The Unjust Death of Socrates Essays
The Unjust Death of Socrates
The question of why Socrates was executed and if he deserved the charges put against him has been
asked by historians for centuries.
Socrates has a unique position in the history of philosophy. On one hand he is the most influential on
another he is the least known. In his later life he is seen to stalk the streets barefoot, to spite
shoemakers. He went about arguing and questioning people and revealing inconsistencies in their
beliefs. He began teaching students but never accepted payments for doing so. This was possible
because of the inheritance left by his father. Socrates wrote nothing of himself so we are dependent
upon the works of both his students and associates who present a view as close to ... Show more

The shaky past of Athens, after the loss of the war against the Spartans and the overthrow of the
democracy they loved and fought for caused suspicion in Socrates who had association to Critas, a
bloodthirsty tyrant in an oligarchy called the Thirty Tyrants From a harmless town character Socrates
influence on the youth of Athens was being questioned.
Socrates was brought into the courts under charges of impiety and corruption of minors. Socrates did
not believe in the divinities of the city state. The punishment decided upon was an execution, in the
hope that Socrates would choose exile, a punishment that would have satisfied the jury.
Socrates takes the death penalty in stride, as a man of almost 70 years he would rather die honorably
than waste away in his older years. He claims that he will receive free meals, an honor kept only for
athletes who win at the Olympic games.
The execution of Socrates is not justified. The charges that were brought against Socrates had taught
all his adult life, without molestation, in a state that was well known for its democracy and fairness.
The Athenians were not brutal people and executions were rare. Socrates had to drink a poisonous
hemlock in order to die, a non brutal method of death. We must understand Athens past in order to
make judgment. I believe that the form of punishment was very extreme in this impressionable city
and very uncommon and unalike the portrayed view of the typical Athenian. Socrates

Lady Eboshi In Princess Mononoke
Throughout the movie Princess Mononoke, Lady Eboshi is portrayed as a negative character.
Although Lady Eboshi actions may come off as negative, I do believe throughout the movie she also
has many positive characteristics. Lady Eboshi has two very different sides to her. On one hand she
cares deeply about the people within her town and has made work for everyone who has been rejected
by society and on the other hand cares very much so about her power and what she can do to get more.
Although Lady Eboshi cares for everyone in her gated community she cares more about the woman
than the men. Throughout the movie there are many examples of Eboshis feminist attitude but a clear
one is the power and work she gives the women within her community.

Marriage Is The Legal Or Officialising Process
Marriage is an institution that ages back to ancient societies. It offered a secure environment and legal
benefits to facilitate the granting of property rights. Marriage is the legal or officialising process by
which two people under go to be recognized publicly and by law .It is the joining of two people in a
bond that relatively lasts until death, but in practice is increasingly cut short by divorce .Marriage
allows a couple to have a stable relationship that is recognized by the state and by whatever religious
views the couple chooses to conform to , as well as providing a good environment in which to raise
children. With continuous increasing amount of premarital cohabitation, single parent families and
children born outside of wedlock, as well as divorce, it seems that the institution has lost its
popularity. This essay argues that the institution of marriage has ceased to have relevance to modern
society because it protects against harms itself creates, with that divorce rates have increased
extremely above all it defies the modern idea of equality.
With the increasing popularity of homosexuality not only among the average population but also
almost celebrities, marriage equality has become the new trend. Marriage is an outdated institution as
it defies the modern idea of equality. Specifically sexual equality it has a tendency to create vast
inequality in a society. The religious definition of a marriage is when two people of opposite sex make
an oath before God

Essay Penn State Scandal
The Jerry Sandusky case had a major impact on Penn State. It affected both academics and athletics in
a major way. In this essay I will discuss the situation that occurred and the impact that the social
media had on this once great school. Jerry Sandusky is a retired American football coach. He was the
assistant coach at Pennsylvania State University under the legendary Joe Paterno for 30 years. He was
the defensive coordinator for the football team. He is also the founder of The Second Mile. The
Second Mile is a non profit organization that serves underprivileged youth. This is where Jerry

authorities, both of these men were fired by the board. The FBI had stated that after conducting an
investigation that these senior officials had known about Sandusky s actions as early as 1998 and had
failed to disclose this information to authorities. On October 9, 2012, Jerry Sandusky was sentenced to
a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 60 years in prison. Spanier, Curley, and Schultz have been
charged with grand jury perjury, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and child endangerment in
association with the scandal. Paterno and McQueary never had any charges pressed on them because
they did what they were obligated to do. McQueary had reported the incident to his superior which is
Joe Paterno. Joe Paterno also reported the incident to his superior who is Curley and Schultz. This
whole situation caused a huge reaction nationwide. The media had criticized the University for being
so irresponsible. Many radio stations and newspapers harshly criticized the school for this scandal.

The novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini fits in the American literary canon because it exhibits
characteristics of American culture and has impact on it. The American literary canon is perpetually
changing and the criteria for being accepted has drastically changed over time. The exclusivity of
distinct canons insures that they remain influential but diverse, however canons previously only
consisted of old or dead white men. Since then, society has evolved it s way of thinking. Critics began
allowing a more diverse selection of authors into the canon, while still maintaining the exclusivity,

Feminist Literary Analysis Paper 2
20 March 2015
A Lesson in Oppression From the beginning of time and around the world, women have been
subjected to patriarchal oppression in various forms. From economic hardships such as wage gaps or
an inability to own property, to social mores such as submission in marriage and sexual
objectification, women are systematically treated as second class citizens without a voice. African
American women have faced these gendered challenges in addition to racial discrimination in the
forms of slavery, unfair taxation, red lining, unequal access to education and derogatory media
representation to name a few. Passing by Nella Larsen portrays two African American women as main
characters who experience racial and gender oppression in various ways. Webster s Dictionary defines
oppression as: the state of being subject to unjust treatment or control, prolonged cruel or unjust
treatment or control; mental pressure or distress. Larsen s story delves into social and feminist issues
of oppression such as loss of identity, oppressiveness of marriage, women s independence relating to
women s lack of independence, the importance of marriage in society, how race and class function in
society, and how relationships are dictated by race, class, and gender.
Many of the issues explored in the story were likely experiences by the author herself. Similar to the
main character Irene, Nella Larsen was

Live Jazz Concert Reflection
I had a really good experience being in a Live Jazz presentation. I got to know how the instrument
sound in live. And I am going to introduce the instruments that the musicians used in the presentation.
First, we have an instrument that we can t miss in a jazz band, I am talking about the trumpet. He did
not use a mute or anything but the sound of his trumpet was so smooth. Next, I have the Piano, in this
jazz band presentation the piano was really important because most of the time, the pianist was the
one introducing the mood of the song. You could tell excitement or sadness from the piano since the
beginning. Also, another very important instrument from jazz history is the saxophone. In this
occasion, the saxophonist had a Tenor Sax which had a really strong sound and the characteristic of a
really low pitch. Also, we had the Bass, another very common instrument in jazz history. This bass
was always giving us that background sound along with the piano when the rest of the band was
playing a solo or playing together. Lastly but not least important we have ... Show more content on

