Memory Recollection
Neuroscience has been a foundational topic and one that is interesting to explore. We as human beings
are so complicated that we can t really tell why we are even conscious! In fact, there is a multitude of
research on how the brain is neurologically connected to mind and behavior. As someone who
preserves about seven hours of sleep, I feel that sleep is vital for living organisms to function in their
daily activities. However, I stumbled upon an article that discusses the importance of taking a rest.
While people have the impression that sleep will attribute to a healthier mind and body, many wouldn
t recognize the importance of rest in conjunction of storing information. In fact, resting for a few
minutes can improve memory recollection rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article doesn t go into depth the details of the research, but I believe in a connection between
relaxation and performance. In our world, people who are stressed with anxiety normally don t
perform as well as people who don t feel tension. Moreover, the article talks about overstimulation of
the brain and how that could cause memory problems. Regardless, I am not too worried about the
abstraction of neurons, but I am more refined in seeing that there are experimental studies that proved
the very relationship of rest and memory. For example, Michaela Deware, a principle investigator at
the Heriot Watt University, led an experiment in 2012. Her team investigated the results between those
who had a ten minute rest and those who didn t. The team found out that in comparison to those who
haven t, people who took the ten minute rest remembered ten percent more on a story they heard last
week. These volunteers who took the initiative to sleep were placed in an empty, quiet room that was
free from distractions. After a refinery on the matter of sleep, what surprised me most about the article
is that resting could actually help insomniacs or people diagnosed with amnesia; they ll be able to
relax and retain memory a lot more

Ancient Greece s Influence On The Roman Empire
Despite being fierce rivals on the battlefield, Greece had a great impact on many of the aspects that
made Rome such a strong and beautiful empire. Conflict between the two powers [Greece and Rome]
arose in the 3rd century as Roman expansion in South Italy and Sicily encroached on Greek colonies
located there ( Greece and Rome ). Agelaos of Naupaktos... spoke of the urgent need for peace, stating
that for if the cloud rising in the west should reach Greece, we shall be praying heaven to give us back
the chance to call our very quarrels our own ( Greece, History of 2: 111 128). Peace was never
reached; Greece and Rome continued to fight over territory until the official end of Greek civilization
in 146 B.C. with their defeat at Corinth ( Greece, History of 2: 111 128). Despite this defeat, their
constant contact with Roman civilization over hundreds of years ensured their civilization would
never truly die. As the Greeks and Romans exchanged land, goods, and ideas with each other, many of
the most important parts of Greek civilization become a part of Rome s identity as well. The aesthetics
of Greece, specifically the art, architecture, and literature, may have had the most significant influence
of all on Roman culture. Ancient Greece greatly impacted the aesthetics of the Roman Empire.
Roman sculptors and artists, borrowing upon the techniques of the Greeks, became masters of their
craft. The Romans captured prized items while fighting against the Greeks. Much of the

Paul Cézanne
Another artist of the Impressionism era that was impacted by the great wave of Japanese artwork was
Paul Cézanne. In Cézanne s case, his relationship with Japanese art forms was vague in comparison to
the other Impressionists. He was not an avid collector of Japanese prints such as Degas, nor was he
privy to the fascination with these unique objects. Cézanne was an artist who admired Puget and
Michelangelo for their sculptural volume: he was temperamentally incapable of adopting Japanese
prints as his ideal, (Berger 112). Studies have shown that Cézanne paid closer attention to what was
going on in the art world than his counterparts, therefore, it is hard to determine how Cézanne could
have possibly overlooked Japanese art (Berger 113). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of new pictorial motifs, and Japanese art showed him the possibility of what may be called free scale ,

recombinable, as elements of the formal design, (Berger 114). Katsushika Hokusai s Mount Fuji in a

Franz Lieber and the Lieber Code
Franz Lieber and the Lieber Code In the midst of the deadliest war in American History, there stood a
voice of morality and reason on the United States soil. Franz Lieber, a German political philosopher,
created a series of political works in which he explained the importance of defining ethical boundaries
for soldiers in times of war. In 1863, President Lincoln commissioned Lieber to create a series of laws
to reflect his ideas ( Francis Lieber, 2013). Lieber went on to create what became known as Lieber s
code, which was history s first attempt to distill, formalize, and systematize various general concepts
that international law, at the time, considered proper restraints for the combatants towards each other
and towards civilians (Forbes, 1985). But what effect did the code have on the Civil War and the
preceding time period? Created at an important juncture in history, Lieber s code not only had a
profound effect on the views of controversies during the Civil War, but also influenced the way the
world viewed the ethical obligations of military personnel during times of war. Civil War Prisons
Throughout the Civil War, prisoners of war were abundant and thus a popular topic of debate. This
likely influenced Lieber s ideas as to what was important to include in the code, leading to much of
Lieber s code entailing the treatment and exchange of prisoners of war. Early in the war prisoners
received equal treatment from both sides. However the lack of a systematic programs

