News Media Bias Case Study
Objectivity has become a defining component of the news media. Although this request is quite
precarious given the business model of companies that disseminate news, objectivity remains a
professional standard of journalism and reporting that the public is highly aware of. Identifying and
analyzing media bias is an extremely complex task that not many people engage in. The public often
criticizes the news media for trying to advance certain viewpoints or being advocates of political
positions. In other words, many people wish the news media was less biased and more objective.

Perhaps the chosen topic didn t elicit itself to ideological stances as a topic regarding a 2016
presidential candidate would have. Regardless of ideological bias, certain news frames were present
that helped to categorize protesters as either overwhelmingly violent or peaceful. While each news
source mentioned the looting and violence that erupted directly after Gray s funeral on Monday, only
two sources focused on the peaceful protests that occurred on Tuesday. The curfew was interpreted as
a conflict and standoff by ABC7 News and CNN News, but also as an event with minor dissidence by
CBS This Morning and NBC News. The coverage of the Baltimore curfew varied in its sensationalism
of conflict and violence, but not ideologically. Why do so many Americans believe that their news
sources contain ideological bias? As mentioned in the explanation of President Obama s quote in the
analysis of the CNN News article, studies of hostile media effect have found that individuals who
have strong opinions about an issue or close ties to a social group (i.e., partisans) that is the focus of a
controversy will be highly unlikely to perceive any story about that issue or group as credible (Arpan
Peterson 311). While this was not the case with ideological bias in these four news sources, the

The Theory Of The Serial Endosymbiotic Theory
The Serial Endosymbiotic Theory (SET) was a hypothesized process by which prokaryotes give rise
to the first eukaryotic (an organism which contains a nucleus and organelles enclosed within a
membrane ). Was pioneered in the 1960 s by the seminal work of Lynn Margulis. This theory attempts
to explain the origins of eukaryotic cell organelles, specifically the mitochondria (providing the cells
ATP (used for the cells metabolism) supply used by the cell as chemical energy ). With the theory
suggesting that the mitochondria and plastids within a eukaryotic cell were once independent
prokaryotic cells (a single celled organism, which contains a nucleus and other organelles that are
absent of a membrane ), having been obtained by another organism through endosymbiosis, to become
endosymbiot around 1.5 billion years ago. Where the eukaryotes several key organelles originated
through a process called symbiosis, with this occurring between separate single celled organisms
(prokaryotic cells). Through research and locating molecular and biochemical evidence, it suggests
that the mitochondrion developed from proteobacteria, and chloroplast from cyanobacteria.
The first sign of a potential relationship between chloroplasts and the cyanobacteria, started with
Konstantin Mereschkowski. Through observation in 1883, and working closely with fellow botanists
Andrea Schimper. He saw that the division of chloroplasts closely resembled that of the independent
prokaryote cyanobacteria.

Twyla Tharp Biography
Hi prof. Dibble:
I was thinking about that old fashion saying, Break a leg as a form of good luck. Perhaps it was for the
best not to be part of this last dance. Although, I know I am missing out, especially when we are trying
to emulate some of Twyla Tharp techniques and influences. She is such an interesting choreographer. I
never had heard of silent dances or thought about combining ballet, which is more traditional, with
modern dance, yet I think it s quite genius.
I just wanted to attach the small intro that I will be reading tomorrow to introduce my group s project

Comparing the Learnedness and Flexibility Found in Human...
Man s relationship with horses extends back thousands of years. They have impacted wars, provided
transportation, and improved farming techniques; all while being great companions for humans.
Though they play this pivotal role in human history, only a few studies have been conducted to help us
understand what they express through their vocalizations, and their ability to recognize individuals.
Horses encompass a wide array of verbal and nonverbal cues in their communication. Vocalizations
and body language can convey caller s sex, body size, identity, motivation, and physiological states
(Yeon, 2012, p.180). Horses are social creatures making the information encoded and decoded in
verbal and nonverbal communication extremely important within their social structures.
Vocal communication transmits information about horses state of mind; this can be done using a
combination of vocal and laryngeal sounds. Horses use 10 distinctive sounds when communicating
vocally and each of these express different meanings (Zlotnik, 2012). These distinct sounds are neighs
(whinnies), whispers, nickers, squeals, screams, groans, blows, snores, snorts, and roars. Snores,
blows, and snorts are unique in that they are used with the throat and nose not vocal cords.
Understanding these vocalizations is essential in revealing horse s motivation and improving horse
human relationships, as well as if these calls are referential, learned and can be used flexibly.

Art Comparison Paper
In this paper, I will describe, compare, and contrast two paintings of the same name, The Annunciation
by Gerard David and Joos van Cleve. Beginning with Joos van Cleve s work, we see the virgin Mary
kneeling down before an opened book. An illuminated dove with its wings spread is suspended above
Mary. An angel is standing beside her, making a gesture. Both figures are inside an ornately decorated,
well lit bedroom. Mary is wearing a large, dark blue robe that rests upon the floor as she kneels. A
portion of it is suspended onto the stand from which she reads a book. The book s pages are opened in
an unrealistic manner, with a few pages seemingly stuck in one position. What little of her figure that
is visible is oddly proportioned, with a plump ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a gold halo. Just above the dove is a depiction of a horned figure with a halo. To the left of the
depiction is a gold chandelier that is styled in a similar manner to the angel s scepter. Behind and to
the left of the chandelier is an ornate diptych, only one of the panels are revealed. Inscriptions are

Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia
Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia
Cesi Salmeron
Suny Rockland Community College
Abstract
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood
cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported
throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are
African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a
result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of
sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In
this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with
sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs.
What is sickle cell anemia?
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is
characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result,
abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or
crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of
oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one
copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch,

The Effects Of Monopolies On The Economy Essay
Monopolies People have been doing anything in their power to gain money. Many think they are
leading the competition with doing nothing wrong. Others see it as unfair to do the things that
monopolies have done to society. Lawsuits have been made to stop the ones behind this, but some
monopolies weren t always out to hurt the economy, but to help it. Monopolies have impacted this
economy in the past and even to this day. Way back in 1932, Charles todd and his wife decided to
introduce a new game to some fellow friends. It was a real estate board game. They sat around playing
the game by rolling the dice and buy properties. The couple liked it so much that they asked Charles if
he would make them their own set to play with. Charles began to show more and more people the
game, and then began applying more and more rules to it. Many began to ask the name of the game,
and where it came from. They also asked about the rules, who had come up with them. Charles had no
answer for them. Where it did start was in 1903 from woman named Elizabeth Magie that lived in
Washington DC. She spent many late nights trying to come up with a perfect board game. The main
idea she a was going for was a game that represented current day s political problems. Drawing after
drawing she finally had the game. Elizabeth spoke to the public about her game. The game included
buying and selling railways, houses, hotels, paying taxes, collecting annual income, and if you