I loved how the band was based on improvisation and solos. I think that was the main reason I like the
presentation. MY overall impression of the live jazz band is that even though they are improvising,
they all now their parts, they all now the rhythm that they have to follow, basically, all they do is go
with the flow supporting each other. This was different from other experiences because, other band
concerts follow the same organization of the song over and over. With jazz is a different story, a jazz
band will never play the same song two times the exact same way. That is going to be imposible
because they play based on their emotion at that time. Obviously they have to follow a scrip in some
point of the song but when they get to the improvisation, they just let it go and other bands from other
genders do not do

cars are quite complex and most of their maintenance services demand professional mechanic.
However, there are a few do it yourself maintenance tasks such as replacing filters that you can do on

Type of car filters and why need replacement
Air filters: They trap harmful contaminants and prevent them from entering the engine of your vehicle.
It is good to ensure they are clean since dirty and contaminated filters can cause engine damage and

They are crucial elements in protecting the fuel system of your vehicle. They require routine
maintenance so as to prevent even the tiniest specks of dirt particles from entering your fuel system.
As a result, your fuel injector is not clogged by dirt which may block fuel delivery to your engine or
cause poor gas mileage and sub par vehicle performance.
How to replace air filters
It is quite easy to change the air filters of your car. You only need to ensure you have parked your car
safely with the appropriate tools and the right type of air filter as specified by the vehicle
manufacturer. Once you are ready, proceed as follows;
Locate the air filters: Ensure the engine is cool before beginning the replacement. Most air filters are
usually located in the black plastic casing close to the top of your engine.
Open the casing: You will need a standard screwdriver, Phillips head screwdriver, butter knife and rag
to open the casing depending on whether the case is held in place by screws or metal clips. Use the
right screwdriver to unscrew the screws.
Remove the old and replace: Lift the old air filter out of the casing, wipe any dirt in the casing with
the rag and place the new air filter at the top. Reattach the screws or clips to finish the replacement

The Tax Rate And Private Savings Essay
Figure (7) may work as another evidence of the inability of Egyptian tax system to mobilize domestic
savings, as it shows that while domestic private savings, as a percent of GDP, was fluctuating around a
downward sloping trend, marginal tax rate was fluctuating around a relatively horizontal trend which
indicates that marginal tax rate has no or insignificant power over stimulating domestic private
savings.
Figure 7.Marginal Tax Rate and Private Domestic Savings to GDP Source: Author s calculations based
on data extracted from Ministry of Finance, Monthly Financial Report, different editions.
To verify this conclusion, the effect of main sources of tax revenue (taxes on income, taxes on
property, taxes on goods and services and tariff) on domestic savings will be examined statistically.
The only source of tax revenue that has statistically significant effect on domestic savings is property
tax. Tax on properties is negatively related to domestic savings with coefficient 12, see appendix (3).
Accordingly, small reduction in property taxes will have magnitude increase in domestic savings.
Thus, if financial markets are operating efficiently, tax cut on properties will have a considerable
positive effect on the process of economic growth, especially since property taxes represent only
3.6%, in average, of total tax revenue.
While domestic saving is a leakage of income that flows outside the economy; however, it can be re
injected in the economy again

After many years of trial and error, a combination of inventors and engineers developed a practical,
effective internal combustion engine that greatly affected the world. This paper will give opposing
views on the background and analyze the effects it had on transportation and the environment. The
invention of the internal combustion engine sprouted from the work of several engineers and inventors
across Europe and into America. First, in 1859, Jean Joseph Etienne Lenoir developed the first
practical internal combustion engine which after many modifications and changes, led to the modern
engine that plays a crucial role in today s society. Prior to Lenoir, external combustion engines such as

The automobile became a link to individual freedom and mobility. With the automobile, came one of
the most widely used technologies in the world, the invention of the internal combustion engine which
has left a noticeable impact on many parts of today s world. One of the most widely debated and
controversial topics having to do with the automobile is its effect on the environment. Al Gore, former
United States Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize award winner, has spent many years trying to
argue the negative effects that the internal combustion engine leaves on our planet. In his presidential
campaign in 2000, he preached the ideas of a cleaner environment and better ways of living. He said,
When we seek to artificially enhance our capacity to acquire what we need from the earth, we do so at
the direct expense of the earth s ability to provide naturally what we are seeking. We frequently ignore
the impact of our technological alchemy on natural processes. When we manufacture millions of
internal combustion engines and automate the conversion of oxygen to CO2, we interfere with the
earth s ability to cleanse itself of the impurities that are normally removed from the atmosphere. He
has led many people to believe that the automobile of today is leaving a terrible and lasting effect on
the earth s atmosphere, and that it is one of the primary causes of the term Global Warming. Although

the colors appear in the rainbow. Colors are everywhere: the flowers that grow along the sidewalk, the

to relay information to us, for example, whether it will rain or not based on the color of the sky and
clouds, no to touch a snake if certain colors touch, or even is someone is angry based on the color of

Completing An EPQ On Colour Qualia
Completing an EPQ on colour qualia, which had me delve into a mixture of Psychology and

I ve had an intrinsic obsession with Psychology long before knowing of the academic discipline, and

Economics Elasticity Essay
Businesses know that they face demand curves, but rarely do they know what these curves look like.
Yet sometimes a business needs to have a good idea of what part of a demand curve looks like if it is
to make good decisions. If Rick s Pizza raises its prices by ten percent, what will happen to its
revenues? The answer depends on how consumers will respond. Will they cut back purchases a little
or a lot? This question of how responsive consumers are to price changes involves the economic
concept of elasticity.
Elasticity is a measure of responsiveness. Two words are important here. The word measure means
that elasticity results are reported as numbers, or elasticity coefficients. The word responsiveness
means that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it is greater than one, economists say that demand is elastic.
Products which have few good substitutes generally have a lower elasticity of demand than products
with many substitutes. As a result, more broadly defined products have a lower elasticity than
narrowly defined products. The price elasticity of demand for meat will be lower than the price
elasticity of pork, and the price elasticity for soft drinks will be less elastic than the price elasticity for
colas, which in turn will be less elastic than the price elasticity for
Pepsi.
Time plays an important role in determining both consumer and producer responsiveness for many
items. The longer people have to make adjustments, the more adjustments they will make. When the
price of gasoline rose rapidly in the late 1970s as a result of the OPEC cartel, the only adjustment
consumers could initially make was to drive less. With time they could also move closer to work or
find jobs closer to home, and switch to more fuel efficient cars.
The concept of elasticity can help explain some situations that at first glance may seem puzzling. If
American farmers all have excellent harvests, they may have a very poor year financially. They may
be better off if they all have mediocre harvests. If a bus company decides it needs more revenue and
tries to get it by raising fares, its revenues may decrease rather than increase.

