of rule breaking or acting
immorally. A common response to immoral behavior is punishments, which leads me to ask the question:
how is punishment justified? In his article The Classic Debate , American legal philosopher Joel Feinberg
lays out the main points of discourse between the two major theories of justified punishment, which I will
deconstruct. Feinberg asserts that there are two main theories used to justify punishment: Retributivism and
Utilitarianism. These two theories supposedly oppose each other such that they are mutually exclusive and
jointly exhaustive (Feinberg). The latter of these theories, Utilitarianism, is the main concern of this ...

The second thesis of pure moralistic retributivism, that moral guilt is a sufficient condition for punishment,
is far more contentious (Feinber 647). One of the common counterarguments to this point which Feinberg
notes is similar to the old addage two wrongs don t make a right . If punishment is justified irrespective of
future consequences, and it is assumed that the chosen punishment (i.e. prison time, fine) isn t itself a good,
than how can this negative action be justified if it doesn t necessarily bring about some goodness?
Retributivists often respond by using the example of sadness as a response to suffering. Neither sadness nor
suffering are inherently good, but sadness in response to someone else s suffering is uniquely appropriate
(Feinberg 647). In the same way that sadness is the appropriate response to suffering or teachers grade is
the appropriate response to a students performance on a test, punishment is the appropriate response to
moral guilt on the basis of justice. The concept of justice , the assignment of action on the basis of desert
alone, will become imporant later. Another critique raised by Feinberg relates to the third thesis of pure
moralistic retributivism: that punishment must be proportionate to the moral gravity of the offense. This
thesis implies a number consequences which are problematic. Firstly, if

The report provides the insight on the importance of leadership and management qualities in daily life
businesses, whether it is private or public.
Discussion Leadership and management are two important skills that determines your capability in a
business. Leadership is the ability of an individual to lead others on right path, at right time. Different
situation demands different styles of leadership. Leadership is about understanding others, believing in
yourself and work with others to lead your company or business to new level of success. Management is the
functional body which guides and instructs people engaged in an organization to achieve the targeted goals.
Management is considered as most important skill in modern world. All leading companies, hospitals,
schools and all other sectors (public or private) are paying more intention to improve their management
systems. Basically, management is an art of making problems simple.
Qualities of a Good Leader Rath and Conchie (2009) had explained in their book Strengths Based
Leadership that in order to become a good leader, one should have to be familiar with his or her strengths
and weaknesses. An individual should focus more on his/her strengths than weaknesses because every
individual has different talent .Daniel Goleman (1995) also states that IQ and Expertise are not only two
factors to judge an individual capability in business but there are many others talents and competences
which

Dorothea Lange And The Migrant Woman
During the first half of the 20th century, Photographs, songs, and cartoons tried to interpret the problems of
the time through different kinds of imagery and tone with varying amounts of success, from praise and awe
to disgust and rejection.
In the early 20th century, Americans were suffering from the Great Depression and its high unemployment
rates, droughts and terrible living conditions, so when they first saw the series of photographs by Dorothea
Lange, including the Migrant Mother, they were in awe of how it captured their situation, as well as their
beliefs, perfectly. Not only did they represent the people as dignified human beings whose plight would
elicit sympathy, not ridicule, Lange s photos captured the idea that Poverty was a distressing matter..., not
an embarrassing one, simply by photographing people on the streets they were living on, filming them in
their element. People were in pain and just by taking photos of this problem, with some modifications and
positioning, Lange s art became a tireless and universal symbol of suffering in the face of adversity with its
portrayal of regular people in dire situations. What also made the photos as popular as it was, and still is, is
how they reference fundamental and historic religious symbolism, especially the Migrant Mother whose
imagery of a woman tirelessly caring for her children alludes to the similar historical representations of
Madonna and her child, Jesus Christ. While beloved for the realism of her

Nadine Gordimer s Country Lovers
It has been known throughout the years the class conflicts between people around the world and how it
affects many, but during today s times it is not as bad as the times when racial segregation took place
between South Africa s white minority and non white majority. Nadine Gordimer, is a born and raised
South African novelist whose writings focused on exile and alienation. She wrote many novels and short
stories that related to South Africa s unjust political situation between the whites and non whites in the 1900
s. One of the short stories that she wrote is Country Lovers which portrays the life in South Africa during
those times and how apartheid, a policy that controlled any type of relation between white and black South

Nadine conveys the way that the non whites were not able to, or were not given the opportunity to become
someone in life. Instead, they stayed as the working class. Class seemed to have played a big part in the
reading because it draws attention to the way that the whites, which were the higher class, were treated and
how they had better chances of success in life than blacks, which were the lower or working class. Growing
up the white children were sent off to the best schools setting them in the path of prosperity while the black
children had little to no school and had not many opportunities. Although most of the black children get
some schooling, they drop every years farther behind the grades passed by the white children... (p. 332)
Black South Africans did not have the money to send their children to good schools which did not allow
them to become educated like the children of the rich white families. They, unfortunately, had to grow up to
be illiterate farm workers and servants just like their families; following their traditions and ways of living.