The Importance Of Housing In The United States
I returned from my deployment to Afghanistan tan, lean, and anxious about the impending nuptials a
few weeks away. During the intervening time, I looked for a house that my wife and I could call
home, our own expression of the American dream. I found a brick ranch in a neighborhood that had
been built right after World War II probably to house a family in a very similar situation to my own. I
was able to purchase the house thanks to a zero down loan from a local bank, guaranteed by the
Veterans Administration. My situation was not a unusual one, but rather an echo of the development of
suburbia. The United States was suffering from a severe housing shortage in the 1930 s and despite
their best construction efforts, faced a worsening crisis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before these loan programs, buyers needed a 30% down payment, but the FHA loans could be made
with a 10% down payment. The structure of the FHA and VA loan programs reduced the
administrative costs associated with loan origination by 15 percent and lowered the interest rate by
two or three percentage points. By increasing the amount of leverage people could deploy to buy a
house, the FHA made purchasing a home a possibility for people who used to rent, with one person
noting that they, ...had been paying $50 per month rent, and here we come up and live for $29 a
month. This motivated people who were renting in the city to move out into the suburbs where they
could buy their own home, contributing to the white middle class flight from the city. FHA loans for
repairing a home had worse terms than buying a new home, which incentivized people to purchase a
new dwelling rather than repair their current one. The Veterans Administration and Federal Housing
Administration loan programs allowed for a large portion of the American people to shift from long
term renters to potential home owners, which provided a ready pool of buyers for new home

Essay on The Power of Women in Richard III
The Power of Women in Richard III
In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of King Richard the Third, the historical context of the play is
dominated by male figures. As a result, women are relegated to an inferior role. However, they
achieve verbal power through their own discourse of religion and superstition. In the opening speech
of Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 1 30 Lady Anne orients the reader to the crucial political context of the play
and the metaphysical issues contained within it (Greenblatt, 509). Lady Anne curses her foes, using
strong language to indicate her authority. She speaks in blank verse, by which she utilizes imagery to
emphasize her emotions and reinforce her pleas. Her speech clearly illustrates the distinction between

It is significant that her glowing, positive praise of the King is produced with the religious language of
holiness and honor which gives her power.
In addition to mourning the death of the King, she laments the fall of the House of Lancaster. The
dispute between the house of York and the house of Lancaster is the crucial background of the tragedy.
She asserts the right of the Lancaster dynasty rule in her statement: Th untimely fall of virtuous
Lancaster, / Thou bloodless remnant of that royal blood (1:2:6 7). Taken literally, the ashes, and the
bloodless King relate to a funeral pyre and the white skin tone of death. However the pale ashes, can
also be interpreted as the white rose which represents the King. A bloodless rose is also the white rose
of the King s shield. This division and conflict between the white rose and the red rose are outside the
sphere of Lady Anne s control. The War of the Roses is a war in the sense that it is within the male
sphere and she is unable to change the unhappy result of the dispute which results in the death of her
husband and father in law.
By addressing the ghost of the King, Lady Anne introduces the supernatural. At line 5 she turns from
the pallbearers to address the lifeless form of the King. She describes the figure of the king as key cold
(1:2:5) associating the imagery of the cold metal with the chill of death. Having

Gabriel by George Sand, translated by Gay Smith and directed by Rebecca MaxField was performed
at the AS220 Head Trick Theatre Saturday, December 15 at 9:00 pm. Art is about the obscurity of
modern art. In George Sand s Play, Gabriel raises many unsolved questions.
In the opening scene, Gabriel is introduced as a Woman who has been raised and educated as a boy by
his teacher, Father Chaivari played by Amy Thompson. In the seventeenth century Italy. At the
opening play, Gabriel played by Christine Pavao has a dream in which she sees an archangel Gabriel

The play Gabriel in Sand s eyes concern gender instability. Throughout the play The tone and text

Low cost leadership means offer the lowest price to customers and operate the organization in the

from the Old Testament are two comparable stories. The impact both stories had on people all over the
world was tremendous. Both stories have had an influence on the way communities have changed
their oral traditions. Some people have debated if the two stories came from the same origin or they
are just similar in nature, not knowing which one could be true. These two tales changed how stories

Some similarities in the story are, the extent of the floods, which were both global; means of the flood
were both caused by heavy rain, but in Noah s story, groundwater was also included. Because of the
floods, both characters were ordered to build a boat, and on each boat there were many compartments
inside, but it only had one door. The passengers on the boat were family members, a few other people,
and all species of animals. On the boat, each character would send birds to find land; Noah used a
raven and three doves while Utnapishtim used a raven, a dove, and a swallow. When the birds finally
didn t come back, both arks landing spots were Mountains. For Noah, it was Mt. Ararat and for
Utnapishtim, it was Mt. Nisir. Both men were blessed after the floods. As for their characters, they
were both righteous even though they complained about the work they had to do(COMPARISONS).
Despite the similarities, there are some differences in the stories. The causes of the flood in Noah s
story was a man s wickedness and as for the Tale of Gilgamesh, it was a man s sins. The sender in the
book of Genesis was Yahweh and in Gilgamesh it was an assembly of Gods. Means of the
announcement each man got was different too; for Noah, it came direct from God, and for
Utnapishtim, it came in a dream. The biggest difference with the two stories are the duration that each
flood was. In the Book of Genesis, it