State Apparatuses By Antonio Gramsci
I have been for the most part skeptical about whether Louis Althusser s essay on state apparatuses
accomplishes anything not previously explained in more humanistic and less functionalist terms by
Antonio Gramsci. Indeed, although there appears to be a clear divergence between the two insofar as
Gramsci associates ideological work with civil society whereas Althusser locates it in the state, even
this distinction is not as stark in light of certain passages in Selections from the Prison Notebooks.
Gramsci s historically specific analysis of domination through hegemony simply seemed to me to
constitute a social theory that better accounts for contingency, agency, and change. After further
reflection, however, it also clear to me that we can improve upon it by incorporating Althusser s useful
references to materiality and production.
Before explaining Althusser s contribution to theories of ideology and the state, it is necessary to
review Gramsci s own writings on the topic, particularly since his definition of the state and its
functions varies a great deal within his fragmented notes from 1929 1936. The particular conception
with which Gramsci is perhaps most associated is found in State and Civil Society the dichotomous
title of which is highly suggestive in which he describes the state as the coercive and punitive force of
juridical regulation of a country. It was Gramsci s attention to ideological struggles in the voluntary
associations and private institutions of

Introduction
Ports play a decisive role in furthering the economic goals of a country. In the context of the U.S.
marine, transportation system is the cherished asset of the country. The system has provided the U.S
maritime transport a leading position in the international market. Although, the maritime
transportation has been stable traditionally, manifold increase in international trade has imposed
potential challenges of maritime transportation capacity. Another constraint on the transportation
system is arising from the environmental regulations now imposed by the U.S government through
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Therefore, the industry is set to face two main issues in
coming years, first filling the gap between demand and supply of port transportation and secondly to
provide enough capacity for managing future growth of transportation through ports. The leading
factors that needs to be addressed for meeting demand and increasing capacity are

How Did Operation Barbarossa Invade Russia
1941: Operation Barbarossa
Russia tried to avoid war with Germany at the start of World War II, but this changed on June 22,
1941. Operation Barbarossa joined Russia into the World War II. This was the largest German military
attack, and unfortunately for the Russians, a very well planned operation. Operation Barbarossa s
name originated from the Holy Roman emperor, Fredrick Barbarossa, who set out to conquer the Holy
Land. This name was completely appropriate since the goal of Operation Barbarossa was to capture
the capitol of Russia, Moscow. Operation Barbarossa was an attack by the Germans to join Russia into
the war with Germany.
The plan of Operation Barbarossa started in July of 1940. Hitler decided he wanted to make an attack
on Russia. He saw a threat to his oil supply in Romania who was one of Germany s allies. Hitler
signed the first order of Barbarossa on December 18, 1940. Germany was breaking a non aggression
pact with Russia on August 23, 1939 with this operation. Although, it wasn t just Germany who was
paranoid; Russia was also suspicious of Germany. Germany s bold idea of attacking Russia wasn t just
to take over Russian territory, but destroy the Red Army (Soviet army) with large battles and
enormous amounts of demolition.
After much strategy and months of preparation, Germany invaded Russia on June 22, 1941. Germany
was well prepared with three separate army division in the North, South, and Central areas of Russia s
eastern border. Germany had about three

In the story of BNY s exodus from Egypt God uses a series of extraordinary yet drastic plagues before
God finally takes BNY out from Egypt. Throughout the plagues there seems to be many modifications
and additons to the original requests Moshe made to Pharaoh, ‫ת‬ ‫ֶא‬ ‫ַּלח‬ ‫ַׁש‬ ,‫ר‬‫ֵלאֹמ‬ ‫ֶליָך‬ ‫ֵא‬ ‫י‬‫ִנ‬‫ָלַח‬ ‫ְׁש‬ ‫ים‬ ‫ִר‬ ‫ְב‬ ‫ִע‬‫ָה‬ ‫י‬‫ֱאֹלֵה‬ ‫הָוה‬‫ְי‬

There are three major statements made previous to the actual event of the plague that serve as insight
into the intentions of God. The first statement is ‫יך‬‫ֶד‬‫ֲעָב‬‫ּוַב‬ ‫ָך‬ ‫ְּב‬ ‫יַח‬‫ִל‬ ‫ְׁש‬‫ַמ‬ ‫י‬‫ִנ‬‫ְנ‬ ‫ִה‬ , while God as already told
moshe the plauges will fall on the ‫עבדים‬ of Pharaoh repatition of any word communicates the
importance of that word to the overall understanding of what going on in the text. Not only does this
plagues warning include repetition but it s second important section of the warning is when God tells
Moshe to say to Pharaph that, ‫ָעֶליָה‬ ‫ד‬‫ֵמ‬‫ֹע‬ ‫י‬ ‫ַעִּמ‬ ‫ר‬ ‫ֲאֶׁש‬ ,‫ן‬ ‫ֶׁש‬‫ֹּג‬ ‫ץ‬ ‫ֶר‬ ‫ֶא‬ ‫ת‬ ‫ֶא‬ ‫הּוא‬‫ַה‬ ‫ּיֹום‬‫ַב‬ ‫י‬ ‫ֵליִת‬ ‫ְפ‬ ‫ִה‬‫ְו‬, so there won t be any

make a specific statement, BNY won t suffer plagues because I will separate their land from that of the
Egyptians, on the other hand the second statement seems to be seperate saying that there will be a
distinction between the individual nations, not just their land. Lastly in between those two statements
Not only does the placement of this statement make it clear
to the reader that ‫ָעֶליָה‬ ‫ד‬‫ֵמ‬‫ֹע‬ ‫י‬ ‫ַעִּמ‬ ‫ר‬ ‫ֲאֶׁש‬ ,‫ן‬ ‫ֶׁש‬‫ֹּג‬ ‫ץ‬ ‫ֶר‬ ‫ֶא‬ ‫ת‬ ‫ֶא‬ ‫הּוא‬‫ַה‬ ‫ּיֹום‬‫ַב‬ ‫י‬ ‫ֵליִת‬ ‫ְפ‬ ‫ִה‬‫ְו‬ and ‫י‬ ‫ַעִּמ‬ ‫ין‬‫ֵּב‬ ,‫ֻדת‬ ‫ְפ‬ ‫י‬ ‫ִּת‬ ‫ְמ‬ ‫ַׂש‬‫ְו‬

