Elk Cloner
The Elk Cloner Virus
As weird as the name could be, however, it all started by just a way to prank friends and made it to
be the first Boot Sector Virus ever to be created and spread around quickly.
In 1982, Rick Skrenta , A computer nerd thought of a way to prank his school cliques through a
game , Apple ii games , without even touching their computers. He defined it as a program that can
infect other programs by modifying them to include a possibly evolved copy of itself. (Lemos, 2003)
How can that be done? Basically by altering their flobby disk , it replicate itself and also it can be
saved on the computer memory so it destroys any flobby disk enter the computer . The idea of it to

African American Oppression Between 1865 And 1905
Oppression is a common theme in history. Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are
inevitably strengthened by the oppression through commitment and perseverance. African
Americans were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history. The
emancipation of slavery in 1865 signified the slow fight for freedom and equality for African
Americans. Between 1865 and 1905 they suffered extreme oppression, but remained united in their
fight to gain independence.
In 1865 all slaves were emancipated which declared them free, but racism was far from over. In the
South, freed African Americans continued to be killed as an act of racial violence. Between the
period of 1865 1905 African Americans fought to defeat their oppression. By the year 1905,
freedmen were still fighting for the same rights they were fighting for in 1865. African Americans
were oppressed in many regards, a great example of this is the black codes. These codes were
written into Louisiana law which prohibited blacks from passing within the limits of said parish
without a special permit, renting or buying a house within said parish, working without a white
person supervising them, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

could have accepted they would never have equal rights, but they remained steadfast in their pursuit
of equality. As time passed, their efforts gained momentum and strength. In 1905, schools were
built for African Americans. This was paramount for the culture because it signified imminent

Review Of The Little Albert Experiment

John Watson and Classical Conditioning
In psychology, respondent behavior is behavior learned through classical conditioning. This type of
learning is defined as a way in which one learns to link two or more stimuli while also anticipating
events; or other wise, known as a kind of learning that occurs when a conditioned stimulus is paired
with an unconditioned stimulus. While classical conditioning was accidently discovered by Ivan
Pavlov, John B. Watson was interested in taking Pavlov s experiences a bit further. Watson s
ultimate goal was to research how classical conditioning could be seen through humans and not just
through animals. An in depth look on John Watson s actual experiment can be better explained and
found in the article titled, The Little Albert Experiment on http://psychology.about.com/od
/classicpsychologystudies/a/little albert experiment.htm.
John Watson s Contribution
Classical conditioning is identified as the type of learning where the nature of the research
conditions a fear response to the subject being experimented on. An implication of the research for
human behavior involving conditioned fear response would describe how a child might be afraid of
storms because of the partnership between the storm and the sound of the loud thunder. This being
said, John B. Watson wanted to further explain this reasoning of classical conditioning through his
own experiment that many people call The Little

Insanity Defense Expectation
Feeling ill? Commit a crime, you are protected!
Criminal verdicts are always being watched by our community because citizens seek protection by
law enforcement. Although the criminal justice system has established a foundation which is
expected to promote public safety and punishment of criminals, they do not always live up to that
capacity. One aspect of this is the insanity defense expectation. Verdicts are revealed after
analyzations of criminals intent to commit crimes are determined. If it is proven that a person had
no knowledge or sanity in committing a crime or breaking a law, that person will not be punished
nor charged as a criminal. I strongly disagree with this method of decisions by our judicial system.
No leeway should be available ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Literacy and competency are essential to these criminal investigations. Any false allegations,
misjudgment or misunderstanding of the case can set a criminal free within seconds. The layman
claims that sane men are escaping responsibility for their crimes on the plea of insanity by reason
of the venality of experts, the strong and corrupt partisanship of counsel for the refense, and the
incompetency of the judge and the prosecuting attorney (Insanity and Criminal Responsibility).
There are many individuals who are involved in the sanctions of these cases and although they
maintain proper credibility, the cases will prosper according to their beliefs and findings. It is
understood that mental health professionals, physicians and psychologists stand ground in front of
the jury with hopes of proving the individual sane or insane. The insanity defense traces its roots
back to the 1843 assassination attempt on British Prime Minister Robert Peel. In this case, a
psychotic individual named Daniel M Naghten intentionally and with premeditation killed an
assistant to a prime minister of England because he believed he was being persecuted. The
defendant plead insanity at the trial. The prosecution attempted to prove sanity by illustrating M
Nagten s behavior in planning and executing the attack. Several physicians testified as to the
defendant s even though they never examined the defendant; their conclusions were based on
hearing the testimony and observing the defendant s behavior. After the judge gave weight to the
physician s opinion, the prosecution agreed to stop the case and the defendant was declared
insane (The John Hincklney Trial). In other words, insanity cases are in the hands of professionals
that are able to evaluate, analyze and conclude based on behavior, excluding mental illness.
Although these processes change drastically over time, the basis of the cases will always be

Treatment Options of Acme Essay
The word acne comes from the word acme meaning the highest point , which comes from the Greek
akme meaning point or spot .
Acne is a skin condition that may occur due to hormonal changes during puberty or even during
pregnancy. Some attribute acne to external factors like greasy cosmetics and unhealthy diet. The
claims of a person s diet affecting their acne has not been verified yet. Another popular claim
links stress to acne, however, stress does not cause acne but it can contribute to worsen the
condition. It is characterized by visible blackheads, pustules, cysts and whiteheads. It can affect
any part of the body, like the face, neck, chest, shoulders or back and can occur in people of all age
groups. Although, not a dangerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More often than not, people wanting an extreme solution for acne opt for laser surgery which is
said to minimize the scars left behind on the skin. Another common treatment sought out by the
dermatologists today is ACCUTANE. Since, it affects people of all age groups, an effective
treatment is yet to be found that will have the same effect for everybody. But since, everybody s
skin is different, no such common remedy exists and only a dermatologist can examine an
individual s skin and suggest the best possible course of action for the treatment.
ACCUTANE:
Also known by the name Isotretinoin or (13 cis retinoic acid), Accutane is used for the treatment
of severe cases of acne. It is a form of vitamin A which reduces the amount of oil released by oil
glands in the skin, and helps the skin renew itself more quickly. Accutane has long been
questioned regarding the uneven balance of its pros and cons with the cons weighing on the
heavier side. It has a long list of particularly dangerous side effects associated with it due to
which it can be prescribed only by specific dermatologists in consultation with the manufacturers.
It is administered orally in pill form and is advised to be taken with a meal containing appropriate
fat content, normally for 15 20 weeks (3.5 4.5 months), although it is also sometimes prescribed at
lower dosages for up to six months or longer. It is strictly advised to the patient to follow the

Government Vs Government Intervention
The papers of history books, is full of the names of artists who died in poverty, and who weren t
cherished for what they had created. For many years, it has been argued that one of the ways in
which this can be prevented, is the government intervention. Although, it has been amply mentioned
from time to time, by differnet scholars, that governments should not intervene in people s lives,
and the government s stepping in is extenuated in just a scant of situations, but sometimes, there isn
t an alternative way. Although it may seem irrelevant to Art, consider the case of the Steam Engine,
which many believe is invented by James Watt. The truth is this equipment was invented about one
hundred years before Mr. Watt even fathomed such an idea; It was a French physician, who first
came up with the idea of a steam engine, but the government didn t support him, and as a result, his
invention had gone to waste. So the government support is nothing to be neglected in the case of
inventions and technologies.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consider a musician, who is forced to contribute a song to a presidential campaign, the result could
not be interpreted as a pure art, but at the best case, it would be a commercial entity. Undoubtedly,
the probability of these cases to happen, is much more in a country which is ruled by a totalitarian
government. So, when lauding and encouraging the need for the governments to support artists, we
must not forget which kind of government are we talking about. In summary, there are pros and
cons in pushing the argument for the government intervention to support artists. We should
consider both sides : the case of an artist, who is living in extreme pauperization, and his
creativeness is deteriorating; and the case in which an artist s work is being jeopradized by a
totalitarian government that is dictating what should be created and what should

Evaluating Revenue Systems
Perry Christensen (2015) provide insight on the design and administration of a revenue system,
as well as how it is evaluated. A revenue system is a collection of sources that is used by the
government that are extracted through the means of tax and charges. Designing a revenue system
is not merely created from scratch; it is an older system that has been modified to comply with
and be accepted by society. These systems have been trending since the beginning of
socioeconomic development and continue to evolve. Revenue systems are evaluated through a set
of criteria; economic efficiency, equity, feasibility, and adequacy. It is noted that transparency is
also part of the criteria, but it is a separate criterion in itself. Research and evidence examine the set
of criteria by focusing on the income taxand how it has been the main source of revenue for the US
Federal government. There have been many innovations in the technology of tax collection that
have been implemented in the US, and have also been adopted globally by both developed and
developing countries. Efforts to improve current systems and policies are examined based on the set
used to evaluate the revenue system.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the question of how stable can it be, if it will create enough revenue, and if it will be accepted

but they do discuss in depth the process by which government builds and plans it budget with the
revenue that is created through tax systems. Before any revenue system or budget can be
implemented, it must be evaluated in order for it to be accepted by taxpayers and how the changes

