Analysis Of The Street By Ann Petry
Being new to an unfamiliar place is always a challenge and bring discomfort, being alone and
knowing no one. In The Street , Ann Petry uses personification, selection of detail, and imagery in
order to reveal Lutie s relationship to the urban setting and to show the challenges Lutie Johnson faces
in the urban environment. At the beginning of the passage, Petry uses imagery in order to set the
environment in which the main character is introduced. Petry starts off with a cold November wind
blowing through the 116th street in order to show the environment as cold and breezy by saying the
cold wind that is blowing around they urban city and the dirt blowing around into people s eyes to
introduce the setting. She then goes to further introduce the setting by talking about the scraps of
paper flying around and how it did everything it could in order to discourage the people walking along
the streets. This allows the reader to picture the urban setting by appealing to their sense of touch
where you can feel the cold climate in the city and create a picture in their mind of garbage and paper
flying around and hindering the people s lives. Petry uses this in order to highlight Lutie Johnson s
eventual introduction to the urban setting and her unfamiliarity with the urban by letting us predict the
challenges Lutie Johnson will soon face there. Petry is able to create images in our head in order to
show Lutie Johnson in the urban setting; you are able to feel the cold,

The Formula And Percent Water Of Hydrated Magnesium Sulfate
Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to determine both the formula and percent water of hydrated
magnesium sulfate.
Background: According to George B. Kauffman of Britannica, a hydrate is any compound containing
water in the form of H2O molecules, usually, but not always, with a definite content of water by
weight. Within this, there are two aspects of the compound; the water of hydration and the anhydrous
salt. When a hydrate is heated, the water of hydration leaves the compound as vapor due to the
unsteady bonds between the water and salt molecules. The anhydrous salt ends up becoming the only
piece that is leftover. From the two, the percent water in a hydrate and the mass of the salt can be
determined from the loss of the water of hydration. As a result, the formula of the compound can be
found because the masses of the salt and the water can be used to determine the mole ratio, which are
both small, whole numbers.
Materials:
Gas burner
Ring stand and ring
Triangle made from clay
Crucible + lid
Crucible tongs
Wire pad
Balance scale
Spatula
Hydrated magnesium sulfate
Procedure:
Assemble the ring and ring stand atop a flat surface. Place the clay triangle in the center of the ring.
Lastly, bring the crucible with its lid into the clay triangle, so that it is hanging.
Turn on the gas burner and bring it a low heat, only to the point that there is a blue flame. Carefully
push the gas burner under the crucible and heat for around two minutes in order to properly

John Pitney s Steel Pier History
The Showplace of the Nation! and The Pier: A Legacy of Fun and Entertainment for the Entire Family
have been a few of the glowing terms used to describe the amusement park, Steel Pier, located
Atlantic City, NJ. The Pier first opened it s now legendary fun and entertainment venue in June of
1898 and soon become one of the most famously known theme parks and attractions in America,
entertaining tens of thousands of visitors daily. Sprawling 1,600 feet into the ocean, The Pier was
constructed from wood and steel. With a little stretch of the imagination, one may well yet hear the
sunbleached boards creak and groan beneath the footsteps of enraptured crowds while the sounds of
seagulls pierced the rolling ocean waves melodies. Throughout the decades of operation, The Pier
earned a nostalgic place in memory for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Jonathan Pitney, was the man we may credit with the transformation of The Pier into an
amusement park, with the belief that the location could be a successful entertainment destination.
George Hamid of Buffalo Bill s Circus, joined forces with Pitney to ramp up customer crowds at The
Pier and added a special blend of circus entertainment! Oh yes, make no doubt, history was made in
the name of Steel Pier! The Pier attracted many acting icons throughout the decades of the 1920 s into
the 1960 s. Through the portal from everyday life into hours of entertainment, came acting legends
and unbelievable entertainers to include, if you can believe it, The Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, George
Burns, Dean Martin, Milton Berle, George Burns, Three Stooges, old blue eyes Frank Sinatra, Mae
West, Abbott and Costello, Dick Clark, Paul Anka, Annette Funicello, Guy Lombardo, Benny

The Land Ethic By Aldo Leopold Essay
Question 1 The Land Ethic written by Aldo Leopold was critiqued by J. Baird Callicott. The Land
Ethic in short explained the idea that humans are not superior to animals or species on earth, but
humans should live on earth as simple members. (Leopold, 2013) Callicott found three things that lead
to the confusion, contempt, and contempt of Leopold s writings. The first thing that Callicott
discussed in reference to the neglect of Leopold s writings was the fact that they could actually be
done in a phrase or even one or two sentences. Leopold generalizes Darwin s writings and the
extended paradigm. Leopold states that all ethic s so far evolved rest upon a single premise: that the
individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts (Leopold, 2013). Callicott explains
that this basic phrase comes up again in The Land Ethic multiple times. This theory provides a link of
the community concept that all plants, animals, and birds are interconnected with earth other.
(Callicott, 2012) The second thing that Callicott discussed is that Leopold departs from contemporary
philosophical ethics paradigms and patterns. The Land Ethic follows the paradigm that was
constructed by Charles Elton, but the fact is that the writings follow more in line with that of F. E.
Clements and S.A. Forbes paradigm. Leopold states that there are the same repeated paradoxes, man
versus the biotic citizen, land the slave versus the collective organism. The focus on death and health

Monologue Of Mrs Light
In stark contrast, to Roderick s recklessness towards Christina, James shows Mrs Light s ardent
devotion towards her daughter, whom she once regarded as, a very ugly baby; for the first two years I
could hardly bear to look at her... (208), and such dedication is the direct result of a religious
revelation that, in fact, Christina is profoundly beautiful. Mrs Light s about face concerning Christina
s prettiness, she conveys to Rowland as a mythological tale in which she sees a little girl of four or
five, very fantastically dressed (208) whom she is taken aback by the child s beauty and wishes if my
poor Christina were only like that! (208) Then Mrs Light realises the child standing before her in a
queer little dress is, in fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helplessness is apparent by his emotional outburst to her astute comments: thus proving her point
that he is weak. While the couple talk, Rowland observes them in secret and hears the twosomes
discuss among other things Roderick s fiancée, Miss Garland. Again, Christina strikes a nerve
concerning Roderick s treatment of his fiancée, I believe that, really, you don t greatly care for your
friend in America... (216), and what she says next is the trait of someone who is perceptive in judging
the moral conduct of others, any more than you do for me. You are one of the men who care only for
themselves and for what they can make of themselves. (216) Miss Light s statement seems
hypocritical as she too is self absorbed, nevertheless, her awareness of this fault in Roderick and even
herself alerts the reader to the possibility she cares enough for the artist in order for him to leave her
with some semblance of dignity.
At any rate, Roderick tries to disprove her theory that he is

Sadest Poem Essay
Saddest Poem
Tow weeks ago one of my classmates has presented a poem from his culture, and I am sure that it s a
Latin culture. The poem is called Saddest Poem written by Pablo Neruda who is as I understood one
of the most famous Latinos poet. This poem was translated to English, even though it didn t lose its
original structure. No one can argue about the main idea of this poem that it s a sad poem and we can
clearly see that from the title. Neruda uses many of the poetry techniques to complete a perfect picture
ending with this poem. Sitting, metaphor, sounds, and imagery all were the elements that leaded to this
nice piece of literature.
When I read this poem, I felt that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is alone; there is only the night and the stars. He is thinking of her.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.
On night like this, I held her in my arms
I kissed her so many times under the infinite sky (6 8)
He keeps thinking of her and repeating I can write the saddest poem off all tonight (1,5,11) he is very
sad. Then he moved to describe her and their relationship she loved me, sometimes I loved her. (9)
Then he compared losing her with to hear the immense night, more immense without her. (13)
My soul is lost without her (18) this is a usual saying but its still a personification as well as my eyes
search for her.... my heart searches for her.. (19 20) There is a very nice line that I like because of it
sounds, which showed me how sad he is We, we who were, we are the same no longer. (22) The wee
sound is just showing how lost and sad he is. More over, he is not sure about something in his deep
feelings. Or I shall say he is sure but contradicting himself when he says I no longer love her, true,
perhaps I love her. (27) The best line in this poem, in my opinion, that represents personification,

The Pros And Cons Of The Sandwich Generation
In many families in our society today, the parents are a part of the sandwich generation and now are
raising kids that are growing up to take part in the boomerang generation. The sandwich generation
makes up of people who are in their thirties or forties that are trying to raise their own children while
looking after their elderly parents. On the other hand, the boomerang generation consists of young
adults who graduate high school and college to only come back and live with their parent and rely on
their support. As a result of this, there comes many challenges for both the parents and the child since
the sandwich generation is stuck in the conflicting nature of taking care of their elderly parents while
providing for their children by meeting their needs of emotional love and providing tangible needs.
However, many realize that their kids are entering into adulthood and now these parents face the
challenge of pushing their children to be independent and take on responsibility while trying to secure
a stable retirement. Not only that, but many parents are postponing their retirement because they are
helping their young adult children with their debts, studies or their housing. This can be very costly for
the parents since they oftentimes have to worry about their own future and the costly expenses that
come with retirement, and to provide for their kids who are currently relying on their support. This
situation is even worse if the parents are a part of the sandwich