dangerous and violent town, which drove them into their own violent lifestyle. As young men, how the
movie starts off, they rob the local drug dealers of a gun for a premeditated robbery. The money
allowed for them to purchase visas to come to Miami, Florida. While in the United States, as adults,
the two continue their criminal activities leading them to be deported back to their home in Jamaica.
Mad Max and Wayne, who was deported years before Biggs made his return, had already formed a
striving extortion business. Wayne made it mandatory for all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Analysis
When it comes to extortion, in my opinion, there are different levels when it comes to classifying it as
an organized crime. As young men, the boys decided to rob and shoot a delivery truck driver, in order,
to rob him of his earnings. They commited a robbery, however, it modded them into become
disciplined organized criminals and extortionist. I call this a minor because of the money they robbed
the driver of was nothing compared to the amounts of money they were extorting from the upperworld
and underworld people of power. Their behavior reflects the behaviors they have seen first hand
within their communities. The young children within the community are exposed first hand to the
violence of the local gangs and crimes. At this time, I believe, the issue was with the Jamaican
systems, as in educational and law enforcement. Along with the issue of the communities lack of
attention towards their new generations, is the issue of corruption. Aside from law enforcement being
able to keep up with the criminal activity, and being able to stop it, is the political officials being
corrupted. The film reflects on how the political world sometimes becomes involved in the organized
crime world. Reflecting on a reading we did this semester, when the upperworld connects itself with
organized criminals, it does not mean the official themself are involved in crimes themselves.
However, it allows for the organized crime to succeed and become a thriving

Social Institutions And Its Impact On Society
For sake of discussion, I used the words most influential only in a positive and/or inspiring sense,
meaning society would benefit most from these social institutions. Conversely, I could have argued
that the least influential social institutions are good and/or beneficial to our society, but our society
chooses to ignore them; and the most influential social institution plague our society. However, I chose
the former the positive and/or inspiring sense of the words. Social institutions are the organized, usual,
or standard ways that a society meets its basic needs (P. 104). Moreover, functionalists identify five
functional requisites that each society must meet to insure their survival (Pp. 104 106). With this in
mind, Family and the Economy are the most influential social institutions in industrial society. Henslin
stated in Chapter 3 that Our experiences in the family and other groups during childhood lay down the
basic orientations to life (p. 94). Families offer guidance as well as protection from the larger, and
sometimes hurtful, society. Furthermore, loving families provide socialization, identity, and comfort,
all of which have an essential role in the development of the self (Pp. 104 106). The economy is the
second most influential social institution in industrial societies. To fulfill basic needs, societies rely on
a strong economy to produce and distribute goods and services. Additionally, strong and stable
economies provide employment and job security to

The Importance Of Trauma Informed Care
As a support worker, it is necessary that organisation would need to have a foundational understanding
of how to identify trauma associated responses. Similarly, there needs to be understanding when
initiating treatment interventions for trauma related symptoms, it is aimed to be conducive and
empowering to the individual (Trauma Informed Care: A Sociocultural Perspective, 2014). Also, all
support workers should be skilled in identifying the symptoms of trauma, as well as not disregarding
the probability of substance abuse and co occurring disorders (Trauma Informed Care: A Sociocultural

What Is The View Of Youth Essay
Youth is a short story written by Joseph Conrad who is an English short story writer. This piece of
writing is inspired from real events of the writer s life, specifically his first voyage to the East in 1881.
It is an account of the voyage and the hardships encountered at sea in which the writer depicts the
regressive state of the ship he is traveling in, and the uncooperative sea that would lead to the whole
crew s decay. This essay will study the ship, as a narrative space, from the narrator s perspective, the
effect it has on those on board who are determined to save it and how this space is affected by the
wider space of the sea.
A quasi present space in « Youth » is the ship that is meant to sail from London to the East. It is

The natural elements that form this space, air and water, play an important role in determining the
outcome of the story. Indeed, at some point of the story there was nothing round the ship but the howl
of the wind, the tumult of the sea . The first trouble encountered on the voyage is the famous October
gale . This strong wind repeatedly blows and destabilizes the ship that resists it. It represents a
persisting unbeatable force of nature. Another important natural element is that of water. Travelling by
a ship, water is an essential element to the space and a facilitator of movement. In this story, water
turned into a threatening force that invades the space of the ship, reversing its function of crossing the
sea without being attained by water. Water, this essential element of survival, turns into threat to the
survival of Marlow and the whole ship. The sea is fighting to put down the ship that Marlow considers
the only way to cross the sea that gives nothing and reach the East. The narrator, thus, acknowledges
that the sea is not a welcoming space but can rather betray those who trust

Arnold from the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian and Verity from Code Name
Verity never met each other, their books take place on complete opposite sides of the earth and are

Essay on Southeastern Native American Literature
Southeastern Native American Literature
Native American literature from the Southeastern United States is deeply rooted in the oral traditions
of the various tribes that have historically called that region home. While the tribes most integrally
associated with the Southeastern U.S. in the American popular mind the FIVE CIVILIZED TRIBES
(Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole) were forcibly relocated to Indian Territory
(present day Oklahoma) from their ancestral territories in the American South, descendents of those
tribes have created compelling literary works that have kept alive their tribal identities and histories by
incorporating traditional themes and narrative elements. While reflecting profound awareness of ...

