Loss In The Book Of Negroes
Loss is Strong but Memories are Powerful. In the novel The Book of Negroes written by Lawrence
Hill loneliness and love plays an important role in the character development of Aminata Diallo who
is the main character of this novel. This novel emphasizes the loss of the people Aminata loves most
and how she works through the losses of her loved ones with the memories of these people to help her
cope with the losses. Loss is a powerful thing that everyone faces at least once in their lifetime.
Aminata shares the struggles of these losses, how it affects her life, how it makes her fight for what
she believes in and makes her become a strong independant women for young women to look up to
because she was such an important female character. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is when Aminata says I had no idea what had become of my husband or where he
was, but I still believed that if he was still alive and if he was able, he would one day find me. (469).
Hill shows that Aminata is a strong independent women because she knows that if Chekura is still
alive that he would find her and until then she will raise their child and keep her safe. Hill also wants
to show that women don t need the help of a man or any person to be successful in life and Aminata is
one successful person that is not afraid to stand up for what she believes

Aircraft Wing Essay
Design and Analysis of aircraft Wing
Suraj Kumar
K L University, Green Fields, Vaddeswaram, Guntur District, A.P, INDIA, 522502 Department of
Mechanical Engineering, (id no. 13007522)
Abstract:
This deals with bending Finite Element Analysis of the aircraft wing using commercial software
ANSYS. An aircraft wing is made of composite with fibre angles in each ply aligned in different
direction. Various air foil thickness and ply angles were considered to study the effect of bending
torsion decoupling. The laminate characteristics are usually calculated using the number of layer,
stacking sequence, geometric and mechanical properties. A finite number of layers can be combined to
form so many laminates. The only restriction that is imposed on the laminate as an element of
composite structure concerns its total thickness which is assumed to be much smaller than the other
dimensions of the structure.
Aircraft wing model as per the plan should be made in FEA and the model is subjected to various
loading. The loading given by the self weight or due to acceleration due to gravity was discussed and
the deflection over here should be calculated. The wing model is severely affected by the loads on
along wing direction, across wing direction, vertical direction.NACA 2412 airfoil was taken for
designing wing. FLUENT was used for computational fluid dynamic analysis to determine the lift and
drag for wing during zero degreed flaps and angled

Corporate Roles, Personal Virtues, And The Good Life
In the Corporate Roles, Personal Virtues: An Aristotelean Approach to Business Ethics, Robert
Solomon argues that toughness is a virtue, but callousness and indifference is not. Solomon views the
Aristotle approach the proper way, because it considers both personal and business values. However,
Albert Carr argues that business and personal ethics don t mix; and game strategy in business leads to
success. In this paper, I will argue that Carr prevails Solomon s business ethics and his claim.
Aristotle is a philosopher that is known for his interest in virtue ethics, but is more recognized for his
business ethics (Solomon 67). Before explaining the latter, Aristotle explains the role of the virtues in
ethics and the good life through: community, excellence, role identity, integrity, judgement
(phronesis), holism. The Aristotelean approach to community comes first, because we as an individual
find our identity through institutions. Darwinism s survival of the fittest and neo Hobbesian s every
man for themselves contradicts the Aristotelian view. Business and personal agenda needs each other
to be more productive; yet, the corporation one choose will determine the level of happiness or
eudaimonia. Solomon claims that business students now seek jobs that have higher salaries, so he tells
them, to live a decent life by choosing the right company (Solomon 70). Like William Turner
(Bootstrap Bill) who is attached to the Flying Dutchman from Pirates of the Caribbean, business

Adelaide: A Good Place to Die
How many bodies are buried in The Most Liveable City of Adelaide?
What started out as a minor scratch in the face of colonial Adelaide, soon festered and rooted itself in
the dregs of society. A certain type of people to root themselves into foundations of Adelaide soon
began to cast their shadow over the innocent. The shadow grew until it enveloped the city and bogged
the good people down in the wretched muck of the sick and evil. Wickedness and vulgarity run
rampant at biblical proportions, the worst of the worst of human kind: murderers.

Physics Of Skiing Physics
Physics is a very important aspect to how the world functions. It is also vital to understanding skiing.
Skiing is the act of traveling on top of snow on long blades called skis that are attached to the
feet. There are many different types of skiing such as alpine skiing, nordic skiing, ski jumping, and
aerial skiing. Each of these are unique in their own way when it comes to how it is impacted by
physics.
The most common type of skiing is downhill skiing, or otherwise known as alpine skiing. The skier
must be very agile and be able to make quick turns while going at fast speed. In order to do this they
must obtain momentum by turning potential energy into kinetic energy. This is a relationship between
work and energy. The person begins at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

normal force is the force of the ground on the skis. It is opposite in direction of the force of gravity,
but has the same magnitude. The force of kinetic friction acts in the opposite direction of the skier s
movement. It is a fancy name for what was mentioned in the previous paragraph about friction
between the skis and snow. Lastly, the drag force is the air resistance acting in the opposite direction
of the skier s movement. Again, this was stated in the prior paragraph. The forces explain why skis

Safe Circuits
What is Safe Paper; Purpose: My type of circuit is a circuit that when you open the box that the circuit
it wired to, a light turns on and lights up the inside of the box. I chose to do this type of circuit because
i was having trouble finding smaller objects in the middle of the night when it s dark inside my room.
At the time, we were starting our cricut project, during that time i was still having this problem, so
tried to think of a way to fix the problem and do my science project. Then, after thinking i could fix
the problem that i was having and create my science project a the same time, i created this circuit. I

First of all, I think my circuit interacts with the environment because when you need to get something
early in the morning or in the middle of the night, without this kind of circuit/alarm that helps you see
inside the box, you would need to turn of the lights and waste energy by keeping them on, but with my
kind of circuit/alarm you don t need to waste energy because you don t need to turn on the lights.
Second of all, i think my circuit/alarm relates to culture because its main purpose is to help us see
when we need to get something we need to start your day, which is a part of our culture, or put
something on inside the box to wear, like a watch or any type of jewelry which is also apart of our
culture. Last of all,i think my circuit/alarm interacts with ethics because when you are married and
you are sleeping in the same room as your husband/wife, turning on the lights might wake them up,
and that would seem like a rude thing to do/unethical. With my circuit, you don t need to turn on the
lights and potentially wake up your wife/husband, and the light is not so bright that it would wake up

