Mkd Case
Part A
1. Managers at MKD claim to exercise ethical behavior toward their employees. Describe three (3)
matters this behavior might cover. A manager at MKD Transportation s first ethical behavior matter to
be covered is in regard to the hiring and firing of an employee pertaining to job performance, while
maintaining the employee s privacy and respect. A second ethical behavior matter can be toward the
company itself, such as an internal conflict of interest as in stealing supplies or padding expense
accounts. A third ethical behavior matter is the relationship a company has with its employees,
customers, competitors, stockholders, suppliers, dealers and unions to find and achieve the right
balance.

Provide two (2) supporting facts. An example of a situation which a company might adopt a pricing
objective to set prices low for a new product would be in order to establish market share. Pricing
decisions are influenced by the need to compete in the marketplace, by social and ethical concerns as
well as corporate image. 1st supporting fact is to become the number one retailer with a solid
understanding of how to set prices with an ultimate goal of achieving maximum profit as well as
market share objectives. 2nd supporting fact would be how to price, promote and distribute products
to customers. This involves identifying different groups of people targeted by various companies
marketing programs, distribution methods and competitive potential. On the contrary, with regard to
profit maximization a company should adopt their objective by setting prices high with the intention
of selling a greater number of products to targeted individuals with the full intention of generating the
highest profits. Moreover, this kind of marketing and selling comes with a high risk of failure if the
product is priced to high, fewer products will be sold ultimately losing money resulting in unsold
excess

Treatment Plan
Introduction Fritscher (2011) postulates that a treatment plan may be formal or it may consist of
informal handwritten notes. This is largely dependent on the documentation required by the agency or
facility and all the other parties involved. However, regardless of its format, Fritscher (2011) states
that the treatment plan should always be subject to change as the case progresses. According to
Vrouvas (2013), a treatment plans can work as a mean of providing clients with guidelines that may
foster moral support, provide incentive and offer practical solutions for dealing with adversity. This
paper will describe a treatment plan and how it will be presented to the client. The paper will also
make specific reference to Brittany. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, since Brittany s treatment plan was developed in consultation with her, the level of
resistance should be minimal.
Therefore, through formal and informal discussion, the client will be notified of the finalized
treatment plan and specific focus will be placed on the objectives of the plan. It would also be
acceptable to present a written copy of the treatment plan to the client. In any case, a copy of the
treatment plan should always be available upon the client s request.
Conclusion
Conclusively, Brittany s treatment plan will form an agreement between her and the agency and may
be modified periodically to accommodate the needs of the client. This could prove to be quite
empowering for the client. Therefore, the problem or issues should be clearly identified and the
determined objectives should be both measurable and realistic. In addition, all four parts of the
treatment plan should be jointly related and should therefore reduce all confusions, misunderstandings
and misinterpretations. This is necessary, especial as it relates to the client. Undoubtedly, when the
client and the individuals responsible for facilitating the treatment plan work together cooperatively, it
increases the likelihood of a successful process.

Original Position Essay
From prep school to boot camp, from college boy to infantryman, twentieth century philosopher John
Rawls lived both a privileged and challenging life that eventually led him to questioning society s take
on justice. Educated at Princeton University for his undergraduate and graduate degrees, Rawls
became a philosophy professor teaching at Cornell University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
and Harvard University. His first book, A Theory of Justice, published in 1971 addressed the
relationship between the values of freedom and equality. Focusing on justice as fairness , Rawls states
that instead of competing against each other, freedom and equality can be balanced. Introducing the
concept of the Original Position Rawls argues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research done by Nicholas Carnes and John Holbein from Duke University found that the U.S.
Government is far more responsive to affluent Americans than to low income or working class
citizens.
When politicians make policy decisions on a wide range of issues, the outcomes tend to line up
closely with the preferences of rich constituents, and meet the preferences of the poor only by chance.
One in three Black males will go to prison in their lifetime . That horrendous fact, isn t because black
men are more dangerous or more risk averse, it is because of the society we live in. In his article
White Racism, Black Crime, and American Justice, criminologist Robert Staples argues that the legal
system was made by white men to protect white interests and keep blacks down. Staples goes further
to say that the system was characterized by second rate legal help for black defendants, biased jurors,
and judges who discriminate in sentencing . These examples prove that social status and unearned
privileges prevent us from protecting freedom and promoting equality. If we didn t have such a gap
between races, social classes, gender, and other factors of identity, people would be more open to
helping each. Thereby, a concept like the Original Position is the only way justice could

The Negative Effects Of Violence In Television And Mass...
With 59 dead and 527 injured, the Las Vegas shooting earlier this month was one of the deadliest mass
shootings in American history. With no immediately apparent motive, it begs the question in people as
to what might possess a person to go out and commit such a heinous crime. Indeed, the question has
dogged the American populace ever since the invention of the modern mass shooting, and even before,
attached to other senseless violent atrocities. Human brains are wired to look for causality in
meaningless events as a survival mechanism, so they have a tendency to find it in places where it
actually never existed in the first place. This is why violence in television and video games has come
under fire in recent years as their influence expands, despite evidence that such phony violence does
not beget real violence and may, in fact, be beneficial to a person s well being.
Firstly, it should be noted that the studies people often cite when attempting to prove media violence
has negative effects on behavior are flawed and inconsistent. In a review of publications on the subject
conducted by psychologist Jonathan L. Freedman, he found that of the 2,500 publications, there were
only 200 pieces of non duplicated research among them, stemming from places of varying scientific
legitimacy. The ways in which many of these studies are conducted can lead to skewed results in favor
of the hypothesis the researchers want to prove. When studying how violent media consumption
affects play

Illegal Immigrants Should Not Be Trafficked
However, this topic has been very controversial since some Thai authorities do not acknowledge these
Burmese individuals as victims , rather they acknowledge them as individuals who have been illegally
smuggled into Thailand (Gjerdingen 699). This is one of the strongest arguments that Thailand has
over not having a responsibility over those being trafficked into their country, because these people
actually choose to be trafficked rather than by coercion. Trafficked victims are given assistance not
because they choose to be trafficked, but because they were coerced into the system which violates
their rights as free people. There is some truth to this statement, because some individuals are lured
into being trafficked because of their current country s poor economic situation (Gjerdingen 718). If a
person moves to another country willingly and under illegal circumstances then they are no longer
considered as trafficked victims but as illegal immigrants. Therefore they cannot claim the status of
refugee and receive protection and rights. This is the only circumstance in which Thailand would not
have responsibility over the victims, but it is very difficult to distinguish one from the other, that
Thailand might not be able to use this argument as often as it would like. Despite this controversy, it
depicts that under the Morality of State Theory there is possibility that states might have an obligation
to protect victims of human trafficking, if they are given the status as

