Essay on Life Course of a Mas Murderer
The Life Course of a Mass Murderer
Cornelius Davis
DeVry University
The Life Course of a Mass Murderer
On April 16, 2007 one of the most devastating mass murders in U.S history occurred at a Virginia
college. Seung Hui Cho a 23 year old South Korean alone executed the killing of 33 people by
securing colleges doors to prevent escape of any students. Events such as these are truly tragic and
devastating to all involved. By gathering background information about Seung Hui Cho, we can
effectively examine social development theories as they relate to Cho and review my analysis that this
particular occurrence was preventable. Born in South Korea, Seung Hui Cho immigrated to America
when he was 8 years old. Although Cho was a quiet well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cho had a hard childhood and was in the shadows of his very successful sister. Even in college Cho
had no friends and began to look up to other school shooters as martyrs. Although these individuals
were not his friends at all in his situation they were the closest thing to having friends. In college Cho
was accused of stalking women on two different occasions, was caught taking photos of the legs of
female students in class and was separated out of classes. I believe that Cho s antisocial lifestyle along
with the transition any from home eventually lead him to commit the mass murder. Cho s anti social
lifestyle seemed to escalate to criminal behaviors from the time he went off to college until the time of
the Virginia Tech shooting. I believe that this tragedy could have been prevented if the proper
preventative measures and treatment techniques were taken. As a boy Cho should have been taken in
for a mental evaluation but I believe the integration of his family into the American society prevented
that. In high school Cho being bullied and teased could have been put to a stop by teachers and
surrounding students. Also when Cho started writing gruesome poems short stories and plays he
should have been recommended to a counselor. Any counselor that Cho had encounters with could
have been a lot more persistent in getting to the bottom of Cho s situations. A teacher college teacher
doesn t just separate a student from her class. Finally

INTERGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATION (IMC)
According to Wikipedia, integrated marketing communications (IMC) is defined as a process for
managing customer relationships that drive brand value primarily through communication efforts.
Such efforts often include cross functional processes that create and nourish profitable relationships
with customers and other stakeholders by strategically controlling or influencing all messages sent to
these groups and encouraging data driven, purposeful dialog with them. IMC includes the
coordination and integration of all marketing communication tools, avenues, and sources within a
company into a seamless program in order to maximize the impact on end users at a minimal cost.

Religious Influence In The Aztec s Judicial System
The Aztec Empire upheld a very sophisticated, potent, and harsh legal system. The judicial system
they had resembles a modern one today: it was made up of multiple courts with differing levels of
jurisdiction, such as trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. Moreover, citizens could
appeal rulings to a higher court if they did not agree with the ruling they were given from the judge.
Although the Aztecs were very religious, they preferred to be swift and empirical when it came to the
law, choosing to judge a criminal without their religious beliefs interfering. This, however, did not
apply to the sentences and punishments given to the criminals. Some sentences were given without
their religion interfering, such as slavery and mutilation. In other cases, punishments, such as human
sacrifice, were for a religious purpose. These harsh sentences and punishments helped the Aztec
Empire effectively instill fear into the people, which helped maintain control.
The court system was comprised of various courts with different levels of jurisdiction. These courts
were the trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. The trial courts were known as Teccalli
courts, and heard civil and criminal cases involving commoners; civil judgments by this court were
considered final, but criminal sentences could be appealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Indian Education Sherman Alexie Analysis
Education an institution for success, opportunity, and progress is itself steeped in racism. In Sherman
Alexie s short story Indian Education from his book The Longer Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven
is set in two places, the Spokane Indian Reservation and a farm town nearby the reservation. The story
is written in a list of formative events chronologize Victor s youth by depicting the most potent
moment from each year he is in school. Alexie addresses the issue of racism in education by
examining examples of injustice and discrimination over twelve years in a boy s life. Victor faces his
initial injustice in first grade when he is bullied by bigger kids, but his understanding of injustice
becomes much more complex in grades two through twelve as he experiences discrimination against
his American Indian identity. Familial experiences of a Native woman, Alexie s style and humor, and
Victor s awareness of discrimination from grade one to twelve all reveal the grim reality of growing
up and being schooled on an American Indian reservation.
One of Victor s first experiences of racial injustice occurs in second grade when his white missionary
teacher discriminates him against his outstanding academic skills and his Indian heritage. Victor has
pulled aside and is assigned a junior high level spelling test; he recalls When I spelled all the words
right, she crumpled up the paper and made me eat it. You ll learn respect, she said (Alexie 173). Here
Victor faces two types of discrimination: the injustice of being singled out from his classmates in
order to take a more difficult test, and the injustice of being penalized for performing well on the test.
Instead of being praised or awarded for his outstanding ability, Victor is punished severely for his high
level skills by having to eat his test. Later on, the teachers send a note to his parents telling them to
either cut [Victor s] braids or keep [him] home from class. This injustice towards Victor s culture over
a hairstyle has no impact on a child s education or accomplishments. Alexie incorporated this injustice
to show the readers that such discrimination occurs and his stories are not fiction. In fact, native
women, P. Jane Hafen responds to

