Determinism Vs Compatibilism Essay
To compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism, we must
know what each is first before we can break them down to their cores and begin to an analyze each
to see what is the basically the same and what is different. John Chaffee author of The Philosopher s
Way, A Text with Readings states that determinism
is The view that every event, including human
actions, is brought about by previous events in accordance with universal causal laws that govern
the world. Human freedom is an illusion (Chaffee, 173). Chaffee s definition of compatibilism is

Compatibilists are panned by determinists for failing to comprehend the extent to which human
freedom is limited, and by libertarians for failing to grasp the true extent of human freedom.
Compatibilism suggests a considerate description of moral freedom. However, a line has to be
drawn between that which is determined and that which is open to choice. Compatibilists have to
decide on exactly what is and what is not a seminal factor. The intricacies of the sciences make
such a line tough to induce.
Compatibilism decides that moral responsibility is significant in our social order but that it is not
reasonable to hold a person responsible for actions caused by his emotions, beliefs, desires and
decisions if he has no choice about having them
It is, however, hard for the compatibilists to decide what exactly is resolute and what can be freely
selected. The intricate environment of people and the roles of physics, genetics and psychology
make deciding what exactly is, or is not, a determining cause extremely difficult.
Compatibilism also allows for originality in our choices so not all our choices are the result of
prevailing yearnings and

Host City Economy
For the host city to be determined it has to be appealing to tourist, sponsors and spectators. That is
besides being a franchise city of the NFL (Depken Wilson, 2003).
The NFL, local governments and various associations of hotels and restaurants normally predict the
economic impact that the hosting will have on the city (Depken Wilson, 2003). This mainly takes
into account the expenditure that the city is likely to incur while determining the real benefits that
it will get. For instance the police and fire departments are paid for the overtime hours that they
work to ensure safety and security is maintained. The spending is done according to the projected
impact and the extent to which the prevailing economy can allow. Tampa Bay had to scale back
spending on the Super Bowl due to the state of the current state of the economy. ... Show more

Economists generally estimate that super bowl always has had an impact of between $300 $400

(Christopher Peters, 2006). In simple layman terms, the sum total comprise of the economic
impact of the Super Bowl on the host city (Polzer, 2003). The direct impacts come form the
spending by the various participants while indirect impacts are the multiplier effect the is felt
way after the event is done. The money that was spent locally is re spent again leading to
additional rounds of spending (Wenner, 2005). Indirect impacts also include rise in local residents

What Is The Personification In The Dream Of The Rood
Dream of the Rood 1.The speakers described in the story are referred to as the dreamer and a
cross. The cross is given huge personification inside the story as it is an inanimate object. Both
speakers view Christ as a selfless hero. They use the names such as heavens Lord, the wielder of
victories, the prince of glory, and heavens Guardian to describe him. The poet describes Christ
as someone who has won a great battle against the sins of mankind. By winning this battle he is
able to rebirth into a society that is more holy than it ever was before. This to the poet is
something so mighty that it alone has the power to buy true happiness and peace for all of
mankind. 2.Word structure and style of the poem leaves a flowy, serene feel throughout the story.
The use of personification in terms of the cross and the mass amounts of imagery brings out an
outworldly presence. The inner thoughts of the dreamer can be easily confused with reality and
leaves the reader wondering what is actually happening and what isn t. Riddles add to the flow of
the poem by providing a fantasy feel. The Wanderer 1.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

structure. I believe this is relevant to the universal situation that many people face going through
life. There are many times when we lose things or people that mean the world to us and we have
to start over. It s important to not take what is right in front of us for granted. We will all
eventually passed away so it s important to be content rather than wondering endlessly for what we

Effective Science Teaching
Science is, by its nature, inquiry based and science knowledge is built through processes in which
discoveries of the natural world are made (Abruscato, 2000). It utilizes discovery and scientific
thinking process to explore and learn knowledge and skills. Learning by doing is the new efficient
method in teaching science. For kindergarten, this method leads to better understanding of science
concepts and builds skills that children will use in future life .What a child can do with assistance
now, they can later do on their own (Vygotsky, 1978). John Dewey (1916) stated that children must
be engaged in an active quest for learningand new ideas. Inquiry is important in educating
kindergarteners because it not only keeps them interested in lessons but also helps them retain more
information when performing exploration and investigation. Children are naturally motivated to
learn and actively seek out information to help their understanding (Piaget, 1950).The success of
students who participate in hands on inquiry activities suggests that if students have first hands
experience with science, concepts are easier to understand and apply and students are generally
more favorable to science and have better understanding of the nature of science .Within a
conceptual framework, inquiry learning and active learner involvement can lead to important
outcomes in the classroom. In kindergarten, students who are actively making observations,
collecting results and drawing

If you live in Milwaukee, WI the rules for being eligible for supplemental social security income
are the same as if you lived anywhere else in the nation. In the majority of cases, the rule is that
you cannot receive Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI) and Social Security Disability
Insurance (SSDI) at the same time. Only very rare cases get approval for concurrent benefits. To
receive both the SSDI and SSI benefits at the same time, you must first be approved for Social
security disability insurance and your monthly payments must be on the low side. There are
several reasons why some people may have low SSDI monthly payments. These include: 1.You

For applicants who are blind, the monthly SGA amount for 2018 is $1970. For applicants who
have a medical impairment other than blindness, the monthly SGA amount for 2018 is $1180.
When you apply for Social security insurance, all your countable income sources will be
evaluated to determine if you meet the requirements. The countable income in general consists
of all the earned income as well as all the unearned income. When you get SSDI benefits, this
money is considered to be unearned income. However, you should be fully aware that any
money you earn should not exceed the minimum as specified by the social security insurance
program. If you are earning SSDI more than your SSI, then you will not get the latter. In the
State of Wisconsin, the limit set by SSI on unearned income is $710 per month. If you exceed
that, you will not be a candidate for SSI. Being eligible for SSI is not as simple as you would
imagine. There is a significant amount of documentation required and the agency requires a great
deal of information to determine your eligibility. They will look at both your earned and
unearned income when determining your financial need as well as any other money that you may
have access to through other sources and your assets. .The SSI program has a monthly income
limit and it also has a limit on total available assets. In Milwaukee, the total asset limits are $3,000
for married couples and $2,000 for single people. If your