The Moral Responsibilities Within A Corporation
Corporations can be large or small but they all have some sort of ethical impact on their employees,
shareholders, customers, community, and surrounding environments. Richard DeGeorge writes, We
can speak of corporations having moral responsibilities to act in certain ways, and they are morally
responsible for the consequences of their actions on people. (p. 200). Large corporations are
comprised of the board of directors, management, and their workers. They also deal with suppliers,
customers, and have competitors. This essay will examine the moral responsibilities within a
corporation.
In large corporations the success or failure of the company is the responsibility of the board of
directors. According to Richard DeGeorge, The members of the board are responsible to the
shareholders for the selection of honest, effective managers, and especially for the selection for the
CEO and of the president of the corporation. (p. 202). The board members have a moral responsibility
to ensure the corporation is run honestly, in respect to its major policies, and to ensure the interests of
the shareholders are satisfied. The next responsibility within a corporation is the responsibility
management has to its board of directors. DeGeorge writes, It must inform the board of its actions, the
decisions it makes or the decisions to be made, the financial condition of the firm, its successes and
failures, and the like. (p. 202). The management of the corporation is morally obligated to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Trade Policy
Trade Policy Reforms: Trade Policy Reform liberalised the policy of import substitution mentioned

govt. of India had adopted a flexible exchange rate in order to deal with balance of payments through
exchange rate flexibility. On April 1, 2001 after 10 years the reforms started finally restrictions
imports of manufactured products and agricultural products were removed (Ahluwalia*). So,
abolishment of import license was the first element of the trade policy, the second element of this
strategy was to reduce tariff protection. Average rate of import duty which was 72.5% in 1991 92 had

The Arab-Israeli Conflict In The 1800s
The Arab Israeli conflict has been an ongoing issue from the 1800s. The conflict is based on the
struggle for land for both the Jews and the Arabs. When the 1947 partition plan was established by the
United Nations to split Palestine into two states, the Palestinian Arab people ended up with less land
than the Jewish (Jewish 56 percent and Arabs 43 percent of Palestine). This decision lead to war
between the two groups, meaning that there was no peace. The Arabs have been through a lot since the
Partition plan came into play. Not only do they have to share land with the Jews, but after the partition
plan, the Jews threated and killed some of the Arabs out of their own country, which resulted in them
becoming refugees. Both parties believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To make the Arabs happy and stop revolting against the British, they released the White Paper that

felt like this was betrayal to the Balfour Declaration. Both the Arabs and the Jews have felt betrayed
by the decisions made concerning them. For the Arabs, it was when the Balfour Declaration was made

Tallerman Co Pty Ltd v Nathan s Merchandise (Vic) Pty Ltd (1957) 98 CLR 93 PART I Summary of
Facts The dispute occurred in Victoria between a registered company, Tallerman Co Pty Ltd ( the
plaintiff ) and an incorporated company, Nathan s Merchandise Pty Ltd. ( the defendant), where both
parties operated their business. Two previous binding contracts (orders No. 58 and No. M57) were
made in communications on 14th May 1951 and 2nd August 1951 respectively, each for the sale by
the plaintiff to the defendant of 1,000,000 Hungarian .22 bullets. A consignment of 1,800,000 bullets
for the above orders was dispatched from Sydney to the defendant by rail on the 12th February 1952

Kitto J. verified that whether or not an existing contract is considered to have been rescinded, depends
on the intention of the parties involved. When examining the two critical correspondences of 21st
March 1952/ June 4th 1952, it was held that no intention by the defendant to discharge the previous
1951 contracts was found; the letters of offer and acceptance did not constitute a new and substituted
contract, and hence all conditions of the earlier contracts were to be binding. Assuming that the
contracts is of variation, the final substantial issue to be anlaysed was whether the Plaintiff s
acceptance of the original contracts was effective for the Defendant to be in breach of its terms.
Decision The appeal failed. As the plaintiff voluntarily confined itself to the two correspondences and
thus chose not to sue in Victoria, these two letters, under New South Wales law, did not amount to a
new contract, and the plaintiff was not protected by the offer and acceptance rule. The majority
embraced the view that the result was tried on a conventional basis and would have been judged
differently if the Plaintiff had not demanded the case to be determined in Sydney. PART III
Implications of decisions for the principles of offer and acceptance The general rule for an agreement
to be deemed valid is for

Coconut Oil For A Saponification Of Organic Chemistry In...
Abstract Despite most organic chemistry laboratories utilizing coconut oil for a saponification reaction
in laboratories, little has been done to utilize an alternative, more superior, oil for the reaction. An
extremely common allergy to have is to be allergic to nuts, and more specifically coconuts. When
laboratory experiments are conducted using coconut oil it endangers the lives of students and
laboratory personal. Coconut oil is also more expensive than other oils that could potentially be used
in the chemical process. After researching alternatives, it has been determined that vegetable oil would
be the most viable alternative to coconut oil due to its low cost as well as its fairly high reaction rate.
If college and high school laboratories would switch to a vegetable based oil instead of the more
standard coconut oil, then students and staff with allergies would be safer, the cost for the overall
laboratory experiment would be lower, as well as a consistently high reaction rate.
I. INTRODUCTION
The saponification reaction is one of the most basic foundational blocks for any chemistry major. The
reaction is typically around one hour and consists of the mixings of a fatty oil such as coconut oil,
vegetable oil, bio waste oils (used cooking oil), or other oils and a base such as sodium hydroxide. The
set up for the laboratory experiment is very important, you need to have a continuous stirring vassal
due to the long stir time that takes up the majority of the

My Summer Reading Influenced My Life
A typical summer day in the life of a six year old girl would consist of many common fun activities
such as coloring, watching the latest television shows on Disney Channel, and playing with Barbies.
However, when I was six years old my summer did not include any of those activities. Rather, my day
included summer reading lists, books, and even more books. It wasn t that I didn t enjoy any of the fun
activities most six year old girls did at my age, but I was much more fascinated with learning.
Through reading I enjoyed learning new words, phrases, and ideas. For example, I would loved
reading books by Dr. Seuss because of the words and phrases that rhymed together. I learned how a
word could rhyme together by having the same similar sound ... Show more content on