Social Class Structures
Primarily, the social class structures in the United States attaches descriptions of and distinctions
between individuals based on the roles and status people hold at any given moment and subsequently
judge accordingly. However, descriptions of statuses and roles in society are relatively provisional
since the structure of any society is to adapt and evolve continuously. A profession (achieved status)
that was once highly respected can now be regarded with contempt; an individual s gender (ascribed
status) once dictated how one should behave by societal standards (prescribed role), now is
disregarded and reformed. Therefore, even though in America, there are no formal, enforced social
class structures in place, social stratification, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unsurprisingly, it has proven to be complicated to live in a devoutly religious and predominately
Caucasian community as a person who is not only struggling with their faith but also as a person of
color; it can become a very isolating situation quite quickly. Additionally, it is unambiguous that the
members of my community engage in in groups and out groups to class groups especially groups of
religion. As stated by Basirico, Cashion, and Eshleman (2014), in groups form social units in which
establishes boundaries meant to separate those who belong from those who don t; thereby making
individuals part of the out group feel inferior. Consequently, an in group s mentality often attaches
preconceived notions about out groups to which may generate misconceptions, prejudices, and
egregious stereotypes (Basirico, Cashion, Eshleman, 2014). These kinds of assumptions affect human
beings and can either support or hinder one s self concept and sense of social belongingness. For
example, in my community, there are religious stratifications that provoke not only variously
gratuitous conflict but also religious segregation and exclusion. Moreover, religious debates often
become political, and it goes without saying that I am now a firm believer in

Types Of Conventional Pid Controller
Conventional PID controller is one of the most widely used controllers in industry, it have remained,
by far; the most commonly used in practically all industrial feedback control applications. The main
reason is its relatively simple structure, which can be easily understood and implemented in practice.
On the other hand the recent advancement in fractional calculus has introduced applications of
fractional order calculus in control theory. One of the prime applications of fractional calculus is
fractional order PID controller and it has received a considerable attention in academic studies and in
industrial applications. Fractional order PID controller is an advancement of classical integer order
PID controller. In many cases fractional order PID controller has outperformed classical integer order
PID controller. In the field of automatic control, the fractional order controllers would lead to more
precise and robust control performances. Although it is reasonably true that the fractional order
models require the FOPID controllers to achieve the best performance, in most cases the researchers
consider the fractional order controllers applied to regular linear or non linear dynamics to enhance the
system control performances.
In this chapter, the design of fractional order PID controller is considered in order to minimize certain
performance indices such as integral square error. An artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm is used to
tune the parameters of FOPID controller,

The Origins And End Of Giftedness Summary
Ellen Winner also authored a very relevant article in 2000, titled The origins and ends of giftedness.
This article is essentially a supplemental piece to her book, cited above. This article was written four
years after it, and her perspective on the origin of giftedness in children has begun to lean a bit more
toward the growing psychological opinion that giftedness most often arrives from goal directed hard
work, otherwise referred to as deliberate practices. Winner also continues with a cautionary focus on
parents who are over eager and often overbearing when pushing their young children to learn, and in
turn negatively affect them emotionally and behaviorally. In the article she notes, though, that parents

shows in a positive way in our performance. In Netball good footwork is essential, and quick reaction,
as the maximum time you are allowed possession of the ball is three seconds. We need to know our
ability and how far we can go. A skilful player will have confidence, which can help to avoid injury.
Apart from shooting, the primary skills of netball are throwing and catching. There are 3 different
passes that are most commonly made in netball, The Chest pass, The shoulder pass and The bounce
pass, these are all used constantly in a game off netball. A player may step with the other foot in any
direction any number if times, pivoting on the landing foot. The pivoting foot may be lifted, but the
player must throw or should before regrounding their foot. If this rule is broken the player must then
be penalised, the ball is given to the opponent for a free pass , because a foot fault has taken place.

Trainers should be worn, if the sole is wider than the ankle it will give your ankles more support and
balance. They must be made of lightweight material. Spiked soles are not allowed in netball.

The human resources department is responsible for validating each assessment tool and ensuring that
it is legitimately related to the requirements of the open position. Examples of different stages in a
multistage selection strategy are personality tests, skills tests, interviews and sample work
performances. This strategy is paired with either a conjunctive or compensatory strategy. Conjunctive
Selection Strategy When the human resources department uses a conjunctive model, it administers
multiple assessment tools in a series of stages. If a person does poorly on an initial assessment, he is
eliminated from the pool of applicants. When using this strategy, assessment tools must be carefully
ordered so that a candidate is not eliminated based on a less important criteria than one that is assessed
later in the process. The advantage to this strategy, however, is that it is less costly than a
compensatory strategy because later assessment tools are administered to fewer people. Compensatory

the play appeared, the Clarence Thomas Hill controversy had occurred, helping push these issues in

Laughter and music are very important in many people s lives. Whether it is a funny joke, seeing
something that s amusing, or starting the day listening to a favorite song, Laughter and music can

There are many health benefits that come with laughter. First of all, laughter and exercise share many
similar characteristics. When you have a good laugh you get a feeling in your stomach just like when
you ve had a really good workout. Both can boost your health, and ultimately make you stronger.
Sometimes people are faced with tough situations that we have no control over. In those times you can
either get worked up about them, or you can lighten up the situation and have a good laugh, laughing
will help you cope in those unexpected times and help you get through it. It can make anyone feel
better from a difficult situation and that is a great benefit. With that said, laughing can decrease stress.
When we are faced with anxiety, stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine start to get high. Lots
of laughter will decrease those stress hormones and make you feel better. According to

causing your blood to circulate, and increases oxygen. This is what helps fight against heart disease.