Members of the Five Civilized Tribes were at the vanguard of Native American literature during the
nineteenth century. The earliest work of fiction in English by an author of native descent is generally
thought to be Poor Sarah, or Religion Exemplified in the Life and Death of an Indian Woman, a 1823

Cherokee tribe who was born in Georgia, Boudinot was the editor of the bilingual newspaper The
Cherokee Phoenix, the first periodical published by Native Americans. Poor Sarah was not

Descriptive Power Of Nature
Deep in the mountains in the southwest corner of North Carolina is a river unlike any other. Halfway
through my perilous rafting journey, there was a moment when time stood still. I witnessed a natural
phenomenon which displayed the beauty of nature at its finest. During that moment, I realized the
insignificance of humanity, and why we should respect the overwhelming power of nature. The
Nantahala is a whitewater river nestled in a valley with steep mountains flanking it on all sides. The
forest it was situated in is the only temperate rain forest east of the Mississippi River. The rafting
Industry has adopted this river as its premier destination. I was a 14 year old Boy Scout on a three day
camping trip in the Nantahala Gorge. The weather was cloudy with periodic rain showers throughout
the day and night. The temperature was at the mid 80 s but never got above the 90 s. I was in a bright
yellow raft shared amongst five of my companions and a rafting Guide who went by the name Bones.
Bones was a Caucasian man with dreads in his hair, tattoos of paddles shaped as a pirates cross on
both of his arms, and was massively strong. We floated down the river like leaves down a stream;
constantly fighting to stay upright and not be cast overboard by the restless aggression of the rapids.
We were part of the way through a two hour journey down the Nantahala river. It had rained
continuously throughout the trip, which meant we were soaked to the bone and fighting hypothermia.

Naturalism in Russia and the Creation of the Moscow Art...
The earliest of the modern theatre movement was naturalism. Russia lagged behind the rest of Europe,
as far as theatre was concerned. That point was proven when the Meiningen Players performed in
Russia. The Meiningen Players created not only a set, but also an environment in which they are a part
of (Gascoigne 265). Russian producers saw, first hand, how far behind they were. The Imperial
Theatre system spent most of its resources on opera and ballet while neglecting legitimate theatre.
Most of the administrative staff was composed of government appointees who had little or no interest
of theatrical production. There was no effort to harmonize sets and costumes to create a unified
impression (Londre 359). This changed, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chekov vowed to write only trifles from then on. However, he wrote another full length play, The

it worked to control the pressure within the tube. In the middle of the tube was the most important
part. There was a smaller tube (cold finger) placed, it was filled with ice cold water to ensure that the
gas would sublime, and when it came in contact with the ice cold tube, white caffeine crystals would
form. To ensure that no water got into the tube where the crude substance was, we used saran wrap to

Marketing Is The Core Of Communication Between A...
Marketing is the core of communication between a corporation and its target audience, facilitated by
widespread consumption and significantly influenced by consumer demand. It also serves as a
platform that allows a company s message to exploit media platforms in the attempt to gain a
successful customer response and induce behaviours that will propel economic expansion. Despite the
indisputable benefits of marketing to companies and consumers, the occasional antagonistic motives
behind its evident necessity is a point of interest because of how marketing approaches are being
utilised as a transmission channel for corporations to promote unhealthy competition, such as eliciting
the disrepute of another brand or falsifying product specifications for higher turnover, or induce
psychological and behavioural change within the society. Nonetheless, marketing fosters innovation,
prevents market complacency and functions as a catalyst for the promotion of consumer worthy
products and services.
The principle basis of a profitable relationship between a company and its consumer audience is
marketing. It is therefore important for corporations to conduct appropriate market research to identify
the needs of its target market, determine how to prevail over existing competition and analyse
potential threats towards productivity and profitability. Marketing provides conceptual frameworks
and economic models that allow corporations to estimate its capabilities relevant to the current

Besides some critics, Barbara s books have had some positives results. She tells a story about a kid

Since over 95% of American s manufacturing companies are considered to be small, with less than
100 workers, the trade agreement could be a crippling blow to the industry. American jobs will be lost
and American workers will be laid off. Consumers will suffer, business will suffer, and ultimately
America will suffer. Many argue that free trade will be beneficial for the economy, but exactly who is
benefiting? America won t benefit from this deal unless its export is greater than its import. Reports
from 2014 show that the U.S. imported $2.34 trillion in goods compared to exporting $1.62 trillion
(Nash Hoff, 2015). This imbalance created a huge deficit over $720 billion, which is not even close to
being beneficial for the economy or the nation as a whole. The Peterson Institute for International

gain of about 0.38% over the next decade. Some people believe this trade agreement will cause new
jobs to spring up but, in truth, a trade agreement does not on balance, create, or destroy jobs, it alters

White Collar Crime Is Now Becoming More Widely
Introduction
In today s society, white collar crime is now becoming more widely known because of the
advancement of technological devices and brilliant minds. In fact, over 730,000 counts of suspected
financial wrongoing were recorded in America last year, according to recent data from the Treasury

a term reportedly coined in 1939 is now synonymous with the full range of frauds committed by

Reliability of Polygraph Testing Essay
A popular way on many crime dramas to determine if a suspect is lying or telling the truth is by
hooking them up to a polygraph machine. In a matter of a minute the police are able to determine if
the suspect is lying and guilty or, on the rare occasion, telling the truth and innocent. But, one has to
wonder, is it really that simple? Polygraphs measure four main factors that are thought to change when
a lie is told and more importantly, it is assumed that these changes indicate deception. The four main
factors are blood pressure, heart beat, perspiration, and breathing and these are recorded by using
simple devices. It is important to note from the beginning that those who question the reliability of

Another noteworthy contribution was Vittorio Benumbs. Around World War One (WWI) he
experimented with a device that measured the rate and depth of breathing and based on these
experiments he concluded that this device could be used to gauge deception (The History and Basic
Facts of Polygraph, 2009). The United States government put these ideas of deception testing to work
during WWI when they measured the blood pressure of prisoners of war during questioning. The first
real big development towards the modern polygraph detector was in 1921 when Dr. John A. Larson
invented an instrument that made the first permanent record of blood pressure, pulse, and respiration
(The History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). Despite all the contributions from various people,
the father of the polygraph is considered to be Leonard Keeler. Keeler created his own polygraph
which included a device called the galvanic skin response which measures changes in skin s resistance
to electricity, and therefore prespiration (The History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). He is
regarded as the father of the polygraph because his polygraph combined the three main components
that make up all modern polygraphs: the pneumograph (records respiration changes), cardiograph, and
the galvanic skin response.

was an avid gun collector and enthusiast. Not only did Nancy provide access to the weapons, she also
brought Adam and his older brother to a shooting range for target practice (Bankcoff 1). Adam Lanza,
20 years old at the time of the shooting, had been diagnosed with Asperger s syndrome and Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder. According to a report by Connecticut s Office of Child Advocate Lanza was an
individual with deteriorating mental health and a fascination with mass shootings. Before the shooting,
Lanza had cut off all communication to reality, secluding himself to his room where he played hours
of violent video games and obsessed over mass murders. During the police investigation, his computer