Morte D Arthur Code Of Chivalry
A Knight s Honor:
An Analysis of Chivalry Throughout history, people of certain cultures base their lives off special
rules, or codes. The Anglo Saxons took examples from the epic hero of Beowulf. Knights during King
Arthur s rule lasted by the code of Chivalry. Lessons from this honorable code can be extracted from
the text of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, as well as from Morte D Arthur. Each of these
memorable pieces of literature show examples of the code of chivalry. The three aspects of chivalry
are courage, honor, and self control. To begin, the first form of chivalry can be clearly found in both
texts and portrays courage. Kings would knight men in return for their promise of courage, honor and
respect from the generous man. Courage is first found in The Green Night when an audacious man
named Gawain steps in to accept the challenge demonstrated from the Green Knight himself. Toward
the king doth now incline: I beseech, before all here, That this melee may be mine. Gawain
demonstrates chivalry by displaying the courage to accept a fatal challenge. Heroism is also presented
in the text of Morte D Arthur. This scrap of literature tells about the closing moments of the glorious
King Arthur. Even in his deathly state, Arthur shows the quality of bravery by battling for his kingdom
after the brutal battle that left all but four men dead. Now, tide me death, tide me life, ... now I see him
yonder alone, he shall never escape mine hands.

Advantages Of Olefins
Olefins are usually produced in large quantities in the petrochemical industry. The separation of
olefins from paraffins is of primary importance to the chemical industry. Olefin/paraffin mixture is
difficult to separate due to their similar physical and chemical properties such as molecular sizes and
boiling point. The most common method for olefin/paraffin separation in the industry is the distillation
process, commonly known as cryogenic distillation which is considered as one of the most energy
intensive processes in the oil and gas industry [1]. Due to the high costs and energy consuming
associated with this distillation an alternative methods need to be used.
Silver salts have been used as a separation facilitator since 1944. In this early work, an aqueous
solution of the silver salt AgNO3 at 50 wt% was used in the absorption and extraction of light olefins

In addition, the formed complex is chemically reversible, and therefore easy to break with a relatively
small amount of energy. The advantage of this operation is the lower energy requirement for the
separation as the break of the complex can be done by using simple engineering operations, such as
heating or de pressurization [4, 5]. Hollow fiber membrane contactors have been considered as an
alternative mean for gas/ liquid separation which have many advantages over conventional direct gas/
liquid techniques such as spray towers and packed/tray columns [6]. In this process, two phases gas
phase and an absorbent solvent come into direct contact for mass transfer without the dispersion of
one phase into the other due to the presence of the

Nowadays, it is almost impossible to find a company or organization which does not use any kind of
technology or information system to help run their operations and processes. Computer technology
has become extremely integrated in the business environment and its benefits are very valuable. That
is the reason why so many businesses decide to invest in information systems. Mainly, it increases
productivity the employees can focus on task which requires human thinking and do not waste their
time on collecting paperwork. What is more, investing in information systems, even though it requires
huge capital expenditure, can reward generously in the future.

human errors were frequent and lack of security was common.

system that could create and manage airline seat reservations and instantly make that data available
electronically to any travel agent at any location. As a result, Semi Automated Business Research

Cyanide Reaction Lab Report
I. INTRODUCTION
Cyanide is a chemical compound containing cyano (─C≡N) groups, comprising carbon and nitrogen
radicals, and can be found in various organic and inorganic compounds. Some inorganic cyanide
compounds such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) and potassium cyanide (KCN) are groups of compounds
having negatively charged polyatomic cyanide ions (CN ). This compound is a salt of a highly toxic
hydrocyanic acid. Several types of organic cyanides are usually called nitriles, in which the CN group
is covalently bonded to a carbon group, such as methyl (CH3) dimethyl cyanide (acetonitrile). Since
nitrile compounds do not release free cyanide ions, they are generally less toxic, or in the case of
insoluble polymers such as acrylic fibers, essentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nickel in the nickel (II) state is more stable than nickel (0), nickel (I), nickel (III) and nickel (IV).
Nickel (I) and nickel (0) are unstable because they are easily oxidized, nickel (III) is easily reduced to
nickel (II) and nickel (IV) is rare. Nickel (II) forms a large number of complexes with coordination
numbers 6, 5, and 4, which have all major types of structures, namely octahedral, bipiramidal trigonal,
pyramidal squares, tetrahedral, and square (Cotton and Wilkinson, 2009). Most nickel complexes
adopt octahedron geometry structures, adopt only slightly the geometry of tetrahedron and square.
A nickel (II) complex with a strong ligand capable of performing better electron donations, tends to
prefer a square structure rather than an octahedral. The commonly known nickel (II) complex
compound is a tetracanonic acid (II) ([Ni(CN)4)]2 ) diamagnetic ion. The square structure can occur
because one d orbitals, one s orbital and two p orbitals undergo dsp2 hybridization. The square nickle
cyanide complex with a strong cyanide ligand will be more stable with the radii of Ni2+ (Å) ions

Comparing The Seafarer And Wife s Lament
The Exeter poems are a compilation of poems and stories written in Old English, from the Anglo
Saxons. Three of these poems have gained special notoriety: The Seafarer , The Wanderer , and Wife s
Lament . Each of these poems have a bleak tone to them, and they speak of wandering and loss,
whether it s an emotional or physical loss. Both of the speakers in The Seafarer and The Wanderer feel
emotional loss and sadness while at sea, but believe that by being faithful and continuing on their
earthly journey, they will, in the end, achieve true happiness. The wife in Wife s Lament has suffered
the physical loss of her husband, and the loss of acceptance in her community, but unlike the previous
two poems, she does not seem to think she can achieve happiness. Three messages, or themes, from

It is fairly obvious that each of these three speakers are suffering, though in different ways. The
speaker in The Seafarer suffers from loneliness and a prolonged feeling of despair as he spends his
winter at sea, which is miserable. He feels as if he has no friends, and is truly lonely. The speaker in
The Wanderer is scarcely different. He is also at sea due to exile, and he blames his suffering on the
loneliness and rejection he feels from kinsmen. He is also friendless and lonely, like the previous
speaker, and isn t sure on how to continue on. The wife in Wife s Lament suffers as well. Her husband
has wandered away, and she grieves his absence. She also grieves over her feeling lonely and without
friends, as she was left behind while her husband wandered. The Exeter poems each has a distinct

There are three sociological perspectives of race and ethnicity which are functionalist, conflict, and

perspective emphasizes how the parts of society are structured to maintain its stability. As also
described in the reading the functionalist approach is an approach, if an aspect of social life does not
contribute to a society s stability or survival, it will not be passed on from one generation to the next.

As described it was the movement of 2 million African American out of the Southern United States to
the Midwest, Northeast, and West from 1910 to 1930. They migrated to escape racism and seek
employment opportunities in industrial cities.
When the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 less than eight percent of the African
American population lived in the northeastern or Midwestern U.S. As described, Between 1910 and
1930, the African American population grew by about 40% in Northern states, mostly in the major
cities. Cities such as Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Cleveland had some of the biggest increases in
the early part of the century. Because changes were concentrated in cities, urban tensions rose as
African Americans and new or recent European immigrants, both groups chiefly from rural societies,
competed for jobs and housing with the white ethnic working class. Tensions were often most severe
between ethnic Irish, defending their positions, and recent immigrants and blacks.
African Americans moved as individuals or small family groups. There was no government assistance,
but often northern industries, such as the railroads, meatpacking and stockyards, recruited people. The
primary factor for migration was the racial climate and widespread violence of lynching in the South.
In the North, they could find better schools and adult men could vote (joined by women after 1920).