Moreover, Paulus and Thebedi, the two main characters in the story, were not able to share or grow their

Capital Budgeting Of Florida Department Of Education
Capital Budgeting in Florida Department of Education
Introduction
Capital planning and budgeting is a very vital piece in the Public Budgeting System process. It is an
essential implement in the financial management practice and is effective in both public and private
organizations. It is the method which consists of the determination and the evaluation of the investments
and the possible expenses by an organization. As explicate by Lee, Johnson, Joyce (2008), capital budgets
help in determining how much of each form of investment is needed, and it supports an organization in
assessing the available revenue which includes loans is required to finance those investments (p. 475).

Elements Of Nature And Culture
Elements that seem to inherently contradict or oppose one another are often represented both as separate
and holistic entities within our environment. For instance, concluding the exact meanings of terms without
extensive research or knowledge of them isn t always the correct conclusion. Throughout this paper, two
seemingly separate entities, nature and culture, will be defined both separately and together. Examples will
be given that define both nature and culture, and demonstrate how they are both different and related.
Nature and culture are not as opposing as one might think, and through analysis of both terms, a new
understanding can be reached.
Nature, as stated in the slides of January 23rd, is a biophysical entity, meaning that it comprises biotic and
abiotic natural substances within the environment. Nature is something which is often thought of as an
objective element which is separate from our society. Culture, in opposition, also stated in the slides of
January 23rd, is something that is a human made creation. It is a subjective, social entity. In the slides of
January 16th, culture is also defined as a learned way of thinking, feeling, and believing. It is something
that has been handed down by older generations and is continually remade.
Often used in many different places is the comparison of the two terms, nature and wilderness . The two are
usually seen together. Wilderness is usually one of the first things one thinks

How Sugar Affects The Melting Rate Of Ice Research
The Effect of Sugar On The Melting Rate Of Ice.
Abstract:
The melting rate of each type of ice cube was different, depending on whether they had sugar in them or
not. One type of ice cube contained sugar, where the other one didn t, and as a result, the lowering of the
freezing point of the water seemed to be affected by the sugar.
Introduction:
I conducted this experiment to see whether sugar would cause the ice cube to melt faster. There were two
different types of ice cubes; just pure water, and water that contained sugar.
Liquid water contains molecules that are disordered and jumbled, but when it is frozen, the molecules
become ordered and regular. The sugar molecules don t fit into this, so when you freeze the water, the water
freezes first and the sugar stays behind in the liquid part as the ice develops. Sugar makes the ice harder to
form, therefore lowering the freezing point. By lowering the freezing point, it keeps the ice from re freezing
as easily, helping to melt the rest of the ice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only dependent variable is the time the ice cubes take to melt. The controlled variables are the size of
the ice cube, and the room conditions they melted in.
Aim:
To see which type of ice cube melts faster (the one with or without sugar).
Hypothesis:
If the sugar in the ice cubes will cause the ice cubes to melt quicker than the ones without it.