Protest Music In The Black Lives Matter Movement
Even in 2015 we still see how protest music is being used in the Black Lives Matter Movement. As
protests and anger against the police grew again like it did in the late 80 s and early 90 s F Tha Police
became the anthem for a new movement of civil rights protesters. In Ferguson, chants of hands up,
don t shoot turned to F Tha Police as the protests turned to riots. In Denver, protesters dumped red
paint over a police memorial and tagged the back of it f the police during a Black Lives Matter protest.
We still see how relevant the protest song is today even though it was released over 20 years ago. The
protest rap just like protest music in the 1960 s resonates with people. The listener has this stimulated
experience were they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A profound number of the college students I interviewed felt that Bob Dylan s 1960s The Times They
are a Changin and Tupac Shakur 1992 Keep Ya Head Up a reference to the L.A. riots, spoke more to
their reasoning. They talked about how these two songs relied on human logic to establish their
arguments and convince them of their meaningfulness through their lyrics. Appeals to reason are
derived from logic and adapted in such a way as to appeal to and have an effect on an audience
(Bailey, 2006). The songs, The Times They Are a Changin and Keep Ya head up both explores the
illogical nature of the traditional way of thinking at the time. Throughout the songs, both artist use
verbal opposition and argumentative statements to logically criticize the traditional way of thinking
about race and war. In various stanzas of Tupac song, he draws attention to various injustices and how
blind the nation is when it still comes to race. He says They got money or wars, but can t feed tha
poor, say their ain t no hope for the youth and the truth is. It can t no hope for tha future. We ain t
meant to survive cause it s a setup and even if you re fed up, ya got keep your head up (Shakur, 1992).
In the case of this song many of the students felt Tupac gave great reasoning with how we have money
for wars but not to feed the poor and how the government and society does in fact setup some races to
fail more than others. The students came to the revelation through the reasoning given how this still
holds true even in today s society, with police brutality and unlawful stops because of the color of a

Explain Why There Is A Renewable Energy Source Compared To...
Solar Energy/Power
1. Describe solar power. Explain in detail how the energy source is used to generate electricity
Solar energy is a type of energy that is used in many households all around the world it is a renewable
resource meaning once you use it you can replace it. It is a great energy source that is going to rule
over coal and oil when we run out of fossil fuels. Electricity received from the panels is light energy
that has been converted.
The steps of how solar panels work are explained below:
1. The photons from the sun is absorbed by the solar panel
2. The silicon and conductors in the solar panel converts the light energy into a current of electricity
called Direct Current, which flows through to your inverter
3. The Inverter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spare electricity that wasn t used is credited to the grid
5. If more electricity is needed then your solar panels produce, electricity is taken from the grid to
power your house
2. What is a renewable energy source compared to a non renewable energy source?
A renewable energy source is a source of energy that can be renewed or replaced like solar or wind
energy, these are examples of renewable energy sources because they can be replaced. Solar energy,
the sun will never run out (until billions of years later) and wind energy is renewable because we can t
run out of wind. Now, non renewable energy. Coal, oil, gas these are all examples of non renewable
energy sources. They are non renewable energy sources because once you use it, you cannot replace it.
So renewable energy is energy that can be replaced and non renewable energy is energy that cannot be
replaced.
Is solar power a renewable or non renewable resource? Explain
Solar power is a renewable energy source because humans are not using any of the earth s resources
and because the sun will never run out or be extinguished. Each day you will generate electricity from
the sun
3. Advantages of Solar Power
Solar energy does not cause pollution, whereas oil, coal etc. does cause

Write An Essay On World Trade Organization
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is a global organization that helps countries and producers of
goods deal fairly and smoothly with conducting their business across international borders. It mainly
does this through WTO agreements, which are negotiated and signed by a large majority of the trading
nations in the world. The purpose of the WTO is to ensure that global trade commences freely,
smoothly and predictably while also aiming to create economic peace and stability in the world
through a multilateral system. This is based and applied to member states, currently 162 countries, that
have consented and ratified the rules of the WTO in their individual countries. Simply put, these
documents act as contracts that provide the legal framework for conducting business among nations,
integrating into a country s domestic legal system, therefore, applying to local companies and
nationals in the conduct of business internationally. For instance, if a company were to open an office
or business in a foreign country, the rules of the WTO dictates how that can be done.1 The origin of
the WTO has its roots in the creation of the International Trade Organization (ITO) at the 1944 Bretton
Woods Conference. While the terms of the ITO charter were being drafted and debated and countries
pondered whether or not they would be a part of the organization, representatives from a group of 17
nations assembled in Geneva and concluded an interim agreement (GATT) to lower trade barriers and

Essay on Sexual Exploitation of Women in the Media
Sexual Exploitation of Women in the Media
Women are sexually exploited in the media. In today s society if people watch television programs
such as Chingy featuring Snoop Ludacris Holidae; Charlie s Angels; the Z100 commercial with
Britney Spears; or Baywatch they will see that the feminine image is presented differently than the
masculine. In these programs men are typically placed in sexual situations fully clothed, while women
are presented in provocative clothing or less. The camera will frequently zoom in on body parts to
focus on the woman s buttocks, midriff, and legs. Society is still dominated by men who control what
people see. As a result women are increasingly portrayed as sex symbols as a way for a media
company to turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1998, $1billion was spent online on adult content, 69 percent of the total Internet content sales.
In most commercial advertisements on television, women show more skin than men. Commercials use
women to sell sex because it attracts more attention than men showing their bodies. For instance,
Britney Spears, a singer whom many teenagers admire, appeared in a music commercial for Z100, the
number one radio station in New York. Z100 promotes commercially hot music in modes such as pop,
rock, and R B. In Z100 s new commercial, Britney Spears is wearing a beige outfit consisting of a
tight tube top and small shorts that accent her chest and buttocks. After talking for a moment, she
starts dancing with her back facing the camera. Viewers are visually drawn to the shape of her body.
As spokesperson for Z100, Britney Spears is being used as a marketing tool to attract men and
increase ratings. Z100 could have had a popular male in its commercial. Instead the company s
executives chose a popular woman known for her hourglass figure because men prefer to look at
young, shapely, nubile women.
Television shows concentrate more and more on physical imagery showing women and their bodies
exposed in an effort to increase ratings. The show Baywatch is about lifeguards, both men and
women, working on the beach, but the females wear tight and particularly revealing bikinis. When the
show first came out, it was taken seriously as