Effects Of The Financial Crisis Of Deutsche Bank s...
7. Effects of the financial crisis Deutsche bank s involvement with collateralized debt obligations and

because of globalization, and the interrelations of the world s economy. The recession created here by
the housing bubble bursting helped to create a global recession. 8. Regulation Most financial
institutions do not hold themselves accountable. However, they do fall under the regulation of
governing bodies. In the United States we have the US securities and exchange commission (SEC)
that regulates trading of commodities and securities that are exchanged on an open market. In April
2010 the SEC proposed revisions to the application of asset backed securities (CDO and RMBS). A
few of the most important implementations are that the issuer is required to file on the SEC website a

The Importance Of Species Diversity
Introduction A key component of any ecosystem on Earth is the presence of plants. Within these
plants, variation and diversity are abundant. Plants can vary in many characteristics, such as leaf
structure, height, bark structure, and diameter at breast height. The culmination of this variety among
plants is termed the biodiversity of plants, which encompasses three realms: species diversity, genetic
diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Species diversity pertains to the variety of species in a specific
ecosystem. Genetic diversity refers to variation in specific traits among individuals of the same
species. Finally, ecosystem diversity refers to the variation of ecosystems in a specific area. For
purposes of this study, we will only focus on species diversity. Studying species diversity of plants
entails measuring the amount and size of different species in a given area. The importance of this type
of study stretches far beyond observation and results. Species diversity among plants in an ecosystem
is vital to the sustainability of that ecosystem. An ecosystem with greater species diversity uses its
resources more efficiently, making it more productive. In addition, greater plant diversity leads to
greater community biomass due to reduced nutrient loss and increased carbon reserves (Tilman and
Lehman, 1997). Our study primarily focuses on the species diversity of trees at the Case Western
Reserve University farm. More specifically, the area of interest is the wooded area to

Summary Of Le Guin s The Child And The Shadow
In 1975, fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin delivered a lecture discussing a Hans Christian Andersen
fairy tale she remembered from childhood. In this story, a man burdened by cowardice could not
gather the courage to visit the house of the pretty woman that lived across the street. His shadow; his
dark desires and guilty pleasures, wanted the man to go across the street. Yet, the man did not want to
for he was afraid, this fear caused him to tell the shadow to leave. Thus, the shadow left. The shadow
goes on to explore the house of the pretty woman, and accordingly strays unaccompanied and
unattended through the world. Years later, the man and the shadow reconnect. The man discovers that
his actions have now caused his shadow to become his master , and missing that part of himself, the
man is executed. Le Guin uses this dark tale in combination with Jungian psychology and Daoism
philosophy to illustrate that a person and their shadow must interact and coexist with each other to
survive. Without this balance, life will be impossible. Throughout The Child and the Shadow , Le
Guin makes eloquent points about the importance of a person s shadow, Carl Jung s archetypes in
relation to the shadow, and how fantasy novels help children adapt to the traumatic events of reality. In
Hans Christian Andersen s fairy tale, the man is executed. The man had rid himself of his shadow,
attempting to hide the flaws that were lurking inside. For, in the words of Le Guin, The shadow is the

Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument
Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument
In the following paper, I will outline Samuel Clarke s Modern Formulation of the Cosmological
Argument and restate some of the points that he makes. Samuel Clarke s argument for the existence of
God states that There has existed from eternity some one unchangeable and independent being (37).
The argument follows a logical flow and can be better understood when the structure is laid out and
the argument reconstructed.
Clarke begins his argument with a use of disjunctive syllogism, a form of valid logical reasoning that
proposes two outcomes, denies one, and thus proves the other to be true. Clarke s premise states that
one of the two following statements must be true: either there has ... Show more content on

He states that since the series of dependent beings couldn t be caused by any external or internal
source, that it would have to be cause absolutely by nothing . He then states that this is a contradiction
to be done in time; and because duration in this case makes no difference. He also states that it is a
contradiction to suppose it done from eternity. Since the universe has parts that come into existence at
one occasion and not another, it must have a cause. There could supposedly be an infinite regress of
causes if there was evidence for such, but lacking such evidence, God must exist as the cause. Clarke
does not specifically identify God at any point in his argument. He ends with There must be on the
contrary, of necessity have existed from eternity, some one immutable and independent Being (37).
Whatever one chooses to call this Being , it is the one unchangeable and independent being that
Clarke attempts to prove the existence of in his argument.

Examples Of Satire In The Simpsons
The Simpsons: Equal Opportunity Satire While there are many different perspectives on whether the
popular animated show The Simpsons depicts Christianity in a favorable, unfavorable or apathetic
light, my personal opinion is that the signature satirical style of the show is actually a strategy to
please the widest audience, whether religious or not presenting equal opportunity satire. Their
unapologetic and unabashed way of making fun of anything and everything is what has allowed the
show to continue for so many seasons and also allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The
diverse characters represented in the series advocate a wide range of different perspectives, ranging
from the atheistic to the theistic. In the 1992 episode, Homer the Heretic, where the plotline can be ...

On one hand, Christians would see the fact that the Simpson home burned and that Homer was saved
by Flanders as divine retribution and a second chance by God for Homer s refusal to attend weekly

simply another instance of people using easily explained natural phenomena to reinforce their biases
and confirmation bias when Homer reinforces his belief in God by being saved by Flanders
(Confirmation Bias). Nevertheless, the show accommodates many different cultures and beliefs.
Pinksy says individually, family members represent a spectrum of belief, from Homer s fear based neo

Narrative Essay On Normandy s Men
Ashley Nelson Mr.Showley English 11 14 December 2015 Normandy s Men Plot J, Row 11, Grave
16. I didn t understand what this list of numbers and letters meant at first but I do now. They are in
reference to a sea of graves, so white they swallow all colors of life. The green of the grass, of tree,
colors of the flower, are covered by a blanket of sacrifice. That is the American Cemetery in
Normandy, lists of numbers and letters that reference fathers, brothers, husbands, and loved ones. Men
that will never come home again, because they gave it all to protect a dream, a dream many never saw.
During a week in France with a school group, we dedicated a day to the men of Normandy. It was a
very wet day; the sky was overcast and freezing. We choose our first beach to be that of Point D Huc.
When we first arrived, the scene looked like a wild garden. As we started to walk down a set trail, I
started to notice that one plant in particular had grown completely out of control, barbed wire. It was
everywhere, erupting from the undergrowth. We struggles free of the wire, moving to the cliff front of
the beach. The first thing I really noticed was how the terrain didn t match with what we had ... Show

sculpture. There were five separate steel pieces that flashed against the sky like swords. These swords
stood for those who could not, they stood for my grandfather who had fought on the beaches and had
watched his friends get gunned down next to him. The water was so calm that it was hard to imagine
what it could have been like for him, watching tanks roll through the waves and constant chatter of

He is a behavioral scientist who knows how to get people in an organization involved in solving their
own problems. His main strength is a comprehensive knowledge of human behavior, supported by a
number of intervention techniques (to be discussed later). The change agent can be either external or
internal to the organization. An internal change agent is usually a staff person who has expertise in the
behavioral sciences and in the intervention technology of OD. Beckhard reports several cases in which
line people have been trained in OD and have returned to their organizations to engage in successful
change assignments. [3] In the natural evolution of change mechanisms in organizations, this would
seem to approach the ideal arrangement. Qualified change agents can be found on some university
faculties, or they may be private consultants associated with such organizations as the National
Training Laboratories Institute for Applied Behavioral Science (Washington, D.C.) or University
Associates (San Diego, California), and similar organizations.
The change agent may be a staff or line member of the organization who is schooled in OD theory and
technique. In such a case, the contractual relationship is an in house agreement that should probably
be explicit with respect to all of the conditions involved except the fee.

Berry Gordy s Accomplishments
Berry Gordy founded Motown records in 1959, and created one of the most famous recording
companies to ever produce music. Motown had crossover success that helped promote the music of
African Americans. Motown records helped the civil rights movement and helped the blacks in their
fight for their rights. Berry Gordy really helped out the African American community by creating
Motown records and showing the world that blacks could really make quality music.
On January 12, 1959 a young man by the name of Berry Gordy founded Motown record. Berry had

Motown also had success not only music but in crossing over with white listeners. Motown was the

to assess the validity of accounting choice theory, which postulates that information asymmetry,

Our findings suggest that all the rationales described by accounting choice theory (information
asymmetry, contractual efficiency and managerial opportunism) drive the decision to adopt fair value.
Indeed, regarding contractual efficiency reasons in particular, we find that the larger the size (proxy of
political costs), the less likely fair value is to be chosen, while leverage and consequent lenders
protection seems to be insignificant for the choice.
Furthermore, our results show that market to book ratio (MTBV) (proxy of information asymmetry) is
negatively related to the fair value choice. This finding, that conflicts with existing literature, could be
accounted for in the real estate industry due to the fact that high levels of MTBV in this context reveal
growth opportunities associated with a fair estimation of investment properties and therefore with a
low information asymmetry. Managerial opportunism behaviour, measured by a dummy variable for
earnings smoothing, seems to have an influence on fair value choice.
While all these variables seem to have an influence on the fair value choice, the same variables do not
explain the choice of historical cost with the IFRS1 revaluation option in preference to the cost
maintenance approach.