John Milton s epic Paradise Lost is one that has brought about much debate since its writing. This epic
tells the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, although from a different perspective than what most people

the ultimate villain. The way in which Satan is portrayed in this story has caused speculation as to
whether Satan is actually a hero in this situation. He certainly has heroic qualities throughout the story,

heroic voyages, leader and chief warrior in battle during and after the War in Heaven, and through it
all the most powerful speaker, able to rally and organize his troops with the eloquence of his appeals
to their own heroic values. (Forsyth 30).
While many arguments can be made to defend Satan as the hero of this story, his power clearly
declines throughout the poem. In the end, he does not achieve his goal. Satan is bitter, but also
acknowledges the reality of his circumstances (Smith). We see Satan reach his peak, then his power
gently declines by the end of the story. Although Satan is powerful and persevering, he is no match for
God. We begin to see more of his flaws. Satan is undoubtedly charismatic and persuasive in his
speeches, as well as a powerful military leader, yet he seems to be somewhat hypocritical as well. For
example, when we are first introduced to Satan, he tells his followers not to be afraid, yet he is afraid
himself. Some might view this as Satan being brave, but this could also be viewed as him being
deceptive, which illustrates how he

The Production and Consumption of Ethanol as Fuel
The production and consumption of ethanol as fuel is presented by several interesting facts. The
ability to compete with non renewable fossil fuels, concern about the environment and reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions, and have a source of fuel coming from agriculture as a alternative outlet for
agricultural producers, ethanol production became an important and endorsed industrial process
(Mussatto et al., 2010).
Historically, Brazil was a example of country that started with a government program called Pro
álcool in 1975 to increase the production of ethanol, aimed to replacing the use of gasoline, reducing
oil imports at a moment that the crise of oil increased the price this combustible (Martines Filho et al.,
2006).
Sugarcane is an important tropical plant that is produced in Brazil. This forage is included in the
family of Poaceae, the same family of corn, wheat, rice and sorghum. Sugarcane is originally from
Southeast Asia and was introduced to Brazil in the 16th century, when Brazil was a Portuguese colony.
Using this raw material Brazil is the large producer of sugar and the second large producer of ethanol.
Brazil has the largest market of biofuel using sugarcane as raw material, making this biofuel a import
renewable fuel with cost competitive to replace the petroleum fuel for transport. Producing almost the
same amount in 2005, Brazil use less than half of the area to cultivate the crop to produce ethanol than
United States, wich use mainly corn as raw

the unbearable lightness of being Essay
The Unheard Voice of Commitment nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; What the reader understands of the
infidelity of Milan Kundera s characters in The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a mere distraction
from the real substance of the story and of the character s real purpose. Kundera offers the reader a red
herring and only through close examination can one dissect and abstract the true essence of each
character s thread that links them to one another in this story. For it is not clearly seen: in fact, it can
not be seen at all. It is the fierce absence of the word commitment that is so blatantly seen in each
individual, yet the word itself is buried so deeply inside of Tomas and Tereza that it takes an animal s

Her feeling was rather that, given the nature of the human couple, the love of man and woman is a
priori inferior to that which can exist (at least in the best instances) in the love between man and dog,
that oddity of human history probably unplanned by the creator (297). Tereza knew as the dog lay
dying that the reason why she snuggled so close to Karenin was her commitment. That same
commitment was the reason why she still slept next to Tomas every night. Love, whether we perceive
it or not, has a hold that stitches souls together in the patchwork of life. It was not until after the dog s
death that Tomas grasped this idea as well. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Karenin proved to be a
symbol of Tomas and Tereza s marriage and the prospect of death seemed to inevitably doom the
marriage. Tereza understood that Karenin s commitment to please was the reason why the dog held on.
Kundera s following passage reflects this, It was sad, what she said, yet without realizing it they were
happy. They were happy not in spite of their sadness but thanks to it. They were holding hands and
both had the same image in their eyes: a limping dog who represented ten years of their lives (293). In
the existence of a dog there was a light. This light did not fade when the dog s existence was ceased,
yet grew brighter in the eyes of a man. Tomas learned that in his years of endless escapades and
rendevous with strange woman, was his resistence to love and commitment to Tereza. He

The preoperative phase begins when the decision to have surgery is made. It is used to assess the
patients suitability for surgery, identify potential risk factors, educate the patient on avoiding
complications of surgery and anaesthesia, and plan to meet the patients needs for a safe and sustained
recovery upon discharge (Berman, 2014, p. 1015). This process includes addressing all parameters on
the preoperative checklist. Fasting is an important part in the preoperative phase. Preoperative fasting
is the practice of a patient abstaining from oral food and fluid intake for a certain amount of time

The Central Nervous System
Famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson once said, Everything we do, every thought we ve ever
had, is produced by the human brain. But exactly how it operates remains one of the biggest unsolved
mysteries, and it seems the more we probe its secrets, the more surprises we find (BrainyQuote). The
brain is like a galaxy. There is general knowledge of the universe; however, new secrets of planets,
moons, and stars are discovered on a daily basis. Similarly, scientists know the basic structure and
functions of the brain, but new aspects of the brain are revealed everyday.
The brain is part of the central nervous system (CNS). Its role is to receive signals, decode the signals,
and send response signals down the spinal cord to the rest of the body. Signals are received from
different parts of the brain depending on which sensory organs receive stimuli (Carter, Gray 697).
Once sensory organs receive stimuli, stimuli are transmitted to sensory memories, which are
physiological parts of the nervous system [that directly sensors to the brain] (Kinster, Grobstein).
Sensory memories then pass selected stimuli to hippocampus in the forebrain, and the hippocampus
sends the integrated memory to neurons in the form of electrical impulses (Mohs). The human brain is
similar to the Congress in that thousands of bills are introduced in the Congress, but only a few bills
that are deemed to have significance move on to categorical committees. Resembling the journey of
bills,

Teach-Back Nursing Research
Patients are struggling with their discharge plans, unable to manage their care as evidenced by
complications reported after discharge (McBride Andrews, 2013; Kangovi et al., 2012). Postoperative
complications may be related to the nurse s inability to assess a patient s comprehension of discharge
instructions accurately (Ashbrook Sehgal, 2012; Fredericks, 2010). Nurses as part of the healthcare
team are responsible for effectively preparing patients for the transition to self care in the home
setting. Opportunities for practice improvement exist as nurses perform this important task. Teaching