Throughout the entire film, the unknown audience follows along with the story of the Buena Vista
Social Club through a concert that Brian Davis would describe as a contact zone, which is a social
place where cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other (Davis 84). In this interaction the Buena
Vista Social Club serves as the center, while the audience serves as the periphery that is receiving
ideas, images, and materials from the center through the lyrics of the song and music being played by
the instruments (Davis 83). Most of the songs that Buena Vista Social Club perform are centered
around the day to day struggles and celebrations of the people of Havana, whether that be a city
dweller or a campesino. The performance by the group is thus an auditory landscape of the true
lifestyle of the Havana natives and it is inherently an exhibit to the outsider of the crumbled landscape
of 1950s Havana that was reconstructed through the Buena Vista Social Club musical project.

landscape of this contact zone by expressing their approval and the excitement brought about by the
performance of the music group through the cheers and applause that can be heard throughout the

Divine Command Theory On Abortion
The theological approach to understanding morality is best described with the Divine Command
Theory. According to Thiroux and Krasemann (2006), Divine Command Theory states that morality is
based not upon the consequences of actions or rules, nor upon self interest or other interestedness, but
rather upon something higher than these mere mundane events of the imperfect human or natural
worlds. In the context of pro life; morally speaking, it suggests that human life is a gift from a higher
power God. Additionally, it suggests that God defines human life taking on varying forms ranging
from that of an adult all the way to that consisting of a baby in the womb. Aligning with the principles
detailed in the Divine Command Theory, moral and ethical guidance to the child barer would suggest
that regardless of the severe health complications that would impact the overall health of the unborn
child, should the women successfully carry to term, it would be morally irresponsible to terminate the

Analysis Of Federalist 10 By James Madison
In Federalist 10 by James Madison, he addresses key issues like factions and democracy, all while
focusing on the usefulness of the Constitution and the necessity of a strong central government, to
defend his Federalist ideology. Personally, I agree with the foundation of his arguments, especially on
the topic of forms of government, as well as the role of representation in our government.
Madison s primary focus throughout the beginning of this paper is factions. He holds a deep disdain
for them as he thinks that they solely focus on themselves, while hurting other Americans, which is
evident in this quote, ( ...united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest,

No matter what the government or its people try to implement to disable factions, another will always
rise due to the nature of man. Destroying liberty is the most heinous crime imaginable for Madison
and I agree, every citizen having their liberty is what this country was founded on and it should
therefore be untouchable. Madison s idea of giving every citizen the same ideals and interests is
blatant sarcasm to illustrate how factions are unpreventable and simply part of human nature. No
matter what you may do to try and prevent it, there will always be new movements and ideas that
people rally behind and their freedom to do that is part of what makes America special.
Another focus of Federalist 10 is the purpose of having a republican government, which is personally
the issue raised in Federalist 10 that resonates the most with me. One of the main benefits of a
republic in a large government per Madison, is the lack of power given to factions. In a large and
diverse republic, there are large amounts of factions across the country, however, they have little
power or influence. While in a direct democracy, there is a small amount of factions, but each faction

Napoleon Bonaparte Strengths
During the late 1700 s to mid 1800 s, the French Revolution became the spotlight of European
politics. After multiple political leaders, including the King himself, had been disposed of the French
people had grouped themselves into various political parties. France was in turmoil. Without a solid
leader to demand control of the country, the people led many revolts leading to a national depression.
Growing up during this time of instability, the popular general Napoleon Buonaparte, knew what his
country needed to come back to power. During the next couple of decades, Napoleon spent his life
building his empire by taking control militarily, politically, and religiously. In return he became the
most powerful leader of his time.

The relationship between the Catholic Church and the state deeply concerned the Emperor. He
understood that only the Catholic religion stirred the emotions of the people, could effectively mend
the religious divisions of the revolution, provide a basis for morality, and support the authority of the
new Consular regime. In 1801, Napoleon signed the Concordat with Pope Pius VII. It recognized
Catholicism as the main religion of France, but at the same time gave religious freedom to those who
were not Catholic. In many articles in the Concordat, you see where the State has preference over the
Church. In Article Six, it calls for bishops to take an oath to the First Consul, and in Article Eight, a
prayer to the Republic will be repeated at the end of divine office. Napoleon is able to have control
over the Catholic Church without committing himself or any of his subjects to any certain religion. On
December 2, 1804, Napoleon used the Concordat to his advantage when consecrating himself the new
emperor. Napoleon I s coronation did not include the traditional sacramental rites of other imperial or
royal coronations, which meaningfully indicated a decrease in the papal role in consecrating the new

Innovations of Employee Benefits Essays
The succeeding paragraphs will explain how innovations in employee benefits can improve the overall
competitive compensation strategy of the organization. In order to maintain their competitive edge,
companies need to fully understand that as the needs of their employee s change, so does their benefit
plans. Companies need to find innovative ways of engaging employees that encourage and support
their commitment and improve their performance.
The first way is by helping the company to attract and retain talent. A company is only as good as its
workforce so having an innovative benefit plan will help to attract high potential candidates and also
retain them within the organization. McKeown, J. (2002) states that, Effective retention begins ...