Brick Walls In My Life
During his lecture, Randy said that throughout your life you will encounter brick walls. These walls
are meant to slow you down, but they are not there to stop your goals. The walls actually push you to
work harder in life to achieve those goals. Throughout life one will encounter failures every wear they
turn. Whether it is being fired from your job or failing a test. You will not go through your life without
encountering failure. In fact it is a good thing to experience failure once in a while. It keeps us humble
about life and it shows that not everything is given to us. Throughout my life I have experienced my
fair share of brick walls. Although I was able to overcome most of them, I still couldn t overcome one.
A few brick walls that I have faced over the course of my life include overcoming a death of a close
friend and family. However there was one brick wall that took me a while to overcome. About two
years ago, during a baseball game at home, I suffered a stage three hyperextension of my right knee
while batting. The pain was equivalent to having my knee dislocated. I had to exit the game and I
feared that my baseball season may be over. The following day while on a visit to the doctor, the worst
of my fears were realized. The doctor said there was possibility that I would not play baseball the
remainder of that season. Over the next couple of weeks, I had to undergo physical pain everyday
while trying to walk around school. It was so bad that it

Essay on ANS Nervous System
The Structure amp; function of the
Autonomic Nervous System
Introduction:
The organs of our body are controlled by many systems in order to function correctly and efficiently
in order to survive within the environment we live in. These include the heart, stomach and intestines
and other vital organs and body systems. All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the
nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is part of the peripheral
nervous system and it controls many organs and muscles within the body. Rather bizarrely we are
unable to determine or feel its presence in our bodies as it is working involuntary, as a reflexive
manner. A common example of this involuntary action is best understood when ... Show more content

Take notice of figure.1 in the illustrated diagram that the sympathetic nervous system originates in the
spinal cord. Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar
spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In
most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few
preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The
postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland.
Two more facts about the sympathetic nervous system are the synapse in the sympathetic ganglion,
uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. The synapse of the postganglionic neuron with the target
organ uses the neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. There is one exception to this, the sympathetic
postganglionic neuron that terminates on the sweat glands uses acetylcholine.
The Parasympathetic nervous system is an antagonist to the sympathetic nervous system. Its primary
function is to give you the ability to rest and relax, in times when you are tired or stressed. The
parasympathetic nervous system works to save energy and allow your blood pressure to also decrease.
Your heartbeat reduces becoming much slower, and digestion can start. Notice again in figure

Women s Christian Temperance Movement Essay
The recently formed Women s Christian Temperance Movement (WCTU) took up the campaign for
the vote in 1885. The movement was strongly linked to church and had the motto For God, Home and
Humanity. The WCTU had previously been involved in a temperance movement and this was one of
the main reasons they decided to campaign for the vote. According to Wood social climate had the
greatest effect on mobilising women into a combined effort to rid themselves of laws that
discriminated against them. Drunkenness and crime were two major reasons why women made the
move to throw off the shackles that prevented their recognition as equals with men. The vote became
imperative if the lot of women and children were to improve. The women s vote did have many
purposes, but improving the low moral level of society at that time was easily the most important.
Many believed that female franchise would lead to the purification of New Zealand society and the
Christianisation of politics. It was believed that women had a stronger, nobler vision for a pure society
which would lead to higher levels of sobriety and morality in New Zealand. The suffragists promoted
the vote as a way that women could have social control over undesirable elements in the population.
In the late nineteenth century women were beginning to find a place in the more public spheres of life.
Larger numbers of women than ever were in paid employment; by 1874 twenty percent of females
over fifteen were employed. Many

Social Control through Works of Fiction
Vampire stories have universal themes that provide the backbone for every dark tale. The unholy
essence that any vampire story provides sets the stage for the message that the Church is the way of
life and will save you from creatures of evil. From in class readings, we can see all the major religious
themes of the classic vampire story. The common religious theme is the abscess of light is the absence
of holiness and is the path to eternal damnation. Darkness is the prime universal fear of humanity
mostly because we, as a species, are not nocturnal creatures; therefore, we have developed a fear of
the predator filled darkness of night. Using figurative descriptions of darkness as the enemy, the
Church preaches the way of the light. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cross burned into his flesh like a hot coal. He snatched back his hand but the burning metal clung.
He felt the heat of it coursing up his arm, and hurled it savagely across the room (Miller). This burning
sensation that the cross gives vampires is the Churches connection and reminder that someone or
something that does not follow the way of the cross will be burned eternally in Hell. Vampire
protection is the Church s way of creating fear that will ultimately lead to the fearful turning back to
the Church for protection and guidance. With the turn of sexual culture in the Victorian Era, Church
leaders needed to establish a way to regain a tight grip on society as a whole.
Comparable themes in vampire stories and Biblical stories are evident within the class readings. The
story of Shambleau by Catherine L. Moore begins with a mob on the hunt for a creature by the name
of Shambleau, only to be confronted by a man by the name of Northwest Smith who is opposed to
giving Shambleau up to the crowd. This confrontation of an angry crowd show striking resemblance
to the story of Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate whereas an angry mob demanded the governor Pontius
Pilate to give up Jesus to be crucified just as the angry mob in Shambleau wanted Shambleau to be
given up to the crowd. He let loose a deep throated bellow, Shambleau! and lunged forward. Behind
him the mob took up the cry again. Shambleau! Shambleau! Shambleau! and surged after

The Bolshevik Revolution And The Revolution
The Bolshevik revolution started in February 1917 and concluded in October with the seizure of
power. There were different aspects that lead to this victory. Bolsheviks had been a minority
previously, but after 1917 February they started gaining members rapidly and by 1917 October they
had 350, 000 members in the party. To see how they finally were victorious one would have to look at
the revolution as a longer phenomenon that took months to reach a final result. The workers were
significant to the Bolshevik revolution, especially in comparison to the other classes who contributed,
but did not have the same power over the events as the workers did. Looking at the revolutionary

Space Race Dbq
The Space Race was invoked by the growing technologies of the United States and Soviet Union s
space programs during the Cold War. The starting point of the Space Race was the launch of Sputnik 1
by the Soviet Union. The Space Race has impacted society greatly politcally, socially, and
economically. The Space Race was a very tense period of time in history because both the United
States and Soviet Union improved their technology to such a degree that the two countries have both
made it to space multiple times.
The Space Race has impacted the political, social, and economic aspects of the US society greatly. It
mainly affected the political aspect. A way that the lead of the Soviet Union in the Space Race affected
the US Society is the Vanguard rocket was prepared for launch at Cape Canaveral. On December
6/1957, the slender, delicate instrument was fired, began to rise, and then sank back down on itself,
crushing its engines and erupting into a huge fireball. The pathetic collapse was carried live on
television, right in front of the world. This was what we were capable of, while the Russians rode the

them four years to catch up to our atomic bomb and nine months to catch up to our hydrogen bomb.

Stem cells are cells within the body that have the ability to grow and reproduce repeatedly into any

Comcast s Residential Brand Xfinity- Essay
Comcast s residential brand Xfinity has already released a video monitoring product for its market.
Even though this gives Comcast Business a framework for the launch of the Smart Office product,
there are still risks to take into account before the launch of this new project. Anticipated/possible
risks include:
1. Potential Bottleneck due to lead time with Camera Orders
a. This is the first time Comcast Business has worked with Axis, our video camera supplier. To stay
lean Comcast will be ordering only what is needed for pending orders. If demand is high, customers
may have to endure long wait times for installation because of camera inventory at the local Comcast
warehouse/Technician dispatch center.
2. Inability to measure demand in new markets
a. Comcast has only trialed this product in select Northeastern US states. Demand is currently
unknown in other regions. Competition is low, but this does not necessarily present and opportunity
for high demand.
3. Potentially being forced to use 3rd Party install technicians
a. For standard internet or phone installations, Comcast will sometimes utilize contractors to complete
the work. This is usually when order volume is high, as we do not have enough technicians to
complete all orders in a timely manner. We have received customer feedback that the contractors are

keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed This has been distorted so many ways. This amendment is
also dated. We have to keep in mind that our society has changed since this amendment has been
written. This was made around the time of the Revolutionary War. During that time all males citizens
were required to own guns because they were fighting against the British forces. Virginia has the best
interpretation of the second amendment. Before the Declaration of Independence, Virginia was the
first colony to adopt a state constitution. They stated that the second amendment as follows: A well
regulated Militia, composed of the body of the people trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe
defense of a free state Today there is no need to protect ourselves from government take over. We