Government And Public Policy In The Public And Local...
Public policy is created by addressing complicated issues which affect communities. Public policy
requires a collaboration of ideas with purposes and the means of achieving them. Society plays an
important role in policymaking and utilization, which improves implementation not only in the
public sector but also in the private sector (Peters, 2016). Governmentagencies at all levels can
manage and support policies.
A reported by Professor Donald F. Kettl (2014) described local zoning officials in Oso, Washington
did not inform people of the potential risk of building their homes on the hillside. Also, federal, state
, and local officials did not share information well enough, so that decision makers were not aware
of the risks involved (Kettl,2014). The inadequate communication and collaboration between the
levels of government resulted in lack of resources for tragedy stricken communities. For instance,
local nonprofit agencies offered more aid than federal, state, and local governments and national
organizations.
The mudslide tragedy of Oso, Washington buried many homes and 44 people lost their lives.
Natural disasters are incidents that affect the population by causing physical and emotional
damages, loss of life, property damages, and sometimes emphasizes the failure of public
administrative processes (Donahue Tuohy,2006, p.5). The federal governmentknows more about
the risks, but they do not have power to act (Kettl,2014, p.3). Also, local governments have the

Analysis Of Julius Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Victoria Moyers

Brutus Role in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, written by William
Shakespeare in 1599, is just one example of a typical Shakespearean tragedy. At the beginning of
the book, the reader believes that the Julius Caesar is the main character and that the whole book
will revolve around him. By the time the reader finishes the book it is clear that Decius Brutus, or
just Brutus , is the main character and the tragic hero. Shakespeare s idea of a tragic hero had five
specific elements, including the traditional ones; complexity, internal conflict, the choices a
character makes and the thought process about the impact the decision will make. Throughout the ...

Other characters in the book acknowledged Brutus honor and mannerisms throughout the play.
For instance, at the end of the play when Antony states, This was the noblest Roman of them all
(Shakespeare 3.1.87), about Brutus. Shakespeare adds complexity to his characters. One way
that he does this is by giving his characters opposing desires and hesitation before following
through with actions. Scholar L. J. Simmons talks about Brutus mindset claiming, Brutus
framed his mode of life and action by the rules of virtue and study of Philosophy (Simmons 62).
Brutus shows hesitation and doubt when deciding whether or not to kill Caesar. On one hand,
Brutus acknowledges that killing his friend is morally wrong and that the conspirators are
assassinating Caesar because they are envious of him. When Cassius first mentioned the idea of
assassinating Caesar, Brutus replied How I have thought of this and of these times, /I shall
recount hereafter; for this present, /I would not, so with love I might entreat you, /Be any
further moved. What you have said /I will consider; what you have to say /I will with patience
hear, and find a time (Shakespeare 1, 2, 164 169). Another part of Brutus wants to kill Caesar
because he realizes that if Caesar is crowned king, it will be the end of the democracy in Rome
and Caesar could corrupt Rome. Brutus even claims that ...He [Caesar] would be crown d: /How that

Spillover Chapter Summary
Spillover by David Quammen is most definitely one of the more unique, yet applicable novels I
have read in quite some time. As someone who is interested in attending pharmacy school and
ultimately dealing with disease and sickness for the rest of my life, I found it very mesmerizing
to learn about how certain zoonotic diseases came to be. With that said, I ll go right into the first
chapter: Pale Horse . This chapter focuses on the virus now known as Hendra. It started in a place
known as Brisbane, Australia (more specifically a northern suburb known as Hendra) in 1994
where some horses began experiencing the disease. This also ultimately led to some human
infections, some of which causes fatalities. Vic Rail, a horse trainer, was the first human to fatally
experience Hendra... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This chapter focuses on Malaria. When Quammen began writing this, he was told to not include
Malaria because it was not zoonotic but vector borne. However, Quammen found that the human
version of Malaria come from a mosquito biting an infected gorilla, and then biting a human.
Since the disease was delivered to a new host, malaria has now become zoonotic and a spillover.
I personally find this chapter of the book to be rather intriguing because compared to some of
the other diseases in this book such as Hendra or SARS; I would have liked to think that I was
rather knowledgeable about Malaria, but that was not the case. I have never heard of Malaria
being a Spillover and I found it compelling to read about in this book. The next chapter of this
book, Dinner at the Rat Farm , is centered on SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). In
2003, SARS made its presence known as it rapidly spread globally to places like Canada and the
Philippines. SARS origin belongs to southern province of China called Guangdong. The SARS
outbreak in China was quick and not to be messed with. It ran ravage through communities and

Ivan Denisovich Survival
Survival and preservation of humanity are among two important themes in Alexander
Solzhenitsyn s, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. Through the main protagonist, Ivan
Denisovich Shukhov, the audience is transported into the reality of Stalinist repression.
Throughout the novel, Solzhenitsyn makes it clear that freedom is not a cut and dry issue.
Rather, when one is focused on survival and maintaining their dignity, some element(s) of
freedom are still possible even during the most oppressive times. 1. The author makes it clear
very early on in the book that the idea of freedom is subjective and complicated. While one
would reasonably believe that men forced into labor camps cannot possibly be free, there is
more than what meets the eye. For the men that want nothing more than to maintain some aspect
of individuality during their harsh sentences, there are opportunities. For example, Shukov
mentions his spoon throughout the book. He must hide his spoon in his boot because he is
forbidden to have such personal items. Similarly, another prisoner known as Tsezar receives
mysterious and lavish packages from the outside world. These examples, regardless of how
small they may seem, allow the prisoners to have at least a small part of normalcy in their lives
and is the closest they will get to freedom. Solzhenitsyn says, The great thing about a penal camp
was you had a hell of a lot of freedom. Back in Ust Izhma if you said they couldn t get matches

While the Federal Government enacted the Privacy Act in order to create these twelve conditions
for the Agency to follow, it also enacted consequences for violations of the Act. In an article
entitled Can an Agency be Punished for Improperly Contacting a Physician?, Cyberfeds Legal
Editor Rebecca E. Lawrence, Esq. expresses that it is a violation of the claimant s privacy rights to
contact his physician without first attempting to obtain the desired information from the claimant.
Only if the claimant fails to cooperate with the agency can the agency go directly to the physician

is the first go through the employee themselves to provide the requested medical documentation,
and should such failure to cooperate be evident, then the Agency can request the documentation

that monetary awards: will either be for the actual money the claimant lost because of the agency

Taking a Look at CGI and Perl Scripts
Many years ago, as many of us must have noticed most websites that were running had plain and
simple web pages with some animation in the form of gif files. Companies like Apple then
broke the ice and came up with elegantly designed websites that looked really engaging and
simple to navigate. Things started to evolve from then onwards. In addition to just writing
HTML for web pages and saving them on a server, web developers started to come up with better
ways of making these pages further interactive. The thought was great but there was an issue and
that was one could only get static content. What if one wanted to notify others of how many
people came to visit their website or what if you wanted to capture data from an online form? That
was the moment when people started to turn towards CGI and Perl scripts. These scripts were
special codes that used to run on the web serverand could act as an interface between the file
systems and/or the database.
CGI and Perl scripts were not easy to use and in fact they were not so flexible. In fact, a new
process for each request had to be created plus it wasn t secure and it didn t offer any structured
way of creating dynamic modules or applications. As a result, things became a little complex and
confusing until 2005 when JSP and Microsoft s ASP and PHPcame into the picture. These
languages have helped developers to come up with both scalable and secure applications.
As time passed by things became even more interesting with the

Australian National Security Statement Analysis Essay
At a time when Australia faces its most challenging strategic outlook since World War II, there is no
issue more important to Australia s security than the increased capabilities of our intelligence
agencies and the development of a robust national security policy. The challenge Australia faces is
defining our national securitypriorities in today s globalised world and creating a national security
architecture for the 21st century that can enable the Australian Intelligence Communities (AIC) to
adequately protect Australia and Australian interests. In order to combat the increasing aspects of
asymmetric and transnational threats the Australian Government needed to implement a National