Equipment:
 1 tablespoon (20 g) White Sugar
 280 ml of water (this needed to be divided in half for the different types of ice cubes, so 140 ml for each
ice tray and 10 ml for each cube)
 2 ice trays (with 14 cube slots)

  • 2. A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur s Court Even though the setting of both works, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court by Mark Twain and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, are written in a time period different from their publication, both works use characters in their novels as a critique of the author s societies. Twain uses his satirical work to make fun of both the Northern and Southern, but does not make any direct comparisons between the characters of his novel to real life figures. On the other hand, the characters in Miller s novel are more directly correlated to specific people and groups during the Second Red Scare. Even though both novels use certain characters to criticize negative aspects of the author s society, the more direct comparison between certain characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Second Red Scare the Hollywood Ten were a group of ten actors, directors, and producers who according to Senator Joseph Mccarthy had communist ties and were trying to spread Soviet Propaganda through American society by way of media. Even though these actors may have had slight ties to communism Miller believed that they did not deserve to be blacklisted from all of media after the trials. Miller uses John Proctor, the protagonist of his novel, to show the unfairness of these trials. Proctor, while not perfect, was the most sane and righteous man in the town of Salem during the events of the novel, but he still was put in jail for a crime that Miller believed would be minor in the eyes of his audiences. Proctor committed adultery, but did not commit any crimes that would have been generous to Miller s audiences. Even for this slight crime Proctor was put to death by the judges of Salem. This is in comparison to the treatment of the Hollywood Ten by Mccarthy and Congress during the Second Red Scare, where there crimes were slight, but they were put to death anyway due to a power trip by a a few people in power. This direct comparison between Proctor and the Hollywood Ten allowed Miller to make the Hollywood Ten seem more innocent and worthy of trust. His use of unfair treatment against Proctor also made it seem to the audiences that Mccarthy and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Goldfish Monologue You know, you truly are an amazing person. You are one with a great many talents and skills, ranging from your intelligence to your creativity. The work you have accomplished in life is awe inspiring, especially with your art pieces. Throughout the time we had known each other, we have shared many adventures and many conversations (though... mostly things relating to anime...). Still, I find those moments with you to be some of the best in my life. While you have a very free spirited and playful attitude, there are times where you can be very sincere. You have always impressed me on how well you are able to assess/interpret situations, then acting accordingly to resolve it. You are one who uses a rational and logical approach when solving the problems presented to you; from what I can tell, you always come up with the best solutions. Indeed, I view you as a very wise and intelligent mentor. Whenever I sought advice, I had often relied on you. You had always answered to my calls, regardless of how trivial or serious the subject was (you especially helped me on matters with regards to Nancy, but I could tell you were having fun). While you do pick on me from time to time, it has always been in a more light hearted and playful fashion. Though, I will say that at times, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Shintoism And The Problem Of Evil And Evil The national religion of Japan, Shinto, is definitely a unique religion in many ways. It is one of the few religions that someone cannot convert to. In other words, a person needs to be born into it and grow up with it. And unlike many religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism, Shinto has no known founder. With that said, Shinto also has a unique view of the problem of evil and suffering. For some religions, like Christianity, it is black and white on what they believe about evil. For Shintoism, it is not that clear. Their main desire is to reach harmony, but they do not stress evil or sin or suffering as much as other religions do. Yoshida Kanetomo, a prominent Shinto priest during the 15th century, even bypassed the problem of evil and he took a more optimistic approach. This is a theme in the Shinto religion, even mentioning Shintoism as a happy religion. So how do they address the problem of evil? Shintoism addresses the problem of evil in that they strive to drive out evil in order to reach harmony and a state of purity. Shintoism believes they should drive evil out completely in their lives. They conceive good and evil in aesthetic terms. The curved spirit, called the Magutsubi, is around and within humans. This spirit is the cause of evil deeds, misfortunes, or disasters. There are evil deeds and thoughts because of the works of the curved spirit. Motohisa Yamakage said it like this, good or moral behavior is associated with balance of ... This is evident through the fact that the Compromise of 1850, Fugitive Slave Law, and other debates occurred even after the Missouri Compromise. The Missouri Compromise was in 1820 then the South seceded forty years later in 1860. IFR represents a significant shift in the thinking approach to solving problems. The idea of formulating the IFR is to clearly define the goal of improvement and to work back from that point, thus eliminating rework by solving the right problem initially. A basic concept of TRIZ is that systems evolve towards increased ideality, where the extreme result of this evolution is the ideal final result. 