Gender Essentialism In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In Alice Munro s short story, Boys and Girls, the narrator, a young girl growing up on a fox farm
who is coming of age and is thus forced to conform to societies expectations of women. Andrew
Bennett and Nicholas Boyle argue that, Literary texts call into question many of our essentialist
ideas about gender(183) and Munro s story is an example of how literature can help us question the
validity of gender essentialist thought. In this essay, I will argue that Munro s short story does
challenge common essentialist views on gender by exploring the way that society constructs and
imposes gender roles on her characters, particularly the young narrator; and by analyzing the
symbolic relationship between the narrator and the mare named Flora.... Show more content on

At the start of the story her dreams reflect her tomboy personality. She dreams of adventures
where she is the hero, constantly saving others. Munro writes, These stories were about myself,
when I had grown a little older, they took place in a world that was recognizably mine, yet one
that presented opportunities for courage, boldness, and self sacrifice, as mine never did. But as
her personality is molded by her family who criticize her masculine traits and encourage
feminine ones instead, the change is reflected in her dreams. They change, and instead her
dreams focus on her no longer being the hero but rather being the beautiful damsel in distress.
This is shown in this quote, A story might start off int he old way, with a spectacular danger, a

carbonate facies you have discovered. Starved Rock State covers about 200 miles and some 470
million years, from Ordovician sandstones to Pleistocene glacial till. The Ordovician St. Peter
Formation sandstone was deposited across the midcontinent during the second major marine
transgression of the Paleozoic Era. The first transgression deposited Upper Cambrian to Lower
Ordovician clastics and carbonates. The clastic to carbonate rock transition is consistent with
gradual sea level rise over the North American craton. Sea level dropped late in the early
Ordovician, exposing the carbonate strata to processes of cave development. The St. Peter... Show

Criminal Behavior Theories Paper
This week our focus is on theories of criminal behavior and why people choose the behavior they
do. According to (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2012), there are three main criminal behavior theories;
Labeling theory, Conflict theory and the Radical theory. Each theory outlines different perspectives
on why an individual engages in criminal activity along with the public s reaction.
The first theory is the Labeling theory which was first contemplated by Charles Horton Cooley,
William I. Thomas, and George Herbert Mead around 1918. It is one of the most important
approaches to understanding criminal behavior. It basically theorizes that no one act is inherently
criminal, but it is merely the interaction and relationship between the ... Show more content on

One example may be that some children engage in activities such as breaking windows, stealing
fruit from other people s trees, climbing into other people s yards, or playing hooky from school.
In upscale neighborhoods, these acts may be looked at by parents, teachers, and police as innocent
aspects of the process of growing up. In poor areas, on the other hand, these same activities might
be seen as tendencies towards juvenile delinquency, which suggests that differences of class and
race play an important role in the process of assigning labels of criminal activity (Adler et al., 2012).
Next we look at the Conflict theory. Conflict theory states that tensions and conflicts arise when
resources, status, and power are unevenly distributed between groups in society and that these
conflicts become the reason for social change. In this context, power can be understood as control
of material resources and accumulated wealth, control of politics and the institutions that make up
society, and one s social status relative to

which represents its climb into fame and ends just before the current depression it s going through.
This is known as, The Age of the Piano(Bellis, About). There are many types of pianos that can be

His first attempt, in 1720, was successful, in the goals he was trying to accomplish, but the music
was soft and the keys were too hard to push down. We still adopt his system of 88 piano keys to
create music. Some of his original pianos still exist today in the world. There are currently ten
that are still kept in museums (Natural History, 5). The piano was first designed without a strong
system of plucking the strings. This initially made the first couple attempts a failure, but some
German inventors got together and developed a better system of making intricate sounds (with
deep and light feeling) with hammers (The Piano, 6). These depths allowed for the expression of
romanticism and emotion. The piano was invented, because the harpsichord was unable of
creating depths (Bellis, About). It was made because of a want or need for music and feeling.
Pianos, today, are still used in creating music and beats which are enjoyed by the people who
listen to these sounds. The piano has been a part of creating, playing, and enjoying music for a
long time, but is losing demand. People have been trying to come up with different methods of

How Early Mosques Affected Islamic Culture
Early mosques were very simple and plain. However, as the mosque developed and became more
complex, it began to impact Islamic culture. One factor it affected was architecture and design.
In early Islamic times, mosques were usually made out of older structures or built with local
materials in the style of the local buildings. There was no standardization of the structure of
mosques until later on, when all mosques began to take on a general outline. Mosques began to
be built on a grander and large scale. The mosque also began to influence the way that other
buildings were built. One of the earliest important mosques is the Great Mosque of Damascus,
which was one of the first mosques to be built in Syria. The artwork and design of this mosque

i)Substantive Breach:If the reserve was properly created in accordance with the text of the
treaty there may not be a breach in the Crown s obligations. To create a reserve in accordance
with the Indian Act, the Supreme Court of Canada set out the requirements in the Ross River
Deana Council decision. These requirements, as applied by Wewaykum Indian Band v. Canada,
include an act by the Crown to set apart Crown land for use of an Indian band combined with an
intention to create a reserve on the part of persons having authority to bind the Crown and
practical steps by the Crown and the Indian band to realize that intention. The Crown set apart
land to create a reserve when the Indian Agent appointed a surveyor to survey land according to
the entitlements in Treaty 7. The Redfoot Nation realized these intentions when they were vocal
regarding their dissatisfaction on the location of the land, however practical steps were also taken
by the Crown when the Superintendent General of Indian Affairs moved the Redfoot to the
surveyed lands for their use as a reserve. Therefore, it appears that the Crown fulfilled the
requirements and, as a result, the reserve identified as IR 147 was properly created, fulfilling the
substantive duties of the fulfillment of Treaty 7 to establish a reserve in southern Alberta.