Essay on Queen Elizabeth
The last queen of the Tudor dynasty, Queen Elizabeth I proved to be on of the most celebrated, and
controversial leaders in English history. Raised in a neglectful home, and shadowed by her mother s
reputation, Elizabeth did not have the royal treatment that her siblings received. From her birth, she
was a disappointment, as a child she was intelligent, yet unnoticed, and the road to her 1558 1603
reign was troubled. Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. To the disappointment of King Henry
VII, her father, she was a presumptive heir to the throne. Elizabeth s older sister, Mary, would have
been heir to the throne, but that was stripped from her when Henry VII divorced her mother, Catherine
of Aragon. Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth s mother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary?s determination was to destroy the Protestant faith in England. One of her acts as queen was
confining Elizabeth to the Tower of London for two months on suspicion of collaborating against her
plans. Mary suspected that she was pregnant, and Elizabeth?s probability at descending the throne was
diminishing rapidly, although Mary recognized Elizabeth as heir to the throne. It turned out Mary was
not pregnant, and she became very ill. On November 17, 1558 she died. On January 15, 1559
Elizabeth became queen at the age of twenty five. A light snow fell on the packed London streets as
the new queen was celebrated. The queen repeatedly told her people ?I thank you with all my heart.?
After the coronation ceremony, Elizabeth sat down to a lavish ten hour banquet. Many challenged the
queen?s right to absolute power. John Knox stated ?Women are unsuited to rule.? Elizabeth made it
abundantly clear she would not stand for disobedience. During her reign, Elizabeth enjoyed charming
men into agreeing with her views. To insure that her statesmen and courtiers did not take their
positions for granted, she alternated between outburst of royal displeasure and displays of humor and
warmth. Elizabeth was considered by most to be a gorgeous queen, and her beauty was unmatched.
During her childhood, while living with Catherine Parr, Elizabeth experienced emotional distress
which many believe affected her love