2. TRIZ: List and describe each of the 9 laws of evolution. (900 1200 words) (40 points) Answer: The following are the laws of evolution: 1. Law of increasing degree of ideality: This is the first law of the evolution of technological systems. Evolution of technological system moves in the direction of an increasing degree of ideality. This means that in the process of evolution, a system, which executes some functions, becomes less complicated, costly, it becomes capable of performing its functions better, or it performs more functions. A mixture of these evolutionary processes also often occurs. For example, early computers need lot of power to operate and give small output only. But evolution of computer is moving towards ideality. 2. Law of non uniform evolution of subsystems: Any technological organization meets some needs, which usually grow swiftly than the refinement of the system. This also makes an evolutionary pressure causing the occurrence of structure conflicts. The rate of evolution of various parts of a system is not uniform; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Beauty Of The Barbie Fashion Doll Humans by nature want what they can t get. It s true, we as a species are materialistic. Many of us want the fastest cars, the biggest houses, the heftiest paychecks, the coolest clothes, and the hottest bodies. We are also incredibly impressionable; one Budweiser commercial, for example, may convince us to go out and buy Budweiser brand beer. An Apple commercial can inadvertently coax thousands of average citizens to drop what they are doing, camp for days outside of the local Best Buy, and wait impatiently to purchase the newest iPhone which includes the newest, most overrated feature to date. Even the toys we manufacture perpetuate this endless cycle of unnecessary wants and desires. According to that archaic proverb, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It s ironic how we hear and repeat this phrase all the time yet we don t practice what we preach. A good example of this can be found with the popularity of the Barbie fashion doll. Something as simple as a piece of plastic with fake hair, exaggerated body features, and miniature outfits can instill in young girls across the world the standard of beauty . With this fragile, impressionable persona that we have engrained in women over time, it seems as if we are driving them to their own demise. Through the use of modern day media, toys, and fashion, we have been betraying women across the globe by mistreatment, underrepresentation, and by sexualizing them. We blatantly sexualize and misrepresent women with the toys we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, explain how it helps organizations to 1) explore a subject, 2) make decisions, and 3) reduce the time taken for the project discussions. There is a place for argument, and argument is a useful tool of thinking. But argument is inadequate as the main tool of thinking. Argument lacks constructive energies, design energies, and creative energies. Pointing out faults may lead to some improvement but does not construct something new. Synthesizing both points of view does not produce a stream of new alternatives. Traditional argument is totally useless for such a design process. Part One: Hinduism The Question of Origin is answered by the Hinduism Worldview as everything has always been in existence and is a part of god (Weider Gutierrez, 2011). A part of the worldview is that the universe and god is one in the same thing. Hinduism believes that itself has always existed, that it did not have a creator. God is viewed as an infinite, impersonal force (Weider Gutierrez, 2011). The Question of Identity is answered by the Hinduism Worldview as everything is spiritual or sacred in life. The Question of Identity is also answered differently in both worldviews. The Christian Worldview believes that mankind is a special creation of God (Weider Gutierrez, 2011) . Hinduism worldview on the other hand believe s that the man s soul has no beginning, that it is an eternal force in a physical body. The Question of meaning or purpose is answered in two opposing views. The Christian Worldview believes that Christianity is about relationship with God and not simply following the tenants of a religion (Weider Gutierrez, 2011). While the Hinduism Worldview sees everything around us is an illusion, and that you have to have good karma to get out of the same lifecycle. The Question of Morality is answered in the Christian s Worldview as Right or wrong are not relative to man s perspective, but are based upon