The Importance Of Inequality In Society
Inequality, unspoken reality that is an alarming concern for our society. It is implied as the definitive
allocation of scarce resources in society, which plays a significant role in the way democratic societies
and nations act upon. Inequality is every form of definition; it sets the global problems and increases
the defining political problem of our age. Participating in government helps us assess sets of
complicated values that authorities lay for our welfare. Gaining visibility around the localities that the
government places for their citizens. Being political highlights the ranges where it constitutes our
current understanding of what it entails to be a citizen. Being a constituent of the governmental rituals,
one must perform a set of rules that are assigned by the respective authorities to be a part of the
political world. Rising inequality in this time may not be a huge concern as it was during the Victorian
Era according to the author of the book, Inequality. What Everyone Needs To Know by James K.
Galbraith. However, in order to discuss such concerns where it nearly affects millions of individuals,
businesses, population, and nations, one must gain a mind of a person who understands the meaning of
being a political and knows how to discuss such events in an appropriate manner. Inequality is a
political problem that demands a political solution and it cannot be discussed otherwise. Economists

English 111 Lights, Camera, and Tactics Have you ever wondered where the photo of your favorite
celebrity came from? Who took it? How much was paid for the photo? Was anyone injured or
harassed in the process of taking this photo? Do celebrities have a right to privacy? This essay takes a
look at the paparazzi, the celebrities, the tactics used to take the pictures, and the tactics used to avoid
a photo from being taken.
The Paparazzi
The paparazzi are possibly the most despised media practitioners. Members of this group can be seen
on the streets of Los Angeles and New York, hoping to catch an unguarded moment of a celebrity,
buying coffee, walking a dog, or doing just about any mundane activity. (Mendelson 1) ... Show more

Valdez writes,
Everything from disguises to decoys are used to avoid recognition in public places. At times,
celebrities use multiple cars to cover travel routes. False press statements and an alias can cover a
celebrity s whereabouts. More low tech solutions involve canopies over outdoor events and good old
fashioned bruiser security to keep the paparazzi at bay. (Valdez 6)
There are numerous tactics used to one up the paparazzi, including releasing photos of weddings and
first photos of their newborn babies to publications before the paparazzi can. Valdez reports, Catherine
Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas took perhaps some of the most famous and extreme set of measures
to keep paparazzi out of the picture at their wedding. The security measures cost over $60,000, which
included: All of the caterers, help, suppliers and any other vendors associated with the wedding had to
sign confidentiality agreements (even the ones that didn t get the job). And No wedding guests were
given the time or location of the wedding until the last minute. (Valdez 6) But even with the enormous
measures taken, paparazzo Rupert Thorpe managed to infiltrate the wedding and snap shots of the
bride and groom that he later sold to publications Hello! and The Sun. The celebrity couple was
furious and sought legal action, won a nominal settlement against the publications. (Valdez 6)
Supermodel Heidi Klum took a similar approach to keep paparazzi away from her daughter.

Forms of Government Essay
Many different forms of government have existed throughout civilization. Theocracy, dictatorships,
democracy, and many others have all had periods of time where they reigned as the government of
choice. Arguments could be made in favor of each form of government. The key to finding the most
viable form of government is to consider this: which form of government provides the most stability
for the state? The stability of the state is based upon the foundation of the government. Shaky
foundations lead to short lived or miserable nations. Governments based upon religion, birthrights, or
one man generally do not have solid foundations. The greatest foundation a government can have is
the support of its citizens. Governments which cater to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two dominant forms of government are democracy and authoritarianism. The two socio economic
policies are capitalism and communism. Democracy is a form of government which dominates the
western world. In democracy, every person is given equal input into matters of the state, although this
does happen to varying degrees. There exist many different types of democracy. Absolute or direct
democracy occurs when each citizen personally participates in all decision making processes. This
system is difficult to maintain due to the vast number of people and the necessity for all people to be
informed, logical, and educated when making many decisions. This form of democracy has not existed
in significant sized populations. Representative democracy is a type of government in which the
people elect government officials to make decisions concerning the state. The two most prevalent
types of representative democracy are democratic republics and parliamentary democracies. In a
democratic republic, such as the United States or Canada, the people elect both their representatives in
government and their head of state. In a parliamentary democracy, such as the United Kingdom or
Australia, the people elect their representatives and their representatives elect their head of state.
Authoritarianism is a form of government in which the leader or leaders have exclusive power
concerning matters of the state. Although these

Informal Sector Essay
Since the informal sector is believed to make a great contribution to an economy, there are a number
of research papers which have been done in this sector. Some research has been done in relation to
small business participation in the informal sector. A prime example is from Trinidad and Tobago,
considered as an emerging economy, whereby people have the perception of avoiding tax while
performing their business and is the reason why people engage in the informal sector. The focus is on
socioeconomic, demographic, and attitudinal characteristics that influence people to run their small
business (Sookran Watson, 2008).
Moreover, Sookram Watson (2008) in their research on Small business participation in the informal
sector of an emerging economy explain that the word informal sector refers to the production of goods
and services for market orientation, which is not captured in the estimation of a country s GDP
whether these activities are legal or illegal. The contribution of the informal sector to the national
economy in the third world economies ranges from 20 to 70 %. It has been commonly thought that the
informal sector is the sector linked with the poor and marginalized. However, in reality this sector
attracts many people regardless of their social status and educational background. Thus, clearly policy
makers need to look at this sector as it offers great economic advantages to both poor people and the
country.
The purpose of the study conducted by Sookram

Are Viruses Living Organelles
Viruses are small infectious agents that replicate inside the living cells of an organism. Several
thousand viruses have been described in detail since they were first discovered in the late 1800s,
though millions of different types are predicted to exist. There is debate in the scientific community
about whether viruses are living organisms or simply organic structures that interact with them, as
they resemble organisms in many ways but do not have their own metabolism and cannot naturally
reproduce outside a host cell. Virus particles, or virions, consist of two main parts: genetic material in
the form of DNA or RNA, which may be single or double stranded, and a protein coat, or capsid, that
encapsulates and protects those genes. To reproduce, a virion will attach to a specific host cell and
inject its genetic material into the cytoplasm in a process known as transduction. ... Show more