The Effects Of Modified Early Warning Score
Most adverse events often are preceded by early warning signs indicating clinical deterioration.
The modified early warning score (MEWS) is a patient acuity scoring system that was
developed to assist clinical nurses with identifying clinical deterioration in a patient and when
to initiate a rapid response team call (Stewart et al., 2014). According to Rose et al., (2015)
research suggests that before a catastrophic event, signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration
can be detected as early as 6 8hrs prior to the event. In an effort to identify the subtle changes in a
patient s condition, MEWS scoring is being adopted by most hospitals. To help with the early
recognition of clinical decline, members of the multidisciplinary teams in acute care and
emergency rooms track and score the physiologic parameters such as blood pressure, respiratory
rate, heart rate, temperature and neurological status (Urban et al., 2015). The MEWS assigns a
number between 0 and 3 to the five physiological categories obtained from the patient based on
MEWS score card. Each item on the score card has a weighted value and a score of 0 as the ideal
score. If one of the values falls into an abnormal range, it is given a score depending on the
deviation from the patient s norm (Urban et al., 2015). Individual scores from all parameters are
added up to give the total MEWS score. The higher the MEWS score the more unstable a patient
is. Several research studies indicate that the use of MEWS has aided in

Hong Kong Will Be Introduced As Asia s World City
Abstract: For this journal, Hong Kong will be introduced as Asia s world city. Lecture notes and
readings from class will be provided to back this characterization and fundamentally shape an
analysis, particularly one aimed to make on the recent political and cultural events in Hong Kong.
Evidently the circulating effects of globalization and economic policy have rendered islands of
Hong Kong into major tourist attractions. For instance, Cause Bay and Wan Chai are two colorful
districts that offer thrilling nightclubs and stupendous ethnic restaurants. Other locations nearby
like Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok draw people to its many exhibits of Chinese culture and specialty
shops. Unfortunately, I have not yet experienced these places but I am convinced after gaining
some experience walking in New York s Chinatown, why Hong Kong no longer lives up to it s
meaning: Fragrant Harbor. Also, it was coincidental finding unappetizing comments left by Tourists
on travel websites. They all dismissed the city s reputation of possessing perfumed sights and
sounds with the scents of opium spices and incense to be historical or mythological. Instead, these
tourists who clearly were disappointed enough to share their experiences online, reported smelling
overbearing stenches of dead fish and rotten cabbage, similarly to what I encountered in
Chinatown, New York. Despite some scents of the city were not as pleasant as what travel agents

Effects Of Slavery In The Caribbean
Slavery has taken many forms throughout history and still exists in a few forms to the day. The
Caribbean has had a painful history regarding the slavery of two cultures. The slavery of the region
ultimately led to racism against africans and to the industrial revolution. Communities of the
Caribbean have been haunted by their history of slaveryand colonialism which fueled colonial
European capitalism. The impact that the plantation system had on the region has left a lasting scar
on underdeveloped societies riddled with governments that exploit their citizens.
One of the largest impacts from the colonial era had on the Caribbean is on its economy. The
Caribbean was first mined for gold by Columbus when he discovered the area. When the gold ran
out, plantations were set up for growing coffee and sugar to sell on the European markets. The
system is ingrained into the culture.
The sugar plantation was a landed estate that specialized in export production. It combined large
scale tropical agriculture, African labor, European and African technology, European animal
husbandry, Asian and American plants, and the climate and soils of the Americas. The typical sugar
plantation was a big business establishment, both farm and factory. Sugarcane was grown, raw
sugar manufactured, and molasses distilled into rum. (source 2)

Shadow Reflection
The student I chose to follow for a shadow study is a junior girl who has been very open in class

if she showed up. I was informed that she was marked absent. That day in Communications, the

Government Is An Instrument Of The State Essay
At times confuse is made among state and Government and the two words are used on the other
hand. Government is an instrument of the state through which it does its inspirations. A state, as
we have seen, is a politically dealt with and geographically obliged collection of people that has
the benefit to use constrain. It is a reasonable substance in this manner ought to have an instrument
through which to work. Government is such an instrument. Each one of the nationals of a state are
not part of a government (Shobeiri, S. M. 2007). It s Forms: Governments may take a couple of
structures. In history, there have appeared to be many sorts of government. Aristotle had given a
six wrinkle portrayal of governments three standard and three degraded sorts of government. The
three common sorts of government will be government, control by one individual; advantaged, led
by a couple; nation, oversee by various. In case these ordinary structures are contorted, government
gets the opportunity to be persecution, nobility gets the chance to be religious government and
country gets the chance to be vote based framework. Political Parties: Political social affairs have
ended up being vital associates of government in present day times. They are the instruments
whereby hopefuls are doled out and picked. Notwithstanding the way that they are not official
affiliations made by the state, they are before long, semiofficial as in states underwrite, guide and

Impact Of Social Networking On The Classroom Of Criminal...
What is your narrowed topic? Be detailed in your answer. You can use any of the versions you ve
developed for prior assignments. The most fundamental type of communication, human face to
face interaction, is becoming less and less important as social networking has provoked false
senses of connection, which may lead to negative physical or psychological predicaments. Who is
your primary audience or reader? Why? Be detailed in your answer about your audience. My
primary audiences are employees responsible for the management of online content, and
professionals in the field of Criminal Justice that have an interest in the risks of social networking.
Parents of children and young people aged between eight and 17 years are incorporated as part of
the audience. In general, I am targeting men and women that use social networking media to
communicate. In a sentence or short paragraph, what is your thesis statement, including your
angle? Write what will appear in your essay. The impact of social networking interactions has
caused negative and positive effects on a large scale, and understanding these effects can help
society as a whole to understand societal relationships and even heritable characteristics. What topic
sentences will you use as the foundation of your communication? (If necessary, add more points.)
Social networking has not only transformed the way people communicate, but they have also
changed the kind and amount of information that is accessible.