God s holy standard (Weider Gutierrez, 2011) . • 15. Difference Between Democracy And Democracy There are many forms of government all over the world. Governments are very important to how they allow the population to work together. Two of the most popular forms of government are a dictatorship and a democracy. Both these governments have their own properties and are unique in every country they are present in. Democracy is a form of government controlled by the whole population or all the eligible members of the state, usually through elected representatives. A typical representative democracy means it s the elected representative s job to represent their voters. A democracy is seen in some of the most powerful states in the world. Great Britain is one of the original democratic states. They ve been a democratic regime for many years and have been a great role model for the rest of the world. Great Britain has shown that democracy not only brings freedom but peace. Most democratic states are very peaceful. Singapore had fought for its independence from the colonial grip of Great Britain. It is also a very egalitarian and liberalized country. It has been one of the biggest trading posts in the world and has become very wealthy. The (PAP) or People s Action Party was the first universal suffrage movement. It s led the country for many years, provided many social welfare programs and the people are very supportive of it. • 16. Persuasive Essay On Decriminalizing All Drugs We all have an interest in making sure teens grow up healthy and drug free. John Walters Would you like to live in a safer, drug free community? I do and here is how to start: by decriminalizing all drugs! Since Richard Nixon coined the phrase War on Drugs in 1971, America has failed miserably to reduce the consumption and traffic of illicit drugs from outside our borders. Although a heavy portion are against decriminalizing drugs because of short term consequences and health concerns in public communities, Portugal s evident sixteen year experience with drug decriminalization has proven otherwise with significant, long term positive outcomes. However, due to the long lasting and persuasive positive outcomes of decriminalization, it is vital that the U.S. strongly reconsiders the prohibition of all drugs for the health and economic benefit of our communities. Obviously, there will be short term consequences but also benefits too. Unfortunately, the hype of decriminalizing drugs will cause an increase in the number of users but it is important to note that a considerable amount of those being newly documented are closet junkies finally being revealed. As Dr. Caitlin Hughes, a member of the Drug Policy Modelling Program of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre puts it, Portuguese decriminalization did not lead to major increases in drug use. Indeed, evidence indicates reductions in problematic use, drug related harms and criminal justice overcrowding (Hughes; Stevens). As this research shows, the predictions on Portugal s well being after the decriminalization of all drugs were incorrect and the complete opposite occurred creating healthy and safer communities because of awareness. Bringing our attention back to the increasing number of users within the hype years, public safety is a large concern where communities will have a difficult time adapting to the new policy and becoming accustomed to a new culture and lifestyle. On the contrary, I find a few years of craziness to be minimal in comparison to the long term achievement that this law intends to achieve. Portugal has proved that decriminalization reduces drug use, drug related harms, and criminal justice overcrowding. João Goulão, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Queen Gertrude in Shakespeare s Hamlet a Victim not Murderer Gertrude never seems to get in the middle of Hamlet and Claudius disputes, so many tend to assume that she is involved in King Hamlet s murder. However, there is an abundance of in text evidence that suggests she is very innocent and oblivious to Claudius plots throughout the play. Most of this evidence supporting that Gertrude has nothing to do with King Hamlet s sudden death. From the start, Gertrude comes off as a very clueless and almost blind character to the things happening around her. She mourns for the death of the man she loved, but with her country in mind does what she thinks is best. Sadly, while doing so, she involves herself in a dispute that turns deadly. Instead of asking ridiculous questions and going haywire, like her new husband, Gertrude simply comments on the acting by saying, ? The lady protests too much, methinks? (Shakespeare 3.2.168). She even becomes baffled by Claudius? strange behavior when he screams, ?Give me some light, away!? (Shakespeare 3.2.172). Gertrude clearly did now know the plot line of the play before having seen it, therefore she could not have been involved in the making of it earlier in the play. When problems with Ophilia and Hamlet arise, Claudius simply sees this as another opportunity to quiet Hamlet. He encourages the relationship, hoping if Hamlet is seeing Polonius? daughter, he wont speak out about his suspicions of Claudius. Although, when Gertrude gets word of these news, she sees this as a completely different