The Roll Of A Leader
Dominic Harris
Nash, Becknell
11/11/2015
The roll of a leader is more than basically holding an initiative position or being able to lead.
Everybody is fit for being a leader, yet not everybody practices their initiative capacities. Every
individual s concept of initiative is distinctive. My idea of leadership has developed over time, and
being a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and Grace College men s soccer team
has helped me develop my philosophy of leadership rapidly than what it was four years ago.
According John Carter, Director of the Indiana Olympic Development Program, ODP is a national
program, started in 1977, to identify, train, and develop youth players to represent their state, region,
and country in soccer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have such respect for me parents so I work hard to not forget what they taught me at home. So when
I play with ODP I learn to understand other player to be a better captain and I work hard on and of the
soccer field to be a good leader for my teammate. As for Grace College men s soccer team I am being
led by other so I try to work harder to set a good leading example with other around me.
My own philosophy of authority is the ability to impact change through showing others how it is done,
taking activity, and inspiring others. There have been numerous things that have affected my theory of
initiative. Something that has affected me as leader is this values I life by now. One of my center
values is responsibility. As a leader, it is vital I comprehend what to do and what is anticipated from
me. When I am dependable as a leader, those I am attempting to lead are all the more ready to do what
I request that they do. Another of my values is respect. Previously, I am constantly pleasant and listen
to the thoughts of others regardless of the fact that they are not the least demanding individuals to be
around. I would say, it has been simpler to procure the admiration of my constituents and respect them
as well. My central beliefs will continue to influence my behavior as a leader in the future to come.
The development of my leadership philosophy has also been a result of watching my leaders. One
leader that has affected me a lot has been my father. I never

Congenital Left Ventricular Outpouching ( Lvo )
Introduction: Congenital left ventricular outpouching (LVO) is a rare disorder in which a confined
protrusion arises from the left ventricular (LV) free wall. The terms LV aneurysm, LV diverticulum,
double chambered LV and LV accessory chamber have been used interchangeably in the literature [1
9], however anatomical differences do exist between these terms [10]. LV aneurysm is an expansible
thin walled, usually fibrotic myocardium and pericardium, pouch contracting in asynchrony with the
LV and has a wide communication with the LV cavity. Conversely, an LV diverticulum has three
cardiac wall layers (endocardium, myocardium and pericardium), contracts in synchrony with the LV
and has a narrow connection to LV. LV accessory chamber presents an entity that combines some
criteria of both aneurysm and diverticulum. Its wall is similar to a diverticulum but it has a wide
communication with the LV as an aneurysm. Lastly, double chambered left ventricle displays a
combination of the above mentioned characteristics. A novel classification was recently introduced by
Rad et al [11], which depends mainly on the LV geometry and proposes a type dependent outcome
prediction. According to this classification, the LVO is termed double chamber left ventricle if the LV
maintains the elliptical cavity shape. If the LV shape is distorted, LVO is classified into LVO type I
when the outpouching has normal wall motion and thickness, type IIa when wall thickness is
decreased, type IIb when

Importance Of Depository Receipt Is A Negotiable...
INTRODUCTION
The past few decades have witnessed the increased internationalization of various firms through cross
listings on international exchanges. This has been facilitated by market liberalisation, which has led to
greater integration of global securities markets. Cross border listing has become one of the avenues for
the integration of global securities markets.
There are two forms of cross border listing, namely, direct listing and indirect listing. Direct listing
implies that the firm concerned offers ordinary shares to the public. Indirect listing on exchanges is
through Depository Receipts (DRs). Depository receipt is a negotiable certificate issued by a bank in a
domestic country that represent ownership of shares in companies of other countries. Cross listing,
particularly through DRs such as American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) or Global Depositary
Receipts (GDRs), is a popular way of internationalisation among firms from emerging economies. In
addition to Europe and America, International firms are allowed to cross list in other countries through
the DR programme.
There could be several reasons for a domestic company to cross list, such as an expanding investor
base, the desire to improve stock liquidity through its highly liquid secondary market, the increasing
visibility of the company, a growing customer base, and the wish to take advantage of higher
valuations. From the perspective of investors, cross listing mitigates some

Pros And Cons Of Using Car Air Conditioning
Using Car Air Conditioning Stop Leak
Here were going to discuss the pros and cons of using car air conditioning stop leak. Many people
with old rides give up when the AC stops working because these repairs can be so expensive.
In fact it s not uncommon for an AC repair estimate to exceed the total value of the automobile. With
that said, you can repair a leaking Schrader valve for under $50.
This is why it s important to find out what s wrong. When you finally do go to sell your old ride and
operating air conditioning system will increase the value and could close the sale on a hot summer
day.
With the low cost of air conditioning stop leak it s tempting to go ahead and throw a can in the system
and see if it solves all your problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s an amazing little device is also used to hold the air pressure into your tires.
This is often an overlooked area where Freon can leak out of your car. The device can loosen up and
lose it seal and leak tiny amounts of Freon over long periods of time. Using the leak detection methods
discussed on this page doesn t work for the AC Schrader valve.
When you install the dye you will get some of that liquid on the Schrader valve so it will always
indicate a leak. Not only can it loosen up over time but systems that get a lot of maintenance or had a
lot of problems can wear out the rubber O ring seals on the Schrader valve.
A lot of times when mechanics say they can t find the leak is because they didn t check the air
conditioning Schrader valve with a halogen Freon leak detector. This is a sniffing device that sounds
an alarm when it senses different types of refrigerant. Since is heavier than air you actually have to
place the sensing probe below the Schrader valve not

The Mongols DBQ
The Mongols were a group of people who conquered lands and impacted a large part of the world.
Although the Mongols were known for their cruel tactics of conquering, they ended up benefiting as
much as they killed. The Mongols had a skillful army, but they influenced greater goods as they
conquered.
The Mongols were a nomadic group, who relied greatly on their animals and their trade for survival.
Shortage of their animals and their trade could be significantly detrimental to their survival. In
document 1, The Mongols in World History , one of the main reason for the Mongols conquest was a
drop in temperature. The document states Mongolia experienced a drop in the mean annual
temperature, which meant that the growing season ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mongols were known to be cruel and nefarious but also positively impacted the world as well.
Mongols specifically influenced Europe. In document 5, by the author Robert Guisepi, the Mongols
influenced trade. It states in the document making possible the exchange of food, tools, and ideas on
and trade routes brought great wealth to traders ( Doc 5). After the Roman Empire fell, the Silk Road
also fell. This was significant because many other Empires depended on the silk road to trade goods,
and keep their Empire going. Later on, the Mongols strengthen the Silk road. They built many new
bridges and set up many trading posts, the Silk road became safer and easier to travel. This was one
way they benefited the world, because many Empires depended on the trading route. The Mongols
were aiding other Empires. In document 6, by the author Gregory Guzman, the Mongols also had an
impact on the world by influencing the way Europeans viewed the rest of the world. In the document
it states they were exposed to different cultures beliefs, values, values, attitudes, and in
situations...They began to realize that they had to deal with and relate to the non Christian world with
its many different peoples. (Doc 6). Before the Mongols were isolationist, they didn t interact with
certain parts of the world because of their beliefs and values. The Mongols came along and made
Europeans more internationalist, they started interacting with the rest of the world more frequently,
whereas before they neglected them. Europeans and the rest of the world became interconnected,
which meant there was cultural diffusion. This is significant because if Europeans became more
involved with the world, they would also be involved with the rest of the world if a change takes
place. On the other hand if they stayed isolationist, they would

Cost Reduction And Revenue Growth
4.4 Operational Considerations
Ideally, Jet2(b) will undertake a strategic combination of cost reduction and revenue growth, however
the former is easier and quicker to implement in the short term.
Jet2 and Monarch employs 5,200 (About Us, 2016) and 3,000 (Corporate Facts Figures, 2016) staff
respectively. With a high ratio of employee costs to total costs, combining this workforce will cause
thousands of job losses, triggering immediate cost benefits. Jet2(b) will develop a common set of
terms of employment and determine redundancy packages which overall will create staff morale
issues.
Monarch s Luton headquarters will be shut down, and all administrational functions will be transferred
to Jet2 s headquarters in Leeds.
Staff training costs will increase significantly as Jet2(b) will look to Jet2 ify Monarch or new staff
under Jet2 s existing successful Take Me There training programme. According to Amiot et al,
employees who are actively involved during times of organisational change experience higher job
satisfaction and lower psychosomatic health complaints (Amiot et al, 2006). As a Commitment
Organisation, Jet2 management already consults employees regularly and allows increased discretion
within their individual roles. It also recognises employee happiness as a key component in customer
happiness, so will make boosting staff morale a priority too. All Jet2(b) staff, including crew and
ground staff, will adopt the old Jet2 uniform. The Monarch website will be

Interpretive Stimulations Analysis
Interpretive Simulations Final Paper Fundamentals of Human Resources 7/29/10 1. Describe your
long range goals and strategies in the HR Management Simulation. When I first began this simulation,
I was confused and unsure of how to strategize. I questioned whether my strategies should be more for
the benefit of the company or for the benefit of the employee. Maybe I am naive in my thought
process but I ultimately decided to strategize for the employees. It is my belief and experiences in both
the corporate and non corporate sectors that happy employees are more productive therefore leading to
more profit for the business. I also believe that the more money invested into the training and safety of