  • 2. News Media Bias Case Study Objectivity has become a defining component of the news media. Although this request is quite precarious given the business model of companies that disseminate news, objectivity remains a professional standard of journalism and reporting that the public is highly aware of. Identifying and analyzing media bias is an extremely complex task that not many people engage in. The public often criticizes the news media for trying to advance certain viewpoints or being advocates of political positions. In other words, many people wish the news media was less biased and more objective. Evaluating four news sources, CBS This Morning, ABC7 News, NBC News, and CNN on their coverage of the implementation of a curfew in Baltimore following the Baltimore protests, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps the chosen topic didn t elicit itself to ideological stances as a topic regarding a 2016 presidential candidate would have. Regardless of ideological bias, certain news frames were present that helped to categorize protesters as either overwhelmingly violent or peaceful. While each news source mentioned the looting and violence that erupted directly after Gray s funeral on Monday, only two sources focused on the peaceful protests that occurred on Tuesday. The curfew was interpreted as a conflict and standoff by ABC7 News and CNN News, but also as an event with minor dissidence by CBS This Morning and NBC News. The coverage of the Baltimore curfew varied in its sensationalism of conflict and violence, but not ideologically. Why do so many Americans believe that their news sources contain ideological bias? As mentioned in the explanation of President Obama s quote in the analysis of the CNN News article, studies of hostile media effect have found that individuals who have strong opinions about an issue or close ties to a social group (i.e., partisans) that is the focus of a controversy will be highly unlikely to perceive any story about that issue or group as credible (Arpan Peterson 311). While this was not the case with ideological bias in these four news sources, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Theory Of The Serial Endosymbiotic Theory The Serial Endosymbiotic Theory (SET) was a hypothesized process by which prokaryotes give rise to the first eukaryotic (an organism which contains a nucleus and organelles enclosed within a membrane ). Was pioneered in the 1960 s by the seminal work of Lynn Margulis. This theory attempts to explain the origins of eukaryotic cell organelles, specifically the mitochondria (providing the cells ATP (used for the cells metabolism) supply used by the cell as chemical energy ). With the theory suggesting that the mitochondria and plastids within a eukaryotic cell were once independent prokaryotic cells (a single celled organism, which contains a nucleus and other organelles that are absent of a membrane ), having been obtained by another organism through endosymbiosis, to become endosymbiot around 1.5 billion years ago. Where the eukaryotes several key organelles originated through a process called symbiosis, with this occurring between separate single celled organisms (prokaryotic cells). Through research and locating molecular and biochemical evidence, it suggests that the mitochondrion developed from proteobacteria, and chloroplast from cyanobacteria. The first sign of a potential relationship between chloroplasts and the cyanobacteria, started with Konstantin Mereschkowski. Through observation in 1883, and working closely with fellow botanists Andrea Schimper. He saw that the division of chloroplasts closely resembled that of the independent prokaryote cyanobacteria. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Comparing the Learnedness and Flexibility Found in Human... Man s relationship with horses extends back thousands of years. They have impacted wars, provided transportation, and improved farming techniques; all while being great companions for humans. Though they play this pivotal role in human history, only a few studies have been conducted to help us understand what they express through their vocalizations, and their ability to recognize individuals. Horses encompass a wide array of verbal and nonverbal cues in their communication. Vocalizations and body language can convey caller s sex, body size, identity, motivation, and physiological states (Yeon, 2012, p.180). Horses are social creatures making the information encoded and decoded in verbal and nonverbal communication extremely important within their social structures. Vocal communication transmits information about horses state of mind; this can be done using a combination of vocal and laryngeal sounds. Horses use 10 distinctive sounds when communicating vocally and each of these express different meanings (Zlotnik, 2012). These distinct sounds are neighs (whinnies), whispers, nickers, squeals, screams, groans, blows, snores, snorts, and roars. Snores, blows, and snorts are unique in that they are used with the throat and nose not vocal cords. Understanding these vocalizations is essential in revealing horse s motivation and improving horse human relationships, as well as if these calls are referential, learned and can be used flexibly. Beginning with Joos van Cleve s work, we see the virgin Mary kneeling down before an opened book. An illuminated dove with its wings spread is suspended above Mary. An angel is standing beside her, making a gesture. Both figures are inside an ornately decorated, well lit bedroom. Mary is wearing a large, dark blue robe that rests upon the floor as she kneels. • 7. Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia Cesi Salmeron Suny Rockland Community College Abstract Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs. What is sickle cell anemia? Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result, abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Effects Of Monopolies On The Economy Essay Monopolies People have been doing anything in their power to gain money. Many think they are leading the competition with doing nothing wrong. Others see it as unfair to do the things that monopolies have done to society. Lawsuits have been made to stop the ones behind this, but some monopolies weren t always out to hurt the economy, but to help it. Monopolies have impacted this economy in the past and even to this day. Way back in 1932, Charles todd and his wife decided to introduce a new game to some fellow friends. It was a real estate board game. They sat around playing the game by rolling the dice and buy properties. The couple liked it so much that they asked Charles if he would make them their own set to play with. Charles began to show more and more people the game, and then began applying more and more rules to it. Many began to ask the name of the game, and where it came from. They also asked about the rules, who had come up with them. Charles had no answer for them. Where it did start was in 1903 from woman named Elizabeth Magie that lived in Washington DC. She spent many late nights trying to come up with a perfect board game. The main idea she a was going for was a game that represented current day s political problems. Drawing after drawing she finally had the game. Elizabeth spoke to the public about her game. The game included buying and selling railways, houses, hotels, paying taxes, collecting annual income, and if you trespassed on someone s land you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. State Apparatuses By Antonio Gramsci I have been for the most part skeptical about whether Louis Althusser s essay on state apparatuses accomplishes anything not previously explained in more humanistic and less functionalist terms by Antonio Gramsci. Indeed, although there appears to be a clear divergence between the two insofar as Gramsci associates ideological work with civil society whereas Althusser locates it in the state, even this distinction is not as stark in light of certain passages in Selections from the Prison Notebooks. Gramsci s historically specific analysis of domination through hegemony simply seemed to me to constitute a social theory that better accounts for contingency, agency, and change. After further reflection, however, it also clear to me that we can improve upon it by incorporating Althusser s useful references to materiality and production. Before explaining Althusser s contribution to theories of ideology and the state, it is necessary to review Gramsci s own writings on the topic, particularly since his definition of the state and its functions varies a great deal within his fragmented notes from 1929 1936. The particular conception with which Gramsci is perhaps most associated is found in State and Civil Society the dichotomous title of which is highly suggestive in which he describes the state as the coercive and punitive force of juridical regulation of a country. It was Gramsci s attention to ideological struggles in the voluntary associations and private institutions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, the maritime transportation has been stable traditionally, manifold increase in international trade has imposed potential challenges of maritime transportation capacity. • 13. How Did Operation Barbarossa Invade Russia 1941: Operation Barbarossa Russia tried to avoid war with Germany at the start of World War II, but this changed on June 22, 1941. Operation Barbarossa joined Russia into the World War II. This was the largest German military attack, and unfortunately for the Russians, a very well planned operation. Operation Barbarossa s name originated from the Holy Roman emperor, Fredrick Barbarossa, who set out to conquer the Holy Land. This name was completely appropriate since the goal of Operation Barbarossa was to capture the capitol of Russia, Moscow. Operation Barbarossa was an attack by the Germans to join Russia into the war with Germany. The plan of Operation Barbarossa started in July of 1940. Hitler decided he wanted to make an attack on Russia. He saw a threat to his oil supply in Romania who was one of Germany s allies. Hitler signed the first order of Barbarossa on December 18, 1940. Germany was breaking a non aggression pact with Russia on August 23, 1939 with this operation. Although, it wasn t just Germany who was paranoid; Russia was also suspicious of Germany. Germany s bold idea of attacking Russia wasn t just to take over Russian territory, but destroy the Red Army (Soviet army) with large battles and enormous amounts of demolition. After much strategy and months of preparation, Germany invaded Russia on June 22, 1941. Germany was well prepared with three separate army division in the North, South, and Central areas of Russia s eastern border. Germany had about three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. What Is The Reflection Of The Movie Shottas For this assignment, I decided to reflect on the film Shottas . The film begins in the streets of Kingston, Jamaica home of Biggs and Wayne, the two main characters. They lived within a very dangerous and violent town, which drove them into their own violent lifestyle. As young men, how the movie starts off, they rob the local drug dealers of a gun for a premeditated robbery. The money allowed for them to purchase visas to come to Miami, Florida. While in the United States, as adults, the two