The third way is to help the company to increase productivity. Employees can tend to lose focus on
their work when they are having issues with their personal life. An innovative benefit plan can afford
employees with the flexibility to handle these issues in order to give the employees more availability
to concentrate on their work. This also causes employees to believe that their company cares for their
overall wellbeing, creating loyalty amongst the employees which will in addition increases overall
productivity, but retention as well.
The fourth way is to help the company increase employee commitment and engagement. In addition to
increasing productivity, companies want to ensure that their employees are committed and engaged to
the organization. This will produce employees that put more effort and take pride even in the smallest
of tasks, employees that are constantly thinking of ways to better improve their productivity, and
employees that motivate and inspire other employees that may have a negative attitude about the
organization.
The fifth way is to help the company to reduce health care costs. The lack of control and employee has
over their own job has been believed to lead to serious health conditions. Employers are coming to the
realization that in order to get a handle on health care issues, they need to take a more active

possessor of the project. The owner is totally accountable for the financing of the project, prior to,

A Framework For The Data Collection And Its Analysis Essay
. A framework for the data collection and its analysis has been recognised in order to answer the
research questions, as well as to achieve the targeted objectives by validating certain methods of
sourcing, collecting and analysing the data (Saunders Thornhill, 2012).
The study on the basis of the literature has shown that the research goals would be achieved more
efficiently with the quantitative method. Whereas, the literature reviewed has revealed an objective
need for numeric data that is necessary in a greater extent due to its absence, rather than non numeric
data. The quantitative method allows to assess the influence of the identified factors by the end user,
which haspermitted to build a consumer behaviour model. Ultimately, the variables were identified on
the basis of the literature studied.
3.2 Research philosophy and approach
The aims and objectives were fulfilled in order to develop a research philosophy. We may define it as
an over arching term relating to the development of knowledge and the nature of that knowledge
(Saunders Thornhill, 2012).
A deductive approach has been used for the research. This was done due to the fact that the theoretical
framework has been defined in advanced, which was followed by testing the previously outlined
theories.(Saunders Thornhill, 2012)Additionally, Positivism has been selected as a Philosophy for the
following study, as it allowed the author to research and assess the situation on the basis of objective

A Brief Note On California s Water Crisis
The case study that I will be analyzing and responding to is a major environmental issue in many
areas, especially with the state of California. California s water crisis is a major issue that has brought
the attention to many people to try to fix the problem. With the Central Valley being the agricultural
capital of the world, the current drought issue that we are facing is not only historic, but also very
alarming for several reasons. With the current record breaking drought in California, there are three
factors that are said to be the reasons for causing the drought, which includes rising temperatures,
shortage of water from the Colorado River, and depletion in groundwater (Macdonald, 2015). With
rising temperatures over the years, the environmental changes that occur with this are an increase in
evaporation, which is taking water from reservoirs and other sources where irrigation is coming from.
With climate change with higher temperatures, this is taking away water that is needed to water the
many crops that produce vegetation that is distributed all across the United States. The threatening of
water supplies, especially here in the state of California is an issue that is very much real and is
something that should not be ignored. The second concern that comes with the water crisis in
California comes from the Colorado River water shortage. With the Colorado River being the greatest
source of water for all of Southern California, the source of water has declined

The Anti Roadway Carnage Bill
Dear Citizen, My gripe is with texting and driving. This is one of the most serious public health issues
of our time. I cannot for the life of me believe this practice has not yet been outlawed. Last year in the
United States, driver distraction was the cause of 16% of all fatal crashes, killing 5800 people. A
further 515,000 people were wounded as the result of distracted driving. The worst part is that up to
50% of teenagers the least experienced drivers on the road report texting and driving. We are teaching
the next generation to drive without teaching them about responsibility. Other states have already
passed laws, but our politicians are on record as saying they cannot ban something they do
themselves. How irresponsible! Thankfully, Senator Jim Duncan is proposing a bill that would outlaw
texting and driving. Please click here to sign a petition supporting Prop 733T, the Anti Roadway
Carnage Bill, and help keep our streets safe. Sincerely, Concerned Activist This persuasive memo is
designed to sell an idea, that texting and driving should be banned. The design put forth by Bowman
(2002) is the basis of the letter. The pacing of the letter is quick, with short sentences and simple ideas.
The reason for this is to generate an emotional response to help motivate the reader. The core of the
argument comes in the first two lines, so there is little time to for the reader to tune out. Bowman also

Segkugawa Shogunate Essay
During the Early Modern Era, from 1450 to 1750 CE, the Tokugawa Shogunate came to power in
Japan after the civil war. Meanwhile, the global spread of Christianity affected Asia as European
missionaries came to spread their faith among Asian countries, like how the Spanish missionaries
spread Christianity in the Philippines, causing it to be major outpost of Christianity in Asia. In Japan,
the era of sengoku lead to the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the consequences of the rise of the
Tokugawa Shogunate were the change in social position of ruling elites and the rise of the merchant

the civil war, lead to the creation of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Because of the war between the

Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning Model
Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning Model (Observational Learning) The term learning is defined by
the Oxford dictionary as the process of acquiring knowledge from reading and studying. This is a very
formal view on how we humans learn on a daily basis. However, Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning
Model proposes that learning may occur just by mere observation of one s surrounding. This process
of learning may be also referred to as informal learning. This way of learning has been in practice
since the beginning of our civilisation as a method to pass on the wisdom of the elders to the younger
generations in order to perform day to day tasks. Bandura on the other hand calls this form of learning
as Observational Learning. This theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this experiment, each child was brought into a room individually and asked to watch a clip of a
model displaying both physical and verbal aggression towards the Bobo doll. In the model rewarded
condition the model was awarded with sweets and soft drinks while in the model punished condition a
reinforcing model was brought in shaking his finger and giving comments such as If I catch you doing
that again... I ll give you a hard spanking. . The results showed that when let to go in the playroom,
children on the model punished condition showed less imitative aggression than the other groups.
However, if all children were given rewards for imitating the model, all groups showed a high level of
imitation. With this information Bandura then postulated that observational learning consists of four
aspects. Firstly, attention a process whereby people observe and gain certain information on the
behaviour or situation being observed. Secondly, retention which involves a process of transforming
and restructuring information in the form of rules and conceptions (Wood Bandura , 1989). Next,
reproduction where the individual reenacts the behaviour that was formerly observed. Finally,
motivation which is what the individual needs in order to repeat the behaviour in order to learn

products such as Hot Wheels and Polly Pocket. Mattel, for many years, had a great reputation and

As children grow their bodies are able to absorb more lead than an adult (Pearce Robinson, 25 5). At
the time of the recalls, China did not have regulations in place regarding the levels of lead in paint. In
addition to lead being found on paint used in children s toys, Mattel would eventually end up recalling
millions of products that contained unsafe, removable parts. In the end, Mattel ended up recalling 19
million toys made in China. There is a large cost advantage to doing business in China. Chinese
manufacturers are able to manufacture products at a cost that is 30% 50% less than in the United
States. The savings associated with foreign manufacturing is too much for most companies, including
Mattel, to pass up. Everyday more American jobs are outsourced to China because of their ability to
manufacture products for significantly less than in the United States. When it comes to manufacturing,
China has a comparative advantage, or the ability to produce a good at a lower opportunity cost than
another producer (Mankiw, Pg. 55). Not only have companies, such as Mattel, saved billions of dollars
over the years, so has the American consumer. It is estimated that, since 1978, consumers in the
United States have saved approximately $100 billion by obtaining cheaper products from China
(Ahlstrom Bruton, Pg. 4). It is no wonder jobs are continuously outsourced to other countries.
Financially speaking, it seems products manufactured in China benefit everyone, well

Julius Caesar And Brutus Tragic Hero Analysis
A tragic hero tries to do the right thing but has flaws in their character that prevents them from being a
true hero. Scholars argue over whether Brutus or Caesar is the tragic hero in the play Julius Caesar by
William Shakespeare. Both men have tragic flaws which cause their downfall. They are both
ambitious. Caesar wanted all the power to himself. On the contrary, Brutus wanted what was best for
Rome and to keep a good reputation. Brutus is the tragic hero of the play since he falls the farthest due
to the fact that he is too trusting of everyone, he naively allows his enemy to speak out about him, and
he lacks self confidence. To begin with, Brutus is too trusting of those around him. Brutus s friend
Cassius recognizes that Brutus is driven by what is best for Rome. Because of this Cassius devises a
plan to plant a fake petition from the people of Rome stating that Caesar needs to be executed. Brutus
never even questions that the petition is real. After reading the petition Brutus response is:
Am I entreated
To speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise,
If the redress will follow, thou receivest
Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus! (Shakespeare 2.1.55 58)
Brutus agrees to do whatever it takes to help Rome receive justice, even if it means to use violence
against his friend. Lastly, due to Brutus killing Caesar, war broke out in Rome. Brutus is creating more
chaos for Rome than Caesar is. He is naive and thinks he is doing what is best for Rome, but really
ends up hurting Rome. A true hero would have been sceptical about the petition before making
decisions about it. Since Brutus is too trusting he did not think twice about the petition which
ultimately, leads to his downfall. Another example of Brutus as the tragic hero is his naivety. He
foolishly allows his enemy to speak at Caesar s funeral. After Caesar s death the funeral is planned for
all of Rome to attend. Brutus allows Mark Antony, Caesar s right hand man, to speak at the funeral.
This allows Mark Antony to turn the crowd against Brutus. Mark Antony makes Brutus look like the
bad guy by saying: If Brutus so unkindly knocked, or no. For Brutus, as you know, was Caesar s
angel. Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him! This was

The Pros And Cons Of Incarceration
Imposing the deprivation of personal liberty legally is referred to as incarceration (National Research
Council, 2014). In doing so, a person is typically secured in a facility that is specially designed for that
purpose. Moreover, incarceration remains one of the most severe forms of punishment that our society
can impose (National Research Council, 2014). Usually, prison terms are reserved for those found
guilty of committing more serious crimes such as violent felonies.
Incarceration may be deemed justified as a means of preventing future crimes by incapacitating those
who would otherwise be committing crimes within a free society (National Research Council, 2014).
Moreover, incarceration can be used to otherwise deter or rehabilitate offenders who are punished
from committing future crimes (National Research Council, 2014). While incarcerated, prisons can
support an offender s need to rehabilitation so that following the offender s release, he/she is more
likely to live in a law abiding way and reintegrate successfully (National Research Council, 2014).
Overall, prisons effectiveness can be measured by an outcome that includes lower rates of recidivism
and higher rates an offender s positive standing within the community and his/her overall health and
well being (National Research Council, 2014).
Reentry initiatives resulted in the creation of teams that are structured to assist in managing the
process of transition from prisons and community reintegration,