In this regard, viruses increase genetic diversity among organisms via horizontal gene transfer, and
therefore contribute to evolution1. The most common methods for viral multiplication are known as
lytic and lysogenic cycles; in the lytic cycle, the host cell immediately begins replicating the viral
nucleic acid, and the copied genetic materials are translated inside the cell. The capsids are assembled,
genetic material is repackaged inside the virus, and eventually the host cell bursts as the viral load
inside becomes overwhelming. In the lysogenic cycle, the viral nucleic acid is incorporated into the
host cell genome and remains inactive inside for an extended period. At some point, the viral genome
activates, and viral multiplication occurs as in the lytic

The class discussion on Phineas Gage really stood out to me. I was astounded by the fact that a man

physical effects, I was even more intrigued about the mental and psychological effects of the accident.
I really wanted to look more in depth about the case study of Phineas Gage. While working on a
railroad line, Phineas Gage s skull was pierced by a metal rod from an explosion. However, instead of
being killed, Phineas was immediately able to sit up and speak, and after the wound healed he returned

The presenter also showed pictures that he took himself when he toured Pompeii. The fact that the
pictures were taken himself really made the presentation more credible and relatable. Presenter Pless
told stories about his experience of touring Pompeii. Through this presentation, I felt like I was on the

through the entire presentation. By using humor presenter Pless was able to keep the presentation
serious, but also fun. My favorite statement was when he said, Papa Murry s love at 425. Lastly by
having a outline handed out before hand it made the presentation easy to follow and kept the presenter

The Streets Of The Crowd
Through various types of social gatherings, such as concerts and riots, our society is dominated by a
vast variation of crowds, where some of these crowds bring out Georges Bataille s definition of
animality in the humanity that is engaged in the crowds. There are a multitude of types of crowds,
from open crowds to invisible crowds to double crowds. As stated by Elias Canetti, the dominating
two kinds of crowds in our world are the open and the closed crowd. An open crowd is defined by its
ability to continuously grow. Once the growth of the crowd comes to a stop, the open crowd
disintegrates. A closed crowd is defined by having a boundary, it accepts its limitations, and puts an
emphasis on permanence. Although the closed crowd is an extremely common and prevalent form of
crowd, the truest and purest form is the open crowd. All crowds carry a dichotomy of fascination and
attraction versus fear and repulsion, not unlike Rudolf Otto s mysterium tremendum. The different
crowds are characterized by their ways of discharge, destructiveness, and eruption (Canetti, 17 22). In
a crowd, those who are engaged free themselves from societal constructions of difference such as
class, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality, among other constructs. Dropping all notions of self, the
engaged allow themselves to become one with fellow participants. The crowd is also characterized by
its ability to find pleasure in destructiveness. The crowd is attracted to the noise and images of

Leonardo Da Vinci And Machiavelli s Role In Secular Italy
In my final short summary, I will be explaining both Leonardo da Vinci and Machiavelli s roles in
secular Italy. To represent this, I will examine how their legacies were effected and finally, I will then
conclude with my final opinions on these two philosophers and the journey s they both endeavored.
Although Leonardo and Machiavelli both appeared to leave Florence in unfavorable ways, one could
argue that both men ultimately learned from failure. The men spent their time in a non religious
Florence in an alliance, however, they both used this in attempts to thrive on their own. Leonardo
spent his time working on his art; but, more importantly he was attempting to build a canal that would
lead from the Arno river to the sea. Machiavelli worked by using his political power to supervise the
Florence government during this project, however, it eventually failed. After the Arno diversion was
abandoned, Leonardo and Niccolò did what truly great artists, scientists, and leaders often do in ...

I justify this by saying if it were not for yet another military failure, Machiavelli may never have been
imprisoned which lead him to write The Prince (Masters). As for Leonardo, his failures also led him to
even greater success, Leonardo started life as a lowly apprentice and ended as a valued advisor to a
powerful foreign king (Masters pg. 193). In this short summary I discussed the roles that both
Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolò Machiavelli were a part of in secular Italy, along with a brief outlook
on what life was like after they separated. If were to get the chance to write another paper on this
topic, I feel that it would be beneficial to talk more in detail about both the Arno river failure and also
discuss the other failures they faced before diverging their

Male Friendship in William Shakespeare´s The Merchant of...
In 16th century England, platonic, passionate friendships between men were a commonality, and this
was the case for Bassanio and Antonio. The Merchant of Venice shows how Antonio s help in
Bassanio s pursuit for Portia s love is actually his way of showing love. Antonio gives Bassanio
financial support even though Bassanio already owes him money. He especially risks himself by
taking out a bid from Shylock because all of his assets are at sea. These actions can be seen as loyal
friendship, but Antonio exceeds friendship by taking a risky loan and putting his life in the hands of a
cruel Jew to assure the contentment of his dear friend. Antonio s actions overstep heterosexual
boundaries by plunging into a risky business ordeal so his friend can charm Portia in style.
The first scene where we are introduced to Antonio, he is speaking to his friends Salarino and
Gratiano. He is a melancholy, distressed character who proclaims I hold the world but as the world,
Gratiano, a stage where every man must play a part, and mine a sad one. (Act 1, Scene 1, Page 4).
This line becomes more important when Bassanio enters, and Gratiano and Salarino rush themselves
away, knowing that Antonio would prefer to be with Bassanio alone. After they leave, Antonio presses
Bassanio about the girl he is interested in. While this is a common thing to ask among friends, deeper
inquiry suggests that Antonio has deeper feelings for Bassanio. Thus the line about the part Antonio
plays in the world

Renewable Energy Through Feed On Tariffs And Taxes
Introduction
In recent years, more has been debated on whether or not nonrenewable energy such as fossil fuel has
caused global warming. Sakamoto and Managi (2016) believe fossil fuel is the likely reason that
temperatures have been rising from greenhouse gases, increasing the CO2 emissions (p. 1). With
depleting resources, it may be a good idea to look more seriously at renewable energy (Sakamoto
Managi, 2016, p. 16). More governments have been trying to create policies to encourage usage of
renewable energy. However, it has been debated what is the best way to enforce renewable energy. In
this paper, I will discuss two ways countries have been encouraging renewable energy through feed in
tariffs and taxes.

