Lolo Loarlo Analysis
Sexuality plays a significant role in the novel. Be it Oscars inability to have sex, Yunior, the narrators,
constant search for a woman, the sexual abuse that Lola is victim of as a child or the constant
sexualization of Beli as a teen. In these cases, when analyzed, the reader can see that the treatment or,
mistreatment of these cases, is often transgenerational. Starting with Lola, the sexual abuse she
experienced was at a very young age, and when she tells her mother about it, she is told that she must
never speak of it again. This shame that comes with sexual abuse is often repressed by families and
victims alike. Lola refers to repressed memory as within a year I couldn t have told you what that
neighbor looked like, or even his name (Diaz 56). The way that Lola was sexualized at such an early
age, is the same way the she was sexualized on the streets of Santo Domingo as a teen. Yet, Beli does
not recognize these similarities. Often, young victims often feel a sense of blame because of the shame
that is felt by their families. The sexualization of young girl is not seen a major problem, that is
because woman in the novel are disposable. It does not matter if it the dominate Raffaele Trujillo, or
the weak Oscar Wao, they all see women as the next conquest, not matter how it is romanticized.
Beli is sadly seen as mostly a sex object. She never experienced true love. In fact, even many of the
descriptions in the novel explain men either trying or wanting to hit on her.

Argument Of Morality
The Authors have debated the (de)criminalization of Section 309 on three grounds, morality
constitutionality and rationality. The contention of the Authors is that there is an inherent flaw in the
mechanism of criminalizing an attempt to suicide, the reasons for which are dealt with below.
A. ARGUING THE QUOTIENT OF MORALITY
Christianity puts an absolute prohibition over the attempt to suicide by mortal beings. Suicide is
directly contrary to the will of God, and finds origin in the realm of the demonic host, who come only
to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Similarly, Hindu scriptures also portray the attempt of suicide to be
against the will of God and therefore, immoral.
The three major religions of India, namely Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, all proclaim that suicide
as unacceptable. Teachings of both the Bible and Quran say that as God is the one who gives life, He
is the only one entitled to end it, and thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hinduism considers human life is seen as the highest form of life and to cut that short would be
considered bad karma and would send a person back to a lower form of life. If this life is cut short
prematurely, then the person will become wandering spirit until the allotted time for them to move
onto the next life. Sati, the outlawed practice of a widow joining her dead husband on the funeral pyre,
could also be seen as suicide, but the cultural and social issues here are somewhat different. Hinduism
does have some acceptable forms of suicide that are considered self sacrifice rather than suicide:
agnipravesa offering of the body to fire, prayopravesa offering of the body to air, and samadhi offering
of the body to the earth. These ascetic religious practices can only be carried out when a person has
reached a high level of spirituality and has no responsibilities in this

In Memory Of Wb Auden Analysis
Representations of perspectives, notions, and circumstances embody political principles and their
repercussions, often emphasising the disconnect between societies and their leaders. This idea is
particularly evident in WH Auden s poems, In Memory of WB Yeats (1939) and September 1 1939
(1939) which portrays a Modernist s opinions on political events and personalities while acting as
vehicles for expounding political opinions. Similarly, Malala Yousafzai s Speech to the United Nations
(2013) explores the importance of free speech when subjugated, to regain freedom. Hence, both texts
offer a socio political insight into the necessity of an unconstrained voice in breaking through unjust
institutions that suppress and erode our free will. In In Memory of WB Yeats, Auden parallels
historical and political events and personalities, using the legacy of WB Yeats to represent the
necessity of powerful literature in influencing political perspectives. He presents the poem in the form
of an elegy to show his admiration of Yeats influence despite his death as explicated in words of a
dead man are modified in the guts of the living . The juxtaposition of dead and living pronounces the
power of poetry and its timelessness. The metaphor For poetry makes nothing happen ... it survives, a
way of happening, a mouth, exemplifies the immortality of poetry and its ability to revolutionise
politics through the ideas spoken by people. Auden presents that the individual voice can shift