External Hiring As I mentioned before, it was part of my strategic plan to promote from within when
plausible. I hired externally for entry level positions and most mid level positions. I usually promoted
internally for upper level jobs, but occasionally hired externally to acquire employees with a fresh
perspective. I consulted the staffing report to view projected available positions in each level to
determine promo ability. Overall, I hired more external employees because the majority of the
available jobs were in entry level positions. I chose not to hire any employees in the first quarter
because I was not sure of the simulation and used that quarter to see the difference between projected
resignations and actual without making any decisions. In quarter 6 I chose not to hire for budget
reasons. The following chart reflects the internal and external hire values per quarter. Quarter 0 |

Primates Part 1 Book Report
Primates have always been a fascination of author Robert Sapolsky who wrote an autobiography about
a trip he took to Kenya as a research undergraduate student. Part 1 is named the adolescent years and
talks about when Sapolsky first joined the baboon trip to Kenya. It introduces his research assignment,
how stress affected a primates health, and the baboons he recorded his data from. Soloman was the
alpha male and Leah was the alpha female. Devorah was the most eligible female in the group. Ruth, a
lower ranking baboon, who had difficulty finding a mate settled down with Joshua, another lower
ranking baboon. They soon had Obadiah. Uriah a large baboon who transferred into the group in the
spring persisted a challenge against Soloman until he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both gather their belongings and travel to Nairobi, Sapolsky guides Lisa around the surrounding areas
and to the baboons. Towards the end, Sapolsky had traveled to Olemelepo to perform an autopsy on a
diseased baboon. To confirm whether it was Tuberculosis, he had another sick baboon studied and the
results came out positive for Bovine TB. Luckily, the baboon troop he was studying was not affected
but the rates were growing rapidly for the Olemelopo baboon troop. Ultimately, the source of Bovine
TB came from cattle raised by the Masai people, who refused to kill off the cows. Sapolsky went back
to the United States to study TB in baboons and when he returned to Kenya, he arrived in time to say
goodbye to his baboon troop who was affected by the outbreak. The last one of his troop to go was,
Joshua, who he sat with and fed cookies until he was gone. An overall theme in all four parts has to do
with Sapolsky s growth. He starts out with a dream of conducting research on primates as an
undergraduate student to getting his PhD to getting a professorship and finally becoming a professor
who settles down and has children of his

Ernest Shackleton Expedition To Antarctica

I Am African Born And Raised
I would love to think that your family background and where come from should not predict how you
communicate in life, but who you grew up with, who are your family and where you grew up
definitely has a lot of influence of how you are going to communicate later in life
There is no doubt that Africans and Middle Eastern people are one of the loudest human beings in the
world. They can make a casual conversation look like the beginning of world War Three. I am African
born and raised. I was brought into a big family with Lebanese, Egyptian, German, Chadian and
Sudanese heritage.
When I first moved to America, on our second day in San Antonio my parents went to HEB to gets
some groceries for the apartment. They were talking about what to get and they saw a passion fruit
something we don t have back home. One of the associate won t stop staring at my parent, because
how loud they were, you can literally hear them from accross the store and the HEB on I 10 is pretty
big. In my family, we talk with our hand all over the place so it looked like my dad was about to put
his hand on my mom, which he would never do. but when people started gathering around us and the
cop saw what he was doing, they came towards my dad and arrested my dad. My Father was so
confused on what was going, couldn t understand why they put him in cuffs. We had to call our
caseworker to explain that he is not at all abusive and he is no threat to my family or mother and this
was all a