By the influence of my mother, I was introduced to an environment such as the public library, where
all I was surrounded by were books. A part of the reason why my mother encouraged me so much to

how to read and write in English because as immigrants they couldn t speak or write in the language.
She also states, They encouraged all of my siblings and me to learn English so we could continue
expanding our knowledge and education. I believe that because of my mother s encouragement to read
at a young age has allowed me to develop a strong connection with reading. For example, throughout
high school my goal was to receive good grades all four years so I could attend a four year university.
I spent the majority of my time doing homework, studying for exams, and preparing for my classes,
all of which require a form of reading. I enjoyed high school because of how fast and how in depth my

World War 1 Causes
In the late 1800s Otto von Bismarck, the Chancellor of Prussia predicted that some damned foolish
thing in the Balkans would start another war. That is exactly what happened when Archduke Franz
Ferdinand of Austria Hungary visited the Balkans and was shot; this sparked World War 1. The killing
of the Archduke, however, is not the only reason for World War 1. There were actually four underlying
causes that led to World War 1: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. All four of these
causes played their own part in leading to World War 1 and set off a chain of events that left Europe
shaken. Militarism was a underlying factor in leading to World War 1 because it created competition

Austria Hungary attacked Serbia due to the killing of their to be ruler. Then Russia starts to mobilize

Hungary due to their alliance. Germany wants to get through Belgium to go attack France but United

A Rhetorical Analysis on Nineteen Eighty-Four
Running Head: NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR Nineteen Eighty Four: A Critical Essay on Rhetoric
Bereket Kifle Composition 12 Honors Abstract George Orwell employs the usage of different rhetoric
throughout 1984. The rhetoric differs from describing the human body and its struggle to survive to
the different crimes and how the citizens felt about them. Also, within 1984 lies a warning from
Orwell: to eliminate the caustic consequences of a communist government. While Orwell served as
part of the Indian Imperial Police in Burma during the 1920s, he examined the faults of the communist
government. This phenomenon inspired Orwell to warn governments world wide to stay on the right
path to a safe and free rule. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Logos Presented in 1984 This dictator, Big Brother, has lost all respect for the humble earnings of a
single household family. The despicable actions prophesized by Orwell s warning message leads to an
important question: why do dictators steal from the poor and give to themselves? The state is
responsible for the organization and direction of the economic life of the country, in accordance with a
central social and economic development plan , (Gale Research group, 1998). Orwell knew this and
talked about it quite a bit in his novel, which established logos; he knew that installing fear within the
minds of the citizens he watched over would lead, whether they wanted it or not, to their safety.
Stability is safety. Less knowledge is safety. When the Party is questioned less, there are fewer
opportunities for the Party to be wrong. This is why the mere thought of hating Big Brother earns
anyone a front row seat to death. Big Brother s opinions are strict very strict. They are so strict that
there are oversized cameras called telescreens installed everywhere throughout Oceania. The
telescreens ensure that nothing is said about Oceania s perfect leader. This device is installed as a
reminder that Big Brother is always watching (Orwell, 1949). In

Arguments Against Full Inclusion
One of the biggest controversies in the United States education system is whether or not full inclusion
should be practiced in all schools. There are various reasons why people are for or against full
inclusion. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (2012) defines full inclusion as, a popular
policy/practice in which all students with disabilities, regardless of the nature or the severity of the
disability and need for related services, receive their total education within the regular education
classroom in their home school (p. 1). Full inclusion is a policy in which the ultimate goal is to
eliminate the need of pull out programs. Students with disabilities are expected to learn and make
friends in general education classrooms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When children are separated in schools, they begin to believe that one group is better than the other.
More often than not, elementary aged students refer to the special education students as the mental
ones. Although children do not intentionally negatively judge their peers, the segregation in school
systems makes them believe that is why they are separated. Batchelor and Taylor stated, Social
interaction within the peer culture is the basis from which friendships develop (Guralnick, 1981), and
is an important medium through which language, cognitive and social learning takes place (Guralnick
1981; McEvoy Odom, 1987) (p. 1). Students need social interaction with their peers in order to make
friends and develop social skills. When students with disabilities are all in one room together, they are
not being exposed to the people they will talk to in the real world, and therefore will not develop
proper social skills. When regular education students are integrated with students with disabilities,
they become much more accepting of people with differences. They make new friends and learn how
to accommodate for those who need extra help. Keeping children separated plays a role on the
reputation and mental health of those with disabilities. Abrams, Hogg, and Marques (2005) stated,
Whereas the experience of inclusion is frequently accompanied by positive emotions, the experience
of being excluded typically leads to negative emotions, including sadness, loneliness, jealousy, anger,
shame, and anxiety (Baumeister Tice, 1990; Leary,1990) (p. 64). Children are not born with hatred in
their hearts. They are accepting of everyone until they are taught to hate. Keeping students with
disabilities separated from students without them is teaching students that they are different and one
group is more capable than the other. Students with disabilities begin to

and enjoyable because all a person needs to do is gather few materials, prepare nails, and then paint
the nails. The first step to painting nails is to begin collecting the few materials needed. Start by
collecting cotton swabs and fingernail polish remover to clean the nails with. A non acetone based
fingernail polish remover will work best as an acetone based nail polish remover can be damaging to
nails. In addition to the cotton swabs and finger nail polish remover, other materials needed are nail
clippers, nail filer, and any colored nail polish of choice. The last item needed will be a flat surface,
preferable a table. After materials are collected it is time to begin the nail preparing process. To clean
the nails and remove any access oils or dirt use the cotton swabs and the nail polish remover. Gently

Through The Drinking Glass Analysis
This essay is an exploration of the topic of alcohol, especially as it relates to college campuses. In
order to gain insight into this topic I will be summarizing and examine three different essays. These
are Through the Drinking Glass by Andy Soon Leong Tan, The Neurocognitive Effects of Alcohol on
Adolescents and College Students by Donald Zeigler et. al, and Alcohol and Sexual Assault by
Antonia Abbey et. al. To examine the topic properly I should start with my own understanding of the
topic; I understand that drinking is a part of the college experience and that it is pervasive on campus.
When I came to college I already had the idea that college would have a mass drinking culture. My
time living in the dorms my freshman year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One fact that the authors point out is that youths are beginning to drink at lower ages and with more
frequency. The statistics range from 47 percent of high school students drinking heavily to 10 million,
28 percent of children that age, reporting alcohol use in the last thirty days. College students reflect
those same statistics. Concern is raised about how alcohol use patterns developed in the teen years is
not an issue that time resoles. The article then bridges into alcohol s effects on teens. The absorption
of alcohol under normal circumstances is first explained, with there being a set amount of alcohol
being removed each hour and if that amount is exceeded alcohol will continue building up in the
blood. Alcohol has numerous effects on the body it can impair the brain s ability to learn and
remember events, and reduce a person s motor controls, also alcohol releases the happiness hormones,
endorphin and dopamine, encouraging continued alcohol use. Using large amounts of alcohol can
poison the brain over time which is a large issue during this important time of brain development.
Unfortunately, due to their smaller bodies and non tolerance alcohol effects teenagers more than it
does adults, this leads increases the risk of Alcohol Poisoning and means teens become drunker faster.