The Historical Inquiry Of The Greek World
After 800 B.C, the historical inquiry of the Greek world changed tremendously, as did Greek life that
opened up an intellectual revolution of energy. The sixth century B.C. was the beginning it this
revolution with Thales of Miletus and continued with other philosophers (Breisach, 2007). The New
Greek philosophers pursed the basic substance from which all things known in the universe was made
up of. Historical writing was beginning written as poems by the philosophers. Writing poems in a
historical approach had the philosophers exploring the mystery of the cosmos instead of the common
problems of human existence. The fourth century is when the Sophists discovered that their attention
was connected to the phenomena that dealt with everyday human life. The Greeks grew more
confident in the practical and intellectual mastery of the world and the ways to record it (Breisach,
2007).
Herodotus and Thucydides had different views on war and their approach to the accounts of the wars.
Both aimed to write historical accounts of the wars they wrote about. Herodotus ended his cultural
history by celebrating his favorite city state Athens along with other Greek city states. In several ways,
Herodotus differed from other historians and mythologist from precedent eras. He did not completely
banish the supernatural from his Histories. His accounts of the Persian Wars he verbally expressed was
mostly due to past events to natural causes (Richard, 2003). Thucydides focused his works just on

Essay about Etiology of Developmental Dyslexia
Etiology of Developmental Dyslexia
The long disputed debate about the primary cause of dyslexia is still very much alive in the field of
psychology. Dyslexia is commonly characterized as a reading and writing impairment that affects
around 5% of the global population. The disorder has frequently been hypothesized to be the result of
various sensory malfunctions. For over a decade, studies have made major contributions to the
disorder s etiology; however, scientists are still unclear of its specific causal. Initially, dyslexia was
thought to be a reading disorder in children and adults (1). Later it was suggested to consist of both a
visual and writing component, therefore characterizing it as more of a learning disability which ...

While it was important to locate the specific cause of the disorders manifestations, it seemed that the
most effective results would be achieved by a collective approach. This kind of approach would
encompass ideas placed forth by both the cognitive and neurological theoretical ideas which currently
existed in the current research of the etiology of dyslexia.
The phonological deficit hypothesis of dyslexia is one of the most long standing explanations existing
in psychological research. The theory was coined by a man known as the father of dyslexia, Pringle
Morgan in 1896. Morgan viewed reading as a process that critically involved the segmentation of text
into graphemes (1). These graphemes served as the earliest precursors to phonemes (the small unit of
language), such that grapheme to phoneme conversion is equivalent to the whole sound of a word (1),
(5). The process is said to both require that a reader assemble and address a word s phonology.
Dyslexics are said to have phonological deficits which caused phonemic representation difficulties;
they would often fare worse than others when it came to mapping sounds into letters in the brain, and
with phonemic recall (1,5). Deficits in dyslexics ability to retain short term word memory and
problems with segmentation of words into phonemes (e.g., auditory discrimination), lent support to
these ideas (5).
A study by Petra Georgiewa and colleagues investigated the phonological

Theoretical Foundations Of Advanced Nursing
Pain Concept

Kaplan University
MN502: Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing
Dr. Phelps Introduction
Concepts are ideas that can assist nurses with understanding various situations. This enables
researchers seeking scientific theories in order to identify and measure theory components. It is best to
have clear concepts in order to prevent misunderstandings. Confusion can hinder patient s knowledge
when providing patient education. Poor communication can lead to unintentional non compliance and
delay recovery processes (Stewart, Schofield, Elliott, Torrance, Leveille, 2014).
Pain
Young, old, male, female, we all feel degrees of pain for a variety of reasons. Pain is real and it is
different for everyone. Pain can hold a magnitude of negative effects for all. Medication and non
medication interventions are approaches that can lessen pain. To understand pain, and how to manage
pain, one should explore the true concept of pain.
Pain can refer to an emotional, psychological, or spiritual state; also, pain may result from a physical
condition. The purpose of this paper is to study the concept of pain and to comprehend the
pathophysiology of physical pain. Physical pain can be acute or chronic, mild or severe, dull or sharp,
and in a precise location or referred (Mosby s Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing Health Professions,
2006). Through understanding this concept, nurses can initiate interventions that will ease the

Detroit s bankruptcy filing sent a cold chill down my back as I read the article. Detroit is the largest
city in the United States to file for bankruptcy ever. Although Detroit might be the largest city ever to
file for bankruptcy, it is definitely not the only city to file for Chapter 9. Other cities that join Detroit
on the Chapter 9 list would include Jefferson, AL; Stockton, CA; Harrisburg, PA; San Bernardino,
CA; Mammoth Lakes, CA; Central Falls, RI and Boise County, ID. Between these eight broke cities
Mammoth Lakes, Harrisburg and Boise County were amongst those that were dismissed. The Chapter

It is the federal government s duty to take action on behalf of the state and its people. History has
shown us when the federal government does not take affirmative action and assure the people matters
are in order; people become frantic, hence the 1920 s stock market crash. According to the Wall Street
Journal, the federal government should not be held accountable for everything. In their views, the
current level of expectation regarding the federal government is extremely unrealistic. It is only fair to
agree with the Wall Street Journal. The people should realize that the federal government cannot
supervise every aspect of government or the citizens or each individual. The federal government
should not feel obligated nor should they provide funding to any cities to preserve them from going
into bankruptcy. Unless the federal government is a direct contributor, the government should not be
held responsible to bail out any city and I believe the idea alone is very detrimental to the current
economy. At this very moment the United States total national deficit currently stands at
$16,787,451,118,147. Opening the door for bailouts is comparable to opening Pandora s Box, a very
dangerous thing for our economy and for our children s futures. I do expect the federal government to
step in, formulate a plan, and seek ways to get the city out of debt;

Hillary Clinton Is Not The Right Choice
Hillary Clinton
President of the United States, the highest office in our nation. A respected title, a praiseworthy title,
an honorable title, but some may ask why anyone would want to be President.
For the fame or power? Well, that is how most people think the candidate, Hillary Clinton, thinks of it.
Trump, Cruz, Kasich, Clinton, and Sanders are the remaining candidates still in the race for the
presidency. All candidates have their faults, but Hillary s biggest fault is how she is campaigning.
When people listen to her presidential campaigns, they are not hearing politics or how she is going to
improve our country; they are hearing Hillary attacking her competitors, trying to make her fellow
candidates look weak. Our President should not behave in that way, their actions reflects on us, the
people of the United States. Hillary Clinton is not the right choice to be our upcoming President of the
United States.
Hillary Rodham Clinton was born on October 26, 1947, she is the daughter of Hugh
Rodham, owner of a fabric store, and Dorothy Rodham, an uneducated stay at home mother.
Clinton is the oldest of her two brothers and grew up in Park Ridge, a suburb in Chicago, Illinois.
She did very well in school and wanted to make a change in children s rights, Clinton made her own
fundraisers, such as a small circus and sporting events, to benefit children living in poverty.