  • 2. Analysis Of The Street By Ann Petry Being new to an unfamiliar place is always a challenge and bring discomfort, being alone and knowing no one. In The Street , Ann Petry uses personification, selection of detail, and imagery in order to reveal Lutie s relationship to the urban setting and to show the challenges Lutie Johnson faces in the urban environment. At the beginning of the passage, Petry uses imagery in order to set the environment in which the main character is introduced. Petry starts off with a cold November wind blowing through the 116th street in order to show the environment as cold and breezy by saying the cold wind that is blowing around they urban city and the dirt blowing around into people s eyes to introduce the setting. She then goes to further introduce the setting by talking about the scraps of paper flying around and how it did everything it could in order to discourage the people walking along the streets. This allows the reader to picture the urban setting by appealing to their sense of touch where you can feel the cold climate in the city and create a picture in their mind of garbage and paper flying around and hindering the people s lives. Petry uses this in order to highlight Lutie Johnson s eventual introduction to the urban setting and her unfamiliarity with the urban by letting us predict the challenges Lutie Johnson will soon face there. Petry is able to create images in our head in order to show Lutie Johnson in the urban setting; you are able to feel the cold, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Formula And Percent Water Of Hydrated Magnesium Sulfate Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to determine both the formula and percent water of hydrated magnesium sulfate. Background: According to George B. Kauffman of Britannica, a hydrate is any compound containing water in the form of H2O molecules, usually, but not always, with a definite content of water by weight. Within this, there are two aspects of the compound; the water of hydration and the anhydrous salt. When a hydrate is heated, the water of hydration leaves the compound as vapor due to the unsteady bonds between the water and salt molecules. The anhydrous salt ends up becoming the only piece that is leftover. From the two, the percent water in a hydrate and the mass of the salt can be determined from the loss of the water of hydration. As a result, the formula of the compound can be found because the masses of the salt and the water can be used to determine the mole ratio, which are both small, whole numbers. Materials: Gas burner Ring stand and ring Triangle made from clay Crucible + lid Crucible tongs Wire pad Balance scale Spatula Hydrated magnesium sulfate Procedure: Assemble the ring and ring stand atop a flat surface. Place the clay triangle in the center of the ring. Lastly, bring the crucible with its lid into the clay triangle, so that it is hanging. Turn on the gas burner and bring it a low heat, only to the point that there is a blue flame. Carefully push the gas burner under the crucible and heat for around two minutes in order to properly ... John Pitney s Steel Pier History The Showplace of the Nation! and The Pier: A Legacy of Fun and Entertainment for the Entire Family have been a few of the glowing terms used to describe the amusement park, Steel Pier, located Atlantic City, NJ. The Pier first opened it s now legendary fun and entertainment venue in June of 1898 and soon become one of the most famously known theme parks and attractions in America, entertaining tens of thousands of visitors daily. Sprawling 1,600 feet into the ocean, The Pier was constructed from wood and steel. With a little stretch of the imagination, one may well yet hear the sunbleached boards creak and groan beneath the footsteps of enraptured crowds while the sounds of seagulls pierced the rolling ocean waves melodies. Dr. Jonathan Pitney, was the man we may credit with the transformation of The Pier into an amusement park, with the belief that the location could be a successful entertainment destination. Oh yes, make no doubt, history was made in the name of Steel Pier! The Pier attracted many acting icons throughout the decades of the 1920 s into the 1960 s. Through the portal from everyday life into hours of entertainment, came acting legends and unbelievable entertainers to include, if you can believe it, The Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, George Burns, Dean Martin, Milton Berle, George Burns, Three Stooges, old blue eyes Frank Sinatra, Mae West, Abbott and Costello, Dick Clark, Paul Anka, Annette Funicello, Guy Lombardo, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey and the list rolls on and on like a merry go round of endless legends. • 5. The Land Ethic By Aldo Leopold Essay Question 1 The Land Ethic written by Aldo Leopold was critiqued by J. Baird Callicott. The Land Ethic in short explained the idea that humans are not superior to animals or species on earth, but humans should live on earth as simple members. (Leopold, 2013) Callicott found three things that lead to the confusion, contempt, and contempt of Leopold s writings. The first thing that Callicott discussed in reference to the neglect of Leopold s writings was the fact that they could actually be done in a phrase or even one or two sentences. Leopold generalizes Darwin s writings and the extended paradigm. Leopold states that all ethic s so far evolved rest upon a single premise: that the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts (Leopold, 2013). Callicott explains that this basic phrase comes up again in The Land Ethic multiple times. This theory provides a link of the community concept that all plants, animals, and birds are interconnected with earth other. (Callicott, 2012) The second thing that Callicott discussed is that Leopold departs from contemporary philosophical ethics paradigms and patterns. The Land Ethic follows the paradigm that was constructed by Charles Elton, but the fact is that the writings follow more in line with that of F. E. Clements and S.A. Forbes paradigm. Leopold states that there are the same repeated paradoxes, man versus the biotic citizen, land the slave versus the collective organism. The focus on death and health of ... Monologue Of Mrs Light In stark contrast, to Roderick s recklessness towards Christina, James shows Mrs Light s ardent devotion towards her daughter, whom she once regarded as, a very ugly baby; for the first two years I could hardly bear to look at her... (208), and such dedication is the direct result of a religious revelation that, in fact, Christina is profoundly beautiful. Mrs Light s about face concerning Christina s prettiness, she conveys to Rowland as a mythological tale in which she sees a little girl of four or five, very fantastically dressed (208) whom she is taken aback by the child s beauty and wishes if my poor Christina were only like that! This helplessness is apparent by his emotional outburst to her astute comments: thus proving her point that he is weak. While the couple talk, Rowland observes them in secret and hears the twosomes discuss among other things Roderick s fiancée, Miss Garland. Again, Christina strikes a nerve concerning Roderick s treatment of his fiancée, I believe that, really, you don t greatly care for your friend in America... (216), and what she says next is the trait of someone who is perceptive in judging the moral conduct of others, any more than you do for me. You are one of the men who care only for themselves and for what they can make of themselves. (216) Miss Light s statement seems hypocritical as she too is self absorbed, nevertheless, her awareness of this fault in Roderick and even herself alerts the reader to the possibility she cares enough for the artist in order for him to leave her with some semblance of dignity. At any rate, Roderick tries to disprove her theory that he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poem is called Saddest Poem written by Pablo Neruda who is as I understood one of the most famous Latinos poet. This poem was translated to English, even though it didn t lose its original structure. No one can argue about the main idea of this poem that it s a sad poem and we can clearly see that from the title. Neruda uses many of the poetry techniques to complete a perfect picture ending with this poem. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of The Sandwich Generation In many families in our society today, the parents are a part of the sandwich generation and now are raising kids that are growing up to take part in the boomerang generation. The sandwich generation makes up of people who are in their thirties or forties that are trying to raise their own children while looking after their elderly parents. On the other hand, the boomerang generation consists of young adults who graduate high school and college to only come back and live with their parent and rely on their support. As a result of this, there comes many challenges for both the parents and the child since the sandwich generation is stuck in the conflicting nature of taking care of their elderly parents while providing for their children by meeting their needs of emotional love and providing tangible needs. However, many realize that their kids are entering into adulthood and now these parents face the challenge of pushing their children to be independent and take on responsibility while trying to secure a stable retirement. Not only that, but many parents are postponing their retirement because they are helping their young adult children with their debts, studies or their housing. This can be very costly for the parents since they oftentimes have to worry about their own future and the costly expenses that come with retirement, and to provide for their kids who are currently relying on their support. This situation is even worse if the parents are a part of the sandwich ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Morte D Arthur Code Of Chivalry A Knight s Honor: An Analysis of Chivalry Throughout history, people of certain cultures base their lives off special rules, or codes. The Anglo Saxons took examples from the epic hero of Beowulf. Knights during King Arthur s rule lasted by the code of Chivalry. Lessons from this honorable code can be extracted from the text of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, as well as from Morte D Arthur. Each of these memorable pieces of literature show examples of the code of chivalry. The three aspects of chivalry are courage, honor, and self control. To begin, the first form of chivalry can be clearly found in both texts and portrays courage. Kings would knight men in return for their promise of courage, honor and respect from the generous man. Courage is first found in The Green Night when an audacious man named Gawain steps in to accept the challenge demonstrated from the Green Knight himself. Toward the king doth now incline: I beseech, before all here, That this melee may be mine. Gawain demonstrates chivalry by displaying the courage to accept a fatal challenge. Heroism is also presented in the text of Morte D Arthur. This scrap of literature tells about the closing moments of the glorious King Arthur. Even in his deathly state, Arthur shows the quality of bravery by battling for his kingdom after the brutal battle that left all but four men dead. Now, tide me death, tide me life, ... now I see him yonder alone, he shall never escape mine hands. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Advantages Of Olefins Olefins are usually produced in large quantities in the petrochemical industry. The separation of olefins from paraffins is of primary importance to the chemical industry. Olefin/paraffin mixture is difficult to separate due to their similar physical and chemical properties such as molecular sizes and boiling point. The most common method for olefin/paraffin separation in the industry is the distillation process, commonly known as cryogenic distillation which is considered as one of the most energy intensive processes in the oil and gas industry [1]. Due to the high costs and energy consuming associated with this distillation an alternative methods need to be used. Silver salts have been used as a separation facilitator since 1944. Hollow fiber membrane contactors have been considered as an alternative mean for gas/ liquid separation which have many advantages over conventional direct gas/ liquid techniques such as spray towers and packed/tray columns [6]. • 17. Cyanide Reaction Lab Report I. INTRODUCTION Cyanide is a chemical compound containing cyano (─C≡N) groups, comprising carbon and nitrogen radicals, and can be found in various organic and inorganic compounds. Some inorganic cyanide compounds such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) and potassium cyanide (KCN) are groups of compounds having negatively charged polyatomic cyanide ions (CN ). This compound is a salt of a highly toxic hydrocyanic acid. Several types of organic cyanides are usually called nitriles, in which the CN group is covalently bonded to a carbon group, such as methyl (CH3) dimethyl cyanide (acetonitrile). Since nitrile compounds do not release free cyanide ions, they are generally less toxic, or in the case of insoluble polymers such as acrylic fibers, essentially ... Nickel in the nickel (II) state is more stable than nickel (0), nickel (I), nickel (III) and nickel (IV). Nickel (I) and nickel (0) are unstable because they are easily oxidized, nickel (III) is easily reduced to nickel (II) and nickel (IV) is rare. Nickel (II) forms a large number of complexes with coordination numbers 6, 5, and 4, which have all major types of structures, namely octahedral, bipiramidal trigonal, pyramidal squares, tetrahedral, and square (Cotton and Wilkinson, 2009). Most nickel complexes adopt octahedron geometry structures, adopt only slightly the geometry of tetrahedron and square. A nickel (II) complex with a strong ligand capable of performing better electron donations, tends to prefer a square structure rather than an octahedral. The commonly known nickel (II) complex compound is a tetracanonic acid (II) ([Ni(CN)4)]2 ) diamagnetic ion. The square structure can occur because one d orbitals, one s orbital and two p orbitals undergo dsp2 hybridization. • 18. Comparing The Seafarer And Wife s Lament The Exeter poems are a compilation of poems and stories written in Old English, from the Anglo Saxons. Three of these poems have gained special notoriety: The Seafarer , The Wanderer , and Wife s Lament . Each of these poems have a bleak tone to them, and they speak of wandering and loss, whether it s an emotional or physical loss. Both of the speakers in The Seafarer and The Wanderer feel emotional loss and sadness while at sea, but believe that by being faithful and continuing on their earthly journey, they will, in the end, achieve true happiness. The wife in Wife s Lament has suffered the physical loss of her husband, and the loss of acceptance in her community, but unlike the previous two poems, she does not seem to think she can achieve happiness. The speaker