The purpose of the speech was to describe the scope of national security, the interests of national
security, the principles and priorities and the government s vision for a reformed national security
structure. The statement set out the national security policy framework for Australia s future. By
providing a four block foundation of; building a more secure Australia with a future of security
challenges, building a stronger economic Australia, building a fairer Australia among the
disadvantaged and building an Australia capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century, the
national security statement was a decisive and coherent step to a uniformed security approach that
was long overdue.
By presenting a clear concise definition of national security Freedom from attack or the threat of

preservation of our hard won freedoms; and the maintenance of our fundamental capacity to

Empathy In The Rattler
When in times of danger, people must often take the actions they see best fit. In The Rattler, the
author depicts a vivid story of a man who has to make a difficult choice while facing a rattlesnake
in the desert. Despite the man seeing a threat in the snake, it is him that becomes a threat to the
other. By using the descriptions of the man, the snake and the specific setting, the author affects the
readerby creating a sense of empathyfor the narrator and sympathy for the snake. With such a
connection, it adds a greater depth to the story for the reader to analyze.
To begin with, the sense of empathy for the man is formed by including his point of view and a
description of his character. One of the first examples of these techniques is when he finds the
snake and states, My first instinct was to let him go his way. From this thought the reader can
tell that the man has no inclination of killing the snake at first and did not see him as any sort of
immediate threat. With the author s decision to write the passage in the first person perspective
of the man it has a crucial impact of skewing details to reflect off of his perceptions, allowing for
a better insight on the character. Another example that helps the readers empathize with the man is
when he reveals his views on a potential killing by mentioning, I have never killed an animal I was
not obliged to kill. Although all that the man says is that he will only kill an animal if necessary, by
choosing to inform the

Fiber Optic Technology Essay
From the beginning, efficiency and speed in the telecommunications industry has advanced at a fast
pace owing to fiber optic technology. In 1979, AT T filled the telecommunications industry with
revolutionary ideas by developing a mode for data transmission using a light, called fiber optic
cable. This mode produced a bandwidth of 44.736 Mbps and could multiplex 672 trunk circuits on
one fiber alone (Cole, M. 2000). However, this development was merely the start of a huge
extension to telecommunications, something that would transform the industry constantly.
Although AT T brought in fiber optic technology in 1979, they weren t the first company to think of
such a creative idea. The conception of interchanging data by making use of light ... Show more

The laser was small in size than a grain of sand, but the application of fiber optics in telephony was
made possible. In 1987, an additional accomplishment in the fiber optics industry was fulfilled; this
accomplishment was the erbium doped fiber amplifier, which admitted numerous channels of light
to coexist on a single circuit. This fiber amplifier rendered sufficient channels for single fiber cable
to manage 80 million telephone calls at the same time (Greatest Achievements, 2000).
Nowadays, fiber optic technology carries data by distributing light pulses along slim strands of
plastic or glass fiber by means of a laser or light emitting diode (LED). Strands of fiber are
comprised of three major components: the core, cladding, and buffer coating. The contained by
part of the fiber is called the core. A fiber s core is the pathway where the light passes through.
Encompassing the core is optical matter called cladding. Cladding recurrently reflects light pulses
stimulating the pulses to pass through easily by way of the fiber core. The buffer coating functions
as a covering for the cladding and the core by shielding it from external elements, for example,
moisture (Fotec, 1996).
The glass fibers that constitute the core of the fiber strands employed in contemporary fiber optic
systems are generally established on pure sand. Fiber created from regular glass utilized in
windows is polluted that impurities

School is a melting pot of people. Everyone is different, which means that everyone has different
ways of learning. Although different, there are similarities among students which leads them to fit
into three different classifications. These three classifications are the overachievers, academically
average students, and the underachievers or slackers. Admittedly, these categories are heavily
influenced by media s portrayal of different students but can still be useful when evaluating what
kind of person each studentis. The first classification of the different type of students is the
overachievers. These students are sometimes called goody two shoes or know it alls. These are the
students that are motivated, persistent, dedicated, and responsible. The overachievers are usually
the ones found studying the most. They are also the ones who usually sits in front of the class and
participates the most. They are the first ones to raise their hand to answer a question and since they
usually know the answers to most questions in class, they are the ones that are approached by other
students who are seeking answers themselves. Other students believe that overachievers make those
students that are not overachieving not capable of anything. Overachievers are the students who
are the most prepared, has higher grades in classes, and never really get in trouble. These students
are the ones that everybody has high standards for and is predicted to be the most successful in life.

The Invisible Child By Andrea Elliot
In the Invisible Child written by Andrea Elliot, a lifestyle of a homeless girl named Dasani and
her family is shown. Elliot displays Dasani s culture, and some of the struggles that she and her
family face daily because they are homeless. Dasani is very dedicated to her school work. She
wants to be better than anyone in her familyever was so she doesn t have to worry about being
homeless for the rest of her life. In some ways I can relate to Dasani, I am very passionate about
my school work as well. I want to excel so I can be my very best in the future. However, our
reasoning s for wanting to be the best we can be are a little different. She wants to excel so she
no longer has to worry about being homeless whereas I ve never been homeless so I cannot say
the exact same. I grew up being a very privileged kid. Both of my parents worked full time good
paying jobs. I ve never had to want for much of anything. My parents have always spoiled me
with nice things, they have always made sure my siblings and I had nice clothes and a decent
meal to eat. They are even paying for me to attain a college education. Dasani and her family
however are a lot different from mine. In the Invisible Child Elliot tells us how Dasani s parents
do not have legit jobs, instead they have side hustles that only bring in a few dollars. Elliot states
(2013) that a lot of mornings Dasani was starving at school because she had no breakfast. Dasani
and her siblings also had to wear clothes that were

Lord of the Flies Antrhopology Essay
Thomas Hobbes was one of the most controversial philosophers of all time. He argued that the,
Life of man [is] solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short (Hobbes 77). Clearly he didn t think that
humanity was a good group of beings. In the Lord of the Flies by William Golding, one character,
Jack Merridew, displays many characteristics of Hobbes philosophyon man. Time after time,
Golding subtly refers to Hobbes philosophy through Jack and his reactions with other characters in
the book. After Golding introduces the boys, they want to elect a chief, and already, Golding is
using Hobbes anthropology. In Hobbes Leviathan, he states, And therefore, if any two men desire
the same thing which nevertheless they cannot both enjoy, they... Show more content on

He even literally has his weapons pointed at Ralph in one scene specifically, in which the two
leaders are dueling. The narrator narrates, Jack made a rush and stabbed at Ralph s chest with
spear. Ralph sensed the position of the weapon from the glimpse he caught of Jack s arm and
put the thrust aside with his own butt (Golding 159). Even though Hobbes may have intended
this to be figurative without the actual leaders fighting, but their armies doing their work, this
seems to fit the same kind of description. Hobbes really means that kings, or in this case chiefs,
are always looking to fight each other, always ready for battle, always looking to rid themselves
of their opponents. In the same way, Jack is always looking to fight Ralph, always ready for
battle against Ralph, always looking to rid himself of Ralph. Golding ultimately connects Jack to
Hobbes through Jack s lack of mercy and justice. An unknown author composed a summary of
Hobbes argument pertaining to this subject, and wrote The state of nature... was founded upon a
savage egoism which drove man to seek a maximum of pleasure without hindrance from a norm
of justice or mercy toward other men. Every man was continually engaged in war against all other
men (Paragraph 9). Throughout the book, Jack fastidiously tries to not offer mercy or due justice
to people. In one instance, Ralph pleads for mercy upon the twins, Sam and Eric. The narrator
says, Grab them! No one moved. Jack shouted angrily. I said

The Acquisition, Development And Use Of Language
The acquisition, development and use of language is universal. It is pivotal in being able to
communicate between others and is seen and heard in all cultures and countries. The notion that
language is seen is undeniable, for example; language is seen in printed format such as
advertisements, books, letters and lyrics. Printed languagecomprises of numbers, letters, symbols
and pictures and can together or separately tell a story or communicate a message. Furthermore,
language is observed through gestures, body language, dance, moving images and sign language.
Audible language consists of spoken words; singing, whistling, morse code, music and movies.
All modes of language assist in the delivery of meaningful information (Anstey Bull, 2006).
Language is extremely diverse, with over 7,097 known languages spoken throughout the world.
English is spoken by approximately 340 million people and is one of the world s most common
languages (SIL International, 2016). Over 230 countries are represented, 300 languages spoken and
more than 100 religions practiced in Australia alone (Department of Immigration and Citizenship,
2008). Throughout the world, there will be standardised forms of each language, which differ in
grammar and pronunciation from language that may be used in the home or other social settings.
Standard language is commonly used in government and educational discourses. This report will