Thyroidectomy Essay
Discussion:
Historically, the risks associated with major surgery to treat thyroid disease and the problems of
adequate hormonal replacement deterred surgeons from performing total thyroidectomies. Although
the procedure remains controversial it is increasingly being performed, and current indications include
cancer, toxic and nontoxic multinodular goitre and Graves disease. (1, 3, 12)
When the thyroid is resectable at presentation, total thyroidectomy is the current treatment of choice
for malignant disorders of the thyroid and valuable surgical option for the management of several
benign thyroid diseases, particularly among patients with an increased risk of recurrence. (1, 13 16)
Total thyroidectomy is recommended for patients with Graves disease because it eliminates the source
of the Graves disease autoantibodies; it eliminates the risk of disease recurrence; hypothyroidism is
predictable and controllable by immediate thyroxine replacement; it alleviates any associated
endocrine ophthalmopathy and the risk of malignancy among patients with Graves disease. (9, 17, 18)
Moreover, the risk of postoperative complications to the recurrent laryngeal nerve and parathyroid
glands are equivalent for total and subtotal thyroidectomy. (1, 12)

permanent cure with no risk of disease recurrence or repeat surgeries. Total thyroidectomy offers a
definite management of thyroid cancer. Long term euthyroidism after total thyroidectomy is achieved

Research Paper On Japanese Cuisine
Japanese cuisine is an appetizing art form brought to us by an ancient food culture. Japan s cuisine
reflects their traditionally shaped and evolutionary food culture. Normally, food in any other country
is just a sustenance for the body, but in Japan there is a deeper meaning. Japanese cuisine is very
authentic in terms of the type of food served and the manner of which it is served. The art has been
influenced by numerous countries only to perfect their cooking style and eating habits. Japan s art in
cooking manifested during the Yayoi period (200 B.C. 250 A.D.) when rice was added to the Japanese
diet. It is said that Chinese and Korean descent wanderers introduced this crop that will later be known
as their signature side around the world. Buddhism influenced Japan and there was a big shift in their
daily diet. Around the 7th century Buddhism became the official religion of the country and the eating
of meat was prohibited. This new religion declared that they should stop eating meat because it was
against a Buddhist precept of taking one s life. In this time period poor people had poor quality of rice
in small portions. These people were impacted the most by the meat and other dietary restrictions.

Stephen Kinzer s Role In Nicaragua

However, he is not the only one who seems to be unaware of the increasing tension that is mounting
between the Somoza regime and the Sandinistas; even important figures, such as Colonel Laszlo
Pataky, try to minimize the danger. Only Pedro Joaquin Chamorro, an anti Somoza newspaper owner,

A Report On The Car Travel
Introduction
Private vehicles are at the forefront of the growing epidemic regarding carbon pollution and climate
change. (Click) In Australia, cars accounted for 48% of transport emissions in 2013 (Trends in
transport greenhouse gas emissions, 2013). However to combat this issue, many cities around the
world have actively discouraged the use of private motor vehicles when travelling in and around the
city. They aim to reduce the prevalence of cars through the promotion of bicycles, walking and public
transport. In Europe, two cities have successfully implemented strategies and campaigns to increase
the amount of bicycle travel in and around the cities centre, these are Copenhagen and Houten. The
aim of this presentation is to investigate cities where car travel has been discouraged and hence
decreased and if and how these strategies can be adopted in Brisbane.
Brisbane
Brisbane is the third most populous city in Australia and capital of Queensland accommodating over
2.3 million people, thus it serves as an excellent basis to introduce a regime targeting at reduced
carbon emissions through a decrease in car use. In Brisbane it is evident that driving to work, school
and for leisure activities is the primary form of transport among adults. As evident by this map...

Queen Gertrude Analysis
In Shakespeare s Hamlet, Queen Gertrude s sporadic appearances and ambiguous intentions present
her as a mysterious character. She recovers quickly from the death of her late husband and marries her
brother in law. Because of this, she is often looked upon as a traitor and an unfaithful wife and mother.
Regardless of all the unpleasant accusations, Queen Gertrude is innocent and analytical. The remarks
from her late husband s ghost, her purposeful manner of being easily swayed by male characters, and
the boundless care she poses for country of Denmark, reveal her innocence. Her diplomatic and
sincere personality establish her as a silent ruler with unanticipated plans. Queen Gertrude s
superficial accusations do not speak for her innocent and analytical attitude.
The remarks from Old Hamlet s ghost present Queen Gertrude as innocent. During the Ghost s first
interaction with Hamlet, he informs his son that Claudius is the reason why Gertrude has turned so
unfaithful. The Ghost explains that Claudius is an incestuous...adulterate beast.. who uses ...witchcraft
of his wit, with traitorous gifts...to seduce!...The will of my most seeming virtuous queen. (1.5.43 37)
The Ghost wholeheartedly believes that because of the wrongdoings of Claudius combined with
Gertrude s malleable and innocent personality has lead her to her current state. The Ghost uses the
word adulterate to describe Claudius. Adulterate means to change to a worse state, and Claudius has
indeed degraded the Ghost s precious Gertrude. ( An analysis of Gertrude, Hamlet s Mother ) The
Ghost also pities Gertrude, appalled by her current state he exclaims O Hamlet, what a falling off was
there! / From me, whose love was of that dignity / That it went hand in hand even with the vow / I
made to her in marriage, and to decline / Upon a wretch whose natural gifts were poor / To those of
mine. (1.5.48 53) He distresses over his Queen and appalls over her downfall. The Ghost is also
protective of Gertrude and advises Hamlet But howsoever thou pursuest this act, / Taint not thy mind,
nor let thy soul contrive / Against thy mother aught. Leave her to heaven / And to those thorns that in
her bosom lodge / To prick and sting her. (1.5.86 89) The Ghost

Stranded Ship on East Hampton Beach
Thomas Moran is known for his oil paintings of the natural world. He captures nature at the moment
in which he sees it; this may, in turn, be serene but also show the dramatic and violent natures of his
momentary surroundings. In the compositions chosen he illustrates, as the title infers, a vessel caught
in the turbulent, tumultuous sea. As he captured this image, he kept in mind the destructive nature of
water also the constructive nature of water. Water has the ability to enable cultures to thrive and to
barely survive. Water was the main source transportation of goods, ideas and communication in
prehistoric times. In his composition, Moran displays the solid and life depending aspect of water as ...