Altruism is a staple part of the Theory of Mind. It involves being capable of putting yourself in
another individual s shoes, sympathizing or acknowledging how they ended up where they are.
Perowne tends to have a basic understanding and acceptance of altruism. He feels for the street

this does not lead Perowne to act to help the street sweeper, he instead acknowledges their differences

How Does The Use Of Culture Affect Emily Bronte s Character
As the novel Wuthering Heights progresses, Emily Bronte develops much of the story through the
characters. Bronte s use of culture, geographical, and physical surroundings, manipulate the characters
psychological and moral standings. Especially apparent in Catherine, Emily Bronte s use of culture
and physical surroundings creates a psychological split within Catherine s character. From the
beginning of the novel, Bronte establishes a cultural paradox that directly reflects Catherine s
personality; the ambiance of Wuthering Heights as opposed to Thrushcross Grange. Wuthering
Heights being wild and passionate in nature, yet Thrushcross Grange eloquent and publicly
sophisticated. Through the novel we see Catherine s character constantly at battle with these wild and
eloquent sides. Bronte emphasizes this when she acts violently towards Edgar after she has argued

The investigator Joe Raedle reported that, In December 2006, four year old Rebecca Riley was found
dead in her parents home, a victim of a prescription drug overdose. An autopsy revealed four different
drugs in her system: an antihistamine (used to treat allergies), a cough suppressant, an anti seizure
drug and a blood pressure medication. The last two drugs had been prescribed not because Rebecca
suffered from seizures or high blood pressure. Rather, Rebecca s psychiatrist had prescribed the drugs
to alleviate her attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and bipolar disorder, respectively
(Raedle, Joe). A large number of new stimulant and nonstimulants users were children and teenagers,
where doctors felt comfortable prescribing such unpredictable drugs. The average doctor prescribe

How Did Henry Vii Affect The Future
The events had a great effect on the future. When the Yorkists were defeated at the battle of Bosworth
Field, Henry VII became king. It had been hard for Henry to win the throne. He had been in exile, and
had had to do constant campaigning to get as far as he did. However, there were still threats to his
title. There were various pretenders, as well as Perkin Warbeck, who claimed to be Edward V s
younger brother, Richard Duke of York. After several attacks, to try win back the throne, Henry VII
finally had him imprisoned and executed. Though problems left over from the Wars of the Roses were
not over yet. Henry VII married Elizabeth of York, the oldest daughter of the Yorkist King Edward IV,

The Battle Of Dien Bien Phu
Vietnam Timeline 04/24/2016
Sarah Dustagheer
Period 4
Battle of Dien Bien Phu (1954)
The Battle of Bien Dien Phu was the first crucial engagement in the first Indochina War. It took place
in March 13, 1954 May 7, 1954. This battle was a symbolic turning point in Indochina. The Battle of
Dien Bien Phu was fought between French forces and the Viet Minh communists. The French wanted
to convert Vietnam as one of their colonies, but on the other hand, Vietnam wanted their
independence. After the French forces took over the Dien Bien Phu valley in late 1953, Viet Minh
commander, Vo Nguyen, deported and placed heavy artillery. The Viet Minh soldiers set up the
artillery in caves of mountains overlooking the French camp, to break the French lines. When the
French were defeated, there was a formal negotiation.
Geneva Accords
(1954)
The Geneva Conference of 1954 was a meeting between many countries that agreed to end hostilities
and restore peace in French Indochina and Korea. It was signed by France and North Vietnam. This
produced a set of treaties called Geneva Accords. The Geneva Accords organized a settlement which
brought an end to the first Indochina War. This agreement was reached at the end of the Geneva
Conference. These agreements temporarily separated Vietnam into two zones, a northern zone to be
governed by the Viet Minh, and a southern zone to be governed by the state of Vietnam. A

Characteristics Of Princess Diana
Abstract
Princess Diana was known as the people s princess; but Diana was much more than that. Diana was an
activist, humanitarian, public servant and a leader. Princess Diana s entire adult life was focused on
helping those less fortunate, those suffering from debilitating diseases and offering aide to people
from third world countries. Diana didn t just contribute time but focused on attracting the attention of
the media which brought spectators and in return brought followers. These followers were willing to
contribute time and resources to hundreds of causes Princess Diana found important. Diana had great
charisma that she spread to all the people she met. In the developing countries she was able to
empower others by improving their self esteem (Gram 2013). Princess Diana led a life of giving and
through many years of personal grief and loss followed by a tragic death the world has suffered a great
loss as well. Fortunately, Diana was such an impactful leader that to this day there are memorial funds
set up in Princess Diana s name to assist with many of the charities that the Princess adored. Because
of the hours and back breaking work the Princess put in to these charities, they still reap benefits from
the followers of the people s leader, Princess Diana.
Princess Diana; a Leader A leader can possess many unique qualities. Merriam Webster defines a
leader as someone who guides others. A quick google search provides a definition of a person who

instructing, verbalizing or motioning Diana was able to influence the way the world felt about many
different causes. Princess Diana was able to change the world s views and perceptions about
contagious diseases, third world countries and many different world crises. Diana was passionate
about all of the charities and work performed and was never fearful to be the first to volunteer. Diana