Love is a Weakness in Shakespeare s Works
Love is blind, and lovers cannot see says Shakespeare about love. The fact that love incapacitates
people made him think like that. Indeed people in love do many things which actually they did not
want to do, say many things which they didn t have to say, didn t see things that they had to see. These
impossibilities make people weak. Life and other people always use especially those weaknesses for
hurting or damaging someone, also this weakness makes them open to take advantage of them by
other people. Shakespeare recognizes that and makes adaptation to his writings. He shows us the how
characters find themselves in a conflict which love caused. He always gives us the impression of Love
is weakness .
Revenge, love, faith... These feelings are the foundations of the Much Ado about Nothing which is one
of the rare comedies written out by Shakespeare. It maintains its importance even though four and half
centuries passed after it s been written. Surely most important factor of this success is its cleverly
fictionalized plot. Shakespeare gives us the chance to observe the behaviors and moves of people
when they faced something wrong with their love or lover. We can easily recognize that most wise and
logical person can move unconsciously when it comes to love. For example, Claudio and Hero s love
is one the best example at this point. The royal, gentleman and brave character of the play is
undoubtedly Claudio. When he learns that Hero cheated on him, that romantic guy

Striving For a More Peaceful World
I found this week s readings interesting and very thought provoking, although I was particularly
disturbed by Original Child Bomb by Thomas Merton. I believe this was probably Merton s intended
response to this poem. If nothing else, it certainly gets the reader thinking and hopefully questioning
our actions as a nation.
I think Haidt s definition of moral systems is an interesting one and one which I believe would help
reconcile conflicts between religious morality and secular morality, at least on the surface. If, as a
human group, people viewed morality in this way (values, practices, institutions, psychological
mechanisms used to make social life possible), I believe we might recognize the commonalities
religious and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another idea presented in this week s readings which I found compelling was the brief discussions on
technology and the impact this has on our sense of morality. Merton obviously speaks about
technology to great lengths in his poem about the atomic bomb. In this piece Merton seems to take the
position that technological advances are not always a good thing. In many ways, I would agree with
Merton, especially when it comes to technological advances in weaponry. I believe, as I think Merton
does as well, that many of these advances allow us as a species to dehumanize various groups and
therefore enable us to destroy them with little conscious thought to the moral implications this
destruction has. On the other hand, Haidt takes a different approach at the end of his article, The New
Synthesis in Moral Psychology. He states that with technological advances we become more aware of
people in the rest of the world, not only aware of their achievements but also of their tragedies. As this
happens, our concern for others expands and we increasingly want peace, decency, and cooperation to
prevail in other groups, and in the human group as well. (Haidt, pg. 1001) I found this statement
particularly interesting because, like many others, I often assume that rather than uniting us as a
human species, technology often isolates us and we become more disconnected from our immediate
groups as well as our wider groups. I often,

Compare Qualitative And Pragmatic Approach
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare qualitative and quantitative approaches to research
investigation in social science. After further examination of the relevant literature, a pragmatic
approach has also been taken into consideration within this paper. I will discuss in detail about human
perception and assumption and the impact that this can have on research investigation. I will critically
discuss and compare the epistemological differences of quantitative and qualitative research
approaches with an additional focus on a mixed method approach. I will consider the strengths and
weaknesses of the three approaches, the differences in the research design and methodologies and

Creswell (2003) refers to paradigms as worldviews which he believes to have four elements; post
positivism, constructivism, transformative and pragmatic. Guba (1998) refers to positivism as a
separate entity from other paradigms such as post positivism and constructivism. Tashakkori and
Teddlie (1998) talk about those paradigms discussed by Guba with an addition of pragmatism and
(Shadish, 1995) talks about the concept of logical positivism . Bryman (2004) refers to positivism and
interpretivism and differentiates these from its variations; phenomenology and symbolic
interactionism. To clarify and make myself feel slightly better Morgan (2007) explains that social
scientists can talk about paradigms and each easily mean something entirely different. Morgan talks
about four versions each version treating paradigms as shared belief system influencing the knowledge
that researchers seek. He uses this concept of a paradigm as his main basis for discussion within his
document. (Scotland, 2012) explains that different paradigms consist of differing ontological and
epistemological views and therefore present differing assumptions of reality and knowledge which is
embedded within their research approach. Kuhn (1970) details paradigms as epistemological stances
which influences how research questions are

Pros And Cons Of Blockchain
Blockchain, the future of transactions. It worries many people with confusion, but others embrace it as
the future. In the financial markets, trades happen in a fraction of a second. But actually exchanging
the assets and payments can take days, involving multiple banks and clearinghouses. That can lead to
errors, delays, added costs and unnecessary risks ( Blockchain: The New Technology ). Todays system
is inefficient. It can take days for a transaction to be verified, in that amount of time stocks could
plummet and the market could crash. The extra time makes for more unnecessary risks. Blockchain is
a giant ledger that registers all types of transactions. These transactions can include anything from
selling plants to selling houses, verified in a matter of seconds. Blockchain is virtually unhackable and
is very reliable. Blockchain is so secure because it is decentralized, it utilizes cryptography, and it is
run by its users.
Blockchain is basically a giant ledger, recording payments from many platforms, most notably,
Bitcoin. Blockchain was originally developed as a part of Bitcoin, but Bitcoin and Blockchain are very

The Importance Of The Foster Care System
The foster care system has been around for generations, constantly adjusting the system to modernize
it. But there s been a loss of protection in the system through these last few years. The foster care
system needs to change because children are being placed in unsafe environments, funding is going in
unnecessary places, the adoption process has some discouraging qualifications, and education in the
system doesn t have a huge importance. Children in the foster care system are being put in unsafe
environments on a daily basis, such as abusive, drug using, or alcoholic foster parents. This has
become a pattern, a large number of adults who grew up in the foster care system, have experienced
one, if not more of these unsafe environments. An article by Brittany Hines Clark about her
experience in the foster care system, she says. I went to a long term placement when I was 7 years old.
I stayed there for about five years, but they weren t the most pleasant years. At first, I was the only girl
in the home, with three boys. By the time I was moved, five years later, there were six boys there, and
I was still the only girl. Only one of the boys was my biological brother. During my time in that home,
I was physically and sexually manipulated. So many things went on there, but only my outbursts were
reported to my social worker. I even was put in the home of a different member of that family so that
the foster parent would continue getting paid (Clark).