in The Wanderer is scarcely different. He is also at sea due to exile, and he blames his suffering on the loneliness and rejection he feels from kinsmen. When the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 less than eight percent of the African American population lived in the northeastern or Midwestern U.S. As described, Between 1910 and 1930, the African American population grew by about 40% in Northern states, mostly in the major cities. Cities such as Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Cleveland had some of the biggest increases in the early part of the century. Because changes were concentrated in cities, urban tensions rose as African Americans and new or recent European immigrants, both groups chiefly from rural societies, competed for jobs and housing with the white ethnic working class. Tensions were often most severe between ethnic Irish, defending their positions, and recent immigrants and blacks. African Americans moved as individuals or small family groups. There was no government assistance, but often northern industries, such as the railroads, meatpacking and stockyards, recruited people. The primary factor for migration was the racial climate and widespread violence of lynching in the South. • 21. The Importance Of Species Diversity Introduction A key component of any ecosystem on Earth is the presence of plants. Within these plants, variation and diversity are abundant. Plants can vary in many characteristics, such as leaf structure, height, bark structure, and diameter at breast height. The culmination of this variety among plants is termed the biodiversity of plants, which encompasses three realms: species diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Species diversity pertains to the variety of species in a specific ecosystem. Genetic diversity refers to variation in specific traits among individuals of the same species. Finally, ecosystem diversity refers to the variation of ecosystems in a specific area. For purposes of this study, we will only focus on species diversity. Studying species diversity of plants entails measuring the amount and size of different species in a given area. The importance of this type of study stretches far beyond observation and results. Species diversity among plants in an ecosystem is vital to the sustainability of that ecosystem. An ecosystem with greater species diversity uses its resources more efficiently, making it more productive. In addition, greater plant diversity leads to greater community biomass due to reduced nutrient loss and increased carbon reserves (Tilman and Lehman, 1997). Our study primarily focuses on the species diversity of trees at the Case Western Reserve University farm. More specifically, the area of interest is the wooded area to ... • 23. Summary Of Le Guin s The Child And The Shadow In 1975, fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin delivered a lecture discussing a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale she remembered from childhood. In this story, a man burdened by cowardice could not gather the courage to visit the house of the pretty woman that lived across the street. His shadow; his dark desires and guilty pleasures, wanted the man to go across the street. Yet, the man did not want to for he was afraid, this fear caused him to tell the shadow to leave. Thus, the shadow left. The shadow goes on to explore the house of the pretty woman, and accordingly strays unaccompanied and unattended through the world. Years later, the man and the shadow reconnect. The man discovers that his actions have now caused his shadow to become his master , and missing that part of himself, the man is executed. Le Guin uses this dark tale in combination with Jungian psychology and Daoism philosophy to illustrate that a person and their shadow must interact and coexist with each other to survive. Without this balance, life will be impossible. Throughout The Child and the Shadow , Le Guin makes eloquent points about the importance of a person s shadow, Carl Jung s archetypes in relation to the shadow, and how fantasy novels help children adapt to the traumatic events of reality. In Hans Christian Andersen s fairy tale, the man is executed. The man had rid himself of his shadow, attempting to hide the flaws that were lurking inside. Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument In the following paper, I will outline Samuel Clarke s Modern Formulation of the Cosmological Argument and restate some of the points that he makes. Samuel Clarke s argument for the existence of God states that There has existed from eternity some one unchangeable and independent being (37). The argument follows a logical flow and can be better understood when the structure is laid out and the argument reconstructed. Clarke begins his argument with a use of disjunctive syllogism, a form of valid logical reasoning that proposes two outcomes, denies one, and thus proves the other to be true. Clarke s premise states that one of the two following statements must be true: either there has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states that since the series of dependent beings couldn t be caused by any external or internal source, that it would have to be cause absolutely by nothing . He then states that this is a contradiction to be done in time; and because duration in this case makes no difference. He also states that it is a contradiction to suppose it done from eternity. Since the universe has parts that come into existence at one occasion and not another, it must have a cause. There could supposedly be an infinite regress of causes if there was evidence for such, but lacking such evidence, God must exist as the cause. Clarke does not specifically identify God at any point in his argument. He ends with There must be on the contrary, of necessity have existed from eternity, some one immutable and independent Being (37). Whatever one chooses to call this Being , it is the one unchangeable and independent being that Clarke attempts to prove the existence of in his argument. Our findings suggest that all the rationales described by accounting choice theory (information asymmetry, contractual efficiency and managerial opportunism) drive the decision to adopt fair value. Indeed, regarding contractual efficiency reasons in particular, we find that the larger the size (proxy of political costs), the less likely fair value is to be chosen, while leverage and consequent lenders protection seems to be insignificant for the choice. Furthermore, our results show that market to book ratio (MTBV) (proxy of information asymmetry) is negatively related to the fair value choice. This finding, that conflicts with existing literature, could be accounted for in the real estate industry due to the fact that high levels of MTBV in this context reveal growth opportunities associated with a fair estimation of investment properties and therefore with a low information asymmetry. Managerial opportunism behaviour, measured by a dummy variable for earnings smoothing, seems to have an influence on fair value choice. While all these variables seem to have an influence on the fair value choice, the same variables do not explain the choice of historical cost with the IFRS1 revaluation option in preference to the cost maintenance approach. All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland. The movement was strongly linked to church and had the motto For God, Home and Humanity. The WCTU had previously been involved in a temperance movement and this was one of the main reasons they decided to campaign for the vote. According to Wood social climate had the greatest effect on mobilising women into a combined effort to rid themselves of laws that discriminated against them. Drunkenness and crime were two major reasons why women made the move to throw off the shackles that prevented their recognition as equals with men. The vote became imperative if the lot of women and children were to improve. The women s vote did have many purposes, but improving the low moral level of society at that time was easily the most important. Many believed that female franchise would lead to the purification of New Zealand society and the Christianisation of politics. It was believed that women had a stronger, nobler vision for a pure society which would lead to higher levels of sobriety and morality in New Zealand. The suffragists promoted the vote as a way that women could have social control over undesirable elements in the population. Moreover, at that time soldiers thought that after the fall of the Tsar the war would be over, but with that as well the Provisional Government decided to wait until the Constituent Assembly had been elected. This lead to mass desertions from the trenches and the front. The situation was only improved with Order no. 1 by the Soviet as they took control over the army and created a democratized army that has been criticized by being too weak, but at that time it did settle the soldiers for a while. Furthermore, it gained stronger support from the soldiers to the Soviet power. With the peasantry the Bolsheviks did use the chaos in the countryside for their gain, but other than that they were not a peasant party nor did they think this was the right moment to interact with them. Trotsky believed that Bolsheviks used the peasant situation, but only the workers could win the revolution and only after seizing power could an agrarian reformation be worked into the Bolshevik plan, thus winning over the peasants later. Also, the party leaders were not that closely related to the workers and they certainly were not close to the peasants, none of the leaders understood the peasants and most did not deem them important to the revolutionary ... The starting point of the Space Race was the launch of Sputnik 1 by the Soviet Union. The Space Race has impacted society greatly politcally, socially, and economically. The Space Race was a very tense period of time in history because both the United States and Soviet Union improved their technology to such a degree that the two countries have both made it to space multiple times. The Space Race has impacted the political, social, and economic aspects of the US society greatly. It mainly affected the political aspect. A way that the lead of the Soviet Union in the Space Race affected the US Society is the Vanguard rocket was prepared for launch at Cape Canaveral. On December 6/1957, the slender, delicate instrument was fired, began to rise, and then sank back down on itself, crushing its engines and erupting into a huge fireball. The pathetic collapse was carried live on television, right in front of the world. This was what we were capable of, while the Russians rode the heavens (from Document F). Another reason why the US was very shocked is because that it took them four years to catch up to our atomic bomb and nine months to catch up to our hydrogen bomb. Even though this gives Comcast Business a framework for the launch of the Smart Office product, there are still risks to take into account before the launch of this new project. Anticipated/possible risks include: 1. Potential Bottleneck due to lead time with Camera Orders a. This is the first time Comcast Business has worked with Axis, our video camera supplier. To stay lean Comcast will be ordering only what is needed for pending orders. If demand is high, customers may have to endure long wait times for installation because of camera inventory at the local Comcast warehouse/Technician dispatch center. 2. Inability to measure demand in new markets a. Comcast has only trialed this product in select Northeastern US states. Demand is currently unknown in other regions. Competition is low, but this does not necessarily present and opportunity for high demand. 3. Potentially being forced to use 3rd Party install technicians a. For standard internet or phone installations, Comcast will sometimes utilize contractors to complete the work. This is usually when order volume is high, as we do not have enough technicians to complete all orders in a timely manner. • 42. Congenital Left Ventricular Outpouching ( Lvo ) Introduction: Congenital left ventricular outpouching (LVO) is a rare disorder in which a confined protrusion arises from the left ventricular (LV) free wall. The terms LV aneurysm, LV diverticulum, double chambered LV and LV accessory chamber have been used interchangeably in the literature [1 9], however anatomical differences do exist between these terms [10]. LV aneurysm is an expansible thin walled, usually fibrotic myocardium and pericardium, pouch contracting in asynchrony with the LV and has a wide communication with the LV cavity. Conversely, an LV diverticulum has three cardiac wall layers (endocardium, myocardium and pericardium), contracts in synchrony with the LV and has a narrow connection to LV. LV accessory chamber presents an entity that combines some criteria of both aneurysm and diverticulum. Its wall is similar to a diverticulum but it has a wide communication with the LV as an aneurysm. Lastly, double chambered left ventricle displays a combination of the above mentioned characteristics. A novel classification was recently introduced by Rad et al [11], which depends mainly on the LV geometry and proposes a type dependent outcome prediction. According to this classification, the LVO is termed double chamber left ventricle if the LV maintains the elliptical cavity shape. If the LV shape is distorted, LVO is classified into LVO type I when the outpouching has normal wall motion and thickness, type IIa when wall thickness is decreased, type IIb when ... • 43. Importance Of Depository Receipt Is A Negotiable... INTRODUCTION The past few decades have witnessed the increased internationalization of various firms through cross listings on international exchanges. This has been facilitated by market liberalisation, which has led to greater integration of global securities markets. Cross border listing has become one of the avenues for the integration of global securities markets. There are two forms of cross border listing, namely, direct listing and indirect listing. Direct listing implies that the firm concerned offers ordinary shares to the public. Indirect listing on exchanges is through Depository Receipts (DRs). Depository receipt is a negotiable certificate issued by a bank in a domestic country that represent ownership of shares in companies of other countries. Cross listing, particularly through DRs such as American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) or Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs), is a popular way of internationalisation among firms from emerging economies. In addition to Europe and America, International firms are allowed to cross list in other countries through the DR programme. There could be several reasons for a domestic company to cross list, such as an expanding investor base, the desire to improve stock liquidity through its highly liquid secondary market, the increasing visibility of the company, a growing customer base, and the wish to take advantage of higher valuations.