opportunity. She, unlike her new husband, encourages the relationship in hopes that it will cheer up her son and he will return to normal. She says to Ophilia, ?And for your part, Ophelia, I do wish that your good beauties be the happy cause of Hamlet s wildness. So shall I hope your virtues will bring him to his wonted way again, to both your honors? (Shakespeare 3.1.136). Gertrude only thinks of her sons well being. In which case, if she had been involved in King Hamlets murder, she would probably be more worried about not being caught instead of how to make Hamlet happy again. Through such incorporation of a legal defense, the institution of a new societal grouping known commonly as the criminally insane became expounded, as well as, the legal opportunity allowing for self declaration of being innocent by reason of mental illness or defect (or, the insanity defense). Those criminally insane are a subset of the prison population who have been deemed to have committed their crimes under the influence of a mental disease/disorder, or who were not in a condition of intellect during the time of the crime to comprehend the illegality or immorality of their offense (Frontline). • 26. Differences Between Troy And The Iliad As the last scene of movie Troy fades, we see the words inspired by Homer s The Iliad . There is no doubt that the Iliad is one of the greatest poems of all time and, therefore, it has inspired multiple works of art over almost three thousand years of its existence. One of these works is the film Troy, which attempts to make an adaptation that reflects the Greek culture and appeals to the modern audience at the same time. In this essay Troy will be compared with the Iliad through examination of time spans, intended audiences, portrayals of Helen, Achilles and Hector, main themes of both sources and conveyed messages. One significant difference between the Iliad and Troy is the timespan. The Iliad is not a story of a Trojan war, but a story of a hero s wrath. The time span it covers is only a few weeks in the tenth year of the siege of Troy. Homer chooses to focus on events that occurred during a quarrel of King Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and brother of Menelaus, and Achilles, the most powerful warrior of the Achaean army. Homer doesn t go into detail about other events and battles, as the story of the Trojan War was well known to the Greek society because it has been told and retold by bards for numerous times and the general plot was still fresh in the minds of the Greeks. For his poem to stand out, Homer had to be original, so he didn t tell his audience about the war as a whole, but rather spotlighted the wrath of an individual hero, Achilles. Troy, ... From an alternate perspective the Apology is more or less a dissection of the journey motif in a narrative as it explains the process of how Socrates arrived at his ill fate of death and condemnation by his peers, mirrored by other forms of storytelling like Shakespeare s literary works. A point to be taken of the quest motif applied to the apology is the actions taken by asking the questions he needed to deduce that politicians were liars to the people, poets didn t understand their own meanings and works and that craftsmen were pretentious speaking as if he were the voice of the oracle of Delphi. His actions thus earning him the ire of the people he claimed to such, the most prominent of which in their stand against Socrates were Meletus, Anytus and Lycon, this represents the establishment of an antagonistic force to be combated by Socrates in his defense, an important part of the motif that purveys the story to continue on. You can sense the anger in the mother as you read My mothers countenance/could not unfrown itself. This shows that despite the mothers feelings of anger towards the dance, the son was enjoying it, so they went on (Malkoff 344). The last two lines of the poem further illustrate the boys love for the dance with his father; Then waltzed me off to bed/still clinging to your shirt. Kareem learned the Sky Hook in college because at the time, the NCAA banned dunking because there were too many taller dominate players at that time and they tried to reduce the dominance. This didn t phase Kareem however and he just developed a new move that only made him more dominate. To me, The Sky Hook represents years of hardwork and dedication paying off in the end. Great Teammates. When Kareem was with the Milwaukee Bucks, he got the chance to play with Oscar Robertson who was another hall of famer that greatly assisted him. • 37. The Success Of Becoming A Millionaire What is success exactly? There are so many different variations of how you can achieve success. Success does not just come in a neat package all wrapped up with a bow on top, sometimes success requires a struggle. Success can be something small or it can be something big. For example you could consider getting an A on a test a success or becoming a millionaire a success, there are different levels of success. One aspect of success that that has not been taken into consideration, which is in order for you to be successful you must be happy, at least that is what I believe. Going back to the example of becoming a millionaire, sure you may be happy about having money at first but soon having all the money