Nevertheless, the flag stands erect and flapping in the wind. On the right side of the piece, we view the
exact magnitude of the storm through the white wash of the violent waves. Additionally, the sky to the
right of the ship s crow s nest is lighter and hints of a sun trying to break through the lurking darkness.
Despite the presence of other visual elements, what clearly connects is that the ocean, embellished and
predominantly highlighted in the work, was Moran s principal interest. However, the fact that
something so fleeting as surging waves dominates the composition even to the visual expense and
weight of an obviously colossal ship.
The visual expressive elements in Moran s composition are not equal in weight. Occupying nearly
seventy five percent of the page, and defining with its form the corresponding negative space of the
lighter sky, the waves of abundant frigid, murky water and cold, stylized white and aquamarine green
frothy accents at its edges, surges high into the sky in the distant background to fill almost all of the
horizontal extent of the paper. Through atmospheric distance techniques, Moran is able to effectively
illustrate the caliber of the waves on the ship s hull by setting the central mast at an eighty seven
degree angle in relation to the horizon line. In addition, he does not make the central mast clearly
visible, but rather distorts the image of the central pole

The British And French Colonization
There is an extensive history empirical power, repeatedly and successfully controlling another state or
group of people in order to exploit it economically. In Southeast Asia there were 5 colonial powers;
the United Kingdom, France, Dutch, America, and Japan, their primary motives for establishing
colonies in the region was to get control of trade routes, to get access to the natural resources and raw
materials, and the cheap labor, as well as to establish naval and military bases so that they could amass
influence in the region. Prior to World War II, a third of the world s area was colonized by European
colonial powers between the 15th and 19th centuries, and another third of the world s population were
in colonies, dependencies, protectorates, or dominions. In this essay, I will focus on the British and
French colonization in Southeast Asia. The British controlled Burma, most of the Malayan peninsula,
and Singapore, which was a strategic port and later became a naval base for the British. Meanwhile,
the French controlled the adjoining countries of Vietnamese, Cambodia, and Laos, collectively known
as French Indochina. This period of colonization in Southeast Asia brought many changes to the
regions society, politics, and the economy. For instance, both colonial powers introduced political
changes such as introducing a centralized form of government and changes to the justice systems in
many of the colonized countries. There were also social impacts resulting from the

Mozart s Effect On The Theory Of The Mozart Effect
1. What is the problems being studied
The problem being studied is whether listening to Mozart causes an increase in IQ scores. Several
researchers have made this claim, yet others have not been able to replicate the experiment.
2. What is the authors hypothesis
Steel, Ball Runk (1997) sought to test the theory of the Mozart effect based on the study completed by
Rauscher, Shaw Ky (1993). The authors hypothesis predicted that if the Mozart effect enhances spatial
reasoning tasks, then listening to Mozart s music should enhance the participant s ability to complete
the backwards digit span task.
3. How was the hypothesis developed
The authors reviewed several previously published studies on the subject of the Mozart Effect.
4. How does this study relate to the problem
Rauscher et al specified that an appropriate task would involve not just spatial recognition but should
incorporate spatial and temporal transformation, which was the basis for the dependent measure of
backwards digit span task. If listening to Mozart was proven to improve performance, then the
participant s performance on the backwards digit span task should improve after listening to Mozart.

This research followed the empirical research method of a true experiment since it contained the
following critical features: the independent variable is a manipulated variable under the researcher s

Women s Portrayal Of Women And Their Eras
Female roles have changed dramatically in present literature, writers such as Stephen Crane, Henry
James, Sherwood Anderson and Jean Toomer were influential in their portrayal of women and their
eras. To be feminine was to be the prefect lady and young girls are taught to submit to authority and
matrimony. As a result, women are regarded as incompatible to their male counterparts. Female roles
in literature were to follow the customs of marriage, for marriage meant social success. To be
unmarried is considered a failure as a woman, cursed to be a victim of society. Through out this essay

this misconceptions is rooted in the double standards of society: how men can ruin one women and
leave her for another with exemption. Rejected by her mother, brother, then by Pete, Crane writes
about Maggie s fate and how she went away (Crane 47). The last we see of Maggie, she is meeting
with her last client and, without knowing, led closer to her death. As a woman living in a bad
neighborhood, Maggie eventually working as a prostitute was not surprising given her circumstances.
Ironically, her brother Jimmie tells her go teh hell or go teh work! (Crane 13) with hell referring to to
prostitution. Becoming a prostitute later in the literature assumes that young, poor and unmarried
women have no means of escape from the hand they re dealt. Maggie seemed destined to be nothing
more than a prostitute and it left little affect that she dies that way. The crying from her family and
neighbors seemed more towards themselves then Maggie.

According to Todorov (in O Shaugnessy, 1999, p. 107) there is a basic standard to narratives. In the
start of the narrative, there is a stable situation (equilibrium) that is disrupted (disequilibrium) by a
quot;villainous force quot; (Todorov in Taylor, L., amp; Willis, A., 1999, p. 76). This stable situation is
restored in the end of the narrative. Or as O Sullivan et al. says quot;A meets B; something happens;
order returns quot; (O Sullivan et al., 1994, p. 195).
According to Turner quot;most films start by establishing the lines of conflict which will determine or
motivate the events and actions of the story quot;(1988, p.85). The opening sequence of Blade Runner
displays the main conflict. Holden, who is a human interrogator, is killed by the replicant Leon. These
are opposing forces that set the main conflict or the plot of the story.
However, this theory is not too easy to apply to Blade Runner. The movie does not start with what
Todorov calls equilibrium (O Shaughnessey, 1999, p 107). In BR the equilibrium is quite diffuse.
Even though the situation is going to get more unstable throughout the movie, there is a lack of
stability, or plenitude, here. Deckard is in the middle of the chaos existing in Los Angeles in 2019, in a
hostile atmosphere.
The disequilibrium starts when Roy and Leon (two replicants) enter the eye laboratory of the Tyrell
Corporation. It is the first time in the film we encounter the replicants cold and

excitement and nervousness i felt towards what lay ahead. I had just finished my last day of summer
school and as i was cleaning my room i just couldn t stop thinking of how this trip would become of
me. As the minutes passed by my agitation grew and grew my aunts and uncles starting arriving
telling us to have a safe trip. I remember how my aunt Claudia stated, Diana no vallas a andar de loca
y por favor ten cuidado. All i could say was, Jaja, tia no voy a andar de loca y gracias la voy a extrañar
mucho . As the time to arrive at the airport came to a near end i couldn t help but look over at my
father and just think How much i would miss him. Time seemed to be long lasting and it seemed like it
took years, heck even decades for us to start getting ready to board. I