  • 2. The Unjust Death of Socrates Essays The Unjust Death of Socrates The question of why Socrates was executed and if he deserved the charges put against him has been asked by historians for centuries. Socrates has a unique position in the history of philosophy. On one hand he is the most influential on another he is the least known. In his later life he is seen to stalk the streets barefoot, to spite shoemakers. He went about arguing and questioning people and revealing inconsistencies in their beliefs. He began teaching students but never accepted payments for doing so. This was possible because of the inheritance left by his father. Socrates wrote nothing of himself so we are dependent upon the works of both his students and associates who present a view as close to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shaky past of Athens, after the loss of the war against the Spartans and the overthrow of the democracy they loved and fought for caused suspicion in Socrates who had association to Critas, a bloodthirsty tyrant in an oligarchy called the Thirty Tyrants From a harmless town character Socrates influence on the youth of Athens was being questioned. Socrates was brought into the courts under charges of impiety and corruption of minors. Socrates did not believe in the divinities of the city state. The punishment decided upon was an execution, in the hope that Socrates would choose exile, a punishment that would have satisfied the jury. Socrates takes the death penalty in stride, as a man of almost 70 years he would rather die honorably than waste away in his older years. He claims that he will receive free meals, an honor kept only for athletes who win at the Olympic games. The execution of Socrates is not justified. The charges that were brought against Socrates had taught all his adult life, without molestation, in a state that was well known for its democracy and fairness. The Athenians were not brutal people and executions were rare. Socrates had to drink a poisonous hemlock in order to die, a non brutal method of death. We must understand Athens past in order to make judgment. I believe that the form of punishment was very extreme in this impressionable city and very uncommon and unalike the portrayed view of the typical Athenian. Socrates ... • 3. Lady Eboshi In Princess Mononoke Throughout the movie Princess Mononoke, Lady Eboshi is portrayed as a negative character. Although Lady Eboshi actions may come off as negative, I do believe throughout the movie she also has many positive characteristics. Lady Eboshi has two very different sides to her. On one hand she cares deeply about the people within her town and has made work for everyone who has been rejected by society and on the other hand cares very much so about her power and what she can do to get more. Although Lady Eboshi cares for everyone in her gated community she cares more about the woman than the men. Throughout the movie there are many examples of Eboshis feminist attitude but a clear one is the power and work she gives the women within her community. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Canon The Kite Runner The novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini fits in the American literary canon because it exhibits characteristics of American culture and has impact on it. The American literary canon is perpetually changing and the criteria for being accepted has drastically changed over time. The exclusivity of distinct canons insures that they remain influential but diverse, however canons previously only consisted of old or dead white men. • 10. Feminist Literary Analysis Of By Nella Larsen Farkhanda Wajibul English 102 Prof. S. Dillion Feminist Literary Analysis Paper 2 20 March 2015 A Lesson in Oppression From the beginning of time and around the world, women have been subjected to patriarchal oppression in various forms. From economic hardships such as wage gaps or an inability to own property, to social mores such as submission in marriage and sexual objectification, women are systematically treated as second class citizens without a voice. African American women have faced these gendered challenges in addition to racial discrimination in the forms of slavery, unfair taxation, red lining, unequal access to education and derogatory media representation to name a few. Passing by Nella Larsen portrays two African American women as main characters who experience racial and gender oppression in various ways. Webster s Dictionary defines oppression as: the state of being subject to unjust treatment or control, prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control; mental pressure or distress. Larsen s story delves into social and feminist issues of oppression such as loss of identity, oppressiveness of marriage, women s independence relating to women s lack of independence, the importance of marriage in society, how race and class function in society, and how relationships are dictated by race, class, and gender. And I am going to introduce the instruments that the musicians used in the presentation. First, we have an instrument that we can t miss in a jazz band, I am talking about the trumpet. He did not use a mute or anything but the sound of his trumpet was so smooth. Next, I have the Piano, in this jazz band presentation the piano was really important because most of the time, the pianist was the one introducing the mood of the song. You could tell excitement or sadness from the piano since the beginning. Also, another very important instrument from jazz history is the saxophone. In this occasion, the saxophonist had a Tenor Sax which had a really strong sound and the characteristic of a really low pitch. Also, we had the Bass, another very common instrument in jazz history. This bass was always giving us that background sound along with the piano when the rest of the band was playing a solo or playing together. Lastly but not least important we have ... MY overall impression of the live jazz band is that even though they are improvising, they all now their parts, they all now the rhythm that they have to follow, basically, all they do is go with the flow supporting each other. This was different from other experiences because, other band concerts follow the same organization of the song over and over. With jazz is a different story, a jazz band will never play the same song two times the exact same way. That is going to be imposible because they play based on their emotion at that time. Obviously they have to follow a scrip in some point of the song but when they get to the improvisation, they just let it go and other bands from other genders do not do ... The Tax Rate And Private Savings Essay Figure (7) may work as another evidence of the inability of Egyptian tax system to mobilize domestic savings, as it shows that while domestic private savings, as a percent of GDP, was fluctuating around a downward sloping trend, marginal tax rate was fluctuating around a relatively horizontal trend which indicates that marginal tax rate has no or insignificant power over stimulating domestic private savings. Figure 7.Marginal Tax Rate and Private Domestic Savings to GDP Source: Author s calculations based on data extracted from Ministry of Finance, Monthly Financial Report, different editions. To verify this conclusion, the effect of main sources of tax revenue (taxes on income, taxes on property, taxes on goods and services and tariff) on domestic savings will be examined statistically. The only source of tax revenue that has statistically significant effect on domestic savings is property tax. Tax on properties is negatively related to domestic savings with coefficient 12, see appendix (3). Accordingly, small reduction in property taxes will have magnitude increase in domestic savings. Thus, if financial markets are operating efficiently, tax cut on properties will have a considerable positive effect on the process of economic growth, especially since property taxes represent only 3.6%, in average, of total tax revenue. Yet sometimes a business needs to have a good idea of what part of a demand curve looks like if it is to make good decisions. If Rick s Pizza raises its prices by ten percent, what will happen to its revenues? The answer depends on how consumers will respond. Will they cut back purchases a little or a lot? The word measure means that elasticity results are reported as numbers, or elasticity coefficients. The word responsiveness means that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it is greater than one, economists say that demand is elastic. Products which have few good substitutes generally have a lower elasticity of demand than products with many substitutes. As a result, more broadly defined products have a lower elasticity than narrowly defined products. The price elasticity of demand for meat will be lower than the price elasticity of pork, and the price elasticity for soft drinks will be less elastic than the price