The Importance Of Racing Within The Car Industry
The importance of racing within the car industry
So for years now, the car industry has been evolving. While it is getting bigger and bigger, it is
also branching off to many other sub industries. Among those industries, one of the most popular
is the racing one. It has been evolving since it has started. And to say that it is very popular in
this generation would be a huge understatement. Even while it is an industry of its own (Racing
industry), it still has many different branches. For instance, when we talk about racing, we can
have an endless discussion about how many different kinds there are. On the legal side of racing,
we have organized activities such as NASCAR racing events, but if we want to talk about illegal
racing ways, we can talk about street racing or drag racing on local streets. This however, will be
discussed in the main part of this paper. So before getting into the meat of this paper which is the
driving question ( Why is racing important in the car industry? ) We need to answer why talking
about his is important to know about. So, why is this topic crucial to know about? Well for starters,
racing has become one of the most popular activates that most teenage boys and professionals
partake in. other than that, racing brings one of the biggest revenues economically to the table.
Now this means better improvements in the car industry as a whole. While we are talking about
improvements to the car industry, we can certainly talk about how sport and

topic, which I am very much interested in, led me to excel in my program, earning me a GPA of

During my freshman year at university, I implemented a system based on C programming

complete functions. During this time, I was very new to the world of physics and did not have
relevant experience and because of this inexperience, I found that the most complex and
challenging part of the project was coordinating all the C++ Source Files and making sure that
they work together as a Win32 Console Application. To try to resolve these hurdles, I bombarded
myself with books and articles that guided me through the process of building my desired

Improving Business Writing
Why is writing important in business? Writing is essential in any form of business. We use writing
in all types of communication such as: email, facsimile, letter writing, etc. Writing skills are
important to the business professional because it prepares the workplace for well written business
communications. The three topics I will cover can serve as an outline for improving writing skills in
businesses. The topics are principles of business writing, how to write an effective business letter,
and how to improve business writing within the company. These topics will aid in examining and

Following the Attention Line is the Body. The body contains detailed information about the
topic. The body includes the introductory paragraph, one or more body paragraphs, and a
concluding paragraph. Finally, there is the closing. The closing is usually ended with a
complementary closing and signature. A list of examples include: Sincerely, Cordially, Best
regards, and Yours very truly. Remember to capitalize the first word in the complimentary
closing and end it with a comma. After the closing, there is a copy line. When the copy line is
used, other people know who will be receiving a copy. The copy line usually includes a symbol:
c: for copy, pc: for photocopy, and bc: blind copy (used only to limit readers of other copies). The
names of the recipients should follow these symbols listed in organizational rank (Writing@CSU:
Writing Guide, 2004, p. 1). All of the components discussed above are effective ways to write an
effective business letter. An effective business letter speaks to a specific reader. Therefore, the right
type of business letter must reach the reader. The most common types of business letters are: 1)
Acknowledgement Letters, 2) Adjustment Letters, 3) Complaint Letters, 4) Inquiry Letters, 5)
Order Letters, and Response Letters. (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide, 2004 p. 1). These type letters
helps guide the reader to understanding what the writer intended. Nothing can be more

His rise in politics and higher echelons of power was due to his mysteriously sharp mind coupled

Are Windshields Good Or Bad
It has transpired of us: we ve been driving down the interstate stuck behind an expansive truck,
and it kicked up a stone that hit our windshield. At to start with, it appeared to innocuously
ricochet off, yet as we drove not far off we understood that the stone took out a piece of the
windshield and spread a split most of the way over the surface of the glass.
Since even a little split or divot in a windshield can deteriorate after some time and conceivably
prompt a perilous circumstance, it is essential to either supplant your windshield or have it
repaired as fast as could be expected under the circumstances. In any case, knowing whether to
supplant your windshield out and out or have it repaired is a choice that you will need to make,

The Tragedy of the Commons and Collective Action Essay
The tragedy of the commons and the problem of collective action are two key concepts in the
world of political science. They act under the assumption that man is a rational being who will act
in his own self interest. Humanity id broadly diverse meaning that each individual has their own
ideas as to how society should run and how people should live.(heywood) This inevitably results in
disagreement and this is where politics steps in. Aristotle described politics as the master science ,
the activity through which human beings attempt to improve their lives and create the Good
Society. Through the tragedy of the commonsand the problem of collective action we can see how
politics is essentially the search for conflict resolution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Mancur Olson (cite) states in his book that rational self interested individuals will not
act to achieve their common or group interests. Coercion or other incentives are needed for this
to occur. Communication can be used as moral suasion (ostrom) This became known as the zero
contribution thesis . A social dilemma is when individuals choose actions that will affect others
as well as themselves. The individual will aim to benefit themselves short term which generally
results in a lower joint outcome. If the individuals acted collectively they would achieve a better
optimal outcome than the one they would achieve on their own. These social dilemmas have
been characterised in game theory by the prisoners dilemma. They will achieve the Nash
equilibrium which is lower than the socially desirable outcome. This is the problem of collective
action. This is not to say that forms of collective action cannot be seen in everyday world. Mobs,
gangs, cartels, neighbourhood associations, charities and voting are all forms of collective action.
(ostrom) These social dilemmas are related to common pool resources. The problem of free riding
can be an issue. . There has to be governance of common pool resources. If, for example collective
action was man s natural instinct then

How Did Thomas Jefferson Shaped America
Thomas Jefferson, one of the best presidents America has ever had. Some people believe he was
evil for keeping slaves. But, even though he did that, he did more good than bad. He purchased the
Louisiana territory, greatly expanding America. Even before he was president he helped America,
he was the main author of the Declaration of Independence. Also after being president he helped by
founding the University of Virginia.
Thomas Jefferson was a main factor in the birth of America. If it had not been for him we would

Arabia and UAE said that diplomatic and economic relations would be restored once Qatarhas

that it had any financial links with those extremist groups. This stalemate has led to a long lasting

Fearing uprisings of their own, nations such as the United Arab Emirates backed Saudi Arabia.
When Hamad abdicated the throne in 2013, it appeared that Qatar s international influence would
end. Until this year, that certainly seemed to be the case. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt
enacted a blockade of Qatar, which prompted an international response. President Trump and the
United States appeared to back Saudi Arabia, while Iran and Turkey, two regional powers, backed
Qatar.
The blockade of Qatar is throwing the long held status quo of the region into disarray. All of the
Arab Gulf states are allies of the United States and currently Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain are
imposing the blockade on Qatar, with Kuwait staying neutral. The involvement of the United
States, Turkey and Iran seems to indicate that this conflict was more than just a petty dispute
between the gulf states. In this unipolar world, it would make sense that once a dominant power
chooses a side, a conflict such as this one would soon meet its conclusion. However, even with the
United States involvement, the Qatar blockade has been in effect for five months and has no end
in sight. This would seem to indicate that perhaps the United States is not as powerful as
previously thought. This leads me to ask the following question: How does the blockade of Qatar
impact American goals in the Middle East.

Sustainable Tourism
Sustainable Tourism I. Introduction Sustainable tourism is stated to be tourism development that
avoids damage to the environment, economy and cultures of the locations where it takes place. The
aim of sustainable tourism is to ensure that development is a positive experience for local people;
tourism companies; and tourists themselves. (The London School of Economics and Political
Science, 2012) The tourism industry is such that produces significant impacts on natural resources,
consumption patterns, pollution and social systems. (The London School of Economics and
Political Science, 2012) The facts on tourism include that 980 million individuals travel
internationally (2011 data) and that number is estimated to reach 1.5 trillion by 2020. Travel and
tourism is representative of 10% of the total global Gross Domestic Product (GD), which is
inclusive of other related tourism businesses such as catering and cleaning. Finally, there are
approximately 25 million individuals across 52 countries that have been displaced by violence,
persecution and other disasters all of which affects tourism receipts in every country throughout the

tourism is stated to be about В¦re focusing and adapting. A balance must be found between limits

In the first phase of the budget it needs to be determined how much money is going to be needed
to operate the day to day activities of the business.
Since, the company that I work for is a federally funded facility it looks differently than a company

The Shaw Festival And The Show Itself
Part 1: The Shaw festival and the show itself.
History of Shaw festival and Doherty and Rand
Shaw s works were only sporadically performed before 1962. This changed when lawyer Brian
Doherty offered up the idea of having a theatre company attributed to Shaw the way Stratford was
to Shakespeare. The company was created as A salute to shaw to help give the town a financial
boost. In the year of 1962 Doherty was named both artistic director and producer bring the shows
Don Juan in Hell and Candida to the stage. Throughout all of the changes in titles Doherty worked
on A salute to shaw that produced a major milestone on June 12, 1973. That milestone being the
opening of the new Shaw Festival theatre by Queen Elizabeth herself. During this time Calvin Rand
arts Professor from the University of Buffalo became president of the company and help move the
company forward.