Challenges of Religious Pluralism Essay
For centuries, religion in America has been more of a family affair. What this means is that despite the
different groupings, almost all major religions have been united under the same American experience.
Almost all the main religious denominations have been required to conform to the dictates of
Protestantism. Maybe this has been derived from the belief that almost all of these groupings have
been responsible for shaping America as we know it today. However, many things have happened in
the past few decades to change the way religions have been conducting themselves. One theme that
has overly changed over the years is that of pluralism. For many years, America has been a haven of
different groupings of people. The British immigration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This philosopher incorporated the grouping of Aristotle in to Christianity. According to this law, all
important human principles have a proper reason that is dictated by nature. An example of this is
sexual intercourse whose main goal is procreation. The church has repeatedly fought the use of
contraceptives as a means of family planning arguing that it contravenes Gods purpose of procreation.
To devout Catholics, this is a sign of immorality and should therefore be fought by all people of good
will. Influence from outside has caused scholars in the church to question such things as sexuality in
its different forms. This has called the church to realize, that society has changed and that there is need
for the church to change too. Another area where the Catholic Church has modified its activities to suit
European notions is on the issue of penance. Traditionally, the practice was administered on a very
personal basis. In the process of penitents, those seeking forgiveness, would kneel in a specially made
box known as the confessional. Usually, this box consisted of screens that divided the priest and the
penitent. This was meant to create an air of anonymity between the two. The priest would then order
the penitent to offer a set of prayer or observe other religious rituals for the forgiveness to take effect.
However, over the years, people have criticized this move as too impersonal. This practice has been
modified and today the practice

