Our class designed an experiment in order to test the ability of the enzyme cellobiase to break down
cellobiose, in order to produce p nitrophenol when certain factors were changed including
temperature, pH, and inhibitor concentration as well as a change in concentration in the enzyme and
substrate. A baseline experiment was established and absorbances were taken in order to determine the
concentration of p nitrophenol in each scenario. We then took these calculations in order to then
calculate Vo, inhibitor, enzyme and substrate concentration to produce a graph.

characterize a social group (Banks, 2001). The enormous impact of culture is illustrated by its
influence on all aspects of our lives (Gollnick Chinn, 2002). An activity as basic as eating is one

Odysseus is admired as a hero. However, scholars have been debating the topic for some time, and
some scholars argue that he is not a hero because he is reluctant to leave home, he loses all his men

Although not willing at first, he did join the Trojan war sacrificing time with his wife and being at
home to teach his son to be a man. At first he pretends to be a mad man, sowing the fields with salt,
but is discovered when he stopped before killing son. Serving in the war ended up costing him 20
years away from his wife and son. Even with the sacrifices, Odysseus went and lead the Greek army
to victory.
However, some scholars argue that he is not a hero because he lost all his men, cheated on his wife
and was reluctant to leave his home to fight. Odysseus does lose all his men, but it is due to divine
intervention. He cheats on wife with Circe to save his men and is reluctant as any soldier would be to
leave his home and family. The reasons that scholars argue make Odysseus not a hero were things
beyond his control.
In conclusion, Odysseus is a hero because he conquers adversaries, is brave and ingenious, and makes
sacrifices which are the defining qualities of a hero. Through his fantastic journey, he more than
proves himself a hero. Odysseus is somewhat similar to the war heroes of today. He came home

The Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson reveals that the ghastly
depiction of the Indian religion (or what Rowlandson perceives as a lack of religion) in the narrative is
directly related to the ideologies of her Puritan upbringing. Furthermore, Rowlandson s experiences in
captivity and encounter with the new, or Other religion of the Indians cause her rethink, and question
her past; her experiences do not however cause her to redirect her life or change her ideals in any way.

It is clear that Mary Rowlandson s encounter with the Other causes her to doubt her past, specifically
her devotion to God. At the end of the narrative Rowlandson confirms this claim with the remark:

rather confirms and strengthens them. When the narrator returns to her former lifestyle she in no way
demonstrates any new knowledge from her experience, but rather returns home with the same degree

Negotiation is the process of making amicable decisions between individuals or groups. In this
assignment, I will discuss a negotiation that did not result in the best possible solution for all parties.
This negotiation was related to my work experience where I was a realtor who was representing a
buyer in negotiation of the property s price, mortgage loan rate and terms. I am a real estate licensee

From the given situation, I believe that purchase contract negotiation involves clarification and mutual
agreement on the structure and requirements of the contract and I acknowledge the positions of both
parties to gain the first step of forming the contract. I utilize active listening and collaborative
communication techniques at the first stage of forming a contract. These techniques allow me to focus
on both sides must recognize basic areas of contract agreement and the importance of other terms and
conditions. Two days after the escrow opened, the buyer conducted the home inspection. As the home
inspector recommended that the buyer needed to spend addition costs for minors repairs. According to
the additional terms conditions, the seller was not responsible for any repairs and the buyer was
completely satisfied with the current condition of the property. Two days later, a certified appraiser
assessed the property, it valued turned out to be approximately $422,000, which was less than the
contracted price. According to the standard terms in California purchase contract, the buyer has the
right to renegotiate the purchase price if the appraised value is less than the offer price. In this given
situation, the seller was willing to lower the price down to appraised value of $422,000. In the event of
the seller wasn t able to lower the purchase price, then, the buyer has the rights to cancel the contract.

