THE GALLERY WALK
A gallery walk is a teaching strategy that allows
students to interact and be engaged as they walk
throughout the classroom. They work in small
groups, 3-5 students depending on the size of
the class, to share ideas, responses, and feedback
to questions, projects, problems, images, or text.
WHAT IS A GALLERY WALK
• Choose the topic
• Create your questions – you
could also have the students
create posters/slideshows
about the topic
• Group the students in 3-5
• Questions, posters, or
slideshows are then hung
throughout the classroom
FIRST…PREPARE
 Have groups start at different
stations.
 Have the students examine the
questions, posters, or slideshows.
 Depending on goal of the activity,
have students provide feedback at
each station.
 After 5-10 minutes, have students
move to the next station.
 When all groups have been to all
stations, do a group discussion
about the topic and each display.
SECOND…BEGIN
A Gallery Walk helps promote class discussion, critical
thinking, team building, and cooperative learning.