A Rose For Emily Grierson Home Analysis
The Grierson household is an important key factor to A Rose For Emily. The theme of the whole story
is being unable to let go of the past. The house provides a place for Emily to theoretically be frozen in
time. The house symbolized the past, and it was sort of like a sanctuary for Emily. The townspeople
held the Grierson family to such a high standard, this had a huge affect on Emily. As time progressed,
society inevitably became more advanced. Emily obviously wanted to remain in the past for as long as
possible, so she isolated herself in her home away from the world. The Grierson house was a safe
haven for Emily. It was place for her to avoid the present. This something turned her house into a
prison. She had nowhere else to go but home,

A manager at MKD Transportation s first ethical behavior matter to be covered is in regard to the hiring and firing of an employee pertaining to job performance, while maintaining the employee s privacy and respect. A second ethical behavior matter can be toward the company itself, such as an internal conflict of interest as in stealing supplies or padding expense accounts. A third ethical behavior matter is the relationship a company has with its employees, customers, competitors, stockholders, suppliers, dealers and unions to find and achieve the right balance. 2. An example of a situation which a company might adopt a pricing objective to set prices low for a new product would be in order to establish market share. Pricing decisions are influenced by the need to compete in the marketplace, by social and ethical concerns as well as corporate image. 1st supporting fact is to become the number one retailer with a solid understanding of how to set prices with an ultimate goal of achieving maximum profit as well as market share objectives. 2nd supporting fact would be how to price, promote and distribute products to customers. This involves identifying different groups of people targeted by various companies marketing programs, distribution methods and competitive potential. On the contrary, with regard to profit maximization a company should adopt their objective by setting prices high with the intention of selling a greater number of products to targeted individuals with the full intention of generating the highest profits. Moreover, this kind of marketing and selling comes with a high risk of failure if the product is priced to high, fewer products will be sold ultimately losing money resulting in unsold excess ... • 3. Treatment Plan Introduction Fritscher (2011) postulates that a treatment plan may be formal or it may consist of informal handwritten notes. This is largely dependent on the documentation required by the agency or facility and all the other parties involved. However, regardless of its format, Fritscher (2011) states that the treatment plan should always be subject to change as the case progresses. According to Vrouvas (2013), a treatment plans can work as a mean of providing clients with guidelines that may foster moral support, provide incentive and offer practical solutions for dealing with adversity. This paper will describe a treatment plan and how it will be presented to the client. The paper will also make specific reference to Brittany. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, since Brittany s treatment plan was developed in consultation with her, the level of resistance should be minimal. Therefore, through formal and informal discussion, the client will be notified of the finalized treatment plan and specific focus will be placed on the objectives of the plan. It would also be acceptable to present a written copy of the treatment plan to the client. In any case, a copy of the treatment plan should always be available upon the client s request. Conclusion Conclusively, Brittany s treatment plan will form an agreement between her and the agency and may be modified periodically to accommodate the needs of the client. This could prove to be quite empowering for the client. Therefore, the problem or issues should be clearly identified and the determined objectives should be both measurable and realistic. In addition, all four parts of the treatment plan should be jointly related and should therefore reduce all confusions, misunderstandings and misinterpretations. This is necessary, especial as it relates to the client. Undoubtedly, when the client and the individuals responsible for facilitating the treatment plan work together cooperatively, it increases the likelihood of a successful process. References ... • 4. Original Position Essay From prep school to boot camp, from college boy to infantryman, twentieth century philosopher John Rawls lived both a privileged and challenging life that eventually led him to questioning society s take on justice. Educated at Princeton University for his undergraduate and graduate degrees, Rawls became a philosophy professor teaching at Cornell University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard University. His first book, A Theory of Justice, published in 1971 addressed the relationship between the values of freedom and equality. Focusing on justice as fairness , Rawls states that instead of competing against each other, freedom and equality can be balanced. Introducing the concept of the Original Position Rawls argues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research done by Nicholas Carnes and John Holbein from Duke University found that the U.S. Government is far more responsive to affluent Americans than to low income or working class citizens. When politicians make policy decisions on a wide range of issues, the outcomes tend to line up closely with the preferences of rich constituents, and meet the preferences of the poor only by chance. One in three Black males will go to prison in their lifetime . That horrendous fact, isn t because black men are more dangerous or more risk averse, it is because of the society we live in. In his article White Racism, Black Crime, and American Justice, criminologist Robert Staples argues that the legal system was made by white men to protect white interests and keep blacks down. Staples goes further to say that the system was characterized by second rate legal help for black defendants, biased jurors, and judges who discriminate in sentencing . These examples prove that social status and unearned privileges prevent us from protecting freedom and promoting equality. If we didn t have such a gap between races, social classes, gender, and other factors of identity, people would be more open to helping each. Thereby, a concept like the Original Position is the only way justice could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Negative Effects Of Violence In Television And Mass... With 59 dead and 527 injured, the Las Vegas shooting earlier this month was one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history. With no immediately apparent motive, it begs the question in people as to what might possess a person to go out and commit such a heinous crime. Indeed, the question has dogged the American populace ever since the invention of the modern mass shooting, and even before, attached to other senseless violent atrocities. Human brains are wired to look for causality in meaningless events as a survival mechanism, so they have a tendency to find it in places where it actually never existed in the first place. This is why violence in television and video games has come under fire in recent years as their influence expands, despite evidence that such phony violence does not beget real violence and may, in fact, be beneficial to a person s well being. Firstly, it should be noted that the studies people often cite when attempting to prove media violence has negative effects on behavior are flawed and inconsistent. In a review of publications on the subject conducted by psychologist Jonathan L. Freedman, he found that of the 2,500 publications, there were only 200 pieces of non duplicated research among them, stemming from places of varying scientific legitimacy. The ways in which many of these studies are conducted can lead to skewed results in favor of the hypothesis the researchers want to prove. When studying how violent media consumption affects play ... • 6. Illegal Immigrants Should Not Be Trafficked However, this topic has been very controversial since some Thai authorities do not acknowledge these Burmese individuals as victims , rather they acknowledge them as individuals who have been illegally smuggled into Thailand (Gjerdingen 699). This is one of the strongest arguments that Thailand has over not having a responsibility over those being trafficked into their country, because these people