Over the course of both my undergraduate and master s programs in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution,
and Peacebuilding (NCRP), I have wanted to further study the concept of Restorative Justice. Though

Weeping In St. Augustine s Confessions
Weeping is a part of the human condition, and Saint Augustine conveys this through scenes of
lamentation by Monica and himself in his book, Confessions. Although the various episodes of
weeping have similarities, they are unique because they each convey diverse ideas. Monica, Saint
Augustine s mother, weeps when he leaves the Catholic faith, conveying that praying while crying can
be powerful. She also cries when her son leaves for Rome, illustrating the struggle to balance material
and spiritual wealth. Saint Augustine weeps at the loss of his mother, which conveys the hardships
involved with the loss of loved ones. He also weeps at the death of his companion, which illuminates
his care for the material world.
These weeping scenes all convey how crying is a human sensation caused by suffering. Monica wept
for [Augustine] before [God] more than mothers weep when lamenting their dead children once
Augustine announced his lack of faith in Catholicism (Conf. 3.19). She wept because of the lack of
spiritual guidance her son was receiving from God. Monica used this mortal emotion in an attempt to
get God to listen to her and grant her prayer, which was to see her son follow Catholicism. Monica
also wept and lamented when Augustine left for Rome by deceiving her (Conf. 3.15). She was
suffering because she loved to have [Augustine] with her and Augustine left her in Carthage. Again,
this act of weeping illustrates a mortal suffering created by physical or spiritual loss.

In general, what do you consider some of your personal strengths? Of what interpersonal
skills/abilities are you proud? A personal strength of mine is collaborating well with others. Also,
when engaging with another individual, I am able to have patience as well as be an attentive listener.
These qualities are important in the field of OT because teamwork is the best approach. Finding the
answers to the problems is not going to be independently based all the time. Colleagues help each
other out by combining unique ideas in order to come up with the best possible solution. While
working with the patient, it is important to have the skill of being a good listener because hearing why
they are there and what they are struggling with is necessary for assessing the situation in order to help
him/her in the best way. Also, a patient is not going to be completely cured after one session of OT, so
possessing patience throughout the entire process is a key factor that all OT s should work towards.
What areas do you feel you need to address or need to improve in order to become more adept in the
area of professionalism and being the best occupational therapy student? One area that I strive to make

Friday Night, Hip Hop Legends DMX, N.O.R.E, Jadakiss, and Jim Jones proved that New York
rappers can all share the stage and manage to get along. The Apollo Theatre featured some of New