14). An increase in marginal cost of nonrenewable resources will drive more consumers to renewable
resources.
On the other hand, a tax on nonrenewable energy does not have the same effect. Sakamoto and
Managi (2016) discovered:
The introduction of the tax on the nonrenewable energy sector leads to the reduction of nonrenewable
energy use and an acceleration of renewable energy use, but the acceleration is not enough to keep the
pre tax level of production... because the marginal cost of renewable energy is high as renewable
energy use increases (p. 15).
A tax on nonrenewable energy leads to an increase in marginal cost of renewable energy. Less
consumers were interested in buying when prices on renewable energy rose.
Another way governments have been trying to implement renewable energy is through feed in tariffs.
Feed in tariffs usually consist of some type of purchase obligation and also a tariff payment on
renewable energy that is fixed for every unit of electricity (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The grid operator
involved in the purchase obligation must buy the renewable electricity no matter what (Jacobs, 2012,
p. 43). The producer has the right to a certain amount of money for every unit of electricity that they
produce (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43).
Jacobs (2012) conducted studies in Europe in the countries of Germany, Spain, and France that use

to as a result of our shared humanity. I understand that she is unable to speak and is unlikely to have
the mental capacity to make that decision but does that automatically transfer that decision to her
parents? The United Nations Convention on the Rights for a Child (1989) plays an important part of
the Rights model for this text as I feel it both supports and opposes the parent s actions. Article 23
concentrates on children s disability by stating that Children who have any kind of disability have the
right to special care and support, as well as all the rights in the Convention, so that they can live full
and independent lives. This could support Ashley s parent s motives. However, Article 3 states The
best interests of children must be the primary concern in making decisions that may affect them. All
adults should do what is best for children. When adults make decisions, they should think about how
their decisions will affect children. In this case are the parents doing what s best for Ashley or
themselves? This is a good example where the Rights model can get itself in a twist! The

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Exposes Racial...
The treatment of African Americans in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks demonstrates the lack of
ethics in the United States health care system during the 1950s and 1960s. Under the impression that
medical doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital were solely injecting radium treatment for cervical cancer,
Henrietta Lacks laid on the surgical bed. During this procedure Dr. Lawrence Wharton Jr. shaved two
pieces of tissue from her vagina, one from a healthy cervical tissue and one from the cancerous tumor,
without Henrietta s prior knowledge. After recovering from her surgery Henrietta exited the door
marked, Blacks Only, the door that signified the separation between White and African American
patients. Had Henrietta been White, would the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This marked the commencement of the ethical partition between both races within the novel.
The unethical practices against the African Americans in the U.S. Public Health Service became even
more evident when the dreaded C word, also known as cancer, struck the body of Henrietta Lacks.
After complaining of an invasive pain in her lower abdomen and excessive blood secretion, Henrietta
went to the only hospital that treated African Americans with illnesses of that magnitude. At Johns
Hopkins Hospital, Howard Jones cut a small sample of Henrietta s cervix and sent it to the pathology
lab. After a few weeks of testing, Henrietta received a call requesting that she return to Hopkins to
begin her cancer radiation treatment. During Henrietta s first radiation treatment, the surgeon on duty
Dr. Lawrence Wharton Jr., picked up a sharp knife and began shaving pieces of tissue from her cervix
without receiving patient s consent.
As preposterous as it sounds some medical professions believed that Henrietta gave consent when she
printed her name on the OPERATION PERMIT form which briefly stated:
I hereby give consent to the staff of The Johns Hopkins Hospital to perform any operative procedures.
The evocative argument is still unethical and invalid. According to the American Medical Association,
physicians and doctors had to sign some version

Anti Semitism And The Nazi Party
Section A: Plan of Investigation
The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the extent to which anti Semitism throughout Germany
contributed to Hitler s rise to power. The main body of the investigation will focus on the tactics
which were used within the Nazi party to gain support towards Hitler s political beliefs. The formation
of the Nazi party and the use of anti Semitic propaganda will also be analyzed. Sources will be
assessed in order to formulate reasoning behind the effectiveness of Hitler s influence over the Nazi
party. Journal articles and speeches from this time period will be examined according to their origin,
value, purpose and limitations. These documents as well as a summary of evidence will be used to
properly evaluate the investigation.
Section B: Summary of Evidence
Hitler s Anti Semitic background
In 1908 Hitler made Vienna, a place with widespread Anti Semitism, his home. According to Hitler,
his time spent in Vienna shaped his beliefs, particularly his perception of them.(Smelser)
While in Vienna prior to World War I (1914 1918), Hitler developed anti Semitic views, most likely
created by his resentment of wealthy Jewish citizens during his years of extreme poverty and
impoverishment.(Altman 28)
Hitler s beliefs
Within Hitler s beliefs, the Jews were a cause of danger to Germany and to humanity as a whole.
(Smelser)
Hitler believed the Aryan race was inferior to others. The Aryan race was the strongest and therefore

Definition Of Craniovertebral Junction
The craniovertebral junction(CVJ) is a collective term that is referring to the occiput, first cervical
vertebra (atlas), second cervical vertebra (axis) and the supporting ligaments. It is a transition zone
between a mobile cranium and relatively rigid spinal column. It encloses the soft tissue structures of
the cervico medullary junction which includes the medulla oblongata, spinal cord, and lower cranial
nerves. This region is the most mobile part of the cervical spine and functions as a funnel that provides
the twin features of stability and motionThe stability and flexibility to this region is provided by the
bony as well as and ligamentous nature of atlantooccipital and atlantoaxial joints. Craniovertebral

Linear Regressions
This project set out to determine the accuracies of predicting movie box office revenue and classifying
the success. Using various techniques and data from reputable movie sites, we were able to generate
numerous prediction and classification models with their own accuracies attached. We were guided by
what previous literature have covered on the two topics we wanted to investigate. The literature
review gave us a clear pathway to follow in terms of where to collect data, what type of data to use,
what techniques and methods work best and what type of results to expect. There were a few movie
sites that were used that were used regularly by researchers. The type of data that the researchers