Summary : Behind the CBC s decision to fire Jian Ghomeshi
Correlated to The Globe and Mail news article, Friday October 31st, 2014, the Canadian Broadcasting

The Effects Of Pollution In China
When you walk into a store and pick up a few manufactured items, odds are they were produced in
china. That being said, it is safe to say that china is a global leader in manufacturing and international
exports. But what does this mean for china and its residents? In recent years, its population has seen
that it means increased pollution as well as health risks. As China has become more globalized, it s
major cities have shot up, and pollution has gone through the roof. Resulting from the industrial
revolution, China and its cities have both grown and been destroyed.
Shanghai, for example, Chinas main center for world trade is the wealthiest as well as the largest city
in china. As the industry in the city has grown, the pollution has followed right along. The city is
Chinas busiest cargo and container ports meaning there is high traffic of container ships polluting the
air. Recent reports tell us that an estimated ninety percent of Shanghais pollution stems from motor
vehicle emissions, coal burning and the heavy amount of industry that takes place.
For the residents of the China, the pollution is a thick smog draping the city that is only thickening by
the moment. This has caused many health risks for residents, increase in major respiratory issues, and
instilled a fear in residents to go outside. When you take a look at the population of china, you don t
see people playing outside or sunbathing, you see them waking around with masks on their face in

Occlusal Detections
Clinical Tip #11
Unless your work environment is a pediatric office, or in an oral surgeon s office, you will not be
requested to take many occlusal projections. However, it is important to remember how this task is
achieved, because intermittently in your career you will be asked to take occlusal projections. You
must be ready for all types of radiography.

How My Own Culture And Identity Influence My Interactions...
How my own culture and identity influence my interactions with others? Culture is defined as asocial

You Can Do It Baby By Leslie Garrety Analysis
Are Parents Actually Against You? The article You Can Do It, Baby written by Leslie Garrett portrays
an idea where parents, teachers, and adults are working against children when it involves their future.
The article focuses on the fact that most adults tell children that they can be whatever they want to be.
The speaker is a young twelve year old girl. In this article, she is giving her opinion on how all
children are told they can be anything they want to be, when in reality, they can t. The author of this
article makes the point that she believes it causes long term harm on children by telling them this
instead of helping them in their future. She states this causes children to consider themselves as a
failure when they cannot become whatever they want. Sometimes, this can cause children to feel
entitled or disappointed in life when they find out the truth. In the article, Garrett states her idea that
adults should not be telling this to kids because it isn t true. She proves this by providing research and
references. There is an editorial cartoon that is not directly connected to this article, but has the same
idea as Garrett. The cartoon helps strengthen her idea without having as many outside sources. These
two articles use rhetoric to similar effect. In this article, Leslie Garret provides a wide range of
research that all comes to the same result. The research focuses on asking the children want they want
to be when they grow up. Most children s answers are something like these: professional athlete,
doctor, teacher, singer, or an artist. The likelihood of every child being able to become one of these
things is very low. When asking a child this question, how many respond with a taxi or a bus driver?
Or even a trash man? Not many children dream of having jobs like that when they grow up. These
conclusions from multiple studies all come to an agreement that telling children they can be anything
they want to be causes more long term negative effects than positive effects. Many children in these
studies are shown as not engaged or dissatisfied and even disappointed. If a child has such high hopes
that they can be a professional athlete, they will not be happy with what they end up doing as a

Esters Lab
Flavor Lab
Leslie Perez
FST 426L.1
Purpose
The objective of this experiment is to prepare and identify several types of esters by the process of
dehydration synthesis using an alcohol with an acid.
Introduction
The process by which esters are formed is a reversible reaction called esterification. They are formed
when alcohols react with carboxylic acids in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. This
reaction is known as a condensation reaction. In the reaction above, the hydroxyl group ( OH) in the
carboxylic acid is replaced by the alkoxy group ( R*O) of the alcohol yielding an ester and water.
Esters are used as constituents of perfumes, cosmetics, and surfactants, just to mention a few
examples. In addition to this they are used in the food industry for flavoring of sweet and margarine.