elasticity for colas, which in turn will be less elastic than the price elasticity for Pepsi. Time plays an important role in determining both consumer and producer responsiveness for many items. The longer people have to make adjustments, the more adjustments they will make. When the price of gasoline rose rapidly in the late 1970s as a result of the OPEC cartel, the only adjustment consumers could initially make was to drive less. With time they could also move closer to work or find jobs closer to home, and switch to more fuel efficient cars. The concept of elasticity can help explain some situations that at first glance may seem puzzling. If American farmers all have excellent harvests, they may have a very poor year financially. They may be better off if they all have mediocre harvests. If a bus company decides it needs more revenue and tries to get it by raising fares, its revenues may decrease rather than increase. He is a variant of Achilles, who equates honor with his own status...and feels slighted by his commander in chief, refuses his orders and believes himself superior. Both epics turn on the connection between a sense of injur d merit and the hero s wrath. He is Odysseus and Jason on their heroic voyages, leader and chief warrior in battle during and after the War in Heaven, and through it all the most powerful speaker, able to rally and organize his troops with the eloquence of his appeals to their own heroic values. Satan is bitter, but also acknowledges the reality of his circumstances (Smith). We see Satan reach his peak, then his power gently declines by the end of the story. But exactly how it operates remains one of the biggest unsolved mysteries, and it seems the more we probe its secrets, the more surprises we find (BrainyQuote). The brain is like a galaxy. There is general knowledge of the universe; however, new secrets of planets, moons, and stars are discovered on a daily basis. Similarly, scientists know the basic structure and functions of the brain, but new aspects of the brain are revealed everyday. The brain is part of the central nervous system (CNS). Its role is to receive signals, decode the signals, and send response signals down the spinal cord to the rest of the body. Signals are received from different parts of the brain depending on which sensory organs receive stimuli (Carter, Gray 697). Once sensory organs receive stimuli, stimuli are transmitted to sensory memories, which are physiological parts of the nervous system [that directly sensors to the brain] (Kinster, Grobstein). Sensory memories then pass selected stimuli to hippocampus in the forebrain, and the hippocampus sends the integrated memory to neurons in the form of electrical impulses (Mohs). The theory was coined by a man known as the father of dyslexia, Pringle Morgan in 1896. Morgan viewed reading as a process that critically involved the segmentation of text into graphemes (1). These graphemes served as the earliest precursors to phonemes (the small unit of language), such that grapheme to phoneme conversion is equivalent to the whole sound of a word (1), (5). The process is said to both require that a reader assemble and address a word s phonology. Dyslexics are said to have phonological deficits which caused phonemic representation difficulties; they would often fare worse than others when it came to mapping sounds into letters in the brain, and with phonemic recall (1,5). Deficits in dyslexics ability to retain short term word memory and problems with segmentation of words into phonemes (e.g., auditory discrimination), lent support to these ideas (5). A study by Petra Georgiewa and colleagues investigated the phonological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Theoretical Foundations Of Advanced Nursing Pain Concept Britton Lerch Due Date: September 15, 2015 Kaplan University MN502: Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing Dr. Phelps Introduction Concepts are ideas that can assist nurses with understanding various situations. This enables researchers seeking scientific theories in order to identify and measure theory components. It is best to have clear concepts in order to prevent misunderstandings. Confusion can hinder patient s knowledge when providing patient education. Poor communication can lead to unintentional non compliance and delay recovery processes (Stewart, Schofield, Elliott, Torrance, Leveille, 2014). Pain Young, old, male, female, we all feel degrees of pain for a variety of reasons. Pain is real and it is different for everyone. Pain can hold a magnitude of negative effects for all. Medication and non medication interventions are approaches that can lessen pain. To understand pain, and how to manage pain, one should explore the true concept of pain. Pain can refer to an emotional, psychological, or spiritual state; also, pain may result from a physical condition. The purpose of this paper is to study the concept of pain and to comprehend the pathophysiology of physical pain. Physical pain can be acute or chronic, mild or severe, dull or sharp, and in a precise location or referred (Mosby s Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing Health Professions, 2006). Through understanding this concept, nurses can initiate interventions that will ease the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Analysis Of The Article Detroit Bankruptcy Filing Sent... Detroit s bankruptcy filing sent a cold chill down my back as I read the article. Detroit is the largest city in the United States to file for bankruptcy ever. Although Detroit might be the largest city ever to file for bankruptcy, it is definitely not the only city to file for Chapter 9. Other cities that join Detroit on the Chapter 9 list would include Jefferson, AL; Stockton, CA; Harrisburg, PA; San Bernardino, CA; Mammoth Lakes, CA; Central Falls, RI and Boise County, ID. Between these eight broke cities Mammoth Lakes, Harrisburg and Boise County were amongst those that were dismissed. The Chapter 9 list of cities has racked up billions of dollars cumulatively in liabilities which has resulted in the citizens requests for relief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the federal government s duty to take action on behalf of the state and its people. History has shown us when the federal government does not take affirmative action and assure the people matters are in order; people become frantic, hence the 1920 s stock market crash. According to the Wall Street Journal, the federal government should not be held accountable for everything. In their views, the current level of expectation regarding the federal government is extremely unrealistic. It is only fair to agree with the Wall Street Journal. The people should realize that the federal government cannot supervise every aspect of government or the citizens or each individual. The federal government should not feel obligated nor should they provide funding to any cities to preserve them from going into bankruptcy. Unless the federal government is a direct contributor, the government should not be held responsible to bail out any city and I believe the idea alone is very detrimental to the current economy. At this very moment the United States total national deficit currently stands at $16,787,451,118,147. Opening the door for bailouts is comparable to opening Pandora s Box, a very dangerous thing for our economy and for our children s futures. I do expect the federal government to step in, formulate a plan, and seek ways to get the city out of debt; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Hillary Clinton Is Not The Right Choice Hillary Clinton President of the United States, the highest office in our nation. A respected title, a praiseworthy title, an honorable title, but some may ask why anyone would want to be President. For the fame or power? Well, that is how most people think the candidate, Hillary Clinton, thinks of it. Trump, Cruz, Kasich, Clinton, and Sanders are the remaining candidates still in the race for the presidency. All candidates have their faults, but Hillary s biggest fault is how she is campaigning. When people listen to her presidential campaigns, they are not hearing politics or how she is going to improve our country; they are hearing Hillary attacking her competitors, trying to make her fellow candidates look weak. Our President should not behave in that way, their actions reflects on us, the people of the United States. Hillary Clinton is not the right choice to be our upcoming President of the United States. Hillary Rodham Clinton was born on October 26, 1947, she is the daughter of Hugh Rodham, owner of a fabric store, and Dorothy Rodham, an uneducated stay at home mother. Clinton is the oldest of her two brothers and grew up in Park Ridge, a suburb in Chicago, Illinois. She did very well in school and wanted to make a change in children s rights, Clinton made her own fundraisers, such as a small circus and sporting events, to benefit children living