We decided to keep movies in the dataset that were English and from the USA. We also wanted to
only include movies that were released in USA and abroad. The data we did not need was filtered out
and the data features that were not pre release were removed. When it came to predicting the
worldwide box office revenue, we wanted to use linear regression and SVM. This was because many
researchers had used these techniques. When using linear regression we realised that our data needed
transforming as the linear regression assumptions were violated. The Box Cox transform we used
transformed our dependent variables and worked well. The assumptions of the linear regression were
met. The forward selection procedure used helped identify which variables were good predictors in the
models. Linear regression has certain assumptions, so in order to not violate those assumptions, it is
crucial to pick the best variables for the model. The best model we found using this procedure met all
the assumptions and gave good prediction accuracies. The results obtained from the linear regression
and SVM models indicated that the accuracies all of the models were very high. Linear regression and
SVM achieved similar results with SVM just slightly achieving better accuracy rates As we were
predicting box office revenue using pre release data only, the accuracies of 80% plus were a good
surprise. Transforming the worldwide box office revenue

learned, memorable experiences, and personal growth. Some concepts i learned were . In Mrs.sanchez
5th period class we learned about sexual reproduction with grasshoppers. We learned about the genes
and what sexual reproduction means. Sexual reproduction means a genetic material from 2 parents
combined to make a new organism. And also meiosis sperm an egg during chromosomes the pairs
separate. A fun memory I had these days we re working with my group and they would think it was
weird everytime they say sexual reproduction.we also learned that chromosomes theory of inheritance
genes are carried from parents to their offspring on chromosomes. A question me and my group had
was why do they travel in pairs? we never answered it. We also learned about mendel s work. Mendel
s work showed that the dominant alleles don t come up as present when another is present. Each
human has 23 chromosomes. And grasshoppers have 24 chromosomes which is just 12 pair. Some
more questions my group had was do other insects have more chromosomes? And can more than half
of a parent s chromosomes go to its offspring? And before we started we had to write down a question
and it was what is mendel s work? sutton hypothesize that chromosomes were the key to

Introduction
Today if you were to say doctor to someone, the first thing that pops into their heads is life savers.
Although that is true some can be killing innocent or guilty people by their malpractice When I
became able to read I started to notice how sloppy my doctor s handwriting was. I thought to myself
how can anyone read that. I became scared that I would get the wrong medication. In this study of
misdiagnosis conducted by An Institute of Medical Report Committee on Quality of Health Care in
America Institute of Medicine National Academy Press Washington, D.C. (2014) said that 42% that
believed that an error occurred only 40% of them had been misdiagnosed this is a serious problem that
could allow someone to die .By examining evidence and background information about the reasons
doctors commit malpractice the causes and effects from obamacare and and discussing current actions
being taken to address the problem, this essay will explore the problem with why doctors commit
malpractice and the causes and effects of obamacare in order to enact change, I will send a survey to

Margaret Cavendish Called The Blazing World Summary
The Superiority Complex of Mankind Margaret Cavendish s The Description of a New World, Called
The Blazing World, is a 17th century work of prose fiction that represents a satirical, utopian kingdom
within a different world ( Margaret Cavendish, The Duchess of Newcastle. ). A young woman from
Earth enters this new world, meeting a society composed of various species of talking animals; these
hybrid animals from The Blazing World illustrate the readers understanding of the relationship
between humans and nature. In representing hybrid creatures as figures of knowledge and peaceful
coexistence, Cavendish addresses the damaging history of the superiority complex in fictional
literature. As a result, these cross species are seen as equal to ... Show more content on

In this way, Cavendish is able to create an equality between animals and the human species; by pulling
them together in her fictional story through a common interest of science and arts it minimizes the
growing gap between their value in the real society. This conception of animals as equally exceptional
to humans in some respects is explored in The Well ordered Universe: The Philosophy of Margaret
Cavendish, she comments that animals may display greater knowledge in certain areas compared to
humans, despite the assumption by most natural philosophers that cognitively speaking, man doth
excel all other animals (Hayden, 108). In Cavendish s Philosophy, she writes, For what man knows,
whether fish do not know more of the nature of water, and ebbing and flowing, and the saltness of the
sea? Or whether birds do not know more of the nature and degrees of air, or the cause of tempests? Or
whether worms do not know more of the nature of earth, and how plants are produced? Or bees of the

Dynamic Characterism In The Keeper Of The Virgins
In The Keeper of the Virgins, Hanan Al Shaykh creates a dynamic character of the dwarf. While in the
beginning of the story, the dwarf was an outcast from society and his family when he enters the
convent he gains acceptance. His family was embarrassed by him, however, after he enters the
convent, they begin to worry about him and his well being. Inside the convent walls, he finds a divine
and an overwhelming acceptance, missing in the outside world and his family. In the convent he
receives unconditional love from the nuns, unlike the hate and darkness outside.
In The House Behind, Lydia Davis establishes a divide between social classes through the creation of
the front house and the back house. Their separation is meaningful in that it represents the divide in
society between the rich and the poor. It represents the difference in power. The setting does not
change in the story, however the people s attitudes do. There s an increase in uneasiness from the
house in front after the murder. Those in the house behind became ashamed by the actions of their
neighbor. Through the association between front and superior there is an indirect connection
established. The courtyard connects the two houses as a common ground for interaction, however, it
seems to instead serve as a separator between the two.
In Wilderness Tips, Margaret Atwood writes with a third person omniscient point of view. This allows
the reader to understand all character s actions and emotions without a bias towards any one main
character. Throughout the short story the point of view remains constant. By choosing this point of
view, Atwood establishes each character (George, Portia, Prue, Pamela, and Roland), allowing the
reader to understand the story through an unbiased perspective. The reader is able to establish their
own opinion due to the lack of influence from the narrator on character bias. By focusing the narration
on Portia s weakness towards George s consistent infidelity, she s able to establish the characterization
until her breaking point, suicide. Similarly, in the narration about George the reader gains a deeper
understanding into his persona.

The Importance Of The Zone Of Proximal Development
One of the most prevailing aspects of Vygotsky s sociocultural theory is what he named the zone of
proximal development. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of
development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent partner,
either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity itself.
Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what he or she
can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus created in the
course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). SEE MIND IN SOCIETY IN
LIBRARY The zone of proximal development, known as the ZPD, is the place in which a child
benefits the most from exposure to an activity or task. This is because ...children s cognitive abilities
increase through exposure of information that is new enough to be intriguing, but not too difficult for
the child to contend with (Feldman 228 229). Within this zone, children are able to perform some of,
but not all of, the task independently. With the help of someone with more capable, they are able to
complete the task. In this way, children are able to increase understanding and learn new tasks while
avoiding frustration and defeat, meanwhile building confidence.
Vygotsky argued that [i]n order for cognitive development to occur, then, new information must be