is shown in the last column of this table as well as how the team member identified the odors of the
ester produced. Table 2 shows the results for all 5 groups in the class. Most of the esters produced in
this laboratory experiment were easily identified as specific fragances such as banana, wintergreen,
and menthol. It is shown in the table, that banana was the most identified one followed by tube M and
tube A. The rest of the esters, E and B, had more variability in the identification of esters while C was
identified as mouthwash, which can be associated to the menthol flavor and odor. Ester in tube B was
the hardest to be identified according to Table 2, since it had 4 different associated smells to it.
Students identified one of the odors as expo marker which can be due to experimental error in which
the ester did not fully react and the solution smelled more like alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol), which
are ingredients that most dry erase markers such as the brand Expo

Unraveling The Enigma Of Christopher Mccandless
Unraveling the Enigma of Christopher McCandless Throughout the novel, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer
sincerely disentangles the haunting enigma of Chris McCandless. By tracing the places, people and
experiences intertwined in the life of McCandless, Krakauer narrates the life story of a puzzling
corpse found in a bus buried in the Alaskan frontier in a truly authentic way of storytelling. Although
Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact with and experts
from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead man s life is
trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. Common connections such as
similar paternal stress made outstanding impacts in both men s lives, starting at a young age.
Furthermore, a sort of agitation with the soul ailed Krakauer and McCandless fueled by a reckless
persona confined in the modern world. Lastly, a craving for human contact when in total isolation
troubled both the author and subject in their adventures narrowed in the natural world. The mutual
bond apparent to the reader between Krakauer and McCandless makes the writing in the novel sincere
enabling Krakauer to speak of a dead s man life with profound authority and truth. Unconditional
understanding through shared paternal issues, agitation of the soul, and need for human contact grants
Krakauer access to divulge into the conundrum of Chis McCandless and authority to earnestly narrate

Double burden of malnutrition in India
Double burden of malnutrition in India Undernutrition and Overnutrition
Introduction
The nutritional double burden, encompassing both undernutrition (stunting, underweight and wasting)
and overnutrition (overweight and obesity), has become an important public health challenge in many
developing countries. Globally, an estimated 99 million under five year olds were underweight in
2012, with the low and middle income countries of Asia accounting for more than 70 percent of these
undernourished children (WHO, 2012a). Although many developing countries have achieved
significant reductions in the prevalence of undernutrition during the past two decades, the pace of
decline was slow and insufficient to meet the Millennium Development Goals ... Show more content

Therefore, it is important that the issues of nutritional double burden in many developing countries
need to be addressed in the context of socioeconomic status. This could help identify the complex
interplay of social, economic, and political determinants of undernutrition and overnutrition.
Many developing countries are growing economically, and it can be expected that the prevalence of
undernutrition would decrease and obesity would become a problem among wealthy and privileged
classes. However, research has shown that obesity and associated non communicable diseases(NCDs)
are increasingly affecting all sectors of society, and the poor or disadvantaged are more likely to be
vulnerable to these health hazards (Khandelwal et al., 2013). Also, it can be seen that many
developing countries are still incapable of dealing with these health challenges of nutritional double
burden, therefore in order to minimize adverse nutritional outcomes, there need to be a reconsideration
of current policies and further understanding of these health challenges.
Prevalence and consequences of nutritional conditions in India
India is one of the developing countries which are experiencing multiple transitions in its nutritional
pattern along with a rapid socioeconomic development. The pace of poverty reduction in India has
been accelerating during the last ten years, but over 50 percent of the population in India is still