Van Nguyen Should Be Abolished
In my opinion, I believe Van Nguyen should have been given clemency. While he was convicted
of drug trafficking, Singaporean police should have not carried out the execution for reasons
such as: inhumanity and contradiction. In today s world we all want to move towards a violence
free society, and I can t see how dishing out capitol punishment helps our move. It is contradicting
and makes our plea for violence free seem meaningless. I believe no one deserves to die, and that
we all make mistakes, some worse than others but we should all be given a second chance.
Furthermore, I don t believe that executing Van Nguyen will deter future drugtraffickers from this
type of behavior. Instead, what should have happened was, the Singaporean governmentshould have
still sentenced Van Nguyen to a penalty, but one that will allow people to rectify their mistakes,
and reflect on their choices and understand the consequences that are involved and what the effects
are on others. Finally, I can understand Tony Abbot s statement, about people do need to
understand that drug trafficking is a very serious offence , it is clear that while traveling overseas
you are out of the Australian governments control, you leave our democracy and enter another, and
it is important to familiarise yourself with other laws, but in the end, the decision made on Van
Nguyen s life was unreasonable.
I believe that the amount of heroin and in fact all drugs are enough to cause many drug related

In the excerpt, Anne of the Green Gables , by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Marilla ordered Anne
Shirley to run through the woods to ask Mrs. Barry if she could lend her Diana s apron, but
Shirley told her that she did not want to visit the forest at night. With the power of Shirley s
imagination, she explained to Marilla that she was convinced that the forest was haunted and
lurking with several ghosts. In another excerpt, The Invisible Man , by H.G. Walls, Mrs. Hall, an
innkeeper, allowed a mysterious man who was heavily clothed into her inn. She felt major

Undertaking Strategic Planning
Formulate a process for undertaking strategic planning in your area of interest. What is the need
for strategic planning at this time? Which actors should be involved? How do you apply the steps
and procedures discussed in Berman Chapter 4 to your process? Which steps would you undertake
to ensure that conditions for success are in place?
There is a need for strategic planning on a continuous basis, not only for organizations, but also for
departments or sections within organizations. The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency went through
very thorough strategic planning upon its inception and continues to update that plan on an annual

CONTRACT LAW ASSESSED ESSAY QUESTION 2015 2016 Implied Terms Student ID
1620923 Word Count 1,999 Introduction In Privy Council decision Attorney General of Belize v
Belize Telecom (Belize thereafter), Lord Hoffmann in delivering the leading judgment, assimilated
the implication of term and contractual interpretation resulting in the well known traditional tests:
business efficacy and officious bystander merely as auxiliary role in discovering the the objective
intention of the contract. Even though the Belize test has long been accepted by the English and
the New Zealand courts, Singapore court seems to have reservations. A great deal of debate

The second part will base on the observation in first argument and argue that implication of term is
part of the process of interpretation. Along the argument, author will strive to argue that the
criticisms towards Lord Hoffmann s are unconvincing. Argument One How Should We Understand
the Necessity The author argues that the operation of Belize test should be understood as: A term
has to be fit in either of the traditional test, but before the implication, it has to be checked by
Belize that is in congruence with the reasonable interpretation of the contract as a whole. However,
there are some fears that the role of necessity has been trumped by reasonableness in Belize that
will consequently lead to the court making the contract for the parties. The preliminary issue is how
should we understand necessity . Some say it is necessary to make the contract work. Some others
propose that it is meant to give effect to the intention of the parties. To uphold the principle of
freedom of contract, the court must give effect to what the contractual parties intended therefore the
court does not inquire into the subjective intention of the either party. In Liverpool City Council
and Philips both stress the importance of necessity. Yet we should be careful in both cases they did
not nevertheless totally eliminated the role of reasonableness. The difficult here lies in how the

A euphemism is the substitution of an agreeable or less offensive expression in place of one that
may offend or suggest something unpleasant to the listener;[1] or in the case of doublespeak, to
make it less troublesome for the speaker.[citation needed] It also may be a substitution of a
description of something or someone rather than the name, to avoid revealing secret, holy, or sacred
names to the uninitiated, or to obscure the identity of the subject of a conversation from potential
eavesdroppers. Some euphemisms are intended to be funny.

The common names of illicit drugs, and the plants used to obtain them, often undergo a process
similar to taboo deformation, because new terms are devised in order to discuss them secretly in
the presence of others. This process often occurs in English (e.g. speed or crank for meth). It occurs
even more in Spanish, e.g. the deformation of names for cannabis: mota (lit., something which
moves on the black market), replacing grifa (lit., something coarse to the touch ), replacing
marihuana (a female personal name, MarГa Juana), replacing caГ±amo (the original Spanish name
for the plant, derived from the Latin genus name Cannabis). All four of these names are still used in
various parts of the Hispanophone world, although caГ±amo ironically has the least underworld
connotation, and is often used to describe industrial hemp, or legitimate medically prescribed
cannabis.
[edit] The Euphemism Treadmill
Euphemisms often evolve over time into taboo words themselves, through a process described by
W.V.O. Quine, and more recently dubbed the euphemism treadmill by Steven Pinker. (cf. Gresham
s Law in economics). This is the well known linguistic process known as pejoration.
Words originally intended as euphemisms may lose their euphemistic value, acquiring the negative
connotations of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Six Sigma
Six Sigma.
Six Sigma is a highly disciplined process that helps us focuses on Problem solving and delivering
near perfect products and services. Why Sigma ? The word is a statistical term that measures
how far a given process deviates from perfection. The central idea behind Six Sigma is that if you
can measure how many defects you have in a process, you can systematically figure out how to
eliminate them and get as close to zero defects as possible. The Six Sigma methodologies are a
business philosophy and initiative that enables world class quality and continuous improvement to

barriers which needs to be resolved.
Because Six Sigma is applied to all aspects of the production and planning process, it may create
rigidity and bureaucracy that can create delays and stifle creativity.
Customer focus may be taken to extremes, where internal quality control measures that make
sense for a company are not taken because of the overlying goal of achieving the Six Sigma
stipulated level of consumer satisfaction. For example, an inexpensive measure that carries a risk
of a slightly higher defect rate may be rejected in favour of a more expensive measure that helps to
achieve Six Sigma, but adversely affects

Kurt Cobain s Influence On Nirvana
The band Nirvana unleashed a musical sound and a cultural following that put grunge music on
the map and conquered the quirky pop sounds that dominated the radio waves in the early 1990 s.
Their music was filled with raw emotion, twisted lyrics and hard sounds that possessed their
audience. Their image as a band was rough, torn, dirty and disassembled. They represented the
misfits of society and did not seem to care about the traditional, clean cut superstar aspect of fame.
Kurt Cobain, Nirvanas lead singer, was an emotionally tortured front man who struggled with drug
addiction and depression for many years. His long dirty hair, thin frame, flannel t shirts and
screaming voice was a new form of celebrity that shocked a nation. Nirvana was a small band with
big sound and eventually made a huge impact on the American youth, music industry and the many
recording artists that followed in their footsteps. Their fame was cut short by the sudden and tragic
death of lead singer Kurt Cobain. In the brief years of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Annotated Script Of A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
Guethshina V Altena
Project 2 Rough draft (Written script of video)
When talking about the rhetorical aspect of images, people tend to ignore the potential power that
a photograph has to convince someone. However, images such as those of veterans meeting their
relatives in tears use emotional appeal to convince their viewers so those viewers are far more
likely to agree with the message behind photo. In a sense, photographs can have a powerful impact
on how one sees and interpret the message that comes with an image.
I believe that many people underestimate the value and capacity of a picture to use rhetorical
appeals. It may be hard to realize that a visual image can have a great impact on someone; there is
a Chinese proverb that says: A picture is worth a thousand words and I strongly believe this
statement to be true. Looking at those three pictures of veterans with kids, everyone can see
something different in them and there ae multiples interpretations. Although there is a lot to be said
about these photographs, I will make my argument in a brief, clear and concise manner.
In order to measure the extent to which those photographs are appealing and rhetorical, it is
crucial to analyze every aspect of the picture without leaving any details behind. First let s look at
the first picture of a woman veteran hugging a children that we assume is her daughter. We must
pay attention to the expression on her face which is a happiness that is overwhelming, she looks like