continue their criminal activities leading them to be deported back to their home in Jamaica. Analysis When it comes to extortion, in my opinion, there are different levels when it comes to classifying it as an organized crime. As young men, the boys decided to rob and shoot a delivery truck driver, in order, to rob him of his earnings. They commited a robbery, however, it modded them into become disciplined organized criminals and extortionist. I call this a minor because of the money they robbed the driver of was nothing compared to the amounts of money they were extorting from the upperworld and underworld people of power. Their behavior reflects the behaviors they have seen first hand within their communities. The young children within the community are exposed first hand to the violence of the local gangs and crimes. At this time, I believe, the issue was with the Jamaican systems, as in educational and law enforcement. Along with the issue of the communities lack of attention towards their new generations, is the issue of corruption. Aside from law enforcement being able to keep up with the criminal activity, and being able to stop it, is the political officials being corrupted. The film reflects on how the political world sometimes becomes involved in the organized crime world. Reflecting on a reading we did this semester, when the upperworld connects itself with organized criminals, it does not mean the official themself are involved in crimes themselves. However, it allows for the organized crime to succeed and become a thriving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Institutions And Its Impact On Society For sake of discussion, I used the words most influential only in a positive and/or inspiring sense, meaning society would benefit most from these social institutions. Conversely, I could have argued that the least influential social institutions are good and/or beneficial to our society, but our society chooses to ignore them; and the most influential social institution plague our society. However, I chose the former the positive and/or inspiring sense of the words. Social institutions are the organized, usual, or standard ways that a society meets its basic needs (P. 104). Moreover, functionalists identify five functional requisites that each society must meet to insure their survival (Pp. 104 106). With this in mind, Family and the Economy are the most influential social institutions in industrial society. Henslin stated in Chapter 3 that Our experiences in the family and other groups during childhood lay down the basic orientations to life (p. 94). Families offer guidance as well as protection from the larger, and sometimes hurtful, society. Furthermore, loving families provide socialization, identity, and comfort, all of which have an essential role in the development of the self (Pp. 104 106). The economy is the second most influential social institution in industrial societies. To fulfill basic needs, societies rely on a strong economy to produce and distribute goods and services. This piece of writing is inspired from real events of the writer s life, specifically his first voyage to the East in 1881. It is an account of the voyage and the hardships encountered at sea in which the writer depicts the regressive state of the ship he is traveling in, and the uncooperative sea that would lead to the whole crew s decay. This essay will study the ship, as a narrative space, from the narrator s perspective, the effect it has on those on board who are determined to save it and how this space is affected by the wider space of the sea. This strong wind repeatedly blows and destabilizes the ship that resists it. It represents a persisting unbeatable force of nature. Another important natural element is that of water. Halfway through my perilous rafting journey, there was a moment when time stood still. I witnessed a natural phenomenon which displayed the beauty of nature at its finest. The Nantahala is a whitewater river nestled in a valley with steep mountains flanking it on all sides. The forest it was situated in is the only temperate rain forest east of the Mississippi River. The rafting Industry has adopted this river as its premier destination. I was a 14 year old Boy Scout on a three day camping trip in the Nantahala Gorge. The weather was cloudy with periodic rain showers throughout the day and night. The temperature was at the mid 80 s but never got above the 90 s. Marketing is the core of communication between a corporation and its target audience, facilitated by widespread consumption and significantly influenced by consumer demand. It also serves as a platform that allows a company s message to exploit media platforms in the attempt to gain a successful customer response and induce behaviours that will propel economic expansion. Despite the indisputable benefits of marketing to companies and consumers, the occasional antagonistic motives behind its evident necessity is a point of interest because of how marketing approaches are being utilised as a transmission channel for corporations to promote unhealthy competition, such as eliciting the disrepute of another brand or falsifying product specifications for higher turnover, or induce psychological and behavioural change within the society. Nonetheless, marketing fosters innovation, prevents market complacency and functions as a catalyst for the promotion of consumer worthy products and services. The principle basis of a profitable relationship between a company and its consumer audience is marketing. Despite all the contributions from various people, the father of the polygraph is considered to be Leonard Keeler. Keeler created his own polygraph which included a device called the galvanic skin response which measures changes in skin s resistance to electricity, and therefore prespiration (The History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). He is regarded as the father of the polygraph because his polygraph combined the three main components that make up all modern polygraphs: the pneumograph (records respiration changes), cardiograph, and the galvanic skin response. • 40. Protest Music In The Black Lives Matter Movement Even in 2015 we still see how protest music is being used in the Black Lives Matter Movement. As protests and anger against the police grew again like it did in the late 80 s and early 90 s F Tha Police became the anthem for a new movement of civil rights protesters. In Ferguson, chants of hands up, don t shoot turned to F Tha Police as the protests turned to riots. In Denver, protesters dumped red paint over a police memorial and tagged the back of it f the police during a Black Lives Matter protest. A profound number of the college students I interviewed felt that Bob Dylan s 1960s The Times They are a Changin and Tupac Shakur 1992 Keep Ya Head Up a reference to the L.A. riots, spoke more to their reasoning. They talked about how these two songs relied on human logic to establish their arguments and convince them of their meaningfulness through their lyrics. Appeals to reason are derived from logic and adapted in such a way as to appeal to and have an effect on an audience (Bailey, 2006). The songs, The Times They Are a Changin and Keep Ya head up both explores the illogical nature of the traditional way of thinking at the time. Throughout the songs, both artist use verbal opposition and argumentative statements to logically criticize the traditional way of thinking about race and war. In various stanzas of Tupac song, he draws attention to various injustices and how blind the nation is when it still comes to race. He says They got money or wars, but can t feed tha poor, say their ain t no hope for the youth and the truth is. It can t no hope for tha future. We ain t meant to survive cause it s a setup and even if you re fed up, ya got keep your head up (Shakur, 1992). In the case of this song many of the students felt Tupac gave great reasoning with how we have money for wars but not to feed the poor and how the government and society does in fact setup some races to fail more than others. The students came to the revelation through the reasoning given how this still holds true even in today s society, with police brutality and unlawful stops because of the color of a person s ... • 42. Write An Essay On World Trade Organization The World Trade Organization (WTO) is a global organization that helps countries and producers of goods deal fairly and smoothly with conducting their business across international borders. It mainly does this through WTO agreements, which are negotiated and signed by a large majority of the trading nations in the world. The purpose of the WTO is to ensure that global trade commences freely, smoothly and predictably while also aiming to create economic peace and stability in the world through a multilateral system. This is based and applied to member states, currently 162 countries, that have consented and ratified the rules of the WTO in their individual countries. Simply put, these documents act as contracts that provide the legal framework for conducting business among nations, integrating into a country s domestic legal system, therefore, applying to local companies and nationals in the conduct of business internationally. For instance, if a company were to open an office or business in a foreign country, the rules of the WTO dictates how that can be done.1 The origin of the WTO has its roots in the creation of the International Trade Organization (ITO) at the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference. While the terms of the ITO charter were being drafted and debated and countries pondered whether or not they would be a part of the organization, representatives from a group of 17 nations assembled in Geneva and concluded an interim agreement (GATT) to lower trade barriers and ... In these programs men are typically placed in sexual situations fully clothed, while women are presented in provocative clothing or less. In 1998, $1billion was spent online on adult content, 69 percent of the total Internet content sales. In most commercial advertisements on television, women show more skin than men. Commercials use women to sell sex because it attracts more attention than men showing their bodies. For instance, Britney Spears, a singer whom many teenagers admire, appeared in a music commercial for Z100, the number one radio station in New York. Z100 promotes commercially hot music in modes such as pop, rock, and R B. In Z100 s new commercial, Britney Spears is wearing a beige outfit consisting of a tight tube top and small shorts that accent her chest and buttocks. After talking for a moment, she starts dancing with her back facing the camera. Viewers are visually drawn to the shape of her body. As spokesperson for Z100, Britney Spears is being used as a marketing tool to attract men and increase ratings. Z100 could have had a popular male in its commercial. Instead the company s executives chose a popular woman known for her hourglass figure because men prefer to look at young, shapely, nubile women. Television shows concentrate more and more on physical imagery showing women and their bodies exposed in an effort to increase ratings. The show Baywatch is about lifeguards, both men and women, working on the beach, but the females wear tight and particularly revealing bikinis.