Chinese Art And Confucianism
For thousands of years, the use of art through paintings, drawings, pictures, photographs have been
used in religions for many purposes. Religious groups and sects have used art to protest, idealize, and
tell stories about their religion. They have used art to express their beliefs and thoughts to the world.
According to the dictionary, art is the expression or application of human creative skill and
imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be
appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. This emotional power inserted on each
piece of art was meant to inspire and teach each believer about their religion. We can see this in
different religions such as the Chinese religion, Confucianism. Confucianism believes in the adoration
of the ancestors and diverse powers being the greatest of all the heavens, the lord from above. People
in Confucianism must understand that the ancestors and the cosmos, determine their life and existence
and therefore they must maintain a good harmony. This is achieved through study and meditation to
self perfect. Therefore, like other religions, Confucianism through art represents their beliefs. Each
work of art seeks that when observed can convey the idea and concept of the artist who will always
seek inspiration from his beliefs.
Confucianism has been a predominant school of thought in China for ages and is a cornerstone of
Chinese culture. Its influence on human relationships and ethical

Early Life As A Social Determinant Of Health
Early life as a social determinant of health has the potential to impact both a person s health and
wellbeing. Social and economic disadvantage, belonging to a marginalised population, access to
adequate nutrition, educational attainment and exposure to adverse experiences all contribute to an
individual s functional health into midlife and old life age. Those children who suffer socioeconomic
disadvantages have earlier onset and faster progression of disease, resulting in higher morbidity and
earlier mortality (Agahi, Shaw, Fars, 2014).
The social model of health takes the approach that a broad array of characteristics influence the health
of people, not merely biological and genetic factors (Wilkinson, Marmot, 2003). Families, ... Show

Child health inequalities were first explored in the 19th century, with regards to the differences in
infant mortality rates within the social classes (Woolfenden et al., 2013). Early childhood development
as a social determinant is now described as the factors and environments that can influence
development and lifelong health and wellbeing (Maggi et al., 2010). These factors interact with one
another and include; social interactions, physical environment, living conditions, learning
environments and socio political context (Maggi et al., 2010).
The societal influences on early life are determined by a variety of factors, ranging from access to
survival necessities to income inequality (Maggi et al., 2010). Developing countries are more likely to
be impacted by war, slavery, discrimination, disease, and a lack of water and sanitation facilities
(Maggi et al., 2010). Developed countries face issues around childhood exposure to poverty and the
inability for some to access the services needed for ideal health and wellbeing (Maggi et al., 2010).
Although the issues faced between countries are immensely different, the concerns for one child are
no less important than the concerns for another (Maggi et al., 2010).
There are also vast differences between childhood growth and development within countries. This
disparity is caused by differences in socioeconomic status, population

Chemiluminescence Lab Report
Chemiluminescence is a reaction well known to those who enjoy crime scene shows. Luminol is first
synthesized in the experiment. Then, the crude luminol produced is oxidized to release photons giving
off a light blue glow in a dark room. In a crime scene show, the blood acts as a catalyst aiding in the
oxidation of luminol and hydrogen peroxide resulting in the blue glow 1.
Introduction:
As seen on any crime scene investigation show, such as CSI Miami, traces of cleaned up blood left
behind can been seen with the spray of a chemical called luminol. When applied on an area, it lights
up where blood has been due to a chemical reaction. Chemiluminescence it is also found in the insect

If the amounts of luminol produced would be much less if the amounts of NaOH and acetic acid were
changed. This is due to less acetic acid being able to form the precipitate or the crude luminol.
3. In the luminol synthesis reaction, why was cold water used for rinsing the filtration step? How
would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead?
Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot water
in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would be less
efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield.
4. When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed
with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane?
Water is used because it is not an organic solvent. Ethyl acetate and dichloromethane are both organic
solvents and would dissolve the crude luminol product. This like adding hot water would reduce the
yield of the product and reduce efficiency.
5. What is the difference between chemiluminescence and fluorescence? Where does the energy for
light emissions come from in each

1/20,000 births. The disorder is categorized as a neurodevelopment disorder as it affects primarily the
nervous system. Patients have been described as having an angel like demeanor as they are frequently
smiling and/or laughing; the patients have a very happy and excitable personality. Exterior qualities
recognized are the following: having light skin, reduced retinal pigment, low hair bulb tyrosinase