actually choose to be trafficked rather than by coercion. Trafficked victims are given assistance not because they choose to be trafficked, but because they were coerced into the system which violates their rights as free people. There is some truth to this statement, because some individuals are lured into being trafficked because of their current country s poor economic situation (Gjerdingen 718). If a person moves to another country willingly and under illegal circumstances then they are no longer considered as trafficked victims but as illegal immigrants. Therefore they cannot claim the status of refugee and receive protection and rights. This is the only circumstance in which Thailand would not have responsibility over the victims, but it is very difficult to distinguish one from the other, that Thailand might not be able to use this argument as often as it would like. Despite this controversy, it depicts that under the Morality of State Theory there is possibility that states might have an obligation to protect victims of human trafficking, if they are given the status as ... The Moral Responsibilities Within A Corporation Corporations can be large or small but they all have some sort of ethical impact on their employees, shareholders, customers, community, and surrounding environments. Richard DeGeorge writes, We can speak of corporations having moral responsibilities to act in certain ways, and they are morally responsible for the consequences of their actions on people. (p. 200). Large corporations are comprised of the board of directors, management, and their workers. They also deal with suppliers, customers, and have competitors. When the 1947 partition plan was established by the United Nations to split Palestine into two states, the Palestinian Arab people ended up with less land than the Jewish (Jewish 56 percent and Arabs 43 percent of Palestine). This decision lead to war between the two groups, meaning that there was no peace. The Arabs have been through a lot since the Partition plan came into play. Tallerman Co Pty Ltd v Nathan s Merchandise (Vic) Pty Ltd (1957) 98 CLR 93 PART I Summary of Facts The dispute occurred in Victoria between a registered company, Tallerman Co Pty Ltd ( the plaintiff ) and an incorporated company, Nathan s Merchandise Pty Ltd. ( the defendant), where both parties operated their business. Two previous binding contracts (orders No. 58 and No. M57) were made in communications on 14th May 1951 and 2nd August 1951 respectively, each for the sale by the plaintiff to the defendant of 1,000,000 Hungarian .22 bullets. When examining the two critical correspondences of 21st March 1952/ June 4th 1952, it was held that no intention by the defendant to discharge the previous 1951 contracts was found; the letters of offer and acceptance did not constitute a new and substituted contract, and hence all conditions of the earlier contracts were to be binding. Assuming that the contracts is of variation, the final substantial issue to be anlaysed was whether the Plaintiff s acceptance of the original contracts was effective for the Defendant to be in breach of its terms. Decision The appeal failed. As the plaintiff voluntarily confined itself to the two correspondences and thus chose not to sue in Victoria, these two letters, under New South Wales law, did not amount to a new contract, and the plaintiff was not protected by the offer and acceptance rule. The majority embraced the view that the result was tried on a conventional basis and would have been judged differently if the Plaintiff had not demanded the case to be determined in Sydney. • 15. Coconut Oil For A Saponification Of Organic Chemistry In... Abstract Despite most organic chemistry laboratories utilizing coconut oil for a saponification reaction in laboratories, little has been done to utilize an alternative, more superior, oil for the reaction. An extremely common allergy to have is to be allergic to nuts, and more specifically coconuts. When laboratory experiments are conducted using coconut oil it endangers the lives of students and laboratory personal. Coconut oil is also more expensive than other oils that could potentially be used in the chemical process. After researching alternatives, it has been determined that vegetable oil would be the most viable alternative to coconut oil due to its low cost as well as its fairly high reaction rate. If college and high school laboratories would switch to a vegetable based oil instead of the more standard coconut oil, then students and staff with allergies would be safer, the cost for the overall laboratory experiment would be lower, as well as a consistently high reaction rate. I. INTRODUCTION The saponification reaction is one of the most basic foundational blocks for any chemistry major. The reaction is typically around one hour and consists of the mixings of a fatty oil such as coconut oil, vegetable oil, bio waste oils (used cooking oil), or other oils and a base such as sodium hydroxide. The set up for the laboratory experiment is very important, you need to have a continuous stirring vassal due to the long stir time that takes up the majority of the ... My Summer Reading Influenced My Life A typical summer day in the life of a six year old girl would consist of many common fun activities such as coloring, watching the latest television shows on Disney Channel, and playing with Barbies. However, when I was six years old my summer did not include any of those activities. Rather, my day included summer reading lists, books, and even more books. It wasn t that I didn t enjoy any of the fun activities most six year old girls did at my age, but I was much more fascinated with learning. Through reading I enjoyed learning new words, phrases, and ideas. For example, I would loved reading books by Dr. Seuss because of the words and phrases that rhymed together. That is exactly what happened when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary visited the Balkans and was shot; this sparked World War 1. The killing of the Archduke, however, is not the only reason for World War 1. There were actually four underlying causes that led to World War 1: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. All four of these causes played their own part in leading to World War 1 and set off a chain of events that left Europe shaken. A Rhetorical Analysis on Nineteen Eighty-Four Running Head: NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR Nineteen Eighty Four: A Critical Essay on Rhetoric Bereket Kifle Composition 12 Honors Abstract George Orwell employs the usage of different rhetoric throughout 1984. The rhetoric differs from describing the human body and its struggle to survive to the different crimes and how the citizens felt about them. Also, within 1984 lies a warning from Orwell: to eliminate the caustic consequences of a communist government. While Orwell served as part of the Indian Imperial Police in Burma during the 1920s, he examined the faults of the communist government. This phenomenon inspired Orwell to warn governments world wide to stay on the right path to a safe and free rule. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Logos Presented in 1984 This dictator, Big Brother, has lost all respect for the humble earnings of a single household family. The despicable actions prophesized by Orwell s warning message leads to an important question: why do dictators steal from the poor and give to themselves? The state is responsible for the organization and direction of the economic life of the country, in accordance with a central social and economic development plan , (Gale Research group, 1998). Orwell knew this and talked about it quite a bit in his novel, which established logos; he knew that installing fear within the minds of the citizens he watched over would lead, whether they wanted it or not, to their safety. Stability is safety. Less knowledge is safety. When the Party is questioned less, there are fewer opportunities for the Party to be wrong. This is why the mere thought of hating Big Brother earns anyone a front row seat to death. Big Brother s opinions are strict very strict. There are various reasons why people are for or against full inclusion. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (2012) defines full inclusion as, a popular policy/practice in which all students with disabilities, regardless of the nature or the severity of the disability and need for related services, receive their total education within the regular education classroom in their home school (p. 1). Full inclusion is a policy in which the ultimate goal is to eliminate the need of pull out programs. When children are separated in schools, they begin to believe that one group is better than the other. More often than not, elementary aged students refer to the special education students as the mental ones. Although children do not intentionally negatively judge their peers, the segregation in school systems makes them believe that is why they are separated. Batchelor and Taylor stated, Social interaction within the peer culture is the basis from which friendships develop (Guralnick, 1981), and is an important medium through which language, cognitive and social learning takes place (Guralnick 1981; McEvoy Odom, 1987) (p. 1). Students need social interaction with their peers in order to make friends and develop social skills. When students with disabilities are all in one room together, they are not being exposed to the people they will talk to in the real world, and therefore will not develop proper social skills. When regular education students are integrated with students with disabilities, they become much more accepting of people with differences. They make new friends and learn how to accommodate for those who need extra help. Keeping children separated plays a role on the reputation and mental health of those with disabilities. Abrams, Hogg, and Marques (2005) stated, Whereas the experience of inclusion is frequently accompanied by positive emotions, the experience of being excluded typically leads to negative emotions, including sadness, loneliness, jealousy, anger, shame, and anxiety (Baumeister Tice, 1990; Leary,1990) (p. 64). Children are not born with hatred in their hearts. They are accepting of everyone until they are taught to hate. College students reflect those same statistics. Concern is raised about how alcohol use patterns developed in the teen years is not an issue that time resoles. The absorption of alcohol under normal circumstances is first explained, with there being a set amount of alcohol being removed each hour and if that amount is exceeded alcohol will continue building up in the blood. As time passed, and technology evolved, my mother obtained a more professional grade digital camera for her own personal use and allowed me to use it from time to time as I learned more about cameras, angles, and lighting. This seemingly cheap camera lead to me ultimately increasing my knowledge in photography and the start of my photography company in 2013 named Bold Photography. Bold Photography was started was the desire to capture any and every opportunity available. After shooting my first lifestyle and portrait sessions, I learned more about the type of photography I am truly interested in capturing and have started to specialize in lifestyle, headshot, and event photography. Bold Photography has grown farther than I every could images, and because of the talent I have been blessed with I have been able to capture photos for the cover of magazines and at some of the most ... Several researchers have made this claim, yet others have not been able to replicate the experiment. 2. What is the authors hypothesis Steel, Ball Runk (1997) sought to test the theory of the Mozart effect based on the study completed by Rauscher, Shaw Ky (1993). The authors hypothesis predicted that if the Mozart effect enhances spatial reasoning tasks, then listening to Mozart s music should enhance the participant s ability to complete the backwards digit span task. 3. How was the hypothesis developed The authors reviewed several previously published studies on the subject of the Mozart Effect. 4. How does this study relate to the problem Rauscher et al specified that an appropriate task would involve not just spatial recognition but should incorporate spatial and temporal transformation, which was the basis for the dependent measure of backwards digit span task. If listening to Mozart was proven to improve performance, then the participant s performance on the backwards digit span task should improve after listening to Mozart. 5. What type of research design did Steele et al. use This research followed the empirical research method of a true experiment since it contained the following critical features: the independent variable is a manipulated variable under the researcher s control; the researcher uses random assignment to ... • 36. Women s Portrayal Of Women And Their Eras Female roles have changed dramatically in present literature, writers such as Stephen Crane, Henry James, Sherwood Anderson and Jean Toomer were influential in their portrayal of women and their eras. To be feminine was to be the prefect lady and young girls are taught to submit to authority and matrimony. As a result, women are regarded as incompatible to their male counterparts. Female roles in literature were to follow the customs of marriage, for marriage meant social success. To be unmarried is considered a failure as a woman, cursed to be a victim of society. Through out this essay we will discuss the mistreatment towards unmarried women and the how they re negatively viewed by society through works of literature such as Maggie, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... this misconceptions is rooted in the double standards of society: how men can ruin one women and leave her for another with exemption. Rejected by her mother, brother, then by Pete, Crane writes about Maggie s fate and how she went away (Crane 47). The last we see of Maggie, she is meeting with her last client and, without knowing, led closer to her death. As a woman living in a bad neighborhood, Maggie eventually working as a prostitute was not surprising given her circumstances. Ironically, her brother Jimmie tells her go teh hell or go teh work! (Crane 13) with hell referring to to prostitution. Becoming a prostitute later in the literature assumes that young, poor and unmarried women have no means of escape from the hand they re dealt. Maggie seemed destined to be nothing more than a prostitute and it left little affect that she dies that way. The crying from her family and neighbors seemed more towards themselves then Maggie. Henry James Daisy Miller makes known the differences between modern America and tradition European customs through our protagonist, Daisy Miller. Unlike Cranes Maggie, Daisy is a young and wealthy New Yorker whose family takes advantage of their wealth and social scene by traveling abroad. Similar to Cranes Maggie, Daisy enjoys the company of the many gentlemen in New York and abroad, representing the American flirt. Daisy follows her instinct and enjoys a looser structure of living. • 38. Analysis of Bladerunner Essay Introduction In the science of studying media and communication, there are many different ways of approaching the subject in which you are going to analyse. That is to analyse advertisements, texts, TV series, films etc. and other media. My task for this assignment is to give an analysis of a film of my choice. A film is a quite complex medium to analyse; thus it is important to have analysis quot;tools quot; or some criteria to follow. In my analysis I am asked to consider the use and resolution of binary opposition and through analysis of narrative structure. In my assignment I am going to consider how the couple is represented, and how the narrative structure and binary oppositions have influence on the plot of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Todorov (in O Shaugnessy, 1999, p. 107) there is a basic standard to narratives. In the start of the narrative, there is a stable situation (equilibrium) that is disrupted (disequilibrium) by a quot;villainous force quot; (Todorov in Taylor, L., amp; Willis, A., 1999, p. 76). This stable situation is restored in the end of the narrative. Or as O Sullivan et al. says quot;A meets B; something happens; order returns quot; (O Sullivan et al., 1994, p. 195). According to Turner quot;most films start by establishing the lines of conflict which will determine or motivate the events and actions of the story quot;(1988, p.85). The opening sequence of Blade Runner displays the main conflict. Holden, who is a human interrogator, is killed by the replicant Leon. These are opposing forces that set the main conflict or the plot of the story. However, this theory is not too easy to apply to Blade Runner. The movie does not start with what Todorov calls equilibrium (O Shaughnessey, 1999, p 107). In BR the equilibrium is quite diffuse. Even though the situation is going to get more unstable throughout the movie, there is a lack of stability, or plenitude, here. Deckard is in the middle of the chaos existing in Los Angeles in 2019, in a hostile atmosphere. The disequilibrium starts when Roy and Leon (two replicants) enter the eye laboratory of the Tyrell Corporation. It is the first time in the film we encounter the replicants cold and ...