`` Peace, And Its Nobleness And Holiness And Honor
June Jordan, a Caribbean American poet and activist, once explained that poetry in and of itself is a
political act, because it involves telling the truth. During World War I, statesmen and politicians
propagated the war efforts, asking the men and boys to join the cause and potentially sacrifice their
lives for their country. Back in England, war was looked at in the most idealistic light. War was glory.
War was honor. War was noble. War was good, and it was right for man to fight. Early in the war,
some poets portrayed that rather romanticized version of war. Rupert Brooke spoke about the war s
cleansing abilities in his poem Peace and its nobleness and holiness and honor in The Dead. But many
poets chose to send another message to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The General s introductory cry of Good morning; good morning! upon meeting his troops illustrates
an amiable and positive view of war (1). Moving along the warfront, one soldier, Harry, remarks to
fellow soldier, Jack, that their general is a cheery old card (5). The camaraderie, however, is short
lived, and these two boys exhibit the human cost of war and of the general s lack of regard for them,
for he did for them both by his plan of attack (7). A week later, the soldiers [the general] smiled at are
most of em dead (3). The succinctness and simplicity of the poem echoes the ease with which men
died in war. So too, Wilfred Owen, renowned war poet and contemporary and mentee of Siegfried
Sassoon, replicates his mentor s view on the prolific lose of life in war, asking in his poem, Anthem of
Doomed Youth, What passing bells for these who die as cattle? (1).
To dispel the propagated glory and honor associated with death in war, in Exposure, Wilfred Owen
explores death by the elements, a common and less glorious way men died in battle. Owen famously
stated, My subject is War, and the pity of War. One such pity that he depicts in his poetry is the dismal
death of soldiers by the cold and frost rather than the expected magnificent death of soldiers in man to
man combat. In Exposure, Owen utilizes the voice of soldiers dying from the cold. Our brains ache, in
the merciless iced east winds that knive us, the soldiers

Parent Child Relationships in Before You Were Mine, Kid, On My First Sonne, and The Song Of The
Old Mother
All of the poems are about emotions and parent child relationships. In
Before You Were Mine, the girl idolises and loves her mother. Whereas the man in Kid feels angry
towards his father, and resents him too. In the poem On My First Sonne, the father loves his son a lot
and feels grief for his dead son. Which is different from The Song Of The Old
Mother as in this the mother is angry and annoyed at her children. I shall look for similarities and
differences in the parent child relationships that are in all four of the poems.
The use of structure in Kid shows the past and present in a chronological way, it s like a ... Show more

For instance, ...the fire flicker and glow this shows the start of her day. Then the middle shows she
works hard ...I must scrub and bake and sweep. Finally, the end of her day ...fire gets feeble and cold.
This is effective because it shows that she is a hard working mother.
This is also similar to On My First Sonne as it is also one long verse. Lines one to four show the
meaning to loss of his son Farwell, thou child of my right hand, and joy. Then the middle lines show
the father asking questions full of grief For why will man lament the state he should envie? Finally, he
accepts his loss ...all his vows be such. The themes in Before You Were Mine are about growing up
and looking back with memories and thinking of all the positive things which happened. For example,
Cha cha cha! You d teach me the steps... This gives the impression that there was a strong bonding
between the mother and child because there was a lot of parent love. This is similar to On My First
Sonne because the parent child relationship is full of love. For instance it says, Farewell, thou child of
my right hand, and joy. This shows that there is a lot of love and care from the parent towards his son.
His son was his pride. I think that these two poems have a strong parent child relationship, because
both of the parents show a lot of love and affection towards there children. This makes me as a reader

delicious use for the gas that has become very common in today s society. It s most common use are in

having little alcohol content so while this is true for drinks like Coke and Pepsi, it can also be applied
to many other drinks and not exclusively drinks like Coke and Pepsi, which in society we refer to as

The film the descent uses a range of shots, sound, editing and symbolisation to create an ominous
atmosphere; in effect this makes the horror aspect in the film really stand out as it leaves the viewer
deciding what happens in specific parts of the film, which all ties in with the films ending.
This all makes the film very subjective and leaves much of the opening scenes open to interpretation
which is very enticing for a horror movie.
The films opening sequence contains many things which symbolise the events in the movie and starts
to define what genre the movie is, because the music is fairly ambient and deep suggesting danger
which implies it s a horror or a thriller movie. When the opening credits appear light effects illuminate

Throughout the whole boating scene there are many different shots, edits, sounds and effects which
make the whole scene upbeat and adventurous. A shot type which does this is the aerial (bird s eye)