  • 2. Memory Recollection Neuroscience has been a foundational topic and one that is interesting to explore. We as human beings are so complicated that we can t really tell why we are even conscious! In fact, there is a multitude of research on how the brain is neurologically connected to mind and behavior. As someone who preserves about seven hours of sleep, I feel that sleep is vital for living organisms to function in their daily activities. However, I stumbled upon an article that discusses the importance of taking a rest. While people have the impression that sleep will attribute to a healthier mind and body, many wouldn t recognize the importance of rest in conjunction of storing information. In fact, resting for a few minutes can improve memory recollection rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article doesn t go into depth the details of the research, but I believe in a connection between relaxation and performance. In our world, people who are stressed with anxiety normally don t perform as well as people who don t feel tension. Moreover, the article talks about overstimulation of the brain and how that could cause memory problems. Regardless, I am not too worried about the abstraction of neurons, but I am more refined in seeing that there are experimental studies that proved the very relationship of rest and memory. For example, Michaela Deware, a principle investigator at the Heriot Watt University, led an experiment in 2012. Her team investigated the results between those who had a ten minute rest and those who didn t. The team found out that in comparison to those who haven t, people who took the ten minute rest remembered ten percent more on a story they heard last week. These volunteers who took the initiative to sleep were placed in an empty, quiet room that was free from distractions. After a refinery on the matter of sleep, what surprised me most about the article is that resting could actually help insomniacs or people diagnosed with amnesia; they ll be able to relax and retain memory a lot more ... • 4. Ancient Greece s Influence On The Roman Empire Despite being fierce rivals on the battlefield, Greece had a great impact on many of the aspects that made Rome such a strong and beautiful empire. Conflict between the two powers [Greece and Rome] arose in the 3rd century as Roman expansion in South Italy and Sicily encroached on Greek colonies located there ( Greece and Rome ). Agelaos of Naupaktos... spoke of the urgent need for peace, stating that for if the cloud rising in the west should reach Greece, we shall be praying heaven to give us back the chance to call our very quarrels our own ( Greece, History of 2: 111 128). Peace was never reached; Greece and Rome continued to fight over territory until the official end of Greek civilization in 146 B.C. with their defeat at Corinth ( Greece, History of 2: 111 128). Despite this defeat, their constant contact with Roman civilization over hundreds of years ensured their civilization would never truly die. As the Greeks and Romans exchanged land, goods, and ideas with each other, many of the most important parts of Greek civilization become a part of Rome s identity as well. The aesthetics of Greece, specifically the art, architecture, and literature, may have had the most significant influence of all on Roman culture. Ancient Greece greatly impacted the aesthetics of the Roman Empire. Roman sculptors and artists, borrowing upon the techniques of the Greeks, became masters of their craft. • 5. Paul Cézanne Another artist of the Impressionism era that was impacted by the great wave of Japanese artwork was Paul Cézanne. In Cézanne s case, his relationship with Japanese art forms was vague in comparison to the other Impressionists. He was not an avid collector of Japanese prints such as Degas, nor was he privy to the fascination with these unique objects. Cézanne was an artist who admired Puget and Michelangelo for their sculptural volume: he was temperamentally incapable of adopting Japanese prints as his ideal, (Berger 112). Studies have shown that Cézanne paid closer attention to what was going on in the art world than his counterparts, therefore, it is hard to determine how Cézanne could have possibly overlooked Japanese art (Berger 113). ... Looking at figure 8, the spectator can notice the rocky massif emerging in its basic forms, increasingly grand, looming majestic, as the emphasis shifts away from the foreground and towards a surface tissue of color, (Berger 113). Cézanne studied this mountain copiously, the theme allowed him to take notice of new pictorial motifs, and Japanese art showed him the possibility of what may be called free scale , in which above and below, before and behind, large and small, become fluid, interchangeable, freely recombinable, as elements of the formal design, (Berger 114). • 6. Franz Lieber and the Lieber Code Franz Lieber and the Lieber Code In the midst of the deadliest war in American History, there stood a voice of morality and reason on the United States soil. Franz Lieber, a German political philosopher, created a series of political works in which he explained the importance of defining ethical boundaries for soldiers in times of war. In 1863, President Lincoln commissioned Lieber to create a series of laws to reflect his ideas ( Francis Lieber, 2013). Lieber went on to create what became known as Lieber s code, which was history s first attempt to distill, formalize, and systematize various general concepts that international law, at the time, considered proper restraints for the combatants towards each other and towards civilians (Forbes, 1985). But what effect did the code have on the Civil War and the preceding time period? Created at an important juncture in history, Lieber s code not only had a profound effect on the views of controversies during the Civil War, but also influenced the way the world viewed the ethical obligations of military personnel during times of war. Civil War Prisons Throughout the Civil War, prisoners of war were abundant and thus a popular topic of debate. This likely influenced Lieber s ideas as to what was important to include in the code, leading to much of Lieber s code entailing the treatment and exchange of prisoners of war. During the intervening time, I looked for a house that my wife and I could call home, our own expression of the American dream. I found a brick ranch in a neighborhood that had been built right after World War II probably to house a family in a very similar situation to my own. I was able to purchase the house thanks to a zero down loan from a local bank, guaranteed by the Veterans Administration. My situation was not a unusual one, but rather an echo of the development of suburbia. By increasing the amount of leverage people could deploy to buy a house, the FHA made purchasing a home a possibility for people who used to rent, with one person noting that they, ...had been paying $50 per month rent, and here we come up and live for $29 a month. This motivated people who were renting in the city to move out into the suburbs where they could buy their own home, contributing to the white middle class flight from the city. In the opening speech of Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 1 30 Lady Anne orients the reader to the crucial political context of the play and the metaphysical issues contained within it (Greenblatt, 509). She asserts the right of the Lancaster dynasty rule in her statement: Th untimely fall of virtuous Lancaster, / Thou bloodless remnant of that royal blood (1:2:6 7). Taken literally, the ashes, and the bloodless King relate to a funeral pyre and the white skin tone of death. California s water crisis is a major issue that has brought the attention to many people to try to fix the problem. With the Central Valley being the agricultural capital of the world, the current drought issue that we are facing is not only historic, but also very alarming for several reasons. With the current record breaking drought in California, there are three factors that are said to be the reasons for causing the drought, which includes rising temperatures, shortage of water from the Colorado River, and depletion in groundwater (Macdonald, 2015). With rising temperatures over the years, the environmental changes that occur with this are an increase in evaporation, which is taking water from reservoirs and other sources where irrigation is coming from. With climate change with higher temperatures, this is taking away water that is needed to water the many crops that produce vegetation that is distributed all across the United States. The threatening of water supplies, especially here in the state of California is an issue that is very much real and is something that should not be ignored. Sincerely, Concerned Activist This persuasive memo is designed to sell an idea, that texting and driving should be banned. The design put forth by Bowman (2002) is the basis of the letter. The pacing of the letter is quick, with short sentences and simple ideas. The reason for this is to generate an emotional response to help motivate the reader. The core of the argument comes in the first two lines, so there is little time to for the reader to tune out. Bowman also prescribes blending ideas, including blending truth and ... Meanwhile, the global spread of Christianity affected Asia as European missionaries came to spread their faith among Asian countries, like how the Spanish missionaries spread Christianity in the Philippines, causing it to be major outpost of Christianity in Asia. In Japan, the era of sengoku lead to the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the consequences of the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate were the change in social position of ruling elites and the rise of the merchant class, the rise of Dutch learning, and Japan s seclusion from European influences. The era of sengoku, the civil war, lead to the creation of the Tokugawa Shogunate. As they lost their accustomed place in society, many of the ruling elite fell into financial difficulty and fell into genteel poverty. On the other hand, merchants became increasingly wealthy and prominent because they were successful in urban environments, like the city of Edo. Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning Model Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning Model (Observational Learning) The term learning is defined by the Oxford dictionary as the process of acquiring knowledge from reading and studying. This is a very formal view on how we humans learn on a daily basis. However, Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning Model proposes that learning may occur just by mere observation of one s surrounding. This process of learning may be also referred to as informal learning. This way of learning has been in practice since the beginning of our civilisation as a method to pass on the wisdom of the elders to the younger generations in order to perform day to day tasks. Bandura on the other hand calls this form of learning as Observational Learning. This theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if all children were given rewards for imitating the model, all groups showed a high level of imitation. With this information Bandura then postulated that observational learning consists of four aspects. Firstly, attention a process whereby people observe and gain certain information on the behaviour or situation being observed. Secondly, retention which involves a process of transforming and restructuring information in the form of rules and conceptions (Wood Bandura , 1989). Next, reproduction where the individual reenacts the behaviour that was formerly observed. Barbie is manufactured by Mattel, which was founded in California in 1944, and has dominated the toy market ever since. Barbie helped to create a name and an Empire for Mattel, who later introduced products such as Hot Wheels and Polly Pocket. Mattel, for many years, had a great reputation and produced products that were safe and children loved. Mattel began moving their manufacturing operations overseas about twenty years ago, and until recent years had enjoyed continued success. At the time of the recalls, China did not have regulations in place regarding the levels of lead in paint. In addition to lead being found on paint used in children s toys, Mattel would eventually end up recalling millions of products that contained unsafe, removable parts. In the end, Mattel ended up recalling 19 million toys made in China. There is a large cost advantage to doing business in China. Chinese manufacturers are able to manufacture products at a cost that is 30% 50% less than in the United States. The savings associated with foreign manufacturing is too much for most companies, including Mattel, to pass up. Everyday more American jobs are outsourced to China because of their ability to manufacture products for significantly less than in the United States. When it comes to manufacturing, China has a comparative advantage, or the ability to produce a good at a lower opportunity cost than another producer (Mankiw, Pg. 55). Not only have companies, such as Mattel, saved billions of dollars over the years, so has the American consumer. It is estimated that, since 1978, consumers in the United States have saved approximately $100 billion by obtaining cheaper products from China (Ahlstrom Bruton, Pg. 4). • 32. Julius Caesar And Brutus Tragic Hero Analysis A tragic hero tries to do the right thing but has flaws in their character that prevents them from being a true hero. Scholars argue over whether Brutus or Caesar is the tragic hero in the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Both men have tragic flaws which cause their downfall. They are both ambitious. Caesar wanted all the power to himself. On the contrary, Brutus wanted what was best for Rome and to keep a good reputation. Brutus is the tragic hero of the play since he falls the farthest due to the fact that he is too trusting of everyone, he naively allows his enemy to speak out about him, and he lacks self confidence. To begin with, Brutus is too trusting of those around him. Brutus s friend Cassius recognizes that Brutus is driven by what is best for Rome. Because of this Cassius devises a plan to plant a fake petition from the people of Rome stating that Caesar needs to be executed. Brutus never even questions that the petition is real. After reading the petition Brutus response is: Am I entreated To speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise, If the redress will follow, thou receivest Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus! (Shakespeare 2.1.55 58) Brutus agrees to do whatever it takes to help Rome receive justice, even if it means to use violence against his friend. Lastly, due to Brutus killing Caesar, war broke out in Rome. Brutus is creating more chaos for Rome than Caesar is. He is naive and thinks he is doing what is best for Rome, but really ends up hurting Rome. A true hero would have been sceptical about the petition before making decisions about it. Since Brutus is too trusting he did not think twice about the petition which ultimately, leads to his downfall. Another example of Brutus as the tragic hero is his naivety. He foolishly allows his enemy to speak at Caesar s funeral. After Caesar s death the funeral is planned for all of Rome to attend. Brutus allows Mark Antony, Caesar s right hand man, to speak at the funeral. This allows Mark Antony to turn the crowd against Brutus. Mark Antony makes Brutus look like the bad guy by saying: If Brutus so unkindly knocked, or no. For Brutus, as you know, was Caesar s angel. Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him! In doing so, a person is typically secured in a facility that is specially designed for that purpose. Moreover, incarceration remains one of the most severe forms of punishment that our society can impose (National Research Council, 2014). Usually, prison terms are reserved for those found guilty of committing more serious crimes such as violent felonies. Incarceration may be deemed justified as a means of preventing future crimes by incapacitating those who would otherwise be committing crimes within a free society (National Research Council, 2014). Moreover, incarceration can be used to otherwise deter or rehabilitate offenders who are punished from committing future crimes (National Research Council, 2014). While incarcerated, prisons can support an offender s need to rehabilitation so that following the offender s release, he/she is more likely to live in a law abiding way and reintegrate successfully (National Research Council, 2014). Overall, prisons effectiveness can be measured by an outcome that includes lower rates of recidivism and higher rates an offender s positive standing within the community and his/her overall health and well being (National Research Council, 2014). Almost all the main religious denominations have been required to conform to the dictates of Protestantism. Maybe this has been derived from the belief that almost all of these groupings have been responsible for shaping America as we know it today. However, many things have happened in the past few decades to change the way religions have been conducting themselves. One theme that has overly changed over the years is that of pluralism. This philosopher incorporated the grouping of Aristotle in to Christianity. According to this law, all important human principles have a proper reason that is dictated by nature. An example of this is sexual intercourse whose main goal is procreation. The church has repeatedly fought the use of contraceptives as a means of family planning arguing that it contravenes Gods purpose of procreation. To devout Catholics, this is a sign of immorality and should therefore be fought by all people of good will. Influence from outside has caused scholars in the church to question such things as sexuality in its different forms. This has called the church to realize, that society has changed and that there is need for the church to change too. Another area where the Catholic Church has modified its activities to suit European notions is on the issue of penance. Traditionally, the practice was administered on a very personal basis. In the process of penitents, those seeking forgiveness, would kneel in a specially made box known as the confessional. Usually, this box consisted of screens that divided the priest and the penitent. This was meant to create an air of anonymity between the two. The priest would then order the penitent to offer a set of prayer or observe other religious rituals for the forgiveness to take effect.