Different Types Of Identifiers In Scala
Variables in Scala are declared using the keywords val or var. The difference between the two are that
vals can not be changed, they are immutable the program will throw an exception if one attempts to
modify them, this is mainly useful for functional programming. For declaring functions the def
keyword is used followed by a list of parameters in parentheses and then a colon, followed by the
type, the function returns and then an equals sign followed by a block. For example: def timesTwo( a:
Int ): Int = { a * 2 } would declare a function that multiples the parameter by two and retruns the
result. There are a few different types of identifiers in Scala. The first is the Alphanumeric Identifiers,
these are used for most identifiers in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constructor of a class is actually the body and the arguments that would normally be passed to the
constructor are listed as parameters of the class iteself. Auxiliary constructs can be defined using the
method name this however the first call in the function must be a call to another constructor. Objects
are similar to classes in Scala, however they don t take parameters and there can only a single instance
of an object. Scala also provides a subtype of standard classes called case classes . The case keyword
tells the compiler to automatically generate additional methods in the class. These methods are: apply
which allow you to ommit the new keyword when creating an instance of the class, unapply which

Jamaican Creole Poem Analysis
The Poetry within Jamaican Creole in a Linguistic Imperalised England It is clear from the poem to
see how Linton feels about the racially hostile environment in which he lives. He chooses to show his
social identity with his strong Jamaican accent which conveys to the reader that he is of immigrant
status, this is fundamental to this poem. Within this essay, I wish to analyze his reasoning for choosing
to express himself with a post colonial approach by using his Jamaican Creole and how he chooses to
combat the conflict of the position of language in the development of colonization. In his most
repetitive stanza, which takes the form of a chorus in spoken form, Linton says. Inglan is a bitch dere s
no escapin it Inglan is a bitch dere s no runnin whey fram it There is poetry in profanity, Often
profanity can set an underlying feeling and strengthen an emotion a writer wants to get across in his
material. The repetition of the word bitch Linton expresses his frustration and disappointment for
British imperialism as he tries to make the most of what seems like a cemented situation and yet is still
confronted with institutionalized racism. In the thirteenth Stanza Linton expresses the exploitation of
immigrant workers by saying mi know dem have work, work in abundant yet still, dem mek mi
redundant now, at fifty five mi gettin quite ol yet still, dem sen mi fi goh draw dole The experience in
inner cities had by immigrants in the 1950 s and 60 s was, to say

Humpback Whale Definition
Rescuers on Sunday morning were planning to spare a child humpback whale that got stranded only
20 feet from West Seattle shore, yet endeavors fizzled and the youthful one died, reports say.
The 30 foot adolescent humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) was discovered caught in the
shallows close West Seattle s Fauntleroy Ferry dock in the small hours of the morning on August 7.
That day, several individuals rushed to the ship terminal and endeavored to help in protecting the
stranded creature, as indicated by a report from King5 News.
Tragically, endeavors were futile. A representative from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) says that the child humpback whale kicked the bucket hours after the fact.
What was the deal?
Lynne Barre, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers have yet to decide the reason for the creature s demise, however tissue tests have been
taken. The youthful one s body was secured with whale lice, a sign of weakness, agents say.
Then, Huggins says authorities were unrealistic to choose whether to tow the well evolved creature to
somewhere else for a full necropsy or the tissue tests taken would suffice for an examination.
There are heaps of logistics required in doing an examination, says Huggins.
Barre says it is not exceptional to see humpback whales in Puget Sound on the grounds that the
populace has become in the course of recent years.
Indeed, even along these lines, NOAA s National Marine Fisheries Service suggests that a few
sections of the whale populace in the Northwest Pacific ought to be recorded as debilitated.
Barre says sightings of humpback whales have turned out to be less uncommon than they used to be,
however it is still unordinary to discover live whales get stranded.
In June, a 35 foot humpback whale was discovered dead in the Bremerton ship, yet a full necropsy did
not unveil the explanation behind its