The Superpowers And Causes Of The Cold War
Introduction
The Cold War was an era where two superpowers fought for dominance. For many years, the US and
USSR have been the leading powers in the whole world. However, the United States was trying to
gain followers of their democratic ideal, whereas the USSR promoted communism. Through some
attempts of reaching a common ground, both superpowers caused a split between the East and the
West until 1991. The main reasons lie in the events of years 1945 1947.
Yalta Conference
First of all, the Cold War s origins go back to the events of 1945 when two important conferences have
occurred: Yalta and Potsdam. A mutual lack of trust has been present between countries US and USSR
for years. However, these two countries (along with Britain) came together ... Show more content on

Greece was a poor country at that time; destroyed, full of tubercular, and with zero animals, livestock

Communists threatened it. The army was tiny and unequipped, thus was unable to protect its country
from foreigners who foisted their totalitarian regime on them. Truman believed that only the US could
help Greece in their long term recovery. He said, The United States must supply this assistance...there
is no other country to which democratic Greece can turn. ( Truman, Harry S. ) Then he said, If Greece
should fall under the control of an armed minority, the effect upon its neighbor, Turkey, would be
immediate and serious. Confusion and disorder might well spread throughout the entire Middle East. (

Turkey would as well, and it would spread across the Middle East. By the end of WWII, Soviets
pressured Turkey into allowing Russian shipping to go through the Turkish Straits. Turkish
government turned down their request, and Soviets exerted naval force. The US took Turkey under
their wing and supplied the country with any possible aid including military and economic. This might

The Effects of Slavery on African Americans
Slavery, due to its overall violent nature, had lasting effects on African American s. Enslaved African
Americans faced tremendous turmoil internally and within society with all that they had to deal with.
The most apparent and disastrous affects of slavery during the 18th century was the overall dissolution
of society in regards to human rights, families, and the inability for slaves to voice an opinion of their
own. Slavery brought forth major suffering. African American s who were enslaved experienced many
troubling and painful feelings and emotions. With slavery, came problems; physical, emotional, and
traumatizing experiences. Slavery was corrupt and dehumanizing. Some of the leading factors that
resulted in why slavery was so awful was the tension and conflict it caused in society, families were
split up and sold off separately, and lastly, it led to extremely inappropriate and wrongful forced sexual
relationships between slave masters and their slaves, specifically young girls and women. Many of the
material we covered over the course of this semester in our class, explained and went into further
detail regarding the corruptness and brutalities that came with slavery. 12 Years A Slave, American
Slavery, and Soul By Soul, all included valuable and honest descriptions, analysis s, and explanations
of slavery and the many effects it provoked.

Industrial America from the American Steel Industry to the Early 1970 s
The steel industry has been profoundly important to the development of USA by its value of output,
input to the American manufacturing industries and in terms of the extent of its employment in the
past. It s been important because of its political clout of its corporations and finally it s been important
for strategic reasons.
Background to the American Steel Industry
The industry dates from mid 19th century when it grew out of the iron industry. There was huge
demand for steel following the end of the Civil War and the building of the great trans continental
railway. The industry centred in Pittsburgh where the classic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Appalachian deposits of iron ore become very much depleted and development of ore deposits to the
West of Lake Superior was accelerated. The Mesabi Range ores has been worked by Rockefeller since
1892. Open cast production kept costs low, as did the great and advances in ore carriers which
transported the ores east wards through the Great Lakes. Technological advance allowed lower grade
taconite ores to be beneficiated and so enabled them to bear the transport costs to the steel mills
further east.
Demand for Steel: This continued to rise in aggregate throughout much of the first half of the 20th
century. The nature of the demand altered however. Much less steel was now needed for rails, but
structural steel became increasingly important as did rods, wire, tubes and pipes; steel was needed for
tinplate and also very significant amounts were demanded by the transport industries.
Organisation of the industry: At the turn of the century, there was much horizontal integration and
merger activity reflecting, amongst other things, a desire to reduce competition and to increase the
scale of enterprises. Some companies became involved in vertical integration, being particularly
anxious to secure their supplies of coking coal and iron ore (the US relied very heavily on indigenous

Use Of Chemical Weapons In Chemical Warfare
The first actual use of a chemical weapon was in August 1914. The French utilized tear gas grenades
during an attack against the Germans. One of the more known use of a chemical weapon was at the
Second Battle of Ypres in April 1915. 160 tonnes of chlorine gas was released onto the French and
Algerian troops. This could be considered the starting point in chemical warfare as it was the first
large scale deployment of a chemical gas meant for harm. As more and more chemical weapons were
developed, more and more countries followed the trend.
The use of chlorine gas in trench warfare was first developed by Fritz Haber in 1914 as of help to the
German army. At the Second Battle of Ypres, about 6,000 cylinders filled with about 160 tonnes of
chlorine gas were opened and the gas made its way over to the French and Algerian lines. At first, the
French thought it was a smoke screen and that the Germans were advancing towards them, but they
were wrong. It was chlorine gas which would damage their respiratory organs and cause violent
choking attacks. Back on the German lines, barely anybody expected this assault to be so successful
and were not prepared to advance onto the French and Algerian lines while their troops were amidst
panic and fear caused by the chlorine gas. Despite their unpreparedness, the Germans still advanced,
but with a lack of self assurance and confidence. Before this attack, Fritz Haber was not supported
very much, but seeing as how