Power Electronics For Renewable Energy Utilization
Power Electronics Application in Renewable Energy Utilization Kyle Felthauser

Lubbock, United States of America kyle.felthauser@ttu.edu Abstract This paper covers the need
and use of power electronics in the application of renewable energy utilization. Covered in this
paper is wind energy with variable speed drives and their controlling power electronics. Solar
energy, specifically photovoltaics and their controlling power electronics. High voltage direct
current transmission lines and the power electronics that allow for this technology to exist.
Keywords Power Electronics; Wind Energy; Solar Energy, High Voltage Direct Current
I.INTRODUCTION
Energy demands are on the rise across the world and in many modernized countries the push for
renewable energy is rising. Two of the main renewable energy sources that are getting a lot of
attention are wind and solar. One of the difficulties presented with some renewable energy sources
are their inherent inconsistency. Wind intensities change from hour to hour and from one season to
the next. Solar radiation can be strong one minute and be nearly blocked out the next by a cloud.
To make renewable energy more reliable and coincide with strict utility standards the use of power
electronics is needed. The advancement in power electronics has also greatly improved in
efficiency and allows more energy to be captured by natural resources. Another difficulty with

Racism In Pecola Breedlove s The Bluest Eye
A common thought process that most people have been experiencing within the past decade is the
idea that racism is an occurrence of the past. This couldn t be further from the truth. Overall violent
crime has been declining since 2005, but the percentage of violent crime victims amongst the
African American population hasn t exactly followed this pattern. The percentage of violent crime
victims in this demographic fell from 1.7 to 1.3 percent from 2005 to 2013, but from 2013 to 2014
rose from 1.3 to 1.4 percent (US D.O.J, 6). Because of this slight increase in violent crimes against
African Americans, it is still important for us teachers to educate the younger generation about the
disparity our society has established between the different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Other books on the topic give us an important but at the same time an all too common view of
this subject. Digging into the novel we see a continuing theme where black characters are being
put down by white society throughout the book, and there are even instances where members of
the minority put each other down. This vicious cycle is a form of learned submission that
Morrison s characters decided to accept as a given way of life. An example of this submission
occurs when Morrison is giving us a coherent description of the Breedlove family for the first time
in the novel and we are blatantly told that they are ugly. Despite the fact that Morrison makes it
extremely clear that the Breedloves are ugly, she begins to make contradictions when she states that
you [could] look closely and not [be able to] find the source (Morrison, 39) of their ugliness.
Morrison is trying to point out the confusing rules that society s beauty standards are based upon.
She starts to become more coherent when she explicitly points out that some mysterious all
knowing master [gave] each one a cloak of ugliness, and they accepted it without question
(Morrison, 39). This omniscient overlord that Morrison speaks of is the power structure established
by the beauty standards which we continually agree to uphold because of the silent contract in our
heads that is remnant from our ancestor s transgressions against the Black community. Education is
the only means of taking this contract and ripping it in two; supplementing with The Bluest Eye

Relocating from the suburbs will afford you greater access to a wide range of cultural and
entertainment opportunities. While the metropolitan area boasts more than two million residents,
the city itself is home to more than 380,000 residents.
Expect a Transition Period
While moving to the city can be exciting, the change is likely going to cause disruption in your
daily routine and general comfort levels. Although you might want to run back to the burbs to get
away from the new sensory stimuli, don t hit the road just yet. Becoming accustomed to a new

Importance of Good Precedents for Sustaining Democracies...
There are many different reasons why the partition of India occurred. When Britain oppressed
India, they had a divide and conquer policy that exacerbated the religious and cultural rifts that
already existed in the society. The Muslim League, which believed in the ideology of Pakistan ,
actively campaigned to gain more support for the Muslims in India, especially under the guidance
of dynamic leaders like Jinnah. Pakistani leader and founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah believed that
this partition was inevitable since [a] united India would never have worked (Komireddi 2009). He
and others thought that a unified state would only lead to the relegation of Muslims to the fringe of
society and, ultimately, to violence and civil war. The Indian... Show more content on

The east and west sides of Pakistan were not divided over religion (they were mostly all Muslim),
rather the division was on the basis of culture and language. West Pakistan was Punjabi while
East Pakistan was Bengali. In 1971, there was a major war between India and Pakistan and the
east side of Pakistan split off into what is today called Bangladesh. For the purposes of this essay,
we will be focusing on just Pakistan and India.
The people in both countries have very common and even interlocked backgrounds, so how is it
that these countries have very divergent political atmospheres since partition? India, adapting
from the legacy of British rule and the Government of India Act 1935 for its constitution, kept the
idea of federalism and was also successful in operating its political system within the formal
democracy. Except for 18 months between 1975 and 1977 India maintained its democratic
institutions. In the five decades since partition, there have been twelve legislative elections and
many more state assembly elections. There have been seven peaceful transfers of power between
rival political parties at the central (federal) level (Varshney 1998). Since 1967, the party that ruled
in New Delhi has not ruled in nearly half of the states (Varshney 1998). A fleeting sample of the