Aircraft Wing Essay Design and Analysis of aircraft Wing Suraj Kumar K L University, Green Fields, Vaddeswaram, Guntur District, A.P, INDIA, 522502 Department of Mechanical Engineering, (id no. 13007522) Abstract: This deals with bending Finite Element Analysis of the aircraft wing using commercial software ANSYS. An aircraft wing is made of composite with fibre angles in each ply aligned in different direction. Various air foil thickness and ply angles were considered to study the effect of bending torsion decoupling. The laminate characteristics are usually calculated using the number of layer, stacking sequence, geometric and mechanical properties. A finite number of layers can be combined to form so many laminates. The only restriction that is imposed on the laminate as an element of composite structure concerns its total thickness which is assumed to be much smaller than the other dimensions of the structure. Aircraft wing model as per the plan should be made in FEA and the model is subjected to various loading. The loading given by the self weight or due to acceleration due to gravity was discussed and the deflection over here should be calculated. The wing model is severely affected by the loads on along wing direction, across wing direction, vertical direction.NACA 2412 airfoil was taken for designing wing. • 5. Corporate Roles, Personal Virtues, And The Good Life In the Corporate Roles, Personal Virtues: An Aristotelean Approach to Business Ethics, Robert Solomon argues that toughness is a virtue, but callousness and indifference is not. Solomon views the Aristotle approach the proper way, because it considers both personal and business values. However, Albert Carr argues that business and personal ethics don t mix; and game strategy in business leads to success. In this paper, I will argue that Carr prevails Solomon s business ethics and his claim. Aristotle is a philosopher that is known for his interest in virtue ethics, but is more recognized for his business ethics (Solomon 67). Before explaining the latter, Aristotle explains the role of the virtues in ethics and the good life through: community, excellence, role identity, integrity, judgement (phronesis), holism. The Aristotelean approach to community comes first, because we as an individual find our identity through institutions. Darwinism s survival of the fittest and neo Hobbesian s every man for themselves contradicts the Aristotelian view. Rising inequality in this time may not be a huge concern as it was during the Victorian Era according to the author of the book, Inequality. What Everyone Needs To Know by James K. Galbraith. However, in order to discuss such concerns where it nearly affects millions of individuals, businesses, population, and nations, one must gain a mind of a person who understands the meaning of being a political and knows how to discuss such events in an appropriate manner. The focus is on socioeconomic, demographic, and attitudinal characteristics that influence people to run their small business (Sookran Watson, 2008). Moreover, Sookram Watson (2008) in their research on Small business participation in the informal sector of an emerging economy explain that the word informal sector refers to the production of goods and services for market orientation, which is not captured in the estimation of a country s GDP whether these activities are legal or illegal. Several thousand viruses have been described in detail since they were first discovered in the late 1800s, though millions of different types are predicted to exist. There is debate in the scientific community about whether viruses are living organisms or simply organic structures that interact with them, as they resemble organisms in many ways but do not have their own metabolism and cannot naturally reproduce outside a host cell. Virus particles, or virions, consist of two main parts: genetic material in the form of DNA or RNA, which may be single or double stranded, and a protein coat, or capsid, that encapsulates and protects those genes. The capsids are assembled, genetic material is repackaged inside the virus, and eventually the host cell bursts as the viral load inside becomes overwhelming. The Streets Of The Crowd Through various types of social gatherings, such as concerts and riots, our society is dominated by a vast variation of crowds, where some of these crowds bring out Georges Bataille s definition of animality in the humanity that is engaged in the crowds. There are a multitude of types of crowds, from open crowds to invisible crowds to double crowds. As stated by Elias Canetti, the dominating two kinds of crowds in our world are the open and the closed crowd. An open crowd is defined by its ability to continuously grow. Once the growth of the crowd comes to a stop, the open crowd disintegrates. A closed crowd is defined by having a boundary, it accepts its limitations, and puts an emphasis on permanence. Although the closed crowd is an extremely common and prevalent form of crowd, the truest and purest form is the open crowd. All crowds carry a dichotomy of fascination and attraction versus fear and repulsion, not unlike Rudolf Otto s mysterium tremendum. The different crowds are characterized by their ways of discharge, destructiveness, and eruption (Canetti, 17 22). In a crowd, those who are engaged free themselves from societal constructions of difference such as class, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality, among other constructs. Dropping all notions of self, the engaged allow themselves to become one with fellow participants. The crowd is also characterized by its ability to find pleasure in destructiveness. Although Leonardo and Machiavelli both appeared to leave Florence in unfavorable ways, one could argue that both men ultimately learned from failure. The men spent their time in a non religious Florence in an alliance, however, they both used this in attempts to thrive on their own. Leonardo spent his time working on his art; but, more importantly he was attempting to build a canal that would lead from the Arno river to the sea. In 16th century England, platonic, passionate friendships between men were a commonality, and this was the case for Bassanio and Antonio. The Merchant of Venice shows how Antonio s help in Bassanio s pursuit for Portia s love is actually his way of showing love. Antonio gives Bassanio financial support even though Bassanio already owes him money. He especially risks himself by taking out a bid from Shylock because all of his assets are at sea. These actions can be seen as loyal friendship, but Antonio exceeds friendship by taking a risky loan and putting his life in the hands of a cruel Jew to assure the contentment of his dear friend. Antonio s actions overstep heterosexual boundaries by plunging into a risky business ordeal so his friend can charm Portia in style. The first scene where we are introduced to Antonio, he is speaking to his friends Salarino and Gratiano. He is a melancholy, distressed character who proclaims I hold the world but as the world, Gratiano, a stage where every man must play a part, and mine a sad one. (Act 1, Scene 1, Page 4). This line becomes more important when Bassanio enters, and Gratiano and Salarino rush themselves away, knowing that Antonio would prefer to be with Bassanio alone. After they leave, Antonio presses Bassanio about the girl he is interested in. With depleting resources, it may be a good idea to look more seriously at renewable energy (Sakamoto Managi, 2016, p. 16). An increase in marginal cost of nonrenewable resources will drive more consumers to renewable resources. On the other hand, a tax on nonrenewable energy does not have the same effect. Sakamoto and Managi (2016) discovered: The introduction of the tax on the nonrenewable energy sector leads to the reduction of nonrenewable energy use and an acceleration of renewable energy use, but the acceleration is not enough to keep the pre tax level of production... because the marginal cost of renewable energy is high as renewable energy use increases (p. 15). A tax on nonrenewable energy leads to an increase in marginal cost of renewable energy. Less consumers were interested in buying when prices on renewable energy rose. Another way governments have been trying to implement renewable energy is through feed in tariffs. Feed in tariffs usually consist of some type of purchase obligation and also a tariff payment on renewable energy that is fixed for every unit of electricity (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The grid operator involved in the purchase obligation must buy the renewable electricity no matter what (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). When using linear regression we realised that our data needed transforming as the linear regression assumptions were violated. The Box Cox transform we used transformed our dependent variables and worked well. The assumptions of the linear regression were met. The forward selection procedure used helped identify which variables were good predictors in the models. Linear regression has certain assumptions, so in order to not violate those assumptions, it is crucial to pick the best variables for the model. The best model we found using this procedure met all the assumptions and gave good prediction accuracies. The results obtained from the linear regression and SVM models indicated that the accuracies all of the models were very high. Linear regression and SVM achieved similar results with SVM just slightly achieving better accuracy rates As we were predicting box office revenue using pre release data only, the accuracies of 80% plus were a good surprise. My 7th grade year at CMS was full of concepts learned, memorable experiences, and personal growth. Some concepts i learned were . In Mrs.sanchez 5th period class we learned about sexual reproduction with grasshoppers. We learned about the genes and what sexual reproduction