Examples Of Direct Characterization In Of Mice And Men
One of the most astounding books Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, took place in one of the
darkest time period in American History, the Great Depression. The setting of the book took place in a
small country town in Soledad California, near the Salinas River. This book introduces the two main
characters, George Milton, and Lennie Small with real life struggles of being migrant farm workers
for a ranch. The story opens up with one of the many conflicts that George and Lennie will face
throughout the whole story; George and Lennie running away from Weed after feeling a girls red
dress. Although Lennie commits certain acts of violence in Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck portrays
Lennie Small as having the traits common to the innocent archetype.
John Steinbeck portrays Lennie s characterizations through indirect and direct characterizations.
Indirect characterization is when the author will describe a person about how they are through context
clues but not directly saying it. For example, No whatta want? Let s have different color rabbits
George. (Steinbeck 16). That is indirect characterization for Lennie being childish because John
Steinbeck does not come straight out and say that Lennie is childish, but readers can tell by the context
that he is childish. Direct characterization is when the author comes right out to the readers and says
the characters traits. For instance, Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man... (Steinbeck 2). This
being direct characterization

  • 2. Essay on Life Course of a Mas Murderer The Life Course of a Mass Murderer Cornelius Davis DeVry University The Life Course of a Mass Murderer On April 16, 2007 one of the most devastating mass murders in U.S history occurred at a Virginia college. Seung Hui Cho a 23 year old South Korean alone executed the killing of 33 people by securing colleges doors to prevent escape of any students. Events such as these are truly tragic and devastating to all involved. By gathering background information about Seung Hui Cho, we can effectively examine social development theories as they relate to Cho and review my analysis that this particular occurrence was preventable. Born in South Korea, Seung Hui Cho immigrated to America when he was 8 years old. Although Cho was a quiet well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cho had a hard childhood and was in the shadows of his very successful sister. Even in college Cho had no friends and began to look up to other school shooters as martyrs. Although these individuals were not his friends at all in his situation they were the closest thing to having friends. In college Cho was accused of stalking women on two different occasions, was caught taking photos of the legs of female students in class and was separated out of classes. I believe that Cho s antisocial lifestyle along with the transition any from home eventually lead him to commit the mass murder. Cho s anti social lifestyle seemed to escalate to criminal behaviors from the time he went off to college until the time of the Virginia Tech shooting. I believe that this tragedy could have been prevented if the proper preventative measures and treatment techniques were taken. As a boy Cho should have been taken in for a mental evaluation but I believe the integration of his family into the American society prevented that. In high school Cho being bullied and teased could have been put to a stop by teachers and surrounding students. Also when Cho started writing gruesome poems short stories and plays he should have been recommended to a counselor. Any counselor that Cho had encounters with could have been a lot more persistent in getting to the bottom of Cho s situations. A teacher college teacher doesn t just separate a student from her class. Finally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Religious Influence In The Aztec s Judicial System The Aztec Empire upheld a very sophisticated, potent, and harsh legal system. The judicial system they had resembles a modern one today: it was made up of multiple courts with differing levels of jurisdiction, such as trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. Moreover, citizens could appeal rulings to a higher court if they did not agree with the ruling they were given from the judge. Although the Aztecs were very religious, they preferred to be swift and empirical when it came to the law, choosing to judge a criminal without their religious beliefs interfering. This, however, did not apply to the sentences and punishments given to the criminals. Some sentences were given without their religion interfering, such as slavery and mutilation. In other cases, punishments, such as human sacrifice, were for a religious purpose. These harsh sentences and punishments helped the Aztec Empire effectively instill fear into the people, which helped maintain control. The court system was comprised of various courts with different levels of jurisdiction. These courts were the trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. The trial courts were known as Teccalli courts, and heard civil and criminal cases involving commoners; civil judgments by this court were considered final, but criminal sentences could be appealed ... • 5. Indian Education Sherman Alexie Analysis Education an institution for success, opportunity, and progress is itself steeped in racism. In Sherman Alexie s short story Indian Education from his book The Longer Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is set in two places, the Spokane Indian Reservation and a farm town nearby the reservation. The story is written in a list of formative events chronologize Victor s youth by depicting the most potent moment from each year he is in school. Alexie addresses the issue of racism in education by examining examples of injustice and discrimination over twelve years in a boy s life. Victor faces his initial injustice in first grade when he is bullied by bigger kids, but his understanding of injustice becomes much more complex in grades two through twelve as he experiences discrimination against his American Indian identity. Familial experiences of a Native woman, Alexie s style and humor, and Victor s awareness of discrimination from grade one to twelve all reveal the grim reality of growing up and being schooled on an American Indian reservation. One of Victor s first experiences of racial injustice occurs in second grade when his white missionary teacher discriminates him against his outstanding academic skills and his Indian heritage. Victor has pulled aside and is assigned a junior high level spelling test; he recalls When I spelled all the words right, she crumpled up the paper and made me eat it. You ll learn respect, she said (Alexie 173). Here Victor faces two types of discrimination: the injustice of being singled out from his classmates in order to take a more difficult test, and the injustice of being penalized for performing well on the test. Instead of being praised or awarded for his outstanding ability, Victor is punished severely for his high level skills by having to eat his test. Later on, the teachers send a note to his parents telling them to either cut [Victor s] braids or keep [him] home from class. This injustice towards Victor s culture over a hairstyle has no impact on a child s education or accomplishments. Alexie incorporated this injustice to show the readers that such discrimination occurs and his stories are not fiction. In fact, native women, P. Jane Hafen responds to ... Social Class Structures Primarily, the social class structures in the United States attaches descriptions of and distinctions between individuals based on the roles and status people hold at any given moment and subsequently judge accordingly. However, descriptions of statuses and roles in society are relatively provisional since the structure of any society is to adapt and evolve continuously. A profession (achieved status) that was once highly respected can now be regarded with contempt; an individual s gender (ascribed status) once dictated how one should behave by societal standards (prescribed role), now is disregarded and reformed. As stated by Basirico, Cashion, and Eshleman (2014), in groups form social units in which establishes boundaries meant to separate those who belong from those who don t; thereby making individuals part of the out group feel inferior. Consequently, an in group s mentality often attaches preconceived notions about out groups to which may generate misconceptions, prejudices, and egregious stereotypes (Basirico, Cashion, Eshleman, 2014). Types Of Conventional Pid Controller Conventional PID controller is one of the most widely used controllers in industry, it have remained, by far; the most commonly used in practically all industrial feedback control applications. The main reason is its relatively simple structure, which can be easily understood and implemented in practice. On the other hand the recent advancement in fractional calculus has introduced applications of fractional order calculus in control theory. One of the prime applications of fractional calculus is fractional order PID controller and it has received a considerable attention in academic studies and in industrial applications. Fractional order PID controller is an advancement of classical integer order PID controller. In many cases fractional order PID controller has outperformed classical integer order PID controller. In the field of automatic control, the fractional order controllers would lead to more precise and robust control performances. Although it is reasonably true that the fractional order models require the FOPID controllers to achieve the best performance, in most cases the researchers consider the fractional order controllers applied to regular linear or non linear dynamics to enhance the system control performances. In this chapter, the design of fractional order PID controller is considered in order to minimize certain performance indices such as integral square error. Ben Goffin is a Belgium civil engineering student at Bluefield State College who came to America in 2013 to pursue his degree utilizing the exchange student program. Upon first arriving in America Ben was faced with several different obstacles, such as being faced with different cultural backgrounds, different religious practices, and an all around different approach to life in general. It is now 2016 and Ben is well on his way to success with his degree and is on his path graduate school in pursuing his masters after Bluefield state. Parent Child Relationships in Before You Were Mine, Kid, On My First Sonne, and The Song Of The Old Mother All of the poems are about emotions and parent child relationships. In Before You Were Mine, the girl idolises and loves her mother. Whereas the man in Kid feels angry towards his father, and resents him too. In the poem On My First Sonne, the father loves his son a lot and feels grief for his dead son. Which is different from The Song Of The Old Mother as in this the mother is angry and annoyed at her children. I shall look for similarities and differences in the parent child relationships that are in all four of the poems. The use of structure in Kid shows the past and present in a chronological way, it s like a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, the end of her day ...fire gets feeble and cold. This is effective because it shows that she is a hard working mother. This is also similar to On My First Sonne as it is also one long verse. Lines one to four show the meaning to loss of his son Farwell, thou child of my right hand, and joy. Then the middle lines show the father asking questions full of grief For why will man lament the state he should envie? Finally, he accepts his loss ...all his vows be such. The themes in Before You Were Mine are about growing up and looking back with memories and thinking of all the positive things which happened. For example, Cha cha cha! You d teach me the steps... This gives the impression that there was a strong bonding between the mother and child because there was a lot of parent love. This is similar to On My First Sonne because the parent child relationship is full of love. For instance it says, Farewell, thou child of my right hand, and joy. This shows that there is a lot of love and care from the parent towards his son. His son was his pride. I think that these two poems have a strong parent child relationship, because both of the parents show a lot of love and affection towards there children. This makes me as a reader feel ... The Descent Grade a The film the descent uses a range of shots, sound, editing and symbolisation to create an ominous atmosphere; in effect this makes the horror aspect in the film really stand out as it leaves the viewer deciding what happens in specific parts of the film, which all ties in with the films ending. This all makes the film very subjective and leaves much of the opening scenes open to interpretation which is very enticing for a horror movie. The films opening sequence contains many things which symbolise the events in the movie and starts to define what genre the movie is, because the music is fairly ambient and deep suggesting danger which implies it s a horror or a thriller movie. Throughout the whole boating scene there are many different shots, edits, sounds and effects which make the whole scene upbeat and adventurous. A shot type which does this is the aerial (bird s eye) view which in effect presents the tight squeezes in the waterfalls and the sheer