Me Talk Pretty One Day Summary
Bonne AnnГ©e by Jean Pierre BenoГ®t and Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris are
memoirs which are very similar and different. Theme, tone, and character development all help to
compare and contrast these memoirs. Both texts have a large amount of these literary devices.
Bonne AnnГ©e is about a Haitian child who grows up and learns to love Haiti. He is the narrator of
the story. At first, he doesn t want to go back to Haiti after dictator François Duvalier(Papa Doc)
leaves his country or the world. He is told that this will happen soon. As the narrator grows up,
he watches a world cup soccer match: Italy vs. Haiti. This is still in New York, his home from
before. Italy, a country that hasn t been scored on for two years, gets scored on by the Haitians in
the match. Even though Haiti loses, the narrator feels proud for his natal country. In Me Talk
Pretty One Day , the narrator tries to learn French in Paris. He is given a very strict teacher who
hates everyone in the class, especially him. At the end, though, all is revealed. The narrator can
perfectly understand the teacher. The theme of both these texts is similar and different. In Bonne
AnnГ©e , one quote is this: Perhaps the natal pull is stronger than it seems. (BenoГ®t 36). One
theme of this story is that homeland is very important. In Me Talk Pretty One Day , though, there is
a different theme. The teacher proceeded to belittle everyone from German Eva, who hated
laziness, to Japanese Yukari, who loved

Analyzing The Poem This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison
Many poets commonly use imagery as a primary literary device in their poems to convey important
themes with objects, symbols, and motifs throughout the piece; the author of This Lime tree Bower
my Prison is no exception. Throughout the poem, figurative language is present in the form of
descriptions and relationships to nature. The imagery of nature describing the progression in the
speaker s attitude reflects the transitioning between stages of thinking changing of reliance and
thoughts on nature as a higher being to a reliance on the self and individual thought. The things
found in nature, from flowers to sunsets, are used to describe the movement of the poem and the

Climate Change Is Caused By Human Activities
According to the new Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC) 2013, in Southeast Asia, temperature has been increasing at a rate of 0.14 to 0.20 degree
Celsius per decade since the 1960s while rainfall from extreme rain days has increased by 10
millimeters per decade. Both of these increments are caused by climate change. In addition to
increase of temperature and extreme precipitations, climate change also increases landslides,
exacerbates soil erosion, causes flooding, and raises the sea level (Barnett et al. 2007). Previously,
climate change was believed to happen naturally. However, over the years, scientists have started to
argue that anthropogenic factors are the main contributor. Scientists have also been more confident
and forthright in informing the public that climate change is caused by human activities. The IPCC
Fifth Assessment Report mentions that human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent
anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history (2013). In addition, most
of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid 20th century is very likely
due to the observed increase in anthropogenic Green House Gas (GHG) concentrations (IPCC AR4
2007). In fact, there are many other anthropogenic impacts that cause climate change. In this paper,
I will discuss the impacts of climate change on wetlands, forestfires and tropical cyclones in
Southeast Asia, and the adaptations

Girl And Poem Barbie Doll By Susan Glaspell s Trifles
Women from generation to generation have been entrapped by society s narrow definitions of
feminine behavior, beauty, and rights. They bore to serve and take care of their husband, children,
and family. Women, based on historical information, did not have right to vote, until the nearly the
end of 1920. The first state that adapt to the women voting right was Colorado. The short storyGirl
written by Jamaica Kincaid, a Poem Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy, and a drama play Trifles by
Susan Glaspell, share similarities about how women should behave, and act from their girlhood till
they grown up and become a perfect womanthat society expected them to be.
Girl written by Jamaica Kincaid and was published in 1978. It was her first of ten stories in At
the Bottom of the River. The story is about a young girl who instructs by her mother in the duties
of how a woman is expected to become in life inspired by limited opportunities for girls at her
teenager ages. Her instructions underscore that the women must master all kinds of domestic
chores. She has to learn How to sweep the whole house...how to set the table for breakfast...how
to set the table for dinner... (Girl, p.121) Most importantly, that she needs to learn is how you
smile to someone that you don t like at all; this is how you smile to someone you like
completely. (Girl, p. 121) Moreover, she will have to learn everything that will able to help her
to become a woman that could be responsible in life and take good care of her own family in the
future. In all, the mother is just trying her best to instructing her daughter how to be a good and a

Essay On Retrograde Amnesia
What is Retrograde Amnesia? Retrograde Amnesia is, being a common type of Amnesia, is the
one most people are familiar with. Retrograde Amnesia is the loss of past memories. If someone
falls and hits their head, the damage caused by that accident could cause the person to forget that
the accident even occurred. For example, a friend once decided to try snowboarding, and did
not learn how to stop before she went to the top of the hill. She went down, picking up speed,
and did not notice the small cliff at the bottom until it was too late to turn away. She decided to
fall so she would not go over the cliff, and while she was successful at that, she unfortunately hit
her head on a patch of ice as she fell. She remained conscience, but lost not only the memory of the
accident, she lost her memory of the entire week of the trip. Since this type of Amnesiausually
happens when trauma occurs to the brain, it seems likely that the accident causes failure in the
brains ability to retrieve information. Information is stored in many different parts of the brain, so
retrieval must also be in more than one part to occur. When a blow occurs to the head, the brain
essentially is bounced, from one end to the other. Since the brain is floating in fluid, typically
damage occurs in more area s than where the hit actually happened. Because damage occurs to
several parts of the brain, the risk

because he proved his laws. To begin with, there are two main observations Mendel made during
his experiments. The first thing he learned was that traits are inherited as discrete units, meaning
the differences are clear to the naked eye. He also discovered what is now called the Law of
Segregation or Mendel s first law,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eyes have distinct features like eye shape and color. Brown eye color is dominant to blue eye
color which is recessive and green, but blue is recessive to green which is dominant. Based off
the genotype of a man and a woman that can have several different outcomes. Brown will always
be dominant if every case but if a person has the genotype Bb and another has bb the ratio of your
offspring is two to two. This example shows the relevance of Mendel s study because it shows in
depth how a person can end up with blue eyes even when both parents are brown eyes their
genotypes can be heterozygous for brown and blue.(Understanding Genetics. (n.d.). Retrieved
October 24, 2016, from http://genetics.thetech.org/ask/ask59) In conclusion, Gregor Mendel s
study is significant. He had shown us a way to find out why we are the way we are. Mendel s
experiments are relevant to us today because he has shown us how he created his laws that are