in the world will not make a difference to you. You will go day after day wishing for something more and it probably will be something that money cannot buy. However if you are happy with your job and how you earned the money that is a different story, you have succeeded. According to Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary success is defined as the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. When I talked to Amy Strawn, who is the children s pastors wife at my church, she had a few different definitions of what exactly success was. Her first comment was about success within her faith. Success to me is living my life in a way that is pleasing to God. I want to impact the most people I can for the Kingdom of Heaven. Success is sharing Jesus in a true and genuine way. ... • 38. The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the author L. Frank Baum uses colors to represent emotions and characteristics of the characters and settings in the story. Baum s use of colors not only brought the characters to life, but also allowed the reader to understand their points of view and motivation in every scenario. Even children at young ages can comprehend the deep meaning of colors. Infants learn basic color interpretation such as red objects represent anger while white characters symbolize good. Baum uses colors to a greater extent when he takes his protagonist Dorothy through the magical land of Oz. Colors in this novel play a crucial part in separating Dorothy s home life in Kansas from her adventure through Oz. L. Frank Baum s use of colors in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz symbolize maturity, loyalty and protection within the characters of the novel. To begin this tale, L. Frank Baum opens with Dorothy in her hometown Kansas. Dorothy s time in Kansas is surrounded by the color gray. The unemotional color gray symbolizes subdued, boring and drab (empower yourself with color psychology). In the novel, Dorothy is an excited child who wants to play and express her creativity. A setting such as Kansas is not the place for her. In Kansas, everything is subdued because most of the population is older and more mature than Dorothy is. This brings a feeling of boredom to Dorothy because relative to her, the rest of the town is very drab or lacking in spirit. Baum brilliantly set an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Secession Dbq 1) The secession was a pivotal moment in American history. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, it caused alarm in several Southern states since he did not receive a single electoral vote from them. Since he was the first from the political Republican Party to become president, nobody quite knew what to expect and the South feared that he would disregard and corrode their values. Lincoln desired to place the slaveholding states under the non slaveholding states to prevent slavery from spreading, which was the last straw that pushed South Carolina to secede on December 20, 1860. Even before Lincoln s inauguration on March 4, 1861, seven states seceded. The example of Shona which tribe has only three category of colors does not mean that Shona s eye is psychologically different; and can t see rainbow as English speakers do. • 42. A Brief Look at Karl Marx A person does not have to positively impact the world to be influential. Karl Marx certainly left a mark on the world, but whether his impact was revolutionary or simply detrimental is up to debate. Marx was largely influenced by the ideas of Enlightenment figures like Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and Hegel. Most know him in regard to his writing the Communist Manifesto and its influence on revolutions that led to the formation of notoriously oppressive communist states. His ideas form the base of modern international communism, and for that Michael Hart gives Karl Marx a ranking of twenty seven in his book The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History. This ranking seems accurate given the factors that influenced him, his accomplishments, and their effects on the world. Karl Marx drew from the philosophies of the great thinkers of his time to perfect his ideal communist system. He was born into a time when ideas of the Enlightenment were widespread. He read the works of Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and the Comte de Saint Simon (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). However, he was especially influenced by G.W.F. Hegel, the most prominent philosopher in Germany in the early 1800s (Microsoft Encarta). Hegel believed that ideas evolve through a continual process of contradiction and resolution and that human history is driven by this evolution. Consequently, Marx developed the belief that history evolves through a series of conflicts in a predictable, unavoidable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A common response to immoral behavior is punishments, which leads me to ask the question: how is punishment justified? In his article The Classic Debate , American legal philosopher Joel Feinberg lays out the main points of discourse between the two major theories of justified punishment, which I will deconstruct. Feinberg asserts that there are two main theories used to justify punishment: Retributivism and