 Five Principles of Teaching Adults
o Principle 1: Make sure adults understand “Why”
o Principle 2: Respect that your students have different learning styles
 There are three general learning styles
 Visual
 Auditory
 Kinesthetic
o Principle 3: Allow your students to experience what they
are learning
o Principle 4: When the student is ready, the teacher
will appear
o Principle 5: Encourage your adult students
 Teaching Methods
o Scaffolding
o Praxis
o Constructivism
o Spaced lecture
o Group work
o Communication
o Dialogue

Five Principles of Teaching Adults  When do adults learn best? o When:  They understand why something is important to know or do  They have the freedom to learn their own way  Learning is experiential  The time is right for them to learn  The process is positive and encouraging  Five Principles of Teaching Adults o Principle 1: Make sure adults understand “Why” o Principle 2: Respect that your students have different learning styles  There are three general learning styles  Visual  Auditory  Kinesthetic