Le Marias Character Analysis
In Act 1 of Le Marias, the two main characters prove to have vastly different personalities. These
characters differences are apparent from the onset of the film. The director shows Elie, a worker at
this factory, going about his chores and not speaking to anyone. In opposition to Elie the two other
workers go about their work in a very sociable manner while translating for the artist and the owner
of the factory. The gregarious and affable attitude that the assistant has exaggerates the quietness of
Elie. Due to the assistants seemingly outgoing manner, he is driven by a personal inclination to
approach Elie and talk to him. In Act 2, the assistant and Elie have a seemingly one sided
conversation. Throughout their discussion, the assistant

The Characteristics Of Max Weber s Bureaucracy
Merriam Webster Dictionary (online) defines Bureaucracy as a government characterized by
specialization of functions, adherence to fixed rules, and a hierarchy of authority and a system of
administration marked by officialism, red tape, and proliferation . It also implies administration by
bureau, which is an administrative unit in an organizational setup and mechanism to realize
rationally ordered social action. It comprises non elected officials, be it a public or private sector
organization, is often viewed as an apparatus or entity that rationalizes power, authority and
decision making in a society. Max Weber, a German sociologist and economist, conceived the
Bureaucratic Management Theory and believed it to be more rational and efficient. According to
Weber (1946), there exists a trichotomy of power: traditional, charismatic and rational legal or
bureaucratic. Weber believes the bureaucratic type of power to be the ideal one. Max Weber s
illustrious and influential work on bureaucracywas a substantial contribution to the discipline of
public administration. He presumes bureaucracy to be an efficient and rational organizational
structure. Brian R. Fry (1989) considers Weber s bureaucracy to be rational one the basis of it
being well conversant with rules and procedures, and possessing the specialized knowledge of the
bureaucratic domain. According to M. Crozier, (1964), key characteristics of the ideal type of
bureaucracy that Weber ideates include fixed official

Misrepresentation Of Chinese Culture
Nowadays, some chinese culture are misrepresented by people in other countries. In the essay,I will
talk about three kinds of misrepresentation of Chinese culture.
Due to the movie montage and some exaggerated shooting techniques, some foreigners have a deep
misunderstanding of Chinese Kung Fu (like Kung Fu dodge and the internal strength).
However, the essence of Chinese martial arts is to move as much in order to keep fit and keep
calm. People who practice the martial arts, naturally have more strength and good at fighting. But
all these achievements were based on the perennial hard work. It s ridiculous to consider using a
few days to learn Chinese Kung Fu.
When I talked with my American friends, the most common answers I get are Bruce Lee, Jackie
Chan, and Kungfu. Honestly, kung fu is such a mysterious thing to me.
The representation of Kung Fu in China has a large difference from those in the US movies. We
call it the type of martial arts Wu Shu (Wu refers to martial arts;Shu means a hero).
Because I grew up with a lot of martial arts novels, I was glad meet a martial arts artist called
Christopher Pei who was the first Kung Fu artist I have ever seen.
The first thing master Pei told me was Kung Fu s misunderstanding of martial arts ( martial arts
or discipline ,an exhibition of traditional Chinese martial arts and all in one sports.) To be aware
of this fact, I felt a bit disappointed. I believe that Kung Fu is a generation after generation of
secrets, only in a