INTRODUCTION Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate
competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare. A friend of mine, the founder of a
company that grew to a billion dollars in annual revenue, best expressed the power of teamwork when
he once told me, If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you
could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time. Whenever I repeat
that adage to a group of leaders, they immediately nod their heads, but in a desperate sort of way. They
seem to grasp the truth of it while simultaneously surrendering to the impossibility of actually making
it happen. And that is where the rarity of teamwork comes into play. For all the attention that it has
received over the years from scholars, coaches, teachers, and the media, teamwork is as elusive as it

Platos Symposium, And Ovid s The Art Of Love
Destiny or Deception
Lao Tzu, one of ancient China s greatest philosophers once said when asked to explain what love is,
[it] is of all passions the strongest, for it attacks simultaneously the head, the heart and the senses.
Since the beginning of time, writers and philosophers have been trying to discover the origins of this
attack, and many attribute different reasons for this immense feeling. In both Plato s Symposium, and
Ovid s The Art of Love, Aristophanes and Ovid attempt to address the genesis of love by asking: what
is the feeling that drives us towards another human: Is it physical attraction? Sexual desire?
Experience in the field of dating? Or is this attack of the senses due to something beyond our
comprehension, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole premise of his book, is to give advice to the man who needs instruction in loving (105). If
love were something destined, the chase would simply be unnecessary, and the advice on how to love
would be useless.
Aristophanes defines love as the pursuit of wholeness, implying that true love eventually leads you to
goodness. He goes on to say that once one finds their other half, they are overwhelmed, to an amazing
extent, with affection, concern, and love. This rather positive view of love is quite opposite from Ovid
s view. Ovid treats love like a realist, recognizing that it can be heartbreaking, even going on to
compare it to war. Ovid also warns his readers about the dangers of love by saying if you re uncertain
at all, never step over the sill (183). In other words, he is encouraging them to love rationally, because
he is aware of the dangers of heartbreak. In fact, Ovid wrote an entire book about how to deal with
heartbreak, titled The Remedies for Love. There is nothing in Aristophanes speech, or The Symposium
itself that mentions how to deal with getting over someone, further emphasizing the idea that the
greeks had a rather idealistic view of the emotion, not fully recognizing its detrimental effects.
When it comes to approaching love, Ovid recognizes that the right person is not going to come to you
floating down from the heavens (106), and that is why he writes his book in the first place: to guide
others in finding a match of sorts.

Punishment And Punishment
Punishment and the Death Penalty
The news media reports countless stories of crimes that have been committed throughout the country.
Some are so outrageous and almost comical, like a thief trying to steal a cash register from a drive thru
window at a fast food restaurant to other stories that make us seriously question the future of
humanity. I have often judged criminals and the crimes they are accused of committing even before
their guilt is proven. Some of the crimes reported are so vile that they elicit a visceral response within
me and I find myself thinking that they should just be put to death. A closer examination of
punishment and the death penalty made me question my own ethics which led to an unexpected
change in my beliefs regarding the morality of punishment and the death penalty.
I his book Contemporary Moral Issues, Diversity and Consensus, Edward Hinman points out that our
country, which has about 5 percent of the world s population, has 25 percent of prisoners (Hinman
134). This statistical data is quite sobering because while reading it in passing, one can deduce that our
society is full of criminals and that in itself is frightening. However, in closer examination I think it
proves that we are doing something wrong, that our approach to crime and punishment is failing. On a
more personal level, it caused me to conclude that my quick reaction to punishment and specifically
the death penalty exacerbates this problem. In conjunction, a failing criminal