Utilitarianism. These two theories supposedly oppose each other such that they are mutually exclusive and jointly exhaustive (Feinberg). The latter of these theories, Utilitarianism, is the main concern of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second thesis of pure moralistic retributivism, that moral guilt is a sufficient condition for punishment, is far more contentious (Feinber 647). One of the common counterarguments to this point which Feinberg notes is similar to the old addage two wrongs don t make a right . If punishment is justified irrespective of future consequences, and it is assumed that the chosen punishment (i.e. prison time, fine) isn t itself a good, than how can this negative action be justified if it doesn t necessarily bring about some goodness? Retributivists often respond by using the example of sadness as a response to suffering. Neither sadness nor suffering are inherently good, but sadness in response to someone else s suffering is uniquely appropriate (Feinberg 647). In the same way that sadness is the appropriate response to suffering or teachers grade is the appropriate response to a students performance on a test, punishment is the appropriate response to moral guilt on the basis of justice. The concept of justice , the assignment of action on the basis of desert alone, will become imporant later. Another critique raised by Feinberg relates to the third thesis of pure moralistic retributivism: that punishment must be proportionate to the moral gravity of the offense. This thesis implies a number consequences which are problematic. Firstly, if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dorothea Lange And The Migrant Woman During the first half of the 20th century, Photographs, songs, and cartoons tried to interpret the problems of the time through different kinds of imagery and tone with varying amounts of success, from praise and awe to disgust and rejection. In the early 20th century, Americans were suffering from the Great Depression and its high unemployment rates, droughts and terrible living conditions, so when they first saw the series of photographs by Dorothea Lange, including the Migrant Mother, they were in awe of how it captured their situation, as well as their beliefs, perfectly. Not only did they represent the people as dignified human beings whose plight would elicit sympathy, not ridicule, Lange s photos captured the idea that Poverty was a distressing matter..., not an embarrassing one, simply by photographing people on the streets they were living on, filming them in their element. People were in pain and just by taking photos of this problem, with some modifications and positioning, Lange s art became a tireless and universal symbol of suffering in the face of adversity with its portrayal of regular people in dire situations. What also made the photos as popular as it was, and still is, is how they reference fundamental and historic religious symbolism, especially the Migrant Mother whose imagery of a woman tirelessly caring for her children alludes to the similar historical representations of Madonna and her child, Jesus Christ. For instance, concluding the exact meanings of terms without extensive research or knowledge of them isn t always the correct conclusion. Throughout this paper, two seemingly separate entities, nature and culture, will be defined both separately and together. Examples will be given that define both nature and culture, and demonstrate how they are both different and related. Nature and culture are not as opposing as one might think, and through analysis of both terms, a new understanding can be reached. Nature, as stated in the slides of January 23rd, is a biophysical entity, meaning that it comprises biotic and abiotic natural substances within the environment. Nature is something which is often thought of as an objective element which is separate from our society. Culture, in opposition, also stated in the slides of January 23rd, is something that is a human made creation. It is a subjective, social entity. In the slides of January 16th, culture is also defined as a learned way of thinking, feeling, and believing. It is something that has been handed down by older generations and is continually remade. • 50. How Sugar Affects The Melting Rate Of Ice Research The Effect of Sugar On The Melting Rate Of Ice. Abstract: The melting rate of each type of ice cube was different, depending on whether they had sugar in them or not. One type of ice cube contained sugar, where the other one didn t, and as a result, the lowering of the freezing point of the water seemed to be affected by the sugar. Introduction: I conducted this experiment to see whether sugar would cause the ice cube to melt faster. There were two different types of ice cubes; just pure water, and water that contained sugar. Liquid water contains molecules that are disordered and jumbled, but when it is frozen, the molecules become ordered and regular. The sugar molecules don t fit into this, so when you freeze the water, the water freezes first and the sugar stays behind in the liquid part as the ice develops. Sugar makes the ice harder to form, therefore lowering the freezing point. By lowering the freezing point, it keeps the ice from re freezing as easily, helping to melt the rest of the ice. ...