Is Informed Consent Always Necessary for Randomized,...
Is informed consent always necessary for randomized, controlled trials? The following sentences are
different scenarios that answer the question. Informed consent should not be waived unless the
treatment is offered inside and outside the trial. Treatment should not involve more than minimal
risk compared to alternatives. Genuine clinic must value the treatments the same. No reasonable
person should have a preference for one treatment or another (Truog et al. 1999). If the treatments
can be found in and outside of the trial, then you don t need the consent of the patient. For example,
a trial comparing a beta blocker with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor for treatment of
hypertension should not be approved for a waiver of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author states, Should specific informed consent be sought from a patient enrolled in the study?
If so, then what should be done if the patient chooses not to participate (Truog et al. 1999)? In this
scenario the patient does not give their consent to participate in the trial so the dilemma of what to
do with the patient rises. Should no data be collected on the patient or should they be moved out of
the program and if that happens, what was the point of having the trial in the first place? If you
have to collect informed consent from patients in the trial it is going to make the data polls smaller
and harder to collect. Genuine clinical treatments must exist in balance when weigh against one
another (Truog et al. 1999). That this is trying to explain is that when in a trial you cannot have a
treatment that has more risks or wait time compared to an alternative treatment. For example, if
treatment one has larger risks and a longer recovery time compared to treatment two, which has
fewer risks and a short recovery time, then the treatments are not balanced. In this example
treatment one and two have the same over all out come, but since treatments are not balanced the
patient must give informed consent before undergoing any treatment. If informed consent is not
collected, how well the patients know if they are getting the treatment in the trial that best suits their
wishes? The author states If the

How the Length of a Wire Affects its Resistance
How the Length of a Wire Affects Its Resistance In my physics coursework I am going to

easy it is for current to flow through a wire. Current is the rate of flow of charge through a
conductor, and it is measured in amps using an ammeter. To help me plan my investigation I have
completed a preliminary experiment in which I investigated the effect of the thickness of a wire on
its resistance, using three constantan wires and one copper wire. I found that the resistance