in poverty. • 36. Love is a Weakness in Shakespeare s Works Love is blind, and lovers cannot see says Shakespeare about love. The fact that love incapacitates people made him think like that. Indeed people in love do many things which actually they did not want to do, say many things which they didn t have to say, didn t see things that they had to see. These impossibilities make people weak. Life and other people always use especially those weaknesses for hurting or damaging someone, also this weakness makes them open to take advantage of them by other people. Shakespeare recognizes that and makes adaptation to his writings. He shows us the how characters find themselves in a conflict which love caused. He always gives us the impression of Love is weakness . Revenge, love, faith... These feelings are the foundations of the Much Ado about Nothing which is one of the rare comedies written out by Shakespeare. It maintains its importance even though four and half centuries passed after it s been written. Surely most important factor of this success is its cleverly fictionalized plot. Shakespeare gives us the chance to observe the behaviors and moves of people when they faced something wrong with their love or lover. We can easily recognize that most wise and logical person can move unconsciously when it comes to love. For example, Claudio and Hero s love is one the best example at this point. The royal, gentleman and brave character of the play is undoubtedly Claudio. When he learns that Hero cheated on him, that romantic guy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Striving For a More Peaceful World I found this week s readings interesting and very thought provoking, although I was particularly disturbed by Original Child Bomb by Thomas Merton. I believe this was probably Merton s intended response to this poem. If nothing else, it certainly gets the reader thinking and hopefully questioning our actions as a nation. I think Haidt s definition of moral systems is an interesting one and one which I believe would help reconcile conflicts between religious morality and secular morality, at least on the surface. If, as a human group, people viewed morality in this way (values, practices, institutions, psychological mechanisms used to make social life possible), I believe we might recognize the commonalities religious and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another idea presented in this week s readings which I found compelling was the brief discussions on technology and the impact this has on our sense of morality. Merton obviously speaks about technology to great lengths in his poem about the atomic bomb. In this piece Merton seems to take the position that technological advances are not always a good thing. In many ways, I would agree with Merton, especially when it comes to technological advances in weaponry. I believe, as I think Merton does as well, that many of these advances allow us as a species to dehumanize various groups and therefore enable us to destroy them with little conscious thought to the moral implications this destruction has. On the other hand, Haidt takes a different approach at the end of his article, The New Synthesis in Moral Psychology. He states that with technological advances we become more aware of people in the rest of the world, not only aware of their achievements but also of their tragedies. As this happens, our concern for others expands and we increasingly want peace, decency, and cooperation to prevail in other groups, and in the human group as well. (Haidt, pg. 1001) I found this statement particularly interesting because, like many others, I often assume that rather than uniting us as a human species, technology often isolates us and we become more disconnected from our immediate groups as well as our wider groups. I often, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Compare Qualitative And Pragmatic Approach Abstract The purpose of this study is to compare qualitative and quantitative approaches to research investigation in social science. After further examination of the relevant literature, a pragmatic approach has also been taken into consideration within this paper. I will discuss in detail about human perception and assumption and the impact that this can have on research investigation. I will critically discuss and compare the epistemological differences of quantitative and qualitative research approaches with an additional focus on a mixed method approach. I will consider the strengths and weaknesses of the three approaches, the differences in the research design and methodologies and present a logical academic argument to detail my understanding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creswell (2003) refers to paradigms as worldviews which he believes to have four elements; post positivism, constructivism, transformative and pragmatic. Guba (1998) refers to positivism as a separate entity from other paradigms such as post positivism and constructivism. Tashakkori and Teddlie (1998) talk about those paradigms discussed by Guba with an addition of pragmatism and (Shadish, 1995) talks about the concept of logical positivism . Bryman (2004) refers to positivism and interpretivism and differentiates these from its variations; phenomenology and symbolic interactionism. To clarify and make myself feel slightly better Morgan (2007) explains that social scientists can talk about paradigms and each easily mean something entirely different. Morgan talks about four versions each version treating paradigms as shared belief system influencing the knowledge that researchers seek. He uses this concept of a paradigm as his main basis for discussion within his document. (Scotland, 2012) explains that different paradigms consist of differing ontological and epistemological views and therefore present differing assumptions of reality and knowledge which is embedded within their research approach. Kuhn (1970) details paradigms as epistemological stances which influences how research questions are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Pros And Cons Of Blockchain Blockchain, the future of transactions. It worries many people with confusion, but others embrace it as the future. In the financial markets, trades happen in a fraction of a second. But actually exchanging the assets and payments can take days, involving multiple banks and clearinghouses. That can lead to errors, delays, added costs and unnecessary risks ( Blockchain: The New Technology ). Todays system is inefficient. It can take days for a transaction to be verified, in that amount of time stocks could plummet and the market could crash. The extra time makes for more unnecessary risks. Blockchain is a giant ledger that registers all types of transactions. These transactions can include anything from selling plants to selling houses, verified in a matter of seconds. Blockchain is virtually unhackable and is very reliable. Blockchain is so secure because it is decentralized, it utilizes cryptography, and it is run by its users. Blockchain is basically a giant ledger, recording payments from many platforms, most notably, Bitcoin. Blockchain was originally developed as a part of Bitcoin, but Bitcoin and Blockchain are very different. Bitcoin is a single currency and Blockchain is a record of payments that can support many different currencies, the most used being Bitcoin. • 40. The Importance Of The Foster Care System The foster care system has been around for generations, constantly adjusting the system to modernize it. But there s been a loss of protection in the system through these last few years. The foster care system needs to change because children are being placed in unsafe environments, funding is going in unnecessary places, the adoption process has some discouraging qualifications, and education in the system doesn t have a huge importance. Children in the foster care system are being put in unsafe environments on a daily basis, such as abusive, drug using, or alcoholic foster parents. This has become a pattern, a large number of adults who grew up in the foster care system, have experienced one, if not more of these unsafe environments. An article by Brittany Hines Clark about her experience in the foster care system, she says. I went to a long term placement when I was 7 years old. I stayed there for about five years, but they weren t the most pleasant years. At first, I was the only girl in the home, with three boys. By the time I was moved, five years later, there were six boys there, and I was still the only girl. Only one of the boys was my biological brother. During my time in that home, I was physically and sexually manipulated. So many things went on there, but only my outbursts were reported to my social worker. I even was put in the home of a different member of that family so that the foster parent would continue getting paid (Clark). Also in an article by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