size of the waterfall that they in. Also the edits in this scene are very fast keeping everything upbeat and to show how Sarah, Beth and Juno would be seeing things. For many years, the US and USSR have been the leading powers in the whole world. However, the United States was trying to gain followers of their democratic ideal, whereas the USSR promoted communism. Through some attempts of reaching a common ground, both superpowers caused a split between the East and the West until 1991. The main reasons lie in the events of years 1945 1947. Yalta Conference First of all, the Cold War s origins go back to the events of 1945 when two important conferences have occurred: Yalta and Potsdam. It especially had a low chance of economic recovery, as militant minority led by Communists threatened it. Truman believed that only the US could help Greece in their long term recovery. He said, The United States must supply this assistance...there is no other country to which democratic Greece can turn. ( Truman, Harry S. ) Then he said, If Greece should fall under the control of an armed minority, the effect upon its neighbor, Turkey, would be immediate and serious. Confusion and disorder might well spread throughout the entire Middle East. ( Truman, Harry S. ) What Truman meant, was the Domino Theory . If Greece fell to Communism, Turkey would as well, and it would spread across the Middle East. By the end of WWII, Soviets pressured Turkey into allowing Russian shipping to go through the Turkish Straits. Turkish government turned down their request, and Soviets exerted naval force. The US took Turkey under their wing and supplied the country with any possible aid including military and economic. Enslaved African Americans faced tremendous turmoil internally and within society with all that they had to deal with. The most apparent and disastrous affects of slavery during the 18th century was the overall dissolution of society in regards to human rights, families, and the inability for slaves to voice an opinion of their own. Slavery brought forth major suffering. African American s who were enslaved experienced many troubling and painful feelings and emotions. With slavery, came problems; physical, emotional, and traumatizing experiences. Slavery was corrupt and dehumanizing. Some of the leading factors that resulted in why slavery was so awful was the tension and conflict it caused in society, families were split up and sold off separately, and lastly, it led to extremely inappropriate and wrongful forced sexual relationships between slave masters and their slaves, specifically young girls and women. It s been important because of its political clout of its corporations and finally it s been important for strategic reasons. The Mesabi Range ores has been worked by Rockefeller since 1892. Technological advance allowed lower grade taconite ores to be beneficiated and so enabled them to bear the transport costs to the steel mills further east. Demand for Steel: This continued to rise in aggregate throughout much of the first half of the 20th century. The nature of the demand altered however. Much less steel was now needed for rails, but structural steel became increasingly important as did rods, wire, tubes and pipes; steel was needed for tinplate and also very significant amounts were demanded by the transport industries. Organisation of the industry: At the turn of the century, there was much horizontal integration and merger activity reflecting, amongst other things, a desire to reduce competition and to increase the scale of enterprises. Some companies became involved in vertical integration, being particularly anxious to secure their supplies of coking coal and iron ore (the US relied very heavily on indigenous ... • 38. Use Of Chemical Weapons In Chemical Warfare The first actual use of a chemical weapon was in August 1914. The French utilized tear gas grenades during an attack against the Germans. One of the more known use of a chemical weapon was at the Second Battle of Ypres in April 1915. 160 tonnes of chlorine gas was released onto the French and Algerian troops. This could be considered the starting point in chemical warfare as it was the first large scale deployment of a chemical gas meant for harm. As more and more chemical weapons were developed, more and more countries followed the trend. The use of chlorine gas in trench warfare was first developed by Fritz Haber in 1914 as of help to the German army. At the Second Battle of Ypres, about 6,000 cylinders filled with about 160 tonnes of chlorine gas were opened and the gas made its way over to the French and Algerian lines. At first, the French thought it was a smoke screen and that the Germans were advancing towards them, but they were wrong. It was chlorine gas which would damage their respiratory organs and cause violent choking attacks. Back on the German lines, barely anybody expected this assault to be so successful and were not prepared to advance onto the French and Algerian lines while their troops were amidst panic and fear caused by the chlorine gas. Despite their unpreparedness, the Germans still advanced, but with a lack of self assurance and confidence. Before this attack, Fritz Haber was not supported very much, but seeing as how ... • 39. Examples Of Direct Characterization In Of Mice And Men One of the most astounding books Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, took place in one of the darkest time period in American History, the Great Depression. The setting of the book took place in a small country town in Soledad California, near the Salinas River. This book introduces the two main characters, George Milton, and Lennie Small with real life struggles of being migrant farm workers for a ranch. The story opens up with one of the many conflicts that George and Lennie will face throughout the whole story; George and Lennie running away from Weed after feeling a girls red dress. Although Lennie commits certain acts of violence in Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck portrays Lennie Small as having the traits common to the innocent archetype. John Steinbeck portrays Lennie s characterizations through indirect and direct characterizations. Indirect characterization is when the author will describe a person about how they are through context clues but not directly saying it. For example, No whatta want? Let s have different color rabbits George. (Steinbeck 16). That is indirect characterization for Lennie being childish because John Steinbeck does not come straight out and say that Lennie is childish, but readers can tell by the context that he is childish. Direct characterization is when the author comes right out to the readers and says the characters traits. For instance, Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man... (Steinbeck 2).