means. Sexual reproduction means a genetic material from 2 parents combined to make a new organism. And also meiosis sperm an egg during chromosomes the pairs separate. A fun memory I had these days we re working with my group and they would think it was weird everytime they say sexual reproduction.we also learned that chromosomes theory of inheritance genes are carried from parents to their offspring on chromosomes. A question me and my group had was why do they travel in pairs? we never answered it. We also learned about mendel s work. Mendel s work showed that the dominant alleles don t come up as present when another is present. Each human has 23 chromosomes. And grasshoppers have 24 chromosomes which is just 12 pair. Some more questions my group had was do other insects have more chromosomes? And can more than half of a parent s chromosomes go to its offspring? And before we started we had to write down a question and it was what is mendel s work? sutton hypothesize that chromosomes were the key to understanding how offspring have traits similar to ... Margaret Cavendish Called The Blazing World Summary The Superiority Complex of Mankind Margaret Cavendish s The Description of a New World, Called The Blazing World, is a 17th century work of prose fiction that represents a satirical, utopian kingdom within a different world ( Margaret Cavendish, The Duchess of Newcastle. ). A young woman from Earth enters this new world, meeting a society composed of various species of talking animals; these hybrid animals from The Blazing World illustrate the readers understanding of the relationship between humans and nature. In representing hybrid creatures as figures of knowledge and peaceful coexistence, Cavendish addresses the damaging history of the superiority complex in fictional literature. In Cavendish s Philosophy, she writes, For what man knows, whether fish do not know more of the nature of water, and ebbing and flowing, and the saltness of the sea? • 30. Dynamic Characterism In The Keeper Of The Virgins In The Keeper of the Virgins, Hanan Al Shaykh creates a dynamic character of the dwarf. While in the beginning of the story, the dwarf was an outcast from society and his family when he enters the convent he gains acceptance. His family was embarrassed by him, however, after he enters the convent, they begin to worry about him and his well being. Inside the convent walls, he finds a divine and an overwhelming acceptance, missing in the outside world and his family. In the convent he receives unconditional love from the nuns, unlike the hate and darkness outside. In The House Behind, Lydia Davis establishes a divide between social classes through the creation of the front house and the back house. Their separation is meaningful in that it represents the divide in society between the rich and the poor. It represents the difference in power. The setting does not change in the story, however the people s attitudes do. There s an increase in uneasiness from the house in front after the murder. Those in the house behind became ashamed by the actions of their neighbor. Through the association between front and superior there is an indirect connection established. The courtyard connects the two houses as a common ground for interaction, however, it seems to instead serve as a separator between the two. In Wilderness Tips, Margaret Atwood writes with a third person omniscient point of view. This allows the reader to understand all character s actions and emotions without a bias towards any one main character. Throughout the short story the point of view remains constant. By choosing this point of view, Atwood establishes each character (George, Portia, Prue, Pamela, and Roland), allowing the reader to understand the story through an unbiased perspective. The reader is able to establish their own opinion due to the lack of influence from the narrator on character bias. By focusing the narration on Portia s weakness towards George s consistent infidelity, she s able to establish the characterization until her breaking point, suicide. Similarly, in the narration about George the reader gains a deeper understanding into his persona. In The First Day, Edward P. Jones follows a largely chronological method of ... • 35. The Importance Of The Zone Of Proximal Development One of the most prevailing aspects of Vygotsky s sociocultural theory is what he named the zone of proximal development. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent partner, either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity itself. Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what he or she can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus created in the course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). SEE MIND IN SOCIETY IN LIBRARY The zone of proximal development, known as the ZPD, is the place in which a child benefits the most from exposure to an activity or task. This is because ...children s cognitive abilities increase through exposure of information that is new enough to be intriguing, but not too difficult for the child to contend with (Feldman 228 229). Within this zone, children are able to perform some of, but not all of, the task independently. With the help of someone with more capable, they are able to complete the task. In this way, children are able to increase understanding and learn new tasks while avoiding frustration and defeat, meanwhile building confidence. • 36. Chinese Art And Confucianism For thousands of years, the use of art through paintings, drawings, pictures, photographs have been used in religions for many purposes. Religious groups and sects have used art to protest, idealize, and tell stories about their religion. They have used art to express their beliefs and thoughts to the world. According to the dictionary, art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. This emotional power inserted on each piece of art was meant to inspire and teach each believer about their religion. We can see this in different religions such as the Chinese religion, Confucianism. Confucianism believes in the adoration of the ancestors and diverse powers being the greatest of all the heavens, the lord from above. People in Confucianism must understand that the ancestors and the cosmos, determine their life and existence and therefore they must maintain a good harmony. This is achieved through study and meditation to self perfect. Therefore, like other religions, Confucianism through art represents their beliefs. Each work of art seeks that when observed can convey the idea and concept of the artist who will always seek inspiration from his beliefs. • 37. Early Life As A Social Determinant Of Health Early life as a social determinant of health has the potential to impact both a person s health and wellbeing. Social and economic disadvantage, belonging to a marginalised population, access to adequate nutrition, educational attainment and exposure to adverse experiences all contribute to an individual s functional health into midlife and old life age. Those children who suffer socioeconomic disadvantages have earlier onset and faster progression of disease, resulting in higher morbidity and earlier mortality (Agahi, Shaw, Fars, 2014). The social model of health takes the approach that a broad array of characteristics influence the health of people, not merely biological and genetic factors (Wilkinson, Marmot, 2003). Families, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Child health inequalities were first explored in the 19th century, with regards to the differences in infant mortality rates within the social classes (Woolfenden et al., 2013). Early childhood development as a social determinant is now described as the factors and environments that can influence development and lifelong health and wellbeing (Maggi et al., 2010). These factors interact with one another and include; social interactions, physical environment, living conditions, learning environments and socio political context (Maggi et al., 2010). The societal influences on early life are determined by a variety of factors, ranging from access to survival necessities to income inequality (Maggi et al., 2010). Developing countries are more likely to be impacted by war, slavery, discrimination, disease, and a lack of water and sanitation facilities (Maggi et al., 2010). Developed countries face issues around childhood exposure to poverty and the inability for some to access the services needed for ideal health and wellbeing (Maggi et al., 2010). Although the issues faced between countries are immensely different, the concerns for one child are no less important than the concerns for another (Maggi et al., 2010). Then, the crude luminol produced is oxidized to release photons giving off a light blue glow in a dark room. In a crime scene show, the blood acts as a catalyst aiding in the oxidation of luminol and hydrogen peroxide resulting in the blue glow 1. Introduction: As seen on any crime scene investigation show, such as CSI Miami, traces of cleaned up blood left behind can been seen with the spray of a chemical called luminol. This is due to less acetic acid being able to form the precipitate or the crude luminol. 3. In the luminol synthesis reaction, why was cold water used for rinsing the filtration step? How would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead? Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot water in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would be less efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield. 4. When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane? Water is used because it is not an organic solvent. Ethyl acetate and dichloromethane are both organic solvents and would dissolve the crude luminol product. This like adding hot water would reduce the yield of the product and reduce efficiency. 5. What is the difference between chemiluminescence and fluorescence?