Full Metal Jacket And A Clockwork Orange Essay
A war film like Full Metal Jacket, does not aim to glorify war, but to show the distortion of morality in
it, the romanticizing of violence to the point of blurring the lines between profane and holy. With the
analysis of the film s plot, the ideas it chooses to enforce, the visual, and narrative techniques he used,
one gets the impression that Kubrick, focuses on the image of a man being and becoming a killer
machine. This again is a repeated trope that is a main narrative point in A Clockwork Orange. In both
stories a man is being re constructed by the establishment with the purpose of good for the society.
While a notable parallel between both films, in Full Metal Jacket this trope is reversed. In A
Clockwork Orange one man is re programmed to not be able to do evil or harm in a society engulfed
by chaos, while in Full Metal Jacket, multiple people are going through the opposite conditioning. In
the training, the future marines are programmed to aspire to be a killing machine, to love their weapon
as if it is their companion and to consider killing as a holy act. An example of that is Sgt. Hartman s
approach and degradation of religious motives. Lines like God ... Show more content on

to something necessary, pleasurable and even holy. As the soldiers are all looking at the dying girl,

humane point of view, as he kills her to end her suffering, getting his first confirmed

Montag s Influences in Farenheit 451 Essay
In the novel, FAHRENHEIT 451 by Ray Bradbury, Guy Montag lives in an inverted society, where
firemen make fires instead of put them out, and pedestrians are used as bowling pins for cars that are
excessively speeding. The people on this society are hypnotized by giant wall size televisions and
seashell radios that are attached to everyone s ears. People in Montag s society do not think for
themselves or even generate their own opinions; everything is given to them by the television stations
they watch. In this society, if someone is in possession of a book, their books are burned by the
firemen, but not only their books, but their entire home. Montag begins realizing that the things in this
society are not right. Montag is influenced and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The psychiatrist wants to know why I go out and hike around in the forests and watch the birds and
collect butterflies (Bradbury, 23). This quotation shows that Clarisse is considered different in this
society, and she must see a psychiatrist because she admires nature. Clarisse influences Montag by
admiring nature, because Montag is now starting to realize the beauty of nature, and beginning to
develop his own opinion. Clarisse strongly influenced Montag after her death. We cannot tell the
precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, that is a last drop
which makes it run over; so in a series of kindness there is at last one which makes the heart run over
(Bradbury, 71) This quotation shows that Montag is starting to have feelings unlike the rest of society.
Clarisse has come to influence Montag through her questions, her admiration of nature and her death.
Clarisse influenced Montag enough to get him to begin having feelings. Although Clarisse influenced
Montag to begin feeling emotions, the fire on Elm Street was a big influence for Montag. Secondly,
the fire at 11 Elm Street greatly influenced Montag. The fire showed Montag how important books
are. The fire also makes Montag curious about why books would be so important that the lady would
die for them. The fire on Elm Street influenced Montag by the lady dying for her books, Montag
stealing the books and his fellow firemen not feeling any remorse. When the lady

diet; and self esteem, the criterion variable was body image dissatisfaction. The study consisted of 50
participants, 35 females and 15 males. All participants were given a self report questionnaire, which
contained 16 questions that measured the four predictor variables and the criterion variable. The