Determinism Vs Compatibilism Essay To compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism, we must know what each is first before we can break them down to their cores and begin to an analyze each to see what is the basically the same and what is different. John Chaffee author of The Philosopher s Way, A Text with Readings states that determinism is The view that every event, including human actions, is brought about by previous events in accordance with universal causal laws that govern the world. Human freedom is an illusion (Chaffee, 173). Chaffee s definition of compatibilism is The view that all events, including human actions, are caused. Compatibilists are panned by determinists for failing to comprehend the extent to which human freedom is limited, and by libertarians for failing to grasp the true extent of human freedom. Compatibilism suggests a considerate description of moral freedom. However, a line has to be drawn between that which is determined and that which is open to choice. Compatibilists have to decide on exactly what is and what is not a seminal factor. The intricacies of the sciences make such a line tough to induce. Compatibilism decides that moral responsibility is significant in our social order but that it is not reasonable to hold a person responsible for actions caused by his emotions, beliefs, desires and decisions if he has no choice about having them It is, however, hard for the compatibilists to decide what exactly is resolute and what can be freely selected. The intricate environment of people and the roles of physics, genetics and psychology make deciding what exactly is, or is not, a determining cause extremely difficult. The NFL, local governments and various associations of hotels and restaurants normally predict the economic impact that the hosting will have on the city (Depken Wilson, 2003). This mainly takes into account the expenditure that the city is likely to incur while determining the real benefits that it will get. For instance the police and fire departments are paid for the overtime hours that they work to ensure safety and security is maintained. • 5. What Is The Personification In The Dream Of The Rood Dream of the Rood 1.The speakers described in the story are referred to as the dreamer and a cross. The cross is given huge personification inside the story as it is an inanimate object. Both speakers view Christ as a selfless hero. They use the names such as heavens Lord, the wielder of victories, the prince of glory, and heavens Guardian to describe him. The poet describes Christ as someone who has won a great battle against the sins of mankind. By winning this battle he is able to rebirth into a society that is more holy than it ever was before. This to the poet is something so mighty that it alone has the power to buy true happiness and peace for all of mankind. 2.Word structure and style of the poem leaves a flowy, serene feel throughout the story. The use of personification in terms of the cross and the mass amounts of imagery brings out an outworldly presence. The inner thoughts of the dreamer can be easily confused with reality and leaves the reader wondering what is actually happening and what isn t. He wonders endlessly from place to place to find what he used to have in his life. The wanderer is looking to rebuild his life because he has lost his structure. I believe this is relevant to the universal situation that many people face going through life. There are many times when we lose things or people that mean the world to us and we have to start over. • 6. Effective Science Teaching Science is, by its nature, inquiry based and science knowledge is built through processes in which discoveries of the natural world are made (Abruscato, 2000). It utilizes discovery and scientific thinking process to explore and learn knowledge and skills. Learning by doing is the new efficient method in teaching science. For kindergarten, this method leads to better understanding of science concepts and builds skills that children will use in future life .What a child can do with assistance now, they can later do on their own (Vygotsky, 1978). John Dewey (1916) stated that children must be engaged in an active quest for learningand new ideas. Inquiry is important in educating kindergarteners because it not only keeps them interested in lessons but also helps them retain more information when performing exploration and investigation. Children are naturally motivated to learn and actively seek out information to help their understanding (Piaget, 1950).The success of students who participate in hands on inquiry activities suggests that if students have first hands experience with science, concepts are easier to understand and apply and students are generally more favorable to science and have better understanding of the nature of science .Within a conceptual framework, inquiry learning and active learner involvement can lead to important outcomes in the classroom. If you live in Milwaukee, WI the rules for being eligible for supplemental social security income are the same as if you lived anywhere else in the nation. In the majority of cases, the rule is that you cannot receive Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) at the same time. Only very rare cases get approval for concurrent benefits. To receive both the SSDI and SSI benefits at the same time, you must first be approved for Social security disability insurance and your monthly payments must be on the low side. There are several reasons why some people may have low SSDI monthly payments. These include: 1.You may not have been gainfully employed or have worked very little or not at all in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For applicants who are blind, the monthly SGA amount for 2018 is $1970. For applicants who have a medical impairment other than blindness, the monthly SGA amount for 2018 is $1180. When you apply for Social security insurance, all your countable income sources will be evaluated to determine if you meet the requirements. The countable income in general consists of all the earned income as well as all the unearned income. When you get SSDI benefits, this money is considered to be unearned income. However, you should be fully aware that any money you earn should not exceed the minimum as specified by the social security insurance program. If you are earning SSDI more than your SSI, then you will not get the latter. In the State of Wisconsin, the limit set by SSI on unearned income is $710 per month. Gender Essentialism In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro In Alice Munro s short story, Boys and Girls, the narrator, a young girl growing up on a fox farm who is coming of age and is thus forced to conform to societies expectations of women. Andrew Bennett and Nicholas Boyle argue that, Literary texts call into question many of our essentialist ideas about gender(183) and Munro s story is an example of how literature can help us question the validity of gender essentialist thought. In this essay, I will argue that Munro s short story does challenge common essentialist views on gender by exploring the way that society constructs and imposes gender roles on her characters, particularly the young narrator; and by analyzing the symbolic relationship between the narrator and the mare named Flora.... Munro writes, These stories were about myself, when I had grown a little older, they took place in a world that was recognizably mine, yet one that presented opportunities for courage, boldness, and self sacrifice, as mine never did. But as her personality is molded by her family who criticize her masculine traits and encourage feminine ones instead, the change is reflected in her dreams. They change, and instead her dreams focus on her no longer being the hero but rather being the beautiful damsel in distress. This is shown in this quote, A story might start off int he old way, with a spectacular danger, a fire or wold animals, and for a while i might rescue people; the things would change around, and instead, somebody would be rescuing me, and, At this point the story concerned itself at great length with what I looked like how long my hair was, and what kind of dress i had ... According to (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2012), there are three main criminal behavior theories; Labeling theory, Conflict theory and the Radical theory. Each theory outlines different perspectives on why an individual engages in criminal activity along with the public s reaction. The first theory is the Labeling theory which was first contemplated by Charles Horton Cooley, William I. Thomas, and George Herbert Mead around 1918. In poor areas, on the other hand, these same activities might be seen as tendencies towards juvenile delinquency, which suggests that differences of class and race play an important role in the process of assigning labels of criminal activity (Adler et al., 2012). Next we look at the Conflict theory. Conflict theory states that tensions and conflicts arise when resources, status, and power