The answer can found in the prefatory advertisement of the novel, where Lewis, very consciously
gives the name of his sources, the German legend of the Bleeding Nun, different Danish ballads and
Spanish poems aware of the accusations of plagiarism that can be intended against him. We
encountered this method before in The Castle of Otranto where Horace Walpole presents his novel as
a resurfaced medieval manuscript; in essence the authorship of the novel is usurped. Lewis does the
same thing hiding behind his sources; in this way he renounces to the authorship of the text. The novel
is intertextual not only in the Romantic disclosure of the literary sources, but also in the many
allusions scattered around in the narrative texture and in the paratextual elements. The text is
narcissistic in the sense that it cannot refrain from drawing not only upon itself, but also upon
literature in general. An example of this reflexivity is the playful poem in the style of Horace that
opens the romance, where Lewis makes a rather dark prophecy for the future of this literary offspring.

Summary: In this section it opens on a small town named Holcomb which is located in Kansas. Mr.
Herb Clutter wakes up and eats a light breakfast, while on the complete other side of the state Perry
Smith smokes a cigarette as his breakfast and then his friend Dick Hickock comes to pick him up.
Nancy Clutter is awoken by a phone call and she arranges to meet with her friend to teach her how to

Clutter and how he believes that the social life of a religious family is rooted in the church. This quote
adds a lot to the book because it introduces the reader into Mr. Clutter s beliefs and how he thinks that
people should act, especially if they are religious. He thinks that they should not drink, at all in their
whole lives. He does not believe that having beliefs like this will shrink your social circle, he thinks
that it will show who to actually value and be friends with to get a beneficial friendship out of it. This

I pushed connect, as I did everyday, but something was different today. When I clicked on the mouse
the word ERROR appeared red on my screen. I leaned back, and thought about how this stupid
computer was always giving me trouble. I went to unplug it, to begin again. I slid my hand down the
back and reached for the plug. I gulped as I realized the enormous computer I had been sitting at this

Historical Significance
Washington s significance cannot be overstated. He led the Continental Army to victory over the
British. He believed in a strong federal government which greatly influenced the nation during his
eight years in office. He did not allow others to trap him as royalty. He worked on the principle of
merit. His warning against foreign entanglements was heeded by future presidents. By declining a
third term, he set up the precedent of a two term limit.
Events and Accomplishments of George Washington s Presidency:
Washington s administration was one of precedents with many standards that are still followed. For
example, he relied on his cabinet for advice. Since his cabinet appointments went unchallenged,
presidents are generally able to choose their own cabinets. He chose a successor for Chief Justice John
Jay from outside the bench instead of based on seniority.
Domestically, Washington was able to stop the first real challenge to federal authority with the
suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. Pennsylvania farmers were refusing to pay a tax and he
sent troops to ensure compliance.
In foreign affairs, Washington was a huge proponent of neutrality. He declared the Proclamation of
Neutrality in 1793 which stated that the US would be impartial toward belligerent powers currently in

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence,
whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of
misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger
their liberties or democratic processes (Dwight Eisenhower). These were the words of Dwight
Eisenhower, the 34th president of the United States, in his 1961 Farewell Address. These words were a
warning to Americans. Eisenhower was one of the greatest military minds America has ever known.
Leading America through World War II and Korea, and winning against all odds. He was a highly
respectable figure and highly intelligent. He used these skills to lead the American people into a
prosperous period. His warnings of the future were to be taken with the utmost urgency and fear. He
wanted to protect the American people from themselves. Eisenhower s farewell address was intended
to be both a synopsis of the period of his presidency, and a warning to future generations. His gravest
predictions were of the government themselves. He feared that one day the governments; state, local,
and federal; could attempt to infringe on their rights and freedoms. Eisenhower believed that the first
attempt that was already trying to dig in it s roots was the military industrial complex.
The military industrial complex was a term coined by Eisenhower in this speech. It has been defined
as the intrenching of the military into the government of a country. In this he feared that having a
perpetual military force, and even worse a constantly active military could infringe the rights of
Americans. How would this happen? Well, in America, there is not a strict democracy. America is a
representative democracy. This means that Americans do not vote for all of their decisions.
Switzerland is a true democracy. They vote in every election for everything. However, in America
citizens elect people to be in charge of their voting. Americans give up power to politicians so people