  • 3. Lolo Loarlo Analysis Sexuality plays a significant role in the novel. Be it Oscars inability to have sex, Yunior, the narrators, constant search for a woman, the sexual abuse that Lola is victim of as a child or the constant sexualization of Beli as a teen. In these cases, when analyzed, the reader can see that the treatment or, mistreatment of these cases, is often transgenerational. Starting with Lola, the sexual abuse she experienced was at a very young age, and when she tells her mother about it, she is told that she must never speak of it again. This shame that comes with sexual abuse is often repressed by families and victims alike. Lola refers to repressed memory as within a year I couldn t have told you what that neighbor looked like, or even his name (Diaz 56). The way that Lola was sexualized at such an early age, is the same way the she was sexualized on the streets of Santo Domingo as a teen. Yet, Beli does not recognize these similarities. Often, young victims often feel a sense of blame because of the shame that is felt by their families. The sexualization of young girl is not seen a major problem, that is because woman in the novel are disposable. It does not matter if it the dominate Raffaele Trujillo, or the weak Oscar Wao, they all see women as the next conquest, not matter how it is romanticized. Beli is sadly seen as mostly a sex object. She never experienced true love. In fact, even many of the descriptions in the novel explain men either trying or wanting to hit on her. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Argument Of Morality The Authors have debated the (de)criminalization of Section 309 on three grounds, morality constitutionality and rationality. The contention of the Authors is that there is an inherent flaw in the mechanism of criminalizing an attempt to suicide, the reasons for which are dealt with below. A. ARGUING THE QUOTIENT OF MORALITY Christianity puts an absolute prohibition over the attempt to suicide by mortal beings. Suicide is directly contrary to the will of God, and finds origin in the realm of the demonic host, who come only to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Similarly, Hindu scriptures also portray the attempt of suicide to be against the will of God and therefore, immoral. The three major religions of India, namely Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, all proclaim that suicide as unacceptable. Teachings of both the Bible and Quran say that as God is the one who gives life, He is the only one entitled to end it, and thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hinduism considers human life is seen as the highest form of life and to cut that short would be considered bad karma and would send a person back to a lower form of life. If this life is cut short prematurely, then the person will become wandering spirit until the allotted time for them to move onto the next life. Sati, the outlawed practice of a widow joining her dead husband on the funeral pyre, could also be seen as suicide, but the cultural and social issues here are somewhat different. Hinduism does have some acceptable forms of suicide that are considered self sacrifice rather than suicide: agnipravesa offering of the body to fire, prayopravesa offering of the body to air, and samadhi offering of the body to the earth. These ascetic religious practices can only be carried out when a person has reached a high level of spirituality and has no responsibilities in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. In Memory Of Wb Auden Analysis Representations of perspectives, notions, and circumstances embody political principles and their repercussions, often emphasising the disconnect between societies and their leaders. This idea is particularly evident in WH Auden s poems, In Memory of WB Yeats (1939) and September 1 1939 (1939) which portrays a Modernist s opinions on political events and personalities while acting as vehicles for expounding political opinions. Similarly, Malala Yousafzai s Speech to the United Nations (2013) explores the importance of free speech when subjugated, to regain freedom. Hence, both texts offer a socio political insight into the necessity of an unconstrained voice in breaking through unjust institutions that suppress and erode our free will. In In Memory of WB Yeats, Auden parallels historical and political events and personalities, using the legacy of WB Yeats to represent the necessity of powerful literature in influencing political perspectives. He presents the poem in the form of an elegy to show his admiration of Yeats influence despite his death as explicated in words of a dead man are modified in the guts of the living . The juxtaposition of dead and living pronounces the power of poetry and its timelessness. The metaphor For poetry makes nothing happen ... it survives, a way of happening, a mouth, exemplifies the immortality of poetry and its ability to revolutionise politics through the ideas spoken by people. Auden presents that the individual voice can shift ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The article You Can Do It, Baby written by Leslie Garrett portrays an idea where parents, teachers, and adults are working against children when it involves their future. The article focuses on the fact that most adults tell children that they can be whatever they want to be. The speaker is a young twelve year old girl. In this article, she is giving her opinion on how all children are told they can be anything they want to be, when in reality, they can t. The author of this article makes the point that she believes it causes long term harm on children by telling them this instead of helping them in their future. She states this causes children to consider themselves as a failure when they cannot become whatever they want. Sometimes, this can cause children to feel