Blue Trail Narrative
When I first set out for the Blue Trail I did not know what to expect. I ve been on several trails
before that were infested with overgrowth and never found them amusing, so what s so special
about this one?
Finding the trail wasn t particularly difficult, since I knew the campus from its sustainable farm to
the music building overlooking its own lawn and pond; however, once I got there I was surprised.
Right on the edge of the road, the forest had muses all around to draw inspiration from. I found
myself transfixed by every little squirrel that would not run away from me, since I was in their
world and not the other way around. Surrounded by an ocean of orange pine leaves, I wondered
how much longer until fall would come and transform everything.
THUNK. I tripped on several tree roots throughout the path and realized I was out of my element.
There wasn t that much human activity there either, besides the whooshing sound of cars passing
the road nearby or the lone blonde girl that sat along the path. Of course, I avoided talking to other
people during my walk because that would ruin the time for self contemplation. Though, I must
admit that I was distracted all around by the tree stumps, beer bottles, spiders, gnats, and rocks on
the path. But, despite seeing the red barns and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 3. African American Oppression Between 1865 And 1905 Oppression is a common theme in history. Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are inevitably strengthened by the oppression through commitment and perseverance. African Americans were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history. The emancipation of slavery in 1865 signified the slow fight for freedom and equality for African Americans. Between 1865 and 1905 they suffered extreme oppression, but remained united in their fight to gain independence. In 1865 all slaves were emancipated which declared them free, but racism was far from over. In the South, freed African Americans continued to be killed as an act of racial violence. Between the period of 1865 1905 African Americans fought to defeat their oppression. By the year 1905, freedmen were still fighting for the same rights they were fighting for in 1865. African Americans were oppressed in many regards, a great example of this is the black codes. These codes were written into Louisiana law which prohibited blacks from passing within the limits of said parish without a special permit, renting or buying a house within said parish, working without a white person supervising them, ... African Americans could have accepted they would never have equal rights, but they remained steadfast in their pursuit of equality. As time passed, their efforts gained momentum and strength. • 6. Review Of The Little Albert Experiment Madison Berry October 30, 2014 Section #2 NetID: meberry John Watson and Classical Conditioning In psychology, respondent behavior is behavior learned through classical conditioning. This type of learning is defined as a way in which one learns to link two or more stimuli while also anticipating events; or other wise, known as a kind of learning that occurs when a conditioned stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus. While classical conditioning was accidently discovered by Ivan Pavlov, John B. Watson was interested in taking Pavlov s experiences a bit further. Watson s ultimate goal was to research how classical conditioning could be seen through humans and not just through animals. An in depth look on John Watson s actual experiment can be better explained and found in the article titled, The Little Albert Experiment on http://psychology.about.com/od /classicpsychologystudies/a/little albert experiment.htm. John Watson s Contribution Classical conditioning is identified as the type of learning where the nature of the research conditions a fear response to the subject being experimented on. An implication of the research for human behavior involving conditioned fear response would describe how a child might be afraid of storms because of the partnership between the storm and the sound of the loud thunder. This being said, John B. Watson wanted to further explain this reasoning of classical conditioning through his own experiment that many people call The Little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Insanity Defense Expectation Feeling ill? Commit a crime, you are protected! Criminal verdicts are always being watched by our community because citizens seek protection by law enforcement. Although the criminal justice system has established a foundation which is expected to promote public safety and punishment of criminals, they do not always live up to that capacity. One aspect of this is the insanity defense expectation. Verdicts are revealed after analyzations of criminals intent to commit crimes are determined. If it is proven that a person had no knowledge or sanity in committing a crime or breaking a law, that person will not be punished nor charged as a criminal. I strongly disagree with this method of decisions by our judicial system. No leeway should be available ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Literacy and competency are essential to these criminal investigations. Any false allegations, misjudgment or misunderstanding of the case can set a criminal free within seconds. The layman claims that sane men are escaping responsibility for their crimes on the plea of insanity by reason of the venality of experts, the strong and corrupt partisanship of counsel for the refense, and the incompetency of the judge and the prosecuting attorney (Insanity and Criminal Responsibility). There are many individuals who are involved in the sanctions of these cases and although they maintain proper credibility, the cases will prosper according to their beliefs and findings. It is understood that mental health professionals, physicians and psychologists stand ground in front of the jury with hopes of proving the individual sane or insane. The insanity defense traces its roots back to the 1843 assassination attempt on British Prime Minister Robert Peel. In this case, a psychotic individual named Daniel M Naghten intentionally and with premeditation killed an assistant to a prime minister of England because he believed he was being persecuted. The defendant plead insanity at the trial. The prosecution attempted to prove sanity by illustrating M Nagten s behavior in planning and executing the attack. Several physicians testified as to the defendant s even though they never examined the defendant; their conclusions were based on hearing the testimony and observing the defendant s behavior. After the judge gave weight to the physician s opinion, the prosecution agreed to stop the case and the defendant was declared insane (The John Hincklney Trial). In other words, insanity cases are in the hands of professionals that are able to evaluate, analyze and conclude based on behavior, excluding mental illness. • 8. Treatment Options of Acme Essay The word acne comes from the word acme meaning the highest point , which comes from the Greek akme meaning point or spot . Acne is a skin condition that may occur due to hormonal changes during puberty or even during pregnancy. Some attribute acne to external factors like greasy cosmetics and unhealthy diet. The claims of a person s diet affecting their acne has not been verified yet. Another popular claim links stress to acne, however, stress does not cause acne but it can contribute to worsen the condition. More often than not, people wanting an extreme solution for acne opt for laser surgery which is said to minimize the scars left behind on the skin. Another common treatment sought out by the dermatologists today is ACCUTANE. Since, it affects people of all age groups, an effective treatment is yet to be found that will have the same effect for everybody. But since, everybody s skin is different, no such common remedy exists and only a dermatologist can examine an individual s skin and suggest the best possible course of action for the treatment. ACCUTANE: Also known by the name Isotretinoin or (13 cis retinoic acid), Accutane is used for the treatment of severe cases of acne. It is a form of vitamin A which reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in the skin, and helps the skin renew itself more quickly. Accutane has long been questioned regarding the uneven balance of its pros and cons with the cons weighing on the heavier side. It has a long list of particularly dangerous side effects associated with it due to which it can be prescribed only by specific dermatologists in consultation with the manufacturers. It is administered orally in pill form and is advised to be taken with a meal containing appropriate fat content, normally for 15 20 weeks (3.5 4.5 months), although it is also sometimes prescribed at lower dosages for up to six months or longer. • 9. Government Vs Government Intervention The papers of history books, is full of the names of artists who died in poverty, and who weren t cherished for what they had created. For many years, it has been argued that one of the ways in which this can be prevented, is the government intervention. Although, it has been amply mentioned from time to time, by differnet scholars, that governments should not intervene in people s lives, and the government s stepping in is extenuated in just a scant of situations, but sometimes, there isn t an alternative way. Although it may seem irrelevant to Art, consider the case of the Steam Engine, which many believe is invented by James Watt. The truth is this equipment was invented about one hundred years before Mr. Watt even fathomed such an idea; It was a French physician, who first came up with the idea of a steam engine, but the government didn t support him, and as a result, his invention had gone to waste. So the government support is nothing to be neglected in the case of inventions and technologies.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consider a musician, who is forced to contribute a song to a presidential campaign, the result could not be interpreted as a pure art, but at the best case, it would be a commercial entity. Undoubtedly, the probability of these cases to happen, is much more in a country which is ruled by a totalitarian government. So, when lauding and encouraging the need for the governments to support artists, we must not forget which kind of government are we talking about. In summary, there are pros and cons in pushing the argument for the government intervention to support artists. We should consider both sides : the case of an artist, who is living in extreme pauperization, and his creativeness is deteriorating; and the case in which an artist s work is being jeopradized by a totalitarian government that is dictating what should be created and what should ... • 10. Evaluating Revenue Systems Perry Christensen (2015) provide insight on the design and administration of a revenue system, as well as how it is evaluated. A revenue system is a collection of sources that is used by the government that are extracted through the means of tax and charges. Designing a revenue system is not merely created from scratch; it is an older system that has been modified to comply with and be accepted by society. These systems have been trending since the beginning of socioeconomic development and continue to evolve. Revenue systems are evaluated through a set of criteria; economic efficiency, equity, feasibility, and adequacy. It is noted that transparency is also part of the criteria, but it is a separate criterion in itself. Research and evidence examine the set of criteria by focusing on the income taxand how it has been the main source of revenue for the US Federal government. There have been many innovations in the technology of tax collection that have been implemented in the US, and have also been adopted globally by both developed and developing countries. Efforts to improve current systems and policies are examined based on the set used to evaluate the revenue system.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Government And Public Policy In The Public And Local... Public policy is created by addressing complicated issues which affect communities. Public policy requires a collaboration of ideas with purposes and the means of achieving them. Society plays an important role in policymaking and utilization, which improves implementation not only in the public sector but also in the private sector (Peters, 2016). Governmentagencies at all levels can manage and support policies. A reported by Professor Donald F. Kettl (2014) described local zoning officials in Oso, Washington did not inform people of the potential risk of building their homes on the hillside. Also, federal, state , and local officials did not share information well enough, so that decision makers were not aware of the risks involved (Kettl,2014). The inadequate communication and collaboration between the levels of government resulted in lack of resources for tragedy stricken communities. For instance, local nonprofit agencies offered more aid than federal, state, and local governments and national organizations. The mudslide tragedy of Oso, Washington buried many homes and 44 people lost their lives. Natural disasters are incidents that affect the population by causing physical and emotional damages, loss of life, property damages, and sometimes emphasizes the failure of public administrative processes (Donahue Tuohy,2006, p.5). The federal governmentknows more about the risks, but they do not have power to act (Kettl,2014, p.3). Also, local governments have the power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Julius Shakespeare s Julius Caesar Victoria Moyers Mrs. Voshell Honors English 10 May 2017 Brutus Role in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, written by William Shakespeare in 1599, is just one example of a typical Shakespearean tragedy. At the beginning of the book, the reader believes that the Julius Caesar is the main character and that the whole book will revolve around him. By the time the reader finishes the book it is clear that Decius Brutus, or just Brutus , is the main character and the tragic hero. Shakespeare s idea of a tragic hero had five specific elements, including the traditional ones; complexity, internal conflict, the choices a character makes and the thought process about the impact the decision will make. Throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other characters in the book acknowledged Brutus honor and mannerisms throughout the play. For instance, at the end of the play when Antony states, This was the noblest Roman of them all (Shakespeare 3.1.87), about Brutus. Shakespeare adds complexity to his characters. One way that he does this is by giving his characters opposing desires and hesitation before following through with actions. Scholar L. J. Simmons talks about Brutus mindset claiming, Brutus framed his mode of life and action by the rules of virtue and study of Philosophy (Simmons 62). Brutus shows hesitation and doubt when deciding whether or not to kill Caesar. On one hand, Brutus acknowledges that killing his friend is morally wrong and that the conspirators are assassinating Caesar because they are envious of him. When Cassius first mentioned the idea of assassinating Caesar, Brutus replied How I have thought of this and of these times, /I shall recount hereafter; for this present, /I would not, so with love I might entreat you, /Be any further moved. What you have said /I will consider; what you have to say /I will with patience hear, and find a time (Shakespeare 1, 2, 164 169). As someone who is interested in attending pharmacy school and ultimately dealing with disease and sickness for the rest of my life, I found it very mesmerizing to learn about how certain zoonotic diseases came to be. With that said, I ll go right into the first chapter: Pale Horse . This chapter focuses on the virus now known as Hendra. It started in a place known as Brisbane, Australia (more specifically a northern suburb known as Hendra) in 1994 where some horses began experiencing the disease. This also ultimately led to some human infections, some of which causes fatalities. Vic Rail, a horse trainer, was the first human to fatally experience Hendra... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This chapter focuses on Malaria. When Quammen began writing this, he was told to not include Malaria because it was not zoonotic but vector borne. However, Quammen found that the human version of Malaria come from a mosquito biting an infected gorilla, and then biting a human. Since the disease was delivered to a new host, malaria has now become zoonotic and a spillover. I personally find this chapter of the book to be rather intriguing because compared to some of the other diseases in this book such as Hendra or SARS; I would have liked to think that I was rather knowledgeable about Malaria, but that was not the case. I have never heard of Malaria being a Spillover and I found it compelling to read about in this book. The next chapter of this book, Dinner at the Rat Farm , is centered on SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). In 2003, SARS made its presence known as it rapidly spread globally to places like Canada and the Philippines. SARS origin belongs to southern province of China called Guangdong. The SARS outbreak in China was quick and not to be messed with. It ran ravage through communities and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Ivan Denisovich Survival Survival and preservation of humanity are among two important themes in Alexander Solzhenitsyn s, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. Through the main protagonist, Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, the audience is transported into the reality of Stalinist repression. Throughout the novel, Solzhenitsyn makes it clear that freedom is not a cut and dry issue. Rather, when one is focused on survival and maintaining their dignity, some element(s) of freedom are still possible even during the most oppressive times. 1. The author makes it clear very early on in the book that the idea of freedom is subjective and complicated. While one would reasonably believe that men forced into labor camps cannot possibly be free, there is more than what meets the eye. For the men that want nothing more than to maintain some aspect of individuality during their harsh sentences, there are opportunities. For example, Shukov mentions his spoon throughout the book. He must hide his spoon in his boot because he is forbidden to have such personal items. Similarly, another prisoner known as Tsezar receives mysterious and lavish packages from the outside world. These examples, regardless of how small they may seem, allow the prisoners to have at least a small part of normalcy in their lives and is the closest they will get to freedom. Solzhenitsyn says, The great thing about a penal camp was you had a hell of a lot of freedom. Back in Ust Izhma if you said they couldn t get matches outside they put ... Only if the claimant fails to cooperate with the agency can the agency go directly to the physician . (Lawrence, 2010). As such, the rule of engagement for an Agency seeking medical documentation is the first go through the employee themselves to provide the requested medical documentation, and should such failure to cooperate be evident, then the Agency can request the documentation directly. Ms. Lawrence also discusses the consequences for a Privacy Act violation as she states that monetary awards: will either be for the actual money the claimant lost because of the agency s violation or $1,000 per violation, whichever is greater . • 16. Taking a Look at CGI and Perl Scripts Many years ago, as many of us must have noticed most websites that were running had plain and simple web pages with some animation in the form of gif files. Companies like Apple then broke the ice and came up with elegantly designed websites that looked really engaging and simple to navigate. Things started to evolve from then onwards. In addition to just writing HTML for web pages and saving them on a server, web developers started to come up with better ways of making these pages further interactive. The thought was great but there was an issue and that was one could only get static content. What if one wanted to notify others of how many people came to visit their website or what if you wanted to capture data from an online form? That was the moment when people started to turn towards CGI and Perl scripts. These scripts were special codes that used to run on the web serverand could act as an interface between the file systems and/or the database. CGI and Perl scripts were not easy to use and in fact they were not so flexible. In fact, a new process for each request had to be created plus it wasn t secure and it didn t offer any structured way of creating dynamic modules or applications. As a result, things became a little complex and confusing until 2005 when JSP and Microsoft s ASP and PHPcame into the picture. These languages have helped developers to come up with both scalable and secure applications. As time passed by things became even more interesting with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Australian National Security Statement Analysis Essay At a time when Australia faces its most challenging strategic outlook since World War II, there is no issue more important to Australia s security than the increased capabilities of our intelligence agencies and the development of a robust national security policy. The challenge Australia faces is defining our national securitypriorities in today s globalised world and creating a national security architecture for the 21st century that can enable the Australian Intelligence Communities (AIC) to adequately protect Australia and Australian interests. By providing a four block foundation of; building a more secure Australia with a future of security challenges, building a stronger economic Australia, building a fairer Australia among the disadvantaged and building an Australia capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century, the national security statement was a decisive and coherent step to a uniformed security approach that was long overdue. By presenting a clear concise definition of national security Freedom from attack or the threat of attack; the maintenance of our territorial integrity; the maintenance of our political sovereignty; the preservation of our hard won freedoms; and the maintenance of our fundamental capacity to advance economic prosperity for all Australians the statement provides a strategic framework to drive the necessitating policy. • 18. Empathy In The Rattler When in times of danger, people must often take the actions they see best fit. In The Rattler, the author depicts a vivid story of a man who has to make a difficult choice while facing a rattlesnake in the desert. Despite the man seeing a threat in the snake, it is him that becomes a threat to the other. By using the descriptions of the man, the snake and the specific setting, the author affects the readerby creating a sense of empathyfor the narrator and sympathy for the snake. With such a connection, it adds a greater depth to the story for the reader to analyze. To begin with, the sense of empathy for the man is formed by including his point of view and a description of his character. One of the first examples of these techniques is when he finds the snake and states, My first instinct was to let him go his way. From this thought the reader can tell that the man has no inclination of killing the snake at first and did not see him as any sort of immediate threat. With the author s decision to write the passage in the first person perspective of the man it has a crucial impact of skewing details to reflect off of his perceptions, allowing for a better insight on the character. Another example that helps the readers empathize with the man is when he reveals his views on a potential killing by mentioning, I have never killed an animal I was not obliged to kill. Although all that the man says is that he will only kill an animal if necessary, by choosing to inform the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1979, AT T filled the telecommunications industry with revolutionary ideas by developing a mode for data transmission using a light, called fiber optic cable. This mode produced a bandwidth of 44.736 Mbps and could multiplex 672 trunk circuits on one fiber alone (Cole, M. 2000). However, this development was merely the start of a huge extension to telecommunications, something that would transform the industry constantly. Although AT T brought in fiber optic technology in 1979, they weren t the first company to think of such a creative idea. The conception of interchanging data by making use of light ... In 1987, an additional accomplishment in the fiber optics industry was fulfilled; this accomplishment was the erbium doped fiber amplifier, which admitted numerous channels of light to coexist on a single circuit. This fiber amplifier rendered sufficient channels for single fiber cable to manage 80 million telephone calls at the same time (Greatest Achievements, 2000). Nowadays, fiber optic technology carries data by distributing light pulses along slim strands of plastic or glass fiber by means of a laser or light emitting diode (LED). Strands of fiber are comprised of three major components: the core, cladding, and buffer coating. The contained by part of the fiber is called the core. A fiber s core is the pathway where the light passes through. Encompassing the core is optical matter called cladding. Cladding recurrently reflects light pulses stimulating the pulses to pass through easily by way of the fiber core. The buffer coating functions as a covering for the cladding and the core by shielding it from external elements, for example, moisture (Fotec, 1996). The glass fibers that constitute the core of the fiber strands employed in contemporary fiber optic systems are generally established on pure sand. Even though Hobbes may have intended this to be figurative without the actual leaders fighting, but their armies doing their work, this seems to fit the same kind of description. Hobbes really means that kings, or in this case chiefs, are always looking to fight each other, always ready for battle, always looking to rid themselves of their opponents. His rise in politics and higher echelons of power was due to his mysteriously sharp mind coupled with cunning desire to be on the top of the national politics. At to start with, it appeared to innocuously ricochet off, yet as we drove not far off we understood that the stone took out a piece of the windshield and spread a split most of the way over the surface of the glass. They act under the assumption that man is a rational being who will act in his own self interest. Humanity id broadly diverse meaning that each individual has their own ideas as to how society should run and how people should live.(heywood) This inevitably results in disagreement and this is where politics steps in. A social dilemma is when individuals choose actions that will affect others as well as themselves. The individual will aim to benefit themselves short term which generally results in a lower joint outcome. If the individuals acted collectively they would achieve a better optimal outcome than the one they would achieve on their own. These social dilemmas have been characterised in game theory by the prisoners dilemma. They will achieve the Nash equilibrium which is lower than the socially desirable outcome. However, there are some fears that the role of necessity has been trumped by reasonableness in Belize that will consequently lead to the court making the contract for the parties. The preliminary issue is how should we understand necessity . Some say it is necessary to make the contract work. Some others propose that it is meant to give effect to the intention of the parties. To uphold the principle of freedom of contract, the court must give effect to what the contractual parties intended therefore the court does not inquire into the subjective intention of the either party. If the treatments can be found in and outside of the trial, then you don t need the consent of the patient. For example, a trial comparing a beta blocker with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor for treatment of hypertension should not be approved for a waiver of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author states, Should specific informed consent be sought from a patient enrolled in the study? If so, then what should be done if the patient chooses not to participate (Truog et al. 1999)? In this scenario the patient does not give their consent to participate in the trial so the dilemma of what to do with the patient rises. Should no data be collected on the patient or should they be moved out of the program and if that happens, what was the point of having the trial in the first place? If you have to collect informed consent from patients in the trial it is going to make the data polls smaller and harder to collect. Genuine clinical treatments must exist in balance when weigh against one another (Truog et al. 1999). That this is trying to explain is that when in a trial you cannot have a treatment that has more risks or wait time compared to an alternative treatment. For example, if treatment one has larger risks and a longer recovery time compared to treatment two, which has fewer risks and a short recovery time, then the treatments are not balanced. In this example treatment one and two have the same over all out come, but since treatments are not balanced the patient must give informed consent before undergoing any treatment. If informed consent is not collected, how well the patients know if they are getting the treatment in the trial that best suits their wishes? The author states If the ... • 54. How the Length of a Wire Affects its Resistance How the Length of a Wire Affects Its Resistance In my physics coursework I am going to investigate the effect of the length of a wire on its resistance. Resistance is the measure of how easy it is for current to flow through a wire. Current is the rate of flow of charge through a conductor, and it is measured in amps using an ammeter. To help me plan my investigation I have completed a preliminary experiment in which I investigated the effect of the thickness of a wire on its resistance, using three constantan wires and one copper wire. I found that the resistance increased as the thickness of the wire decreased, however, when I did the test with the copper wire I found that it was so unresistant that there would not be a lot of point in... I have, however, drawn two different lines of best fit, because my results from wire lengths of 150cm to 300cm are such a big jump away from my other results, that I believe that, as we recorded the two sets of results (20cm 100cm and 150cm 300cm) on different days, we performed the experiment with the longer lengths of ... • 55. Blue Trail Narrative When I first set out for the Blue Trail I did not know what to expect. I ve been on several trails before that were infested with overgrowth and never found them amusing, so what s so special about this one? Finding the trail wasn t particularly difficult, since I knew the campus from its sustainable farm to the music building overlooking its own lawn and pond; however, once I got there I was surprised. Right on the edge of the road, the forest had muses all around to draw inspiration from. I found myself transfixed by every little squirrel that would not run away from me, since I was in their world and not the other way around. Surrounded by an ocean of orange pine leaves, I wondered how much longer until fall would come and transform everything. THUNK. I tripped on several tree roots throughout the path and realized I was out of my element. There wasn t that much human activity there either, besides the whooshing sound of cars passing the road nearby or the lone blonde girl that sat along the path. Of course, I avoided talking to other people during my walk because that would ruin the time for self contemplation. Though, I must admit that I was distracted all around by the tree stumps, beer bottles, spiders, gnats, and rocks on the path. But, despite seeing the red barns and ... However, I am reminded of my mother, whose idea of a family vacation is remaining connected to her co workers through email, phone, text, and various other means throughout going to a new place. Every summer I would go to Michigan with my family, my mother would be the one having the least fun. Even in non wooded areas where the jungle is built by humans and the landscape is of her birth, my mother could never disconnect. But I digress, this is supposed to be about the serene woods, squirrels, and the magic held ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