are unevenly distributed between groups in society and that these conflicts become the reason for social change. The piano was first designed without a strong system of plucking the strings. This initially made the first couple attempts a failure, but some German inventors got together and developed a better system of making intricate sounds (with deep and light feeling) with hammers (The Piano, 6). These depths allowed for the expression of romanticism and emotion. The piano was invented, because the harpsichord was unable of creating depths (Bellis, About). To create a reserve in accordance with the Indian Act, the Supreme Court of Canada set out the requirements in the Ross River Deana Council decision. These requirements, as applied by Wewaykum Indian Band v. The modified early warning score (MEWS) is a patient acuity scoring system that was developed to assist clinical nurses with identifying clinical deterioration in a patient and when to initiate a rapid response team call (Stewart et al., 2014). According to Rose et al., (2015) research suggests that before a catastrophic event, signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration can be detected as early as 6 8hrs prior to the event. In an effort to identify the subtle changes in a patient s condition, MEWS scoring is being adopted by most hospitals. To help with the early recognition of clinical decline, members of the multidisciplinary teams in acute care and emergency rooms track and score the physiologic parameters such as blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, temperature and neurological status (Urban et al., 2015). The MEWS assigns a number between 0 and 3 to the five physiological categories obtained from the patient based on MEWS score card. Each item on the score card has a weighted value and a score of 0 as the ideal score. If one of the values falls into an abnormal range, it is given a score depending on the deviation from the patient s norm (Urban et al., 2015). Individual scores from all parameters are added up to give the total MEWS score. The higher the MEWS score the more unstable a patient is. Evidently the circulating effects of globalization and economic policy have rendered islands of Hong Kong into major tourist attractions. Also, it was coincidental finding unappetizing comments left by Tourists on travel websites. They all dismissed the city s reputation of possessing perfumed sights and sounds with the scents of opium spices and incense to be historical or mythological. Instead, these tourists who clearly were disappointed enough to share their experiences online, reported smelling overbearing stenches of dead fish and rotten cabbage, similarly to what I encountered in Chinatown, New York. West Pakistan was Punjabi while East Pakistan was Bengali. In 1971, there was a major war between India and Pakistan and the east side of Pakistan split off into what is today called Bangladesh. For the purposes of this essay, we will be focusing on just Pakistan and India. The people in both countries have very common and even interlocked backgrounds, so how is it that these countries have very divergent political atmospheres since partition? India, adapting from the legacy of British rule and the Government of India Act 1935 for its constitution, kept the idea of federalism and was also successful in operating its political system within the formal democracy. Except for 18 months between 1975 and 1977 India maintained its democratic institutions. In the five decades since partition, there have been twelve legislative elections and many more state assembly elections. There have been seven peaceful transfers of power between rival political parties at the central (federal) level (Varshney 1998). Since 1967, the party that ruled in New Delhi has not ruled in nearly half of the states (Varshney 1998). • 31. Me Talk Pretty One Day Summary Bonne AnnГ©e by Jean Pierre BenoГ®t and Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris are memoirs which are very similar and different. Theme, tone, and character development all help to compare and contrast these memoirs. Both texts have a large amount of these literary devices. Bonne AnnГ©e is about a Haitian child who grows up and learns to love Haiti. He is the narrator of the story. At first, he doesn t want to go back to Haiti after dictator FranГ§ois Duvalier(Papa Doc) leaves his country or the world. He is told that this will happen soon. As the narrator grows up, he watches a world cup soccer match: Italy vs. Haiti. This is still in New York, his home from before. Italy, a country that hasn t been scored on for two years, gets scored on by the Haitians in the match. Even though Haiti loses, the narrator feels proud for his natal country. In Me Talk Pretty One Day , the narrator tries to learn French in Paris. He is given a very strict teacher who hates everyone in the class, especially him. At the end, though, all is revealed. The narrator can perfectly understand the teacher. The theme of both these texts is similar and different. In Bonne AnnГ©e , one quote is this: Perhaps the natal pull is stronger than it seems. (BenoГ®t 36). One theme of this story is that homeland is very important. In Me Talk Pretty One Day , though, there is a different theme. • 36. Climate Change Is Caused By Human Activities According to the new Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2013, in Southeast Asia, temperature has been increasing at a rate of 0.14 to 0.20 degree Celsius per decade since the 1960s while rainfall from extreme rain days has increased by 10 millimeters per decade. Both of these increments are caused by climate change. In addition to increase of temperature and extreme precipitations, climate change also increases landslides, exacerbates soil erosion, causes flooding, and raises the sea level (Barnett et al. 2007). Previously, climate change was believed to happen naturally. However, over the years, scientists have started to argue that anthropogenic factors are the main contributor. Scientists have also been more confident and forthright in informing the public that climate change is caused by human activities. The IPCC Fifth Assessment Report mentions that human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history (2013). In addition, most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid 20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic Green House Gas (GHG) concentrations (IPCC AR4 2007). In fact, there are many other anthropogenic impacts that cause climate change. In this paper, I will discuss the impacts of climate change on wetlands, forestfires and tropical cyclones in Southeast Asia, and the adaptations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Essay On Retrograde Amnesia What is Retrograde Amnesia? Retrograde Amnesia is, being a common type of Amnesia, is the one most people are familiar with. Retrograde Amnesia is the loss of past memories. If someone falls and hits their head, the damage caused by that accident could cause the person to forget that the accident even occurred. For example, a friend once decided to try snowboarding, and did not learn how to stop before she went to the top of the hill. She went down, picking up speed, and did not notice the small cliff at the bottom until it was too late to turn away. She decided to fall so she would not go over the cliff, and while she was successful at that, she unfortunately hit her head on a patch of ice as she fell. She remained conscience, but lost not only the memory of the accident, she lost her memory of the entire week of the trip. Since this type of Amnesiausually happens when trauma occurs to the brain, it seems likely that the accident causes failure in the brains ability to retrieve information. Information is stored in many different parts of the brain, so retrieval must also be in more than one part to occur. When a blow occurs to the head, the brain essentially is bounced, from one end to the other. Since the brain is floating in fluid, typically damage occurs in more area s than where the hit actually happened. Because damage occurs to several parts of the brain, the risk ... Mendel s experiments are relevant because he proved his laws. To begin with, there are two main observations Mendel made during his experiments. The Characteristics Of Max Weber s Bureaucracy Merriam Webster Dictionary (online) defines Bureaucracy as a government characterized by specialization of functions, adherence to fixed rules, and a hierarchy of authority and a system of administration marked by officialism, red tape, and proliferation . It also implies administration by bureau, which is an administrative unit in an organizational setup and mechanism to realize rationally ordered social action. It comprises non elected officials, be it a public or private sector organization, is often viewed as an apparatus or entity that rationalizes power, authority and decision making in a society. Max Weber, a German sociologist and economist, conceived the Bureaucratic Management Theory and believed it to be more rational and efficient.