entitled or disappointed in life when they find out the truth. In the article, Garrett states her idea that adults should not be telling this to kids because it isn t true. She proves this by providing research and references. There is an editorial cartoon that is not directly connected to this article, but has the same idea as Garrett. The cartoon helps strengthen her idea without having as many outside sources. These two articles use rhetoric to similar effect. In this article, Leslie Garret provides a wide range of research that all comes to the same result. The research focuses on asking the children want they want to be when they grow up. Most children s answers are something like these: professional athlete, doctor, teacher, singer, or an artist. The likelihood of every child being able to become one of these things is very low. When asking a child this question, how many respond with a taxi or a bus driver? Or even a trash man? Not many children dream of having jobs like that when they grow up. These conclusions from multiple studies all come to an agreement that telling children they can be anything they want to be causes more long term negative effects than positive effects. Many children in these studies are shown as not engaged or dissatisfied and even disappointed. Esters Lab Flavor Lab Leslie Perez FST 426L.1 Purpose The objective of this experiment is to prepare and identify several types of esters by the process of dehydration synthesis using an alcohol with an acid. Introduction The process by which esters are formed is a reversible reaction called esterification. They are formed when alcohols react with carboxylic acids in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. This reaction is known as a condensation reaction. In the reaction above, the hydroxyl group ( OH) in the carboxylic acid is replaced by the alkoxy group ( R*O) of the alcohol yielding an ester and water. Esters are used as constituents of perfumes, cosmetics, and surfactants, just to mention a few examples. In addition to this they are used in the food industry for flavoring of sweet and margarine. It is shown in the table, that banana was the most identified one followed by tube M and tube A. The rest of the esters, E and B, had more variability in the identification of esters while C was identified as mouthwash, which can be associated to the menthol flavor and odor. Ester in tube B was the hardest to be identified according to Table 2, since it had 4 different associated smells to it. Unraveling The Enigma Of Christopher Mccandless Unraveling the Enigma of Christopher McCandless Throughout the novel, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer sincerely disentangles the haunting enigma of Chris McCandless. By tracing the places, people and experiences intertwined in the life of McCandless, Krakauer narrates the life story of a puzzling corpse found in a bus buried in the Alaskan frontier in a truly authentic way of storytelling. Although Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact with and experts from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead man s life is trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. Globally, an estimated 99 million under five year olds were underweight in 2012, with the low and middle income countries of Asia accounting for more than 70 percent of these undernourished children (WHO, 2012a). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is important that the issues of nutritional double burden in many developing countries need to be addressed in the context of socioeconomic status. This could help identify the complex interplay of social, economic, and political determinants of undernutrition and overnutrition. Many developing countries are growing economically, and it can be expected that the prevalence of undernutrition would decrease and obesity would become a problem among wealthy and privileged classes. However, research has shown that obesity and associated non communicable diseases(NCDs) are increasingly affecting all sectors of society, and the poor or disadvantaged are more likely to be vulnerable to these health hazards (Khandelwal et al., 2013). Also, it can be seen that many developing countries are still incapable of dealing with these health challenges of nutritional double burden, therefore in order to minimize adverse nutritional outcomes, there need to be a reconsideration of current policies and further understanding of these health challenges. He goes on to say that once one finds their other half, they are overwhelmed, to an amazing extent, with affection, concern, and love. This rather positive view of love is quite opposite from Ovid s view. Ovid treats love like a realist, recognizing that it can be heartbreaking, even going on to compare it to war. Ovid also warns his readers about the dangers of love by saying if you re uncertain at all, never step over the sill (183). In other words, he is encouraging them to love rationally, because he is aware of the dangers of heartbreak. In fact, Ovid wrote an entire book about how to deal with heartbreak, titled The Remedies for Love. There is nothing in Aristophanes speech, or The Symposium itself that mentions how to deal with getting over someone, further emphasizing the idea that the greeks had a rather idealistic view of the emotion, not fully recognizing its detrimental effects. This again is a repeated trope that is a main narrative point in A Clockwork Orange. In both stories a man is being re constructed by the establishment with the purpose of good for the society. While a notable parallel between both films, in Full Metal Jacket this trope is reversed. In A Clockwork Orange one man is re programmed to not be able to do evil or harm in a society engulfed by chaos, while in Full Metal Jacket, multiple people are going through the opposite conditioning.
